Food Fraud Is A Serious Issue
1. Introduction Food fraud is a serious issue which has come under increased scrutiny as a potential
food safety and public health concern in recent years (Spink and Moyer 2011). Regulators, food
producers, retailers, and consumers all have an interest in safeguarding foods and ensuring they are
safe, genuine, and of the highest quality. Nevertheless, food fraud has been conducted since ancient
times, with evidence of laws dating back to Roman times regarding the adulteration of wine,
through the addition of sweeteners and coloring agents, or dilution with water. At that time the scale
of fraud was much more limited to a smaller geographical region (Armstrong 2009; Spink and
Moyer 2011). Because of the growth and increasing complexity of the modern global food supply
systems, this has substantially heightened the risk of food fraud to include an entire global
population, therefore having a major impact on the ability to protect consumer health (Moore and
others 2012). Food fraud is a broader term than adulteration (Figure 1). An adulterated food is one
which may be spoiled or intentionally adulterated with an adulterant– a substance which has been
added illegally) (Spink and Moyer 2011). Virtually all foods have the potential to be adulterated, but
those that are more expensive or are produced under changeable weather and harvesting conditions
are especially vulnerable (Sharma and Paradakar 2010). Economically motivated adulteration is a
subcategory of food fraud and is a

An Analysis of Masculinity in Anne Brontë’s The Tenant of...
In Anne Brontë's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Arthur Huntington, Helen's husband and Arthur's
father, is presented as an alcoholic, disgraceful, narcissistic "gentleman" (Brontë 311). Despite
Helen's efforts to shelter their son, Arthur, from the corrupted masculinity embodied by Huntington
and his friends, Huntington encourages Arthur's "manly accomplishments" that mirror his own
character, such as excessive drinking, swearing, and selfishness (297). For fear of Arthur becoming
"a curse to others and himself", like his father, Helen has acquitted herself to prepare for an escape;
however, Huntington seizes her journal which reveal her plans (203). In this passage Mr. Huntington
is not only devaluing aspect of his corrupted masculinity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although Helen's concerns with Huntington's alcoholism have always been towards his disgraceful
actions, Huntington is acknowledging the negative effects that alcohol can have for the first time in
the novel.
Although Huntington presents intoxication as trivial to him, he does not find the actions and
behaviors he does under it as accountable for humiliation of his character. Instead, Huntington
reveals, in this passage, that his level of disgrace depends on external sources; the actions of Helen
and his son have the ability to disgrace him, where as his own do not. Helen describes the time of
Huntington's illness and his later drunken actions at Grassdale as self–disgracing actions.
Huntington, according to Helen towards his alcoholism, has "shamefully wronged [himself], body
and soul" (217), but Huntington argues that he has "lived" (218). Helen continues to argue that
Huntington's disgraced character is due to "his injustice, his selfishness and hopeless depravity"
(226). Despite Helen's attempts to illuminate Huntington to the "crime of over indulgence",
Huntington refuses to perceive it as shameful (191). Yet, when Helen purposes a separation after her
discovery of the affair Huntington is having with Lady Lowborough, he refuses for fear of being
disgraced. His image in society and "the old gossips in the neighbourhood" are, to Huntington, able
to humiliate him (273).

Effects Of Dating On Teenagers
How can dating at a young age affect a teenager?
Dating is a part of life. 35% of teens have had some type of experience with dating or being in a
relationship ("About Us"). The older a teenager becomes, the more likely they will begin to date.
Majority of the time, teens will date their fellow peers at school. Throughout the years, dating has
changed tremendously. Dating too early can be dangerous in some cases whereas it can physically
affect a person which may lead to that person being mentally affected as well. Although dating as a
teen may have some negative effects, it also can be positive. Teen dating can promote fast maturity.
It also gives teens the opportunity to learn how to interact with the opposite sex appropriately also
allowing them to figure themselves out. Dating is a part of life. At some point, most of us will
experience it. Throughout the years, dating has changed tremendously. Knowing the appropriate age
to date is extremely important. Teen dating has positive impacts like fast maturation and it allows a
teen to discover them selves. Dating involves communication, responsibility, and loyalty. All teens
go through their maturation stages during their years of high school. The most important part of
maturation is puberty. Puberty is the process of changes that teens experience usually in middle
school to initiate their transition into adulthood. In this generation, teens are exposed to more at a
younger age causing the maturation process to speed up.

The Contrast Between the Daily Mail and the Independent...
The Contrast Between the Daily Mail and the Independent Newspapers need to aim at a specific
corner of the market to be successful. The main reason for this is that if you have a readership
consisting of a specific class or type of people eg. Middle class business men. Then advertisers who
want to appeal to that specific audience will use that paper for their advert and the paper can obtain
large profits from adverts and the advertisers can sell lots of products. Therefore the paper needs to
know the readers status so it can tell the advertisers what kind of people they could reach by
advertising with them. Whereas the Mail doesn't put adverts on the front page (as there is limited
space), the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also uses the symbol of an eagle which conveys an image of class and elegance as well as wisdom
and authority as the eagle is the top of its food chain. The headlines of these two papers differ vastly
as they are trying to achieve different aims. The Mail's headline of 'THE BLAIR MUTINY' was
designed to give a dramatic look to the page as it is in a huge, bold text. It is also a WOB (white on
black) which is only used when it is a serious and important issue. It uses the word 'Mutiny' which
adds lots of stress to the headline as it is a powerful word that has a dramatic. The use of 'Blair
Mutiny' is clever as it mimics 'The Cain Mutiny' which was when the crew of Cain's ship mutinied,
just like now as Blair's 'crew', the cabinet are revolting. The Independents headline of 'Short faces
the sack over act of treachery' is much less in your face as it is printed in a much smaller print than
the Mail's and also it isn't in bold. Unlike the Mail the independent haven't used WOB (white on
black) which gives it a lower profile. The use of the word 'treachery' gives it more drama and
emphasis. Although it is obvious to see that this paper is not looking to attract readers by impact and
dramatic looks, it is more aiming at people that will read it for the

