The Importance Of Self-Assessment In Mathematics
The results of this study have important implications for teachers. They suggest the need for
mathematics teachers to provide middle school students with relevant self assessment skills effective
for mathematics learning. The results also suggest that both low and average achievers can benefit
from the self assessment instruction and as such both achievers can explore the skills in self
assessment to enhance their mathematics achievement. Teachers of mathematics should therefore be
equipped with self assessment approach in teaching low and average mathematics achieving students.
This will help the students who have difficulties in some areas of mathematics to acquire the necessary
skills needed for successful learning of mathematics. Although self assessment increased mathematics
achievement of low and average mathematics achievers, self assessment had no effect on mathematics
achievement of high achievers. This result indicates the need for more evidence on the effect of self
assessment on mathematics achievement of high achievers and conditions lead to positive effects.
Second, the present research confirms that students subsequent learning goals to correct
misunderstandings and to extend learning is important to students success in math. This suggest that
mathematics teachers need to give students frequent opportunities to set personal goals based on their
difficulties. However, it is not enough that the teacher asks students to set goals, but there should be a

The Triumph of Les Misérables Essays
The Triumph of Les Misérables
Les Misérables (1862), a novel set in early nineteenth century France, presents a story of obsessions in
honor, love, and duty, and through it redemption and salvation. It is the story of the poor Jean Valjean,
condemned to an unfair amount of time in prison and a life on the run for stealing a loaf of bread for
his starving family. The kind act of forgiveness from a Bishop with whom Jean Valjean stays one
night, changes the course in which he chooses to live his life. Under a different identity, he becomes
wealthy from a business he starts and later is elected mayor of the small town of Montreuil. He falls
madly in love with Fantine, one of the workers in his factory. Because Fantine, one of the very ...

Even though the character s fate is leading them to lives of misery, their obsession to have a perfectly
complete and happy life in their eyes is prevailing. In Victor Hugo s novel Les Misérables he uses the
character s obsession to portray the hardships people are willing to endure to obtain what they truly
desire in their lives.
Jean Valjean, the main character of the book, has two obsessions throughout the novel; living by the
Bishop s word (becoming a man of God s will,) and protecting and raising Cosette away from the evils
of the world. In the beginning of the story, Jean Valjean can not find anyone to take him in for the
night. Because he is a convict, marked by a yellow passport, the Bishop s home is the only door open
to him. A convict may leave the galleys behind, but not his condemnation (26). Despite the Bishop s
kindness, during the night Jean Valjean steals all of the silver from the house and flees the town. Not
far from the Bishop s house, Jean Valjean is captured and returned to the Bishop, who tells the police
he gave the silver to the convict. Once the police excuse themselves, the Bishop says, Jean Valjean,
never forget that you have promised me to use this silver to become an honest man . . . . You belong
no longer to evil, but to good. It is your soul that I am buying for you. I give it to God! (33). From that
moment on, Jean Valjean dedicates his life to helping the misfortunate and vows to never again

Stanley Milgram s In The Perils Of Obedience
According to the Oxford dictionary Obedience is defined as a compliance with an order, request, or
law or submission to another s authority. In many situations authority demonstrates the ability to
control man to go against their beliefs in what is morally right. Due to fear and the insecurities of man,
authority may push the limits of society to a point where the individual may temporarily give up their
identity. This is proven by The Stanford Prison experiment The combination of realism and symbolism
in this experiment had fused to create a vivid illusion of imprisonment. The illusion merged
inextricably with reality for at least some of the time for every individual in the situation. It was
remarkable how readily we all slipped into our roles, temporarily gave up our identities, and allowed
these assigned roles and social forces in the situation to guide, shape, and eventually ... Show more

Each time the question asked was answered incorrectly the voltage of shock would be increased. The
student had been an actor hired to react to each shock, as the shock was to increase so did their
reactions to appeal to the teacher s empathy. When the teachers had reached a dangerous high voltage
and continued to do so it demonstrated a form of blind authority. Blind authority is obeying the law
only because it is a law, convinced your actions are okay because one is obeying orders of an authority
greater than man. It is apparent that this is blind authority due to the teachers questioning if they
should continue the experiment and demonstrating feeling guilt or discomfort in their task given.
Although the teachers may have felt their task given was wrong they continued to do so because a
figure of authority assured them it was okay, they were following the rules

Date Rape Essay
Rape defined is forcing sexual intercourse upon someone without his or her consent. This isn t just a
girls problem, boys have to deal with this too. According to the American Psychological Association,
nearly one in ten girls and one in twenty boys say they have been raped or experienced some form of
sexual assault (Atlanta Journal, 1). Almost more than half of rape victims know their attacker; they
don t report it or tell anybody. In most date rape cases, the attacker and victim have known each other
for at least a year or even longer. Only about 10 percent of rapes are reported, less than that go to
court. According to data taken by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, one forcible rape is reported to
the police every six minutes, on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When you ve had one, you call for two, and then you don t care what you do (Ade, 12). Date rape is a
growing problem in the community but by educating people on drugs used for rape, the effects, and
treatment will help make the dating world a safer place.
There are three main drugs used in date rape, which include Rohypnol, Gamma Hydroxybutyerate,
and Ketamine. Rohypnol is a sedative with ten times the potency of Valium. They come in pill form,
which is white and round. Anybody could buy this drug on the street for fewer than five dollars. The
effects of this drug include drowsiness, dizziness, slurred speech, amnesia, muscle relaxation, loss of
control, and gastrointestinal disturbances that can last up to twelve or more hours. Street names for
this drug include Roofies, which is most commonly used, Rib, Roach 2, Roopies, Rope, R 2, Circles,
La Roche, or Mexican Valium. This drug leaves the body without a trace after so many hours after
ingesting it. Another drug used for date rape is Gamma Hydroxybutyerate. This drug is a central
nervous depressant that is a clear liquid with a metallic smell. It can also come in a white powder. This
drug can be sold for five dollars just for one capful. The effects of this drug has many of the same
effects as alcohol such as nausea, headache, vomiting, drowsiness, slurred speech, dizziness, reduced
breathing and heart rate, and involuntary muscle spasms. GHB completely

Kvothe In Patrick Rothfuss s The Name Of The Wind
The lifestyle of a troupe of traveling performers, the meticulous science behind arcane magic, and the
truth of the evil entities known as Chandrian. All of these subjects are touched upon within Patrick
Rothfuss s The Name of the Wind, the first book of a three part fantasy series telling the tale of
Kvothe, a man of brilliance, bravery, beauty, and most of all, bad luck (Alliteration). So far within the
novel, Kvothe (who now goes as Kote) is regaling his legacy to Chronicler for history s sake,
describing the death of his parents at the hands of demons, his punitive years in the alleyways of
Tarbean, and his budding enrollment to the University. Although I have yet to finish the book, I am
able to evaluate the character of Kvothe, connect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One prediction is that Kvothe will meet Denna again: some people say there was a woman , says
Chronicler to Kvothe (Rothfuss 49). Kvothe responds by abruptly (and angrily) cutting him off. As the
beginning of the book actually occurs in the future of most of the story, this comment inclines there is
a woman that drastically affects Kvothe. The reason I believe that woman to be Denna is that she is
the only female so far in the book that Kvothe has shown an interest to. Entire pages were spent
describing how benevolent she is, of her goodness and grace. It would be odd if those descriptions
were meaningless and Kvothe and she were never to meet again. Another prediction is that Master
Hemme will be the one who gets Kvothe kicked out of the University. He is an insidious and spiteful
man, attempting to humiliate Kvothe in front of his class and, when this backfired, trying to expel
Kvothe for not simply rolling over and accepting his fate of being inferior. Master Hemme may not be
well liked in the school, but he does hold a substantial amount of sway within the University. It is
already made clear that Kvothe is expelled from the school at the young age, and because of his
adversity to Hemme, the Master is most likely to

Tycho Brahe Essay
Tycho Brahe is remembered for many things: his golden nose, his ignominious death, and his famous
last words. All of these things have gone down in history. However, Tycho Brahe was well known in
his time as a respected and well paid astronomer. His observations were second to none. He was
unsatisfiable and meticulous in his profession, building two of the finest observatories of his time, the
second because the first was not up to his own high standards. He is still regarded as one of the best
naked eye observationalists of all time (Burke Gaffney, 153).
Tycho was born in 1546 to Otto Brahe and Beate Bille, along with a twin brother who died before
baptism. He was born at his father s estate in Knutsorp in Scania, which was then a ... Show more

Indeed, he wears a prosthetic in all of his most famous portraits. (Remmert, 25) .
Tycho began to gain fame as an astronomer after reporting on a new star in 1572. Tycho saw a very
bright star in Cassiopeia on November 11th, 1572. He fixed its position with regards to the other stars
in the constellation, and continued to observe it. It began to fade in brightness early the next year, and
was only as bright as Polaris within six months. He also reported on the color changes, from brilliant
white to yellow to red and back to red within that same six months (Hall 274). These careful
observations helped springboard his career as an astronomer, and he published his findings on De
Nova Stella or the New Star in 1574.
His publication also tried to shed light on the astrological implications of this star. Tycho predicted
strong cosmic influences in Scandinavia and a new order in Europe. He also implied that he knew how
to better understand astrology, but made no attempts to either explain this better astrology in writing or
to give any sort of temporal indication for his new order. (Christianson, Comet 118 ).
His prominent station in Danish society left him in an awkward situation. He wanted nothing more
than to continue his studies of the heavens, but it was unheard of for a man of his status. He therefore
spent some time giving lectures at the University of Copenhagen. His talks centered on the history of
Astronomy, including that of

