Borders Are The Worst Invention Ever Made By Politicians...
The Problem
Borders are the worst invention ever made by politicians, Jean Claude Juncker, the European
Commission president stated this while reflecting on globalization s failed promise of borderless
nations, and the creation of borders more rigid than ever (2016). Across the world, wall building has
become the common political strategy used by nations who deem physical barriers as the only way to
deal with difficult neighboring nations. The increasing fortification of borders as not just a political
line, but as an established physical barrier, responds to the security and migration issues at a global
level. Border walls are used for varying purposes, walls can separate opposing forces; often, they are
used to make territorial claims; however the more problematic use, is the keep out unwanted groups.
When the Berlin Wall fell nearly three decades ago, there were 16 border walls in the world; today the
number is ever growing with over 70 completed border walls globally (Brunet Jailly, 2016). Experts
agree that walls do not address the root problems of security and migration, supported by the fact that
global refugee applications and terrorist attacks have increased tremendously even though countries
have walled themselves off; which leaves unanswered questions as to the real reason walls are still
being built. Although building a wall has become a common political strategy in response to global
concerns of security and migration, nations should consider the reasoning

The Pros And Cons Of Foreign Aid
To Aid or Not to Aid
Foreign aid has played an enormous role in the United States government policy, especially since the
mid twentieth century, following World War II. At that time, the U.S. began providing financial aid,
through the Marshall Plan, to help rebuild Europe (Williams, 2015). Today, foreign aid has evolved to
mean a variety of things. Foreign aid is not strictly financial assistance. According to Williams in the
Encyclopedia Britannica (2015), foreign assistance can include military assistance or equipment,
medical assistance or equipment, or technical assistance and training. However, the most common
foreign aid is official development assistance, which is organized through international organizations
such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund or UNICEF and used to address poverty and
promote development (Williams 2015). Many people feel in the United States feel that it is necessary
to provide foreign assistance to the world. It is thought that helping less developed economies
improves the market for everyone. Others feel that many people are in need here in the United States
and that it does not make sense to send aid to other countries when people need right in their own city,
state, or country. Most people think that a large portion of the U.S. budget is devoted to foreign aid. In
contrast, according to Rutsch (2015), the U.S. spends less than 1 percent of the federal budget on
foreign aid . With the state of the world today,

Call Of Duty Popularity
People line up for hours for midnight releases of Call of Duty. Fans everywhere rave about it, it has
garnered legendary status among the gaming community, and it has also outgunned many other shoot
em up rivals to become the best shooting game around. Here are three reasons why Call of Duty is so
popular. Why Call of Duty is So Popular: Not Original There s liberal borrowing from other games. It
is no secret that throughout the years, Call of Duty has some pretty significant rivals, and on a head to
head basis in the early days, the games often came off worse. The PlayStation 2 era titles are a prime
example of this, with Medal of Honor: Frontline and Black being far superior to the COD series. It
was only with the release of the next gen consoles, when Call of Duty 3 came out, that it came into its
own, having borrowed from the aforementioned titles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Characteristics Of Nocturnal Animals
Nocturnal animals are more active at night than daytime. These animals sleep during daytime and hunt
their food at night. They have special adaptation that helps them to survive at night. They prefer to
come out at night to escape the daytime heat though some nocturnal animals can be seen during the
day and others spend the whole day resting or sleeping. There are millions of animals and some of it is
nocturnal animals. We haven t discovered all of it and other nocturnal animals become extinct as years
passed by, mainly because of their declining habitat and human encroachment of land for
developmental projects. The deforestation is one example of it. They cut trees that result to lose the
animal s habitats though they did that for human s sake. We, humans, need enough space especially
our population is getting bigger as years passed by. As they are losing their habitats, they don t have a
choice but to go near our area and as our self defense we kill them. ... Show more content on

First the predators, if it were daytime, they would easily spotted especially if their predators live in
trees or can fly. Small animals have better chance of going unnoticed as they forage for food and water
at night. Second is the prey that comes out at night, which happens to be a nocturnal also. It is hard to
hunt food at night but predators usually equip with great hearing and eyesight. Others use
echolocation to hunt food. Next is the competition. There is less competition at night. A diurnal,
animals that is more active at night, hunts their food at daytime and a nocturnal animal hunts their
food at night. In this way, both species have a chance to hunt their food without fighting each other.
Last, the temperature. Some animals, like in desserts, are nocturnal to avoid the daytime heat. They
sleep at night when the temperature is high and comes out at night when the temperature is

The Policy Instruments And The International Monetary Fund
Consensus, general agreement among policymakers and scholars, is a difficult task to achieve;
however, John Williamson in 1990 claimed that Washington based institutions such as the United
States Government, think tanks, and the International Monetary Fund had formed a general consensus
regarding economic development polices in Latin America (Williamson 1990). He outlined a
framework and described ten policy instruments that policymakers agreed were necessary to aid
developing countries. The ten reforms that he mentioned included: fiscal discipline, public
expenditures focused on health, education, infrastructure, tax reform, liberalized interest rates,
competitive exchange rates, free trade policies, privatization, liberalization of ... Show more content

However, I will maintain that the Washington Consensus is the combination of neoliberal policy
preferences, which essentially is the harnessing the power of markets which was implemented by
international financial institutions during the 1980s and 1990s (Birdsall 2010 pp.6 ). Additionally, to
measure the success of the consensus it is proper to measure the economic growth and the poverty
rates in the region of Latin America because this is the same region Williamson first noticed the
Washington Consensus. In short, while the Washington Consensus may not be used in the same
manner as Williamson intended it to be, the Consensus has failed to help developing economies grow
measured by GDP growth and hasn t reduced poverty. It is safe to say there is no longer a consensus
among development policies; however, certain policy preferences and the end goal integration in the
global economy will still be found in the next consensus regarding economic development (Nankani
2005 pp. xii). Additionally, from a theoretical level, the Consensus has failed to recognize the diverse
problems of each nation state, and various other factors such as the lack of institution building.

