The Matchmaker Analysis
The golden age of the big budget musical may remain lost to the annals of old Hollywood, some may
argue that classics will always be better than their reimagined counterparts, but this is hardly the case
in all circumstances. The 1969 big screen adaptation of Hello, Dolly! proves that sometimes the
original star power of a cast can be overridden decades later. The 2017 Broadway revival of Hello
Dolly! supports the idea that while people may become accustomed to hearing a song a certain way, a
new interpretation of the materials can lead to blockbuster success. Despite the glitter and grandeur of
the on screen film adaptation s costuming and set design, the 2017 iteration of the musical, based on
Thornton Wilder s play The Matchmaker, shows that big budgets and sweeping landscapes are not
needed; opting to go with garishly bright pastels and impeccable choreography to stir the imaginations
and win the hearts of millions of theatergoers.
Starring Barbra Streisand and Walter Matthau, the 1969 film certainly attempted to bring the star
power but hostility that developed between Walter Matthau and Barbra Streisand (TCM) turned into
anything but a love story when presented on the big screen. Both actors shared a mutual dislike that
caused a very clear disconnect onset, where Matthau refused to be in the same room as Streisand
unless they were filming (TCM). In front of the camera, Mathau comes across as a crass old
businessman who cares for no one but himself, while

Literature Review Of Literature On Influenza
Review of literature: Acute respiratory infections are a major cause of human disease and are one of
the most important causes of child mortality throughout the globe. Though there are considerable
variations in infantile mortality, according to World Health Organization, the lower respiratory tract
infections are the second most important cause of death among children 5 years of age. (Carolina et
al., 2012)
Respiratory syncytial virus is most frequently detected in childhood illness. Factors predisposing to
severe ARI caused by RSV are well known in industrialized countries but little information exists for
developing countries. Infection with human metapneumovirus (HMPV) presents similar clinical
symptoms to that of RSV . Despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The multiplication of the virus occurs in the respiratory tract and the main site of infection occurs in
the ciliated columnar epithelial cell. Crowded areas and cold climate favours the spread of the virus.
Highest incidence of influenza infection is seen in young population which may be due to lack of
exposure to different strains. Children are mainly affected during epidemics (Rao, 2003). The
influenza virus triggers pulmonary inflammation resulting in infiltration of inflammatory cells and an
immune response. The primary target and the principal host for the virus are Bronchial epithelial cells.
Generally influenza viruses are recognized and destroyed by innate immune mechanisms which
includes macrophages, interferon (IFN) a, b and other cytokines, natural killer (NK) cells and
complement. If influenza viruses escape from these early defense mechanisms, they are captured and
destroyed by adaptive immune mechanisms, where T and B cells and their antigen specific effectors
(cytotoxic T lymphocytes, cytokines such as IFNc and antibodies) target the virus. subsequent viral
infection is prevented by Antigen specific memory cells (T and B cells) (Capelozzi et al.,

Ancient Civilizations And The Egyptian Civilization
William McNeill, author of A World History, is in accordance with the belief that ancient civilizations
who were in constant contact with conflict and war could develop a more advanced system of law,
bureaucracy, and market prices. By that logic, Mesopotamia would have been far more advanced than
Egypt. For example, Mesopotamia frequented attacks from barbarians because of the lay of the land.
They also had trouble controlling war between centers of industry due to the inevitable struggle with
the course of the river. On the Egyptian side, the high levels of land surrounding the Nile, outside of
where the Egyptian civilization laid its ground, made it very difficult for barbarians to invade. Egypt
also adopted the Sumerian influences and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also many limits on women and marriage and divorce procedures. In Mesopotamian society,
the wealthy man who owned property, otherwise known as the seignior, was the most well respected
individual. The punishments for a seignior committing an act against another seignior, a member of
government, or another supreme institution like the state or church, was highly extreme, mainly
resulting in equal torture, ultimate death or death via thrown into the river. For example, If a seignior
has destroyed the eye of a member of the aristocracy, they shall destroy his eye (32, R). However, if a
seignior were to commit a crime against a commoner, slave, or women, the punishment would be
vastly less extreme. If he has destroyed the eye of a commoner or broken the bone of a commoner, he
shall pay one mina of silver (32, R). A system of law that is not just for every punishment and for
everyone, no matter the social class, is not a just system. By instituting harsher punishments and
inequality, Mesopotamia was establishing a foundation of failure. On the other hand, Egypt s, The
Book of the Dead, isn t necessarily a law code like the Code of Hammurabi, but there is evidence of
law within its context. Egypt believed highly in obtaining a life free of wrongdoing in order to enter
into the afterlife. After death, an Egyptian, more than likely a wealthy man, stands in front of the hall
of Two Justices and renounces sin to

Boom Blast Diamond Club Research Paper
Boom Blast Diamond Dawgs Winter Park, Fla. The Altamonte Springs Boom defeated the Winter
Park Diamond Dawgs 8 0, in eight innings, Wednesday night at Alfond Stadium. However, the story
was Brett Morales (Florida), who tossed 7.2 scoreless innings, with no walks and six strikeouts. Alex
Young () drove a two strike pitch through the left side of the infield to break up his perfect game.
Coach Kevin Davidson would come out to get Morales and the crowd, mostly Diamond Dawg fans, to
give him a standing ovation. Most people in the stadium was disappointed when the pitch before the

Springs broke open the game with five runs. His pitching line was not indicative of how well he
pitched, and he took a tough loss. The sixth inning was when everything changed, as the Boom sent 10
batters to the plate, and scored five runs, giving them a 7 0 lead. Matt Piatt notched two hits and RBIs
in the inning, including his leadoff home run over the right center field wall. It was his first on the
season. Brandon Sedell (Nova Southeastern), Hoover and Chris Townsend (Central Arkansas) set the

Functions of Management 1. Planning When management is reviewed as a process, planning is the
first function performed by a manager. The work of a manager begins with the setting of objectives of
the organization and goals in each area of the business. This is done through planning. A plan is a
predetermined course of action to accomplish the set objectives. It is today s projection for tomorrow s
activity. Planning includes objectives, strategies, policies, procedures, programs, etc. As it involves
making choices, decision making is the heart of planning. 2. Organizing Organizing includes putting
life into the plan by bringing together personnel, capital, machinery, materials etc., to execute the
plans. While, planning decides what management wants to do, organizing provides an effective
machine for achieving the plans. 3. Staffing Staffing involves filling the positions needed in the
organization structure by appointing competent and qualified persons for the job. This needs
manpower 4. Directing Direction involves managing managers, managing workers and the work
through the means of motivation, proper leadership, effective communication as well as co ordination.

The Importance Of Academic Writing
The academic writing process has been around for ages, so the attributes that a scholarly piece, such as
this one, must possess in order to be efficient are no secret. All academic pieces of writing must have a
mix of the following qualities: objectivity, accuracy, and complexity. These attributes must remain
intact and must not waiver throughout each step of the writing process. This very process that forces
students to set creativity aside is proposed to assist in critical thinking skills, writing skills, and
embracing of a higher complexity of vocabulary, among other things, is often given much more credit
than is truly due. Both authors that wrote Academically Adrift: Limited Learning on College
Campuses conducted a study that took ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Breaking down each stage of the process and setting shorter term milestones and deadlines is also
recommended. Although many students will continue to procrastinate their papers, the students that
actively participate in the introductory stage of planning are setting themselves up to adopt this
efficient time management method in other facets of daily life. Most of the truly genuine planning
occurs in this stage. Once students have a keen understanding of what they re being asked to do, they
can continue to the planning stage of the writing process. In the planning stage, students do most of
their research on their respective topics. It s important that the main objective of the paper remain in
the forefront of students research, given that the first few searches that come up may not be relevant to
their topics. In this stage, students learn what it means to remain vigilant and not wander from the task
at hand. Students will encounter frustration regarding the relevancy of search results; however, this
frustration leads to learning how to craft efficient search queries regarding their topic. Students should
deconstruct their topic into various key points that must be addressed, then research and gather
information distinct to said points. Depending on the individual, gathering citations can be
interchangeable between steps. One may argue that