Tragic Characters from Antigone
Tragic Characters from Antigone
The story of Antigone begins with the death of Oedipus. His sons Polyneices and Eteocles battled
against each other for control of the city Thebes, which resulted in the death of both of them. Creon,
brother of Iocasta and uncle of Oedipus, becomes the king. He declared an honorable burial for
Eteocles, who fought for Thebes, and no burial for Polyneices since he fought against Thebes.
Antigone tells Ismene, her sister of Polyneices s fate, and that he deserves to be buried regardless if
Ismene joins her. Antigone does bury her brother, going against her sister s warning about Creon
killing whoever touches Polyneices body. A Sentry tells Creon hat someone has done some burial
cremations Polyneices, and Creon tells him to find the person who is responsible. A Sentry sees
Antigone spreading dust over Polyneices s body, allowing his body to take its place in Hades, and
brings her to Creon. When Ismene found out Antigone was caught by Creon, she asks to share in
Antigone s guilt, but Antigone doesn t allow her. Creon s son Haimon tries to reason with his father
saying he should be fair and restraint. Creon ignores his son and sends Antigone to the tomb. Teiresias,
a blind prophet, also tries to warn Creon of the god s anger towards him and that an unpleasant fate
will happen. Again Creon ignores the warning and insults Teiresias. When Teiresias left, Creon tried to
think of a time when he was wrong and he couldn t. So Creon decided he would

During the Growth Stage, a company aims to develop brand recognition and increase their customer
base. The quality of the product is often improved and technical support is usually enhanced. Pricing
remains generally stable as demand continues with minimal competition. During the Maturity Stage,
the company has successfully established product and the aim for the manufacturer is now to maintain
the market share they have built up. This is probably the most competitive time as KFC, now, has to
take into consideration of Porter s five forces analysis. For instance, other fast food oligopoly such as
McDonald s, Subway, Burger King and so on might come out with similar product of relatively
cheaper price as substitute. Moreover, small businesses are able to enter to the market because of
reasonable production costs. A successful strategy needs to be based on assets and competencies

David A.Aaker Strategic Market Management. The firm should invest to regain a dominant position

A Short Note On Thyroid And Parathyroid Glands
1
Stacey Raposa October 11,2014
Module IV Assignment
Thyroid and Parathyroid Glands
Thyroid
The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland with two lobes, one on each side of the trachea, below the level
of the larynx. These lobes are connected by a narrow piece of tissue called the isthmus (Johnstone,
Farley, Hendry, McLafferty, 2014). The thyroid consists of follicles, which contain follicular cells that
synthesize and secrete the thyroid hormones. These hormones are tetra iodothyronine or thyroxine
(T4), tri iodothyronine (T3) and calcitonin. The main function of the thyroid gland is to control the
body s metabolic rate; however in children it also controls growth and development (Warren, 2014).
The thyroid gland is controlled by thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), which is secreted by the
pituitary gland (Warren, 2014). These hormones are produced by an endocrine feedback loop that
allows the body to control their release according to need (Hall, 2010). The hypothalamus, which
synthesizes and secretes Thyrotrophin releasing hormone (TRH), initiates this loop (Hall, 2010).
These hormones can be measured in the blood and are important in diagnosing and managing thyroid
disease. Thyroid disease is seen in three forms: under activity (hypothyroidism), over activity
(hyperthyroidism) and swelling of the thyroid. Thyroid disease is one of the most common disorders
of the endocrine system and is more common in women than men.

Hester Street American Dream Essay
Throughout U.S. history, immigrants have struggled to find a balance between the adoption of
American culture and the preservation of their native cultures. While many immigrants near the turn
of the 20th century desired full assimilation into American culture, like Jake from Joan Micklin Silver
s 1975 film Hester Street, many immigrants today maintain strong ties to their home countries and
native cultures. But, considering the recent increase in political and social discussion surrounding the
topic of immigration, the struggle to balance American and native customs has intensified for many
immigrants. While some tightly cling to their ethnic identities as a reminder of their roots, others fear
xenophobic sentiments or simply desire a new culture, more quickly adopting an Americanized
lifestyle. Whether open to assimilation or not, many immigrants, like Jake, hope to attain the
American Dream . A vision shared by millions of Americans, both immigrants and native born, the
American Dream represents the ability to work hard and achieve success for oneself, regardless of
status, wealth, race, or creed. This search for success in America has happened for hundreds of years,
and is literally the reason the nation was established. Overall, there are countless ways for immigrants
to find a balance in adopting American culture and achieving the American Dream, topics not only
heavily dealt with in Hester Street, but also relevant to the immigrants of today.

Death Penalty Sociology
When discussing the death penalty, rarely do we acknowledge the impact executions have on the men
and women who facilitate the process. Although this process is solely voluntary, the side effects are
not. According to several executioners, the first experience is far from what they had anticipated. To
bring to light the stories of these men and women, Jim Willet facilitates an audio recording which
covers the process of executing an inmate and the aftermath which is often felt by the executioner.
After the Governor and Attorney General provide the okay, the inmate is escorted to the death
chamber where they are strapped to the gurney in roughly 30 seconds. Often the inmate will thank the
tie down team, which has been said to leave the executioner with a weird feeling. Some inmates are

Abstract
After the World War II, federalism exerted a significant impact on the European integration progress.
One of the most significant federalists, Altiero Spinelli, has given strongly impacts on the processing
of European integration after the World War II. In his idea, the federalism is a theory for political
integration, which advocates integration by drawing up a federal constitution to build a supranational
framework and in order to keep national or regional peace and stability. This Article shows Altiero
Spinelli as a significant federalist pushing the European to be a unity and his major contributes in the
process of European Union integration and where it was successful, when it faded during the few

Put simply, the Federalism is a theory for political integration, which balances the authority between

Terrain and weather played a huge effect in decision making and the outcome of the battle. As the
allied forces were advancing towards the Germans their defensive lines and supply lines were going
thin. Generals of the allied did not expect the Ardennes forest would be the area that the Germans
attack. They thought that it would be very difficult for the Germans to get their tanks and artillery
through the forest. So they would find a better area to utilize their tanks. While later Patton would use

Traditional Gender Roles In The Hours And Virginia Woolf s...
The comparative study of texts and their appropriations reflect the context and values of their times,
demonstrating how context plays a significant role. Virginia Woolf s novel modernists Mrs Dalloway
(1925) and Steven Daldry s post modernists film The Hours (2002), an extrapolation, explore the rapid
change of social and philosophical paradigms of the 20th century, focusing on women whose rich
inner lives are juxtaposed with their outer lives. They place the characters in their respective context,
to respond to, the horrors of the consequences of war and AIDS and the vagaries and difficulties of
relationships, sexuality and mental illness. Through their differing intertextual perspectives the film
and novel represent similar values, within different contextual concerns.
In the novel Mrs Dalloway, Woolf conveys her perspective, as she finely examines and critiques the
traditional gender roles of women in a changing post war society. Woolf characterisation of Clarissa
Dalloway in a non linear structure, presents a critical portrayal of the existing class structure through
modernist s eyes. Titling her novel as Mrs Dalloway presents Clarissa s marriage as a central focus of
her life, drawing attention to how a women s identity is defined by marriage. Despite the changing
role of women throughout the 1920s, for married women life was the same post war. Clarissa
experiences the oddest sense of being herself invisible...that is being Mrs Dalloway...this being

Radiation Threats Of Astronauts On A Long Journey Through...

Radiation Threats to Astronauts on a Long Journey through Space Astronauts travelling to Mars or
another distant area of interest would face numerous challenges throughout their journey, one of which
is being exposed to radiation from space. There are two types of radiation: ionizing radiation and non
ionizing radiation. [1] Non ionizing radiation is radiation that cannot cause electrons to become
detached from the atom, like visible light and radio waves. [1] This type of radiation is not dangerous
for astronauts and is commonly found on Earth. Ionizing radiation, on the other hand, has enough
energy to remove electrons from their orbits around an atom, causing a charged particle. [1] ... Show

[1] This type of radiation would be dangerous for astronauts, and it would need to be shielded against
for long distance space travel to be viable. SPE are the ejection of very energetic protons, alpha
particles and heavier particles into space; these include solar flares and coronal mass ejections. [1]
Under normal conditions, astronauts would not be concerned about this, but occasionally, very large
SPEs occur that can produce radiation with energy levels high enough to be lethal in a very short
period of time. In fact, between Apollo missions 16 and 17, one of the largest SPEs ever recorded
occurred, and it produced radiation with energy levels that would be lethal to astronauts outside the
atmosphere in under 10 hours. [1] The health risks of radiation exposure can be described as either
acute or chronic. Acute exposure is short term and the severity of symptoms ranges from nausea to
central nervous system damage and even to death in large doses. [2] Chronic exposure is usually less
intense radiation but for a longer period of time, and the health risks include developing cataracts and
an increased risk of cancer. [2] This is the most pressing issue for astronaut safety. Normally, when
exposed to the low levels of radiation we encounter every day, cells are able to mend themselves very
quickly. When we are exposed to high doses, such as astronauts would encounter in space, cells may
not be able to repair themselves and can become mutated

the Shawshank redemption directed by frank Darabont is truly amazing as it will make you think

opinion I really enjoyed this film because of the way Andy has entered Shawshank prison, Andy is

As when we saw Andy we already knew that he was different from the other prisoners, as he was
dressed differently from the rest of them. He was wearing a suit and this represented that he had
power, but now he s looking a bit scruffy and you can see his power slipping away until it s
completely taken away and then he s dressed like them all, unimportant and powerless. An example of
this is when Andy first arrived to Shawshank prison, he was wearing a suit compared to the others
they were untidy and dirty. The first thing that pops into Reds head, he knew Andy was a brainy,
intelligence young man with less friends. This shows how Andy is hopeful and patient, Andy won t

