The History and Role of Six Sigma and Lean in the...
The human race has made leaps and bounds in manufacturing of goods needed not only to
survive, but to make our lives easier and more efficient. From the earliest recorded history, man
has made the tools he needed to survive or gain a completive advantage. In the not too distant
past, 100 years or so, we had skilled craftsman who had specific skills and talents. In a small town
you would have a blacksmith, a tailor, a farmer, etc. Each of these people learned their skills
through years of apprenticeships, and the items they made were unique. Their processes often took
months or even years to complete. Since these times we as a society have progressed from
craftsmanship to assembly lines. Even now we have robotic manufacturing,... Show more content on

The term Six Sigma was coined by Bill Smith in 1986, while at Motorola. It was coined as a target
for defect free product manufacturing. The term was derived from the idea that process capability
can be described by product or service deviation from specification. ( Six Sigma Basics ). Although
this theory turned in to what we now know as Six Sigma, the origins of statistical process control
can be traced to Walther Shewart and Edward Deming. Walter Shewart was an engineer, physicist
and statistician. He theorized that there are two causes of variation which will lead to decreased
product quality. These two causes are the assignable cause, (special cause variation) and chance
cause (common cause variation). Assignable Cause variation is an unpredictable, unanticipated
problem within the manufacturing system. Chance Cause variation is a well known error or cause
that can effect a manufacturing process. Shewart created control charts, focusing on bringing a
manufacturing process under control. This would only leave chance cause variation, and keeping
this in control a company and predict and manage their processes cost effectively and economically
(Akpose).

Applying Malcolm Knowles Andragogy Model to Isd Essay
Applying Malcolm Knowles Andragogy Model to ISD
Abstract The way that an instructional designer defines learning and what is believed about the
way learning occurs plays an important role in situations where the facilitator wants to make a
change in how people do a job or they need to learn something new on the job. This paper focuses
on Malcolm Knowles adult learning assumptions and how to apply them in instructional strategies
and techniques for facilitating learning. It also explores some of the critics concerning his
assumptions. Knowles assumptions concerning adult learning are each addressed and an example
provided on how to apply these assumptions to ISD using technology. The information presented

Knowles laid the groundwork that trainers needed to take into consideration before revising,
developing, or presenting any training program targeted at adults.
Knowles begins his assessments by asking several crucial questions about his learners and using a
holistic approach in developing training in chapter 13 ASTD. He begins by addressing the climate
and condition of the environment that he will be teaching in. His goal is to focus on collaboration
between the facilitator, the trainee, and their peers. He wants a comfortable atmosphere with the
proper tools and accommodations that will help his students learn in comfort. His methods are
geared towards building a friendly, fun, and approachable learning atmosphere.
Diagnosing the audience needs can be done in many different ways, such as in Rothwell s learning
assessment. Knowles on the other hand includes his participants in diagnosing their own learning
needs. Knowles proposes that learning is not a need unless the trainee perceives it to be and by
allowing them to participate in the planning of their own learning, he helps them want to learn what
they need to learn. Knowles suggests an emphasis on self diagnostic procedures such as simulation
exercises, assessments; competency based testing, and feedback. Once the learner has diagnosed

Rhetoric In The Japanese
While it is obvious rhetorical activities exist in Japan, the Japanese do not share many of the
assumptions about language and communication that native English speaking cultures often hold
true. In fact, a homologous term for rhetoric does not even seem to exist in the Japanese language.
Further compounding the issue is the fact that ancient Japanese theoretical works of philosophy
essentially do not exist, at least not in the same explicit manner of Aristotelian like works. Rather,
Japanese literature tends to be more that of didactic, poetic and aesthetic characteristics. If we are
to hold to the belief that the discipline of rhetoric is an extension of philosophy, it would seem to
be a perplexing if not a futile venture to seek a term in

Effects Of Mongolian Westernization
Chapter 18 Winter Break Assignment
1.Timeline
2. How did the Mongol occupation affect Russian civilization?
The Mongols didn t affect the base of Russian culture because they left local administration to
locals. As the economy evolved to more emphasis on agriculture and peasant labor, the focus on
literacy declined.
3. What was the nature of Russian expansion under Ivan III and Ivan IV?
The reign of the Ivan III resulted in the formation of a new political structure that featured a
centralized government and became tsar of Russia. The Russian economy flourished during the

Rhetorical Devices In The Convergence Of The Twain By...
The construction of the Titanic started on March 31, 1909 and finished on May 31, 1911. During
the process, constructors made sure to make the Titanic as attractive as possible, accessorizing it
with many iconic features such as the ship s grand staircase and its promenade deck. Many people
at the time believed that the Titanic would never sink, therefore naming it the Unsinkable ship after
it has set sail. Unfortunately, the unsinkable ship collided with an icebergon April 14, 1912,
claiming the lives of 1,500 passengers. As a result, the Titanic broke into two and sunk, leaving
behind its legacy. Thomas Hardy provides a poem that acknowledges the sinking of the Titanic.
Unlike the many similar reactions of grief and sorrow that the people had, Hardy approaches the
event differently. In the poem, The Convergence of the Twain, Thomas Hardy uses a variety of
rhetorical devices to express his disdain for the vanity of humans during the first half of the poem
and to explain that fate s work resulted in the outcome of the Titanic during the second half of the
poem.
Throughout the first five stanzas of the poem, Hardy utilizes allusion, juxtaposition, and alliteration
to emphasize the idea that the excessive pride of humans is useless and it has led to the downfall
of the Titanic. Therefore, Hardy provides insight on the vanity of those that built the ship. He
describes the people as the Pride of Life. The description alludes to the book of John in the
Christian Bible.