regarding the correct definition of the

Software Development Project Methodologies For Developing...
Software Development Project Methodologies 1, Discuss Software Development Methodologies in
general what is a Methodology, why are methodologies used? Software Development Methodology is
a process of project to develop a software or system to improve its quality.

focusing on coding the software or system (technical part), it will emphasize how to develop the

As the result, there is no turning back and it might cause huge changes of the process. Weaknesses:
https://www.cms.gov/Research Statistics Data and Systems/CMS Information
Technology/XLC/Downloads/SelectingDevelopmentApproach.pdf However, there are lots of
weaknesses for Waterfall during development. The Waterfall model is not flexible and it s too slow
and costly because of the process cannot be changed and need to ensure each step finish before move
to next one. Because of this structure, the process cannot move backward and relay on the design and
documentation in the beginning, for example, it will be difficult and might need to start from
beginning again if clients want to change their requirements. During the development, there will be no
test for the program (only basic test) so some bugs or problems can t be found until system test step
and they need to fix the bugs and problems based on capacity. It wastes lots of time to update all
documentation, in addition, some specifications will be difficult for users to read and understand.
http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/124732/Software Development Methodologies In short,
Waterfall can work well when everything is following the plan because the model rely on all
specification and documentation which finished before implement it, in another word, it s easy to
cause a failure or over budget because of changing requirements. 3,

Mary Terrell Suffrage
Mary Terrell: Taking a Stand for the African American Nation Several reform movements began near
the end of the 1800 and caused a great change in the world we live in today. One of these movements
was the abolition movement calling for an end to slavery. Throughout the time leading to the
abolishment of slavery, African Americans were treated poorly. Many were lynched killed and were
unable to defend themselves due to the lack of education and the rights in the African American
community. Moreover, the Jim Crow laws were enforced, causing the segregation of restaurants,
schools, theaters, and other public places. Another popular movement was woman suffrage, which
calls for women s right to vote. At this point in history, women were unable ... Show more content on

When the Jim Crow Laws were passed, they created a separate but equal nation; however, it was
evident that there was no equality, only segregation. African Americans were deprived of their rights
and as a colored woman, Terrell saw it necessary to fight for the retrieval of those rights. Furthermore,
she believed that people must be educated about the conditions of black people in order tend the
mistreatment towards the colored. To add on, the National Woman s Party wrote, Terrell also believed
that improving America s understanding of black life and culture was crucial to elevating African
American people. To this end, she wrote articles and gave speeches depicting black life in America,
sharing stories of black contributions to society, and encouraging people of all races to find common
ground (National Women s Party). in other words Terrell stood up for the quality and rights of blacks
by giving speeches and educating the public about on the importance of equality. Later on in her life
as she battles with segregation on a daily basis, in the capital of a country based upon the ideas of
freedom and quality, she gets denied service at a restaurant. As a result, Terrell sues the restaurant,
causing the case Districts of Columbia v. John R. Thompson Co., Inc. , which questions the humanity
of and challenge segregation and the Jim Crow laws.

Gender Roles In Star Trek Next Generation Essay
In 1966 a series called quot;Star Trek quot; was created. It s creator, Gene Roddenberry, did not create
the show to be a science fiction series. The series was much deeper than that. It wasn t just about
discovering new planets and civilizations. It was about controversial issues. Even though the series
take place in the 23rd and 24th century the issues struck with the times and related current issues.
Through each series, The Original, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager, there has been
progression with the times and the issues. The issues that surround the episodes of Star Trek include
race, religion, sexuality, the depiction of science and gender roles. The central focus being talked
about in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was the captain, Janeway, Kes and Seven of Nine. This series brought women into leadership
roles. The progression of women in Star Trek has been appropriately timed and has even pushed a
little bit past the time. Even though Uhura basically played the role of a secretary her role still pushed
the envelope for the time because of her race. She was a black actress during or right after the civil
rights movement. She even thought of quitting the role because she felt that she wasn t used enough
for her role in the series. However, after Martin Luther King, Jr. talked to her and told her how
important it would be for her to stay on the show, she did. Women in Star Trek have progressed from a
secretary type, to a doctor and counselor, to the second in command and eventually the first in
command or the captain. Their progress allows them to be more influential.
Let s talk more specifically about the Next Generation series. The Original series showed the four
starring male roles to provide everything for the crew. This is not the case in Next Generation. Next
Generation is more like a family with a father, a mother and children. But who were the biggest
members of the family? There are four characters, which give the presence of a family on Next
Generation.
First, you have the father. This is actually quite simple. You have Captain Picard who plays the father.

Gross National Income (GNI)
I chose to do GNI per capita (PPP 2013) because at first glance I could tell that the numbers would
vary a lot more than the other three options. GNI has to do with thousands while the other choices
were single digits. Gross national income (GNI) was also a topic I find to be interesting. I think it is
beneficial to see each countries individual income and a choropleth map depicts it very well. The first
methodology I used for this map the video by Professor Bell. I looked at the tables in the Appendix
comparing them and doing a little bit of research to see which one was the most interesting to me. I
then opened the Excel sheet and began plugging in the numbers for each country. Once I plugged
them in I ordered them from largest to smallest.

Juvenile Crime Statistics Essay
Juvenile Crime Statistics

Juvenile Arrests 2008
Data is collected by law enforcement agencies within the United States and submitted to the Federal
Bureau of Investigations for tracking purposes. These numbers are used by analysts at the FBI to
indicate trends in crime and to possibly develop alternative policing methods. A statistician can
manipulate numbers to show what they feel is relevant, but aside from just being numbers in a
spreadsheet it allows police forces to determine the trends within their respective communities.
According to Puzzanchera (2009) In 2008, law enforcement agencies in the United States made an
estimated 2.11 million ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As this figure shows that simple assault arrests are decreasing, it is still far higher than it should be.
Implications for Females and Minorities Using the data provided by Puzzanchera (2009), it is obvious
that female offenders are becoming more brazen in their ways. Whereas crime has been predominantly
a male dominated venue, females are staking a claim to their rights to enter the world of crime. This
change in roles is also noted in the adult arrest reports; female arrests have shown a slower decrease
than male arrests. Minorities are also affected by the statistics of the Uniform Crime Report. When
looking at minority arrests, the composition of the community really affects the numbers used. Overall
in the United States the racial compositions for juveniles according to Puzzanchera (2009) showed
that 78% of juveniles were white, 16% were black, 5% Asian, and only 1% Native American. These
figures can be severely misleading in that Hispanic juveniles are classified as white for these studies.
However, using these numbers and the reporting by agencies, violent crimes committed in 2008 were
done by 47% white youth, 52% black youth and a mere 1% were committed by Asian youth, leaving
the last 1% to have been committed by native American youth. As a result, black youth are more likely
to commit violent crimes and be entered into the juvenile justice system.

