Shared Leadership Papers
Shared Leadership Leadership has been studied a countless amount of times, but there is not one leadership style that is proven to be the best for an
organization. The complexity of today's business environment makes leadership increasingly more challenging. There have been continuous arguments
about how it is becoming more difficult for any single individual to possess all of the skills and abilities required to competently lead an organization
today (Kocolowski, 2010). Therefore, I believe having a leadership team of varying personality types or leadership styles, to such extent, is an effective
way to manage the diversity in the workplace and the continuous changes in the world of work. Shared leadership can be defined as a dynamic

I have had numerous jobs in my past, and have been exposed to very efficient management or leadership teams, and ones that have been significantly
weaker and were evident in the work environment and employee attitudes. My reflection piece is outside of the typical work environment and is going
to be based on my experiences attending University on a hockey scholarship; and my positive experiences with shared leadership. Although a hockey
team may seem like an informal example of a successful shared leadership experience, the strategies executed by the leadership roles on the hockey
team could be very easily transported into my future careers. The hierarchy of this specific example was the Head Coach of the hockey team, a Captain
and three Assistant Captains; one being myself. To paint a picture, a typical workweek as a student athlete consisted of early morning one hour on ice
skate, a full day of classes, an hour off–ice workout session, and an evening two–hour on ice skate. It was a very big commitment to balance the
schedule of full time school and a full time job being an athlete as well. We were held to a different expectation than some of our surrounding students.
The coaching staff, through weekly grade reports, closely monitored our GPA, and we were expected to maintain a higher minimum average than what
the school specifies in order to compete

Shared Stories
Shared stories between the three religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are definitely a form of theological debate because each religion has very
different interpretations of the stories. All three religions are similar in the sense that they believe in the same God, the God of Abraham. The
differences in their belief begins with their relationship with God and the nature of God. Christians believe in the trinity, God has three natures, Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit. The Jewish believe there is only one God and he is the creator of everything. Muslims, like Jewish, believe God is only one but
they rely heavily on prophets. Shared stories that form theological debate are, the story of Sarah and Hagar and the story of Mary and the birth ... Show

Each religion breaks down the stories differently which eventually lead to different interpretations. In the preview of chapters 4–6 by Gregg, he
explains how the Jewish wanted to find the missing pieces of the story, so they often added parts, while the Muslims did the opposite and ignored many
parts of the story. He also explains that Christians wanted to find the deeper meaning of the story and how the covenant made with Abraham, is
prominent in this story. Christians and Jews focus more on Abraham, Sarah, and Isaac, they see Hagar and Ishmael as much lesser than the other three.
The Jewish interpretation often explains Sarah as righteous and strong willed for example she tells Abraham to do something and he does it, her
complaints to Abraham were considered valid, and her infertility issues were justified by the rabbis. They would say, "Notable women were sometimes
barren" (130). But Hagar is seen as worthless and weak. She does not stand up for herself, she is seen as giving up when her child is about to die, she is
continuously identified in the text as not equal to Sarah. Christians have a similar view, they see Sarah as the mother of all free people and she
represents Christians, while Hagar is the mother of all slaves and she represents Judaism. Christians seem to have a harsh attitude towards Judaism and
their practice of circumcision which all represents Hagar in this story. Muslims do not mention Sarah or Hagar directly but they have more respect for
Hagar and Ishmael. Hagar is not banished into the wilderness in the Muslim story like in the Christian and Jewish story, instead she is sent on a
pilgrimage to Mecca. Also, Hagar is not seen as weak in Muslim's interpretation she is seen as overcoming God's

Compare and Contrast Buchanan and Monderman’s Approaches...
Compare and contrast Buchanan and Monderman's approaches to the production of social order in public spaces.
Public spaces are places which we have to share with others and where apply shared sets of values or expectations about how people should behave.
Social order is very important in social life. Order is part of the way people practice their social existence. It is about how individuals fit together with
others and with things around them. Ordering is all the time practised by people and is central to social life. Social order is not easy to make, it involves
a lot of things like practices, making everything and everyone fit together and also having in mind ideas about the past and the future (Silva, 2009).
Social order needs to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose was to design towns in a way that there could be an access for a lot of motor vehicles and at the same time sufficient level of life in towns
(Silva, 2009). In this report Buchanan's idea was to keep separate 'working, shopping and leisure form the 'corridors' where the traffic would move' (as
cited in Silva, 2009). At this point there was a choice between not allowing any more cars in towns and just reconstructing them. After the mid–1960s,
in towns started a separation of people from the vehicles. Sometimes it was very strict, when people where pushed away in residential blocks (Silva,
2009). In Buchanan's Report traffic has a dynamic role in shaping the way places are designed, the way people live and interact with each other and
also with surroundings. He looks at the traffic as something dangerous and because of that it needs to be separated and restricted by rules forced
through visible displays in space. His report was accepted by public. Later government commissioned work and its way of road planning has influenced
almost half a century of road design in England. There was a privilege for motor vehicles and pedestrians with cyclist were marginalised (Silva, 2009).
After years of separating pedestrians from traffic, Monderman's suggested the 'shared space' philosophy, which was concentrated on different
approaches to the public spaces and highways from Buchanan Report. The aim of Monderman's thesis was to

The Characteristics Of Shared Knowledge
Shared knowledge is commonly regarded as the information or knowledge that the majority already knows despite a few people may not know about it.
Any knowledge that can be classified as shared knowledge can be connected from one person to another especially during a discussion or communicate
each other. Collective learning also might trigger a shared knowledge to be spread among our society. Shared knowledge is a collection of personal
knowledge that can be gained from peoples' past experience. It will affect the personal knowledge of people who does not have that experience. When
they are in the same situation, other peoples' past experience might be helpful in order to make any assumptions or perceptions. Meanwhile, personal
knowledge is similar to the words "I know" which is knowledge that a person has that is basically gained from their own experience. This knowledge
also can be gained through observation. What do we know about ourselves? Sometimes, our behavior would be our first knowledge because in this
sense we will repeat it often in our daily routine. For example, you like to eat chocolate and one day you felt really stressed, you ate ... Show more