Interpreter Of Maladies By Jumpha Lahiri
The Society is made up of different people with different color and personality, tribes, religion and
culture. That differences lead to the way we see each other and behaves towards each other as black or
white, man or woman and friend or enemy. In other words, the way we see each other leads to the way
we relate to each other. In Jumpha Lahiri s story in Interpreter of Maladies , the differences in age,
culture and personality leads to how Mrs. Das and Mr. Kapasi sees each other. Mrs. Das sees Mr.
Kapasi as a father, a dependable person and a lover while
In brief, Mr. Kapasi sees Mrs. Das as a young lover and an unfaithful wife. Mr. Kapasi is an Indian
tour guide, and a driver while Mrs. Das is a mother of three kids and a woman of Mr. Das. They are
the main characters of the story.
Illusionary, Mrs. Das sees Mr. Kapasi as a father because of his hair color and the way he appears.
Though Mrs. Das show no interest in Mr. Kapasi from the beginning, she confined in him later when
she realizes Mr. Kapasi s job as an interpreter in a Doctor s office. In age, Mr. Kapasi is older than
Mrs. Das. That leads Mrs. Das to think that Mr. Kapasi may have years of experience in situations
around him, in relationship and marriage, and in life than her and can therefore advise her on what to
do to solve her problem in marriage and reduces her stress. Because Mr. Kapasi is an interpreter of

Morality and Success Essay
Is there a contradiction between our demand that our children be honest and moral persons and our
demand that they be successful? Present the argument that there is a contradiction, and see if you can
answer it.
Morality has taken a backseat to success. Today s parents preach the same line of virtues to their
children as did their parents and many parents before them; be honest and work hard and good things
will come to you. But today s children are pressured to obtain their success, by their parents and
society, by often violating that very moral code, skirting the shores and sometimes diving into the
troubled waters of unethical behavior. Historically, most ethical traditions culminate with the thought
that just living is the way to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the student from the video series justifies his cheating on an exam because he believed
he was at a disadvantage, since he lacked the money to purchase the study guide. Even the Ivy League
is not immune. In 2013 Columbia and sister school Barnard had high profile cheating incidents, and in
2012 Harvard experienced levels of cheating seven times the norm. In a survey sent to the class of
2017 freshmen bound for Harvard, in which 80 percent participated, 1 in ten admitted to cheating on
tests and 42 percent cheated on homework. In our Military Academies, honor codes are drilled into the
heads of every cadet, midshipman and airman. This environment encourages fierce competition to
achieve success in complex situations that are designed to eliminate even the best and brightest
candidates. These military institutions pride themselves on maintaining strict honor codes that have
been the cornerstones of integrity throughout time. But the demand to excel becomes the very tool that
encourages the do anything to achieve mentality. Repeated incidents of cheating from 1976 through
2012, at every prestigious military academy, reinforce this contradiction of morality versus success in
our society.
Aristotle believed that in order for children to consistently perform right actions, they must first be
shown what is right and practice these actions until they are a habit. (SR pg 31) This is where society
is not following through with this ideal.

Our small town of Al Yarmouk had been threatened as the troops were approaching. My father had
decided that it would be best for us to depart from our house and head to his family home on the other
side of the Tigris River. In the early hours of the morning we packed up the car and locked the doors.
My mother collected all of our gold jewelry and put them in a small black box. I saw my mom dig the

Canonical Criticism Paper
Canonical Criticism
Introduction:
This paper appraises the biblical approach known as Canonical criticism. The paper will illustrate the
historical dimension of this biblical method, and its methodologies. It is assumed that the evaluation of
the different canonical approaches by the two key scholars: Brevard Childs and James Sanders will
explicate the principles of this biblical method, and of course supply insightful concepts for clearer
understanding of the canon criticism.
Historical Development of the canon:
How was the canon formed? The process of the canonisation of the scriptures was not by a formal
ruling of any council. Canonical development underwent rigorous and challenging difficulties because
of the following influences: Gnosticism, Marcion, Montanism and Persecution, which impacted how
the canon was formed. Gnosticism for example, affected early Christianity in the choice of selected
writings they held as authoritative. Again, Marcion rejected Old Testament books as authoritative for
the Christians. He (Marcion) favoured the New Testament books, which includes the gospel that
esteems Christ as the recognised and authoritative books. Yet again, Montanism, an apocalyptic
movement of the second half of the second century also impacted the formation of the canon of the
New Testament. Furthermore, some essential scripts were lost because of Christian

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr s words on April 3, 1968 at Mason Temple in Memphis Tennessee speaks
through the ages and still grips me with an eerie feeling of prophetic conviction. King s stirring words
that night were classical pieces of rhetoric that will be preserved as a place mark for the civil rights
movement. When a sick, but yet powerful King bellowed out to the audience I may not get there with
you, but I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the promise land! ; he was eerily
suggesting that his life may possibly be ending soon but the movement continuing. This part of the
speech is moving but yet stirring, and to many of the people in attendance that night, disturbing. Here
is this iconic figure telling a packed congregation of weary, yet persistent people that he may not make
the journey into the land that produces a brighter day and better opportunities. This likens to the
biblical story of Moses. After leading the Children of Israel out of bondage for so long and tirelessly
working to get them to the land of Canaan Moses is told by God that he will not be the one to lead
them into the land flowing with milk and honey and that he will not enter therein at all. It is unnerving
to think that Martin knew that his time was at hand. That he had led his people as far as he could lead
them. The melancholy mood brought on by the thought of King s premature death turns into an
emotional cry of self assurance but also a dramatic exhale and a

Pros And Cons Of Unethical Manufacturing
Brands, the world s face of everyday products not complete thought American Eagle , Forever 21,
Nike we crave name brands that show society we make enough money to afford those trendy,
fashionable items. Yet, these are the very companies that create an appalling byproduct: unethical
manufacturing. Unethical manufacturing, in other words the immoral treatment of workers through
use of child labor, low wages, and large corporations are intent on reaping the poor labor pool of third
world countries. The already depleted resources these countries have is being stripped away by brands.
When companies look for labor they seek the cheapest, most efficient means of making their product.
Many brands start out with American manufacturers and move production overseas in an effort to
lower cost and increase profit. While overseas hiring may subsequently lower production cost, it
subjects those countries working class citizens to the high demands of western companies. We are all
familiar with the Walmart slogan Everyday low prices ; Walmart among other companies strives to
keep prices low to succeed in competitive capitalist markets. It is that competition between
companies, in and effort to meet consumer demands, that eventually leads to overseas hiring and in
turn unethical manufacturing. Anna McMullen from CNN describes why unethical and unsafe
working conditions arise. As the demand for cheap clothing grows in the west, brands continue to look
for ways to race to the

The Big Data Is Preserve Privacy Information Of The...
The most important and significant challenge in the big data is to preserve privacy information of the
customers, employees, and the organizations. It is very sensitive and includes conceptual, technical as
well as legal significance. Any collected information about a person, when combined with other sets
of data, can lead to the finding of persons secret and private information. As big data expands the
sources of data it can use, the trustworthiness of each data source needs to be verified, and techniques
should be explored to identify maliciously inserted data (Jaseena K.U. Julie M. David). Big data gives
us a significant opportunity in the field of national security, a breakthrough of diseases, medical
researchers, marketing and business analysis, urban planning, and so on. But these exceptional
advantages of big data are also restricted by the privacy concerns and the data protection. On the other
side, privacy is a huge concern. Critical pieces of information of users are collected and used in
furtherance to add value for any businesses. This is done by exploiting the insight in their personal
information, and in most of the cases, users are totally unaware of it. The user might not want to share
his/ her information. But, it is already being known to the data owner without the consent or even
knowledge of it to the user. Unauthorized release of information, unauthorized modification of
information and denial of resources are the three categories of security

Examples Of Observation On Child Observation
Observation of Child Behaviour
1) Introduction:
The purpose of this paper is to analyse my observations of a child s development that I was able to
observe. This paper is about child observation on different domains such as Physical Development,
Language Development, Cognitive Development and Social and Emotional Development. Each
domain contains a description of child during the recorded observation.
I described below about the characteristic of the child s development. The purpose of observing the
young child is to guide and enable teachers to provide appropriate, critical guidance based on the child
needs, and to provide objective, insightful feedback and engage parents in their child s development.

