Ethnic Differences Between South And Valley
The race or ethnicity of the students in valley are very different from my home school South. Here at
valley there are mixed race/ethnicity and at my home school their are mostly white people and less of
other different type of race. At South the most common spoken language is English and like ta Valley
people can speak different language. The only thing that South and Valley do that are common is the
involvement of parents. At South we call it parent night,CCR conferences which CCR stands for
(college career readiness). We go to it every Friday and what we do is talk about college, our goals, our
grades, and than when we are ready we have a conferces that our parents have to go. At Valley we
have exhibition which parents are welcome to come

A Brief Note On Arthritis And Its Effects On The Body

Gouty Arthritis

VNFT031
Gouty arthritis, more commonly known as gout, is a very painful condition that primarily affects the
joints especially those of the great toe, ankles, wrist, and fingers. Gout is most commonly seen in men,
particularly those between the ages of 40 and 50 (Bradford, 2014 ). Gout is not a disease that is new to
society; it has been around for centuries. The first recorded incidence of gout was in Egypt in 2640
BC, to the Egyptians gout was called podagra (Nuki, 2006). Gout is highly linked to one s diet and in
history gout was known to affect the affluent population more than any other. Humans are the only
living organisms that seem to have the problem of gout. The reason this is so is most likely due to the
fact that in other organisms, such as reptiles, fish, dogs, have an enzyme, uricase, that is responsible
for the breakdown of uric acid. The leading cause of gout is due to the ineffective metabolism of
purines. When purines are ingested in the body it is converted into urate. Gout leads to hyperuricemia,
which is high blood uric acid levels. For a person who ingests a normal and balanced amount of
purines, the body is able to handle it and filter it out of the body via the kidneys. If a person has a
decreased function of their kidneys their chances of getting gout, alongside many other things,
significantly increases. The kidneys are responsible for

Ductus Deferens Research Paper
Ductus deferens
The ductus deferens (otherwise known as the vas deferens) is a structure found in the male
reproductive system. There are two ductus deferens and they are identical in their structure and
function. The primary function of the ductus deferens is to store and transport sperm to the ejaculatory
duct, connecting the epididymis, merging into the urethra pushing it forward and allowing the sperm
to exit the body. The ductus deferens are designed for this function, characterised by thick muscular
walls, which perform peristalsis. The inside wall consists of a moist folded layer of mucous
membrane, which is further surrounded by three layers of circular and longitudinal muscle fibres. At
the end of the ductus deferens are the ampulla, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The skin of the scrotum becomes wrinkled due to the underlying dartos muscle. The testes must be
kept at temperature that is lower than 3oC, so that spermatogenesis can occur. The scrotum uses a
muscle (the cremaster muscle) to achieve this. When the cremaster muscle shrinks, the testes move
closer to the scrotum, and this increases the temperature of them. They can also be cooled down by
dilating and moving away from the testes, dropping them in temperature. The testes receive their
blood flow from the anterior and posterior scrotal artery. The venous blood flows through the
testicular veins and then into the vena cava. Another function of the testes is to protect the testes from
injury, hence why one testis hangs lower than the other, to avoid compression in the event of impact.
Testes (Male gonads)
The testes are two ovular organs found in the male reproductive system. They are held in place by a
spermatic cord, which is a collection of vessels, nerves and ducts that run from more than one part of
the testes. The testes function to create the hormone testosterone; a primary male sex hormone which
generates the production of sperm. The seminiferous tubules which are located in the testes are
responsible for the production of sperm cells, and the sperm made in this process line the tubules until
they reach maturity and are released into the lumen of the seminiferous tubule.

The Gnp Should Support A Second Independence Referendum
The GNP should support a second independence referendum in Glebeland because the call for a
second independence referendum would bring benefit to this country. Different from its name, the
United Kingdom, instead of using federalism, is a unitary state. Even though Glebeland has its own
culture and language, being a member country of the United Kingdom, it only enjoys limited power
delegated from the central government of the United Kingdom. Because of the diversity in culture,
Glebeland needs a higher level of decentralization. If this time the independence referendum would
succeed, the Glebeland would become an economically as well as politically independent entity and
could go back to the European Union as it wishes. If it would fail as ... Show more content on

Through this process with a slippery slope, Glebeland is able to gain more power than other member
countries. The continuous increase in power could prepare Glebeland s government to become an
independent government in the future.
The condition of Glebeland s power gaining process is similar to the condition of Scotland s, which
occupies 54 seats in the House of Commons. The legislative bargaining offers Scotland a chance to
continuously earn more power under the asymmetric power devolution of the United Kingdom.
Followed by the establishment of the Scottish parliament in 1977, the Scottish National Party (SNP)
became one of the largest parties in the UK in 1999, and then held power in the Scottish general
election in 2007. The power gaining process of Glebeland is parallel to the process of Scottish. Thus,
similar to the Scottish government, Glebeland s government is getting more prepared to lead an
independent nation. It is true that one cannot eliminate the possibility that the second independence
referendum would fail again. However, with the slippery slope of the power gaining process, this
second referendum could still help Glebeland s government bargain for more power with the central
government even if it turns out to have a No result. Consequently, it could ensure Glebeland a higher
degree of autonomous power.

Temporomandibular Asymmetry
The relevance of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) to malocclusion become a hot issue in recent
years. TMDs is a collective complex term for a group of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular
conditions which includes several clinical signs and symptoms involving the muscles of mastications,
temporomandibular joint, and associated structures (Manfredini et al., 2010; Ferreira et al., 2013). The
displacement of mandible can influence the modeling process of the TMJ, leading to asymmetry.
Eventhough a small amount of asymmetry in the maxillofacial region is common, there is a critical
threshold distance that is considered as asymmetric (Masuoka et al., 2007; Chu et al., 2011; Almasan
et al., 2103; Kang., 2015). At the same time many authors have shown ... Show more content on

The impact for the quality of life because functional problems that related to the role of
temporomandibular joint is in the stomatognatic system and also effect the facial appearance, such as
facial asymmetry (Serzgin et al., 2007; Khan et al., 2013). In daily practice, posteroanterior
cephalogram is used widely in detection of asymmetry mandible that involved skeletal and
dentoalveolar component (Pharaoh., 2014) Investigating the connection between morphologically
anatomy landmark with sign and symptom of TMDs, has been an interesting question than debating
about malocclusion causes TMDs or vice versa. Recent study reported that sign and symptom of TMD
as main risk factor in the occurance of mandibulofacial asymmetry (Purbiati et al., 2016). Asymmetry
in mandibular usually result in a shift of the chin and 70% of patients with facial asymmetry and chin
deviation presented structural and displacement asymmetry, while only 10% showed pure
displacement asymmetry and facial askeletal asymmetry was reported exists in patients with chin