Justification from experts such as historians will indicate whether the history is right or wrong. Numerous historians believe that the history of iron
maiden was wrong. Wolfgang Schild who is a historian from University of Bielefeld has argued that the iron maiden's purpose is not to torture people
instead, it is used in trade–shows. Based on the historians' research and justification, it also was not created during the middle ages. Justifications from
experts will affect the perception of people about iron maiden because they have higher knowledge in this field. Thus, our personal knowledge about it
will be different. We will never recognize it again as a torture device when the perception was interfered by the shared knowledge that we can gain from

Shared Reading Summary
The purpose of this information report is to discuss the literacy pedagogy evident in the Shared Reading displayed in the video lesson of Baboons Nest
with Jill Eggleton (ref). Eggleton repeated the story over five days to a whole class of year one students to focus on five different literacy pedagogies
and how they can be achieved effectively. Throughout this report, I will analysis the specific observed pedagogies used in the shared reading during the
5 days and support this with academic literature.
Shared reading is part of a balanced early literacy framework firstly introduced by Holdaway in 1979 to adapt the philosophy of bedtime reading at
home into the classroom (reading). Holdaway developed this type of experience for children to engage in big books while being guided and supported
by an experienced reader in a non–threatening context (text). Shared reading is beneficial if done in mixed ability groups within a whole class
environment where all students are looking at the same text. This gives children the opportunity to experience books that they might not yet feel
comfortable reading and reinforce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Comprehension is understanding and interpreting the text (rockets website). The strategies to develop comprehension used on this day was using good
voice characterization to get the story to come alive and reading the entire story without stopping. Asking the children various questions to stimulate
discussion about issues in the book and to be in character to use the message in the text to make a self to text connection (video). Children can become
more engaged in the experience when they are connecting and drawing on their prior knowledge and experiences when connecting with the text (read,
write, think). It is also important for children to decode what they read and think deeply about what they have read. (rockets). Without comprehension
children are just following words on a page without

This research project explored a group of nursery aged children's development of shared goals, through both child–led and adult involved role play.
This enquiry was explored through a small scale qualitative case study of 8 children, who attended a one form entry primary school in Jersey. The
project involved two key areas, these were to explore: the factors influencing shared goals in role play, and the forms of adult intervention to support
the development of these shared goals. Observations were used as the main research method to collect the data, and were analysed through use of the
Leuven Scale of Involvement and the Social Play Continuum.
The main findings of this project suggest that the children developed securer shared goals, and

Shared Governance Paper
February 25, 2015 In a simple definition, shared governance is one of the most innovative and idealistic of organization structures, was developed in
the mid–1980s as an alternative to the traditional bureaucratic organization structure (Huston & Marquis, 2004). Shared governance is based on the
principals of equity, accountability, ownership, and partnership. This process of management allows each healthcare worker to have a voice in the
decision–making and encourage input that will help grow the business and healthcare missions of the organization. In all, it makes each healthcare
employee feel as if they are involved with a personal part in the success of the organization. The more employees who are satisfied with ... Show more

To impact healthcare in patient delivery, employees must focus on staying happy with their jobs to have more positivity about the outcomes. Examples
include: longevity of employment, increased employee satisfaction, better safety and healthcare, greater patient satisfaction, shorter lengths of stay.
Therefore; employees who are satisfied with their career and job setting will show more positive outcomes towards patient care. In summary,
implementing shared governance is a great partnership in the healthcare workplace. Healthcare workers should continuously strive better the work
environment. It is known that shared governance requires strategic change in organizational culture and leadership. It demands a significant realignment
in how leaders, employees, and systems transition into new relationships and responsibilities. In the spirit of continuous improvement and
professionalism, healthcare organizations must never stop seeking ways to engender a satisfying and fulfilling workplace (Hutchison & Moore, 2007).

Abstract
The global nursing shortage has prompted health care systems to seek new strategies to attract and retain nurses. The growing evidence points to the
shared governance model of management are as a possible strategy to improve productivity, nurse job satisfaction and nurse retention. There are
different models of shared governance, but a clear relationship exists between nurse practice environment and higher retention rates. Research found

Shared governance grew in popularity because of nurses' dissatisfaction with hospitals administration but waned in interest in the 90's. Shared
governance has suffered from a variety of names and interpretations and although these definitions differ in their depth, common words like autonomy
and empowerment and collaboration always arise. Shared governance is a professional model for nurse management which leads to nurse autonomy,
empowerment, job satisfaction and improved patient outcomes. Research show nurses want a professional, autonomous environment for practice that
recognizes the value of its nurses, and allow greater control over the practice environment. Proximity to job and monetary gain was listed as less
important. Administrators utilize this form of management to enhance recruitment of professional nurses, maintain a stable professional, workforce that
deliver safe effective cost conscious care. Some nurses will argue shared governance is just a organizational model of management, and "various factors
lead to turnover, including excessive physical and psychological demands, unsupportive environments and long shift work" (Trinkoff, Johantgen,
Liang, Gurses, Storr, Hopkinson, Han, 2010 p. 309).

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Joint Custody
Once a couple gets a divorce and they have children, they must figure out what custody works best for them. There are two types of custody, physical
and legal. If the parent has legal custody, that means they are responsible for making decisions for the child: what school they go to, what religion to
follow, and when to go to the doctors. If the parent has physical custody, then the child lives with that parent. One parent can have sole custody or both
parents can share custody. Shared custody is more common because the child will be able to interact with each parent regularly. Judges are the people
that decide what custody to give to the couple, if they are unable to decide for themselves. There are a variety of factors that help judges decide ... Show

