Similarities Between Catherine The Great And Napoleon...
Rulers; What makes a successful one? Some could argue the accumulation of land and wealth are
the defining factors. Others would assert that population size and control over it maketh a great
ruler. All these factors are quite obviously good indicators of an empire on the rise, but not
necessarily indicators of good ruling. It appears to me that great rulers build their empire like a
sports franchise builds their team; around a centralized figure. The centralized figure in regards to
empire is the ruler of said empire. They demand the respect and loyalty of their constituents, and any
resistance to such demands is met with the harshest of reprimands. Successful rulers make
themselves a mandatory fixture into the society they have built. We... Show more content on

Napoleon actions in power appear to completely contradict his supposed beliefs during the French
Revolution, as he reverted back to former times in regards to his power, his administration, and
even his self appointed title of emperor. One could suggest that Napoleon utilized the ideals of the
revolution to put himself into power with no actual regard for the beliefs of the people who
placed him there. With that said, his prominence as a ruler can be explained through his military
might, oppressive and unequal policies amongst his constituents, and his successful method of
delegating authority over territories to his family and other loyal subjects. Catherine the Great, in
a similar fashion to Napoleon, used her power to deny or limit the rights and knowledge of her
subjects, as she did when attempting to keep the dialogue of the French Revolution out of her
empire. Her consolidation of the social classes served to keep people in their place while
simultaneously giving her more structure and stability over her empire. These rulers showcase a
style of rule that is oppressive, unequal, and yet wildly

Fastball s Loss Of Self-Confidence Skills
The reason I am writing to you, all involved with the league s management, is for you to alter the
position you take on pushing the players harder and making them be able to play competitively. I
ask you, respectfully, to contemplate about how many valuable players we have and how to bring
out their full potential. It appears to be that the players are lacking motivational and many skill
causing them to suffer defeat in many of their games.. Envision that you are in the last inning of
the game and the opponent has chance to up your score. You want to make sure the hitter doesn t
make contact with the ball and to make your team proud of you. You know that the batter is
unable to hit curve balls, but you can t throw one. You lose your self confidence and throw a
fastball hoping he would miss it. Unfortunately, they hit and score, and your team return home with
another loss in their hands. People start leaving the team thinking they have no chance in ever
winning a game or even being a good player. This is a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the majority of players actually fail to perform good because they weren t recognized by the
coach and he or she hasn t be able to put forth that skill. In fact, competition drives us to learn at a

able recognize what we are able to do. Another trait that s builds within us is that we can manage
our temper and be able to persist. This trait proves to be useful in later years when they go for job
interviews and presentations. As we all know, the world is all about competition, and many
children fear that competition and try to hide from as much as they can. So it is your responsibility
to push on them and make sure that they realize there is nothing fear and anything can be done if

Essay On Simulation Violence
Is Simulated Violence Causing Dangerous Behavior?
It has been argued for years, does simulated violence make people more violent? Many people
have different opinions and are pretty split on the subject. Jay Hull, who is part of Dartmouth
College claims, Play of these Mature rated, risk glorifying games was associated with subsequent
increase in sensation seeking ... hanging out with kids who smoke cigarettes ... and thinking one
would like to try drinking and smoking. (Barclay). This quote demonstrates that when people play
these violent games, they look for more rebellious activities. While our video games are growing in
details and realisticness, so is the violence. Once we find ways to simulate something, we go
overboard with the idea. Right now, video games simulating violence have been ... Show more

Many who play video games will agree, it s easy to get addicted. Even more so is that you could
get emotionally connected to that game. Those games, especially violent ones, can be an outlet of
aggression for those who feel more angry. However, what happens when this outlet does not fulfil
the satisfaction of letting out aggression anymore? What if someone went out into the real world
and did the actions in their violent games? As you can see, this could totally happen and this is
why games that simulate violence could cause aggression in some people (DO VIDEO GAMES
CAUSE VIOLENCE?). This evidence shows that even if people play violent games to let their
aggression out, it may not do the job and they could go do crimes out in the real world. People
who do these crimes inspired by video games usually do this to let out their aggression or do it
because they enjoy it. Another piece of evidence is that those who are addicted to violent games
have more aggression. According to Forbes.com, The Aurora shooter, James Holmes, the Sandy
Hook shooter, Adam Lanza, they re all described as essentially being addicted to video games.

The Social, Economic, and Political Implications of the...
The history of the conquest and colonization of the Americas is very complex. The social,
economic, and political issues and circumstances that took place many years ago are the foundation
of who America is today. Most Americans do not realize how many people were affected by
immigration, or understand the real struggles and sacrifices that the indigenous people and the
colonists made for the freedoms we have today. During these historical events, many cultural, social,
and economical events were impacted. Historical Contributions or Achievements The first
American inhabitants are believed to have migrated from Asia about 18,000 years ago. Many
societies were built, and civilizations were formed by the Aztec, Olmec, Mayan,... Show more

Meanwhile, many people were killed or running for their lives. In1924, when the Border Patrol
was created, immigration was never viewed the same again. In 1929, the Stock Market crash,
which was the start of the great depression, and ended in 1941 with America s entry into World
War II. There were many other life changing events that have impacted the world not listed here,
but with these political, economical, and territorial changes, there comes displacement, poverty
and many other social changes, also. These changes are still impacting America today. (Carter,
2005). Impact on Cultural Identity The cultural of indigenous and immigrant people have been
greatly impacted by America s historical events. The descendants of Spain and Mexico
immigrants have since been subjected to many cultural struggles. Today, many Chicano
Americans do not know their heritage, or do not identify with their ancestors. Traditions and
customs are lost from one generation to the other. Many victories were won in the name of
Religion. Religion has also played an important role in the history of America. The colonists
came to America in order to have religious freedom, yet they imposed their religion on the
indigenous peoples. The colonists had religion in common; they identified themselves as
Christians . The indigenous peoples were viewed by colonists as savages, and to try to civilize
them. Many were killed, chased from their land, or taken into slavery (Noriega, 2010).

