2. 1984 Social Context
Society ridicules both the types of people, the virtuous and the immoral and or morons. This is of
course with varying degrees and depends on the context. Society is in a sense hypocritical and very
much bipolar, society can look upon you in desirable fashion, but in another context and or situation in
profound disgust. It merely depends on the context of the whole ordeal as not all vices are created
equal, just like all wholesome, righteous and angelic acts aren t either. It s all so subjective as well and
changes with the region, time, your sex, your socioeconomic status, who your family is, your
aesthetics, or in a more elementary term, your context. Then there are the motives that are also
changing society s view ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people of society. The same goes for nerds , but with Americas over all anti intellectualism it carries
over into adulthood, unfortunately. Though if you are a very successful and rich person those things
will be overlooked, most of the time but not all the time. These scenarios display the dichotomy of our
culture, there is the main culture to which everyone belongs to and then there is second culture or even
third which depends on

3. Correctus Homo Neanderthal
If the Homo erectus, Homo Neanderthals and Homo sapiens were different from each other then they
would have the same cranial traits but they would be significantly different from each other. The traits
that would tell the difference between each other from the cranial traits would be the Skull case,
Zygomatic, Brow ridge and lastly Sagittal keel. I predicted for the Skull case for the Homo erectus
would be the smallest box line, for the skull case for the Homo Neanderthal would be the largest skull
while the Homo sapiens skull case would be round. I predicted for the Zygomatic for the Homo
erectus would have a medium sized cheek, for the zygomatic for the Homo Neanderthal would have a
thickest and largest cheek out of all of them, and lastly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason I chose the brow ridge to distinguish between the species because for each species the
brain case shifts then the brow ridge change and the vision changes depending on how big the brain
case is. The reason I chose the Zygomatic because it can tell us about their diet because it plays a
major role on how the cheek are defined. I chose the sagittal keel because it supports the brain and if it
doesn t then it won t be able to support the brain for long. The reason I chose the skull case is because
of the size different types of species have a different type of skull case that comes from the different
families. I selected these particular traits because for the Dental traits: Tooth row shape, Average size
teeth, Retro molars and lastly Mandibular prognathisim. The reason I chose the tooth row shape
because it can also tell us how their diet was and it could tell us what they ate. The reason I chose the
Retro molars because as the mandibles are more robust the gap closes. The reason I chose the average
size teeth was because it was able to tell us what was their diet and it could tell us a lot about where
they came from. I chose the Mandibular prognathisim because it defined the skull and how it was
different from each other like one was small.
I was able to determine the species of each specimen because of what traits they had and it was easily

4. Minority Groups In Canada
In a world where society is mostly driven by our faults, family can be a relative term that brings it all
back down to earth. Since societies can be extremely divided at times, it is important to have a back
bone and a community that understand your own values, customs, and practices. It has been said that
minority group families, which in Canada or the United States, could be considered anyone who isn t
Caucasian, are less stable in form and function than families who are a part of the general societal
majority . Throughout this essay, I would like to discuss how untrue this statement is. From racial and
cultural differences, to relying on each other and to growing as a unit, it is evident that minorities can
have an even stronger ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Different cultures and practices require acceptance from each dominating ethnic groups, and this can
be incredibly difficult to achieve. Growing up in the 90 s or earlier, it was particularly difficult to find
classmates, or even friends who shared the same values as you. As time goes on, society opens up to
various practices and accepts the fact that not everyone is the same. This leads to relying and
confiding in those who are of the same minority groups.
Since it can be difficult to meet people who are in the same ethnic minority, it forms a bond and sense
of reliance on one another. These families have no one but each other, which proves that their
relationship will be stronger, because their loyalty lies with each other. A Muslim family that must
pray 5 times a day for religious purposes will feel more accepted and understood with those of their
own religious group. In elementary school, I was the only Muslim until Grade 6. I did not learn to
pray or share my values with anyone because no one would understand or even accommodate my
needs. When the Muslim community began to expand, I noticed prayer groups being formed and
students had a quiet area to meet their religious needs. I wonder how different I would be if there

