Kennedy Middle School Garden Case Study
The Kennedy Middle School fifth grade class is growing a school garden. The students are very
excited to grow a garden, but animals have been eating the goods, so a fence needs to be put in.
The total cost to fence in the garden will be $159. The class calculated this by finding the
perimeter (in feet) and multiplying it by the cost per foot of fence, $1.50. The Pythagorean
Theorem a2 +b2=c2 helped find the hypotenuses of the two right triangles that the garden can be
broken into, which helped the find the perimeter. The class first wrote the Pythagorean Theorem,
which is a2 +b2=c2, to find the hypotenuses of the triangles. The legs of the triangles were
represented by a and b and the hypotenuse was represented by c. After writing the equation,

The Benefits Of The Humane Society
The Humane Society began in America in 1954 with the goal of ending animal cruelty. The
multiple founders were trying to save many animals and get society to end abuse to animals. A
question often appearing what will be done with these animals in the shelter. Research has been
done proving the help of pets in therapyhomes or a support for the mentally ill. Humane Societys
play many roles in the community as it not only holds the animals that have no homes, it offers a
place for community members to give back and volunteer. Giving your time to an organization
like this has proved to be beneficial as people see how good they really have it, and it brings out the
go good, feel good in an everyday person.
Humane Society popularity has been growing rapidly in the past decade, but the nation as a whole
does not know enough. The benefit that the humane society plays in society is large, as they keep
animals off the streets and alive, but also gives community members an opportunity to volunteer.
These animals reported usually are friendly and can help in society as therapy dogs or just an
everyday pet. The benefits of the Humane Society are abundant and the founder had a great cause.
The Humane Society of the United States has been around since 1954 and has made a big impact on
the United States in fighting animal cruelty. The founders of the humane society founded the
program on the foundation of animal protection. Their beliefs from the beginning were to seeking

The Battle Of Nazi Dictator Adolf Hitler Essay
On February 27 of 2014, masked Russian troops without insignia infiltrated in south Ukraine and
captured strategic sites across Crimea, a rugged peninsula that strategically juts in the Black Sea.
Within a few days Crimea was under Russian control and by July 2015 Crimea was formally
integrated into Russia. The whole episode drew international consternation against Russia, which
resulted in successive rounds of economic sanctions. A few days after the annexation, Ms. Clinton
likened the move to the actions of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler(Rucker, 2014), a sentiment that was
quickly adopted by the media; for example, on March 2, 2014 Bloomberg published an article
entitled, In Ukraine, Echoes of the Anschluss (Bershidsky, 2014) and a few days later, on March
7, 2014, BBC published an article entitled, Crimea seen as Hitler style land grab (Kralova, 2014).
This is a very grave accusation and, given that the USA and Russia collectively hold 90% of all
nuclear weapons, prudence is in order.
Therefore, in this essay I purpose to assess the validity of the claim by using the Ladder of
Inference, a reasoning method likened to a ladder as it is a step by step process that helps us
draw better conclusions from true facts and reality. (Mind Tools). We can use this method in any of
three ways; reflection (becoming aware of our own thinking), advocacy (making our thinking
visible to others), and inquiry (inquiry into other s thinking). (Ross, n.d.) For this essay, I ll depend

Dietary Supplement Essay
Walking through a strip mall, the allure of a GNC or a Vitamin Shoppe can be hard to resist. Enter
through the front doors and get lost in wall to wall shelves of products addressing health concerns
so obscure that even the most neurotic hypochondriac would feel at ease. There are probiotics,
herbal therapies, bodybuilding supplements, smart pills, beverage infusions, vitamins and minerals,
you name it. The products on these shelves represent the fruits of a thirty billion dollar industry that
capitalizes on consumers desire to aspire beyond good healthinto the illusive realm of wellness
however that is defined (Reinberg, 2015). The logic fueling this desire makes sense: given so many
options to choose from, there must be something that will make life even healthier and happier than
it already is. This logic is both true and false at the same time. While there are a range of dietary
supplements catering to a range of health needs, it is important to understand the facts behind them
and how to distinguish effective products from useless ones. By considering science, avoiding
marketing gimmicks, and moderating consumption, consumers can use dietary supplements in
ways that could have life changing health benefits. Regulating your own consumption of dietary
supplements based on independent research is extremely important, because unlike food and drugs,
the government will not shoulder this responsibility for you. This policy can be traced back to
legislation from just before

Impact Of John Stuart Mill On Income Inequality
ECON1401 Written Assignment 1 John Stuart Mill and Income Inequality
Many great economic thinkers throughout history has offered various differing yet interrelated
views and ideas that may prove useful to the analysis of current issues in modern economics. A
persistent issue in the modern economy is income inequality whereby the distribution of income
among the population is unequal. This means that the gap between the rich and the poor increases
over time if the issue is not appropriately addressed. In exploring the issue of income inequality in
Australia, this essay aims to analyse the issue from the perspective of a selected economic thinker
namely John Stuart Mill by: (1) providing a summary of Mill s key ideas and theories, including the
different forces that may have shaped his thinking; (2) applying Mill s conceptual framework to the
income inequality problem; and (3) offer solutions he might have suggested to address this problem,
including policies that may be adopted and institutions that may be constructed in the Australian
context.
In order to consider the problem of income inequality from Mill s perspective, it is of imperative
importance to first grasp an understanding of what factors contributed to the development of his key
ideas. Known as one of the most influential figures in classical economics, Mill is more commonly
described as a philosopher and socialist than an economist due to his obstinate strive for progressive
social reform throughout his

Edward Jenner and the First Vaccine
Edward Jenner was born on May 17, 1749 Berkeley, Gloucestershire England. By the time Edward
was the age of eight years old he already showed an interest in bird and nature. When Edward was
thirteen years old he began an apprenticeship with surgeon Daniel Ludlow. He continued to study
Daniel Ludlow until the age of twenty one when he went to London to study under surgeon John
Hunter at St. George s hospital. After finishing his studies he returned to Berkley and ran his own
medical practice. In this era, surgeons were taught through apprenticing and physicians were
educated through universities. Edward Jennerreturned to school and in 1792 earned a medical
degree from the University of St. Andrews. In the 18th century Europe was plagued by a disease
called Small Pox. Small pox is caused by the virus variola; it enters through the lungs into the
blood system, infecting the organs. The virus then spreads to the skin where it multiplies causing
a rash, fever, headache, backache and vomiting. The rash begins small and grows bigger and
raised from the skin. Severe cases cause death from blood poisoning, other infections or internal
bleeding. There is no effective treatment once infected. If you were a survivor you were left with
terrible scars and sometimes blindness. Surviving small pox also made you immune so many
people were inoculated during this time. Edward Jenner was inoculated as a young boy then locked
in a barn with other inoculated children; he

The Importance Of Listening As A Servant Leader
Discussion Following this further, we will discuss the remarks of various authors about the
importance of listening as a servant leader, as well as how it is effected by emotional intelligence.
It is also important that we compare and contrast the various viewpoints on this subject, before we
answer the research questions based on this literature.
Listening
First, we will review the literature from various authors on why listening is important as a servant
leader. As mentioned earlier, Spears (2002), illustrated how listening was a critical aspect of
servant leadership, and the first in his list of ten elements which were vital in regard to the
development of servant leaders (loc. 119). This identification as a crucial element of servant
leadership, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Emotional intelligence is a term that Daniel Goleman coined to describe a bundle of
psychological attributes that many strong and effective leaders exhibit (Hill, Jones, Schilling,
2014, p. 32). As described by Hill et al. (2014), emotional intelligence incorporates self
awareness, self regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills (p. 32). In contrast, Covey
(2002) lists only empathy and awareness as one of his ten characteristics of servant leaders.
Daniel Goleman also goes on to mention that leaders who have these traits are more successful
than those who do not. In Goleman s view, people respect leaders who, because they are self
aware, recognize their own limitations and, because they are self regulating, consider decisions
carefully (Hill et al., 2014, p. 32). He goes on to describe how motivation helps persuade others
towards a leader s vision. Finally, strong empathy and social skills can help leaders earn the loyalty
of subordinates (Hill et al., 2014, p.

