Executive Summary
This full reverse costing study has been conducted to provide insight on technology data, manufacturing cost and selling price of the
InnoLight’s 400G QSFP-DD Optical Transceiver.
• The InnoLight's 400G QSFP-DD is on of the first 400G optical transceiver on the market and it allows to communicate up to 2km in
PSM4. The InnoLight solution is based on the INPHI chipset, the IN010C50 PAM4 DSP, the four GaAs laser driver dies, and a TIA die,
all designed by INPHI.
• The transceivers came with two separated line with several dies. The transmitter integrated four InP lasers drived by four GaAs dies.
Other components are added to the system in order to focus or isolate the signals. The data are processed using a PAM4 DSP from
INPHI. The lasers are an electro-absorption modulated DFB laser in InP. The connector assembly is complex. For the four emission
fibers, a laser, a lens, an isolator and the fiber are aligned. The lasers are cooled thank to a peltier cooler.
• The receiver function is performed by four InP photodiodes die and a TransImpedance Amplifier (TIA) circuit. A fiber optical coupler
and focusing lenses are used to connect the photodiode die with the fiber optic.
• This report is an exhaustive analysis of the InnoLight 400G QSFP-DD optical transceiver, including a full analysis of the laser die,
photodiode die, the TIA circuit, GaAs laser driver circuit, the PAM4 DSP circuit along with a cost analysis and price estimate. A
complete physical analysis with SEM pictures, cross-sections, EDX analysis to identify the material has been performed to shown all
the technical characteristics of the main component of the optical transceiver. The other parts, electronic, optic and housing are
equally estimated. More details on the optical parts and the assembly are described in the report. The cost estimation of assembly
of the electronic and the optic are performed in the report.

The InnoLight solution is based on the INPHI chipset, the IN010C50 PAM4 DSP, the four GaAs laser driver dies, and a TIA die, all designed by INPHI. • The transceivers came with two separated line with several dies. The transmitter integrated four InP lasers drived by four GaAs dies. Other components are added to the system in order to focus or isolate the signals. The data are processed using a PAM4 DSP from INPHI. The lasers are an electro-absorption modulated DFB laser in InP. The connector assembly is complex. For the four emission fibers, a laser, a lens, an isolator and the fiber are aligned. The lasers are cooled thank to a peltier cooler. • The receiver function is performed by four InP photodiodes die and a TransImpedance Amplifier (TIA) circuit. A fiber optical coupler and focusing lenses are used to connect the photodiode die with the fiber optic. • This report is an exhaustive analysis of the InnoLight 400G QSFP-DD optical transceiver, including a full analysis of the laser die, photodiode die, the TIA circuit, GaAs laser driver circuit, the PAM4 DSP circuit along with a cost analysis and price estimate. A complete physical analysis with SEM pictures, cross-sections, EDX analysis to identify the material has been performed to shown all the technical characteristics of the main component of the optical transceiver. The other parts, electronic, optic and housing are equally estimated. More details on the optical parts and the assembly are described in the report. The cost estimation of assembly of the electronic and the optic are performed in the report.