6. The Reasons Why The Ottoman Empire Essay
The Byzantine empire had its start in 330 AD with Constantine moving the capital of the Eastern
Roman Empire/Byzantine Empire to Constantinople, present day Istanbul. This created a capital in
which nearly no one could fully siege control over for centuries. This all changed on April 5,1453
when Sultan Mehmed II, ruler of the Ottoman Empire, determined that he would defeat the Byzantine
Empire and take Constantinople, took action and marched to the city. After a 54 day siege, on
Tuesday, May 29,1453, Sultan Mehmed II and the Muslim Turks breached the walls of the city and
brought the last Roman empire crumbling to its knees. The reasons why the Ottoman Empire was able
to bring down what once was the greatest empire in the world was due to a proper financial backing
and assistance from allies, greater number of troops, better technological advancements, the type of
leader Sultan Mehmed II was, and strategy. In 1451, Sultan Mehmed II, later known as Mehmed the
Conquerer, started his second reign of power of the Ottoman Empire. From the very beginning, he
declared it was his aim to take the city of Constantinople, no matter what the cost. This was
challenging due to the ginormous layered walls surrounding the Byzantine peninsula. First, the city
was surrounded by a moat and a layer of wall, then a second or middle wall rising above thirty feet
with 96 towers, and then the third and biggest wall rising up to 40 feet high and 15 feet thick [with] 96
towers each about 60

I believe in not planting trees. No, not in the sense which would deprive us from oxygen, rather to stop
planting trees to mask the image of industry. We mow them down and then plant them again. Not the
ones that naturally grow there, but those that come from a far away land in order to form the illusion
of the White Picket Fence Society , which is obviously a place that values diversity.
Our world is encompassed by trees. I live in a part of suburbia where it is required to have a tree in the
middle of your lawn: this is to enforce the uniformity all suburbs have. The end mission of this being
to have every individual conform to the idea of the perfect person and for them to become that idea.
Even though we keep on trying, man made houses won t ever blend in with nature. It s ironic though.

As far as story lines go within this genre, Galactic Inheritors shines and sets itself apart from other
titles when it comes to story. If a player is seeking for depth with a story, then Galactic Inheritors is
designed with that in mind. It s a lore filled universe that is telling a story and that will warrant

10. Pearl Harbor Accuracy Essay
Pearl Harbor
The movie Pearl Harbor is historically inaccurate because of the fact that it doesn t have a correct
order of events, appropriate weaponry and because of it s usage of props that were unavailable at the
time. First of all in the movie Pearl Harbor, the actual sequence of events that occured on December 7,
1941 was that the japanese sent two seperate waves of fighter planes to attack the U.S Naval base of
Pearl Harbor. (Memorials) However in the movie Pearl Harbor the attack on the naval base was
depicted as being just a single wave of japanese fighter pilots. This greatly affects the movies
credibility of being historically accurate by providing a false picture of what happened at the attack of
the Naval base.
Also another discrepancy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Hughes) As well as in the movie there is a couple scenes that show three guns mounted to each wing
of the fighter plane but really the models of planes at the time only had two mounted on each wing.
(Pearl Harbor) Also another thing wrong with the movie is how the use of korean vehicles appeared
specifically the jeep that the commander is sitting in, the M 80s. The korean M 80s were invented in
around the 1950 s so it could have been around during the attack on Pearl Harbor. (Jeep) Also another
thing that proved to be historically inaccurate in the film was the the props they used. One being the
types of cigarettes they were smoking. The characters from the movie were smoking Marlboro Lights
which didn t even appear anywhere until the 70 s! (Hughes) Another prop that was used in the movie
that was incorrect for the time period of the movie which was set in the 1940 s was how most of the
characters would wear rimless sunglasses, something that definitely wasn t around during that period
of time. The rimless sunglasses weren t invented until the 60 s.

carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, caramel color, sugar, phosphoric acid, caffeine, citric acid
and natural flavors (Pendergrast, 2000, p.6). The natural flavors are where they differ. Coke includes a
secret ingredient known as Merchandise 7X, which sounds all mysterious and daring (Pendergrast,

