Kevin Bobo
Hemispheres, by Kevin Bobo, is a piece written for percussion quintet which, as the title implies,
draws from several different cultures music. It borrows from the music of Indonesia, India, Cuba,
Spain, Japan, and parts of West Africa. In my preparation of this piece, learned quite a bit of the
influence that gamelanhad on Bobo s writing of this work. Focusing on the Indonesian inspired
section of this work, Bobo chooses an instrumentation of western percussion instruments that he
thinks most exemplifies a traditional gamelan ensemble. He also composed a melody and
accompaniment that created an atmosphere and feeling similar to that of Indonesian gamelan. With
the goal of having each section connect to one another with a common theme while still having
each represent a different are of the world, Kevin Bobo wrote a piece that makes world musicmore
accessible to the average listener. Indonesian gamelan is performed with more than just a purpose

Gamelan has a lot of defining facets that make it unique from many other genres of global music.
It has spiritual and religious implications and is also played in many state and government
ceremonies. Gamelan has become a very large part of Indonesian culture and has even been
presented as a gift to the government on occasion. Being that many can participate at once,
gamelan connects its players to each other through their shared musical experience. With the
tuning creating a shimmering effect, the music is very alive and even has a sense of breathing
amongst the instruments. Bobo implemented several of these factors into a section of his own
piece and, by doing so, he has made it more accessible and easier to play gamelan in a traditional

вћў FleetCor has not yet settle the final agreements with the seven Super Licensees for acquiring
them, creating some sources of unstable and going concern business ( Suggest: the company should
be more specific and aggressive while dealing with the licenses to make the final agreements.
вћў Higher gas prices result in a larger A/R financing cost and also lead to a higher bad debt
expense, even though the net revenue might still be the same ( Suggest: implement some forms of
hedging strategies against the increases in gas prices such as going long on a call option at a
specific gas price which might materially increase the A/R financing cost and bad debt expenses.
вћў FleetCor currently has weak managerial reporting system ( Suggest: bringing in some more IT
consultants and programmers to create a more effective managerial and financial system while
working along with a CFO who is a financial expert.

A Career As A Teaching Assistant
One of my fondest passions is learning about the human body. I find the inner mechanisms of the
human body to be extremely intriguing the ability for so many intersecting faculties to form a
cohesive, high functioning organism is truly astounding. I am currently majoring in the Honours
Behaviour, Cognition and Neuroscience program at the University of Windsor and throughout my
time studying, I have developed a greater sense of not only the human brain, but the physiological
and biological mechanisms involved throughout the entire body. I have been able to apply this
knowledge throughout my experiences as a teaching assistant for multiple undergraduate courses.

maintain a cumulative average above 80% and 90%, respectively. I strive to work to the best of my
ability in my education, particularly in subjects that I truly find fascinating. Satisfying the
requirements for these awards each year is indicative of my perseverance throughout my education,
despite the many obstacles and stressors that are accompanied with life. Another accomplishment I
take pride in is my increasing contributions to the community. Over the past three years, I have
been pushing myself to associate with clubs and organizations revolving around the community. I

The Relationship Between Keynes And Social Democracy Essay
Keynesianism is an economic theory believed to have been developed and propagated by John
Maynard Keynes, who was a British economist. Keynes postulated that economic growth and
reduced unemployment can be aided via the executive`s fiscal policies inclusive of spending to
reinvigorate the economy, tinkering with interest rates, and appointment of confirmed statutes on
market economics. This theory was developed in the 1930s as a way of better understanding the
Great Depression. Keynes championed for expanded government expenditures and reduced taxes
to energize demand in order to extricate the global economy out of the Depression. Since its
inception Keynesianism was connected to social democratic big government policies. Scholars
like (Barr, 2004) have realised that the relationship between Keynes and social democracy is
more composite than believed. Keynes can be referred to as the draughtsman of the main
elements of social democracy policy especially in regards to full employment but according to
(Skidelsky 2010), he did not believe in the enlargement of the welfare state and public ownership.
Neoliberalism is based on an economic and social policy that is driven by the market and the
reduction of the size of the government and giving more authority to local and state governments.
Neoliberalism advocates for the eradication of regulations imposed on the private sector by the
government, including the privatisation of services provided by the government which include

