An Article On The Missing Link Of Success
The Missing Link #4: Productivity
By Kyre Adept
Nov 14, 2012
Are you feeling stuck or paralyzed in your life or business? Do you spend way too much time on the
internet, reading your email, drinking coffee or the equivalent because you just can 't focus on work?
The fact is that many people are slackers and drifters, with mediocre lives...
The good news is that in the teleconference series on The Missing Link to Success, we look at the five
components that I have found are central to creating a prosperous life. Here 's the formula:
PASSION + PURPOSE + POSITION + PRODUCTIVITY + PEACE OF MIND = PROSPERITY
As well as the article called The Missing Link to Success, which provides an overview of the whole
series, there is an article for each of these 'Five Ps ', so look for them wherever you found this article! I
'm going to assume you 've read the summary article plus the articles on Passion, Purpose and Position,
because each components builds on the previous ones. Once you have reset the first three Ps, you are
ready to improve your capacity to be PRODUCTIVE.
What does this mean? Why is it important to be productive? The main dictionary definition of
productive is: "yielding favorable or useful results; being constructive; effective in achieving specified
results." (There are also specialized meanings in economics, medicine and linguistics, but the main
meanings will do.)
In work terms, productivity means being able to focus on your assigned (or assumed) tasks, and to

A Report On Employees Staff Turnover
Introduction: Any business with unhappy employees will lead to high rate of staff turnover and
generally create a negative work environment. This has been an ongoing and serious issue, it is
definitely something that requires addressing and to be improved so JW Manufacturing can become an
environment where workers are happy working, this will in turn also reduce the staff turnover figures.
Currently there are 40% of the workers that are not happy working particularly in the afternoon and
night shifts, of the amount of staff that have left the company and even express interest in leaving the
company, 90% have been from the workers who are rostered on the afternoon and night shifts. So
unhappy employees lead to workers leaving, money and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Work Effectively with Diversity
Work Effectively With Diversity SECTION 1: RECOGNISE AND VALUE INDIVIDUAL
DIFFERENCES Assessment Strategy: Activities Activity 1 1. Explain stereotyping and the reasons
why it is not good to let stereotypes affect your relationship with others. Stereotyping is holding the
thought that the members of a particular group are all of the same character or thinking. For example:
that all accountants are boring, all red heads are bad tempered, all skinny people are anorexic, all girls
play with dolls, all boys play with cars, etc. Stereotyping makes assumptions about members of a
particular group, solely because of their membership in that group. In my opinion, it isn't good to let
stereotypes affect my relationship with others because: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking back now, if placed in that same situation, I would not react by confronting the person. I now
realise that she probably wasn't even aware of my feelings about growing up in South Africa and how a
comment like that would affect me. She probably just said it because it is within her family/cultural
upbringing to use terms like that in a joking way. I would now be more tolerant when faced with a
situation like that and brush it aside. Stereotyping that women are bad drivers: On a regular occasion,
when driving with males in a car, and there is somebody on the road making an error in driving, the
comment always comes up that the driver must be a female. I know that it is said in jest, but it is a
typical stereotyping comment which is made, which seems to be accepted by society. I don't drive, so I
don't take offence to the comment, but I do stand up for other female drivers when the comment is
made though, because I wouldn't be surprised if other females, who do drive, do take offence to such a
comment. Learning what I have now though, if a comment like that is said, then I won't react to it. I
will be tolerant towards the person saying it because they are obviously repeating something which is
commonly said within society and said in jest. Even though the comment isn't acceptable to me, I will
learn to tolerate it. 3. What can you do to overcome these effects of stereotyping? 1. I should learn to
be more tolerant and become more aware

Essay on Banana Time Case
BANANA TIME CASE
This case deals specifically with the members of the "clicking" workgroup. The problem appears to be
a total lack of supervision and management oversight as the work location is completely isolated from
other areas of the shop floor. This lack of supervision has led to a number of concerns. Specifically, the
issues of horseplay, extended breaks and operator disruptions, which all lead to a loss of production,
are clearly visible during daily operations. These problems, while on the surface may seem trivial, the
loss of production and absence of concern for operator safety need to be addressed. If the working
group throughput quota is being met, some leniency could be afforded for the extended breaks and

Third, because the work is not mentally stimulating or challenging, it is recommended that workspace
modification be made. These could include additional or improved natural lighting, as well as the
introduction of music. A radio could provide enough mental stimulation that would help keep the
operators focused on the "clicking" operation, while also reducing the amount of verbal conversations
and discourses on various subjects. Of course, this brings new issues which include; musical
preferences of each operator may be significantly different.
Because George is the team lead, he should be responsible for maintaining proper behavior of the
operators of the equipment, as well as, adhering to the guidelines for the appropriate length of work
breaks. If this means the enforcement of existing, or the development of new policies, George's roles
and responsibilities should be explicitly defined to include this task. If he is not fulfilling these duties,
he should be coached in private so that he understands the importance of maintaining professional
mannerisms around the dangerous "clicking" equipment.
Finally, the issue of the operators being overqualified is a serious problem to consider. Solutions to this
problem could include rotational assignments outside the "clicking" group to provide some variety in
work being performed. Some benefits of rotating employees through the

The Most Beautiful And Greatest Musical Works Of The 20th...
On November 2, I was delighted to attend "Solemn Mass for the Dead on the Feast of All Souls" at St.
James Cathedral. Now I still feel highly honored to hear Maurice Duruflé's Requiem–one of the most
beautiful and greatest musical works of the 20th century. As an international student from China and
have no religion belief, it's totally brand new and unusual experience for me to have this special chance
to open my eyes widely to see the magnificent church. This opportunity is of great benefit to me to
learn Catholic Church and acquaintance with religious faith.

Service Learning Team Reflection Paper
Working with the Service Learning team has shown many of my classmates just what exactly the real
world looks like. For many of them I assume this was there first time doing a project of this nature and
seeing this sort of chaos. Luckily for many of them this project was handled mainly by a few strong
leaders of the class and the majority of them only needed to follow behind and assist with very small
mundane tasks. Although some tried to help and get involved it was very noticeable that their efforts
were halfhearted, and quickly they would back out of conversation and sit quietly waiting for a
decision to be made. Although this sounds harsh and condescending it's by no means meant to take
away from their efforts. They all showed up when told to and they each interacted with the children or
at least helped us get ready for the activities.
As my part in this group I took on ensuring the snack was provided, and that each station had what
they needed and was ready to begin their activity. I personally

Latent Defect Essay

CM 385: Section 1
Final Paper
How Can A Contractor Avoid Liability for Defective Work?
Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how one
manages the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown and
disappear in the raging waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of faith
into the flailing wind. As said by Leo F. Buscalglia, "The person who risks nothing – does nothing, has
nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot
learn... and grow... and live." (Buscalglia, 2009) The contractor who is bound to the owner must

Binghamton Housing Authority. It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace apartment
complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The parents of the
child claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence in constructing
the stoop without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v. Schofield case, which
states, "We have not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the duty of making a machine
accident proof or foolproof." The court also noted that the complex had been used without accident for
six years and that it did not conceal any dangers or defective work that would not have been found by a
reasonable inspection. The outcome of the case proved that the pleading did not contain any allegation
of a defect, and that the liability rested upon the parents of the child.
Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future claims as
long as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably been identified.
Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is classified as a latent
defect, the risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back to the contractor.
Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent

Towards the end of the CPT, I made a list of lessons I learned during my one year at the company.
At first, when sending emails, double check the spelling and grammar before sending the email, people
might upset if they notice some mistakes in the email. Avoid using "you should do XXX", it would
make people unhappy as they think you force them to do something. Being polite and showing people
kindness goes a long way.
Second, pay attention to details. When I file the tax report, I need file/pay on time and double check
each number to make sure it is correct. If I made any mistakes, the company will get a penalty notice,
which it is not good. And when I input data into the Accounting system, I need to make sure I didn't