However, a consumer backlash led to Coca Cola quickly introducing a modified version of the
original formula (removing the expensive Haitian lime oil and changing the sweetener to corn syrup)
as Coke Classic (Blakesleen, p.3). Overall, Coca Cola continues to outsell Pepsi in almost all areas of
the world.
HYPOTHESIS When it comes to the Coke vs. Pepsi challenge, I always prefer Coke. I think it has
less of a sugary aftertaste. People say they can tell the difference between Pepsi and Coke, in my
opinion they both taste the same! I believe that based on 30 people (half male/half female), women
will be the ones who will be able to differentiate between Coke and Pepsi. The subjects for the
challenge differed on their choices but all figured they could identify their favorite cola in a blind test.
So I challenged them.

14. French Nobility in the 17th and 18th Centuries Essay
Paper Assignment #1
The Nobility of France:
17th and 18th Century Impressions
The nobility of the Kingdom of France has been evaluated by various scholars of history. There is
something to be said, however, for those who chronicled their impressions while living them in the
17th and 18th centuries. The excerpts of Charles Loyseau s A Treatise on Orders, written in 1610, and
Isabelle de Charriere s The Nobleman, written in 1763 provide two very different glimpses on the
French nobility from differing time periods. From these two accounts, it is clear that there was a
marked shift in the way some viewed the nobility and their role in the operation of the French state.
While Loyseau praises the nobility nearly wholeheartedly, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the right of the nobility to hunt, the Baron resigns himself to not but rather to allow others of
ignoble birth to do so. Additionally, rather than leaving any substantial inheritance for his family, he
squanders his wealth on frivolous lawsuits and the repainting of old family portraits (Mason and Rizzo
1999: 36). It is as if the only thing truly noble of the man is his name suggests Charriere, though in not
so many words. The Baron s son also seems far removed from a gentleman in his actions. Charriere
notes ...he drank heavily and gambled every evening with his lackeys. His person was unpleasing, and
keen eyes would have been needed to discern in him those characteristics which, according to some,
are the infallible signs of noble birth (Mason and Rizzo 1999: 37). All these traits stand in contrast
with the recently ennobled Valaincourt, who as she notes ...more closely resembled his father than
Baron d Aronville resembled his thirtieth ancestor (Mason and Rizzo 1999: 38). This line of
examination, however, raises the question of how one actually defines noble merit or what merits one
to be considered part of the nobility. Loyseau visits history in order to gain context on the situation.
He notes that at the formation of the Kingdom, two distinct groups were present who translate to the
nobility and commoner distinction. These were the Franks and Gauls according to Loyseau and the

Who the Fools Are in Gimpel the Fool
When reading through Gimpel the Fool , the reader asks who the fools really are? Throughout this
paper I will use the psychological approach. I will use this to show that Gimpel s character grows
more into a successful person rather than a fool as everyone knows him to be.
Gimpel The Fool is a story written by Isaac Bashevis Singer. This story is about a simple man named
Gimpel. He is measured by many to be a fool because he is naive and easily taking advantage of;
constantly falling for tricks layed out by the townspeople. Gimpel is also easily persuaded by the
townspeople; they end up persuading him into marrying Elka, who is known as a whore.
The author s point of view is what he is trying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he is right they belittle him and talk to him as if he were wrong, Gimpel would say Ah you re
kidding! (301). That means trouble for him; the townspeople came back and say, What do you mean!
You want to call everyone a liar? (301). Gimpel has no way of winning with the townspeople. It is just
better and easier for him to go along with what they have to say so he would not have to have an
argument. Gimpel also told himself that nothing is really impossible.
Gimpel the Fool is a unique story in which you find out about people and how they react toward each
other. In this story, Gimpel is not known as a very bright man, just as a fool. This story is written in a
first person point of view, the narrator is the main character Gimpel.
In this story the town symbolizes evil. The town s evil is brought out through the townspeople with the
way they treat Gimpel. The bakery symbolizes good; it is Gimpel s success. When reading this story I
chose to use the psychological approach. I chose this approach because of the different type of
personalities we are able to see throughout the story. Gimpel s personality type is known as an
introvert. He is not very sociable. When he is with people they always just treat him as a fool rather
than a person, this is why Gimpel chose not to be sociable. Gimpel would be more sociable with
people if they had treated him with more respect. All the townspeople including Elka and the Rabbi
were extroverts: they all

