Symbolic Imagery
Symbolic imagery is intended to use descriptive language to express an abstract idea in concrete form.
Light and dark imagery creates a visual interpretation that contrasts a positive and a negative concept.
The novel Anthem by Ayn Rand and the short film More by Mark Osborne both contain symbolism in
the form of black and white imagery. In Anthem, it is shown through Equality s invention of electricity
and the council of scholars rejection of it and in More , it is portrayed by the bland everyday world
compared to the exciting and colorful world through bliss goggles. Ayn Rand uses black and white
imagery to depict Equality and his discovery of electricity in a favorable light, whereas the council of
scholars is painted in a despicable

Master Locksmiths Research Paper
Why You Need a Master Locksmith
At some point in life, most people will lose their keys or their locks will become jammed, damaged, or
broken. A master locksmith can provide quality service at an affordable rate, and provide safety and
reassurance.
24 Hour Emergency Service
One of the greatest benefits of hiring a master locksmith is they offer 24 hour emergency service. No
one can predict when they are going to be accidentally locked out of their car or home, and it may
happen at a notably inconvenient hour. As such, the ability to have 24 hour emergency care is of
utmost importance. Professional locksmiths are quick and will get you safely on your way, whether it
be back inside your car or your home.
Master Locksmiths Provide Higher Quality Locks ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A master locksmith tends to provide a much higher quality lock than those that can be purchased in a
local store or hardware department store. Locks that are self installed or purchased from local stores
may not have the quality or the security needed to ensure their safety. Locks that are not of high
quality can be easily compromised and bypassed. In order to have the highest levels of safety and
security, a master locksmith is the solution.
Locksmiths Can Evaluate the Condition of a Lock
Master locksmiths can do more than just get you back into your car or home and install new locks.
They can also professionally evaluate the condition of your current lock and scan for damage or any
other problems. Master locksmiths are trained to look for potential problems with locks that can lead
to security compromises or dysfunction. Having a master locksmith assess the condition of your locks
is a great habit to develop.

Mycenaean And Minoan Civilization Research Paper
The Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations were the first two cultures to evolve in Greece. The Minoans
occupied the island of Crete. The Mycenaean s began in Southern Greece before acquiring more land.
They were both located around the Aegean Sea which they learned to sail to trade with other cultures
and for fishing. They were similar in their religious beliefs and the artwork they made. Pottery was
common and both used metals for decoration and weapons. They believed in a goddess. Gold and
bronze were discovered and used by both cultures. The Minoans were more artistic with more colorful
pottery being found. The Mycenaean developed the used of weaponry and built and trained a standing

Sparta had a very strict social structure that support military rule and was against tyranny of one
leader. Sparta was governed by a ruling class or family. Spartan citizens were rigorously trained for
battle and educated to be leaders at a young age. Spartan women had the most rights and freedoms of
any other women during ancient times. Sparta was located in the Peloponnese and was founded by
Dorian invaders. The economy of Sparta was based upon agriculture and depended heavily upon
slaves. The slaves were expected to support the Spartans while the citizens were expected to fight to
defend Sparta. Sparta did not support any cultural arts as they focused primarily on sports and the
military. The city state of Athens developed the first democracy as a form of government. They were
descended from the Ionians. Athens had a constitution that allowed citizenship to all free men of the
city. They did not separate people due to their wealth or social status. The governing body was picked
from a lottery system to prevent favoritism in the government. Athens also coined its own money
which allowed for economic improvements. Athens was known for its advancements in the cultural
arts which included architecture. The arts was encouraged within the city state. Citizens were

Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway Essay
Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway Imagination is the one weapon in the war against reality. Jules de
Gaultier Set just after one of England s worst tragedies, Virginia Woolf s 1925 novel Mrs. Dalloway is
a vivid picture of the effects of World War I on London s high society, often in glaring contrast to the
effects of shell shock suffered by war veteran Septimus Smith. For members of high society, the War s
impact is largely indirect, mainly affecting their conversations at posh social functions. Although the
war has had little impact on these people, some strive to develop a deeper understanding of the War s
main consequence: death. For Septimus, who has endured the direct impact of the War as a soldier,
however, the memories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although a small point, it is necessary to add that even Septimus s wife, Rezia, though not in the same
social circle as Clarissa, sees the impacts of the War as ordinary. When reflecting on Septimus s
tendency to talk to his dead friend, Evans, Rezia thinks, [Evans] had seemed a nice quiet man; a great
friend of Septimus s, and he had been killed in the War. But such things happen to everyone. Everyone
has friends who were killed in the War (64). This statement is to Rezia a mere fact, which highlights
that she, like those in Clarissa s circle, is also blissfully ignorant of the horrors involved in the War,
drawing attention to the insurmountable gulf that exists between Septimus s experience of the War,
and everyone else s imagined perception of it. Indeed, the relaying of information as mentioned above
often serves as entertainment for the upper class throughout the novel, even if the entertainment is
derived from such a serious topic as war related casualties. Even though millions were killed, and
many injured, Clarissa s class typically cannot comprehend the brutality experienced by soldiers in
combat, much less the unrelenting stresses and images that follow them long after they have left the
battlefield. However, high society cannot ignore such cases of human suffering, so they become a sort
of fashionable topic. At Clarissa s party, for example, Lady Bradshaw treats the subject almost
casually,

Perfect Steak Research Paper
Once you ve found your grill of choice from a grill store Dallas TX, how do you get the perfect steak?
That s a question that has eluded even the most dedicated grill warriors for a long time but you can
offer up a perfect steak to your guests just like any chef would. In part one of our steak series, we ll
show you some contrasting opinions on one facet of perfect steak preparation: do you bring the steak
to room temperature or not? Grill Store Dallas TX: Chefs Don t Agree on the Room Temperature
Axiom Many people grab the steak out of the fridge, shake some salt on it, and toss it on the grill.
Others are careful to let their steaks come to room temperature this can take up to 30 minutes before
they will place them on the grill. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He suggests taking the steaks out of the refrigerator half an hour before grilling. In that case, you had
better plan ahead. On the other hand, ABC News quoted chef Michael Lomonaco as saying that room
temperature steaks cook far too quickly. When you cook with a room temperature steak, it cooks much
faster, said Lomonaco, according to ABC. Cooking with cold steaks allows you to control the
temperature more, resulting in a perfectly cooked steak. Patio Gas Grills Dallas: Here Is the Solution
The end goal, a perfectly grilled steak, is the same, regardless of your feelings on the room
temperature theory. The next time this conversation arises at a grill store Dallas TX, just mention that
the temperature of the grill, not the temperature of the steak, is more important when you re getting
started. Chef Walzog recommends letting your grill remain closed for up to five full minutes after the
coals have reached a proper heat level (when the coals are almost white). Placing your steaks on the
grill after it has had a chance to reach this level of heat results in beautifully charred exterior without
over cooking the inside. Up next on the grill store Dallas TX blog: we will look at the myths (or
truths) seasoning your steak in

