The Logic Behind Discount Retailing
Sam Walton came from humble beginnings in Arkansas, the high school star quarter back which
after graduating from College, got his first retail job at J.C. Penney's. After serving in the Army from
1942–45, Sam borrowed $25,000 from his father in law and purchased his first local Ben Franklin
Variety Store (6), many more soon followed. Sam did rather well with the variety stores. He figured
out a concept of buying in bulk and passing that savings on to his customers. Eventually Sam
determined that he would not be able to pursue his vision (of discount stores in rural areas) while
under the constrictions of the franchise. In the early 1960s, discount retailing was sweeping across
America. The logic behind discount retailing is simple (Walton and Huey, 1992): "by cutting your
price, you can boost your sales to a point where you earn far more at the cheaper retail price than
you would have by selling the item at the higher price. In retailer language, you can lower your
markup but earn more because of the increased volume" (4). In 1962 Sam decided to venture out
with his own plan and build the first Walmart discount store. Although Walton was not the first on
the discounting bandwagon, he adopted the idea early and applied it to the otherwise untapped small
town market (2).

Dollar Tree Case Study
Dollar Tree was originally a part of K&K toys, but grew to the point that the original company was
divested in order to focus all efforts on growing the dollar store business, and that has proven to be
an extremely intelligent maneuver (Parnell, 2014). Thru a series of acquisitions and internal growth,
Dollar Tree has become a Fortune 500 company and their July purchase of Family Dollar resulted in
a major retailer with 13,600 stores in forty eight states and five Canadian provinces (Dollar Tree,
2015a, Dollar Tree, 2015b). By opening more than two hundred and sixty stores since July of this
year, Dollar Tree shows their intention to continue to grow their market share with a targeted
approach focusing on low and lower middle income customers. ... Show more content on

While attempting to target lower incomes, Dollar Tree has attracted number of middle and upper
middle income consumers with their small sized discount variety store approach which sells
everything for a dollar or less (Piller & Strong, 2015). Since the stores are smaller, and everything
must be fairly inexpensive to meet their one dollar price point, Dollar Tree limits their retail
categories to consumables, inexpensive toys, housewares, and greeting cards. Dollar type stores,
also known as deep–discount retailers, have nearly doubled the performance of the S&P 500, but
Dollar Tree has significantly outperformed the completion with an eight hundred percent increase in
the past ten years. Their operating margins and return on equity are the best in the dollar store
industry, and their 2014 sales average of 1.73 million per store is nearly ten percent higher than their

Research Paper On Diglossia
Diglossia The following research paper will give an introduction to an important part of
sociolinguistic that called "Diglossia". The first part will be a theoretical part explaining expressions
and terms related to the topic. The aim of my research is to explore which language is used by bunch
of people in many different situations. Diglossia definition: In many communities where people use
two varieties or more of the same language in various situations, comes a phenomenon that called
diglossia. The aim of this research paper is to talk about diglossia in Arab countries. First to start
with the term diglossia; it was presented into the English language at first by Charles Ferguson; he
first used this term in one of his articles he wrote in 1959. According to Ferguson diglossia is "one
particular kind of standardization where two varieties of a language exist side by side throughout the
community and each one is used for different purposes, one is more standard variety that called the
high variety or (H) which is used for example in educational institutions like lectures at universities.
The other one is called the low variety or (L) which is used in manly social interactions. The

For example when two speakers engage in trade and neither know the other's language, the language
used between them we call it pidgin, so it is a mix of completely different languages. Creol on the
other hand arises when a pidgin becomes a native language of a new generation. These theories
believed to cause the language drift like for example if one Arab man married to non Arab woman it
would likely have led to communication using biginized form of Arabic and the children who would

Is Language In Interaction
One of the first things that comes into your mind when you hear the word "language" is
communication, isn't it? However language is much more than just communication. Language is
what makes you different from other human beings. Thanks to it, you can communicate with others,
express who you are, your ideas, feelings, thoughts, discomforts, etc. With language you can even
change the world, you can hurt a person or you can love a person. Language has many more aspects
than what you might think, some of them are: language choice, code switching, language in
interaction and finally language and gender.
The first aspect that language has is language choice in which, you can choose what kind of
language you want to use for a conversation. For example, when you talk to your friends you use a
certain type of language and when you talk to your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According with Mesthrie R. "language in interaction is how speakers use language in interaction
with others, how they hold conversations, tell stories, make jokes, argue or tease one another" (2009,
p.183). In easier words, language in interaction is linguistic exchange. There are some
characteristics in Language in interaction:
Construction of identity: it refers to your interaction with others, you construct an identity which
includes your ethnic identity, national identity, cultural identity, gender, age, status etc. And this
construction of identity occurs through face to face interaction. However, not necessarily in every
interaction you construct all of these aspects. An illustration of these would be: when you talk to
others you get a self–concept by the way that you act, move, express or talk.
Face to face interaction: refers to when you are talking to others physically present in real time. For
example when you are talking in a video call with your friends of another country or also it can be
when you are talking with your boyfriend in a

Explore the Varieties of and Attitudes to Texting
Explore the varieties of and attitudes to texting
With technology rife in today's society are the boundaries between spoken and written language
becoming ever nearer? It seems that young children, teenagers, adults and even the elderly are all
turning to mobile devices as an aid of communication. The frequent use of texting has brought about
new features, such as clipping, that are unique to the texting world, this is thought to be putting a
strain on our abilities to use correct Standard English. In this essay I will explore the variety of
language and text specific features used within text messaging. I will also analyse the various
attitudes towards texting and finally give my own opinion.

In Oliver's first reply he writes 'what r we havin', now this seems to be a question yet he uses no
punctuation to imply that it is. Even so Abbie replies with an answer; this indicates that because they
are siblings they can relate. In data set two (a text conversation between Abbie and her friend Ella,
both aged 15) a lot of features are used. Firstly both Abbie and Ella use emoticons, this is too show
each person how the other is feeling. They also use x's and o's to reveal emotion and as these letters
together mean 'hugs and kisses'; it shows that they are happy and not angry or upset. Something that
symbolises Ella and Abbie's age and that they are friends is the word 'goon', this word is generally
used by teenagers in a joking manor and it means idiot. Finally the time between each text being
received is fairly short, this could be because teenagers use their phones a lot; therefore they always
have them on hand. It may also be because they are anticipating a reply, which means they are
getting ready to respond, and if Abbie and Ella were talking face to face they would do the same;
this is called 'turn –taking.' Lastly in data set three (a text conversation between Abbie and her
Grandma) correct spelling and capitals have been used and the punctuation is perfect. This is
because Abbie's Grandma is new to texting and has therefore not been introduced to 'text talk' and
uses correct English grammar and so on. For Abbie's text messages to be