Farm Girl
Summary of Farm Girl
Anderson Jude
ENG 115 Professor Chris Swindell
Strayer University
October 23rd, 2013
The short story Farm Girl is an in depth look at life through the eyes of a young girl growing up with
her family on a farm. Throughout this non–fiction story the author Jessica Hemauer, does an amazing
job of describing her surroundings to pull the reader in and make them feel like they are there with her.
She begins as a younger girl describing how difficult it is for a child to awake from a deep slumber,
and immediately get to work doing jobs some grown men would cringe at. "Cleaning out various huts
and pens and laying down fresh straw are part of our daily duties" (Hemauer, 2011 p. 84). She
continues by explaining how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She uses her years of experience from working on the farm to her advantage, and is finally able to do
all the things she has always thought to be impossible. "I join the homecoming club, audition for
musicals and plays, serve as the president of the student council as well as president of my class"
(Hemauer, 2011 p. 86). Before ending the story she tells the reader how all of her activities have not
made her feel any less different then she did before. However, she comes to the realization that if it had
not been for all of those years of hard work on the farm, then she would not be able to manage her time
as well as she does to be able to participate in all those activities, and at the same time hold down a job,
and perform better than others in the work place (Hemauer, 2011).
The entire story I felt as if I was there on the farm with the young girl. I was drawn to read it more than
once not because it was difficult to understand, but because the descriptions were so vivid I did not
want to overlook anything. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the short story Farm Girl, and would
recommend it to anyone that is looking for an interesting story to read.

Learning Outcome 1: Be able to align objectives of own area of responsibility with those of own
organisation – this has previously been discussed and evidence passed on.
Learning Outcome 2: Be able to implement operational plans in own area of responsibility
2.1 Assess risks associated with operational plans and include contingency agreements; Within the
third sector the majority of funding that we receive is restricted which limits where the money can be
spent and means that it can only be spent on the purpose for which it is assigned. With regards to the
projects that I run this is the situation with all of the funding streams, all of the money that I manage is

For example the Bristol City Councils Community Investment Team recently had a funding grant
available. Two years ago when they know they would be opening the grant up they published a time
line which included consultations, bid submission dates, interview dates, notification of successful bid
dates and then the grant start date. This allows us as an organisation to factor in the dates one for
availability and planning but also for factoring in the money for budget consideration knowing that if
we are successful we will receive more money which will be contributed to our core costs which will
have a positive impact on all other services. We find that all external stakeholders will provide us with
all future dates from the onset of a funding opportunity.
2.3 Implement operation plan within own area of responsibility; The operational plan that I have
submitted is from my area of responsibility, this has been devised by using the organisational strategy
and working out my areas on responsibility. This allows me to have an end goal and then I need to plan
how to achieve it. Once this is done I can work out a step by step plan of what needs to be done and by
whom. This is all added to the plan along with any other obligations that will arise like staff
supervision and appraisals and monitoring. I can then arrange the plan so that it is ordered by

and continued my outside–of–school activities. But, my best moments were when I was the co–chair

The stress, the early mornings, the tough decisions, the budgeting and fundraising issues, I loved every
challenge and reward that came with the position. I realized that I had more potential and influence

Case Analysis: the Arctic Mining Consultants
The symptoms of this case are 2 employees, Millar and Boyce not meeting the daily quota of lengths.
The team was not able to meet the deadline set by Parker because Millar and Boyce did not meet the
daily goals. Since the deadline was not met, each team member would not receive the bonus of $300.
Another symptom is Millar's lack motivation towards the end of the project.
The cause of the symptoms includes low daily wages, insufficient training, and inequality. Parker was
not able to effectively coach Millar about how to meet his daily goal. The team's members received
considerably low daily wages for the work they did, regardless of the amount of work they did or how
long it took them to do it. No training was given on how to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parker could have attached a smaller bonus to each day depending onml the lengths completed. This
could serve as an external motivator to find efficient ways to get the job done. Although all of the team
members had the ability to do the job, Millar and Boyce lacked the skills to do the job efficiently.
Another cause of the symptoms in this cause is the lack of direction or training. Once Parker realized
Millar and Boyce where not meeting the daily goals, he could have talked with. No them, found out
why the goals weren't being met, and came up with some suggestions that would help in meeting the
goals. Parker was also mute when on Day 6 Millar produced 8½ lengths. This would have been a great
time to boost Millar's motivation. Focusing on positive versus the negative aspects will improve
individual morale and well as the organizational atmosphere.
By Day 8 Millar had run out of steam. Feeling he could never meet Parker's expectations, he was
demotivated. Although Millar and Boyce did not meet their daily quota, the tirades always seem to be
focused towards Millar. Millar felt like regardless of how hard he tried and the amount of work he
produced was meaningless, Parker remained silent on Day 6 even though Millar did 8 ½ lengths. At the
end, the situational factors that had occurred during the project prevented Millar from caring whether
or not he received the $300 bonus.
At the beginning Millar was motivated and possessed the ability to get

Service Learning Project When I began my Civics class, thinking it potentially difficult and boring, I

all of the ways I volunteered. Not only did the people I volunteered for gain something through my

The first activity I completed was observing a Davidson County School Board meeting on the topic of
an information breach that occurred. I took notes throughout the meeting and supported every teacher
that spoke about their concerns. Collecting trash around the Ledford High School campus, both the
football and baseball stadiums on two different occasions, was the next activity I completed. I then

when he needed it. I was also a buddy for multiple athletes at the Miracle League of High Point. I

The Musical Works Of Giacomo Puccini
Turandot displays the musical works of Giacomo Puccini, yet was unfinished at the time of his death in
1924 (Edmonton Opera, Program Notes, P. 17). At the premiere, in La Scala, Milan on April 25th, 1926
the work was performed as written by Puccini, however two supplementary scenes were completed and
added by Franco Alfano following the premiere (Edmonton Opera, Program Notes, p.17). Puccini
worked with two librettists while writing Turandot: Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni (Edmonton
Opera, Program Notes, p.17). This musical work is a late romantic opera, with an emphasis on
emotions being prevalent throughout the opera (Kerman & Tomlinson, Listen, 8th edition, 2015, p.
274). As the conductor took his place in the pit, the audience began the performance with a loud
applause. When the curtains were drawn back, the audience's attention was immediately fixed upon the
stage. As the characters began to file in, one's eyes were easily drawn to the characters of wealth and
importance as their costumes were more colourful and lavish then those of the chorus. The music
accompanying this image drew the audience even further into the performance as its stylistic features
helped to portray a sense of urgency and warning.
Three acts formed the evening's performance.
Act One
Act One began with a feeling of ominousness created by loud tense chords played on the strings,
followed by a haunting segment of staccato played on the xylophone. The act began with the mandarin,

Select One Musical Work from the Period 1100-1500 and...
The musical work that I am going to use in this essay is "Non avra ma' pieta" by Francesco Landini.
Classical Archives (2008) have noted that Francesco Landini was the most celebrated musician in the
first school of polyphonic music in Italy. They also say that Landini was born in Fiesole on the
outskirts of Florence and that he was the son of Jacopo Del Casentino, a painter and student of Giotto.
It also states that when Francesco Landini was a child, he suffered from smallpox and as a result of
this, left him blind for the rest of his life. He dealt with this by taking refuge in music. One way in how
Landini done this was by playing a wide range of instruments. One in particular that he mastered was
the organ. Landini was famed for his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the piece of music I am studying, there are only 3 accidentals. One being F sharp another is C sharp
and last is B flat. Although in this time period, music wouldn't have a major or minor key as such,
when listening to this piece of music it would be easy to come to the conclusion that the piece sounds
more major than minor. However when reading the translation of the song "She will never have mercy,
this lady of mine, if you do not see it, love" it will suggest that the ballata is of a minor key.
Francesco Landini's 'Non avra ma pieta' does not have a musical background as such. Like many others
of Landini's work 'Non avra ma pieta' does not have a publish data. This then makes it hard to know
how old Landini was when he composed this piece and also whereabouts he composed it. Most of his
other 154 or so works were composed in his home town Fiesole, Florence (where he also died) so I
would guess that this ballata was also composed there as well.
When looking at the melody in the ballata 'Non Avra ma pieta' it will be important to break it down into
section. These would be: range, shape and movement. The range of this piece is in a medium
arrangement, most notes for the treble clef are in the middle of the stave throughout the piece with
some high and low notes. The ranges of notes used are not of a narrow range as they move up and
down the scale freely. Then main range of notes that will be found in this sorrowful piece will be from
middle C in the treble clef

