Anna s Ego Defenses In Matilda, James And The Giant Peach,
This study applies Freud s, and Anna s Ego defenses to Dahl s three novels, Matilda , James and
the Giant Peach , and Charily and the Chocolate Factory, and the effect of them in developing the
personalities of the main characters. Even though, the three novels have been discussed before,;
this study differs as it concentrates on a subject that has not received much attention. . : the use of
Freud s and Anna s Ego defense in the above mentioned novels. A detailed study of this theme will
provide a comprehensible understanding of the novels. This thesis examines the psychological
factors that affirm the behaviors of the characters in Matilda , James and the Giant Peach , and

In fact, many of his books become children s classic and many studies have been made on the
social aspect of his books and the elements of social criticism. However, not so many studies are
made on the psychological aspect of his works. This thesis will focus and analyze the
psychological aspect of Dahl s books for children through investigating the novels from a
specific perspective, named as Ego Defense . Life is not easy. The ego .. the I stands at the
center of some pretty powerful forces in society as represented by the Superego , biology as
represented by the Id , when these forces make conflicting demands on the ego, we come to
understand why the one feels threatened, feels overwhelmed, feels as if he was near collapsing
under the weight of it all. This feeling is named anxiety, and it serves as a signal to the ego that
its survival. According to Freud, to deal with conflict and problems in life the Ego employs a
range of Ego defenses. Ego defenses operate at an unconscious level and help to hold off
unpleasant feelings. If the Ego is forced to admit its weakness, it breaks out in discomfort regarding
the outside world, moral discomfort regarding the Superego, and neurotic discomfort regarding the
strength of the passions in the Id .in fact, memories that banished to the unconscious do not
disappear, but continue to give a strong influence on behavior. The

Why The Failure Of The Allies s Cross-Channel Invasion
In 1941, Churchill and Roosevelt and their advisers met in Washington. Their first strategy was
to defeat Germany and after they ll go after Japan. America planned it as soon as they would
stabilize in the southwestern Pacific. Their plan was to make a cross channel invasion of
Europe from Britain. The Allies could nt have enough ships to invade Europe before the next
spring of 1942. Their next thought was to plan a bomb on Germany. During they would wait
and send war materials to the Soviet armies fighting Germany in Russia. Churchill wanted to
keep going and mess up Germany from the Meditterranian. For example they wanted to ruin
Africa, Sicily, Italy, and so on just until Germany was so weak, they would invade across the
Channel. America wanted to make a cross channel invasion of Europe as soon as possible. In
1943, the Allies agreed to a round the clock bombing campaign against Germany. In the end there
was no definite plan for a cross channel invasion other than to agree to do it someday. In 1943, at
the Tehran Conference, Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill held a final blueprint for allied victory. In
the summer of 1944 there would be a cross channel invasion of Europe and a smaller invasion of
southern France, and at the same time Russia would lanch an offensive on its front with Germany.

4.2 Sample size
Size of the sample group is needed to be specified properly due to the goal is to make inferences
about the population from the sample. The appropriate sample size can be resulted in terms of the
reliability of the study, especially empirical study. Therefore, how many samples can satisfy the
target? In addition, a smaller sample size leads to a higher error of the sampling when compared
with a bigger size. Even if an increasing of sample size can diminish the error, after it goes
beyond some point, an error cannot be decreased significantly (see figure 4.1). Furthermore, an
optimal sample size can also save time and cost of study. Figure 4.1: Rough relationship between
sample size and error, where error is considered to be the deviation of sample values from
population values [9]

Oxymorons In Romeo And Juliet
Throughout Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet and the other poems I have studied, it is evident that
being in love can incite a diverse range of emotions, and the complications and concern it can spark
in those around them. In Shakespeare s prologue to the epic tragedy, it becomes apparent that both
Romeo and his love, Juliet, are in for an immense battle with their emotions when he refers to them
as a pair of star crossed lovers, implying that they re tragically destined to fall apart.
We see at the beginning of the play how naГЇve and immature young Romeo is from how purely
infatuated he appears to be with Rosaline. This can be seen through a variety of language techines
and emotions used by Shakespeare, one of them being his use of oxymorons ... Show more content

Within Romeo s speech about Juliet in Act 1, Scene 5, Shakespeare uses a lot of religious
imagery to convey Romeo s intense, passionate feelings towards Juliet. For example, during one
of the couple s first exchanges Romeo refers to his lips as, two blushing pilgrims. His lips are
the pilgrims that are seeking the holy place, which, in this particular case, is Juliet s lips. In
saying this, Romeo is almost placing Juliet on some sort of religious pedestal, implying that she
has a God like power and control over him, much like God would to a pilgrim. His religious
references show the severity of their love and Shakespeare may have done it as it helps create an
escape from their damnation according to Christian values by creating the religion of love. Even
though some Elizabethan audience members may find it difficult to relate to the character of
Romeo due to his fickle nature towards love, they would understand his feelings through
religion. This is because during Shakespeare s time relgion was thriving so the audience may
possibly understand how important Juliet is to Romeo by how important religion is to them.
However, others may have been deeply offended by this use of religion for a girl Romeo just met as
he frequently refers to Juliet as some sort of God . This may incite some outrage in audience
members as God is

Analysis Of This Side Of Paradise By F. Scott Fitzgerald
While in army training camps during the years 1917 to 1918, F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote the first
draft of his first novel. It was originally called The Romantic Egotist and was rejected by the
publisher twice before he revised it a third time and changed the title to This Side of Paradise.
This Side of Paradise is one of Fitzgerald s most popular works and is considered to be the book
that launched his writing career. The novel is semi autobiographical, meaning it contains several
autobiographical aspects and reflects the events and people that occurred within his life, while
using fictional characters and elements.
Fitzgerald reflects many features of his life and his experiences throughout the novel. The story
revolves around a young boy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

affection towards him. Suddenly Amory is overcome with disgust and loathing for the whole
incident (Fitzgerald 13). This scene allows the reader to fully understand what is going on, from
the contrasting perspectives of both the characters. The conflict portrays Myra s assured feelings
for Amory meanwhile revealing Amory s ambiguous feelings towards Myra when it comes to love
and affection. He realizes this is not what he really wants and becomes uncomfortable with the
whole situation. This is the first example of a relationship ending due to Amory s unstable and
conflicting feelings towards girls and anticipates his future problematic relationships with women.
This scene prepares the audience early in the novel for the upcoming conflicts relating to affection
that Amory occasionally experiences as the story

