2. Wolves Essay
Wolves
The wolf was once a much slandered animal. In the western world, people feared and hated wolves,
and this legacy is reflected in stories such as Little Red Riding Hood and The Boy Who Cried Wolf.
In these popular children's tales the wolf is made out to be a prowler and a killer of livestock and
people. There is some basis for The Boy Who Cried Wolf, forwolves have killed cattle and sheep.
But what of Little Red Riding Hood? There are no records of wolves killing humans in Canada or
the United States. Yet, when wolves were spotted near rural communities, fear used to grip the
populace, but over time this has become less prevalent.
Today, many people know that scientists studying wolves have lived very close to dens where there

A single pack may contain animals that are black, shades of gray–brown, and white. Wolves in the
heavily forested areas of eastern North America are more uniform in color. They are often a grizzled
gray–brown like some German shepherd dogs. This color variation is a good example of natural
selection, which enables those animals best suited to a particular environment to survive. On the
arctic islands, where much of the ground is snow–covered for at least nine months of the year, being
white is a distinct advantage, so wolves in the Arctic may be nearly white. In the mottled grey,
green, and brown world of the eastern forests the normal coat of the wolf is an effective
camouflage. As a wolf moves stealthily, or rests, it blends into the background and is hardly seen.
Wolves in the Arctic have extremely dense under–fur, which insulates them against rigorous winters.
Another adaptation to environment is their habit of hunting in packs, or groups, which enables them
to kill large animals.
The wolves' habit of hunting in packs has resulted in the development of complex patterns of
social behavior. Wolves are gregarious: they not only hunt in packs or groups but live most of their
lives with other wolves. Studies in Alaska, Minnesota, Michigan , and parts of Canada show that a
family made up of male, female, and pups is the basic pack unit. Other adults are pups of previous
years or, more rarely, adults from other packs. Adolescent

4. The Trickster Essay
The Trickster
Karl Jung's explanation for the archetypes that surface in cultural and religious literature is that they
are the product of what he calls the collective unconsciousness. That thread of consciousness that
connects all human beings and cultures around the world. Yet it is not visible to the naked eye, one
must look for the signs of it by researching cultures who are long gone and comparing them to each
other and our own. Studying it reminds us that all humans are bound together by a common source.
The "Trickster" is an archetype that surfaces in many cultural and religious stories. Each
trickster is unique to it's own culture, but all tricksters are bound by certain characteristics no...show

He is always attempting to fly (which is the sign of a god to the Native Americans) with disastrous
consequences. No matter how hard he tries he cannot escape the human condition. Perhaps these
stories are meant to teach Native Americans not to aspire to be anything more than human.
The Trickster can be seen as a parody of the Shaman, or the spiritual leader of the tribe. The
Shaman looks to the supernatural for his strength while the coyote relies on his own wits. The
coyote is always looking for the short cut. Through meditation the Shaman is said to be able to fly.
This is a sign of his divinity. The coyote always has an elaborate scheme for flight, like hitching a
ride with a buzzard, but the end is always the same.( p.87 Hynes and
Doty)
Does this character sound familiar? Millions of kids grew up with this very same character, but
we knew him as Wile Coyote. The Looney Toons character that was always after the Road Runner.
The creators of him were interested in the comedic value they saw in Native American stories and
adapted him into a cartoon. Wile would come up with some elaborate schemes, but in the end the
result was always the same. The long fall from the cliff to the ground.
The Trickster of Greek mythology was a God by the name of Hermes. Once again we see a sort of
bridge between the average man and the gods. Hermes is the only God in Greek mythology that