Final Report Real Time Interactive Group Project
Final Report Real Time Interactive group project
Introduction
For this report the process of creating the game Chased by Snakes as a member of Danger Noodle will
be discussed.
Methodology
For this project it was decided by the group to use a flat management structure, and to follow a system
akin to free development. This method meant that none of the group was the project manager and
instead the thing keeping people on track was their self–motivation to complete the project. To aid with
completing the project at the start of the project a list of work was set out from the requirements, and
then each member of the group picked the tasks that they could complete for the year. The main reason
such a free and unstructured ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another problem is that this method requires everyone to have high motivation if they want to
complete the project to a high standard and a as the group is small a few unmotivated people can bring
the whole project down. The group did have motivation problems during the middle of the project with
some group members not producing any work. The motivation could have been reduced if the work
been assigned one at a time instead of all at the start allowing people to focus on one thing at a time
and seeing the list of work get smaller.
A problem with using this flat management with free development is that there are not a lot of
examples to follow with many companies using agile. It seems that this flat management is new to the
games industry and so the group might make some mistakes that others can learn from in the future
who want to use the same structure. There are however some companies that do, valve uses a flat
management structure and so does Chucklefish games (Bithell , Sliwinski, & Orlowski , 2016)(18:25–
19:00). At Chucklefish the flat management works well as there is a small team of people who are all
self–motivated to complete the parts of the game they are working on. As we were working in a

The Importance Of Team Dynamics And Communication
Throughout my semester in SciTech, perhaps the most important thing that I took away from my
experience was the importance of team dynamics and communication in collaborative projects, and this
is particularly true in engineering fields, where it is absolutely essential to success, and, in my opinion,
significantly more important than the skill of knowledge of individual team members after a certain
point. Every team that I was part of during SciTech, the team for the semester challenge especially, had
numerous issues in cooperation and communication, and conflict repeatedly arises, though we
eventually learned how best to function together and were able to successfully complete the challenge
before D4 with a significant amount of time to spare, though we did have some issues with time
management in regard to the Final Report later. I have found that, although relevant skills to the task at
hand, proficiency with SolidWorks or a general aptitude for mechanical engineering for example,
organizational abilities, or other things of that nature, these are effectively useless without a developer
work ethic, a willingness to accept feedback and learn, the ability to effectively resolve disputes, and
good communication, all of which are immensely valuable in a collaborative setting. For example, one
of my group members spent more than a week on the quantitative analysis section of the FDR, but I
ended up having to redo large portions of it anyway (logbook 3/23), which

1. Please give examples that indicate your ability to function effectively, as a productive member of a

Throughout my life, I have frequently been a part of a team. Whether it was in an athletic, academic, or
employment sense, I have learned many life lessons and values solely because I was a part of these
teams. Growing up, I was involved in countless team–based sports in which I had a number of roles.
There were times when I had to step up and lead, and times where I had to learn to take a step back and
follow. I learned that I was only a small part of the success that happens and that the ultimate goal of

I have already realized how important it is that the medical unit function as a team and work together
so that the patient is given the best possible treatment.
Another team experience came during my first year of undergraduate studies. In this experience, I had
the opportunity to work for Texas Tech under one of my professors. The task that I was assigned with
was to help with the transition of one online class system to another. Overall, there was a lot of work
that had to be done in order to meet the specified deadlines. Personally, I was put in charge of creating
two classes in the new format of Blackboard that the university was planning to switch to. With all of
the work that had to be done for each class, the professor made specific students in charge of certain
classes and then gave each person in charge a team of other students to help the leader with the class.
As a team leader, I was responsible for delegating certain objectives out to the rest of the team, while
also performing my own tasks. Each task had a concrete deadline to meet and it was crucial that I meet
all set deadlines if I expected the rest of my team to meet their deadlines. This helped to hold everyone
accountable because if one member of the team slacked, then it gave a bad look to the team as a whole.
Furthermore, we had a peer review system put in place

What I Learned About Management
Concrete Experience I knew that management was something I was mentally programed for from a
young age. May of 2000 was the summer going into my sophomore year of high school and I was
venturing into my first tax–paying job at Sonic. I liked the structure it had, compared to the odd
summer jobs I had been picking up in the past. From the ripe age of 16, I had already began the process
of evaluating personnel, process's for improvements, and trying to create a safer work environment for
myself and those around me. With the start of my senior year quickly approaching, I was already
balancing sports, grades, college applications, and now my employer was asking me to step up from a
shift leader to assistant manager. I always had the thoughts, if I were the manager I would do this or I
would do that. The same thoughts everyone else was having, except I wasn't saying unrealistic
comments like; we would have two–hour lunches and I wouldn't make anyone work Friday nights. I
was looking at how personnel were used and how their strengths were not being maximized. I was
critiquing the processes that had been in place well before I came around, that had never been
questioned. I was young and had big plans for my future that didn't include anything to do with
management. At the time, I never knew I was starting to develop skill sets that would help me reach
goals in my current career. My first year of college was cut short with my desire to join the United
States Army. All

William Golding 's Lord Of The Flies
To be an effective society, itś important to have a few key qualities such as teamwork or cooperation
and order. These make achieving goals much easier, and in the end, it leads to success by completing
the tasks needed to get towards the goal, whether that be obtaining food or conquering an entire
continent. In Golding 's Lord of the Flies, a lack of mutual respect between the leaders and followers as
well as the failure to unite themselves to work together for the same goals, resulted in chaos, and
ultimately, the division and failure of their society on the island. Without respect in their society, a
balance of fear and friendliness, nobody follows the rules and commands given, and almost none of the

In order to have an effective society, it really requires a group effort with effort from everyone to make
it happen. Ralph and Piggy begin to expose the problems with a group divided when scolding Jack. "'I
was chief, and you were going to do what I said. You talk. But you can't even build huts– then you go
off hunting and let out the fire [...] This job was too much. We needed everyone. [...] You could have
had everyone when the shelters were finished. But you had to hunt–'" (70–71 Golding) The followers
are some of the most important and influential people in the success or deterioration of a society. Ralph
was their leader, but not only did people not listen to him, they also didn't do what he told them to do.
Without enough followers listening to him, they were unable to keep the fire going, Ralph's main goal
which could've helped bring rescue to them. It was much more difficult, and the boys were unable to
efficiently and effectively work to accomplish their goal, the main event that lead to the group fights.
Since Jack and some other boys didn't listen to their leader, they not only hurt their chances of rescue
and survival, but split the group, turning friends into enemies which lead to multiple unnecessary and
unwarranted deaths on the island. Ralph was too friendly, and the boys betrayed him, but they didn't