Although every family is unique, judges presume that all families are alike and should have the same resolution to custody matters (Camazine). Judges
want what's best for the child, but what they choose is not always the best. They agree that joint custody should not apply to cases with domestic
violence and incest but they often do not believe that those things happen so they still order it. Judges know that joint custody does not usually work in
high–conflict custody battles, but they will order it in hopes of forcing the parents to, "Grow up" and learn to compromise. It may seem like it is all the
judges fault for choosing the wrong custody, but there are other factors that contribute to those bad decisions. Overworked and underpaid judges are
frequently denied proper time to hear cases. They are forced into making plaintiffs and defendants accept not very good settlements so that cases will
close. They opt for fast compromises to move cases along. There is a 1980 New Jersey custody battle that shows that judges can make bad decisions
based on their own opinions. A New Jersey judge mandated joint custody even though the father did not want it and both parents agreed that the mother
should have sole custody. During that case the judge went to a father's convention that talked about the "joy" of joint custody, and how all fathers
should always experience the pleasure of

Shared And Shared Knowledge
An integral component of the society is an individual. The power of society shapes every individual to be an inter–connected component to the societal
function. The structure of society would distort if these individuals were to work against society. Hence, our society translates into a 'Shared
knowledge'. This is the process by which many individuals come together to shape Shared Knowledge. However, one must study the relationship that
builds the connection between of shared and personal knowledge. Thus, I believe that personal knowledge is a manifestation of shared knowledge
which may conform or reject this shared body of knowledge. It follows a recurring and circular form of advancement which results in the progression
of knowledge in this shared knowledge system.
'Knowledge' is defined as the particular data or skillset that an individual or a society holds. Furthermore, it constitutes of morals, values and truths. It

During the Victorian Era, Charles Darwin published his book and theory of evolution. This theory sparked debates worldwide. Furthermore, book
reviews and mass criticism existed in the press. His theory was condemned by governments and religious institutions. As time passed by, Darwin
further established his theory with research on flora and fauna. Consequent to later advancements in the scientific community, Darwin's theory was
supported by world renowned scientists and was finally accepted as a possible explanation to the evolution of Man.
Charles Darwin's example represents the idea that personal knowledge is what shapes shared knowledge. However, it remains a manifestation of shared
knowledge. Darwin extrapolated and researched on existing data and environment, which further converted that shared knowledge into a reason for the
shared knowledge to grow. His personal knowledge was quite simply, a shadow of shared

Shared Reading Research
With fifty percent of parents reporting that they do not read to their preschool child, emergent literacy, a mouthful that means the "skills and knowledge
that children develop before receiving formal instruction in reading and writing", (Duursma, Augustyn, & Suzkerman, 2010, p. 4) becomes extremely
important. All the basics of reading we think of can be shared before school even starts. How to hold a book. Stories have a beginning, middle, and end.
Words begin at the top of the page, continue to the bottom, and start again at the top of the next page. How to turn a page. That sounds rhyme or start
with the same sounds. Early literacy, emergent reading, read–alouds, shared reading – all educational buzzwords that relate to reading to young
children.
There has been a great deal of research in the area of whether reading aloud to young children is beneficial. Most experts believe that it is. Ample
evidence shows that reading aloud to young children promotes the "development of language and other emergent literacy skills, which in turn help
children prepare for school." (Duursma, Augustyn, & Auckerman, 2008, p. 554). Research shows there are always advantages in ... Show more content

Personal and shared knowledge are two similar definitions which are clearly distinguished by one single word. There is a clear distinction between
shared and person knowledge in the sense that personal knowledge always allows you to logically think/say, "I know" rather than "we know" which is
used when discussing shared knowledge. Although personal knowledge and shared knowledge represent two different ideas, they somehow almost

Leaders without vision is just like captain of a ship without destination. Vision is said to be "a dream or idea that is specific enough to provide guidance
to people yet vague enough to encourage initiative and to remain relevant under a variety of conditions." (Grossman & Valiga, 2013, p. 86). Successful
leaders generally have unique and certain characteristics in common, and vision is one of those characteristics that nearly all leaders share (Martin,
McCormack, Fitzsimons, & Spirig, 2014). In addition, vision should be a shared one (Clark, 2008), otherwise, ability to embrace it by followers in any
organization will spell doom. An effective leader in health care system should promote change readiness in his or her team, so that there will be less
confusion when actual change is implemented. In order to achieve the practice of a shared vision, where all stakeholders will be fully involved, it is

Shared Inquiry Questions
Shared Inquiry Discussions Shared Inquiry is a way of learning that helps people of all ages to discover the ideas, meaning, and information found in
everything they read. The leader regulates the flow of the of the discussion and prepares questions that initiate the discussion. The leaders also
challenge others to help them learn the information better with inaccurate statements to test them and then ask for evidence. If students get off track
with the discussion then the leader needs to redirect them. They should know when it is time to ask a new question then get them to solve the next
problem. Interpretive questions are a type of question the leader should be asking. Interpretation is the main reason for having a shared inquiry
discussion. Composing questions about the text the best preparation for discussion, because it forces the discussion leader to engage with the work and
form some preliminary ideas about its meaning. A good interpretive question is genuine – one that has arisen from the reader's own response to the
work and his or her curiosity about it, and that is still unresolved and a matter of doubt. Interpretive questions call for a careful assessment of what the
author means in a work. To decide if a question is interpretive, use this simple test: you should be able to write at least two different answers to it,

Shared Inquiry Discussions The leader of a shared inquiry discussion not only develops the interpretive questions that begin discussion, but also
balances its flow. Leaders challenge members´ unclear, factually inaccurate, or contradictory statements. Follow up on members´ answers, ask for
evidence, and invite further responses. There are three different types of questions used during shared inquiry discussions, Interpretive, factual and
evaluative. The first type of questions are interpretive questions. Interpretation is the main purpose of a shared inquiry discussion. Since interpretations
will vary, encourage engaged conversation, and repeatedly appeal to the text for supporting evidence. Interpretive questions require precise judgement
of what the author means in a work. To determine if a question is interpretive , try using this simple test. You should be able to write at least two
different answers to it, supporting each answer with evidence from the text. It should express natural disbelief and interest. Honest doubt inspires others
to take the question seriously. The question should be specific to the work. If the question can be asked with only minor changes, then it is too general.

questions. The two frequently merge into each other. It is sometimes valuable to set aside the later part of a shared inquiry discussion for the questions

