I remember the very day that I became colored. Up to my thirteenth year I lived in the little Negro town of Eatonville, Florida. It is exclusively a
colored town. The only white people I knew passed through the town going to or coming from Orlando. The native whites rode dusty horses, the
Northern tourists chugged down the sandy village road in automobiles. The town knew the Southerners and never stopped cane chewing when they

"Hills Like White Elephants" By Ernest Hemmingway is an interesting piece that consists entirely of an odd conversation between two people sitting
at a train station in Spain, having drinks while they wait on their ride. The couple do not have names, just "The American" and "The Girl" who is also
called "Jig" a time or two by The American. Hemmingway uses these characters and their actions along with the setting and symbolism to paint a
beautiful picture of an untruthful relationship and a secretive "Operation" that brings out the true feelings between an unknown couple. The point of
view of this piece is told from the third person. Almost third person limited as we never get to hear the actual thoughts of any of the characters, making

or objects. Each and every person will experience this challenge, sometimes it's hardly noticeable, but at times its so noticeable it becomes extremely

Resisting stereotypes can be difficult and can make a situation either positive or negative. For example, when a person gets involved in a stereotype

. Syl is trying to control the emotions in the discussion by staying consistent and focusing on completing the project efficiently. Therefore, she is trying
to convince Daniel that the proposed solution is fair by consistently stating this is about the project not his sexual orientation. In doing so, she is trying
to avoid the feelings of inequality by means of having one set of rules for this person and a different set for another, in which favoritism might be

I feel the author has over simplified the issues in some of his views and picked some extreme examples in this chapter.
According to the author, American churches with their theology have promoted an "alternate reality" which has no connection to the real world. People
view Christianity as a set of instructions for the invisible "heavenly" realm but not for the visible, physical world.
How Churches Create Alternate Realities
Doug Murren really gets on his "soapbox" in this section. He believes there is a theology that teaches, "...if they "confess" properly, avoid doctors,

The Song I Feel Excitement
When listening to the song I feel excitement, it brings forth a sense of joy and of nostalgia from my youth. As a girl scout and a daughter of a
firefighter I attended many parades and festivals. These were generally in small American towns during the summer so patriotic songs were
prevalent. Upon listening to the words now I gather a sense of pride, of national strength and a almost uncontrollable urge to call to arms so to
speak for the ideals I support. That's a figurative call to arms but still a desire to act and not sit idly by doing little to farther the cause. Whatever
the cause may be, in these times there are many. . The song is inspiring to say the least. The words when reading them without the music solidify
the story Howe intended to express. Words like mighty swift sword bring to mind the archangel Michael and his battle against Satan in the book of
Revelations. The parallels the South had with Satan cannot be missed. The lyrics are the most intriguing aspect of the song. Julia Ward Howe
penned them quickly and completely in just one sitting. That is impressive to be so creative. Written in the early dawn hours they detail the moral
battle that was raging in the Unites States and it paints the abolitionist as a solider of God fighting to free the slaves of the south. It speaks of God's
wrath against the south and how he will crush the serpent with his heel. The lyrics are plain; Howe did not use loquacious or embellished words. She
wanted the words to be

The Book ' If You Feel Happy '
In the book, it states many different ideas and explanations for why some people can be generally happier than others. This can all be based on their
affluence, well–being, materials, and overall health of their state of mind.
Although some people do not have as many riches as others, they could be happier. This could be because of the person wears rose colored glasses
towards the world. They could tell themselves that they are happy–despite misery. This could, in turn, let them push their problems away. Telling
themselves they are happy in fact can be healthier for their state of mind. In the book it states, '"If you feel happy," writes research psychologist
Johnathon Freedman, "you are happy–that's all we mean by the term (Freedman)."' What he means by this is, despite how life treats us or how many
times it runs us into the ground, if we tell ourselves that we are happy, we can live in happiness. We can live with an upbeat attitude in the world
instead of living in a constant depression and stressed state. How we live our life is all based on our choices. Yes money can help–and could probably
help out a lot more if some had more money than what we have now–it all is based on YOU. Everyone nowadays make more money than the average
