A qualitative study to show how other affect individual development, using thematic analysis.
ABSTRACT This study will examine the ways that adults construct their own attachment
experiences and relationships along and how others influence these attachments and their
development. The chosen method for data collection was interviews as they provide full and detailed
data for thematic analysis. Other researchers studying within the social constructionist perspective
with a main focus on attachment found that attachment relationships are a central part of our lives,
which can stem from childhood experiences through to later adult life. There is also some evidence
to suggest environment influences an individual. Thematic analysis ... Show more content on

This type of interview allows room for discussion and the opportunity to speak freely in answer to
the questions giving the participant a more relaxed feeling of a conversation not an interview. The
interview was videotaped as well as transcribed (see appendix one for full transcript) this provides
the researcher with two forms of data each of which would not give the complete picture on their
own. The participant was a 50 year old single British woman which ha been provided by the Open
University, who gained the consent of the participant for the materials to be used. The participant
was fully briefed before the interview and debriefed after the interview, the interviewer also
informed the participant that she had the right to withdraw from the research at any point and also
asks for the consent form to be read and signed. When the interview had been completed thematic
analysis was carried out, re–watching the videotape with the transcript to first make descriptions of
what is going on, before making interpretations of the meanings presented and finally identifying
any recurrent themes or ides throughout the

Data Quality As Crime And Crime
In our continuing state of shrinking government operating budgets, crime scientists and crime
analysts need to consider the interrelatedness of spatial and temporal shifts in crime patterns when
creating, tracking, and handling crime hot spots. Many studies indicate that crimes are clustered at
the neighborhood level, but the entire neighborhood is rarely (if ever) criminogenic and only
specific parts of neighborhoods contain high concentrations of crime
CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Introduction
The study of crime traditionally involved disciples such as psychology and sociology (George,
1978) but crime has always had an inherent geographic quality as crimes will always be linked to a
geographical location (Chainey and Radcliff, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then finally looking at the study area of the District of Columbia (Washington D.C.), identifying

2.2 History of GIS and Crime The use of GIS in crime has been around for centuries with Dent
(2000) tracing the mapping of crime back to 1829, when Adriano Balbi and André Michel Guerry
created choropleth maps showing the relationship between violent and property crimes with
education levels. As time went on sociologists from the Chicago School, Shaw and McKay (1931)
began to map crimes by their XY coordinates to show the geographic location to understand the
importance of the crime location. In the 1980's the reduction in price of computers meant it became
more cost effective for GIS Applications (Longley et al, 2011). With the introduction of the new GIS
technologies, the ability to use police records within the GIS applications allowed for crime and
intelligence analysis (Radcliff, 2004). These days the advancements in technology and the
reductions in cost has resulted in GIS applications moving from the backroom computer analysis
tool to be used by almost every discipline, from criminology to healthcare, natural resources to
economics. These advancements have not just been in the applications but also in the science behind
them. This has allowed for more advanced analysis, which use well known mathematical models
within their calculations, such as spatial statistics and the use of the Getis–Ordi

The Pershkins Model
4. RESEARCH DESIGN
This project adopts a qualitative interpretive methodology. In particular, the project follows the
Pershkins model for qualitative research (Yin. K, p136, 2015). Using the Pershkins model, the
projects analyses qualitative data from South Parks 19th season. This is done using various different
research techniques such as visual methods, close readings, textual analysis and composition
analysis. The project follows an ethnographic approach to research, following Spradley's approach
to ethnography. The project shows a body of knowledge, including, theory, research and recounts
(Liamputtong. P, 148, 2009). The main sample set is South Parks 19th season. The data is analysed
by using both visual methods and textual methods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Analysis of South Parks 19th season will be conducted to see how the show adapted to political
correctness. This is done by using a combination of content analysis, discourse analysis and close
readings. Gibbs (2012) theory of thematic categorizing & analysis of narrative is used to analyse the
episodes of South Park. Gibbs theory on metaphors in particular will be used (Gibbs, p.4, 2012).
Semiotics are closely analysed, as the symbolic signs are the crux of the data. Chandler's (2017)
guide to semiotic analyse is implemented throughout the analysis.
5. FINDINGS
South Park's 19th season parodies all facets of PC culture. South Park critiques the function of PC
culture, how it's used by our society and how it affects different demographics. In episode 1
'Stunning and Brave' South Park critique political correctness with the constant gag of Caitlyn
Jenner running over someone in her car, with the constant gag of Caitlyn Jenner being a brave and
beautiful person. During her transition to female it was seen a politically incorrect to suggest that
what she was doing was not brave and extraordinary. Never mind the fact that she was transitioning
during a time when she was accused of killing

Concepts and Philosophies
Discuss why scale and resolution are important for your dissertation research
Scale can be a confusing definition in geography with its multiple referents. "Scale is about size,
either relative or absolute, and involves a fundamental set of issues in geography. Scale primarily
concerns space in geography. However, the domains of temporal and thematic scale are also
important to geographers. Temporal scale deals with the size of time units, thematic scale with the
grouping of entities or attributes such as people or weather variables. Whether spatial, temporal, or
thematic, scale in fact has several meanings in geography." (Montello, 2001) .The definition of

from soil sample to cantena to catchment or watershed. The problem with this is that generalisations
made at one level or scale does not always hold at other scales. Sampling can be done at the regional
scale with sampling the sediment load at mouth of river to estimate catchment erosion.
Scale and resolution are very important for dissertation research as they help monitor the
environment via measuring cross sections with stratigraphic logging, this is not trying to control
realist but still interfering. An act of measurement is always considered an act of intervention. There
is less control over variables in final based experiments such as erosion plots, but still want to
replicate variability present in reality. However there are scaling issues – strict scaling of materials
and forces cannot be applied. Experiments (laboratory and numerical) are the most extreme form of
intervention:
Selected variables and relations
Controlled and maintained
Magnitude and frequency compared to real world
The implications of reality, are to provide "what if" scenarios where manipulation of reality at
sufficient scale is not possible. Channel–Hill slope Integrated Landscape Development (CHILD)

information about the perspectives of college–age smokers. Studies are done in subjugation of
smokers to understand what may influence this unhealthy behavior, as in all psychology:
understanding the root and trigger of a problem may bring the solution. This study has specifically
focused on the college–age population of smokers in an aim to understand the cause and cessation of
smoking cigarettes. In result, the study has concluded that college–age smokers are in their prime to
be influenced by their environment into either picking up smoking as a habit or putting it down. The
study had strong uses of qualitative questioning in the interviews, which allowed for adequate
descriptive responses to be taken. However, one of the weakness of this study would be the limited
sample size. The subjects in question of this study is the smoking habit of 40 undergraduates in
American universities. This is the observation of addiction to nicotine, a widely reported
phenomenon that affects the health of one billion people daily. (1) This study plans to provide more

Albert Camus' The Myth of Sisyphus Essays
Albert Camus' The Myth of Sisyphus Albert Camus' essay, 'The Myth Of Sisyphus' is an insightful
analysis of the classic work, 'The Myth Of Sisyphus'. In some regards Camus' view of Sisyphus can
seem quite accurate and in tune with the original text, but based on Camus' interpretation of the
justness of Sisyphus' punishment, it is clear that the writer has some different ideas as well. Camus
concludes that this punishment does not have the effect the Gods had intended, and ultimately the
tragic hero must be seen as being 'happy'. This is his greatest departure from the intent of the
original myth wherein the reader is left with the feeling that Sisyphus' punishment can be seen as
appropriate and just. As his punishment for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the extent of Sisyphus? punishment is only described in the original story by a single sentence,
Camus takes great pains in describing the psychological effects it has on Sisyphus, and the mental
state he must be in to endure such an ordeal. In describing this, Camus focuses on the point at which
Sisyphus makes his decent back to gather his great rock. It is at this point that Camus makes clear as
to why he considers Sisyphus an ?absurd hero?. Assuming that this punishment can only be
considered tragic if Sisyphus becomes conscious of it, Camus points out that it is during this descent
that our main character becomes aware of his awful state, and in doing so becomes, ?superior to his
fate. He is stronger than his rock.? Camus suggests that Sisyphus is at ease with this punishment
because in this ?absurd? universe, man?s fate is the only thing that can be shaped by man, and in
doing so, that fate belongs to man. Sisyphus? rock belongs to him. If it is possible to see Sisyphus as
conscious during his descent, then it is surely possible that he is aware of his predicament during his
grueling ascent as well. Is Sisyphus not ?conscious? of the horrible punishment that he has been
handed by the Gods as he makes his way up the hill with his rock? It is his ascent that allows the
reader of the original story to remember what this act is supposed to represent, and it is the ascent
that Camus, although he describes it