For proponents, the approach has been used to diagnose and treat a diverse set of workplace ills,
including poor communication, sluggish innovation, absenteeism, antimanagement sentiment, stress,
and lack of creativity. Deal and Kennedy (1999) even suggested that if the "Fun Quotient" is high in a
firm, then employees "will be more willing to commit themselves . . . people will pour their hearts and
souls into what they do . . . it produces better results for everyone concerned–employers, employees,
and society at large" (p. 234). According to these authors, cultures that promote a childlike frivolity and
playfulness are especially important today following the wave of downsizing that beleaguered
corporate capitalism in the early 1990s. Perhaps echoing the current interest in corporate spirituality
and enchantment (Casey, 2002; Kline & Izzo, 1999), they claimed that managers must now try to
counter labor discontent by fundamentally changing the meaning of work among employees and
managers alike. This article critically examines a managed culture of fun in a communications
organization. It will be argued that an important aspect of this management approach is the symbolic
blurring of the boundary that has traditionally demarcated work and nonwork experiences. This
boundary of course has antecedents that can be traced back to the industrial revolution whereby home,
lifestyle, recreation, and play were severed from the act of labor by the

Personal Vision Statement : My Vision
Introduction
In this paper, I will outline my personal vision statement. This vision and mission will help determine
the steps I need to take now in order to become the type of leader that others will follow. Next, I
discuss those internal and external obstacles which may prevent me from achieving my goals. Lastly, I
will identify the steps I will take to overcome or mitigate those obstacles. In conclusion, by outlining
my desired personal vision statement I hope to have a picture or image upon which I can reflect
regularly. By so doing, it is my sincere desire and hope of it actually happening.
My Vision A personal vision statement is a written description of the lifestyle you want to be enjoying
at a given point in the future (Pearson, Thomas, 2003). I actually have two competing visions. If I were
somehow to inherit a large sum of money, I would love to open a state of the art facility where kids
could come after school and may do their homework. Once they completed their homework they would
have a place to decompress after a long day at school. The facility would have a video arcade,
basketball, tennis, and racquet ball court. There would also be an Olympic style swimming pool. In
addition, I would have a computer room as well as a state of the art library. I would hire tech geeks to
teach, train, and equip our kids on computer technology and maybe even hire someone to teach a
foreign language. I would have a music room for those who wish to learn how to play a

Music Is The Sounds And Lack Of Sounds Of A Musical Work
Jae Yun
Professor Jonathan Beckett
MUS 124 – 255W
July 31, 2015
MUS124 Long Paper One of the basic ideas defining music is outlined in the Professor Michael B.
Bakan's second proposition: that the sounds and lack of sounds of a musical work are organized.
Throughout the past years, many professors of ethnomusicology and music in general have attempted
to define exactly what music is. Although there was and is a lot of discussion on the matter, most
researchers began with the notion that music is essentially organized sound. However, there are cases
where sounds are organized but humans do not consider them as music. Some of these instances
include speech, poetry, and natural sounds. Due to this primitive and elementary basis that music is
organized sound, researchers have attempted to create conditions or categories which music falls into.
Despite the conflicting opinions on the different characteristics, I, along with most researchers, believe
that although music is indeed a form of organized sounds and silences, this definition is too broad to
accurately define music. Every form of music we hear includes an organized framework in which
sounds come together. Although music is organized sound, it can be argued that not all organized sound
is music. For example, language and human speech consists of words, which essentially organized
sounds. However, we do not consider a conversation between people as music. Another example is
natural sound we hear from the environment.

Barbara Kruger : Art History Archive
According to the Art History Archive, Barbara Kruger is an American conceptual artist born in
Newark, New Jersey in 1945. She attended Syracuse University in 1964 where her interests in graphic
design, poetry, and writing developed. A year later, Kruger moved to New York and attended Parsons
School of Design where she was exposed to the creative spheres of photography, fashion, and editorial
design. In 1966, she left Parsons to work for Condé Nast Publications and soon after began to work at

The red text box is the focal point of the work and takes up about one–fourth of the composition.
Barbara Kruger's Untitled (I Shop Therefore I Am) is a visually simple but bold work that evokes
postmodern themes including media, popular culture, and consumer cultures. The daring and
aggressive red text box draws the viewer's eye directly to the bold phrase in white font. "Kruger
reformulated René Descartes' philosophical proposition of cognitive existence, 'I think therefore I am',
into a motto for the hyper–ventilated acquisitive world of the 1980s boom time..." (Engberg).
Descartes' theory implies that as long as an individual is simply thinking there is an active engagement
that is occurring that justifies a meaningful existence. Thus, thinking gives substance to an individual's
life. By replacing the word "think" with the word "shop" Kruger is making a social commentary on
society's shift from cognitive value to material value and exposes the tie between consumer culture and
personal identity. We are no longer defined by what we think but by what we buy; as a result, our
culture has become so overwhelmed with materialism that people have become more reliant on the
products that they buy and the materials that they own to define who they are. The contrasting themes
of intellectual value versus material value in Kruger's work instigates the viewer to

A Scientific Management, Taylorism, And Management
F.W Taylor introduced a scientific management, Taylorism, in the early 20th century to solve the
problem of inefficiency. The aim of Taylorism is to maixmise productivity and minimise waste of
resources using specialisation of labour. There are three main components of Taylorism and it will be
discussed in detail in the later paragraphs.
Firstly, according to Rose, M. (1978), Taylor believes that the root of inefficiency is the slacking and
soldiering of workers. And irrational and incompetent of managers. He further explained the idea of
inefficacy by stating 'managers are incompetent is because of the growth in scale and technical
complexity of industry'. In order to dealt with the slackness of worker, the worker should be closely
control and supervise by inspector. This ensures that no one will shirk during work and the chance of
worker making mistakes are minimized. Hence worker will produce the maximum effort which leads
to increase in productivity. Taylorism also suggested the use of hierarchy organization structure which
means separating the decision maker, usually the managers and the people who receive orders from the
managers and implement it. This is because he believes that people with no management skills will not
be able to make a right decision and hence may leads to a waste of resources. Besides supervision,
Taylor asserted that managers should apply their professional knowledge on managing their worker
and plan the work. For example, calculating the

Coming into this event setting was confusing, set up inside in the cafeteria in a small section towards
the front made it confusing for those of us who have never been in the cafeteria. The setting alone
seems extremely unordinary for a Belly Dancer's venue as most of her body that should be covered in
cafeteria are such as her arm pits and her exposed feet. Her intricate body movements mirror that of the
musical instruments and beats to the song as she swings her hips from side to side. Her introduction of
the prop used which is a sword seemed unique, twirling around in circles that makes it flow in with her
choreography. Going so far as to balance the sword on her head and gripping it with her teeth which
takes a lot of skill to do. Watching the rhythm of her body in sync with the music shows how much
exercise in involved as we can see her stomach muscles flexing and expanding as if she is doing

A leader should be able to inspire those around them. If someone is inspired and motivated to do
something they will do it without being forced to. I am able to inspire others by showing them how
good they are and what they can become. If someone has a goal to work towards they are more likely
to improve. I will help inspire the players in my section so we can become the best we can be.
Communication is also a key skill to being a leader. If the leader and the people around them aren't able
to communicate then nothing will get done. I have learned in the past that not communicating can lead
to the downfall to a piece or group. If a member of the section isn't aware that they are playing
something wrong it will never be fixed. As a leader I will be able to help others improve and
communicate with them what they can do in the future to prevent the same mistake from happening.
I am able to learn music fast and will use that advantage to help others with their parts. To be able to

Richard Rodriguez "Real Work" Essay Analysis

English 111
September 12th, 2012
"Real Work" by Richard Rodriguez is about a young man struggling with self–confidence. He seeks to
build his self–esteem by participating in real manual labor over a summer job. When Rodriguez is
offered a job working on a construction site he doesn't hesitate to say yes. His father had always told
him he could never understand the hardships of "Real work', and Rodriguez felt that completing this
summer job would make his father proud of him, and in many ways consider him to be a "Real man".
Richard Rodriguez was raised in America, unlike his family. He never really knew anything different.