The Role Of Perceptual Dialectology
In order to take full advantage of research in the field of perceptual dialectology, it is essential to not
view it as an isolated discipline but to discuss it in the framework of linguistics and other fields it
touches upon. According to Preston, perceptual dialectolo–gy is a sub–category of folk linguistics,
which itself belongs to sociolinguistics. He in–cludes the study of both, conscious and subconscious
responses to language variation in the term (Preston 2011: 15), and emphasizes the importance of
cognitive processes into consideration, making it synonymous with the term attitude studies ("or the
social psy–chology of language") (Preston 2013: 93). It contrasts traditional dialectology, in that it is
not primarily based on linguistic data but rather on perceived impressions (Hiraga 2005: 291).
Preston further uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This relates to the aforementioned dialect image that respondents have in mind. Whether they do it
consciously or subconsciously, participants perceive speech that is non–standard to be less
prestigious and incorrect. The judgments they make about dialect speakers is based on social
stereotypes (Lam and O'Brien 2014: 152). Perceptual dialectology helps to identify these stereotypes
and analyze the rela–tionships between different speech communities. Participants mirror their
attitudes to–wards other communities in their attitudes towards their respective language variety.
The study of peoples' responses to different dialects does not only concern different language
features but also the community itself (Evans 2013: 64). Iannàccaro and Dell'Aquila agree that
studies show perceptions on the inside of a community, as they are always based on opinions from
members of the community living there (2001: 265). Therefore, perceptual dialectology delivers
insight into social structures of one commu–nity as well as their connection to surrounding

The English Language
There are thousands of diverse cultures around the globe that offer an abundance of valuable
knowledge. One of the better approaches to studying their ways of life is through their languages.
People often fail to realize just how embedded a culture is within its language. After my mother
remarried, I was introduced to an entirely new world where my dad came from a small country
named Morocco, located at the northeastern tip of Africa, and spoke a strange form of Arabic. I have
always been fascinated by my step–father's language, and now I have the convenient opportunity to
learn more about it for this paper.
WHAT'S IN A NAME?
In my youth, I used to mistakenly believe that English sounded exactly the same no matter where it
was spoken. However, that notion was swiftly retracted as I matured and learned more about the
world. When traveling across the United States, I quickly took notice of an exceptional occurrence
that existed between regions, specifically 'dialect', "a provincial, rural, or socially distinct variety of
a language that differs from the standard language" (Dictionary.com). It was this term that helped
me realize why you drink soda in the north, coke in the south, or pop west of the Great Lakes. All of
these words essentially mean the same thing, they are just called various names depending on which
area you are located in. That is just a glimpse of how English dialects work, and it's not restricted to
the United States alone. Of course, there are plenty of

A Great Variety Of Gender Construction
Daniel Lindsey
Professor Hogue
HIST 449
9 October 2014
Essay One Throughout our class, we have seen a great variety of gender construction. Through
centuries of gender divides, there have been women who created for themselves and that of their
community new identities that not only grew local and worldwide attention, but have inspired
historians for centuries. In the case of Malinche, she used her womanhood to secure her spot with
Cortes, as he conquered and ruled over the Aztecs. Ursela de Jesus contributed to the
Catholic church of her time, and made a new ideal for servant hood as a woman in the church.
Yet not all of these experiences were positive; trials and tribulations often faced Malinche and
Ursela. Through the occcurences of these women it is evident that no matter the circumstance or
outcome, women face a double standard, yet in certain cases use their knowledge to work past these
standards. Malinche was multilingual. Because of her advanced preoccupation with learning
languages and using the detailed experiences of her family background, she was able to advance
Cortes and his army. Upon analyzing the way in which Malinche furthered Cortes, one can deduce
that throughout her life, she was held to an unfair standard of life expectations, simply because she
was a women. When the Spanish came to take women from indigenous communities, kin leaders
often gave in to the wishes of the Spanish, first to save themselves from oppressive rule and next

The Development of New Hybrids for the Wine Industry, ... Why Bother?, or The Answer to Our

For certain Wine viticulturists the harsh winters have always been a problem . Its difficult to grow
most grape varieties in these brutal winter conditions .

owned by Postvue Publication Inc, an Alberta corporation).
The article is subjected as " The hype about Hybrids " and written by Mel Priestly in 2014 . She is a

These hybrid grape wines are usually described as foxy and reminiscent to a wet dog which is not
the quality customers look out for . Not to mention the fact that they are also quite inferior as
compared to the vinifera wines which led to many european nations banning hybrid grape variety
wines .
There are however exceptions and until recently Canada was popularly known as the home to hybrid
grape varieties because they could stand harsh winters which is common in that country. Therefore
Canadian winegrowers focused on hardy, native North American or hybrid varieties. Some of
Canada's wine–growing areas (especially the north of the Okanagan Valley, the Niagara region ,
Nova Scotia and places in Quebec) often still grow hybrids, as they can survive whereas vinifera
varieties simply die.
The white grape hybrid Vidal is used to create a wide variety of commonly drunk icewine in
Niagara, as its thick skin permits it to remain intact at freezing temperatures as opposed to its
vinifera cousins. Many of the Canadian wineries also make wines from red hybrid grapes, both as a
varietal wine and blended with vinifera varieties: Marechal Foch (often just called Foch), Baco Noir
and Leon Millot are most common. Several wineries in the United States also use many of these
grapes, typically in in wine regions that, like those in Canada, struggle to grow vinifera due to harsh
and brutal winters. The white hybrid Seyval Blanc is common in New

Dollar Tree's strategy fits in the prospector's category of Miles and Snow's strategy framework. The
prospector's strategy defines a company as flexible and adaptive to environmental changes (Parnell,

meet the needs of the challenging economy. The retail sector provides operators with an uncertain
environment due to the many changes and challenges it inquires. Dollar Tree is always looking for
new innovations and products they can add to their product mix. Naturally, as new products enter
the market, Dollar Tree's strategy allows them to accept and sell the new products to customers.
Also, Dollar Tree has always been able to offer a low–cost or a single price strategy to their
customers which put stress on their competitors. Furthermore, Dollar tree was the first mover to
accept the one price strategy which is what their brand is known for. Dollar Tree has experience

A Variety Of Collaborative Approaches
Evaluating the Relative Effectiveness of a Variety of Collaborative Approaches In today's
educational environment, the need to evaluate an educator's approach to methods and techniques of
teaching has reached a critical level. The collaborative culture in the schools allows for sharing of
expertise and ideas which make for a strong learning environment (Grand Canyon University,
2012). While various collaborative approaches to education have, according to recent surveys, found
favor by many, resistance still abounds. The effectiveness of collaborative approaches varies based
upon leadership, time constraints, budget restraints, willingness of the participants, and personal
observation in the learning environment. In spite of its limitations, one can argue that a collaborative
approach to classroom education is an effective method of increasing the learning opportunities for
all students.

classroom and in the school curriculum. Making provisions for teachers to work together before or

Varieties of Capitalism Essay
Introduction
Due to the rapid process of globalization, the issue of whether socio–economic institutions and
policies are converging or diverging across different nations has become controversial. Various
literatures on comparative institutional studies has been developed, in which the Varieties of
Capitalism approach by Hall and Soskice (2001) is one of the most significant concepts that is being
widely discussed. According to Hall and Thelen (2005), the 'varieties of capitalism' is a firm–
centered approach where firm is placed as a key actor and is being considered relational. It
emphasizes the concept of institutional complementarities, which '...one set of institutions is

