Christine Rosen The Image Culture Analysis
Face Reality or Live in Fantasy? Imagine a high school student standing in front of their
bathroom mirror taking 300 selfies only to delete 299 of them. Now imagine the young adult
posting the lone surviving picture on instagram for all her classmates to view, comment, and
approve of the picture. Believe it or not that scenario is very common because imaging in today s
modern era has a powerful sense of propaganda to it. That power being the direct result of visual
overexposure, leading to unhealthy long term effects. Christine Rosen, author of The Image
Culture, expresses her negativity about social media imaging predicting. She believes that because
of the overexposure in everyday life of imaging will be damaging to our development, and... Show

It s a false satisfaction that people are making to post online and get as approvals aka likes as
they can get. For Murphy photoshop filtering and the relationship with images can easily be
manipulated to deceiving the eye into what you re portraying the fantasy to be. They need to get
likes to get validation.(murphy) just like rosen s view of photoshop manipulating people s views.
It s basically devaluing yourself by using filters to fit in and be accepted by peers which Murphy
points out as possible mental health issues arising from that. This is not to say that everyone who
takes a selfie is a psychopath, but it does imply a high need for self gratification, particularly if they
are posted online for social approval.(murphy) In that moment Murphy enhances Rosen s
perspective because she brings Rosen s attitude of photo manipulation and uses it as a transition to
her argument that selfie taking brings satisfaction with the likes caused by tampering/filtering the
picture. That contributes to the decline of respect for what the image represents. All relating to
the statement that we tend to lose respect for things we can manipulate aka photoshop/filtering.
The public photo is materialized and the respect for the person with all filter. They put pics on
social media to feel approved and feed off of likes and comments like crack. Murphy expresses
selfie taking and editing as a false art

Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting Essay
Psych: Drug Addiction
The meeting I attended was held in Millersville University at Lehr Hall at 9:30 Am. I attended the
meeting alone and was initially very hesitant and uncomfortable with the idea. At the beginning not
unexpected occurred really happened. It appeared to be a very informal meeting that everyone
seemed to already be acquainted. All the members directed each other by name and I was
welcomed by, what seemed to be, a regular attendee as well as a new member. I sat down and
initiated conversation with the member next to me. She informed me that she goes to multiple
meetings and this was her first time at the specific location. She asked me of my major and other
information. A member of the group, who seemed to be the... Show more content on

This put the topic more towards forgiveness rather than anything else. The only topic discussed,
as I recall, was forgiveness. Many members gave their accounts of moments in which they felt
sorry and how they handled the situation. I will refrain from going into further detail about any
of the members of the group to keep their anonymity. The meeting concluded with the serenity
prayer. I was not familiar with this prayer so I just held the hands of those near me and bowed
my head out of respect. Specific attendees of the meetings appeared more active and attentive
than others. Some of them seemed as though they did not want to be there and looked miserable.
About one or two of the members even fell asleep a couple of times. Maybe some members went
because they had to or because they just wanted to help tell themselves that they are trying. This
really interested me because it is important to take notice that some people go and progress due
to being active and others are just forced. In the case of being forced it is very easy to go to the
meeting and just not be attentive or active. During the meeting I felt very enlightened. The topic
of forgiveness is very broad and is even relevant in my own life. The viewpoint on the topic was
very different and interesting. They talked more about being forgiving of ourselves because we
are the ones that cause ourselves to react negatively to life s daily hassles and stressors. They also
spoke on the control

Copper Preparation Lab Report
4. Describe the procedure for extracting copper from one of its ores. Include relevant chemical
reactions, equations and energy considerations involved. Extraction of copper from chalcopyrite
(CuFe2) occurs using processes such as: mining crushing, froth flotation, roasting smelting and
electrolytic refining.
Mining the ore
Copper ore contains approximately 0.5% copper and 99.5% unwanted rock. To help separate the
mineral copper from the gangue (sand, rock and other impurities), the ore is crushed and ground to
a fine powder form ball mills (0.3mm particle size). Concentrating the ore (froth floatation)
This is the step in which there is the separation of the mineral is and the gangue. Milled ore is
then mixed with collectors i.e. water, detergent, and oils. This is then fed into banks of floatation
cells or tanks. Here air is blown into the mixture forming bubbles. Copper particles will adhere to
the bubbles which rise to the surface. This froth is then removed and put through another series of
test where the water and other unwanted chemicals are removed. This then leaves the concentrated
metal which is now referred to as the metal concentrate. The ore contains approximately 30%
copper after this process. Gangue is removed from the bottom of the tank ... Show more content on

This is then placed in a furnace that is heated to temperatures up to 1000В°C. Combustion of the
coal releases heat, the sand and lime act as a fluxing agent, which removes the impurities of the iron
, for example Iron (II) silicate. These impurities then float to the top where they are removed and
discarded. Copper matte is then formed, a mixture of Copper (I) oxide and copper (I) sulphide
which contains about 50 70% copper. The copper matte is then mixed with additional sand and
smelted again to produce molten copper metal, about 98% pure. Air is blown through molten
copper at 1400В°C, converting sulphides to sulphur

The Health Care System Of The United States As A Whole Essay
The primary focus of this article was to inform its readers of the multiple aspects of the health
care system in the United States as a whole. Within this article, the subjects of health care that are
reviewed are a) the US government s position as the insurer for roughly 60 percent of the
healthcare spending in the US via the public sector, b) the analysis of the funding for government
health care programs such as Medicare, Medicall, and Medicaid and c) the programs in place for
the health care of children and program administration for war veterans. The author discusses health
care policy being at the forefront of world economics and modern medical science as it sets in
motion governing policies and procedure associated with the financial funding and pharmaceutical
appropriation of health care insurance. In the article, Totic presents the notion of health policyin the
US and abroad as an irrefutable necessity as well as for health policies to be simple and in many
ways effective when it came to proper execution of health procedures and proper distribution of
both health information and other resources used in the health care setting. The author expresses
the goal of an effective health care policy as one that ultimately governs and helps maintain the
management of quality of life experienced by the citizens in the United States. The main focus of
the health care policy to be able to both assists in activities for consumption of tobacco, alcohol and
other drugs and things

