The Pros And Cons Of Xenotransplantation
Animal experimentation is widely conducted for drug testing, medical training, education, as well
as Research and Development (R D). Over 100 million animals are killed in the laboratories
annually, and they are physically and psychologically traumatised by experimentation (PETA, 2017;
Live Science, 2017). However, the reality is that majority of animal experiments are unreliable.
Most of their sacrifices do not contribute to improving human health as the medical treatments
developed in animals rarely translate to human benefits due to the differing complexities between
experimental animals and humans (PETA, 2017; Live Science, 2017). Hence, we argue that the
role of animal experimentation in medical research is questionable.

Xenotransplantation is the procedure involving the transplantation of living cells, tissues or organs
from one species to another, particularly from animal to human (NHMRC, 2017). The most widely
studied animal species for xenotransplantation are pigs. Animals are genetically engineered to
produce human cells or substrates, which are used to incubate human organs (Vermeulen et al.,
2017). However, the ethical implications of such applications are debatable.
Since most of the animals involved in transplantation are genetically engineered (transgenic
animals), xenotransplantation is viewed by many as an unnatural and inappropriate interference in
nature (Manesh et al. 2014). Besides the deontological arguments, the consequences and
complications of transplantation process lead to ethical issues. Before and after the transplantation
procedure, the organ receiver must consume large doses of immunosuppressive drugs, which greatly
affects their immune system. The lack of scientific evidence on the desired functions of transplanted
organs on individual patients undermines the procedure s

Sandstone Country Club Incident Essay
On an extremely hot August night at Sandstone Country Club, an incident occurred between a
server and a cook. Roberto, the server, was not receiving great tips and was having a tough night
with his tables, due to the high capacity of people getting dinner and the heat making customers
and other workers impatient. When Dr. Steele and his table sat at one of his tables, he knew he
had to try his hardest to keep him happy because he was a generous tipper but very critical if the
service is bad. Almost everything that could go wrong with Dr. Steele s order went wrong. First,
he ordered a special that had already run out for the night. Dr. Steele was already angry and
ordered lamb, which Roberto knew would take a long time. When Dr. Steele asked for a second
time to check on their food because his group had tickets to a play, Roberto went to Steve, the
cook, and told him to stop making the lamb and make whatever was fastest. Steve was already
getting angry with Roberto for shouting orders at him and blaming the cooks for his rough night,
but told him he could make him a pasta dish. When Roberto relayed this news to Dr. Steele, he was
fed up and his group left the restaurant.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the issue with Roberto had been addressed earlier and the cooks had tried to calmly talk to
him, some problems may have been avoided. The action of firing Roberto shows his staff that he
cannot accept an attitude like that in the workplace and will almost scare people into mouthing
off to other co workers when they are angry, which is good because they won t anger their co
workers. Giving disciplinary action to Steve is also necessary to convey the message that violence
in the workplace is not acceptable either and will ensure that the staff thinks before they act on their
anger in the

Analysis Of D C 121-26-31
At the time the verses in D C 121 26 31 were written in 1839 only 22 of the 100+ major bodies in
the solar system that we know of today had been documented. By 1899, nine more would be added
bringing the 20th century in with a grand total of 31.
In the first verse it talks about God giving knowledge by His Holy Spirit. It does appear as if the
Holy Ghost is revealing knowledge to the world. It seems to be revealed though a select group of
individuals that have not only great passions for science and extremely brilliant minds. But can

is closer than the Space Station to Earth) which permitted even more data to be gathered. So much
more data, that new measurements had to be created to meet the data that is being collected on the
mission. Scientist have even made adjustments to the axes to allow greater efficiency and
conservation of resources so that the craft has a time extension for the mission. As an added bonus
this craft will also benefit commercial and government manufactures of spacecraft and
geostationary satellites, they will be cheaper to produce and give them new maneuvering
capabilities. For now Electric propulsion is the only way to transport data for scientific research

To His Coy Mistress is a passionate plea by a young man to his mistress to go to bed with him.
He uses flattery ( an hundred years should go to praise / thine eyes ), fear ( thy beauty shall no
more be found ) and enthusiasm ( Let us roll all our strength, and all / Our sweetness, up into one
ball ) to persuade her to give up her virginity. He is only concerned with moving his relationship on
to the sexual stage and, apart from the pleasure this will bring, he has no thought of its
consequences.
The woman in The Beggar Woman at first seems anything but reluctant to have sex with the
gentleman she meets, but in fact she has a different agenda. She has a baby strapped to her back
and by exploiting the gentleman s lust ( I should be loth / to come so far and disoblige you both )
she is able to transfer it to him. She then leaves him with the child as a lesson in the consequences
of casual sex.
I trust the child to you with all my heart But, ere you get another, ten t amiss To try a year or two
how you ll keep this.
One Flesh is a meditation by a child on her parents who are now too old for sex. They sleep in the
same room but in separate beds and chastity faces them . This seems natural to the daughter (

Net Neutrality
Introduction:
Net Neutrality is allowing users to free and open access of internet irrespective of sources or
internet providers demanding special charges in order to use services provided by them. Now a
days Internet is one of the essential part for everyday communication in life. Several services
were used in our day to day life for example GPS tracking, google, Wikipedia, Netflix etc., and we
can t imagine a day without the internet. Internet Service providers combining with corporations
were utilizing this and trying to make profit out of this by imposing more charges on the user in
order to utilize the services needed for him with more speed and flexibility. There are several
discussions and debates supporting and opposing net neutrality. ... Show more content on

A School For Unusual Girls
Okay, I don t know what else to say besides the fact that I absolutely loved this book. I really
enjoy books that take place in historical settings, like The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra
Clare and His Fair Assassin series by Robin LaFevers. This book was sort of a mix between the
two. Set in 1814 London, we are introduced to Georgiana Fitzwilliam who is currently trapped in a
carriage with her parents on their way to this infamous boarding school. From what we learn in the
synopsis, this boarding school that is supposed to reform young ladies into marriageable quality
through various tactics not excluding torture. But, that is only the sales pitch given to the parents
of these unusual girls. The school is actually some sort of training ground for spy... Show more

The story is so rich and vivid in its descriptions and characters that you can t help but be put
under a spell. If it wasn t for school coming up on finals week, I would have finished this book in
one sitting it was so good. I can t wait for more, I need the sequel now not some undeclared date
in the future. There is so much mystery and danger throughout the book, it is so deceptively
written than you don t realize things until it is far too late sort of like Georgie. I would
recommend this to any fans of Grave Mercy and Clockwork Angel, or to anyone who enjoys spy
novels and historical fiction. This book is much more than just a spy novel, at least in my
opinion, but it seems a somewhat fitting classification. I would say this book is appropriate for
ages thirteen and up, the proper decorum of the characters and situations eliminates a lot of adult
content which makes it appropriate for younger readers. There is still a lot that goes on, and the
few kisses that are there are intense. This will be one of the series I follow until completion and

Beauty Is A Timeless Obsession
Beauty is a timeless obsession. In these days, physical beauty is paraded and idolised. The
desire in pursuing a beautiful face and the dream body figure can be seen as a needs in an
individual s life that must be fulfilled accordingly. The beauty obsession in human s life has
already started back in 1400 BC, whereby it is believed that people especially women who lived
during the ancient years were exposed to beauty. All women from back then had some sort of
regimen to maintain their beauty and their beauty ritual maybe considered as ultra luxurious as the
beauty products were invented from natural ingredients such as milk, almond oils and honey to

Essay On Christmas Tree Fires
Tis the season for Christmas trees to take their annual places in our homes. And as we all know,
Christmas trees are meant to be cheery, not charred. However, that s not always the case.
Between 2010 and 2014, Christmas tree fires caused an average of six deaths per year, 16 civilian
injuries and $16.2 million in direct property damage, according to data from the National Fire
Protection Association.
Although these occurrences are rare only an estimated 210 happen each year in the United States

Malcolm X Ideology
Malcolm X a Black Nationalist leader was born on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska served as
a spokesmen for the Nation of Islam during the 1950s and 1960s.It is said by historians that he
was the one of the reasons that the nation of Islam went form 400 members to 40,000 members
from 1952 to 1960 s and continued to grow well into the 1980s and into the 21st century. This was
due to the fact that he gave very articulate and passionate speeches that would lead to bigger and
bigger audiences. He told blacks to end racismby any means necessary which included violence.