Louise Mallard's Epiphany
A life with no creative outlet or freedom of expression is arguably no life at all. The model Victorian
woman is one who does not even have these basic rights. She is expected to devote her entire
existence to her family and run the household that her husband owns. This ideal woman is supposed
to have minimal care for her own ideas, curiosities, and emotions; leaving her unable to express her
creativity or intellect. Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour" discusses the "awakening," the
realization of her freedom and potential to express herself, of the main character, Louise Mallard.
Mrs. Mallard has been repressed by her husband for the greater part of their marriage, therefore
leaving her bereft of expression and personal enjoyment, as an ideal ... Show more content on

The quintessence of irony within the story is Louise's death after discovering her presumably dead
husband is alive, which would perpetuate her miserable life. When Brently returns home, Louise,
dumbstruck at this inexplicable event, has a heart attack and dies. Her extreme reaction to Brently's
startling arrival proves that she is extremely distraught at his appearance; if she felt any less
passionately about her newfound freedom she would have still been alive. Assuming that Louise
passed due to the joyous surprise, doctors proclaimed that, "she had died of heart disease––of the
joy that kills" (Chopin par. 20). This statement contradicts the reality of the situation – her newfound
feelings of freedom obtained through her awakening are seized from her instantaneously, therefore
leaving her in distress. Unlike most married women, who would be incredibly thankful and
astonished to have their husband "back from the grave," she was perturbed that her husband returns
alive because the free life that she looked forward to was brutally taken away from her in her eyes.
The meticulous and unique description of the last few minutes of Louise's life compliment the irony

Attachment Theory and Chloe S Life Essay
Tma o5 A QUALITITIVE STUDY SHOWING ADULTS PERCEPTION OF THE EFFECT THAT
SIGNIFICANT OTHERS HAVE ON THEIR DEVELOPMENT ABSTRACT The study examines
how adults perceive the influence of 'significant others' on their lives in the context of
developmental psychology and attachment theory. Thematic analysis was conducted on a previously
filmed DVD and it's transcript of a semi–structured interview. Carrying out the analysis the
researcher has found themes showing that 'significant others' do in fact influence psychological
development and relationships in later life. Findings also prove the theory of 'earned security'–
attachment style that we develop during childhood might indeed be changed in adulthood through
healthy relationships, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using the theoretical framework and previous studies mentioned above the researcher tried to
answer the research question How adults perceive that significant others in their lives ( people who
are or have been important) have affected their development? METHOD The researcher carried out
the analysis on pre–existing material. A semi structured interview with an actor playing the role of
an interviewee was conducted by The Open University. The DVD and transcript were provided to
the researcher– an Open University student who analysed the interview. DVD was edited and
transcript had each line sequentially numbered to aid quoting. The participant was a white,50 years
old British woman. Prior to the interview an informed consent permitting the use of the material was
signed. Participant was also informed of right to withdraw at any time and her right to decide for
any data to be destroyed. After the interview the participant was debriefed and given a chance to
give feedback and discuss her feelings about the experience. The video version of the interview was
watched four times on it's own and then additional three times with an aid of the transcript to gain a
general understanding of topics, when notes about tone of the voice, pauses and body language were

Book Review: 'Guarding the Golden Door' by Roger Daniels
Book Review Guarding the Golden Door by Roger Daniels Introduction Guarding the Golden Door
is a historic book written with an intention of analyzing, and addressing the policies that were
instigated to effect to immigration that was happening in America. Roger Daniels, a reputable
historian interested in historical literature, inscribed the book. Only one edition, the original copy,
has been produced since the publication of the book. The publisher of the book is Hill and Wang, a
press company based in the U.S. This was due during the course of year 2004. The lengthy book of
328 pages addresses the subject range of history in the United States. Its ISBN numbers are
0809053438 and 9780809053438. Thesis Rogers wrote Guarding the Golden Door from a personal
point of view. This is evident from the criticism unto which critics base their arguments. It is
through his perception that he purposed in writing the book. Roger Daniel has based his thesis upon
one general assessment of the immigration era in the U.S. It is a summation of one statement.
Thesis– The past has had a nostalgic effect to the immigrants and the issue has been magnified by
the threat the outsiders implicated upon the natives. Main Ideas of Roger Daniels As the author of
the book, Daniels has tried to exemplify his view towards hyperbolism of the rhetoric and
misleading statistics that were conceptualized by the legislation looking upon the immigration
process. He has also tried to depict his

Universal Truth Of Conflict In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
Conflict plays a large role in our daily lives. In William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet there
are five universal truths. These truths are conflict, love, communication, timing, and reputation.
Conflict is the most important truth focused on in Romeo and Juliet. Act three emphasizes conflict
more so than any of the other acts. Shakespeare conveyed the truth of conflict in Romeo and Juliet
to reveal the impact conflict has in daily life. The role conflict plays in daily life is revealed through
Mercutio being killed, Tybalt being killed in retribution, and the essay by Romeo and Juliet has a
central focus on conflict. The whole play is centered around two feuding families in the city of
Verona. These families are feuding due to each one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Thematic Framework of Romeo and Juliet then focuses on the various aspects about that
complexity, including conflict. Complexity, however, does not lead to conflict. Complexity is
conflict. Without conflict, nothing would be complex because complexity requires different options
that are not easily chosen between, or other types of problems. Bowling wrote, "This theme often
comes out in the form of paradox, since the characters are constantly being shocked and surprised
that one quality of a thing is often in sharp disagreement with some other quality (Bowling)."
Bowling agrees with the analysis of Romeo and Juliet having a central focus on conflict.
Throughout the play there are conflicting meanings often confuse the reader as well as the
characters. These paradoxes are included to show the profound effect of conflict within
communication. Without conflict, which is a disagreement between people or options, there would
be no complexity. The Thematic Framework of Romeo and Juliet continues to focus on the
complexity of the word choice in Romeo and Juliet. There are conflicting meanings within Romeo
and Juliet that lead to confusion between characters, leading to the overall conflict between the
Montagues and Capulets. Conflict is this shown to act as a catalyst in daily life through these

to other experts. * Reduces inaccuracy. * Helps the researcher to prepare to carry out the research in
a proper and systematic way. * Can help guide the research in the right direction.
1.1 Qualitative Research Methods
One method of research design is qualitative research. Qualitative research methods encompass a
range of different research methods that have a broad methodological approach. Qualitative methods
look more closely into the why and how of decision making. Denzin and Lincoln (2005) describe
qualitative research as involving "... an interpretive naturalistic approach to the world. This means
that qualitative researchers study things in their natural settings, attempting to make sense of or

2.2 Sample considerations
The target audience for this project is English speaking adults in Australia. Respondents of chosen
samples are about 18–26 years old male and female. However, incomprehensive coverage of
different age group of respondent may lead to a bias in this research.
2.3 Data collection and framework, and analytical considerations
The data was collected with certain procedures. Initially, comprehend the research topic and
objective, secondly, sketch the interview question by following the guidelines provided on QUT
Blackboard as framework of the research. Subsequently, record and conduct the interview with

Given that the research problem in this report is ambiguous, the basic research method adopted is
exploratory research. The role of exploratory research is to clarify and define a problem at the initial
stage of the research. Zikmund, Ward, Lowe, Winzar and Babin (2011), suggest that exploratory
research is not intended to provide conclusive evidence and is conducted with the expectation that
subsequent research will be required to provide such conclusive evidence. Thus, exploratory
research is the foundation of the research process which will lead to descriptive research, and maybe
causal research.
There are many exploratory methods that can be used to conduct research. These include field
studies, action research, depth interviews, focus groups and desk research. This exploratory research
utilised one qualitative method to collect data, which will help gain an insight of the research
problem before further research is performed. The method chosen was 'in–depth interviews' which
are relatively unstructured and extensive interviews in which the interviewer asks many questions
and probes for in–depth answers (Zikmund, Ward, Lowe, Winzar, & Babin; 2011). Zikmund,
Ward, Lowe, Winzar, and Babin, (2011) also suggest that there is no one perfect method which can
meet all research objectives.
In–depth interviews have been conducted with four members of the public who currently live in

Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay: In Depth Analysis
In Depth Analysis of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock
The five–line interlude ending on "the floors of silent seas" forms an encapsulated version of the
remainder of the poem, in which the frustrated effort to establish purposive discourse leads once
again to withdrawal downward and inward to a silent world of instinctual being. A return to images
of distension and distracting sensuality provokes a final impulse toward violent imposition of the
will––"to force the moment to its crisis"––which ends, like previous thoughts of disturbing the
universe, in ruthless self–mockery. The image of decapitation parodies the theme of disconnected
being and provides for at least a negative definition of the self: "I am no prophet."