Analysis Of My Healing Food
My healing food
Food is both biological and social fuel. Consuming food not just enables energy, but tells a lot about
human s identity. In the context of migration, cooking becomes a particularly significant process.
All the migrants belong to certain ethnic groups, membership of which they express through food
choices. This concept is broadly discussed in the memoir Me in Place, and the Place in Me by
Parvathi Raman.
Raman tells about her migration from India to the UK. In this regard, she recalls how her mother
learnt to cook in the new country. Even though they made a decision not to prepare English dishes,
some foreign foods entered their diet. She describes the culinary experience, which involved the
search for available ingredients

The Paradoxes Of Abrahamic Religions
In the beginning, God said let there be Abrahamic religions. And it was so. Ancient Israelites carried
many traditions molded by the conditions in which they found themselves. Monotheism was a very
different ideology at this time in world history and lead to cultural clashes between the Israelites
and other regional powers. Their soteriology and religious practices eventually became the
foundations on which modern Christianitystands. However, time causes great change in many
things and Christianity is no exception. With these theological and fundamental changes arose
a number of paradoxes. It is easy to just accept the discourse of a religion, but when one or a
group of people start to truly analyze the principles of a faith, many times conflicts arise in truly
knowing what cannot be know. What is life like after ones death. Metaphysical idea with really
not evidence to support them. It is only with the insights and work of theologians and writers like
Dionysus, Origen, Augustine and Dante that these paradoxes were further analyzed and resolved.
In an ancient world embedded in polytheism, the views of the ancient Israelites was arguably a
radical one for the time. This radicalism in a modern view seems practical and completely normal,
yet during the time of the ancient Jewish people this factor brought with it a great deal of hardship.
The cosmos of the semitic world world was that of heaven above, the earth in the middle, and the
netherworld below (McDannel 1). The

He does not feel anxious in crowded places as long as he is ignored by the people around him.
Those panic attacks also would not occur if he is around familiar people such as close family

control those feelings and continue with whatever task at hand. Most of the time, however, he will
simply try to avoid situations in which he thinks will trigger those panic attacks.
Early last year in 2010, due to his frustration in trying to overcome those panic attacks, he fell
into depression. At the same time, he said that he was also having problem at work with one of
his colleagues who seemed to be jealous of him and tried to damage his reputation. She would
often try to monitor his whereabouts and make it known to his superior whenever he was absent
from his office. To add to the stress at work, his wife was also constantly nagging him at home.
All these factors caused a lot of stress for him and contributed to his depression. He began to feel
like life was not worth the struggle anymore. He had tried reading all sorts of self help books to
motivate himself and provide relief but none really helped. He began to feel worthless and

Factors Affecting The Demand For Toothbrushes
To assess the factors affecting the demand for toothbrushes in India, a situation analysis has been
performed using the 5Cs framework:
Context: In 2009, India was the world s largest democracy; with a population of 1.16billion
growing at 1.4% per annum, the country suffered from a huge disparity in income with the
majority of Indian population (78%) living in rural areas, and as many as 80% living under $2 per
day. The 78% who lived in rural areas accounted for c. 64% of total expenditures in India. Around
50% of the Indian population did not have sufficient awareness of dental healthcare, and did not
associate dental problems with improper care but rather to eating habits or genetics; most of these
Indians were using natural remedies as chewing twigs from the Neem tree. Among the remaining
population who used modern dental healthcare or a toothbrush, 77% brushed their teeth less than
twice a day (recommended usage), and out of the 747.1million brushes sold every year, only 8.6%
replaced their brush every 3 months. Cottle Taylor (CT) enjoyed a large market share in India and
focused on toothbrushes. Given the peculiarities of the market, CT decided to focus on
toothbrushes where it enjoys larger gross margins by virtue of its existing manufacturing
infrastructure that has been built over the years.
Customers: Given the composition of the Indian population described earlier, the customers are
typically price sensitive with not much disposable income. The majority of

Summary Of Clare Boothe Luce s Speech
As society advances and the opinions of the general public change several press outlets work to
stay up to date with the changing times. However, in an attempt to stay modernized journalists
often times sacrifice their integrity to stay favorable in the public eye. These degrading actions,
often times sacrifice the true news for more appealing news. Clare Boothe Luce, American
journalist and politician, gives a controversial speech to the Women s National Press Club
condemning her female audience. Moreover, as a female addressing an audience of women she is
able to give her true opinion and is able to honestly critique her colleagues. She persuades her
audience by preparing them for the criticism by reiterating that she is the guest, by praising
journalism, and by logically providing reasoning that the journalistic view must change for the good
of the general public.
Luce begins her speech by expressing her happiness and excitement for being invited to be the
guest of honor at the Women s National Press Club. Expressing her happiness, she says she is
flattered and challenged by the opportunity to give her speech. However, as she continues her
introduction by repeating her introductory statement she alters it by saying that she is less happy
and more challenged than one might know. The slight change in her statement prepares her
audience for something that they may view as unpleasant, so that they do not feel shocked about
what they are about to hear. Not only is Clare Luce able to subtly communicate with her audience
but she is also able to provide signs that can help them better understand her purpose. Additionally,
in order to remind the audience that they asked for her opinion, Luce states that she did not offer to
give the speech rather she says you asked for it, reminding the audience that her opinion and
critique is exactly what they requested. The repetition of the nature of her speech allows Luce to
confirm that her audience is clear about her intentions with the speech that she is about to give.
As Luce continues her speech she softens her audience for the criticism by praising their careers
and their writings. Yet, she continues to provide warnings by retelling them that they are an

Engineering is frustrating. It consumes so much of my energy that I cannot carve a smile on
my face anymore. I am so tired. I feel like it is 10000000000000000 miles to walk from Sweeney to
the East Hall. However, whenever I first step into the class, the first thing I will look for is what
hat is going to be on Mr. Driscoll s head. There are all cute and smart hats! I laugh every single time
I look at his funny hats. Oh, I have a tagline for this class! A hat a day, keeps the stress away. Ah, I
am going to miss his hats, I swear.
Time flies so fast. Spring is about coming to the end. I am definitely not the same person today as
I was yesterday. Everything has changed; hopefully in a good way. Yes, I make mistakes, I reflect,
and I become wiser at the end. In this essay, I am going to write some reflections that drive me to
become a better writer.
During the process of drafting a paper, one of the things I have in mind is my audience. In order to
write a good paper, it is crucial to consider the audience so you can identify how you are going to
write it. For example, if you are going to write letter to your brother, it will sound weird if you use
formal language. Same goes if you are writing to the Obama; it will definitely sound weird if you
greet him like, how is it going, bro? It is way too informal and you cannot do this if you are
writing to your leader. What I am trying to say here is it is your audience that will determine the
style of your writing.

The Environment Is A System Of Living Things
An environment is a system of living things. The Earth is our environment. The capacity of our
environment to offer space, to reap nutrition and to fund energy are all limited. Food, water and
other basic assets are strained by the escalating requests of our persistently developing population.
We rely on these limited resources for our survival, yet we are quickly extending our populationas
though they were infinite. This reality is at the focal point of our environmental issues. Despite the
fact that the number of inhabitants on earth has been escalating in a continuous manner since 1400,
the most emotional increment has taken place in more recent decades. Overpopulationis a standout
amongst the most concerning troubles in present times. It is an undesirable condition where the
number of existing human population exceeds the carrying capacity of Earth. (1) There is a natural
point of confinement to the population size that can be reasonably maintained by an environment.
Overpopulation is the undesirable condition where the amount of the existing human population
exceeds this natural limit and eventually devours our planet with the request for more nutrition
from less land and water supplies. As the total population develops, enhancing expectations for
everyday comforts and improving living standards without destroying the Earth is a global
challenge. Our world populationis growing at about eighty million people a year, which equates to
an average of two hundred and

Why Organisations Need to Change
Why organisations need to change
Change management is relevant as though the research finds that change is taking place at an ever
increasing pace, the evidence suggests that most change initiatives fail. For example, recent CIPD
research suggested that less than 60% of re organisations met their stated objectives which are
usually bottom line improvement. This is consistent with other published research.
The impact of failures to introduce effective change can also be high: loss of market position,
removal of senior management, loss of stakeholder credibility, loss of key employees.
Finally, one organisational response to change is that organisational forms are themselves evolving.
Therefore, the change management response will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Management need to be aware of these different criteria to ensure they respond appropriately.
Suggested reasons for resistance include: loss of control, shock of new, uncertainty, inconvenience,
threat to status, competence fears. It is important to try to diagnose the cause of employee
resistance as this will help determine the focus of effort in trying to reduce/remove the issue.
What can be done to make change management more effective?
From the issues raised in the section above, it can be seen that change is complex and there is not
a single solution. However, a number of key areas of focus emerge.
Effective leadership is a key enabler as it provides the vision and the rationale for change.
Different styles of leadership have been identified, for example coercive, directive, consultative
and collaborative. These different styles may each be appropriate depending on the type and scale
of change being undertaken. For example, when there is a large scale organisation wide change a
directive style has been identified as most effective.
Appropriate and timely training is frequently identified as key to effective change. Examples of
training requirements might include:
* Project and programme management skills to ensure change initiatives are completed both on
time and to budget.

