Starting an Independent Record Label
Starting an Independent Record Label
Introduction
Throughout these four chapters I will be discussing how to start your own record label.
Part one will be talking about how to get started, like what a record company does.
Part two will be talking about setting up the actual label, like record deals, contracts that you will
need, and making your business plan.
Part 3 will be discussing how to find the group you will represent, like what to look for in an artist,
what is the artist looking for, and indentifying your market.
Part 4 will be the production and part 5 will be the marketing and distribution, like creating the
recording, finding a recording studio, mixing and mastering, and manufacturing and packaging.
And what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It describes the number of recordings the artist will make, the labels responsibility to pay for the
production of the recordings, the record company s rights to the recordings, and the amount the
label will label will pay the artist from the sale of those records.
You will also need a producer s agreement. The producer is the technical and creative person. The
producer works with the artist to complete the master recording that a label will then manufacture
into cassettes etc. its pretty similar to the recording agreement. A producer agreement explains the
deal of the producer will perform on the recording, the record labels rights to the recording, and
how much the label will pay.
Business Plan
Everyone who wants to achieve their goals for their business effectively must create a business
plan. It s the direction you re looking to head in a certain amount of years and how you re going to
achieve the goals you want.
Your labels business plan will show to artists and other professionals that you are organized and
professional. A business plan should include management, your promotion thinking and strategy,
marketing and sales, the whole financial view.
Music Terms
You need to know the basics and importance of the music industry s knowledge.

Kino From The Pearl, Dominic From The Movie War Dance
Conflicts can Change People Everyone has conflicts that change our lives. Conflict means a
serious disagreement between two sides or more and there are many types of conflict.
Sometimes conflicts start with other people and sometimes they start with oneself. Conflicts can
change people. Kino from the novella The Pearl, Dominic from the movie War Dance, and I
have had conflicts that change us. First of all, Kino changed drastically from the beginning to the
end of the novela. Kino went from kind hearted person to a selfish person. For example in
Chapter 5, He struck her in the face with his clenched fist and she fell among the boulders and he
kicked her in the side (58). Kino used to love Juana but after he beat

Energy can be converted from one form into another in three basic ways know as the action of
force. The first one is gravitational forces which is when gravity accelerates a falling object, its
converts its potential energy to kinetic energy. Likewise, when an object is lifted the gravitational
field stores the energy exerted by the lifter as potential energy in the earth object system. The
second one is electric and magnetic force fields which is charged particles, upon which electrical
fields exert forces, possess potential energy in the presence of an electric field in a way similar to
that of an object in a gravitational field. These force fields can accelerate particles, converting a

Several different types of oil and gas traps exist. Natural gas is found throughout the world in
reservoirs deep beneath the surface of the earth and floor of the oceans. It forms as pockets of gas
over crude oil deposits or is trapped in porous rock formations. Natural gas can be found in oil
deposits, as associated natural gas, although non associated natural gas is often found without the
presence of oil. Natural gas is considered as a clean fuel because of its environmentally friendly
properties such as being practically sulphur free and it produces virtually no sulphur dioxide or
SO2. (http://environment.about.com/fossilfuels

Two different energy alternatives that came to mind is wind powerand hydropower. Societies have
taken advantage of wind power for thousands of years. The first known use was in 5000 BC
when people used sails to navigate the Nile River. Persians had already been using windmills for
400 years by 900 AD in order to pump water and grind grain. (www.epa.gov/cleanrgy/energy and
you/affect/non hydro.html)Windmills may have even been developed in China before 1 AD, but
the earliest written documentation comes from 1219. Cretans were using hundreds of sail rotor
windmills to pump water for crops and livestock. Wind power is one of the most promising new
energy sources that can serve as

Standing For The National Anthem Analysis
Standing for the National Anthem
First a little background on the national anthem. The song itself was written to commemorate a
military victory when we withstood a British attack and Old Glory continued to wave over the
battered fort during the War of 1812. In 1931 Congress officially decided listeners should stand
when The Star Spangled Banner is played. Congress also gave suggestions for the behavior of
people listening to the song. Which is basically to stand at attention, hand over your heart, and men
should remove their hats and hold them over their heart. (Dempsey, Martin). So even Congress
believes that is what a person should do, but so they would not be in violation of 1st Amendment
rights, they only recommended it, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So why would people stand for the anthem of a country that we know very little about, they may
be oppressive to people of color too. We do it to show the world we are respectful people, and it
is their anthem, whether we agree with the things they do, we should be respectful of that
country and the people competing in the Olympics. All countries have some problems, and some
people may not be treated unfairly, but we are not the ones to disrespect them during an
Olympic performance. Too many times things are blown out of proportion through the media, so
I would not disrespect someone because of something I saw or heard on the radio or television.
Unless you are there you do not know all the facts of a situation. The only way we can make a
difference is be there for each other and show our respect for this great country by standing for the
national anthem. Respect is the one thing you can give freely and is always appreciated. You
are telling the world that out of respect you are standing. Respect for a country that is united in
times of need, free, and democratic. Just as you show elder people respect by being there for
them. We are there for our country. The flag is a symbol of freedom, the song was written to
commemorate an outstanding military victory, where we worked together and stood united to
defend our country. So really standing during the song is not really too much to ask. It is done out
of respect for a nation that has given so many so much. Remember when you are standing and
listening to that anthem the many people that have lost their lives for that flag and as long as we
stay united, then the bonds of this country become stronger. So show your respect for our country,
our flag, our anthem and the world will see how truly strong this nation really

Summary Of The Lost Honor Of Katharina Blum
Societal status and a woman s obligations play a role key role in the oppression of society and the
police during the 1970s in Germany. The interactive oral presentation discussed the responsibilities
as a housewife and limitations that were imposed on German women by the public. The discussion
allowed me to understand the crucial role each of the characters in the novel The Lost Honor of
Katharina Blum played which facilitates the author to express the satirical notion of the press and
the inequitable roles people played in German society. A womans worth is only manifested by how
she devotes her life to her family and marriage. Although women gained the right to vote in 1919,
women were still suppressed in a patriarchal society, where men

My Pleasure Meg, thankyou for having me on The Poet s Voice.

After his three year apprenticeship, Keats became a medical student at Guy s hospital. With his
study taking over, he was losing time to write. He had always had a passion for literature, so he
made up his mind to increase the time spent on poetry, and his first poem was published in 1814.
Although he received his Apothecary licence in 1816, he decided to follow the path of his
inspiration, Lord Byron, and become a poet. Five months before his first book, Poems , was
published, Keats was introduced to one of Byron and Shelley s friends, Hunt, who helped him
advance in his writing. His first book was not received to well by the public, neither was the rest
of his work. In his lifetime, Keats work copped more hate than any other poet of his time. But by
the end of the 19th century he was one of the most beloved poets studied. Actually Meg, on his
gravestone Keats wanted to write Here lies one whose name was writ in water. He knew he wasn
t appreciated in his time, and he would be washed away by those who read his name, yet he
prophesised he would be appreciated in the years that followed.
Keats met the love of his life who did love him for many years after his death, Fanny Brawne, in
1818. They started off as close friends, but their friendship soon became intimate and all of Keats
time and energy was put into her. The majority of his poems reflected his love for her,