Examples Of Shared Knowledge
I value shared knowledge for it has contributed to my own understanding of the world. Most of the things "I know"–personal knowledge– are my
individual interpretation of what "we know"–shared knowledge. There is a strong link between shared knowledge and personal knowledge but the
extent to which shared knowledge shapes personal knowledge differs across disciplines. This essay explores the areas of knowledge of the Humanities
and the Arts, demonstrates that shared knowledge influences personal knowledge and then discusses the claim that shared and personal knowledge are
actually inseparable and may as well be one and the same thing. What is shared knowledge? It is the common knowledge that most people agree on and
it can travel across cultures. Such knowledge is assembled by a group of people for example most subject disciplines like Chemistry, Physics and
Biology. Historical facts and certain historical interpretations are good examples of shared knowledge. Personal knowledge on the other is not easily
shared. This type of knowledge depends crucially on the experiences of the individual for instance; I know how to knit, I know how to dance and I
know how to paint portraits. I gained such knowledge through practice and habituation. I sometimes find it difficult to put such knowledge into words
and share it with others. The main distinction between shared knowledge and personal knowledge is that the former is mostly knowledge by description

Knowledge is defined to be facts, information, and skills acquired through experience or education. There are two categories that fall under knowledge;
personal knowledge and shared knowledge. Shared knowledge refers to what "we know because." It can also be defined as communicated and

of his theories, however silently he continued to research. The Church's greatest fear was that Galileo's personal knowledge would ultimately change
the shared knowledge of the Church. In 1632, he published a book which presented both of the ideas of Copernicus and Ptolemy, and it was clear that
Galileo supported the Copernican theory which stated that the Earth moved around the Sun. Galileo was sentenced to court and found guilty. Under
torture, he admitted his findings were false. Only in 1992, the Catholic Church

Week 7 Discussion: Shared Practice – Ethical Code for Financial Management
Ethics is the basic standard of right or wrong which is practiced in our everyday lives be it professional or personal, it helps individuals to control their
actions. Organizations have a mission statement which identifies their company value. These values are used as a guide in decisions making when faced
with problems and determining the outcome. After reviewing Eli Lily and Company organizational ethical code for financial management, it appears to
be very thorough and touches most if not all of the main points that a company should display as their code of conduct. The principles listed were
acting in confidence, complying with rules and regulations, promoting ethical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If anything it should be displayed and be promoted the most, and should be a part of a quarterly training so that it stays fresh in the minds of
management as well as employees. When top executives practices ethical behavior, it behooves their employees to follow suit. Financial management
tends to create a variety of problems, hence the importance of why a financial institute or an accounting firm should ensure that their ethical standards
include discretion, honesty, fairness and proficiency. Therefore, when at a crossroad in making the right decisions, management will be able to look
back at the company's ethical standards which will assist them in making the right decision.

A Shared Writing Analysis
The second approach that Schulz (2009), suggests using with ELLs is shared writing. "Moire McKenzie (1985) who developed this process says,
shared writing is a collaborative process between teacher and children. Children begin to get in on the craft of writing" (Schulz, 2009, p. 60). For this
strategy, the teacher instructs students to write about a topic. Students write down ideas about the topic and then begin writing until the teacher says
pass it on. Once these words are said the students pass their paper to the person next to them. That student then receives the paper reads what their
neighbor wrote, then continues to finish the ideas on the paper passed to them. Once the teacher says pass it on again the process begins all over until

Shared Reading Summary
This section of the assignment is an information report on the literacy pedagogy in Jill Eggleton's video (2010) in which she leads a class in the shared
reading of the book Baboon's Nest. It will discuss the meaning and importance of shared reading, observed events within the video and a breakdown of
these events and their import role in teaching children.
Shared Reading
Shared reading is an interactive reading experience where teachers read aloud and focus students' attention on how print works, story structures and
word recognition (Seely Flint, Kitson, Lowe & Shaw, 2013, p. 249). It is an activity that allows the teacher to interact with the whole class and ensure
their comprehension of the text. The books used for shared reading are simple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rabbits play around and don't notice the fox until he springs out and tries to eat them. As the story progresses the number of rabbits goes down until
there is only one left. As the fox pounces, the remaining rabbit disappears down a rabbit hole where it is revealed the rest of the little rabbits have been
waiting. This book is great for shared reading as it has a definite rhyming rhythm to the sentences, and it repeats sentences over and over making it
easier for children to read along to. These are factors that according to Seely Flint, Kitson, Lowe & Shaw (2013, p. 250) make it an ideal book for
shared reading. The book also uses the word dinnertime on every second page in a bold font. This is something that enables the children to chime in and
become involved early in the reading of the book. It is assumed that this is what the fox is yelling as he pounces at the rabbits. At the end of the book it
is revealed that it was in fact the mother rabbit calling her children to dinner. This is a great little plot twist and provides a great avenue with which to
further discuss the

implement a shared leadership approach. I especially like the points about creating a positive climate, removing barriers and creating a vision. When I

Shared Knowledge Essay
There are many ways one can acquire knowledge. This means that knowledge comes in many forms such as personal and shared knowledge. Personal
knowledge is gained from one's own experiences. Shared knowledge is collected by a group of people over a period of time. Sharing knowledge can be

Shared Media Interdependence
Sharing a social network is a key component of interdependence in relationships. However, maintaining a social network is not always attainable. When
individuals who lack a shared circle of friends with their partners, sharing media such as TV or movies may compensate for this. Two recent studies
have assessed sharing real and fictional social worlds impact on relationships. The findings indicate that couples who lacked shared friends, sharing
media resulted in greater relationship quality as well as more motivated to share media with their partners. These recent studies suggest that shared
media can positively impact interdependence and allow couples to compensate for a lack of shared social network. Keywords: Interdependence, Self–

society. Many couples find that they look forward to binge–watching countless hours of Netflix series. However, this guilty pleasure may be beneficial

Essay On Shared Knowledge
Different types of knowledge influence us in different ways. The way in which knowledge affects an individual depends on the community of shared
knowledge they belong to. Shared knowledge is the product of more than one individual, and further shared amongst all individuals in a given group. It
is stated as something "We know." Shared knowledge is objective and not static, as over time, it evolves due to new advancements in the method of
enquiry. For example, in my IB Biology course, the subject matter in each learning outcome is the product of a large number of individuals working
together. The knowledge is shared amongst my colleagues and I, and other individuals in the Biology community. The IB Biology course is changing in
the near future due to new discoveries in the methods of inquiry that were accepted by the Biology community. Shared knowledge becomes ... Show

Edgar Schein is a respected expert on organizational culture and leadership. He has written numerous books including "Organizational Culture and
Leadership" (Schein, 2010). This specific publication outlines a structure for rapidly assessing the culture of an organization. The second method is
administering the "Organizational Culture Inventory (OCI), a statistically normed and validated survey used for organizational consulting and change
purposes" (Balthazard, Cooke, & Potter, 2006, p. 712).