Institutional Complementarities
The concept of institutional complementarities revolves around the notion of the idea that 'the co–
existence (within a given system) of two or more institutions mutually enhances the performance
contribution of each individual institution' (Deeg, 2007. P.611). Hopner (2005) argued that the idea
of complementary implies that different spheres of institutions could only be combined in a number
of ways in order to be effective, which enhanced the theory of the existence of various types of
capitalisms. Hall and Soskice (2001) identified these differences in the varieties of capitalism
literature and then classified economies into liberal market economies and coordinated market
economies, each with its unique institutional complementarities.
The United Kingdom representing LME
Under the VoC framework, economies of various nations are mainly being classified into either
liberal market economies or coordinated market economies. According to Deeg and Jackson (2008),
market competitions and hierarchies are the main ways for firms to coordinate activities with other
spheres in liberal market economies. The supply and demand for products is determined by price
movements in the markets to obtain equilibrium, where market exchanges are conducted in an arm's
length with formal contracting. With stock market financing being the major way to obtain funds,
the financial systems of LMEs operate mainly based on information that are

The Variety of Games in a Casino
There are quite a bit of differences and similarities across all games that I played. First, the designs
are very similar and serve their purposes well. Each design is created with an end goal in mind. The
differences however aren't as subtle. When comparing a casino game to a retro game for instance,
the differences are vast. Interactivity is one of the key differences between quite a few of these
games. Casino games, of course depending on the type, have very little interactivity. The one I
played, which was Slots, was one such example. Make a bet and keep clicking the same button over
and over again hoping for a good turn–out. The retro game on the other hand made me feel like I
actually had a choice in what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go within the game. The worlds
are much more expansion when you take this into consideration. The mobile game and online game
worked pretty similar as well as far as general features. Both support a pay to win option in order to
advance your character or team further. The differences between the two were pretty expansive. One
is played in one world, which is the exact same as all of the others but with different art depending
on the stadium being played in, the other is in a seemingly open world and focuses more on resource
management and tactical battle than scoring points. Most of the games that I played provide some
sort of educational experience though. The simulation teaches people about how life is in poverty,

Case Study Of Saint Chinian
Saint Chinian, a vineyard you must visit
Talking about vineyards and one of the first names that comes to my mind is of Saint Chinian, a
small and beautiful village located in South France. It has a dry and Mediterranean climate which is
best suited for vineyards. It boasts of some of the most famous vineyards and even has a famous
wine named after it, called the Saint–Chinian wine which is produced from here only. The vines that
are planted on the slopes of the hills surrounding this exotic place produce some of the very high
quality wines you would find in the entire world. Saint Chinian is known mainly for its roses, and
the unusual whites. The maximum numbers of the vines planted are of reds and roses which are
called Grenache, Syrah, and Mouvedre. The rest is white and are named Grenache Blanc, Marsanne,
Roussanne Carignan, Clairette, Viognier, Bourboulenc, and more. Here's a bit on the different
varieties of the Mediterranean wine.
Grenache Noir produces wines with aromatics of raspberry & red fruits and mixed spice with
rounded tannins.
Syrah produces wines with intense aromatics of blackberry fruits, pepper spice and violets, and
gives great color and structure.
Mourvèdre loves the heat and produces full–bodied wines with intense tannins, peppery spice
aromatics & blackberry fruit aromatics.

My Nomination For The Champions Of The Community
MY NOMINATION FOR THE "CHAMPIONS OF THE COMMUNITY"

Sometimes the most effective way to evaluate the impact of a community member's work is to
imagine how that community would be different if that person had not been there. It reminds me of
George Bailey in "It's a Wonderful Life." He was given the chance to see what his community would
be like without him.
And so it is for Steve Rock. Without his yeoman's efforts on behalf of the Variety Club Camp and
Development Center, the children with disabilities that it has served for years would have missed
many new learning experiences. For example, there would be no opportunity for the children of the
Greater Phoenixville Area who attend the camp's programs to learn and grow from the thriving,
organically driven "vegetable producing machine" that Steve has created. There would be no
opportunity for the children to learn how to plant, tend, and harvest food from the garden. There
would be no opportunity for the children to learn about the benefits of greenhouse gardening. There
would be no opportunity for children to learn how an aquaponics system that uses tilapia can
enhance fertilization. They would not have an opportunity to learn about the health benefits of
growing vegetables in a pesticide–free environment. And they would not be learning about nutrition,
the science of agriculture and so many other experiences in the world of gardening and agriculture.
In short, none of this would exist at the camp to

Linguistic Factors Of Diglossia
The contact between languages is one of the various fields investigated by socio–linguistics.
Commonly it is thought that monolingualism is the most usual linguistic behaviour but language
studies disprove this belief showing that all speech communities and individuals hold a rich
linguistic repertoire which may include two or more distinct languages, different varieties of the
same language and a wide range of registers, styles, social codes etc.
The concept of linguistic repertoire is not to be intended as a mere sum of linguistic codes since it
also concerns the way such codes interact with one another, their hierarchy and the rules running
their use. In order to clear up the logic underlying the relations emerging from the steady contact
among languages sociolinguistics introduced concepts such as diglossia code–switching,
bilingualism, dilalia etc.
In the following essay the focus will essentially be on the difference between the concepts of
diglossia and code–switching alongside with the description of some examples supported by an
attempt to identify the non–linguistic factors which affect speakers' linguistic choices.

Classical Arabic is the H variety used for very formal interactions, in writing, university lectures and

various regional L varieties. (Holmes 2001: 29) To be acquainted with the principles determining the
choice of the appropriate variety in the right context is relevant in so far as it signals the speaker's
belonging to and understanding of a linguistic culture . In fact the ignorance of such principles is
considered a real social gaffe and is responsible for the stigmatisation of the speakers who are not

other one should, too; similar to walking" (Easy, 2010). With such unique characteristics amongst
the Argentinian people in society and entertainment, there has to be similar diversity amongst the
culinary realm of Argentina's culture. According to that of Argentour.com, "most Argentinians eat
four meals each day. The diet may differ in different regions. Desayuno (breakfast) is a light meal of
rolls and jam with coffee. For almuerzo (lunch), many Argentinians eat meat and vegetables or
salads. After work but before dinner, people go to confiterías (cafés) to drink espresso and eat
picadas, small dishes of cheese, mussels, salami, anchovies, olives and peanuts. Cena (dinner) in the
evening is the largest meal of the day and almost always includes beef" (Argentour, 2012). Beef has

throughout the region. The country of Argentina has proven to contain a unique culture and society.