Negative Effects Of Technology On Youth
Technology varies widely from one decade to the next. The invention of the television increased the
usage technology during the 80s. While the invention of computers rose the use of technology in
the 90s. Once seen as an improvement to the society, technology has now become a problem.
Numerous versions of technologynow exist to create technological distractions. Computers, cell
phones, and video games stand the leading distractions in today s society. Technology began small
but, with great advancements technology has gone too far. Youth remain greatly affected by
technology. Since technology has become a normal routine for youth, they fail to realize the
problem occurring. Older individuals who grew up without as much technology, can point out the
issue easily. Technology affects today s youth negatively because it distracts, promotes violence,
and lowers independence. Technology affects youth negatively because it creates distractions. Cell
phones have become the leading distractioninvolving injuries (Turkle 430). As stated by Sherry
Turkle, Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor, claims that These young people live in a
state of waiting for connection. And they are willing to take risks, to put themselves on the line
(430). Texting and driving have become a major problem causing many to crash and die.
Technology also causes distraction in classrooms. Michael Berry, a professor at the University of
Colorado, states that technology affects classrooms

Sublime Research Papers
If you like ska, punk, reggae, or hip hop, then you will love Sublime. They are a perfect
combination of all these genres and more. Straight from Long Beach, California, Sublime has
made some of the most unique music to date. Their talents go beyond their popular songs on the
radio like classic hits Santeria , What I Got , and Smoke Two Joints . Many classify Sublimeas
stoner rock, which may be true, but their music isn t limited to only potheads. Sublimeis such an
interesting band because of their origin, music, and their rise to fame. First of all, Sublime s origin

artists like Slightly Stoopid, 311, The Dirty Heads, Operation Ivy, and Pepper, though they still
have a sound unlike any of those bands. On the subject of Sublime s sound, Bookman says:
Sublime s music was highlighted by bass driven grooves, reggae rhythms, elaborately cadenced
rhyme schemes and transitions between paces and styles throughout a given song, sometimes
alternating between thrash punk, ska and reggae within the same song (see Seed ). Their music
often contains psychedelic, harmonic, minor based or bluesy guitar solos, rhythmically
improvised bass solos or dub lines, turntable scratching and rolling drum transitions and heavy
bass lines. They are known for being one of the first and most influential reggae fusion
musicians. (5) If I had to list every one of Sublime s influences, I d be here all day. It is a little
known fact but many of Sublime s most popular hits are covers. I m not saying that they were a
cover band. What Sublime did was more of a tribute to some of Nowell s favorite artists, and
some are so obscure that they brought the originals more fame than before. Smoke Two Joints is
originally by The Toyes, but the cover incorporates lyrics from other songs like Outside! by the

William Chaucer s The Friar s Tale
Society has always judged a person on his level of morality. This level of judgment has been
evident since the immoral acts of Adam and Eve were committed. Some of these acts are
dishonesty, adultery, and ignorance. The Friar s Tale makes these moral issues clear through
various characters. The summoner and the Devilboth show dishonesty, abuse of power, and
mercilessness. In this short story, Chaucer illustrates the theme of immorality and how it affects the
character of all the persons in the tale.
.Characters display dishonesty in The Friar s Tale . The summoner steals the money that he collects
from peasants. Chaucer illustrates this act of immorality when he says,
Now truly...so do I. I never spare to take a thing, knows God, unless it be too heavy or too hot.
What I get for myself, and privately, no kind of conscience for such things have I .
(170 174).
The summoner is being dishonest to the people that he collects from by not telling him that he
keeps the money. The summoner admits to the Devil that he steals. The summoner also says that he
has no conscience. Therefore he can not be kept from evil.
(Gray 115)
Bowden addresses the summoner s immorality when he states,
Fact and fiction both condemn him as especially licentious and dishonest. He also mentions how
Gower writes of him as pretending to be poor but, in actuality, as being as rich as a king
(Bowden 55).
Stealing is immoral, and Bowden reinforces that the summoner is immoral and steals beyond need.

Migration In Australia
With this graph we can conclude that due to migration becoming more common in Australia in

Christian religions has in fact increased, and the Christian religions percentage has decreased but
there still may be the same amount of people believing in the religion of Christianity but with all of
the migrants and populationincrease the percentage of Christian religions has became smaller. This
is also one of the reasons why with migration the non Christian religions have increased.
The growth in non Christian religions is due to many things. The main reason being migration in

Over these years it has increased by 5.7% this being from this graph the biggest percentage
change during these years. This could be because of many things one reason could be due to the
evolving world and religion not keeping up with it, and people abandoning religion due to
wanting to believe in something that the Church/religion doesn t approve like same sex
marriage. It could also be because people believe and put in worth in more material things and
don t as much believe in spiritual things any more. This could be because during the early times
being religious was the best thing you could have but in now days other things may be seen as
more important such as money instead of believing in a religion. The below graph shows the
increase of Australian Citizens who have classified themselves as non religious in the past census

The Lincoln Electric Company Essay
The Lincoln Electric Company was founded in 1895 by John C. Lincoln, who then partnered with
his younger brother James in 1907. The focus of the company originally was manufacturing electric
motors, which then expanded to include battery chargers and in the early 1900 s to portable
welding machines. (Lincoln Electric, 2016) The company was founded originally on a construct of
Christian values, which may have played a role in creating the dominant culture of the corporation.
(Sharplin) This paper presents an evaluative analysis of the business case study presented by Arthur
Sharplin, with a focus on determining the overall corporate culture of Lincoln Electric categorically.
John and James Lincoln professed to be devout Christians and embodied their faith in their
treatment of their employees early on in the company. While a clear hierarchy and protection of
management control was evident in their organizational structure, they ensured that employees had
regular access to the management team both formally and informally. Management roles may have
been protected and controlled but they were seen strictly as tasks to perform just as every other
employee was assigned their tasks. In this respect the workplace was and remains designed strictly
around function, no perks exist for management that do not exist for every employee. (Sharplin)
This example points to the importance of a people oriented culture in the workplace and is almost
egalitarian in nature. (Flat World Knowledge,

Symptoms Of Hemophilia
There are many genetic disorders in the world. Some are obvious about what they do to a person
s body. While others are more subtle or completely unnoticeable from just looking at them. Some
have severe side effects, while others do not. Genetic disorders affect people in that they affect
sometimes many people, they can shorten one s life expectancy, and it alters a person s body and
possibly their physical appearance. One genetic disorder that is more common, but still widely
unknown, is hemophilia, a blooddisorder. Hemophilia is a medical condition in which the ability

A hemophiliac s extent of bleeding will depend on the severity of their hemophilia. One
symptom of hemophilia is excessive bleeding. Bleeding is external and internal. According to
the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the Institute of Health, Signs of external
bleeding may include: bleeding in the mouth from a cut or bite or from cutting or losing a tooth;
nosebleeds for no obvious reason; heavy bleeding from a minor cut; bleeding from a cut that
resumes after stopping for a short time . They also say, Signs of internal bleeding may include:
blood in the urine (from bleeding in the kidneys or bladder); blood in the stool (from bleeding in
the intestines or stomach); large bruises (from bleeding into the large muscles of the body .
Another thing this disease does to the body is it causes bleeding in the joints. This is another
form of internal bleeding. Some joints included are the knees and elbows. The process of bleeding
in the joints goes as follows; the joints are tight, but with no pain or visible signs of bleeding.
Then, the joint becomes swollen, hot to the touch, and it is painful to bend. Bleeding and swelling
both continue. Movement in the joint becomes temporarily lost. The pain can be severe. If this is
not treated quickly, then the joint may be damaged. More internal bleeding includes bleeding in the
brain. This is, as imagined, a very serious complication. It can