Drug Abuse Prevention And Control Act
It has been over thirty one years since the United States first waged the War on Drugs. This war
has cost hundreds of billions of dollars to fight and has given our country many mixed results. We
have seen fluctuations in the numbers over the years, which are, can be linked to different social fads
and political agendas. Despite the enormous amount of money we have spent to rid our country of
illegal drugs, we still have four million Americans addicted today. Stricter drug laws have caused there
to be an overflow of prisoners convicted of drug charges and have transformed these people into tax
burdens instead of taxpayers. Through the investigation of the drug war with President Nixon, through
the peak of drug use in the late 70 s to the rise of crack in the 80 s and into the legalization of
Marijuana, This paper will explain why drugs continue to flow into America at an alarming rate and
try and uncover the effectiveness of the war.
Beginning in 1970, Congress passes the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control act. In
addition to consolidating previous anti drug laws, the act provides federal funding for drug abuse
prevention and treatment efforts. The Act establishes tough penalties for drug trafficking, but actually
lessens federal penalties for the possession of marijuana. In 1971, President Nixon declares War on
Drugs. To coordinate anti drug efforts, he creates the special Action Office for Drug Abuse
Preventior. In 1972, the Drug Enforcement Agency

The Success Of The Club
In 2005, a shocking news hit the city of Manchester, home of the EPL s most successful club with a
history of more than a hundred years: Manchester United. Their beloved club was to be acquired by an
American business tycoon, Malcolm Glazer. What concerned the fans even more was the fact that
most of the capital used by Glazer to purchase the team was debt and that he would load £525million
of debt on to the club itself. This was problematic because it meant that money otherwise could be
used to acquire top talents, improve training facilities, or towards the club s CSR activities would be
used to pay back Glazer s debt. The leveraged buyout of the club was directly against the interests of
the fans who are the most important stakeholder. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ever since Glazer loaded the club with £525million debt, over £680million has gone towards servicing
the debt, including interest fees, bank charges, and debt repayment as of May 2014. On the other hand,
the club s spending on acquisition of players during the same period was £382.9million while its rivals
Manchester City has spent £693.7million, Chelsea £600.2million, Tottenham £448.2million, and
Liverpool have splashed out a total of £443.75million. In other words, Man Utd spent more on
servicing Glazer s debt than it did on strengthening its squad. Although Man Utd won five Premier
League titles, three league cups, and a Champions League under Glazer s ownership, underinvestment
eventually led to aging squad and failure to find suitable replacements. As a result, in 2013/2014
season, Man Utd finished the season in 7th place, failing to qualify for the Champions League for the
first time since 1990/1991 season while its neighbor, Manchester City, won the title. While Man Utd
was suffering from severely deteriorated financial situation, Man City, under the ownership of an
Arabian prince, Sheikh Mansour, invested heavily not only to acquiring top players, but also to
building a new stadium, training facilities, and even to the community by subway construction and
new homes. Despite the fact that Man Utd spent £152.3million in the transfer market this season, the
investment does not seem to be paying off yet as the team ranks fourth in the league as of

How Do Robots Change The World
Technology has advanced and changed over time and now today, of course, it would make sense to
talk about how robots may be able to change the world. We already have phones and tablets that have
built in intelligent personal assistants (Apples Siri, Google Alexa, etc.) that can just about do anything
you ask it to do on your device. Cars are driving themselves, imagine your favorite pizza being
delivered robotically, the robotic era is on the way. And I m sure we as humans will figure out a way
to adapt. American inventor George Devol created the first industrial robot in 1961, the 4000 pound
robotic arm transported die castings from an assembly line and welded these parts on auto bodies, a
dangerous task for workers, who could be poisoned by exhaust gas or lose a limb if they were not
careful. (Norman) 56 years later imagine how much more a robot can do with the technology we have
now today. Kevin Kelly argues that [w]e need to let robots take over because they will help us
discover new jobs for ourselves, new tasks that expand who we are. I trust him to some extent. there s
an occasion that robots will facilitate produce additional jobs, however before robots are able to
produce additional jobs they might be so taking the roles that we tend as humans currently have
nowadays like body jobs, and retail. The question is however long can it take United States as humans
to adapt, can the govt notice the way to help the living things of individuals whose jobs were

Flight Patterns By Sherman Alexie
The story Flight Patterns is a short story in which Sherman Alexie, the author, presents Native
American literature which is new around this time in age. William Cline, the main character represents
your stereotype native American. This story takes place post 9/11; therefore, the level of security has
been increased greatly along with the amount of hostility towards darker skinned people. William
describes how he feels out of place because he has all the traits of a native American but he feels likes
he needs to try in order to keep up with his culture. He points out that his wife, Marie, is the one that
lives up to the title and has no cares in the world. Her culture comes natural to her and she is not self
conscious about her appearance unlike her husband. Their daughter Grace, has a little bit of both
parents. She has the carelessness of her mother and yet she strives to be like her dad as well. William s
family lives in Seattle and they are one of the first native American families to settle there; therefore,
racism is a very touchy subject. Racism is something that is surrounding William yet he frowns upon
it. This is very contradictory because, although he is so quick to clarify that he is Native American
brown, not dangerous brown. William is self conscious about himself and does not want his color to
define him, yet at the same time he claims he takes pride is his color. In flight patterns the story is told
in the narrator s point of view. This is important