Analysis Of The Speech And Language Therapist s Caseload
The treatment of stammering has been reported as one of the least popular aspects of the speech
and language therapist s caseload (St Louis et al1993 cited in Crichton smith 2002) and speech
therapists give negative personality traits to people who stammer (Ruscello et al 1989). The
purpose of this study will be to investigate whether the attitudes of SLT s towards child
stammering have an effect on the intervention they are able to provide and what elements impact
on this. The focus will be on the speech therapist s views and the questions will be adapted to
cover any new topics that arise. It would be useful to have a growth in knowledge in this area to

In addition, this study focuses on clinician attitudes in general towards children who stammer and
doesn t specifically look at their views on therapy for this client group. Therefore, this proposed
study aims to build on the research carried out by Critchton Smith and focus on the therapy and
intervention for children who stammer.
Another study that has previously considered this subject is Cooper et al 1996 which looked at
clinician s attitudes towards stutterers and what they do in therapy with clients who stutter.
However this study was carried out with Speech and Language therapists in the USA, therefore
the proposed study will be carried out with British speech therapists as the attitudes may be very
different to those in the USA and may also have changed over the last 20 years after the
introduction of various training via Michael Palin and the Lidcombe centre. The cooper study also
outlined that 30% of therapists thought that therapy for school aged children would be ineffective
if they had no early intervention (Cooper et al 1996) Therefore in this study it would be useful to
see if therapist s attitudes have changed towards providing therapy for those who have not had early
intervention.
Therefore, after considering the previous literature the justification for carrying out this study
would be there has been no

injection of Hepatitis B vaccine (HBV) . He was successfully resuscitated at Coney Island Hospital
in New York. His chest x ray and CT scan showed evidence of pulmonary edema, bleeding, and

with four types of antibiotics and other medications.
Ryan had an MRI head exam and eye exam performed at 8 and 9 days after admission. Ryan s
MRI showed intracranial bleeding and his eye exam revealed retinal bleeding. They accused Ryan
s father for his injuries by shaking him vigorously (Shaken Baby Syndrome) (Strokes, 2014). The
court believed that the infection with Streptococcus pneumonia caused Ryan s illness and led to the
development of hemorrhagic pneumonia, hemolytic uremic syndrome, kidney and liver problems,

A Research Study On Behavioral Economics
The specific area of interest I focused on for this assignment is Behavioural Economics.
Behavioural Economics (BE) is a scientific discipline that involves the study of a variety of effects
on the economic decisions made both by institutions and individuals (Lunn, 2014). This is a
dynamic and exciting field and sub discipline within the field of economicsthat has gained much
popularity in recent years. Behavioural economists have the opportunity to make important
contributions in a variety of fields, including marketing and advertising, policymaking, and in
many other industries. In this essay, I discuss the field of Behavioural Economics and explore
current trends and important knowledge helpful for anyone interested in a future career in this
area. It is argued that Behavioural Economics is far more than a passing trend and will only grow
in importance, particularly in public policymaking; at the same time, researchers in the field need
to start addressing some of the theoretical and conceptual problems in the field if BE is to truly
realize its potential.
Key Findings
At its heart, BE is about helping make economic theory more capable of explaining economic
behaviours and decisions by providing more realistic foundations in psychology (Camerer
Loewenstein, 2004). The considerable popularity the field has gained in recent years has prompted
questions regarding whether it is a passing trend, or a field with lasting influence for a variety of
industries and areas of

Director Francis Ford Coppola s dramatization The Godfather is a standout amongst the most

business and basic achievement as such achieving that it routinely beat proficient and individual

brilliant exhibitions, jazzy heading, and an ageless soundtrack, there ought not be any miracle of

Pros And Cons Of Discrimination In Italy
Sometimes and this is something that go against the human rights is the discrimination, fans,
well... bad fans discriminate players. In Europe, most in Italy they discriminate the players that
have a different color of skin, like for example Balotelli, Balotelli suffered discrimination after he

of he is born in Ghana but he was adopted by a Italy family so he have the nationality of Italy.
Discrimination, the discrimination should be sanctioned, but police and nobody do nothing to
protect the rights of this player, and this acts of discrimination occurs in everywhere, in all the
stadiums of Italy and in all stadiums of South America, this is something serious and that people
have to become aware.
Why? Because actually children suffered the same acts of discrimination, last year I was in a
match for the tournament of all the schools of Guayaquil and Samborondon and before our game,
was a match between a school that is for students of a lower class and a school of high class and

The Impact Of Roman Military Reforms During The Late Republic
The five secondary sources chosen will express their reasonings for the Roman military reforms
during the Late Republic. Some sources will only state information of either the Maniple or Cohort
organization. All the sources will focus on the impact of the Roman military on its culture and
society. Wealth and social hierarchy was the fundamental factor in Roman life. Since the birth of the
Roman Republic, Rome established its military on class organization. The Maniple structure of the
Roman Military was determined by the age and wealth of an individual. Male Romans without the
economic surplus to buy arms would not be omitted into the legions of the Roman Republic. Free
male citizens could fight for the honor of defending Rome and their families.... Show more content

The new form of Cohort structure increased the number of recruitable soldiers and extended
military service by incorporating the lower classes of Plebeians into the Roman gears of war.
Poor free citizens could volunteer and become trained warriors, with arms and armor to equip
themselves. The notion of a professional military would be adopted by the Romans, known by
modern scholars as the Cohort structure. Gaius Marius would be the Roman general to push for a
reform of the old Maniple structure. He would become the primary inspiration for new military
organization. The Cohort structure would become the classical legion associated with the Roman
Empire. Throughout the Late Republic and Imperial Eras, Rome would expand to encompass the
Mediterranean and Western Europe.
In the short book On the Wings of Eagles: The Reforms of Gaius Marius and the Creation of Rome
s First Professional Soldiers, by Christopher Anthony Matthew, general Gaius Marius instated
reforms and developments which would become the stable of Roman military structure. The main
problem Matthew is trying to solve is how much of the Marian reforms have on the military

The United States Public Education System Essay
Most Americans believe that the United States public education system is largely based on the
principles of work ethic and equal opportunity. We are taught that a strong work ethic is important
in achieving good grades, and that these grades are crucial to attending elite universities and earning
scholarships. The aforementioned features are key components of the dominant American
ideology; a way of seeing that feels natural and inevitable. Although major institutions such as
schools legitimize a societal reward system based on merit and hard work, also known as a
meritocracy, the U.S. public education system evidently contains tremendous inequality, much of
which is maintained and produced through the institution itself. Furthermore, structural factors such
as cumulative advantage, which explains how those who are successful gain additional success,
offer an explanation for the inequalities in the school system that manifest unexpectedly and cannot
be solved by money. Through the legitimation of the dominant American ideology and the process
of cumulative advantage, the U.S. public education system perpetuates social inequality within the
classroom and provides additional power to those already born with better life chances. In social
theory, there exists a long standing debate over whether structure or agency is central in shaping
human behavior. While structure is the underlying set of rules for how a society works, agency is
the ability of the individual to exert choice

To his Coy Mistress and To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time
Carpe diem is a Latin term used in literature, the use of this term presses readers to seize the
moment. In the chosen poems, the authors mainly try to pursue women, by letting them know that
they have true physical beauty and should take advantage of their good looks while it lasts. The
word carpe diem impacts both poems, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick,
and To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell. In Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, to Make Much of
Time, he describes carpe diem by citing the shortness of life and by trying to persuade young
women to marry and enjoy their youth at its advantage before death. In the poem To His Coy
Mistress , Marvell explains more traits of carpe diem by persuading a certain woman in being
his wife. To persuade her he used examples of time and age fading her beauty and how it will
leave her with nothing once they re gone. Both poems compare to each other by persuading to
seize moments before old age and beauty disappears.
Herrick s To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time fits the meaning of carpe diem by encouraging the
beauty of youth and life itself. His calm and moralizing approach from the personal environment ...