Francisco De Goya Black Paintings
Francisco de Goya s Pinturas negras, or Black Paintings, are some of the most grotesque and
unsettling images in art history, with one painting in particular, Saturno devorando a su hijo, or
Saturn Devouring One of His Sons, standing out the most amongst them all. With his wildly staring
eyes, gaping mouth and half eaten son in his hands, it makes one wonder what would drive an artist
to create an image like this. Goya, however, was not uneducated in the horrors of the world,
witnessing the travesties of the Peninsular War, the atrocities of the Spanish Inquisition, surviving
two life threatening illnesses, with one leaving him completely deaf, and the death of six of his
seven children. Perhaps it was one of these instances in particular that encouraged him to conceiving
this disconcerting figure, or perhaps it was a combination of the three.
At the beginning of Goya s career, in 1777, he was commissioned to create a series of tapestry
cartoons from the Royal Tapestry Factory, designing some 42 patterns over five years. Some of his
more popular paintings were originally tapestry cartoons such as The Parasol. His use of the
popular Rococo style, brought him to the attention of the aristocracy of Spain. In 1789, he was
appointed to court painter to Charles IV and then the following year, he became First Court Painter.
His portraits of the king, queen and royal family, were anything but flattering. While he was given
this great position of influence and prestige, he

Health Insurance Pros

this mean? It means help of medical expenses and hospitalization charges. Health insurance is
simply the risk of incurring any sort of medical expenses. Unfortunately, only 6 out of 10 people
think that health insuranceis important (Blakely). There are two contrasting viewpoints regarding
compulsion of health insuranceat government level. The debate of health insurance to be required

The opposition might be convinced with benefits of health insurance, however, they have objection
over health insurance price being costly. It is not easy to buy health insurance policies due to
mountain high premiums. A person who hardly makes both ends meet cannot afford to purchase
health insurance. Health Insurance is an extra burden to the public. Dashiell Bennett in an article
pointed out towards words of former president Barak Obama who said, People want to have health
insurance but they aren t able to pay high insurance premiums . (Bennett, 1). The opponents believe
that instead of paying high premiums people can make compulsory savings at regular period that
they can use rainy days. People can save a lot by not having health insurance. If they have health
insurance the low income group suffers they might just keep giving half of the income they are
earning just to wait till they get sick and need the medical payment. It can keep them in continuous

American Airlines Flight 1572 Crash Analysis
The Accident
On November 12, 1995, an American Airlines McDonnell Douglas MD 83 type passenger aircraft,
which was operating as Flight 1572, departed from Chicago O Hare International (ORD); however,
the aircraft got substantially damaged due to impact to the top of oak trees on Peak Mountain
Ridge in East Granby, Connecticut. The aircraft also hit the Instrument Landing System (ILS)
localizer antenna, which was on its way to Runway 15 of Bradley International Airport (BDL). The
aircraft, lastly, crashed while on approach to Runway 15 of BDL at 00:55 Eastern Time.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities and all 73 passengers and crew of 5 survived the impact.

In addition, a VDP keeps the aircraft at an altitude that will not descend lower than the MDA. The
VDP is useful for and frequently utilized during approaching to an unintended runway, such as the
one at BDL, the VOR Runway 15. However, airmen of the flight 1572 were not utilizing any VDPs
during the flight, did not calculate one either.
Furthermore, the tower issues at the BDL airport might have contributed to the crash too. The last
ATIS report the crew received was at 10:51 PM, which was almost two hours before the accident
occurred. That last ATIS record became obsolete in short notice due to rapidly changing weather
conditions at BDL. Even though extreme conditions were in effect at BDL, the aircrew was not
informed with recent information. Therefore, even though the last ATIS record that was sent to
pilots informed them about extreme weather conditions at BDL, additional ATIS records should
have been released. The reason behind not emitting new ATIS records after the one sent at 10:51
PM was the timing and personnel congestion issues at the BDL tower. According to the controller
that sent the last ATIS report to the crew, he was waiting for additional recent weather information
to appear on the Systems Atlanta Information Display System (SAIDS); however, until the time he
left the tower, which was around midnight, SAIDS did not show any new weather

Personality Type Of The Isfj

personality test taken by Andresa Frederick. Through her research and opinion, Ms. Frederick
describes each letter within her type as well as discusses the validity of personality through
personal and work examples. She also discusses how Personality Typing can empower her to
become a well rounded and accomplished employee at her current position at the Department of
Defense. Keywords: ISFJ, weaknesses, preferences, personality, personality typing . Personality
Typing The subject of personality types is a very interesting to study and learn. While I have
noticed that personalities of individuals differ in many degrees, it never occurred that Typing
could be beneficial in learning individuals, from co workers to managers, within my
organization. Typing has also been beneficial in providing assistance in determining my
personality preferences and how I can apply it to my personal life, specifically at work. In
research, I have been typed as the ISFJ (Introverted, Sensing, Feeling, Judging) personality.
Surprising, as before taking the test and reading the class text I have always viewed myself as
an extrovert. However, after careful and brief analysis, I was able to conclude that at the ISFJ
could be the perfect fit for my personality. Personality Type I I was initially surprised when I was
typed as an introvert, but when when I recall, I do notice some introverted tendencies.