The Arts And Shared Knowledge
The natural sciences and the arts are two areas of knowledge that play a prominent role in producing knowledge. Shared knowledge refers to procedural
(knowing how) or propositional knowledge (knowing that) which is agreed upon and accepted by groups of people; it evolves over time as methods of
justification change. For example, the Areas of Knowledge are considered shared knowledge because many people contribute to them. Personal
knowledge differs between individuals; it includes personal skills, acquaintances and procedural knowledge that have been acquired through
experience. It is much harder to communicate personal knowledge because it is based on personal experiences that differ between individuals
(Knowledge in ToK). Although they can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the essay prompt, 'shaping' refers to the idea that shared knowledge has a direct impact or influence on the acquisition of personal knowledge. It
implies that we rely on shared knowledge to gain personal knowledge. In the natural sciences, reason is heavily used to gain personal knowledge;
shared knowledge is therefore required to form assumptions and premises in reasoning models. The more people rely on reason, the stronger the
influence of shared knowledge on personal knowledge. In the arts, shared knowledge also impacts the gathering of personal knowledge. Intuition plays
as initial role in knowledge acquisition and does not require a framework of shared knowledge to function. However, other ways of knowing like sense
perception, language and imagination can be also used to produce knowledge. Such ways of knowing rely on shared knowledge and thus imply that
personal knowledge in the arts is shaped by it. The extent to which personal is shaped therefore depends on the ways of knowing being employed.
Perhaps the key consideration is that shared knowledge in the natural sciences (eg. the periodic table) is in general, universally accepted. In the arts
however, opposing forms of shared knowledge can exist due to there being different perspectives on art. Maybe this explains why shared knowledge is
more readily relied upon in science compared to art. In conclusion, shared knowledge can shape personal knowledge in both the natural sciences and
the arts to varying

Shared Governance In Nursing
Introduction Defining shared governance is easy; it is a leadership style that allows nurses at all levels to be involved in the decision making process
(Yoder–Wise, 2011). Understanding shared governance is much more complicated as it involves changing long held beliefs in hierarchical management
systems. Implementing shared governance requires commitment on the part of the agency, senior management, nursing leaders and staff nurses to be
successful. Utilizing shared governance improves outcomes by empowering nurses which in turn improves patient safety, decreases complications, and
reduces costs.
Evaluation
Definition of Process Shared governance empowers nurses by recognizing that nurses, as front line staff, are in a position to have a unique
understanding of the complexities of daily patient care. Utilization of unit–based councils made up of staff nurses to solve problems and evaluate
procedures ensures that evidence–based best practices are implemented (Fray, 2011). Shared decision making in nursing units increases the use of best
practices through process development, sharing of successes across multi–unit areas and in the development of new nurse leaders. Unit–based councils
are often chaired by younger nursing staff and nursing leaders act more as facilitators allowing these young new nurses to be ... Show more content on

The concept of shared governance was introduced late 1970s and begun implemented in nursing organization throughout US. It was proposed to be
essential in improving quality patient care, retaining of staff, containing cost. The rate of change affecting the delivery of health services is almost