Achievement of the Goals Set Down in the Charter Oath of...
Achievement of the Goals Set Down in the Charter Oath of 1868 by 1895
Soon after the Restoration, the Meiji leaders drafted an Oath for the Emperor to take. The Charter
Oath gave a general guideline for the new government and its future policy. It was proclaimed on 6
April 1868. The Emperor declared that his country was to establish assemblies and all policies to
be based upon wide consultation, to allow people to choose their occupation without class
restriction, to abolish the uncivilized customs, to learn useful and practical knowledge and the
national interest would override all other interests. After examining the result of certain reform
items, the goals set down in the Charter Oath were to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was consistent with the first article of the Charter Oath.
In order to create a modern state and to free labor for a modern economy, the old class divisions of
samurai, peasants, craftsmen and merchants were abolished in 1869. Individuals were free to take
up any occupation. However, the aim of this measure was to build up the state and social
improvements were only a by product. In 1876, the government went one step further and ordered
the samurai to discard their swords; the carrying of swords had been a symbol of their status for
hundreds of years. The outward distinction between samurai and commoners thus disappeared.
Judicial reforms were carried out to make past evils a crime. To achieve this, a French lawyer was
employed to head a committee to draft a criminal code for Japan. After some amendments to bring
them in line with the West, a modern legal procedure was introduced, including the ban on torture
and other evil customs.
The Charter Oath stressed that knowledge should be sought throughout the world. The emphasis on
education was thus obvious. One of the measures adopted by Japan was to send students to Europe
and the United States to gain first hand knowledge of the West and to acquire technical information.
The government also employed

Visions Of Nature Reflection Report
Visions of Nature Reflection
Visions of Nature Reflection When the Visions of Nature project was first explained in the
beginning of the course I was immediately worried about how I would be able to create
something that represented the natural world in an artistic way. Personally, I am not the most
skilled in the world of art through visual and esthetically pleasing mediums. My artistic peak was
reached in kindergarten when I made an impressive elephant with finger paint before the school
s annual trip to the National Zoo. At first I struggled with deciding what type of project to
pursue. I wanted to do something meaningful and original, but the best I could think of was
either to make a video or maybe a collage. It wasn t until I was walking back to my dorm room
late one night when it presented itself, literally. It was a pretty peaceful evening when I was
passing the Dominion residence building. I did not see or hear anyone or anything around me. It
was completely silent when out of nowhere a shopping cart came rolling off the top set of stairs
and crashed onto the grass in front of me. After the cart had ceased to move it was completely
silent again. That is when I decided that I would make a shopping cart garden. It would be an
interesting piece that would capture people s attention and would not require me to torture my
fellow classmates with my sub par finger painting. The garden would give a tangible source for
observers that would create a larger impact than

first lines of its second paragraph, ringing statements of principle that have served ever since as
the ideal to which Americans aspire. We hold these truths to be self evident; That all men are

Death Schone Magelone By Ludwig Tieck
Sind es Schumerzen, sind es Freuden ( are they sorrows or are they joys ) is a song from
Brahms song cycle Romanzen aus L. Tieck s Magelone, Op. 33 No. 3. As text for his song cycle,
Brahms chose excerpts from the novel Die schöne Magelone by Ludwig Tieck (1773 1853). The
novel tells a love story between Peter von Provence and Magelone, the king s daughter. In this
particular song, Peter and Magelone falls in love with each other. Though Brahms is most widely
known as an instrumental composer, more than half of his opus numbers are devoted to vocal
works. In Brahms song cycles, he avoided the traditional strophic forms. Instead, he chooses
dramatic shifts in music material, unpredictable harmonies, and sudden changes in tempoand
rhythm.
The song starts with an unusually long piano introduction that lasted 8 measures, gives an idea of
the large scale of this song. The rolled chords (mm.1 8) and broken octaves underneath the beautiful
melody suggesting Peter s lute. The vocal line begins with the expressive melody identical to the
beginning of the piano introduction. It is characterized by embellishments on words sind (to be),
busen (bosom) and wГјnsche (desire). Emphasizing Peter yearning for Magelone s love. The
second stanza is set to the same music as the first stanza, and Brahms even indicates this with a
repeat sign rather than notating the music twice. The harmony of the verse ends on a half cadence
but the chords at the last measure are not rolled, (mm.20)

The Technology Of Driverless Cars Essay
Driverless Cars also known as, autonomous vehicles, seem to be the next big thing when it comes
to the future advancement of cars. In fact, Autonomous automobile test models have been on the
road since 2009, so far driving hundreds of thousands of miles without an accident (McDonald
6). Since driverless cars are seeming to become a real thing in the future to come there s multiple
questions on how people feel about driverless cars. Is it a good thing? A bad thing? How will it
affect our society in years to come? Many people will argue that the technology of driverless cars
is a bad idea and will affect our society negatively in years to come. I argue that point and believe
that companies should introduce the technology of driverless cars because, it will have a
positive impact on, not only cars, but society in general in the mere future. When it comes to
driverless cars and the impact that the technology could bring, I m talking about the impact
within people s safety, the users convenience in mobility , the economy, and the technological
advances in the car itself. That s just a couple ways that a driverless car can be positive. In fact,
Thomas Frey, a futurist who researches and understands fully about the concept of driverless
vehicles states that, there s many aspects of driverless cars that are overwhelmingly positive (Frey
39). When it comes to people s safety, driverless cars could be safer than people driving in an
operated car. In the United States, the

Analysis Of Herod The Great ( Antipas And Philip )
In due course, Herod the Great (Antipas and Philip) transforms the Jewish territory into a thriving
Roman Judea; from a rough, largely agricultural land, to one boasting with modern cities, roads,
aqueducts and harbors. Particularly, the city of Caesarea Philippi became an eventful center for
the Greek Roman culture; known for its prestigious status as the capital city of Herod Philip and
its substantial gentile population. Hence, these facts demonstrate how commonplace pagan beliefs
were among the society that lives there. Along with this dominating, progressive side of Roman
life, their sexual influence befalls the area with its pagan presence. Besides the Jewish people, and
other religious sects, society s perspective towards sex becomes that of the pagan Roman Empire s
practices; essentially, allowing lust to flourish everywhere in its culture. As a result, the goat gods
popularity became significant, to the point of pagan s attempt at monotheism, (belief in one god);
which, escalates during this time and allegedly Pan, meaning all, became a good candidate for the
position. Although, the goat god never acquires full authorization, off the record, he gradually
transforms into an unofficial religion; one could say Pan became the leading enduring god of the
religion of lust.