An Introduction To Private Health Insurance
INTRO
Private health Insurance is a $1.42 billion (before tax) industry in Australia (Seah, 2012) and has
played a prominent role in the country s health system for over 60 years. As of 2009, 51per cent of
the Australian population was covered by some form of private health insurance. Private health
insurance is a regulated industry; this means it is controlled by government legislation under the
Private Health Insurance Act (2007). Private health insurers are required to register under this Act,
and the policies they sell must adhere to these regulations (Shamsullah, 2011). Due to the size and
regulation of the industry managers in the sector may face many complex challenges.
Complex management has been around for thousands of years. Basic management tools that were
used in the past have formed the foundations of the theories that have shaped today s management
practices. One of the major challenges in today s organisational environments is the
interconnectedness of all management aspects. It can be difficult for leaders to identify the exact
problem, the cause of the problem and what relevant information (within the available abundance)
is relevant and could be used to address problems (Maznevski, 2007). This study aims to analyse the
issues and problems faced by HealthCo and provide potential solutions and recommendations to
enhance management and business success.
BACKGROUND:
HealthCO is a longstanding, leading company in the Australian health insurance industry.

Statistical And Non Probabilistic Methods
3.7 Sampling Procedures and Techniques.
3.7.1 Sampling Method
The researcher will be using a combination of both probabilistic and non probabilistic method as the
research is largely qualitative in nature but there are elements of a quantitative nature. By using a
combination of sampling methods it will allow the research to be more realistic and not skewed.
The researcher will apply a non probability purposive method and using the Heterogeneous
sampling technique while analyzing the phenomenon at InterChem Limited as well as a probability
technique of a cluster to ascertain the influence of strategic innovation in the SME sector.
3.7.2 Sample Size
The researcher will be using a census as a result of the population size to ascertain the influence of
strategic innovation on Interchem. According to the central limit theorem which states that if the
minimum number with the sample is 50 or less then a census should be conducted. This is the
most appropriate technique to use due to the size of the population. The population at InterChem
limited is below 30 and they will be developed as the sample frame. The nature of this research is a
case study of Interchem Limited and how strategic innovation can influences it as an SME.
3.8 Data Analysis Technique
3.8.1 Data analysis plan.
The researcher will use largely qualitative data analysis which according to Glaser (1992) is any

The Flow of the River, by Loren Eiseley Essay
When reflecting and writing on Eiseley s essay and the magical element , I balk. I think to
myself, What magic? , and then put pen to page. I dubiously choose a kiddie pool to draw
inspiration from, and unexpectedly, inspiration flows into me. As I sit here in this little 10x30
foot backyard, the sky is filled with the flowing gaseous form of water, dark patches of moist
earth speckle the yard, the plants soak up their scattered watering, and the leaves of bushes and
trees imbue the space with a sense of dampness from their foliage. As my senses tune into the
moisture that surrounds me, I fill Braedon s artificial pond with water. I stare at the shimmering

Of all the ways Eiseley imparts his impressions of water and the manner its magic impregnates the
world, the one not mentioned is the most intriguing to me. The way he was moved to write about
water because of its relationship to his past, is waters definitive magic. The concept of water was
the vehicle that transported his feelings to thoughts, and from thoughts to his narrative. He found
enchantment where others would have just found a mundane substance. He even writes, ...the
enormous mindlessness of space settles down upon the soul. There are others that would contend
that there is more magic in the cosmos than in water, but there is a resonance that is stirred in
Eiseley, by water s magic. When I sit and think about water, these are some sentiments that stream
from me: water, an oasis of cool relief for my throat, when sand dunes and wandering Bedouin
nomads migrate on the desert of my tongue; the last days of elementary school when the tease of a
late spring swim hints at the summer to come, and the time spent slipping the bonds of my
corporeal existence, floating in that ethereal substance; of the cool shade of broad leafed trees
drawing water up to their verdant canopy to their aquatic reservoir, sharing a respite from the
unforgiving heat of an afternoon sun. Water flows through most of my happiest

Essay On Roanoke
There are a multitude of mysteries in life, some greater than others. Some mysteries are solvable,
and some we can only create solutions for in both well made and sloppily built theories. America
itself has had its fair share of mysteries, some bigger than others, but by far one of the oldest may
be the mysterious conditions surrounding the lost colony of roanoke. In current day North
Carolina resides a series of small island; and within this cluster of islands lives Roanoke. It s
name comes from the very mystery that haunts the place, Roanoke Colony. Almost 500 years ago,
100 or so men, women, and children disappeared somewhere over the course of 3 years. Among
these colonists were Eleanor Dare and her daughter, the first english child to be born in what would

The second colony fell under the same circumstances, though the hostility between the colonists and
natives was more strained. When the third expedition finally came around, it was led not by Sir
Walter Raleigh, but instead by english artist John White ( Ancient Origins.net;
Encyclopediavirginia.org ). It was at this point the tensions between the colonists and the natives
relaxed enough for relatively friendly communications to begin. The hostility fell away when it
was realized that White had brought along not only male colonists, but women and children,
including his daughter Eleanor Dare and her husband, Annaise Dare. Her child, Virginia Dare, was
the first english child born in the americas ( history.com ). With their relations greatly improving
with local natives, it seemed as though the english colony of Roanoke was faring much better than
its predecessors. Unfortunately, not unlike the previous colonies, they began to suffer from a
severe lack of resources. In the year 1587, John White left Roanoke and sailed back to england in
hopes of returning with more supplies. His departure, however, occurred during a

Taking a Look at Def Leppard
Have you ever turned on the radio in your vehicle and heard an out rageous rock song? Yeah that
s right it s Def. Leppard. They have been tour and doing shows for twenty five plus year and still
jamming as we speak. This band has been through just about everything you could think of and
surprisingly they are still together after drug over dose, care accident, and divorcees. First of all
Def. Leppard should get this award because they have very good musical and are a pretty sweet
bad. The other reasons I think they should get this award is because they have a lot of
achievements. The first achievement that I liked was they were on the Bill Board 200 with their
song Hysteria , sold 10,000 in the first week of it being out, and also with the song Hysteria spent
six weeks at number one and 133 weeks on the Bill Board 200. (Caulfield 57) There next
achievement was that there was a big accident and there main drummer lost his arm. So he was
back to playing the drums. That s when they made the big hit Hysteria in 1983 whit there album
Pyromania after the car accident. (Tamenbaum 16). There next big achievement was that Phil Collen
and Vivian Campbell had there amazing guitar abilities over looked. (Hammond 16 20). The
next achievement I believe is very good because Def. Leppard and Kiss are paring up to go on tour
to support our troops in the U.S.A. (Fekadu) The next award that they received was The 2008

Sir Robert Peel s Nine Principles
Of the nine principles Sir Robert Peel implemented to guide police in the late 1829s, I would state
that all nine are being used to an extent, however, each department in the United States are
different. Below are each principle (numbered) followed by my assessment of the principles in
today s law enforcement.
1. The basic mission for which the police exist is to prevent crime and disorder.
This principle is the still basis for every police department, in today s law enforcement there is a lot
more police service being provided such as; investigations, SWAT Teams, Traffic, and numerous
others to include numerous sub departments of those.
2. The ability of the police to perform their duties is dependent upon public approval of police ...