Hertz
1) The dual track process used by Ford to initiate consideration of strategic alternatives affects the
bidding process for Hertz by giving Hertz another plan of attack if other viable sale opportunities fall
through. By obtaining an IPO price as a base for the value of the company, Ford s strategy would give
Hertz other options to retrieve necessary capital, thus reducing the amount of risk. This strategy would
then give Hertz a base bid that would be either equal to or above the amount of what could be
theoretically obtained from an IPO. 2) One way that Hertz conforms to be an ideal LBO candidate is
the proven financial performance and pretax profit the company has generated since 1967. In addition,

While this may be a fair assumption depending on what the Bidding Group is comfortable with, there
was a wide range used to make the beta estimates. This beta estimate will have the biggest impact on
return because of the effect it has on pricing Hertz assets. 5) Based on our assumption, we believe that
the Mean multiple would be the best measurement for calculating Hertz Terminal Value. By adding up
all of Hertz total value segments: RAC, SPV and HERC, we concluded that the total enterprise value
for Hertz is: 20,764,860,000 billion. That being said, if deducting the total current debt of both Hertz s
segment: RAC and HERC (fleet $ Operating company) $14,768,070,000 billion = we get a Equity
value (terminal Value) of $5,996,790,000 billion. Putting down, $2,300 million at year 0, with zero
NPV (cash flows) until payout at year 5, the calculated IRR for investors is: 21.13%. This IRR is more
than the targeted IRR of 20% that Carlyse expected. Thus, would make this LBO an ideal target. 6)
Given that the IRR is greater than 20%, Carlyse could afford to pay up to $110 million additional to

II. Marijuana should be legalized for many reasons.
A) Prohibition of marijuana must be weighed against the loss of personal freedom. 1) Countries have a
responsibility to respect individual free will and the right of self determination
B) Legal prohibition does not stop consumers from consuming drugs, it does not stop trafficants from
producing and selling it.
1) The price of the final product increases to abnormally high values because of the black market
status.
2) With the effects of drug addiction causes users to commit crimes in order to fund their addiction.
C) Critics of the War on Drugs support the partial or complete decriminalization of illegal drugs,
combined with a system of regulation, such as the case with alcohol and prescription drugs.
1) By providing legal supplies of currently illegal drugs the price will fall, leading to a collapse in the
illegal drug industry, and a reduction in crimes committed by both drug suppliers and users.

Beginners Film Techniques
The movie Beginners was a comical yet gloomy movie drama. Comical and depressed doesn t seem
like words to describe a film but it was balanced. It was in a way painful to watch since from the
beginning the audience would know what was going to happen. There are various elements that made
this film an interesting disheartening comedy drama. Throughout the film the shot (lighting, costume,
and set design) set the whole experience. To some the shot and camerawork and the number one
priority but lack the action and dialogue and the proper actors, but beginners seemed to have a
balance, much like other films. The lighting throughout the film seemed to fit the mood for example,
during some scenes the shot looked smoky or cloudy, but never dark and in scenes with Hal the sun
seemed to shine every time he was in the shot, and when he was happy. Another important element in
the shot is costume, and it plays a major role because the way someone is dressed helps people
understand them better. The costumes fit each character, and although the costumes were simple they
played a role in understating the character. Lastly the set design in the film was remarkable. The

Although it had flashbacks that may have confused some, but the movie flowed smoothly, and didn t
reveal some things prematurely. For example we knew the father was going to die but didn t know
exactly when or exactly how. In order for a film to succeed and receive great reviews like beginners it
must keep the audience hooked from the moment it begins and Mike Mills and the actors achieved
that. Although the audience knew there was going to be a sad ending the action and dialogue seemed
to keep the audience interested. During the film the dialogue revealed a lot about the characters and
what was going on in their life and mind. It showed how Oliver was in the beginning and how he
ultimately became the man he was during the

Theme Of Gender Identity In Suffragette
The themes of gender identity defined in all three movies remain quite typical. The women in the
films identify with mostly feminine traits and vice versa. Maud in Suffragette believes herself to be a
mere helpless housewife who can only excel at laundry and house chores until she s told by differently
by other suffragettes and Ms. Pankhurst.
Opportunity and resources may just be a once in a lifetime or never to happen events in a marginalized
person s lifetime. To define in one word, they just might mean everything to them. In all three of these
films we see how unfair and underprivileged these people s lives are.

managing all domestic work, she s very submissive at first, takes all orders from her husband and

they have all the hegemony. Men can own property, vote, and hold custody of children. Women are
meant to be nothing more than their wives;
You re a mother, Maud. You are a wife. You re my wife, and that s all you re meant to be. (Sonny

that the red light district is a matriarchal society. Even though the women were breadwinners of the

Junk Food Should Be Banned In Schools
Long live junk food, a child s best friend who has stuck with them throughout all these years. Schools
are considering to erase these long term companions from a student s educational lives once and for
all. The question we are asking here is whether or not this is going to be a choice that is worth it. Junk
food should not be banned in schools because banning junk food in school cannot guarantee
restrictions on junk food outside of school, cutting out junk food greatly decreases school revenue, and
the availability of healthier foods does not ensure proper intake of calories.
When junk food is banned in school, it does not guarantee a ban everywhere else outside of school. As
Radford states, Whether or not junk food is available to them at school may not have much bearing on
how much junk food they eat (7). This could be due to multiple reasons. Outside of school, junk food
is an inexpensive source that is widely available and any student would have access to them because
of how conveniently located they are. Not only are they conveniently placed, they are also served in
large portions (Reyman 1). If junk food was banned, these outside locations could then serve as
escapes for students from the policies that have been placed. There will also be students who would be
exempt from the policies once they are set in stone students who like to pack their own lunch (Jaonick
and Cass 17). These students still have the chance to pack the unhealthiest foods from home, giving

During the time I observed Mass there was a dominate race in attendance mostly Caucasian (around

was not a dominate sex or age of the attendees. There seemed to be an equal amount of males and
females, and a vast degree of age newborns to very elderly among the participants. The clothing of the
participants was very formal and respectful. Most women either wore long dresses or skirt with
leggings or tights underneath, some women wore pants; however, there was only a few women in
pants; all women wore shirts that did not show very much (if any) cleavage some women (around ten)
wore black, white, gray, or brown veils over their heads at first I believed that the veils were a sign
that the women wearing them were preparing to become nuns; however, several small children were
wearing the veils over their heads, and according to Lauren, the veils are symbolic they show respect
to the Saints and God by allowing women to observe submissiveness and obedience. There seems to
be no correlation between the veils color and a symbolic meaning behind the veil color. Men wore
suits or khakis and a button up shirt. Women and men were all aware that they were in a church and
must be modest not shorts or t shirts or cocktail dresses were seen of the participants if someone was