Jerk Behaviors That Attract Girls Analysis
5 Jerk Behaviors That Attract Girls Part 1
By Joseph Matthews
Mar 14, 2009
It s the age old question every nice guy ends up asking himself at one time or another...
Why do jerks get the women, and me, the good guy, is stuck being alone?
Sometimes, it s easy to believe that Jerks have some type of magical power that allows them to
sucker women into liking them and somehow have them hang around while they treat them like dirt.
This happens SO MUCH, that some guys believe that they actually have to BECOME Jerks to get
women attracted to them.
But make no mistake about it no body likes a jerk. Not even the women who date them! So if that
s the case, why is it obvious that they get so many girls to go for them?
Well, remember that Jerk s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jerks realize it s not the woman s job to approach the guy. If you want something, you have to go
after it.
So if the Nice Guys were to start walking up and talking to women, they might be surprised to find
most women WELCOME their company and really want to meet a good fella to treat them right!
3. Jerk s don t censor themselves
Part of the reason Jerk s come off as fun, interesting, or exciting is because they aren t worried
about offending anybody. They will talk about whatever, joke about whatever, and even broach
sensitive topics of conversation without a blink of an eye.
Too many nice guys hold back when they talk to a girl they like. They NEVER bring up sex.
They don t even joke about it. Heck, they don t even display any sign they even LIKE the girl.
Because of this, the Nice Guys become the Boring Guys.
The Jerk will come along, make an off color joke, tell the girl a racy story, and even MAKE FUN
of the girl!
He could care less if he offends somebody. To the Jerk, he s just doing what comes naturally to
him. Attitude like this is like a breath of fresh air to many women, because they mistake it as

harm associated with illicit opioid consumption. Generally these are sites where drug users can
inject or consume drugs under the observation of trained personal. The first of such consumption

has encouraged jurisdictions across Canada to adopt or contemplate similar systems. In 2017, the
federal government passed Bill C 37 with the aim of streamlining the application process for
communities who wish to operate supervised consumption sites. In Alberta, there are five

Compare And Contrast Dylan Thomas And Because I Could Not...
Two literary pieces, Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night by, Dylan Thomas and Because I
Could Not Stop for Death by, Emily Dickinson are both poems that discuss the topic of death. While
there are some similarities and comparisons between the two poems, when it comes to the themes,
both poets writing styles are quite different from one another which makes each poem unique.
Thomas and Dickinson both use identical figurative language devices and other literature
symbolisms as they explain their main themes which contrasts the differences to the concept of
death. These distinct variations between poems are apparent in both the form, and how the
choice of words is used in the poems. Both of the authors have presented two very different ideas
on death. The poems are well distinguished literature devices, they share minor similarities and
differences between each other and how they present the meaning of death to a toll. In each
poem, the poets share distinct views on the perception of death. While Dickinson s poem,
Because I Could Not Stop for Death, structures her poem to present her central theme of
accepting death peacefully and agreeable. On the other hand, the poem Do Not Go Gentle into
That Good Night by, Dylan Thomas uses rejection and denial in the process to present his poem s
theme. Both narrators distinguish death with detailed words or phrases. For example, in Dickinson
s poem she states, Because I could not stop for Death, he kindly stopped for me (1 2).

My Philosophy Of Pedagogy
Being the science of teaching, pedagogy encompasses the complexity of a teacher s work. Roget
(1997) defines pedagogy as the act, process or art of imparting knowledge and skill (Roget,
1997). This module has developed in me the appropriate pedagogical knowledge and skills and
helped me evolve as a beginner teacher. Since the start of the module, I have discovered many new
dimensions to teaching which has been added to my philosophy of teaching.
The teaching and learning process concerns the teachers and the. Every teacher has a different
teaching approach which makes them unique. Having good pedagogy means that I need to have a
wide range of strategies for me to be able to gain attention of my students for learning to take place.

According to Armstrong (2009) and Fierros (2004), Gardner (1993) described the different learning
styles as multiple intelligences and conveyed that a human being can possess more than one
intelligence. In our classes, there are different students with different learning styles. We have
auditory, visual and kinaesthetic learners among others. The former learn best through hearing of
information and often need to read the written words aloud to enable them remember the key points
in the instruction given. This method is the best way for them to study. For visual learners, they
learn best by seeing what they are being taught and prefer images, graphs or any other visual
representations over other forms of instruction. Visual representations are very important as it gives
students and teachers an overview of what is happening when a topic is taught. Smith (1911) said
for those who teach the subject of imaginary and complex number, there is no other way of
approach that the graphic especially in Mathematics and Sciences where visuals are mostly used.
For kinaesthetic learners, the physical involvement in the learning process is significant. That is,
manipulating items, simulations, role plays and other methods work best for them. The teacher