Analysis Of The Lost Boy By Dave Pelzer
The Lost Boy, written by Dave Pelzer is a heartwarming story of a young nine year old boy, David,
who has family issues and is constantly being abused by his mother. Dave Pelzer is a New York Times
Bestseller and a #1 International Bestseller. He has written other books such as A Child Called It , My
Story, and A Man Named Dave, etc. This is my first story read by this author however, I will read
more of his work in the near future. The genre of this book I would say is self help, psychology and
inspirational because it sends out such a strong statement of what this young boy and probably many
other children are dealing with, in other words, it helps raise awareness. I myself did not imagine to be
reading this type of book since I m more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main idea of this book is to show everyone what child abuse and what living in different foster
homes is like because most of the time people don t usually talk about this topic due to sensitivity and
this book helped everyone realize in a subtle way. I learned that this story isn t just imagined, but it
does indeed happen in real life. Children do live in households where the mother or father or whoever
treats them unfair and that is what opened up my eyes. One of the parts in the book that I enjoyed the
most is towards the end of the book for the reason that earlier in the story, when David first ran away
from home he saw a road sign that lead to a lake where him and his family would visit in the past and
right then and there he said he was going to live there when he grew up and in the end, his desire came
true and he lived in a cabin he made himself by the lake with his son, Stephen.
One of my favorite quotes of this story would be on page 303 which says, Years ago, I truly doubted
whether I d make it out alive. In my former life I had very little. Today, as I stand in my utopia, I have
what any person could wish for a life and the love of my son. Stephen and I are a family. The reason I
like this quote is because all his life, David was looking for a family and love and he finally found it.
In conclusion, I would most definitely recommend this book because it s very vulnerable and
emotional. Right from the beginning it may

Self Observation Of A Self
Throughout my self observation, I felt the need to start with a baseline of who I am. Being raised in
the south I learned to respect myself and others, but sometimes people are just right down obnoxious.
Also, I hold myself to high standards because there s no reason why I cannot make my goals a reality
if I give it my all. This is known as Self Concept: The relatively stable set of perceptions you hold of
yourself. (Page 63) For example, in my observation I notice my patience level is very thin for people
who do not have respect for other s education. There s one girl in particular yesterday, who texted the
whole class, which my nursing class is from 8:30am to 2pm. Therefore, as I m trying to listen and
highlight in my book, only thing I hear is the sound of her long nails tapping on her keyboard or her
phone vibrating. Than during break she wants to ask me for the notes, because the teacher was moving
too fast. Since this is still the first couple of weeks of school, I try to be a little more understanding,
but I will not do someone s work just for them not to pay attention. Therefore today, when the test
came around I had studied my butt off and scored very well. But for the girl that sits next to me, she
complained that the test was too hard and how we didn t have the appropriate information to study for
the test. In that moment, I found myself comparing our differences, I work hard for my grades. I study
and work my butt off then there s those people that don t do anything in class but are the first ones to
complain. The book recognized this as Social Comparison: Evaluating ourselves in terms of how we
compare with others. (Page 66) Throughout the rest of my day, I noticed I compare myself to a lot of
different people without even noticing. Like when I was driving home I saw all these people texting
and driving, and I just could not help thinking like what the heck, I can t even look to the side without
going into the other line so how in the world are they texting! I do not compare myself to other to
prove whose better but I believe it just natural to compare others to yourself.
While at home, I observe the unreserved self more than while am at school where I trend to be a little
reserved. I

Revenge in the Great Expectations
REVENEGE IN THE GREAT EXPECTATIONS NAME: TARYN LUU| DATE: NOVEMBER 13,

Great Expectation by Charles Dickens. In this novel, many characters go out of their way to extract
revenge, leading them to misfortunes such as death and imprisonment. Dickens makes it very clear
that nothing positive can come from revenge through his characters and the results that come from
their revenge. These acts range from petty resentment filled with passion, to long and drag out strife
laced with malice, to lifelong vendettas driven by hatred. Revenge comes in many forms and for

Magwitch was then sentenced to imprisonment for the rest of his life where upon if he ever escaped
again, he d face the death sentence. Magwitch is sent off to New South Wales, where he worked
several jobs and made a handsome amount of money all of which he sent to Pip through Jaggers
anonymously. It isn t until later in the novel does Magwitch sneaks back to England as an escaped
convict, under an alias and he reveals to Pip that he is Pip s benefactor. Pip s discovery makes him
very discontent but later realizes the only way to get Magwitch out of his life is to help him escape
England, on a boat. However again on his journey to fredoom Magwitch is faced with the same
dilemma, when their steam boat is intercepted by another boat and Compeyson is on it. Magwitch is
forced to choose between freedom and revenge; and he again chooses the latter, tackling Compeyson,
they both sink into the water only Magwitch comes up. As expected, Magwitch is sentenced to death
immediately, only his sentence is delayed when he is stricken by illness. At this point, Magwitch s
death is ascertained, either he was going to die of illness or he was going to die at his sentence. This
was the result of Magwitch s actions; by choosing revenge over all else not just once, but twice. These
results help emphasis that revenge is nothing more than a gateway to misfortunes, and in Magwitch s
case that gate way is to death. Miss Havisham faces a lifelong

Definition Of Honesty In The Odyssey
Cole Kilboy English 9 Volpi 29 Mar. 2017 The Price of Honesty Honesty is truly the best policy.
Merriam Webster defines honesty as being, free of deceit and untruthfulness; sincere. Some people
view honesty as the foremost virtue in a trustworthy person. However, this world is tainted with many
who deceive others to be revered, although when you turn around they will be divergent from your
views typically lying to benefit themselves at the expense of your state. A common term for these
people is a fake person or a snake . It is remarkably difficult to find a truly honest man, and when
found, many are taken advantage of. This is often because some view them as a doormat who they use
simply to get rumors, gossip, or information they need. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

However, this rejection that these characters have also seems to be a symbol of male anxiety. The
characters always seem to be dispatched by their male equivalents. Looking at Heat again, when Neil
Mc Cauley is dying, he reaches out gesturing to hold Vincent s hand, squeezing it tightly. This scene
cries out as a testimony to Michael Mann s recurring interest in the relationship between the
professional opposites which almost always seems to result in a metaphysical displacement that is
strangely elevating.