David and Goliath that shows David succeeds is He put a rock in his sling and swung the sling around
by its straps. When he let go of one strap, the rock flew out and hit Goliath on the forehead. It cracked
his skull, and he fell facedown on the ground. 50 David defeated Goliath with a sling and a rock. He
killed him without even using a sword. This explains that David killed Goliath, which is a success for
David and his town. The quote from Casey at the Bat is Casey has struck out. This quote explains that
Casey has failed because he struck out. Secondly, Casey and David is Casey got overconfident and
David believed in himself. Proof that Casey got overconfident from Casey at the Bat is He lightly
doffed his hat. This explains that he was really confident and he believed to much and he was not
being very humble. Another citing of the source from David and Goliath is I ll go out and fight him
myself. This explains that David is brave but not too valiant. Finally, David is humble and Casey is
not. Proof that David is humble is You ve come at me with a sword and a

19. Analysis Of Hillbilly Night At The Wheel Club
Hillbilly Night takes place each Monday night at The Wheel Club, a basement venue in Montreal s
Notre Dame de Grace neighborhood. It s a homey, informal setting that is perfect for this event, which
has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. Hillbilly night draws musicians and music lovers to play
and appreciate old time country music from the era before 1965. The Wheel Club is a large, one room,
hall with wood paneling and several long tables covered in checkered cloths. The décor has an old
timey feel with Christmas lights strung up behind the stage, old fashioned lanterns hanging from the
ceiling, and country music artifacts such as a large banner that reads Old Time Country Music behind

The music often features elements such as a twang or yodel. Also heard are elements of some of the
musical forms that are the roots of the country style, including folk ballads, Irish and Celtic fiddle
tunes, and European immigrant musical traditions. Common themes in country music are present in
the lyrics of many of the songs performed, such as cowboy songs, prison and outlaw laments (Doin
my Time by Earle Scruggs, Foggy Mountain Boys, Lester Flatt), heartbreak (Sea of Heartbreak, By
Don Gibson), wanderlust (Waiting for a Train, by Jimmie Rodgers), loneliness, (I wonder where you
are tonight by Hank Snow), drinking, and the hard life of the working class people (Down in the Old
Coal Mine, by Larry Sparks).
Musical genres included Rockabilly in songs played such as Don Gibson s Sweet, Sweet, Girl, or Doin
My Time (Scruggs, Foggy Mountain Boys, Lester Flatt ). Bluegrass classics such as The Kentucky
Waltz (Bill Monroe), or the Bluegrass standard Roll in my Sweet Baby s Arms.
The instrumentation included fiddle, banjo, guitar, pedal steel guitar, upright bass, mandolin, and
sometimes harmonica. There were averagely 6 7 performers in the band throughout the evening,

20. Jk Simmons And Character Clash
Tyler Christiansen/ Section A/ Whiplash/ Peter Stone
A young actor can learn a lot from the performances of JK Simmons and Miles Teller in Whiplash.
Throughout the film each actor clearly had an understanding of not only who their character was, but
what their character s overall objective was. Building character is essential to a great performance and
by watching this film I could easily tell each actor did the proper preparation it took to get a better
understanding who Fletcher and Andrew were. These actors are a great example of what we, as actors,
should be striving for when we begin to analyze a new character.
The chemistry between Simmons and Teller on screen was incredible, and I believe a huge portion of
that was due to their comprehension of their characters. A factor that played a great part between these
two characters was the idea of high status and low status. Fletcher is clearly the high status character,
holding the power to make or break Andrew s life long dream. Simmons plays this part of Fletcher
quite clearly through his physical and vocal choices. His movement is very meticulous, almost as if he
s constantly thinking about every move he makes. His posture is tall and overbearing, often ... Show

to anxiety or nervousness and I believe because my usual soft spoken voice it s much easier for me to

biggest competition of our season, and in order to go, you have to place top 3 at Regions and State,
and get the bid to go. We were really excited to be there this year. The team went to Myrtle Beach last
year for 2016 Nationals, but this was before I was on the team. At the 2016 Nationals, they hit 0, and
had no deductions and still did not even place. So when we went into Nationals, we did not even think
that we were gonna place top 5. The goal was to place top 3, and the dream was to get first.
We had a lot of fun because a lot of us got there like about 3 days before the actual competition. So,
we would go to the pool and or just walk around because there was a food court and bowling alley, so
we would have fun. We would just run around and eat all day and have team bonding time. We had