Business Structures
There are four main forms of business structures. The structures of business differentiate based on
liability, tax implications, and what type of business is being evaluated when determining what
structure to use. This paper will cover the advantages and disadvantages within the four types of
business structures; Limited Liability Corporations, Corporations, Partnerships, and Sole
Proprietorships.
Corporations
A corporation is a standalone entity. There are two types of corporations, general or S Corp.

Partnerships A Partnership is a business form that consists of two or more individuals. There are
two types of partnerships; general and limited. General partners are liable for the full extent of debts
and obligations within the business. Limited partnerships provide individuals with a limitation of
responsibilities in the organization s liability; this type of partnership is dependent upon the
investment percentage. Advantages of partnerships consist of cost efficiency, shared financial
responsibility, complementary skill association, and offer employees partnership incentives.
Disadvantages of partnerships are joint and individual liability, disagreements between partners, and
shared profits ( U.S. Small Business Administration, 2013). Sole Proprietorship
A Sole Proprietorship is one owner. The advantages of a sole proprietorship exist in the
simplicity of taxes, cost efficiency in the startup process, and complete control of the organization.
A sole proprietorship structure is the simplest method of establishing a business, the expenses are
low and fewer licensing is required. A sole proprietor is responsible for the final decisions and
directions of the business. The taxes are reported through the individual at a much lower rate than
any of the other structures. The disadvantages of a sole proprietorship are the personal liability
risks and capital; the individual absorbs all legal implications within the

Failing Forward Explains That Most People Fail At Some
Failing Forward explains that most people fail at some point in their lives it is how you chose to
learn from the failures. These failures allow us to learn from our mistakes. You can turn a
failure into a learning experience and while it is hard to face any type of failure once you accept
that you failed you can grow from that situation. The book takes into account that failure is
unavoidable and you need to learn from all your mistakes. When I first received the decision of
my case I was devastated. I thought all my hard work was for nothing until I read Failing Forward.
I have received much knowledge from reading the book.

People cannot give up trying just because they failed at one thing. When people quit at the first
sign of failure they will never know if they could have succeeded in something else. Failure is
temporary. It is not a lifelong event. Failures are individual incidents in which mistakes are made
they do not define the future. In order to achieve people must keep a realistic expectation. For
example, setbacks do not fix themselves over night. It takes time to be able to move forward from
a failure. The best way to overcome setbacks is to remember success. If one focusses on the only
thing they failed in and not their achievements, it will take longer to overcome failure. Once you
focus on your strengths and how those strengths can be utilized in situations your weaknesses will
not define the situations. Thomas Edison said, Many of life s failures are people who did not
realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
Taking action is the next step to failing forward. Failure can cause many emotional problems. One
of these problems is fear. As described in the book, there are three things brought on by fear that
prohibit people from taking action. Firstly, Paralysis keeps people from taking action because they
fear failure. Once someone fails, they do not want to fail again so they do nothing to promote
failure or success. Procrastination makes taking action forward much harder. When someone
procrastinates, they are burning the potential to work

Spreading Your Wings Essay
The mythological story of Icarus is ...interpreted variously as an allegory of pride, or of man s
quest for knowledge, as The Bloomsbury Guide to Art stated in their article ( Icarus ). This idea
of the quest of knowledge itself applies to the work of Russell Whiting, a sculptor whose work is
featured in the River Gallery SculpturePark of Chattanooga and who sculpted a statue of Icarus as
well. In correlation with the interpretation of the story of Icarus being a man s quest for
knowledge, Whiting did not just fall in love with the process of carving steel, but also with the
potential for self expression, variation, and knowledge regarding steel still left to be attained. The

Here, Whiting emphasizes the fact that he does not specifically analyze or try to represent his
work, though often originating from other previous artist facets, in a certain manner. Rather, he
lets his artistic expression flow out of him and leaves the analysis to his viewers. Therefore,
being fully open to interpretation, a viewer may infer a variety of things from Whiting s
sculpture of Icarus. Approaching the piece from an iconographic perspective, Icarus conveys a
sense of freedom and the presence of ignorance and naivety associated with being young. For
some, an acknowledgeable aspect of the piece may be the fact that he chose to suspend Icarus
off the side of the hill at the far end of the garden. In fact, the anchoring which holds him up is
built in such a way as to elude the public to believe he is not attached at all but merely freely
leaning out over the crisp water with his outstretched wings. Whiting also paid a remarkable
amount of attention to the texture present on the wings and the muscular tone of the body. The
tone and idealization of the body, which is anatomically similar to that of a boy, is realistic with
hints of idealization of form. Furthermore, an interesting aspect of Icarus being placed distantly
over the water is that his face is hidden from viewers. Whiting may have chosen to position him
like this so as to incorporate a sense of mystery and add to the psychological value of the piece.

Analysis Of The Movie Platoon
The movie Platoon reveals many different things about the nature of warfare in the post war era.
Platoon shows us what it was like being a soldier during that time. From drug use being so relevant
during that time to cope with stress to soldiers showing ruthlessness in many different scenarios like
the killing of many innocent people, and even betrayal within each other.
The drug abuse during the post war era was very great and relevant. Soldiers needed a way to
relieve their stress during the war. Thoughts of being with their parents once again would haunt
them. Drugs like marijuana and alcohol were used daily to cope with their daily stress. These
drugs are known to play with your brain which could ve caused indecisiveness or bad decisions.
The actions of one could displease another and lead to conflicts. In the movie Platoon, soldiers
would gather in their camps and use these drugs. They would use these drugs because they didn t
know if they would ever go back home and these drugs helped them escape these thoughts. These
drugs could have led to unprofessional behavior and lead to conflicts between their own people.
For some soldiers, drugs have helped them continue to fight the war and for other soldiers, it
created a very toxic environment.
The post war era was also a very ruthless era. With the killing of many innocent Vietnamese
people to the raping of little girls. The movie Platoon shows us just how little anybody cared about
these innocent people. Since this was the post war era many soldiers had the fear that some of the
innocent people could have been fighters, so they wouldn t want to take any chances of dying and
murder them before they could make any moves. A scene from Platoon shows when the squad
invaded a village and had all the villagers sit outside. Sergeant Barnes had killed the elderly lady
and then had threatened to kill the man s daughter. Sergeant Elias comes by and sees Sergeant
Barnes with a pistol to a young girls head and stops him immediately, Elias fights Sergeant
Barnes in order to call off the order of killing the whole village. Another scene would be after the
squad was done setting fire to the village, some of the soldiers took little girls to a little spot and

