Business Analysis : Retail And Social Class
Essay Assignment 3: Retail and Social Class For this essay, two retail stores were visited and
evaluated to determine which social class each store primarily targets, and how the concepts of
cultural capital and habitus are used to appeal to each of these specific segments. The two stores
visited for the purpose of this essay were the Walmart Supercenter in Bloomington, MN, and the
William Sonoma kitchenware retailer located in the Mall of America in Bloomington MN. The first
visit was to the Walmart Supercenter in Bloomington, MN. Based off of the observations made, it
appears that Walmart primarily targets the lower to working class Americans. There were several
observations made that led to this conclusion. The Walmart store was very large, filled with large
quantities of mass produced products with minimal design aesthetics. The interior design within the
store was very basic, utilizing primary colors, inexpensive vinyl tile flooring and harsh fluorescent
lighting throughout. The products themselves were displayed in large quantities, with minimal
attention given to the aesthetics or visual display of the products. One example of this was a large
bin of CD's placed in the center of a main aisle filled with hundreds of low priced CD's for sale.
There was also a tremendous emphasis on the retailer's low prices, mainly seen in the advertising
that took place within the store. Large, bold signs were placed throughout the store and in most
aisles advertising

Introduction In my chosen profession, it is my philosophy to "dance with the dog that brought you."
That's a marketing term, meaning; keep what has made you successful, thus far. Since the
establishment of my tax practice; I have provided efficient, quality tax services, within a reasonable
time frame. Once more, this service occurs in a safe, clean and friendly home environment that
promotes a very personal tax preparation experience for clients. This professional philosophy and
home–based work environment has served the needs of myself and clients, for many years. In
addition to my practice, as a tax professional; I chose to pursue a communication degree. I think it
goes without saying; that, in this profession, communication is the ... Show more content on

As a tax professional, I am dealing with other peoples' money (i.e. tax refund or tax liability), which
can lead to anxiety and fear. As an example, there are times when a taxpayers' tax situation is not
good. Surprisingly, to the client, he/she owes money to the IRS. When this happens, I am the first
person to provide an explanation. Rightfully so, they want to know why the refund has decreased,
or, money is owed. It is my job, to provide the taxpayer with an answer that makes sense. In the end,
I call upon what I have learned as a competent communicator, and: provide a detailed account of
what the problem is; as well as, a solution that prevents the issue from occurring again next year.
This level of commitment to providing competent service is why the majority of my clients are

Business Environments And The Workplace Before Entering...
I learned a lot of things this half year, although the most of them were negative. I found myself too
vulnerable to suit the business environments and the workplace before entering this class. I was not
brave to be the first one to express my opinions in front of others; I was weak at facing challenges,
and I always felt nervous and difficult to handle them; I could not focus on one thing too long
because I got distracted from a lot of temptation. The worst thing was: I hold my transcripts from
undergraduate school and felt like I was ready to go to workplace and I was very sure about my
believing; I did not recognized what my weakness were, and I always considered myself a good
worker. In realty I was not that good enough to be a moderate worker. It is necessary for an
accountant in today's public accounting companies to obtain different soft skills rather than only
calculate numbers, and also important for him or her to update their knowledge in time to
accommodate the clients' needs and fulfill their objectives. I would say that the most important
thing, rather than those negative sides of myself, is gaining a chance to get rid of my weakness in
both hard and soft skills and grow to be stronger in mentality. Before stepping into the business
world, I am studying on becoming a real businesswoman here in this class, and now I have changed
and grow.
For several times during the semester, I did review all my tasks and reflected on what I learned,
which was very helpful and

Situational Analysis
This report largely focuses on constructing a situational analysis of Qantas Airlines. An
organisations situational analysis refers to an analysis that consists of ascertaining the key factors
that will be used as a basis for development of marketing strategy. (Elliot 2014). Situational analysis
consists of the environment analysis (both internal and external environment), competitor's analysis
and finally the swot analysis.

 Maintain Qantas frequent flyer as a driver of loyalty across group and as a leading loyalty

4) Deliver on existing Jetstar opportunities and partnerships in Asia.
Market share
Market share is defined as companies sales as a percentage of total sales volume in a specific
industry, market or product area. In the local region, Qantas managed to outweigh its competitor by
gaining a toll of 65% compared to its competitor. Evidently this shows Qantas is the number one
preferred airlines compared to other competitor airlines like Virgin, Tiger Airways and Emirates
airlines. However the situation is not the same in South East Asian region as Qantas only managed
to obtain about 15% of market share compared to likes of Air Asia who leads the market share with
60% in this region. Conversely, this is not a concern for the airlines as the airlines managed to
generate revenue of 5 billion dollars, with a predicted passenger growth of 4.9% which is equivalent
to 2.9 billion passengers by 2034.
Service quality
Service quality is referred to a valuation of how good a delivered service meets the customer's
expectation. Upper management