The Effects Of Extracurricular Activities On College Students
As kids get into high school, most parents hope that their kids will join some kind of club or team. A
question parents might ask is, How involved should kids be in extracurricular activities or should they
even be involved at all? Extracurricular activities can be both advantageous and unpromising
depending on what the student plans on participating in and also how many activities the student plans
participating in. Many studies have been conducted trying to find the answer to those questions. One
great thing that comes along with extracurricular activities is that it looks great on college
applications. They won t know if you spend hours upon hours playing video games; they will certainly
notice a lack of notable activities on your college application (Extracurricular Activity). When
admissions offices for colleges are looking at students applications for their school, the first thing they
look at to determine if they even meet the requirements to get into that school is their grades. The next
criteria is the amount of work or activities the applicant is involved in outside of the classroom. If two
people have the same GPA and the same academic test scores, the admissions office will look at the
extracurricular activities that both of the students have participated in. The student that has done more
outside of the classroom will most likely be accepted over the student he/she was competing against.

Roach s Fight Summary
Roach is the boxing coach of world champion 8 division world, Manny Pacquiao and more, like
Cotto, even Georges St Pierre. He has a fight record of 40 13 and 15 by knockouts. But unfortunately,
it was cut short, since due to taking many blows and barrages of punches over all those years, he
began showing the early signs of Parkinson s disease. But still he refuse to retire until he lost 5 of 6
more fights, until then he just retired at age 26.
Notably one of his greatest accomplishments was training Manny Pacquiao. Being a boxing coach is
to look out for his fighter s and know their weaknesses and strengths, along with their well being.
Pacquiao noted that Freddie knows what s best for me . Freddie s major objectives in training his
fighters is to value strategy, you value strategy, and then you have your plan and your tactics to have
the key in the game to gain an advantage. Roach s strong ace in the hole is his encyclopedic

Active Voice
Voice:
In simple words, Voice (in other words (but rarely said) is also called, diathesis) is a term that
describes the relation between an action (verb) taken by the subject, the subject (the one who performs
the action) and the object (the thing being acted upon).
Active Voice:
Active voice is most commonly used verb. Active voice is where; the subject is the one who performs
an action (verb), while object is the thing being acted upon.
When the subject performs an action, the verb is in Active voice.
For example:
The mouse ate the cheese.
Here, the mouse is the subject, ate is the action (verb) and cheese is the object. Since the subject is
doing an action, we say that the verb is in active voice.

Rita writes a letter.
Here, Rita is the subject, writes is the active verb and letter is the object.
Sarah has written a book on her family.
Here, Sarah is the subject, written is the active verb and book is the object.
Uses of the Active Voice:
Active sentences are more direct (This proves that the subject admits that he was the one who did the
act) and engaging for the reader. The sentences are shorter and allow you to express an authoritative
tone. And they are also often less confusing and ambiguous.
Passive Voice:
Passive voice is where; the object is suspected to have done an action (verb) and the subject is the
thing being performed on.
When the subject is the target for an action, then the verb is in Passive voice.
For example:
The cheese was eaten by the mouse.
Here, the cheese is the subject, eaten is the passive verb and mouse is the object. Since the subject is
the one being suspected for the action, we say that the verb is in the passive voice.

Pros And Cons Of Dishonest Behaviors In College Education
Since finding the right employees is getting more competitive as time goes on, it is not odd to say or
hear that nowadays college students risk their necks on GPA, especially students from different
country or different culture. I believe this caused unstoppable problems in the America college
education, such as doctored documents and proxy for an exam or paper are becoming ordinary among
English as Second Language students. These unethical behaviors are caused by higher standards in
social to be recognized. Students are seeking out for good grades and GPA in order to be fulfill hiring
requirements in nowadays. This is why students falsify documents to be accepted by colleges. Also,
this is the reason why students buy a paper rather than write a paper. I believe students, who engage in
any kind of unethical and dishonest behavior in school, should be punished by school s honor code.
In order to be accepted by a college in the United States, students must attain specific conditions. This
is the reason why some of the Chinese international students commit dishonest acts in academic. In
other words, students break and bend the rules and their moral to be enrolled in a college. In the article
The Plagiarism Plague, Raymond A. Schroth mentions that some other agencies falsify school
letterheads and create doctored transcripts and counterfeit letters of recommendation. These unethical
and dishonest acts should be considered as crime , because they are disregarding on rules