Animal Mounted Shooting Is A Event
Cowboy mounted Shooting is a timed event where competitors run a designated pattern, while
shooting ten balloon targets with two .45 caliber single action revolver guns, loaded with five
rounds of blank ammunition each. Mounted shooting combines the styles of an old time Wild
West show and skills of barrel racing, pole bending, and reigning all into one event. Any breed of
horseor mule can be used in the event, according to the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association,
some horses take easy to the event while other horses struggle with the loud environment. The
temperament is a huge factor of how well the animal compete in the show, along with the rider s
determination in training the horse. A horse I believe would be good for mounted shooting would
be a small quarter horse with a short back because quarter horses are known for their laid back and
quite domineer. While short back would be useful with bending around the poles and barrels in a
quick manner.
Although, traditional western style is accepted, with long sleeve western style shirt, five pocket
blue jeans, chaps, western boots and cowboy hat. Riders are encouraged to wear a period
costume since, the event pays tribute to the Wild West and the late 1800s. Competitors dressed in
old time style costumes would wear a shirt without a collar, high wasted pants with buttons in
place of the zipper, and an old style cowboy hat. Women that compete in the show have the option
to wear a dress or skirt that drapes over the

The Case Of Hill Chief Constable Of West Yorkshire 1989
TORT LAW ASSIGNENT
INTRODUCTION
This assignment will be explaining various areas of tort law. But mostly will be dealing with the
rule in the case of Hill Chief Constable of West Yorkshire 1989. This assignment will identify the
nature of tortious liability and the range of activities to which the law of tort may be applied.
Tort is a civil wrong which is done to an individual. If a civil wrong is done to an individual the
law provides a remedy where the individual takes the wrongdoer to court. According to Winfield
and Jojowicz negligence is a breach of a legal duty to take care resulting in damage. There are three
Eras of negligence which are:
1.Neighbour principle this principle was brought in the of Donoghue v Stevenson(1932) where ...

Secondly, if the first question is answered affirmatively, it is necessary to consider whether there
are any considerations which ought to negative, or to reduce or limit the scope of the duty or the
class of person to whom it is owed or the damages to which a breach of it may give rise.
3.Three stage test: foreseeability, proximity, fair, just and reasonable Caparo v Dickman (1990)
1990 2010. In this stage, under the Caparo test the claimant must make sure and establish that the
harm was reasonably predictable, that there was a relationship of proximity and if it is fair just
and reasonable to enforce a duty of care.
Negligence always involves establishing whether a duty of care exists and who has that duty. A
good example is shown in the case of Donoghue v Stevenson 1932. This case introduced the law
of negligence and the neighbour test. In this case a friend took Mrs Donoghue went to cafe with
a friend and bought her an ice cream and ginger beer. The ginger beer came in a bottle which
wasn t clear enough to see the contents inside. After drinking half of her ginger beer she then
poured the rest on top of the ice cream when a discomposed snail came out from the bottle. As a
result Mrs Donoghue fell sick and suffered personal injury. She then went on to claim against the
company that produces ginger beer. It was held that her claim was successful and therefore the
neighbour test was established. Lord Atkins commented

Racial Diversity In Longtown
Early in American history, citizens were discriminated against. This was based on the color of
their skin. Of course you do not see it nowadays, or do you? Well recently in Longtown Ohio,
there has been white people who leave racist notes on the front door of the town church making
fun of the history of this town, according to the article, ВЁOhio town holds rare history. Races

Difference Between Alphabetistic And Alphabetic Writing...
Alphabetic and Logographic writing systems almost symbolizes two major cultures in the world.
The Western, Rome, Greece is where the alphabet was created and developed over the course of
centuries. Alphabetic Writing System such as Latin, French, and English had been used as the main
language and device of Western Culture. Particularly English, it is the franca langua. Although
English dominates most of the globe, through colonization, political powers and such, English or
any other alphabetic writing systembefore that failed to be completely dominant. The reason is the
existence of logographic writing systems particularly Eastern ones, Chinese as the most relevant
example. China was by definition, an empire and it did have many influences... Show more content

This proves that the rise of English is not dominant. Why is that? Why is one writing system not
completely dominates the other? There are two reasons for that which is the enormous civilization
and culture that was already built upon these writing systems and the fundamentals difference
between these two writing systems.
First of all, what are these Alphabetic and Logographic writing systems and why are they
fundamentally different? The alphabetic writing system, the original principle of the alphabetic
writing system, in strong contrast to ideographic writing, is a visualization of speech. Ideally each
letter represents one speech sound (grapheme phoneme correspondence), and rules govern
combinations from this small set of basic symbols into higher order linguistic units.(1) While on the
other hand, in a logographic writing system, in theory, each symbol represents one idea. (2). The
main advantage of the alphabet principle is the consistency of the spelling for each word. Because
words consistent spelling, the alphabetic systems have many patterns recurring in many words
making it easier to learn. Also Alphabetic words, since the spelling

Email Fraud
Some people use email to communicate not only on a personal level but for business as well.
The problem is that email is not as secure as one may believe. When you send an email it is
stored in many different areas that you may not be aware of. There are advantages for not only
you but your employer when it comes to protecting your emails, but, there are also disadvantages
for some. Your employer going through your emails may actually be protecting you as well and
you do not realize it. There are a lot of times that an employer may be asked by the courts for

My Mistress Eyes Figurative Language Essay
Wiry hair, bad breath, pale face these don t seem like the words you would use towards someone
you love. Shakespeare uses these terms to describe his romantic partner in the poem My Mistress
Eyes. At first glance, the reader could mistake this for a love poem. In reality, this poem illustrates
how someone could find fault in the one they think they love. As a result of Shakespeare s romantic
preferences and that he wrote many poems about love, My Mistress Eyes seems to be about love
between a man and a woman, but the speaker in the poem critiques his mistress through figurative
language, rhythm and rhyme, and a romantic mood.
In this specific poem Shakespeare uses figurative language to make it seem like a love poem but
makes you read it twice to really understand what he is actually saying about his significant other.
One of the main forms of figurative language in this poem is shown in metaphors. These are
important to the poem to make the comparison of her features to other objects. If hairs be wires,
black wires grow on her head. (Ln 4) Her hair is thick, rough and messy as if they were actually
wires, not nice and smooth like you would want hair to be.
This poem is also filled with similes. My ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mood is brought to the surface by the choice of words used within the text. In the poem he
uses words like love, rose, goddess, and heaven that support the loving mood. He then uses
words like reeks and dun to contradict the mood he sets up beforehand. Another example of
contradicting the mood would be, I love to hear her speak, yet well I know/ That music hath a
far more pleasing sound. (Lns 9 10) He likes to hear her voice yet he knows that music is more
pleasing. In his writing he makes us imagine a realistic woman not a model or a dream woman as
some would say. This says a lot about the speaker by bringing to light the real meaning of his love

Effects Of Enslavement On African Americans
The enslavement of Africans in the Americas was such a gruesome time in history that we often
generalize it into one event not being careful to look closely at the effects it had on the African
people: During the course of those 400 years slavery as we knew it single handily shaped the
early African American. Starting with the export of the first wave of African Slaves the impact of
this would profoundly affect descendants hundreds of years later. Europeans who decided to
enslave African people thought only of what monetary value they would be as they were their
property who didn t deserve the decency of being anything more. The enslavement destroyed life as
they knew it in their native Mother Africa. There they thrived with resources they... Show more