Mahatma Gandhi Was The Father Of The Independence Movement
Mohandas Gandhi is considered the father of the Indian independence movement. When Gandhi
was 23 years old, he left his family behind and went to South Africa, arriving in British governed
Natal in May 1893. Gandhi arrived there and was hoping to earn a little bit of money and to
learn more about law; instead, he went from a very quiet and shy man to a resilient and potent
leader against discrimination. This all started when he took a business trip after he arrived in
South Africa. He boarded the first train of his journey at the Pietermartizburg station, railroad
officials told Gandhi that he needed to transfer to the third class passenger car. Even though he was
holding first class passenger tickets and refused to move, a policeman came and threw him off the
train. He also faced other challenges on his trip. He found out that this is a common problem with
the Indian community. After his experience, he decided to not let these injustices continue, and he
was going to fight to change these discriminatory practices. Gandhi spent the next twenty years
fight for Indian right in South Africa. During the first three years, Gandhi learned more about
Indian grievances, studied the law, wrote letters to officials, and organized petitions. On May 22,
1894, Gandhi established the Natal Indian Congress (NIC). Although the NIC began as an
organization for wealthy Indians, Gandhi worked diligently to expand its membership to all classes
and castes. Gandhi became well known for his

The Categorization of Rape as a Hate Crime Essay examples
The Categorization of Rape as a Hate Crime As rape and hate crimes are separated into different
categories, their definitions are almost exactly alike. Rape is the crime of having sexual
intercourse with a person against their will usually influenced by violence and the will for
domination. Hate crimes are physical crimes against a certain group; fortunately they also are
usually influenced by violence and the will for domination. Rapeand hate crimes are a huge part of
today s society however they are protected under and placed in different categories, where as they
should both be in the same category. Rape should be categorized as a hate crime.

because of the use and availability of the Internet (Green haven). Adolph Hitler, the founder of
the Nazi s, hated Jews, whites, and homosexuals. Hitler tried killing off these races, the only
group of people Hitler wanted was people with blue eyes and blonde hair. In addition, he tried to
dominate the other groups, which he did well at, and he also fulfilled this sense of domination
by extreme violence. Also this new Nazism originated in Europe. In April 1995, a bombing

least 168 people (Green haven). Tom Metzger was the founder of the White Aryan Resistance

the Ku Klux Klan. He also used technology to spread knowledge about what he wanted to do. As
a result to this, his followers appeared on television shows. Unfortunately, their appearance on the
Geraldo Rivera Show led to a violent brawl. Fortunately in 1990 the Southern Poverty Law Center
(SPLC) won a civil suit against Tom Metzger for an Ethiopian immigrant who had been murdered.

Distorted Reality In Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill
Katherine Mansfield was born in 1888 in New Zealand, and passed away the year of 1923 in
France. She moved to London as a young woman and began writing short stories. In her story
Miss Brill, a lonesome, elderly lady spends her day watching people in a local public garden.
Miss Brill was unnoticed by the people that visited the garden, but she managed to convince
herself that she was an amazing actress and the people around her were just part of her world. Her
fantasy is quickly crushed by remarks made by two people in the garden towards the end of the
story. Events following the incident in the park make it clear that something changed in Miss Brillat
the end of the story. The theme of this story is a distorted reality, and Miss Brill was... Show more

This leaves some people alone, friendless, and left to create their own sense of existence. Miss
Brill is one of these people, she is distant from the world and does not really belong anywhere.
People acted as if she did not exist, and for the most part did not speak to her. She became very
skilled at eavesdropping on other people s conversations without letting them know she was
listening. She was so accustomed to listening to others and observing, she forgot that is was
normal to engage in conversations with others around her. Although Miss Brill is an English
teacher, it is clear that she does not share things with people in her life such as her students. One
can assume that there is not a real connection between Miss Brill and her students. While she
believes going to the park is like a big play in which she is very important, she still fails to share
this information with her class. The relationship with the old man that she reads to at the park four
times a week is almost non existent. She insinuates that if he were to die it would not matter to
her. She thinks she is an actress reading to an old gentlemen, but in reality she is just a school
teacher reading to a man that is sleeping. Miss Brill seems to only have a real connection with

Catheterization Term Paper
The decision either to perform or not to perform a cardiac catheterization in a patient who also has
acute renal failure can be a difficult decision to reach. Diagnostic blood and urine tests can prove to
be beneficial in helping the provider make such a tough decision. The contrast used in the cardiac
catheterization can harm the function of the kidneys, and it can push the patient from acute to
chronic renal failure, which can influence quality of life as well as morbidity and mortality. When a
patient has chest pain, the nurse practitioner should perform a thorough assessment to ensure the
angina is cardiac related and not from another source, such as pleuritic chest pain or muscular chest
pain (Grossman Porth, 2014). Once it is confirmed by one s assessment that the chest pain is
cardiac related, then one should look at serum diagnostic results, such as the cardiac enzymes....

predictive level of L FABP is greater than or equal to 24.5 Вµg/g for individuals with chronic
kidney failure prior to contrast exposure (Manabe et al., 2012); this means that if an individual

individuals with acute kidney failure, instead of chronic kidney failure. If this test proves to be
beneficial for individuals with acute renal failure, then perhaps this could assist providers in their
evaluation of the risks and benefits associated with contrast involved diagnostic studies and