into comparison with "dialect", "standard language" usually serves as a legitimate variant with the
highest level of excellence (Bex & Watts, 1999). Though positive in nature, standardization – the
procedure of standardizing a language – often raises heated controversy because of its consequences
on not only linguistics field but also the society. In the second part of the essay, I will focus on the
disadvantages of language standardization.
Language standardization is the process of developing a standard for both written and oral language.
It occurs in a specific manner that depends on the community with the social, historical and
geographic aspects ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Non–standard dialects are regarded with contempt, mistreated as improper forms of a language.
Linguists and researchers reported that speakers of minor varieties seem to form negative attitudes
towards their culture, rating their own varieties badly and lacking respect for them (Lambert et al.,
1960; Genesee & Holobow, 1989, as cited in Campbell–Kibler, 2011). With the fear of being
prejudged, speakers of other dialects begin to feel inferior about their vernacular dialect and start to
use the variety with higher status when they are surrounded by outsiders and they would employ
their dialect again only if they are with their tribes (Petyt,

and come in infinite varieties. They are a type of living organism that has no roots, leaves, flowers
or seeds. Mushrooms are actually fungi and in many countries, that is what they are called. There
are countless varieties of Mushrooms that are edible and there are probably just as many or more
that are not edible. The mushrooms that are not edible can be poisonous and can cause severe illness
or worse, death. For that reason, wild mushrooms should not be picked by anyone other than a
trained mycologist. Mushrooms can be purchased dried, canned or fresh. For a long time, even
though there are over 590 species of Mushrooms found growing in California, the only Mushrooms
readily available in the United States for consumption were Brown Mushrooms and White
Mushrooms. Photos of some of the California Mushrooms can be found on Myko Web, a site that
specializes in California Mushrooms. Some mushrooms are so amazingly beautiful that it is hard to
believe that they can be poisonous. With the increasing

Niels Abel Research Paper
Niels Abel and some of his work Many innovational mathematicians come and go, but only a few
remembered for their great accomplishments. Niels Henrik Abel is one of the greatest
mathematicians that have influenced modern mathematics, solving and creating theorems, like the
Abelian–Ruffini theorem and Abel's theorem, and formulas/equations, like the abel equation, Abel's
inequality. He started discovering and creating these at a young age. Niels Abel was born in Norway,
in a neighborhood parish, to Georg Abel, who was a pastor with a degree in theology and
philosophy, and Anne Marie Simonsen, a daughter to a wealthy merchant. Abel was homeschooled
by his father and was giving hand written books to study from. When Norway gained its
independence, Georg Abel was elected to the Norwegian legislature, also known as the Storting, and
George decided to send one of his sons to the cathedral school, at which Georg worked. The
following year he sent his eldest son to the school. this was the first time Niels ever went to school.
Niels started cathedral school at age 13 and was shared rooms and classes with older brothers.
compared to his older brother, Niels didn't seem to be a prodigy because his brothers grades were far
better than his own. Only when a new teacher, Bernt Holmboe, started at the school, did Niels begin
to take interests in math and caught the attention of the new math teacher. Bernt began to give Niels
higher level math and give him extra tutoring. after

How Is Family Dollar Effective
Since the founding in 1959, Family Dollar has succeeded no matter the condition of the economy.
Family Dollar's retail strategy shows to be rather effective in both good and bad economic times.
Family Dollar prides the business on being a small convenience store to satisfy the needs of local
families, primarily low–income based, in the area with a variety of goods and services. Over the
years, Family Dollar has expanded its selection of goods and apparel to include: holiday
decorations, home–cleaning products, pet–related products, and health and beauty aids. However,
Family Dollar reexamined its product selection, strategy, and store layout due to the economic
recession. The poor economy reduced the lower–income customers additional spending

Unity And Variety Of A Little Girl
Unity and Variety In the picture of a little girl looking out of the window to see the raining streets
has the basic principle of design. You can see the unity in the colors of the picture and in how the
girl looks. While variety is in the maturely each item is and the meaning behind each object and how
it looks in the picture. Then there is a mixture of how all of these colors and images combine into a
picture we have now.
Unity is when a picture shows what it has in common with the whole art form. This could be the
color, images, or signs. In the picture of a little girl looking out into the street you feel a certain kind
of sadness when looking at the picture. In the windows you can see the weather outside. The raining
weather adds to the depressing, because the raining sky mixed with the gray atmosphere shows how
the girl feels. Then there is the dark atmosphere that is around the girl and it adds to the gray
atmosphere of the weather that is outside. These two atmospheres add together around the girl that
looks sad and in the picture itself. The meaning behind the picture is that a girl wants to go back to
her homeland in the jungle of Choco, but instead she is staying in an apartment in Bogota. That
alone, just knowing why the girl is sad and why the whole picture looks depressed just adds to the
unity design of the whole thing. Now variety is the opposite of unity. In a sense it just means that
things that are opposite just add on to the picture.
Variety is when

Data Analysis of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
DATAANALYSIS OF WAL–MART STORES, INC COMPANY BACKGROUND Wal–Mart
initially began its operations in 1945, when Sam Walton leased a 'Ben Franklin' franchise variety
store in Newport, Arkansas. After relocating to Rogers, Arkansas in the early 1950s, Sam Walton's
'Ben Franklin' became 'Walton's 5 & 10'. By 1962, Walton found himself the chain owner of 11
different Walton's stores across Arkansas. He then decided to rename the chain 'Wal–Mart', after
himself. On October 31, 1969, after further expansion across the state, the chain was incorporated as
Wal–Mart Stores, Inc. Three years later, Wal–Mart was approved and listed on the New York Stock

Although its policy prohibits off–the–clock work, Wal–Mart has created a system of rewards and
punishments that seem to give managers strong incentives to demand such work. According to one
policy, described in a deposition by a senior payroll executive, store managers are ordered to keep
payroll costs below a target set by headquarters for every store. If a store misses its target, the
manager faces a reprimand, and sometimes demotion or dismissal. Another incentive Wal–Mart
gives store managers to squeeze down labor costs is pegging annual bonuses to the profits of
individual stores, a system that is rare amongst big retailers. OBJECTIVE OF STUDY For this
study, I will record the daily closing stock prices for Wal–Mart Stores, Inc. between the dates of
December 3, 2007 and January 31, 2008. I will then use Microsoft Excel to carry out several
calculations using this data, in order to find such statistical measures as the mean, median, sample
variance and standard deviation. I will then use the resulting figures to compare Wal–Mart's stock
performance in December 2007 to its performance in January 2008. I am carrying out this study in
order to prove that Wal–Mart Stores, Inc. had an equal mean of stock performance for the months of
December 2007 and January 2008. DESCRIPTION OF DATA The data used in this study are the 41

The Resource Dependency Theory Of Wal Mart Stores, Inc.
For this assignment, the writer commences by exploring "Resource Dependency Theory" as the
understanding of this hypothesis is vital. Next, an overview will be undertaken in terms of the
selected organisation –that is, Wal–Mart Stores, Inc. After, the paper will present a brief description
of the relationship between Walmart and its suppliers. It then goes on to highlight the managerial
bridging strategies that the company uses in dealing with the organisations it depends on for
resources. These strategies are: negotiation, contracts, interlocking directorates, joint ventures,
strategic alliances, and mergers and acquisitions.
About Resource Dependency Theory
Hillman (2009) indicated that "Resource Dependence Theory" refers to a business entity as an open
mechanism that is reliant on contingencies in the external environment (p.2). That is, the theory
views a business in relation to its resource dependences with other businesses in the environment
(Salazar, 2012). Pfeffer and Salancik (as cited in Sheppard, 1995, p.28), stated that the essence of a
company's survival concerns its ability to get and maintain resources. The hypothesis helps explain
why businesses should enter into exchanges with related parties and the manner in which the entity
can maintain its survival. Pfeffer and Salancik (as cited in Sheppard, 1995, p. 28 – 29) conveyed that
this survival occurs via demand management, namely the demands of interest associates upon which
the entities rely on for resources

