called decibels. For human beings, sounds above 85 decibels is considered harmful depending how

Aircraft noise affects millions of people all around the world. Community living closer to the airport
is affected the most. Airport noise can be too dangerous to human as well as to wildlife. Airplanes
generates 150 decibels during takeoff which is 10 decibels louder than a gunshot. There are several
case studies where children whose schools are near the airport scored lower on their tests (O'Neil,
2002, F6) and their score significantly improved when they were moved to quieter location. There

and rail transport; air–conditioners, factories; amplified music and construction work released into

One of the most obvious negative consequences of prolonged exposure to noise is hearing loss.
Studies show that people who have been regularly exposed to intense noise, due to the nature of
their work, have decreased hearing sensibility, compared to those who have worked in more quiet

Elevated sound levels cause changes in the structure of the inner ear which results in irreversible

There are four dimensions of film sound that can be found in this clip from the 1960's film Psycho,
these are rhythm, fidelity, space, and time. When directing this scene Alfred Hitchcock had to make
a lot of decisions regarding sound in it. Each of these choices has different implications and will
affect the audience differently.
Let's start with fidelity, I believe Hitchcock purposely implemented a lot of fidelity in this scene. I
think he used common and familiar environmental sounds in the background while Marion was
completing mundane tasks before entering the shower. This is apparent when Marion ripped a piece
of paper out of a notebook, tore it up, and then flush it down the toilet. Hitchcock chose to allow the
audience to hear these sounds for a few reasons. First, it provides the viewer with a more complete
experience. Second, it keeps the viewer's attention more present because the scene is more realistic
and natural. Lastly, Hitchcock used these sounds as the camera followed Marion to the shower, this
allows time and action to continue smoothly over a series of shots making the temporal duration
rhythmic.
Next is space and how sound affects the viewer's perspective of it. While in the shower the loudest
noise is the water falling, after a few seconds the viewer gets used to the tranquil sound of the water

Although using different teaching strategies is necessary in a differentiated music class, simply
using them is not necessarily differentiating instruction. I like to think of strategies as the delivery of
communication and differentiated instruction as the specific individual implementation of strategies.
For example in a music class, one of my strategies of keeping students engaged is to use simple
percussion instruments for developing rhythmic proficiency. The differentiated instruction is
provided by taking individual needs into consideration. For example, a student who is easily aurally
overloaded, I would hand that student a quieter instrument and/or suggest he/she use body
percussion or ask them to sit where they feel comfortable in class relative to the sound being
produced. For younger children who are sound sensitive, I would suggest using earplugs or head
sets. It is important to remember that using a variety of teaching strategies is not the same as
differentiating the instruction. In this case engagement was the overarching strategy and the
differentiated instruction was specific to each student while still keeping them engaged.

patient. They begin with tympanometry, and then follow up with pure tones, speech and bone
testing. If need be, they continue with any special testing that may be deemed necessary following

Lynne Ramsay's We Need To Talk About Kevin (2011), dialogue serves as just one of many modes

How it started
Our original idea was to implement the beginning stages of a paper on measuring the driver fatigue
detection from a sequence of images []. Majority of accidents reported are due to driver fatigue. One
of the important parameter to be detected to measure the driver's alertness is to track his/her eyes in
the given image sequence. Eye detection is an active research area in computer vision. Applications
can range from face detection to biometrics. Canthus (Eye corners) is a very stable feature that can
be constantly detected from a facial image irrespective of the eye status or gaze direction. Canthus is
initially defined and treated as a corner (interest point). Interest point detectors like Harris and
SUSAN are being studied and discussed in this report. These corner detectors are evaluated to find
which one suits best for this application. Interest Points
An interest point is a relatively important kind of localized two–dimensional image structure with a
mathematical description. It can be defined as the intersection of two edges or as a point with two
dominant and different edge directions. "Corners", "T", "Y" and "X" junctions have the same

the image, the information on shape is concentrated at these points.

I produced a mix of Summertime as performed by the band Tamba as part of the second module.
There were a number of issues during the recording, such as self noise from the right overhead
microphone, a substantial amount of bleed being picked up from each microphone, the balance of
the ensemble, in particular the relative lack of signal of the piano, and the harshness of the singers
last note. In order to keep my project in a logical order, I placed the vocals at the top of my
arrangement, and the drums at the bottom. I ensured that I colour coded each track according to the

Hunt Descriptive Writing
Waking up before the rising sun on the morning of the hunt left me feeling groggy with my eyes
slow to open and close when blinking. Being extra quiet to not wake up my mother was a main
challenge, trying to tippy toe around the cabin and dodging the creaky spots in the floor. Prior to
eating breakfast, I began getting dressed. Due to the fact that I was in northern Minnesota, the
weather was bone chilling and the wind would seep right through your layers onto your unexpecting
skin. Once I had put on my long johns, sweatpants, and long sleeve shirt with a tee shirt on top I
began to make my breakfast. I had decided to have scrambled eggs that were cooked to perfection
with the yolk golden mixed in with the pure snow white egg white and flakes of pepper sprinkled
throughout and toast with butter melted onto the crunchy outside making it soft with homemade
strawberry jam spread thick on top. After I had finished my meal I continued getting ready. In doing
so I put on the remainder of my clothes, my sweatshirt and hunting pants came next followed by my