Emnt 290 Week 2 Personal Reflection
Throughout the ENT 290 course this fall, I have been introduced to the amazing opportunities of
entrepreneurship. I was given an opportunity to earn a large amount of money to further develop the
idea of FASH, as well as constructive criticism from the panel of judges. I was not able to compete
for the final challenge to earn the prize money, which taught me the harsh realities of failure. In this
field, you are either first or last. My team had an elite idea, but our execution was not at the level it
needed to be in order to convince the first panel of judges that we should move on. This hurt my
group's moral and caused anger, but we were able to redirect our anger into motivation to do better.
Our group is now more motivated to make FASH ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I chose this major because I wanted to learn in a different, more creative way than I would have in
the other majors. I want to learn how to exploit my creativity and enhance my skills that will help
me in the business world. I have people telling me all of the time that I should have done finance or
another business major because it is a "real" major. After failing to make it to the next round in the
business challenge, I started to wonder if I should have taken the safer route and majored in finance.
I could have always created my own business later on with or without a degree in entrepreneurship.
I quickly got that thought out of my head and still believe that learning the creative ways to
accomplish tasks through entrepreneurship is more valuable than majoring in just one section of
business. The one thing that I know for certain about entrepreneurship is that I will have a normal
job after I get out of school so that I always have income coming in, but I will always be developing
new ideas on the side to accomplish my dream of owning my own business someday. After I learn
how someone does something, I always want to do it better on my own. This drives me and
solidified my faith in continuing with entrepreneurship. When I fail at something, I do not stop, I
reflect and learn, and then go harder until I succeed. I have learned this in sports and it applies
directly to entrepreneurship. I may have lost this competition, but I can guarantee that the next
business competition I am in, I will be better than I was in this class. I always want to get better at
whatever I do. When I get angry after failure, it drives me to succeed next time instead of dwelling
on the past. This class was high stakes and it helped me prepare for the real business world where
failure is a harsh possibility. Participation ribbons are no longer an option after school, and this class
reminded me of that

Service Management
Introduction
The service industry interacts with our lives on a daily basis. Services can be defined as deeds,
processes and performances. When considering the differences between products and services,
intangibility and the fact that a service cannot be touched, tasted, viewed or tried on are terms often
used (McColl–Kennedy & Kiel 2000). Services differ from goods in essentially four ways: (1)
intangibility; (2) inseparability; (3) heterogeneity; (4) perishability (Kotler, Brown, Adam, Burton,
Armstrong 2006). To deliver a quality service, managers also pay attention to the importance of
tangibles that support service delivery as well as service delivery blueprinting. Managers must also
accept that service failures occur and be able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gap between expected and perceived service is a measure of service quality. Fitzsimmons &
Fitzsimmons (2001) stated that measuring this gap through the customer feedback process is
standard practice for leading service companies.
The gaps model is one framework that can help the service organisation maintain service quality
(Zeithaml & Bitner 1996, cited McColl–Kennedy & Kiel 2000). The core concept of this model is
the fifth 'customer gap'. The key to success in the management of service quality is to eliminate the
customer gap. In order to do this the organisation must firstly eliminate four prior organisational
gaps; (1) not knowing what customers expect (2) Not selecting the right service designs and
standards (3) Not delivering to service standards (4) not matching service to promises made.
McColl–Kennedy & Kiel (2000) propose that if gaps one to four can be kept closed, then the fifth
gap, which is the customer gap, can be bridged.
The following case study has been used to explain how the gaps model can be applied. In the
context of the case study the passenger is considered a 'personalising' customer. The passenger
expected personalised customer service, recognition and satisfaction in the airline business class
service that was chosen. The passenger booked a return flight to Hong Kong on Qantas Airways
flying their new

Taking A Business Management Class
A solution to help decrease the bankruptcy in retired pro athletes is by making them take a business
management class. Steinberg thinks most pro athletes when drafted have a lack "of competent
financial planning advice" (Steinberg). This is a big deal when it comes to a pro athlete. Without
financial experience or knowledge, a pro athlete can be swindled into a deal when they do not know
everything that comes with that deal. Too many athletes "had not only failed to plan for the future,
but lacked a basic understanding of money management" (Callahan). Making athletes take a
business class would help inform athletes on how to handle their money. Another solution
companies can do is hire a financial advisor to every player. Assigning an ... Show more content on

Explaining to athletes the importance of financial knowledge is a solution that companies should
require.
Requiring the athlete to create a savings account and put some of their paycheck in there is another
solution. By doing this all league companies are creating a sense of stability. If a player gets injured
during the season, they will still have money to fall back on until they are able to make their next
paycheck. This also makes sure that the player cannot spend all of their paycheck once they get it.
Solin says, "Require the teams to withhold taxes and deposit 25 percent of the after–tax amount of
the total salary of every athlete into a designated trust account" (Solin). By doing this, it creates a
safety net for the players and the companies. Solin also says for that bank account a "direct trustee"
would be appointed (Solin). He is saying that someone other than the athlete would have control
over that account. The direct trustee would have power over the athlete with withdrawls the athlete
can make. With this method it also always the trustee to know what is being withdrawn from the
account or what is being deposited. Doing this makes it virtually impossible for an athlete to take
money out of that account without the company knowing. This would be a great way to reduce the
bankruptcy problem in pro athletes.
Another thing companies can do to reduce the amount of pro athletes that become bankrupt after
their career is by limiting how much they can withdraw.