Factors Of Scooterino
The main political factor that would influence the success of Scooterino in a particular economy is
state regulations concerning ridesharing business. Specifically, the more regulations there are in a
given country targeted at a ridesharing business, the harder it will be to develop and sustain
Scooterino in that economy.
What is interesting in this analysis is that the four cities under consideration Berlin, London, Madrid
and Paris are, naturally, all parts of the EU political and legal framework. It is worth noting that
one of the biggest names in a ridesharing business Uber has faced considerably more obstacles on
its rise to prominence in Europe, compared to the United States, where it originated. As it appears,
in Europe, traditional modes of transportation business prove to be a bigger resistance towards ride
sharing business. . And in fact, currently there are undergoing discussions at the European
Commission on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the major factors deciding whether a ridesharing business will sustain in the long run is the
corruption level in a particular economy. Specifically, the higher the corruption level is, the easier
it would be for competing businesses to using various bribing schemes to enforce a ban on your
business. In the case of a ridesharing platform, the ban might be initiated in the interest of taxi
industry, and such cases are outlined further in the section dedicated to analysis of legal factors.
While there is no evidence to suggest that bans on ridesharing sector are caused solely by corrupt
state officials, in certain cases it is virtually to impossible to identify other reasons for restrictive
legislative acts. The more corrupt the particular state is, the easier it is for a particular lobbying
company to enforce legislative acts that would limit their competitors

Answer The threat of DJC to American Connector Company is very high. Following are the reasons:
Г If DJC sets up manufacturing base in USA, as per the exhibit 7 and exhibit 8 the raw material
cost for DJC in USA will drastically reduce. Current Raw material product and packaging cost is

Q3: What accounts for these differences? How much of the difference is inherent in the way each

Answer
a) There are many reasons for these differences:
Г Fixed Asset utilisation: Due to continuous factory runtime, the overall utilisation of fixed asset
increases for DJC Kawasaki in comparison ACC Sunnyvale s plant.
Г Raw material cost: In Japan raw material cost is twice as much high as in America.
Г Production Process: Due to batch production system in ACC, there were changes required in
production line every time product was changed which lead to less efficiency and lower expertise in
churning out a product. This issue was not there with DJC continuous production process with
lesser number of product variations.
Г Quality issues: The number of defective finished goods is very less for DJC when compared to

My Experience At The Age Of Five
At the age of five, I experienced my first dentistry. As they d work on my teeth I would ask
question like What is that? , What does it do? This experience did not only trigger my career
goal but made me who I am. After my first experience I loved looking at people smile and going to
the dentist every month. I was bullied at the age of six for this very reason. As I grew older I
developed three missions in life. One, to finish school and earn my high schooldegree, two to start
college, and three to earn my degree and start working as a dentist. Soon these missions became
goals. After I finished high school I set new missions: one to start college, two to earn my
Bachelor s degree and my doctoral degree and three to get a good score on my Dental Acceptance
test.
After I finished high school, I started to search for community college with dental classes. That
s when I heard of Tarrant County College (TCC) .I immediately ran to the school and applied as
soon as possible. After a month or so I got a letter allowing me to start college, as I read the
words hope raised up in my body. I asked my older sister Iftah, to help me get strategies for
college because I was new to the idea. During August, me and my sister Iftah created a strategy
list. For me to be a dentist I first need to complete a bachelor s degree. Getting a bachelor s
required hard work and commitment. Saying hard work did not mean just slacking off it meant I
had to have good grades and a perfect attendance.

Of those meaningful roles came self expression and individualism. In their attempt to reform the

Medical Marijuana: A Topic Leaving People Up in Smoke Renee Grant ENC 1101 1002
Professor Bahle March 30, 2013 Medical Marijuana: A Topic Leaving People Up in Smoke
Medical marijuana has been an ongoing fight between the federal government, physicians and
patients. Contrary to many beliefs, marijuana, whether it is used for medical reasons or
recreational is non lethal. It has been proven to be useful in many medical conditions. There has
been no evidence of an individual overdosing on marijuana, but there have been a tremendous
number of deaths related to prescription drugs, and over the counter medications. The legalizing of
medical marijuana will change the lives of so many... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What better way to elevate their pain by allowing them to use a plant that has been around for
thousands of years. It is cheaper than prescription medications, and one would not have to worry
about all the possible side effects that prescription medications contribute to, as in effects on the
heart, kidneys, and liver. Pharmacies will be hit the hardest when medical marijuana is
legalized. It is cheaper for patients to grow their own medication. Some scientists are still
working on how they can make a synthetic form of THC that can be put into capsule form. Is a
synthetic form safe? This is still unclear. Physicians who are able to prescribe medical marijuana
need to keep a watchful eye out for those that claim to have a disease just so that they can get
their marijuana legally. Tax payers are spending billions of dollars each year to fight the war on
marijuana. The effort has done nothing, where are the billions of dollars going? Physicians that
prescribe medical marijuana to their patients are not promoting smoking by any means; they are
just helping relive pain of their suffering patients. While there will be a continuing battle against
medical marijuana for years to come there have been 16 states, including Washington D.C that
have enacted laws to legalize medical marijuana: California 1996, Alaska 1998, Oregon 1998,
Washington 1998, Maine 1999, Colorado 2000, Hawaii 2000, Nevada 2000, Montana 2004,

How Nelson Mandela used Rugby to unify South Africa Essay
After spending twenty seven years in prison, Nelson Mandela was released from prison on
February 11, 1990. In 1991, Nelson Mandela was chosen to become president of the African
National Congress. In 1993, Mandela and South African President F.W. de Klerk announced an
agreement that the African National Congress and the National Party form a transitional
government, effectively ending apartheid and opening the political process to all South Africans
(Williamson). Mandela was elected President of South Africain 1994, and de Klerk became his first
deputy. However, even with apartheid abolished, South Africa was still a divided country. Mandela
s legal adviser, Nicholas Haysom, said, South Africa in 1994 was a country that was split,... Show

A year later, Mandela proposed that if the whites backed democratic elections, the next rugby
cup would be held in South Africa. The democratic elections occurred, Mandela won the
presidency, and the 1995 World Rugby Cup was awarded to South Africa. The Springboks were
seen as the whites team. The blacks hated and rooted against the Springboks, who had fourteen
white players and just one black player (30 for 30). They would cheer when the opponents
would beat or hurt the Springboks, because in their eyes they saw the people oppressing them
being beat. However, Nelson Mandela decided to embrace the Springbok team and use them as
an opportunity to bring the nation together. Mandela put on the Springbok hat at a rally in
Soweto, endorsed the Springboks, and asked the black South Africans to support them too (Lodge
212). The blacks met the speech with boos, skepticism, and anger. Black South Africans hated
rugby, and the Springbok logo was one directly associated with apartheid oppression (Carlin 192).
Nelson Mandela was a very calculated political leader, and he understood that the black South
Africans would be reluctant of accepting the Springboks. However, he also understood the impact
of sports and that an entire nation rooting for their national team would bring the country together.
South Africa was a very fragile nation at the time, and if things at the World Cup went wrong, it
could have backfired. Mandela s plan relied on both the whites and blacks

The Class Of African American History
Color You walk into the classroom and it s the most awkward thing ever. You regret the day you
signed up for this class...African American history. But why? Why did everyone inelegantly stare?
Why does your skin color make matters this problematic? It s essential that a class like African
American history becomes more diverse. Most assume that this class is aiming for an African
Americanaudience. This assumption is completely misleading, but most fall the underdog to. The
homogeneity society amongst the students is bare and should be altered.
I m currently enrolled in African American history. I ve noticed there aren t any people outside
of the African American race in the class. The teacher has noticed out of all 9 years he s been
teaching the class, he s had maybe 8 people that weren t African American. I feel there is no
imagined community within this learning space. In Pratt s essay she tells how Benedict
Anderson refers to an imagined community. Anderson s idea of an imagined community is
communities exist as imagined entities in which people will never know most of their fellow
members, meet them or even hear of them, yet in the minds of each other lives the image of
their communication (327). All classes are expected to be diverse and full of divergence. But
yet, we re all in some way in which most think is by race, already in deep relation. The absence of
nonconformity leaves a toll on the class, whereas we are interested in how people from different
races feel

Mary Todd Lincoln Summary
A summary of his heartaches and defeats comprise an interesting list: 1) Prior to marrying Mary
Todd, Lincoln s original love was Ann Rutledge who passed away at the age of 22. Lincoln s
mother had died when he was just nine years old and later his sister Sara died in childbirth. 2) Of
his and Mary Todd Lincoln s four sons, two died as children during Lincoln s lifetime, each of
those deaths causing him enormous agony. 3) Until Lincoln was 21 years of age, his father sent
him to labor for others, and then kept the wages his son earned. As an illiterate man the father saw
no importance in Lincoln s education. 4) Lincoln suffered from inferiority from his lack of formal
education which ended with a partial year of grade school. He was often confronted by men from
aristocratic families; those men having the best formal education money could buy, while he was
self taught. 5) Lincoln... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lincoln wrote one of the most famous speeches in history, The Gettysburg Address, as he poured
his heart out, trying to make sense of it all. 9) Lincoln was haunted by a New Orleans slave

Thesis Statement Of King Leopold s Ghost
Thesis Critique of King Leopold s Ghost Adam Hochschild s King Leopold s Ghost is a story
recalling the effects of European imperialism in Africa. Hochschild writes about the Belgian King
Leopold s exploitation over the Congo. Leopold s rule over an African territory becomes a
devastatingly lucrative monopoly over rubber. Leopold s brutal tactics and use of forced labor
ultimately leads to millions of deaths of the Congolese natives. Hochschild s argument successfully
claims that European imperialism in Africa (specifically that of King Leopold) led to devastating
effects on the natives and their land. The nineteen chapter, two part book starts off with a brief
introduction. This introduction sets up the first part of the book, where the... Show more content on