The double is the battle between the protagonist and the antagonist in Mann s film. The double always
seems to be men with opposite professions. But still professions that take place or follow those that
are in the urban night. In Collateral Vincent (Tom Cruise) is a hitman whilst Max (Jamie Foxx) is a
taxi driver. In Heat Neil Mc Cauley is a criminal whilst Vincent (Al Pacino) is a cop. The
expressionistic use of urban architecture in Mann s films (concreate, glass, steel) highlights the
estrangement that postmodernism creates between people. This mirror image theme is most visible in
the Manhunter . Will Graham (William Petersen), chases after the notorious tooth fairy serial killer
because he is able to place himself in the same mind set as the killer in order to catch him. His
psychological instincts and suppressed self, contain an inner self that is unnatural and vexatious. This
theme of mirror images is also present in Collateral . When Max is forced to confront his boss about
being exploited about, we see the contempt that Vincent has for authority and power in general. Max
wants to get rid of Vincent because he is a constant reminder of his failure to take appropriate action in
his life. Max is totally at the mercy of the social forces and unable to negotiate which unlike Vincent
who is a hitman has a detachment from this empowerment that he has constructed through identifying

Transparency And Transparency Of Government
Transparency in Government
To address transparency issues, adequate transparency within government must be ensured; and
transparency and accountability should be promoted within democratic governance. Florida leads the
country in providing public access to government meetings and records. Florida State leaders believe
in the notion that government should be held accountable to the citizens. U.S. Supreme Court Justice
Louis D. Brandeis wrote, in his 1932 article called What Publicity Can Do that, Sunlight is said to be
the best of disinfectants; electric light the most efficient policeman. (Brandeis, 1914) Government
transparency means placing all financial and public information online in an easy to use, readily
understandable system. A transparent system is important, because it allows taxpayers to see clearly
how public servants are spending tax money, and it also gives citizens the ability to hold their elected
officials accountable.
Transparency in government is not a new issue. John Adams, 2nd president of the United States,
wrote, Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people, who have a right
and a desire to know. (Adams, 1992) In other words, a healthy system of government is an open
government that allows all who desire to know to find the information they are seeking. Transparency
is crucial to democratic governance, because governments have access to extensive amounts of
important information. Distribution of this information

Essay on Martin Luther Reformation
Martin Luther: Reformer
Martin Luther was born in Eisieben, Germany, on November 10,1483, St. Martin amp;#8217;s Day.
He was the son of Has Luther, a coal miner, and Margarethe. Martin amp;#8217;s parents were of the
middle class and were unbending in their disciplinary acts. He attended the best schools in his region
but all of them held to the barbaric discipline system of the times. This had a big impact on Martin
amp;#8217;s personality. But he did receive some positive influence from his home environment. His
parents were very pious people and brought him up to be one too. His parents also gave him a strong
sense of superstition. At the age of 14 Luther went to grammar school at Magdeburg. There he got

He always felt that he did not do enough to receive salvation. He felt unworthy of receiving salvation
and this left him unsure of his afterlife. He looked for ways to prove his worthiness to the Lord. He
thought that no mere mortal could approach the majesty and holiness of God. There for he thought one
couldn amp;#8217;t obtain salvation from doing many good works, but rather through faith in the
almighty. This revelation of Luther amp;#8217;s gave him great relief. It told him that the God freely
gives people his grace if only one has faith. So Luther stopped worrying about doing penance for his
sins. He came to an understanding of salvation called amp;#8220;justification by faith ;. As he
meditated on his new philosophy he thought of all the ideas that would later pit him against the
Catholic Church.
Luther was one of the greatest contributors of the Reformation. He posted his 95 theses on the Church
door for the world to see. He was not afraid of the Church and openly spoke out against its evils. He
didn amp;#8217;t take back his word when it was certain he could die during his appearance before
the emperor at the Diet of Worms. He started Lutheranism and inspired others to speak out against the
Church.

T. E Lawrence Research Paper
T.E. Lawrence
Thomas Edward Lawrence was one of the few impactful soldiers and scholars of World War I.
Lawrence, a British military officer, had many well known critical achievements in the war, known to
the world around us. As he overcame bullets shot his way, shrapnel flying over his head, and the
numerous casualties of war, Lawrence made a momentous impact on World War I by helping the
Arabs revolt against the Ottoman Empire and by doing so, he impacted World War I. T.E. Lawrence
dedicated his life to raising awareness for the injustices faced by Arab people, while supporting his
nation by serving the British Army, ultimately leading to the rebellion of Arabs against Turks which he

In 1919, on behalf of the Arab delegation, Lawrence travelled to the Paris Peach conference.
Lawrence observed that several delegations ignored the Arabs; therefore the Arabs could not become a
self governing state. This brought great disappointment to T.E. Lawrence, but he could not do
anything about it. In the late 1920s, Winston Churchill hired Thomas Lawrence as an advisor in the
Colonial office. Then Thomas Lawrence retired from the army and wrote a famous memoir regarding
his experiences, The Seven Pillars of Wisdom. The memoir would not be published until 1926.
Lawrence slowly became popular and a well known celebrity. Part of the reason he was popular was
because of Lowell Thomas, who supported Lawrence s views. After a few years in retirement
Lawrence returned to the British army as a pilot for thirteen years. Lawrence did not appreciate the
fame, so he took pseudonyms when he rejoined the army. Examples of these pseudonyms were
Thomas Edward Shaw and John Hume Ross. After serving on various missions, Lawrence returned
back to retirement. Sadly, T.E. Lawrence got into an accident while speeding back from the post office
in Cloud Hills. Some say he lost control while others conspire that he committed suicide. In the end,
Lawrence was declared dead on May 19, 1935. Though his life came to such a tragic end, the

Essay about Sir Isaac Newton’s Principia and the Royal...
The publication of Isaac Newton s Principia Mathematica is widely considered an extraordinary event
in the history of science. In the Principia, Newton introduced a system of mechanical explanation of
the world that revolutionized physics. Of particular importance in the Principia was Newton s
mathematical demonstration of the existence of the force of gravity, which he demonstrated to be at
work in a wide range of phenomena. But as revolutionary as Newton s discovery and demonstration
was, the Principia also represented a revolution in the goals of science. Newton s Principia helped to
shift the course of science from an effort to find first causes into an attempt to establish a set of