Class Discussion Contributions A central part in developing your competencies will be active and
thoughtful contributions to the class discussion. Your contributions will be critical to your learning
and the learning of your classmates. EVERYONE is expected to participate in each class session. I
usually ask for volunteers, but I also cold call people throughout the class session. In evaluating
class contributions, I consider both quality and the frequency of contribution, but I weigh quality
more heavily. In assessing quality, I consider the following dimensions: Is the student taking risks?
Is the student creatively trying to experiment with strategic thinking and visioning? Does the
comment simply repeat facts from the case, or does it provide analysis that adds to our
understanding of the case and its broader implications? Does the comment fit well into the flow of
the discussion? Is it linked to the comments of others? Does the comment trigger others to enter the
analysis? Does the comment link the case material effectively to the material from the textbook?
Does the comment reflect creative thinking, perhaps by tying together multiple viewpoints or tying
back to material covered previously in the course? Is the comment presented in a clear, compelling
manner or is it confusing, repetitive or contradictory? Is the comment delivered in a respectful,

Summary Of The Age Of Unreason By Charles Handy
Business is what shapes and runs our daily lives. Starting a business can have major benefits to the
owner, although it is very challenging. Nine out of ten businesses fail due to poor management. The
likelihood of this failure can be prevented by following certain statements that were mentioned in
the excerpt, The Age of Unreason by Charles Handy. According to Charles Handy, to be successful
in a business, you must be idiosyncratic compared to everyone else. Handy's purpose of the book is
to give the reader a better view of change. His central argument is that humans have the unique
capacity to manage a business by interpreting what people have to say, being creative and having
"proper selfishness" while being conscious of other human beings. As stated in class, the future of
job placement is going to be taken by robots. There are many things robots can't do that we can, as
Handy stated, such as being creative and taking risks. Most importantly, we are the knowledge
workers and this is what matters in a business.
The key to having a successful business is being different than your competition. The central theme

liberal arts students because their way of thinking isn't "linear". Employers enjoy the fact that we are
well rounded students and not just focusing on one certain aspect. Personally, I would like to pursue
a career in business to obtain a secure job in the future. I may consider going to a business school in

In this high mobility era, plane became indispensable part of people life especially for those who

Garuda Indonesia and Batik Air (JPPN, 2015). There is argue in which one is the best full services

The fare of each airline is also counted as integrated part of the qualitative measurement to make it
more objective and accurate. According to Nurfitriyani (2016), for on–time performance which is
reflected by on–time of take off, Batik Air overcome Garuda Indonesia with 91.21 percent or 23,366
of 24,617 flights scheduled, while Garuda only 85.82 percent or 77,955 of 90,832 flights scheduled.
This is also given Batik Air award by Transportation Ministry as the most on–time airline in
Indonesia, while Garuda only in third place. Most of the delayed factor is the plane is not ready yet
when take off time comes. However, according to Nusaresearch (2013), Garuda Indonesia is the
most satisfaction and reliable airline for higher monthly expenditure passengers. Time by time, the
dominance of Garuda Indonesia still remain in some area but already overcame by Batik Air in other

WR90R: What I Learned In Business Class
This term is my first term at SWOCC. I had felt so nervous many times for first two months, and it
took a lot of time to be used to school life. At first, it was difficult to make native friends, not
international students. Because, I didn't have a connection with them. Then, they usually came to
classes on time. Moreover, I didn't know what and how I say to make conversations as I cared to
make mistake grammar and pronunciation. So, I couldn't often talk in classes too. A lot of
assignments also made me nervous. In business class, I had to take the quiz every week. In WR90R,
I had to write a paragraph about different types of the subject almost every day in three and four
weeks. Even though I turned in every assignment, those were returned with low scores. I couldn't

For example, the taboo game was quite difficult for me. Because, the words I knew were limited as
the words I must not use regardless I don't have wide vocabulary and many similar words and
synonym words. After the game, I recognized I often used same terms in a paper so that I became to
pay attention about it. However, I found it is more important and easier to explain with five feelings
and specific words like color, shape, or layout. That makes readers or listeners easy to understand.
The best thing I was impressed is the activity to make funny story students accumulated one
sentence one by one. When I wrote first sentence, I couldn't expect how the story was kept going.
Each student used different kinds of transactional words, and they made a creative story. It was very
interesting to make the conclusion because the story I began writing was going to a different
direction. This activity helped me to have different sights. I didn't read or think what I wrote on top
and wanted to tell. Yet, I noticed I need a couple of days or breaks to write better whenever I write

Personal Statement 1: Business Analysis
I found the Business 101 class to be extremely informative. For me, the areas studied filled in
several gaps. I learned in more detail about how businesses are formed, the U.S. economic system,
the intricacies of the global market and marketing. I have run a business for multiple years, and
although much of what we studied in class happens on a daily basis, there were definitely areas on
which I needed to get a better handle on. Entrepreneurship and financial management are two areas
that I will academically explore further, along with, professionally as further study in these two
areas will bring me the added knowledge to run my business.
Currently, I am enrolled in Management 220, further pursuing entrepreneurship. My husband's and

After that, I intend to move on to my Masters of Business Administration! This time, when I decided