Analysis Of Corrie Ten Boom s The Hiding Place
Corrie Ten Boom s book, The Hiding Place, is an inspirational story that explores the issues of
needing and wanting freedom, and maintaining strength throughout life s difficulties. This book
illustrates how important freedom is, and how, without it many people are lost or lack hope.
Freedom coveys the feeling of strength and worth. Corrie explains this throughout her book.
The Hiding Place is the emotional and inspirational true life story of an ideal Christian woman
who sacrifices her life to help others. Corrie has grown up in a very religious home, and when
embroiled in a difficult and dangerous situation her family risks everything to help others. The
book is based in the 1940 s, when Corrie s home town is invaded by German officers who collect
any Jewish civilians and escort them to Concentration Camps. Fear consumed the town, and the
Ten Boom family reacts by helping the town s Jewish families. Quickly, the news of this kind
hearted family spreads and more Jews come seeking help. Eventually the Ten Boom family is
caught and sent to the Concentration camps themselves. While imprisoned in solitary
confinement Corrie, has to learn to be strong and faithful to God. She dreams and wishes for
freedom for not only herself but for the other innocent prisoners surrounding her. Corrie has to be
strong for herself and for God. She stays devoted to her beliefs, and even through the hurt and
anxiety, she never blames God, she believes it is all part of His plan and that everything happens
for a reason.
The Hiding Place s dual theme of freedom and faith are also portrayed in other books, such as,
All Quite on The Western Front. Paul Bäumer, the main character, is a young man who enlists
in the army to fight for his country. When Paul joins the army, he covets the freedom of others.
Once he returns home and is free, his memories of battle taunt him. He wishes to return to the war
because he is used to being a killing machine and hearing the sound of guns go off at night. His
newly recovered freedom is unwanted. War has so altered Paul that he no longer is able to have
thoughts and emotions of his own. Throughout the book, the author continuously brings up the bird
as a symbol of hope and freedom. Paul

Eassy On Nero And Nero
Its 54 AD and Nero is the emperor. Everyone thinks he is an arrogant person who doesn t care at
all about Rome, but only for the riches. But, little do they know that he is the one protecting
their homes from being robbed, he is stopping criminals and he is keeping their city safe from
danger. Nero has extraordinary powers that he received when struck by lightning while playing
his lyre. He received these powers during the sixth year of his reign and that is when everything
went downhill. He couldn t control the powers and that led him to do crazy things such as
killing his own mother and executing innocent Romans. This gave Nero a very bad reputation
and many people began disliking him. But, he learned to control his power and chose to do good
with it. He did this to make up for all the bad he did when he went out of control. Although he has
many, his most powerful move is sending waves when he sings that will almost instantly destroy
his enemy. Nero can also send out blasts when he plays his lyre. No man or thing could stop
Nero until one day, he met his match. Nero was walking down the streets of Rome in search of
someone in need of him, when he saw Ignis. Ignis was a monster that may look like any ordinary
Roman man, but he was far from that. He was a fire breathing, deadly beast who burned down
shops every night. But Nero knew exactly what to do, he pulled out his lyre and started playing. It
did nothing to Ignis. He began to play faster but Ignis got faster too. So

Reaction Of Howl s Moving Castle
Howl s Moving Castle is a Japanese animated fantasy film scripted and directed by Hayao

The grahics for this film was beautifully made, there were gorgeous panoramic scenes, diverse
and detailed character designs and with a flourish when the colors are applied. The wide range of
colors used in this film really help things stand out and it also accentuate the antastical aspects of

The wizard shows Sophie an old mill house where he spent much of his childhood. This beautiful
rustic setting replete with a glorious lake is in stark contrast to the fast paced city where Sophie
lives. There the dark black clouds of smoke from the trains fill the air with pollution. But the most
toxic thing of all is war itself with destructive battles going on in the air and on the land. Howl is
transformed into a great birdlike warrior as he tries to put an end to conflict.
CONCLUSION
The first reason I chose this Japanese animated fantasy is to show that the standard perception of
Japanese anime being strange, noisy and weird cartoons were misguided. Howl s Moving Castle is a
perfect example of both that popularity (it was nominated for a Best Animated Feature Oscar) and
of how the genre defies easy classification. This story reinforces healthy lessons about the
importance of family and friendship

seems very pretty but it s rather hard to understand. therefore I would like to attempt to analysize
this film as I feel that through patience and careful observation the film has a lot of depth and
meaning to it. This film is trying to communicate many important messages some of which that I

The graphic organizer allows students to inform their teacher what they know, what they want to
know, and what they learned. This was the only constructivism observed in the class. Due to time
constraints, the teacher does not have enough time to go more in depth with the students with the
concepts to evoke more meaningful learning. The students in this class could benefit from more
class discussions to elicit a better understanding of the subject matter. The worksheets that the
students work with have very little relevance in their lives, which only adds frustration to the
learning process. With time being the main reason that there is a lack of constructivism, the teacher
could look into alternative approaches. One approach that might work well in this classroom is
problem based learning. The students are inquisitive and innovative. Classroom distractions would
be lowered, and the students would be actively engaged in their learning.
Theories of Intelligence Howard Gardner s theory of multiple intelligence s (MI theory) is a
valuable resource for teachers, if they understood how they could apply this in the classroom
(Snowman McCown, 2012). In this class, there are multiple intelligences observed amongst the
students; however, there is minimal differentiated instruction to allow the students the best
opportunities for success. It is critical that teachers understand that their teaching methods may not
be wrong, but they

The author notes that his has a particular connection with the Celtic lore; he was born in a Celtic
corner of England. He explains that the mythology was everywhere, From a bedroom window, I
could see St. Michael s Mount, the home of the giant slain by Jack, rising out of Mount s bay.
Beyond, lay the Lost Land of Lyonesse of Celtic Arthurian legend, where the lovers Tristan and
Iseult drank the potion that would bind them forever to each other and where Arthur himself
would ride to the hunt through a forest long ago buried by a restless sea. To understand the roots
of Celtic music and why it has survived throughout the ages and its current widespread appeal,
you need to go back to go back to pre history. The stereotypical image of the Celts was tall,
fearless warriors with big hair and walrus mustaches who would charge naked and howling into
battle, beating rhythmically on their shields. This tactic led to the Celts to being able to march
unchallenged into Rome. News of their approach led many frightened villages to flee at news of
their approach. The Celts had no overarching political structure, there was no empire they were just
clusters of warlike tribes loosely sound by similar languages and a culture dominated by the
influential and widely constellated Druids. The Druids were priests, philosophers, orators, scholars,
natural scientists, judges, and bards or poets.