Tides and the Moon
I was recently tasked with examining the relationship between the Earth s moon and the Earth s
tides. I took that to mean literally: how are the tide levels of Earth s bodies of water affected by
the Moon? When approaching this question I want to do so with the scientific method in mind.
The scientific method refers to a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new
knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge (Goldhaber amp; Nieto, 2010). The
scientific method is a way to ask and answer scientific questions by making observations and
doing experiments. It is also a good tool when we are searching for cause and effect relationships in

Spring tides are about the same height whether at New or Full Moon, because the tidal bulge
occurs on both sides of the Earth, the side toward the Moon (or sun) and the side away from the
Moon (or Sun). They will not be equally high because the distance between the Earth and Sun, and
the Earth and Moon both vary and so will their tide producing effectiveness. The highest Spring
tides occur when the Moon is at its closest to the Earth this is called a Perigean Tide (Ninderthana,
2011).
The moon s point of closest approach or perigee is approximately 362,570 kilometers from
Earth, and its apogee, or the farthest point in the moon s elliptical orbit, is approximately
405,410 kilometers from Earth (Image: 1. p. 7). If the lunar perigee occurs when the Moon is
between the Sun and the Earth, it produces unusually high Spring tides. When lunar perigee
occurs on the opposite side from the Earth than where the Sun is located it produces unusually
low, Neap Tides (Image: 2. p. 7). The high, High Tide is called the Proxigean Spring Tide, and it
occurs not more than once every 1.5 years (Ninderthana, 2011).
In the published work by Fergus J. Wood, Tidal Dynamics, Wood stated that, because of the
gravitational nature of the interaction between the Earth, the Moon, and the water on the Earth,
there is a curious amplification event called evection that occurs when the Moon is at its closest
perigee distance called its proxigee . The Moon draws even closer to the Earth than

Dehumanization In If This Is A Man By Primo Levi
In the book If This Is a Man , Primo Levi shows us what life within the Nazi concentration camp is.
As the book title indicates, the book focuses on the underestimated delicateness of the human
condition, ...learnt that our personality is fragile (61) and how the Nazis used oppression to destroy
what makes us human. Levi, throughout the book uses characterization in portraying the
dehumanization that occurred within the camp. These acts of dehumanization by the Nazis began
even before Levi and his traveling companions set foot into the camp. The killing of Jews who got
off one side of the train, especially the children were seen as a historical necessity by the Germans
and it began the dehumanization of the Jews entering the camp, that would later be reinforced by
the removal of personal items which helped remove the defining characteristics of each person.

The Effect of Education on Economic Growth
The Effect of Education on Economic Growth
Abstract
Education is one of the primary factors of development. Countries can t achieve economic
development without investment in human capital. Vocational training and higher education equip

This function is not accurate because it doesn t take into account the quality or type of education an
individual has. Human capital is also an important variable in the variation wage function which is
hard to measure too. Human capital includes some feature such as education, work experience, and
health. To estimate human capital, scholars Suggested quantitative measures of quality include
costs per student, library expenditures, number of earned doctorates among Faculty and
administrators, and student faculty ratios. However, this estimation of human capital is not
accurate too. Some scholars argue pupil teacher ratio is alternative measure of resources invested in
education which measure the quantity of education but not the quality. Further more, some research
didn t use the system approach (input, throughputs, and output.) which made some scholar to
believe it underestimate the effect of education spending by failing to observe the possible indirect
effect on economic growth. All these inaccurate measures and disagreements make it difficult to
compare the findings of empirical studies to determine how strong the effect of investment in
human capital to promote growth rates of the economy, but macroeconomists in many research
stressed the importance of education to promote growth.

why people, states or countries may not take education seriously. Pakistan is one country that has the
most restrictions on education towards women. Malala Yousafazi is a young girl activist that stood

There are many countries where culture or religion can sometimes deny certain peoples right to

countries that do such restrictions of education is Pakistan. In the country of Pakistan, some

But believe that we would somehow become a communist state over night. Somehow the
liberties we take for granted would become the reason people would fight for the wrongness of

actions. If we did this there would be no need for the government to regulate our lives in such
ways as banning the things that allow for self expression. And even though violence may or may
not touch our lives sometimes daily there is no reason keep those that like the blood and guts

understand that taking away such rights to play these games would cause chain reaction of
government control of not only what is played but viewed and voiced. I believe if we are able to

But if we do then we are prepared for the consequences. In being prepared we teach our children not