Back in Africa many of the slaves belonged to religions other than Christianity. Religions such as
Islam. They were polytheistic. The few Africans on the continent of Africa that were Christians
was due to the fact that Christian missionaries had gone there teaching the good news. Like their
overall identity when the Africans stepped off the boat their religion was taken away from them
as well. The Europeans looked at their religion as barbaric, unstructured and abstract due to the
fact that they worshipped many gods. Many of the Africans were forced into Christianity
because it was their master s religion. They converted them simply as a control mechanism as
they didn t care about their conversion and more so to denigrate them. So not only did they
adopt his name but also his God. Many are confused as to why the African was so easily
persuaded into serving a God that had allowed their enslavement. The Africans took Christianity
and made it their own. They often times mixed Christianity in with their native religion. In
addition to that they took stories from the bible like Jesus death and suffering and the Jews that
were in bondage and related it to their life. They believed that because Jesus suffered for them
they too were suffering only to reach the Promised Land. An eternal life that many slaves looked

Ethical Issues
Ethical Issues in Gerontology Ethical Issues in Gerontology Nowadays, nurses who provide
elder care are faced with several legal and ethical dilemmas in a daily basis. Besides to the social
and legal dilemma it creates, elder abuse, neglect or also known as elder mistreatment is a massive
health care crisis that can lead to long term health complications and even death (Fulmer
Greenberg, 2012). The purpose of this paper is to review the literature and examine the nature of
elder abuse in relation to its legal and ethical implications. Furthermore, this paper is intended to
discuss the causes and types of elder abuse; professional responsibilities related to reporting,

The cause of elder abuse is multifaceted. Generally, a combination of psychological, social, and
economic factors, as well as mental and physical conditions of the victim and perpetrator
contribute to the occurrence of elder abuse Wagner, Greenberg, Capezuti, 2002 as cited on
(Fulmer Greenberg, 2012). In the developing world family members provide 60% to 80% of
long term care of their elderly significant others (American Psychological Association, 2012).
Consequently, the burden of providing constant physical care needs such as toileting and
bathing can be particularly stressful. The complexity of providing care to a physically,
cognitively or emotionally impaired elderly individual can also be tremendous. Depression,
confusion, Alzheimer s disease, or incontinence on the part of the aging person can make care
giving especially overwhelming ((American Psychological Association, 2012). According to
American Psychological Association (2006), in addition to providing in average 20 hours a
week at home on care giving responsibilities, about 64% of those family caregivers work either
part time or full time out side of home. As a result, the caregivers often suffer from interrupted
sleep, chronic fatigue, little or no privacy, and disintegrating personal lives. (National Center for
Elder Abuse, 2011). Furthermore, abuse can often escalates when the care giver faces economic
hardships, such as unable to pay the cost of health care services for the

Huckleberry Finn Philosophy
The goal of philosophy is to help humans seek the ultimate truth to questions that orbit the thought
of knowledge. One questions that many philosophers are immersing themselves to answer is
whether or not there is a universal good and bad that is true for all people, cultures, and time
periods. Mark Twain, the author of the novel Huckleberry Finn, provides what could be an
ultimate truth to this question through the actions of his character. During the novel, as Twain s
character, Huck, helps an escaped slave reach his freedom, Twain displays there is a universal
good and bad that is true for all. Huck and Jim, the escaped slave, first begin their adventure
towards freedom when they both find each other upon Jackson Island after a twist

The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe Analysis
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe have many themes of religion. Most of those themes are
related to Christianity. The most important themes are that Turkish delight is like sin, the Queen of
Narnia is the Devil, and Aslan died to save Edmund from that sin just like Jesus did for us.
Turkish delight
Turkish delight is a lot like sin in the real world. The witch gave Edmund the Turkish delight and
once he had a taste he was addicted and when he was done he was left wanting more. Edmund
was so addicted that he betrayed His own family just to get more Turkish delight. This directly
reflects sin. In the book is says:
that this is enchanted Turkish Delight and that anyone who had once tasted it would want more
and more of it, and would even, if they were allowed, go on eating it until they killed themselves.
(Lewis, 1950)
This is found in real life in real life when people will do anything to get more and more and they
will neglect what is important in life; they may even kill themselves.
The Queen is the Devil
The Queen of Narnia has many links to the Devil of the Christian faith. The Queen is the ruler of
Narnia and has tried to block out Aslan. Comparatively the Bible says: The god of this world has
blinded the minds of those who do not believe, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who
is the image of God, should shine on them. (Corinthians 4:4 MEV)
The Queen and the Devil both tempt and manipulate people. The Queen says It is dull, Son of
Adam, to drink without eating, what would you like to drink? (Lewis, 1950) to get Edmund to
eat her food which is cursed. In addition The queen and the Devil both disguise themselves to
appear better on the outside, but on the inside they are bad. (Wagner, 2017) Edmund betrayed his
own family so he belongs to the Queen and needed to be killed at the stone table for the crime
which is the exact same thing that happens when one betrays God one then belongs to the Devil
and deserves to die. The evidence is clear that the Queen of Narnia is a representation of the Devil
Aslan died like Jesus
Edmund betrays his family and Narnia and deserves to die, but Aslan takes his place. Jesus did the
same, but he died to save the whole world not just one person. Both

Analysis Of The Apocalyptic Destruction Of The Human Race
Zombie texts have been a longstanding subgenre of fantasy. Often gory and with elements of
horror, the apocalyptic destruction of the human race brought about by some form of virus is
consumed by many and is reoccurring in popular culture. It is often questioned why we find such
enjoyment in a text that depicts such horrors. The answer is in the role fantasyplays, which is a
fulfillment of a wish, a way to depict our explicit desires in a licit way, and to provide a screen
for us to do this. World War Z (WWZ) adheres to these fantasy elements whilst also highlighting
the mediation between duty and pleasure. The scene that has been selected for analysis is one
where hero Gerry Lane is fleeing with his family up the stairs of an apartment complex to meet
the helicopter that is coming to save them, all whilst fighting off a horde of zombies. This scene is
tense, fast paced, and shows our hero fulfilling his expected role and the desires of the viewers.
The scene begins with Gerry and his family ready to flee to the roof. The shot is filled with
flickering red light, red being a common symbol for danger, whilst the flickering provides
uncertainty and fear. These shots set the scene for the impending horror. Gerry s wife asks him,
How do we know they re coming? to which he replies, They re coming. From the start, Gerry is
the all knowing, calm, collected hero. He is the protector who takes the lead. As the main character,
he is the person the audience sees themselves as