The Great Debaters is an extraordinary and inspiring movie; it incorporated a rich story. The move is
based on a true story; the story dates back to the 1930 s. It was about four African American students
from Wiley College who are on the school s debate team, throughout the movie we see the
discrimination they faced in the South. There are many reoccurring themes that can be depicted from
this movie. This includes racial discrimination and love. Racial discrimination can be seen when Mr.
James Farmer accidentally ran over a white man s pig, as a result he was charged a very high amount
for the pig. We assume that if it were a white man he wouldn t have been charged nearly as much.
However, when the team challenged and defeated a few white ... Show more content on

The theme of love is also shown. James Farmer Jr., 14 year old boy, seizes to hide that he like
Samantha, aspiring female lawyer, but sadly for Jr. Samantha likes Henry, the other debater. After
constant rejection, including Samantha sleeping with Henry, Jr. gets frustrated and get into an argument
with Samantha following Professor Melvin Tolson s arrest. However, the role shifts, and Jr. becomes
angry at Henry because he cheated on her. Thus, we can see the shift of both the themes racial
discrimination and love. The various types of music in the movie The Great Debaters really did
evoke emotions in a way that was effective to the audience. Whether it was a positive or negative vibe.
For example, during the party scene the music was very up beat and uprising. It gave a sense of
expression where the people were able to dance freely around people who liked the similar music.
Invoking a sense of unity and happiness. Furthermore, loud suspenseful music, seen in the night
meeting scene evoked contrasting emotions to the audience. James Farmer Jr. secretly went to the

24. Physics of Color Vision and Color Blindness Essay
What is Color?
To understand what color is, we first need to understand what light is. Light, as perceived by humans,
is simply electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths between roughly 380 nm and 740 nm.
Wavelengths below 380 nm and above 740 nm cannot be seem by the human eye. Electromagnetic
radiation with a wavelength just below 380 nm is known as ultraviolet radiation. Electromagnetic
radiation with a wavelength just above 740 nm is known as infrared radiation. The sun, black lights
and fluorescent lamps are all sources of ultraviolet light. Heat is a source of infrared radiation, which
is how thermal vision works.

Based on our current knowledge, there is no observable physical explanation (in our brains or
elsewhere) as to how a 650 nm ray of light becomes red . As it stands, there s no proof that one day
you couldn t wake up with your visible color spectrum flipped. For more information on the debate
between physics and psychological interpretation of sensory experiences, search for the term qualia .
Now back to the physics (this is a physics webpage after all)...
The point is, color is a purely subjective experience that would not exist without eyes to see it. We can
only understand color based on how we see color, even though other animals can see it differently.
The human eye contains both rod cells and cone cells to interpret light. Rod cells interpret lower levels
of light than cone cells; they also do not see color. In light environments, cone cells become activated
and replace the rod cells as the primary source of visual information. Cone cells are the photoreceptors
used to discriminate color.
The human eye contains three different types of cone cells which interpret their own ranges of
electromagnetic wavelengths. These three cone cells are often oversimplified as the blue, green and
red cone cells when, in fact, they each cover a range of colors. Each cone cell s sensitivity to light is
distributed as a bell curve over a range of wavelengths. The three cone cells

This semester during the research paper, there were many challenges to overcome. Among choosing
the topic for the paper, there were entirely too many research articles to go through and find relevant

the information flow. The points brought out in the paper do not mesh as nicely as I would have hoped
for, however the information was able to be put in a logical order to accommodate the start to finish
timeline that I was looking for. The main struggle of this paper became the research. Utilizing the
Arizona Western College library database and the JSTOR database, there were thousands of articles,
scholarly journals, peer reviews, etc. that needed to be sifted through. Among those, I needed to
highlight the three main points of the research paper to narrow those results down. I looked first to
find relevant information to the concept and origin of the space shuttle program. That yielded few
results yet gave me the background information that I was looking for. After that had been
accomplished, I was able to find information straight from NASA to identify each shuttle used and
significant points during the flights of each one. Lastly, I had to hone in on the transition from the
space shuttle program to the commercial spacecraft that are being put together to launch the next