Cardiovascular Health Risk Factors Among Americans
Cardiovascular disease has gained a global attention due to the overwhelming number of cases
reported annually. Stakeholders from various health monitoring agencies, health care providers,
and government agencies have come together to tackle the disease, and reduce morbidity and
mortality. Organizations such as the Million Hearts Initiative, the American Heart Association
(AHA) 2020 Goals, and the Healthy People 2020 goals have established public health objectives
aimed at targeting cardiovascular risk factors, and improving the outcome of the disease (Sidney,
Rosamond, Howard Luepker, 2013). The aspirations of the AHA 2020 objectives are to enhance the
cardiovascular well being of all Americans by 20%, as well as decrease related deaths from
cardiovascular diseases and strokeby 20% (Sidney et al., 2013). Statistical analysis of the
predominance of cardiovascular health risk factors among Americans is overwhelming and
therefore needs immediate action. According to Go et al. (2013), about 31.9 million adults 20
years or older have total serum cholesterol levels greater than or equals to 240 mg/dL. According
to a statistical data recorded between 2007 to 2010, 33% of United States adults aged 20 years
of age or older are hypertensive, that is about 78 million US adults, and 44% globally (Go et al.,
2013). In 2010, an overwhelming 19.7 million people in the United States were diagnosed with

they will be able to get good information and some data, also they will develop their

This method includes the observer not being part of the group and just watching from a far
distance. The advantage of this method is that the observer may get some good data as they are
observing closely. Easier to record data as you are not participating, also it is very cheap and
simple. However, the disadvantages are that you may not get as much data as you are not a part
of the discussions so you may not get a lot of information as you would like. BOOKS: Books are
in formation written down by people. They can be written down as knowledge or real life
stories. The advantages form getting information and writing data from a book is that you will
find out a lot of information that you didn t already know. Also you will extend you knowledge
by reading. However, the information may not be accurate and could be false. Another
weaknesses form getting information books is that it is also quite time consuming looking for the
answers and information when reading a book. WEBSITES: This method is another way to get

Thoreau s Role In Civil Disobedience
Civil Disobedience Civil disobedience is the act of disobeying the law, but in a peaceful or
nonviolent way. There are many ways that this can have an impact on a free society, whether it s
in a positive manner or a negative manner. Civil disobedience has a different impact depending on
what, why, and which law is being resisted. It seems as though that civil disobediencehas more of a
positive impact on a free society. In some cases though, there are those few people who view those
actions as childish.
Many people view civil disobedience as an act of resisting the government; not because those who
are involved are dumb or stupid, but because they are usually trying to fight for a better
government. As Henry Thoreau states in his writing Civil Disobedience, I ask for, not at once no
government, but at once a better government. Thoreau is saying when those who resist the
government, they are not aiming to show they want no government, but a better or smarter
government. There are also those who see these actions as involuntary. They believe that civil...

Ethical Issues In College Sports
Throughout the history of college sports, athletes have been viewed as student athletes. However,
in the last two decades, universities have placed an emphasis on athletes and the sports they play,
rather than their education and well being. School has not been coming first, and this has caused a
struggle for athletes to become eligible to make grades. For example, the Universityof North
Carolina had paper classes where the football players would get credits, but did not need to show up
for class; they only had to complete one paper and most got A s or B s.
Throughout the film, many stereotypes were presented and highlighted to make the athletes look
like something they were not. The film mentioned that C s get degrees, which degrades those who
play college sports by saying that athletes do not try in school are uneducated. However, this ...

the theme of totality of control, as athletes are controlled by rules, so they do not commit any

athletes are amateurs or servants to the university. There is a major different between Amateurism

Intracellular Fluid Essay
Intracellular fluid (ICF) is liquid found inside the cell (separated into compartments by
membranes) and extracellular fluid (ECF) is all of the body fluid outside of the cell. ECF contains
interstitial fluid (found in the lymph, cerebrospinal fluid, glomerular filtrate of the kidneys) and

How would you determine whether she has cystitis or pyelonephritis?
a.Differentiate between cystitis and pyelonephritis. Consider history, possible presenting
symptoms, and urinalysis results.
Cystitis is inflammation of the bladder (lower urinary tract) and is the most common site of UTI
(McCance Huether, 2014, p. 1350). E. coli is the most common pathogen of UTI s and occurs more
common in women due to the shorter urethra and the proximity of the urethra to the vagina and
anus. The patient can be asymptomatic or experience urinary frequency, urgency, and discomfort.
The presence of white cells in the urinalysis is indicative of infection and the urine culture can
identify the bacteria.
Pyelonephritis is a type of urinary tract infection that affects one or both kidneys (upper urinary
tract) ( Pyelonephritis, 2012, p. 1). Bacteria (commonly caused by E. coli.) enters from the lower
urinary tract and can lead to renal scarring. Symptoms of pyelonephritis may include a fever with
pain in the lower back or abdominal area. Hematuria and vomiting can also occur. Diagnosis
includes blood test and urinalysis with culture, but may involve imaging studies to detect renal

The Scythians Summary
The Evidence of the Scythians Much of what is known of the history of the Scythians comes
from the account of them by the ancient Greek historian Herodotus, who visited their territory.
Herodotus was a great Greek researcher of the fifth century B.C.E, who wrote about the customs
and way of living of several civilizations he visited. In one of his investigations he found a very
interesting group of nomad tribes, who were called the Scythians. His findings were recorded in
Herodotus Fourth Book of The Histories,. In this book, he describes the civilization of the
Scythians a as a big, influential and diverse group of nomad tribes that had a well developed
society and military forces. At the same time, he discusses the nature and development... Show more