The Business Skills Development Program
During the last six months of the Business Skills Development Program, the Institute completed its
75 hour–long entrepreneurial curriculum in fifteen Saturday sessions. Twenty–three students
registered for the Entrepreneurship Fundamentals course, and ten successfully graduated from the
course.
Instructional services such as class lectures, guest speaker presentations, and supervised writing
assistance all contributed to their completion of a business plan. On the other hand, absences and
withdrawals were experienced after the 3rd and 4th day of the class schedule. However, it should be
noted that such issues with class attendance and withdrawals are common in an adult educational
setting, and are in line with what we have observed with our adult educational program.
In spite of absences experienced during the course schedule, these course graduates did a great job
catching up with class lessons missed, and were proactive in the writing assistance component of the
class; thus, their efforts to continue and completing the course also allowed for each graduate
receiving a certificate of completion and small ceremony acknowledging their accomplishments.
However, it should be noted that the Institute's Entrepreneurship Fundamentals course began in
spring and ran through the summer. As a result, this schedule duration became an inconvenience for
some students but most importantly it contributed to our low class retention. Although students of

Personal Reflection Paper
1. Going into Sauder For someone currently studying at the Sauder School of Business, I am amazed
that I got into this school. I have never taken a business course in my life (asides from learning a
little about marketing during my yearbook course and from watching television), and my high
school curriculum was centered on the sciences. All I knew was accounting since both my parents
are accountants; I was also aware of how prospective accountants needed to obtain their Certified
Public Accountant (CPA) certification and the existence of the "Big 4" accounting firms. Thus, I was
fairly narrow–minded and just hoped to get my bachelor's degree with a specialization in
accounting.
2. Changes in the Operation I think my biggest change had to come from the operations class with
Greg Werker. Even through COMM 290, he has definitely influenced which path I am considering
specializing in. Part of it has to do with Greg's expertise and the wide range of companies that he
has worked for; for instance, L'Oreal. I thought even more about supply chain management and
operations during the alumni class when Mike Tung was talking about his own experiences. From
the readings for that class, I also discovered Sauder's specialization of Global Supply Chain
Management, which spoke to me because it allowed for exchange to two different continents –
something I always wanted to do in university. Furthermore, I found the fact that inventory is a good
metric for determining how well a company is

FINC 210 Reflection Essay
Finance 210 has been a blessing to me in many ways. I can remember back to the very first class
that I had missed because I was mistaken on the time of the class as I sat in the other hallway of
Wehner. This class is something that has opened my eyes, not to a career in finance, but to an
understanding that I have so much more to learn about business and myself as a whole before I am
ready to make a decision as to what I would like to call a career. When I came into Mays Business
School just a few short months ago I had no earthly idea of what I want to pursue. I sat at NSC, saw

Dr. Callis stressed the importance of giving our guests the fullest of our attention because each and
every speaker brought an opportunity to learn from those who have been successful and have been
in the same situations we find ourselves in now. What made Dr. Callis an excellent professor was
not only his desire to see us succeed, but the fact that he pointed out that we needed to remain aware
of the people we were. I've always had a strong desire to give back to people. I've helped the
homeless, built shelters for animals, worked at food banks, and various other tasks for most of my
last four years. As a businessman I would love to work for a non–profit organization or perhaps even
start my own, and Dr. Callis has really stuck a chord with some of his lectures. One day we came
into class and Dr. Callis addressed us about racism, and sexism, and how we should never let these
things go without speaking up. We should never allow women to be taken advantage of, we should
never let others oppress others, we should always recognize that we are all human beings, and that is

Csi Class Attendance Business Plan
Action Plan to Improve CSI Entrance Criteria
Rationale:
It would be ideal if CSI would be reserved for those students that are really at risk as far as
assistance with basic skills. It is apparent that the CSI program has been employing an entrance
criteria that is too loose. Although the obvious remedy would be to make clear, strict entrance score
criteria for CSI students, there are multiple factors that make this challenging. Legally, if a student is
offered special services, and the parents refuse, we must offer that child the next level of service.
For example, if a parent refuses the offering of resource room, the child may then be placed in CSI,
thus compounding the challenge of teaching many students with a very wide range of ability levels.

Scheduling Changes for 2015–2016
Instead of only offering CSI instruction before school, we will now have classes scheduled both
before school, and during school hours. Students will be scheduled based on who is able to arrive on
time for the morning class (this should be determined by speaking with parents, and through past
attendance records). Students who have a poor attendance record, or whose parents express that
getting to school early is challenging, will only be scheduled for CSI during the school day so that
they benefit from CSI instruction time as much as possible.
In order to better meet the needs of the current CSI student population, we are going to divide
students into Tiers, and provide different levels of support for each Tier. This will allow for smaller
class sizes, and classes where student ability levels are more matched. **See attachment for

Participating in international business can be very risky and lucrative all at the same time. It is
important to know the key factors and controllers when doing business on foreign territory. There
are many things to consider when you look at day to day operations and cultural differences, but
more so what you do in the event of a national state of emergency. There are always political issues,