It sets these infinitives against present participles, which are constantly muttering, sprawling,
rubbing, scuttling, and settling. Finally, it opposes these transitive verbs to intransitive verbs which
lie, linger, malinger, lean, curl, trail, wrap, slip, and sleep. A relative lack of modifiers and the
absence of plural forms further distinguishes the passage cited above. By contrast the language of
disordered experience, of imprecision and aimlessness, abounds in modifiers and plurals: restless
nights, one–night cheap hotels, visions and revisions, the sunsets and the dooryards, and the
sprinkled streets.
The structure of the imagery at this point in the poem corresponds to the thematic role played by
linguistic form. To have "bitten off" the matter, in addition to its hint of blunt force, would constitute
a positive reaction against endlessly idle talk; squeezing the universe into a ball would counteract
the world's tendency to fall apart and to spread itself out like yellow fog; finally, the act of rolling it
toward some overwhelming question at least imparts direction to the movement of the universe,
even if the actual destination, like the question, remains unclear. The idea of proclaiming oneself a
prophet "come back to tell you all" implies a power of linguistic discourse equal in magnitude to the
physical act of squeezing the universe into a ball. Once more the idea of language joins with images

Questions On Some Interviewing Tips
Some Interviewing Tips: 1. Identify yourself and make sure the person you are interviewing is at
ease and comfortable. 2. The respondent's reaction often mirrors that of the interviewer. The
respondent will know if you are not comfortable. Your pleasant, positive, well–informed approach
will be reflected in the interviewees readiness to respond. 3. If you want more detailed responses to
your questions, reinforce those kinds of answers–say, "Yes," "Okay," or "I see," or nod. Do not use
the same reinforces for unresponsive answers, using same reinforces for unresponsive answers gives
the wrong signal. 4. To teach and motivate the respondent, use feedback expressions like these:
"Thanks, this is the sort of information we're looking for in this research." "it's important to us to get
this information." "These details are helpful." "It's useful to get your ideas (your opinion) on this." "I
see; that's useful information." "Let me get that down." 5. Often repeat the question or give a pause
–maybe an expectant look or nod of the head, if possible– repeat, summarize, or reflect the feeling
tone of the reply. Say: "Anything else?" "How do you mean?" "Could you be more specific about
it?" "I'm not sure I know what you mean by that (bewildered look)." "Could you tell me a little more
specific?" However, u should not overuse these, or the respondent will think you cannot recognize a
valid answer. 6. Where examining recall, use probes that give memory cues of items likely to be

An Investigation Into Response For Disaster Using...
An Investigation into Response to Disaster Using Qualitative Methods
Abstract
This study investigated the accounts of individuals involved in the London underground bombings
in 2005. Throughout this investigation, thematic analysis was conducted on six eyewitness accounts,
highlighting their feelings and actions, which came about as a result of the incident. From these
accounts I obtained 4 key themes, which were consistent components of the six accounts. Evidently,
I found that the two most common themes were 'helping behaviour' and the 'panic' myth. This was
rather unexpected, as initially, I expected to find irrational and helpless behaviour, due to the panic
and stress of being trapped in a bombed underground. To conclude, the investigation illuminated the
concept of helping others before helping ones self. Thus, contradicting the concept of survival of the
fittest, as in this case the 'fittest' were those who took it upon themselves to assist other passengers in
need. Therefore, highlighting the power of empathy which was risen with experiencing the disaster.
Introduction
Terrorist attacks are a consistent global occurrence. The 2005 London underground bombings was an
attack which caused largest mass fatality occurrence in the UK since World War 2. As a result the
comfort and use of public transport in the UK was greatly impacted. Research into the fatalities and
physical repercussions of tragedies are amplified globally. For instance it is considered factual that

Film Analysis Of The Graduate And Annie Hall
Before the 1960s there were plenty of films made. In the 1950s things began to change for, in my
opinion, the better. It started with a new form of acting called method acting that encouraged
improvisation. This was key because it gave actors more control over their characters which allowed
for more realistic representations of characters allowing audiences to connect better to the film.
Having more control over a character is something that I found vital because it adds an even deeper
element to the film as a whole. Another important thing added in the 1950s was the addition of
subject matters and themes that focused on ordinary individuals. This was important again because it
added another element to the films that audiences could connect to. In the 1960s there was even
more change to the film industry. For example, there was a new focus on youth, with psychological
character studies of offbeat anti–heroes. More explicit presentation of sexuality, violence and drug
use on screen. Rebellion vs. the American mainstream, with new values and points of view. Self–
conscious use of cinematic effects, reflecting European influence and new twists on old film genre.
These new changes can be seen in cinematic and thematic elements in films including "The
Graduate" and "Annie Hall." To start this film analysis, we'll start with "The Graduate" directed by
Mike Nichols. Cinematically there were a lot of things added in this film that shows these new
features added to films in the

In this paper, we aim to fill what we, as researchers and teachers in qualitative psychology, have
experienced as a current gap: the absence of a paper which adequately outlines the theory,
application, and evaluation of thematic analysis, and one which does so in a way accessible to
students and those not particularly familiar with qualitative research. 1 That is, we aim to write a
paper which will be useful as both a teaching and research tool in qualitative psychology. Therefore,
in this paper we discuss theory and method for thematic analysis, and clarify the similarities and
differences between different approaches that share features in common with a thematic approach.
Qualitative approaches are incredibly diverse, complex and nuanced (Holloway & Todres, 2003),
and thematic analysis should be seen as a foundational method for qualitative analysis. It is the first
qualitative method of analysis that researchers should learn, as it provides core skills that will be
useful for conducting many other forms of qualitative analysis. Indeed, Holloway and Todres (2003:
347) identify "thematizing meanings" as one of a few shared generic skills across qualitative
analysis.2 For this reason, Boyatzis (1998) characterises it not as a specific method but as a tool to
use across different methods. Similarly, Ryan and Bernard (2000) locate thematic coding as a
process performed within „major‟ analytic traditions (such as grounded theory), rather than a

The Thematic Concept Of Fear In Beowulf And Gilgamesh
Overall Introduction:
For years, literature has been used to teach us important morals and life lessons. These life lessons
are often universal in nature. This means that no matter what age, gender, or status a person is,
anyone can relate to the theme being discussed. For this reason they are called universal themes.
Non– universal themes are themes that are specific to the story being told, but are not considered
universally understood. The following demonstrates that Beowulf and Gilgamesh both have the
same universal thematic statement concept of fear in addition to a multiple non–universal themes
throughout them.
Thematic Discussion When looking at the universal theme Gilgamesh and Beowulf, the thematic
concept is fear. The thematic statement for this universal theme would be: In literature, as well as in
real life, man often my come up against someone or something he fears and then must decide
whether or not they will act in cowardly or courageous way . The thematic concept for Beowulf that
is a non universal theme would be political generosity. The thematic statement would be that: In
Beowulf, one can see how generosity and hospitality were considered very important to the Danish
culture. However, this not considered a universal theme, because although generosity and hospitality
may have been considered very important attributes at the time Beowulf was written, not every
culture of the time considered these nicetes to be of the highest importance. The thematic