Theoretical Background for Nuclear Proliferation in the...
THEORETICAL BACKGROUND FOR NUCLEAR PROLIFERATION Cold War Era If one were to
believe that an official written history of North Korea during the past few years, the political
developments in North Korea after 1945 and until the date entire communist movement seem to have
been relatively simple. In 1948, in the result of nuclear bombs crashed in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a
requirement for non proliferation of nuclear weapons appeared based on their frightening critical
power. The U.S, Canada, and the U.K. recommended establishing a commission of nuclear energy
under the United Nations in order to fully eliminate the possibility of nuclear energy use for
destructive purposes. In the UN General Assembly, all members reached a agreement on prohibition
of the possession of nuclear weapons separately. The United States also gave option that all nuclear
related equipment and actions potentially unsafe to world harmony and security should be under the
United Nations possession and rule. This proposal, called the Baruch Plan, failed to be adopted due to
disagreement by the Soviet Union because of its fear of a United States nuclear weapons domination.
Initially, it was reflection that, proliferation of nuclear weapons was unlikely to broaden because
nuclear weapons and technology would be difficult to gain. Though, all permanent members in the
current UN Security Council officially got nuclear position. There existed common understanding that

Themes and Symbolism in Faulkner s Barn Burning
In Barn Burning by William Faulkner we have the theme of loyalty, conflict, power, control, authority,
justice and reestablishment. The story is narrated in the third individual by an anonymous narrator and
from the earliest starting point of the story it turns out to be clear to the reader that Faulkner is
investigating the theme of loyalty and conflict. The narrator tells the reader that Sarty, as he is sitting
in the store, considers Harris our enemy... ourn! mine and hisn both. (Faulkner). This announcement is
critical as despite the fact that Sarty realizes that his father is liable of burning Harris barn regardless

Cheese has all the earmarks of being utilized as a part of the story to recommend family solidarity
against the legal framework. Toward the start of the story Sarty supposes he can notice cheese which
makes him feel dread, hopelessness and sorrow. Sarty knows that his father is anticipating that he
should lie about what happened to Harris barn, which thusly causes a conflict inside Sarty, as he needs
to make the best choice (family solidarity versus justice). Likewise later in the story, Abner, Sarty and
his sibling share some cheese outside another store. This may propose again that Abner needs his
family to demonstrate some solidarity against the legal framework. Fire likewise goes about as
symbolism in the story and seems to speak to power. By portraying the fire as quick it is conceivable
that Faulkner is proposing that with regards to fire, Abner realizes what is required which again may
recommend that he is in charge. The rug which Abner soils are likewise critical as it symbolizes
success, different people groups. It is additionally conceivable that the rug symbolizes de Spain s
authority over Abner and that Abner is subservient to de

Why Did The US Housing Market Collapse
Once the US housing market collapsed, it created a credit crisis and crunch in the wider financial
markets. Due to the complexity of CDOs many people had no idea how much they were really worth.
Many of the CDOS were worthless and it was almost impossible to find the value of them (7). This
led to a moral hazard problem whereby there was an overall caution of banks because many had no
idea if they were even bankrupt. Inevitably, the interbank lending system crumbled whereby some
banks stopped lending to each other and to corporations altogether or only lent with very high interest
rates. Many banks who relied on interbank lending for money were heavily affected by this including
Northern Rock. Inevitably, depositors of these banks become dubious of their banks financial situation
and were provoked into withdrawing their money. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Jewish Population With A Fresh Eyes
Deshen approaches the Jewish population with a fresh eyes. Compared to the other authors of the
works we ve read previously, he skillfully illuminates the past through both an anthropological and
historical lens. His thorough examination of the mellah society, shows the uncanny threads of
commonality the Jewish diaspora throughout that wind through the ages. With this work, the
microcosm of Morocco was revealed with Deshen s discussion of various aspects of life. Modern
stereotypes of the Jewish masculinity, as well as how medieval Jews juggled the spiritual benefits of
baraka with the economic drain of hosting a sage. Most importantly, he shows the enmeshment and
entrenchment in of Jews in a majority Muslim society.
At first glance, the walls of mellah seem like an impermeable membrane between an insular Jewish
community and the majority Muslim population. However, the mellah walls hide an interconnected
society. Through making ties with government officials, Berber protectors in the countryside, and
distant relatives, Moroccan Jewry effectively spanned across Morocco. The extensive self governing
systems among the Jews each town allowed for Jews from other towns maintain connections with
their local officials. Deshen mentions that even though calling on a governing body from another
town, was largely ineffectual. But what s impressive is the fact that it was even necessary at all. It also

Christian Philosophy of Education Essay
Christian Philosophy of Education As we go through our day by day lives in a very secular world, I
believe it is very easy to question ourselves as Christian educators. We ask ourselves if we are doing
our jobs exactly to God s calling. Are we striving to teach the truth? And with that, what is truth?
According to Gaebelein in his book The Pattern of God s Truth, All truth is God s truth. As educators
we are called upon to cultivate Christlike minds (Moreland). This is quite the task, especially given
our surrounding circumstances and constant secular environment. Not only are we, as educators
surrounded by this secularism, but our young, adolescent students are as well. So, how do we

As Christian educators, we are called to promote and support learning in those areas. True teaching is
a sharing of realities, likening the teaching process and weaving connections between their teachings
and understandings themselves and the world around them. If we do not make connections for the
students to the world around them, many times these precious gifts graced upon them will be
overlooked or passed by because the young minds may not be able to recognize them. Some areas of
observation might be seen as open doors to see or perceive and understand something of God and His
motion as reflected through the created world and the Bible. Other areas might be seen as open doors
to respond, apply, express and practice in ways that are consistent with biblical values. When these
areas are discovered and embraced, many times they can address the major developmental needs in
the spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, and emotional realms of the student s life. Identifying these
areas is helping the students begin their walk with the Lord and their own calling. The teaching
learning environment should be receptive to the nature of human nature as it was originally created in
the image of God. This means it should acknowledge students as creatures of God (again, not simply
as subjects in a room) by engaging and stimulating the full