This is probably the reason that doing business in China is currently so challenging. In addition,
there is always the language barrier to overcome as well. Despite the fact that most Chinese are
learning English as their second language, there is no doubt that being able to speak Chinese as an
American coming to China for business has a huge advantage over the rest of the competition.
Another challenge is that despite the ability to manufacture products cheaper in China, there is a
flip side to this situation and that is that sometimes, that made in America sign on the back of a
product could mean more than the few dollars more it costs to buy that product. Some Americans,
in their spirit of patriotism, care more about supporting the American economy than saving a little
bit here and there buying products that were manufactured outside of the United States. Balancing
the stigma sometimes associated with making a product in a foreign country with the lower costs
that usually comes along with that is important in doing business in China as well. As one can see,
there is ample opportunity for business in China. China s economy is expanding very quickly. In
order to be successful overseas however, there are many important points to keep in mind. In

is a really smart way of collecting money in order to pay past debts for a nation, but at the same
time, the people are also aware of the fact that they should not be the one responsible for such

Mental Health Problems And Violence Among Criminal Offenders
Assessment 1
The main topic of study is to determine whether there is a correlation between mental health
problems and violence among criminal offenders. The purpose of the study conducted by (Felson,
Silver and Vaneseltine) was to examine whether criminal offenders with mental health problems
were more likely to commit violent crimes in comparison to offenders without mental health
problems. (p 405). There are elements which will be critiqued and analysed further.
There is a focus of a particular type of study which is the relationship between mental health
problems and violence against criminal offenders. The problem is researchable and can be
investigated through the collection and analysis of data this is evident in the article which ... Show

The text is organised very clearly with sub headings for different elements which were researched
by the authors.
One of the key issues is the generalisation of the data produced. Although there were approximately
17,000 participants, all of the participants were criminal offenders, who had not been committed to
a psychiatric institution; therefore it is difficult to determine whether there is any connection with
individuals with mental health problems and the violence committed by them. There are
researchers who will agree with the hypothesis put forward in this journal article however there are
researchers who claim that there is not strong enough evidence to suggest whether or not the
hypothesis can be held true. Moreover, the important elements have been excluded from this study
such as, alcohol and drug use.
In addition, the method used had variables which could not be controlled. In the instance of the
participants, it is quite common for the participants of the study to lie about whether or not they
suffer from mental health problems. This may be due to the participants being aware of how they
may be perceived by society and the general public. The data provided by the participants can be
affected by social desirability,

Leadership Is An Integral Part Of Society Essay
Leadership is an integral part of society, without leadership there would be chaos. Leadership calls
for action in terms of guidance, decision making, structure and control, these qualities are necessary
and evident within organizations. After World War I organizations were finding it difficult to
organize and operate efficiently. It was in this period Frederick Taylor s Scientific Management
framework took precedence in organizations. Taylor introduced a systematic, strategic and scientific
method to aid organizations in recovering from the effects of the war, moving towards high levels
of productivity, efficacy and efficiency.
Taylor s principles highlighted the need for division of responsibility, a systematic and strategic way
of choosing and training employees for specific roles, breaking down jobs into smaller tasks and
extending to management the responsibility of setting objectives for the organization. Following
Taylor was French industrialist, Henri Fayol who contributed the administrative structure of
planning, coordinating, commanding, controlling and organizing. Within this defining period of
the Industrial Revolution, management theories, literature contributions, and scientific inquiry
began to advance. Various schools of thought became prominent in Europe, which trickled down to
the West. The move for an industrialized world was taking form, creating structure, rules, and
procedures to ensure continuity in these industries. Max Weber, a German sociologist

In a world where we can find identical merchandise in more than one store, layout and
presentation become key differentiating factors. Create Your Store for Your Target Customer
You can have the most unique, creative and different store on the planet, but if doesn t conform
to what your customers want and expect, then it is of no value. Retail has always been, and will
always be, about the consumer. Your entire store concept must be built around your target
customer. Succeed at satisfying this shopper and you win the game. Build and design a store
that looks beautiful but doesn t fit the marketplace and the only people who will be happy are
the architect and contractors. Take a Strategic Approach Unfortunately, the days of running a
traditional Ma and Pa operation, lacking any real business sophistication, are long gone. A
haphazard approach to store layout generates less than desired results. You must squeeze every
ounce of potential out of your store to make it a winner. How you present your store is a very
strategic part of your business. In order to position every item in its proper location, you must
have a far more detailed plan than the usual It was the only place left available, so that s where it

Heterozygotes, which have the wild type phenotype, have normal sight which gives them the
advantage of finding a mate and have a better success with attracting a mate with their courtship
song (Kyriacou et al, 1978). The male heterozygous Drosophila had a better advantage at mating
than the homozygotes, which were the ebony, and therefore we predict there will be more wild
type by the end of the experiment. METHODS: In this experiment, the instructor provided us
with 30 ebony individuals and 20 wild type individuals. In order to get an exact amount of each
type, we anesthetized the flies and counted them off by gently using a fine point paint brush.
Then all 50 Drosophila were put into a population cage which had a lid that had six holes for the
centrifuge tubes. Two food tubes and four clean, empty tubes were added on the first day. Each
food tube consisted of half a cup full of food mixed with 6 7 milliliters of water. This was the fly
medium. The food should turn blue once the water is added. Each tube was labeled with a
number and with the date. Every two to three days we added one more food tube until all 6 tubes
contained the fly medium. After all 6 tubes were filled, the following days after we exchanged the
first food tube with a new food tube. At the end of the experiment, we fed the flies with a total of
8 food tubes. Then the flies were anesthetized, again. At the end of this four week lab, the number

Whole grain is a great brain stimulator because it contains high percentage of folate.
Make sure you re eating a diet rich in whole grain breads, cereals, barley, popcorn, etc., because
they can boost your blood flow to the brain. Every organ in the body is dependent on blood flow...
especially the brain.
Wholegrain breads and cereals are rich in Vitamin B6, an important brain vitamin. Wheat germ
additionally contains memory improving thiamine.
Nuts
Everything from the most common nuts such as walnuts, hazelnuts, cashews and almonds to the
more exotic seeds and nuts can clear up that brain fog and enable you to think clearer and are
positive mood enhancers.
2. Walnuts
Both literally and figuratively speaking, walnuts are brain food . Physically the walnut looks a lot
like the human brain. The thin, outer green cover that is taken out before the walnuts are sold is
similar to the scalp. The hard shell of a walnut is like a skull. The thin sheet inside, with its paper
like partitions between the two halves of the walnut, is like the membrane. The shape of the walnut
itself represents the human brain s two hemispheres. Walnuts are made up of 15 to 20 percent
protein and contain linoleic (omega 6 fatty acids) and alpha linoleic acids (omega 3 fatty acids),
vitamin E and vitamin B6, making them an excellent source of nourishment for your nervous system