Critique Of A Qualitative Essay
This essay critically appraises a research article, and the title of this article is; Intimate partner
violence among pregnant young women: a qualitative inquiry. The article title clearly explains the
research, without being too extensive, using extraneous words or explaining the results found. The
basic concept of a title should provide a summary of the content. A good title should be straight
forward; a poorly written title will defer readers. Key words serve as key elements in the article,
including intimate partner violence, women's health, early pregnancy, resilience, qualitative
research. Again allowing the reader to know precisely what the article consists of. The abstract of

There is no explanation as to why the participants chose to take part in the study, nor why others

The Thematic Elements Of William Shakespeare 's Hamlet
Nobility or shame
The thematic elements found throughout many of William Shakespeare's plays are numerous. Such
themes further develop the plot of the story and help explain a universal purpose the story has.
Imagination seeps through every crevice in the reader's mind as to what a theme can be alluding to.
Throughout many of Shakespeare's written works, it can be noted that death, in particular suicide, is
a relevant and ongoing theme that Shakespeare gives way to. A prime example is that of the well–
known tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare does not stop at the tragedy of the star crossed
lovers, but further goes on to write several more tragedies that deal with suicide such as: Macbeth,
Julius Caesar, Othello, and Hamlet. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the rise of the Renaissance era, the motto "death before dishonor" was implanted in many
courtly ideals. Many chose to die than to have dishonor upon their name. It would be a burden that
they would live with for the rest of their lives if their name was put to shame. Suicide was given the
bad shoulder during this time, but many writers shined a light on it that further enhanced a work of
literature.
Shakespeare was one of the many writers that shined a light within the theme of suicide. Suicide in
his works further enhanced the development of the story. This is because suicide is a recurring
theme that gives way to understand the cultural impact that comes with being a mortal. Shakespeare
opens the window to this developing theme that is shunned upon by society. In order to understand
why suicide is a key theme that further develops a story, one has to understand the social
repercussions that suicide holds during that time. In Shakespeare's Hamlet it can be noted that even
though Hamlet did not go through with contemplated suicide, he still thought about whether he
should go through the difficulties of life and keep on suffering. For instance, Shakespeare writes
"and by opposing end them" (page.127, line 68). By opposing the Christian moral views, he knows
and values, Hamlet knows that suicide will end all his troubles and he will be at peace. Hamlet
decides not to partake in such action. This further

Media Analysis: Valerie And Her Week Of Wonders
Media analysis: Music
Music: a cinematic aspect of illustrative themes.
Valerie and her week of wonders (1970) is a classical movie that weaves all aspects of entertainment
facets to elicit an emotive, thought to provoke and illustrative themes of a spiritualistic society. The
aspects that creatively intertwine together to bring out the entire movie include genres, characters,
music, symbolism, sound effects and special effects (Limpscomb 41). The interest of our discussion
is how the music applied as an aesthetic accompaniment brings out: the sensational, the narrative
progression, and a bridge from one thematic aspect to another. A sneak view of the key themes
elicited musically is spiritualism, morality, and feminism (Adamscovell 2).
The clearest theme illustrated musically is religion: a spiritual dispensation that plays the largest role
depicting the interrelationship between the contemporary secular life and the spiritual realms
(Limpscomb 22). From the onset of the movie, the accompanying music hints a theology–based
motive of the character's personality. The seductive moves depicted by the priest towards her ...

disposition of the song at the onset depicts a misplaced theme, but the object clearly illustrates itself
at the successive sessions of the movie. The thematic representation of the musical preclusion of
future events is to: support Valerie's initial innocence in a world of immoral predators lurking under

Collecting Qualitative Data Paper
PART 1
Collecting Qualitative Data
Research truly is essential to the success of any marketing campaign or process and can greatly
contribute to the success of a product, service or brand in the marketplace. Market research can help
to determine risks and opportunities within the market, and can provide a greater depth of
understanding of consumers and the target audience. Market research helps to define and solve
research 'problems' and this is extremely beneficial to any business or organisation (Burns & Bush,
2003). By having consumer insight because of market research, marketers are able to promote a
product to the true relevant target market, rather than wasting time and money promoting to the
whole marketplace. There are two main methods of market research, being qualitative research and
quantitative research. Both of these methods have benefits and can be used in conjunction, but for
the best results one method of data collection is often used. Quantitative data focuses on a numerical
approach to data collection via the use of statistics and information taken from surveys and census
data. Qualitative data however focuses on gathering information and exploratory research through
observations and interviews. The main approaches to collecting this type of data are experience or
expert surveys, focus groups, and in–depth interviews (Diekroger, 2014).

The most qualitative research involves a number of characteristics Gray (2014): It is conducted
through intense contact with a 'field' or real life. The researcher's role is to gain a 'holistic' or
integrated overview of the study, including the perceptions of participants. Themes that emerge from
the data are often reviewed with the informants for verification. The main focus of the research is to
understand the ways in which people act and account for their actions.
An Effective research design is the methodology and procedure that a researcher follows,
remembering that in qualitative research the methods must be flexible. Each method that a
qualitative researcher follows has a way of data collection, has a research design and has a way to
analyse the data. Research design defines the study type, research question, hypothesis, variables
and data collection methods. the key features of each method are dependent upon the approaches
used, by the researcher. The most common sources of qualitative data

Qualitative Vs. Qualitative Analysis
Design:
The study will be done through qualitative line of inquiry. Qualitative data provides a prosperous,
thorough picture to be built up about why people act in certain ways, and their feelings about these
actions, which provides the researcher with a clear understanding of the data. Qualitative data is also
useful for studying limited data in–depth; for the purpose of this study to be accomplished, the data
needs to be studied in–depth. Thematizing meanings is one of few shared generic skills across
qualitative analysis (Holloway and Todres, 2003). The epistemological position of qualitative
research is interpretivist and this will be particularly helpful in attempting to understand the
struggles faced by female ex–offenders when they re–enter society and how they move past this to
get back on their feet (Bryman, 2012). Due to the nature of the research, secondary data analysis
will be employed through thematic analysis. Thematic analysis will be particularly useful in
understanding how the women desist from crime to sort out their lives and move on from a life of
crime "focuses on identifiable themes and patterns of living and talk and aims to generate
descriptions of strategies and behaviours" (Hammersmith and Atkinson, 1995). In addition, it will
also assist in understanding how prison life affects women's behaviour when they are released to
enter back into society.

The, The And, And The New York Times And Tehran
Thematization is considered the mental act or process of selecting particular topics as themes in
discourse or words as themes in sentences. This paper examines thematization strategies in English
opinion articles written by American and Iranian journalists. To this end, two of the leading
newspapers in the United States and Iran, The New York Times and Tehran Times, have been
chosen. Based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis of textual features and marked and
unmarked themes of 12 opinion articles (6 from each newspaper), this study aims to find out how
these two groups of professional writers organize their themes, into marked and unmarked ones and
what effects these organizations have on the audiences. The findings revealed that textual features
were present in both sets of data. The occurrences of marked and unmarked themes were not
significantly different. The findings revealed that thematization patterns can help the understanding
of the texts. The results also showed that marked themes have an impact on the audiences. The
results were relatively the same in the original texts and their translations.