27. Reasons Why Leaders Fail On The Workplace
There are numerous reasons why leaders succumb to pitfalls in the workplace. The best laid plans are
often derailed throughout the day by continuous interruptions; such as, telephone calls, emails,
business meetings, various deadlines, on going projects, and political reasons. The leader must assess
priorities that are constantly changing in order to withstand common pitfalls of leadership. These six
pitfalls are the most common reasons why leaders fail: Failing to respond to employee emails, failing
to provide feedback positive or negative, acknowledging people only when they make mistakes,
failing to celebrate victories, showing favoritism, and burning out employees.
Failing to Respond to Employee Emails
A no response or acknowledgment email from a Director or Manager can send a person into wasteful
worry: Does he or she dislike what I submitted...did I do something wrong? I was assigned a high
profile project, consisting of hiring a consultant to do a climate and culture study of women in the
workplace. The director was aware that this project was important and time sensitive. Before I could
proceed with implementing the contract, I needed the director to sign off on an internal form. I
emailed him requesting his signature. I had no response to my email. I was aware that he was
inundated with other priorities, so I gave it a day before I emailed him again. His lack of response

camouflage and other designs for my rifles as well. I went onto the internet and watched videos on
how to properly paint a firearm. I learned that to create the best effects was to paint the gun using a

PlastiDip is a very thin spray able rubber that can act like a paint but can be removed at any time
without struggle. I chose to do it this way in case the spray paint didn t work as planned, then I could
remove the paint without a problem and no permanent consequences. The PlastiDip has a short drying
time, making it easy to spray on multiple layers in a short period of time. After the second layer of the
PlastiDip was fully sprayed on I let it cure over night to ensure that the PlastiDip had fully gripped to
the rifles stock. I kept the gun at room temperature and let it sit for about twelve hours. I didn t wait
this long for fear of the paint not bonding correctly, this amount of time was due to work and school.
When I arrived home from these priorities I began to make the stencils to create the designs on the

stencils was the hardest part of the project. I thought that the easiest way to make the stencils would be
to draw out the design on paper, and then transfer the design onto the masking tape. From there I was
planning on cutting out the designs. This would let me create the proper pattern and the tape would
seal against the gun to prevent leaking. The stencils did not work like I was hoping they would. To cut

Many researchers have attempted to discover user background knowledge through global or local
analysis to represent user profiles.
i) Motivation
The basic objective regarding this project is to achieve high performance in web information retrieval
using a personalized ontology model. Most of the times when user searches for some information with
some ideas in mind , It is always the case that he didn t get the information exactly as he wants in first
page . He has to go through different pages until he get the information exactly as per his concept. The
basic idea is to create ontological user profiles from both a world knowledge base and user local
instance repositories in order to have a fast information retrieval as per the concept model of the user.
ii) Existing systems
Commonly used knowledge bases include generic ontologies, thesauruses, and online knowledge
bases. The global analysis produce effective performance for user background knowledge extraction
but it is limited by the quality of the used knowledge base. Local analysis investigates user local
information or observes user behavior in user profiles. Analyzed query logs to discover user
background knowledge is used. Users were provided with a set of documents and asked for relevance
feedback. User background knowledge was then discovered from this feedback for user profiles. The
discovered results may contain noisy and uncertain information.

