Whales (Cetacea) are unique among mammals in that they possess exceptionally
dense, pachyosteosclerotic tympanic bullae1. Along the margin of the bulla is a
highly mineralized, extremely dense wall of bone called the involucrum that serves
as a special adaptation to life in the sea and as a means to facilitate sound reception
and directionality underwater2,3,4. Moreover, this cetacean synapomorphy plays an
important role in distinguishing its members from the ancestral terrestrial
artiodactyls from which whales diverged5. When cut into cross sections, the
involucral region of the tympanic bullae in many mysticete (baleen whale) lineages
reveals three easily distinguishable zones of concentric laminar growth. Here we
hypothesize that these three distinct zones identified along the length of the tympanic
bullae are capable of recording life history events during early development, when the
cetacean tympanoperiotic region is known to be rapidly ossifying6. We propose that
the innermost zone (1) represents rapid in utero growth, the intermediary zone (2)
represents rapid birth and postnatal development, and the outermost zone (3),
markedly thinner, represents slower, more lamellar development from weaning on

For 10 years, I was the one testing the students, teaching strategies and finding new
ones to help students study. Suddenly, I found myself returning to school and the
anxiety, stress, lack of time, and just all the unknowns seemed to overwhelm my life.
The last couple of years I have learned to incorporate strategies that work best for me,
but there is always room for improvement and strengthening. Learning, study and test

The Splatterhouse Video
Before watching the clips, I was feeling content. I was not frustrated with anything or
anyone, I was calm and I just watched a few funny videos, which brought my mood
up even more. During the first video, immediately, my thoughts were about the
quality of the animation and the story line. As for the violence, I didn t like looking at
it. I tried to turn away a few times. I think that there was an excessive amount of
gore that could have been easily cut out, but it wasn t, because the viewers or the
gamers like it.
The second video was a lot worse in my opinion. The Splatterhouse video had some
sort of story line beside the gore, but this video only showed a first point view of a
person killing people in many different ways. Because of the quality of the video, I
didn t actually see anything too graphic, but just the idea of people enjoying this game
made me a little scared for our society.
During the third video, I thought about how believable the scenes were. The lighting
Gore and violence doesn t interest me and I actually turn away from the screen any
time there s a graphic scene in a movie, which explains why these clips didn t have
any effect on me. The only clip that slightly interested me was Saw. I thought that
the story line was interesting, but I still wouldn t watch the actual movie, because
of the violent scenes that I would have to watch. Though I had almost no interest
in these videos and found most of the scenes repulsive, I caught myself on the
thought that by the time I was watching the fourth video, I got used to the violence
portrayed in these videos. If the first video made me want to turn away from the
screen, the last video had no effect on me at all. I believe that this explains the mere

to sunny Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. I remember being very excited and anxious to
get on the airplane. I am very traditional and make sure after all of the dreaded
security and airportnonsense that we always go to the same bagel restaurant. This
always got the vacation started for me. After boarding the airplane and getting up into
the maximum altitude, I am always rest assured that in another two hours, we will be
on the ground in Florida1,000 miles away from home. On the plane ride, I find it
hard to keep still but I fell asleep and before I knew it, the pilot was announcing,
Flight Attendants, prepare for landing. This is where I make sure I have all my
belongings and begin to watch the what looked like dots on the ground turn into trees,
cars, and buildings. Soon after that, the final bump of the landing process that is
usually felt strongly throughout the plane wasn t present, and people clapped for
such a smooth landing.
Next came my least favorite part, retrieving our bags from the baggage claim. This
is always a stressful part of traveling, but during this particular trip, it was
exceptionally annoying. The conveyor belt broke causing all of the luggage to be
stopped up in the slot. This caused tremendous crowding and aggravation for travelers
in the Jacksonville International Airport.

Robert Greenleaf Servant Leadership Examples
Servant Leadership: A Brief Examination Robert K. Greenleaf first coined the term
servant leadership in his 1970 essay The Servant as Leader, later published in
1991. The leader who follows the model of service has a natural and conscious
drive to serve others before leading them. This is in contrast to those who seek to
lead first to increase power or personal wealth. While many have analyzed Greenleaf
s work over the years and identified qualities of a servant leader, there are ten qualities
that represent a concise and accurate list of behaviors and personality traits needed by
any servant leader to be successful. These qualities are listening, empathy, healing,
awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment...
Spears (2010) describes foresight as the ability to foresee the likely outcome of a
situation, (p.28). It is a quality that stems from years of experience and can be
difficult to learn and master. The leader that wishes to use foresight must be able to
integrate past experiences with current evidence and research to predict the course
of a treatment or business model. It relies heavily the intuitive abilities of the leader
and gut feelings about a situation. It could be seen as the point of mastery in one s
craft where the day to day operations and logical processes become so ingrained in
how one operates, that it comes naturally and with very little thought