Essay on Cause of the American Civil War
The cause of the American Civil War has been a politicized subject for the past 152 years. There are
many different theories for what the main cause is, however the best answer is an all of the above
approach. The cause of the war that divided the nation cannot be narrowly defined into a single issue
but each cause is affected and tied together. The main causes that resulted in the Civil War were the
issue of nullification, tariffs, but most importantly just an overall difference in their ways of life. Yes,
slavery was a cause of the war, but that was not one of the central causes that popular belief has

Relatively few Union volunteers mentioned the slavery issue when they enlisted . McPhearson uses
letters written home or diaries as his example and most do not touch upon the issue. The question of
slavery truly became important after the Emancipation Proclamation, in 1862 3. The North started to
string victories together, moved further down south, and they witnessed slavery firsthand. That is
when the average Union soldier began to care about the issue of slavery, well into 1863. The reason
why most men enlisted in the Union in 1861 was for one major reason, that was patriotism and
keeping the spirit of 1776 alive. The Northern view on the spirit of 1776 was the goal of preserving
the Union that was created by the Founding Fathers. As one Yankee Volunteer declared, I do feel that
the liberty of the world is placed in our hands to defend and if we are overcome then farewell to
freedom . Union soldiers believed and fought for the idea that America continued to be the last best

Mcdonald s Liability
Essentially, Ritenbaugh expressed that God s word shows that He holds people accountable for
liability when people have careless disregard towards other people.
Conclusions
The case of Liebeck v. McDonald s clearly illustrates that companies must be mindful of not harming
consumers through defective provides, because consumers that are harmed by products, have the
ability to successfully win awards to be compensated for damages. With that in mind, it is
recommended that Divine Coffee Shops reduce coffee temperatures. According to the Burn

The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) and its American counterpart (SCCM)
recently unveiled an updated definition of sepsis syndrome in adults (Sepsis 3) [1]. Previous
diagnostic criteria have been revalued and retrospectively validated in several large patient databases.
The consensus document, published in the journal JAMA, have been produced by a working group of

Aged criteria with obvious flaws
The first North American, consensus based sepsis definition was published in 1992 [2]. The aim was
to bring the structure to an overgrown subject field. The concepts of severe sepsis and septic shock«
established. The definition began with a systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), where the

Probably , this can be largely explained by the absence of a rigorous definition. A patient due to mild
virosis have low grade fever and a slightly elevated heart rate but otherwise unaffected general
condition, can be categorized as septic ( overdiagnosis ) . When the immunkompetentes inflammatory
response may be considered physiologically adaptive and appropriate , the definition in this respect

and significant mortality risk escape classification as sepsis due to the absence of several SIRS criteria

When dealing with patients, especially in intensive care , it is often difficult to determine the infection

Sigmund Freud s The Interpretation Of Dreams Essay
Austrian neurologist and now considered the father of psychoanalysis , Sigmund Freud, is perhaps
known for his theories involving the human brain. During the late 1800s, his therapeutic techniques
dealing with psychopathology made him quite influential within and throughout the sphere of
psychology and his work has had a tremendous impact on modern culture and common opinion. Freud
s The Interpretation of Dreams, first published in 1899, takes into account dream interpretation and
theories involving the human brain, why humans dream and what they could mean. By conducting
free associations and interpreting numerous case histories of patients and their dreams, he established
such theories such as dreams as wish fulfillments and regression. In his dream interpretation, Freud
treated dreams as a distorted path to the unconscious and believed that the contents of a dream were
the fulfillment of a wish and its motive as a wish (Freud 143). In other words, Freud believed that the
dreamer s unconscious mind was reflected by the material within a dream and the role of these dreams
was to satisfy the basic unconscious fantasies of a human. This assertion implies that wishes those
were unable to be fulfilled in the waking life disguise themselves as symbols and imagery and
manifest in the conscious mind, administered by the pleasure principle. In Freud s point of view,
wishes are repressed desires, mainly sexual, and childhood memories that are fulfilled via dreams,

The accuracy and reliability of criminal statistics is something that has been of great discussion
through criminology for decades. Whilst some are of the belief that criminal statistics are a misuse of

articles and research, many of which highlight the main source as the dark figure of crime. Many also

Paul Laurence Dunbar Poem Analysis
Paul Laurence Dunbar is African American poet who lived from in the late 1880s to the early 1900s.
During his life, Dunbar wrote many poems, in both dialect and standard english. However, many of
his poems are considered controversial now, due to negative racial stereotypes and dialect. Currently,
some believe that Dunbar s poetry perpetuates harmful stereotypes such as use of dialect; while others
believe that it helps break racial stereotypes through the portrayed emotions. Dunbar s dialect poetry is
helpful for African Americans, because it accurately depicts the experience of African Americans and
humanizes them. The depiction black struggles within Dunbar s dialect poetry makes Dunbar s poetry
beneficial for the black race. For example, in An Ante bellum Sermon, when Dunbar writes But when
Moses wif his powah Comes an sets us chillun free, We will praise de gracious Mastah, Dat has gin us
liberty; An we ll shout ouah halleluyahs, On dat mighty reck nin day, When we se reco nised ez citiz ,
Huh uh! Chillun, let us pray! , he is depicting a common feeling of African Americans. Although this
poem takes place before the Civil War, and before Dunbar s birth, both of Dunbar s parents were ex
slaves, which gave him an understanding of slavery. With an understanding of slavery, Dunbar was
able to depict the desire for slaves to be rid of the unjust system. Beyond that, the idea is still
applicable to the time in which he lived. From one issue to another, people anticipate equality while in
dire situations. Similarly, in Song, Dunbar depicts the harmful race relations from his time. Instead of
the black experience being told from a sympathizer perspective, Dunbar has a better understanding of
what it was like to be black in the 1890s. The competition and hate between flowers symbolizes the
conflict between white and black people. Through this metaphor, especially at the end when they
celebrate the death of all daisies when he writes In de fiel de flags is wavin in a tantalizing way, Kin o
joicin case de daisies all is daid, Dunbar depicts the hateful race relations of his time. Dunbar s
representation of black issues brings attention to them, which benefits African Americans. Because

defined by a particular culture and that is largely determined by a child s upbringing is what is calls
gender roles. Gender roles vary. Different cultures impose different expectations upon the men and