The father figure depicted in this story could be viewed in a few different ways. At first I thought the
authors father was kind of a stuck up, rude man, who was sour about the advantages of living a normal
life in American society. I felt that he had made his son feel like he could never do what he had down.
If a parental figure makes you feel like that, there tends to be a reaction. It could be positive or
negative. In Rodriguez's case he took what his father said, and harnessed it into a positive learning
experience. When I thought about more in depth, it became clear that Rodriguez's father wasn't putting
his son down at all. He was simply explaining to his son how different their worlds where. He was
stressing that although his son had more opportunity, and was presented with much greater potential to
be excellent, that the work he did growing up was much harder, and tough than most people realize.
His father was just making it known that in his working years he did not have many options as to
career choices. But on the other hand I can easily see why the author felt that his father had challenged
him. Much like I felt my father was challenging me. Rodriguez felt like he needed to prove that he
could perform the same task that his fathers use to do to provide for their families. Working with you're
your hands, completing messy, strenuous, sometimes painful jobs was almost a part of Hispanic
culture. A part of

The Leadership Practice Inventory that I took at the beginning of my Student Orientation Counselor or

skills were further explained in The Student Leadership Challenge text by the authors James Kouzes
and Barry Posner (2014) the different practices of leadership were: Model the Way, Inspire a Shared
Vision, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act, and Encourage the Heart. These principles each
have their own challenges and frustrations, and as a leader they have helped me realize what I can

This was a skill that focused on helping your followers know that you are proud of them and the
contributions that they have either done or helped you with. This was hard for me to remember to do in
the moment, but during debriefing on orientation days it was nice to celebrate our accomplishments or
how people worked through hard situations. These debriefings brought everyone together and created a
spirit of community, which is one way the book focused in encouraging the Heart (Kouzes & Posner,
2014). Another skill that was something a truly focused on during the summer was Enabling Others to
Act. It was based on fostering collaboration and strengthening others (Kouzes & Posner, 2014). I found
this was a hard skill for me to work on because I like to do things my way. I worked through it by truly
listening to others ideas, and the fact that I was a new S.O.C. I wanted to learn as much as I could from
the returning members of my team. My skit group created a strong bond of trust in each other to get
our work done in a timely manner. The last skill was Challenge the Process and this for me has always
been a hard skill to get my self to do. This has been my main focus this summer, and I continue to work
on it to this day.
Challenge the Process focused on going outside the box of the organization or group your working

Orientation Questionnaire For Sports Psychology
I recently took a Work Orientation Questionnaire for Sport Psychology. I scored highest on the work
orientation, but I decided to research and talk about mastery orientation. Even though mastery
orientation was the lowest score of the three, I feel like I can relate a little bit more by viewing the
questions being asked within the Questionnaire. Readers, I am not disagreeing with the results of the
quiz; however, I am expanding on an area that personally fits me better. This is for people who are
focused on developing and progressing skills, but also for gaining additional knowledge. If readers are
looking for a more descripted definition, it's best defined as using the goal of learning and mastering
the task according to standards set by you. Students find approval with the work and are not conflicted
by external factors. These students also tend to participate in work or activities that increase their
learning, which involves more attention, collecting information at a higher level, and are open to
asking questions.
I plan on being a basketball coach at the junior high or high school level. I want to talk to the readers
about mastery orientation within sport performance. Most players, regardless of sport, are ego–
orientated people due to the theme of winning or success. Before I continue, I am not suggesting that I
prefer all my players to be just mastery oriented. I believe a positive ego oriented athlete can reflect
positively and help with the mastery oriented part.

Computer Interaction Has Changed Within The Economy
Within recent years human computer interaction has changed within the economy I will discuss three
factors which interlink with this. These are increased automation, productivity and varied working
environments.
Increased automation
o Bank
Firstly you have increased automation within a banking environment you now have three main ways of
banking. 1. Online 2. Telephone Banking 3. Branch most major banks have introduced productive
ways of banking to suit economy. Know two individuals bank the same everyone likes something
different you will find that generation will fuel the channel in which and individual will decide to bank.
By introducing online and telephone banking economy have no necessary need to go into their local

This is a prime example of how changes within the economy are effecting those who work for the
banks and also customers of the bank.
It could be argued that making changes can help economy as more avenues have been introduced
giving customers more choice. This allows for any customer who works antisocial hours take control
of their banking, it allows for every customer to be treated fairly as everyone has the same
opportunities with their banking. For example savings account online normally have a higher interest
rate to those offered in branch these accounts are optional for every customer however you need to
bank online to manage the account therefore you automatically introducing yourself to a new avenue of
banking.
It could be argued that making changes is harming the economy as manual labour is taking a cut
therefore more individuals are unemployed. More unemployment puts a strain on the government this
would then be costing the government.
Increased automation
o retail (Inc. stock levels/reordering)
Within the retail environment there has also been many changes which have had a knock on effect with
the economy. The two many factors which need to be consider would be stock levels and reordering of
stock.
So for reordering stock and checking stock levels you can invest in an accounting software which will
check your stock levels on a regular bases allowing for less labouring staff to be

Personal Note On Personal Profile
Week Three Journal Personal Profile Driven, strong, and tactful are the three power words I choose to
descries my personally. I am generally pretty ambitious person, and when I set my mind to something I
won't stop until I feel like I reached my objective. The weighty thing to me is that I'm not motivated by
folks admiration and I'm not bogged down by folks disapproval. I'm just trying to work at the ultimate
stage I can. For me, being strong is just about being able to stick it out through great hardship. For
instance, having the capital, the cerebral services, and the physical competence to challenge questions
of all sorts. My character displays confidence. I have the strength and endurance to face a test without

I was attained to value others, love frankly, welcome folks into your quarters with open arms, supply
them nutrition, life happens over food and be a polite entertainer (even if you're having a awful day,
they're company). Folks normally obtain enjoyment from seeing the contentment of others because by
outline others concern us. I was taught to convey frankly, grant folks the benefit of the doubt, be
upright because integrity alone succeeds, work hard, test yourself, nothing is given to you, chuckle
often, and be blunt. Honorable rules and laws are the elements of fair examination because they are the
beliefs from which leadership can be attained along the trail to a conclusion. It play an essential portion
in the outcome ruling process from its opening, with the credit and framing of the fair concern, through
the assessment finding steps, and until an envisioned verdict is done and structured when necessary. As
we go on in existence, we will always acquire a little something new every day, whether it is about
ourselves, beliefs, means, or other beings. My present status in the program of study has taught me that
moral performances can be restructured and that there are discoverers of dissimilar upright actions. I
have roots in a religious family. There are so many gain and correct things acquired at clergy. In

St. Johns Lutheran Church
For as long as I can remember, St. Johns Lutheran Church has been like a second home. It is the church
where I was baptized (for a second time), took first communion and affirmed my faith through
confirmation. I belonged at St. Johns. I was a member of St. Johns.
As I entered adulthood, I had a natural instinct for organization and leadership and I had a strong
interest in using those talents to serve the church. I worked with youth groups, participated in WELCA,
served on the church council and it seemed there wasn't a task I would not take on. Many people,
myself included, anticipated the next logical stop on my journey would be seminary.
But I didn't feel or hear the call at the time.
Nearly two decades later, I started to put the pieces of the puzzle together. It would start with a simple
but powerful statement, "We are called to make disciples, not members." That statement would lead me
to reflect on and seek out a better understanding of what it meant to be a disciple. That, in turn, led me
to study and reflect on the concept of servanthood. I realized that developing a more personal and
authentic relationship with Christ required more than just attending worship, working in the church and
simply believing in Him. I realized that living a Christ–like life required a different way of thinking, a
different way of living.
The years that followed were filled with more questions than answers. It was a time of skepticism
about the work of the church and how much time