Cuba Post-Cold War Analysis
This week s readings followed the perspectives of the United States and Cuba through multiple
transitions of power throughout the mid 20th century and late 21st century. U.S. policies implemented
by the various presidents over this sixty year span were unable to solve previous hegemonic and
interventionist ideologies. On the other hand, Cuba pre and post Cold War was a growing power that
gave voice and representation to nations who had been previously colonized and dominated by bigger
superpowers. Cuba wanted to end ties with the United States, a nation who had been instrumental in
preventing their goals and fight for their struggles. Fidel Castro represented the legitimacy of Cuban
goals and pursuits of nationalism across the world. On the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cuba no longer had the Soviets support, which had previously been an instrumental part of their
resilience throughout the war. Yet, the United States refused to normalize relations or make amends
with the vulnerable country. Author Jorge I. Domínguez noted, Cuba repatriated its troops, stopped its
military assistance to insurgencies, and began to conform to a world market economy (pg. 4). Post
Cold War, the United States should have extended its reprieve and apologized for its years of
wrongdoings. Cuba had proven itself as a powerful force, a struggle that they had long undergone for
decades, despite great odds. Instead, the United States devised the Helms Burton Act, a policy that
endured U.S. embargo against Cuba one of many modern lineal descendants of the Monroe Doctrine

their same mistakes that put the two nations in such a place. To prove this point again, President
Clinton was even considering military intervention in Cuba before agreeing upon the implementation
of the Helms Burton Act. The subsequent presidents after Dwight Eisenhower and John F. Kennedy

The Space Shuttle Disaster And 12
The first space shuttle, Enterprise, launched in 1977. NASA couldn t have been more proud of their
accomplishments and looked forward to the years to come with many new ideas, experiments to try
and space to explore. While this might have been the case for a few years following, NASA couldn t
have predicted what was to happen on the mornings of January 28, 1986 and February 1, 2003... or
could they? Disaster struck for both the Challenger and the Columbus space shuttles. Even though
both scenarios were different, they were one in the same when it came to the reasoning behind why it
happened. The ideas of cultural change, ethics of organization and decision making were all to blame.
Introduction It has been 29 years since the Challenger space shuttle disaster and 12 years since the
Columbia space shuttle disintegrated during reentry. With proper precautions and improvements to
both shuttles, these incidents could have been avoided.
Summary
The Challenger exploded on its tenth flight during mission STS 51L, killing all seven crew members.
The explosion occurred 73 seconds after the shuttle took liftoff, and the reason behind the explosion
were the faulty O rings. There were predictions that if the O rings were to malfunction due to the cold
temperatures, the rockets could explode before the shuttle took off from the Launchpad (Miller 79).
There had been speculation that the O rings could fail, but those opinions were quickly pushed aside

Dispositional Inference In Research Paper
Humans are social thinkers, and therefore, have actions that are influenced by their social situations.
Social cognition is how people select, interpret, judge, and store the information they receive from
others. Basically, we remember the information we deem important and that means something to us,
and use shortcuts to fill in the rest. We utilize these shortcuts to conserve mental effort, to save time
and thought, and to manage our self image.
One shortcut many individuals use is going off of our current expectations, which can sometimes lead
to holding stereotypes (Trope Thompson, 1997) (Kenrick 76). For example, when I went tailgating
freshman year, I did this without even realizing it. Although I didn t know the fraternity boys who ...

For instance, one weekend I witnessed an acquaintance get into a fight downtown. The thoughts of
people seeing this probably ranged from thinking this individual was aggressive, to thinking he was a
victim. However, knowing this individual as an aggressive, confident guy, I simply made an inference
that he started the fight. Surprisingly enough, to me at least, he said that it was the other guy who
started the fight, and others agreed. This is an epitome of the correspondence bias improperly using
dispositional inferences. This can also be seen in a study by Edward Jones and Victor Harris, 1967.
The study participants read essays that were either pro or anti Fidel Castro, and were told that the
writers either chose their stance, or were forced to take it. You would think that the participants would
judge the individuals who got to choose their side as more strongly biased than those who were simply
given a stance. However, the study participants actually paid little attention to their situations, and
deemed those who were given a side as strongly biased as well (Kenrick 78).
Galen Bodenhausen showed in his experiments (1990) that someone who is considered a morning
person is more likely to use cognitive shortcuts at night, and vice versa. Being a morning person, I can
definitely see this apply in my life. I tend to be exhausted when nighttime comes, so I use shortcuts to
to save as much energy as possible. Since I ve been aware of this, I ve taken note of it, and try to be
more mindful of these shortcuts at night. I also try and push myself to study in the day instead of
night, as this is when my brain is the most active and more likely to soak up the

Heat By Mike Lupa Summary
The book I read this month is called Heat. The author Mike Lupica did a really good job writing this
story. Heat is about a boy named Mike and his brother Carlos, and how they find their way to live
without any parents. Mike is probably the best pitcher on the Clippers, and in the league. Then a kid
named Justin s dad, the coach of the Giants had it out to get him out of the league. Just to help his
team make it to the Little League World Series. Mike just dealt with it for a while, until he got back in
the league, and got to pitch in the series.
To my Miguelito, he said. May the next time we are all together be on the day when he pitches himself
and his proud papi to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. (Lupica ... Show

This choice impacted the book by letting you read it in Mike s shoes. He also let you feel how Mike
felt. Because if you close your eyes you can picture every bit off the book because of all the sensory
details Mike Lupica used. For instance when Mike was the third base coach he called the fake bunt,
and told the kid to swing Mike Lupica wrote Wham!!! That made me feel like I was there and could
hear the sound of the ball being whaled off of the bat. That is just one example out of the rest of the
really good details Mike Lupica used in the book. I recommend this book to someone that likes
baseball or somebody that likes to read about sports. I chose this recommendation because the book is
about baseball. Also somebody that likes lovey dovey books won t like this book. I said this because
this has nothing even remotely close to this. I rate this book a 10 out of 10. My reason for choosing the
rate I did was that this was a great book. Heat was the best book I have ever read. I think I liked it a lot
because it was about baseball, and I love everything about baseball. Mike Lupica used so many
details, and it made me just want to keep reading. He also used so many hooks during the book, and I
got to the point where I couldn t put the book down. I liked the book the most during the second

Introduction to Scientific Thought: Science Experiment Project
Introduction
My wife and I love to cook and especially love to make sweet things. Every year around late April or
early May, we travel past Marble Falls to Sweet Berry Farms and hand pick strawberries to make our
favorite sweet treats. My wife is somewhat of an expert in the making of strawberry jam and I dabble
in desserts made with chocolate; strawberries dipped in milk, dark, and white chocolate are my
personal favorites. I am not a professionally trained chef and don t know much about how foods react

U.s. National Bureau Of Economic Research
In December of 2007 the Great Recession hit not only the american but the world s economy.
According to the U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) the struggle didn t end in the
United States until June 2009, and therefore had a duration of about 18 months. This global crisis
ranks fourth in terms of the weighted sum of countries suffering it (NBER). Consumers, who had been
the engine of the economy for the past several decades, suffered the loss of their jobs. Between 2008
and 2009, the U.S. labor market lost 8.4 million jobs, or 6.1% of all payroll employment (State of
Working America). This resulted in the most sever consumer spending decline since World War II and
the worst employment contraction since the Great Depression, reaching a peak of 10% of all the
workforce on October 2009 (BLS). The economy was already faltering in the banking sector, but it
finally crashed with the dearth of credit. As a heart distributes the blood throughout the human body,
even reaching the limbs, allowing the body to work properly, the banking sector pumps credit,
reaching every business in every sector. When the banking sector stops giving credit, the whole
economy freezes since businesses don t have means to pay their bills. There are reasons why the banks
stopped the flow of credit, and they could have been avoided if the government had corrected the bad
manners to which the banking sector was getting used, all driven by the ambition to generate more
revenue. The

Main Facts of the Case This case is a cyber hacker crime case that is a result of stolen credit cards
from five hackers. There were several more involved in the act, but the five, located in the Ukraine
and Russian area were the main perpetrators. The approximate amount of credit that was stolen was
$300 million from various companies. The major companies include NASDAQ OMX Group Inc.,
Visa Inc., Dow Jones Inc., J.C. Penney Co, JetBlue Airways Corp and Carrefour SA (Post, 2013). The
companies and the hackers involved were all a part of the same incidence. In the case, the hackers
used firms secured information of financial transaction at the point of sale to copy fake card
information for their own use. They would be able to make large purchases using the data on the
cards. The only information the hackers would need is the technology to gain access to the firms
information system, card numbers, and a method copy the cards. Fraud Opportunity triangle All fraud
cases, there are motives to commit the crime. The motives can be discovered and possibly prevented
for future attempts to steal sensitive information. In the case of the cyber attack that cause the large
amount of loss can be reviewed and determine outcomes to prevent the incident from occurring in a
similar fashion. The fraud opportunity triangle, including the opportunity, pressure, and

Summary Of A Couple Of Questions By Jordan
In June Jordan s poem A Couple of Questions She asks all of the questions that the main stream media
ignores. On A day to day basis almost no one thinks of the questions posed by her such as how many
Indians there were versus how many are left today; or the cost, socially and monetarily, of LAPD
police equipment used to stomp civil unrest. In this paper my main objective is to answer the question
of how much it costs to purchase the helicopter and armored vehicles used by the LAPD. The first
question to be answered, Is how much does one of the LAPDs armored vehicles cost. Research on the
number of armored vehicles owned by the LAPD was hard to uncover. However, I did find that the
LAPD uses Lenco BearCats ( LAPD Police Car Web Site ). According to AcronymFinder.com
BearCat stands for Ballistic Engineered Armored Response Counter Attack Truck. These Armored
vehicles can cost around $230,000 depending on the upgrades purchased (Schlueb). Not only does the
equipment they use carry a heavy monetary cost, but it also carries a heavy social cost. According to

Obesity and Its Impact on Today s Australian Culture and...
Obesity its Impact on Today s Australian Culture and Society Introduction Obesity is best referred to
as the red alert health zone . World health Organization (WHO 2012) defines obesity as abnormal or
excessive fat accumulation that may impair health . Body mass index (weight/height2) is a measure
that determines overweight and obesity. The reports shows that BMI greater or equal to 25 comes
under the category of overweight, whereas, if BMI is greater than or equal to 30 then the person is
categorized as obese. Obesity is known to be the fifth most leading risk as a cause of death worldwide.
An increase in high fat and salt and low intake of vitamins and minerals results in obesity. Lack of
sufficient physical activity also causes obesity in many people. The thing that makes obesity
dangerous is the fact that today s society does not view obesity as a serious threat. It is important to
understand the fact that obesity is not just being fat or having a BMI i.e. Body Mass Index greater than
that of an overweight person. Many researches (Cameron et al. 2003) indicate that obesity is a serious
problem that can fatally damage the physical as well as the mental health of a person. While all of us
understand how obesity can affect the physical health, a few of us know how mental health is affected
due to obesity. A person suffering from obesity is termed as obese. Such a person is usually a victim of
mockery and insult due to his/her appearance. No matter how