By providing an in depth analysis of what really occurred with Leopold and his exploitative
proprietorship of the Congo Free State, Hochschild cogently convinces readers that beneath all of
Europe s coaxing and flattery about their imperialism, there is an underlying nature of terror and an
almost inescapable and pervasive essence of death and slavery. Hochschild perfectly depicts the
drama arising from the deceitful manipulations, courageous resistances, and uncut greed into an
enthralling piece of literature. Not only does Hochschild use the perspectives of Europeans, but he
tells the untold truths of the natives in their abysmal states, having to face inevitable horrors and
atrocities. The reader experiences the magnitude of effects that resulted in this imperialism, which
may still last in modern day Africa. Hochschild s persuasion perfectly captures what it is that he
wants the readers to take in the most: that Leopold s imperialism of the Congo did not only affect
Europe and himself. Separating from the common curriculum of history class, Hochschild doesn t
want to tell the readers that imperialism led to European nations gaining more markets, population,
and raw materials: he wants the reader to understand that this all came at a cost. This imperialism
led to the deaths of ten million natives in the Congo alone. This imperialism led to brutal torture of

Glanbia Porter s 5 Forces
Porter s five forces
Porter s 5 Forces analysis is a commonly used business theory that identifies the 5 competitive
forces of an industry. By identifying and analysing these forces you can determine an industries
weaknesses and strengths. Porter recognised the 5 forces in most business markets to be internal
rivalry, entry, substitutes and compliments, supplier power and buyer power.
Internal rivalry: Porter believes that the power and size of market rivals goes a long way to show
the strength a business. If a firm has a much larger market share then any of its market rivals it may
not incur as much competition on price or non price dimensions of the product/service in question
and therefore will be a much more powerful business compared ... Show more content on

Substitutes are plentiful available to take the place of a Glanbia product. A consumer upon entrance
into most health shops would be greeted with tubs upon tubs of different whey proteins. The long
list of substitutes erodes the demand for Glanbia products such as optimum nutrition. Brands such
as Maxinuitrition, Muscle tech and cellucor are all household names when it comes to the
performance supplement market. To combat this Glanbia have marketed there number one product
Optimum Nutrition as a health supplement for all types of people and kept the BSN range more
focused on the more advanced gym goers and body builders. The separation of the two brands has
given Glanbia more power at either side of the market.
Compliments are mostly seen within the optimum nutrition line. The ON products complement one
another with a vast range of products that all serve a different particular function. For example a
new gym goer may want to take whey protein after a workout but may also be encouraged to buy
the recovery formula and the vitamins and oil supplements. The biggest compliment for the health
performance nutrition industry is the change in attitudes worldwide, people are becoming more
health conscious across the globe leading to higher sales in products such as whey

A Character Analysis of Angelo in Measure for Measure
A Character Analysis of Angelo: Outer Angel and Inner Devil
There is a wide array of deceptiveness within the play Measure for Measure. While some of the
reasons for deception are good, other reasons are filled with evil and only for personal gain.
Angelo is a perfect example of one of the characters within this play who uses his deceptive
nature for evil and only for the gratification of himself. He is given a very superior and
authoritative role by Vincentio, the Duke, and extends his powers to the most extreme of
measures. Unlike the Duke, Angelo is stern and goes to the furthest extent to have his voice be

knowledge of everything that has occurred in his apparent absence. The truth then comes to light

that a rule is not just if he makes the same mistakes that he condemns others for. Because Isabella

The Role of Women in Homer’s Iliad Essay
The Role of Women in Homer s Iliad
Homer s Iliad is undoubtedly focused on its male characters: Achilles, primarily, but also Hector
and Agamemnon. Nevertheless, it seems that the most crucial characters in the epic are female.
Homer uses the characters of Thetis, Andromache, and Helen as a basis for comparison to the male
characters. Homer wants his audience to see and understand the folly of his male characters in
choosing war over peace, aggression over kindness, and honor over family. While the behavior of
these characters clearly speaks for itself, the contrasting attitudes and behaviors of the female
characters proffer an alternative; in comparison, the reader can hardly fail to concur with Homer s
message that war, aggression, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thetis is always motivated by her love and pity for her son, two emotions he seems unable to
feel himself. As a loving mother, she is concerned for her son and his future and so ensures that
he is aware of his options. Out of respect for him, she allows Achilles to make his own decision
and goes as far as to support him fully, although the attentive reader can sense that doing so is
immensely painful for her. Therefore, although it superficially seems that Thetis supports war and
aggression, her true motives are far more admirable.
Unlike Thetis, Andromache s values are clear. On the rampart in book six, she makes an
impassioned plea to Hector for reason and peace. Pity me, please! she says, Take your stand on
the rampart here, before you orphan your son and make your wife a widow. (ll. 230 231) When
her fears are realized and Hector is struck down by Achilles, she laments, Hector, what help are
you to [Astyanax], now you are dead? (l. 571) This single statement lays bare the true folly of
pride: How can one justify the preservation of honor at the cost of the destruction of all that one
fought for in the first place?
Finally, there is great irony in the lamentations of both Helen and Briseis for Hector and Patroclus
respectively. Helen proclaims her respect for Hector s kindness: Hector, you d win them to my
side . . . you with your gentle temper, all your gentle

In September 1993, Huizenga proposed a $4.7 billion merger with media giant Viacom Inc. The
merger did not prove to be fruitful. By April 1994, Blockbuster s and Viacom s stock had

for financial losses and lack of clearly defined leadership, Huizenga eventually stepped down as
CEO in 1994. Over the next few years Steven Berrard, took over as President and took the
company on a terrible trajectory focusing on major expansion. He only lasted for 2 years in the
organization and Bill Fields in March 1996. Fields wanted to transform the image of the

Promise Of My Promise
In 2017, I was finally able to visit my hometown in Mexico. The place that saw my birth. Mexico
is the place that holds my beliefs, morals and heart. I was excited to visit after being gone for
more than 27 years. I was excited about seeing family I had never met. The idea of finally being
able to see my people face to face, left me sleepless at night. The one thing that brought mixed
emotions to me was finally being able to keep a promise. I promise that I was not sure I would be
able to fulfill. See, throughout the years I had continuously made a promise to my mama Maria.
For reasons, out of my control it would take years for this promise to be completed.
Mama Maria, is a fragile woman. She suffers from Alzheimer s disease. She has had this terrible
disease for many years. This woman who is now 101 years old, is my maternal great
grandmother. When you see her, you see a fragile old pale skinned blue eyed woman, who
sometimes struggles to keep her eyes open. Due to her age and health, she is now wheelchair
bound. She relies on others to feed, change, dress or simply move her around. Maria is stronger
than she looks and sometimes feels. See her frail wrinkly skin is just the proof of the many strong
beautiful years she has lived.
She was born in Arandas, Jalisco located in Mexico. She was 1 of many children. She did not attend

during his commencement speech to the graduating class of 2014 at the Maharishi University of

permeated with his traditional humor, Carrey also inspires his audienceto think about how they

Although he knew that his family could not afford a bike, he followed the advice of his
substitute teacher and prayed for one , and continued life normally, without particularly looking
for how this would be accomplished. Carrey then shares his later astonishment, saying, two
weeks later, I got home from school to find a brand new mustang bike with a banana seat and
easy rider handlebars because a friend had entered Carrey s name in a raffle without his
knowledge. With this experience, Carrey gives an example of his own outlook on life letting
the universe know what you want and working towards goals while letting go of how it might
come to pass has worked in his own life. Through sharing this positive experience, Carrey entices
his audience to refuse choosing fear when things seem impossible, and instead choose hope and
love. Carrey uses analogy as a method of expressing certain ideas to his audience. First, Carrey
conveys the unpredictability of life by using an analogy of a cat that will rub up against your leg
and purr until you pick her up and start pettin her, and out of nowhere she ll swat you in the face .
For Carrey s audience of graduating college students, who are just about to enter the work force and
other aspects of life, this analogy helps students understand that life will be unpredictable; both
pleasant and painful. Since many have had

Philippine American War Essay
Philippine American War In the past centuries, colonialism has been a country s way of gaining
great amounts of wealth and cheap labor. The idea of colonialism has been heavily controversial, in
terms of today s standards. In the United States of America, Americans were also against this idea,
since they also have been under the harsh rule of the British empire. However, after the Spanish
American war ended in 1898 through the Treaty of Paris, the US government decided to own the
colonies that have been ceded by the Spanish. This decision marked the turning point in American
history because it violated their constitution and redefined what it means to be the upholders of
democracy. In one of the acquired colonies, the Philippines expected ultimate independence instead
of a change of colonial power. This allowed conflict to mount between the two countries, which
prompted the Filipinos to stage a revolt against the Americans. Unfortunately, because of the U.S.
government s dedication to establish its sovereignty over the islands, the desire of the Filipinos to
gain their independence, and the economic implications of the islands towards America, the two
countries were unable to form a compromise leading to the Philippine American War. This resulted
to the death of more than 250,000 Filipinos and 4,200 U.S. troops. Ironically, this ugly encounter
between the Americans and the Filipinos brought peace and strong relations after the war that last

Oppressors In America Research Paper
The guilt of nurturing lust for power made Hagar run away from Sara. In this context, I observe,
that the powerless concubine became all powerful she ran away twice from Sara. Her reasons
for doing so might be many, most notable being that Hagar was the biological mother of
Ishmael, and further the tables turned when Sara asked Abraham to send Hagar away there is a
shift in the power roles. Hagar s acts of running away from Sara twice helps me perceive Hagar
taking over the role of an oppressor from her former role of one being oppressed. To explicate
this, as a maid, Hagar was oppressed into forcible sexual relationship with Abram, the same
oppressed concubine can be perceived as the oppressor who torments Sara because she is the