Traveling Through The Dark And Woodchucks Analysis
Exploring the interaction between animals and humans, the poems Traveling through the Dark and
Woodchucks both analyze this relationship with unique insightfulness. William Stafford, the author
of Traveling through the Dark, depicts an accidental encounter with a dead deer on the road, while
Maxine Kumin, the author of Woodchucks, invites the readers to witness a hateful holocaust
against woodchucks. Although focusing on similar topics with regard to human s reaction towards
the death of animals, Traveling through the Dark and Woodchucks display a solid contrast of their
use of syntax, distinguished by the complexity of their language, and the focus of their main
themes, which reveals the two author s different attitudes on men and the nature. To begin with,
Stafford applies relatively simple grammatical structures and sentence types, while in contrast
Kumin uses complex syntax as the major attribute of his poem. In Traveling through the Dark,
Stafford depicts a scenario involving a man encountering a dead animal in the darkness, as he
writes that Traveling through the dark I found a deer / dead on the edge of the Wilson River road,
a simple statement that directly contextualizes the scenario that the narrator discovered a dead deer
on the road (1 2). In specific, the sentences in the poem lack complicated layers of grammatical
structure, but instead their composition style is close to colloquial, evident by statements like I
found a deer and I dragged

A Developed Country As The Most Socially Progressive States
Also, I would prefer to focus on a developed country as the most socially progressive states have
the most influence in the global market and are often compared with the United States. Ireland,
an island of 27000 square miles and a population of 4.6 million is ranked 6th in HDI as of 2014,
proves to have a high degree of development, on par with Germany and ahead of the US (at 8th).
This is reflected in Irelands healthy social progress and economic efficiency. The GDP per capita

the Vikings. They plundered some of the newfound riches and treasures but also established
Dublin and many other important cities, such as Wexford, Waterford, Cork, and Limerick. This
control by the vikings ended around 1200 when the Normans (from modern day France) invaded

American Farms Great Again Is The Motto For Burlington...
Research Paper
Make American farms great again is the motto for Burlington Robotics. Autonomous means:
controlled by a computer without a need for human intervention. United States farmers compete
globally for market share and Burlington Robotics wants to provide the machines needed to reach
the greatest potential. The next revolution in farming will be autonomous farming. Bet the Farm,
Best Robotics game for 2016 is a great example of the changes that are occurring in agriculture.
Farmers concerns with the autonomous tractor revolution include: safety, command and control,
laborers, efficiency and cost.
Safety
Autonomous farming could reduce farm accidents. According to the United States Department of
Labor approximately 300 fatalities occur each year due to vehicular incidents on the farm.
Autonomous farm machinery could decrease these numbers. Make an automated farm a safer place
with Vantage (copyright) obstacle detection and avoidance. Equip robotic farm vehicles with the
ability to see and safely react to unexpected hazards.
The first step in environmental awareness, this specialized LiDAR sensor produces a 3D area
readout that identifies potential obstacles and integrates seamlessly with Vantage.

The Importance Of Personal Income Tax In Texas
I think personal income tax in Texas should not become adopted; I feel it is an immoral thing
towards the state. I am against this because taxing a person from their personal income tax may
leave them with less money to pay their bills with more responsibilities. The personal income tax
is paid by people with the money they earn, and it sounds like a corrupted way of taking away
their hard earned wages. It may feel as though we pay personal income tax, but it is not included in

The Significance of Women in the Play Oedipus Essay
When you say Man, said Oedipus, you include women too. Everyone knows that. She said, That s
what you think. These lines, from the ending of Muriel Rukheyser s poem On Oedipus the King,
Myth, comment on the significance of women both in the play and in society. Though the character
of Oedipussuggests that women are equal, the issue of the true role of women is brought up in the
poem, and is raised in Sophocles play.
The female who plays the largest role in Sophocles play is Oedipus wife and mother, Iokaste. From
the beginning, one can assume that she has little say in the events of her life. As queen of Thebes,
she had little power over the rulings of the kingdom. Furthermore, once news of her husband s death
came ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women have little responsibility in the workings of society and are basically seen as child
bearers. For example, anytime Iokaste is mentioned, the fact that she is the bearer of children
seems to always follow. In the first scene, Oedipus describes how indebted he is to Laios. Now I,
having the power that he held before me, having his bed, begetting children there, upon his wife,
as he would have, had he lived their son would have been my children s brother, if Laios had had
luck in fatherhood! (727) Iokaste is not presented as an actual being; instead, she is described as
Laios property that had come into Oedipus possessionalong with the throne, land, and power. A
similar instance occurs in the third scene when Choragos says, It is this very place, stranger; he is
inside. This is his wife and mother of his children. Instead of presenting Iokaste as the queen of
Thebes, Choragos introduces her as belonging to Oedipus and as the bearer of Oedipus offspring.
The insignificance and expectations of women in society are further presented in the Exodus. In
the Exodus, Oedipus says, As for my sons, you need not care for them. They are men, they will
find some way to live. But my poor daughters, who have shared my table, who never before have
been parted from their father take care of them, Kreon; do this for me. (760) Oedipus also says,?