There is however some things that out of courtesy and respect most countries try to adhere to within
reason. "The principle of Comity states that a nation will defer and give effect to the laws and
judicial decrees of another nation as long as those laws and decrees are consistent with the law and
public policies of the accommodating nation." Then you have The Act of State Doctrine and The
Doctrine of Sovereign Immunity, which simply says, "that they tend to immunize foreign nations
from the jurisdiction of U.S. courts so that in general, U.S. firms or individuals who own property
overseas have little U.S. legal protection against government actions in the countries in which they
operate. The Act of state of Doctrine doesn't examine the validity of public acts committed by
foreign government within its own territory. The Doctrine of Sovereign Immunity makes states
waive their immunity." So as you see there is no real guarantee or protection that is guaranteed, it is
all on the word of their government. (USLegal, 2010)

General Motors manufacturing operations are lean and flexible. First, Lordstown is a lean

We also are dedicated to producing quality in–process and not allowing defective parts to continue

Secondly, General Motors is a flexible manufacturing operation, because of its ability to utilize

Designing A Business Strategy For Business
Customizing Complex Buying Processes
Buyers with house accounts are easier to shepherd through complex buying processes such as
purchase–order systems, gaining multiple approvals for business buys, authorizing multiple account
users and developing long–term relationships and business partnerships. Many B2B companies are
moving toward using their platforms as marketplaces for multiple vendors, manufacturers and B2B
sales companies. Offering house credit is a good first step for positioning a B2B company at the top
of the chain for this forward–thinking business strategy. When companies share financial interests,.
it 's easier to work together from shared marketing platforms.
3. Fulfillment Convenience Applications
Customers enjoy faster processing of their orders when they 've been qualified for an account
because no immediate payment arrangements are necessary. B2B companies have all the
information they need to ship immediately, and customers with accounts generally provide more
complete information about their companies, buying habits and financial strengths so that
eCommerce platforms can segregate them with the high degrees of accuracy. When salespeople
know a company 's limits, they can better target their sales efforts.
Gartner predicts that personalization on B2B ecommerce sites will enable companies to outsell their
competitors by 30 percent by 2018, and offering customers purchasing accounts delivers the kind of

Business Class C Should Not Continue
5.
a) Business class C should not continue to be underwritten using the figures shown. This is because
the class has resulted in a £25 million loss for the underwriting company.
Total premium expenditure LOSS
£125,000,000 – £150,000,000 = – £25,000,000 (shown in brackets on the account sheet as it's a loss)
b)
To make an in depth analysis as to whether class C of business should continue to be written might
require a look at the class over a number of years. The figures shown could be or a year that is
unrepresentative in a wider time spread, as other years before this could show the class C to be a
profitable class to write. Furthermore the value of losses and frequency of losses would show
whether it was one very infrequent event that has cause a large loss that has led to the line not being
profitable in the figures shown. However, if it was lots of smaller claims, this might show class C
business could be written profitably, if the premium was representative of the risk insurer JEL is
exposing itself to. There is simply not enough information available to show the circumstances that
have led to an overall loss of £25 million for class C business. Moreover, class C may be offered at a
reduced premium rate if an insured purchases class A or B. this therefore may not be a profitable
line to write on its own, but if it brings the profitable business in as clients place multiple insurance

Transatlantic Airlines report Essay
Executive summary
We have analyzed the existing booking policy of TransAtlantic Airlines and identified potential cost
saving.
The implementation of the suggested new booking policy would lead to reduction of total expected
costs per flight on average by £8,100.
Furthermore, the new policy would increase the predictability of total costs per flight. With 90%
confidence new costs will be in a range £750 and £4,800 as compared to the current range of £1,900
to £20,300. The comparative description of the policies is presented in table 1.

Quick look at the summary table helps us identify that the proposed quick fix is the least value
destructing policy out of three policies. It has the lowest mean of total costs, the lowest probability
of exceeding £10,000 as well as the narrowest range of the cost.
To be more assured, we have additionally conducted probability dominance analysis (figure 2),
which tells that both current and quick fix policy have deterministic dominance (always better) then
no overbooking policy (green line). Whereas the quick fix (blue line) has stochastic dominance over
currently employed policy (red line). The outcome of current policy maybe occasionally better than
our proposed solution, but in the majority of cases the quick fix policy will be better.

take away from this class is the ability to understand what it takes to be a business leader and be able
to do the job if the opportunity ever presented itself. The third thing I would like to understand is the
different ethics people follow in each countries. Also how different countries work together when
their ethics differentiate so much. The