Access Controls Provide A Mechanism
Introduction
Access Controls provide a mechanism, which allows an administrator to ensure that appropriate
techniques are in place to control how users interact with an IT system. It provides an avenue where
restrictions can be developed, specifying what a user can do, the resources they can access, and the
functions they can execute on a system. It is aligned with the three main security principles;
confidentiality, integrity and availability. This alignment ensures that data and resources within an IT
system will remain confidential as required, the structure will remain intact and these objects will
remain available, so as not to diminish the functionality of the system. Access controls that are
incorporated into a security plan are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the difficulties in managing this access arises from the need to provide a variety of user s
access, each requiring a different type of access to the system. For the sake of security, the need to
manage this access should be defined by one or more of the following frameworks; Role Based
Access Control (RBAC), Discretionary Access Controls (DAC), Mandatory Access Control (MAC),
and Mandatory Access Control (MAC).
Statement of Purpose
The current state of the organization s access control management system is consistent with that of the
DAC model. A recent move to outsource certain business practices and continued organizational
growth has created an environment where increases in employee hiring s and employee turnover are
inevitable. An analysis of various methods of access control has been requested, so that we can better
understand how specific access control attacks are perpetrated and their origin. Information will be
collected and then analyzed in order to substantiate any recommended changes to the current access
control configurations. RBAC, DAC, and MAC will be compared and contrasted, in order to gain
insight, as to how each plays a role in reducing the risk to a system, along with identifying the
strengths and weaknesses of each. These results, along with a detailed recommendation will be
presented to executive management, in order to generate the necessary support for altering the current
program

Symbolic Elements in The Lord of the Flies by William Golding
In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding the stranded boys come into contact with some
particular elements that represent an idea which are called symbols. These symbols include the beast
which represents the fear of the unknown and the darkness of mankind. The second symbol is the
signal fire which represents hope. The third symbol is the conch shell which represents order. Golding
indicates that when man is taken out of civilization, they have a natural instinct is to become evil,
darkness and barbaric and these symbols help to support his opinion.
One of the main problems that the boys had on the island was the beast. In their minds the beast was a

The fire was his only hope of keeping it together and acting like a human being. Once it was gone, so
was any hope of being civilized.
One of the most important symbols in Lord of the Flies is the conch shell. It represents law, order and
power. The shell was the only way to gather everybody from their scattered places on the island.
When the conch was blown the boys knew that the chief had something important to say. Once
everyone was gathered at the meeting, the holder of the shell was the only person allowed to speak. In
the novel, Golding compared the conch shell to its opposite; the pig s head. The head contradicted the
shell because it characterized chaos and terror. The shell also emphasized that power is fake. A flag is
no more meaningful than the conch that Ralph had. It s the meaning behind it and the meaning that
people give it that makes it important. Rules are only powerful if everyone agrees on them. Ralph
realized this once Jack left and took most of the group with him. If he blew the conch and no one
came, the shell would lose all of its power. If I blow the conch and they don t come back; then we ve
had it. We shan t keep the fire going. We ll be like animals. We ll never be rescued. (Golding 124)
When the conch breaks, so does Ralph s power and Jack takes his spot as chief.

Some debacles of race include those of a minority population being targeted, however the opposite is

Artemis and Apollo were furious and came to Thebes to punish Niobe. The very next day, all seven

The Effects Of Heroin Abuse
Heroin use has steadily increased post Vietnam to current day, although it has seen a sharp climb in
recent years. This sudden spark in heroin addiction is termed the Heroin epidemic. The Heroin
epidemic can affect all members of society, and it does not discriminate between race, income level or
gender; the government fights the war on drugs but the community and mass media are vital in the
total annihilation of addiction and the epidemic. Many Heroin users first interacted with opioids, such
as painkillers which is a close relative to heroin, but the cost was too much, so they turned to a cheap
and destructive drug, Heroin. Heroin inherits its addictiveness from the opioid family. Opioids are
extremely addictive painkillers such as OxyContin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The drug is a part of the highly addictive opioid family, which are used to make painkillers needed by
many Americans. The issue is that the many Americans who have used painkillers, whether prescribed
or taken illegally, are forty times more likely to try heroin ( Today s Heroin Epidemic ). The epidemic
is hard to control because it effects everyone. Not one gender, race or economic level is considered
safe from the abuse of this substance. The government has been attempting to end the high levels of
abuse in America since the late sixties, but old methods proved costly and ineffective. The
transitioning of viewing heroin addiction as a crime to mental health has reaped some benefits.
Facilities now a days have made break throughs in assuring better futures for addicts by proving them
with proper treatment and arming them with correct knowledge of how to combat their disease.
Heroin has sparked an important discussion in society involving media, race, sex and economic status,
and the epidemic forced the federal government to act accordingly, which allowed communities to
properly react and try to lower addiction. Though the rise of heroin use will most likely continue, the
epidemic has to eventually come to an end; whether the government makes a final push to eliminate
drug use completely or police enforcement cuts down on dealers, the epidemic eventually

America s Two Party Political System Essay
While gearing up for the 2016 election, it was extremely clear that this election was going to be a
turning point in American politics. Ever since the 2016 Presidential candidates started campaigning
over a year ago, one thing is becoming very clear: America s two party political system is in disarray.
Party systems in the United States are inherently unstable. Because it is a two party system, the party
that wins is the party that builds the biggest coalition. But the bigger the coalition, the more unstable it
is (Drutman). The struggle is finding solutions to fix it. It definitely did not help that businessman
Donald Trump became president. Currently, there are two main parties in the United States federal
system: the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. There are also many third party alternatives
that are struggling to change the way we look at politics. To make sense of America s two party
political system, we must first go back to 1776 when Federalists and Anti Federalists were first
established. The Federalists advocated for a strong and centralized national government that promoted
economic growth in order create friendly relationships with Great Britain. Furthermore, the Federalists
supported a national bank, tariffs, and a loose interpretation of the United States Constitution. On the
contrary, the Anti Federalists opposed a strong, centralized government and did everything in their
power to minimize the power given to the federal government.

Literary Devices In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
Eugenia Collier, the author of the short story Marigolds makes great use of literary devices such as
imagery, diction, flashback, and juxtaposition in a way that creates a voice for the narrator that
conveys both the regret over, and possibly the longing for her childhood. The diction, that is, the
vocabulary choice is expertly combined with imagery, or the unique descriptions and sensory details,
in order to allow the reader to formulate the experiences and the surroundings of the narrator s
childhood in their imaginations. Flashback is used to allow the narrator to not only explain how she
viewed the events of her past as a child, but to compare these views with her adult feelings of the same
events. Juxtaposition aids in further explaining the connection between the setting and emotions of the
main character, creating a better picture of the narrator s life. These elements all combine to construct
a narrative that effectively conveys the coming of age theme. The first literary devices that are to be
discussed are diction and imagery. Diction is the vocabulary demonstrated by the author, and how the
objective and subjective meaning of the words and phrases the author chooses to utilize help construct
and expand the narrative. An example of diction used uniquely by the author can be seen in paragraph
twelve of Marigolds when this sentence is used: the idleness whose prospect had seemed so beautiful
during the busy days of spring now had degenerated to an almost