Growing field of prostitution
There have been many attempts to stop prostitution, but the field is growing more and more.
Prostitution has existed for about 2000 years. Throughout the history of humankind, there were
many attempts to eliminate prostitution, but no one could stop prostitution. Prostitution is one of the
main survival methods for women who don t have income to support themselves. As long as there
is poverty, prostitution will exist forever. Prostitution is not only about women, but also it is about
men. Also, prostitution is related to morality because when it comes to money, people are ready to

Women also turn to prostitution when the society falls down.
Online prostitution is another major type of prostitution. According to Melissa, Kenneth, and
Alexis (2014) prostitution is now a business advertised on the internet, expanding the reach of
pimps to a wider market of potential sex buyers. Women can be sold for 15 minutes or for a week
for someone s sexual use and selected and purchase online like a rental car. Majority of prostitution
today takes place online. Online prostitution provides anonymity for sex buyers and pimps and it
eliminates jurisdictional boundaries since internet content can be accessed and published anywhere.
For example, four United States criminal cases from 2011 illustrate organized criminals
commitment to the use of online technologies for trafficking. Nine men from the Gambino
organized crime family in New York were convicted and sentenced for sex trafficking, murder,
racketeering, extortion, and wire fraud. The men trafficked young women for sexual use by
advertising their prostitution on Craigslist. The trafficked women are offered to gamblers in the
Mafia s high stakes poker businesses.
Child prostitution is another main types of prostitution in developing countries. According to
Kropiwnicki and Zosa Olenka De Sas (2012) child prostitution should be seen in light of the
global exploitation of child labor, because children are not capable of making such a choice and
cannot therefore be

Light In Beowulf
Beowulf is a great book to read if you are interested in the differences between dark and light
inside of you. The purpose of the book really tells you about how you can defeat the evil and use
good in a good way to help others. As of Beowulf he used his weaknesses from evil and overcame
them for good. So what the statement of the book is to really tell you that you should use good and

admitting them they become strengths. This is no usual hero. page.29 As Beowulfhad made the best

himself but for other without being asked, like when he fought off Grendel, Grendel s Mother,

between the darkness of Grendel to the good in Beowulf. Also I think the author used the
background of the scene of the story to get the reader s idea of how the story is to make it feel

A Hanging By George Orwell Essay
A Hanging By George Orwell
A Reflective Essay on the Short Story A Hanging by George Orwell
The short story A Hanging by George Orwell illustrates the experience and intrigues surrounding the
hanging of a Hindu prisoner in Burma. Orwell dwells on the inhuman nature of capital punishment
and how the hangmen disregard the dignity of human life to commit a prisoner to the gallows.
Unarguably, the purpose of this non fiction story is to persuade the readers of the horrifying
injustice of subjecting a convict to the death penalty. As this reflective paper shall present,
throughout the short story, the author intelligently uses irony and sarcasm to manipulate the mood
of the audience thereby convincing the readers of his criticism of capital punishment and the
barbaric administration of justice in the Burma prisons.
To begin with, Orwell is explicitly against any administration of capital punishment on convicts. He
describes capital punishment as not only mysterious and unjustified, particularly when the

Essay about Refuting Objections to Direct Realism
Refuting Objections to Direct Realism
Introduction
Realism is the form of perception in which it is believed that there is an external world outside
of our own minds. It is the belief that regardless of what we may belief is true of false, the external
world is independent of these beliefs. There are two forms of realism which are direct and indirect.
In this essay I will argue that direct realism is a more plausible theory of perception than indirect
realism by refuting the main arguments against direct realism. I will begin by briefly describing
direct and indirect realism and follow with countering two of the main arguments indirect realists
use against direct realists.
Direct Realism vs. Indirect Realism
Direct Realism is the belief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
P3: It is not possible to perceive all of an object at once, only a section of its exterior surface.
C: We do not directly perceive material objects and therefore direct realism is false.
The issue with this argument lies within the second premise which claims that in order to
perceive an object, all parts must be observed at once. This claim is invalid as perceiving an
object does not require all parts to be observed as once just as reading a book does not require all
pages to be read at once or visiting friends does not require all friends to be visited at once. In the
direct perception of an object we do not see the whole object, however only a section. It is
correct that we may not recognise or identify the object we are perceiving, however it is not true
that in doing this we are not in fact directly perceiving the section of the object exposed for
observation. There is no reason to assume that direct perception does not occur unless every angle
and layer of the object in question is observed and therefore the partial character of perception
argument is invalid.
The Argument from Hallucination
A second argument against direct realism, which is most commonly used, is the argument from
hallucination, as follows ;
P1: Tom sees a green tree
P2: Tom is hallucinating there is no green tree
P3: The tree that Tom sees is not an external material object
P4: The hallucination is extremely detailed and exactly resembles, is identical to, a true