7. Police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic
tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police, the police only being members
of the public who are paid to give fulltime attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen
in the interests of community welfare and exercise.
I would say that law enforcement does not follow this principle. In today s society, it would be
very difficult to maintain this relationship. When the police are involved in a shooting, the
public says the police always used to much force. If it is a black person, it is police brutality and
they are racist. It has nothing to do with the details of the incident or that they happen to be a
criminal. The incident is never looked at and accessed by the facts, the person being stopped did
not listen to or obey the police, resisted arrest, and these reasons lead to the shooting. Basically, the
root cause of the incident started when the person getting stopped did not obey the

Motorcycle And Sweet Grass Analysis
The novel Motorcycles and Sweet Grass by Drew Hayden Taylor, is an award winning native
comedy. Taylor includes many themes and symbols that enhance and accompany those themes.
There are many different themes and symbols that Taylor has incorporated into his novel. Some
include crows, raccoons, sweetgrass and John s motorcycle. In the novel, symbols are a big part of
story line development and help enhance themes. The symbols that I will use are the raccoons, the
crow and John s last names. These symbols relate to and enhance primarily mythology.
In the Novel Taylor uses the raccoons as a way of showing the connection between the natives and
nature. Taylor writes about how the raccoons have problems regarding John and how they appear

The crow signifies that something important and big is about to happen. In the novel the crow is
only mention once and that is when john arrives. That means that there is something about john
that is not very normal. A sign at the side of the road said: WELCOME TO OTTER LAKE,
HOME OF THE ANISHIWABE PEOPLE. I think that this quote is important because the black
crow is very symbolic and it is sitting on top of the Otter Lake sign which means something big
is going to happen there. When John sees the crow and imitates it, not like a human, but it
sounded exactly like an authentic crow call. The rider lifted his helmet an inch or so until only
its mouth was visible. And from that mouth came a loud caw. Not a human imitating a crow, but
what seemed to the crow as an authentic crow caw. When john approaches the crow sitting on
otter lake sign and looks up at it and caws but not like somebody imitating, but like a real crow,
that is very important. Its important because the crow symbolizes something big is abou to happen
and also John cawing like a real crows tells us that there is some things about him that is not quite
normal. In conclusion, the crow is the first big part in the story and the first clue telling us that john

Discoveries In William Shakespeare s The Tempest
Discoveries are an intricate concept, which are influenced by many interconnected elements
showing the significance of an individual s experience of confronting and provocative discoveries
to affirm or challenge assumptions and beliefs about aspects of human experience. Through
physical and mental exploration, the ability to recognise the importance of discoveries is the

William Shakespeares 1611 tragicomedy The Tempest, Siegfried Sassoons 1918 collection of war

Through The Tunnel Short Story
Everybody has experienced the innocence of the childhood mind. Whether you see it in another
child or experienced it yourself, everyone at some point has come across a kid who is figuring out
their way in this world. Many kids are curious and adventurous and these tactics are usually
motivated from within. The constant push to have more adultbehaviors is usually self started,
beginning with the child wanting to be treated more like an adult. In the stories Through the Tunnel
, The Passage and The Intruder , all of the children push themselves into being adults instead of
being pressured by others. Instead, they have all of the pressure on their own shoulders. Therefore,
in the following stories, the author utilizes key symbols to exaggerate a young child s own
motivational push into adulthood. In the story Through the tunnel, the author displays the tunnel as
a symbol that represents a child s constant need to feel mature and to fit in with the older kids.
Jerry, the young boywantedso desperately to be treated older than he was, so he persuaded his
mother to allow him to swim by the older boys. He exclaimed To be with them, of them, was a
craving that filled his whole body (Lessing 2). This shows a glance of Jerry s desire to be one of
the others that he looked up to. He so desperately wanted to be like the other boys that he looked
past all worries and knew he had to conquer the tunnel: He knew he must find his way through the

Being Belle In The High School Musical Beauty And The Beast
As Isaac Marion once said, Every experience, good or bad, is a priceless collector s item. In life, I
have experienced the highest of my highs and lowest of my lows. I have been bullied to the
point where I could not leave my room. I have also been with a group of people where I could not
speak a coherent sentence because we were laughing so much. Each experiencehas impacted me in
some way, whether it was big or small, and has shaped me for the better or worse. Being Belle in
the high school musical Beauty and the Beast was an experience that improved my
organizational skills, changed how I approached a crowd, and changed how my peers saw me and
how I saw myself. As a result of the musical, I have bettered my organizational skills. Since I was

I could hear people whisper statements such as, Wow, I didn t know she could sing or We all

me because I was one level. I was smart, and the majority of my class, athletic (SC 2). Before the
musical, academics was the only activity that people recognized me by. I did do other activities
besides academics, but only my closest friends knew that I could play the piano or draw. Just like
my peers, my mother didn t even know I could sing.
Consequently, the musical helped change how others saw me. Suddenly, people realized I was
more than just a girl who had a 4.0 GPA. People who I had never talked to before knew my name.
When I walked down the hall, I felt like a celebrity such as Angelina Jolie or Jennifer Lawrence,

Consequently, dynamic mechanisms like finding the Global Time Master during the operation by
the best master clock algorithm (BMCA) (described in IEEE802.1AS) are not required. The cyclic

Critical Analysis Of Doris Lessing s Through The Tunnel
Doris Lessing (1919 2013) was a British novelist, poet and playwright. She was awarded the
2007 Nobel Prize in Literature. In 1955, she wrote the short story, Through the Tunnel, which is
one of her famous stories. At the crowded beach (Lessing 1), Jerry, the young English boy, and
his widowed mother take a holiday. They have enjoyed their holidays on the beach for many
years, but this year, he is interested in a wild and rocky bay (Lessing 1) near the beach and goes
there for the first time. He encounters some boys who seem to be older than him there. They go
through a long tunnel underwater with breath lasting long. However, at first, Jerry cannot find even
the tunnel s entrance, so he asks his mother to buy some goggles and gains perspective... Show

The tunnel is literally the way of hardship he must pass through. The feeling that he first holds
against the tunnel is fear. While the boy who he encounters at the bay is passing through this
tunnel, Jerry, after waiting for the sleek brown head to appear, let out a yell of warning (Lessing
2) because he is afraid of the boy being drowned. Also, when he finds the entrance to the tunnel,
somethings soft and clammy touched his mouth, he saw a dark frond moving against the greyish
rock, and panic filled him (Lessing 4). He has a fear against the tunnel and the fear implies how
difficult his rite of passage to become an adolescent is for him. In addition, the length of the tunnel
represents the scale of the trial that he must pass, and going through the tunnel without air indicates
that he cannot go back, and must move forward.
Third, he accomplishes his purpose and returns to his former place. Although he is prepared for
death at one time, he finally succeeds in passing through the tunnel. After overcoming the
challenge, he soon returns to the villa where his mother waits for him. He has striven for one
goal, so he has no more to do anything now: It was no longer of the least importance to go to the
bay (Lessing 6). He certainly grows both mentally and physically, and returns to his original

Synthetic Proteins And Cellular Components Essay
Now with the GFP in the lysate solution with other soluble proteins and cellular components, we
need a strong and specific process that targets only the GFP and not the other parts of the
mixture. This strong and specific process used is called affinity chromatography, in which one
substance can be purified by using its specific interaction with another substance. In this case,
GFP has six histidines at its N terminus which can easily bond to Ni2+and this interaction can be
used to purify the GFP from the lysate by using a Ni NTA column. This Ni NTA column allows
for solutions to follow through except components that can easily bond to the immobilized Ni2+
ion in the column s silica matrix. Before we could use the Ni NTA column, we had to equilibrate
it by adding some binding buffer to the column that washes and prepares the column and then
centrifuge. After the column is ready for use, the bacterial lysate can be added to the column, with
some left for later analysis. The column is then centrifuged in order for the mixture to flow
through the matrix and separate those components that can bind to Ni2+ (not necessarily only
GFP) and those that simply flowed through. The liquid from the collection tube is collected and
transferred into a tube and labeled F for flow through (Figure 1, lane F). At this point the GFP is
bound to Ni2+ in the matrix of the Ni NTA column, however it is not alone. Many other proteins
and cellular components may have bound to the column as well due

This is because while zoos try to raise awareness on conservation programs by allowing visitors to
have a close interaction with animals, this however sometimes comes at the expense of the animals
welfare (Calyton, Fraser, Saunders, 2009).Research has suggested that visitors can affect animal
behaviour and stress physiology even when animals are separated by barriers (Fernandez et al.,
2009). A recent study has indicated that when exposed to visitors, the level of vigilance increased
in both Kangaroo Island kangaroos and Red kangaroos. Furthermore, Kangaroo Island kangaroos
would increase time spent in locomotion and decrease time spent on resting (Sherwen, 2015). In
addition, previous studies have shown that social factors and conditions of confinement have
proven to cause stress for tree kangaroos (Hutchins et al., 1991). As a consequence, this reduces the
chances of reproductive success, thus zoo populations are declining. A more detailed understanding
of tree kangaroo behaviour and stress triggers is needed to advance the reproductive success of this