Electronic Health Record Essay
After decades of paper based medical records, a new type of record keeping has surfaced the
Electronic Health Record (EHR). EHR is an electronic or digital format concept of an individual s past
and present medical history. It is the principle storage place for data and information about the health
care services provided to an individual patient. It is maintained by a provider over time and capable of
being shared across different healthcare settings by network connected information systems. Such
records may include key administrative and clinical data relevant to that persons care under a
particular provider. Examples of such records may include: demographics, physician notes, problems
or injuries, medications and allergies, vital ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But with the benefits there are also the risk factors. Some disadvantages of the EHR system would
include; initial cost of planning and implementing an EHR system, lack of standardization across the
healthcare setting, unauthorized access to patient information (security and privacy), inaccurate patient
information if not updated properly, technical downtimes, potential negligence for data loss and
possible patient access to conditions that they don t comprehend which may panic them. Although the
EHR is still in a transitional state, this major shift that electronic medical records are taking is bringing
many concerns to the table. Two concerns at the top of the list are privacy and standardization issues.
In 1996, U.S. Congress enacted a non for profit organization called Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA). This law establishes national standards for privacy and security of health
information. HIPAA deals with information standards, data integrity, confidentiality, accessing and
handling your medical information. They also were designed to guarantee transferred information be

too have their shortcomings. HIPAA can t fully safeguard the limitations of who s accessible to your

the church and later became known as the Puritans (Wood). They demanded for the removal of all
Roman Catholic rituals and wanted to simplify religion to its basics (Shi, 42). The Puritans landed in
American where new colonies were created. The Puritans did not accept those that believed differently
than they did. They left England because they refused to worship in Anglican churches. The Puritans
refused the Quakers and any others citizenship who believed in a different form of worship. The
Quakers had also refused to support the Church of England and were under the leadership of William
Penn. The Quakers stamped their values on the government of Pennsylvania. Other Puritans that were
not as radical in their religious views later formed settlements along the Massachusetts Bay (Wood).
The Pilgrims main reason in coming to America was that they were searching for the freedom to
worship. The Pilgrims, defined as a person who journeys to a place for religious reasons, were also
known as Separatists. The Separatists were with the Pilgrims who traveled across the Atlantic and
settled the first permanent English settlement, Plymouth Colony in New England. The Separatists
required that each congregation rule itself and not be controlled by a bureaucracy

Filter Testing and ADC Filter Report
Analysing and Testing Low Pass Filters for Anti Aliasing
1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 AIMS
The aim of this lab is to test the response and characteristics of an undefined filter circuit. This report
will present the data collected in the lab sessions, interpret this data and discuss the filter s suitability
for use in an anti aliasing circuit in an analogue to digital converter (ADC).
1.2 ANALOGUE TO DIGITAL CONVERSION AND ALIASING ADCs are used to convert analogue
signals to digital signals so that they can be processed by digital systems such as a computer. This is
particularly relevant to audio recording because signals from recording equipment, such as
microphones and electronic instruments, are in an analogue format, and must be converted to a digital
format in order to be processed by a digital audio workstation (DAW) on a computer. Analogue
electrical signals are continuous , meaning that data can take an infinite number of values between the
maximum and minimum voltages. There are also an infinite number of steps on the time scale and so
data at any moment in time can take any value within the scale. Sound travels through air via changes
in air pressure and can be represented by sound pressure level (SPL); this is a continuous scale and so
the pressure can be any value at any given moment in time. When sound is processed by a transducer,
such as a microphone, these changes in SPL are replicated by changing the

Essay On Amelia s Reading Comprehension
Plan/Goal:
My goal was to focus on Amelia s reading comprehension. I had planned to conduct an additional
running record, however I had hoped to engage Amelia in retelling the text, and answering literal and
inferential comprehension questions. I had planned to meet with Amelia twice during the week; once
being, after she went book shopping in the class library and then the next day to focus on her
comprehension on one the books she had chosen. I had planned to have a list of questions for Amelia
and I to discuss verbally. I had plan for my questions to have Amelia thinking within the text, thinking
beyond the text and thinking about the test.

Why did she think that? What characters does she think might be in this story? What was she
wondering about as she looked at the cover and back of her books?
Amelia referenced the back of the book and told me that Dolphin Adventure is recommended for
animal lovers, which she reminded me that she is. Amelia return to the cover of the book to elaborate
that the story may be about how a diver helps dolphins or maybe the dolphins helps the diver. As
Amelia looked at the back of the book more closely now, she asked if she could change her answer,
she now knew the book would be about how a diver helps a family of dolphins who get were asking
for his help.
Amelia shared with me that that Superfudge is a book series and she is familiar with some of the
characters such as Fudge and Peter. Amelia this time made a reference to the back of the book to reply
to me that this book is about Peter and Fudge s family moving, only for a year apparently, but a new
baby is on the way too. Amelia emphasized apparently because why would a family move if they
more space and now adding a new baby would mean their old house would not fit three kids and two
adults.
The next day I had followed up with Amelia and asked her which book had she been reading? She
excitedly showed me how much she had read in Superfudge. She was almost done with chapter 10. I
asked if she would mind reading aloud the last few pages of the chapter she was on. Amelia was polite

Explain The Importance Of Working Together When Working...
All practitioners and professionals working with children can complete a common assessment at any
time for a child they work with. CAF was introduced to provide practitioners with children with an
assessment tool that any frontline worker such as someone working in education, health, children s
social care and housing can use. The CAF is specific to England but the same approach of working
together is recommended in all the countries of the United Kingdom. The aim of the CAF is to ensure
assessment is timely and holistic and that children with a range of needs do not have repeat referrals to
and assessments by a number of agencies, which could cause unacceptable delays to the child s chance
of receiving services. CAF is normally completed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Working together in conjunction with other agencies is clearly an important principle of successful
child protection work. Agencies need to share information, work together to protect children and
support families, in order to improve parenting to a safe standard. All practitioners involved with
children have a role. A child s key person could arrange to meet the parents and the health visitor for
example to discuss the extent to which a child is healthy, safe from harm, learning and developing
well, socialising and making positive relationships with others and not significantly impaired by the
effects of poverty. This type of meeting is called Team Around the Child (TAC). There is a pre
assessment checklist for the CAF which early years practitioners can consult before calling such a
meeting. Meetings like this and the process of drawing up a CAF are voluntary. Early years
practitioners should only proceed with the informed consent of parents. By bringing together
information from a health visitor, the early years practitioner and the parent in a TAC, an assessment
of needs can be made in areas such as development of the child, parents and carers and family