Horsemen and herdsmen roamed the steppes with their many herds of cattle and horsemen. Thus, it
could be also argued that the horse allowed the communication between people living at great
distances from one another. The Scythians not only were in contact with the civilizations of Greece,
Egypt, and the Near East, but also with many other tribes that lived in the Eurasia steppe. Although
their interaction with other civilizations is reflected in their art, the Scythians are distinguished
from the others through their so called animal style. This style is the representation of animal
motifs naturally rendered in several poses. It is believed that with this depiction the power inherent
in the animal images was destroyed. Furthermore, the Scythian interaction with the Near East
civilizations has been also recorded. The advance of the Scythians into the Near East was caused
primarily for economic reasons. Since the Scythians experienced a surplus in cattle, they moved to
the Near East in order to trade cattle in exchange of the merchandise they needed, such as iron,
copper, and tin. However, the Scythians the Near Eastern states probably when they discovered
their military superiority. The Scythians also invaded Media, and became masters of Asia for

Limitations Of Body Weight Exercise
Bodyweight training has been a popular form of exercise for decades, especially when it comes
to group exercise classes and workout videos. It can certainly be an effective form of exercise, but
bodyweight training programs are often designed without really considering the many different
types of people who perform the workouts. Bodyweight exercises are typically assumed to be
appropriate for everyone, but that is not exactly true.
Since bodyweight exercises do not use external resistance (weights, bands, etc.), people usually do
not think about them having a numerical difficulty or weight value. As a result, bodyweight
exercises are thought of as essentially being one size fits all with a person s weight being the
correct amount for the exercise. There is a major flaw with this way of thinking, because
bodyweight exercises do have weight just like any other form of resistance training. The difference
is that instead of holding or supporting an external weight, the resistance of each exercise is
determined by a percentage of your bodyweight.
Therefore, each exercise does have a numerical resistance/weight value, even though you will not
know the exact amount when performing the exercise. The important thing to realize is every
bodyweight exercise puts a specific amount of stress on your muscles and as with every other type
of exercise, the difficulty of bodyweight exercises should appropriately match your ability level
and your goals. If the difficulty of the exercise is not

Camera Angles In Edward Scissorhands
Camera techniques is a very general aspect of cinema that covers all movements, lens , angles, and
shot types a camera can ascribe to. For example, the camera angle can establish the mood and tone
of a sequence, with the application of high camera angles depicting characters as exposed.
Furthermore, camera movement comprises of zooming, panning, tilting, and tracking as a way of
producing emotionand compelling viewers. Camera lens spans from telephoto to wide angle and
gives to the tone and appearance of the movie. Finally, shot types can include long shot, extra long
shot, close up, extra close up, and point of view, and form circumstance of the characters in their
settings amid that moment in the plot. In Edward Scissorhands, director Tim Burton relies upon a
bevy of different camera angles to capture Edward as an assailable protagonist, alone and existing
as separate from community.
Tim Burton uses creative and sometimes cramped camera angles to convey the primary concepts of
aloneness and self discovery, in addition to augmenting the veiled themes of societal homogeneity
and discrimination, to the audience. This perception is suggested all through the movie through the
director s use of high angle panoramic shots of the unvarying suburbia and long shots of ... Show

Analysis Of The Film Life Is Beautiful
The movie Life is beautiful falls into two parts. The first is beautiful romantic comedy while the
other makes the viewer want to smile but cry at the same time. Roberto Benigni, who also
directed and co wrote the movie, stars as Guido, a hotel waiter in Italy in the 1930s. Watching his
adventures, we are reminded of the legendary Chaplin. The film starts in a scene where Guido
arrives in town in a runaway car with failed brakes and is mistaken for a visiting dignitary. He falls
in love instantly with the beautiful Dora (Nicoletta Braschi, Benigni s real life wife). He becomes
the undeclared rival of her fiance, the Fascist town clerk. He makes friends with the German
doctor (Horst Buchholz) who is a regular guest at the hotel and shares his love of riddles. And
by the fantastic manipulation of carefully planned coincidences, he makes it appear that he is
fated to replace the dour Fascist in Dora s life. Dora who was arranged to be married by the
Fascist town clerk suddenly starts to have second thoughts but because of Guido s charisma and
suave she literarily leaves with Guido on a horse during her engagement party and in one scene
even conspires to meet him on the floor under a banquet table; they kiss, and she whispers, Take
me away! . All of this early material, the first long act of the movie, is comedy much of it silent...

The Disputes Of Scs ( South China s Sea )
The disputes of SCS (South China s Sea) are a perpetual issue on the conflicting licit claim for
territorial land and who has the authority to sovereign it. The dispute arises, since SCS contains
precious natural resources, which the surrounding nations wish the gain, as it would boost their
economy, as a liberalist would think. However, realistically these resource would provide funding
for more military power, as countries are looking to expand their horizons across the sea. This
Great Debate impacts the world as there is a theoretical aspect of what would occur if a certain
nationwas given sovereign over the territory. Liberalism allows us to understand that nations have
different intentions and one doesn t know what the other desirers. While realism allows us to
understand the true nature of this dispute over power, since the territory allows nations to create air