Human Intelligence In The Internet Era. Nowadays, If A
Human Intelligence in the Internet Era Nowadays, if a young adult hears a new terminology, instead
of going to a library and looking it up in an encyclopedia as what his or her parents would have done,
he or she will pull out his or her smartphone and google it. Thanks to Google and all other commercial
Internet companies, we are closer to all kinds of information, both useful and useless, than any other
time in human history. In Nicholas Carr s article Is Google Making Us Stupid? , he admits how the
immediate access to the rich store of online information benefits him largely as a writer (Carr, 589).

which is hardly ever mentioned: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall, as Carr has suggested, we should be aware of the changes in our reading and thinking
behaviors that the Internet causes, try to keep thinking in the deep and perceptive way and cherish the
ambiguity of our human intelligence. In the article, Carr expresses his concerns about the Internet, but
he is not completely negative about it or against it; he writes ahead that the Internet has been a
godsend to him as a writer (Carr, 589). What he tries to do is to remind us that there are another
possible perspective and guideline when we judge and criticize the Internet. After describing all his
concerns about the Internet and human intelligence, Carr writes that maybe he is just a worrywart and
there s a countertendency to expect the worst of every new tool or machine and refers to the example
of Socrates and Squarciafico (Carr, 595). He shows his acknowledgment of the opportunities the Net
brings us and his understanding of the reasonability of possible disagreement with him. You should be
skeptical of my skepticism, he writes (Carr, 596). He expects us to be skeptical of his argument,
because he wants us to think more about both pros and cons of the Net. He does not try to deny the
Internet or convince us not to use it. Instead, he puts forward the other side of the case to let us have
forethought from a different perspective and to be more critical when judging the Internet. When we
agree on the bright side of the Internet, how it enables to

issues. There are many who are unable to overcome an issue as a child and have to live a life full of

Robbie had a kind of spell on Cecilia, making her do things she had not wanted to do. Briony judged

A Comparison Of IQ Tests And The Stanford Binet Test
By definition, intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. It is determined by
the ways we are able to solve problems, our mathematical skills, interpersonal and intrapersonal
knowledge, and naturalist intelligence. We are able to test our personal intelligent through many
different quizzes called IQ tests. One of the most popular ones being the Stanford Binet tests, which is
used as a good resource to test the intelligence of students. However, it is questionable whether or not
IQ tests are very accurate. The two IQ tests that I took for this paper was a Stanford Binet Test, and a
test from a website called Memorado. Each test took me approximately 10 15 minutes to complete in
its entirety. Comparing the two tests, I saw a lot more similarities than I did differences. The Binet test
was a set of 30 questions which assessed verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, as well as abstract
reasoning. The areas were depicted in questions such as mathematical problems, word problems, and
even problems that had a set of letters that I was instructed to make out an English word from them.
The Memorado test was very similar, however it tested more questions about relationships between
objects, and mathematical problems regarding what number came after the last in a tricky sequence.
Regardless of the few differences in question structure, both tests seemed to be looking at the areas of
mathematics, problem solving skills, and our ability to see

The Network Ip Address Scheme
UMUC s new building in Adelphi, MD will have to provide networking connectivity to students,
professors, and staff. In order to begin the process of planning the new network, we will begin by
planning the network IP addressing scheme. It is very important that the network IP addressing
scheme be clearly defined in order for IT administrators to locate computers promptly. Also, in order
to make it easier for the administrators, DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) will be used to
assign IP addresses. The organization of the subnet layout will assist the IT administrators as well as
making effective use of IP addresses.
In order to differentiate between students, staff, and instructors, we will place them on different
subnets. Also, the instructors subnet will begin with a 1 in the third octet, the staff subnet will begin
with a 3 , and the students subnet will begin with a 4 or 5 in the third octet of the IP addresses. Lastly,
the second digit of the third octet will assign the floor for each subnet. An even number in the second
digit will mean that the computer or device on the subnet is located on the first floor and an odd
number means that it is located on the second floor. Network IP Addresses

Juvenile Delinquency Is A Problem
Juvenile Delinquency When looking into the history of United States and elsewhere juvenile
delinquency is a problem and has been one for over a century. Like other systems in place, the system
involving juvenile delinquents has gone through many stages. In the case of the juvenile delinquency,
it has gone through four stages, with us presently in the fourth. The causes behind juvenile
delinquency are still unknown even today. Some blame it on the current culture, the over exposure to
violence, music and video games. Nevertheless, the true causes of it have yet to be determined. The
point of this paper is to examine the possible causes of juvenile delinquency by looking at various
fields and their reasoning behind delinquency. In addition to understand the possible causes of juvenile
delinquency I will be looking at past and present assumptions including practices used currently and
previously to solve delinquency.
History
To gain an understanding of the current practices used to handle juvenile delinquents you must first
look at the history of it and understand where it was. The history of juvenile delinquency is a little
different from the criminal justice system history. Originally, a juvenile that committed a crime went
to jail with other male and female criminals. At the beginning of the criminal justice system men,
women, and juvenile criminals were housed together. By putting juveniles with grown men
incarcerated for various reasons made them easy targets

Nietzsche Genealogy Of Morals
What are morals? Are they a certain thing that have to be done or a thing that is learned? Are they
going to be something that we use in good or bad times? According to the dictionary morals is defined
as relating to, or concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or the distinction between
right and wrong. Simply this means that your right of conduct is ethical. It is also stated that morals
are founded on the fundamental principles of right conduct rather than legalities or custom. So what is
Nietzsche: Genealogy of Morals going to tell us about these morals that will show us that what we do
is more about those humanly principles rather than legal principle?
Nietzsche: Genealogy of Morals is consisted of 3 essays about morals. I will be talking and
summarizing the first essay that he wrote for the Genealogy of Morals. Nietzsche expresses his
dissatisfaction with certain English psychologists. He s not too happy with them because they try to
explain the origin or morality and claim to be historians of such but they do not have the historical
spirit. He states that their theories are suggestive to the fact people use to benefit from unegoistic
actions of others. These same genealogists suggest that we have gone away from this type of morality
and truly forgot all about ourselves. As the readings continue it is determined that Nietzsche does not
agree with this because those who say goodness was shown could not and did not define good. People

Conservative And Liberal Argumentative Analysis
America s greatest battle ever fought is an ongoing clash between conservatives and liberals.
Conservatives and liberals is arguably the greatest rivalry in American history for the simple fact that
is has been going on since the beginning of politics. Naturally some people want to make changes to
progress and move forward toward greater and bigger things, while some tend to to stick closer to the
way thing are at that time because they benefit from it or are scared of changes. All the conflicting
topics between conservatives and liberals can be placed in either the structure of the society, the role
of the government or the progress of the nation. Liberals see the need to adjust to a new way of living
instead of using old methods and praying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When it comes to the structure of society, liberals tend to be more open to equal opportunities and
equality and, like to have society more in control of decisions that directly affect them. For example,
according to Giulia Squadrin in her essay Difference Between Conservatives and Liberals , liberals
strongly believe in freedom of choice with the belief that Women have the right to decide what
happens to their own body. To liberals this belief that people have the right to there own body should
not be alarming and is a given. Liberals believe people are not properties and need to be allowed to
make his or her own choices. On the other hand, conservatives believe that the right to abortion is not
for women to have. Conservatives believe abortion is murder and a serious sin because they are very
stuck to their religious views. Also, when it comes to Euthanasia, the act ending a life to stop further
suffering, liberals have the same viewpoint that they do for abortion, to let the person decide what is
best for his or her self. While conservatives see Euthanasia as illegal and unethical for a doctor to

Donaldson s Beowulf Essay
Donaldson s Beowulf
Fate often saves an undoomed man when his courage is good
Beowulf (Donaldson, 12)
The passage that I analyzed spans the action when Beowulf returns to the halls of Heorot after a harsh
battle with Grendel s mother. He returns to king Hrothgar in the great hall of Heorot to say that he has
successfully completed his boast and killed Grendel s mother. Beowulf states that it has been a very
difficult underwater battle and that he has barely escaped with his life, The fight would have been
ended straightway if God had not guarded me (Donaldson, 29). Beowulf mentions this due to the fact
that the sword given to him by Unferth, called Hrunting, was powerless against Grendel s Mother.