The most fundamental impact of the existence of the Royal Society on the trajectory of scientific
inquiry was its fostering of a community of scientific intellectuals. The Royal Society provided a
journal for publishing scientific works (the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society), a
prestigious title for its elected Fellows, and even salaried jobs for its officers. With this support for the
work of intellectuals dedicated to science, the Royal Society promoted a network of individuals with
which those with new ideas could cooperate, correspond, and debate. This function of the Royal
Society deeply impacted both the creation and the dissemination of Isaac Newton s ideas. Indeed,
before the Principia, Newton was reluctant to publish his mathematical or scientific works, opting
instead to perfect and disseminate his discoveries by corresponding with other intellectuals. It was the
Royal Society s creation of a community of intellectuals that allowed for this process to occur: most of
Newton s correspondents were either direct employees or elected Fellows of the Royal Society, such
as Henry Oldenburg, Edmond Halley, John Craig, John Collins, and others. Further, even when
unpublished, many of Newton s manuscripts were deposited at the library Royal Society in London
for others to read and learn from. This network of individuals in a focused scientific community would
prove an invaluable resource for Newton in

interactions: A naturalistic observational study of dual earner couples in their homes (Wang Repetti,
2014). The piece from 1976 was written by Letitia Anne Peplau and she wanted to compare results
from a previous experiment done by M.S. Horner in 1972 that measured the fear if success on women
s achievement to her own experiment on the same topic. Horner suggests that many women are in
conflict about intellectual and professional achievement (Peplau, 1976). Peplau wanted to compare
Horner s results to her own results when it concerned women s sex role attitudes of traditionalism and
liberalism. The goal was to see if there was a difference in the fear factor of success between the two
ideologies of dating women when they were on their own and when they were with their partners. She
also wanted to see if the fear of success was correlated differently to competition against

The Importance Of Diversity In Post-Secondary Schools
As teacher I look forward to teaching in the DMPS area because of the diversity within these schools.
One of the school s I would like to teach at is East High School. East is located on 14th street near
downtown. It is literally in the middle of the city and because of its location the students there come
from all kinds of ethnic, culture, and economic backgrounds. One of the mission statements for this
school is Using research based strategies, along with high expectations, to increase student
achievement and prepare students for post secondary education and/or the world of work. Though I
agree with somethings in this mission statement I also disagree with much of it as well. I do not agree
with including that the school looks to prepare

William Edward Burghardt. B. Dubois, Marcus Garvey And...
From the obscure period of slavery, those with darker skin was taught to hate themselves in order for
the Whites to obtain economical gain. Their goal was to break Blacks of their rich heritage and spirit
in order to control them as they would with domesticated cattle. This philosophy transcended from
generation to generation to where it was instilled into their processes of thought and their way of life.
Whites have taunted Blacks attempting to belittle their character, squander their self confidence, and
brand them the infamous word nigger . While some carried oppression on their shoulders, a selected
few rose above the negativity and began to spread self love, self efficiency and the rise of black power.
Black became beautiful and the process of dehumanization was being reversed. W.E.B. Dubois,
Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X were a few of the candidates that advocated for the Pan African
movement.
William Edward Burghardt (W.E.B.) Dubois was born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts in 1868. As
a child, he did not have much experience with racism. He completed high school at the young age of
16 and went on to attend Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee where Dubois experienced racism
and segregation for the first time. He then went to Berlin to earn a second B.A. and then became the
first African American to earn a doctorates degree from Harvard University in 1895. While at Harvard
University, he wrote a doctoral dissertation named The Suppression of the African

The Effects Of Alcohol And Alcoholism On The United Kingdom
Alcohol is defined by Wester Dictionary as a drink (as whiskey or beer) containing ethanol.
Alcoholism is defined by the medical dictionary as a chronic progressive potentially fatal
psychological and nutritional disorder associated with excessive and usually compulsive drinking of
ethanol and characterized by frequent intoxication leading to dependence on or addiction to the
substance, impairment of the ability to work and socialize, destructive behaviors (as drunken driving),
tissue damage (as cirrhosis of the liver), and severe withdrawal symptoms upon detoxification.

A brief history about both the countries and drinking habits:
Several Native American civilizations developed alcoholic beverages in pre Columbian times. A
variety of fermented beverages from the Andes region of South America were created from corn,
grapes or apples, called chichi, written in an article by Drug Free World organization (A Drug Free
World, P.1). From the beginning of America there has always been alcohol/alcoholism. Drinking also
has shaped the land in the 1700s and 1800s. Most areas of social life was at the gin mill or tavern.
Experts say that the Revolution from England beginnings started in a tavern. Then The nineteenth
century brought a change in attitudes and the temperance movement began promoting the moderate
use of alcohol which ultimately became a push for total prohibition, said Drug Free World (A Drug
Free World, P.1). Today alcohol is widely accepted as well as demonized at the same time for those
who drink it before the legal age.
The U.K. has a vast history of drinking from Medieval times to the present. Most notably were these
events... By the end of the middle ages, most European nations had developed their own distinctive
brewing and distilling styles. Throughout this period up until the 17th century, alcohol was still widely
praised, especially by the Church, which was at that time the arbiter of morality. said A Drug Free

Life In The Trenches Narrative Essay
It s been three days since my regiment was sent to fight in the trenches on the Western Front of this
Two Front War or more befittingly, The War to End All Wars . When we arrived, we were greeted with
open arms by British Soldiers that called us Doughboys . A few soldiers happily showed us around the
trenches and warned us about the high water level and mud, explaining how it can lead to vile trench
feet . The soldiers also warned us of the danger that is German poison gas attacks and how we should
always have a gas mask on hand. Finally, we were all given rations, a few trench arts that some
soldiers made in their spare time, and a speech that still resonates with me. A young British sergeant
stood up on a stool and told us that he believes that we can finally end the stalemate with the Germans
and stick it to their pig of a leader, Kaiser Willhelm II. I then retired to a loathsome barrack filled with
lice, mice, and flies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I hurriedly equipped myself with a gas mask, trench knife, and rifle. I ran out of the barracks and was
immediately met with orders to support from the rear line trench. I remember being amazed at how
fast everything was prepared in response to the attack, hundreds of men were already fighting, and the
machine guns were already mounted and manned. I remember also being shocked by the chaos on the
battlefield, it was nothing like how it was in training. Grenades were flying and shrapnel was being
launched everywhere, accompanied by the onslaught of bullets coming from both sides. No one dared
to go over the top and charge into the mine and barbed wire ridden No Man s Land, having it to where
no progress was being made by both sides. We were sitting ducks, and I could ve sworn that I heard
the whizzing of planes above me, ready to bomb us at any moment, but luckily there was no such air
raid to end us all. Just hours of incessant gunfire and

An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Essay
Left to an End in An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.
People need to realize that their actions could lead to bigger problems. For example, if one would rob
a bank, they face the consequence of being caught and going to jail for their whole life. That is exactly
what Peyton Farquhar faced in An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge. Peyton wants to go North, hoping
for an opportunity. However, the problem is getting over the Owl Creek Bridge, where he has to prowl
his way out of the bridge and get past the soldiers surrounding it to finally get North. In his story An
Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, Ambrose Bierce uses the Owl Creek Bridge and the water under the
bridge to represent death.
In the story, the bridge shows a transition from imagination to reality. Peyton Farquhar was trying to
get back to his family as he was running away from the soldiers he got caught by at ... Show more