Crime And Punishment And Hamlet
Fyodor Dostoevsky and William Shakespeare are well–known authors of their time. The two have
written numerous classics, including Crime and Punishment, and Hamlet, respectively. Through
writing these pieces of literature, Dostoevsky and Shakespeare were able to establish thematic
elements that convey human emotion and understanding. Their use of thought and over analysis is
able to express common human emotion of indecision and confusion, while their use of the thought
of existence allows for the reader to connect with the characters, and find ways to come to terms
with their existence on Earth.
A thematic element present in both Crime and Punishment and Hamlet is that of over analysis and
thought. In Crime and Punishment, on page seven when Raskolnikov is confronted by a drunk man
about his hat, Raskolnikov thinks about how obvious his hat is compared to the rest of his dress:
Yes, by hat is too noticeable ... It looks absurd and that makes it noticeable ... With my rags I ought
to wear a cap, any old pancake, but not this grotesque thing. Nobody wears hats like this, it would
be noticed a mile off, it would be remembered ... What matters is that people would remember it,
and that would give them a clue. For this business I should be as unnoticeable as possible ...
(Dostoevsky 7) Raskolnikov's meticulous analysis of his attire even before he commits the two
murders shows how analytical of his surroundings he is. Raskolnikov is also very analytical of his
actions. While out and

3.1 Data Collection
Primary and secondary are the two major forms of any particular study. Primary has unprocessed
and information which is not manipulated and it is gathered directly from the source whereas
secondary means a reliance on the already researched work which is available and has been
researched by numerous scholars and researchers. Both methods are used to gather the important
info for the use of exploratory study as in this case.
3.2 Primary data collection
Bryman and Bell (2007) said that to carry out a qualitative data then there are two methods used:
direct observation and conduction an interview. This approach always provides an analysis in detail
and elaborates the research. Creswell (2009) had this view that primary data is important and has a
great significance because it is always in a raw form and it is more authentic because it has been
collected directly from the source. So, for this study it was suggested to conduct primary data from
the students who are studying in UK and the method used for semi–structured interview.
The reason for using semi structured interview is that; researcher can easily edit the questions asked
in a semi–structured interview session before they are answered and the questions can be
manipulated which makes it more valuable and important for any research. To conduct an interview,
the queries are based on the idea to rely on the basic aim and objective of the field of the study and

The Pit And The Pendulum By Edgar Allen Poe
"...All sensations appeared swallowed up in a mad rushing of the soul into Hades. Then silence, and
stillness, night were the universe." This quote from "The Pit and the Pendulum" is an excellent
example of how Edgar Allen Poe is a master at using point of view, setting, and conflict to display
the thematic message of fear in his short stories. This example uses all three literary strategies. The
setting contributes to the theme of fear by stating that the soul was descending to Hades, the Greek
god of the underworld, or hell, a place that will almost definitely draw a fear response in the reader.
He uses conflict by having the reader infer that the story is about a dying person, and so on. He finds
unique ways to do this with all types of literary strategies, but most prominently with point of view,
setting and conflict. He especially uses point of view in a unique way, making the narrator either
mentally unstable or having some other unusual ailment. Therefore, after thorough analysis of both
"The Black Cat" and "The Pit and the Pendulum," it is clear that Edgar Allen Poe is a master at
using setting, conflict, and point of view to help display the unique thematic message of fear
throughout almost all of his literary works. Firstly, Poe uses setting to convey the theme of fear in
"The Black Cat" and "The Pit and the Pendulum". In "The Black Cat", the climax of the story takes
place in a cellar. "At length, for the third or fourth time, they descended into the cellar," The

Justice In The Crucible
The Crucible Demagoguery Often individuals over dramatize their opinion to convey their attitude.
Similarly, Danforth often acts extreme in his attempts to rid witchcraft from Salem when he says, "If
retaliation is your fear, know this– I [Danforth] should hang ten thousand that dares to rise against
the law" (Miller 129). Danforth displays demagoguery while he explains to Reverend Hale why the
executions must happen on schedule because he appeals to Hale's passionate fear of witchcraft.
Danforth's response to Hale works in the scene to further build the audience's perception of Danforth
as irritable and urgent, yet precise, and support his determination as Deputy Governor. However,
Danforth's determination often misguides his rationality. Furthermore, Danforth supports the
thematic topic of law in The Crucible and helps the reader understand the severity of justice Miller
conveys throughout the play. Danforth's role develops the play by illustrating the stubbornness of
authority in Salem during the witch trials. Hasty Generalization ... Show more content on

"How does having an offshore occupation impact the family dynamic?"
The aim of the study is to investigate whether or not having an offshore occupation has a detrimental
impact on the dynamic of the family, particularly in relation to the spouse and their children.
BACKGROUND
There appears to be a gap in the literature concerning the adaptions to families whilst the male role
figure is away for weeks at a time, despite major's changes that have occurred across the industry.
However, Parkes et al (2005) looked at the perceptions, attitudes and concerns of spouses of

However, Gibson (2012) believed that children are competent to act as informants regarding their
experiences. Yet, it is important to ensure there are no significant power differences between the
adults and the children. Moreover, it is imperative for the children to understand why they have been
asked to participate and aware that they are allowed to make their own decisions about participation,
hence why an age restriction has been implemented.
The participants will be collected using the purposive sampling method, in environments such as the
work place or social events. The purposive sampling technique was selected as it is an effective
method for collecting participants in qualitative studies. The technique is constructed to allow the
researcher to deliberately select specific persons for their research (Teddie and Yu 2007).

Holy Spirit, though uncircumcised, just as he had given it to us, who were circumcised, an evident
proof that, in the judgment of God, circumcision was no preparation to receive the Gospel of Christ.
The purification of the heart by the Holy Spirit should have been the main issue, and that alone
which could prepare the soul for a blessed immortality, and the Gentiles had received that without
circumcision. It was by their faith, not their works or actions that made them a part of the fellowship

Thematic Patterns In Hamlet
Thematic Patterns
(An Analysis of the Themes in Shakespeare's Hamlet Acts 1, 2, and 3) More often than not,
excellent authors incorporate subtle themes into their story lines. These themes can seems
nonexistent towards the beginning of a plot, but after careful study and examination of the literature,
a reader can find that there are in fact many main themes that are being revisited throughout the
work. These themes usually have multiple meanings and can add essential details to deepen the
meaning of the plot in its entirety. "As a system in the textual metafunction of language, the
Theme/Rheme options play a significant role in the creation of texture and structure which make
spoken and written texts comprehendible to listeners and readers. Thematic organization shows the
'method of development' of a text" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Ontology, says tradition, is the science of being as such" (Inwagen). In other words, ontology is the
study of one's being, or who or what you are. Bernardo boldly questions Francisco by saying,
"Who's there?" (Shakespeare). Francisco rebukes him by exclaiming, "Nay, answer me. Stand and
unfold yourself." (Shakespeare). With these first two lines of the entire play, the reader can already
infer that this is going to be about identification. Who people say they are versus who they actually
are is a monumental argument in this drama. Claudius, the new king of Denmark, cleverly lies to
everyone about his true being: a murderer. Another example is Hamlet. Hamlet acts as if he is going
insane for a majority of the play. However, he is very much in control of his wits and is just
pretending to be crazy in order to get what he wants. Event unfold as the play progresses and people
continue to lie and deceive others with false information about themselves. Ontology is a key factor
in the set up of events that

A Qualitative Study To Show How Other Affect Individual...