During the festivities celebrating Beowulf s victory the King predicts that Beowulf will become the
protector of the Geats until old age takes him and that he will be one of their greatest kings.
Christian and Pagan Elements
(p 28 31)
GRAPH The many references to God in the pages (28 31) of Beowulf reflect Christian beliefs as
opposed to pagan ones. In pagan worship, nature takes the place of God along with the belief that
inanimate objects contain spirits. The Geats would refer to Grendel and his mother as God s enemy
and descendants of Cain. Cain is a biblical reference to the story of Cain and Abel. In this story, Cain
slays his brother Abel and consequently, is banished by God for all of eternity. Because of his role as
the first murderer, Cain is thought to be the father of all monsters.
Another example of Christianity which is evident in Beowulf is the fact that the eye for an eye belief
is practiced. During the second raid of Heorot by Grendel s mother, a very close friend of King
Hrothgar and great warrior named Aeschere is murdered. The monster, not abiding by the laws of the
time, is subject to the eye for an eye belief and then has to be murdered

solar energy conversion has reached 25% (Green. 2009). The growth over time of solar efficiency is
delineated in Figure 1: Figure 1 Development in Solar Efficiency since 1940 (Green. 2009) As shown
in the diagram, there are majorly three major breakthroughs in solar efficiency. According to Green,
the first one was in 1950s, powered by better cell design, crystal growth and junction diffusion. The
following phase was in 1970s, boosted by the enhanced coatings, surface texturing, development in
shallow junctions and photolithographically defined metallization. Finally, since mid 1980 the solar
technology has benefited from ameliorations in bulk lifetimes, light trapping and passivation, resulting
in more than 5% net growth in efficiency (Green. 2009) Importance of Solar and other Renewable
Energy Sources According to the projections from the United Nations, the world population will reach
9.3 billion in 2050 (Lee. 2011). The figure is expected to reach 10.1 billion by

AAA Brewing Company Case Study
AAA Brewing Company will promote sales by encouraging a sense of community in the surrounding
area. While expansion in terms of distribution territory or physical space (to meet demand) is not
considered, future expansion of fermentation and conditioning will take place modestly in pace with
adjusted revenue and community engagement. Expansion goals include an additional program for
mixed culture fermentations utilizing easily acquired wine/spirits barrels. A strategy of consumer
education, local visibility and aggressive collaboration with neighboring breweries will not only create
a destination for nearby beer enthusiasts, but define Greensboro as a craft beer destination.
AAA Brewing Company will remove all obstacles between the brewer and the customer. Once the
customer tastes the product, he or she will know the quality and craftsmanship that goes into every
bottle of AAA. AAA Microbrews will be available in select local establishments, such as local markets
and corner stores. The following is the sales forecast for the next three years. ... Show more content on

Alpha Male Stereotypes
The Stereotype of The Alpha Male
For past years to current times striking fear and rejection of society, has forced men to create a
stereotype that compensates their deep insecurities, low esteem, and incompetence to value women. In
the course of time, the Alpha Male has developed different characteristics which can easily distinguish
him from everybody else. If those characters are analyzed, it can be understood furthermore more
deep the reason behind this behavior. From a scientific definition, the Alpha Male is considered in the
animal kingdom the leader of his social group, although his leadership comes with the benefits he is
not driven by narcissistic purposes but for the well being of his pack. In contrast with the social Alpha
male, the just mentioned attributes are not present.
Media has portrayed this character in different ways, but for most researchers online, Ryan Gosling in
his portrayal of his character Jacob Palmer from the movie Crazy Stupid Love is the perfect example
of the modern Alpha Male. The famous scene that takes place in the bar in which his character is set
alone in a dark bar club with dimmed lights illuminating the bar counter, reclining on the counter

The Positive Effects Of Great Britain s Relationship With...
Starting from the 15th century, India, a country in South Asia, had an influential relationship with
Britain. Buddhists, Hindus, and Muslims had ruled over parts of the vast country, and none had
succeeded in ruling all of India until Great Britain came. Britain took advantage of the conflicts about
wars for power between Marathas, Persians, and Sikhs, so they arrives at a opportune time. This was
the time when the British East India Company was established in India to break the Dutch monopoly
over spice trade. Britain had started setting up trading ports in India and exchanging goods like cotton,
tea and opium. After the East India Company won the battle in 1757, with the time the East India
Company increased its powers and they began to operate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was a positive effect because it boosted the economy, standard of living and the flow of
information and people. Modern technology and education are also have many benefits for India, the
cars, guns, steel, and steam engines, and vaccines were all brought to India to help industrialize the
new colony. One more benefit for India is that the population and the production of goods all
increased, the improvement of hygiene, vaccinations, larger food supply and medicines are the main
reason that population increased, also the caste system were removed from India so the people will be
more equal, so many people think that Britain connected India to the modern world through science,
technology, and many modern ideas. Now are the negative effects, there were so many wars with
British so many loss of money, and Britain ruined India s economy and forcing them to import their
goods from Britain and not but their own good from India. Also the Britain have racism, they believed
because the people of India were having different cultural so they all below them, and they can not
compared with the British. So that the time when British controlled India have many positive and
negative effects, India was introduced to much more modern technology, and better communication
with others, also increased their population and living condition, but lead to the famine, and

The Capital Of A Great European Empire
Haley Sung
1900 Vienna
5 December 2015
1900 Vienna At the turn of the century Vienna was the capital of a great European empire, which had
for centuries profited from cultural exchange with countries as diverse as the Netherlands, Spain and
American colonies. Utilizing a complex network of marriages motivated by country s advantage, the
Hapsburg Empire was connected with all dynasties that surrounded Vienna. In the city of Austria,
cultural productivity essentially came from the multi ethnic complexion of the city itself, of the Austro
Hungarian Empire. The empire stood as the center of commerce and the seat of government and drew
in people from throughout Central Europe like a magnet. Especially from all the Austria provinces,
immigrants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the realm of creative literature, turn of the century Vienna also generated bodies of text by Hugo
von Hofmannsthal and Edward Mörike, who helped define advanced, modern literature style of
German speaking Europe and reflect on the characteristics of life in Vienna during the Habsburg
Empire.
An Austrian painter named Egon Schiele redefines beauty during the expressionism movement. Born
in June 12th, 1890 in Tuln an de Donau near Vienna, Schiele spends most of his life in Vienna and
dies on October 31st, 1918. After recognition from one of his primary art schoolteachers, Schiele
decided to take a formal training at Vienna s Academy of Fine Arts where Gustav Klimpt had
attended. He admired Klimpt s work out of all artists and found a mentor mentee relationship that had
a great impact on Schiele s development as a young artist. He underwent through a phase of work
inspired by Klimpt then later found his own ways of creating art that forever changed how they
viewed beauty throughout 1900 Vienna. At age of twenty, Schiele studied his own naked body in a
series of self portraits and discovered his own definition of body figures in painting. In his painting
Self Seer I, a nude double portrait of Schiele represents autoeroticism, which was not the norm in
Vienna society. The background carries no decorations as it carries

This would give me insight into how I would approach the different types of employment
opportunities and what conditions came with them. I strategized that if Top Foods first offered
permanent employment, then I would negotiate for lower rates. However, if permanent employment
was only conditioned on the proving of a successful campaign, then I was going to go for a hirer pay
rate. Furthermore, after hopefully learning the type of employment that Top Foods was looking for, I
was going to move onto how much control my client would have in terms of the marketing plan. I
strategized to start with my client s wishes to have full control over the marketing plan, but given the
unlikeliness of that happening, I was going to comeback with the idea that Top Foods could review the
plan and ask for any revision to be made. Thus, letting the negotiation unfold from that point.
Ultimately, throughout the negotiation, I strategized to keep emphasizing my theory that my client had
successfully created other marketing plans for Asian inspired foods in the past. I hoped to show
through stressing this that Top Foods had found an asset to its company and the right person to hire for
this type of work. I hoped to methodically go through each issue between the two parties and touch on
each one in order to come to an agreement that would be suitable to each side. 2. How well did

Essay Urban Inequality
Introduction:
In Urban Studies two schools of academic thought answer the urban question : the ecological and
urban political economy schools. I will argue that the political economy perspective better allows us to
fully grasp the urban question where society and space mutually encompass each other and allow us to
better explain and address urban inequality. First, I will develop a working definition of the urban
question . Second, I will write on the ecological school s view of the urban question and how their
vista explains but inadequately addresses urban inequalities. Third, I will review the political economy
(social spatial dialect) landscape of the urban question and how their panorama explains and gives
better analyses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Essentially, the political economist asks the urban question in two parts, the first questions asks how
do wider social processes affect urban societies and their relationship to geographical space? The
second question asks: how do wider social, political or economic processes affect spaces which impact
upon wider social, political or economic dynamics? Understanding the two academic schools, I will,
in the next two sections, further argue that the interrelationship of society and space from a political
economy standard better allows us to address and understand urban inequalities.
Society and Space: Ecological thought
The ecological school fails to fully address the modern social dynamic of urban inequality. The
ecological perception sees urban social, political and economic unevenness as urban stratification.
Stratification is the end result from the geography or conditions of the city. Again, the underlying
premise that geographical landscape (space) influences social grouping and behavior (society)
becomes central to the urban question . The ecological notion leaves out any beliefs to wider social,
political and economic processes that address geographic location and impinge upon the social
concept of urban inequality (Burgess, 1925). The urban ecologist see urban racial or ethnic, and
economic

Margaret Sanger s Revolution For Women s Rights
Margaret Sanger s Revolution for Women s Rights Today the world s population consists of more than
seven billion people living on Earth, half of which are of men and the other half women. Now imagine
living in a world where those seven billion people didn t have rights connected to their own bodies. In
the field of reproductive rights, imagine if there was no form of contraceptives, birth control, or any
type of sexual education information to the public. The world would be in shambles being over
populated beyond capacity for life on Earth. This have might have been the case if it weren t for the
advocate in her field called Margaret Sanger. Sanger was a wife, mother, nurse, entrepreneur, and
founder of world wide organization known as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon becoming a nurse she took care of many poor families in the urban overcrowded streets of
families that lived in New York. One particular case she always told was the story of Sadie Sachs
which influenced her to really do something about women s rights and control over their own bodies.
That influenced me to pick her to write and research about her. As the story went Sanger said, Sadie
had developed an infection from an illegal abortion and begged Sanger and the doctor to tell her how
to prevent another child, thinking it would kill her. The doctor scoffed at her remark and promptly left,
leaving Sachs with Sanger. She begged for her to tell her a way to prevent conception, but Sanger
could not tell her anything, as it was illegal, (Katzive, 2015, p. 128). She felt enraged by how she
couldn t simply help a women in need of wanting to learn how to prevent herself from having any
more children. After the incident she met her future husband, William Sanger and together they had
three children. Not only did William give Margaret the gift of children and a family, but also gave her
the opportunity to finally share her knowledge of the topic pertaining to women and the use of
contraception. Since William belonged the Socialist Party, Sanger became affiliated with The New
York Call. This was a socialist newspaper where not only did she write a column on birth control, but
later she got an opportunity to create her own newspaper which was called The Woman Rebel.