There is a voracity for territory of SCS, since it is imperative to the world s economy, as it is 3.5
million square kilometres, therefore making it the most valuable and busiest maritime trade route
in the world. The Nansha islands also know as Spratly Islands are one of the many disputes, since
the South East Asian nations around it argue their right to sovereign it, China in particular. A

learn in school. I know I can pass these classes, but my mind is always elsewhere. I m still
thinking all the time of the future, the future, the future, but I m stuck here in this present, he
continued. This quote is relatable to me because as an individual, I was at the same point in my
life a long time ago. In Mr. De Jesus s case, his career goals differed from the classes that he was
taking, which damaged his passion for the degree he was trying to obtain. Mr. De Jesus had
many obstacles to overcome, but a strong set of goals and a positive outlook can help a student
accomplish their dreams. He eventually lost interest in school because he felt that he was just
existing, rather than actually learning. If Mr. De Jesus also had a social capital that he could

struggle and achieve his career and academic goals. Students entering college for the first time

Pros And Cons Of The Powhatans
Prior to the arrival of the Europeans the Powhatan s were far less populated and were far less
developed then the Europeans. They were hunter gatherers, hunting in thick forests during
winter or neo lithic farmers who lived in villages and grew their own crops (such as maize,
cotton, medicine and corn) and lived of them during summer and spring. The Powhatan s
believed that land was not to be owned but belonged to everyone and anyone, on that land they
built simple tent like houses that they could easily move when they had to. They did not have
brick houses and buildings that the Europeans had. The Powhatan s used sticks, bows and
arrows to hunt and not guns and weapons used by the Spanish. In a civilised place a man would
do most of the work but women were the ones who built houses, fetched firewood and a lot more
(Source 2) which is one of the many reasons why the Europeans thought the Indians were not
civilised. There were no real boundaries, tribes were separated by rivers, swamps, mountains, and
other natural landmarks (Source 13). The way they fought or killed was brutal, ...two large stones
were placed on the ground, Smith s head was forced upon them and a warrior raised a club to
smash in his brain (Source 4).
The European nation that came to the Powhatan territory were the Spanish people. A lot of things
brought them to the American territory, the Queen of England specifically was interested in the
possibility of the colonies providing gold, a passage to Asia and challenging Spain in a world
totally different from what they were used to ( the new world) (Source 1). The Spanish wanted to
trade, establish new townships and plantations (source 2). They basically wanted to take over the
Powhatan land and own it even if it was to be done by force. The Spanish invaded the Powhatan
territory because they believed that it would make them richer then what they already were, the
routes, the trade, the goods that the Native Americans had and the land of course. All of those
things would help boost the Europeans economy bringing not only money but even more
development to the countries there. They also wanted to settle and develop the place as their own
homes.

The super Bowl is an American sports event i.e. enjoyed the most byamerican people. American
Super Bowl sometimes becomes very dangerous for players as it involves greater chances of
accidents. In the year 1998, Terrell Davis a player from Denver Broncos, got injured and fainted
in the field while carrying the Super Bowl in his hand (Walker 72). This incident led to several
complications and the player finally recovered completely after a good amount of time.
A similar accidental case occurred in the soccer field and famous sportsman Anthony Van Loo

These three incidents of sports illustrates that injuries can be unpleasant in any sports given and

The War Of Syri Origins And Likely Geopolitical Consequences

It has already taken lives of at least 76000 people (Gladstone and Ghannam 4). Moreover, this
confrontation has turned millions of Syrian citizens into refugees who need to seek asylum in

In particular, one should speak about Hafez al Assad and his son Bashar al Assad (Yoo 199). In
many cases, they brutally suppressed every form of opposition to their rule. As a result, many
people began to perceive violent protests as the only possible way of changing the political life of
the country. Apart from that, the government used firearms during the protests that took place in
2011 (Yoo 199). This event provoked this war and polarised the society. This is one of the issues
that should be taken into account.
The discontent with the policies of the state intensified because the government failed to develop
mechanisms that could contribute to economic growth. One should keep in mind that the country
was affected by such problems as declining oil production and increasing unemployment (Winckler
94). Additionally, the economic policies of the state lacked transparency and consistency. In many
cases, new economic policies implemented by the Assad government benefited only those people
who could establish close relations with government officials. The representatives of the
government stated that they wanted to deregulate the economy; nevertheless, this deregulation was
not achieved because too many bureaucratic barriers remained. Moreover, unemployment affected
primarily young adults who were more likely to take part in the protests against the government.
These economic challenges became more acute due to the growing

Florence requires more advanced education in the arts. I propose that a new academy be
constructed in the city with the purpose of teaching these skills to citizens from across Europe.
The main concern for this academy is the curriculum. First of all, there should be an emphasis on
Humanism, because it s a belief system growing in popularity that has been advancing the arts so
far and has been restoring Roman design elements in all mediums of art, most notably observable
in architecture and perspective. Next, I should specify the materials that will be taught. There will
be a focus in architecture, painting, metalworking, ceramics and sculpture. There will also be a
language requirement, calling for students to learn classical Latin and Greek while at the
Academies, allowing for them to read original Roman and Greek texts. This will allow them to
draw inspiration for their work. As someone who learned the secrets of Architecture by studying
Ancient Roman structures and texts, I can attest to their ingenuity and knowledge, some of which,
remains undiscovered. In addition, I propose that a library be constructed in order for students to

Comparing Philosophers Locke And Hume On Personal Identity
Garrett Intro to Philosophy Dr. Christian University of West Georgia 31 March, 2016 Compare
Philosophers Locke and Hume on Personal Identity Introduction The question on personal
identity has been a philosophical debate for a long time. Philosophers over time have tried to
argue what being a person that one is, from one day to the necessarily contains. In their endless
search for philosophical bases on the same, multiple questions on the issues of life and death
arise such that the correct answers to personal identity determine the changes that one person
undergoes, or may undergo without being extinct but rather continuing to exist. Personal identity
philosophical theory confronts the most ultimate questions on our existence as well as who we
are and if by any chance there is a possibility of life after death. In attempts to distinguish change
in a person in survival and after death, a criterion of personal identity over time is given. Such
criterion specifies all the necessary and sufficient conditions that must prevail for a person to
continue to exist (Perry et al,103) Philosophers over time have tried to explain their
understanding on the view of personal identity some of the like Rene Descartes adding the views
of the existence of the material souls or egos. His views on the existence of egos suggest that
people have bodies which can die but still they continue to exist. In as such other philosophers
proposed diverging views from him suggesting that such a simple