What is the current legislative or regulatory issue, and why is it being debated? On average,
according to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (2014), an estimated $9,695 was
spent per person in America on healthcare. That s over $24,625 in a 2 person household. A
median household income of $53,657 would spend 46% of its income on healthcare. In 2010,
under the Obama Administration, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) otherwise known as Obamacare
was enacted to advocate that healthcare is a right, not a privilege and to make healthcare accessible
to millions of uninsured Americans at affordable price (Rak Coffin, 2013). According to the US
Census Bureau, 49.9 million Americans were uninsured in 2010. America is the highest in cost of

THE CONCEPT OF STRATEGY AND STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
G. Tyge Payne, PhD

Strategy: The unifying theme that gives coherence and direction to the decisions of an organization
Strategic Management: Consisting of the analysis, decisions, and actions an organization
undertakes in order to create and sustain competitive advantages. Or, the Strategic Management
Process is: The full set of commitments, decisions, and actions required for a firm to create value
and earn aboveaverage returns. (Hitt, Hoskinson, Ireland, 2004, p. 4)
Strategic Management basically seeks to answer the question:

John Doe Movie 7
We live in a world that is full of horrible things; however, some are inexcusably unspeakable.
These horrendous unforgivable deeds are called sins. Sins are actions that go against God s
will. Many deeds or actions can be perceived as sins, but there are seven that are exceptionally
imperative. We chose the sinister thriller Seven for our movie analysis project. This movie was
released in 1995, starring Brad Pitt (Detective Mills), Morgan Freeman (Detective Somerset),
Gwyneth Paltrow (Tracy Mills), and Kevin Spacey as the infamous John Doe. Seven was written
by Andrew K. Walker and directed by David Fincher (A E Television Network). Taking place in a
rainy crime stricken city, Seven is about two homicide detectives; Detective Somerset... Show more

Antisocial personality disorder is the most difficult to treat. Psychotherapy is sometimes used
but not always efficient. Psychiatric medication may also be prescribed to help with certain
symptoms but it does not treat the disorder as a whole (Mayo Clinic Staff). The most effective
way to treat this disorder is with inpatient residential care, followed by close long term after
/outpatient care (Nevid, Rathus and Greene). Narcissistic personality disorder is much easier to
treat with a better prognosis. Psychotherapy or talk therapy is the key because it teaches the
patient ways to control their emotion and rectifies self absorbed behaviors. The sufferer also
learns acceptable ways of mingling with others and society (Dryden Edwards). Prognosis for
narcissistic personality disorder is dependent upon the severity and other disorders that they may
have, as well as how long it takes for them to realize their problems are a direct result of their self
tendencies

Abortion Matters of Life and Death Casts Dispersions on...
Abortion
A.Jonathan Glover, in his article Matters of Life and Death casts dispersions on both pro abortion
and anti abortion debates citing them as too knee jerk emotional reactions diminishing the inherent
complexity of the other side (1. Glover, CC2006, p. 0110). Glover comprehensively addresses the
key points of both sides of the abortion debate and evaluates their inherent virtues, especially for
those who hold these opinions, then methodically points out its flaws. Ultimately, Glover comes to
the conclusion that though a fetus is a human at the moment of conception, the right to abort lies
with the mother and her own self determination.
Glover begins his article by claiming that the status of the fetus, historically, has been ... Show more

There are essentially three objections to murder: it takes away the victim s autonomy, it
prevents the victim from years of life it was due, and the effects of others who had some relation
to the victim (6. Glover, CC2006, p. 0110). Casting aside religious teachings because of the
variety of religions, Glover focuses on these three objections. Glover claims that a fetus has no
real autonomy of its own, thus can not be afforded its own rights and that even if the fetus did
have rights, the rights and autonomy of the mother supercede the rights of the fetus (7. Glover,
CC2006, p. 0113). In this way, the second reason also falls by the leeway because years of life due
to the mother if her life was threatened by the pregnancy or the years she has to invest in raising an
unwanted child is usurped by the birth of the fetus. And finally, though not explicitly mentioned, the
only other person that a fetus has any relation or interaction with is the mother, thus if the mother
wants the fetus aborted, the moral implications that arise reside solely with the mother.
It is in this way that Glover returns to his original assertion that to deny women the right to control
what happens in their bodies is wrong, but cautions that a fetus is a human right at conception, so
ending the life of the fetus is equal to ending the life of any human, yet the rights afforded to
women trump all of this and whatever moral pitfalls that a

The Horrific World of Bullying Essay
On January 23, 2014, Michael Morones, an 11 year old from Raleigh, North Carolina, attempted
to take his own life by hanging himself. This attempt failed, and he is now in the hospital with
severe brain, heart and lung injuries. Why did he try to take his own life? Michael is a huge fan
of My Little Pony and is a proud member of the Bronies, or Bro Ponies club. He has been made
fun of and taunted by his classmates for this reason. He was told that it doesn t matter what anyone
else thinks, but that didn t stop it from bothering him and leading him to attempt suicide. This isn t
the only incident that has happened. In grades 6 12, 28 percent of students say they have
experienced bullying; 20 percent of them being in grades 9 12 alone... Show more content on

Punching, kicking, hitting, pushing, and tripping are all characteristics of such bullying.
Cyberbullying has become one of the biggest problems in bullying for the 21st century because
of the new technology that has developed. Cyberbullying is bullying using technology or social
networking sites such as Facebook or Twitter. Cyberbullying often violates the terms of service
established by social media and internet service providers (Report Cyberbullying). Bullying can
happen anywhere at anytime. The most common places where bullying happens is at school, at
work, on a bus, on the playground and the internet. Bullying happens 24/7. It can happen during
school or work, after school or work, traveling to or from school or work, or even in the comfort
of your own home. A lot of times bullies become bullies because their home life isn t the most
ideal. When a child is pushed around or made fun of at home, he or she may adopt that behavior
and exhibit it toward others. In a culture that is fascinated with winning, power and violence,
some experts suggest that it is unrealistic to expect that people will not be influenced to seek
power through violence in their own lives (Why Do People) A lot of children experience bullying
because of the way they look or act. Overweight is one of the most commonly known reasons for
being bullied. Another very common reason is being what the bully would consider ugly or
unattractive. Not having very many friends or being

Essay On Gender Equality In Canada
Canada is generally perceived as a country of freedom and equity in all aspects around the world.
But in fact, gender equality has not yet been reached in our society. According to statistics, Canada
was only ranked 35th on World Economic Forum gender gap list ( Global Gender Gap List Puts
Canada at 35th ). Throughout history, activists have variously prioritized identities rooted in class,
race, sexuality, age, gender and ability, but changes will need to continue in our current society and
in the future. The women s movement was ultimately one of the most significant event in Canadian
history, as it challenged the patriarchal society and set the basis of gender equality, which has
become an important element of Canadian identity today. Life before the movements Before the

Women s movements in present days, mainly focus on wage equality, domestic abuse,
stereotypes, bias and women s right in the political field (The Modern Women s Movement, par.
2). Shockingly, wage gaps have been one of the biggest issues that requires progress to be made.
Based on reports, the average income is $40,000 for men, $35,014 for women in Canada. Also,
women need to take more leadership roles, as the number of female representatives in the political
system has been inadequate ( Global Gender Gap List Puts Canada at 35th ). Lastly, we need to
keep in mind that not Canadian women gained their rights at the same time, Aboriginal women and
women of other race gained their rights much later than European women. One of the things that we
do have to remember, it wasn t all women who got the vote at that time, Dodd said. We waited until
1960 for women in the indigenous community to have access to the vote. (Cuciz, par. 7). It is
important to realize that discrimination towards women still exists today, and actions must be taken
to prevent this from

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Sue Girth s Speech
The name of the speaker I am writing this analysis on is Sue Girth. Sue Girth is a paraeducator at
Manhattan high school in Manhattan, Kansas. Besides working for Manhattan s school district,
she is an avid member of the Flint Hills Human Rights Project. She got involved in this project
after her daughter came out to her as transgender. To help spread awareness to other people, she
goes around and gives speeches to churches, schools, and events. This particular speech was
conducted at City Park in Manhattan, Ks on April 16, 2016 at 3 p.m. for the Little Apple Pride
Parade. Sue s speech was about bullying, equality, and pride. Her major point or thesis was to
inform the audience on the struggles transgender teens or lgbt teens face. She discussed ways to
combat bullying in schools, tips for parents, and ways to get involved in the community. Sue
wanted to express her gratitude towards her supportive community and how they helped her to
understand why her daughter was the way she was. During her speech she... Show more content on

Her attire was casual, sporting a tie dyed shirt, and some jeans. This fit the event nicely, and made
people relate to her more. She spoke into the microphone efficiently, ensuring the audience could
hear her. At times, Sue became emotional, telling personal stories about her daughter. Although this
was relative to the topic of her speech, it drifted away from the informative nature of the speech.
The information she gave throughout the speech and language she used was fitting for the
occasion. At the end of the speech, Sue gave the audience the opportunity to ask questions.