Organizational Culture And Its Functions

Organizational culture involves systems of beliefs and values that guide the behavior of individuals
within the organization and how they shape behavior (Kummerow, 2013). Organizational

equality of gender in all aspects of life. This development has been particularly true in both the

ideals towards building a foundation of gender equality. This foundation has been based on the
belief that individuals in society are entitled to human dignity and liberty, entitling them equal

learning and practice in the past few weeks in the areas of class reading and teaching, triads,
meeting with directees in sessions and supervision. My class reading and teaching in the last few
weeks provide me with a solid idea about spiritual direction. My understanding is that in the
spiritual direction session, the director is to listen to on an ongoing conversation between the
directee and God. The Holy Spirithas already been working in the life of directee before the
session and will continue to be at work after the session is over. The emphasis of spiritual
direction will be to enhance the relationship between the directee and God. In a spiritual
direction session, typical questions asked are Where is God in this? or Where has God gone and
why don t I sense any divine presence at all? I learn to know that spiritual direction arises out of
inviting and listening to God. One thing I am in tension with myself and need to be reminded
constantly is that I should not have the attitude or expectation to resolve the issue mentioned in the
session. The focus of the session should be about what goes on between the directee and God. The
triadexperiences help me to put my learning into practice and they build my confidence in carrying
out sessions. Those questions raised in the triads on reflecting the experience of spiritual direction
help me to be aware of my

The Damnation of a Canyon Essay
Strong Response: The Damnation of a Canyon In the reading The Damnation of a Canyon, the
author, Edward Abbey, described his outlook on the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell.
Throughout his reading, he emphasized many positives the Glen Canyon Dam once had. The text
revealed Abbey believing the nature that Glen Canyon used to contain and how people didn t
appreciate it. He used his perspectives of when he worked as a park ranger before all the changes
happened. He strongly believed in nature. He felt that he supported his argument with facts and his
personal opinions. If Abbey discussed his views to others, then maybe he could ve understood the
reason why other people enjoy the new reservoir. I feel that Abbey has the right to judge... Show

He provided situations for people to acknowledge like the cost, adventure that people could be
experienced, and the trip that can be safe and easier than a powerboat tour of the reservoir. I
think he appeared to be trustworthy of his own words because he gave us elements of nature.
Agreeing with Abbey does have a lot of appalling outlooks. There are people that will go against
his argument since his resources seem to only come from his personal experience. I will agree
with Abbey because every day people are killing nature like there is no tomorrow. People are
taking advantage of what nature gave us. Every where you turn, natural habitat are being
disturbed just for some lousy houses. Abbey is trying to convince people to be on his side with
nature. He described before the damnation that there were springs, sometimes flowing streams,
waterfalls and plunge pools. Abbey gave us an illustration how the dam looked and it was filled
with songbirds: vireos, warblers, mockingbirds, and thrushes and larger mammals mule deer,
coyote, bobcat, ring tailed cat, gray fox, kit fox, skunk, badgersВ… He argued nature was killed
during the process of building the reservoir. This argument probably brought many people s
attention to agree or disagree with him. Abbey represented the environmentalists to help grow the
anti dam movement. If I had the chance to do the movement then I will help and support it. He also
argued people that doesn t appreciate

Robotic Male Crabs
Many animals exhibit unique mating patterns and over time have evolved species specific traits to
grab the attention of potential mates. Sexual Selection allows for individuals who possess certain
qualities to produce more offspring than others, resulting in the evolution by means of natural
selection of that trait and the diminishing of the traits of the weaker individuals. This allows for
greater fitness of an individual which will in turn benefit the species as a whole. MaleFiddle crabs
possess one large claw, which has been observed to be used as a weapon and as a signal of
courtship (Callander et al. 2013). In their study, Callander and her team used a robotic male crab

2013). The second experiment on the other hand did show a female preference to the alternative
stimulus waving at a faster rate than the control (Callander et al. 2013). The experimenters in
this study found no evidence that female fiddler crabs mate choice is effected by the shape of
the male s claw alone (Callander et al. 2013). This experiment did however show evidence that
females prefer a mate with a faster courting wave rate, choosing the alternative, faster waving
stimulus, over the control, U. mjoebergi claw, in almost every trial (Callander et al. 2013). The
results this experiment suggest that claw shape in male fiddle crabs has not evolved due to
sexual selection (Callander et al. 2013). Male fiddle crabs do use their claw for male male combat
so it is plausible that claw shape is the outcome of evolution under selection in being the dominant
male (Callander et al.

John Wayne As An Example Of A Revisionist Western Film
The Western genre been highly prevalent in Hollywood films for decades. Beginning with The
Great Train Robbery in 1903, Western films have gained international many parts of Europe and
Mexico in addition to the United States. One classic example of a Western feature (full length) film
is True Grit (1969), which stars John Wayneas the strong, memorable protagonist, Rooster Cogburn.
Although the film follows many filmic conventions regarding the formula of the Westerngenre, it
also defies certain conventions, thus serving as an example of a revisionist Western. These
qualities also carry over into the recent remake, True Grit(2010), which contains the same plot as
the original while making use of modern cinematic techniques in order to make the film more
exciting, dramatic and accessible for a modern audience. Prior to the release of True Grit (1969),
John Wayne had played starring roles in countless other Western films, including Stagecoach (1939)
and The Searchers (1956). By the 1960s, John Wayne gained vast recognition among many
audiences as the definitive celluloid icon of the American Western. John Wayne?s popularity within
Hollywood grew largely during the 1950s, during the rise of revisionist western films. In addition,
the film?s setting is consistent with previous films in the genre. A small portion of the plot is set in
a small town in Arkansas, while the bulk is set in the sporadically populated, mountainous Indian