Coffee Is The Real Coffee
Espresso Coffee is the Real Coffee
Drinking coffee is a natural habit for any Italian person. Coffee is a strong part of our culture,
and we used to drink it since we were little more than children. Usually for Italians coffee is more
than something to drink because it s an important moment in our everyday routine. In fact, we take
it several times a day, even though we know that this is an unhealthy habit. This is probably the
reason why we don t see another type of coffee preparations like real coffee. Italian coffee
generally called espresso, is simply the coffee, and it is better than the drip coffee because of its
natural and strong taste and the fact that it contains less caffeine ( Caffeine ).
Narration
My personal story with coffee started when I was really young. My parents, especially my
father, used to drink coffee every morning at home. So it was only a matter of time till I was
curious to try it out. At first, I have to admit I found it disgusting. This was probably because, as
my father said, of my young age. Children are more sensitive towards strong flavors, and at that
time its bitterness really made me feel sick. For several years after that experience I ignored
coffee as an ailment, and I would eat cereal in the morning. However, this situation ended when I
was twelve years old. Some of my friends were drinking coffee at that age, and that was
considered something cool, something for a true man. So for these childish reasons I decided to

Parallelism and Connection in The Double Life of Veronique All my life I ve felt like I was here

with each other. Not far into the movie Weronika suddenly dies from an unknown cause. For the
remainder of the film, Veronique tries to understand why she now feels alone in the world and
eventually comes to fruition with the link between her and Weronkia. The film constantly portrays
the deep connection between the women, not only through similar appearances but also using other
elements. Through the excessive use of props and the repetition of the same song, the film creates
a parallel between the two women and presents the idea that with a world so large people can have

moved. The marionette on the table represents Weronika who is dead at this point and the other
marionette represents Veronique who is still alive and moving. The idea of incorporating
marionette dolls in general is interesting with regards to the film because they need someone to

joined with Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Quebec in confederation. This created the province
of Canada, from the merging of Upper Canada (Ontario), and Lower Canada, (Quebec).
As a fellow delegate of the province of Ontario, I believe that the predicament of having only the
government and its associates of having their voices heard upon, leads to an unrepresentative
perspective view towards various events that occurred within the process of confederation. The
numerous misheard voices of various ethnic and religious background, and even gender wise in
confederation predominantly affects our government as a whole. A significant amount of bias is
present, without the multitudinous perspectives of those points of view, creating significantly
narrow perspectives for various situations. This matter is eminently crucial towards the province of
Ontario, and most importantly, towards the dominion of Canada. They have their rights to have
their say in the agreements and/or elections of various events, as they too, are formal citizens of
this profound nation, whom is expanding and developing their population over periods of time

Not when the Indian act begun had the aboriginals been respected as a whole. It was first named
as the Gradual Enfranchisement Act of 1869; it was then consolidated to The Indian Act, in which
was established in 1876. This grants the ability for the aboriginals to receive land and ownership
properties. This in turn signals a severe discrimination in normal reputation towards societal
aspects. Everyone of any culture or religion should be treated of equivalence to

State Intervention Essay
State interventions become complex when the severity of the illness is considered. If a child is
ill, but not ill enough, the state is unable to intervene on the child s behalf. It is only when the
child becomes life threateningly ill that the state is able to step in (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 322). The
inclusion of potentially disabling and disfiguring illnesses has been proposed (Hirasawa, 2006, p.
324). The severity of illness complicates state intervention further when the child is stricken with a
fatal illness that has a treatment but only provides a small chance of survival. The state has to
choose between its mandates of saving the child s life and preventing harm. In less severe cases,
the state may not be inclined to intervene as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
717). However, later cases argue against the autonomy of minors, allowing the state to override
minors and their parents (Woolley, 2005, p. 717). Minors are refused the right to make their own
decisions based on the assumption that they are immature and therefore do not possess the
decision making capacities to make a rational choice (Chen, 2007, p. 645). Current State
Interference The state currently interferes in a variety of manners that might be considered
parenting decisions. The state mandates compulsory vaccinations, education, and adherence to
labor laws (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 319). Children of parents who refuse vaccinations because of
religion are banned from school until the vaccination requirement is met (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 320).
Sanctions such as this are in place to protect society, as one is not allowed to act in a manner that
compromises the rights of others (Hirasawa, 2006, p. 320). In addition, the state influences diet,
safety standards for car seats, and curfews (Herrera, 2005, p. 825). These subtle controls over
behavior go relatively unnoticed until religion is involved, then they become more noteworthy.
Inconsistencies in the Law The law demonstrates inconsistencies in written laws, enforcement, and
prosecution. As previously stated, every province has different laws regarding religious