Smallpox Is An Acute Contagious Disease
SMALLPOX Introduction Smallpox is an acute contagious disease that is caused by the variola
virus which is a member of the Genus Orthopoxvirus family. It infects humans only as a result of
its ability to escape the host immune system, and avoid any further activation (Koplow 2003).
The virus is a two stranded DNA virus. There exist two forms of the variola virus namely the
variola major and variola minor. Variola major is the one that is lethal, while variola minor is not
lethal but a mere strain. The most common strain is the variola major, which produces the more
severe symptoms and with a higher fatality rate of 20% to 40%, within a week of infection
(Koplow 2003). Key features of the life cycle(s) The initial step is whereby the virus attaches to the
host cell and infects an individual. It normally enters through the respiratory system. It attaches to
the mouth, trachea or lung mucosa. The cells forming the mucous membrane are loosely packed
hence permitting penetration and movement into the saliva. Once the virus reaches the cell
membrane, it penetrates through endocytosis. In the host cell, the main protein in released
(Koplow 2003). The virus replicates in the cytoplasm of the host cell. DNA replication and
transcription may start immediately as the virus itself contains enzymes for replication and
transcription. It does not rely on the host cell enzymes to begin replication (Koplow 2003). First,
the DNA and RNA polymerase are made, along with other transcription

Andrew Carnegie s The Gospel Of Wealth
There is a debate on whether or not the top one percent truly deserve the mass of wealth they
have come to claim. Many do not realize how unbalanced our wealth distribution is in the United
States. Many believe that the wealthy deserve higher tax rates or must redistribute their wealth
amongst the lower classes. Many see the wealthy as a terrible, greedy class. But one person
thought the wealthy class was a great, beneficial thing. That person was Andrew Carnegie, who
was long story short, one of the most successful businessmen ever. Like every coin, there is an
opposite side and that side was Karl Marx. Marx was a firm advocate of communism. He found
mass amounts of wealth to be a bad thing. He also believed that the wealthy only existed because
of the working class and once the working class could not find work, they will turn on the wealthy
and destroy them. Marx believed that the government should maintain equality amongst the people.

A Common Problem Faced By Immigrants Essay
Recent happenings around the world have brought the subject of migration to the forefront of
everyday conversation. However, the migration phenomenon is not a new one but can be traced as
far back as human history itself. In some way, migration can be seen as an innate part of animal
behavior and the human experience. Historically, several push and pull factors have forced several
groups to move across the globe in the hopes of improving their situations. However, the
circumstances surrounding one s migration to a new place differs for each individual. Apart from
the political and economic strife of migration to a different country, immigrants and refugees are
left with the added struggle of maintaining their social identity, culture, and kinship when
acclimating to a new environment.
In order to properly explain this topic, I draw on the information from several articles, lectures,
films, and interviews I have conducted with close family and friends.
A common problem faced by immigrants is social identity. Social identity refers to the need to
identify as a member of a group and not merely as an individual. Man is a social being and being
able to identify with a group helps in giving a sense of belonging, developing self esteem and a
sense of pride. Social identity and sense of self are therefore important to an individual s well
being. As a member of a group, every individual performs the role(s) and expectations of that group.
However, intersectional identities exist

This problem results in the inability to dress himself and demonstrated poor performance in school

his button touched. When he is at home, he avoided wearing clothes with buttons and prevents
himself from touching buttons that others wore. His fear of buttons begins when he accidently

I.There are three causes of phobias
A.Phobias may be memories passed down genetically by ancestors
1.Memories can be transferred to one generation to another through gene transfers that allow
offspring to inherit the experience of their ancestors. The information is transferred biologically
through chemical changes that occur in the DNA. For example, the fear of arachnid like spiders,
ticks and mites and the defence mechanism develop from it may be inherited genetically.
2.Nature Neuroscience Journal published a research that shows a mouse trained to become scared
of cherry blossoms smell before they are allowed to breed, produce offspring that show the same
fearful response towards the cherry blossom although they only encounter it for the first time.
3.Dr Brian Dias from Emory University stated that their result enable them to understand how the
experience of their parents, before conceiving offspring can influence the structures and functions in
the nervous system of following generations

represent the problems with the society and that by being Ignorant and wanting too much could

Dickens makes the ghost of Christmas past seem peaceful and affectionate by his description. By

Another method Dickens uses to get across his point of view is contrast. One of the best times

experiments comparing the ratings given to college professors by classes at the end of the
semester with ratings that another group of students gave the same professors based only on
three ten second silent voice clips shown prior to any actual lectures. They found that both of the
groups agreed on how good or bad the professors were. Another question was brought to the
table; is we re not consciously and rationally judging people, what causes us to initially like or
dislike them? Daniel Kahneman a Nobel Prize winning author and psychologist believes the
answer lies in the mental shortcuts we use to help us make decisions. An idea, based off a book
called What You See Is All There Is, is that when the mindmakes a decision it deals only in known
knowns and largely ignores facts about that might make decisions more complex. For example,
when we meet someone that we know very little about, we decide that we all know is what is true
and ignore the new facts. The lasting effects of this belief can damage relationships with other
people.
While reading this article I felt that I could take on any future job interview head on. It gives the
science behind first impressions and suggests advantages to help in your first impression. It is
interesting to know that there is a scientific term for people being attracted to one another. The

Use of Force Continuum Essay
A use of force continuum is a standard that affords law enforcement officials security officers
(police, probation, or corrections) with guidelines as to how much use of force may be used
against a repelling subject in a given situation. In certain ways it is similar to the military s
escalation of force. The reason of these models is to clarify, both for officers and citizens, the
complex subject of use of force by law officers. They are often vital parts of law enforcement
agencies use of force policies. Although various agencies have developed different models of the
continuum, there is no universal standard model (Stetser, 2001, p. 36)
The initial examples of use of force continuum were developed in the 1980s and early ... Show more

Hard controls includes the use of tools such as hand cuffs, while soft controls compares to empty
hand techniques, describing techniques where the officer must engage a resisting detainee. When
escalating, intended submission to cuffs is a feasible way to prevent the need for empty hand
submission techniques which place the officer and the detainee at physical risk. When decreasing,
hard controls (i.e.: cuffs and isolation in the rear seat of a cruiser) gives officers a reasonable and
achievable goal after a dispute with a detainee during which higher levels of force may have been
mandatory.
1. Physical Presence: Depending on the entirety of the conditions, a call/situation may require
additional officers or an on scene officer may request assistance in order to gain better control of
the situation and gain more safety for themselves. Depending on the circumstances of the
situation: for example, depending how many people are on scene with the officer determines if a
larger presence is required. However, if ten officers arrive at a scene with only a single suspect, the
suspect may perceive he is under arrest; as a large police presence can constitute an arrest based on
the suspect s perceptions.
2. Verbal Commands: Stop! ; Put the gun down! ; Please calm down.
3. Soft Control: Empty hand combat technique or PPCT (Pressure Point Control Techniques)
4. Hard Control: Intermediate Weapons (i.e.: baton , Taser, OC Spray, etc.)

The Importance Of My Personal Identity
What is your identity? People think they know someone s identity by the external factors, but
there are internal factors that they don t know about the person. For example, people might
think people are happy, but deep down they might be sad and they don t want nobody to find
out. I define myself as a catholic heterosexual 15 year old Latina. My identity is very different
than what others think of me. I think my real identity is awesome, some people think that
because I am a teenager I m into parties,relationships,drugs and also how I m a teenager, I don t
like kid shows or playing with my little cousins also they think I don t do kid stuff anymore. My
real identity is very different from the other teenagers around me. I love to play with my niece
bella and my cousins. I love spending time with my family like if I would have to choose
between going with my friends to the movies or my family I would choose my family 1000times.
When my family and I go to beautiful places I m always taking pictures of nature, what going on
during the events. Nature is one of my favorite things because there are many beautiful things to
admire. Like when I go to the beach I like to stare at the waves and the sea shells come in and
leave. Another thingI like is summer because there are so many thingsyou can do than in the winter
or any other season. Summer is my favorite because we go to so many places and parties also you
re never home which means you ll rarely get bored. It also means you get to go on vacation. Art is
something I like because it s a way I can express myself, I love to draw and paint another thing I
like to do is observe art because I can imagine different things based on the art. Social media like
Snapchat, instagram, Facebook etc are amazing because you re able to see what other people are
going also a magnificent way of communicating with family and friends far far away. I love to be
under water even though I don t know how to swim but I m learning. One of my hobbies is to
cook, I also love to bake. Cooking makes me happy because I can use my creativity to make new
recipes I make really good food and mostly because they are my mom s recipes. Movie theaters are
great places to spend quality time with