Othello Tragic Hero
Tragedy is characterized as a drama or literary work in which the main character is brought to ruin
or suffer sorrow, especially as a result of tragic flaw. This tragedy is innate to the main character.
The tragic hero must be honorable, having a high stature than most men, must have a tragic flaw
and this flaw must play as essential part in his defeat. In William Shakespeares Othello, Othello is a

Othello was first performed by the King s Men at the court of King James 1 on November 1,
1604.Shakespeare borrowed freely from other sources for his plays. It is the manner in which
he traces his character which transforms his sources so exquisitely. His concept of tragedy is
partly Greek and partly his hero through the arousing of pity and fear. The Greek concept of a
tragic hero is a noble character suffering for no fault of his own, due to a malevolent God.
Though destiny plays a distinct part in Shakespearean tragedies as well, the tragic catastrophe
occurs due to a flaw in hero s character. Othello is a tragic hero. However, the theme of the play
revolves more around Iago than Othello. From the very beginning, Othello is an outsider in the
public arena. He is a Moor, an outsider and a black man from North Africa and is consequently
victimized in an all white society. However, his expertise as a pioneer and a military general
make him a reputed personality to the Venetian government. Before all else, he is generally

A Review Of A Literature Review On Bullying
Literature Review
Introduction
Bullying is a very negative offense that is described as repetitive behavior that harms or hurts
another person physically, socially or emotionally; and is an imbalance of power in which the target
cannot stop the behavior and defend themselves (National Bullying Prevention Center, 2016e,
para, 2). Additionally, it creates major problems for everyone in general, and all those who are
involved, principals, social workers, teachers, and the schools. According to NBPC, research and
statistics have proven that bullying tends to change, if not ruin the lives of many people in a
harmful or tragic manner. Many long or everlasting detrimental effects occur as a result of bullying.
Poor mental health, behavior disorders, and loss of academic interest or skills have been associated
to bullying. Additionally, there is a strong correlation between school violence and suicide. It is
crucially important for students and their families to understand that there are many resources and
help available. According to research, the effects of bullying can distort or destroy the lives or
future of many innocent victims. To broaden the perspectives and knowledge on bullying, this
paper will focus on its definitions, roles of bullying, characteristics and environmental factors that
influence and develop bullying. Finally, I hope to describe prevention or intervention resources and
programs, which have been effective in teaching parents and students how to

acknowledge that North America, does not have equal distribution of wealth. For example, North
American had to create the TANF program to assist those who are poor and cannot work, and
have no money to take care of their families. Families who receive fund through TANF program
are consider to be very poor families who need cash assistance in order to maintain support
themselves and their families.

Essay Amsterdam s Historic Neighborhood The Jordaan
Amsterdam s historic neighborhood The Jordaan Over 3.5 million people visit Amsterdam yearly
eager to taste it s freedoms. However, there happens to be more to the capitol of the Netherlands
then drugs and prostitutes, much more. Contrary to what most people assume about its excepting
behavior Amsterdamonce held great economic power. While the city once thrived in the 1600 and
1700 s after founding the Dutch East India Company. Soon though depression and war begain to
strain Amsterdam. Imigrants frm all over Europe flocked to Amsterdam, many of them lived in the
Jordaan. The Jordaan and inner city canals are both big tourist attractions and a looking glass into
the past. The Jordaan was once home to blue collar workers but I was... Show more content on

Thus the building of the famous Canals and the Jordaans started. During the 1600 s Amsterdam
s population was growing rapidly. It quickly became necessary to increase in size in order to
accommodate the abundance of new occupants. The community now know as the Jordaans was
built in 1612 in the western part of Grachtengordel, it was decided that this area would be for the
working class. All of the streets and building were developed around old trails and ditches which
is why it looks different from the rest of Amsterdam. The first residence of the Jordanns were
fortunate that at the time there was much need for sailors, carpenters and other workers. Soon
small rooms and attics were being rented out to whole families, due to lack of housing. Home
owners began adding on extra rooms, building up making the streets appear narrower. Back houses
were also constructed and were reachable through small ally ways that were no more than one
meter wide. Most tenets of the Jordaans wanted to escape the crowded streets and poverty that
surrounded them but there were no escapes. Some of the weathey donated money to build the
Westerkerk Church, the famous artist Rembrandt is in fact buried in a pauper s grave. The church
gave the community members a place to avoid the slums of their neighborhood. In the early
eighteen hundreds six canals were added around the Jordaan quarter although there was still no
running water. During the 1900 s the Jordaan

Earned Income Tax Case Study
For many years low income families have been stigmatized due programs destined to provide
welfare. Most of the families that are in need of economic support undergo a scrutinized agenda,
which most of the time, question by question undresses recipients by stripping their dignity. In
my childhood we used something similar to food stamps. We were a family of 12 members,
parents and 10 children. I remembered my mother crying full of anger and frustration when the
government sent a letter saying: Your case is under revision. Even if revision looked like a
positive reason (it could mean an increase of benefits), this meant checks would be delayed at least
for two months... Two studies are present in this project. Temporary Assistance for Needy

The rate of participants is high compared with other income support programs. Federal and State
governments are trying to encourage feedback from recipient programs and involvement of
qualified participants. According to Beecroft (2012), the Virginia s IRS has initiated a campaign
to improve outreach to individuals who can benefit from those services. Same program has been
implemented to reach families located in New York and California. The Virginia government
contracted a private agency to prepare mailing notices and perform phone calls to instruct
qualified candidates to use EITC benefits. This study makes two main contributions to existing
research by providing: rigorous evidence on the impacts of low cost outreach for the EITC,
including a simple cost benefit analysis; and more recent estimates of EITC take up rates for
recipients of public assistance, based on accurate data sources. This study also uses large sample
sizes even though they are only for Virginia (a starting population of close to 500,000 households,
including 225,000 EITC eligible households) (Beecroft