  • 3. Business Analysis : Retail And Social Class Essay Assignment 3: Retail and Social Class For this essay, two retail stores were visited and evaluated to determine which social class each store primarily targets, and how the concepts of cultural capital and habitus are used to appeal to each of these specific segments. The two stores visited for the purpose of this essay were the Walmart Supercenter in Bloomington, MN, and the William Sonoma kitchenware retailer located in the Mall of America in Bloomington MN. The first visit was to the Walmart Supercenter in Bloomington, MN. Based off of the observations made, it appears that Walmart primarily targets the lower to working class Americans. There were several observations made that led to this conclusion. The Walmart store was very large, filled with large quantities of mass produced products with minimal design aesthetics. The interior design within the store was very basic, utilizing primary colors, inexpensive vinyl tile flooring and harsh fluorescent lighting throughout. The products themselves were displayed in large quantities, with minimal attention given to the aesthetics or visual display of the products. One example of this was a large bin of CD's placed in the center of a main aisle filled with hundreds of low priced CD's for sale. There was also a tremendous emphasis on the retailer's low prices, mainly seen in the advertising that took place within the store. Large, bold signs were placed throughout the store and in most aisles advertising ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Business Ethics 101 Class Introduction In my chosen profession, it is my philosophy to "dance with the dog that brought you." That's a marketing term, meaning; keep what has made you successful, thus far. Since the establishment of my tax practice; I have provided efficient, quality tax services, within a reasonable time frame. Once more, this service occurs in a safe, clean and friendly home environment that promotes a very personal tax preparation experience for clients. This professional philosophy and home–based work environment has served the needs of myself and clients, for many years. In addition to my practice, as a tax professional; I chose to pursue a communication degree. I think it goes without saying; that, in this profession, communication is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a tax professional, I am dealing with other peoples' money (i.e. tax refund or tax liability), which can lead to anxiety and fear. As an example, there are times when a taxpayers' tax situation is not good. Surprisingly, to the client, he/she owes money to the IRS. When this happens, I am the first person to provide an explanation. Rightfully so, they want to know why the refund has decreased, or, money is owed. It is my job, to provide the taxpayer with an answer that makes sense. In the end, I call upon what I have learned as a competent communicator, and: provide a detailed account of what the problem is; as well as, a solution that prevents the issue from occurring again next year. • 7. Business Environments And The Workplace Before Entering... I learned a lot of things this half year, although the most of them were negative. I found myself too vulnerable to suit the business environments and the workplace before entering this class. I was not brave to be the first one to express my opinions in front of others; I was weak at facing challenges, and I always felt nervous and difficult to handle them; I could not focus on one thing too long because I got distracted from a lot of temptation. The worst thing was: I hold my transcripts from undergraduate school and felt like I was ready to go to workplace and I was very sure about my believing; I did not recognized what my weakness were, and I always considered myself a good worker. In realty I was not that good enough to be a moderate worker. It is necessary for an accountant in today's public accounting companies to obtain different soft skills rather than only calculate numbers, and also important for him or her to update their knowledge in time to accommodate the clients' needs and fulfill their objectives. I would say that the most important thing, rather than those negative sides of myself, is gaining a chance to get rid of my weakness in both hard and soft skills and grow to be stronger in mentality. Before stepping into the business world, I am studying on becoming a real businesswoman here in this class, and now I have changed and grow. For several times during the semester, I did review all my tasks and reflected on what I learned, which was very helpful and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the local region, Qantas managed to outweigh its competitor by gaining a toll of 65% compared to its competitor. Evidently this shows Qantas is the number one preferred airlines compared to other competitor airlines like Virgin, Tiger Airways and Emirates airlines. However the situation is not the same in South East Asian region as Qantas only managed to obtain about 15% of market share compared to likes of Air Asia who leads the market share with 60% in this region. Conversely, this is not a concern for the airlines as the airlines managed to generate revenue of 5 billion dollars, with a predicted passenger growth of 4.9% which is equivalent to 2.9 billion passengers by 2034. • 16. Emnt 290 Week 2 Personal Reflection Throughout the ENT 290 course this fall, I have been introduced to the amazing opportunities of entrepreneurship. I was given an opportunity to earn a large amount of money to further develop the idea of FASH, as well as constructive criticism from the panel of judges. I was not able to compete for the final challenge to earn the prize money, which taught me the harsh realities of failure. In this field, you are either first or last. My team had an elite idea, but our execution was not at the level it needed to be in order to convince the first panel of judges that we should move on. This hurt my group's moral and caused anger, but we were able to redirect our anger into motivation to do better. Our group is now more motivated to make FASH ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I chose this major because I wanted to learn in a different, more creative way than I would have in the other majors. I want to learn how to exploit my creativity and enhance my skills that will help me in the business world. I have people telling me all of the time that I should have done finance or another business major because it is a "real" major. After failing to make it to the next round in the business challenge, I started to wonder if I should have taken the safer route and majored in finance. I could have always created my own business later on with or without a degree in entrepreneurship. I quickly got that thought out of my head and still believe that learning the creative ways to accomplish tasks through entrepreneurship is more valuable than majoring in just one section of business. The one thing that I know for certain about entrepreneurship is that I will have a normal job after I get out of school so that I always have income coming in, but I will always be developing new ideas on the side to accomplish my dream of owning my own business someday. After I learn how someone does something, I always want to do it better on my own. This drives me and solidified my faith in continuing with entrepreneurship. When I fail at something, I do not stop, I reflect and learn, and then go harder until I succeed. I have learned