embellishment, suggestion and best practice, the issue no longer impedes further progress from

significantly. As group members now know what changes are being made and how long it will
take to make them, more informed decisions can be made in a shorter time. Finally, these

the sixth heuristic. Although the project manager may find the task of accurately evaluating and
accessing one s productivity and proficiency using the RVCS a bit cumbersome, an
administrative feature can be added to the RVCS to address the issue. A report or database view

The Persuasive Effects Of Energy Boosting Snacks In...
Having energy to get through the day is often the battle that college students must fight and
overcome to be successful. The most common energy booster students go for is a coffee, but the
caffeine intake can cause a reverse effect, if taken in large amounts over time. Also, quickly
digesting certain carbohydrates, such as sweet beverages and candy can give off a quick hit of

However, there are some snacks that help increase energy and can keep those on the go

Food with zero or no additives at all are the main the building block when looking for healthy,

In this paper, I will cover ethical issues within the pharmaceutical industry, present opinion on
Direct to Consumer marketing by drug companies, determine the parties responsible for regulation
of compounding pharmacies, PharmaCARE used U.S. law to protect its own intellectual property,
summarize at least one current example of intellectual property theft, analyze the potential issues
surrounding the death of John s wife, and lastly present major arguments that John can claim as a
whistleblower.
Ethical issues within the pharmaceutical industry PharmaCARE created a wholly owned subsidiary
called CompCARE. This company became PharmaCARE compounding pharmacy to sell the drug
called AD23 to individuals on a prescription basis and also used this company to avoid the Food
and Drug Administration s (FDA) scrutiny. The first problem that I recognize here is the
company appears to have skipped all of the drug testings to determine if there are any problems
with the AD23 drug. Instead the company jump on the idea that this drug might slow the
progression of Alzheimer s disease. But again, there is no medical research on the creation of the
drug and also the research of any tests to support the safety of the drug and also the documentation
of the slowing the progression of Alzheimer s disease. Hence, why they avoided the Food and Drug
Administration s (FDA). Next unethical problem is CompCARE benefited from PharmaCARE s
reputation, databases, networks, and

Effects Of A Solar Eclipse
What is a solar eclipse? What effect might a solar eclipse have on one? A solar eclipse occurs
when the moon passes between the sun and the earth. This makes the sun align behind the moon as
it blocks the sun s beautiful and gleaming rays. When the sun is behind the moon, it seems as if it
is as dark as night and makes the sunlook like a ring of fire high in the sky. During a solar eclipse,
many things can happen that one would be astonished by observing such as, the actual object,
changes in the atmosphere, animals and people s behavior, and emotional and sensual feelings. The
object that appeared in the sky had everyone s attention and concentration, not only that day, but
weeks before. Everyone had been talking about the upcoming solar eclipse. Teachers planned
lessons, and posters lined the walls to inform students of expectations and safety measures. A solar
eclipse, an event appealing to the eye, is an unforgettable phenomenon that can leave someone with
the experience of a lifetime.
On the day of the eclipse, the view of the sun was oddly bright and dim. The sky was as bright as
a sun rise early in a summer s morning. It was so bright I was tempted, yet scared to look at it.
The whole Middleton High School separated to go outside and watch the eclipse in different areas.
The location where we watched the eclipse only allowed us to see the moon partially blocking the
sun. We all saw the sun slowly lose its rays as the moon raced to appear in front. Although the total

Review Of The War On Malaria
THE WAR ON MALARIA
JAYME SWANSON
BALTIMORE CITY COMMUNITY COLLEGE
DR. SAMUEL ODEDOKUN
ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY II
OCTOBER 19, 2014 The War on Malaria
About 3.3 billion people, that is about half of the world s population are at risk of contracting
malaria (figure 1). Every year there are 250 million cases of malaria, and nearly 1 million deaths.
That amounts to 2,732 deaths per day. Out of those million people that die every year, 800,000
of them are African children under the age of 5. To control malaria three actions need to be
taken: insecticides need to be used to decrease the vector population, people have to be educated
as to how to prevent the vector from reproducing, and anti malarial drugs need to be distributed.
To understand the vector and what the vector is, scientists had to first discover what the parasite
was and how it worked. It was not until the year 1880 that French Physician Charles Laveran
discovered that Malaria was caused by a protozoan in the genus Plasmodium (Malaria, 2013)
Figure 1: Malaria endemic areas around the world. Areas where malaria transmission occurs are in
red, places that are at risk and malaria transmission occurs infrequently are in yellow, and places in
grey is where there is no malaria present (Malaria, 2010).
There are four species in the Plasmodium Genus that affect humans: P. falciparum, P. vivax, P.
ovale, and P. malariae. What people did not know then, was how the protozoan got from