The bridge is the transition because he goes from being by the bridge to finally getting to his family.
The author states, Doubtless, despite his suffering, he had fallen asleep while walking, for now he sees
another scene perhaps he has merely recovered from his delirium (Bierce 6). Thinking he actually
passed out, Peyton actually had a transition from being in his mind to reality. He woke up from his
imagination and is hoping a close path to his family. As he pushes open the gate and passes up the
wide white walk, he sees a flutter of female garments; his wife, looking fresh and cool and sweet...
(Bierce 6). This scene shows that he finally got to his wife and is about to hug her. However, he dealt
through all of this to just go in another transition. As he went to hug his wife, imagination turns to
reality again and he is actually left hanging on the Owl Creek Bridge. This links with the claim due to
the two transitions from the bridge actually leading Farquhar to his tragic

The Challenges of the “Real” and Depth in Maus Essay
The Postmodernist movement begun after World War II in which, high and low culture are
questionable in the view of society and Art. The postmodernist movement in literature creates a new
set of ideals for fiction, such as the metafiction, the fable like representation in novels, the pastiche,
irony, and satire. Fredric Jameson speaks about the movement and its theory in his essay
Postmodernism and Consumer Society . He questions postmodernism in society as it creates the new
societal norm of popular culture. On the other hand, Jean Baudrillard analyzes the simulacra of
postmodernism in The Precession of Simulacra . Baudrillard speaks of the truth and reality also as a
questionable representation for the reader. Yet, both critics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The authoritative viewpoint symbolizes the reliable and the unreliable narrator, which shows the
difference between the truth and the false (1558) in a postmodernist fiction. With this said, the
true/reliable point of view in a postmodernist text is an immense fragmentation and privatization of
modern literature its explosion into a host of a distinct private styles and mannerism foreshadows
deeper and more general tendencies in social life as a whole (Jameson 1849). It is normal for a
postmodern text to have a hidden viewpoint as it creates the complexity of the narrative, and portrays
depth within the fiction. Art Spiegelman s Maus II: And Here My Troubles Began presents itself as
having an authoritative point of view on page 25, with the split panels depicting the present and past.
On the left side panel, we have the present illustrating Vladek and Art s relationship and the retelling
of Vladek s journey of survival in the Holocaust. However, on the right side we have the depiction of
the concentration camp through Vladek s accounts (Spiegelman 25). The break of the panels shows
the present relationship of father and son contrast to the loneliness of Vladek in the past during hard

Rebel Without A Cause Pop Culture
Midterm paper: Pop Culture: Sex, Drugs, Rock Roll. Rebel Without a Cause led way to the first on
screen teenage bad boy. James Dean plays a disgruntled teenager (Jim) is unsatisfied with life and the
patriarchy of following the rules. He hates that his dad lets his mom run the household and caters to
her versus the traditional father makes all the rules stance. Rebel Without a Cause allows for a deep
consideration of what the stereotypical 1950s teenager felt. The movie looks at teenage relationships
with the older generation and exclaims the disdain both parties share for one another during the
tremulous coming of age time. Jim s parents are not sure how to raise him the best way, and he loses
respect for them judging on how they interact with him and each other. The other main teenage
characters within the film are Judy portrayed by Natalie Wood, and John Plato Crawford portrayed by
Sal Mineo. Natalie Wood s character is probably reminiscent of what many young female teenagers
went through at the time. She deals with gender issues and must find her way as a developing young
woman when her parents seem clueless to her concerns and struggles. Her father does not know how
to guide her through this next stage of life and instead turns her away which causes her to feel bad
about herself. Her Mother has no real clue on how to help either of them as well. Plato is also a
striking character within the story that is utterly confused and has no real guidance in life. All three

The History Of Pop Art As An Art Movement
Pop Art is an art movement that started sometime during the 1950 s and 60 s, it is said that it emerged
first in the United Kingdom and slowly made its way to the United States. It incorporates popular
everyday symbols such as Disney, Coca Cola, McDonalds or any other company conglomerate.
Before pop art, art was being held to some crazy standards such as that an art piece had to be unique,
one of a kind ,deeply contemplative or philosophical; however, people argued that this made art highly
elitist and inaccessible to the masses. America during the 1950 s was in an era where film, television,
advertisements and mass produced imagery on magazines, comic books and news stands which
allowed for these images to be burned into the collective conscious minds of your average American
because of these media. The American culture undoubtedly began to be shaped by celebrities,
consumer products and huge corporate brands. Artists of this time recognized this trend and wanted to
reflect this newly developed reality and began to highlight the mass production and sensational nature
of the mainstream media. Take the famous pop art artists himself, Andy Warhol, for example, making
multiple copies of the same photograph over and over or Claes Oldenburg s overt larger than life
depictions of decadence and food consumption. Whether these artists did it intentionally or not, they
called into question many of the established values of art. Pop artists also brought attention to how

While this was a promotion, Clendenin was head of a small group with no formal authority, no

However Clendenin leveraged his position as a secretary to the multinational steering committee, and
eventually when members returned to their organizations with productivity improvement agendas they
realized that Clendenin group could complete these projects better than they could (and also more

More opportunities for Clendenin s group meant more headcount, but it was not always easy to get
members of the multinational committee to agree to fund anything beyond computer systems

To address the animosity and friction generated when MDC s budget was increased, Clendenin tried to

Essay about The Symbol of the Heart in The Floating Opera
The Symbol of the Heart in The Floating Opera
The heart is the dominant symbol in The Floating Opera, more important even than the symbol of the
showboat of the novel s title. From beginning to end the book is richly populated by references to the
heart on both a literal, physical level, and a figurative, symbolic one. In the first case, literal references
are made to Todd s heart condition. In the second case, the heart plays two symbolic roles; not only
does it serve as a symbol of Todd s emotional and non rational side, but the frailty of Todd s heart
serves as a correlative for the fragility of all human life. This paper will examine several examples
from The Floating Opera that demonstrate this multi levelled usage of the ... Show more content on

This example is typical of the double nature of the heart in the work.
One of the most striking and sustained examples of the heart s dual function is found in the chapter, A
raison de coeur . Here Todd explains his reasons for paying his hotel bill and reregistering every day.
Todd says, I have an excellent reason for not doing so, but it is a raison de coeur, if I may say so a
reason of the heart and not of the head. 4 In one sense, Todd s decision is prompted by the physical
reality of his medical circumstance; he writes, Each soft beat my sick heart beat might be my sick
heart s last 5, and also:
Having begun this sentence, I may not live to write its end ... having poured my drink, I may not live
to taste it ... [or it] may pass a live man s tongue to burn a dead man s belly ... having slumbered I may
never wake ... having waked, may never living sleep this for thirty five years has been the condition of
my existence, the great fact of my life. 6
This is a clear example of the two fold nature of the heart in the book. Not only is the physical impact
of Todd s heart malady emphasised, but the role of his ailed heart as a symbol for the weakness and
uncertainty