How Lean Manufacturing And How It Can Be Applied Within A...
LITERATURE REVIEW
Introduction
This literature review aims to achieve insight into lean manufacturing and how it can be applied
within a production environment. In today s global market, it is important for maker withstand to
remain competitive in their market and to understand the principles of lean manufacturing and the step
tp implement them to ensure that they are on the leading edge of manufacturing. This literature review
describes the lean concepts that are used in this project.
Lean Manufacturing
In the spring of 1950, a young Japanese engineer named Eiji Toyoda visited Ford s huge plant in
Detroit (Dennis,2002). He studied every corner of that Rouge, the world s largest and most efficient
manufacturing complex plant. Upon his return to Japan, Eiji and his production genius, Taiichi Ohno,
determined that the same mass production system would not work in japan. Taiichi Ohno already
knew that workers were his most valuable resource. In the years to come, Ohno and his team
developed activities to fully involve team members in enhancement an utterly novel idea.
The Toyota production System, or Lean production, was the ultimate solution to Toyota s problems
(Dennis,2007). Over next 30 years, Taiichi Ohno solved numerous problems related to lean production
in order to push his system through Toyota. Nowadays, the Toyota Production System (TPS) is used in
accordance with lean manufacturing across the world (Tapping,2007). But today we face the same

The Ratio And Profitability Ratio
Profitability Ratio Profitability is important in determining if a company is maximizing wealth
because it measures the efficiency and performance of the overall company functions. It is used to
determine the worth of investment to stocks. There is two type of profitability ratios. Margins and
returns are the profitability ratios. A margin ratio for profitability is cash flow margin. The formula for
cash flow margin is cash flow from operating cash flow/ net sales from the cash flow statement. The
ratios represent the ability to convert sales dollars into profits at a different point for measurement.
Investors, creditors, and manager have the powerful view the inner workings of Nucor with margin
ratio. The higher the percentage the better the performance by companies. Nucor had an unstable
performance level between 2011 to 2015. The best year is 2015 with 4.5%. The worst year is 2012
with .26%. The mean percentage for cash flow margin for 2011 to 2015 is 1.6% from the growth of
operating sales. The sale by Nucor is recycled cash flow to pay dividends, suppliers, service debt, and
invest new capital assets. Nucor could have problems translating sales into cash if sales are down or
operation cost are high. A returns profitability ratios are cash return on assets. The formula for a cash

The Impact Of Technology On The Music Industry Essay
Technology has brought many advantageous opportunities to the music industry in the area of
production and distribution. Besides popular and valuable instruments such as the electric guitar and
the synthesizer, technology has brought us new production equipment such as high fidelity
microphones, re mastering equipment and CD ROMs that provide us with a crystal clear sound of the
recording. The development of these equipment has allowed the audience to experience a higher
quality of sound coming from both live concerts and recordings.
Easiness of transportation that came along with the technological developments in the sector, has
allowed the record labels to distribute music all around the world. During the 1950s turbojet engines
were cleared for civilian use, and with new civil jet engine cargo aircraft distribution of almost any
item became easier and faster than ever before. The evolution of the computer and the Internet was
also a great distribution advantage for the music industry and should not be underestimated. New
sound formats, such as the MP3, have made music distribution easier. Companies could now provide
selling licenses to companies that would allow users to download certain songs from the Internet at a
very high speed. The music industry also got many opportunities for advertisements since they were
now not limited to billboards, TV and radio. Many companies can now promote their records by
playing a preview for the user, on certain websites.

Demand Reflection
The most important thing I ve learned in this class so far has been analyzing supply and demand and
how different real life scenarios affect each of them. It seems like everything in this class so far has
boiled down to supply and demand graphs, so I am sure these curves are the most important concept
we have learned this far. More specifically, I ve finally learned beyond the basics of supply and
demand. Before this course, I could infer when supply and demand change, simply based on logic, but
now I can see and understand the more complex side of it. Now I know the difference between a shift
in the curves or a movement along the curves well enough so that I can answer questions about
situations quickly and accurately. I know that a change in quantity supplied and demanded is a
movement along the fixed curve while a change in supply or demand is a shift of the curve. With that,
I can access economic situations and see how outside factors affect the curves. Also, now that I know
those basics, I can focus on learning the more complex ideas that the curves show, such as elasticity,
equilibrium prices, surplus and shortages, price ceilings and floors, and the effects of taxes. I know
determinants of elasticity, how to calculate equilibrium prices, what constitutes as a shortage or a
surplus, and now I m discovering price ceilings, floors, and taxes.

Narrative Complexity Of A Murder

Narrative Complexity of a Murder
Through advancements in technology over the years, a new form of television surrounded by the idea
of narrative complexity arose (Mittell 31). In Jason Mittell s book, Complex TV: The Poetics of
Contemporary Television Storytelling, he argues that narratively complex programs allows viewers to
participate actively by underlining the conventional traditions of storytelling, but also integrating
inventive and long term strategies to attract viewers and create a fan base. This idea of narrative
complexity stems from the balance between both television s traditional episodic form and serial form.
ABC s breakout television show, How to Get Away with Murder, is an example of a program that
implements devices such as nonlinear storytelling and seasonal arcs in order to develop a complex
narrative that fosters engagement in audiences and comments on contemporary TV viewing.
In his book, Complex TV: The Poetics of Contemporary Television Storytelling, Mittell argues that
different media has an operational aesthetic that conforms to the conceptualization of a form of
television storytelling called narrative complexity . In order to explain the notion of operational
aesthetic, in class Professor Jackson explained that it is the way that media makers orchestrate the
plot, narrative and story of a television show in an unusual way. One way that the hit

He mention that Canadian seem to prefer more direct approach than Americans. (244).In his research,
American culture with less power distance using a friendly facades. As a result, business letters in
America starts with Dear friend (244). On the other hand Canadians prefer business letters with a
more formal tone which establishes more power distance. A Canadian focus is only on the products
and services, anything other than that is insincere.
Business letters in America use economics, nationalistic and patriotic sensibilities to sell their products
and services. In contrast, Canadians prefers to have facts, professionalism, and confidential analysis of
products and services, enhancing the credibility and trustworthiness of businesses. Canadians view the
extrinsic rewards in the products and services with suspicion suggesting that it may not worth
purchasing. He also observes that the US market is larger and more complex than the Canadian
market. US businesses include a brief explanation of them; whereas, Canadian businesses assume
customers to know who they are.
In the U.S. presidential campaign, Bill Clinton put the date and hand written sign to reduce the
distance with the general people by making it more personal. They want to believe that politicians are
more in touch with the general people by greeting Dear Friend in their letter as a polite greeting from

The Current Rate Of Adoption
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY
An oft heard phrase in education has become both a directive and a duty for educators: We must meet
students where they are. This phrase refers to an obligation to meet students needs by matching
instructional methods to their levels and preferences. In this era of rapid technological innovation and
change, many students have embraced the use of Social Networking Sites (SNS) such as Facebook
and spend much of their time in its virtual spaces. Despite its popularity with college students, it is
unclear if university faculty educators feel that SNSs are appropriate places to go to meet their
students needs. This study seeks to explore this question by comparing faculty and students as to their

211). While many SNSs are in the early stages of development, the adoption of the concept has been
rapid. The study proposed here focuses specifically on the adoption of SNSs by students and faculty in
higher education.
Though SNSs have attained remarkable popularity, Facebook has become the most popular,
particularly among people of ages 17 to 25 (Melber, 2008). Recent studies indicate that the number of
older users is increasing rapidly (Kirkpatrick, 2009), but currently more than 90% of college students
have a Facebook account (Haywoode, 2010; Loveland, 2011). Thus, the substantial number of college
students using this technology has compelled many educators to wonder if there are potential benefits
for the use of Facebook to support education.
According to Santovex (2006), colleges and universities can use Facebook to engage students
academically and build relationships with faculty (p. 5). As retention has become a focal point for
many universities, several studies have suggested methods for universities to manage retention more
effectively. John N. Gardner, founder and senior fellow of the National Resource Center for The First
Year Experience and Students in Transitions, has visited many campuses, proposing to student affairs
professionals that involvement and sense of connectedness