How Whistleblowing Is A Major Issue For Private Organizations
Kyler Wilson December 6, 2016 Professional Ethics Final Paper Whistleblowing can be a major
issue for private organizations who may bend or break the rules to get an upper hand in the
business world. This can be a key threat to both every day employees as well as middle and
upper management level positions. The two articles being looked at for this argument are both
one that supports whistleblowing in the workplace as well as another article that argues against
whistleblowing. The article supporting whistleblowing is titled Why are there so few
whistleblowers? Blame evolution, and is written by Paul Rauwolf and Dominic Mitchell, who
have both earned their PhD s from the University of Bath. The article was published in the
Washington Post. The theory that most supports this article are the ideas of Kant. The title of
the article against whistleblowing is titled Why Are Some Whistleblowers Vilified and Others
Celebrated? The article is written by David M. Mayer, he is a writer for the Harvard Business
Review. This article was published by the Harvard Business Review. The theory supporting this
article is utilitarianism, this can be seen through the importance of doing what is best for everyone
involved, not just yourself. The third theory that can be argued is the idea of W.D. Ross and his
prima facia duties. The concept of whistleblowing can be a touchy subject in the professional
world, but it can be a vital towards promoting a healthy and stable work environment. The

Animal Slaughterhouses Should Be Illegal
Animal slaughterhouses should be illegal
Each year, 56 billion farmed animals are killed by humans worldwide for food. 3,000 of these
deaths happen every second and come from the animal slaughterhouses. They are legal in countries
all over the world despite the brutal killing that goes on inside of them. If slaughterhouses had
glass doors, would we consider changing the laws around how they are used? Assuming that it is
essential for animals to be killed, they deserve to die painlessly in their natural habitat.
Confining and killing an animal in an environment which is not their natural habitat is wrong. We
are the only ones that have the choice to decide whether we hold animals captive in a building to
slaughter them or kill them while living in their natural habitat. To hold an animal captive is unfair.
It makes them frustrated and scared since it is only lengthening the time that it is taking for them to
be slaughtered to their deaths. If we were to ban these inhumane slaughter houses, it would make a
massive difference as to how quick and more peaceful the deaths of animals would be considering
the disturbing methods animals are currently undertaking in slaughterhouses. ... Show more content

Some of the ways in which animals are slaughtered include being stunned electrically or gassed
before being killed. Captive bolt stunning is the most common way to slaughter a larger animal
such as a cow. This involves having a pistol placed against their head then shooting a metal rod into
their brains. But more often than not, it misses the target. Throat cutting and using chest sticks are
alternative ways to kill an animal before being sent off to make meat and are both used to make
them bleed to death. If humans were to do anything similar like this to each other we would be
locked up for manslaughter because it is considered

The International Labour Organization and Its Attempt to...
Introduction This essay will look at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and its attempts
to alleviate child labour up until now. Firstly, a definition of child labour will be provided after
which an introductory overview will be given about the ILO s activities against child labour.
Thereafter, a critical assessment will be provided regarding the ILO s steps against child labour,
and some major problems will be highlighted regarding the ILO s approach to eliminate child
labour. Defining Child Labour Mowing the lawn, washing the car and dishes, or cleaning the
kitchen are the types of tasks that most children dislike to do. However, tasks such as these are
not defined as child labour. Generally speaking, child labour is defined as something along the
lines of: Labour that exploits children and restricts their mental and physical development , and
thus household chores, in most cases, cannot be considered to be a form of child labour. However,
labour that is not appropriate for children, such as working with dangerous machinery, mining, or
work that exposes children to sexual abuse, can be defined as child labour. This is due to the fact
that, in situations like the ones described, children are exposed to exploitation and to circumstances
that are detrimental to their physical and mental health. That being said, labour in itself is not
considered to be necessarily a bad thing for children, since it can provide them with many learning
opportunities. For example,

Child Abuse Is A Social Problem Essay
Child abuse is a social problem that continuously produces a wave of concern. The State of New
Jersey Department of Children and Families explains that Abuse is the physical, sexual or
emotional harm or risk of harm to another child under the age of 18 caused by a parent or other
person who acts as a caregiver for the child (2016). The harsh reality of child abuseand its
consequences is recognized throughout this essay. The cost of child abuse can be understood
through direct and indirect costs. Direct costs describe those of the child welfare system, judicial
and law enforcement, health and mental health systems (New Jersey Child Assault Prevention,
2015). Comparatively, indirect costs apply to much more long term problems/a turn of events the
child victim and their abuser(s) may have. These costs involve the effects abuse has or may have
in regards to education, mental health, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, welfare dependency,
domestic violence, homelessness, juvenile delinquency and adult criminality (New Jersey Child
Assault Prevention, 2015). It costs a substantial amount of money to deal with child abuse.
Moving away from these consequences, it is arguable that children exposed to violence or abuse,
if left unaddressed or ignored, are at an increased risk for emotional and behavioral problems in
the future. They may not be able to express their feelings safely and as a result, may develop
difficulties regulating their emotions (Joyful Heart

The Great Storm Research Paper
The beautiful coastline of Galveston has such a peaceful presents unlike any other. It s hard to
believe that this serene place was once the epicenter of one of america s most devastating natural
disasters. To this day it is so infamous it needs no name only a title, The Great Storm.
Before the sky turned gray and the sea became wicked, business was booming for galveston.
Trade with Europe had capitalized the marketing world and with cotton at the center of it all.
The humidity from the gulf was just right for cotton to grow wonderfully. Back in the 1900s
they did not have the technology we have today. The only way we knew a storm was coming was
from ships that had gone through it and islands such as cuba reporting bad weather. A few days
before the storm made landfall ships had reported going through some rough weather conditions as
well as Cuba, Florida, and Louisiana had all reported storm related damage reports. One day before
the storm hit galveston the U.S Weather Bureau sent out a storm warning ranging from Pensacola,
Florida to Galveston, Texas. Very few people took this warning seriously because most
meteorologist thought the storm would make landfall elsewhere on the contrary to what Cuban
meteorologist were saying. This left 36,000 unevacuated people left ... Show more content on

Classic Car Investment Essay
In 2015 a 1978 Ferrari sold for more than $35.7 million(Sullivan). Whether you are a car
enthusiast or you just use cars to get back and forth from work this is an amazing number. A car
that sold for more than 20x its original MSRP. How does this happen? Classic car investing is
becoming the new stock market for the wealthy. Buying, storing, then selling cars for a profit
sounds like a simple system, but can you really make money investing in classic cars? Auctions are
now being televised and we see cars selling well over their original pricetag. Even with these prices
some of the sellers are winners and others, losers. There has to be a proper strategy for success or
the auctions would be pretty empty. I believe the strategy can be simplified... Show more content on

The same way we obtain the vehicles is the only way to get rid of them. An auction is risky, but
there is a lot of money flowing and it is almost guaranteed to sell if accepted. Craig Jackson
mentioned that to participate in the auction an entry fee is needed as well as a 8 10%
consignment fee of the final sale price(Hamer). This will eat into profits with ease. So turn to
selling it yourself. Here you can establish your own retail, but you must find buyers and bicker
over the final sale price. This can be stressful and lengthy, but profitable. Uncle Sam is the only

Dirt Movie Analysis
The movie dirt was very informative, and showed me a lot about dirt that I have never known. I
did not know that out of all of the known planets, Earth is the only one that has living and
breathing dirt. Because of how many different elements there are to Dirt, it may be more alive
than all of us. Dirt is the most important element. We need to protect and save Dirt because we
depend on it for life. Another interesting fact is that in just a handful of dirt, there can be billions of
microorganisms. We take the soilfor granted, because there is so much of it. I did not know that
soil alone has more life than any substance on any other planet in the solar system. Soil is
necessary to keep our biosphere health. A lof of the soil as created after