Argument For Universal Health Care

for allHave you ever been severely sick to the point that you want to cry? Worse, have you been so
incredibly sick but unable to go to see the doctor for medical attention because you don t have medical
insurance? Unfortunately, the lack of health insurance is the harsh reality that many Americans are
faced with. In the United States, dozens of Americans go without medical attention each year
primarily because they cannot afford the cost of coverage. Numerous Americans believe that all
people should have the right to universal healthcare. The right to Universal healthcare should be given
to all Americans, it could save lives, improve quality of life and promote the idea of a just
society.Universal healthcare is much debated in the U.S. and one view is that if granted, Americans
will overuse this right and abuse the privilege. The thoughts of many regarding free healthcare in the
U.S. is that people will overuse simply because they do not have to worry about the cost. The
argument that free of any financial responsibility, will lead to careless use and abuse of the service is a
common idea amongst the people. Some examples of misuse of medical treatment would be taking
medications when they are not necessary or even going to see a medical provider when you are not
actually sick.

Sexual Orientation By Simon De Bevour s The Second Sex Essay
The subject of sexual orientation has drawn consideration of the women s activist studies with
the production of Simon de Bevour s The Second Sex (1949) and her strong
affirmation that one is not conceived a lady: but instead gets to be one (cited in
Freedman, 13 14). This has driven women s activist commentators to a refinement between
physiological and social personalities of ladies. The term sex came to be
comprehended to allude to the organic body called ladies; while, sexual orientation came
to be broadly perceived as social, social and chronicled development of the said
organic body. In this manner, sex and sexual orientation started to be likened individually with
what we regularly comprehend to be female and ladylike . More or less, all
the parts and conduct, being the social developments in view of the organic
class of ladies, have been consolidated inside of the domain of the term sexual orientation .
Tennessee Williams composed A Streetcar Named Desire (Streetcar) around the time an inversion was
happening in American culture. Williams was a gay person from the profound south of America, and
his play is about physical, passionate and sexual clash. Stanley, the male lead in Streetcar, is a savage
and severe representation of the male inside of American culture amid this period; he exhibits total
control of his family unit, including his wife. He is alluded to as brutish and is bestial in his manner
and his wishes. Indeed,

Different Types of Nuclear Energy Essay
As a source of energy, nuclear energy provides a safer alternative, for the production of energy for
large scale consumption. There are two different types of nuclear energy; nuclear fission and nuclear
fusion. Nuclear fission is the process in which a nucleus spits into two or more smaller nuclei. Nuclear
fusion is the process in which two nuclei fuse together to form a larger nuclei. Nuclear reactors can
become unstable creating an uncontrollable nuclear reaction. The effects of this can be seen in
Chernobyl. Reactors have been designed safer after this disaster.

The energy produced by the fission of uranium provides heat which turns water into steam which then
turns the turbines, generating electricity. Nuclear reactors are becoming a more common source of
electricity with 77% of France s electricity coming from nuclear reactors. It s both safer and easier to
build thermal reactors. Most nuclear reactors are now thermal reactors. A nuclear reactor s main
components are the fuel rods; the control rods; the moderator and the coolant. These components are
all found in the reactor s core. Enriched fuel is placed in airtight rods, these are called the fuel rods.
The moderator is the material that is found around the fuel and control rods. The coolant absorbs
excess heat produced by the fission process in the reactor. Nuclear reactors are generally enclosed in a
thick, airtight concrete and steel vessel. This protects those outside from the large quantities of gamma
radiation given off.
Nuclear energy is the most efficient source of energy, producing 20 million times more energy than
fossil fuels. Nuclear fusion creates more electricity than nuclear fission but needs temperatures of 20
million degrees. Nuclear reactors create nuclear waste as well as electricity. This nuclear waste takes
centuries to become safe. Klaus Rolf, a member of Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany, believes he
can make radioactive waste safe in decades instead of centuries. Rolf claims to have cult the half life

The Dedication Of Abigail Williams And Elizabeth Proctor
Amber Chan American Lit I Ms. Crimmel March 6, 2015 The Dedication of Abigail Williams and
Elizabeth Proctor Arthur Miller creates many unforgettable characters in his play, The Crucible, to
depict the historical events of the Salem witch trials. Although there are many other influential
characters in the town of Salem that cause major events to happen during the trials and are eventually
subject to their consequences, two women were most prominent. As a young, manipulative, vengeful,
jealous, and selfish liar, Abigail Williams feels that she has superiority over everyone and uses this
mindset to accomplish her malicious intentions. Elizabeth Proctor portrays a virtuous, selfless, and
forgiving housewife who can often be cold towards people but still has the courage to face the people
after finding out about her husband, John Proctor s, sin of committing adultery. Despite the numerous
hardships they overcome throughout the play, both women continue to prove their determination
towards achieving their respective goals. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller shows the true dedication of
Abigail Williams and Elizabeth Proctor through their love for John Proctor, realization of their role in
the witch trials, and their influence on their surroundings. Although there are countless differences
between Abigail Williams and Elizabeth Proctor, something they share is their love for John Proctor.

Moreover, I believe that the company should consider filtrating more international markets around the
world. Furthermore, I also believe that their opportunity to expand their online retail outlet would
provide substantial benefits to the financial reports overall. The expansion of their E commerce
initiatives will allow the company to target populations without having to establish physical locations
in those areas. Forbes Magazine (2015) Abercrombie international store is about 85% more productive
than a domestic store (in terms of revenue per square feet), which clearly indicates that stores in
lucrative international markets are good option for the company.
One of the biggest threats to Abercrombie Fitch is the price disparity between their products and those
of their competitors. Additionally, those company such as Wal Mart, Target, Amazon.com and other
larger retailers are now selling products that are similar in design and material, at a much cheaper cost
to the consumer. Additionally, the threat of counterfeit products that are produced in countries such as
China has also reduced the market share of the company.
Additionally, the economic conditions where the company operates is another threat that must be