Henry Martyn Robert s Rules Of Order
Henry Martyn Robert, author of Robert s Rules of Order was born in 1837 and died in 1923,
and a Brigadier General in the Union Army during the Civil War. In 1863 he was asked to chair
a local town meeting at a church in New Bedford, Massachusetts but didn t know how to preside.
He assumed the assembly would behave, but the meeting was a disaster, lasted 14 hours and
really didn t accomplish anything. General Robert was very frustrated and vowed to never again
attend another meeting until he knew more about Parliamentary Law. He researched a small book
on the subject, and found some rules for DELIBERATE ASSEMBLIES with four or five motions
according to rank, two or three could not be debated, and some amended. He traveled around the
country collecting Parliamentary information and saw different interpretations of Parliamentary
Law in various organizations. **Robert saw the need for a uniform set of rules to enable civic

The Impact Of Stress And Strain On Relationships
Connections require work and will undoubtedly confront challenges vast and little. Basic, regular
stressors can strain a cozy relationship, and significant wellsprings of stress may undermine the
soundness of the relationship. For whatever length of time that each accomplice will address the
current issue and take an interest in building up an answer, most relationship issues are reasonable,
however when challenges are left unaddressed, pressure mounts, poor propensities create, and the
wellbeing and life span of the relationship are in peril.
The Impact of Stress and Strain on Relationships
Strain can be set on a relationship when upsetting conditions influence the couple all in all, or even
only one of the accomplices. Perpetual disease of one individual, for instance, can affect the
prosperity of both accomplices. Many couples battle with imparting viably and feeling that they are
heard by their accomplices, and additionally contrasts in child rearing, political perspectives, or
desires. Extreme stressors incorporate treachery, terminal disease of one accomplice, and genuine
emotional well being issues. Hatred, disdain, and an expansion in the recurrence of contentions
have a tendency to be indications of basic issues that have been left unaddressed.
Some regular relationship concerns incorporate money related troubles, hindrances to
correspondence, routine clash, enthusiastic separation, sexual closeness issues, and absence of
trust. Once in a while, marriage itself

The PEACE and Cognitive Interviewing Models vs. the Reid...
Many of today s interrogation models being utilized in police investigations have an impact on
false confessions. The model that has been in the public eye recently is the social psychological
process model of interrogation known as the The Reid Technique. There are two alternatives used
by the police today to replace the Reid Technique, one is the PEACE Model and the other is
Cognitive Interviewing. These methods are not interrogationtechniques like Reid but interview
processes.
The Reid Technique is an interrogation process that consists of two parts, the interview and a nine
step interrogation. The interview, which is non accusatory in nature, gives the interviewer a chance
to gather information related to the case. The interview ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is known as a passive mood . (Jayne Buckley, 2004) Throughout this stage the suspect is on the
defensive and may withdraw and focus their thoughts on punishments. (Buckley, 2000)
The passive mood reached in step six is where the investigator may recognize that the suspect has
given up and is ready to confess. (Associates J. E., 2014) The suspect will appear less tense,
defeated and may even begin to cry. The investigators response to this passive mood is where stage
six begins by condensing their themes down to just one or two, and head into the next and last
stage. The investigator will remain in close proximity and start introducing the alternate questions.
(Buckley, 2000)
Presenting an alternate form of questions to the suspect is the seventh step. The investigator will
ask a question with a positive and negative choice. Both choices usually result in the suspect
admitting some sort of guilt. An innocent suspect will listen to both choices and reject both of
them. The alternative should be followed up with a statement of support in which the interrogator
tells the suspect that they think it was done for a good reason. (Buckley, 2000)
Corroboration of the admission of guilt is stage eight of this technique. This is obtained by
collecting details of the offense from the suspect by using open ended questions. The interrogator
moves from the persuasion phase of questioning to a simpler

Low-Fiber Diets
Introduction
Fiber is found in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. A low fiber diet restricts fibrous foods that
are not digested in the small intestine. A diet is considered to be low fiber if it contains about 10
15 grams of fiber a day. In general, a low fiber food will have fewer than 2 grams of fiber per
serving. Low fiber diets may be used to:
Promote healing and rest the bowel during intestinal flare ups.
Prevent blockage of a partially blocked or narrowed gastrointestinal tract.
Reduce fecal weight and volume.
Slow bowel movements.
You may be on a low fiber diet as a transitional diet following surgery, after an injury, or because of

The Impact Of Modern Day Internet On Our Daily Lives Essay
HExecutive Summary
If we go back to history, two decades ago, people used primitive message boards or emails to talk
to one another and a business would communicate via text ads or pop ups on search engine
/directory like Yahoo. (Bolman, 2015, Para 4) Then in 1997, two Stanford Ph.D. students invented
an algorithm named PageRank. The PageRank calculated the importance of the website based on
how often other sites would link to it. Later, with the introduction of Google, the first wave of
technology began. This invention put the modern day internet in motion. (Bolman, 2015, Para 5)
This essay paper is about the modern day internet and the technological uses in our daily lives. This
paper will take a closer look at how we communicate on the internet and discusses about the major
network building blocks and their functions, including some vulnerabilities associated with the
internet software applications.
How we communicate on the internet
In 1969, DOD s ARPA (Advanced Research Project Agency) began an effort to develop redundant
and survivable strategic communication architecture. (APUS, n.d., Week 1 Lesson) This DOD
attempt gave birth to Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)/Internet Protocol (IP). TCP /IP soon
found its widespread uses in the web and many networking applications (because they were very
reliable and effective). TCP/IP made web enabled devices possible. In addition, TCP/IP would
connect to the internet (if desired) for remote

America s Traditions And Customs
Imagine traveling to a foreign country, where the culture and cuisine is very different from your
own. How would you begin to explore the nation s traditions and customs? Maybe you would start
by visiting the most famous restaurants, museums, and buildings. By studying these places and
things, you would begin to understand more about the history and what it was like living there
during that time period. Not many people think about how our country s cuisine began. The
different mealtimes and food trends, through the years, helped shape our nation to what it is today.
Other countries influenced and help create our ideas for our cuisine. During the Industrial
Revolution, American mealtime and different food trends were positively affected. One of the first
and most famous groups that influenced our cuisine is the Native American Indians. The earliest
settlers in Jamestown, Virginia and Plymouth, Massachusetts relied on the American Indians with
their way of preparing and cooking food. The three main crops that the American Indians used were
corn, beans, and squash. The Native American Indians generously shared and taught their way of
life and how they made their food to the settlers. Throughout the forming of the colonies there were
many different cultures and eating habits. There were hunters, farmers, and both. Things started to
change once the 13 colonies were beginning to be formed. When all 13 colonies were established
the food was abundant, but it also was varied. It