this in sports and it applies directly to entrepreneurship. I may have lost this competition, but I can guarantee that the next business competition I am in, I will be better than I was in this class. I always want to get better at whatever I do. When I get angry after failure, it drives me to succeed next time instead of dwelling on the past. This class was high stakes and it helped me prepare for the real business world where failure is a harsh possibility. • 18. Service Management Introduction The service industry interacts with our lives on a daily basis. Services can be defined as deeds, processes and performances. When considering the differences between products and services, intangibility and the fact that a service cannot be touched, tasted, viewed or tried on are terms often used (McColl–Kennedy & Kiel 2000). Services differ from goods in essentially four ways: (1) intangibility; (2) inseparability; (3) heterogeneity; (4) perishability (Kotler, Brown, Adam, Burton, Armstrong 2006). To deliver a quality service, managers also pay attention to the importance of tangibles that support service delivery as well as service delivery blueprinting. Managers must also accept that service failures occur and be able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The gap between expected and perceived service is a measure of service quality. Fitzsimmons & Fitzsimmons (2001) stated that measuring this gap through the customer feedback process is standard practice for leading service companies. The gaps model is one framework that can help the service organisation maintain service quality (Zeithaml & Bitner 1996, cited McColl–Kennedy & Kiel 2000). The core concept of this model is the fifth 'customer gap'. The key to success in the management of service quality is to eliminate the customer gap. In order to do this the organisation must firstly eliminate four prior organisational gaps; (1) not knowing what customers expect (2) Not selecting the right service designs and standards (3) Not delivering to service standards (4) not matching service to promises made. McColl–Kennedy & Kiel (2000) propose that if gaps one to four can be kept closed, then the fifth gap, which is the customer gap, can be bridged. The following case study has been used to explain how the gaps model can be applied. In the context of the case study the passenger is considered a 'personalising' customer. The passenger expected personalised customer service, recognition and satisfaction in the airline business class service that was chosen. The passenger booked a return flight to Hong Kong on Qantas Airways flying their new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Taking A Business Management Class A solution to help decrease the bankruptcy in retired pro athletes is by making them take a business management class. Steinberg thinks most pro athletes when drafted have a lack "of competent financial planning advice" (Steinberg). This is a big deal when it comes to a pro athlete. Without financial experience or knowledge, a pro athlete can be swindled into a deal when they do not know everything that comes with that deal. Too many athletes "had not only failed to plan for the future, but lacked a basic understanding of money management" (Callahan). Making athletes take a business class would help inform athletes on how to handle their money. Another solution companies can do is hire a financial advisor to every player. Assigning an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Explaining to athletes the importance of financial knowledge is a solution that companies should require. Requiring the athlete to create a savings account and put some of their paycheck in there is another solution. By doing this all league companies are creating a sense of stability. If a player gets injured during the season, they will still have money to fall back on until they are able to make their next paycheck. This also makes sure that the player cannot spend all of their paycheck once they get it. Solin says, "Require the teams to withhold taxes and deposit 25 percent of the after–tax amount of the total salary of every athlete into a designated trust account" (Solin). By doing this, it creates a safety net for the players and the companies. Solin also says for that bank account a "direct trustee" would be appointed (Solin). He is saying that someone other than the athlete would have control over that account. The direct trustee would have power over the athlete with withdrawls the athlete can make. With this method it also always the trustee to know what is being withdrawn from the account or what is being deposited. Doing this makes it virtually impossible for an athlete to take money out of that account without the company knowing. This would be a great way to reduce the bankruptcy problem in pro athletes. Another thing companies can do to reduce the amount of pro athletes that become bankrupt after their career is by limiting how much they can withdraw. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In evaluating class contributions, I consider both quality and the frequency of contribution, but I weigh quality more heavily. In assessing quality, I consider the following dimensions: Is the student taking risks? Is the student creatively trying to experiment with strategic thinking and visioning? Does the comment simply repeat facts from the case, or does it provide analysis that adds to our understanding of the case and its broader implications? Does the comment fit well into the flow of the discussion? Is it linked to the comments of others? Does the comment trigger others to enter the analysis? Does the comment link the case material effectively to the material from the textbook? Does the comment reflect creative thinking, perhaps by tying together multiple viewpoints or tying back to material covered previously in the course? • 24. Summary Of The Age Of Unreason By Charles Handy Business is what shapes and runs our daily lives. Starting a business can have major benefits to the owner, although it is very challenging. Nine out of ten businesses fail due to poor management. The likelihood of this failure can be prevented by following certain statements that were mentioned in the excerpt, The Age of Unreason by Charles Handy. According to Charles Handy, to be successful in a business, you must be idiosyncratic compared to everyone else. Handy's purpose of the book is to give the reader a better view of change. His central argument is that humans have the unique capacity to manage a business by interpreting what people have to say, being creative and having "proper selfishness" while being conscious of other human beings. As stated in class, the future of job placement is going to be taken by robots. There are many things robots can't do that we can, as Handy stated, such as being creative and taking risks. Most importantly, we are the knowledge workers and this is what matters in a business. The key to having a successful business is being different than your competition. The Business Skills Development Program During the last six months of the Business Skills Development Program, the Institute completed its 75 hour–long entrepreneurial curriculum in fifteen Saturday sessions. Twenty–three students registered for the Entrepreneurship Fundamentals course, and ten successfully graduated from the course. Instructional services such as class lectures, guest speaker presentations, and supervised writing assistance all contributed to their completion of a business plan. On the other