  • 2. Ethnic Differences Between South And Valley The race or ethnicity of the students in valley are very different from my home school South. Here at valley there are mixed race/ethnicity and at my home school their are mostly white people and less of other different type of race. At South the most common spoken language is English and like ta Valley people can speak different language. The only thing that South and Valley do that are common is the involvement of parents. At South we call it parent night,CCR conferences which CCR stands for (college career readiness). We go to it every Friday and what we do is talk about college, our goals, our grades, and than when we are ready we have a conferces that our parents have to go. At Valley we have exhibition which parents are welcome to come ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Brief Note On Arthritis And Its Effects On The Body Jacob Hunnicutt MED 2047 Gouty Arthritis Instructor: Michelle Earixson Lamothe 3/16/15 VNFT031 Gouty arthritis, more commonly known as gout, is a very painful condition that primarily affects the joints especially those of the great toe, ankles, wrist, and fingers. Gout is most commonly seen in men, particularly those between the ages of 40 and 50 (Bradford, 2014 ). Gout is not a disease that is new to society; it has been around for centuries. The first recorded incidence of gout was in Egypt in 2640 BC, to the Egyptians gout was called podagra (Nuki, 2006). Gout is highly linked to one s diet and in history gout was known to affect the affluent population more than any other. Humans are the only living organisms that seem to have the problem of gout. The reason this is so is most likely due to the fact that in other organisms, such as reptiles, fish, dogs, have an enzyme, uricase, that is responsible for the breakdown of uric acid. The leading cause of gout is due to the ineffective metabolism of purines. When purines are ingested in the body it is converted into urate. Gout leads to hyperuricemia, which is high blood uric acid levels. For a person who ingests a normal and balanced amount of purines, the body is able to handle it and filter it out of the body via the kidneys. If a person has a decreased function of their kidneys their chances of getting gout, alongside many other things, significantly increases. The kidneys are responsible for ... • 4. Ductus Deferens Research Paper Ductus deferens The ductus deferens (otherwise known as the vas deferens) is a structure found in the male reproductive system. There are two ductus deferens and they are identical in their structure and function. The primary function of the ductus deferens is to store and transport sperm to the ejaculatory duct, connecting the epididymis, merging into the urethra pushing it forward and allowing the sperm to exit the body. The ductus deferens are designed for this function, characterised by thick muscular walls, which perform peristalsis. The inside wall consists of a moist folded layer of mucous membrane, which is further surrounded by three layers of circular and longitudinal muscle fibres. At the end of the ductus deferens are the ampulla, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The skin of the scrotum becomes wrinkled due to the underlying dartos muscle. The testes must be kept at temperature that is lower than 3oC, so that spermatogenesis can occur. The scrotum uses a muscle (the cremaster muscle) to achieve this. When the cremaster muscle shrinks, the testes move closer to the scrotum, and this increases the temperature of them. They can also be cooled down by dilating and moving away from the testes, dropping them in temperature. The testes receive their blood flow from the anterior and posterior scrotal artery. The venous blood flows through the testicular veins and then into the vena cava. Another function of the testes is to protect the testes from injury, hence why one testis hangs lower than the other, to avoid compression in the event of impact. Testes (Male gonads) The testes are two ovular organs found in the male reproductive system. They are held in place by a spermatic cord, which is a collection of vessels, nerves and ducts that run from more than one part of the testes. The testes function to create the hormone testosterone; a primary male sex hormone which generates the production of sperm. The seminiferous tubules which are located in the testes are responsible for the production of sperm cells, and the sperm made in this process line the tubules until they reach maturity and are released into the lumen of the seminiferous tubule. • 5. The Gnp Should Support A Second Independence Referendum The GNP should support a second independence referendum in Glebeland because the call for a second independence referendum would bring benefit to this country. Different from its name, the United Kingdom, instead of using federalism, is a unitary state. Even though Glebeland has its own culture and language, being a member country of the United Kingdom, it only enjoys limited power delegated from the central government of the United Kingdom. Because of the diversity in culture, Glebeland needs a higher level of decentralization. If this time the independence referendum would succeed, the Glebeland would become an economically as well as politically independent entity and could go back to the European Union as it wishes. If it would fail as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through this process with a slippery slope, Glebeland is able to gain more power than other member countries. The continuous increase in power could prepare Glebeland s government to become an independent government in the future. The condition of Glebeland s power gaining process is similar to the condition of Scotland s, which occupies 54 seats in the House of Commons. The legislative bargaining offers Scotland a chance to continuously earn more power under the asymmetric power devolution of the United Kingdom. Followed by the establishment of the Scottish parliament in 1977, the Scottish National Party (SNP) became one of the largest parties in the UK in 1999, and then held power in the Scottish general election in 2007. The power gaining process of Glebeland is parallel to the process of Scottish. Thus, similar to the Scottish government, Glebeland s government is getting more prepared to lead an independent nation. It is true that one cannot eliminate the possibility that the second independence referendum would fail again. However, with the slippery slope of the power gaining process, this second referendum could still help Glebeland s government bargain for more power with the central government even if it turns out to have a No result. Consequently, it could ensure Glebeland a higher degree of autonomous power. Centralization Is Not Superior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Temporomandibular Asymmetry The relevance of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) to malocclusion become a hot issue in recent years. TMDs is a collective complex term for a group of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions which includes several clinical signs and symptoms involving the muscles of mastications, temporomandibular joint, and associated structures (Manfredini et al., 2010; Ferreira et al., 2013). The displacement of mandible can influence the modeling process of the TMJ, leading to asymmetry. Eventhough a small amount of asymmetry in the maxillofacial region is common, there is a critical threshold distance that is considered as asymmetric (Masuoka et al., 2007; Chu et al., 2011; Almasan et al., 2103; Kang., 2015). At the same time many authors have shown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The impact for the quality of life because functional problems that related to the role of temporomandibular joint is in the stomatognatic system and also effect the facial appearance, such as facial asymmetry (Serzgin et al., 2007; Khan et al., 2013). In daily practice, posteroanterior cephalogram is used widely in detection of asymmetry mandible that involved skeletal and dentoalveolar component (Pharaoh., 2014) Investigating the connection between morphologically anatomy landmark with sign and symptom of TMDs, has been an interesting question than debating about malocclusion causes TMDs or vice versa. Recent study reported that sign and symptom of TMD as main risk factor in the occurance of mandibulofacial asymmetry (Purbiati et al., 2016). Asymmetry in mandibular usually result in a shift of the chin and 70% of patients with facial asymmetry and chin deviation presented structural and displacement asymmetry, while only 10% showed pure displacement asymmetry and facial askeletal asymmetry was reported exists in patients with chin deviation (Schmid et al., 1991; Hwai et al., ... • 7. Analysis Of The Lost Boy By Dave Pelzer The Lost Boy, written by Dave Pelzer is a heartwarming story of a young nine year old boy, David, who has family issues and is constantly being abused by his mother. Dave Pelzer is a New York Times Bestseller and a #1 International Bestseller. He has written other books such as A Child Called It , My