Anne Bronte's The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall
Anne Bronte makes a bold statement of rebellion against the typically accepted yet deplorable
behavior of Victorian males in her book "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall." In her novel, Helen
Huntingdon breaks the rules of Victorian society with punishable offenses; such as, scandalously
escaping from her abusive and philandering husband, refusing his demands for custody and fleeing
with their only child, and absconding with much of her personal property. Helen's imprudent
decision to marry Arthur Huntingdon is uncharacteristic of Bronte's heroine; however, rectitude and
integrity eventually lead her to happiness. The domestic and social criticism of Helen's husband,
Arthur Huntingdon and his perfidious ways, is pitted against the ideals of loyalty and integrity found
in Helen's honorable neighbor, Gilbert Markham, when she flees to Wildfell Hall. Bronte, utilizes
these characters to incite the need for social reformation with fresh inclusion of the redeeming
values of biblical virtues. Bronte unremittingly presents the virtues of Christian values through her
protagonist, Helen Huntingdon. Our initial realization of Helen's predicament is when she decides to
marry Arthur Huntingdon against the admonition of her aunt who raised her following her mother's
premature death. Helen once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Arthur to follow his father's love for alcohol and foul language, that Helen resolves to forsake her
marriage vows. Helen explains in a letter to her aunt that she will "submit no longer" because of her
"duty to her son" and would "commend her cause to God" (Bronte

reached the 1 million annual barrel mark in 1949. Phillip Morris Companies Inc. purchased Miller in
1970 and Miller created the first light beer distributed nationally in 1975. Miller Lite launched

In 1988, Miller purchased Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company and allowed it to run as a wholly

one of the largest brewing companies in the world, called SABMiller. (MillerCoors LLC, 2011)
Coors started when Adolph Coors came to America in 1873, as a stowaway on a ship, and opened
The Golden Brewery in Colorado with a partner, whom he later bought out in 1880. In 1884, Coors

Water And Water : An Essential Constituent Of The Life On...
Water is a transparent fluid that makes up the bodies of water on the planet Earth and is a major vital
constituent of the life on Earth. Water covers 71% of Earth's surface, but the amount of freshwater is
only 2.5% of this amount of water, and 98.8% of the freshwater is in ice and groundwater. Less than
0.3% of the entire freshwater is comprised within streams, rivers, lakes, and the atmosphere (Gleick,
1993). This scarce fluid has been used for a variety of human uses, such as agriculture, drinking,
washing, transportation, chemical uses, heat exchange, fire extinction, recreation, food processing,
etc. Although the amount of freshwater is scarce, it is not a limited finite source, but it is not an
unlimited renewable source either. Water is a non–renewable source that is re–circulated as potable
water through stages in the water cycle, such as transpiration, precipitation, percolation,
evaporation, etc. Therefore, the distribution of potable and safe water is limited, compared to the
realistic amount of water there is on Earth. Water is fundamental and critical to the proliferation of
life on Earth. It enables the role of organic compounds to react in processes that allow DNA
replication, protein and RNA synthesis, cell reproduction, cellular respiration, etc. Water also
accounts for metabolic process, such as anabolism and catabolism, which dissolve the body's solutes
such as glucose, fatty acids, and amino acids. Water is an inevitable necessity of life on Earth,

Who Is Myra Hindley: The Most Evil Woman In Britain?
Myra Hindley: "The most evil woman in Britain." Britain, as gloomy as the place can be with all the
rain, it also has their own kinds of serial killers. One in particular catches the eye of many: Myra
Hindley. Throughout her life, it shows her early years, love interest, the crimes she committed, the
arrest/trial, and the aftermath of it all. Myra Hindley was born on July 23, 1942, the first child of
Nellie and Bob Hindley. She was born on the year when a series of events happened in the United
States like the attack on Pearl Harbor. Bob was gone for the first three years of her life for WWII.
Nellie could not take care of Myra by herself, so she moved back in with her mother to help raise
her. Then when Bob returned from the war, Myra's grandmother decided to move around the corner
from them to keep a close eye. Though the aftermath of the war did not do well for Bob, he became
an alcoholic from the stress of work. The alcohol provoked him to abuse Nellie to the point Myra's
grandmother would have to break up various fights between them. For Myra's safety, Myra moved
back in with her grandmother at the age of 4 which is after the birth of her younger sister, Maureen.
Myra was still able to see her family, and after the courses of time, her mother and father taught her
things individually. Her father taught her how to fight while her mother taught her how to defend
herself from other males. Myra would protect her sister and her sister's friend, Pauline Reed, who