The Bilateral Relations Between Malaysia And China
Malaysia is recognized as one of the Southeast Asia countries that have undergone economic
prosperity. Therefore in this essay, I will argue on two major factors that have promoted the economic
development in Malaysia which are the bilateral trade relations with China and the regional stability in
Southeast Asia. In the first section of this essay, I will provide a brief overview of Malaysia s
economic development trajectory in the early post independence period. Next, in the first part of the
second section, I will highlight on the bilateral trade relations between Malaysia and China as the
main factor for Malaysia s economic expansion. Following the second part, I will emphasize on the
importance of regional stability in Southeast Asia in facilitating Malaysia s economic growth. Lastly,
in the third section, I will provide the conclusion of this essay.
Compared to other Southeast Asia countries, Malaysia had begun its self government at a good pace
with the economic sector as its focus. In the first decade of post independence period, the government
had implemented the Import Substitution Industrialization (ISI) strategy to stimulate the economic
growth and socio economic modernization. It encouraged states to become less dependent on
developed state while urging them to focus on domestic production to substitute the previously
imported manufacturing goods (Dadzie 2013: 138). The implementation of this strategy had
strengthened the country s industry and triggered the

Turbulent Flow Trial in Pipe Flow Experiment
For experiment 100 (pipe flow) there were some operational errors that took place during the lab
period. There was one accident that involved the safety officer and the cross trainer that was there for
the first lab period. Both the cross trainer and the safety officer were near the viscometer as they were
both operating it. When the cross trainer finished utilizing the suction bulb, he was instructed by the
team leader to begin recoding the density measurements. The cross trainer reached into the water bath
picking up a volumetric flask by its cap, this caused the flask to slip from its cap and fall to the table.
While this was happening, the safety officer was crouched near the cross trainer with a stopwatch
trying to record the liquids efflux time. As the flask was falling the safety officer reached out to catch
it and accidently cut his hand when the flask hit the table. Review attached accident report in the
appendix for further detail of the accident.
During the first lab period, after the accident was cleaned up, we were able to obtain four density and
viscosity measurements for both water and propylene glycol at different temperatures. For the pipe
flow experiments, we were able to complete eight trials for turbulent flow experiment, twenty trials
for the pump performance experiment, and five trials for the laminar experiment. These trial numbers
were short of our goal of finishing all of the trials for both turbulent laminar for that day because of

Powerful as it is popular, Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel has been inspiring strength in
women for nearly three decades. A politician, novelist, screenwriter and a teacher, Esquivel has lived a
full life of experiences. Her first book and most popular, Like Water for Chocolate followed the life of
Tita de la Garza, the youngest daughter in the family thus forced to obey the law laid out by matriarch
of the de la Garza clan, Mama Elena. These laws subjected Tita to become the dove in the cage,

The only one who resisted, the only one who said the word without the proper deference was Tita,
which had earned her plenty of slaps. But how perfectly she had said it this time! Mama Elena took
comfort in the hope that she had finally managed to subdue her youngest daughter. (Esquivel 13) This
passage gives the reader an initial insight on the central conflict in the novel, Tita s fight for freedom
from Mama Elena s suppression. Mama Elena is portrayed to have characteristics which resemble to
that of the stereotypically domineering, abusive male figure. Tita must tread waters very carefully
when she is anywhere near Mama Elena, otherwise she would be beaten for any reason. Yet as the
novel progresses, Tita undergoes a change due to exposure and desire. With the introduction of Pedro
(Tita s lover who ends up marrying Tita s sister), Tita experiences new emotions, desire and lust.
Previous to meeting Pedro, Tita never felt the desire to defy Mama Elena, yet her new found love lust
for Pedro gave her a reason to rebel. The introduction of the emotion of desire, a need sparked the
flame of change in Tita. This concept of women in oppression finding something to strive for, even at
a risk, gives women courage. As the age, old saying goes if they can do it so can I . By creating a
relatable scenario, Esquivel hopes to show women that even if the task seems too great to overcome,

The Theme Of Madness In Hamlet And Shakespeare s Hamlet
Shakespeare is known for the many reoccurring themes in his tragedies. One such theme is that of
love causing madness. One prime example of this is Ophelia s downfall in Hamlet. Hamlet has been
transformed into motion pictures any times, and two show the theme of madness in Ophelia in
different ways: the 1990 version of Hamlet created by Zeffirelli and the 1996 version by Branagh.
While both actresses that played Ophelia conveyed the madness well, they took different approaches
in terms of vocal inflections and movements. The directors also took different approaches to portray
madness like costumes and settings. Lastly, while Bonham Carter s Ophelia in 1990 shows some
ambiguity in the reasons behind her madness, Blanchett s Ophelia in 1996 does not.
The major scene that shows the madness Ophelia has descended into is in act four scene five. The two
portrayals by Helen Bonham Carter and Kate Blanchett are quite different as shown by their acting of
this scene. First, Bonham Carter s movements appear much more calculated than Blanchett s
movements, as Blanchett primarily lies on the ground trashing out in a random manner. Bonham
Carter, on the other hand, walks around the set with a purposeful stride (witchywoman4u12, 2011).
Next, they also speak quite differently. Blanchett screams the majority of the speech and speaks with
an inflection that speaks of unsureness. Bonham Carter speaks with a calmer tone like she knows
exactly what she is saying. Lastly, when Ophelia has interactions between herself and another
character like her conversations with Gertrude and Claudius, Blanchett s Ophelia appears to be
unaware of her surroundings and other people initiate the conversations (Aaron Bradford, 2013).
Unlike the 1996 version, Bonham Carter gets up close to people when she is talking to them, and
initiates the conversations between herself and Claudius and Gertrude. This happens during Ophelia s
lines, Where is the beauteous majesty of Denmark...How should I your true love know From another
one? By his cockle hat and staff, And his sandal shoon...Say you? nay, pray you, mark. He is dead and
gone, lady, He is dead and gone; At his head a grass green turf, At his heels a stone, (IV.v,
Shakespeare, William). She

Heritage parks aim is to expand the business and their objectives are to fill up all their business and
room spaces, increase the awareness of the existence of the hotel and to increase the wedding trade as
well as other special occasions. The achievement of these aims and objectives may be supported by
the online presence because tourists and companies on business trips may be looking for a hotel in the
area that specialises in various activities. Since the hotel has a wide range of amenities they can cover
the majority of their customers interests and for business meetings the hotel has rooms especially
designed for the purpose.
The online presence of the hotel means that the customers can actually see pictures of the hotel,
leisure centre, bedrooms, restaurant and business rooms giving the customer an idea from where they
are sat rather than having to visit the hotel first. Online booking is effective as it is a much quicker
way of bringing money into the business. Customer feedback and guest books will give new
customers a brief view on what previous customers have thought of the hotel and whether it is a good
hotel or not.
There may be problems that the management would encounter with an online presence which could be

Every item of clothing ever made had to have gone through a brainstorming, designing, or drafting

Being homeless is one of the hardest things a person can go through. Not having a home to go to or a

reason for that is because it is easier to ignore the homeless than it is to acknowledge and help them.