Mandatory Non Medical Funding For Children Entering Public...
Choosing to vaccinate or not vaccinate children has become a large topic of contention between
parents and medical personnel. Rates of non medical vaccine exemptions for children entering
public school continue to increase across the country. This increase has coincided with a
resurgence in outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases, or VPDs (Lynfield, 2014, p.1). There
are a variety of reasons why a family might apply for a non medical exemption and the validity of
these exemptions varies from state to state. Regardless of the justifiability of an exemption,
growing numbers of non vaccinated children entering school will increase the prevalence and
mortality from VPDs (Lynfield, 2014, p.2). The recommended vaccinations for children entering
kindergarten are 4 doses of diphtheria, tetanus toxoid, and acellular pertussis (DTaP), 2 doses of
the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, and 2 doses of the varicella vaccine. The
national Healthy People 2020 goal for kindergarten vaccinationrates is 95%. Although the majority
of states report vaccination rates at or near the goal, clusters of non vaccinated groups can develop
in some communities (Seither, 2014, p.1). Anthropological studies showed that the higher rates of
non vaccination correlated with outbreaks of diseases for which children typically receive vaccines.
In reaction to numerous outbreaks related to higher rates of non vaccinated children, California and
other states introduced legislation to make it more

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Xenotransplantation Animal experimentation is widely conducted for drug testing, medical training, education, as well as Research and Development (R D). Over 100 million animals are killed in the laboratories annually, and they are physically and psychologically traumatised by experimentation (PETA, 2017; Live Science, 2017). However, the reality is that majority of animal experiments are unreliable. Most of their sacrifices do not contribute to improving human health as the medical treatments developed in animals rarely translate to human benefits due to the differing complexities between experimental animals and humans (PETA, 2017; Live Science, 2017). Hence, we argue that the role of animal experimentation in medical research is questionable. 3D bioprinting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Xenotransplantation is the procedure involving the transplantation of living cells, tissues or organs from one species to another, particularly from animal to human (NHMRC, 2017). The most widely studied animal species for xenotransplantation are pigs. Animals are genetically engineered to produce human cells or substrates, which are used to incubate human organs (Vermeulen et al., 2017). However, the ethical implications of such applications are debatable. Since most of the animals involved in transplantation are genetically engineered (transgenic animals), xenotransplantation is viewed by many as an unnatural and inappropriate interference in nature (Manesh et al. 2014). Besides the deontological arguments, the consequences and complications of transplantation process lead to ethical issues. Before and after the transplantation procedure, the organ receiver must consume large doses of immunosuppressive drugs, which greatly affects their immune system. The lack of scientific evidence on the desired functions of transplanted organs on individual patients undermines the procedure s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sandstone Country Club Incident Essay On an extremely hot August night at Sandstone Country Club, an incident occurred between a server and a cook. Roberto, the server, was not receiving great tips and was having a tough night with his tables, due to the high capacity of people getting dinner and the heat making customers and other workers impatient. When Dr. Steele and his table sat at one of his tables, he knew he had to try his hardest to keep him happy because he was a generous tipper but very critical if the service is bad. Almost everything that could go wrong with Dr. Steele s order went wrong. First, he ordered a special that had already run out for the night. Dr. Steele was already angry and ordered lamb, which Roberto knew would take a long time. When Dr. Steele asked for a second time to check on their food because his group had tickets to a play, Roberto went to Steve, the cook, and told him to stop making the lamb and make whatever was fastest. Steve was already getting angry with Roberto for shouting orders at him and blaming the cooks for his rough night, but told him he could make him a pasta dish. When Roberto relayed this news to Dr. Steele, he was fed up and his group left the restaurant.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the issue with Roberto had been addressed earlier and the cooks had tried to calmly talk to him, some problems may have been avoided. The action of firing Roberto shows his staff that he cannot accept an attitude like that in the workplace and will almost scare people into mouthing off to other co workers when they are angry, which is good because they won t anger their co workers. Giving disciplinary action to Steve is also necessary to convey the message that violence in the workplace is not acceptable either and will ensure that the staff thinks before they act on their anger in the ... Scientist have even made adjustments to the axes to allow greater efficiency and conservation of resources so that the craft has a time extension for the mission. As an added bonus this craft will also benefit commercial and government manufactures of spacecraft and geostationary satellites, they will be cheaper to produce and give them new maneuvering capabilities. He uses flattery ( an hundred years should go to praise / thine eyes ), fear ( thy beauty shall no more be found ) and enthusiasm ( Let us roll all our strength, and all / Our sweetness, up into one ball ) to persuade her to give up her virginity. He is only concerned with moving his relationship on to the sexual stage and, apart from the pleasure this will bring, he has no thought of its consequences. The woman in The Beggar Woman at first seems anything but reluctant to have sex with the gentleman she meets, but in fact she has a different agenda. She has a baby strapped to her back and by exploiting the gentleman s lust ( I should be loth / to come so far and disoblige you both ) she is able to transfer it to him. I really enjoy books that take place in historical settings, like The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare and His Fair Assassin series by Robin LaFevers. This book was sort of a mix between the two. Set in 1814 London, we are introduced to Georgiana Fitzwilliam who is currently trapped in a carriage with her parents on their way to this infamous boarding school. There is so much mystery and danger throughout the book, it is so deceptively written than you don t realize things until it is far too late sort of like Georgie. I would recommend this to any fans of Grave Mercy and Clockwork Angel, or to anyone who enjoys spy novels and historical fiction. This book is much more than just a spy novel, at least in my opinion, but it seems a somewhat fitting classification. I would say this book is appropriate for ages thirteen and up, the proper decorum of the characters and situations eliminates a lot of adult content which makes it appropriate for younger readers. • 11. An Introduction To Private Health Insurance INTRO Private health Insurance is a $1.42 billion (before tax) industry in Australia (Seah, 2012) and has played a prominent role in the country s health system for over 60 years. As of 2009, 51per cent of the Australian population was covered by some form of private health insurance. Private health insurance is a regulated industry; this means it is controlled by government legislation under the Private Health Insurance Act (2007). Private health insurers are required to register under this Act, and the policies they sell must adhere to these regulations (Shamsullah, 2011). Due to the size and regulation of the industry managers in the sector may face many complex challenges. Complex management has been around for thousands of years. Basic management tools that were used in the past have formed the foundations of the theories that have shaped today s management practices. One of the major challenges in today s organisational environments is the interconnectedness of all management aspects. It can be difficult for leaders to identify the exact problem, the cause of the problem and what relevant information (within the available abundance) is relevant and could be used to address problems (Maznevski, 2007). This study aims to analyse the issues and problems faced by HealthCo and provide potential solutions and recommendations to enhance management and business success. By using a combination of sampling methods it will allow the research to be more realistic and not skewed. The researcher will apply a non probability purposive method and using the Heterogeneous sampling technique while analyzing the phenomenon at InterChem Limited as well as a probability technique of a cluster to ascertain the influence of strategic innovation in the SME sector. 3.7.2 Sample Size The researcher will be using a census as a result of the population size to ascertain the influence of strategic innovation on Interchem. According to the central limit theorem which states that if the minimum number with the sample is 50 or less then a census should be conducted. This is the most appropriate technique to use due to the size of the population. The population at InterChem limited is below 30 and they will be developed as the sample frame. The nature of this research is a case study of Interchem Limited and how strategic innovation can influences it as an SME. 3.8 Data Analysis Technique 3.8.1 Data analysis plan. I dubiously choose a kiddie pool to draw inspiration from, and unexpectedly, inspiration flows into me. As I sit here in this little 10x30 foot backyard, the sky is filled with the flowing gaseous form of water, dark patches of moist earth speckle the yard, the plants soak up their scattered watering, and the leaves of bushes and trees imbue the space with a sense of dampness from their foliage. Of all the ways Eiseley imparts his impressions of water and the manner its magic impregnates the world, the one not mentioned is the most intriguing to me. The way he was moved to write about water because of its relationship to his past, is waters definitive magic. The concept of water was the vehicle that transported his feelings to thoughts, and from thoughts to his narrative. He found enchantment where others would have just found a mundane substance. He even writes, ...the enormous mindlessness of space settles down upon the soul. There are others that would contend that there is more magic in the cosmos than in water, but there is a resonance that is stirred in Eiseley, by water s magic. When I sit and think about water, these are some sentiments that stream from me: water, an oasis of cool relief for my throat, when sand dunes and wandering Bedouin nomads migrate on the desert of my tongue; the last days of elementary school when the tease of a late spring swim hints at the summer to come, and the time