Commentary of Anne Bronte´s The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
Victorian Mystery Writers
Bronte uses marriage as a tool to represent it's confining nature. To do so, Bronte employs Helen
Huntington who from the beginning of the novel is depicted an strong–willed, freethinker, two
unfavorable traits for women in Victorian Era England. Her husband, Arthur is largely distinguished
from his wife due to his alcoholism, affairs and blatant displays of power. Arthur's role in his
marriage as both husband and master take a toll on both Helen and on the marriage. In an earlier
conversation between Helen and her Aunt, her aunt attempts to warn her about the danger of rushing
into marriage. Her Aunt asks, "Do you ever think about marriage" in order to measure Helen's
commitment, however Helen mundanely responds, "Sometimes". The experiences eyes of her Aunt
can see that Helen is not grasping the gravity of such a sacrament, but once she marries she begins
to realize. Soon and only after marriage, does her husband Arthur begin to change and show his true
colors as an alcoholic and womanizer. Through the relationship between Helen and Arthur, Anne
Bronte is able to depict the psychological effects of marriage. Unlike other marriages in the novel,
Helen's marriage to Arthur is largely driven by his addiction. For Arthur, his control over Helen
works to legitimize his household dominance as well his own masculinity. However, the reiteration
of his male dominance also stifles Helen's artistic growth, which manifest later in the novel during

A Short history of wine)
By the middle half of the 1800's Phylloxera, a disease in the vines destroyed over two thirds of the
vineyards in Europe and by 1875 Australia fell victim (John Beeston. (2008). History of Wine in
Australia) However with the strict regulations implemented in Australia, South Australia's Barossa
Valley remained free from Phylloxera and today has some of the oldest vines remaining in the
world.
By the 1980's domestic wine consumption per capita had reached 17.3 litres, as the 'bag in a box' an
Australian innovation had been perfected. (John Beeston. (2008). History of Wine in Australia)
In the Table Fig.1 below you can see and overview of the Australian wine sector in 2007, it shows
Australia's biggest export markets as well as the most produced varietals in the country the top being
Chardonnay. In the last twenty years the Australian industry however has suffered and Bob Oatley
former owner of Rosemount got out at the right time and made a fortune. It was only in the 1980's
that governments sponsored growers to pull out their vines to overcome the glut of wine grapes.
With low grape prices in the last seven years there has been debate for yet another sponsored vine
pull. (Nance Haxton (2006) "Grape Glut") Still today wineries continue to sell clean skins to try and
combat their poor sales at basically a

However, with the active shooter incident at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in
2007, it became clear that campuses are vulnerable targets of opportunity for the active shooter
(Kelly, 2015). Vulnerabilities of campus life include access to weapons, diminished resources for
intervention and prevention, lack of perceived and actual training by staff and campus safety, and
campuses considered safe and insulated from violent crimes (Kelly, 2015). All these factors lead to
campuses being vulnerable to an active shooter (Kelly, 2015). With so many vulnerabilities, students
depend on campus safety departments to provide for their security.
Hattersley Gray (2013) conducted a poll of campus safety departments and 1 in 4 reported that they
were not equipped and lacked training to be able to effectively respond to and active shooters on
campus. According to federal agency data, only 52% of institutions of higher learning had drills for
emergency response plans (Federal Emergency Management Agency, 2013). Wang & Hutchins
(2010) found that most of those plans were multipurpose and lacked significant depth for security
incidents. Regardless of the fact awareness increased since Virginia Tech, the lack of overall crisis
management plans is a major problem that impacts institutional operations, technology, and
infrastructure (Wang & Hutchins, 2010).

Goulburn Valley Industry Analysis

Within the Murray–Darling Basin, Goulburn Valley is one of the major fruit production regions in
Australia (Libby & Dixon 2011). 35% of the fruits and vegetables in Australia are grown in this
region due to the fertile soils and ideal climate (Hume Regional Management Forum, Department of
Planning and Community Development & Urban Development Division 2010). In addition, the
establishment of SPC Ardmona has resulted in the significant growth of economy and employment
within the region (Department of Agriculture 2011).

the issues that he was bringing to their attention. He was neglecting many of his peers and making
them feel inferior to his authority. This is definitely a wrong tactic to use when attempting to
demonstrate one's authority in the workplace.
When communicating with fellow employees, it is impeccable to demonstrate one's authority in a
manner that is non–threatening. An effective communicator is able to imply that he is in charge
rather than verbal state the obvious (Booher, 63). By doing so, the communicator does not disrespect
the audience nor does he come off as someone who is power hungry. Frank Miller could have
handled the situation much better if he took the time to listen to his employees' state the reasons for
the issues that were being demonstrated. This would have shown empathy towards his co–workers.
By stating that they were "excuses," he is implying that the problems persisted with their knowledge
and the current employees were too lazy to find alternative to fix the issue that was at hand.

Perspective On War Analysis
Perspective on War "We are making photographs to understand what our lives mean to us." (Ralph
Hattersley) In this photograph taken by Eddie Adams, it may be assumed that the photographer was
attempting to prove that war and hatred is not worth the value of life. A man with a pitiful face is
handcuffed with a mysterious man holding a gun to the unarmed man as a soldier observes. This
dated image depicting the conflict in Vietnam causes the viewer to feel the oppressive, violent
wartime of the era. Every person visible in the image is distressed. Strong emotion is apparent in all
of the faces of the individuals involved in the conflict. The people are the same nationality;
therefore, it appears that the gunman and the subject symbolize this brother versus brother war. Civil
war is debatably worse than being attacked by foreigners. It is unclear whether the man being held at
gunpoint is a civilian or a criminal, but he is not dressed as a soldier. However, it should be noted
that the subject was not an immediate threat; he had already been handcuffed. In contrast, there is a
man passing by the scene as if unconcerned that another man could lose his life. Had scenes like this

hired for Mr. Miller. This period would act as a probation type period, in which the new employee
would be evaluated every 2 weeks. The evaluation would be conducted by Brian Jones ( Vice
President of Systems and Programming), and would look at how well Mr. Miller was fitting in at the

effective strategy that could have been placed is to not wait 1 year to hire a new employee. One of
the problems of the company was that it lacked the proper managerial leadership it needed, and thus
when Mr. Miller came on board; he was probably given more power and responsibility than his job