My Perfect Life Essay
This is the story everyone knows; the story that has been heard. This is my name . You look at
me now and see me as the girl who has it pretty nice. I live in a simple house nothing too fancy. I
have nice clothes and a comfy bed to come home to every night. I have a loving dad and a family
who cares about me. This is what everyone sees. Everyone sees me planning a future. Most
people know that i want to become a math teacher and that i want to live in Charleston. I m seen
as the girl who always has good grades and is good with school. Everyone assumes i have the
simple easy life and believes i haven t been through anything difficult. I only let people see what
i want them to. I try to hide all the struggles i go through. I try to make it seem like the worst
thing that s ever happened to me is getting into a fight with my friend or me and a boy not
working out but i ve seen much worse. The world has taught us to hide our pains and failures.
We are all trying to fake the perfect life; but the truth is everyone is going through something or
has been through serious pain. The Bad A few months before i was born i went through my first
struggle. My dad left his wife and my sister to be with me and my mom. This caused my sister to
blame me for her never having a dad and our relationship will never be as strong as it could be if
that didn t happen. My next struggle which i don t remember but know it did happen. My mom

Edict Of Mil A Roman Emperor From 306-337 Ad
Edict of Milan Constantine the Great was a Roman Emperor from 306 337 AD. He was a soldier
who arduously worked to climb through the ranks, working through a civil war to become emperor.
He is most famous for establishing a new capital where Byzantium once was, and named the new
establishment Constantinople. However, Constantine is most famous for becoming Roman
Emperor who converted to Christianityin his forties. His mother, Helen, was a Christian and
ultimately decided to convert after believing that the Christian god had helped him in his success
though the war. He enacted the Edict of Milan in the third century with his co emperor Licinius,
and officially declared Christianity legal. This document was one of the most significant and
important writings of the time because it declares that Christians could freely practice religion. This
document ultimately opened up many windows and opportunities for people to openly practice
Christianity and prohibited people being subject to persecution. When Constantine converted, he
made the religion much more known and a religion of the powerful. This made Christianity the
official religion of the empire. Many Christians opted for pacifism and martyrdom as a way to
cope with their persecutors, but now Christians had an access to armies, swords, and an endless
supply of resources.
Many had issues with Christianity and believed that those who supported or practiced it should be
killed. The most known case is the emperor

of the mirror is on the surface a reflection of her vanity, but could also be considered an attempt
to hang onto the image she has of herself, a need to preserve some aspect of the privileged teen
that she wants to be. Similarly, America, at the time, spent a great deal of time devoted to their
image and ensuring it stood up to that of European countries. In addition to focusing on herself,
Rachel also focuses on physical appearance of others. When observing the villagers she says,

Demand For Medical Care Essay
Demand for Medical Care
The demand for medical care is derived from our demand for good health. Michael Grossman was
the first to do econometric research on this topic. Grossman s work established two approaches for
consideration. In the first, medical care is viewed as an input in the production function for health,
and in the second, as an output produced by medical care providers (Henderson, p.142). There are
two main factors that determine the demand for medical care. The first is the patient factor. This
includes a patient s health status, demographic characteristics and economic status. The second is
the physician factor. This is an interesting topic because it introduces the principal (patient) agent
(physician) problem. We are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a moral question that we need to answer is when do you stop? Thomas McKeown (1976)
noticed that there was a secular decline in mortality rates. The quality of life was one of the
major factors. There was an increase in income as well as education. The living standards and
nutrition chipped in as well. The public health authorities improved sanitation. Which in return
all lead to a decrease in diseases. An increase in technology also helped the cause. Diseases like
cancer where slowed due to Chemotherapy and stricter regulations directed to corporations on
dumping waste. (Henderson p.145) Genetics also play a major role in determining our health.
Half of your genes come from your father and the other half from your mother. There are two
factors that play a critical role in determining the health of an individual: the risk of exposure to
a particular disease and the ability of the individual to resist the disease (and recover from its
consequences) once exposed (Henderson p.144). If your father has high blood pressure then his
siblings are susceptible to high blood pressure too. Now we will look at the determinants in the
demand for medical care. Henderson defines demand as the sacrifice an individual is willing to
make in order to obtain a given amount of a particular good or service. In other words you can t
always get what you want. Need rarely equals demand. Need is almost always greater than demand.

Legal, Regulatory, and Ethical Issues
1.What are the 5 hottest topics today involving legal, regulatory and ethical issues impacting on
operating a B2C ebusiness? ECommerce has revolutionized the business world by expanding the
marketplace and redefining the traditional organizational structure. Its economic influence has been
considerable resulting in implications for politics, society and ethics. The future for eBusiness is
bright. It will continue its rapid expansion and may eventually take over from traditional business
practices however in today s society, there are very few laws enabling an effective transition.
ECommerce is a global concept (Hill, 2003, p12). Society, on the other hand, believes in state

If a cigarette company utilizes the World Wide Web for its marketing and advertising activities,

Laws When Tim Berners Lee developed the World Wide Web in 1989, he wanted it to become a
communications facilitator free from regulation (Berners Lee, 1996). Unfortunately, this type of
facility is just not commercially viable. If the World Wide Web is to be successfully utilized for
eBusiness, regulatory bodies need to standardize practices across the globe. Although individual
countries have implemented laws regarding computer crimes, these laws do not affect offenders
outside of that sovereign state. International legislation must ensure security for all parties involved.
Moving towards a solution: Laws regarding intellectual property should be continuously updated
and there must be tougher penalties for online crimes. This may mean the end of Berners Lee s
regulation free vision, but it provides an opportunity for a new, eCommerce friendly online
environment. 5. Risk of Fraud Much debate about the risk of fraud in electronic B2C takes place
without any clear understanding about who bears the corresponding risk in conventional
commercial transactions. See full paper (URL: http://www.fipr.org/WhoCarriesRiskOfFraud.htm),