For Mystical Creatures And Humans, There Are A Variety
For mystical creatures and humans, there are a variety of differences that each other needs to know.
For both the development of their relationship in a TV show or film would be demonstrated as the
human getting to know how their loved one survives and how they would not get killed by them;
they would also demonstrate the idea of how the vampire is so deeply in love that he would never
hurt the human. As an example: Elena learns about vampires from the Salvatore brothers, Stefan and
Damon, when they both fall in love with her. At first they try to hide it but later it becomes too
obvious to keep away from Elena since supernatural powers came up (super speed, compelling). As

Modern day vampire's capabilities of giving and receiving love give the insight that they are much
more human than what they were perceived in previous novels. Earlier stories like Dracula and The
Vampyre demonstrated lust over love because the main idea was to seduce humans to fall for them
then kill them which was how it made them look like monsters; with TVD and Twilight, self–control
plays a major role when vampires are around those they love, they learn to control the urges of
biting them and use an alternative option like drinking animal blood instead of human blood. They
care more about the safety and feelings of the human rather than their own selfish desire for human
blood; therefore they create a more sentimental idea and demonstrate a form of love by doing this.
The human also shows their love by learning how to accustom their new life with their vampire
lover. The mortal has to cooperate with what the vampire does to stay alive like still eat animals for
the need of blood. They too have their fair amount of work and need to follow rules in order to stay
in this dangerous relationship because loving the supernatural does not come easy. Elena in TVD
used a necklace with vervain (harmful plant for vampires) to keep herself safe from any compelling
or bites from any vampire including her boyfriend. In Twilight, Bella did not use anything but
Edward would protect her from other vampires wanting her blood. But

buy in bulk and have items delivered to your house which in turns saves you money. Dollar Tree's
online store is a great tool to have; however, you have to buy in bulk online. With that being said
that means when you go to check out you have to have the minimum amount of each item, which
can be a pain. It is still nice to look and see what they have, and possibly buy sets of containers or

you can get things for almost nothing and sometimes completely free. It helps tremendously when
you have a tight budget. Due to all the advancements in technology even your local Dollar Tree has

Essay on Variety in The Merchant's Tale
Use of Variety in The Merchant's Tale
The Merchant's Tale tells the story of an old man searching for a wife and finding one, who is
ultimately unfaithful to him. Chaucer uses a variety of elements in the poem to show his knowledge
of contemporary interests and his story telling capacity through another figure. Irony flows through
the poem, laced with allusions to the Bible. Chaucer's use of his astronomical knowledge not only
allows modern day scholars to date events, but also adds another dimension of interest for the
contemporary audience and of course, the pilgrims.
Januarie's discussion of Heaven and Hell leads to the idea of marriage providing a Heaven on Earth.

Chaucer's knowledge of astronomy becomes evident at many points during the poem and has been
useful for modern scholars wishing to date the Tale. The wedding day has been put down as Lady
Day, 25th March 1392. Discussion of astronomy and the sky brings forth more elaborate language
as on the evening of the wedding day, the phrase "Parfourned as the sonne his ark diourne" (l.583)
introduces the next events of the day. In addition to this, there is always another dimension to the
story. The wedding of Januarie and May takes place when Mars and Venus are in conjunction. This
combination of the warring god and the god of love cannot bode well for the marriage, especially
combined with the heavily ironic emphasis on Januarie's concern for having his Heaven on Earth.
The marriage of May and Januarie brings attention to their names. While the spring month of May is
full of life, the winter month of January is a new beginning (to the year), but still contains the cold
deadness of winter. Eventually, spring defeats winter. There is a stark contrast between the
characters of May and Januarie. The latter's roughness is especially focused upon on the wedding
night. His skin is "Lyk to the skyn of houndfyssh" and there is an almost repulsive focus on his
appearance. May is a much livelier, younger character and so Damyan, the lovesick squire seems

THE EFFECTS OF ALBEDO LED LIGHTING ON RETAIL SPACES
Opposite to some popular wisdom, retail stores are not dead, and they will not be replaced by online

A store can install a variety of LED lighting options to backlight products or to create indirect or
quiet lighting in different parts of a store. Display cases for smaller items, such as jewelry of
personal fashion can be lit with brighter LED's that draw attention to fine patterns and textures.
Since LED lights operate at low temperatures and without creating the excess heat that is just like
traditional display case lighting, the store's products that are bought and sold will not be harmed by
any excess warmth in display cases.
Many stores operate on thin (how much money is being made), which forces them to reduce
operating costs wherever possible. LED lighting for retail has the possible ability to reduce a retail
store's electrical utility costs by more than half. Modern LED lighting is so (producing a lot with
very little waste) that it can create the same or better lighting as a traditional lighting fixture with
less than half of the electrical energy input. LED bulbs also last longer than other forms of lighting,
and the store's lighting maintenance costs will be reduced. LED lighting for retail therefore has the
possible ability to increase a store's sales and to reduce overhead costs, all of which gives directly to
a store's (money made/good things received).
Stores that operate stand alone locations that are separate from large malls and other shopping
outlets can make their stores more inviting with bright exterior LED lighting. A shopper will

Logically, Dollar Tree business model enriches the customer experience. Its stores are strategically

Competitors such as Dollar General and Family Dollar have similar stores, but they do not have

Nonetheless, Dollar Tree acknowledges its market power; its competitors, Wal–Mart, Dollar

Advertising Affects A Wide Variety
Advertising is a concept all Americans have been exposed to in their lives. It is a normal component
of life that affects Americans more than they are led to believe. Advertising is constantly evolving.
Advertising has been forced to change to meet up with the changing of times. The price spent on
advertising raises at a rapid rate each and every year. Moreover, the every increasing money spent
on advertising shows that it is effective on reaching and influencing the American consumer.
Advertising affects a wide variety and a large amount of people. According to The Statistics Portal,
"The United States is, by far, the largest advertising market in the world. In 2015, more than 180
billion U.S. dollars were spent in advertising in the United States. This figure is more than double
the amount spent in advertising in China, the second largest ad market in the world." From this, it is
effortless to see that American's are highly exposed to advertisements.
According to the International Advertising Association, "Advertising can encourage companies to