Executive Summary:
This case presents a scenario where PepsiCo, a company known for its successful acquisitions of food
chains to expand its business, has to weigh its options whether or not to acquire Carts of Colorado, a
merchandiser of mobile food carts and kiosks and California Pizza Kitchen, a big name in the casual

The timing of acquisition by PepsiCo was well planned because the target companies were losing their
market share during that time period and the offer of an acquisition by PepsiCo was accepted with a
hope to drift back into the market.
Consistent with PepsiCo s decentralized structure and the emphasis the firm placed on entrepreneurial
management, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and KFC each operated with a great deal of autonomy. PepsiCo
did not interfere in their businesses unless they thought that their interference was necessary for the
strategic growth.
How does Pepsi s corporate strategy create a competitive advantage for them?
Pepsi s corporate strategy was to follow a Related Linked Diversification (mixed related and
unrelated) because there are only limited links between businesses. They went ahead with expansion
through acquiring other firms only when they believed that the product of the target firm was a
complement to their product i.e. the soft drink. The acquisition of Frito Lay also took place because
Pepsi believed that snack chips went well with soda. Similarly, this corporate relatedness and
operational relatedness can be seen in the acquisitions of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC.
Their practice of letting the managers navigating across the businesses holding different
responsibilities worked well for PepsiCo. This way, transferring

Settings: The first setting is in a knight school where Gawaine is taught how to be a knight. It also
takes place in the forest where he beheads all the dragons and is almost fooled into being eaten.
Plot: This story is about a student becoming a knight with no spirit at all named Gawaine le Coeur
Hardy. He was considered the least promising of all the pupils. The headmaster of the school thought
he make better of Gawaine. He discussed about Gawaine with the Professor of Pleasaunce about how

remembers the magic word, but it is too late to say the word. He swings the ax anyway and beheads

that there is no such thing as a magic word and tells him that he has been doing everything all on his
own. The professor says that he was able to slaughter fifty dragons in less then a year.
Characters: Gawaine le Coeur Hardy: He seems pretty cowardice from the beginning of the book and
still cowardice close to the end. He had no spirit as a knight early in the book and I don t know why he
even tried to become one. At the end he achieves a record of fifty dragons, but is devoured. The only
thing they could find of him were the metallic parts of his medals. They couldn t even find the
ribbons. He made a record for that school that has never been equaled.
The Headmaster: The only reason that Gawaine ever got that far was because of the headmaster. The
headmaster gave him spirit, but after the headmaster told him the truth, I think Gawaine lost his spirit
again. I think that is probably how Gawaine dies.
Conflicts: The first conflict was to get Gawaine to be more enthusiastic about being a knight. This was
resolved by training Gawaine to be a dragon slayer.

Examples Of Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous Carrie Fisher once said, Sometimes you can only find Heaven by slowly

8.3% of the total population in this area of the world ( Indigenous People ). The focus of my report in

While many in the United States and Peru saw this agreement as positive legislation for further
economic growth in both the U.S and Peru, many indigenous groups in Peru had concerns and doubts.
Many indigenous people participated in demonstrations and protests against the TPA. The government
often criminalized and repressed these relatively peaceful acts. On June 5th 2009, outside of Bagua
Chica city violence ended up breaking out between sides, leading to 11 members of the police force
and 23 civilians dead ( Peru Overturns ). WOLA along with 12 other human rights groups wrote a
letter to the U.S Secretary of State asking for the government to examine the TPA, clarify it, and
possibly repeal parts if necessary. They also condemned the violence that had happened on both sides
of the dispute (WOLA). The Peruvian government decided to throw out a couple parts of the
legislation to try and make the indigenous activists happy. While this did help calm things down there
are still ongoing environmental problems especially for indigenous peoples. There was not only a
national outcry for change, but also an international one as

Modernism Essay examples
Modernism
Modernism is defined in Merriam Webster s Dictionary as a self conscious break with the past and a
search for new forms of expression. While this explanation does relate what modernism means, the
intricacies of the term go much deeper. Modernism began around 1890 and waned around 1922.
Virginia Wolf once wrote, In or about December, 1910, human character changed. (Hurt and Wilkie
1443). D.H. Lawrence wrote a similar statement about 1915: It was 1915 the old world ended. (Hurt
and Wilkie 1444). The importance of the exact dates of the Modernist period are not so relevant as the
fact that new ideas were implemented in the era. Ideas that had never before been approached in the
world of literature suddenly began emerging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stepping outside of the box, they wrote what they perceived in their own minds to be reality. The
readers in turn were given a new form of literature that was not written on the basis of beliefs that
earlier had seemed indisputable. Not only were old belief systems disregarded, they were openly
opposed. Even more surprising, the new thoughts were acceptable, and in turn provided an alternative
route for thinking that had not formerly been considered.
Anti Realism is another feature of Modernism. This element included the use of myth and allusion in
writing. Description was a prominent feature in literature before the Modernist period; writers had set
the scene using an exactness that left little room for a reader s imagination. With Modernism emerged
the allusion, which meant that only certain aspects of the setting or scene were revealed. This provided
freedom for the reader to think about what the author was presenting through the text. The work was
created through the inner feelings and workings of the characters and the symbols hidden in the plot
and setting. The way themes and points of view were selected went against the earlier convention also.
Sigmund Freud s Interpretation of Dreams in 1899 opened the door to previously undiscovered value
in the human unconscious. This led to a whole new emphasis of individualism in both the writer and
the reader, who were given free reign to explore not only who a character was