writing emails to fellow employees. The above 3 strategies all could have been implemented in

restriction, such as: what subjects they should study, they were not allowed to vote, they were not
grand their fortune after marriage, she should not leave the domestic sphere, and who should be
submissive. The role model for this concept was Queen Victoria herself, who, together with her
husband, Albert, had nine children and embodied the perfect family. She was even described as 'the
mother of the nation' (BBC, Web). As I strongly disagree with the women's treatment back then, I
want to celebrate in this essay woman who, even a little bit broke the constraints and enjoyed their
lives in a period of oppressions. The beginning of this new women era, in which women asked to be
heard, started with Sunday Schools, in which the majority of volunteers were women, so they begin
to go out and interact with other people. The ones that are to be blamed for the women's situation in
Victorian Period are the women themselves, as Sarah Grand explains in her The New Aspect of the
Woman Question: We have allowed him to arrange the whole social system...Man deprived us of all
proper education, and then jeered at us because we had no knowledge. He narrowed our outlook on
life so that our view of it should be all distorted, and then declared that our mistaken impression of it

'An exquisite slave is what we want for the most part; a humble, flattering, smiling, tea–making,

Thackeray expresses men's wishes regarding the perfect wife. First of all, she must be a slave, not an
ordinary slave, but an exquisite one, a woman who always prises him and always encounters him
with a smile. She must know how to cook and to delight him with her artistic

Teens Who Suffer Dating Abuse
By Shari Keller Your teenage grandchild is explosive over trivial issues or the social butterfly has
less friends. Many grandparents today find themselves with a single parent child moving back home,
placing the burden of being both parent and grandparent on the Baby–Boomer. The grandparent
notices changes in the teen due to daily contact. These changes should never be dismissed or
ignored. The statistics on dating violence are staggering:
Roughly 1.5 million high school boys and girls in the U.S. admit to being intentionally hit or
physically harmed in the last year by someone they are romantically involved with. 33% of
adolescents in America are victims to sexual, physical, verbal, or emotional dating abuse. (The NO

Social media has increased the opportunity for the abuser to inflict verbal and emotional abuse on
the teen where they should be safest, their own home. Recognizing changes, isolation from friends
and family, emotional changes, spiraling from upbeat to sadness, constant communication by phone
or text regarding the teen's activities or whereabouts, sudden changes in appearance or quickly
becoming defensive over the boy/girlfriend can be warning signs. Symptoms of depression, anxiety
may manifest. The teen may suddenly start smoking, drinking, and experimenting with drugs.
Antisocial behavior may be observed and thoughts of suicide can manifest through art, selective
music playlist or in journaling. Not confiding in the parent may include but not limited to shame,
embarrassment, fear of having to break up or fear of retaliation from the soul mate for telling
someone. Teens experiencing infatuation find it hard to know whether it is jealousy or love that

The Hunting Ground, Directed By Kirby Dick
I am writing to you today out of concern for many students, specifically female Penn Staters. Sexual
assault is something that is frequently occurs at every university, especially this one. "At Penn
State's campus alone, since the beginning of the 2012–2013 school year, almost 30 sexual assaults
have been reported to local and off–campus police departments" (Thomas par. 2). Penn State
University has a rich history that dates all the way back to 1855, but that history has since been
marred by the night life here in State College. Sexual assault is an extremely hot topic right now,
especially after the new release of the featured film of 2015, "The Hunting Ground" directed by
Kirby Dick. This film opened the eyes of the public to sexual assaults on college campuses and how
frequent they really are. Dr. Barron, the number of sexual assaults at Penn State needs to decrease
drastically and in order to do that we need to educate the students as much as possible, increase the
number of on campus police officers, enhance the punishment for sexual assault crimes, and work
closely with the town police as well. "The Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network reports that
college–aged women are four times more likely than any other age group to face sexual assault"
(Lam par. 3). Sexual assault unfortunately occurs at every university. This letter is not going to solve
the issue completely and make Penn State a 100% safe campus where sexual assault never occurs.

Human resource management has become an indispensable part of most companies worldwide.
Human resource management is not only related to the way people are managed but also how people
can manage to maximize competitive advantage in the region, the market (Tyson, 1991 p2).
Business Strategy is defined as a strategy of a specific business unit (Tyson 2000, p66). Strategic
human resource (HR) is a series of policies and programs designed to achieve the goal of managing
people (Tyson, 2000 p66). SHRM in a broader terminology is an overall sense of mission and
direction, overall assessment of where the company is going and why. This can include the
pronunciation of the core values, special abilities and vision of the company. SHRM also focus on
the translation complex set of variables and dynamic internal and external, that an organization

Suffrage Movement Women
People across the world have the luxury of the right to vote. They did not always have this
opportunity, but now, people have this right, yet they often take it for granted. In Britain, women did
not have the right to vote until 1918, which was less than a century ago. Even so, women in Britain
did not have equal voting rights to those of men until 1928 ("General"). Additionally, American
women earned their right to vote in the 1920s, and if the British Suffrage Movement had not
occurred, American women would not have successfully earned this right ("Women's Suffrage").
The British Suffrage Movement of the mid–nineteenth century and the early twentieth century
greatly affected women because it allowed women to receive the same rights as ... Show more