Sociological Analysis Of Concrete Angel
Sociology Analysis over Concrete Angel
Zachary Gosnell
Southeast Missouri State University
SO 102 October 12, 2017
Abstract
The lyrics of Concrete Angel has meaning to it. The lyrics focus on child abuse. Child abuse is a
problem that may children all over the world face. Child abuse can be in the form of verbal and/or
physical abuse, bullying, and so on. The lyrics shows us how the obvious signs of abuse can be seen
but bystanders choose to ignore what is going on. The lyrics of Concrete Angel relates to sociology in
many ways. The lyrics relate to three perspectives of sociology. Those perspectives are conflict,
interactionism, and functionalism. The main focus of this paper is the characterization portraying the
societal issue of child abuse.
Introduction
The song I chose to do my analysis on is Concrete Angel written by Stephanie Kay Bentley and Rob
Crosby and sung by Martina McBride. I felt the song has meaning and I would be able to analysis it.
The message of the song exudes to it listener to child abuse, or any relating form of abuse. The lyrics
talk about how victims of abuse show obvious signs of physical or mental harm that bystanders
choose to ignore. Concrete Angel is about a little girl who is trapped in a life of turmoil. The song
describes her short innocent life. Her life is lived in vein as neglect and abuse plagues her. The adults
around her seem to be aware of her anguish but like most people they chose to not get

Ischemic Stroke Case Studies
I. Introduction and Background Research
This patient was admitted to the hospital exhibiting symptoms such as the inability to speak, muscle
weakness and facial numbness. From the noncontrast CT scan, the doctors concluded that she has
suffered from a lacunar ischemic stroke. An ischemic stroke occurs when blood stops flowing to part
of the brain.1 Lacunar refers to the small lacunes, or softening, found in the brain. Lacunes are most
often caused by hypertensive small artery disease which can be triggered by hypertension.2 In the
United States alone; stroke affects approximately 795,000 people and holds the title of the fourth
leading cause of death. Typically, African Americans are more susceptible to suffering from a stroke as

Reid Technique Analysis
To define, Reid technique; Reid technique leads to false confession and also police officers are
extremely racially prejudiced. Its interrogation technique developed by John Reid is used by law
enforcements in Canada and United States. It s highly effective method on in making confessions
from suspects, both guilty and innocent; With the Reid technique, physical arm twisting is replaced
with mind twisting, however I personally believe that this technique victimizes people and it put more
minorities in prison. Due to the high pleasure from the police and verbal abuse sometimes people
confess to something they haven t done. Also sometimes police are bias and verbally insulting and
offensive to certain minority groups and also because the Reid

Anne of Green Gables Research Essay
Anne of Green Gables Research Essay
Anne of Green Gables is an enchanting tale of a young orphan named Anne Shirley. Anne, who
happens to be an eleven year old orphan at the beginning of the story, eventually gets adopted
mistakenly by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. Matthew and Marilla were simply looking for a young
male orphan who would be able to assist them with physical work around the house because Matthew
was getting older, and would need an extra hand. Despite having a little girl, who was useless to them
physically, they quickly fell in love with this young girl s goodness and great qualities. It has recently
been discovered that Lucy Maud Montgomery, the author of Anne of Green gables, was suffering of
depression and loneliness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel we can see that Anne is not so fond of religion. When she gets asked to pray, she simply
does it to satisfy Marilla considering how she believes god gave her red hair on purpose. This is
another similarity found between Anne and L.M. Montgomery. At some point in Montgomery s
journals, she explains how she is against orthodox religion (DuVernet, Sylvia, p.7). There are so many
things that we can relate from the author to Anne s character, it may be coincidental, but considering
how Montgomery used writing as a therapeutic relief, it is quite evident that some of her traits and
beliefs such as the aspect of depression and
Hurtubise 4
loneliness were meant to be poured into the book (Rubio, Writing a life: L.M. Montgomery).
Anne s imagination was certainly one of her greatest attributes. Although her imagination sometimes
led her to trouble, it is in fact what made her so special and successful throughout the novel. A few
times in the story, she would catch herself daydreaming and meanwhile accidentally being the cause
of problems. A good example of this was when she was baking the cake; she ruined it due to being in
her own little world. Another case which is actually worst then the previously stated incident, is when
Anne s imagination nearly causes her to drown while reenacting a poem. Women were expected to