Aneci Persuitti ENGC 1101 SEC 43 December 15, 2014 The Effects of Cell Phone Use on
Driving Performance and Safety As technology advances, people are relying on it more and
more. Cell phones have literally become a necessity. Every day on the roads, people are driving
and using their cell phones to talk, text, browse the internet, use GPS, etc. According to the
International Telecommunication Union, the number of mobile cellular subscriptions
worldwide is approaching the number of people on earth. Mobile cellular subscriptions will
reach almost 7 billion by end 2014, corresponding to a penetration rate of 96% (3). If the number
of cell phone subscribers reaches the world s population by the end of 2014, almost every driver
will have a cell phone in their car and consequently, more drivers will be using them while
driving. Can cell phone use while driving affect driving performance and safety? The answer is
yes. There are several studies related to the effect of cell phone use on driving performance and
these studies share very similar findings. In one study, researchers Lesch and Hancock wanted to
know if drivers were aware of their driving performance when using a cell phone. The driver s
driving performance was associated with the driver s confidence level and distraction level. In
particular, the higher the confidence level, the better the driving performance was shown by the
driver. The study found that male drivers had a greater confidence level than females, while

Sydney Carton Character Analysis
In A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens thorough development of each character and skillful use
of coincidence prevents anyone from fading into insignificance; every character in the novel
plays a role vital to the evolution of the plotline. Perhaps more impressive than his ability to place
every single character in a significant role, Dickens uses the element of surprise to introduce the
magnitude of various roles. Sydney Carton, in particular, seems to play a rather insignificant part
in much of the novel, resulting from his self admitted worthlessness. Carton s continual and
somewhat irritating self criticism primes him for a surprising acquisition of influence at the
conclusion; an inconsequential life becomes the novel s hero in an ending which few anticipate.
Carton expresses regret over his unfruitful life multiple times, agonizing over the idea of not
having the opportunity to alter it. Dickens creates a final set of circumstances that are traumatic
for much of the novel s characters; Carton, however, sees the situation as the perfect chance to
finally do something meaningful with his life. In an ironic yet sensible twist, the only way Carton
can redeem his wasted life is by losing it. In light of the nature of his life up to the conclusion of
the novel, he does not merit the Christ figure label until his final act of sacrifice. Charles Dickens
unexpectedly transforms a wretched Sydney Carton into a symbol of Christ through the character s
displays of selflessness,

The Influence Of Observational Learning
This observation was done in home setting were Maya was doing her daily morning activities.
She dumped the clothes from the hamper on the floor and began to separate the clothes into light
and dark colors. She picked up three or four articles of light clothing at a time and put them in the
washer. She then moved all the dark clothes with her foot into the corner of the laundry room. She
walked at a fast pace out of the laundry room to a storage closet and took out a vacuum. She took
the vacuum to the master bedroom, set it by the door and went to make the bed. She first pulled off
all of the pillows and blankets off on to the floor. She then fixed the fitted sheet and then the one on

Observational learning means that a person learns by observing the behavior or actions of
others (Sigelman Rider, 2015). Maya learned at an early age by observing her mother that a
morning routine involved doing household work. Her muscle memory allowed her to
remember how to perform all of the tasks that she as a child had observed her mother doing.
This also allowed her to be able to stay moving and not take a break between different chores. At
age 58, she seemed to move with ease and did not need any help in completing her morning
routine. Another theory that has helped influence Maya s physical development. Her
microsystem involves her mother and what she taught her when if came to household work. Her
macrosystem involves her culture. Sigelman and Rider (2015) suggest that culture is often
defined as the shared understandings and way of life of a people, including beliefs and practices
concerning the nature of humans in different phases of lifespan, what children need to be taught
to function in society, and how people should lead their lives as adults (p. 52). Growing up in
Mexico Maya s culture taught girls at an early age that the woman of the home was in charge of
maintaining the home clean and perfect. Her physical development was influenced by the fact that
as a child she had no choice but to do all of these chores that she would

Having a large network as well as holding the venture capitalist responsibilities puts Heidi in a
position where there is the potential for conflicts of interest to arise. This could happen through
funding a member of her network or placing a member of her network in a Softbank funded
venture. Even if she doesn t take any of these actions for pure personal gain they can be perceived
that way should a situation sour. This could undermine the credibility factor that plays a large role
in holding her network together despite its dependence on weak ties (Pfeffer). Q.3 What steps did
Roizen take to develop her network? To maintain it? Heidi began developing her network as soon
she left school. With no reputation she first had to build an emotional connection with the hiring
manager at Tandem to get in the door. Effective persuaders have a strong sense of their audience s
emotional state and they adjust their tone accordingly (Conger). Heidi did that in hitting it off with
the hiring manager and landing the job. She then shifted her attention to making important

of information at Tandem. This started her pattern of building reciprocal relationships whereby the
other party felt obligated to repay her for assisting them in some matter (Cialdini)

Autotomy Essay
Abstract Autotomy occurs in many animals, but most research focuses on lizards as the trait occurs
in the majority of all lizard families (Downes Shine, 2001). The most common form of autotomy in
this order is caudal autotomy, relating to the tail. What has possibly made this adaptation so
advantageous is the ability of many lizard species to regenerate their tail after autotomy. Being able
to grow a secondary tail that can perform the same antipredator function is highly beneficial, and
other tail functions such as post autotomous thrashing and bright coloration enhance autotomous
behavior greatly. The loss of a limb may appear catastrophic for some organisms, but there are
many species that will do it voluntarily when faced with a threat.... Show more content on

In some species, post autotomous tails retain the ability to flex, diverting the attention of the
predator away from the escaping lizard to the rapidly undulating tail. Acrobatic flips are
occasionally performed by the severed tails of some species, and many others enjoy great dexterity
even when not attached to their parent body (Hingham Russell, 2009). The movement of the
autotomized tail is independent of brain activity and is instead governed by a network of neurons
inside the spine. While predictable central pattern generators are not uncommon in nature, lizard
species like the Tokay gecko (gekko gecko) have incorporated erratic and complicated movements
into their autotomized tail displays (Hingham Russell, 2009). This unpredictable behavior is meant
to appear novel and thus noticeable to the predator, preventing it from pursuing the rest of the gecko
body. The mechanism of tail loss involves the coordination of many tissues in the tail to prevent
serious damage or danger to the lizard. Vertebrae are specialized in intravertebral autotomous
lizards, containing a fracture through the side of vertebra near the disconnection site (Gilbert et al
2013). Most autotomous lizards contain fractured vertebrae, but a few others autotomize
intervertebrally, separating between

Cheer Tryouts
It s one day until cheer tryouts. For some reason I was thinking about it during the middle of
math class, but I m not real sure as to why. Trista, what s the answer to number....... I didn t notice
the teacher was talking to me so I didn t hear what number it was. I m never listening anyways.
Sorry sir, what number was that again? I said. Number three, Trista. My neighbor answered me,
so I fumbled with my papers to find the right page. After about a decade, I finally found it, but the
teacher had already moved on to the next student. I can t believe I was so zoned out. I m kind of
used to it by now. Lunch was the same thing. I was completely zoned out and still thinking of cheer.
That s all I could think about and nothing else. All throughout... Show more content on