  • 2. Kennedy Middle School Garden Case Study The Kennedy Middle School fifth grade class is growing a school garden. The students are very excited to grow a garden, but animals have been eating the goods, so a fence needs to be put in. The total cost to fence in the garden will be $159. The class calculated this by finding the perimeter (in feet) and multiplying it by the cost per foot of fence, $1.50. The Pythagorean Theorem a2 +b2=c2 helped find the hypotenuses of the two right triangles that the garden can be broken into, which helped the find the perimeter. The class first wrote the Pythagorean Theorem, which is a2 +b2=c2, to find the hypotenuses of the triangles. The legs of the triangles were represented by a and b and the hypotenuse was represented by c. After writing the equation, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Benefits Of The Humane Society The Humane Society began in America in 1954 with the goal of ending animal cruelty. The multiple founders were trying to save many animals and get society to end abuse to animals. A question often appearing what will be done with these animals in the shelter. Research has been done proving the help of pets in therapyhomes or a support for the mentally ill. Humane Societys play many roles in the community as it not only holds the animals that have no homes, it offers a place for community members to give back and volunteer. Giving your time to an organization like this has proved to be beneficial as people see how good they really have it, and it brings out the go good, feel good in an everyday person. Humane Society popularity has been growing rapidly in the past decade, but the nation as a whole does not know enough. The benefit that the humane society plays in society is large, as they keep animals off the streets and alive, but also gives community members an opportunity to volunteer. These animals reported usually are friendly and can help in society as therapy dogs or just an everyday pet. The benefits of the Humane Society are abundant and the founder had a great cause. • 4. The Battle Of Nazi Dictator Adolf Hitler Essay On February 27 of 2014, masked Russian troops without insignia infiltrated in south Ukraine and captured strategic sites across Crimea, a rugged peninsula that strategically juts in the Black Sea. Within a few days Crimea was under Russian control and by July 2015 Crimea was formally integrated into Russia. The whole episode drew international consternation against Russia, which resulted in successive rounds of economic sanctions. A few days after the annexation, Ms. Clinton likened the move to the actions of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler(Rucker, 2014), a sentiment that was quickly adopted by the media; for example, on March 2, 2014 Bloomberg published an article entitled, In Ukraine, Echoes of the Anschluss (Bershidsky, 2014) and a few days later, on March 7, 2014, BBC published an article entitled, Crimea seen as Hitler style land grab (Kralova, 2014). This is a very grave accusation and, given that the USA and Russia collectively hold 90% of all nuclear weapons, prudence is in order. Therefore, in this essay I purpose to assess the validity of the claim by using the Ladder of Inference, a reasoning method likened to a ladder as it is a step by step process that helps us draw better conclusions from true facts and reality. (Mind Tools). We can use this method in any of three ways; reflection (becoming aware of our own thinking), advocacy (making our thinking visible to others), and inquiry (inquiry into other s thinking). (Ross, n.d.) For this essay, I ll depend on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Dietary Supplement Essay Walking through a strip mall, the allure of a GNC or a Vitamin Shoppe can be hard to resist. Enter through the front doors and get lost in wall to wall shelves of products addressing health concerns so obscure that even the most neurotic hypochondriac would feel at ease. There are probiotics, herbal therapies, bodybuilding supplements, smart pills, beverage infusions, vitamins and minerals, you name it. The products on these shelves represent the fruits of a thirty billion dollar industry that capitalizes on consumers desire to aspire beyond good healthinto the illusive realm of wellness however that is defined (Reinberg, 2015). The logic fueling this desire makes sense: given so many options to choose from, there must be something that will make life even healthier and happier than it already is. This logic is both true and false at the same time. While there are a range of dietary supplements catering to a range of health needs, it is important to understand the facts behind them and how to distinguish effective products from useless ones. By considering science, avoiding marketing gimmicks, and moderating consumption, consumers can use dietary supplements in ways that could have life changing health benefits. Regulating your own consumption of dietary supplements based on independent research is extremely important, because unlike food and drugs, the government will not shoulder this responsibility for you. This policy can be traced back to legislation from just before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Impact Of John Stuart Mill On Income Inequality ECON1401 Written Assignment 1 John Stuart Mill and Income Inequality Many great economic thinkers throughout history has offered various differing yet interrelated views and ideas that may prove useful to the analysis of current issues in modern economics. A persistent issue in the modern economy is income inequality whereby the distribution of income among the population is unequal. This means that the gap between the rich and the poor increases over time if the issue is not appropriately addressed. In exploring the issue of income inequality in Australia, this essay aims to analyse the issue from the perspective of a selected economic thinker namely John Stuart Mill by: (1) providing a summary of Mill s key ideas and theories, including the different forces that may have shaped his thinking; (2) applying Mill s conceptual framework to the income inequality problem; and (3) offer solutions he might have suggested to address this problem, including policies that may be adopted and institutions that may be constructed in the Australian context. In order to consider the problem of income inequality from Mill s perspective, it is of imperative importance to first grasp an understanding of what factors contributed to the development of his key ideas. Known as one of the most influential figures in classical economics, Mill is more commonly described as a philosopher and socialist than an economist due to his obstinate strive for progressive social reform throughout his ... • 7. Edward Jenner and the First Vaccine Edward Jenner was born on May 17, 1749 Berkeley, Gloucestershire England. By the time Edward was the age of eight years old he already showed an interest in bird and nature. When Edward was thirteen years old he began an apprenticeship with surgeon Daniel Ludlow. He continued to study Daniel Ludlow until the age of twenty one when he went to London to study under surgeon John Hunter at St. George s hospital. After finishing his studies he returned to Berkley and ran his own medical practice. In this era, surgeons were taught through apprenticing and physicians were educated through universities. Edward Jennerreturned to school and in 1792 earned a medical degree from the University of St. Andrews. In the 18th century Europe was plagued by a disease called Small Pox. Small pox is caused by the virus variola; it enters through the lungs into the blood system, infecting the organs. The virus then spreads to the skin where it multiplies causing a rash, fever, headache, backache and vomiting. The rash begins small and grows bigger and raised from the skin. Severe cases cause death from blood poisoning, other infections or internal bleeding. There is no effective treatment once infected. If you were a survivor you were left with terrible scars and sometimes blindness. Surviving small pox also made you immune so many people were inoculated during this time. Edward Jenner was inoculated as a young boy then locked in a barn with other inoculated children; he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Importance Of Listening As A Servant Leader Discussion Following this further, we will discuss the remarks of various authors about the importance of listening as a servant leader, as well as how it is effected by emotional intelligence. It is also important that we compare and contrast the various viewpoints on this subject, before we answer the research questions based on this literature. Listening First, we will review the literature from various authors on why listening is important as a servant leader. As mentioned earlier, Spears (2002), illustrated how listening was a critical aspect of servant leadership, and the first in his list of ten elements which were vital in regard to the development of servant leaders (loc. 119). This identification as a crucial element of servant leadership, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Emotional intelligence is a term that Daniel Goleman coined to describe a bundle of psychological attributes that many strong and effective leaders exhibit (Hill, Jones, Schilling, 2014, p. 32). As described by Hill et al. (2014), emotional intelligence incorporates self awareness, self regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills (p. 32). In contrast, Covey (2002) lists only empathy and awareness as one of his ten characteristics of servant leaders. Daniel Goleman also goes on to mention that leaders who have these traits are more successful than those who do not. In Goleman s view, people respect leaders who, because they are self aware, recognize their own limitations and, because they are self regulating, consider decisions carefully (Hill et al., 2014, p. 32). He goes on to describe how motivation helps persuade others towards a leader s vision. Finally, strong empathy and social skills can help leaders earn the loyalty of subordinates (Hill et al., 2014, p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the context of migration, cooking becomes a particularly significant process. All the migrants belong to certain ethnic groups, membership of which they express through food choices. This concept is broadly discussed in the memoir Me in Place, and the Place in Me by Parvathi Raman. Raman tells about her migration from India to the UK. In this regard, she recalls how her mother learnt to cook in the new country. Even though they made a decision not to prepare English dishes, some foreign foods entered their diet. • 10. The Paradoxes Of Abrahamic Religions In the beginning, God said let there be Abrahamic religions. And it was so. Ancient Israelites carried many traditions molded by the conditions in which they found themselves. Monotheism was a very different ideology at this time in world history and lead to cultural clashes between the Israelites and other regional powers. Their soteriology and religious practices eventually became the foundations on which modern Christianitystands. However, time causes great change in many things and Christianity is no exception. With these theological and fundamental changes arose a number of paradoxes. It is easy to just accept the discourse of a religion, but when one or a group of people start to truly analyze the principles of a faith, many times conflicts arise in truly knowing what cannot be know. What is life like after ones death. Metaphysical idea with really not evidence to support them. It is only with the insights and work of theologians and writers like Dionysus, Origen, Augustine and Dante that these paradoxes were further analyzed and resolved. In an ancient world embedded in polytheism, the views of the ancient Israelites was arguably a radical one for the time. This radicalism in a modern view seems practical and completely normal, yet during the time of the ancient Jewish people this factor brought with it a great deal of hardship. The cosmos of the semitic world world was that of heaven above, the earth in the middle, and the netherworld below (McDannel 1). The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of the time, however, he will simply try to avoid situations in which he thinks will trigger those panic attacks. Early last year in 2010, due to his frustration in trying to overcome those panic attacks, he fell into depression. At the same time, he said that he was also having problem at work with one of his colleagues who seemed to be jealous of him and tried to damage his reputation. • 12. Factors Affecting The Demand For Toothbrushes To assess the factors affecting the demand for toothbrushes in India, a situation analysis has been performed using the 5Cs framework: Context: In 2009, India was the world s largest democracy; with a population of 1.16billion growing at 1.4% per annum, the country suffered from a huge disparity in income with the majority of Indian population (78%) living in rural areas, and as many as 80% living under $2 per day. The 78% who lived in rural areas accounted for c. 64% of total expenditures in India. Around 50% of the Indian population did not have sufficient awareness of dental healthcare, and did not associate dental problems with improper care but rather to eating habits or genetics; most of these Indians were using natural remedies as chewing twigs from the Neem tree. Among the remaining population who used modern dental healthcare or a toothbrush, 77% brushed their teeth less than twice a day (recommended usage), and out of the 747.1million brushes sold every year, only 8.6% replaced their brush every 3 months. Cottle Taylor (CT) enjoyed a large market share in India and focused on toothbrushes. Given the peculiarities of the market, CT decided to focus on toothbrushes where it enjoys larger gross margins by virtue of its existing manufacturing infrastructure that has been built over the years. Customers: Given the composition of the Indian population described earlier, the customers are typically price sensitive with not much disposable income. The majority of ... • 13. Summary Of Clare Boothe Luce s Speech As society advances and the opinions of the general public change several press outlets work to stay up to date with the changing times. However, in an attempt to stay modernized journalists often times sacrifice their integrity to stay favorable in the public eye. These degrading actions, often times sacrifice the true news for more appealing news. Clare Boothe Luce, American journalist and politician, gives a controversial speech to the Women s National Press Club condemning her female audience. Moreover, as