  • 5. Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway Essay Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway Imagination is the one weapon in the war against reality. Jules de Gaultier Set just after one of England s worst tragedies, Virginia Woolf s 1925 novel Mrs. Dalloway is a vivid picture of the effects of World War I on London s high society, often in glaring contrast to the effects of shell shock suffered by war veteran Septimus Smith. For members of high society, the War s impact is largely indirect, mainly affecting their conversations at posh social functions. Although the war has had little impact on these people, some strive to develop a deeper understanding of the War s main consequence: death. For Septimus, who has endured the direct impact of the War as a soldier, however, the memories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although a small point, it is necessary to add that even Septimus s wife, Rezia, though not in the same social circle as Clarissa, sees the impacts of the War as ordinary. When reflecting on Septimus s tendency to talk to his dead friend, Evans, Rezia thinks, [Evans] had seemed a nice quiet man; a great friend of Septimus s, and he had been killed in the War. But such things happen to everyone. Everyone has friends who were killed in the War (64). This statement is to Rezia a mere fact, which highlights that she, like those in Clarissa s circle, is also blissfully ignorant of the horrors involved in the War, drawing attention to the insurmountable gulf that exists between Septimus s experience of the War, and everyone else s imagined perception of it. Indeed, the relaying of information as mentioned above often serves as entertainment for the upper class throughout the novel, even if the entertainment is derived from such a serious topic as war related casualties. Even though millions were killed, and many injured, Clarissa s class typically cannot comprehend the brutality experienced by soldiers in combat, much less the unrelenting stresses and images that follow them long after they have left the battlefield. However, high society cannot ignore such cases of human suffering, so they become a sort of fashionable topic. At Clarissa s party, for example, Lady Bradshaw treats the subject almost casually, ... In part one of our steak series, we ll show you some contrasting opinions on one facet of perfect steak preparation: do you bring the steak to room temperature or not? Grill Store Dallas TX: Chefs Don t Agree on the Room Temperature Axiom Many people grab the steak out of the fridge, shake some salt on it, and toss it on the grill. On the other hand, ABC News quoted chef Michael Lomonaco as saying that room temperature steaks cook far too quickly. When you cook with a room temperature steak, it cooks much faster, said Lomonaco, according to ABC. Cooking with cold steaks allows you to control the temperature more, resulting in a perfectly cooked steak. We have seen fluctuations in the numbers over the years, which are, can be linked to different social fads and political agendas. Stricter drug laws have caused there to be an overflow of prisoners convicted of drug charges and have transformed these people into tax burdens instead of taxpayers. Through the investigation of the drug war with President Nixon, through the peak of drug use in the late 70 s to the rise of crack in the 80 s and into the legalization of Marijuana, This paper will explain why drugs continue to flow into America at an alarming rate and try and uncover the effectiveness of the war. Beginning in 1970, Congress passes the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control act. In addition to consolidating previous anti drug laws, the act provides federal funding for drug abuse prevention and treatment efforts. The Act establishes tough penalties for drug trafficking, but actually lessens federal penalties for the possession of marijuana. In 1971, President Nixon declares War on Drugs. To coordinate anti drug efforts, he creates the special Action Office for Drug Abuse Preventior. In 1972, the Drug Enforcement Agency ... • 8. The Success Of The Club In 2005, a shocking news hit the city of Manchester, home of the EPL s most successful club with a history of more than a hundred years: Manchester United. Their beloved club was to be acquired by an American business tycoon, Malcolm Glazer. What concerned the fans even more was the fact that most of the capital used by Glazer to purchase the team was debt and that he would load £525million of debt on to the club itself. This was problematic because it meant that money otherwise could be used to acquire top talents, improve training facilities, or towards the club s CSR activities would be used to pay back Glazer s debt. The leveraged buyout of the club was directly against the interests of the fans who are the most important stakeholder. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ever since Glazer loaded the club with £525million debt, over £680million has gone towards servicing the debt, including interest fees, bank charges, and debt repayment as of May 2014. On the other hand, the club s spending on acquisition of players during the same period was £382.9million while its rivals Manchester City has spent £693.7million, Chelsea £600.2million, Tottenham £448.2million, and Liverpool have splashed out a total of £443.75million. In other words, Man Utd spent more on servicing Glazer s debt than it did on strengthening its squad. Although Man Utd won five Premier League titles, three league cups, and a Champions League under Glazer s ownership, underinvestment eventually led to aging squad and failure to find suitable replacements. As a result, in 2013/2014 season, Man Utd finished the season in 7th place, failing to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 1990/1991 season while its neighbor, Manchester City, won the title. While Man Utd was suffering from severely deteriorated financial situation, Man City, under the ownership of an Arabian prince, Sheikh Mansour, invested heavily not only to acquiring top players, but also to building a new stadium, training facilities, and even to the community by subway construction and new homes. • 9. How Do Robots Change The World Technology has advanced and changed over time and now today, of course, it would make sense to talk about how robots may be able to change the world. We already have phones and tablets that have built in intelligent personal assistants (Apples Siri, Google Alexa, etc.) that can just about do anything you ask it to do on your device. Cars are driving themselves, imagine your favorite pizza being delivered robotically, the robotic era is on the way. And I m sure we as humans will figure out a way to adapt. American inventor George Devol created the first industrial robot in 1961, the 4000 pound robotic arm transported die castings from an assembly line and welded these parts on auto bodies, a dangerous task for workers, who could be poisoned by exhaust gas or lose a limb if they were not careful. William Cline, the main character represents your stereotype native American. This story takes place post 9/11; therefore, the level of security has been increased greatly along with the amount of hostility towards darker skinned people. William describes how he feels out of place because he has all the traits of a native American but he feels likes he needs to try in order to keep up with his culture. He points out that his wife, Marie, is the one that lives up to the title and has no cares in the world. Her culture comes natural to her and she is not self conscious about her appearance unlike her husband. Their daughter Grace, has a little bit of both parents. She has the carelessness of her mother and yet she strives to be like her dad as well. William s family lives in Seattle and they are one of the first native American families to settle there; therefore, racism is a very touchy subject. Hertz 1) The dual track process used by Ford to initiate consideration of strategic alternatives affects the bidding process for Hertz by giving Hertz another plan of attack if other viable sale opportunities fall through. By obtaining an IPO price as a base for the value of the company, Ford s strategy would give Hertz other options to retrieve necessary capital, thus reducing the amount of risk. This strategy would then give Hertz a base bid that would be either equal to or above the amount of what could be theoretically obtained from an IPO. 2) One way that Hertz conforms to be an ideal LBO candidate is the proven financial performance and pretax profit the company has generated since 1967. It was in a way painful to watch since from the beginning the audience would know what was going to happen. There are various elements that made this film an interesting disheartening comedy drama. Throughout the film the shot (lighting, costume, and set design) set the whole experience. To some the shot and camerawork and the number one priority but lack the action and dialogue and the proper actors, but beginners seemed to have a balance, much like other films. The lighting throughout the film seemed to fit the mood for example, during some scenes the shot looked smoky or cloudy, but never dark and in scenes with Hal the sun seemed to shine every time he was in the shot, and when he was happy. Another important element in the shot is costume, and it plays a major role because the way someone is dressed helps people understand them better. • 18. Junk Food Should Be Banned In Schools Long live junk food, a child s best friend who has stuck with them throughout all these years. Schools are considering to erase these long term companions from a student s educational lives once and for all. The question we are asking here is whether or not this is going to be a choice that is worth it. Junk food should not be banned in schools because banning junk food in school cannot guarantee restrictions on junk food outside of school, cutting out junk food greatly decreases school revenue, and the availability of healthier foods does not ensure proper intake of calories. When junk food is banned in school, it does not guarantee a ban everywhere else outside of school. As Radford states, Whether or not junk food is available to them at school may not have much bearing on how much junk food they eat (7). This could be due to multiple reasons. Outside of school, junk food is an inexpensive source that is widely available and any student would have access to them because of how conveniently located they are. Not only are they conveniently placed, they are also served in large portions (Reyman 1). If junk food was banned, these outside locations could then serve as escapes for students from the policies that have been placed. There will also be students who would be exempt from the policies once they are set in stone students who like to pack their own lunch (Jaonick and Cass 17). The U.S, Canada, and the U.K. recommended establishing a commission of nuclear energy under the United Nations in order to fully eliminate the possibility of nuclear energy use for destructive purposes. In the UN General Assembly, all members reached a agreement on prohibition of the possession of nuclear weapons separately. With this work, the microcosm of Morocco was revealed with Deshen s discussion of various aspects of life. Modern stereotypes of the Jewish masculinity, as well as how medieval Jews juggled the spiritual benefits of baraka with the economic drain of hosting a sage. Most importantly, he shows the enmeshment and entrenchment in of Jews in a majority Muslim society. At first glance, the walls of mellah seem like an impermeable membrane between an insular Jewish community and the majority Muslim population. However, the mellah walls hide an interconnected society. Through making ties with government officials, Berber protectors in the countryside, and distant relatives, Moroccan Jewry effectively spanned across Morocco. The extensive self governing systems among the Jews each town allowed for Jews from other towns maintain connections with their local officials. Deshen mentions that even though calling on a governing body from another town, was largely ineffectual. But what s impressive is the fact that it was even necessary at all. It also mentions that marriages were predominately arranged between men and women of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Christian Philosophy of Education Essay Christian Philosophy of Education As we go through our day by day lives in a very secular world, I believe it is very easy to question ourselves as Christian educators. We ask ourselves if we are doing our jobs exactly to God s calling. Are we striving to teach the truth? And with that, what is truth? According to Gaebelein in his book The Pattern of God s Truth, All truth is God s truth. As educators we are called upon to cultivate Christlike minds (Moreland). This is quite the task, especially given our surrounding circumstances and constant secular environment. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Christian educators, we are called to promote and support learning in those areas. True teaching is a sharing of realities, likening the teaching process and weaving connections between their teachings and understandings themselves and the world around them. If we do not make connections for the students to the world around them, many times these precious gifts graced upon them will be overlooked or passed by because the young minds may not be able to recognize them. Some areas of observation might be seen as open doors to see or perceive and understand something of God and His motion as reflected through the created world and the Bible. Other areas might be seen as open doors to respond, apply, express and practice in ways that are consistent with biblical values. When these areas are discovered and embraced, many times they can address the major developmental needs in the spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, and emotional realms of the student s life. Identifying these areas is helping the students begin their walk with the Lord and their own calling. The teaching learning environment should be receptive to the nature of human nature as it was originally created in the image of God. This means it should acknowledge students as creatures of God (again, not simply as subjects in a room) by engaging and stimulating the full ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