Archduke Franz Ferdinand Of Austria

It is the year of 1914 and the archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria is assassinated in Sarajevo, Bosnia.
Multiple accounts of threatening orders succeed after this incident leading up to the breakout of World
War I in which the lands of Germany, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire (the Central Powers)
were pitted against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy and Japan (the Allied Powers).
Austria Hungary s expectation was that Serbia would reject the remarkably severe terms of the

Britain, allied to France by a more loosely worded treaty which placed a moral obligation upon her to
defend France, declared war against Germany on 4 August. Japan, honoring a military agreement with
Britain, declared war on Germany on 23 August 1914.
In short, Italy was committed to defend Germany and Austria Hungary only in the event of a defensive
war; arguing that their actions were offensive she declared instead a policy of neutrality.
Gavrilo Princip, Ferdinand s assassin and member of the Black Hand secret societyWhat was intended
as a strictly limited war a brief war between accuser and accused, Austria Hungary and Serbia, rapidly
escalated into something that was beyond the expectations of even the most warlike ministers in
Berlin (and certainly Vienna, which quickly became alarmed at spiralling events in late July and
sought German reassurances).
Bismarck, first Prime Minister of Prussia and then Chancellor of the German Empire (once he had
assembled it), set about the construction of Germany through high politics judiciously assisted by war
against Austria and France. The resulting war lasted just seven weeks hence its common title The
Seven Weeks War and ended with the complete dominance of the supremely efficient Prussian
military. Bismarck s creation of a unified Germany was of direct relevance to the outbreak of war
some 43 years later, since it resulted in the assembly of the key alliances that later came into play.

Indi A Country Of Personal Laws
INTRODUCTION
India s history is testimony to the fact that it s been a country of personal laws. The reality in India has
always been much more complex than other societies, which have been totally secularized. The
process of secularization in India, though not negligible has been far more slow and tortuous. And no
law however ideal can become acceptable if it alienates people and ignores social realities. A law has
to be socially rooted in order to be acceptable. In India, there are different set of laws for different
communities pertaining to personal matters like marriage, divorce, property, adoption, inheritance and
maintenance. The Uniform Civil Code implies covering all these personal laws into one unified set of

fundamental in the governance of the country and it shall be the duty of the State to apply these

from its context and other provisions of the constitution which are relevant on this behalf. The word

four out of ten American women s pregnancies are terminated by abortion (Induced Abortion in the
United States). Sondra Forsyth, a journalist, wrote stories about three teens that got pregnant and their

First, there is the medical abortion. Medical abortion, sometimes called Mifeprex™, RU 486, is a non
surgical abortion done using medication. There are two different methods of medical abortion
available: mifepristone followed by misoprostol and methotrexate followed by misoprostol.
Mifepristone is a pill that is swallowed by the patient. It interferes with a woman s ability to produce a
hormone called progesterone, which is needed for the fetus to grow. MTX or methotrexate is a drug or
injection that stops embryonic cell growth and stops from growing outside the uterus. Misoprostol is
either swallowed by the patient or placed in the vagina by the doctor. The second type of abortion is
surgical abortion, also known as vacuum aspiration. Surgical abortion is when a doctor removes a
fetus from the uterus. Ectopic pregnancy is an abnormal pregnancy that grows outside the uterus and
is often found in the fallopian tube, and it is very dangerous because it can harm a woman or threaten
her future fertility (Abortion: Which Method is Right for Me?).
In conclusion, abortion should not be legal, even though abortion may take a burden off the woman s
shoulders. Abortion should be illegal because it is the killing of an innocent human being. A baby
deserves the right to live. Not only does abortion destroy a human life, but it can also severely affect
the mother, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Life is sacred and not meant to be broken. It goes
against the sixth commandments, and the landmark case of Roe v. Wade. People should be more

As well as this, productive working relationships enable consistent messages to be communicated to
the shareholders to keep them informed about the business. Improved customer service can also be
seen with working relationships, which is important in the retail industry and no less so when working
in a company such as GAP and according to their training programme, Provide exceptional customer
service, to meet their customer s requirements.
Developmental Stages
From the early stages of a team forming, to the end when a team complete its goal(s) there are many
dis agreements that need to resolved and many responsibilities to be taken up and these are shown,
(albeit with differing opinions), by several theorists.
In 1965, B. Tuckman published his idea of how groups assemble by using his Forming, Storming,
Norming and Performing model . You could say that his theory is a helpful explanation of team
development, but they may differ from one individual to another. The model does explain how the
team develops its maturity, through establishing working relationships. It also connotes the leadership
style changing; from a directing style, to coaching, then participating and delegating before almost
being detached.
Stage one of his model is the Forming stage, where the leader must be prepared to answer many
questions about the team s purpose and objectives. Usual team processes are often ignored and there is
also a high dependence on

Trip to Colorado
My family and I had planned a trip to Denver, Colorado to visit my brother and his girlfriend. It took
months and months to finally have it all planned out, but we finally figured everything out. We left for
the cities on a Wednesday night. We stayed in a sketchy hotel in the cities by the airport and flew out
of Minneapolis around 5:30 a.m. I was so nervous, as it was my very first plane ride. The plane was
quite small. Our plane was delayed due to them having to deice the plane due to all the cold. I
suddenly started to feel sick, all my nerves had gotten to me so I reached for the puke bag and puked
everywhere! I was so embarrassed, my family and people around me were laughing so hard at me
because I had gotten myself so worked up. But once the plane started up I felt much better.
As we arrived in Colorado, we went to go get our rental car and then headed to Pikes Peak as we
waited for Jordan and Monet to get off of work. My family had really struggled to find Pikes Peak, we
plugged it into our google maps and it took us to a campground called Pikes Peak then it took us to a
playground that was called Pikes Peak . We laughed and joked around, since we were getting lost so
easily on our first day there. But finally we found the actual Pikes Peak! We drove all the way to the
top! It was so scary driving to the top, the wind was so strong the higher we got. Mom and I were
freaking out because of how high up we were, it was so scary

as an act of aggression directed toward persons at work or on duty, ranging from offensive or
threatening language to homicide (Wolf, Delao Perhats, 2014, p.305). Workplace violence (WPV) can

Despite the lack of reporting, it is clear that emergency department nurses are frequently victims of
violence perpetrated by patients and visitors (Gates et al., 2012, p. 203). Prosecution to the full extent
of the law is necessary to decrease the perception that violence against nurses is acceptable. Greater
support from public officials and management is necessary to combat this growing problem, with the
institution of specific policies and procedures. Movement toward a nonviolent workplace will result in
higher nurse satisfaction and retention. To effectively establish and address the issue, more research,
support from hospital management, and stronger legislation is necessary.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is currently struggling with a widespread epidemic

Whether through occupational licenses, non compete clauses, or land use restrictions, rent seeking has
been associated with causing higher income inequality and negatively interfering with the operation of
free market economies . An example of the negative effects of of rent seeking can be found in
occupational licenses. While occupational licenses were noted for increasing income by 15% over the
free market value of an occupation, they are also charged with inhibiting entrepreneurship (especially
among low income workers), raising prices, and lowering productivity . In fact, a 2011 study even
indicated that the existence of occupational licenses may be responsible for removing as many 2.85
million jobs from the US economy .
Given that rent seeking has been blamed for income inequality, job loss, and lower economic
productivity, it is no surprise that there have been a variety of academic works on the subject. One
such work is an article by Michael Munger entitled Rent Seek and You Will Find. In the article,
Munger describes his involvement in the bidding process for HUD grants while working in Charlotte.
In this case, the HUD grants represent the rent, as the grants are a capital infusion that the winning city
would receive from the government, rather than income generated from free market actions that drive