The Equal Protection
Holding the state law prohibiting non white males from sitting on a jury was a violation of equal
protection.
The purpose of the equal protection clause was to provide protection for the civil rights of blacks.
This law clearly discriminates against blacks. Furthermore, any classification of jurors by race
would be unconsitutional, whether it be nationality based or otherwise. That is not to say that the
state may not prescribe qualification for its jurors, it just may not do so with respect to race. [But
age, sex, and education was okay. This is the first exercise of racial protection under the equal

MR. JUSTICE STRONG delivered the opinion of the court.
The plaintiff in error, a colored man, was indicated for murder in the Circuit Court of Ohio County,
in West Virginia, on the 20th of October, 1874, and upon trial was convicted and sentenced. The
record was then removed to the Supreme Court of the State, and there the judgment of the Circuit
Court was affirmed.
The present case is a writ of error to that court, and it is now, in substance, averred that at the trial in
the State court the defendant (now plaintiff in error) was denied rights to which he was entitled
under the Constitution and laws of the United States.
In the Circuit Court of the State, before the trial of the indictment was commenced, the defendant
presented his petition, verified by his oath, praying for a removal of the cause into the Circuit
Court of the United States, assigning, as ground for the removal, that by virtue of the laws of the
State of West Virginia no colored man was eligible to be a member of the grand juryor to serve on a

man and having been a slave, he had reason to believe, and did believe, he could not have the full

Basel Iii
Basel III is a global comprehensive collection of restructured regulatory standards on bank capital
adequacy and liquidity. It was developed by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision to
strengthen the regulation, supervision and risk management of the banking sector (bis.org, 2010).
It introduces new regulatory requirements on bankliquidity and bank leverage in response to the
financial downturn caused by the Global Financial Crisis. Stefan Walter, Secretary General of the
Basel Committee on banking supervision said in November 2010:
There are many factors that led to the build up of the crisis. At the top of the list is excess liquidity,
resulting in too much credit and weak underwriting standards. The vulnerability of the banking ...

3. Supplementing the risk based capital requirement with a leverage ratio
One of the primary feature of the Global Financial Crisis, as well as other previous financial
crises, was the build up of excessive on and off balance sheet leverage in the banking system.
The force on the banking system to reduce its leverage caused a forced decline on asset prices
worsening the feedback between looses, deterioration in bank capital and the reduction of credit
availability. The framework introduced a leverage ratio requirement, fixed at 3% (actuaries.asn.au,
2011), which aims to constrain leverage in the banking sector, and introduce additional protection
against model risk and measurement error. This will help alleviate the risk of the deleveraging
processes, which can damage the financial system (bis.org, 2010). The introduced leverage ratio
will be a reliable extra measure to the risk based requirement.
4. Reducing procyclicality and promoting countercyclical buffers Procyclical amplification has
been one of the most threatening elements that caused financial shocks throughout the banking
system, financial markets and the economy during the Global Financial Crisis (bis.org, 2010). The
Committee introduced a number of measures which focus on procyclicality and increase the
resistance of the banking sector. These measures will help ensure that the banking sector absorbs
shocks instead of transmitting them to the financial system and the economy. One

The Four Layers Of The Respiratory System
The respiratory system is made up of two different parts, the upper respiratory tract which includes

There are four different layers that make up the trachea, these include the mucosa which is the in

goblet cells that secrete a tacky mucus that lines the walls of the inner trachea so that it catches any
debris breathed in via the air before it hits the lungs.

Reading Is Outdated, Reading On A Screen Is Evolution
Reading on paper is outdated, reading on a screen is evolution. The twenty first century is a time
of change nowadays people read on the go. Reading has changed yet it is still important in society
recently overtime statistics have shown a decline in reading due to the digital era; with the
capability to read digitally there have been benefits, but also some obstacles.
Reading is an important part of people s lives and how society functions. The amount of literature
someone reads impacts the amount of success they will have academically( Issitt and Cook 1 of 7).
Reading also helps to advance reading skills for later use in life and future jobs it improves the lives
of people. Whether engaged in a book, a newspaper or looking at random signs a requirement of
basic reading skills is needed for engagement and interpretation of the world surroundings(Hoss 1
of 2).. To be a successful student a reader uses background knowledge for different subjects.
Students with the right reading skills can in the future develop this more to a higher
academically or professional level(Hoss 2 of 2). Once developed written words are easier to
interpret; to their advantage they use the information to better improve their lives(Hoss 2 of 2).
There are major problems that arise when someone has little or no reading experience. A person
with low reading ability may not be able to read signs, understand medical information or

Spirocysts do not have any piercing elements, and are used to attach to prey and non prey.
(Г–stman, 2000) They secrete an adhering hydroscopic substance that allows the tube to adhere to
substrates without piercing them. (Г–stman, 2000) Spirocysts are very tightly wound within a thin
walled spirocyst, in comparison to the thick walled nematocyst. Spirocysts are only found in
Anthozoans, and are usually used in conjunction with nematocysts to hold prey and envenomate it.
(Г–stman, 2000) The success of this depends on how well the tentacles can adhere to its prey. The
intrinsic adherence of the cnidarian firing the cnidae is measure by the amount of force it takes to
remove a target from the tentacle. (Thorington and Hessinger, 1998) the total adhesive force, as
calculated by Thorington and Hassinger is equal to the adhesive force of the spirocyst mucus (St)
and the product of the number of cnidae ( mastigophore nematocysts (nm), and spirocysts (ns)
discharging onto the target and their intrinsic adherence, ( mastigophore nematocysts (im), and
spirocysts (is). When combined Adhesive force = St + (nm)(im) + (ns) (is) They found that the
product of the number of cnidae and the intrinsic adherence for spirocysts had no effect on overall
adherence, so they shortened the equation to Adhesive force = St + (nm)(im)

Sometimes this is the case when dealing with issues or feelings. As with differentiation of self,
Bowen s triangle concept has an emotional component with anxiety at the core (H. Goldenberg L.
Goldenberg, 2013). Differentiation of selfhas an individual concept that is then applied to a couple
or a familysystem. Where the concept of triangles differs is number of individuals involve.
According to this concept, relationships only exist with two or more individuals. With two
individuals, communication and stability may exist. The problem exists when anxiety or stress is
introduced into the dyad. Bowen believed that couples or two individuals... Show more content on

Bowen concluded that undifferentiated dyads will produce unstable and highly emotional families
that then become the nuclear family emotional systems. The system s goal is to reduce the tension
and gain stability. Bowen and his colleague, Michael Kerr, hypothesized that there were three
patterns in which nuclear families dealt with intense emotional systems. The first pattern is spousal
dysfunction where one individual disproportionately takes on the anxiety rather than addressing the
family conflict (H. Goldenberg L. Goldenberg, 2013). The second pattern involves externalizes their
personal anxieties onto the martial relationship. Control is a central aspect within the second
pattern of martial conflict. Each individual of the original dyad tries to control one another and
focus on the other s issues as an outlet of dealing with family tensions. Bowen and Kerr s final
pattern was a child s psychological impairment. During this pattern, family or dyad tensions are
ignored as one or both individuals focus more attention to the child. The projection of focus and
anxiety on the child perpetuates the parental and couple tensions. Additionally, this focus lowers
the child s differentiating level, increases negative thoughts or feelings toward the child, and creates
impairment of health, socialization, and school performance. Bowenian theorist added emotional
distance as a fourth and final pattern. Emotional distance allows individuals to pull away from each
other in order to decrease the intensity of the tense. Emotional distance is the most common type of
pattern found in all types of nuclear