The Logic Behind Discount Retailing

  • 1. The Logic Behind Discount Retailing Sam Walton came from humble beginnings in Arkansas, the high school star quarter back which after graduating from College, got his first retail job at J.C. Penney's. After serving in the Army from 1942–45, Sam borrowed $25,000 from his father in law and purchased his first local Ben Franklin Variety Store (6), many more soon followed. Sam did rather well with the variety stores. He figured out a concept of buying in bulk and passing that savings on to his customers. Eventually Sam determined that he would not be able to pursue his vision (of discount stores in rural areas) while under the constrictions of the franchise. In the early 1960s, discount retailing was sweeping across America. The logic behind discount retailing is simple (Walton and Huey, 1992): "by cutting your price, you can boost your sales to a point where you earn far more at the cheaper retail price than you would have by selling the item at the higher price. In retailer language, you can lower your markup but earn more because of the increased volume" (4). In 1962 Sam decided to venture out with his own plan and build the first Walmart discount store. Although Walton was not the first on the discounting bandwagon, he adopted the idea early and applied it to the otherwise untapped small town market (2). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Dollar Tree Case Study Dollar Tree was originally a part of K&K toys, but grew to the point that the original company was divested in order to focus all efforts on growing the dollar store business, and that has proven to be an extremely intelligent maneuver (Parnell, 2014). Thru a series of acquisitions and internal growth, Dollar Tree has become a Fortune 500 company and their July purchase of Family Dollar resulted in a major retailer with 13,600 stores in forty eight states and five Canadian provinces (Dollar Tree, 2015a, Dollar Tree, 2015b). By opening more than two hundred and sixty stores since July of this year, Dollar Tree shows their intention to continue to grow their market share with a targeted approach focusing on low and lower middle income customers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While attempting to target lower incomes, Dollar Tree has attracted number of middle and upper middle income consumers with their small sized discount variety store approach which sells everything for a dollar or less (Piller & Strong, 2015). Since the stores are smaller, and everything must be fairly inexpensive to meet their one dollar price point, Dollar Tree limits their retail categories to consumables, inexpensive toys, housewares, and greeting cards. Dollar type stores, also known as deep–discount retailers, have nearly doubled the performance of the S&P 500, but Dollar Tree has significantly outperformed the completion with an eight hundred percent increase in the past ten years. Their operating margins and return on equity are the best in the dollar store industry, and their 2014 sales average of 1.73 million per store is nearly ten percent higher than their closest ... • 9. Research Paper On Diglossia Diglossia The following research paper will give an introduction to an important part of sociolinguistic that called "Diglossia". The first part will be a theoretical part explaining expressions and terms related to the topic. The aim of my research is to explore which language is used by bunch of people in many different situations. Diglossia definition: In many communities where people use two varieties or more of the same language in various situations, comes a phenomenon that called diglossia. The aim of this research paper is to talk about diglossia in Arab countries. First to start with the term diglossia; it was presented into the English language at first by Charles Ferguson; he first used this term in one of his articles he wrote in 1959. According to Ferguson diglossia is "one particular kind of standardization where two varieties of a language exist side by side throughout the community and each one is used for different purposes, one is more standard variety that called the high variety or (H) which is used for example in educational institutions like lectures at universities. The other one is called the low variety or (L) which is used in manly social interactions. The features of diglossia: The different uses of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example when two speakers engage in trade and neither know the other's language, the language used between them we call it pidgin, so it is a mix of completely different languages. Creol on the other hand arises when a pidgin becomes a native language of a new generation. These theories believed to cause the language drift like for example if one Arab man married to non Arab woman it would likely have led to communication using biginized form of Arabic and the children who would be result of the marriage probably would have spoken creolised ... • 13. Is Language In Interaction One of the first things that comes into your mind when you hear the word "language" is communication, isn't it? However language is much more than just communication. Language is what makes you different from other human beings. Thanks to it, you can communicate with others, express who you are, your ideas, feelings, thoughts, discomforts, etc. With language you can even change the world, you can hurt a person or you can love a person. Language has many more aspects than what you might think, some of them are: language choice, code switching, language in interaction and finally language and gender. The first aspect that language has is language choice in which, you can choose what kind of language you want to use for a conversation. For example, when you talk to your friends you use a certain type of language and when you talk to your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According with Mesthrie R. "language in interaction is how speakers use language in interaction with others, how they hold conversations, tell stories, make jokes, argue or tease one another" (2009, p.183). In easier words, language in interaction is linguistic exchange. There are some characteristics in Language in interaction: Construction of identity: it refers to your interaction with others, you construct an identity which includes your ethnic identity, national identity, cultural identity, gender, age, status etc. And this construction of identity occurs through face to face interaction. However, not necessarily in every interaction you construct all of these aspects. An illustration of these would be: when you talk to others you get a self–concept by the way that you act, move, express or talk. Face to face interaction: refers to when you are talking to others physically present in real time. For example when you are talking in a video call with your friends of another country or also it can be when you are talking with your boyfriend in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Explore the Varieties of and Attitudes to Texting Explore the varieties of and attitudes to texting With technology rife in today's society are the boundaries between spoken and written language becoming ever nearer? It seems that young children, teenagers, adults and even the elderly are all turning to mobile devices as an aid of communication. The frequent use of texting has brought about new features, such as clipping, that are unique to the texting world, this is thought to be putting a strain on our abilities to use correct Standard English. In this essay I will explore the variety of language and text specific features used within text messaging. I will also analyse the various attitudes towards texting and finally give my own opinion. The 1900's was the beginning of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Oliver's first reply he writes 'what r we havin', now this seems to be a question yet he uses no punctuation to imply that it is. Even so Abbie replies with an answer; this indicates that because they are siblings they can relate. In data set two (a text conversation between Abbie and her friend Ella, both aged 15) a lot of features are used. Firstly both Abbie and Ella use emoticons, this is too show each person how the other is feeling. They also use x's and o's to reveal emotion and as these letters together mean 'hugs and kisses'; it shows that they are happy and not angry or upset. Something that symbolises Ella and Abbie's age and that they are friends is the word 'goon', this word is generally used by teenagers in a joking manor and it means idiot. Finally the time between each text being received is fairly short, this could be because teenagers use their phones a lot; therefore they always have them on hand. It may also be because they are anticipating a reply, which means they are getting ready to respond, and if Abbie and Ella were talking face to face they would do the same; this is called 'turn –taking.' Lastly in data set three (a text conversation between Abbie and her Grandma) correct spelling and capitals have been used and the punctuation is perfect. This is because Abbie's Grandma is new to texting and has therefore not been introduced to 'text talk' and uses correct English grammar and so on. For Abbie's text messages to be ... • 21. The Role Of Perceptual Dialectology In order to take full advantage of research in the field of perceptual dialectology, it is essential to not view it as an isolated discipline but to discuss it in the framework of linguistics and other fields it touches upon. According to Preston, perceptual dialectolo–gy is a sub–category of folk linguistics, which itself belongs to sociolinguistics. He in–cludes the study of both, conscious and subconscious responses to language variation in the term (Preston 2011: 15), and emphasizes the importance of cognitive processes into consideration, making it synonymous with the term attitude studies ("or the social psy–chology of language") (Preston 2013: 93). It contrasts traditional dialectology, in that it is not primarily based on linguistic data but rather on