hand, absences and withdrawals were experienced after the 3rd and 4th day of the class schedule. However, it should be noted that such issues with class attendance and withdrawals are common in an adult educational setting, and are in line with what we have observed with our adult educational program. In spite of absences experienced during the course schedule, these course graduates did a great job catching up with class lessons missed, and were proactive in the writing assistance component of the class; thus, their efforts to continue and completing the course also allowed for each graduate receiving a certificate of completion and small ceremony acknowledging their accomplishments. I have never taken a business course in my life (asides from learning a little about marketing during my yearbook course and from watching television), and my high school curriculum was centered on the sciences. All I knew was accounting since both my parents are accountants; I was also aware of how prospective accountants needed to obtain their Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification and the existence of the "Big 4" accounting firms. Thus, I was fairly narrow–minded and just hoped to get my bachelor's degree with a specialization in accounting. 2. Changes in the Operation I think my biggest change had to come from the operations class with Greg Werker. Even through COMM 290, he has definitely influenced which path I am considering specializing in. Part of it has to do with Greg's expertise and the wide range of companies that he has worked for; for instance, L'Oreal. I thought even more about supply chain management and operations during the alumni class when Mike Tung was talking about his own experiences. From the readings for that class, I also discovered Sauder's specialization of Global Supply Chain Management, which spoke to me because it allowed for exchange to two different continents – something I always wanted to do in university. What do you do when you are faced with a state of emergency, do you continue to stand your ground, leave and only choose to reappear when things have settled, or simply stop operations all together. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is however some things that out of courtesy and respect most countries try to adhere to within reason. "The principle of Comity states that a nation will defer and give effect to the laws and judicial decrees of another nation as long as those laws and decrees are consistent with the law and public policies of the accommodating nation." Then you have The Act of State Doctrine and The Doctrine of Sovereign Immunity, which simply says, "that they tend to immunize foreign nations from the jurisdiction of U.S. courts so that in general, U.S. firms or individuals who own property overseas have little U.S. legal protection against government actions in the countries in which they operate. The Act of state of Doctrine doesn't examine the validity of public acts committed by foreign government within its own territory. The Doctrine of Sovereign Immunity makes states waive their immunity." So as you see there is no real guarantee or protection that is guaranteed, it is all on the word of their government. (USLegal, 2010) It is my professional and personal opinion that I would question continuing business in the country of Egypt. In case you weren't aware of how bad it has gotten for the citizens who inhabit this place let me paint a picture. The government has been in a state of powerlessness against the vigilantes who are rowdy and angry citizens who are carrying blades, and weapons from guns to baseball bats, and pipes. The women are being raped and after only a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Secondly, General Motors is a flexible manufacturing operation, because of its ability to utilize human assemblers, who are very flexible, adapt easily and have fewer costly breakdowns. • 71. Business Class C Should Not Continue 5. a) Business class C should not continue to be underwritten using the figures shown. This is because the class has resulted in a £25 million loss for the underwriting company. Total premium expenditure LOSS £125,000,000 – £150,000,000 = – £25,000,000 (shown in brackets on the account sheet as it's a loss) b) To make an in depth analysis as to whether class C of business should continue to be written might require a look at the class over a number of years. The figures shown could be or a year that is unrepresentative in a wider time spread, as other years before this could show the class C to be a profitable class to write. Furthermore the value of losses and frequency of losses would show whether it was one very infrequent event that has cause a large loss that has led to the line not being profitable in the figures shown. However, if it was lots of smaller claims, this might show class C business could be written profitably, if the premium was representative of the risk insurer JEL is exposing itself to. There is simply not enough information available to show the circumstances that have led to an overall loss of £25 million for class C business. Moreover, class C may be offered at a reduced premium rate if an insured purchases class A or B. this therefore may not be a profitable line to write on its own, but if it brings the profitable business in as clients place multiple insurance policies with the same insurer, and it's a sales method, class C ... • 73. Transatlantic Airlines report Essay Executive summary We have analyzed the existing booking policy of TransAtlantic Airlines and identified potential cost saving. The implementation of the suggested new booking policy would lead to reduction of total expected costs per flight on average by £8,100. Furthermore, the new policy would increase the predictability of total costs per flight. With 90% confidence new costs will be in a range £750 and £4,800 as compared to the current range of £1,900 to £20,300. The comparative description of the policies is presented in table 1. Analysis of existing policy quick fix Base case model The foundation of current policy is based on the analysis in table 1. We observe that the total costs for both classes are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quick look at the summary table helps us identify that the proposed quick fix is the least value destructing policy out of three policies. It has the lowest mean of total costs, the lowest probability of exceeding £10,000 as well as the narrowest range of the cost. To be more assured, we have additionally conducted probability dominance analysis (figure 2), which tells that both current and quick fix policy have deterministic dominance (always better) then no overbooking policy (green line). Whereas the quick fix (blue line) has stochastic dominance over currently employed policy (red line). The outcome of current policy maybe occasionally better than our proposed solution, but in the majority of cases the quick fix policy will be better. Figure 2 Probability dominance analysis Policy optimization In order to identify the optimal booking policy we have conducted simulation with 40 different booking levels for business and economy. As these two variables are independent, we have conducted consequential analysis. Results for business class level booking are in (figure 3). The

I feel like If I don't understand the terminology then I wouldn't be able to understand things that happen in the business world. I would have to stop and check what the words mean before continuing my reading or writing.