Being An Effective Writer
Being an effective writer requires being able to identify your strengths and weaknesses and
what is effective versus what is ineffective with your writing. The first principle to be improved
is being more specific. Sometimes as a writer responding to an email or assignment by writing
too fast can cause the person to miss your initial point in the response and then there will be
another email asking for clarity. This will allow them to comprehend the initial response and take
action if needed or send a thank you in return (Cardon, P., 2013). This leads to my second principle
to critique which is being more accurate with the delivery of the message. The more accurate you
are in the message the more credible you become to the customer, colleagues,

  • 2. Kevin Bobo Hemispheres, by Kevin Bobo, is a piece written for percussion quintet which, as the title implies, draws from several different cultures music. It borrows from the music of Indonesia, India, Cuba, Spain, Japan, and parts of West Africa. In my preparation of this piece, learned quite a bit of the influence that gamelanhad on Bobo s writing of this work. Focusing on the Indonesian inspired section of this work, Bobo chooses an instrumentation of western percussion instruments that he thinks most exemplifies a traditional gamelan ensemble. He also composed a melody and accompaniment that created an atmosphere and feeling similar to that of Indonesian gamelan. With the goal of having each section connect to one another with a common theme while still having each represent a different are of the world, Kevin Bobo wrote a piece that makes world musicmore accessible to the average listener. Being that many can participate at once, gamelan connects its players to each other through their shared musical experience. With the tuning creating a shimmering effect, the music is very alive and even has a sense of breathing amongst the instruments. Bobo implemented several of these factors into a section of his own piece and, by doing so, he has made it more accessible and easier to play gamelan in a traditional western ... Satisfying the requirements for these awards each year is indicative of my perseverance throughout my education, despite the many obstacles and stressors that are accompanied with life. Another accomplishment I take pride in is my increasing contributions to the community. • 5. The Relationship Between Keynes And Social Democracy Essay Keynesianism is an economic theory believed to have been developed and propagated by John Maynard Keynes, who was a British economist. Keynes postulated that economic growth and reduced unemployment can be aided via the executive`s fiscal policies inclusive of spending to reinvigorate the economy, tinkering with interest rates, and appointment of confirmed statutes on market economics. This theory was developed in the 1930s as a way of better understanding the Great Depression. Keynes championed for expanded government expenditures and reduced taxes to energize demand in order to extricate the global economy out of the Depression. Since its inception Keynesianism was connected to social democratic big government policies. Scholars like (Barr, 2004) have realised that the relationship between Keynes and social democracy is more composite than believed. Keynes can be referred to as the draughtsman of the main elements of social democracy policy especially in regards to full employment but according to (Skidelsky 2010), he did not believe in the enlargement of the welfare state and public ownership. Neoliberalism is based on an economic and social policy that is driven by the market and the reduction of the size of the government and giving more authority to local and state governments. Neoliberalism advocates for the eradication of regulations imposed on the private sector by the government, including the privatisation of services provided by the government which include ... While there are some similarities and comparisons between the two poems, when it comes to the themes, both poets writing styles are quite different from one another which makes each poem unique. Thomas and Dickinson both use identical figurative language devices and other literature symbolisms as they explain their main themes which contrasts the differences to the concept of death. These distinct variations between poems are apparent in both the form, and how the choice of words is used in the poems. Both of the authors have presented two very different ideas on death. The poems are well distinguished literature devices, they share minor similarities and differences between each other and how they present the meaning of death to a toll. In each poem, the poets share distinct views on the perception of death. While Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop for Death, structures her poem to present her central theme of accepting death peacefully and agreeable. On the other hand, the poem Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night by, Dylan Thomas uses rejection and denial in the process to present his poem s theme. The highest Spring tides occur when the Moon is at its closest to the Earth this is called a Perigean Tide (Ninderthana, 2011). The moon s point of closest approach or perigee is approximately 362,570 kilometers from Earth, and its apogee, or the farthest point in the moon s elliptical orbit, is approximately 405,410 kilometers from Earth (Image: 1. p. 7). Traveling Through The Dark And Woodchucks Analysis Exploring the interaction between animals and humans, the poems Traveling through the Dark and Woodchucks both analyze this relationship with unique insightfulness. William Stafford, the author of Traveling through the Dark, depicts an accidental encounter with a dead deer on the road, while Maxine Kumin, the author of Woodchucks, invites the readers to witness a hateful holocaust against