Short Story Casey At The Bat
In the short story Casey At The Bat the author uses humor to tell the story. I think the author does
it to explain the depth and meaning of the story. The author makes it where we expect something
totally different then what`s about to happen. Also I think the author uses it to tell the story
better. I think this because in the beginning of the story all the people were excited because
Casey was coming up to bat like they were screaming his name and everything. So that makes the
reader think he`s a big deal because everyone is going crazy when Casey steps up to the plate. So
the first to balls that were pitched to him, he missed like they were nothing and had no value like
they didn t mean anything to him and the ref called strikes

Indignation, By Philip Roth
Indignation, by Philip Roth, is narrated by Marcus Messner, a young man from Newark, New
Jersey, set in the early 1950 s. Marcus is dead, reflecting on the critical events of his life leading
up to his downfall. He believes these events were causally related; if one event in his life ended
differently, his death could have been avoided. Marcus laments his misfortune as an unlucky
soul. His mother calls him defiant, as if it is a natural characteristic that all Messners, and
followers of Bertrand Russell inherently possess. While Marcus sees himself as a victim,
deprived of his true potential, the reality is in stark contrast. He is not a victim of a series of
mishaps ; Marcus died because of his failure to understand people and his... Show more content on

His lack of understanding and his running from problems does not end with his move to
Winesburg, neither does his father s surveillance. His father s questioning continues and his father

How Cinema and Theater Convey Pleasure in the Acts of Search and Lust
In her essay, Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema , British film maker Laura Mulvey attempts to
demystify how pleasure can be fulfilled in film. Contending that a pleasure in looking (scopohilia)
and a pleasure in possessing the female as what to be looked at (voyeurism) fufills the audience s
desires, Mulvey suggests how filmmakers use this knowledge to create film that panders to our
innate desires. In Meshes of the Afternoon by Maya Deren and Vertigoby Alfred Hitchcock, it is
seen that Mulvey s argument the desire to look, the hunting, seeking, and watching, and harnessing
of the female form is natural human desire. Deren and Hitchcock will use ... Show more content on

Important first is understanding what Mulvey is suggesting what it actually means to derive
pleasure from a work as she sees it. She divides pleasure into two categories voyeurism and
scopophilia that for her represent the complete fulfillment of human desires in a work. The
question as to whether they can coexist harmoniously is the critical component of Hitchcock
and Deren. The difference between these two artists and others, as it will soon be seen, is their
uncanny ability to play toward both the need to look and the need to objectify women as the
image of that look and do so in such a seamless manner that it can escape the audience s attention.
How, artistically, do you implement Mulvey s suggestion that there is some desire to be gained
by the idea of looking and seeking in art? There is a mirroring duality to much of this voyeurism
we enjoy in cinema. The extreme contrast between the darkness of the auditorium (which also
isolates spectators from one another) and the active search playing out on screen allow the
individual audience members to feel voyeuristic as they watch in on someone else s narrative
(Mulvey, 2184). It is dark and secretive, and they can watch in as Scottie, for example, attempts to
figure out the enigmatic woman of his fantasy. As he watches, so does the audience, and it is
within this complex stacking of pleasure that the audience own desires are fully realized.

Title
Development Ethics and Environmental Injustices in Bangladesh
Research Problem
Critiques of understanding development as regards the processes of economic growth,
industrialization, and modernization are common on the grounds that it raises as many problems as
it solves. As a reaction, some scholars propose a normative understanding of development as the
point of departure for overcoming economic and social inequalities and deprivations. Hence, the
question arises concerning how benefits and burdens of development should be distributed in
society. This is also the main theme of what we call environmental justice. Apart from the problem
of balanced distribution of costs and benefits, environmental justice also addresses the capacity of
involvement in either directly or indirectly the decision making process in the society. This account
makes it imperative that addressing environmental injustice depends on understanding how
environmental hazards affect some people more than others. The aspects of environmental justice,
therefore, are twofold: the participation in the decision making process and the just allocation of
benefits and burdens. Taking this account into consideration, it can be argued with substantial
evidence that the phenomena of environmental injustice are prevalent in Bangladesh. As a
consequence of numerous development

Internet Service Providers Essay
We think we can do whatever we want to on the Internet, but can we really? In this day and age,
people log on and surf the web without a second thought, and often take the freedoms of the
Internet for granted. One of the most valuable things about the Internet is that it s open and equal.
Anyone can access or create new websites, and as of now, each website is treated the same.
Unfortunately, this freedom is being threatened and the Internet as we know it could change for
good.
Net Neutrality is the idea that Internet providers should treat all websites and Internet services the
same. Major internet providers are now making the argument that they should be allowed to charge
their customers more money, depending on what the customer uses ... Show more content on

This new policy would introduce hurt more then it would help. Institutions like public libraries,
schools and other places that offer Wi Fi for use would have to pay tremendous costs. Schools, for
example, are having a hard enough time obtaining the funding for materials like school supplies or
for qualified teachers, and to add the cost of individual websites that students need access to is
unfair and in some schools, impossible.
This proposal would also allow ISP s to block certain websites all together. For example, Verizon
could block Google completely, forcing their customers to pay for the Verizon search engine.
Not only would it add extra costs to your internet bill, but it would also create a tiered internet.
This means that not only would customers have to pay for certain websites, but those same costly
sites would have to pay the ISPs as well. A tiered internet means that a few websites would get
high speed priority and be favored over other sites. To be placed in these high speed tiers, the
websites would have to pay huge amounts of money to the ISPs. Why should the Internet Service
Providers have full, unrestricted access to control everything that goes on online?
A tiered Internet would effect everyone, and not always in a good way. If you are an avid Netflix
user, and are constantly watching shows, then the fact that their Internet service speed was
lightning fast would be enjoyable. But if you had to go on a smaller site that was less widely

Descriptive Essay On My First Roller Coaster
Finally, the time came. I was so nervous! My palms were sweating, I was shaking just a little bit,
and I felt the need to vomit out the curly fries I had just eaten. I thought to myself Why did I
agree to this? I m going to faint! But let s start at the beginning of the story, you know the one
where I decided to ride my first roller coaster.
I was in a black durango with my best friends Marlee, Emma and Katelyn. Marlee s mom was
driving us to Six Flags to celebrate her 12th birthday. When we got inside the park after an hour
or so of singing our favorite songs at the top of our lungs and talking about how much we hated
school, the first thing we all did was grab a map so we could find our favorite rides. It was almost
perfect weather outside with a breeze but the sun still shining. About 3 hours passed then I heard,
Let s ride Medusa!
I begged them to let me stay on the ground and I did for their first ride. When they got off all I
heard was, Come on Ava, you ll have so much fun! Yeah Medusa is the best roller coaster here!
from Marlee and Emma with excited looks on their faces. After a few minutes of stalling, you
know talking about how many people have died on roller coasters, saying I had to use the restroom,
yada yada yada, I finally made the best decision in my life and said yes to go on the roller coaster.
It was almost closing hour so where the super duper crazy long lines usually were, there were only
five other people in line. We sat in a row of