a female addressing an audience of women she is able to give her true opinion and is able to honestly critique her colleagues. She persuades her audience by preparing them for the criticism by reiterating that she is the guest, by praising journalism, and by logically providing reasoning that the journalistic view must change for the good of the general public. Luce begins her speech by expressing her happiness and excitement for being invited to be the guest of honor at the Women s National Press Club. Expressing her happiness, she says she is flattered and challenged by the opportunity to give her speech. However, as she continues her introduction by repeating her introductory statement she alters it by saying that she is less happy and more challenged than one might know. The slight change in her statement prepares her audience for something that they may view as unpleasant, so that they do not feel shocked about what they are about to hear. Not only is Clare Luce able to subtly communicate with her audience but she is also able to provide signs that can help them better understand her purpose. Additionally, in order to remind the audience that they asked for her opinion, Luce states that she did not offer to give the speech rather she says you asked for it, reminding the audience that her opinion and critique is exactly what they requested. The repetition of the nature of her speech allows Luce to confirm that her audience is clear about her intentions with the speech that she is about to give. As Luce continues her speech she softens her audience for the criticism by praising their careers and their writings. Yet, she continues to provide warnings by retelling them that they are an ... I feel like it is 10000000000000000 miles to walk from Sweeney to the East Hall. However, whenever I first step into the class, the first thing I will look for is what hat is going to be on Mr. Driscoll s head. There are all cute and smart hats! I laugh every single time I look at his funny hats. Oh, I have a tagline for this class! A hat a day, keeps the stress away. Ah, I am going to miss his hats, I swear. Time flies so fast. Spring is about coming to the end. I am definitely not the same person today as I was yesterday. Everything has changed; hopefully in a good way. Yes, I make mistakes, I reflect, and I become wiser at the end. In this essay, I am going to write some reflections that drive me to become a better writer. During the process of drafting a paper, one of the things I have in mind is my audience. In order to write a good paper, it is crucial to consider the audience so you can identify how you are going to write it. For example, if you are going to write letter to your brother, it will sound weird if you use formal language. Same goes if you are writing to the Obama; it will definitely sound weird if you greet him like, how is it going, bro? It is way too informal and you cannot do this if you are writing to your leader. What I am trying to say here is it is your audience that will determine the style of your writing. Before this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Environment Is A System Of Living Things An environment is a system of living things. The Earth is our environment. The capacity of our environment to offer space, to reap nutrition and to fund energy are all limited. Food, water and other basic assets are strained by the escalating requests of our persistently developing population. We rely on these limited resources for our survival, yet we are quickly extending our populationas though they were infinite. This reality is at the focal point of our environmental issues. Despite the fact that the number of inhabitants on earth has been escalating in a continuous manner since 1400, the most emotional increment has taken place in more recent decades. Overpopulationis a standout amongst the most concerning troubles in present times. It is an undesirable condition where the number of existing human population exceeds the carrying capacity of Earth. (1) There is a natural point of confinement to the population size that can be reasonably maintained by an environment. Overpopulation is the undesirable condition where the amount of the existing human population exceeds this natural limit and eventually devours our planet with the request for more nutrition from less land and water supplies. As the total population develops, enhancing expectations for everyday comforts and improving living standards without destroying the Earth is a global challenge. Why Organisations Need to Change Why organisations need to change Change management is relevant as though the research finds that change is taking place at an ever increasing pace, the evidence suggests that most change initiatives fail. For example, recent CIPD research suggested that less than 60% of re organisations met their stated objectives which are usually bottom line improvement. This is consistent with other published research. The impact of failures to introduce effective change can also be high: loss of market position, removal of senior management, loss of stakeholder credibility, loss of key employees. Finally, one organisational response to change is that organisational forms are themselves evolving. Therefore, the change management response will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What can be done to make change management more effective? From the issues raised in the section above, it can be seen that change is complex and there is not a single solution. However, a number of key areas of focus emerge. Effective leadership is a key enabler as it provides the vision and the rationale for change. Different styles of leadership have been identified, for example coercive, directive, consultative and collaborative. These different styles may each be appropriate depending on the type and scale of change being undertaken. For example, when there is a large scale organisation wide change a directive style has been identified as most effective. Appropriate and timely training is frequently identified as key to effective change. Specifically, the more regulations there are in a given country targeted at a ridesharing business, the harder it will be to develop and sustain Scooterino in that economy. What is interesting in this analysis is that the four cities under consideration Berlin, London, Madrid and Paris are, naturally, all parts of the EU political and legal framework. It is worth noting that one of the biggest names in a ridesharing business Uber has faced considerably more obstacles on its rise to prominence in Europe, compared to the United States, where it originated. The blacks hated and rooted against the Springboks, who had fourteen white players and just one black player (30 for 30). They would cheer when the opponents would beat or hurt the Springboks, because in their eyes they saw the people oppressing them being beat. Mandela put on the Springbok hat at a rally in Soweto, endorsed the Springboks, and asked the black South Africans to support them too (Lodge 212). The blacks met the speech with boos, skepticism, and anger. Black South Africans hated rugby, and the Springbok logo was one directly associated with apartheid oppression (Carlin 192). I was excited to visit after being gone for more than 27 years. I was excited about seeing family I had never met. The idea of finally being able to see my people face to face, left me sleepless at night. The one thing that brought mixed emotions to me was finally being able to keep a promise. I promise that I was not sure I would be able to fulfill. See, throughout the years I had continuously made a promise to my mama Maria. For reasons, out of my control it would take years for this promise to be completed. Mama Maria, is a fragile woman. She suffers from Alzheimer s disease. She has had this terrible disease for many years. This woman who is now 101 years old, is my maternal great grandmother. When you see her, you see a fragile old pale skinned blue eyed woman, who sometimes struggles to keep her eyes open. Due to her age and health, she is now wheelchair bound. She relies on others to feed, change, dress or simply move her around. Maria is stronger than she looks and sometimes feels. See her frail wrinkly skin is just the proof of the many strong beautiful years she has lived. She was born in Arandas, Jalisco located in Mexico. She was 1 of many children. Jim Carrey Speech Analysis Many people recognize Jim Carrey as the pet detective or the not so bright Lloyd Christmas, but during his commencement speech to the graduating class of 2014 at the Maharishi University of Management, he opens up to reveal a much deeper side of himself. While the speech he delivers is permeated with his traditional humor, Carrey also inspires his audienceto think about how they want to conduct their lives. Carrey presents an effective argument for persuading college graduates who are entering the work field to not let fear control how they live. By successfully employing anecdote, analogy, and audience engagement, Carrey entices his audience to be willing to take risks and choose love over fear when approaching a career and other life... Although he knew that his family could not afford a bike, he followed the advice of his substitute teacher and prayed for one , and continued life normally, without particularly looking for how this would be accomplished. Carrey then shares his later astonishment, saying, two weeks later, I got home from school to find a brand new mustang bike with a banana seat and easy rider handlebars because a friend had entered Carrey s name in a raffle without his knowledge. With this experience, Carrey gives an example of his own outlook on life letting the universe know what you want and working towards goals while letting go of how it might come to pass has worked in his own life. Through sharing this positive experience, Carrey entices his audience to refuse choosing fear when things seem impossible, and instead choose hope and love. Carrey uses analogy as a method of expressing certain ideas to his audience. First, Carrey conveys the unpredictability of life by using an analogy of a cat that will rub up against your leg and purr until you pick her up and start pettin her, and out of nowhere she ll swat you in the face . For Carrey s audience of graduating college students, who are just about to enter the work force and other aspects of life, this analogy helps students understand that life will be unpredictable; both pleasant and painful. • 38. Philippine American War Essay Philippine American War In the past centuries, colonialism has been a country s way of gaining great amounts of wealth and cheap labor. The idea of colonialism has been heavily controversial, in terms of today s standards. In the United States of America, Americans were also against this idea, since they also have been under the harsh rule of the British empire. However, after the Spanish American war ended in 1898 through the Treaty of Paris, the US government decided to own the colonies that have been ceded by the Spanish. This decision marked the turning point in American history because it violated their constitution and redefined what it means to be the upholders of democracy. In one of the acquired colonies, the Philippines expected ultimate independence instead of a change of colonial power. This allowed conflict to mount between the two countries, which prompted the Filipinos to stage a revolt against the Americans. Unfortunately, because of the U.S. government s dedication to establish its sovereignty over the islands, the desire of the Filipinos to gain their independence, and the economic implications of the islands towards America, the two countries were unable to form a compromise leading to the Philippine American War. This resulted to the death of more than 250,000 Filipinos and 4,200 U.S. troops. Ironically, this ugly encounter between the Americans and the Filipinos brought peace and strong relations after the war that last until today. The Philippines ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hagar s acts of running away from Sara twice helps me perceive Hagar taking over the role of an oppressor from her former role of one being oppressed. Abortion A.Jonathan Glover, in his article Matters of Life and Death casts dispersions on both pro abortion and anti abortion debates citing them as too knee jerk emotional reactions diminishing the inherent complexity of the other side (1. Glover, CC2006, p. 0110). Glover comprehensively addresses the key points of both sides of the abortion debate and evaluates their inherent virtues, especially for those who hold these opinions, then methodically points out its flaws. There are essentially three objections to murder: it takes away the victim s autonomy, it prevents the victim from years of life it was due, and the effects of others who had some relation to the victim (6. Glover, CC2006, p. 0110). Casting aside religious teachings because of the variety of religions, Glover focuses on these three objections. Glover claims that a fetus has no real autonomy of its own, thus can not be afforded its own rights and that even if the fetus did have rights, the rights and autonomy of the mother supercede the rights of the fetus (7. Glover, CC2006, p. 0113). In this way, the second reason also falls by the leeway because years of life due to the mother if her life was threatened by the pregnancy or the years she has to invest in raising an unwanted child is usurped by the birth of the fetus. And finally, though not explicitly mentioned, the only other person that a fetus has any relation or interaction with is the mother, thus if the mother wants the fetus aborted, the moral implications that arise reside solely with the mother. It is in this way that Glover returns to his original assertion that to deny women the right to control what happens in their bodies is wrong, but cautions that a fetus is a human right at conception, so ending the life of the fetus is equal to ending the life of any human, yet the rights afforded to women trump all of this and whatever moral pitfalls that a ... There are two main factors that determine the demand for medical care. The first is the patient factor. This includes a patient s health status, demographic characteristics and economic status. The public health authorities improved sanitation. Which in return all lead to a decrease in diseases. An increase in technology also helped the cause. Diseases like cancer where slowed due to Chemotherapy and stricter regulations directed to corporations on dumping waste. (Henderson p.145) Genetics also play a major role in determining our health. Half of your genes come from your father and the other half from your mother.