McPhearson uses letters written home or diaries as his example and most do not touch upon the issue. The question of slavery truly became important after the Emancipation Proclamation, in 1862 3. The North started to string victories together, moved further down south, and they witnessed slavery firsthand. That is when the average Union soldier began to care about the issue of slavery, well into 1863. The reason why most men enlisted in the Union in 1861 was for one major reason, that was patriotism and keeping the spirit of 1776 alive. The Northern view on the spirit of 1776 was the goal of preserving the Union that was created by the Founding Fathers. • 37. Sigmund Freud s The Interpretation Of Dreams Essay Austrian neurologist and now considered the father of psychoanalysis , Sigmund Freud, is perhaps known for his theories involving the human brain. During the late 1800s, his therapeutic techniques dealing with psychopathology made him quite influential within and throughout the sphere of psychology and his work has had a tremendous impact on modern culture and common opinion. Freud s The Interpretation of Dreams, first published in 1899, takes into account dream interpretation and theories involving the human brain, why humans dream and what they could mean. By conducting free associations and interpreting numerous case histories of patients and their dreams, he established such theories such as dreams as wish fulfillments and regression. In his dream interpretation, Freud treated dreams as a distorted path to the unconscious and believed that the contents of a dream were the fulfillment of a wish and its motive as a wish (Freud 143). In other words, Freud believed that the dreamer s unconscious mind was reflected by the material within a dream and the role of these dreams was to satisfy the basic unconscious fantasies of a human. This assertion implies that wishes those were unable to be fulfilled in the waking life disguise themselves as symbols and imagery and manifest in the conscious mind, administered by the pleasure principle. In Freud s point of view, wishes are repressed desires, mainly sexual, and childhood memories that are fulfilled via dreams, based on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Paul Laurence Dunbar Poem Analysis Paul Laurence Dunbar is African American poet who lived from in the late 1880s to the early 1900s. During his life, Dunbar wrote many poems, in both dialect and standard english. However, many of his poems are considered controversial now, due to negative racial stereotypes and dialect. Currently, some believe that Dunbar s poetry perpetuates harmful stereotypes such as use of dialect; while others believe that it helps break racial stereotypes through the portrayed emotions. Dunbar s dialect poetry is helpful for African Americans, because it accurately depicts the experience of African Americans and humanizes them. The depiction black struggles within Dunbar s dialect poetry makes Dunbar s poetry beneficial for the black race. For example, in An Ante bellum Sermon, when Dunbar writes But when Moses wif his powah Comes an sets us chillun free, We will praise de gracious Mastah, Dat has gin us liberty; An we ll shout ouah halleluyahs, On dat mighty reck nin day, When we se reco nised ez citiz , Huh uh! Chillun, let us pray! , he is depicting a common feeling of African Americans. Although this poem takes place before the Civil War, and before Dunbar s birth, both of Dunbar s parents were ex slaves, which gave him an understanding of slavery. With an understanding of slavery, Dunbar was able to depict the desire for slaves to be rid of the unjust system. Beyond that, the idea is still applicable to the time in which he lived. From one issue to another, people anticipate equality while in dire situations. Similarly, in Song, Dunbar depicts the harmful race relations from his time. Instead of the black experience being told from a sympathizer perspective, Dunbar has a better understanding of what it was like to be black in the 1890s. The competition and hate between flowers symbolizes the conflict between white and black people. Through this metaphor, especially at the end when they celebrate the death of all daisies when he writes In de fiel de flags is wavin in a tantalizing way, Kin o joicin case de daisies all is daid, Dunbar depicts the hateful race relations of his time.