Shared Leadership Papers

  • 1. Shared Leadership Papers Shared Leadership Leadership has been studied a countless amount of times, but there is not one leadership style that is proven to be the best for an organization. The complexity of today's business environment makes leadership increasingly more challenging. There have been continuous arguments about how it is becoming more difficult for any single individual to possess all of the skills and abilities required to competently lead an organization today (Kocolowski, 2010). Therefore, I believe having a leadership team of varying personality types or leadership styles, to such extent, is an effective way to manage the diversity in the workplace and the continuous changes in the world of work. Shared leadership can be defined as a dynamic interactive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I have had numerous jobs in my past, and have been exposed to very efficient management or leadership teams, and ones that have been significantly weaker and were evident in the work environment and employee attitudes. My reflection piece is outside of the typical work environment and is going to be based on my experiences attending University on a hockey scholarship; and my positive experiences with shared leadership. Although a hockey team may seem like an informal example of a successful shared leadership experience, the strategies executed by the leadership roles on the hockey team could be very easily transported into my future careers. The hierarchy of this specific example was the Head Coach of the hockey team, a Captain and three Assistant Captains; one being myself. To paint a picture, a typical workweek as a student athlete consisted of early morning one hour on ice skate, a full day of classes, an hour off–ice workout session, and an evening two–hour on ice skate. It was a very big commitment to balance the schedule of full time school and a full time job being an athlete as well. We were held to a different expectation than some of our surrounding students. The coaching staff, through weekly grade reports, closely monitored our GPA, and we were expected to maintain a higher minimum average than what the school specifies in order to compete ... • 5. Shared Stories Shared stories between the three religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are definitely a form of theological debate because each religion has very different interpretations of the stories. All three religions are similar in the sense that they believe in the same God, the God of Abraham. The differences in their belief begins with their relationship with God and the nature of God. Christians believe in the trinity, God has three natures, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Jewish believe there is only one God and he is the creator of everything. Muslims, like Jewish, believe God is only one but they rely heavily on prophets. Shared stories that form theological debate are, the story of Sarah and Hagar and the story of Mary and the birth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each religion breaks down the stories differently which eventually lead to different interpretations. In the preview of chapters 4–6 by Gregg, he explains how the Jewish wanted to find the missing pieces of the story, so they often added parts, while the Muslims did the opposite and ignored many parts of the story. He also explains that Christians wanted to find the deeper meaning of the story and how the covenant made with Abraham, is prominent in this story. Christians and Jews focus more on Abraham, Sarah, and Isaac, they see Hagar and Ishmael as much lesser than the other three. The Jewish interpretation often explains Sarah as righteous and strong willed for example she tells Abraham to do something and he does it, her complaints to Abraham were considered valid, and her infertility issues were justified by the rabbis. They would say, "Notable women were sometimes barren" (130). But Hagar is seen as worthless and weak. She does not stand up for herself, she is seen as giving up when her child is about to die, she is continuously identified in the text as not equal to Sarah. Christians have a similar view, they see Sarah as the mother of all free people and she represents Christians, while Hagar is the mother of all slaves and she represents Judaism. Christians seem to have a harsh attitude towards Judaism and their practice of circumcision which all represents Hagar in this story. Muslims do not mention Sarah or Hagar directly but they have more respect for Hagar and Ishmael. Hagar is not banished into the wilderness in the Muslim story like in the Christian and Jewish story, instead she is sent on a pilgrimage to Mecca. Also, Hagar is not seen as weak in Muslim's interpretation she is seen as overcoming God's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. It is about how individuals fit together with others and with things around them. Ordering is all the time practised by people and is central to social life. Social order is not easy to make, it involves a lot of things like practices, making everything and everyone fit together and also having in mind ideas about the past and the future (Silva, 2009). Social order needs to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The purpose was to design towns in a way that there could be an access for a lot of motor vehicles and at the same time sufficient level of life in towns (Silva, 2009). In this report Buchanan's idea was to keep separate 'working, shopping and leisure form the 'corridors' where the traffic would move' (as cited in Silva, 2009). At this point there was a choice between not allowing any more cars in towns and just reconstructing them. After the mid–1960s, in towns started a separation of people from the vehicles. Sometimes it was very strict, when people where pushed away in residential blocks (Silva, 2009). In Buchanan's Report traffic has a dynamic role in shaping the way places are designed, the way people live and interact with each other and also with surroundings. He looks at the traffic as something dangerous and because of that it needs to be separated and restricted by rules forced through visible displays in space. His report was accepted by public. Later government commissioned work and its way of road planning has influenced almost half a century of road design in England. There was a privilege for motor vehicles and pedestrians with cyclist were marginalised (Silva, 2009). After years of separating pedestrians from traffic, Monderman's suggested the 'shared space' philosophy, which was concentrated on different approaches to the public spaces and highways from Buchanan Report. The aim of Monderman's thesis was to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Characteristics Of Shared Knowledge Shared knowledge is commonly regarded as the information or knowledge that the majority already knows despite a few people may not know about it. Any knowledge that can be classified as shared knowledge can be connected from one person to another especially during a discussion or communicate each other. Collective learning also might trigger a shared knowledge to be spread among our society. Shared knowledge is a collection of personal knowledge that can be gained from peoples' past experience. It will affect the personal knowledge of people who does not have that experience. When they are in the same situation, other peoples' past experience might be helpful in order to make any assumptions or perceptions. Meanwhile, personal knowledge is similar to the words "I know" which is knowledge that a person has that is basically gained from their own experience. This knowledge also can be gained through observation. What do we know about ourselves? Sometimes, our behavior would be our first knowledge because in this sense we will repeat it often in our daily routine. Wolfgang Schild who is a historian from University of Bielefeld has argued that the iron maiden's purpose is not to torture people instead, it is used in trade–shows. Based on the historians' research and justification, it also was not created during the middle ages. Justifications from experts will affect the perception of people about iron maiden because they have higher knowledge in this field. Thus, our personal knowledge about it will be different. • 11. Shared Reading Summary The purpose of this information report is to discuss the literacy pedagogy evident in the Shared Reading displayed in the video lesson of Baboons Nest with Jill Eggleton (ref). Eggleton repeated the story over five days to a whole class of year one students to focus on five different literacy pedagogies and how they can be achieved effectively. Throughout this report, I will analysis the specific observed pedagogies used in the shared reading during the 5 days and support this with academic literature. Shared reading is part of a balanced early literacy framework firstly introduced by Holdaway in 1979 to adapt the philosophy of bedtime reading at home into the classroom (reading). Holdaway developed this type of experience for children to engage in big books while being guided and supported by an experienced reader in a non–threatening context (text). Shared reading is beneficial if done in mixed ability groups within a whole class environment where all students are looking