Women were greatly affected both socially and politically by the British Suffrage Movement.
Women earned the right to vote in Britain, and they also changed gender stereotypes. Of course
these stereotypes still existed after the movement, and continue to exist today, but women started to
become able to earn an education and then receive better jobs. The British Suffrage Movement also
impacted women in America. Both movements in Britain and America occurred around the same
time, and they shared some methods and differed in other ways, but they still both obtained more
equality for women. Although the British Suffrage Movement was just granting one country a step
closer to gender equality, people must realize it's importance. The British Suffrage Movement
sparked the empowerment of women. If the British Suffrage Movement did not occur, then women
may not have been granted voting rights in almost every country. The American Suffrage Movement
may not have been successful if the ideas of Britain's Movement were not modeled. The ideas of
freedom that are constantly present in America would not have been true without the British
Suffrage Movement, because women in America would not have had the right to vote. All women
should appreciate the rights that they were granted,

Should Teachers Carry Guns In School Essay
TJ Harris
Eng 111–682W
November 3, 2017
Linda Hardin
Guns and Teachers Should teachers be allowed to carry guns in school? There are two very opposing
sides to this argument. Some people may think not for their own various reasons. My answer is yes.
You will find out why in this essay. First of all, in some places and different cases this is already
allowed. So first of all that should tell you something about the situation. Although the law
definitely is going up against some resistance (Quora). Some people like Daniel Kaplan, a teacher
on Quora, do not necessarily like the idea. He says he just simply, "I don't want to be saddled with
the responsibility and duty to protect others." (Quora). But also when he says that, he means that
teachers shouldn't be required to carry guns. But should teachers be able to carry a gun if they want
to (Quora)? There are many reasons why people say that this law should not be passed. One reason
is because how can more guns make us safer? Anything can happen, a teacher could go crazy, or a
student could get their hands on the teachers gun, or anything like that could happen (Sorkin). And if
something like this were to happen it will be said that it would not have been possible if the teacher
wasn't allowed to have a gun. Some say that teachers could have their guns hidden, or at least
another one hidden for if the main one is stolen. But then it will be said that that is a problem too
because then what is the teacher going to do

Difficulties with Effective Teamwork
Teamwork is a process among workers that ensures that your company thrives and grows to its
highest potential. When everyone collaborates together then the effects are in positive abundance.
Possessing the skills to collaborate with others is more effective than the energy it takes to do the
job (Global post,2014).
Cultural confusion whether it is personal, ethical or linguistic happens in all professional
environments and can cause angst and strife (Hattersley,2007). It is a main proponent in the
"disgruntled" workers, thus causing a hostile work environment. A hostile work environment lowers
morale and people start to not care about the job that they are doing. They treat the customers and
coworkers with ill respect. A hostile work environment results in multiple call ins, no calls and no
shows, and workers wanting to leave the job early, which causes extra work for the workers that are
there or those who come after them. A hostile work environment has a spiral effect and trickles
down until even the customers come in upset and leave upset, knowing that they will not have a nice
experience in said establishment.
Failing to understand other cultures can lead to negativity and unwanted chaos. "The joke of one
man can be a deadly insult to another (Hattersley,2007)". It is important to do your best to
communicate with people outside of one's own culture, especially in a place of employment. It
shows character, leadership and helps boost morale. Boosting the morale of a