I was done. I did it. I was all smiles as I walked back through the double doors. Several people
mouthed to me, Did you mess up? Did you do good? Did you do this? Did you do that? All I
could do was smile and nod my head yes. Later that night me and my friends ran up to the front
doors of East to find out who made the team. Before I could even get out of the car I took a deep
breath and hoped for the best. I slowly stepped out of the car and waited there for a moment.
Two point five seconds later I was running like a cheetah towards the front door of the school. I
looked crazily for my number on the sheet of paper. It was there. I couldn t believe it. So many
thoughts were going through my head. I literally couldn t think right. Me and my friends started
hugging each other. To my surprise all my friends made it, and I was so proud of them. I layed in
bed that night thinking about how fortunate I was to be in such a good place. Good grades, good
friends, and fun times. I couldn t be any happier with my

Exploring Morality and Faith in Brian Moore s Black Robe
Exploring Morality and Faith in Brian Moore s Black Robe
Included within the anthology The Penguin Book of Irish Fiction,1[1] are the works of great Irish
authors written from around three hundred years ago, until as recently as the last decade. Since one
might expect to find in an anthology such as this only expressions and interpretations of Irish or
European places, events or peoples, some included material could be quite surprising in its
contrasting content. One such inclusion comes from the novel Black Robe,2[2] by Irish born author
Brian Moore. Leaving Ireland as a young man afforded Moore a chance to see a great deal of the
world and in reflection afforded him a great diversity of setting and theme in his writings. And ...

Immediately following in this same scene, Laforgue intended saviors arrive: Daniel, the
Algonquin leader Chimona with daughter Annuka, his wife and young son. Meaning only to
save him from his abandonment and guide him to the Huron camp, they do not know about the
present Iroquois and are immediately ambushed. Chimona s wife is killed and the rest are
captured. Laforgue, seeing this all, knows figures that they will all die, yet knows he could keep
hiding and live. But Moore writes of the Father s next thought, But what is my life in the
balance, if, by going forward now, I can confess Daniel, who is in a state of mortal sin, and, God
willing, baptize the others before their last end? (p. 154). This statement, along with Laforgue s
decision to selflessly follow the others into almost certain death, reveals an idea essential to the
understanding of Laforgue and of the novel itself. He is a man on a mission, a mission to save
souls. At this time he knows he will not make it alone to the Huron camp to baptize save the
souls of the ones intended on this journey, so he cannot bring himself to pass up a chance to save
the souls of Daniel (who he sees as in a state of sin as a result of his fornication with the Algonquin

Essay On Myotonic Dystrophy
Myotonic Dystrophy is a late onset disease which has two types. The first type is DM1. In order
to test for DM1 a molecular genetic test is performed on DMPK. DMPK stands for Dystrophia
myotonica protein kinase. This test is 100% accurate because it will detect the pathogenic variants
in all patients. DM1 comes from a defect in chromosome nineteen.
The second type is DM2. Interesting enough the gene CNBP is the only gene in which a mutation
within it is known to cause myotonic dystrophy in its second type. It s more than 99% accurate
with the combination of routine PCR, Southern blot analysis, and the PCR repeat primed assay.
DM2 comes from a defect in chromosome three.

Eventually a need to focus on relearning how to do simple things such as getting up from sitting
and going up and down stairs and gripping objects will need to be reassessed. Often enough
exercise has also been an issue and it has been debated on whether or not exercise makes the
disease spread faster but also disuse of the muscles can contribute to further weakness so that it s
recommended to discover what is just the right balance for exercise depending on the individual.
Though a study was done that in which strengthening exercises at a moderate intensity did not
speed up the disease progression. Types of exercises that have been found safe are Aerobic
exercises, which have been found effective in improving fitness in patients and cardiovascular
exercise though beforehand a cardiac examination is recommended and an ok from a primary care
physician.
I restate my opinion that I disagree with ASHG s statement and my reasons are that simply the
diagnosis of myotonic dystrophy takes years and I believe that giving the child a chance to better
their life with the disease is better than keeping them from knowing about their