Story, and A Man Named Dave, etc. This is my first story read by this author however, I will read more of his work in the near future. The genre of this book I would say is self help, psychology and inspirational because it sends out such a strong statement of what this young boy and probably many other children are dealing with, in other words, it helps raise awareness. I myself did not imagine to be reading this type of book since I m more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main idea of this book is to show everyone what child abuse and what living in different foster homes is like because most of the time people don t usually talk about this topic due to sensitivity and this book helped everyone realize in a subtle way. I learned that this story isn t just imagined, but it does indeed happen in real life. Children do live in households where the mother or father or whoever treats them unfair and that is what opened up my eyes. One of the parts in the book that I enjoyed the most is towards the end of the book for the reason that earlier in the story, when David first ran away from home he saw a road sign that lead to a lake where him and his family would visit in the past and right then and there he said he was going to live there when he grew up and in the end, his desire came true and he lived in a cabin he made himself by the lake with his son, Stephen. One of my favorite quotes of this story would be on page 303 which says, Years ago, I truly doubted whether I d make it out alive. In my former life I had very little. Today, as I stand in my utopia, I have what any person could wish for a life and the love of my son. Stephen and I are a family. The reason I like this quote is because all his life, David was looking for a family and love and he finally found it. In conclusion, I would most definitely recommend this book because it s very vulnerable and emotional. Right from the beginning it may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Self Observation Of A Self Throughout my self observation, I felt the need to start with a baseline of who I am. Being raised in the south I learned to respect myself and others, but sometimes people are just right down obnoxious. Also, I hold myself to high standards because there s no reason why I cannot make my goals a reality if I give it my all. This is known as Self Concept: The relatively stable set of perceptions you hold of yourself. (Page 63) For example, in my observation I notice my patience level is very thin for people who do not have respect for other s education. There s one girl in particular yesterday, who texted the whole class, which my nursing class is from 8:30am to 2pm. Therefore, as I m trying to listen and highlight in my book, only thing I hear is the sound of her long nails tapping on her keyboard or her phone vibrating. Than during break she wants to ask me for the notes, because the teacher was moving too fast. Since this is still the first couple of weeks of school, I try to be a little more understanding, but I will not do someone s work just for them not to pay attention. Therefore today, when the test came around I had studied my butt off and scored very well. But for the girl that sits next to me, she complained that the test was too hard and how we didn t have the appropriate information to study for the test. In that moment, I found myself comparing our differences, I work hard for my grades. I study and work my butt off then there s those people that don t do anything in class but are the first ones to complain. The book recognized this as Social Comparison: Evaluating ourselves in terms of how we compare with others. (Page 66) Throughout the rest of my day, I noticed I compare myself to a lot of different people without even noticing. Like when I was driving home I saw all these people texting and driving, and I just could not help thinking like what the heck, I can t even look to the side without going into the other line so how in the world are they texting! I do not compare myself to other to prove whose better but I believe it just natural to compare others to yourself. Transparency And Transparency Of Government Transparency in Government To address transparency issues, adequate transparency within government must be ensured; and transparency and accountability should be promoted within democratic governance. Florida leads the country in providing public access to government meetings and records. Florida State leaders believe in the notion that government should be held accountable to the citizens. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis D. (Brandeis, 1914) Government transparency means placing all financial and public information online in an easy to use, readily understandable system. A transparent system is important, because it allows taxpayers to see clearly how public servants are spending tax money, and it also gives citizens the ability to hold their elected officials accountable. Transparency in government is not a new issue. John Adams, 2nd president of the United States, wrote, Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people, who have a right and a desire to know. With this support for the work of intellectuals dedicated to science, the Royal Society promoted a network of individuals with which those with new ideas could cooperate, correspond, and debate. This function of the Royal Society deeply impacted both the creation and the dissemination of Isaac Newton s ideas. Indeed, before the Principia, Newton was reluctant to publish his mathematical or scientific works, opting instead to perfect and disseminate his discoveries by corresponding with other intellectuals. Before pop art, art was being held to some crazy standards such as that an art piece had to be unique, one of a kind ,deeply contemplative or philosophical; however, people argued that this made art highly elitist and inaccessible to the masses. America during the 1950 s was in an era where film, television, advertisements and mass produced imagery on magazines, comic books and news stands which allowed for these images to be burned into the collective conscious minds of your average American because of these media. Essay about The Symbol of the Heart in The Floating Opera The Symbol of the Heart in The Floating Opera The heart is the dominant symbol in The Floating Opera, more important even than the symbol of the showboat of the novel s title. From beginning to end the book is richly populated by references to the heart on both a literal, physical level, and a figurative, symbolic one. In the first case, literal references are made to Todd s heart condition. In the second case, the heart plays two symbolic roles; not only does it serve as a symbol of Todd s emotional and non rational side, but the frailty of Todd s heart serves as a correlative for the fragility of all human life. This example is typical of the double nature of the heart in the work. One of the most striking and sustained examples of the heart s dual function is found in the chapter, A raison de coeur . Here Todd explains his reasons for paying his hotel bill and reregistering every day. Todd says, I have an excellent reason for not doing so, but it is a raison de coeur, if I may say so a reason of the heart and not of the head. 4 In one sense, Todd s decision is prompted by the physical reality of his medical circumstance; he writes, Each soft beat my sick heart beat might be my sick heart s last 5, and also: Having begun this sentence, I may not live to write its end ... having poured my drink, I may not live to taste it ... [or it] may pass a live man s tongue to burn a dead man s belly ... having slumbered I may never wake ... having waked, may never living sleep this for thirty five years has been the condition of my existence, the great fact of my life. 6 This is a clear example of the two fold nature of the heart in the book. Not only is the physical impact of Todd s heart malady emphasised, but the role of his ailed heart as a symbol for the weakness and uncertainty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nuclear reactors are becoming a more common source of electricity with 77% of France s electricity coming from nuclear reactors. It s both safer and easier to build thermal reactors. Most nuclear reactors are now thermal reactors. A nuclear reactor s main components are the fuel rods; the control rods; the moderator and the coolant. These components are all found in the reactor s core. Enriched fuel is placed in airtight rods, these are called the fuel rods. The moderator is the material that is found around the fuel and control rods. The coolant absorbs excess heat produced by the fission process in the reactor. Nuclear reactors are generally enclosed in a thick, airtight concrete and steel vessel. This protects those outside from the large quantities of gamma radiation given off. Nuclear energy is the most efficient source of energy, producing 20 million times more energy than fossil fuels. Nuclear fusion creates more electricity than nuclear fission but needs temperatures of 20 million degrees. Nuclear reactors create nuclear waste as well as electricity.