Reflective Essay Work
When it comes to work, most of my "work" is comprised of personal projects or school work––I don't
have a job in the sense of something that will make me money. I work best when i am told exactly what
my tasks will be and when I have to do them. I can do self directed work, but it is harder for me. I think
it's because when there is someone who is telling me that a certain task is essential, I am afraid of what
will happen if I don't meet the deadline, whereas I don't scare myself as much. As for the the specific
kinds of work I like to do, I enjoy working with both my hands and my mind equally. I don't enjoy
super labor–intensive jobs, but I like jobs where I still get to create something. That said, I also need
proof that what I am doing is actually productive, and worth something. What I make does not have to
be a physical object, but I wouldn't be able to stand a job where I know what I do might not even be
used. I do not have an official job. All of the work that I have done has either been for school or for
myself, and a lot of my personal projects are writing or art based, since I want them to lead directly
into practicing skills for a possible future career. These things might not be considered "work," but they
are still productive, and the fact that I have thought about how these activities might lead into a future
career might suggest that I have thought about how much effort and time getting and working at that
career will take. In fact, I have both over and

An Article On The Missing Link Of Success

  • 1. An Article On The Missing Link Of Success The Missing Link #4: Productivity By Kyre Adept Nov 14, 2012 Are you feeling stuck or paralyzed in your life or business? Do you spend way too much time on the internet, reading your email, drinking coffee or the equivalent because you just can 't focus on work? The fact is that many people are slackers and drifters, with mediocre lives... The good news is that in the teleconference series on The Missing Link to Success, we look at the five components that I have found are central to creating a prosperous life. Here 's the formula: PASSION + PURPOSE + POSITION + PRODUCTIVITY + PEACE OF MIND = PROSPERITY As well as the article called The Missing Link to Success, which provides an overview of the whole series, there is an article for each of these 'Five Ps ', so look for them wherever you found this article! I 'm going to assume you 've read the summary article plus the articles on Passion, Purpose and Position, because each components builds on the previous ones. Once you have reset the first three Ps, you are ready to improve your capacity to be PRODUCTIVE. What does this mean? Why is it important to be productive? The main dictionary definition of productive is: "yielding favorable or useful results; being constructive; effective in achieving specified results." (There are also specialized meanings in economics, medicine and linguistics, but the main meanings will do.) In work terms, productivity means being able to focus on your assigned (or assumed) tasks, and to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Currently there are 40% of the workers that are not happy working particularly in the afternoon and night shifts, of the amount of staff that have left the company and even express interest in leaving the company, 90% have been from the workers who are rostered on the afternoon and night shifts. • 5. Work Effectively with Diversity Work Effectively With Diversity SECTION 1: RECOGNISE AND VALUE INDIVIDUAL DIFFERENCES Assessment Strategy: Activities Activity 1 1. Explain stereotyping and the reasons why it is not good to let stereotypes affect your relationship with others. Stereotyping is holding the thought that the members of a particular group are all of the same character or thinking. For example: that all accountants are boring, all red heads are bad tempered, all skinny people are anorexic, all girls play with dolls, all boys play with cars, etc. Stereotyping makes assumptions about members of a particular group, solely because of their membership in that group. In my opinion, it isn't good to let stereotypes affect my relationship with others because: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking back now, if placed in that same situation, I would not react by confronting the person. I now realise that she probably wasn't even aware of my feelings about growing up in South Africa and how a comment like that would affect me. She probably just said it because it is within her family/cultural upbringing to use terms like that in a joking way. I would now be more tolerant when faced with a situation like that and brush it aside. Stereotyping that women are bad drivers: On a regular occasion, when driving with males in a car, and there is somebody on the road making an error in driving, the comment always comes up that the driver must be a female. I know that it is said in jest, but it is a typical stereotyping comment which is made, which seems to be accepted by society. I don't drive, so I don't take offence to the comment, but I do stand up for other female drivers when the comment is made though, because I wouldn't be surprised if other females, who do drive, do take offence to such a comment. Learning what I have now though, if a comment like that is said, then I won't react to it. I will be tolerant towards the person saying it because they are obviously repeating something which is commonly said within society and said in jest. Even though the comment isn't acceptable to me, I will learn to tolerate it. 3. What can you do to overcome these effects of stereotyping? 1. I should learn to be more tolerant and become more aware ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Essay on Banana Time Case BANANA TIME CASE This case deals specifically with the members of the "clicking" workgroup. The problem appears to be a total lack of supervision and management oversight as the work location is completely isolated from other areas of the shop floor. This lack of supervision has led to a number of concerns. Specifically, the issues of horseplay, extended breaks and operator disruptions, which all lead to a loss of production, are clearly visible during daily operations. These problems, while on the surface may seem trivial, the loss of production and absence of concern for operator safety need to be addressed. If the working group throughput quota is being met, some leniency could be afforded for the extended breaks and operator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Third, because the work is not mentally stimulating or challenging, it is recommended that workspace modification be made. These could include additional or improved natural lighting, as well as the introduction of music. A radio could provide enough mental stimulation that would help keep the operators focused on the "clicking" operation, while also reducing the amount of verbal conversations and discourses on various subjects. Of course, this brings new issues which include; musical preferences of each operator may be significantly different. Because George is the team lead, he should be responsible for maintaining proper behavior of the operators of the equipment, as well as, adhering to the guidelines for the appropriate length of work breaks. If this means the enforcement of existing, or the development of new policies, George's roles and responsibilities should be explicitly defined to include this task. If he is not fulfilling these duties, he should be coached in private so that he understands the importance of maintaining professional mannerisms around the dangerous "clicking" equipment. Finally, the issue of the operators being overqualified is a serious problem to consider. Solutions to this problem could include rotational assignments outside the "clicking" group to provide some variety in work being performed. Some benefits of rotating employees through the ... Now I still feel highly honored to hear Maurice Duruflé's Requiem–one of the most beautiful and greatest musical works of the 20th century. As an international student from China and have no religion belief, it's totally brand new and unusual experience for me to have this special chance to open my eyes widely to see the magnificent church. This opportunity is of great benefit to me to learn Catholic Church and acquaintance with religious faith. What I saw at St. James is the first person lifted the cross with corpus hang on it. The kingdom come. They will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. • 11. Service Learning Team Reflection Paper Working with the Service Learning team has shown many of my classmates just what exactly the real world looks like. For many of them I assume this was there first time doing a project of this nature and seeing this sort of chaos. Luckily for many of them this project was handled mainly by a few strong leaders of the class and the majority of them only needed to follow behind and assist with very small mundane tasks. Although some tried to help and get involved it was very noticeable that their efforts were halfhearted, and quickly they would back out of conversation and sit quietly waiting for a decision to be made. Although this sounds harsh and condescending it's by no means meant to take away from their efforts. They all showed up when told to and they each interacted with the children or at least helped us get ready for the activities. As my part in this group I took on ensuring the snack was provided, and that each station had what they needed and was ready to begin their activity. I personally Handled our budget Purchased Delivered Briefed each group on what the snack was Which one had what in it so as to avoid any allergies As well as that they would have extra and should hold off giving it out as everyone wouldn't be able to get seconds. • 13. Latent Defect Essay Mike Christensen December 10, 2009 CM 385: Section 1 Final Paper How Can A Contractor Avoid Liability for Defective Work? Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how one manages the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown and disappear in the raging waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of faith into the flailing wind. As said by Leo F. Buscalglia, "The person who risks nothing – does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn... and grow... and live." It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace apartment complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The parents of the child claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence in constructing the stoop without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v. Schofield case, which states, "We have not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the duty of making a machine accident proof or foolproof." The court also noted that the complex had been used without accident for six years and that it did not conceal any dangers or defective work that would not have been found by a reasonable inspection. The outcome of the case proved that the pleading did not contain any allegation of a defect, and that the liability rested upon the parents of the child. Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future claims as long as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably been identified. Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is classified as a latent defect, the risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back to the contractor. Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Farm Girl Summary of Farm Girl Anderson Jude ENG 115 Professor Chris Swindell Strayer University October 23rd, 2013 The short story Farm Girl is an in depth look at life through the eyes of a young girl growing up with her family on a farm. Throughout this non–fiction story the author Jessica Hemauer, does an amazing job of describing her surroundings to pull the reader in and make them feel like they are there with her. She begins as a younger girl describing how difficult it is for a child to awake from a deep slumber, and immediately get to work doing jobs some grown men would cringe at. "Cleaning out various huts and pens and laying down fresh straw are part of our daily duties" (Hemauer, 2011 p. 84). She continues by explaining how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She uses her years of experience from working on the farm to her advantage, and is finally able to do all the things she has always thought to be impossible. "I join the homecoming club, audition for musicals and plays, serve as the president of the student council as well as president of my class" (Hemauer, 2011 p. 86). Before ending the story she tells the reader how all of her activities have not made her feel any less different then she did before. However, she comes to the realization that if it had not been for all of those years of hard work on the farm, then she would not be able to manage her time as well as she does to be able to participate in all those activities, and at the same time hold down a job, and perform better than others in the work place (Hemauer, 2011). The entire story I felt as if I was there on the farm with the young girl. I was drawn to read it more than once not because it was difficult to understand, but because the descriptions were so vivid I did not want to overlook anything. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the short story Farm Girl, and would recommend it to anyone that is looking for an interesting story to read. References Hemauer, J. (2011) Farm Girl. At the premiere, in La Scala, Milan on April 25th, 1926 the work was performed as written by Puccini, however two supplementary scenes were completed and added by Franco Alfano following the premiere (Edmonton Opera, Program Notes, p.17). Puccini worked with two librettists while writing Turandot: Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni (Edmonton Opera, Program Notes, p.17). This musical work is a late romantic opera, with an emphasis on emotions being prevalent throughout the opera (Kerman & Tomlinson, Listen, 8th edition, 2015, p. 274). As the conductor took his place in the pit, the audience began the performance with a loud applause. When the curtains were drawn back, the audience's attention was immediately fixed upon the stage. As the characters began to file in, one's eyes were easily drawn to the characters of wealth and importance as their costumes were more colourful and lavish then those of the chorus. The music accompanying this image drew the audience even further into the performance as its stylistic features helped to portray a sense of urgency and warning. Classical Archives (2008) have noted that Francesco Landini was the most celebrated musician in the first school of polyphonic music in Italy. They also say that Landini was born in Fiesole on the outskirts of Florence and that he was the son of Jacopo Del Casentino, a painter and student of Giotto. It also states that when Francesco Landini was a child, he suffered from smallpox and as a result of this, left him blind for the rest of his life. He dealt with this by taking refuge in music. In the piece of music I am studying, there are only 3 accidentals. One being F sharp another is C sharp and last is B flat. Although in this time period, music wouldn't have a major or minor key as such, when listening to this piece of music it would be easy to come to the conclusion that the piece sounds more major than minor. However when reading the translation of the song "She will never have mercy, this lady of mine, if you do not see it, love" it will suggest that the ballata is of a minor key. Francesco Landini's 'Non avra ma pieta' does not have a musical background as such. Like many others of Landini's work 'Non avra ma pieta' does not have a publish data. This then makes it hard to know how old Landini was when he composed this piece and also whereabouts he composed it. Most of his other 154 or so works were composed in his home town Fiesole, Florence (where he also died) so I would guess that this ballata was also composed there as well. When looking at the melody in the ballata 'Non Avra ma pieta' it will be important to break it down into section. These would be: range, shape and movement. The range of this piece is in a medium arrangement, most notes for the treble clef are in the middle of the stave throughout the piece with some high and low notes. The ranges of notes used are not of a narrow range as they move up and down the scale freely. The motivation could have been reduced if the work been assigned one at a time instead of all at the start allowing people to focus on one thing at a time and seeing the list of work get smaller. A problem with using this flat management with free development is that there are not a lot of examples to follow with many companies using agile. The Importance Of Team Dynamics And Communication Throughout my semester in SciTech, perhaps the most important thing that I took away from my experience was the importance of team dynamics and communication in collaborative projects, and this is particularly true in engineering fields, where it is absolutely essential to success, and, in my opinion, significantly more important than the skill of knowledge of individual team members after a certain point. Every team that I was part of during SciTech, the team for the semester challenge especially, had numerous issues in cooperation and communication, and conflict repeatedly arises, though we eventually learned how best to function together and were able to successfully complete the challenge before D4 with a significant amount of time to spare, though we did have some issues with time management in regard to the Final Report later. I have found that, although relevant skills to the task at hand, proficiency with SolidWorks or a general aptitude for mechanical engineering for example, organizational abilities, or other things of that nature, these are effectively useless without a developer work ethic, a willingness to accept feedback and learn, the ability to effectively resolve disputes, and good communication, all of which are immensely valuable in a collaborative setting. For example, one of my group members spent more than a week on the quantitative analysis section of the FDR, but I ended up having to redo large portions of it anyway (logbook 3/23), which ... With the start of my senior year quickly approaching, I was already balancing sports, grades, college applications, and now my employer was asking me to step up from a shift leader to assistant manager. I always had the thoughts, if I were the manager I would do this or I would do that. The same thoughts everyone else was having, except I wasn't saying unrealistic comments like; we would have two–hour lunches and I wouldn't make anyone work Friday nights. I was looking at how personnel were used and how their strengths were not being maximized. I was critiquing the processes that had been in place well before I came around, that had never been questioned. I was young and had big plans for my future that didn't include anything to do with management. Ralph and Piggy begin to expose the problems with a group divided when scolding Jack. "'I was chief, and you were going to do what I said. You talk. But you can't even build huts– then you go off hunting and let out the fire [...] This job was too much. We needed everyone. [...] You could have had everyone when the shelters were finished. But you had to hunt–'" (70–71 Golding) The followers are some of the most important and influential people in the success or deterioration of a society. Ralph was their leader, but not only did people not listen to him, they also didn't do what he told them to do. Without enough followers listening to him, they were unable to keep the fire going, Ralph's main goal which could've helped bring rescue to them. It was much more difficult, and the boys were unable to efficiently and effectively work to accomplish their goal, the main event that lead to the group fights. Since Jack and some other boys didn't listen to their leader, they not only hurt their chances of rescue and survival, but split the group, turning friends into enemies which lead to multiple unnecessary and unwarranted deaths on the island. For proponents, the approach has been used to diagnose and treat a diverse set of workplace ills, including poor communication, sluggish innovation, absenteeism, antimanagement sentiment, stress, and lack of creativity. Deal and Kennedy (1999) even suggested that if the "Fun Quotient" is high in a firm, then employees "will be more willing to commit themselves . . . people will pour their hearts and souls into what they do . . . it produces better results for everyone concerned–employers, employees, and society at large" (p. 234). According to these authors, cultures that promote a childlike frivolity and playfulness are especially important today following the wave of downsizing that beleaguered corporate capitalism in the early 1990s. Perhaps echoing the current interest in corporate spirituality and enchantment (Casey, 2002; Kline & Izzo, 1999), they claimed that managers must now try to counter labor discontent by fundamentally changing the meaning of work among employees and managers alike. This article critically examines a managed culture of fun in a communications organization. It will be argued that an important aspect of this management approach is the symbolic blurring of the boundary that has traditionally demarcated work and nonwork experiences. This boundary of course has antecedents that can be traced back to the industrial revolution whereby home, lifestyle, recreation, and play were severed from the act of labor by the ... • 49. Personal Vision Statement : My Vision Introduction In this paper, I will outline my personal vision statement. This vision and mission will help determine the steps I need to take now in order to become the type of leader that others will follow. Next, I discuss those internal and external obstacles which may prevent me from achieving my goals. Lastly, I will identify the steps I will take to overcome or mitigate those obstacles. In conclusion, by outlining my desired personal vision statement I hope to have a picture or image upon which I can reflect regularly. By so doing, it is my sincere desire and hope of it actually happening. My Vision