In order to obtain accurate results, Finkelstein interviews 50 street youths from East Village of
New York City. Furthermore, the number of males and females interviewed were almost
proportionally equal, as there were 26 males and 24 females. She then also records the age these
youths left home, in order to decide if there are any correlations between the age the youth left home
and the number of youths that left home (2005, 15). The author applies cultural and moral
relativism throughout her entire case study. She states that she did not prepare a fixed set of
questions; rather she allowed the youths to generate the questions based on their interaction with
her (2005,11). Finkelstein demonstrates her prowess by interchanging when she conducts
interviews and when she solely observes the behavior of the youths. The ethnographic methods used
by Finkelstein are similar to those employed by Marcelo Diversi, the author of Street Kids in Nikes:
In Search of Humanization through the Culture of Consumption. Diversi s ethnography focuses on
street youths in Brazil and the impact that American pop culture has on them (Diversi, 2006). Even
though, both Finkelstein s and Diversi s ethnographies focus on two separate issues, the means of
their research contain glaring similarities. Both Diversi and Finkelstein utilize participant
observation and they interview the street youths. Moreover they both choose to not live amongst

Experimental Research And Experimental Methods
Experimental
To be competitive as renewable energy recourse turbines in wave energy generation must be robust
and economical for a number of years. Approaches utilize experiments to characterize and predict
the effect of parameters involved. One of which is advancements to turbine blades due to unsteady
hydrodynamic loads. Characterizing these loads can determine their fatigue life and determine a
more reliable material to be used for manufacturing the blades avoiding premature failure.
Reliability is necessary due to most renewable wave energy devices are being placed in remote
locations where it is not economical to maintain or replace failed hardware. Turbulent flow across
the turbine blade creates moments and bending of the blades ... Show more content on

This loading in a circular motion is associated with yet another type of loading which is dynamic
inflow.
The objective of recent experiments is to study and experimentally quantify the unsteady loads on
a horizontal axis turbine blade from turbulent forces with similar operating conditions in which the
boundary layer is maintained along the edges of the blades. Therefore a new data set was to be
obtained providing bending moment responses to oscillatory frequencies and velocity amplitudes.
By performing a series of multi frequency and half sinusoidal experiments may demonstrate
whether single frequency forcing could be applied to model these more general responses2. A
recent article titled Blade Loading on Tidal Turbines for Uniform Unsteady Flow2 performs the
experiment with valid materials and methods in order to better predict this phenomenon of
turbulent loads and fatigue life along with the results of the experiment.
Another recent experimental approach is decreasing cost per installed kilowatt. In order to utilize
alternative energy such as wave energy it must be as cheap or as cost effective as current energy
sources such as fossil fuels. Harnessing energy from alternative sources and then converting the
energy into electrical energy would reduce the demand of current processes. Worldwide ocean
power capacity is approximately 6 Megawatts and over the next few years it is projected to increase
to 35 Megawatts3. For this reason

Wheel Alignment Essay
Rotating your tires is a standard part of your car s preventative maintenance and typically should
be done every 6,000 to 8,000 miles. This helps your tires last longer by allowing them to wear
evenly. You may have found that when you take your car in for a tire rotation, the auto shop might
recommend you have a wheel alignment performed at the same time. But is this really necessary?
To provide some clarity on the issue, the professionals at Dee s Auto Care Specialists in La Crosse
and Onalaska, WI, and Winona, MN, answer some frequently asked questions about wheel
alignment.
4 FAQs About Wheel Alignment

If they re out of alignment by even a small degree, your tires may not perform as well as they
should.
What Happens During the Alignment?
All tire shops and most auto repair shops perform alignments. The process involves an alignment
machine, operating by a trained technician, which uses a computer to calculate precision
measurements. The technician makes adjustments to several suspension angles (caster, camber,
thrust, and toe) so they meet the vehicle manufacturer s specifications. The technician will also
check to make sure your steering wheel is centered. You should receive a printed report detailing
the wheel angles before and after the alignment, so you can see for yourself which adjustments
occurred.
When Is an Alignment Necessary?
If you ve noticed your call pulling to one side or the other while driving, excessive steering wheel
vibration, or uneven wear on your tires, it s probably time for an alignment. When getting new
tires, checking the alignment is recommended. In general, however, an alignment performed after
every tire rotation isn t necessary. Have your wheel alignment inspected at least once per year
when the steering feels off or if you re involved in an

Comparison Of The Progressive And Populist Movement
The Progressive and Populist Movements of the Late 19th and early 20th century were both
movements that sought to give specific groups in the population better representation/rights as a
whole. The Populist Movement began due to major economic changes brought on by the railroad.
Farmers could no longer make a living selling their crops due to overproduction leading to low
prices. The Populist Partywas established in order to promote the economic and political interests
of farmers. One notable member of the Populist Party was William Jennings Bryan, a Presidential
candidate who believed in inflating the money supply and the coinage of silver. The party would
go on to create Granger Laws, laws designed to place government regulations on railroads.