5. Greatest Invention Essays
What is the greatest invention of all time?
Throughout time there have been lots of new inventions which have both hindered and helped
everyday life with humans. There are many different possible world's greatest inventions because
they have all helped out humankind in some way, some more than others.
I think that the greatest invention of all time is Harnessed Electricity. Some may argue that this was
not an invention it was a discovery but although electricity itself was a discovery there was still the
invention of had to use it and what it could be used for. I think that electricity is very important to
human life because it would be nearly impossible to do anything we do today. If we didn't have
electricity a lot of things would...show more content...
I believe that the use of electricity in healthcare is more important than the use of penicillin because
of the x–rays, MRI scans, life support machines, cat scans, ultrasound, surgery lighting, heart rate
monitors, incubators and loads of other much needed specialist equipment. This equipment has
over the years helped to save millions of lives and although penicillin helps to treat the odd few
illnesses it doesn't help to run a well equipped hospital which saves even more lives with the billions
of people who visit a hospital every year.
Without electricity there would be no light and it would constantly be dark from around 4pm ever
day. This would restrict most people from doing things because as soon as it was dark they would
have to go to bed because there would be no lighting. Nobody could go out after dark as there
would be no street lights on the roads and houses would have to be lit by candle light which
wouldn't give of the strength of light that a light bulb does now. Yet again it would be exactly like
living in the dark ages.

7. Therapy Dogs Essay
As the saying goes, a dog is a man's best friend. The dog is a loving companion to a man. He is
happy to go everywhere with his master. He shows his affection for his master by wagging his tail
and licking his hand or face. This timeless relationship continues to evolve into new kinds of
human–dog interactions that increasingly benefit society. This has led to the belief that dogs can
provide company, affection and support to people who are going through a difficult time or who
feel lonely. Dogs have aided humans in tasks such as hunting, livestock herding, and guarding.
However, as society moved from small rural communities to increasingly large metropolitan areas,
the dog's role changed. Throughout the years a more specific type of...show more content...
As a result, Smoky became the first therapy dog we know of. (Visser 2013) There are between 45
to 55 million dogs per household in America (American Humane Association 2012). Furthermore,
according to a national survey, the majority of dog owners chose to get a dog for the
companionship as the major reason for having a dog (American Animal Hospital Association, 2004).
After all, dogs are nonjudgmental, give unconditional love, can be trusted with our most intimate
feelings and emotions, and are highly intelligent. These dog characteristics can significantly enhance
the lives of thousands of youth and adults, especially those with disabilities and/or those who live
in continuing care facilities. There are approximately 20,000 service dogs in the U.S., which
includes 10,000 guide dogs (American Humane Association 2012) Most of the therapy dogs come
from a selective breeding program known as the American Kennel Club (AKC). These dogs go
through several months of obedience training and must be able to strictly follow commands. These
dogs must also feel comfortable in the presence of wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, oxygen tanks, food
carts, and any other equipment patients and therapists use. A number of studies have demonstrated
that the presence of therapy dogs serve to increase the quantity and quality of positive attention
directed toward the physically handicapped by both familiar individuals and

8. Essay on sweatshops
Sweatshops
As companies grow larger and more competitive, they are looking for cheaper ways to produce
their wares and increase their profit. That is, after all, how companies are able to succeed, by
giving their customers a comparable product for a cheaper price. This increases sales and the overall
bottom line. Which seems to be a beneficial plan for both the companies and the consumers. That is,
as long as the consumers don't know how the product is being produced. The places that produce
these products for an extremely cheap cost are called "Sweatshops". A sweatshop is a small
manufacturing establishment in which employees work long hours under substandard conditions for
low wages. Sweatshops came about...show more content...
The wages and conditions of the work environment are good in relation to other opportunities the
citizens of these countries have. Not only do these people now have a job that feeds their families,
they are learning skills that may benefit them in the future. The companies may also argue that they
are not violating any laws that the country has enacted. Without the use of cheap labor in foreign
markets not only would the company and it's stockholders lose profits, but the products being
produced would be more expensive when entering the United States' market. This in turn would
adversely affect the American consumer.
Fortunately, companies can afford to pay workers higher wages. If this were not true they would
not have been able to become so successful with production in the United States. It is a shame that
any company would see themselves as being morally or ethically correct allowing it's employees to
work in a hazardous environment. Companies should want their employees to enjoy the place they
work in. This would increase satisfaction in the work place, which would in turn increase production
and decrease employee turnover.
We as investors and consumers should not only act in our own self–interest, but also in the interest
of the common good. Companies should invest their clients' money in companies that want to
eradicate sweatshops, to ensure that their products are made in compliance of labor