  • 2. The Importance Of Self-Assessment In Mathematics The results of this study have important implications for teachers. They suggest the need for mathematics teachers to provide middle school students with relevant self assessment skills effective for mathematics learning. The results also suggest that both low and average achievers can benefit from the self assessment instruction and as such both achievers can explore the skills in self assessment to enhance their mathematics achievement. Teachers of mathematics should therefore be equipped with self assessment approach in teaching low and average mathematics achieving students. This will help the students who have difficulties in some areas of mathematics to acquire the necessary skills needed for successful learning of mathematics. Although self assessment increased mathematics achievement of low and average mathematics achievers, self assessment had no effect on mathematics achievement of high achievers. This result indicates the need for more evidence on the effect of self assessment on mathematics achievement of high achievers and conditions lead to positive effects. Second, the present research confirms that students subsequent learning goals to correct misunderstandings and to extend learning is important to students success in math. This suggest that mathematics teachers need to give students frequent opportunities to set personal goals based on their difficulties. However, it is not enough that the teacher asks students to set goals, but there should be a follow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Triumph of Les Misérables Essays The Triumph of Les Misérables Les Misérables (1862), a novel set in early nineteenth century France, presents a story of obsessions in honor, love, and duty, and through it redemption and salvation. It is the story of the poor Jean Valjean, condemned to an unfair amount of time in prison and a life on the run for stealing a loaf of bread for his starving family. The kind act of forgiveness from a Bishop with whom Jean Valjean stays one night, changes the course in which he chooses to live his life. Under a different identity, he becomes wealthy from a business he starts and later is elected mayor of the small town of Montreuil. He falls madly in love with Fantine, one of the workers in his factory. Because Fantine, one of the very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though the character s fate is leading them to lives of misery, their obsession to have a perfectly complete and happy life in their eyes is prevailing. In Victor Hugo s novel Les Misérables he uses the character s obsession to portray the hardships people are willing to endure to obtain what they truly desire in their lives. Jean Valjean, the main character of the book, has two obsessions throughout the novel; living by the Bishop s word (becoming a man of God s will,) and protecting and raising Cosette away from the evils of the world. In the beginning of the story, Jean Valjean can not find anyone to take him in for the night. Because he is a convict, marked by a yellow passport, the Bishop s home is the only door open to him. A convict may leave the galleys behind, but not his condemnation (26). Despite the Bishop s kindness, during the night Jean Valjean steals all of the silver from the house and flees the town. Not far from the Bishop s house, Jean Valjean is captured and returned to the Bishop, who tells the police he gave the silver to the convict. Once the police excuse themselves, the Bishop says, Jean Valjean, never forget that you have promised me to use this silver to become an honest man . . . . You belong no longer to evil, but to good. It is your soul that I am buying for you. I give it to God! (33). From that moment on, Jean Valjean dedicates his life to helping the misfortunate and vows to never again commit an act of ... • 4. Stanley Milgram s In The Perils Of Obedience According to the Oxford dictionary Obedience is defined as a compliance with an order, request, or law or submission to another s authority. In many situations authority demonstrates the ability to control man to go against their beliefs in what is morally right. Due to fear and the insecurities of man, authority may push the limits of society to a point where the individual may temporarily give up their identity. This is proven by The Stanford Prison experiment The combination of realism and symbolism in this experiment had fused to create a vivid illusion of imprisonment. The illusion merged inextricably with reality for at least some of the time for every individual in the situation. It was remarkable how readily we all slipped into our roles, temporarily gave up our identities, and allowed these assigned roles and social forces in the situation to guide, shape, and eventually ... The student had been an actor hired to react to each shock, as the shock was to increase so did their reactions to appeal to the teacher s empathy. When the teachers had reached a dangerous high voltage and continued to do so it demonstrated a form of blind authority. Blind authority is obeying the law only because it is a law, convinced your actions are okay because one is obeying orders of an authority greater than man. It is apparent that this is blind authority due to the teachers questioning if they should continue the experiment and demonstrating feeling guilt or discomfort in their task given. Although the teachers may have felt their task given was wrong they continued to do so because a figure of authority assured them it was okay, they were following the rules ... According to the American Psychological Association, nearly one in ten girls and one in twenty boys say they have been raped or experienced some form of sexual assault (Atlanta Journal, 1). Almost more than half of rape victims know their attacker; they don t report it or tell anybody. In most date rape cases, the attacker and victim have known each other for at least a year or even longer. Only about 10 percent of rapes are reported, less than that go to court. • 6. Kvothe In Patrick Rothfuss s The Name Of The Wind The lifestyle of a troupe of traveling performers, the meticulous science behind arcane magic, and the truth of the evil entities known as Chandrian. All of these subjects are touched upon within Patrick Rothfuss s The Name of the Wind, the first book of a three part fantasy series telling the tale of Kvothe, a man of brilliance, bravery, beauty, and most of all, bad luck (Alliteration). So far within the novel, Kvothe (who now goes as Kote) is regaling his legacy to Chronicler for history s sake, describing the death of his parents at the hands of demons, his punitive years in the alleyways of Tarbean, and his budding enrollment to the University. One prediction is that Kvothe will meet Denna again: some people say there was a woman , says Chronicler to Kvothe (Rothfuss 49). Kvothe responds by abruptly (and angrily) cutting him off. As the beginning of the book actually occurs in the future of most of the story, this comment inclines there is a woman that drastically affects Kvothe. The reason I believe that woman to be Denna is that she is the only female so far in the book that Kvothe has shown an interest to. Entire pages were spent describing how benevolent she is, of her goodness and grace. It would be odd if those descriptions were meaningless and Kvothe and she were never to meet again. Another prediction is that Master Hemme will be the one who gets Kvothe kicked out of the University. He is an insidious and spiteful man, attempting to humiliate Kvothe in front of his class and, when this backfired, trying to expel Kvothe for not simply rolling over and accepting his fate of being inferior. Master Hemme may not be well liked in the school, but he does hold a substantial amount of sway within the University. However, Tycho Brahe was well known in his time as a respected and well paid astronomer. His observations were second to none. He was unsatisfiable and meticulous in his profession, building two of the finest observatories of his time, the second because the first was not up to his own high standards. He is still regarded as one of the best naked eye observationalists of all time (Burke Gaffney, 153). Tycho began to gain fame as an astronomer after reporting on a new star in 1572. Tycho saw a very bright star in Cassiopeia on November 11th, 1572. He fixed its position with regards to the other stars in the constellation, and continued to observe it. It began to fade in brightness early the next year, and was only as bright as Polaris within six months. He also reported on the color changes, from brilliant white to yellow to red and back to red within that same six months (Hall 274). These careful observations helped springboard his career as an astronomer, and he published his findings on De Nova Stella or the New Star in 1574. His publication also tried to shed light on the astrological implications of this star. Tycho predicted strong cosmic influences in Scandinavia and a new order in Europe. He also implied that he knew how to better understand astrology, but made no attempts to either explain this better astrology in writing or to give any sort of temporal indication for his new order. (Christianson, Comet 118 ). His prominent station in Danish society left him in an awkward situation. He wanted nothing more than to continue his studies of the heavens, but it was unheard of for a man of his status. He therefore spent some time giving lectures at the University of Copenhagen. • 8. Tragic Characters from Antigone Tragic Characters from Antigone The story of Antigone begins with the death of Oedipus. His sons Polyneices and Eteocles battled against each other for control of the city Thebes, which resulted in the death of both of them. Creon, brother of Iocasta and uncle of Oedipus, becomes the king. He declared an honorable burial for Eteocles, who fought for Thebes, and no burial for Polyneices since he fought against Thebes. Antigone tells Ismene, her sister of Polyneices s fate, and that he deserves to be buried regardless if Ismene joins her. Antigone does bury her brother, going against her sister s warning about Creon killing whoever touches Polyneices body. A Sentry tells Creon hat someone has done some burial cremations Polyneices, and Creon tells him to find the person who is responsible. A Sentry sees Antigone spreading dust over Polyneices s body, allowing his body to take its place in Hades, and brings her to Creon. When Ismene found out Antigone was caught by Creon, she asks to share in Antigone s guilt, but Antigone doesn t allow her. Creon s son Haimon tries to reason with his father saying he should be fair and restraint. Creon ignores his son and sends Antigone to the tomb. Teiresias, a blind prophet, also tries to warn Creon of the god s anger towards him and that an unpleasant fate will happen. Again Creon ignores the warning and insults Teiresias. • 10. A Short Note On Thyroid And Parathyroid Glands 1 Stacey Raposa October 11,2014 Module IV Assignment Thyroid and Parathyroid Glands Thyroid The thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland with two lobes, one on each side of the trachea, below the level of the larynx. These lobes are connected by a narrow piece of tissue called the isthmus (Johnstone, Farley, Hendry, McLafferty, 2014). The thyroid consists of follicles, which contain follicular cells that synthesize and secrete the thyroid hormones. These hormones are tetra iodothyronine or thyroxine (T4), tri iodothyronine (T3) and calcitonin. The main function of the thyroid gland is to control the body s metabolic rate; however in children it also controls growth and development (Warren, 2014). The thyroid gland is controlled by thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), which is secreted by the pituitary gland (Warren, 2014). These hormones are produced by an endocrine feedback loop that allows the body to control their release according to need (Hall, 2010). The hypothalamus, which synthesizes and secretes Thyrotrophin releasing hormone (TRH), initiates this loop (Hall, 2010). These hormones can be measured in the blood and are important in diagnosing and managing thyroid disease. Thyroid disease is seen in three forms: under activity (hypothyroidism), over activity (hyperthyroidism) and swelling of the thyroid. Thyroid disease is one of the most common disorders of the endocrine system and is more common in women than men. Hypothyroidism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Hester Street American Dream Essay Throughout U.S. history, immigrants have struggled to find a balance between the adoption of American culture and the preservation of their native cultures. While many immigrants near the turn of the 20th century desired full assimilation into American culture, like Jake from Joan Micklin Silver s 1975 film Hester Street, many immigrants today maintain strong ties to their home countries and native cultures. But, considering the recent increase in political and social discussion surrounding the topic of immigration, the struggle to balance American and native customs has intensified for many immigrants. While some tightly cling to their ethnic identities as a reminder of their roots, others fear xenophobic sentiments or simply desire a new culture, more quickly adopting an Americanized lifestyle. Whether open to assimilation