Cultural Diversity
What kinds of clothes do you wear? What types of music do you like? What foods do you eat?
Your clothing, music, and foods, along with other factors such as religion, family structure, and
values, are all part of your culture. Culture refers to the attitudes, values, customs, and behavior
patterns that characterize a social group (Banks, 2001). The enormous impact of culture is
illustrated by its influence on all aspects of our lives (Gollnick Chinn, 2002). An activity as basic

memories in a happy way. My box of private things, is an excellent example of her restrained
tone. The author is trying to be reserve and private in the third paragraph. The restrained helps
capture the youthful mood of the story. It does this by not going into depth, which makes the
story seem like a child is telling it. I kept it in my cigar box as a sort of momento of good time, is
another example of Clair s tone. The tone Clair uses is melancholy, she uses this tone to describe
how things have changed, and is feeling a bit remorse. The melancholy makes the author seem less
innocent, by discussing how she doesn t want things to change. The different tones throughout each

uses a puerile tone. While growing up children become more private, and the author emphasizes this

The Main Key Ideas Of Socrates Concern With The Betterment...
Introduction and Background:
The purpose behind this thesis is to identify the main key ideas of Socrates concern with the
betterment of the Soul. Highlighting the word Psyche as the soul which is immortal or

and his mindset. He added that every soul has happiness in it but not all choose to obtain it, not all
the Souls take advantage of it. Those souls that are wise and are truly happy, lead a genuine life
containing happiness. While the inverse, those who are not happy lead a life concerning the
material possessions and involving themselves in materialistic pleasure resulting in to

Why Did The Provisional Government Lose The Russian...
The first riot started because women demanded more bread. However, the riot spreader throughout
the whole country and other industries. On March 12, the army in Petrograd abandoned the royal
family and joined the riots with workers to demand reforms. On the same day, the Duma
astonished the provisional government and told Nicholas to abdicate. Nicholas family was been
put at the Tsarskoe Selo Palace at first. In 1918, due to the afraid of rescuing them, they were
sentenced to death on July 16.
The provisional government set up some rights and freedom for citizens, such as freedom of
speech and religion. However, since people still don t have enough food to eat and prices were still
too high, mutinies and strikes happened frequently even after the establishing of the provisional
government. One of the leaders of provisional government, Alexander Kerensky, believes that
Russia should keep fighting in the Great War because it is a national duty. The idea of continuing
fighting with Germany became the main cause of the second revolution.

Many leaders in the provisional government are related to Nicholas. The government actually had
no power to control the country. People still faced severe poverty, and did not get bread and peace
which are the two things they demand. Therefore, the Bolsheviks and the workers Soviet
overturned the provisional government and established Russian Soviet Federative Socialist

The Cost-Volume-Profit Analysis
The cost volume profit analysis (CVP) is used to help companies determine breakeven points and
pricing for their products. It is a method of cost accounting ењЁased on determining the breakeven
point of cost and volume of goods and is useful for managers making short term economic decisions
(Investopedia, 2013).
The mechanism of CVP begins with the revenue, so the price point and the volume of units sold
(CliffNotes, 2013). A good way to understand the CVP analysis is using a simple income statement
example (Choo Tan, 2011) The example that will be used here is a one product small company
Acme, which makes ball bearings. The cost of producing one ball bearing is six cents. The
objective for Acme in using CVP analysis is to determine how many ball bearings it must sell at
its normal price in order to breakeven. Suppose its fixed costs are $100,000. If the normal price for
a ball bearing is twenty cents that is the variable cost. The contribution is the revenue variable
cost, so in this case 14 cents. The breakeven point is 100,000 / 0.14 = 714,286 ball bearings.
There are a few different ways that the company can gain competitive advantage using the CVP
method and the information that it generates about the business. The first thing the company can
learn is with respect to pricing. The company needs to sell 714,286 ball bearings, so it will only
produce ball bearings if it thinks that it can sell that many. If the company does not believe that it
can sell enough

Impact Of King George III
Bang! That was the sound of the shot heard around the world. British troops, under the command
of the King George III faced off against a few citizens of Boston which became recognized as the
start of the Revolutionary War. It is recorded that Patrick Henry said, We should not forget that the
spark which ignited the American Revolutionwas caused by the British attempt to confiscate the
firearms of the colonists. King George III influenced the Revolutionary war through his lapses in
judgement, his overbearing hold on the colonies and his hunger for more power. King George III

Reflective Essay On Learning
When it comes to learning, the majority of people have their own way of getting a specific task
done. Since the day that we began learning in school, our ability to learn has developed as we
advance through each grade level. In kindergarten, we were beginning to develop the necessary
skills to memorize simple math and basic English. Once we started in college, however, our ability
to complete long readings and assignments is expected to be ready for the college level. Some
students have learned new learningstrategies while others have kept to the same game plan. Much
of high school is meant to prepare the student for the workload and difficulty of college courses.
Some students push themselves every year to become better learners while others, tend to postpone
assignments until the last minute. Each year the difficulty of the assignments given increases
greatly and our ability to learn new strategies is important to the workprocess. Each student has a
different strategy that they follow in order to complete an assignment. While some students begin
assignments ahead of time and plan ahead, others do not attempt to learn new strategies and leave
their work for last minute. Learning to learn is a process that takes much time and dedication in
order to achieve. In many cases, students stick to the strategies that they know best. Their strategies
can vary from deep reading to simply skimming through the reading. In my case, I consider myself
in the middle of this learning

Lakota Way Essay

21 October 2009
Family Virtues Virtues are usually taught through the eyes of the wise, also known as the elder.
In the book The Lakota Way, by Joseph M. Marshall III, his tribe teaches virtues though story
telling. The virtues of the Lakota tribe and those of my family are more similar then I had
anticipated, although we do have our differences. The Lakota Way, stories and lessons for
living, is a book written in 2001 by Joseph M. Marshall III. Marshall dedicates his book to
Kimberly Jo Schumidt and Joseph N. Marshall II. The stories he tells through out his book are
those that have been passed down from his family about the Lakota s and their virtues. Marshall s
stories are based on morals and virtues. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Lakota Way, Koskalaka meets the deer woman and remembers what his grandmother had
told him and out of respect he declines her tempting offer to go with her. Just like Koskalaka
respects his elder grandmother my siblings also have learned that we must respect people and
more the elder. In the Lakota tribe, the grandmother said that when the Deer Woman takes them
into her lodge she has sex with them but, when they wake the deer woman is no longer there
leaving the man forgetful of his family and in search of the Deer Woman. Unlike the Lakotas, my
family has gone out and seen their own type of deer woman wether it be with drugs, sex, or lies, but
never have they forgotten about the rest of us. My family has learned to embrace one another when
they have fallen into temptation, where the Lakotas would cast them out. My relatives have gone
through many hardships and difficult situations but the morals have set into our heads like
Koskalaka s grandmother set into his head. The many men whom the Deer Woman lured into her
lodge lost complete contact with their families and thus themselves. They left their family s worried
about where they could be and what could be happening to them. The men became selfish and
inconsiderate, and no longer showing the respect and attention that they should have been showing
to their family because of the Deer Woman. Dissimilar to the men and woman of The Lakota

The Influence Of Greek Architecture In America
Greek architecture was and still is a significant part of history today. It has affected many
countries counting the U.S. A good example of how Greek Architecture affects the U.S is the
many historical sites found in the capital of the U.S, such as the Lincoln memorial, which has
obvious Greek elements including how it is partially constructed through marble and has many
columns. Because of the way Greek Architecture was and still is, it has helped establish the
present day society that America has and is today. One clear way that Greek architecture is
portrayed in today s culture is how important people are honored. Take a temple for instance.
Many of these temples were built on a large hill known as an acropolis, and it generally included

Misinterpretations Of Love In Twelfth Night By William...
Twelfth Night Behind the Mask
Love can not hide behind a mask forever in the end truth will prevail. In the play Twelfth Night
written by William Shakespeare there are many circumstances where there are misinterpretations of
love in various romantic relationships. There are many instances where characters where used
disguises were used to create plot development. In Shakespeare play trickery was used to create
plot development. Mistaken identity was used to create a complicated love triangle. Shakespeare
makes use of different binding elements to cause conflict between his characters to gain conflict
from the audience.