spent slipping the bonds of my corporeal existence, floating in that ethereal substance; of the cool shade of broad leafed trees drawing water up to their verdant canopy to their aquatic reservoir, sharing a respite from the unforgiving heat of an afternoon sun. Some mysteries are solvable, and some we can only create solutions for in both well made and sloppily built theories. The hostility fell away when it was realized that White had brought along not only male colonists, but women and children, including his daughter Eleanor Dare and her husband, Annaise Dare. Her child, Virginia Dare, was the first english child born in the americas ( history.com ). With their relations greatly improving with local natives, it seemed as though the english colony of Roanoke was faring much better than its predecessors. Unfortunately, not unlike the previous colonies, they began to suffer from a severe lack of resources. In the year 1587, John White left Roanoke and sailed back to england in hopes of returning with more supplies. His departure, however, occurred during a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They have been tour and doing shows for twenty five plus year and still jamming as we speak. This band has been through just about everything you could think of and surprisingly they are still together after drug over dose, care accident, and divorcees. First of all Def. Leppard should get this award because they have very good musical and are a pretty sweet bad. The other reasons I think they should get this award is because they have a lot of achievements. The first achievement that I liked was they were on the Bill Board 200 with their song Hysteria , sold 10,000 in the first week of it being out, and also with the song Hysteria spent six weeks at number one and 133 weeks on the Bill Board 200. (Caulfield 57) There next achievement was that there was a big accident and there main drummer lost his arm. So he was back to playing the drums. That s when they made the big hit Hysteria in 1983 whit there album Pyromania after the car accident. (Tamenbaum 16). There next big achievement was that Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell had there amazing guitar abilities over looked. (Hammond 16 20). The next achievement I believe is very good because Def. Sir Robert Peel s Nine Principles Of the nine principles Sir Robert Peel implemented to guide police in the late 1829s, I would state that all nine are being used to an extent, however, each department in the United States are different. Below are each principle (numbered) followed by my assessment of the principles in today s law enforcement. 1. The basic mission for which the police exist is to prevent crime and disorder. This principle is the still basis for every police department, in today s law enforcement there is a lot more police service being provided such as; investigations, SWAT Teams, Traffic, and numerous others to include numerous sub departments of those. 2. I would say that law enforcement does not follow this principle. In today s society, it would be very difficult to maintain this relationship. When the police are involved in a shooting, the public says the police always used to much force. If it is a black person, it is police brutality and they are racist. It has nothing to do with the details of the incident or that they happen to be a criminal. That means that there is something about john that is not very normal. A sign at the side of the road said: WELCOME TO OTTER LAKE, HOME OF THE ANISHIWABE PEOPLE. I think that this quote is important because the black crow is very symbolic and it is sitting on top of the Otter Lake sign which means something big is going to happen there. When John sees the crow and imitates it, not like a human, but it sounded exactly like an authentic crow call. The rider lifted his helmet an inch or so until only its mouth was visible. And from that mouth came a loud caw. Not a human imitating a crow, but what seemed to the crow as an authentic crow caw. When john approaches the crow sitting on otter lake sign and looks up at it and caws but not like somebody imitating, but like a real crow, that is very important. Its important because the crow symbolizes something big is abou to happen and also John cawing like a real crows tells us that there is some things about him that is not quite normal. • 20. Discoveries In William Shakespeare s The Tempest Discoveries are an intricate concept, which are influenced by many interconnected elements showing the significance of an individual s experience of confronting and provocative discoveries to affirm or challenge assumptions and beliefs about aspects of human experience. Through physical and mental exploration, the ability to recognise the importance of discoveries is the underlying factor that determines the individual s ability to positively or negatively transform and come to a new perspective of themselves and those around them. This notion is indicative in William Shakespeares 1611 tragicomedy The Tempest, Siegfried Sassoons 1918 collection of war poetry Counter Attack and Other Poems and Caravaggio s 1602 painting The Incredulity of Saint Thomas. All three demonstrate the experience of confronting and provocative discoveries that involve the potential to affirm or challenge assumptions and beliefs about aspects of human experience, and the ultimate implications of these discoveries on the characters. Shakespeare s The Tempest reveals the underlying importance of confronting and provocative elements in the process of discovery and the role it plays in an individual s ability to transform. Whether you see it in another child or experienced it yourself, everyone at some point has come across a kid who is figuring out their way in this world. Many kids are curious and adventurous and these tactics are usually motivated from within. The constant push to have more adultbehaviors is usually self started, beginning with the child wanting to be treated more like an adult. In the stories Through the Tunnel , The Passage and The Intruder , all of the children push themselves into being adults instead of being pressured by others. Instead, they have all of the pressure on their own shoulders. Therefore, in the following stories, the author utilizes key symbols to exaggerate a young child s own motivational push into adulthood. In the story Through the tunnel, the author displays the tunnel as a symbol that represents a child s constant need to feel mature and to fit in with the older kids. Jerry, the young boywantedso desperately to be treated older than he was, so he persuaded his mother to allow him to swim by the older boys. He exclaimed To be with them, of them, was a craving that filled his whole body (Lessing 2). This shows a glance of Jerry s desire to be one of the others that he looked up to. The tunnel is literally the way of hardship he must pass through. The feeling that he first holds against the tunnel is fear. While the boy who he encounters at the bay is passing through this tunnel, Jerry, after waiting for the sleek brown head to appear, let out a yell of warning (Lessing 2) because he is afraid of the boy being drowned. Also, when he finds the entrance to the tunnel, somethings soft and clammy touched his mouth, he saw a dark frond moving against the greyish rock, and panic filled him (Lessing 4). He has a fear against the tunnel and the fear implies how difficult his rite of passage to become an adolescent is for him. In addition, the length of the tunnel represents the scale of the trial that he must pass, and going through the tunnel without air indicates that he cannot go back, and must move forward. Third, he accomplishes his purpose and returns to his former place. Although he is prepared for death at one time, he finally succeeds in passing through the tunnel. After overcoming the challenge, he soon returns to the villa where his mother waits for him. He has striven for one goal, so he has no more to do anything now: It was no longer of the least importance to go to the bay (Lessing 6). Synthetic Proteins And Cellular Components Essay Now with the GFP in the lysate solution with other soluble proteins and cellular components, we need a strong and specific process that targets only the GFP and not the other parts of the mixture. This strong and specific process used is called affinity chromatography, in which one substance can be purified by using its specific interaction with another substance. In this case, GFP has six histidines at its N terminus which can easily bond to Ni2+and this interaction can be used to purify the GFP from the lysate by using a Ni NTA column. This Ni NTA column allows for solutions to follow through except components that can easily bond to the immobilized Ni2+ ion in the column s silica matrix. Before we could use the Ni NTA column, we had to equilibrate it by adding some binding buffer to the column that washes and prepares the column and then centrifuge. After the column is ready for use, the bacterial lysate can be added to the column, with some left for later analysis. The column is then centrifuged in order for the mixture to flow through the matrix and separate those components that can bind to Ni2+ (not necessarily only GFP) and those that simply flowed through. The liquid from the collection tube is collected and transferred into a tube and labeled F for flow through (Figure 1, lane F). At this point the GFP is bound to Ni2+ in the matrix of the Ni NTA column, however it is not alone. Many other proteins and cellular components may have bound to the column as well due ... It infects humans only as a result of its ability to escape the host immune system, and avoid any further activation (Koplow 2003). The virus is a two stranded DNA virus. There exist two forms of the variola virus namely the variola major and variola minor. Variola major is the one that is lethal, while variola minor is not lethal but a mere strain. The most common strain is the variola major, which produces the more severe symptoms and with a higher fatality rate of 20% to 40%, within a week of infection (Koplow 2003). Key features of the life cycle(s) The initial step is whereby the virus attaches to the host cell and infects an individual. It normally enters through the respiratory system. It attaches to the mouth, trachea or lung mucosa. The cells forming the mucous membrane are loosely packed hence permitting penetration and movement into the saliva. Once the virus reaches the cell membrane, it penetrates through endocytosis. In the host cell, the main protein in released (Koplow 2003). The virus replicates in the cytoplasm of the host cell. DNA replication and transcription may start immediately as the virus itself contains enzymes for replication and transcription. It does not rely on the host cell enzymes to begin replication (Koplow 2003). First, the DNA and RNA polymerase are made, along with other transcription ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the migration phenomenon is not a new one but can be traced as far back as human history itself. In some way, migration can be seen as an innate part of animal behavior and the human experience. Historically, several push and pull factors have forced several groups to move across the globe in the hopes of improving their situations. However, the circumstances surrounding one s migration to a new place differs for