  • 2. Similarities Between Catherine The Great And Napoleon... Rulers; What makes a successful one? Some could argue the accumulation of land and wealth are the defining factors. Others would assert that population size and control over it maketh a great ruler. All these factors are quite obviously good indicators of an empire on the rise, but not necessarily indicators of good ruling. It appears to me that great rulers build their empire like a sports franchise builds their team; around a centralized figure. The centralized figure in regards to empire is the ruler of said empire. They demand the respect and loyalty of their constituents, and any resistance to such demands is met with the harshest of reprimands. Successful rulers make themselves a mandatory fixture into the society they have built. We... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Napoleon actions in power appear to completely contradict his supposed beliefs during the French Revolution, as he reverted back to former times in regards to his power, his administration, and even his self appointed title of emperor. One could suggest that Napoleon utilized the ideals of the revolution to put himself into power with no actual regard for the beliefs of the people who placed him there. With that said, his prominence as a ruler can be explained through his military might, oppressive and unequal policies amongst his constituents, and his successful method of delegating authority over territories to his family and other loyal subjects. Catherine the Great, in a similar fashion to Napoleon, used her power to deny or limit the rights and knowledge of her subjects, as she did when attempting to keep the dialogue of the French Revolution out of her empire. Her consolidation of the social classes served to keep people in their place while simultaneously giving her more structure and stability over her empire. These rulers showcase a style of rule that is oppressive, unequal, and yet wildly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Fastball s Loss Of Self-Confidence Skills The reason I am writing to you, all involved with the league s management, is for you to alter the position you take on pushing the players harder and making them be able to play competitively. I ask you, respectfully, to contemplate about how many valuable players we have and how to bring out their full potential. It appears to be that the players are lacking motivational and many skill causing them to suffer defeat in many of their games.. Envision that you are in the last inning of the game and the opponent has chance to up your score. You want to make sure the hitter doesn t make contact with the ball and to make your team proud of you. You know that the batter is unable to hit curve balls, but you can t throw one. You lose your self confidence and throw a fastball hoping he would miss it. Unfortunately, they hit and score, and your team return home with another loss in their hands. People start leaving the team thinking they have no chance in ever winning a game or even being a good player. This is a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the majority of players actually fail to perform good because they weren t recognized by the coach and he or she hasn t be able to put forth that skill. In fact, competition drives us to learn at a faster rate and perform at a higher level. It makes us work harder and faster. In doing so we are able recognize what we are able to do. Another trait that s builds within us is that we can manage our temper and be able to persist. This trait proves to be useful in later years when they go for job interviews and presentations. As we all know, the world is all about competition, and many children fear that competition and try to hide from as much as they can. • 4. Essay On Simulation Violence Is Simulated Violence Causing Dangerous Behavior? It has been argued for years, does simulated violence make people more violent? Many people have different opinions and are pretty split on the subject. Jay Hull, who is part of Dartmouth College claims, Play of these Mature rated, risk glorifying games was associated with subsequent increase in sensation seeking ... hanging out with kids who smoke cigarettes ... and thinking one would like to try drinking and smoking. (Barclay). This quote demonstrates that when people play these violent games, they look for more rebellious activities. While our video games are growing in details and realisticness, so is the violence. Once we find ways to simulate something, we go overboard with the idea. Right now, video games simulating violence have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many who play video games will agree, it s easy to get addicted. Even more so is that you could get emotionally connected to that game. Those games, especially violent ones, can be an outlet of aggression for those who feel more angry. However, what happens when this outlet does not fulfil the satisfaction of letting out aggression anymore? What if someone went out into the real world and did the actions in their violent games? As you can see, this could totally happen and this is why games that simulate violence could cause aggression in some people (DO VIDEO GAMES CAUSE VIOLENCE?). This evidence shows that even if people play violent games to let their aggression out, it may not do the job and they could go do crimes out in the real world. People who do these crimes inspired by video games usually do this to let out their aggression or do it because they enjoy it. Another piece of evidence is that those who are addicted to violent games have more aggression. According to Forbes.com, The Aurora shooter, James Holmes, the Sandy Hook shooter, Adam Lanza, they re all described as essentially being addicted to video games. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Social, Economic, and Political Implications of the... The history of the conquest and colonization of the Americas is very complex. The social, economic, and political issues and circumstances that took place many years ago are the foundation of who America is today. Most Americans do not realize how many people were affected by immigration, or understand the real struggles and sacrifices that the indigenous people and the colonists made for the freedoms we have today. During these historical events, many cultural, social, and economical events were impacted. Historical Contributions or Achievements The first American inhabitants are believed to have migrated from Asia about 18,000 years ago. Many societies were built, and civilizations were formed by the Aztec, Olmec, Mayan,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Meanwhile, many people were killed or running for their lives. In1924, when the Border Patrol was created, immigration was never viewed the same again. In 1929, the Stock Market crash, which was the start of the great depression, and ended in 1941 with America s entry into World War II. There were many other life changing events that have impacted the world not listed here, but with these political, economical, and territorial changes, there comes displacement, poverty and many other social changes, also. These changes are still impacting America today. (Carter, 2005). Impact on Cultural Identity The cultural of indigenous and immigrant people have been greatly impacted by America s historical events. The descendants of Spain and Mexico immigrants have since been subjected to many cultural struggles. Today, many Chicano Americans do not know their heritage, or do not identify with their ancestors. Traditions and customs are lost from one generation to the other. Many victories were won in the name of Religion. Religion has also played an important role in the history of America. The colonists came to America in order to have religious freedom, yet they imposed their religion on the indigenous peoples. The colonists had religion in common; they identified themselves as Christians . The indigenous peoples were viewed by colonists as savages, and to try to civilize them. Many were killed, chased from their land, or taken into slavery (Noriega, 2010). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of The Speech And Language Therapist s Caseload The treatment of stammering has been reported as one of the least popular aspects of the speech and language therapist s caseload (St Louis et al1993 cited in Crichton smith 2002) and speech therapists give negative personality traits to people who stammer (Ruscello et al 1989). The purpose of this study will be to investigate whether the attitudes of SLT s towards child stammering have an effect on the intervention they are able to provide and what elements impact on this. The focus will be on the speech therapist s views and the questions will be adapted to cover any new topics that arise. In addition, this study focuses on clinician attitudes in general towards children who stammer and doesn t specifically look at their views on therapy for this client group. Therefore, this proposed study aims to build on the research carried out by Critchton Smith and focus on the therapy and intervention for children who stammer. Another study that has previously considered this subject is Cooper et al 1996 which looked at clinician s attitudes towards stutterers and what they do in therapy with clients who stutter. However this study was carried out with Speech and Language therapists in the USA, therefore the proposed study will be carried out with British speech therapists as the attitudes may be very different to those in the USA and may also have changed over the last 20 years after the introduction of various training via Michael Palin and the Lidcombe centre. The cooper study also outlined that 30% of therapists thought that therapy for school aged children would be ineffective if they had no early intervention (Cooper et al 1996) Therefore in this study it would be useful to see if therapist s attitudes have changed towards providing therapy for those who have not had early intervention. Therefore, after considering the previous literature the justification for carrying out this study would be there has been no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. A Research Study On Behavioral Economics The specific area of interest I focused on for this assignment is Behavioural Economics. Behavioural Economics (BE) is a scientific discipline that involves the study of a variety of effects on the economic decisions made both by institutions and individuals (Lunn, 2014). This is a dynamic and exciting field and sub discipline within the field of economicsthat has gained much popularity in recent