Shakespeare uses the act of disguise to create plot development in Twelfth Night.
In Twelfth Night, mistaken identity was used several times to create plot development. Olivia
calls a priest to marry Sebastian (He is Viola brother who was thought to be dead in a ship
wrecked and returns later to meet Olivia), but she thinks is Cesario and this is important to the
plot because that is when the truth starts coming out. Olivia says, O welcome father! / Father, I
charge thee by thy reverence / Here to unfold though lately we intended / To keep in darkness
what occasion now / Reveals before tis ripe what thou dost know / Hath newly pass d between
this youth and me (Shakespeare 5.1.146 150). Here, Olivia asks the priest to affirm her marriage
person she believes she married. She has married Sebastian but however supposes she marry
Cesario . This is important to the plot because this when Olivia gets married to Sebastian and
Olivia thinks she has found her true love Cesario and creates room for the mystery in the play to
be answered. In addition to that, Viola says that she can not love Olivia because of she is not she
think he is. Viola says, By innocence I swear, and by my youth, / I have one heart, one bosom,
and one truth, / And that no woman has; nor never none / Shall mistress be of it, save I alone

The Invention Of Hand Made Products
It is important to retain hands on skills in a changing world that is beginning to be taken over by
assembly lines with robots and 3D computer printing that takes out most and in some cases all
manual labour, and makes peoples jobs redundant all in search of a cheaper more efficient product.
In a changing world it is now more important than ever to maintain the knowledge of hands on
skills such as furniture design, crafts and manual labour so we don t lose our way and become a
lazy world. Hand made products are very important as it is in human nature to create thing by using
our own two hands.
William Morris (see figure 1) was a textile designer from England during the eighteen hundreds. At
the time of the industrial revolution many were keen for the machines to be vastly used although
Morris was aware of the drawbacks that would come with this. He was a large believer of hand
made products and played a major role in the revival of the traditional handmade British Textile arts
and crafts. Figure 1, William Morris
Morris was born in Essex to a wealthy middle class family, Morris then studied Classics at Oxford
University. After university he trained as an architect and developed a close friendship with Philip
Webb, a fellow designer. Webb and Morris went on to design a family home, Red House in Kent
(see figure 2), where the Morris s lived for six years from 1859 to 1865, before relocating London.
In 1861, with a group of friends, they started a business called Morris,

Summary Of Balthasar And Feste
Balthasar and Feste fulfill the same role of paid entertainers that are kept around to make the
nobility laugh. This role seems like one that Shakespeare used simply to continue the progression of
the play. This argument is mostly true with Balthasar who we learn very little about and who
appears only when the plot necessitates it. On the other hand, Feste is a much more complex and
central character. Shakespeare uses Feste to insert his own commentary about the playand the
characters in it. Feste displays more cynicism and bitterness than other characters and his songs do
not always align with the tone of the play. With Balthasar and Feste, Shakespeare takes two
characters that fulfill the same role and has used them in entirely different ways to reach the goals
he wants to achieve.
Balthasar s first appearance is in the palace orchard where Benedick is hiding. He sings a song
about men being unfaithful, Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more, Men were deceivers ever,
(2.3.blank blank). Don Pedro and Claudio are using Balthasar to set up their conversation about
Beatrice s supposed love for Benedick. They have Balthasar sing about men being unfaithful which
leads into their conversation about Benedick being too prideful for Beatrice (lines lines). Balthasar
s song obviously irritates Benedick, an he had been a dog that should have howled thus, they would
have hanged him (2.3.blank blank). The choice of song is intentional but not by Balthasar, but
instead by Pedro and

Jack Kerouac is the first to explore the world of the wandering hoboes in his novel, On the Road.
He created a world that shows the lives and motivations of this culture he himself named the
Beats. Kerouac saw the beats as people who rebel against everything accepted to gain freedom
and expression. Although he has been highly criticized for his lack of writing skills, he made a
novel that is both realistic and enjoyable to read. He has a complete disregard for developed of plot
or characters, yet his descriptions are incredible. Kerouac?s novel On the Road defined the post

?the great McCarthy hysteria,? flight is the only means of expressing their dissent? (Feied 293).
They also do not want the commitment of a real relationship with the opposite sex. ?Free love is
rather freedom from love and another route down that same dark death wish? (Vopat 303). They
feel if they can escape these bindings of life than will achieve a better way of living. ?Inwardly,
these excesses are made to serve a spiritual purpose of an affirmation still unfocused, still to be
defined, unsystematic? (Millstein 279). They want to just experience the joys of life to the fullest
without worrying about any responsibilities. ?They seek to make good their escape in moment to
moment living, digging everything, pursuing kicks with a kind of desperate energy that passes
for enthusiasm? (Feied 295). ?They want for everyday experiences something that will give them
an exalted, intensified sense of life that will make them ?live,? that will make life ?real?; they
want to transcend, not their actual limitations, but their sense of limitation? (Baro 281). The beats
were looking for an easy way out of dealing with the pressures of having a real life.
To gain freedom from the restraints of life they rebelled against everything that seemed normal to
regular citizens of society. ?Kerouac?s novels are more readily summarized than Ginsberg?s poetry

Heathcliff Dynamic Character
There are some people who just draw attention. They do so without asking for it, but a light
naturally shines on them and they command the center of attention. Whether it be for good or bad
reasons, people cannot help but stare. One would imagine that if Heathcliff was a real person he
would be one of these individuals. He is a truly special character and the moment someone meets
him in the book that person is intrigued. The reader meets Heathcliffthrough several points of view
and it is impossible not to be drawn to him. This is partly due to how much of a dynamic and

It is undeniable that he is completely aware of what he is doing. He plans his every move and is

use Isabella s feelings for him as an advantage. Another person who believes him is Cathy;
additionally, he is so deviant that she actually falls for the letters from Linton, even though the
letters had a clear influence from his father. Heathcliff also, tries to get Cathy to turn on her own
father when he says, Catherine, his happiest days were over when your days began. He cursed
you, I dare say, for coming into the world (283). He tries to manipulate her and getting her to stay
and marry Linton. Just like Cathy, another person who lets himself be controlled is Linton. He is
the reason Cathy keeps coming back to Wuthering Heights, and this is all thanks to Heathcliff s
influence. By the end of the book, his father s control is evident when Linton says, I can never re
enter that house, I m not to re enter without you (277). In this line, readers can see that Heathcliff
really does have total control over his son, since Linton seems determined to bring Cathy in even if
it means her not seeing her dying