woodchucks. Although focusing on similar topics with regard to human s reaction towards the death of animals, Traveling through the Dark and Woodchucks display a solid contrast of their use of syntax, distinguished by the complexity of their language, and the focus of their main themes, which reveals the two author s different attitudes on men and the nature. To begin with, Stafford applies relatively simple grammatical structures and sentence types, while in contrast Kumin uses complex syntax as the major attribute of his poem. In Traveling through the Dark, Stafford depicts a scenario involving a man encountering a dead animal in the darkness, as he writes that Traveling through the dark I found a deer / dead on the edge of the Wilson River road, a simple statement that directly contextualizes the scenario that the narrator discovered a dead deer on the road (1 2). These lines, from the ending of Muriel Rukheyser s poem On Oedipus the King, Myth, comment on the significance of women both in the play and in society. Though the character of Oedipussuggests that women are equal, the issue of the true role of women is brought up in the poem, and is raised in Sophocles play. The female who plays the largest role in Sophocles play is Oedipus wife and mother, Iokaste. From the beginning, one can assume that she has little say in the events of her life. Women have little responsibility in the workings of society and are basically seen as child bearers. For example, anytime Iokaste is mentioned, the fact that she is the bearer of children seems to always follow. In the first scene, Oedipus describes how indebted he is to Laios. Now I, having the power that he held before me, having his bed, begetting children there, upon his wife, as he would have, had he lived their son would have been my children s brother, if Laios had had luck in fatherhood! (727) Iokaste is not presented as an actual being; instead, she is described as Laios property that had come into Oedipus possessionalong with the throne, land, and power. A similar instance occurs in the third scene when Choragos says, It is this very place, stranger; he is inside. This is his wife and mother of his children. Instead of presenting Iokaste as the queen of Thebes, Choragos introduces her as belonging to Oedipus and as the bearer of Oedipus offspring. The insignificance and expectations of women in society are further presented in the Exodus. In the Exodus, Oedipus says, As for my sons, you need not care for them. They are men, they will find some way to live. But my poor daughters, who have shared my table, who never before have been parted from their father take care of them, Kreon; do this for me. Unarguably, the purpose of this non fiction story is to persuade the readers of the horrifying injustice of subjecting a convict to the death penalty. As this reflective paper shall present, throughout the short story, the author intelligently uses irony and sarcasm to manipulate the mood of the audience thereby convincing the readers of his criticism of capital punishment and the barbaric administration of justice in the Burma prisons. Essay about Refuting Objections to Direct Realism Refuting Objections to Direct Realism Introduction Realism is the form of perception in which it is believed that there is an external world outside of our own minds. It is the belief that regardless of what we may belief is true of false, the external world is independent of these beliefs. There are two forms of realism which are direct and indirect. In this essay I will argue that direct realism is a more plausible theory of perception than indirect realism by refuting the main arguments against direct realism. I will begin by briefly describing direct and indirect realism and follow with countering two of the main arguments indirect realists use against direct realists. Direct Realism vs. Indirect Realism Direct Realism is the belief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... P3: It is not possible to perceive all of an object at once, only a section of its exterior surface. C: We do not directly perceive material objects and therefore direct realism is false. The issue with this argument lies within the second premise which claims that in order to perceive an object, all parts must be observed at once. This claim is invalid as perceiving an object does not require all parts to be observed as once just as reading a book does not require all pages to be read at once or visiting friends does not require all friends to be visited at once. In the direct perception of an object we do not see the whole object, however only a section. It is correct that we may not recognise or identify the object we are perceiving, however it is not true that in doing this we are not in fact directly perceiving the section of the object exposed for observation. There is no reason to assume that direct perception does not occur unless every angle and layer of the object in question is observed and therefore the partial character of perception argument is invalid. The Argument from Hallucination A second argument against direct realism, which is most commonly used, is the argument from hallucination, as follows ; P1: Tom sees a green tree P2: Tom is hallucinating there is no green tree P3: The tree that Tom sees is not an external material object P4: The hallucination is extremely detailed and exactly resembles, is identical to, a true ... Out of those million people that die every year, 800,000 of them are African children under the age of 5. To control malaria three actions need to be taken: insecticides need to be used to decrease the vector population, people have to be educated as to how to prevent the vector from reproducing, and anti malarial drugs need to be distributed. To understand the vector and what the vector is, scientists had to first discover what the parasite was and how it worked.