A personal vision statement is a written description of the lifestyle you want to be enjoying at a given point in the future (Pearson, Thomas, 2003). I actually have two competing visions. If I were somehow to inherit a large sum of money, I would love to open a state of the art facility where kids could come after school and may do their homework. Once they completed their homework they would have a place to decompress after a long day at school. The facility would have a video arcade, basketball, tennis, and racquet ball court. There would also be an Olympic style swimming pool. In addition, I would have a computer room as well as a state of the art library. I would hire tech geeks to teach, train, and equip our kids on computer technology and maybe even hire someone to teach a foreign language. I would have a music room for those who wish to learn how to play a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Music Is The Sounds And Lack Of Sounds Of A Musical Work Jae Yun Professor Jonathan Beckett MUS 124 – 255W July 31, 2015 MUS124 Long Paper One of the basic ideas defining music is outlined in the Professor Michael B. Bakan's second proposition: that the sounds and lack of sounds of a musical work are organized. Throughout the past years, many professors of ethnomusicology and music in general have attempted to define exactly what music is. Although there was and is a lot of discussion on the matter, most researchers began with the notion that music is essentially organized sound. However, there are cases where sounds are organized but humans do not consider them as music. Some of these instances include speech, poetry, and natural sounds. Due to this primitive and elementary basis that music is organized sound, researchers have attempted to create conditions or categories which music falls into. Despite the conflicting opinions on the different characteristics, I, along with most researchers, believe that although music is indeed a form of organized sounds and silences, this definition is too broad to accurately define music. Every form of music we hear includes an organized framework in which sounds come together. Although music is organized sound, it can be argued that not all organized sound is music. For example, language and human speech consists of words, which essentially organized sounds. However, we do not consider a conversation between people as music. Another example is natural sound we hear from the environment. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A year later, Kruger moved to New York and attended Parsons School of Design where she was exposed to the creative spheres of photography, fashion, and editorial design. In 1966, she left Parsons to work for Condé Nast Publications and soon after began to work at Mademoiselle magazine where she was promoted to head designer. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The red text box is the focal point of the work and takes up about one–fourth of the composition. Barbara Kruger's Untitled (I Shop Therefore I Am) is a visually simple but bold work that evokes postmodern themes including media, popular culture, and consumer cultures. The daring and aggressive red text box draws the viewer's eye directly to the bold phrase in white font. "Kruger reformulated René Descartes' philosophical proposition of cognitive existence, 'I think therefore I am', into a motto for the hyper–ventilated acquisitive world of the 1980s boom time..." (Engberg). Descartes' theory implies that as long as an individual is simply thinking there is an active engagement that is occurring that justifies a meaningful existence. Thus, thinking gives substance to an individual's life. By replacing the word "think" with the word "shop" Kruger is making a social commentary on society's shift from cognitive value to material value and exposes the tie between consumer culture and personal identity. We are no longer defined by what we think but by what we buy; as a result, our culture has become so overwhelmed with materialism that people have become more reliant on the products that they buy and the materials that they own to define who they are. The contrasting themes of intellectual value versus material value in Kruger's work instigates the viewer to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The aim of Taylorism is to maixmise productivity and minimise waste of resources using specialisation of labour. There are three main components of Taylorism and it will be discussed in detail in the later paragraphs. Firstly, according to Rose, M. (1978), Taylor believes that the root of inefficiency is the slacking and soldiering of workers. And irrational and incompetent of managers. He further explained the idea of inefficacy by stating 'managers are incompetent is because of the growth in scale and technical complexity of industry'. In order to dealt with the slackness of worker, the worker should be closely control and supervise by inspector. This ensures that no one will shirk during work and the chance of worker making mistakes are minimized. Hence worker will produce the maximum effort which leads to increase in productivity. Taylorism also suggested the use of hierarchy organization structure which means separating the decision maker, usually the managers and the people who receive orders from the managers and implement it. This is because he believes that people with no management skills will not be able to make a right decision and hence may leads to a waste of resources. Besides supervision, Taylor asserted that managers should apply their professional knowledge on managing their worker and plan the work. For example, calculating the ... The setting alone seems extremely unordinary for a Belly Dancer's venue as most of her body that should be covered in cafeteria are such as her arm pits and her exposed feet. Her intricate body movements mirror that of the musical instruments and beats to the song as she swings her hips from side to side. Her introduction of the prop used which is a sword seemed unique, twirling around in circles that makes it flow in with her choreography. Going so far as to balance the sword on her head and gripping it with her teeth which takes a lot of skill to do. Richard Rodriguez "Real Work" Essay Analysis D'Auvray Xan D'Auvray Kevin Knight English 111 September 12th, 2012 "Real Work" by Richard Rodriguez is about a young man struggling with self–confidence. He seeks to build his self–esteem by participating in real manual labor over a summer job. When Rodriguez is offered a job working on a construction site he doesn't hesitate to say yes. His father had always told him he could never understand the hardships of "Real work', and Rodriguez felt that completing this summer job would make his father proud of him, and in many ways consider him to be a "Real man". Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The father figure depicted in this story could be viewed in a few different ways. At first I thought the authors father was kind of a stuck up, rude man, who was sour about the advantages of living a normal life in American society. I felt that he had made his son feel like he could never do what he had down. If a parental figure makes you feel like that, there tends to be a reaction. It could be positive or negative. In Rodriguez's case he took what his father said, and harnessed it into a positive learning experience. When I thought about more in depth, it became clear that Rodriguez's father wasn't putting his son down at all. He was simply explaining to his son how different their worlds where. He was stressing that although his son had more opportunity, and was presented with much greater potential to be excellent, that the work he did growing up was much harder, and tough than most people realize. His father was just making it known that in his working years he did not have many options as to career choices. But on the other hand I can easily see why the author felt that his father had challenged him. Much like I felt my father was challenging me. Rodriguez felt like he needed to prove that he could perform the same task that his fathers use to do to provide for their families. These debriefings brought everyone together and created a spirit of community, which is one way the book focused in encouraging the Heart (Kouzes & Posner, 2014). Another skill that was something a truly focused on during the summer was Enabling Others to Act. It was based on fostering collaboration and strengthening others (Kouzes & Posner, 2014). I found this was a hard skill for me to work on because I like to do things my way. I worked through it by truly listening to others ideas, and the fact that I was a new S.O.C. This is for people who are focused on developing and progressing skills, but also for gaining additional knowledge. If readers are looking for a more descripted definition, it's best defined as using the goal of learning and mastering the task according to standards set by you. Students find approval with the work and are not conflicted by external factors. These students also tend to participate in work or activities that increase their learning, which involves more attention, collecting information at a higher level, and are open to asking questions. It is the church where I was baptized (for a second time), took first communion and affirmed my faith through confirmation. I belonged at St. Johns. I was a member of St. Johns. As I entered adulthood, I had a natural instinct for organization and leadership and I had a strong interest in using those talents to serve the church. I worked with youth groups, participated in WELCA, served on the church council and it seemed there wasn't a task I would not take on. Many people, myself included, anticipated the next logical stop on my journey would be seminary. But I didn't feel or hear the call at the time. Nearly two decades later, I started to put the pieces of the puzzle together. It would start with a simple but powerful statement, "We are called to make disciples, not members." That statement would lead me to reflect on and seek out a better understanding of what it meant to be a disciple. That, in turn, led me to study and reflect on the concept of servanthood. I realized that developing a more personal and authentic relationship with Christ required more than just attending worship, working in the church and simply believing in Him. I realized that living a Christ–like life required a different way of thinking, a different way of living. The years that followed were filled with more questions than answers. I work best when i am told exactly what my tasks will be and when I have to do them. I can do self directed work, but it is harder for me. I think it's because when there is someone who is telling me that a certain task is essential, I am afraid of what will happen if I don't meet the deadline, whereas I don't scare myself as much. As for the the specific kinds of work I like to do, I enjoy working with both my hands and my mind equally. I don't enjoy super labor–intensive jobs, but I like jobs where I still get to create something. That said, I also need proof that what I am doing is actually productive, and worth something.