  • 2. The Matchmaker Analysis The golden age of the big budget musical may remain lost to the annals of old Hollywood, some may argue that classics will always be better than their reimagined counterparts, but this is hardly the case in all circumstances. The 1969 big screen adaptation of Hello, Dolly! proves that sometimes the original star power of a cast can be overridden decades later. The 2017 Broadway revival of Hello Dolly! supports the idea that while people may become accustomed to hearing a song a certain way, a new interpretation of the materials can lead to blockbuster success. Despite the glitter and grandeur of the on screen film adaptation s costuming and set design, the 2017 iteration of the musical, based on Thornton Wilder s play The Matchmaker, shows that big budgets and sweeping landscapes are not needed; opting to go with garishly bright pastels and impeccable choreography to stir the imaginations and win the hearts of millions of theatergoers. Starring Barbra Streisand and Walter Matthau, the 1969 film certainly attempted to bring the star power but hostility that developed between Walter Matthau and Barbra Streisand (TCM) turned into anything but a love story when presented on the big screen. Both actors shared a mutual dislike that caused a very clear disconnect onset, where Matthau refused to be in the same room as Streisand unless they were filming (TCM). In front of the camera, Mathau comes across as a crass old businessman who cares for no one but himself, while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Literature Review Of Literature On Influenza Review of literature: Acute respiratory infections are a major cause of human disease and are one of the most important causes of child mortality throughout the globe. Though there are considerable variations in infantile mortality, according to World Health Organization, the lower respiratory tract infections are the second most important cause of death among children 5 years of age. (Carolina et al., 2012) Respiratory syncytial virus is most frequently detected in childhood illness. Factors predisposing to severe ARI caused by RSV are well known in industrialized countries but little information exists for developing countries. Infection with human metapneumovirus (HMPV) presents similar clinical symptoms to that of RSV . Despite ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The multiplication of the virus occurs in the respiratory tract and the main site of infection occurs in the ciliated columnar epithelial cell. Crowded areas and cold climate favours the spread of the virus. Highest incidence of influenza infection is seen in young population which may be due to lack of exposure to different strains. Children are mainly affected during epidemics (Rao, 2003). The influenza virus triggers pulmonary inflammation resulting in infiltration of inflammatory cells and an immune response. The primary target and the principal host for the virus are Bronchial epithelial cells. Generally influenza viruses are recognized and destroyed by innate immune mechanisms which includes macrophages, interferon (IFN) a, b and other cytokines, natural killer (NK) cells and complement. If influenza viruses escape from these early defense mechanisms, they are captured and destroyed by adaptive immune mechanisms, where T and B cells and their antigen specific effectors (cytotoxic T lymphocytes, cytokines such as IFNc and antibodies) target the virus. subsequent viral infection is prevented by Antigen specific memory cells (T and B cells) (Capelozzi et al., ... • 4. Ancient Civilizations And The Egyptian Civilization William McNeill, author of A World History, is in accordance with the belief that ancient civilizations who were in constant contact with conflict and war could develop a more advanced system of law, bureaucracy, and market prices. By that logic, Mesopotamia would have been far more advanced than Egypt. For example, Mesopotamia frequented attacks from barbarians because of the lay of the land. They also had trouble controlling war between centers of industry due to the inevitable struggle with the course of the river. On the Egyptian side, the high levels of land surrounding the Nile, outside of where the Egyptian civilization laid its ground, made it very difficult for barbarians to invade. Egypt also adopted the Sumerian influences and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also many limits on women and marriage and divorce procedures. In Mesopotamian society, the wealthy man who owned property, otherwise known as the seignior, was the most well respected individual. The punishments for a seignior committing an act against another seignior, a member of government, or another supreme institution like the state or church, was highly extreme, mainly resulting in equal torture, ultimate death or death via thrown into the river. For example, If a seignior has destroyed the eye of a member of the aristocracy, they shall destroy his eye (32, R). However, if a seignior were to commit a crime against a commoner, slave, or women, the punishment would be vastly less extreme. If he has destroyed the eye of a commoner or broken the bone of a commoner, he shall pay one mina of silver (32, R). A system of law that is not just for every punishment and for everyone, no matter the social class, is not a just system. By instituting harsher punishments and inequality, Mesopotamia was establishing a foundation of failure. On the other hand, Egypt s, The Book of the Dead, isn t necessarily a law code like the Code of Hammurabi, but there is evidence of law within its context. Egypt believed highly in obtaining a life free of wrongdoing in order to enter into the afterlife. After death, an Egyptian, more than likely a wealthy man, stands in front of the hall of Two Justices and renounces sin to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Boom Blast Diamond Club Research Paper Boom Blast Diamond Dawgs Winter Park, Fla. The Altamonte Springs Boom defeated the Winter Park Diamond Dawgs 8 0, in eight innings, Wednesday night at Alfond Stadium. However, the story was Brett Morales (Florida), who tossed 7.2 scoreless innings, with no walks and six strikeouts. Alex Young () drove a two strike pitch through the left side of the infield to break up his perfect game. Coach Kevin Davidson would come out to get Morales and the crowd, mostly Diamond Dawg fans, to give him a standing ovation. Most people in the stadium was disappointed when the pitch before the hit, when a borderline pitch was not called on a strike. Mitch McCarthy would get the final out after one walk and one single, to earn the Boom their league leading fifth shutout. He pitched the most dominant game I have seen in all my years in the ... Morales had to be strong as Adam Polansky matched him, pitch for pitch, through the first five innings. He allowed one unearned run and two hits before Altamonte Springs broke open the game with five runs. His pitching line was not indicative of how well he pitched, and he took a tough loss. The sixth inning was when everything changed, as the Boom sent 10 batters to the plate, and scored five runs, giving them a 7 0 lead. Matt Piatt notched two hits and RBIs in the inning, including his leadoff home run over the right center field wall. It was his first on the season. Brandon Sedell (Nova Southeastern), Hoover and Chris Townsend (Central Arkansas) set the table for the top of the lineup when each singled to load the bases. • 7. The Importance Of Academic Writing The academic writing process has been around for ages, so the attributes that a scholarly piece, such as this one, must possess in order to be efficient are no secret. All academic pieces of writing must have a mix of the following qualities: objectivity, accuracy, and complexity. These attributes must remain intact and must not waiver throughout each step of the writing process. This very process that forces students to set creativity aside is proposed to assist in critical thinking skills, writing skills, and embracing of a higher complexity of vocabulary, among other things, is often given much more credit than is truly due. Although many students will continue to procrastinate their papers, the students that actively participate in the introductory stage of planning are setting themselves up to adopt this efficient time management method in other facets of daily life. Most of the truly genuine planning occurs in this stage. Once students have a keen understanding of what they re being asked to do, they can continue to the planning stage of the writing process. In the planning stage, students do most of their research on their respective topics. It s important that the main objective of the paper remain in the forefront of students research, given that the first few searches that come up may not be relevant to their topics. In this stage, students learn what it means to remain vigilant and not wander from the task at hand. Students will encounter frustration regarding the relevancy of search results; however, this frustration leads to learning how to craft efficient search queries regarding their topic. Students should deconstruct their topic into various key points that must be addressed, then research and gather information distinct to said points. • 9. Morality and Success Essay Is there a contradiction between our demand that our children be honest and moral persons and our demand that they be successful? Present the argument that there is a contradiction, and see if you can answer it. Morality has taken a backseat to success. Today s parents preach the same line of virtues to their children as did their parents and many parents before them; be honest and work hard and good things will come to you. But today s children are pressured to obtain their success, by their parents and society, by often violating that very moral code, skirting the shores and sometimes diving into the troubled waters of