America s Orchestras Are In Crisis Analysis
In the article America s Orchestras are in Crisis , Kennicot underlines the fact that the American
orchestras have been undergoing a rough patch in the recent times. He uses the example of the
Schermerhorn Symphony Center, which in spite of the massive investment that was made its
creation, it has been accumulating debts and having a bleak future. This is also the case for
Nashville Symphony, which has been accumulating deficits to the tune of $10 to $20 million per
year. This shows an extremely bleak picture as far as the future of symphony orchestrais concerned.
Indeed, similar sentiments are expressed by Jennie Dorris in The Audition , where she gives the
story of Tetreault, a Colorado based percussionist who has put in 100 hour weeks... Show more

This statement is pointing at the increased disconnect between the likes and preferences of the
youth population or rather the younger entrepreneurs and the ideas that are increasingly propagated
by the orchestra players. It should be noted that a large number of individual donors and
institutional funders are questioning the continued investment in orchestras, yet the musicians
continue to build their hopes on the efficiency of renewed fundraising efforts without considering
the change or dynamic nature of the feelings of younger generations regarding this type of music. In
essence, the orchestra musicians simply want to ignore their current need for gratification and
instead pay attention to ideas that are alien to them. This should point to what is already wrong
with the orchestra world of music. Of course, there are people who are attracted to it simply
because it sets them apart from the masses who would not feel at ease paying excessively for a
type of music that does not offer gratification to their immediate needs. However, a vast majority
would only feel comfortable paying for music that appeals to their souls. Essentially, it should be
clear that the financial problems that are attributable to the

Persuasive Functions Of John L. LewisSpeech
Persuasive Functions of John L. Lewis Speech
John L. Lewis was the only proponent of established labor unions in the 20th century. He
successfully led the labor movement that pushed for equal treatment of labor workers despite the
terrible economic condition.
Lewis spent his formative years in Iowa. As an adult, he was unsuccessful in entering the world
of politics and business. After he moved to Panama, Illinois he was first elected president of the
local United Mine Workers union. Next, Lewis was appointed an AFL organizer by Samuel
Gompers in 1911. His second UMW appointment was as a delegate to the AFL Convention in
1916. Finally, Lewis was appointed as vice president of the United Mine Workers Union. Lewis
begins to prescribe courses of action for workers to be part of a movement that pushed for a labor
union by organizing and uniting the discontented. In his speech he mentions enacting a policy to
enable the workers to stand as a unit (Lewis 3). John Lewis used his speech at the AFL convention
to establish himself as the leader of the labor movements and prescribe courses of action for the
workers by altering perceptions of reality and identity.
His speech at the American Federation of Labor allowed him to become the leader, but was
ineffective in convincing the AFL to establish industrial unions.
Furthermore, labor movements were part of the establishment (Jensen 29). Due to the strikes in
labor unions, it was necessary for a new type of labor leader to arise. At

Paradigm Shift Anthropology
Marshall Sahlins has a quote that we stand on the shoulders of giants to shit on their heads
reflects the idea of paradigm shift. The shoulders personify the collective knowledge of those
researchers before us, as students it is where we gain our information. It is not through our own
work that we initially study our respective fields; we study the accumulation of work that those
giants have codified. The shit represents new ideas, criticism, and reworking of the previously held
beliefs. The constant questioning of beliefs, seeking new answers is an intrinsic feature of
scientific inquiry. This holds true not only in the hard sciences but in the social sciences as well,
some may say to an even greater extent, due to the nature of the... Show more content on

Boas reliance on empirical data to formulate theories underscores Kuhn s central idea that
paradigms are only changed through examination of new data. As data on cultures preceding Boas
was slim at best, it is not hard to see how Boas could acquire data contrary to the existing viewpoint.
This data collection itself was a new theory, the new invention required. Kuhnian thought states that
preparadigmatic schools emphasize the collection of the facts, as Boas was emphasizing. Crisis
within the paradigm is witnessed by the competition between the schools of thought. Emerging
from this crisis is Boasian anthropology, with its reliance on empirical data as the basis for study.
This data collection is subdivided into the four subfields Boas saw as a requirement for this new
field. The four field approach emerges as the dominant force in anthropology. With this approach
the community changes its view of the field, and produces new methods and goals. These
methods and goals have been used as a professional consensus in anthropology since the Boasian
transformation. It may be argued that the Boasian example is not indicative of a paradigm shift, as
anthropology itself was too new a field to have a consensus. Whether or not the data gathered
resulted from anomalies in his working paradigm is a consideration. Boas does appear to have
stepped outside the bounds of the paradigm from the start, never attempting to fit his data into the
existing evolutionary