each individual. Apart from the political and economic strife of migration to a different country, immigrants and refugees are left with the added struggle of maintaining their social identity, culture, and kinship when acclimating to a new environment. In order to properly explain this topic, I draw on the information from several articles, lectures, films, and interviews I have conducted with close family and friends. A common problem faced by immigrants is social identity. Social identity refers to the need to identify as a member of a group and not merely as an individual. Man is a social being and being able to identify with a group helps in giving a sense of belonging, developing self esteem and a sense of pride. Dickens makes the ghost of Christmas past seem peaceful and affectionate by his description. By saying, sparkling eye and its open hand These phrases show the spirit is kind and loving. Another method Dickens uses to get across his point of view is contrast. One of the best times he uses contrast is when scrooge is taken to Fezziwig s ball by the first spirit that visits him. The atmosphere in both the work places is totally different, Fezziwig is merry and wants he employees to have a good time as it is Christmas. He does not mind that he is paying them even though they are having a day off. On the other hand, Scrooge seems annoyed and even a little bit jealous that he has got to pay Bob Cratchit for a day free form work. Scrooge says, you ll want all day off tomorrow, I suppose? According to the US Census Bureau, in September 2013, there were 48,000,000 Americans with no health insuranceand since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) estimates range anywhere from three to six million people that have signed up for healthcare under the new law (Walt, Proctor, and Smith). Project Part 3 Thank you for providing the Land use Development/Intergovernmental Review/Community and Regional Planning (LD/IGR) the opportunity to review and comment on the Draft Project Report on Interstate Route 10 (I 10). The purpose of the Project is to improve traffic operations on the I 10 freeway in San Bernardino County to reduce congestion, increase throughput, and enhance trip reliability for the planning design year of 2045. We offer the following recommendations and comments on the Draft Project Report: 1.Reliability in transportation is a major strategy in the California Department of Transportation s (Department) Strategic Management Plan where it is described as consistent travel time. The Halo Effect is a type of cognitive bias in which our overall impression of a person influences how we feel and think about his or her character. The experiment consisted of two groups of women seeing two different sides of the same guy. The team will then investigate how easily we deceive ourselves. Mr. X AKA Dan provided two videos, one happy and upbeat and the other negative and downbeat. They found that both of the groups agreed on how good or bad the professors were. Another question was brought to the table; is we re not consciously and rationally judging people, what causes us to initially like or dislike them? Daniel Kahneman a Nobel Prize winning author and psychologist believes the answer lies in the mental shortcuts we use to help us make decisions. An idea, based off a book called What You See Is All There Is, is that when the mindmakes a decision it deals only in known knowns and largely ignores facts about that might make decisions more complex. For example, when we meet someone that we know very little about, we decide that we all know is what is true and ignore the new facts. Use of Force Continuum Essay A use of force continuum is a standard that affords law enforcement officials security officers (police, probation, or corrections) with guidelines as to how much use of force may be used against a repelling subject in a given situation. In certain ways it is similar to the military s escalation of force. The reason of these models is to clarify, both for officers and citizens, the complex subject of use of force by law officers. They are often vital parts of law enforcement agencies use of force policies. Although various agencies have developed different models of the continuum, there is no universal standard model (Stetser, 2001, p. 36) The initial examples of use of force continuum were developed in the 1980s and early ... How Whistleblowing Is A Major Issue For Private Organizations Kyler Wilson December 6, 2016 Professional Ethics Final Paper Whistleblowing can be a major issue for private organizations who may bend or break the rules to get an upper hand in the business world. This can be a key threat to both every day employees as well as middle and upper management level positions. The two articles being looked at for this argument are both one that supports whistleblowing in the workplace as well as another article that argues against whistleblowing. The article supporting whistleblowing is titled Why are there so few whistleblowers? Blame evolution, and is written by Paul Rauwolf and Dominic Mitchell, who have both earned their PhD s from the University of Bath. The article was published in the Washington Post. The theory that most supports this article are the ideas of Kant. The title of the article against whistleblowing is titled Why Are Some Whistleblowers Vilified and Others Celebrated? The article is written by David M. Mayer, he is a writer for the Harvard Business Review. This article was published by the Harvard Business Review. The theory supporting this article is utilitarianism, this can be seen through the importance of doing what is best for everyone involved, not just yourself. The third theory that can be argued is the idea of W.D. Ross and his prima facia duties. • 44. Animal Slaughterhouses Should Be Illegal Animal slaughterhouses should be illegal Each year, 56 billion farmed animals are killed by humans worldwide for food. 3,000 of these deaths happen every second and come from the animal slaughterhouses. They are legal in countries all over the world despite the brutal killing that goes on inside of them. If slaughterhouses had glass doors, would we consider changing the laws around how they are used? Assuming that it is essential for animals to be killed, they deserve to die painlessly in their natural habitat. Confining and killing an animal in an environment which is not their natural habitat is wrong. We are the only ones that have the choice to decide whether we hold animals captive in a building to slaughter them or kill them while living in their natural habitat. To hold an animal captive is unfair. It makes them frustrated and scared since it is only lengthening the time that it is taking for them to be slaughtered to their deaths. If we were to ban these inhumane slaughter houses, it would make a massive difference as to how quick and more peaceful the deaths of animals would be considering the disturbing methods animals are currently undertaking in slaughterhouses. ... • 45. The International Labour Organization and Its Attempt to... Introduction This essay will look at the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and its attempts to alleviate child labour up until now. Firstly, a definition of child labour will be provided after which an introductory overview will be given about the ILO s activities against child labour. Thereafter, a critical assessment will be provided regarding the ILO s steps against child labour, and some major problems will be highlighted regarding the ILO s approach to eliminate child labour. Defining Child Labour Mowing the lawn, washing the car and dishes, or cleaning the kitchen are the types of tasks that most children dislike to do. However, tasks such as these are not defined as child labour. Generally speaking, child labour is defined as something along the lines of: Labour that exploits children and restricts their mental and physical development , and thus household chores, in most cases, cannot be considered to be a form of child labour. However, labour that is not appropriate for children, such as working with dangerous machinery, mining, or work that exposes children to sexual abuse, can be defined as child labour. This is due to the fact that, in situations like the ones described, children are exposed to exploitation and to circumstances that are detrimental to their physical and mental health. That being said, labour in itself is not considered to be necessarily a bad thing for children, since it can provide them with many learning opportunities. For example, ... • 46. Child Abuse Is A Social Problem Essay Child abuse is a social problem that continuously produces a wave of concern. The State of New Jersey Department of Children and Families explains that Abuse is the physical, sexual or emotional harm or risk of harm to another child under the age of 18 caused by a parent or other person who acts as a caregiver for the child (2016). The harsh reality of child abuseand its consequences is recognized throughout this essay. The cost of child abuse can be understood through direct and indirect costs. Direct costs describe those of the child welfare system, judicial and law enforcement, health and mental health systems (New Jersey Child Assault Prevention, 2015). Comparatively, indirect costs apply to much more long term problems/a turn of events the child victim and their abuser(s) may have. These costs involve the effects abuse has or may have in regards to education, mental health, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, welfare dependency, domestic violence, homelessness, juvenile delinquency and adult criminality (New Jersey Child Assault Prevention, 2015). It costs a substantial amount of money to deal with child abuse. Moving away from these consequences, it is arguable that children exposed to violence or abuse, if left unaddressed or ignored, are at an increased risk for emotional and behavioral problems in the future. They may not be able to express their feelings safely and as a result, may develop difficulties regulating their emotions (Joyful Heart ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 50. Mandatory Non Medical Funding For Children Entering Public... Choosing to vaccinate or not vaccinate children has become a large topic of contention between parents and medical personnel. Rates of non medical vaccine exemptions for children entering public school continue to increase across the country. This increase has coincided with a resurgence in outbreaks of vaccine preventable diseases, or VPDs (Lynfield, 2014, p.1). There are a variety of reasons why a family might apply for a non medical exemption and the validity of these exemptions varies from state to state. Regardless of the justifiability of an exemption, growing numbers of non vaccinated children entering school will increase the prevalence and mortality from VPDs (Lynfield, 2014, p.2). The recommended vaccinations for children entering kindergarten are 4 doses of diphtheria, tetanus toxoid, and acellular pertussis (DTaP), 2 doses of the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, and 2 doses of the varicella vaccine. The national Healthy People 2020 goal for kindergarten vaccinationrates is 95%. Although the majority of states report vaccination rates at or near the goal, clusters of non vaccinated groups can develop in some communities (Seither, 2014, p.1).