perceived impressions (Hiraga 2005: 291). Preston further uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This relates to the aforementioned dialect image that respondents have in mind. Whether they do it consciously or subconsciously, participants perceive speech that is non–standard to be less prestigious and incorrect. The judgments they make about dialect speakers is based on social stereotypes (Lam and O'Brien 2014: 152). Perceptual dialectology helps to identify these stereotypes and analyze the rela–tionships between different speech communities. Participants mirror their attitudes to–wards other communities in their attitudes towards their respective language variety. The study of peoples' responses to different dialects does not only concern different language features but also the community itself (Evans 2013: 64). Iannàccaro and Dell'Aquila agree that studies show perceptions on the inside of a community, as they are always based on opinions from members of the community living there (2001: 265). Therefore, perceptual dialectology delivers insight into social structures of one commu–nity as well as their connection to surrounding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. The English Language There are thousands of diverse cultures around the globe that offer an abundance of valuable knowledge. One of the better approaches to studying their ways of life is through their languages. People often fail to realize just how embedded a culture is within its language. After my mother remarried, I was introduced to an entirely new world where my dad came from a small country named Morocco, located at the northeastern tip of Africa, and spoke a strange form of Arabic. I have always been fascinated by my step–father's language, and now I have the convenient opportunity to learn more about it for this paper. WHAT'S IN A NAME? In my youth, I used to mistakenly believe that English sounded exactly the same no matter where it was spoken. However, that notion was swiftly retracted as I matured and learned more about the world. When traveling across the United States, I quickly took notice of an exceptional occurrence that existed between regions, specifically 'dialect', "a provincial, rural, or socially distinct variety of a language that differs from the standard language" (Dictionary.com). It was this term that helped me realize why you drink soda in the north, coke in the south, or pop west of the Great Lakes. All of these words essentially mean the same thing, they are just called various names depending on which area you are located in. That is just a glimpse of how English dialects work, and it's not restricted to the United States alone. Of course, there are plenty of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. A Great Variety Of Gender Construction Daniel Lindsey Professor Hogue HIST 449 9 October 2014 Essay One Throughout our class, we have seen a great variety of gender construction. Through centuries of gender divides, there have been women who created for themselves and that of their community new identities that not only grew local and worldwide attention, but have inspired historians for centuries. In the case of Malinche, she used her womanhood to secure her spot with Cortes, as he conquered and ruled over the Aztecs. Ursela de Jesus contributed to the Catholic church of her time, and made a new ideal for servant hood as a woman in the church. Yet not all of these experiences were positive; trials and tribulations often faced Malinche and Ursela. Through the occcurences of these women it is evident that no matter the circumstance or outcome, women face a double standard, yet in certain cases use their knowledge to work past these standards. Malinche was multilingual. Because of her advanced preoccupation with learning languages and using the detailed experiences of her family background, she was able to advance Cortes and his army. Upon analyzing the way in which Malinche furthered Cortes, one can deduce that throughout her life, she was held to an unfair standard of life expectations, simply because she was a women. When the Spanish came to take women from indigenous communities, kin leaders often gave in to the wishes of the Spanish, first to save themselves from oppressive rule and next ... These hybrid grape wines are usually described as foxy and reminiscent to a wet dog which is not the quality customers look out for . Not to mention the fact that they are also quite inferior as compared to the vinifera wines which led to many european nations banning hybrid grape variety wines . There are however exceptions and until recently Canada was popularly known as the home to hybrid grape varieties because they could stand harsh winters which is common in that country. Therefore Canadian winegrowers focused on hardy, native North American or hybrid varieties. Some of Canada's wine–growing areas (especially the north of the Okanagan Valley, the Niagara region , Nova Scotia and places in Quebec) often still grow hybrids, as they can survive whereas vinifera varieties simply die. The white grape hybrid Vidal is used to create a wide variety of commonly drunk icewine in Niagara, as its thick skin permits it to remain intact at freezing temperatures as opposed to its vinifera cousins. Many of the Canadian wineries also make wines from red hybrid grapes, both as a varietal wine and blended with vinifera varieties: Marechal Foch (often just called Foch), Baco Noir and Leon Millot are most common. Several wineries in the United States also use many of these grapes, typically in in wine regions that, like those in Canada, struggle to grow vinifera due to harsh and brutal winters. A Variety Of Collaborative Approaches Evaluating the Relative Effectiveness of a Variety of Collaborative Approaches In today's educational environment, the need to evaluate an educator's approach to methods and techniques of teaching has reached a critical level. The collaborative culture in the schools allows for sharing of expertise and ideas which make for a strong learning environment (Grand Canyon University, 2012). While various collaborative approaches to education have, according to recent surveys, found favor by many, resistance still abounds. The effectiveness of collaborative approaches varies based upon leadership, time constraints, budget restraints, willingness of the participants, and personal observation in the learning environment. Varieties of Capitalism Essay Introduction Due to the rapid process of globalization, the issue of whether socio–economic institutions and policies are converging or diverging across different nations has become controversial. Various literatures on comparative institutional studies has been developed, in which the Varieties of Capitalism approach by Hall and Soskice (2001) is one of the most significant concepts that is being widely discussed. According to Hall and Thelen (2005), the 'varieties of capitalism' is a firm– centered approach where firm is placed as a key actor and is being considered relational. Institutional Complementarities The concept of institutional complementarities revolves around the notion of the idea that 'the co– existence (within a given system) of two or more institutions mutually enhances the performance contribution of each individual institution' (Deeg, 2007. Hopner (2005) argued that the idea of complementary implies that different spheres of institutions could only be combined in a number of ways in order to be effective, which enhanced the theory of the existence of various types of capitalisms. Hall and Soskice (2001) identified these differences in the varieties of capitalism literature and then classified economies into liberal market economies and coordinated market economies, each with its unique institutional complementarities. • 57. The Variety of Games in a Casino There are quite a bit of differences and similarities across all games that I played. First, the designs are very similar and serve their purposes well. Each design is created with an end goal in mind. The differences however aren't as subtle. When comparing a casino game to a retro game for instance, the differences are vast. Interactivity is one of the key differences between quite a few of these games. Casino games, of course depending on the type, have very little interactivity. The one I played, which was Slots, was one such example. Make a bet and keep clicking the same button over and over again hoping for a good turn–out. The retro game on the other hand made me feel like I actually had a choice in what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go within the game. The worlds are much more expansion when you take this into consideration. The mobile game and online game worked pretty similar as well as far as general features. Both support a pay to win option in order to advance your character or team further. The differences between the two were pretty expansive. One is played in one world, which is the exact same as all of the others but with different art depending on the stadium being played in, the other is in a seemingly open world and focuses more on resource management and tactical battle than scoring points. Most of the games that I played provide some sort of educational experience though. The simulation teaches people about how life is in poverty, the educational ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Case Study Of Saint Chinian Saint Chinian, a vineyard you must visit Talking about vineyards and one of the first names that comes to my mind is of Saint Chinian, a small and beautiful village located in South France. It has a dry and Mediterranean climate which is best suited for vineyards. It boasts of some of the most famous vineyards and even has a famous wine named after it, called the Saint–Chinian wine which is produced from here only. The vines that are planted on the slopes of the hills surrounding this exotic place produce some of the very high quality wines you would find in the entire world. Saint Chinian is known mainly for its roses, and the unusual whites. The maximum numbers of the vines planted are of