  • 1. A Qualitative Study to Show How Other Affect Individual... A qualitative study to show how other affect individual development, using thematic analysis. ABSTRACT This study will examine the ways that adults construct their own attachment experiences and relationships along and how others influence these attachments and their development. The chosen method for data collection was interviews as they provide full and detailed data for thematic analysis. Other researchers studying within the social constructionist perspective with a main focus on attachment found that attachment relationships are a central part of our lives, which can stem from childhood experiences through to later adult life. There is also some evidence to suggest environment influences an individual. Thematic analysis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This type of interview allows room for discussion and the opportunity to speak freely in answer to the questions giving the participant a more relaxed feeling of a conversation not an interview. The interview was videotaped as well as transcribed (see appendix one for full transcript) this provides the researcher with two forms of data each of which would not give the complete picture on their own. The participant was a 50 year old single British woman which ha been provided by the Open University, who gained the consent of the participant for the materials to be used. The participant was fully briefed before the interview and debriefed after the interview, the interviewer also informed the participant that she had the right to withdraw from the research at any point and also asks for the consent form to be read and signed. When the interview had been completed thematic analysis was carried out, re–watching the videotape with the transcript to first make descriptions of what is going on, before making interpretations of the meanings presented and finally identifying any recurrent themes or ides throughout the ... • 3. Data Quality As Crime And Crime In our continuing state of shrinking government operating budgets, crime scientists and crime analysts need to consider the interrelatedness of spatial and temporal shifts in crime patterns when creating, tracking, and handling crime hot spots. Many studies indicate that crimes are clustered at the neighborhood level, but the entire neighborhood is rarely (if ever) criminogenic and only specific parts of neighborhoods contain high concentrations of crime CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Introduction The study of crime traditionally involved disciples such as psychology and sociology (George, 1978) but crime has always had an inherent geographic quality as crimes will always be linked to a geographical location (Chainey and Radcliff, ... Then finally looking at the study area of the District of Columbia (Washington D.C.), identifying why this area is one of Americas problem crime areas. 2.2 History of GIS and Crime The use of GIS in crime has been around for centuries with Dent (2000) tracing the mapping of crime back to 1829, when Adriano Balbi and André Michel Guerry created choropleth maps showing the relationship between violent and property crimes with education levels. As time went on sociologists from the Chicago School, Shaw and McKay (1931) began to map crimes by their XY coordinates to show the geographic location to understand the importance of the crime location. In the 1980's the reduction in price of computers meant it became more cost effective for GIS Applications (Longley et al, 2011). With the introduction of the new GIS technologies, the ability to use police records within the GIS applications allowed for crime and intelligence analysis (Radcliff, 2004). These days the advancements in technology and the reductions in cost has resulted in GIS applications moving from the backroom computer analysis tool to be used by almost every discipline, from criminology to healthcare, natural resources to economics. These advancements have not just been in the applications but also in the science behind them. This has allowed for more advanced analysis, which use well known mathematical models within their calculations, such as spatial statistics and the use of the Getis–Ordi ... • 5. The Pershkins Model 4. RESEARCH DESIGN This project adopts a qualitative interpretive methodology. In particular, the project follows the Pershkins model for qualitative research (Yin. K, p136, 2015). Using the Pershkins model, the projects analyses qualitative data from South Parks 19th season. This is done using various different research techniques such as visual methods, close readings, textual analysis and composition analysis. The project follows an ethnographic approach to research, following Spradley's approach to ethnography. The project shows a body of knowledge, including, theory, research and recounts (Liamputtong. P, 148, 2009). The main sample set is South Parks 19th season. The data is analysed by using both visual methods and textual methods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Analysis of South Parks 19th season will be conducted to see how the show adapted to political correctness. This is done by using a combination of content analysis, discourse analysis and close readings. Gibbs (2012) theory of thematic categorizing & analysis of narrative is used to analyse the episodes of South Park. Gibbs theory on metaphors in particular will be used (Gibbs, p.4, 2012). Semiotics are closely analysed, as the symbolic signs are the crux of the data. Chandler's (2017) guide to semiotic analyse is implemented throughout the analysis. 5. FINDINGS South Park's 19th season parodies all facets of PC culture. South Park critiques the function of PC culture, how it's used by our society and how it affects different demographics. In episode 1 'Stunning and Brave' South Park critique political correctness with the constant gag of Caitlyn Jenner running over someone in her car, with the constant gag of Caitlyn Jenner being a brave and beautiful person. During her transition to female it was seen a politically incorrect to suggest that what she was doing was not brave and extraordinary. • 7. Discuss Why Scale And Resolution Are Important For Your... Concepts and Philosophies Discuss why scale and resolution are important for your dissertation research Scale can be a confusing definition in geography with its multiple referents. "Scale is about size, either relative or absolute, and involves a fundamental set of issues in geography. Scale primarily concerns space in geography. However, the domains of temporal and thematic scale are also important to geographers. Temporal scale deals with the size of time units, thematic scale with the grouping of entities or attributes such as people or weather variables. Whether spatial, temporal, or thematic, scale in fact has several meanings in geography." (Montello, 2001) .The definition of resolution on the other hand is more straight ... The problem with this is that generalisations made at one level or scale does not always hold at other scales. Sampling can be done at the regional scale with sampling the sediment load at mouth of river to estimate catchment erosion. Scale and resolution are very important for dissertation research as they help monitor the environment via measuring cross sections with stratigraphic logging, this is not trying to control realist but still interfering. An act of measurement is always considered an act of intervention. There is less control over variables in final based experiments such as erosion plots, but still want to replicate variability present in reality. However there are scaling issues – strict scaling of materials and forces cannot be applied. Experiments (laboratory and numerical) are the most extreme form of intervention: Selected variables and relations Controlled and maintained Magnitude and frequency compared to real world The implications of reality, are to provide "what if" scenarios where manipulation of reality at sufficient scale is not possible. This study had aimed discern more information about the perspectives of college–age smokers. Studies are done in subjugation of smokers to understand what may influence this unhealthy behavior, as in all psychology: understanding the root and trigger of a problem may bring the solution. This study has specifically focused on the college–age population of smokers in an aim to understand the cause and cessation of smoking cigarettes. In result, the study has concluded that college–age smokers are in their prime to be influenced by their environment into either picking up smoking as a habit or putting it down. The study had strong uses of qualitative questioning in the interviews, which allowed for adequate descriptive responses to be taken. However, one of the weakness of this study would be the limited sample size. The subjects in question of this study is the smoking habit of 40 undergraduates in American universities. • 16. Albert Camus' The Myth of Sisyphus Essays Albert Camus' The Myth of Sisyphus Albert Camus' essay, 'The Myth Of Sisyphus' is an insightful analysis of the classic work, 'The Myth Of Sisyphus'. In some regards Camus' view of Sisyphus can seem quite accurate and in tune with the original text, but based on Camus' interpretation of the justness of Sisyphus' punishment, it is clear that the writer has some different ideas as well. Camus concludes that this punishment does not have the effect the Gods had intended, and ultimately the tragic hero must be seen as being 'happy'. This is his greatest departure from the intent of the original myth wherein the reader is left with the feeling that Sisyphus' punishment can be seen as appropriate and just. As his punishment for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the extent of Sisyphus? punishment is only described in the original story by a single sentence, Camus takes great pains in describing the psychological effects it has on Sisyphus, and the mental state he must be in to endure such an ordeal. In describing this, Camus focuses on the point at which Sisyphus makes his decent back to gather his great rock. It is at this point that Camus makes clear as to why he considers Sisyphus an ?absurd hero?. Assuming that this punishment can only be considered tragic if Sisyphus becomes conscious of it, Camus points out that it is during this descent that our main character becomes aware of his awful state, and in doing so becomes, ?superior to his fate. He is stronger than his rock.? Camus suggests that Sisyphus is at ease with this punishment because in this ?absurd? universe, man?s fate is the only thing that can be shaped by man, and in doing so, that fate belongs to man. Sisyphus? rock belongs to him. If it is possible to see Sisyphus as conscious during his descent, then it is surely possible that he is aware of his predicament during his grueling ascent as well. Is Sisyphus not ?conscious? of the horrible punishment that he has been handed by the Gods as he makes his way up the hill with his rock? It is his ascent that allows the reader of the original story to remember what this act is supposed to represent, and it is the ascent that Camus, although he describes it ... The model Victorian woman is one who does not even have these basic rights. She is expected to devote her entire existence to her family and run the household that her husband owns. This ideal woman is supposed to have minimal care for her own ideas, curiosities, and emotions; leaving her unable to express her creativity or intellect. Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour" discusses the "awakening," the realization of her freedom and potential to express herself, of the main character, Louise Mallard. Mrs. Mallard has been repressed by her husband for the greater part of their marriage, therefore leaving her bereft of expression and personal enjoyment, as an ideal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The quintessence of irony within the story is Louise's death after discovering her presumably dead husband is alive, which would perpetuate her miserable life. When Brently returns home, Louise, dumbstruck at this inexplicable event, has a heart attack and dies. Her extreme reaction to Brently's startling arrival proves that she is extremely distraught at his appearance; if she felt any less passionately about her newfound freedom she would have still been alive. Assuming that Louise passed due to the joyous surprise, doctors proclaimed that, "she had died of heart disease––of the joy that kills" (Chopin par. 20). This statement contradicts the reality of the situation – her newfound feelings of freedom obtained through her awakening are seized from her instantaneously, therefore leaving her in distress. Unlike most married women, who would be incredibly thankful and astonished to have their husband "back from the grave," she was perturbed that her husband returns alive because the free life that she looked forward to was brutally taken away from her in her eyes. The meticulous and unique description of the last few minutes of Louise's life compliment the irony of her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These truths are conflict, love, communication, timing, and reputation. Conflict is the most important truth focused on in Romeo and Juliet. Act three emphasizes conflict more so than any of the other acts. Shakespeare conveyed the truth of conflict in Romeo and Juliet to reveal the impact conflict has in daily life. The role conflict plays in daily life is revealed through Mercutio being killed, Tybalt being killed in retribution, and the essay by Romeo and Juliet has a central focus on conflict. Bowling wrote, "This theme often comes out in the form of paradox, since the characters are constantly being shocked and surprised that one quality of a thing is often in sharp disagreement with some other quality (Bowling)." Bowling agrees with the analysis of Romeo and Juliet having a central focus on conflict. Throughout the play there are conflicting meanings often confuse the reader as well as the characters. These paradoxes are included to show the profound effect of conflict within communication. Without conflict, which is a disagreement between people or options, there would be no complexity. The Thematic Framework of Romeo and Juliet continues to focus on the complexity of the word choice in Romeo and Juliet. Given that the research problem in this report is ambiguous, the basic research method adopted is exploratory research. Zikmund, Ward, Lowe, Winzar and Babin (2011), suggest that exploratory research is not intended to provide conclusive evidence and is conducted with the expectation that subsequent research will be required to provide such conclusive evidence. Thus, exploratory research is the foundation of the research process which will lead to descriptive research, and maybe causal research. There are many exploratory methods that can be used to conduct research. These include field studies, action research, depth interviews, focus groups and desk research. This exploratory research utilised one qualitative method to collect data, which will help gain an insight of the research problem before further research is performed. The method chosen was 'in–depth interviews' which are relatively unstructured and extensive interviews in which the interviewer asks many questions and probes for in–depth answers (Zikmund, Ward, Lowe, Winzar, & Babin; 2011). Alfred Prufrock The five–line interlude ending on "the floors of silent seas" forms an encapsulated version of the remainder of the poem, in which the frustrated effort to establish purposive discourse leads once again to withdrawal downward and inward to a silent world of instinctual being. A return to images of distension and distracting sensuality provokes a final impulse toward violent imposition of the will––"to force the moment to its crisis"––which ends, like previous thoughts of disturbing the universe, in ruthless self–mockery. The image of decapitation parodies the theme of disconnected being and provides for at least a negative definition of the self: "I am no prophet." By this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It sets these infinitives against present participles, which are constantly muttering, sprawling, rubbing, scuttling, and settling. Finally, it opposes these transitive verbs to intransitive verbs which lie, linger, malinger, lean, curl, trail, wrap, slip, and sleep. A relative lack of modifiers and the absence of plural forms further distinguishes the passage cited above. By contrast the language of disordered experience, of imprecision and aimlessness, abounds in modifiers and plurals: restless nights, one–night cheap hotels, visions and revisions, the sunsets and the dooryards, and the sprinkled streets. The structure of the imagery at this point in the poem corresponds to the thematic role played by linguistic form. To have "bitten off" the matter, in addition to its hint of blunt force, would constitute a positive reaction against endlessly idle talk; squeezing the universe into a ball would counteract the world's tendency to fall apart and to spread itself out like yellow fog; finally, the act of rolling it toward some overwhelming question at least imparts direction to the movement of the universe, even if the actual destination, like the question, remains unclear. An Investigation into Response to Disaster Using Qualitative Methods Abstract This study investigated the accounts of individuals involved in the London underground bombings in 2005. Throughout this investigation, thematic analysis was conducted on six eyewitness accounts, highlighting their feelings and actions, which came about as a result of the incident. From these accounts I obtained 4 key themes, which were consistent components of the six accounts. Evidently, I found that the two most common themes were 'helping behaviour' and the 'panic' myth. This was rather unexpected, as initially, I expected to find irrational and helpless behaviour, due to the panic and stress of being trapped in a bombed underground. To conclude, the investigation illuminated the concept of helping others before helping ones self. Thus, contradicting the concept of survival of the fittest, as in this case the 'fittest' were those who took it upon themselves to assist other passengers in need. Therefore, highlighting the power of empathy which was risen with experiencing the disaster. • 45. Film Analysis Of The Graduate And Annie Hall Before the 1960s there were plenty of films made. In the 1950s things began to change for, in my opinion, the better. It started with a new form of acting called method acting that encouraged improvisation. This was key because it gave actors more control over their characters which allowed for more realistic representations of characters allowing audiences to connect better to the film. Having more control over a character is something that I found vital because it adds an even deeper element to the film as a whole. Another important thing added in the 1950s was the addition of subject matters and themes that focused on ordinary individuals. This was important again because it added another element to the films that audiences could connect to. In the 1960s there was even more change to the film industry. For example, there was a new focus on youth, with psychological character studies of offbeat anti–heroes. More explicit presentation of sexuality, violence and drug use on screen. Rebellion vs. the American mainstream, with new values and points of view. Self– conscious use of cinematic effects, reflecting European influence and new twists on old film genre. These new changes can be seen in cinematic and thematic elements in films including "The Graduate" and "Annie Hall." To start this film analysis, we'll start with "The Graduate" directed by Mike Nichols. Cinematically there were a lot of things added in this film that shows these new features added to films in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this paper, we aim to fill what we, as researchers and teachers in qualitative psychology, have experienced as a current gap: the absence of a paper which adequately outlines the theory, application, and evaluation of thematic analysis, and one which does so in a way accessible to students and those not particularly familiar with qualitative research. 1 That is, we aim to write a paper which will be useful as both a teaching and research tool in qualitative psychology. Therefore, in this paper we discuss theory and method for thematic analysis, and clarify the similarities and differences between different approaches that share features in common with a thematic approach. Qualitative approaches are incredibly diverse, complex and nuanced (Holloway & Todres, 2003), and thematic analysis should be seen as a foundational method for qualitative analysis. It is the first qualitative method of analysis that researchers should learn, as it provides core skills that will be useful for conducting many other forms of qualitative analysis. Indeed, Holloway and Todres (2003: 347) identify "thematizing meanings" as one of a few shared generic skills across qualitative analysis.2 For this reason, Boyatzis (1998) characterises it not as a specific method but as a tool to use across different methods. • 49. The Thematic Concept Of Fear In Beowulf And Gilgamesh Overall Introduction: For years, literature has been used to teach us important morals and life lessons. These life lessons are often universal in nature. This means that no matter what age, gender, or status a person is, anyone can relate to the theme being discussed. For this reason they are called universal themes. Non– universal themes are themes that are specific to the story being told, but are not considered universally understood. The following demonstrates that Beowulf and Gilgamesh both have the same universal thematic statement concept of fear in addition to a multiple non–universal themes throughout them. Thematic Discussion When looking at the universal theme Gilgamesh and Beowulf, the thematic concept is fear. The thematic statement for this universal theme would be: In literature, as well as in real life, man often my come up against someone or something he fears and then must decide whether or not they will act in cowardly or courageous way . The thematic concept for Beowulf that is a non universal theme would be political generosity. The thematic statement would be that: In Beowulf, one can see how generosity and hospitality were considered very important to the Danish culture. However, this not considered a universal theme, because although generosity and hospitality may have been considered very important attributes at the time Beowulf was written, not every culture of the time considered these nicetes to be of the highest importance. • 55. The Thematic Elements Of William Shakespeare 's Hamlet Nobility or shame The thematic elements found throughout many of William Shakespeare's plays are numerous. Such themes further develop the plot of the story and help explain a universal purpose the story has. Imagination seeps through every crevice in the reader's mind as to what a theme can be alluding to. Throughout many of Shakespeare's written works, it can be noted that death, in particular suicide, is a relevant and ongoing theme that Shakespeare gives way to. A prime example is that of the well– known tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare does not stop at the tragedy of the star crossed lovers, but further goes on to write several more tragedies that deal with suicide such as: Macbeth, Julius Caesar, Othello, and Hamlet. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the rise of the Renaissance era, the motto "death before dishonor" was implanted in many courtly ideals. Many chose to die than to have dishonor upon their name. It would be a burden that they would live with for the rest of their lives if their name was put to shame. Suicide was given the bad shoulder during this time, but many writers shined a light on it that further enhanced a work of literature. Shakespeare was one of the many writers that shined a light within the theme of suicide. Suicide in his works further enhanced the development of the story. This is because suicide is a recurring theme that gives way to understand the cultural impact that comes with being a mortal. Shakespeare opens the window to this developing theme that is shunned upon by society. In order to understand why suicide is a key theme that further develops a story, one has to understand the social repercussions that suicide holds during that time. In Shakespeare's Hamlet it can be noted that even though Hamlet did not go through with contemplated suicide, he still thought about whether he should go through the difficulties of life and keep on suffering. For instance, Shakespeare writes "and by opposing end them" (page.127, line 68). By opposing the Christian moral views, he knows and values, Hamlet knows that suicide will end all his troubles and he will be at peace. Hamlet decides not to partake in such action. This further ... Valerie and her week of wonders (1970) is a classical movie that weaves all aspects of entertainment facets to elicit an emotive, thought to provoke and illustrative themes of a spiritualistic society. The aspects that creatively intertwine together to bring out the entire movie include genres, characters, music, symbolism, sound effects and special effects (Limpscomb 41). The interest of our discussion is how the music applied as an aesthetic accompaniment brings out: the sensational, the narrative progression, and a bridge from one thematic aspect to another. A sneak view of the key themes elicited musically is spiritualism, morality, and feminism (Adamscovell 2). The clearest theme illustrated musically is religion: a spiritual dispensation that plays the largest role depicting the interrelationship between the contemporary secular life and the spiritual realms (Limpscomb 22). From the onset of the movie, the accompanying music hints a theology–based motive of the character's personality. The seductive moves depicted by the priest towards her ... • 59. Collecting Qualitative Data Paper PART 1 Collecting Qualitative Data Research truly is essential to the success of any marketing campaign or process and can greatly contribute to the success of a product, service or brand in the marketplace. Market research can help to determine risks and opportunities within the market, and can provide a greater depth of understanding of consumers and the target audience. Market research helps to define and solve research 'problems' and this is extremely beneficial to any business or organisation (Burns & Bush, 2003). By having consumer insight because of market research, marketers are able to promote a product to the true relevant target market, rather than wasting time and money promoting to the whole marketplace. There are two main methods of market research, being qualitative research and quantitative research. Both of these methods have benefits and can be used in conjunction, but for the best results one method of data collection is often used. Quantitative data focuses on a numerical approach to data collection via the use of statistics and information taken from surveys and census data. Qualitative data however focuses on gathering information and exploratory research through observations and interviews. The main approaches to collecting this type of data are experience or expert surveys, focus groups, and in–depth interviews (Diekroger, 2014). • 63. Qualitative Vs. Qualitative Analysis Design: The study will be done through qualitative line of inquiry. Qualitative data provides a prosperous, thorough picture to be built up about why people act in certain ways, and their feelings about these actions, which provides the researcher with a clear understanding of the data. Qualitative data is also useful for studying limited data in–depth; for the purpose of this study to be accomplished, the data needs to be studied in–depth. Thematizing meanings is one of few shared generic skills across qualitative analysis (Holloway and Todres, 2003). The epistemological position of qualitative research is interpretivist and this will be particularly helpful in attempting to understand the struggles faced by female ex–offenders when they re–enter society and how they move past this to get back on their feet (Bryman, 2012). Due to the nature of the research, secondary data analysis will be employed through thematic analysis. Thematic analysis will be particularly useful in understanding how the women desist from crime to sort out their lives and move on from a life of crime "focuses on identifiable themes and patterns of living and talk and aims to generate descriptions of strategies and behaviours" (Hammersmith and Atkinson, 1995). In addition, it will also assist in understanding how prison life affects women's behaviour when they are released to enter back into society. This paper examines thematization strategies in English opinion articles written by American and Iranian journalists. To this end, two of the leading newspapers in the United States and Iran, The New York Times and Tehran Times, have been chosen. Based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis of textual features and marked and unmarked themes of 12 opinion articles (6 from each newspaper), this study aims to find out how these two groups of professional writers organize their themes, into marked and unmarked ones and what effects these organizations have on the audiences. The findings revealed that textual features were present in both sets of data. The occurrences of marked and unmarked themes were not significantly different. The findings revealed that thematization patterns can help the understanding of the texts. The results also showed that marked themes have an impact on the audiences. The results were relatively the same in the original texts and their translations. Keywords: Thematization Patterns; Marked Theme; Unmarked Theme; Theme and Rheme; Systemic Functional Grammar. 1. • 67. Crime And Punishment And Hamlet Fyodor Dostoevsky and William Shakespeare are well–known authors of their time. The two have written numerous classics, including Crime and Punishment, and Hamlet, respectively. Through writing these pieces of literature, Dostoevsky and Shakespeare were able to establish thematic elements that convey human emotion and understanding. Their use of thought and over analysis is able to express common human emotion of indecision and confusion, while their use of the thought of existence allows for the reader to connect with the characters, and find ways to come to terms with their existence on Earth. A thematic element present in both Crime and Punishment and Hamlet is that of over analysis and thought. In Crime and Punishment, on page seven when Raskolnikov is confronted by a drunk man about his hat, Raskolnikov thinks about how obvious his hat is compared to the rest of his dress: Yes, by hat is too noticeable ... It looks absurd and that makes it noticeable ... With my rags I ought to wear a cap, any old pancake, but not this grotesque thing. Nobody wears hats like this, it would be noticed a mile off, it would be remembered ... What matters is that people would remember it, and that would give them a clue. For this business I should be as unnoticeable as possible ... Primary has unprocessed and information which is not manipulated and it is gathered directly from the source whereas secondary means a reliance on the already researched work which is available and has been researched by numerous scholars and researchers. Both methods are used to gather the important info for the use of exploratory study as in this case. 3.2 Primary data collection Bryman and Bell (2007) said that to carry out a qualitative data then there are two methods used: direct observation and conduction an interview. This approach always provides an analysis in detail and elaborates the research. Creswell (2009) had this view that primary data is important and has a great significance because it is always in a raw form and it is more authentic because it has been collected directly from the source. So, for this study it was suggested to conduct primary data from the students who are studying in UK and the method used for semi–structured interview. The reason for using semi structured interview is that; researcher can easily edit the questions asked in a semi–structured interview session before they are answered and the questions can be manipulated which makes it more valuable and important for any research. • 73. The Pit And The Pendulum By Edgar Allen Poe "...All sensations appeared swallowed up in a mad rushing of the soul into Hades. Then silence, and stillness, night were the universe." This quote from "The Pit and the Pendulum" is an excellent example of how Edgar Allen Poe is a master at using point of view, setting, and conflict to display the thematic message of fear in his short stories. This example uses all three literary strategies. The setting contributes to the theme of fear by stating that the soul was descending to Hades, the Greek god of the underworld, or hell, a place that will almost definitely draw a fear response in the reader. He uses conflict by having the reader infer that the story is about a dying person, and so on. He finds unique ways to do this with all types of literary strategies, but most prominently with point of view, setting and conflict. He especially uses point of view in a unique way, making the narrator either mentally unstable or having some other unusual ailment. Therefore, after thorough analysis of both "The Black Cat" and "The Pit and the Pendulum," it is clear that Edgar Allen Poe is a master at using setting, conflict, and point of view to help display the unique thematic message of fear throughout almost all of his literary works. Firstly, Poe uses setting to convey the theme of fear in "The Black Cat" and "The Pit and the Pendulum". In "The Black Cat", the climax of the story takes place in a cellar. "At length, for the third or fourth time, they descended into the cellar," The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Justice In The Crucible The Crucible Demagoguery Often individuals over dramatize their opinion to convey their attitude. Similarly, Danforth often acts extreme in his attempts to rid witchcraft from Salem when he says, "If retaliation is your fear, know this– I [Danforth] should hang ten thousand that dares to rise against the law" (Miller 129). Danforth displays demagoguery while he explains to Reverend Hale why the executions must happen on schedule because he appeals to Hale's passionate fear of witchcraft. Danforth's response to Hale works in the scene to further build the audience's perception of Danforth as irritable and urgent, yet precise, and support his determination as Deputy Governor. However, Danforth's determination often misguides his rationality. Furthermore, Danforth supports the thematic topic of law in The Crucible and helps the reader understand the severity of justice Miller conveys throughout the play. Danforth's role develops the play by illustrating the stubbornness of authority in Salem during the witch trials. Hasty Generalization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mrs. Putnam moves the scene along when she acts illogical, yet persuades others to believe her– setting up the plot for the rest of the play. She wants to believe in the supernatural to rationalize her children's death, so she quickly chooses witchcraft as the cause for the strange recent occurrences.