Health Insurance Confidentiality Analysis
Privacy and confidentiality as it relates to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA) are used interchangeably but they are not the same. A health care member can keep a patient
healthcare information from the public and at the same time breached the confidentiality by discussing
the patient medical situation in public with a family member or a friend (Wiener, Gilliland, 2011).
Privacy, as it relates to health insurance portability, can be defined as the privacy rule that protects an
identifiable health information which is called protective health information (PHI) (Wiener, Gilliland,
2011). This information incorporates patient names, address, social security numbers, email, and
phone numbers etc. Confidentiality,

What Are The Arguments Against High Speed Rail
Against High Speed Rail
The development of transportation system in the United States is a mandate of the federal government
as delineated by the Constitution. The US has enjoyed a legacy in development and exploration of
transport system channels. As a result, this has enhanced movement of people and goods across the
nation. Presently, the US has an advanced network of paved highways and the world s most
sophisticated commercial aviation architecture. However, triumph of the transportation system in the
US can be considered as a blessing and a curse in terms of its ability to increase and reduce urban
congestion. Recently, the stimulus plan was proposed with the aim of reducing urban congestion.
Notably, there are people who support while others do not. An analysis of high speed rail operations
will help decision makers understand that high speed rail will not work. Firstly, the cost and benefits
of high speed rails are imbalanced. A research conducted by Bradley and Mwakalonge (2012),
revealed that the cost of constructing a high speed rail is high. ... Show more content on

The federal government oversees roads and street in national forests, national government, and
infrastructures in public owned. Despite the differences in jurisdictions, the federal, state, and local
governments encounter similar issues and problems. The first issue is maintenance of roads and
removal of snow. According to the national transport authority in the country, it is the mandate of the
federal, state, and local to maintain public roads. All the governments are responsible for removing
snows on the roads. The key problem that both governments face in the maintenance of roads and
streets includes road spillage, drainage faults, street light faults, traffic lighting, and crash barrier. In
case any of the above occurs, it is the mandatory of the governments to fix them within their area of

Advantages Of Anti Dynasty In The Philippines
There is political dynasty when members of the same family or clan has dominated or occupied
elected positions either in sequence for the same position, or simultaneously across different positions,
this is now a problem in Philippine politics that the government itself cannot solve. Why? Because
majority of the people seated in position are members of political dynasties. They want to stay in
office because of the strong desire for power, greed, and authority. But why are they still seated even
though we have the power to vote? When almost all of us are aware that they come from the same
dynasty? We cannot blame the Filipino people for that. Because these people are so greedy that they
use their money, influence, and wealth to exploit our votes. In that way, they will dominate politics. I
would try to lay down some reasons why I am in favor of passing an anti dynasty law here in the
Philippines. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his statement, There is something inherently wrong in giving a corrupt family or individual the
chance at an indefinite monopoly in public office... I believe it is now time to pass an Anti Dynasty
Law. I strongly agree with this statement. It is now time that political dynasties should come to a stop.
First, it is unconstitutional. According to Article II Section 26 of the 1987 Constitution:The State shall
guarantee equal access to opportunities for public service, and prohibit political dynasties as may be
defined by law. With this we can understand that political dynasty should not be tolerated because it is
a crime, it does not abide the Law of the land. With political dynasties existing, equal access to
opportunities has been deprived from those who have the passion to hold public