  • 4. Physical Science Assignment 1 Energy can be converted from one form into another in three basic ways know as the action of force. The first one is gravitational forces which is when gravity accelerates a falling object, its converts its potential energy to kinetic energy. Likewise, when an object is lifted the gravitational field stores the energy exerted by the lifter as potential energy in the earth object system. The second one is electric and magnetic force fields which is charged particles, upon which electrical fields exert forces, possess potential energy in the presence of an electric field in a way similar to that of an object in a gravitational field. These force fields can accelerate particles, converting a particle s potential energy into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Several different types of oil and gas traps exist. Natural gas is found throughout the world in reservoirs deep beneath the surface of the earth and floor of the oceans. It forms as pockets of gas over crude oil deposits or is trapped in porous rock formations. Natural gas can be found in oil deposits, as associated natural gas, although non associated natural gas is often found without the presence of oil. Natural gas is considered as a clean fuel because of its environmentally friendly properties such as being practically sulphur free and it produces virtually no sulphur dioxide or SO2. (http://environment.about.com/fossilfuels /Environmental_Issues_Fossil_Fuels_Alternative_Fuels.htm) Two different energy alternatives that came to mind is wind powerand hydropower. Societies have taken advantage of wind power for thousands of years. The first known use was in 5000 BC when people used sails to navigate the Nile River. Persians had already been using windmills for 400 years by 900 AD in order to pump water and grind grain. (www.epa.gov/cleanrgy/energy and you/affect/non hydro.html)Windmills may have even been developed in China before 1 AD, but the earliest written documentation comes from 1219. • 5. Standing For The National Anthem Analysis Standing for the National Anthem First a little background on the national anthem. The song itself was written to commemorate a military victory when we withstood a British attack and Old Glory continued to wave over the battered fort during the War of 1812. In 1931 Congress officially decided listeners should stand when The Star Spangled Banner is played. Congress also gave suggestions for the behavior of people listening to the song. Which is basically to stand at attention, hand over your heart, and men should remove their hats and hold them over their heart. (Dempsey, Martin). So even Congress believes that is what a person should do, but so they would not be in violation of 1st Amendment rights, they only recommended it, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So why would people stand for the anthem of a country that we know very little about, they may be oppressive to people of color too. We do it to show the world we are respectful people, and it is their anthem, whether we agree with the things they do, we should be respectful of that country and the people competing in the Olympics. All countries have some problems, and some people may not be treated unfairly, but we are not the ones to disrespect them during an Olympic performance. Too many times things are blown out of proportion through the media, so I would not disrespect someone because of something I saw or heard on the radio or television. Unless you are there you do not know all the facts of a situation. The only way we can make a difference is be there for each other and show our respect for this great country by standing for the national anthem. Respect is the one thing you can give freely and is always appreciated. You are telling the world that out of respect you are standing. Respect for a country that is united in times of need, free, and democratic. Just as you show elder people respect by being there for them. We are there for our country. The flag is a symbol of freedom, the song was written to commemorate an outstanding military victory, where we worked together and stood united to defend our country. So really standing during the song is not really too much to ask. It is done out of respect for a nation that has given so many so much. Remember when you are standing and listening to that anthem the many people that have lost their lives for that flag and as long as we stay united, then the bonds of this country become stronger. So show your respect for our country, our flag, our anthem and the world will see how truly strong this nation really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Summary Of The Lost Honor Of Katharina Blum Societal status and a woman s obligations play a role key role in the oppression of society and the police during the 1970s in Germany. The interactive oral presentation discussed the responsibilities as a housewife and limitations that were imposed on German women by the public. The discussion allowed me to understand the crucial role each of the characters in the novel The Lost Honor of Katharina Blum played which facilitates the author to express the satirical notion of the press and the inequitable roles people played in German society. A womans worth is only manifested by how she devotes her life to her family and marriage. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After his three year apprenticeship, Keats became a medical student at Guy s hospital. With his study taking over, he was losing time to write. He had always had a passion for literature, so he made up his mind to increase the time spent on poetry, and his first poem was published in 1814. Although he received his Apothecary licence in 1816, he decided to follow the path of his inspiration, Lord Byron, and become a poet. Five months before his first book, Poems , was published, Keats was introduced to one of Byron and Shelley s friends, Hunt, who helped him advance in his writing. His first book was not received to well by the public, neither was the rest of his work. In his lifetime, Keats work copped more hate than any other poet of his time. But by the end of the 19th century he was one of the most beloved poets studied. Actually Meg, on his gravestone Keats wanted to write Here lies one whose name was writ in water. He knew he wasn t appreciated in his time, and he would be washed away by those who read his name, yet he prophesised he would be appreciated in the years that followed. Keats met the love of his life who did love him for many years after his death, Fanny Brawne, in 1818. Straight from Long Beach, California, Sublime has made some of the most unique music to date. Their talents go beyond their popular songs on the radio like classic hits Santeria , What I Got , and Smoke Two Joints . Many classify Sublimeas stoner rock, which may be true, but their music isn t limited to only potheads. Sublimeis such an interesting band because of their origin, music, and their rise to fame. They will be up all night trying to slap a label on Sublime. They are compared to artists like Slightly Stoopid, 311, The Dirty Heads, Operation Ivy, and Pepper, though they still have a sound unlike any of those bands. On the subject of Sublime s sound, Bookman says: Sublime s music was highlighted by bass driven grooves, reggae rhythms, elaborately cadenced rhyme schemes and transitions between paces and styles throughout a given song, sometimes alternating between thrash punk, ska and reggae within the same song (see Seed ). Their music often contains psychedelic, harmonic, minor based or bluesy guitar solos, rhythmically improvised bass solos or dub lines, turntable scratching and rolling drum transitions and heavy bass lines. They are known for being one of the first and most influential reggae fusion musicians. (5) If I had to list every one of Sublime s influences, I d be here all day. It is a little known fact but many of Sublime s most popular hits are covers. I m not saying that they were a cover band. What Sublime did was more of a tribute to some of Nowell s favorite artists, and some are so obscure that they brought the originals more fame than before. • 10. William Chaucer s The Friar s Tale Society has always judged a person on his level of morality. This level of judgment has been evident since the immoral acts of Adam and Eve were committed. Some of these acts are dishonesty, adultery, and ignorance. The Friar s Tale makes these moral issues clear through various characters. The summoner and the Devilboth show dishonesty, abuse of power, and mercilessness. In this short story, Chaucer illustrates the theme of immorality and how it affects the character of all the persons in the tale. .Characters display dishonesty in The Friar s Tale . The summoner steals the money that he collects from peasants. Chaucer illustrates this act of immorality when he says, Now truly...so do I. I never spare to take a thing, knows God, unless it be too heavy or too hot. What I get for myself, and privately, no kind of conscience for such things have I . (170 174). The summoner is being dishonest to the people that he collects from by not telling him that he keeps the money. The summoner admits to the Devil that he steals. The summoner also says that he has no conscience. Therefore he can not be kept from evil. (Gray 115) Bowden addresses the summoner s immorality when he states, Fact and fiction both condemn him as especially licentious and dishonest. He also mentions how Gower writes of him as pretending to be poor but, in actuality, as being as rich as a king (Bowden 55). Stealing is immoral, and Bowden reinforces that the summoner is immoral and steals beyond need. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Lincoln Electric Company Essay The Lincoln Electric Company was founded in 1895 by John C. Lincoln, who then partnered with his younger brother James in 1907. The focus of the company originally was manufacturing electric motors, which then expanded to include battery chargers and in the early 1900 s to portable welding machines. (Lincoln Electric, 2016) The company was founded originally on a construct of Christian values, which may have played a role in creating the dominant culture of the corporation. (Sharplin) This paper presents an evaluative analysis of the business case study presented by Arthur Sharplin, with a focus on determining the overall corporate culture of Lincoln Electric categorically. John and James Lincoln professed to be devout Christians and embodied their faith in their treatment of their employees early on in the company. While a clear hierarchy and protection of management control was evident in their organizational structure, they ensured that employees had regular access to the management team both formally and informally. Management roles may have been protected and controlled but they were seen strictly as tasks to perform just as every other employee was assigned their tasks. In this respect the workplace was and remains designed strictly around function, no perks exist for management that do not exist for every employee. (Sharplin) This example points to the importance of a people oriented culture in the workplace and is almost egalitarian in nature. (Flat World Knowledge, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Supplementing the risk based capital requirement with a leverage ratio One of the primary feature of the Global Financial Crisis, as well as other previous financial crises, was the build up of excessive on and off balance sheet leverage in the banking system. The force on the banking system to reduce its leverage caused a forced decline on asset prices worsening the feedback between looses, deterioration in bank capital and the reduction of credit availability. The framework introduced a leverage ratio requirement, fixed at 3% (actuaries.asn.au, 2011), which aims to constrain leverage in the banking sector, and introduce additional protection against model risk and measurement error. This will help alleviate the risk of the deleveraging processes, which can damage the financial system (bis.org, 2010). Differentiation of selfhas an individual concept that is then applied to a couple or a familysystem. Where the concept of triangles differs is number of individuals involve. Bowen concluded that undifferentiated dyads will produce unstable and highly emotional families that then become the nuclear family emotional systems. The system s goal is to reduce the tension and gain stability. Bowen and his colleague, Michael Kerr, hypothesized that there were three patterns in which nuclear families dealt with intense emotional systems. The first pattern is spousal dysfunction where one individual disproportionately takes on the anxiety rather than addressing the family conflict (H. Goldenberg L. Goldenberg, 2013). The second pattern involves externalizes their personal anxieties onto the martial relationship. Control is a central aspect within the second pattern of martial conflict. Each individual of the original dyad tries to control one another and focus on the other s issues as an outlet of dealing with family tensions. Bowen and Kerr s final pattern was a child s psychological impairment. During this pattern, family or dyad tensions are ignored as one or both individuals focus more attention to the child. The projection of focus and anxiety on the child perpetuates the parental and couple tensions. Additionally, this focus lowers the child s differentiating level, increases negative thoughts or feelings toward the child, and creates impairment of health, socialization, and school performance. How Cinema and Theater Convey Pleasure in the Acts of Search and Lust In her essay, Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema , British film maker Laura Mulvey attempts to demystify how pleasure can be fulfilled in film. Contending that a pleasure in looking (scopohilia) and a pleasure in possessing the female as what to be looked at (voyeurism) fufills the audience s desires, Mulvey suggests how filmmakers use this knowledge to create film that panders to our innate desires. Important first is understanding what Mulvey is suggesting what it actually means to derive pleasure from a work as she sees it. She divides pleasure into two categories voyeurism and scopophilia that for her represent the complete fulfillment of human desires in a work. The question as to whether they can coexist harmoniously is the critical component of Hitchcock and Deren. The difference between these two artists and others, as it will soon be seen, is their uncanny ability to play toward both the need to look and the need to objectify women as the image of that look and do so in such a seamless manner that it can escape the audience s attention. How, artistically, do you implement Mulvey s suggestion that there is some desire to be gained by the idea of looking and seeking in art? There is a mirroring duality to much of this voyeurism we enjoy in cinema. The extreme contrast between the darkness of the auditorium (which also isolates spectators from one another) and the active search playing out on screen allow the individual audience members to feel voyeuristic as they watch in on someone else s narrative (Mulvey, 2184). It is dark and secretive, and they can watch in as Scottie, for example, attempts to figure out the enigmatic woman of his fantasy. Development Ethics And Environmental Injustices Essay Research Proposal Kazi A S M Nurul Huda Assistant Professor Department of Philosophy University of Dhaka Dhaka 1000, Bangladesh Title Development Ethics and Environmental Injustices in Bangladesh Research Problem Critiques of understanding development as regards the processes of economic growth, industrialization, and modernization are common on the grounds that it raises as many problems as it solves. As a reaction, some scholars propose a normative understanding of development as the point of departure for overcoming economic and social inequalities and deprivations. Hence, the question arises concerning how benefits and burdens of development should be distributed in society. This is also the main theme of what we call environmental justice. Apart from the problem of balanced distribution of costs and benefits, environmental justice also addresses the capacity of involvement in either directly or indirectly the decision making process in the society. This account makes it imperative that addressing environmental injustice depends on understanding how environmental hazards affect some people more than others. The aspects of environmental justice, therefore, are twofold: the participation in the decision making process and the just allocation of benefits and burdens. Taking this account into consideration, it can be argued with substantial evidence that the phenomena of environmental injustice are prevalent in Bangladesh. This proposal would also allow ISP s to block certain websites all together. For example, Verizon could block Google completely, forcing their customers to pay for the Verizon search engine. Not only would it add extra costs to your internet bill, but it would also create a tiered internet. This means that not only would customers have to pay for certain websites, but those same costly sites would have to pay the ISPs as well. • 42. The Cost-Volume-Profit Analysis The cost volume profit analysis (CVP) is used to help companies determine breakeven points and pricing for their products. It is a method of cost accounting ењЁased on determining the breakeven point of cost and volume of goods and is useful for managers making short term economic decisions (Investopedia, 2013). The mechanism of CVP begins with the revenue, so the price point and the volume of units sold (CliffNotes, 2013). A good way to understand the CVP analysis is using a simple income statement example (Choo Tan, 2011) The example that will be used here is a one product small company Acme, which makes ball bearings. The cost of producing one ball bearing is six cents. The objective for Acme in using CVP analysis is to determine how many ball bearings it must sell at its normal price in order to breakeven. Suppose its fixed costs are $100,000. If the normal price for a ball bearing is twenty cents that is the variable cost. The contribution is the revenue variable cost, so in this case 14 cents. The breakeven point is 100,000 / 0.14 = 714,286 ball bearings. There are a few different ways that the company can gain competitive advantage using the CVP method and the information that it generates about the business. The first thing the company can learn is with respect to pricing. The company needs to sell 714,286 ball bearings, so it will only produce ball bearings if it thinks that it can sell that many. This role seems like one that Shakespeare used simply to continue the progression of the play. This argument is mostly true with Balthasar who we learn very little about and who appears only when the plot necessitates it. On the other hand, Feste is a much more complex and central character. Shakespeare uses Feste to insert his own commentary about the playand the characters in it. Feste displays more cynicism and bitterness than other characters and his songs do not always align with the tone of the play. With Balthasar and Feste, Shakespeare takes two characters that fulfill the same role and has used them in entirely different ways to reach the goals he wants to achieve.