Food Fraud Is A Serious Issue

  • 1. Food Fraud Is A Serious Issue 1. Introduction Food fraud is a serious issue which has come under increased scrutiny as a potential food safety and public health concern in recent years (Spink and Moyer 2011). Regulators, food producers, retailers, and consumers all have an interest in safeguarding foods and ensuring they are safe, genuine, and of the highest quality. Nevertheless, food fraud has been conducted since ancient times, with evidence of laws dating back to Roman times regarding the adulteration of wine, through the addition of sweeteners and coloring agents, or dilution with water. At that time the scale of fraud was much more limited to a smaller geographical region (Armstrong 2009; Spink and Moyer 2011). Because of the growth and increasing complexity of the modern global food supply systems, this has substantially heightened the risk of food fraud to include an entire global population, therefore having a major impact on the ability to protect consumer health (Moore and others 2012). Food fraud is a broader term than adulteration (Figure 1). An adulterated food is one which may be spoiled or intentionally adulterated with an adulterant– a substance which has been added illegally) (Spink and Moyer 2011). Virtually all foods have the potential to be adulterated, but those that are more expensive or are produced under changeable weather and harvesting conditions are especially vulnerable (Sharma and Paradakar 2010). Economically motivated adulteration is a subcategory of food fraud and is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. An Analysis of Masculinity in Anne Brontë’s The Tenant of... In Anne Brontë's The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Arthur Huntington, Helen's husband and Arthur's father, is presented as an alcoholic, disgraceful, narcissistic "gentleman" (Brontë 311). Despite Helen's efforts to shelter their son, Arthur, from the corrupted masculinity embodied by Huntington and his friends, Huntington encourages Arthur's "manly accomplishments" that mirror his own character, such as excessive drinking, swearing, and selfishness (297). For fear of Arthur becoming "a curse to others and himself", like his father, Helen has acquitted herself to prepare for an escape; however, Huntington seizes her journal which reveal her plans (203). In this passage Mr. Huntington is not only devaluing aspect of his corrupted masculinity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although Helen's concerns with Huntington's alcoholism have always been towards his disgraceful actions, Huntington is acknowledging the negative effects that alcohol can have for the first time in the novel. Although Huntington presents intoxication as trivial to him, he does not find the actions and behaviors he does under it as accountable for humiliation of his character. Instead, Huntington reveals, in this passage, that his level of disgrace depends on external sources; the actions of Helen and his son have the ability to disgrace him, where as his own do not. Helen describes the time of Huntington's illness and his later drunken actions at Grassdale as self–disgracing actions. Huntington, according to Helen towards his alcoholism, has "shamefully wronged [himself], body and soul" (217), but Huntington argues that he has "lived" (218). Helen continues to argue that Huntington's disgraced character is due to "his injustice, his selfishness and hopeless depravity" (226). Despite Helen's attempts to illuminate Huntington to the "crime of over indulgence", Huntington refuses to perceive it as shameful (191). Yet, when Helen purposes a separation after her discovery of the affair Huntington is having with Lady Lowborough, he refuses for fear of being disgraced. His image in society and "the old gossips in the neighbourhood" are, to Huntington, able to humiliate him (273). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Effects Of Dating On Teenagers How can dating at a young age affect a teenager? Dating is a part of life. 35% of teens have had some type of experience with dating or being in a relationship ("About Us"). The older a teenager becomes, the more likely they will begin to date. Majority of the time, teens will date their fellow peers at school. Throughout the years, dating has changed tremendously. Dating too early can be dangerous in some cases whereas it can physically affect a person which may lead to that person being mentally affected as well. Although dating as a teen may have some negative effects, it also can be positive. Teen dating can promote fast maturity. It also gives teens the opportunity to learn how to interact with the opposite sex appropriately also allowing them to figure themselves out. Dating is a part of life. At some point, most of us will experience it. Throughout the years, dating has changed tremendously. Knowing the appropriate age to date is extremely important. Teen dating has positive impacts like fast maturation and it allows a teen to discover them selves. Dating involves communication, responsibility, and loyalty. All teens go through their maturation stages during their years of high school. The most important part of maturation is puberty. • 13. The Contrast Between the Daily Mail and the Independent... The Contrast Between the Daily Mail and the Independent Newspapers need to aim at a specific corner of the market to be successful. The main reason for this is that if you have a readership consisting of a specific class or type of people eg. Middle class business men. Then advertisers who want to appeal to that specific audience will use that paper for their advert and the paper can obtain large profits from adverts and the advertisers can sell lots of products. Therefore the paper needs to know the readers status so it can tell the advertisers what kind of people they could reach by advertising with them. It also uses the symbol of an eagle which conveys an image of class and elegance as well as wisdom and authority as the eagle is the top of its food chain. The headlines of these two papers differ vastly as they are trying to achieve different aims. The Mail's headline of 'THE BLAIR MUTINY' was designed to give a dramatic look to the page as it is in a huge, bold text. It is also a WOB (white on black) which is only used when it is a serious and important issue. It uses the word 'Mutiny' which adds lots of stress to the headline as it is a powerful word that has a dramatic. The use of 'Blair Mutiny' is clever as it mimics 'The Cain Mutiny' which was when the crew of Cain's ship mutinied, just like now as Blair's 'crew', the cabinet are revolting. The Independents headline of 'Short faces the sack over act of treachery' is much less in your face as it is printed in a much smaller print than the Mail's and also it isn't in bold. Unlike the Mail the independent haven't used WOB (white on black) which gives it a lower profile. The use of the word 'treachery' gives it more drama and emphasis. Although it is obvious to see that this paper is not looking to attract readers by impact and dramatic looks, it is more aiming at people that will read it for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Anne Bronte's The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall Anne Bronte makes a bold statement of rebellion against the typically accepted yet deplorable behavior of Victorian males in her book "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall." In her novel, Helen Huntingdon breaks the rules of Victorian society with punishable offenses; such as, scandalously escaping from her abusive and philandering husband, refusing his demands for custody and fleeing with their only child, and absconding with much of her personal property. Helen's imprudent decision to marry Arthur Huntingdon is uncharacteristic of Bronte's heroine; however, rectitude and integrity eventually lead her to happiness. The domestic and social criticism of Helen's husband, Arthur Huntingdon and his perfidious ways, is pitted against the ideals of loyalty and integrity found in Helen's honorable neighbor, Gilbert Markham, when she flees to Wildfell Hall. Bronte, utilizes these characters to incite the need for social reformation with fresh inclusion of the redeeming values of biblical virtues. Bronte unremittingly presents the virtues