  • 2. The History and Role of Six Sigma and Lean in the... The human race has made leaps and bounds in manufacturing of goods needed not only to survive, but to make our lives easier and more efficient. From the earliest recorded history, man has made the tools he needed to survive or gain a completive advantage. In the not too distant past, 100 years or so, we had skilled craftsman who had specific skills and talents. In a small town you would have a blacksmith, a tailor, a farmer, etc. Each of these people learned their skills through years of apprenticeships, and the items they made were unique. Their processes often took months or even years to complete. Since these times we as a society have progressed from craftsmanship to assembly lines. Even now we have robotic manufacturing,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The term Six Sigma was coined by Bill Smith in 1986, while at Motorola. It was coined as a target for defect free product manufacturing. The term was derived from the idea that process capability can be described by product or service deviation from specification. ( Six Sigma Basics ). Although this theory turned in to what we now know as Six Sigma, the origins of statistical process control can be traced to Walther Shewart and Edward Deming. Walter Shewart was an engineer, physicist and statistician. He theorized that there are two causes of variation which will lead to decreased product quality. These two causes are the assignable cause, (special cause variation) and chance cause (common cause variation). Assignable Cause variation is an unpredictable, unanticipated problem within the manufacturing system. Chance Cause variation is a well known error or cause that can effect a manufacturing process. Shewart created control charts, focusing on bringing a manufacturing process under control. This would only leave chance cause variation, and keeping this in control a company and predict and manage their processes cost effectively and economically (Akpose). Deming was ... Applying Malcolm Knowles Andragogy Model to Isd Essay Applying Malcolm Knowles Andragogy Model to ISD Abstract The way that an instructional designer defines learning and what is believed about the way learning occurs plays an important role in situations where the facilitator wants to make a change in how people do a job or they need to learn something new on the job. This paper focuses on Malcolm Knowles adult learning assumptions and how to apply them in instructional strategies and techniques for facilitating learning. Knowles laid the groundwork that trainers needed to take into consideration before revising, developing, or presenting any training program targeted at adults. Knowles begins his assessments by asking several crucial questions about his learners and using a holistic approach in developing training in chapter 13 ASTD. He begins by addressing the climate and condition of the environment that he will be teaching in. His goal is to focus on collaboration between the facilitator, the trainee, and their peers. He wants a comfortable atmosphere with the proper tools and accommodations that will help his students learn in comfort. His methods are geared towards building a friendly, fun, and approachable learning atmosphere. Diagnosing the audience needs can be done in many different ways, such as in Rothwell s learning assessment. Knowles on the other hand includes his participants in diagnosing their own learning needs. Knowles proposes that learning is not a need unless the trainee perceives it to be and by allowing them to participate in the planning of their own learning, he helps them want to learn what they need to learn. Knowles suggests an emphasis on self diagnostic procedures such as simulation exercises, assessments; competency based testing, and feedback. Once the learner has diagnosed ... Rhetoric In The Japanese While it is obvious rhetorical activities exist in Japan, the Japanese do not share many of the assumptions about language and communication that native English speaking cultures often hold true. In fact, a homologous term for rhetoric does not even seem to exist in the Japanese language. Further compounding the issue is the fact that ancient Japanese theoretical works of philosophy essentially do not exist, at least not in the same explicit manner of Aristotelian like works. Rather, Japanese literature tends to be more that of didactic, poetic and aesthetic characteristics. If we are to hold to the belief that the discipline of rhetoric is an extension of philosophy, it would seem to be a perplexing if not a futile venture to seek a term in ... • 6. Rhetorical Devices In The Convergence Of The Twain By... The construction of the Titanic started on March 31, 1909 and finished on May 31, 1911. During the process, constructors made sure to make the Titanic as attractive as possible, accessorizing it with many iconic features such as the ship s grand staircase and its promenade deck. Many people at the time believed that the Titanic would never sink, therefore naming it the Unsinkable ship after it has set sail. Unfortunately, the unsinkable ship collided with an icebergon April 14, 1912, claiming the lives of 1,500 passengers. As a result, the Titanic broke into two and sunk, leaving behind its legacy. Thomas Hardy provides a poem that acknowledges the sinking of the Titanic. Unlike the many similar reactions of grief and sorrow that the people had, Hardy approaches the event differently. In the poem, The Convergence of the Twain, Thomas Hardy uses a variety of rhetorical devices to express his disdain for the vanity of humans during the first half of the poem and to explain that fate s work resulted in the outcome of the Titanic during the second half of the poem. Throughout the first five stanzas of the poem, Hardy utilizes allusion, juxtaposition, and alliteration to emphasize the idea that the excessive pride of humans is useless and it has led to the downfall of the Titanic. Therefore, Hardy provides insight on the vanity of those that built the ship. He describes the people as the Pride of Life. The description alludes to the book of John in the Christian Bible. ... • 7. Francisco De Goya Black Paintings Francisco de Goya s Pinturas negras, or Black Paintings, are some of the most grotesque and unsettling images in art history, with one painting in particular, Saturno devorando a su hijo, or Saturn Devouring One of His Sons, standing out the most amongst them all. With his wildly staring eyes, gaping mouth and half eaten son in his hands, it makes one wonder what would drive an artist to create an image like this. Goya, however, was not uneducated in the horrors of the world, witnessing the travesties of the Peninsular War, the atrocities of the Spanish Inquisition, surviving two life threatening illnesses, with one leaving him completely deaf, and the death of six of his seven children. Perhaps it was one of these instances in particular that encouraged him to conceiving this disconcerting figure, or perhaps it was a combination of the three. At the beginning of Goya s career, in 1777, he was commissioned to create a series of tapestry cartoons from the Royal Tapestry Factory, designing some 42 patterns over five years. Some of his more popular paintings were originally tapestry cartoons such as The Parasol. His use of the popular Rococo style, brought him to the attention of the aristocracy of Spain. In 1789, he was appointed to court painter to Charles IV and then the following year, he became First Court Painter. His portraits of the king, queen and royal family, were anything but flattering. But, little do they know that he is the one protecting their homes from being robbed, he is stopping criminals and he is keeping their city safe from danger. Nero has extraordinary powers that he received when struck by lightning while playing his lyre. He received these powers during the sixth year of his reign and that is when everything went downhill. He couldn t control the powers and that led him to do crazy things such as killing his own mother and executing innocent Romans. This gave Nero a very bad reputation and many people began disliking him. But, he learned to control his power and chose to do good with it. He did this to