at the same text. This gives children the opportunity to experience books that they might not yet feel comfortable reading and reinforce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Comprehension is understanding and interpreting the text (rockets website). Children can become more engaged in the experience when they are connecting and drawing on their prior knowledge and experiences when connecting with the text (read, write, think). It is also important for children to decode what they read and think deeply about what they have read. (rockets). Without comprehension children are just following words on a page without ... This enquiry was explored through a small scale qualitative case study of 8 children, who attended a one form entry primary school in Jersey. The project involved two key areas, these were to explore: the factors influencing shared goals in role play, and the forms of adult intervention to support the development of these shared goals. Observations were used as the main research method to collect the data, and were analysed through use of the Leuven Scale of Involvement and the Social Play Continuum. • 15. Shared Governance Paper February 25, 2015 In a simple definition, shared governance is one of the most innovative and idealistic of organization structures, was developed in the mid–1980s as an alternative to the traditional bureaucratic organization structure (Huston & Marquis, 2004). Shared governance is based on the principals of equity, accountability, ownership, and partnership. This process of management allows each healthcare worker to have a voice in the decision–making and encourage input that will help grow the business and healthcare missions of the organization. In all, it makes each healthcare employee feel as if they are involved with a personal part in the success of the organization. The more employees who are satisfied with ... Examples include: longevity of employment, increased employee satisfaction, better safety and healthcare, greater patient satisfaction, shorter lengths of stay. Therefore; employees who are satisfied with their career and job setting will show more positive outcomes towards patient care. In summary, implementing shared governance is a great partnership in the healthcare workplace. Healthcare workers should continuously strive better the work environment. It is known that shared governance requires strategic change in organizational culture and leadership. It demands a significant realignment in how leaders, employees, and systems transition into new relationships and responsibilities. In the spirit of continuous improvement and professionalism, healthcare organizations must never stop seeking ways to engender a satisfying and fulfilling workplace (Hutchison & Moore, 2007). La Quinta Roberts Kaplan University NU499 Bachelor's Capstone in Nursing Natasha Zurcher, MSN/ED, RN, CPN April 6, 2014 Abstract The global nursing shortage has prompted health care systems to seek new strategies to attract and retain nurses. The growing evidence points to the shared governance model of management are as a possible strategy to improve productivity, nurse job satisfaction and nurse retention. There are different models of shared governance, but a clear relationship exists between nurse practice environment and higher retention rates. Research found long hours, and unsupportive practice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shared governance grew in popularity because of nurses' dissatisfaction with hospitals administration but waned in interest in the 90's. Shared governance has suffered from a variety of names and interpretations and although these definitions differ in their depth, common words like autonomy and empowerment and collaboration always arise. Shared governance is a professional model for nurse management which leads to nurse autonomy, empowerment, job satisfaction and improved patient outcomes. Research show nurses want a professional, autonomous environment for practice that recognizes the value of its nurses, and allow greater control over the practice environment. Proximity to job and monetary gain was listed as less important. Administrators utilize this form of management to enhance recruitment of professional nurses, maintain a stable professional, workforce that deliver safe effective cost conscious care. Some nurses will argue shared governance is just a organizational model of management, and "various factors lead to turnover, including excessive physical and psychological demands, unsupportive environments and long shift work" (Trinkoff, Johantgen, Liang, Gurses, Storr, Hopkinson, Han, 2010 p. 309). Discussion The councilor model is used by Magnet Hospitals and it is the most popular. Hospitals do not have to be Magnet to have this shared governance structure. • 19. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Joint Custody Once a couple gets a divorce and they have children, they must figure out what custody works best for them. There are two types of custody, physical and legal. If the parent has legal custody, that means they are responsible for making decisions for the child: what school they go to, what religion to follow, and when to go to the doctors. If the parent has physical custody, then the child lives with that parent. One parent can have sole custody or both parents can share custody. Shared custody is more common because the child will be able to interact with each parent regularly. Judges are the people that decide what custody to give to the couple, if they are unable to decide for themselves. There are a variety of factors that help judges decide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although every family is unique, judges presume that all families are alike and should have the same resolution to custody matters (Camazine). Judges want what's best for the child, but what they choose is not always the best. They agree that joint custody should not apply to cases with domestic violence and incest but they often do not believe that those things happen so they still order it. Judges know that joint custody does not usually work in high–conflict custody battles, but they will order it in hopes of forcing the parents to, "Grow up" and learn to compromise. It may seem like it is all the judges fault for choosing the wrong custody, but there are other factors that contribute to those bad decisions. Overworked and underpaid judges are frequently denied proper time to hear cases. They are forced into making plaintiffs and defendants accept not very good settlements so that cases will close. They opt for fast compromises to move cases along. There is a 1980 New Jersey custody battle that shows that judges can make bad decisions based on their own opinions. A New Jersey judge mandated joint custody even though the father did not want it and both parents agreed that the mother should have sole custody. During that case the judge went to a father's convention that talked about the "joy" of joint custody, and how all fathers should always experience the pleasure of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The structure of society would distort if these individuals were to work against society. Hence, our society translates into a 'Shared knowledge'. This is the process by which many individuals come together to shape Shared Knowledge. However, one must study the relationship that builds the connection between of shared and personal knowledge. Thus, I believe that personal knowledge is a manifestation of shared knowledge which may conform or reject this shared body of knowledge. It follows a recurring and circular form of advancement which results in the progression of knowledge in this shared knowledge system. 'Knowledge' is defined as the particular data or skillset that an individual or a society holds. Furthermore, it constitutes of morals, values and truths. It can be acquired by experience or by ... Consequent to later advancements in the scientific community, Darwin's theory was supported by world renowned scientists and was finally accepted as a possible explanation to the evolution of Man. Charles Darwin's example represents the idea that personal knowledge is what shapes shared knowledge. However, it remains a manifestation of shared knowledge. With reference to two areas of knowledge; discuss how shared knowledge can help shape personal knowledge. Personal and shared knowledge are two similar definitions which are clearly distinguished by one single word. There is a clear distinction between shared and person knowledge in the sense that personal knowledge always allows you to logically think/say, "I know" rather than "we know" which is used when discussing shared knowledge. Shared Inquiry Questions Shared Inquiry Discussions Shared Inquiry is a way of learning that helps people of all ages to discover the ideas, meaning, and information found in everything they read. The leader regulates the flow of the of the discussion and prepares questions that initiate the discussion. Most of the things "I know"–personal knowledge– are my individual interpretation of what "we know"–shared knowledge. There is a strong link between shared knowledge and personal knowledge but the extent to which shared knowledge shapes personal knowledge differs across disciplines. This essay explores the areas of knowledge of the