In addition, a smaller sample size leads to a higher error of the sampling when compared with a bigger size. • 6. Oxymorons In Romeo And Juliet Throughout Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet and the other poems I have studied, it is evident that being in love can incite a diverse range of emotions, and the complications and concern it can spark in those around them. In Shakespeare s prologue to the epic tragedy, it becomes apparent that both Romeo and his love, Juliet, are in for an immense battle with their emotions when he refers to them as a pair of star crossed lovers, implying that they re tragically destined to fall apart. We see at the beginning of the play how naГЇve and immature young Romeo is from how purely infatuated he appears to be with Rosaline. This can be seen through a variety of language techines and emotions used by Shakespeare, one of them being his use of oxymorons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within Romeo s speech about Juliet in Act 1, Scene 5, Shakespeare uses a lot of religious imagery to convey Romeo s intense, passionate feelings towards Juliet. For example, during one of the couple s first exchanges Romeo refers to his lips as, two blushing pilgrims. His lips are the pilgrims that are seeking the holy place, which, in this particular case, is Juliet s lips. In saying this, Romeo is almost placing Juliet on some sort of religious pedestal, implying that she has a God like power and control over him, much like God would to a pilgrim. His religious references show the severity of their love and Shakespeare may have done it as it helps create an escape from their damnation according to Christian values by creating the religion of love. Even though some Elizabethan audience members may find it difficult to relate to the character of Romeo due to his fickle nature towards love, they would understand his feelings through religion. This is because during Shakespeare s time relgion was thriving so the audience may possibly understand how important Juliet is to Romeo by how important religion is to them. However, others may have been deeply offended by this use of religion for a girl Romeo just met as he frequently refers to Juliet as some sort of God . This may incite some outrage in audience members as God is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Western, Rome, Greece is where the alphabet was created and developed over the course of centuries. Alphabetic Writing System such as Latin, French, and English had been used as the main language and device of Western Culture. Particularly English, it is the franca langua. Although English dominates most of the globe, through colonization, political powers and such, English or any other alphabetic writing systembefore that failed to be completely dominant. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This proves that the rise of English is not dominant. Why is that? Why is one writing system not completely dominates the other? There are two reasons for that which is the enormous civilization and culture that was already built upon these writing systems and the fundamentals difference between these two writing systems. First of all, what are these Alphabetic and Logographic writing systems and why are they fundamentally different? The alphabetic writing system, the original principle of the alphabetic writing system, in strong contrast to ideographic writing, is a visualization of speech. Ideally each letter represents one speech sound (grapheme phoneme correspondence), and rules govern combinations from this small set of basic symbols into higher order linguistic units.(1) While on the other hand, in a logographic writing system, in theory, each symbol represents one idea. (2). The main advantage of the alphabet principle is the consistency of the spelling for each word. Because words consistent spelling, the alphabetic systems have many patterns recurring in many words making it easier to learn. Also Alphabetic words, since the spelling ... Shakespeare uses these terms to describe his romantic partner in the poem My Mistress Eyes. At first glance, the reader could mistake this for a love poem. In reality, this poem illustrates how someone could find fault in the one they think they love. As a result of Shakespeare s romantic preferences and that he wrote many poems about love, My Mistress Eyes seems to be about love between a man and a woman, but the speaker in the poem critiques his mistress through figurative language, rhythm and rhyme, and a romantic mood. In this specific poem Shakespeare uses figurative language to make it seem like a love poem but makes you read it twice to really understand what he is actually saying about his significant other. One of the main forms of figurative language in this poem is shown in metaphors. These are important to the poem to make the comparison of her features to other objects. Consequently, the burden of providing constant physical care needs such as toileting and bathing can be particularly stressful. The complexity of providing care to a physically, cognitively or emotionally impaired elderly individual can also be tremendous. Depression, confusion, Alzheimer s disease, or incontinence on the part of the aging person can make care giving especially overwhelming ((American Psychological Association, 2012). According to American Psychological Association (2006), in addition to providing in average 20 hours a week at home on care giving responsibilities, about 64% of those family caregivers work either part time or full time out side of home. As a result, the caregivers often suffer from interrupted sleep, chronic fatigue, little or no privacy, and disintegrating personal lives. (National Center for Elder Abuse, 2011). Furthermore, abuse can often escalates when the care giver faces economic hardships, such as unable to pay the cost of health care services for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One questions that many philosophers are immersing themselves to answer is whether or not there is a universal good and bad that is true for all people, cultures, and time periods. Mark Twain, the author of the novel Huckleberry Finn, provides what could be an ultimate truth to this question through the actions of his character. During the novel, as Twain s character, Huck, helps an escaped slave reach his freedom, Twain displays there is a universal good and bad that is true for all. • 24. The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe Analysis The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe have many themes of religion. Most of those themes are related to Christianity. The most important themes are that Turkish delight is like sin, the Queen of Narnia is the Devil, and Aslan died to save Edmund from that sin just like Jesus did for us. Turkish delight Turkish delight is a lot like sin in the real world. The witch gave Edmund the Turkish delight and once he had a taste he was addicted and when he was done he was left wanting more. Edmund was so addicted that he betrayed His own family just to get more Turkish delight. This directly reflects sin. In the book is says: that this is enchanted Turkish Delight and that anyone who had once tasted it would want more and more of it, and would even, if they were allowed, go on eating it until they killed themselves. (Lewis, 1950) This is found in real life in real life when people will do anything to get more and more and they will neglect what is important in life; they may even kill themselves. The Queen is the Devil The Queen of Narnia has many links to the Devil of the Christian faith. The Queen is the ruler of Narnia and has tried to block out Aslan. Comparatively the Bible says: The god of this world has blinded the minds of those who do not believe, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. (Corinthians 4:4 MEV) The Queen and the Devil both tempt and manipulate people. The Queen says It is dull, Son of Adam, to drink without eating, what would you like to drink? (Lewis, 1950) to get Edmund to eat her food which is cursed. In addition The queen and the Devil both disguise themselves to appear better on the outside, but on the inside they are bad. (Wagner, 2017) Edmund betrayed his own family so he belongs to the Queen and needed to be killed at the stone table for the crime which is the exact same thing that happens when one betrays God one then belongs to the Devil and deserves to die. The evidence is clear that the Queen of Narnia is a representation of the Devil Aslan died like Jesus Edmund betrays his family and Narnia and deserves to die, but Aslan takes his place. Jesus did the same, but he died to save the whole world not just one person. Both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Analysis Of The Apocalyptic Destruction Of The Human Race Zombie texts have been a longstanding subgenre of fantasy. Often gory and with elements of horror, the apocalyptic destruction of the human race brought about by some form of virus is consumed by many and is reoccurring in popular culture. It is often questioned why we find such enjoyment in a text that depicts such horrors. The answer is in the role fantasyplays, which is a fulfillment of a wish, a way to depict our explicit desires in a licit way, and to provide a screen for us to do this. World War Z (WWZ) adheres to these fantasy elements whilst also highlighting the mediation between duty and pleasure. The scene that has been selected for analysis is one where hero Gerry Lane is fleeing with his family up the stairs of an apartment complex to meet the helicopter that is coming to save them, all whilst fighting off a horde of zombies. This scene is tense, fast paced, and shows our hero fulfilling his expected role and the desires of the viewers. The scene begins with Gerry and his family ready to flee to the roof. The shot is filled with flickering red light, red being a common symbol for danger, whilst the flickering provides uncertainty and fear. These shots set the scene for the impending horror. Gerry s wife asks him, How do we know they re coming? to which he replies, They re coming. From the start, Gerry is the all knowing, calm, collected hero. He is the protector who takes the lead. (Bolman, 2015, Para 4) Then in 1997, two Stanford Ph.D. students invented an algorithm named PageRank. The PageRank calculated the importance of the website based on how often other sites would link to it. Later, with the introduction of Google, the first wave of technology began. This invention put the modern day internet in motion. (Bolman, 2015, Para 5) This essay paper is about the modern day