31. The Hierarchy Of Structure And Agency
There is a constant debate about the primacy of structure or agency in forming human behavior in the
social science. Carlsnaes (as cited in Hay, 1995) claimed that the problem of structure and agency is ...
the central problem of social and political theory . Radically, the agency structure problem is an
ontological problem which is related to the nature of structures, agents and their correlations (Wight,
2003). There are four influential positions in the structure agency debate: structuralism,
intentionalism, structuration theory and critical realism (Hay, 1995). In his book, structuralism
emphasizes the dominance of structure rather than agency on behavior. It is a structure centered
approach, arguing that structures constrain and even determine agency in the relationship between
structure and agency. However, intentionalism highlights the agents in explaining behavior. It is an
agency centered approach that regards structures as the product of intentional acts. Structuration
theory presents a developed attempt to transcend the dualism in which structure and agency are
connected externally. It argues for the duality of structure . Critical realism is based on a dialectical
cognizance of structure and agency, striving to overcome the dualism of the two. It links to strategic
relational approach . This essay will argue that structure and agency is a dialectical unity of
relationship, and they entail and affect each other. In exceptional circumstances, they can be

Chapter 12 Discussion Questions Q.1 Consider a project to build a bridge over a river gorge. What are
some of the resource constraints that would make this project challenging? Ans: Resource constraints
would include money/budget constraints, specialized equipment, large material requirements, and
personnel constraints revolving around contractors, and highly skilled construction crew. A bridge is
subject to many potential risks related to environment, technology and physical construction. All put
the project in jeopardy of overextending its budget which can make monetary budgets and necessary
reserves a central resource constraint. Due to the specialized equipment and personnel required,
scheduling these resources to arrive at appropriate times is important. Equipment rentals and labor can
be expensive, so it is important to schedule these resources so that they arrive just in time for use,
however this can be difficult to accurately predict. It is also unlikely that the same personnel will be
required throughout the project. One construction team may be needed for pouring foundations, while
another is hired to pave the driving surface. Again, identifying, sequencing and scheduling these

One of the most important technological achievements of World War Two was the invention of radar.
For the first time in history, commanders could see hundreds of miles past their own vision and
develop strategies to counter enemy movements. Radar had enormous effects on the outcome of World
War Two and was a determining factor in how naval and aerial strategy developed into what it is
today. Applicable in both offensive and defensive strategies, radar can be used as an early warning
device or as a helping mechanism for aerial bombers and naval ships to find their targets more
effectively. Defensively, radar played a large role against aerial and naval attacks throughout the war.

Suddenly, poor weather conditions and the darkness of night were no longer problems for naval
leaders and fighters. Radar allowed ship commanders and airman to see without light, and be more
precise with their targets. The ability to attack at night was immensely different from previous wars.
Previously, the darkness made fighting impossible due to lack of technology for targeting. With radar,
this was now possible. To attack from the air or by ship at night was a formidable threat to ships and
land bases. Radar was used to locate enemy ships and launch planes accurately from large distances.
Attacking without ever seeing the enemy was also now a normal element to naval warfare. From using
radar to launch planes at an enemy hundreds of miles away to using it to find the coordinates of enemy
ships and using naval gunfire, seeing the actual enemy was no longer necessary. One instance where
radar played a formidable role in an attack was at the battle of Midway. Midway was the turning point
in the war where Japan lost two of their aircraft carriers due to radar locating their exact locations
(Lambert). With this information American forces were able to send dive bombers to the exact
coordinates to destroy the vital Japanese carriers. Also using radar for reconnaissance was a
determining factor for the offensive campaigns. Being able to detect where the enemy is and where
they are going to be made the planning of operations more adjustable to change. The use of radar
required a broad communication chain in order to inform leaders of the findings. With the increased
communications, radar findings could be announced to the whole fleet and its commanders. Increasing
the pre battle intelligence by increasing communication, commanders could use the radar finding and

It is only a matter of time before industrial suppliers loose investor support grow weary of budget cuts.
Resolving this gap with defense industrial policy will give a safeguard to the industrial base by
providing industrial suppliers the necessary reassurance for their stakeholders. At the very least,
suppliers require guidance to re orient resources as priorities shift and programs are cut. It is yet to be
seen if this present pattern of business will insure a suitable industrial base in the future without
addressing this issue. A case in point, SecDef Hagels recently declared six priorities for the Defense
department include maintaining a lead in emerging technologies, such as: space, cyber, special
operations forces, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance without pointing to any industrial
guidance to achieve these requirements. This leaves industrial suppliers gambling over which
programs to invest resources without the risk of being cut. For instance, Space programs such as: GPS
Positioning ($1.3 Billion) and Planned purchase of extremely high frequency satellite programs
($652.5 million) do not have any order of preference from the department. From the defense supplier s
point of view, without any preferences, allocating resources and investing in technology is
problematic. As publicly traded companies, defense suppliers are bound to stakeholders, and must
proceed with caution for projects at risk of being cut. The lack of guidance only adds to their