Humanities and the Arts, demonstrates that shared knowledge influences personal knowledge and then discusses the claim that shared and personal knowledge are actually inseparable and may as well be one and the same thing. What is shared knowledge? It is the common knowledge that most people agree on and it can travel across cultures. Such knowledge is assembled by a group of people for example most subject disciplines like Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Historical facts and certain historical interpretations are good examples of shared knowledge. Personal knowledge on the other is not easily shared. This type of knowledge depends crucially on the experiences of the individual for instance; I know how to knit, I know how to dance and I know how to paint portraits. When individuals who lack a shared circle of friends with their partners, sharing media such as TV or movies may compensate for this. Two recent studies have assessed sharing real and fictional social worlds impact on relationships. The findings indicate that couples who lacked shared friends, sharing media resulted in greater relationship quality as well as more motivated to share media with their partners. These recent studies suggest that shared media can positively impact interdependence and allow couples to compensate for a lack of shared social network. Keywords: Interdependence, Self– expansion The Benefits of Shared Media Use for Close Relationships The expression "Netflix and Chill" has been a widespread expression used in our society. Many couples find that they look forward to binge–watching countless hours of Netflix series. However, this guilty pleasure may be beneficial for your relationship. • 67. Essay On Shared Knowledge Different types of knowledge influence us in different ways. The way in which knowledge affects an individual depends on the community of shared knowledge they belong to. Shared knowledge is the product of more than one individual, and further shared amongst all individuals in a given group. It is stated as something "We know." Shared knowledge is objective and not static, as over time, it evolves due to new advancements in the method of enquiry. For example, in my IB Biology course, the subject matter in each learning outcome is the product of a large number of individuals working together. The knowledge is shared amongst my colleagues and I, and other individuals in the Biology community. The IB Biology course is changing in the near future due to new discoveries in the methods of inquiry that were accepted by the Biology community. Shared knowledge becomes ... For example, I grew up in a community associated with the IB Diploma, therefore, I think the IB diploma is a superior academic program in comparison to AP, where as a student in the community associated with AP would disagree, arguing that AP is superior. IB has provided me with an international perspective, one that my friends taking AP do not understand. A majority of an individual's knowledge is from shared knowledge, therefore one must have faith in the community they are accepting the knowledge from before accepting it. For example, when I broke my arm while snowboarding, I had faith in what my doctor told me rather than the my friend when treating a broken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Three Dialogues Dialogue 1: Talking about your problem . Opponent: Why do you need to identify the optimal cultural traits and basic shared assumptions of an academic library? . Me: Because, failing to understand or acknowledge optimal cultural traits and basic shared assumptions within the organization may fortify traditional and narrow approaches to delivering excellent services and programs to the academic community. . Opponent: Will you actually be able to change the culture of the organization by understanding its optimal traits and shared assumptions? . There are multiple options for assessing the organizational culture, however for this specific question I am focused on two strategies. Edgar Schein is a respected expert on organizational culture and leadership. He has written numerous books including "Organizational Culture and Leadership" (Schein, 2010). This specific publication outlines a structure for rapidly assessing the culture of an organization. The second method is administering the "Organizational Culture Inventory (OCI), a statistically normed and validated survey used for organizational consulting and change purposes" (Balthazard, Cooke, & Potter, 2006, p. 712). . • 71. The Arts And Shared Knowledge The natural sciences and the arts are two areas of knowledge that play a prominent role in producing knowledge. Shared knowledge refers to procedural (knowing how) or propositional knowledge (knowing that) which is agreed upon and accepted by groups of people; it evolves over time as methods of justification change. For example, the Areas of Knowledge are considered shared knowledge because many people contribute to them. Personal knowledge differs between individuals; it includes personal skills, acquaintances and procedural knowledge that have been acquired through experience. It is much harder to communicate personal knowledge because it is based on personal experiences that differ between individuals (Knowledge in ToK). Although they can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the essay prompt, 'shaping' refers to the idea that shared knowledge has a direct impact or influence on the acquisition of personal knowledge. It implies that we rely on shared knowledge to gain personal knowledge. In the natural sciences, reason is heavily used to gain personal knowledge; shared knowledge is therefore required to form assumptions and premises in reasoning models. The more people rely on reason, the stronger the influence of shared knowledge on personal knowledge. In the arts, shared knowledge also impacts the gathering of personal knowledge. Intuition plays as initial role in knowledge acquisition and does not require a framework of shared knowledge to function. However, other ways of knowing like sense perception, language and imagination can be also used to produce knowledge. Such ways of knowing rely on shared knowledge and thus imply that personal knowledge in the arts is shaped by it. The extent to which personal is shaped therefore depends on the ways of knowing being employed. Perhaps the key consideration is that shared knowledge in the natural sciences (eg. the periodic table) is in general, universally accepted. In the arts however, opposing forms of shared knowledge can exist due to there being different perspectives on art. Maybe this explains why shared knowledge is more readily relied upon in science compared to art. In conclusion, shared knowledge can shape personal knowledge in both the natural sciences and the arts to varying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Shared Governance In Nursing Introduction Defining shared governance is easy; it is a leadership style that allows nurses at all levels to be involved in the decision making process (Yoder–Wise, 2011). Understanding shared governance is much more complicated as it involves changing long held beliefs in hierarchical management systems. Implementing shared governance requires commitment on the part of the agency, senior management, nursing leaders and staff nurses to be successful. Utilizing shared governance improves outcomes by empowering nurses which in turn improves patient safety, decreases complications, and reduces costs. Evaluation Definition of Process Shared governance empowers nurses by recognizing that nurses, as front line staff, are in a position to have a unique understanding of the complexities of daily patient care. Utilization of unit–based councils made up of staff nurses to solve problems and evaluate procedures ensures that evidence–based best practices are implemented (Fray, 2011). Shared decision making in nursing units increases the use of best practices through process development, sharing of successes across multi–unit areas and in the development of new nurse leaders. Unit–based councils are often chaired by younger nursing staff and nursing leaders act more as facilitators allowing these young new nurses to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "By removing a lane of traffic, we create a traffic calming and pedestrian friendly downtown," says Dave Lustberg, CEO of Arterial, LLC., the company engaged by Millburn to design the Complete Streets project. Lustberg acknowledges there will be an initial period of 'strife' as drivers grow accustomed to the new layout, but stresses that studies show that even reducing vehicle speed 5mph from 30 to 25 reduces the chances of fatality in vehicle vs. pedestrian accidents by 35%. "They may have reduced traffic on Millburn Ave., " says Rothbort, "but now we have cars speeding through the South Mountain and Washington neighborhoods. • 77. Shared Governance Essay The concept of shared governance was introduced late 1970s and begun implemented in nursing organization throughout US. It was proposed to be essential in improving quality patient care, retaining of staff, containing cost. The rate of change affecting the delivery of health services is almost overwhelming. Nursing leaders are struggling to keep up with the demands of a constraining and changing health care system.