internet and the technological uses in our daily lives. Aneci Persuitti ENGC 1101 SEC 43 December 15, 2014 The Effects of Cell Phone Use on Driving Performance and Safety As technology advances, people are relying on it more and more. Cell phones have literally become a necessity. Every day on the roads, people are driving and using their cell phones to talk, text, browse the internet, use GPS, etc. According to the International Telecommunication Union, the number of mobile cellular subscriptions worldwide is approaching the number of people on earth. Mobile cellular subscriptions will reach almost 7 billion by end 2014, corresponding to a penetration rate of 96% (3). If the number of cell phone subscribers reaches the world s population by the end of 2014, almost every driver will have a cell phone in their car and consequently, more drivers will be using them while driving. Can cell phone use while driving affect driving performance and safety? The answer is yes. There are several studies related to the effect of cell phone use on driving performance and these studies share very similar findings. In one study, researchers Lesch and Hancock wanted to know if drivers were aware of their driving performance when using a cell phone. The driver s driving performance was associated with the driver s confidence level and distraction level. In particular, the higher the confidence level, the better the driving performance was shown by the driver. The study found that male drivers had a greater confidence level than females, while ... • 35. Sydney Carton Character Analysis In A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens thorough development of each character and skillful use of coincidence prevents anyone from fading into insignificance; every character in the novel plays a role vital to the evolution of the plotline. Perhaps more impressive than his ability to place every single character in a significant role, Dickens uses the element of surprise to introduce the magnitude of various roles. Sydney Carton, in particular, seems to play a rather insignificant part in much of the novel, resulting from his self admitted worthlessness. Carton s continual and somewhat irritating self criticism primes him for a surprising acquisition of influence at the conclusion; an inconsequential life becomes the novel s hero in an ending which few anticipate. Carton expresses regret over his unfruitful life multiple times, agonizing over the idea of not having the opportunity to alter it. Dickens creates a final set of circumstances that are traumatic for much of the novel s characters; Carton, however, sees the situation as the perfect chance to finally do something meaningful with his life. In an ironic yet sensible twist, the only way Carton can redeem his wasted life is by losing it. In light of the nature of his life up to the conclusion of the novel, he does not merit the Christ figure label until his final act of sacrifice. Charles Dickens unexpectedly transforms a wretched Sydney Carton into a symbol of Christ through the character s displays of selflessness, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Autotomy Essay Abstract Autotomy occurs in many animals, but most research focuses on lizards as the trait occurs in the majority of all lizard families (Downes Shine, 2001). The most common form of autotomy in this order is caudal autotomy, relating to the tail. What has possibly made this adaptation so advantageous is the ability of many lizard species to regenerate their tail after autotomy. Being able to grow a secondary tail that can perform the same antipredator function is highly beneficial, and other tail functions such as post autotomous thrashing and bright coloration enhance autotomous behavior greatly. The loss of a limb may appear catastrophic for some organisms, but there are many species that will do it voluntarily when faced with a threat.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some species, post autotomous tails retain the ability to flex, diverting the attention of the predator away from the escaping lizard to the rapidly undulating tail. Acrobatic flips are occasionally performed by the severed tails of some species, and many others enjoy great dexterity even when not attached to their parent body (Hingham Russell, 2009). The movement of the autotomized tail is independent of brain activity and is instead governed by a network of neurons inside the spine. While predictable central pattern generators are not uncommon in nature, lizard species like the Tokay gecko (gekko gecko) have incorporated erratic and complicated movements into their autotomized tail displays (Hingham Russell, 2009). This unpredictable behavior is meant to appear novel and thus noticeable to the predator, preventing it from pursuing the rest of the gecko body. The mechanism of tail loss involves the coordination of many tissues in the tail to prevent serious damage or danger to the lizard. • 43. Cheer Tryouts It s one day until cheer tryouts. For some reason I was thinking about it during the middle of math class, but I m not real sure as to why. Trista, what s the answer to number....... I didn t notice the teacher was talking to me so I didn t hear what number it was. I m never listening anyways. Sorry sir, what number was that again? I said. Number three, Trista. My neighbor answered me, so I fumbled with my papers to find the right page. After about a decade, I finally found it, but the teacher had already moved on to the next student. I can t believe I was so zoned out. I m kind of used to it by now. Lunch was the same thing. I was completely zoned out and still thinking of cheer. That s all I could think about and nothing else. All throughout... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was done. I did it. I was all smiles as I walked back through the double doors. Several people mouthed to me, Did you mess up? Did you do good? Did you do this? Did you do that? All I could do was smile and nod my head yes. Later that night me and my friends ran up to the front doors of East to find out who made the team. Before I could even get out of the car I took a deep breath and hoped for the best. I slowly stepped out of the car and waited there for a moment. Two point five seconds later I was running like a cheetah towards the front door of the school. I looked crazily for my number on the sheet of paper. It was there. I couldn t believe it. So many thoughts were going through my head. I literally couldn t think right. Me and my friends started hugging each other. To my surprise all my friends made it, and I was so proud of them. I layed in bed that night thinking about how fortunate I was to be in such a good place. Good grades, good friends, and fun times. I couldn t be any happier with my ... • 44. Exploring Morality and Faith in Brian Moore s Black Robe Exploring Morality and Faith in Brian Moore s Black Robe Included within the anthology The Penguin Book of Irish Fiction,1[1] are the works of great Irish authors written from around three hundred years ago, until as recently as the last decade. Since one might expect to find in an anthology such as this only expressions and interpretations of Irish or European places, events or peoples, some included material could be quite surprising in its contrasting content. One such inclusion comes from the novel Black Robe,2[2] by Irish born author Brian Moore. Leaving Ireland as a young man afforded Moore a chance to see a great deal of the world and in reflection afforded him a great diversity of setting and theme in his writings. And ... Meaning only to save him from his abandonment and guide him to the Huron camp, they do not know about the present Iroquois and are immediately ambushed. Chimona s wife is killed and the rest are captured. Laforgue, seeing this all, knows figures that they will all die, yet knows he could keep hiding and live. But Moore writes of the Father s next thought, But what is my life in the balance, if, by going forward now, I can confess Daniel, who is in a state of mortal sin, and, God willing, baptize the others before their last end? (p. 154). This statement, along with Laforgue s decision to selflessly follow the others into almost certain death, reveals an idea essential to the understanding of Laforgue and of the novel itself. He is a man on a mission, a mission to save souls. At this time he knows he will not make it alone to the Huron camp to baptize save the souls of the ones intended on this journey, so he cannot bring himself to pass up a chance to save the souls of Daniel (who he sees as in a state of sin as a result of his fornication with the Algonquin girl ... • 45. Essay On Myotonic Dystrophy Myotonic Dystrophy is a late onset disease which has two types. The first type is DM1. In order to test for DM1 a molecular genetic test is performed on DMPK. DMPK stands for Dystrophia myotonica protein kinase. This test is 100% accurate because it will detect the pathogenic variants in all patients. DM1 comes from a defect in chromosome nineteen. The second type is DM2. Interesting enough the gene CNBP is the only gene in which a mutation within it is known to cause myotonic dystrophy in its second type. It s more than 99% accurate with the combination of routine PCR, Southern blot analysis, and the PCR repeat primed assay. DM2 comes from a defect in chromosome three. I choose to disagree with ASHG s statement. One main reason is that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eventually a need to focus on relearning how to do simple things such as getting up from sitting and going up and down stairs and gripping objects will need to be reassessed. Often enough exercise has also been an issue and it has been debated on whether or not exercise makes the disease spread faster but also disuse of the muscles can contribute to further weakness so that it s recommended to discover what is just the right balance for exercise depending on the individual. Though a study was done that in which strengthening exercises at a moderate intensity did not speed up the disease progression. Types of exercises that have been found safe are Aerobic exercises, which have been found effective in improving fitness in patients and cardiovascular exercise though beforehand a cardiac examination is recommended and an ok from a primary care physician. I restate my opinion that I disagree with ASHG s statement and my reasons are that simply the diagnosis of myotonic dystrophy takes years and I believe that giving the child a chance to better their life with the disease is better than keeping them from knowing about their ...