of Christian values through her protagonist, Helen Huntingdon. Our initial realization of Helen's predicament is when she decides to marry Arthur Huntingdon against the admonition of her aunt who raised her following her mother's premature death. Helen once ... • 25. Water And Water : An Essential Constituent Of The Life On... Water is a transparent fluid that makes up the bodies of water on the planet Earth and is a major vital constituent of the life on Earth. Water covers 71% of Earth's surface, but the amount of freshwater is only 2.5% of this amount of water, and 98.8% of the freshwater is in ice and groundwater. Less than 0.3% of the entire freshwater is comprised within streams, rivers, lakes, and the atmosphere (Gleick, 1993). This scarce fluid has been used for a variety of human uses, such as agriculture, drinking, washing, transportation, chemical uses, heat exchange, fire extinction, recreation, food processing, etc. Although the amount of freshwater is scarce, it is not a limited finite source, but it is not an unlimited renewable source either. Water is a non–renewable source that is re–circulated as potable water through stages in the water cycle, such as transpiration, precipitation, percolation, evaporation, etc. Therefore, the distribution of potable and safe water is limited, compared to the realistic amount of water there is on Earth. Water is fundamental and critical to the proliferation of life on Earth. It enables the role of organic compounds to react in processes that allow DNA replication, protein and RNA synthesis, cell reproduction, cellular respiration, etc. Water also accounts for metabolic process, such as anabolism and catabolism, which dissolve the body's solutes such as glucose, fatty acids, and amino acids. Britain, as gloomy as the place can be with all the rain, it also has their own kinds of serial killers. One in particular catches the eye of many: Myra Hindley. Throughout her life, it shows her early years, love interest, the crimes she committed, the arrest/trial, and the aftermath of it all. Myra Hindley was born on July 23, 1942, the first child of Nellie and Bob Hindley. She was born on the year when a series of events happened in the United States like the attack on Pearl Harbor. Then when Bob returned from the war, Myra's grandmother decided to move around the corner from them to keep a close eye. Though the aftermath of the war did not do well for Bob, he became an alcoholic from the stress of work. The alcohol provoked him to abuse Nellie to the point Myra's grandmother would have to break up various fights between them. For Myra's safety, Myra moved back in with her grandmother at the age of 4 which is after the birth of her younger sister, Maureen. Myra was still able to see her family, and after the courses of time, her mother and father taught her things individually. • 33. Commentary of Anne Bronte´s The Tenant of Wildfell Hall Victorian Mystery Writers Bronte uses marriage as a tool to represent it's confining nature. To do so, Bronte employs Helen Huntington who from the beginning of the novel is depicted an strong–willed, freethinker, two unfavorable traits for women in Victorian Era England. Her husband, Arthur is largely distinguished from his wife due to his alcoholism, affairs and blatant displays of power. Arthur's role in his marriage as both husband and master take a toll on both Helen and on the marriage. In an earlier conversation between Helen and her Aunt, her aunt attempts to warn her about the danger of rushing into marriage. Her Aunt asks, "Do you ever think about marriage" in order to measure Helen's commitment, however Helen mundanely responds, "Sometimes". The experiences eyes of her Aunt can see that Helen is not grasping the gravity of such a sacrament, but once she marries she begins to realize. Soon and only after marriage, does her husband Arthur begin to change and show his true colors as an alcoholic and womanizer. Through the relationship between Helen and Arthur, Anne Bronte is able to depict the psychological effects of marriage. Unlike other marriages in the novel, Helen's marriage to Arthur is largely driven by his addiction. For Arthur, his control over Helen works to legitimize his household dominance as well his own masculinity. However, the reiteration of his male dominance also stifles Helen's artistic growth, which manifest later in the novel during her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, with the active shooter incident at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2007, it became clear that campuses are vulnerable targets of opportunity for the active shooter (Kelly, 2015). Vulnerabilities of campus life include access to weapons, diminished resources for intervention and prevention, lack of perceived and actual training by staff and campus safety, and campuses considered safe and insulated from violent crimes (Kelly, 2015). All these factors lead to campuses being vulnerable to an active shooter (Kelly, 2015). With so many vulnerabilities, students depend on campus safety departments to provide for their security. Hattersley Gray (2013) conducted a poll of campus safety departments and 1 in 4 reported that they were not equipped and lacked training to be able to effectively respond to and active shooters on campus. (Ralph Hattersley) In this photograph taken by Eddie Adams, it may be assumed that the photographer was attempting to prove that war and hatred is not worth the value of life. A man with a pitiful face is handcuffed with a mysterious man holding a gun to the unarmed man as a soldier observes. This dated image depicting the conflict in Vietnam causes the viewer to feel the oppressive, violent wartime of the era. Every person visible in the image is distressed. Strong emotion is apparent in all of the faces of the individuals involved in the conflict. The people are the same nationality; therefore, it appears that the gunman and the subject symbolize this brother versus brother war. Civil war is debatably worse than being attacked by foreigners. It is unclear whether the man being held at gunpoint is a civilian or a criminal, but he is not dressed as a soldier. This period would act as a probation type period, in which the new employee would be evaluated every 2 weeks. The evaluation would be conducted by Brian Jones ( Vice President of Systems and Programming), and would look at how well Mr. Miller was fitting in at the corporation, and also look at any changes he has made and the resulting effects of them. Another effective strategy that could have been placed is to not wait 1 year to hire a new employee. One of the problems of the company was that it lacked the proper managerial leadership it needed, and thus when Mr. Miller came on board; he was probably given more power and responsibility than his job entailed. Finally, a third strategy that should have been placed is to ensure proper communication from day 1. Proper communication would entail a contract or meeting that described all of Mr. Miller's responsibilities, his boundaries as assistant vice president, and the proper etiquette in writing emails to fellow employees. The above 3 strategies all could have been implemented in order to prevent such chaos. The first strategy, " Bi – weekly" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Women's Role Of Women In The Victorian Era Victorian Era was an era in which women had endless predicaments in their lives. Women had restriction, such as: what subjects they should study, they were not allowed to vote, they were not grand their fortune after marriage, she should not leave the domestic sphere, and who should be submissive. The role model for this concept was Queen Victoria herself, who, together with her husband, Albert, had nine children and embodied the perfect family. She was even described as 'the mother of the nation' (BBC, Web). As I strongly disagree with the women's treatment back then, I want to celebrate in this essay woman who, even a little bit broke the constraints and enjoyed their lives in a period of oppressions. The beginning of this new women era, in which women asked to be heard, started with Sunday Schools, in which the majority of volunteers were women, so they begin to go out and interact with other people. The ones that are to be blamed for the women's situation