unethical behavior. In a survey sent to the class of 2017 freshmen bound for Harvard, in which 80 percent participated, 1 in ten admitted to cheating on tests and 42 percent cheated on homework. In our Military Academies, honor codes are drilled into the heads of every cadet, midshipman and airman. This environment encourages fierce competition to achieve success in complex situations that are designed to eliminate even the best and brightest candidates. These military institutions pride themselves on maintaining strict honor codes that have been the cornerstones of integrity throughout time. But the demand to excel becomes the very tool that encourages the do anything to achieve mentality. Repeated incidents of cheating from 1976 through 2012, at every prestigious military academy, reinforce this contradiction of morality versus success in our society. The paper will illustrate the historical dimension of this biblical method, and its methodologies. It is assumed that the evaluation of the different canonical approaches by the two key scholars: Brevard Childs and James Sanders will explicate the principles of this biblical method, and of course supply insightful concepts for clearer understanding of the canon criticism. Historical Development of the canon: How was the canon formed? The process of the canonisation of the scriptures was not by a formal ruling of any council. Canonical development underwent rigorous and challenging difficulties because of the following influences: Gnosticism, Marcion, Montanism and Persecution, which impacted how the canon was formed. Gnosticism for example, affected early Christianity in the choice of selected writings they held as authoritative. Again, Marcion rejected Old Testament books as authoritative for the Christians. He (Marcion) favoured the New Testament books, which includes the gospel that esteems Christ as the recognised and authoritative books. Yet again, Montanism, an apocalyptic movement of the second half of the second century also impacted the formation of the canon of the New Testament. Furthermore, some essential scripts were lost because of Christian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When a sick, but yet powerful King bellowed out to the audience I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the promise land! ; he was eerily suggesting that his life may possibly be ending soon but the movement continuing. After leading the Children of Israel out of bondage for so long and tirelessly working to get them to the land of Canaan Moses is told by God that he will not be the one to lead them into the land flowing with milk and honey and that he will not enter therein at all. Yet, these are the very companies that create an appalling byproduct: unethical manufacturing. Unethical manufacturing, in other words the immoral treatment of workers through use of child labor, low wages, and large corporations are intent on reaping the poor labor pool of third world countries. The already depleted resources these countries have is being stripped away by brands. When companies look for labor they seek the cheapest, most efficient means of making their product. Many brands start out with American manufacturers and move production overseas in an effort to lower cost and increase profit. While overseas hiring may subsequently lower production cost, it subjects those countries working class citizens to the high demands of western companies. We are all familiar with the Walmart slogan Everyday low prices ; Walmart among other companies strives to keep prices low to succeed in competitive capitalist markets. It is that competition between companies, in and effort to meet consumer demands, that eventually leads to overseas hiring and in turn unethical manufacturing. The most important and significant challenge in the big data is to preserve privacy information of the customers, employees, and the organizations. It is very sensitive and includes conceptual, technical as well as legal significance. One of the most important symbols in Lord of the Flies is the conch shell. It represents law, order and power. The shell was the only way to gather everybody from their scattered places on the island. When the conch was blown the boys knew that the chief had something important to say. Once everyone was gathered at the meeting, the holder of the shell was the only person allowed to speak. In the novel, Golding compared the conch shell to its opposite; the pig s head. The head contradicted the shell because it characterized chaos and terror. The shell also emphasized that power is fake. A flag is no more meaningful than the conch that Ralph had. It s the meaning behind it and the meaning that people give it that makes it important. Rules are only powerful if everyone agrees on them. Ralph realized this once Jack left and took most of the group with him. If he blew the conch and no one came, the shell would lose all of its power. Ever since the 2016 Presidential candidates started campaigning over a year ago, one thing is becoming very clear: America s two party political system is in disarray. Party systems in the United States are inherently unstable. Because it is a two party system, the party that wins is the party that builds the biggest coalition. • 23. Literary Devices In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier Eugenia Collier, the author of the short story Marigolds makes great use of literary devices such as imagery, diction, flashback, and juxtaposition in a way that creates a voice for the narrator that conveys both the regret over, and possibly the longing for her childhood. The diction, that is, the vocabulary choice is expertly combined with imagery, or the unique descriptions and sensory details, in order to allow the reader to formulate the experiences and the surroundings of the narrator s childhood in their imaginations. Flashback is used to allow the narrator to not only explain how she viewed the events of her past as a child, but to compare these views with her adult feelings of the same events. Juxtaposition aids in further explaining the connection between the setting and emotions of the main character, creating a better picture of the narrator s life. These elements all combine to construct a narrative that effectively conveys the coming of age theme. The first literary devices that are to be discussed are diction and imagery. Diction is the vocabulary demonstrated by the author, and how the objective and subjective meaning of the words and phrases the author chooses to utilize help construct and expand the narrative. An example of diction used uniquely by the author can be seen in paragraph twelve of Marigolds when this sentence is used: the idleness whose prospect had seemed so beautiful during the busy days of spring now had degenerated to an almost ... It seems like everything in this class so far has boiled down to supply and demand graphs, so I am sure these curves are the most important concept we have learned this far. More specifically, I ve finally learned beyond the basics of supply and demand. Before this course, I could infer when supply and demand change, simply based on logic, but now I can see and understand the more complex side of it. Now I know the difference between a shift in the curves or a movement along the curves well enough so that I can answer questions about situations quickly and accurately. I know that a change in quantity supplied and demanded is a movement along the fixed curve while a change in supply or demand is a shift of the curve. With that, I can access economic situations and see how outside factors affect the curves. Also, now that I know those basics, I can focus on learning the more complex ideas that the curves show, such as elasticity, equilibrium prices, surplus and shortages, price ceilings and floors, and the effects of taxes. I know determinants of elasticity, how to calculate equilibrium prices, what constitutes as a shortage or a surplus, and now I m discovering price ceilings, floors, and taxes. Narrative Complexity Of A Murder Victoria Alvarez Josh Jackson/Ganesh Media Studies 10 Section 104 27 September 2016 Narrative Complexity of a Murder Through advancements in technology over the years, a new form of television surrounded by the idea of narrative complexity arose (Mittell 31). In Jason Mittell s book, Complex TV: The Poetics of Contemporary Television Storytelling, he argues that narratively complex programs allows viewers to participate actively by underlining the conventional traditions of storytelling, but also integrating inventive and long term strategies to attract viewers and create a fan base. This idea of narrative complexity stems from the balance between both television s traditional episodic form and serial form. ABC s breakout television show, How to Get Away with Murder, is an example of a program that implements devices such as nonlinear storytelling and seasonal arcs in order to develop a complex narrative that fosters engagement in audiences and comments on contemporary TV viewing. In his book, Complex TV: The Poetics of Contemporary Television Storytelling, Mittell argues that different media has an operational aesthetic that conforms to the conceptualization of a form of television storytelling called narrative complexity . Canadians view the extrinsic rewards in the products and services with suspicion suggesting that it may not worth purchasing. He also observes that the US market is larger and more complex than the Canadian market. US businesses include a brief explanation of them; whereas, Canadian businesses assume customers to know who they are. In the U.S. presidential campaign, Bill Clinton put the date and hand written sign to reduce the distance with the general people by making it more personal. They want to believe that politicians are more in touch with the general people by greeting Dear Friend in their letter as a polite greeting from an equal. In Canada, Dear