or not, many immigrants, like Jake, hope to attain the American Dream . A vision shared by millions of Americans, both immigrants and native born, the American Dream represents the ability to work hard and achieve success for oneself, regardless of status, wealth, race, or creed. This search for success in America has happened for hundreds of years, and is literally the reason the nation was established. Overall, there are countless ways for immigrants to find a balance in adopting American culture and achieving the American Dream, topics not only heavily dealt with in Hester Street, but also relevant to the immigrants of today. After the Governor and Attorney General provide the okay, the inmate is escorted to the death chamber where they are strapped to the gurney in roughly 30 seconds. • 15. Traditional Gender Roles In The Hours And Virginia Woolf s... The comparative study of texts and their appropriations reflect the context and values of their times, demonstrating how context plays a significant role. Virginia Woolf s novel modernists Mrs Dalloway (1925) and Steven Daldry s post modernists film The Hours (2002), an extrapolation, explore the rapid change of social and philosophical paradigms of the 20th century, focusing on women whose rich inner lives are juxtaposed with their outer lives. They place the characters in their respective context, to respond to, the horrors of the consequences of war and AIDS and the vagaries and difficulties of relationships, sexuality and mental illness. Through their differing intertextual perspectives the film and novel represent similar values, within different contextual concerns. In the novel Mrs Dalloway, Woolf conveys her perspective, as she finely examines and critiques the traditional gender roles of women in a changing post war society. Woolf characterisation of Clarissa Dalloway in a non linear structure, presents a critical portrayal of the existing class structure through modernist s eyes. Titling her novel as Mrs Dalloway presents Clarissa s marriage as a central focus of her life, drawing attention to how a women s identity is defined by marriage. Samantha Stickles ESS102 Section AD Due: 10/23/15 Radiation Threats to Astronauts on a Long Journey through Space Astronauts travelling to Mars or another distant area of interest would face numerous challenges throughout their journey, one of which is being exposed to radiation from space. There are two types of radiation: ionizing radiation and non ionizing radiation. [1] Non ionizing radiation is radiation that cannot cause electrons to become detached from the atom, like visible light and radio waves. [1] This type of radiation is not dangerous for astronauts and is commonly found on Earth. Ionizing radiation, on the other hand, has enough energy to remove electrons from their orbits around an atom, causing a charged particle. [1] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [1] This type of radiation would be dangerous for astronauts, and it would need to be shielded against for long distance space travel to be viable. SPE are the ejection of very energetic protons, alpha particles and heavier particles into space; these include solar flares and coronal mass ejections. [1] Under normal conditions, astronauts would not be concerned about this, but occasionally, very large SPEs occur that can produce radiation with energy levels high enough to be lethal in a very short period of time. In fact, between Apollo missions 16 and 17, one of the largest SPEs ever recorded occurred, and it produced radiation with energy levels that would be lethal to astronauts outside the atmosphere in under 10 hours. [1] The health risks of radiation exposure can be described as either acute or chronic. Acute exposure is short term and the severity of symptoms ranges from nausea to central nervous system damage and even to death in large doses. [2] Chronic exposure is usually less intense radiation but for a longer period of time, and the health risks include developing cataracts and an increased risk of cancer. [2] This is the most pressing issue for astronaut safety. Normally, when exposed to the low levels of radiation we encounter every day, cells are able to mend themselves very quickly. When we are exposed to high doses, such as astronauts would encounter in space, cells may not be able to repair themselves and can become mutated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was wearing a suit and this represented that he had power, but now he s looking a bit scruffy and you can see his power slipping away until it s completely taken away and then he s dressed like them all, unimportant and powerless. An example of this is when Andy first arrived to Shawshank prison, he was wearing a suit compared to the others they were untidy and dirty. The first thing that pops into Reds head, he knew Andy was a brainy, intelligence young man with less friends. This shows how Andy is hopeful and patient, Andy won t give up on his dream of living the free life he s entitled to, no matter how impossible it seems. Another example is when Andy enters Shawshank prison and meets the warden, and the other police men s. Andy is now wearing the prison clothes like the other prisoners; this shows how Andy is no longer strong and powerful. He is now stuck in a cell with no friends and is powerless. Andy was different from most prisoners; he was quieter but he never lost his mind like many new prisoners. Cuba Post-Cold War Analysis This week s readings followed the perspectives of the United States and Cuba through multiple transitions of power throughout the mid 20th century and late 21st century. U.S. policies implemented by the various presidents over this sixty year span were unable to solve previous hegemonic and interventionist ideologies. On the other hand, Cuba pre and post Cold War was a growing power that gave voice and representation to nations who had been previously colonized and dominated by bigger superpowers. Cuba wanted to end ties with the United States, a nation who had been instrumental in preventing their goals and fight for their struggles. Fidel Castro represented the legitimacy of Cuban goals and pursuits of nationalism across the world. On the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, the United States refused to normalize relations or make amends with the vulnerable country. Author Jorge I. Domínguez noted, Cuba repatriated its troops, stopped its military assistance to insurgencies, and began to conform to a world market economy (pg. 4). Post Cold War, the United States should have extended its reprieve and apologized for its years of wrongdoings. Cuba had proven itself as a powerful force, a struggle that they had long undergone for decades, despite great odds. Instead, the United States devised the Helms Burton Act, a policy that endured U.S. embargo against Cuba one of many modern lineal descendants of the Monroe Doctrine and the Roosevelt Corollary (Domínguez, pg.12). U.S. policymakers and officials failed to learn from their same mistakes that put the two nations in such a place. NASA couldn t have been more proud of their accomplishments and looked forward to the years to come with many new ideas, experiments to try and space to explore. While this might have been the case for a few years following, NASA couldn t have predicted what was to happen on the mornings of January 28, 1986 and February 1, 2003... or could they? Disaster struck for both the Challenger and the Columbus space shuttles. Even though both scenarios were different, they were one in the same when it came to the reasoning behind why it happened. The ideas of cultural change, ethics of organization and decision making were all to blame. Introduction It has been 29 years since the Challenger space shuttle disaster and 12 years since the Columbia space shuttle disintegrated during reentry. With proper precautions and improvements to both shuttles, these incidents could have been avoided. Summary The Challenger exploded on its tenth flight during mission STS 51L, killing all seven crew members. The explosion occurred 73 seconds after the shuttle took liftoff, and the reason behind the explosion were the faulty O rings. There were predictions that if the O rings were to malfunction due to the cold temperatures, the rockets could explode before the shuttle took off from the Launchpad (Miller 79). There had been speculation that the O rings could fail, but those opinions were quickly pushed aside as the crew boarded with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Dispositional Inference In Research Paper Humans are social thinkers, and therefore, have actions that are influenced by their social situations. Social cognition is how people select, interpret, judge, and store the information they receive from others. Basically, we remember the information we deem important and that means something to us, and use shortcuts to fill in the rest. We utilize these shortcuts to conserve mental effort, to save time and thought, and to manage our self image. One shortcut many individuals use is going off of our current expectations, which can sometimes lead to holding stereotypes (Trope Thompson, 1997) (Kenrick 76). For example, when I went tailgating freshman year, I did this without even realizing it. Although I didn t know the fraternity boys who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, one weekend I witnessed an acquaintance get into a fight downtown. The thoughts of people seeing this probably ranged from thinking this individual was aggressive, to thinking he was a victim. However, knowing this individual as an aggressive, confident guy, I simply made an inference that he started the fight. Surprisingly enough, to me at least, he said that it was the other guy who started the fight, and others agreed. This is an epitome of the correspondence bias improperly using dispositional inferences. This can also be seen in a study by Edward Jones and Victor Harris, 1967. The study participants read essays that were either pro or anti Fidel Castro, and were told that the writers either chose their stance, or were forced to take it. You would think that the participants would judge the individuals who got to choose their side as more strongly biased than those who were simply given a stance. However, the study participants actually paid little attention to their situations, and deemed those who were given a side as strongly biased as well (Kenrick 78). Galen Bodenhausen showed in his experiments (1990) that someone who is considered a morning person is more likely to use cognitive shortcuts at night, and vice versa. Being a morning person, I can definitely see this apply in my life. I tend to be exhausted when nighttime comes, so I use shortcuts to to save as much energy as possible. Since I ve been aware of this, I ve taken note of it, and try to be more mindful of these shortcuts at night. • 21. Heat By Mike Lupa Summary The book I read this month is called Heat. The author Mike Lupica did a really good job writing this story. Heat is about a boy named Mike and his brother Carlos, and how they find their way to live without any parents. Mike is probably the best pitcher on the Clippers, and in the league. Then a kid named Justin s dad, the coach of the Giants had it out to get him out of the league. Just to help his team make it to the Little League World Series. Mike just dealt with it for a while, until he got back in the league, and got to pitch in the series. To my Miguelito, he said. That made me feel like I was there and could hear the sound of the ball being whaled off of the bat. That is just one example out of the rest of the really good details Mike Lupica used in the book. According to the U.S. National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) the struggle didn t end in the United States until June 2009, and therefore had a duration of about 18 months. This global crisis ranks fourth in terms of the weighted sum of countries suffering it (NBER). Consumers, who had been the engine of the economy for the past several decades, suffered the loss of their jobs. Between 2008 and 2009, the U.S. labor market lost 8.4 million jobs, or 6.1% of all payroll employment (State of Working America). This resulted in the most sever consumer spending decline since World War II and the worst employment contraction since the Great Depression, reaching a peak of 10% of all the workforce on October 2009 (BLS). The economy was already faltering in the banking sector, but it finally crashed with the dearth of credit. As a heart distributes the blood throughout the human body, even reaching the limbs, allowing the body to work properly, the banking sector pumps credit, reaching every business in every sector. When the banking sector stops giving credit, the whole economy freezes since businesses don t have means to pay their bills. Obesity its Impact on Today s Australian Culture and Society Introduction Obesity is best referred to as the red alert health zone . World health Organization (WHO 2012) defines obesity as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health . Body mass index (weight/height2) is a measure that determines overweight and obesity. The reports shows that BMI greater or equal to 25 comes under the category of overweight, whereas, if BMI is greater than or equal to 30 then the person is categorized as obese. Obesity is known