make up for all the bad he did when he went out of control. Although he has many, his most powerful move is sending waves when he sings that will almost instantly destroy his enemy. Nero can also send out blasts when he plays his lyre. No man or thing could stop Nero until one day, he met his match. Nero was walking down the streets of Rome in search of someone in need of him, when he saw Ignis. Ignis was a monster that may look like any ordinary Roman man, but he was far from that. He was a fire breathing, deadly beast who burned down shops every night. But Nero knew exactly what to do, he pulled out his lyre and started playing. It did nothing to Ignis. • 24. Robotic Male Crabs Many animals exhibit unique mating patterns and over time have evolved species specific traits to grab the attention of potential mates. Sexual Selection allows for individuals who possess certain qualities to produce more offspring than others, resulting in the evolution by means of natural selection of that trait and the diminishing of the traits of the weaker individuals. This allows for greater fitness of an individual which will in turn benefit the species as a whole. Even if revision looked like a positive reason (it could mean an increase of benefits), this meant checks would be delayed at least for two months... Two studies are present in this project. Federal and State governments are trying to encourage feedback from recipient programs and involvement of qualified participants. According to Beecroft (2012), the Virginia s IRS has initiated a campaign to improve outreach to individuals who can benefit from those services. Same program has been implemented to reach families located in New York and California. The Virginia government contracted a private agency to prepare mailing notices and perform phone calls to instruct qualified candidates to use EITC benefits. This study makes two main contributions to existing research by providing: rigorous evidence on the impacts of low cost outreach for the EITC, including a simple cost benefit analysis; and more recent estimates of EITC take up rates for recipients of public assistance, based on accurate data sources. This study also uses large sample sizes even though they are only for Virginia (a starting population of close to 500,000 households, including 225,000 EITC eligible households) (Beecroft ... • 44. America s Orchestras Are In Crisis Analysis In the article America s Orchestras are in Crisis , Kennicot underlines the fact that the American orchestras have been undergoing a rough patch in the recent times. He uses the example of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, which in spite of the massive investment that was made its creation, it has been accumulating debts and having a bleak future. This is also the case for Nashville Symphony, which has been accumulating deficits to the tune of $10 to $20 million per year. This shows an extremely bleak picture as far as the future of symphony orchestrais concerned. Indeed, similar sentiments are expressed by Jennie Dorris in The Audition , where she gives the story of Tetreault, a Colorado based percussionist who has put in 100 hour weeks... This statement is pointing at the increased disconnect between the likes and preferences of the youth population or rather the younger entrepreneurs and the ideas that are increasingly propagated by the orchestra players. It should be noted that a large number of individual donors and institutional funders are questioning the continued investment in orchestras, yet the musicians continue to build their hopes on the efficiency of renewed fundraising efforts without considering the change or dynamic nature of the feelings of younger generations regarding this type of music. In essence, the orchestra musicians simply want to ignore their current need for gratification and instead pay attention to ideas that are alien to them. This should point to what is already wrong with the orchestra world of music. Of course, there are people who are attracted to it simply because it sets them apart from the masses who would not feel at ease paying excessively for a type of music that does not offer gratification to their immediate needs. However, a vast majority would only feel comfortable paying for music that appeals to their souls. Essentially, it should be clear that the financial problems that are attributable to the ... • 45. Persuasive Functions Of John L. LewisSpeech Persuasive Functions of John L. Lewis Speech John L. Lewis was the only proponent of established labor unions in the 20th century. He successfully led the labor movement that pushed for equal treatment of labor workers despite the terrible economic condition. Lewis spent his formative years in Iowa. As an adult, he was unsuccessful in entering the world of politics and business. After he moved to Panama, Illinois he was first elected president of the local United Mine Workers union. Next, Lewis was appointed an AFL organizer by Samuel Gompers in 1911. His second UMW appointment was as a delegate to the AFL Convention in 1916. Finally, Lewis was appointed as vice president of the United Mine Workers Union. Lewis begins to prescribe courses of action for workers to be part of a movement that pushed for a labor union by organizing and uniting the discontented. In his speech he mentions enacting a policy to enable the workers to stand as a unit (Lewis 3). John Lewis used his speech at the AFL convention to establish himself as the leader of the labor movements and prescribe courses of action for the workers by altering perceptions of reality and identity. His speech at the American Federation of Labor allowed him to become the leader, but was ineffective in convincing the AFL to establish industrial unions. Furthermore, labor movements were part of the establishment (Jensen 29). Due to the strikes in labor unions, it was necessary for a new type of labor leader to arise. At ... • 46. Paradigm Shift Anthropology Marshall Sahlins has a quote that we stand on the shoulders of giants to shit on their heads reflects the idea of paradigm shift. The shoulders personify the collective knowledge of those researchers before us, as students it is where we gain our information. It is not through our own work that we initially study our respective fields; we study the accumulation of work that those giants have codified. The shit represents new ideas, criticism, and reworking of the previously held beliefs. The constant questioning of beliefs, seeking new answers is an intrinsic feature of scientific inquiry. This holds true not only in the hard sciences but in the social sciences as well, some may say to an even greater extent, due to the nature of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boas reliance on empirical data to formulate theories underscores Kuhn s central idea that paradigms are only changed through examination of new data. As data on cultures preceding Boas was slim at best, it is not hard to see how Boas could acquire data contrary to the existing viewpoint. This data collection itself was a new theory, the new invention required. Kuhnian thought states that preparadigmatic schools emphasize the collection of the facts, as Boas was emphasizing. Crisis within the paradigm is witnessed by the competition between the schools of thought. Emerging from this crisis is Boasian anthropology, with its reliance on empirical data as the basis for study. This data collection is subdivided into the four subfields Boas saw as a requirement for this new field. The four field approach emerges as the dominant force in anthropology. With this approach the community changes its view of the field, and produces new methods and goals. These methods and goals have been used as a professional consensus in anthropology since the Boasian transformation. It may be argued that the Boasian example is not indicative of a paradigm shift, as anthropology itself was too new a field to have a consensus. Whether or not the data gathered resulted from anomalies in his working paradigm is a consideration. Boas does appear to have stepped outside the bounds of the paradigm from the start, never attempting to fit his data into the existing evolutionary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