years. Behavioural economists have the opportunity to make important contributions in a variety of fields, including marketing and advertising, policymaking, and in many other industries. In this essay, I discuss the field of Behavioural Economics and explore current trends and important knowledge helpful for anyone interested in a future career in this area. It is argued that Behavioural Economics is far more than a passing trend and will only grow in importance, particularly in public policymaking; at the same time, researchers in the field need to start addressing some of the theoretical and conceptual problems in the field if BE is to truly realize its potential. Key Findings At its heart, BE is about helping make economic theory more capable of explaining economic behaviours and decisions by providing more realistic foundations in psychology (Camerer Loewenstein, 2004). The considerable popularity the field has gained in recent years has prompted questions regarding whether it is a passing trend, or a field with lasting influence for a variety of industries and areas of ... In Europe, most in Italy they discriminate the players that have a different color of skin, like for example Balotelli, Balotelli suffered discrimination after he join to the A.C Milan, ultras of the rival of Milan sing There are no niggas in Italy... that because of he is born in Ghana but he was adopted by a Italy family so he have the nationality of Italy. Discrimination, the discrimination should be sanctioned, but police and nobody do nothing to protect the rights of this player, and this acts of discrimination occurs in everywhere, in all the stadiums of Italy and in all stadiums of South America, this is something serious and that people have to become aware. Why? Because actually children suffered the same acts of discrimination, last year I was in a match for the tournament of all the schools of Guayaquil and Samborondon and before our game, was a match between a school that is for students of a lower class and a school of high class and the school that was for high class and you expect that students of that school be educated, but no!, the students of that school discriminate the other only for the color of the skin, and for being lower class than theirs, so the education is ... Some sources will only state information of either the Maniple or Cohort organization. All the sources will focus on the impact of the Roman military on its culture and society. Wealth and social hierarchy was the fundamental factor in Roman life. Since the birth of the Roman Republic, Rome established its military on class organization. The Maniple structure of the Roman Military was determined by the age and wealth of an individual. The new form of Cohort structure increased the number of recruitable soldiers and extended military service by incorporating the lower classes of Plebeians into the Roman gears of war. The notion of a professional military would be adopted by the Romans, known by modern scholars as the Cohort structure. Gaius Marius would be the Roman general to push for a reform of the old Maniple structure. He would become the primary inspiration for new military organization. The Cohort structure would become the classical legion associated with the Roman Empire. Throughout the Late Republic and Imperial Eras, Rome would expand to encompass the Mediterranean and Western Europe. In the short book On the Wings of Eagles: The Reforms of Gaius Marius and the Creation of Rome s First Professional Soldiers, by Christopher Anthony Matthew, general Gaius Marius instated reforms and developments which would become the stable of Roman military structure. • 14. The United States Public Education System Essay Most Americans believe that the United States public education system is largely based on the principles of work ethic and equal opportunity. We are taught that a strong work ethic is important in achieving good grades, and that these grades are crucial to attending elite universities and earning scholarships. The aforementioned features are key components of the dominant American ideology; a way of seeing that feels natural and inevitable. Although major institutions such as schools legitimize a societal reward system based on merit and hard work, also known as a meritocracy, the U.S. public education system evidently contains tremendous inequality, much of which is maintained and produced through the institution itself. Furthermore, structural factors such as cumulative advantage, which explains how those who are successful gain additional success, offer an explanation for the inequalities in the school system that manifest unexpectedly and cannot be solved by money. Through the legitimation of the dominant American ideology and the process of cumulative advantage, the U.S. public education system perpetuates social inequality within the classroom and provides additional power to those already born with better life chances. In social theory, there exists a long standing debate over whether structure or agency is central in shaping human behavior. While structure is the underlying set of rules for how a society works, agency is the ability of the individual to exert choice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To his Coy Mistress and To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time Carpe diem is a Latin term used in literature, the use of this term presses readers to seize the moment. In the chosen poems, the authors mainly try to pursue women, by letting them know that they have true physical beauty and should take advantage of their good looks while it lasts. The word carpe diem impacts both poems, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time by Robert Herrick, and To His Coy Mistress by Andrew Marvell. In Herrick s poem, To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time, he describes carpe diem by citing the shortness of life and by trying to persuade young women to marry and enjoy their youth at its advantage before death. In the poem To His Coy Mistress , Marvell explains more traits of carpe diem by persuading a certain woman in being his wife. To persuade her he used examples of time and age fading her beauty and how it will leave her with nothing once they re gone. In order to achieve people must keep a realistic expectation. For example, setbacks do not fix themselves over night. It takes time to be able to move forward from a failure. The best way to overcome setbacks is to remember success. If one focusses on the only thing they failed in and not their achievements, it will take longer to overcome failure. Once you focus on your strengths and how those strengths can be utilized in situations your weaknesses will not define the situations. • 33. Spreading Your Wings Essay The mythological story of Icarus is ...interpreted variously as an allegory of pride, or of man s quest for knowledge, as The Bloomsbury Guide to Art stated in their article ( Icarus ). This idea of the quest of knowledge itself applies to the work of Russell Whiting, a sculptor whose work is featured in the River Gallery SculpturePark of Chattanooga and who sculpted a statue of Icarus as well. In correlation with the interpretation of the story of Icarus being a man s quest for knowledge, Whiting did not just fall in love with the process of carving steel, but also with the potential for self expression, variation, and knowledge regarding steel still left to be attained. The majority of Whiting s work... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here, Whiting emphasizes the fact that he does not specifically analyze or try to represent his work, though often originating from other previous artist facets, in a certain manner. Rather, he lets his artistic expression flow out of him and leaves the analysis to his viewers. Therefore, being fully open to interpretation, a viewer may infer a variety of things from Whiting s sculpture of Icarus. Approaching the piece from an iconographic perspective, Icarus conveys a sense of freedom and the presence of ignorance and naivety associated with being young. For some, an acknowledgeable aspect of the piece may be the fact that he chose to suspend Icarus off the side of the hill at the far end of the garden. In fact, the anchoring which holds him up is built in such a way as to elude the public to believe he is not attached at all but merely freely leaning out over the crisp water with his outstretched wings. Whiting also paid a remarkable amount of attention to the texture present on the wings and the muscular tone of the body. The tone and idealization of the body, which is anatomically similar to that of a boy, is realistic with hints of idealization of form. Furthermore, an interesting aspect of Icarus being placed distantly over the water is that his face is hidden from viewers. Whiting may have chosen to position him like this so as to incorporate a sense of mystery and add to the psychological value of the piece. Since his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From drug use being so relevant during that time to cope with stress to soldiers showing ruthlessness in many different scenarios like the killing of many innocent people, and even betrayal within each other. The drug abuse during the post war era was very great and relevant. Soldiers needed a way to relieve their stress during the war. Thoughts of being with their parents once again would haunt them. Leadership calls for action in terms of guidance, decision making, structure and control, these qualities are necessary and evident within organizations. After World War I organizations were finding it difficult to organize and operate efficiently. It was in this period Frederick Taylor s Scientific Management framework took precedence in organizations. Taylor introduced a systematic, strategic and scientific method to aid organizations in recovering from the effects of the war, moving towards high levels of productivity, efficacy and efficiency. Taylor s principles highlighted the need for division of responsibility, a systematic and strategic way of choosing and training employees for specific roles, breaking down jobs into smaller tasks and extending to management the responsibility of setting objectives for the organization. Following Taylor was French industrialist, Henri Fayol who contributed the administrative structure of planning, coordinating, commanding, controlling and organizing. Within this defining period of the Industrial Revolution, management theories, literature contributions, and scientific inquiry began to advance. Various schools of thought became prominent in Europe, which trickled down to the West.