  • 31. The Current Rate Of Adoption CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY An oft heard phrase in education has become both a directive and a duty for educators: We must meet students where they are. This phrase refers to an obligation to meet students needs by matching instructional methods to their levels and preferences. In this era of rapid technological innovation and change, many students have embraced the use of Social Networking Sites (SNS) such as Facebook and spend much of their time in its virtual spaces. Despite its popularity with college students, it is unclear if university faculty educators feel that SNSs are appropriate places to go to meet their students needs. This study seeks to explore this question by comparing faculty and students as to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 211). While many SNSs are in the early stages of development, the adoption of the concept has been rapid. The study proposed here focuses specifically on the adoption of SNSs by students and faculty in higher education. Though SNSs have attained remarkable popularity, Facebook has become the most popular, particularly among people of ages 17 to 25 (Melber, 2008). Recent studies indicate that the number of older users is increasing rapidly (Kirkpatrick, 2009), but currently more than 90% of college students have a Facebook account (Haywoode, 2010; Loveland, 2011). Thus, the substantial number of college students using this technology has compelled many educators to wonder if there are potential benefits for the use of Facebook to support education. According to Santovex (2006), colleges and universities can use Facebook to engage students academically and build relationships with faculty (p. 5). As retention has become a focal point for many universities, several studies have suggested methods for universities to manage retention more effectively. John N. Gardner, founder and senior fellow of the National Resource Center for The First Year Experience and Students in Transitions, has visited many campuses, proposing to student affairs professionals that involvement and sense of connectedness ... • 32. Archduke Franz Ferdinand Of Austria World War One From Beginning to End It is the year of 1914 and the archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria is assassinated in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Multiple accounts of threatening orders succeed after this incident leading up to the breakout of World War I in which the lands of Germany, Austria Hungary and the Ottoman Empire (the Central Powers) were pitted against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy and Japan (the Allied Powers). Austria Hungary s expectation was that Serbia would reject the remarkably severe terms of the ultimatum, thereby giving her a pretext for launching a limited war against Serbia. Britain, allied to France by a more loosely worded treaty which placed a moral obligation upon her to defend France, declared war against Germany on 4 August. Japan, honoring a military agreement with Britain, declared war on Germany on 23 August 1914. In short, Italy was committed to defend Germany and Austria Hungary only in the event of a defensive war; arguing that their actions were offensive she declared instead a policy of neutrality. Gavrilo Princip, Ferdinand s assassin and member of the Black Hand secret societyWhat was intended as a strictly limited war a brief war between accuser and accused, Austria Hungary and Serbia, rapidly escalated into something that was beyond the expectations of even the most warlike ministers in Berlin (and certainly Vienna, which quickly became alarmed at spiralling events in late July and sought German reassurances). Bismarck, first Prime Minister of Prussia and then Chancellor of the German Empire (once he had assembled it), set about the construction of Germany through high politics judiciously assisted by war against Austria and France. The resulting war lasted just seven weeks hence its common title The Seven Weeks War and ended with the complete dominance of the supremely efficient Prussian military. Bismarck s creation of a unified Germany was of direct relevance to the outbreak of war some 43 years later, since it resulted in the assembly of the key alliances that later came into play. ... • 33. Indi A Country Of Personal Laws INTRODUCTION India s history is testimony to the fact that it s been a country of personal laws. The reality in India has always been much more complex than other societies, which have been totally secularized. The process of secularization in India, though not negligible has been far more slow and tortuous. And no law however ideal can become acceptable if it alienates people and ignores social realities. A law has to be socially rooted in order to be acceptable. In India, there are different set of laws for different communities pertaining to personal matters like marriage, divorce, property, adoption, inheritance and maintenance. Induced Abortion In The United States The world is full of controversial issues such as abortion, same sex marriage, terrorism, the death penalty, global warming, legalizing marijuana, healthcare, plastic surgery, illiteracy, use of stem cells, and much more. People will continue arguing about these topics. According to studies, it shows that four out of ten American women s pregnancies are terminated by abortion (Induced Abortion in the United States). Sondra Forsyth, a journalist, wrote stories about three teens that got pregnant and their process of making the decision to have an abortion or not. There are two different methods of medical abortion available: mifepristone followed by misoprostol and methotrexate followed by misoprostol. Mifepristone is a pill that is swallowed by the patient. It interferes with a woman s ability to produce a hormone called progesterone, which is needed for the fetus to grow. MTX or methotrexate is a drug or injection that stops embryonic cell growth and stops from growing outside the uterus. Misoprostol is either swallowed by the patient or placed in the vagina by the doctor. The second type of abortion is surgical abortion, also known as vacuum aspiration. Surgical abortion is when a doctor removes a fetus from the uterus. Ectopic pregnancy is an abnormal pregnancy that grows outside the uterus and is often found in the fallopian tube, and it is very dangerous because it can harm a woman or threaten her future fertility (Abortion: Which Method is Right for Me?). In conclusion, abortion should not be legal, even though abortion may take a burden off the woman s shoulders. Abortion should be illegal because it is the killing of an innocent human being. A baby deserves the right to live. Not only does abortion destroy a human life, but it can also severely affect the mother, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Life is sacred and not meant to be broken. It goes against the sixth commandments, and the landmark case of Roe v. Wade. From the early stages of a team forming, to the end when a team complete its goal(s) there are many dis agreements that need to resolved and many responsibilities to be taken up and these are shown, (albeit with differing opinions), by several theorists. In 1965, B. Tuckman published his idea of how groups assemble by using his Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing model . You could say that his theory is a helpful explanation of team development, but they may differ from one individual to another. The model does explain how the team develops its maturity, through establishing working relationships. It also connotes the leadership style changing; from a directing style, to coaching, then participating and delegating before almost being detached. Stage one of his model is the Forming stage, where the leader must be prepared to answer many questions about the team s purpose and objectives. Usual team processes are often ignored and there is also a high dependence on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Descriptive Essay Experience Aby Adams 3rd hour Trip to Colorado My family and I had planned a trip to Denver, Colorado to visit my brother and his girlfriend. It took months and months to finally have it all planned out, but we finally figured everything out. We left for the cities on a Wednesday night. We stayed in a sketchy hotel in the cities by the airport and flew out of Minneapolis around 5:30 a.m. I was so nervous, as it was my very first plane ride. The plane was quite small. Our plane was delayed due to them having to deice the plane due to all the cold. I suddenly started to feel sick, all my nerves had gotten to me so I reached for the puke bag and puked everywhere! I was so embarrassed, my family and people around me were laughing so hard at me because I had gotten myself so worked up. But once the plane started up I felt much better. As we arrived in Colorado, we went to go get our rental car and then headed to Pikes Peak as we waited for Jordan and Monet to get off of work. My family had really struggled to find Pikes Peak, we plugged it into our google maps and it took us to a campground called Pikes Peak then it took us to a playground that was called Pikes Peak . We laughed and joked around, since we were getting lost so easily on our first day there. But finally we found the actual Pikes Peak! We drove all the way to the top! It was so scary driving to the top, the wind was so strong the higher we got. Mom and I were freaking out because of how high up we were, it was so scary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite the lack of reporting, it is clear that emergency department nurses are frequently victims of violence perpetrated by patients and visitors (Gates et al., 2012, p. 203). Prosecution to the full extent of the law is necessary to decrease the perception that violence against nurses is acceptable. Greater support from public officials and management is necessary to combat this growing problem, with the institution of specific policies and procedures. Movement toward a nonviolent workplace will result in higher nurse satisfaction and retention. To effectively establish and address the issue, more research, support from hospital management, and stronger legislation is necessary. References Violence in the Emergency Care Setting. • 39. The National Basketball Association ( Nba ) The National Basketball Association (NBA) is currently struggling with a widespread epidemic known as tanking. Tanking, for the sake of this paper, is a, team s intent to do less than everything it can to win. Teams are motivated to tank because of a system known as the NBA Draft lottery, which assigns the worst NBA teams with the best odds of winning one of the three top picks in the NBA Draft (where teams are able to select from a talent pool of amateur or previously unassociated athletes). This allocation (of higher odds in the NBA Draft lottery) represents a rent, or a, return to investment, or effort, that exceeds the opportunity cost rate of return. In this context, it is understood to mean that teams are competing for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether through occupational licenses, non compete clauses, or land use restrictions, rent seeking has been associated with causing higher income inequality and negatively interfering with the operation of free market economies . An example of the negative effects of of rent seeking can be found in occupational licenses. While occupational licenses were noted for increasing income by 15% over the free market value of an occupation, they are also charged with inhibiting entrepreneurship (especially among low income workers), raising prices, and lowering productivity . In fact, a 2011 study even indicated that the existence of occupational licenses may be responsible for removing as many 2.85 million jobs from the US economy . Given that rent seeking has been blamed for income inequality, job loss, and lower economic productivity, it is no surprise that there have been a variety of academic works on the subject. One such work is an article by Michael Munger entitled Rent Seek and You Will Find. In the article, Munger describes his involvement in the bidding process for HUD grants while working in Charlotte. In this case, the HUD grants represent the rent, as the grants are a capital infusion that the winning city would receive from the government, rather than income generated from free market actions that drive more business or sustainable tax income to the city.