reds and roses which are called Grenache, Syrah, and Mouvedre. The rest is white and are named Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne Carignan, Clairette, Viognier, Bourboulenc, and more. Here's a bit on the different varieties of the Mediterranean wine. Grenache Noir produces wines with aromatics of raspberry & red fruits and mixed spice with rounded tannins. My Nomination For The Champions Of The Community MY NOMINATION FOR THE "CHAMPIONS OF THE COMMUNITY" AWARDS PROGRAM Sometimes the most effective way to evaluate the impact of a community member's work is to imagine how that community would be different if that person had not been there. Without his yeoman's efforts on behalf of the Variety Club Camp and Development Center, the children with disabilities that it has served for years would have missed many new learning experiences. For example, there would be no opportunity for the children of the Greater Phoenixville Area who attend the camp's programs to learn and grow from the thriving, organically driven "vegetable producing machine" that Steve has created. There would be no opportunity for the children to learn how to plant, tend, and harvest food from the garden. There would be no opportunity for the children to learn about the benefits of greenhouse gardening. There would be no opportunity for children to learn how an aquaponics system that uses tilapia can enhance fertilization. They would not have an opportunity to learn about the health benefits of growing vegetables in a pesticide–free environment. Commonly it is thought that monolingualism is the most usual linguistic behaviour but language studies disprove this belief showing that all speech communities and individuals hold a rich linguistic repertoire which may include two or more distinct languages, different varieties of the same language and a wide range of registers, styles, social codes etc. The concept of linguistic repertoire is not to be intended as a mere sum of linguistic codes since it also concerns the way such codes interact with one another, their hierarchy and the rules running their use. In order to clear up the logic underlying the relations emerging from the steady contact among languages sociolinguistics introduced concepts such as diglossia code–switching, bilingualism, dilalia etc. In the following essay the focus will essentially be on the difference between the concepts of diglossia and code–switching alongside with the description of some examples supported by an attempt to identify the non–linguistic factors which affect speakers' linguistic choices. Niels Henrik Abel is one of the greatest mathematicians that have influenced modern mathematics, solving and creating theorems, like the Abelian–Ruffini theorem and Abel's theorem, and formulas/equations, like the abel equation, Abel's inequality. You can see the unity in the colors of the picture and in how the girl looks. While variety is in the maturely each item is and the meaning behind each object and how it looks in the picture. Then there is a mixture of how all of these colors and images combine into a picture we have now. Unity is when a picture shows what it has in common with the whole art form. This could be the color, images, or signs. In the picture of a little girl looking out into the street you feel a certain kind of sadness when looking at the picture. In the windows you can see the weather outside. The raining weather adds to the depressing, because the raining sky mixed with the gray atmosphere shows how the girl feels. Then there is the dark atmosphere that is around the girl and it adds to the gray atmosphere of the weather that is outside. These two atmospheres add together around the girl that looks sad and in the picture itself. The meaning behind the picture is that a girl wants to go back to her homeland in the jungle of Choco, but instead she is staying in an apartment in Bogota. That alone, just knowing why the girl is sad and why the whole picture looks depressed just adds to the unity design of the whole thing. Now variety is the opposite of unity. DATAANALYSIS OF WAL–MART STORES, INC COMPANY BACKGROUND Wal–Mart initially began its operations in 1945, when Sam Walton leased a 'Ben Franklin' franchise variety store in Newport, Arkansas. After relocating to Rogers, Arkansas in the early 1950s, Sam Walton's 'Ben Franklin' became 'Walton's 5 & 10'. By 1962, Walton found himself the chain owner of 11 different Walton's stores across Arkansas. He then decided to rename the chain 'Wal–Mart', after himself. On October 31, 1969, after further expansion across the state, the chain was incorporated as Wal–Mart Stores, Inc. If a store misses its target, the manager faces a reprimand, and sometimes demotion or dismissal. Another incentive Wal–Mart gives store managers to squeeze down labor costs is pegging annual bonuses to the profits of individual stores, a system that is rare amongst big retailers. Next, an overview will be undertaken in terms of the selected organisation –that is, Wal–Mart Stores, Inc. After, the paper will present a brief description of the relationship between Walmart and its suppliers. It then goes on to highlight the managerial bridging strategies that the company uses in dealing with the organisations it depends on for resources. These strategies are: negotiation, contracts, interlocking directorates, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and mergers and acquisitions. About Resource Dependency Theory Hillman (2009) indicated that "Resource Dependence Theory" refers to a business entity as an open mechanism that is reliant on contingencies in the external environment (p.2). That is, the theory views a business in relation to its resource dependences with other businesses in the environment (Salazar, 2012). Pfeffer and Salancik (as cited in Sheppard, 1995, p.28), stated that the essence of a company's survival concerns its ability to get and maintain resources. The hypothesis helps explain why businesses should enter into exchanges with related parties and the manner in which the entity can maintain its survival. As an example: Elena learns about vampires from the Salvatore brothers, Stefan and Damon, when they both fall in love with her. Modern day vampire's capabilities of giving and receiving love give the insight that they are much more human than what they were perceived in previous novels. Earlier stories like Dracula and The Vampyre demonstrated lust over love because the main idea was to seduce humans to fall for them then kill them which was how it made them look like monsters; with TVD and Twilight, self–control plays a major role when vampires are around those they love, they learn to control the urges of biting them and use an alternative option like drinking animal blood instead of human blood. They care more about the safety and feelings of the human rather than their own selfish desire for human blood; therefore they create a more sentimental idea and demonstrate a form of love by doing this. The human also shows their love by learning how to accustom their new life with their vampire lover. The mortal has to cooperate with what the vampire does to stay alive like still eat animals for the need of blood. Essay on Variety in The Merchant's Tale Use of Variety in The Merchant's Tale The Merchant's Tale tells the story of an old man searching for a wife and finding one, who is ultimately unfaithful to him. Chaucer uses a variety of elements in the poem to show his knowledge of contemporary interests and his story telling capacity through another figure. Irony flows through the poem, laced with allusions to the Bible. Chaucer's use of his astronomical knowledge not only allows modern day scholars to date events, but also adds another dimension of interest for the contemporary audience and of course, the pilgrims. The wedding day has been put down as Lady Day, 25th March 1392. Discussion of astronomy and the sky brings forth more elaborate language as on the evening of the wedding day, the phrase "Parfourned as the sonne his ark diourne" (l.583) introduces the next events of the day. In addition to this, there is always another dimension to the story. The wedding of Januarie and May takes place when Mars and Venus are in conjunction. This combination of the warring god and the god of love cannot bode well for the marriage, especially combined with the heavily ironic emphasis on Januarie's concern for having his Heaven on Earth. The marriage of May and Januarie brings attention to their names. While the spring month of May is full of life, the winter month of January is a new beginning (to the year), but still contains the cold deadness of winter. Eventually, spring defeats winter. There is a stark contrast between the characters of May and Januarie. The latter's roughness is especially focused upon on the wedding night. His skin is "Lyk to the skyn of houndfyssh" and there is an almost repulsive focus on his appearance. May is a much livelier, younger character and so Damyan, the lovesick squire seems ... A store can install a variety of LED lighting options to backlight products or to create indirect or quiet lighting in different parts of a store. Display cases for smaller items, such as jewelry of personal fashion can be lit with brighter LED's that draw attention to fine patterns and textures. Since LED lights operate at low temperatures and without creating the excess heat that is just like traditional display case lighting, the store's products that are bought and sold will not be harmed by any excess warmth in display cases. Many stores operate on thin (how much money is being made), which forces them to reduce operating costs wherever possible. LED lighting for retail has the possible ability to reduce a retail store's electrical utility costs by more than half. Modern LED lighting is so (producing a lot with very little waste) that it can create the same or better lighting as a traditional lighting fixture with less than half of the electrical energy input. LED bulbs also last longer than other forms of lighting, and the store's lighting maintenance costs will be reduced.