Surgical Wound Essay
Although pilonidal sinus cannot be considered a debilitating disease, patients are confronted with
discomfort and a lower degree of quality of life due to some complications like the formation of
abscess, sinus related drainage, and pain12,13. The recurrence is often due to the omission of any
tract during the initial operation, infection of the wound, or abscess formation, that may lead to the
formation of the new sinus tract inside the cicatrizing surgical wound. Accumulation of debris or
dead tissue in the intergluteal cleft, sweating, friction or poor hygiene are the predisposing factors
for recurrence14. Also, placing the suture line on the midline with considerable tension on the line
and failure to lessen the depth of the natal cleft... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, similar wound infection rates have been reported in adult and pediatric populations
with saline irrigation versus 1% povidone iodine. A well established disadvantage is its
cytotoxicity to healthy cells and granulating tissues. The solution dries and tends to discolor
skin. It may also cause local irritation to the peri wound skin25. 73(36.5%) patients in the
povidone iodine group reported wound itching following dressing, which stopped within two
weeks. Brownish discoloration of the granulating tissues was reported by all patients in this
group. There was no difference between the Povidone iodine group and the other groups
regarding cosmetic healing of the laid open wound. No local or systemic adverse effects of
Povidone iodine use or signs of toxicity were observed or reported by any patient in our

The Benefits Of Animal Captivity
Tartan Wires, malicious voices, and aching bodies are the majority of their lives. They re
whipped to the core, mentally beaten down. They have no strength, no voice, or significance.
They are toys, expect toys are cherished and cared for. They are ragdolls. They can be compelled
easily and look how you wish them to with just a little tinkering. They look attractive from afar, but
the closer you get the more obvious it becomes how much they have been overused and mistreated.
They are Entertainment animals. They have been in use since the late 1800 s when the first zoo
opened. Since then, the opportunities have shot through the roof. Animals are now not only in
zoos, but films, live shows, and in animal amusement parks. Animal Welfare allows... Show more

It makes sense to give people a glimpse into the animal world once in awhile, maybe even in
hope to slow down the risk of endangerment. What doesn t make sense and is not in any way
reasonable are the use of circus animals. The reason circus animals came to be is that zookeepers
realized what a drive people have to see exotic animals. They realized how much money people
would pay just to see an exotic animal in a cage, then imagined what they could earn by making
them perform. What people need to realize when they buy their tickets to the show is that these
animals are not in any way meant to perform. And even though these animals are often protected by
state and local anticruelty laws, they aren t often enough. The Ringling Brothers, for example
celebrated their 146th year recently even after being accused multiple times of abuse. It has been
documented that The Ringling Brothers have brutally beaten their elephants without medical
attention, shot a tiger to death as payback for disobeyment, and have had many unknown death
causes in their time, yet they are about to celebrate their 147th year on tour

Management Information System
Case Study Questions
1: How do the IT investment strategies and focus of FedEx and its main competitor UPS differ?
Which Company has the better strategy? Why?
The chief information officer of FedEx, Rob Carter states that the IT investment strategies are
customer based technologies. FedEx focuses less on operational technology and more on revenue
generating, customer satisfaction, and strategic advantage technology (O’Brien 43). UPS
is a much larger company that focuses on operations and the bottom line. UPS is constantly playing
catch up with FedEx by mimicking their strategic advantage technology to stay in competition. This
means FedEx always has a head start or the upper hand in the competitive advantage.
FedEx has the best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is this a good vision for FedEx? Why or why not? How vital is IT to this definition of FedEx S
business? Use examples from the case to illustrate your answer.
The idea that Carter believes FedEx is in the business of engineering time is a good business
vision for FedEx because the world and its technology is always changing. With technology comes
managing and engineering time, keeping up with the changes in the society we live in. This is a
good vision for FedEx because when society changes, FedEx acts upon it, communicates and keeps
moving forward. They keep up with society and technology changes by innovating new ideas to
remain competitive. FedEx believes in offering solutions that allow you to engineer time so things
can happen that weren’t able to happen in the past (Carter/O’Brien 44).
Information technology is very important to this definition of FedEx’s business.
Information technology is seen as a competitive advantage for FedEx. FedEx’s main and
biggest competitor is UPS, and in second is DHL. Both companies are continually trying to make
the challenges harder for FedEx and in particular CIO Rob Carter. UPS and FedEx have been at
battle on technology especially customer based technology. “We tend to focus slightly less
on operational technology. We focus a little more on revenue generating, customer satisfaction
generating, strategic advantage technology (Carter/O’Brien Pg. 43). Carter believes in

Confidentiality Debate
Debate
Imagine being backed into a corner and your opponent is closing ground. Right now you re
sweating trying to think of how you can escape. You have no weapons, no hands, you have
nothing but your mouth. Would you be successful or just another victim, the most likely scenario
is the ladder. Today s generation is quick to use violence to resolve issues instead of using their
words, and i am inclined to believe that it has to do with the fact that they do not know how to
have a civilized debate. This is where debate comes into play, debate is when you argue against
an opponent trying to prove that your right and your opponent is wrong. I have been in debate
almost my entire highschool term and i can honestly say that debate has gotten me out of many
sticky situations for the simple fact i knew how to talk to someone and get my point across. I
remember when i was in a debate and the topic was, is Urban Transit a necessity in rundown
neighborhoods. I was on the affirmative side, the side which is for the plan and my opponent
asked would I be willing to ride the bus with convicts and criminals. Now everyone s initial answer

Topicality debate is when the debate goes from facts to definitions this is by far the hardest form
of debate because every word comes into play and you have to know the right definition I can
think of many times where I completely beat my opponent on the definitions of there, they re or
their. You would be surprised how many people don t know the difference. Now you re probably
thinking what does that have to do with arguing but the truth is it has everything to do with it. If
you don t know the right definitions how can you even argue someone. It s like trying to tell
someone that the sky is blue we might know it s blue but if they truly believe it s a different color