Coming Back From an MCL Injury
When it comes to your ability to move around, participate in sports, and simply walk, your knee joints
are vital. The knee itself is made up of multiple ligaments, bones, and tendons and of all of these
different parts that need to work together to make the joint work. One of these parts is called the
medial collateral ligament or MCL. It is responsible for adding a little more stability to your knee and
leg as well as preventing your knee from bending in dangerous directions. If you are noticing some
pain in the inside portion of your knee or possibly you feel unsteady on one or both of your feet you
may have injured your MCL.
Symptoms

These may be signs of damage to your MCL and if you find yourself experiencing some of these, you
should probably have your knee and leg checked out by a medical professional.
Causes
Damaging the tissue of MCL can be common in sports, especially contact sports such as football.
Injuring this part of your knee may also commonly be the result of a direct hit or impact on the outside
of the lower leg and/or knee, which can cause the tissue on the inner side of the leg and knee joint to
stretch or even tear in more traumatic situations. This ligament can also end up being damaged if the
joint becomes hyperextended causing the tissue to stretch and possibly tear.
Treatment
Recovery from an MCL injury is not always fun but there are some things that you can do to help
speed it along and maybe make it a little less painful. Rest is usually always helpful when healing
from just about any injury and MCL injuries are no different, so rest as much as possible and try to
stay off your feet when you are able to. Using a compression brace on your knee might help to
improve blood flow and reduce swelling and it may also aid in reducing the pain you are probably
living with through the healing process.
Another thing that you might want to consider to aid in treating your pain may be ice. Icing the area of
your leg and knee that hurts could lower the level of pain you experience and it could help lower the
amount of swelling

why is the Reformation still a global movement?
In Africa today there are more than twice as many Lutherans than in the United States. Even in
America God continues to bring new people to faith and transform the lives of His followers
I m convinced the movement is fueled by a relationship. A quote of Luther started me down this path:
Though I lived as a religious leader without reproach, I felt, with the most disturbed conscience

People are born in sin but have no legitimate way to atone for those sins. Unfair treatment angers a lot
of people, especially people like Luther who desperately try to play by the rules.
I think the Roman Catholic teaching struck a much deeper chord in Luther. We all long for the
affirmation of our fathers. We also have a deep need for acceptance by our Heavenly Father.
According to the Church, Luther was never certain he would receive the favor of the Heavenly Father,
let alone enter heaven. This was devastating.
Much is made of the three solas of the Reformation: Scripture alone, Grace alone and Faith alone. I
am not convinced even when taken together these three were enough to fuel a movement that has
lasted almost half a millennium.
Instead, I think the three solas were indispensable as conditions for the catalyst of the movement.
Luther himself can show us the Reformation s spark. He spent a lifetime longing for acceptance by
God the Father, yet was convinced this is impossible. Salvation by God s grace through faith in Jesus
was a revelation to Luther. I mean this

speech is so filled with anger or scorn that the particles which express logical and grammatical
connections are lacking or out of place. (from Odysseus Scar by Erich Auerbach)
In his immaculately detailed study comparing the narrative styles of Homer to those of the Bible,
Erich Auerbach hits upon one of the most notable intrigues of reading Homer, namely his unrelenting

of one another, predictable almost to the point of absurdity, perhaps reflects a poet s judgment of war.
Homer goes to such elaborate lengths to depict the immensity of the enterprise and the sweat and

At the epicenter of the boom, the dimensions and mood of the art world were shifting for good.
Concerns were mounting that the art world was abandoning its cherished autonomy from the norms of
mainstream society. In a faster, commercial art world dominated by newcomers and speculators, how
could such agreements be reached about aesthetic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