to be the fifth most leading risk as a cause of death worldwide. An increase in high fat and salt and low intake of vitamins and minerals results in obesity. Lack of sufficient physical activity also causes obesity in many people. The thing that makes obesity dangerous is the fact that today s society does not view obesity as a serious threat. It is important to understand the fact that obesity is not just being fat or having a BMI i.e. Body Mass Index greater than that of an overweight person. Many researches (Cameron et al. 2003) indicate that obesity is a serious problem that can fatally damage the physical as well as the mental health of a person. We are able to test our personal intelligent through many different quizzes called IQ tests. One of the most popular ones being the Stanford Binet tests, which is used as a good resource to test the intelligence of students. However, it is questionable whether or not IQ tests are very accurate. The two IQ tests that I took for this paper was a Stanford Binet Test, and a test from a website called Memorado. Each test took me approximately 10 15 minutes to complete in its entirety. Comparing the two tests, I saw a lot more similarities than I did differences. The Binet test was a set of 30 questions which assessed verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, as well as abstract reasoning. The areas were depicted in questions such as mathematical problems, word problems, and even problems that had a set of letters that I was instructed to make out an English word from them. The Memorado test was very similar, however it tested more questions about relationships between objects, and mathematical problems regarding what number came after the last in a tricky sequence. Like other systems in place, the system involving juvenile delinquents has gone through many stages. In the case of the juvenile delinquency, it has gone through four stages, with us presently in the fourth. The causes behind juvenile delinquency are still unknown even today. Some blame it on the current culture, the over exposure to violence, music and video games. Nevertheless, the true causes of it have yet to be determined. The point of this paper is to examine the possible causes of juvenile delinquency by looking at various fields and their reasoning behind delinquency. In addition to understand the possible causes of juvenile delinquency I will be looking at past and present assumptions including practices used currently and previously to solve delinquency. According to the dictionary morals is defined as relating to, or concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or the distinction between right and wrong. Simply this means that your right of conduct is ethical. It is also stated that morals are founded on the fundamental principles of right conduct rather than legalities or custom. So what is Nietzsche: Genealogy of Morals going to tell us about these morals that will show us that what we do is more about those humanly principles rather than legal principle? Nietzsche: Genealogy of Morals is consisted of 3 essays about morals. I will be talking and summarizing the first essay that he wrote for the Genealogy of Morals. Nietzsche expresses his dissatisfaction with certain English psychologists. He s not too happy with them because they try to explain the origin or morality and claim to be historians of such but they do not have the historical spirit. He states that their theories are suggestive to the fact people use to benefit from unegoistic actions of others. These same genealogists suggest that we have gone away from this type of morality and truly forgot all about ourselves. As the readings continue it is determined that Nietzsche does not agree with this because those who say goodness was shown could not and did not define good. People only see ... • 37. Conservative And Liberal Argumentative Analysis America s greatest battle ever fought is an ongoing clash between conservatives and liberals. Conservatives and liberals is arguably the greatest rivalry in American history for the simple fact that is has been going on since the beginning of politics. Naturally some people want to make changes to progress and move forward toward greater and bigger things, while some tend to to stick closer to the way thing are at that time because they benefit from it or are scared of changes. All the conflicting topics between conservatives and liberals can be placed in either the structure of the society, the role of the government or the progress of the nation. When it comes to the structure of society, liberals tend to be more open to equal opportunities and equality and, like to have society more in control of decisions that directly affect them. For example, according to Giulia Squadrin in her essay Difference Between Conservatives and Liberals , liberals strongly believe in freedom of choice with the belief that Women have the right to decide what happens to their own body. To liberals this belief that people have the right to there own body should not be alarming and is a given. Liberals believe people are not properties and need to be allowed to make his or her own choices. On the other hand, conservatives believe that the right to abortion is not for women to have. Conservatives believe abortion is murder and a serious sin because they are very stuck to their religious views. Also, when it comes to Euthanasia, the act ending a life to stop further suffering, liberals have the same viewpoint that they do for abortion, to let the person decide what is best for his or her self. Donaldson s Beowulf Essay Donaldson s Beowulf Fate often saves an undoomed man when his courage is good Beowulf (Donaldson, 12) The passage that I analyzed spans the action when Beowulf returns to the halls of Heorot after a harsh battle with Grendel s mother. He returns to king Hrothgar in the great hall of Heorot to say that he has successfully completed his boast and killed Grendel s mother. Beowulf states that it has been a very difficult underwater battle and that he has barely escaped with his life, The fight would have been ended straightway if God had not guarded me (Donaldson, 29). Beowulf mentions this due to the fact that the sword given to him by Unferth, called Hrunting, was powerless against Grendel s Mother. Hrunting is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the festivities celebrating Beowulf s victory the King predicts that Beowulf will become the protector of the Geats until old age takes him and that he will be one of their greatest kings. Christian and Pagan Elements (p 28 31) GRAPH The many references to God in the pages (28 31) of Beowulf reflect Christian beliefs as opposed to pagan ones. In pagan worship, nature takes the place of God along with the belief that inanimate objects contain spirits. The Geats would refer to Grendel and his mother as God s enemy and descendants of Cain. Cain is a biblical reference to the story of Cain and Abel. In this story, Cain slays his brother Abel and consequently, is banished by God for all of eternity. Because of his role as the first murderer, Cain is thought to be the father of all monsters. Another example of Christianity which is evident in Beowulf is the fact that the eye for an eye belief is practiced. During the second raid of Heorot by Grendel s mother, a very close friend of King Hrothgar and great warrior named Aeschere is murdered. The monster, not abiding by the laws of the time, is subject to the eye for an eye belief and then has to be murdered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis of Solar Photovoltaic Development and Constraints Analysis of Solar Photovoltaic Development and Constraints History In 1954, Bell Laboratories have developed the first solar cell and the energy efficiency was 6% back then (Goetzberger et al. 2002). The figure has been raised to over 10% within 18 months (Green. 2009). For a long period of time, solar energy has mainly been applied into the power supply of space vehicles (Goetzberger et al. 2002). On account of the substantial development in the performance of silicon cells, the efficiency of solar energy conversion has reached 25% (Green. 2009). The growth over time of solar efficiency is delineated in Figure 1: Figure 1 Development in Solar Efficiency since 1940 (Green. 2009) As shown in the diagram, there are majorly three major breakthroughs in solar efficiency. According to Green, the first one was in 1950s, powered by better cell design, crystal growth and junction diffusion. The following phase was in 1970s, boosted by the enhanced coatings, surface texturing, development in shallow junctions and photolithographically defined metallization. Finally, since mid 1980 the solar technology has benefited from ameliorations in bulk lifetimes, light trapping and passivation, resulting in more than 5% net growth in efficiency (Green. 2009) Importance of Solar and other Renewable Energy Sources According to the projections from the United Nations, the world population will reach 9.3 billion in 2050 (Lee. 2011). Utilizing a complex network of marriages motivated by country s advantage, the Hapsburg Empire was connected with all dynasties that surrounded Vienna. In the city of Austria, cultural productivity essentially came from the multi ethnic complexion of the city itself, of the Austro Hungarian Empire. However, if permanent employment was only conditioned on the proving of a successful campaign, then I was going to go for a hirer pay rate. Furthermore, after hopefully learning the type of employment that Top Foods was looking for, I was going to move onto how much control my client would have in terms of the marketing plan. I strategized to start with my client s wishes to have full control over the marketing plan, but given the unlikeliness of that happening, I was going to comeback with the idea that Top Foods could review the plan and ask for any revision to be made. Thus, letting the negotiation unfold from that point. Ultimately, throughout the negotiation, I strategized to keep emphasizing my theory that my client had successfully created other marketing plans for Asian inspired foods in the past. • 46. Essay Urban Inequality Introduction: In Urban Studies two schools of academic thought answer the urban question : the ecological and urban political economy schools. I will argue that the political economy perspective better allows us to fully grasp the urban question where society and space mutually encompass each other and allow us to better explain and address urban inequality. First, I will develop a working definition of the urban question . Second, I will write on the ecological school s view of the urban question and how their vista explains but inadequately addresses urban inequalities. Third, I will review the political economy (social spatial dialect) landscape of the urban question and how their panorama explains and gives better analyses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, the political economist asks the urban question in two parts, the first questions asks how do wider social processes affect urban societies and their relationship to geographical space? The second question asks: how do wider social, political or economic processes affect spaces which impact upon wider social, political or economic dynamics? Understanding the two academic schools, I will, in the next two sections, further argue that the interrelationship of society and space from a political economy standard better allows us to address and understand urban inequalities. Society and Space: Ecological thought The ecological school fails to fully address the modern social dynamic of urban inequality. The ecological perception sees urban social, political and economic unevenness as urban stratification. Stratification is the end result from the geography or conditions of the city. Again, the underlying premise that geographical landscape (space) influences social grouping and behavior (society) becomes central to the urban question . The ecological notion leaves out any beliefs to wider social, political and economic processes that address geographic location and impinge upon the social concept of urban inequality (Burgess, 1925). The urban ecologist see urban racial or ethnic, and economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One particular case she always told was the story of Sadie Sachs which influenced her to really do something about women s rights and control over their own bodies. That influenced me to pick her to write and research about her. As the story went Sanger said, Sadie had developed an infection from an illegal abortion and begged Sanger and the doctor to tell her how to prevent another child, thinking it would kill her. The doctor scoffed at her remark and promptly left, leaving Sachs with Sanger. She begged for her to tell her a way to prevent conception, but Sanger could not tell her anything, as it was illegal, (Katzive, 2015, p. 128). She felt enraged by how she couldn t simply help a women in need of wanting to learn how to prevent herself from having any more children. After the incident she met her future husband, William Sanger and together they had three children. Not only did William give Margaret the gift of children and a family, but also gave her the opportunity to finally share her knowledge of the topic pertaining to women and the use of contraception.