  • 2. Borders Are The Worst Invention Ever Made By Politicians... The Problem Borders are the worst invention ever made by politicians, Jean Claude Juncker, the European Commission president stated this while reflecting on globalization s failed promise of borderless nations, and the creation of borders more rigid than ever (2016). Across the world, wall building has become the common political strategy used by nations who deem physical barriers as the only way to deal with difficult neighboring nations. The increasing fortification of borders as not just a political line, but as an established physical barrier, responds to the security and migration issues at a global level. Border walls are used for varying purposes, walls can separate opposing forces; often, they are used to make territorial claims; however the more problematic use, is the keep out unwanted groups. When the Berlin Wall fell nearly three decades ago, there were 16 border walls in the world; today the number is ever growing with over 70 completed border walls globally (Brunet Jailly, 2016). Experts agree that walls do not address the root problems of security and migration, supported by the fact that global refugee applications and terrorist attacks have increased tremendously even though countries have walled themselves off; which leaves unanswered questions as to the real reason walls are still being built. Although building a wall has become a common political strategy in response to global concerns of security and migration, nations should consider the reasoning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Foreign Aid To Aid or Not to Aid Foreign aid has played an enormous role in the United States government policy, especially since the mid twentieth century, following World War II. At that time, the U.S. began providing financial aid, through the Marshall Plan, to help rebuild Europe (Williams, 2015). Today, foreign aid has evolved to mean a variety of things. Foreign aid is not strictly financial assistance. According to Williams in the Encyclopedia Britannica (2015), foreign assistance can include military assistance or equipment, medical assistance or equipment, or technical assistance and training. However, the most common foreign aid is official development assistance, which is organized through international organizations such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund or UNICEF and used to address poverty and promote development (Williams 2015). Many people feel in the United States feel that it is necessary to provide foreign assistance to the world. It is thought that helping less developed economies improves the market for everyone. Others feel that many people are in need here in the United States and that it does not make sense to send aid to other countries when people need right in their own city, state, or country. Most people think that a large portion of the U.S. budget is devoted to foreign aid. It is no secret that throughout the years, Call of Duty has some pretty significant rivals, and on a head to head basis in the early days, the games often came off worse. The PlayStation 2 era titles are a prime example of this, with Medal of Honor: Frontline and Black being far superior to the COD series. Additionally, to measure the success of the consensus it is proper to measure the economic growth and the poverty rates in the region of Latin America because this is the same region Williamson first noticed the Washington Consensus. In short, while the Washington Consensus may not be used in the same manner as Williamson intended it to be, the Consensus has failed to help developing economies grow measured by GDP growth and hasn t reduced poverty. It is safe to say there is no longer a consensus among development policies; however, certain policy preferences and the end goal integration in the global economy will still be found in the next consensus regarding economic development (Nankani 2005 pp. xii). The Waterfall model is not flexible and it s too slow and costly because of the process cannot be changed and need to ensure each step finish before move to next one. Because of this structure, the process cannot move backward and relay on the design and documentation in the beginning, for example, it will be difficult and might need to start from beginning again if clients want to change their requirements. Implications for Females and Minorities Using the data provided by Puzzanchera (2009), it is obvious that female offenders are becoming more brazen in their ways. Whereas crime has been predominantly a male dominated venue, females are staking a claim to their rights to enter the world of crime. This change in roles is also noted in the adult arrest reports; female arrests have shown a slower decrease than male arrests. Minorities are also affected by the statistics of the Uniform Crime Report. When looking at minority arrests, the composition of the community really affects the numbers used. Overall in the United States the racial compositions for juveniles according to Puzzanchera (2009) showed that 78% of juveniles were white, 16% were black, 5% Asian, and only 1% Native American. These figures can be severely misleading in that Hispanic juveniles are classified as white for these studies. However, using these numbers and the reporting by agencies, violent crimes committed in 2008 were done by 47% white youth, 52% black youth and a mere 1% were committed by Asian youth, leaving the last 1% to have been committed by native American youth. This is particularly relevant to audio recording because signals from recording equipment, such as microphones and electronic instruments, are in an analogue format, and must be converted to a digital format in order to be processed by a digital audio workstation (DAW) on a computer. CAF was introduced to provide practitioners with children with an assessment tool that any frontline worker such as someone working in education, health, children s social care and housing can use. The CAF is specific to England but the same approach of working together is recommended in all the countries of the United Kingdom. The aim of the CAF is to ensure assessment is timely and holistic and that children with a range of needs do not have repeat referrals to and assessments by a number of agencies, which could cause unacceptable delays to the child s chance of receiving services. Agencies need to share information, work together to protect children and support families, in order to improve parenting to a safe standard. All practitioners involved with children have a role. A child s key person could arrange to meet the parents and the health visitor for example to discuss the extent to which a child is healthy, safe from harm, learning and developing well, socialising and making positive relationships with others and not significantly impaired by the effects of poverty. This type of meeting is called Team Around the Child (TAC). There is a pre assessment checklist for the CAF which early years practitioners can consult before calling such a meeting. Meetings like this and the process of drawing up a CAF are voluntary. Early years practitioners should only proceed with the informed consent of parents. By bringing together information from a health visitor, the early years practitioner and the parent in a TAC, an assessment of needs can be made in areas such as development of the child, parents and carers and family ... There was one accident that involved the safety officer and the cross trainer that was there for the first lab period. Both the cross trainer and the safety officer were near the viscometer as they were both operating it. When the cross trainer finished utilizing the suction bulb, he was instructed by the team leader to begin recoding the density measurements. The cross trainer reached into the water bath picking up a volumetric flask by its cap, this caused the flask to slip from its cap and fall to the table. While this was happening, the safety officer was crouched near the cross trainer with a stopwatch trying to record the liquids efflux time. As the flask was falling the safety officer reached out to catch it and accidently cut his hand when the flask hit the table. Review attached accident report in the appendix for further detail of the accident. During the first lab period, after the accident was cleaned up, we were able to obtain four density and viscosity measurements for both water and propylene glycol at different temperatures. For the pipe flow experiments, we were able to complete eight trials for turbulent flow experiment, twenty trials for the pump performance experiment, and five trials for the laminar experiment. • 30. The Theme Of Madness In Hamlet And Shakespeare s Hamlet Shakespeare is known for the many reoccurring themes in his tragedies. One such theme is that of love causing madness. One prime example of this is Ophelia s downfall in Hamlet. Hamlet has been transformed into motion pictures any times, and two show the theme of madness in Ophelia in different ways: the 1990 version of Hamlet created by Zeffirelli and the 1996 version by Branagh. While both actresses that played Ophelia conveyed the madness well, they took different approaches in terms of vocal inflections and movements. The directors also took different approaches to portray madness like costumes and settings. Lastly, while Bonham Carter s Ophelia in 1990 shows some ambiguity in the reasons behind her madness, Blanchett s Ophelia in 1996 does not. The major scene that shows the madness Ophelia has descended into is in act four scene five. The two portrayals by Helen Bonham Carter and Kate Blanchett are quite different as shown by their acting of this scene. First, Bonham Carter s movements appear much more calculated than Blanchett s movements, as Blanchett primarily lies on the ground trashing out in a random manner. Bonham Carter, on the other hand, walks around the set with a purposeful stride (witchywoman4u12, 2011). Next, they also speak quite differently. Blanchett screams the majority of the speech and speaks with an inflection that speaks of unsureness. Bonham Carter speaks with a calmer tone like she knows exactly what she is saying. Lastly, when Ophelia has interactions between herself and another character like her conversations with Gertrude and Claudius, Blanchett s Ophelia appears to be unaware of her surroundings and other people initiate the conversations (Aaron Bradford, 2013). Unlike the 1996 version, Bonham Carter gets up close to people when she is talking to them, and initiates the conversations between herself and Claudius and Gertrude. This happens during Ophelia s lines, Where is the beauteous majesty of Denmark...How should I your true love know From another one? Even more surprising, the new thoughts were acceptable, and in turn provided an alternative route for thinking that had not formerly been considered. Anti Realism is another feature of Modernism. This element included the use of myth and allusion in writing. Description was a prominent feature in literature before the Modernist period; writers had set the scene using an exactness that left little room for a reader s imagination. With Modernism emerged the allusion, which meant that only certain aspects of the setting or scene were revealed. This provided freedom for the reader to think about what the author was presenting through the text. The work was created through the inner feelings and workings of the characters and the symbols hidden in the plot and setting. The way themes and points of view were selected went against the earlier convention also.