in Victorian Period are the women themselves, as Sarah Grand explains in her The New Aspect of the Woman Question: We have allowed him to arrange the whole social system...Man deprived us of all proper education, and then jeered at us because we had no knowledge. • 78. Teens Who Suffer Dating Abuse By Shari Keller Your teenage grandchild is explosive over trivial issues or the social butterfly has less friends. Many grandparents today find themselves with a single parent child moving back home, placing the burden of being both parent and grandparent on the Baby–Boomer. The grandparent notices changes in the teen due to daily contact. These changes should never be dismissed or ignored. The statistics on dating violence are staggering: Roughly 1.5 million high school boys and girls in the U.S. admit to being intentionally hit or physically harmed in the last year by someone they are romantically involved with. 33% of adolescents in America are victims to sexual, physical, verbal, or emotional dating abuse. Recognizing changes, isolation from friends and family, emotional changes, spiraling from upbeat to sadness, constant communication by phone or text regarding the teen's activities or whereabouts, sudden changes in appearance or quickly becoming defensive over the boy/girlfriend can be warning signs. Symptoms of depression, anxiety may manifest. The teen may suddenly start smoking, drinking, and experimenting with drugs. Antisocial behavior may be observed and thoughts of suicide can manifest through art, selective music playlist or in journaling. • 82. The Hunting Ground, Directed By Kirby Dick I am writing to you today out of concern for many students, specifically female Penn Staters. Sexual assault is something that is frequently occurs at every university, especially this one. "At Penn State's campus alone, since the beginning of the 2012–2013 school year, almost 30 sexual assaults have been reported to local and off–campus police departments" (Thomas par. 2). Penn State University has a rich history that dates all the way back to 1855, but that history has since been marred by the night life here in State College. Sexual assault is an extremely hot topic right now, especially after the new release of the featured film of 2015, "The Hunting Ground" directed by Kirby Dick. This film opened the eyes of the public to sexual assaults on college campuses and how frequent they really are. Dr. Barron, the number of sexual assaults at Penn State needs to decrease drastically and in order to do that we need to educate the students as much as possible, increase the number of on campus police officers, enhance the punishment for sexual assault crimes, and work closely with the town police as well. "The Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network reports that college–aged women are four times more likely than any other age group to face sexual assault" (Lam par. 3). Sexual assault unfortunately occurs at every university. This letter is not going to solve the issue completely and make Penn State a 100% safe campus where sexual assault never occurs. • 94. Suffrage Movement Women People across the world have the luxury of the right to vote. They did not always have this opportunity, but now, people have this right, yet they often take it for granted. In Britain, women did not have the right to vote until 1918, which was less than a century ago. Even so, women in Britain did not have equal voting rights to those of men until 1928 ("General"). Additionally, American women earned their right to vote in the 1920s, and if the British Suffrage Movement had not occurred, American women would not have successfully earned this right ("Women's Suffrage"). The British Suffrage Movement of the mid–nineteenth century and the early twentieth century greatly affected women because it allowed women to receive the same rights as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women were greatly affected both socially and politically by the British Suffrage Movement. Women earned the right to vote in Britain, and they also changed gender stereotypes. Of course these stereotypes still existed after the movement, and continue to exist today, but women started to become able to earn an education and then receive better jobs. The British Suffrage Movement also impacted women in America. Both movements in Britain and America occurred around the same time, and they shared some methods and differed in other ways, but they still both obtained more equality for women. Although the British Suffrage Movement was just granting one country a step closer to gender equality, people must realize it's importance. The British Suffrage Movement sparked the empowerment of women. If the British Suffrage Movement did not occur, then women may not have been granted voting rights in almost every country. The American Suffrage Movement may not have been successful if the ideas of Britain's Movement were not modeled. The ideas of freedom that are constantly present in America would not have been true without the British Suffrage Movement, because women in America would not have had the right to vote. All women should appreciate the rights that they were granted, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 98. Should Teachers Carry Guns In School Essay TJ Harris Eng 111–682W November 3, 2017 Linda Hardin Guns and Teachers Should teachers be allowed to carry guns in school? There are two very opposing sides to this argument. Some people may think not for their own various reasons. My answer is yes. You will find out why in this essay. First of all, in some places and different cases this is already allowed. So first of all that should tell you something about the situation. Although the law definitely is going up against some resistance (Quora). Some people like Daniel Kaplan, a teacher on Quora, do not necessarily like the idea. He says he just simply, "I don't want to be saddled with the responsibility and duty to protect others." (Quora). But also when he says that, he means that teachers shouldn't be required to carry guns. But should teachers be able to carry a gun if they want to (Quora)? There are many reasons why people say that this law should not be passed. One reason is because how can more guns make us safer? Anything can happen, a teacher could go crazy, or a student could get their hands on the teachers gun, or anything like that could happen (Sorkin). And if something like this were to happen it will be said that it would not have been possible if the teacher wasn't allowed to have a gun. Some say that teachers could have their guns hidden, or at least another one hidden for if the main one is stolen. But then it will be said that that is a problem too because then what is the teacher going to do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 102. Difficulties with Effective Teamwork Teamwork is a process among workers that ensures that your company thrives and grows to its highest potential. When everyone collaborates together then the effects are in positive abundance. Possessing the skills to collaborate with others is more effective than the energy it takes to do the job (Global post,2014). Cultural confusion whether it is personal, ethical or linguistic happens in all professional environments and can cause angst and strife (Hattersley,2007). It is a main proponent in the "disgruntled" workers, thus causing a hostile work environment. A hostile work environment lowers morale and people start to not care about the job that they are doing. They treat the customers and coworkers with ill respect. A hostile work environment results in multiple call ins, no calls and no shows, and workers wanting to leave the job early, which causes extra work for the workers that are there or those who come after them. A hostile work environment has a spiral effect and trickles down until even the customers come in upset and leave upset, knowing that they will not have a nice experience in said establishment. Failing to understand other cultures can lead to negativity and unwanted chaos. "The joke of one man can be a deadly insult to another (Hattersley,2007)". It is important to do your best to communicate with people outside of one's own culture, especially in a place of employment. It shows character, leadership and helps boost morale.