Imagine a high school student standing in front of their bathroom mirror taking 300 selfies only to delete 299 of them. Now imagine the young adult posting the lone surviving picture on instagram for all her classmates to view, comment, and approve of the picture. Believe it or not that scenario is very common because imaging in today s modern era has a powerful sense of propaganda to it. I was not familiar with this prayer so I just held the hands of those near me and bowed my head out of respect. Specific attendees of the meetings appeared more active and attentive than others. Some of them seemed as though they did not want to be there and looked miserable. About one or two of the members even fell asleep a couple of times. Maybe some members went because they had to or because they just wanted to help tell themselves that they are trying. This really interested me because it is important to take notice that some people go and progress due to being active and others are just forced. In the case of being forced it is very easy to go to the meeting and just not be attentive or active. During the meeting I felt very enlightened. The topic of forgiveness is very broad and is even relevant in my own life. The viewpoint on the topic was very different and interesting. Extraction of copper from chalcopyrite (CuFe2) occurs using processes such as: mining crushing, froth flotation, roasting smelting and electrolytic refining. Mining the ore Copper ore contains approximately 0.5% copper and 99.5% unwanted rock. To help separate the mineral copper from the gangue (sand, rock and other impurities), the ore is crushed and ground to a fine powder form ball mills (0.3mm particle size). Concentrating the ore (froth floatation) This is the step in which there is the separation of the mineral is and the gangue. Milled ore is then mixed with collectors i.e. water, detergent, and oils. This is then fed into banks of floatation cells or tanks. Here air is blown into the mixture forming bubbles. Copper particles will adhere to the bubbles which rise to the surface. This froth is then removed and put through another series of test where the water and other unwanted chemicals are removed. This then leaves the concentrated metal which is now referred to as the metal concentrate. The ore contains approximately 30% copper after this process. Diagnostic blood and urine tests can prove to be beneficial in helping the provider make such a tough decision. The Scythians Summary The Evidence of the Scythians Much of what is known of the history of the Scythians comes from the account of them by the ancient Greek historian Herodotus, who visited their territory. • 24. Limitations Of Body Weight Exercise Bodyweight training has been a popular form of exercise for decades, especially when it comes to group exercise classes and workout videos. It can certainly be an effective form of exercise, but bodyweight training programs are often designed without really considering the many different types of people who perform the workouts. Bodyweight exercises are typically assumed to be appropriate for everyone, but that is not exactly true. Since bodyweight exercises do not use external resistance (weights, bands, etc.), people usually do not think about them having a numerical difficulty or weight value. As a result, bodyweight exercises are thought of as essentially being one size fits all with a person s weight being the correct amount for the exercise. There is a major flaw with this way of thinking, because bodyweight exercises do have weight just like any other form of resistance training. The difference is that instead of holding or supporting an external weight, the resistance of each exercise is determined by a percentage of your bodyweight. Therefore, each exercise does have a numerical resistance/weight value, even though you will not know the exact amount when performing the exercise. The important thing to realize is every bodyweight exercise puts a specific amount of stress on your muscles and as with every other type of exercise, the difficulty of bodyweight exercises should appropriately match your ability level and your goals. If the difficulty of the exercise is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first is beautiful romantic comedy while the other makes the viewer want to smile but cry at the same time. Roberto Benigni, who also directed and co wrote the movie, stars as Guido, a hotel waiter in Italy in the 1930s. Watching his adventures, we are reminded of the legendary Chaplin. The film starts in a scene where Guido arrives in town in a runaway car with failed brakes and is mistaken for a visiting dignitary. He falls in love instantly with the beautiful Dora (Nicoletta Braschi, Benigni s real life wife). He becomes the undeclared rival of her fiance, the Fascist town clerk. He makes friends with the German doctor (Horst Buchholz) who is a regular guest at the hotel and shares his love of riddles. They were hunter gatherers, hunting in thick forests during winter or neo lithic farmers who lived in villages and grew their own crops (such as maize, cotton, medicine and corn) and lived of them during summer and spring. The Powhatan s believed that land was not to be owned but belonged to everyone and anyone, on that land they built simple tent like houses that they could easily move when they had to. They did not have brick houses and buildings that the Europeans had. The Powhatan s used sticks, bows and arrows to hunt and not guns and weapons used by the Spanish. In a civilised place a man would do most of the work but women were the ones who built houses, fetched firewood and a lot more (Source 2) which is one of the many reasons why the Europeans thought the Indians were not civilised. Comparing Philosophers Locke And Hume On Personal Identity Garrett Intro to Philosophy Dr. Christian University of West Georgia 31 March, 2016 Compare Philosophers Locke and Hume on Personal Identity Introduction The question on personal identity has been a philosophical debate for a long time. Philosophers over time have tried to argue what being a person that one is, from one day to the necessarily contains. In their endless search for philosophical bases on the same, multiple questions on the issues of life and death arise such that the correct answers to personal identity determine the changes that one person undergoes, or may undergo without being extinct but rather continuing to exist. Personal identity philosophical theory confronts the most ultimate questions on our existence as well as who we are and if by any chance there is a possibility of life after death. In attempts to distinguish change in a person in survival and after death, a criterion of personal identity over time is given. Such criterion specifies all the necessary and sufficient conditions that must prevail for a person to continue to exist (Perry et al,103) Philosophers over time have tried to explain their understanding on the view of personal identity some of the like Rene Descartes adding the views of the existence of the material souls or egos. His views on the existence of egos suggest that people have bodies which can die but still they continue to exist. They realized how much money people would pay just to see an exotic animal in a cage, then imagined what they could earn by making them perform. What people need to realize when they buy their tickets to the show is that these animals are not in any way meant to perform. And even though these animals are often protected by state and local anticruelty laws, they aren t often enough. The Ringling Brothers, for example celebrated their 146th year recently even after being accused multiple times of abuse. It has been documented that The Ringling Brothers have brutally beaten their elephants without medical attention, shot a tiger to death as payback for disobeyment, and have had many unknown death causes in their time, yet they are about to celebrate their 147th year on tour ...
