Rudolf Lab The Theorist, The Theory And The Context
Part 1: The theorist, The Theory and The Context Rudolf Laban, a brilliant acting theorist,
inspires many individuals, groups of actors and performers all over the world to this day. His
progressive acting theories mold an individual into a character effortlessly and effectively.
Although his ideas were not always appreciated, his critics only pushed him to better his
techniques. Rudolf Laban was born on December 15th, 1879, in Bratislava, which used to be part
of the Austro Hungarian Empire. His Father, a highly decorated Officer in the Army, hoped that
Rudolf would follow in his footsteps; however, Rudolf found himself intrigued with the complexity
of the arts. He studied art and acting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. While... Show more

Rudolf Laban died at the age of 78 on July 1st 1998, in the United Kingdom. Furthermore, Rudolf
Laban s theories focus primarily on movement. His movements are specific to what the actor
intends on portraying. Not only so, but the movement of the actor would in turn directly reflect
the character s personality. He believed every movement performed displayed a greater purpose
to internally reflect on one s character. Thus, His movement theories help an actor to bring out the
individuality of each character portrayed in a performance or dance. Part 2: Practical Explorations
and Development of the Solo Theatre Piece For this solo piece, I chose to incorporate Laban s
theories into an interpretive dance. I display, not two different characters movements, but one
character s movements as he/she develops, learns, and grows throughout his/her lifetime. To do so,
I will use shadows in the background to interact with the character in order to allow the audience to
better comprehend my actions and movements throughout the song. As the actor, I conform to the
story line and the character I am portraying by my movements and interactions with the shadows
projected onto the backdrop of the stage. As I prepared for this performance, I found it difficult to
incorporate the movement patterns of two characters, due to the fact that it is specifically a solo
piece rather than a duet or

Planificarea strategica orientate catre pita a inceput sa intre pentru prima data in atentia marilor

Cultural Led Regeneration
Cultural led regeneration (CLR) is the idea that culture can be employed as a driver for urban
economic growth and has become part of the new orthodox by which cities seek to enhance their
competitive position (Paddison and Miles, 2007). Cultural led regeneration became a well known
strategy throughout Europe from the 1980s; the aims of the initiative were to regenerate and
revitalise cities or regions suffering from social and economic problems as a result of
industrialisation, using platforms such as cultural projects, promoting art based events and
encouraging better standard of living .The Tyne and WearRegion is a metropolitan county that

activities such as coal mining and iron ship building and an expanding courtyard due to the ships

aftermath of the Two world wars led to decrease in the primary sector, with the inventions such as
the internet and more sophisticated technology, the world is gradually moving closer to becoming
a service or tertiary industry. This resulted in the region becoming economically depressed leading
to high unemployment rates, poorer quality of life and making the region one of the poorest in
Britain (Middleton and Freestone,2008). According to Pettingher (2012) there has been a decrase in
employment in the coal sector from 1923 1945 there was a 1.2 million drop to 0.8 million till 2010

Should Homework Be Allowed In Schools Essay
Kylie drops her backpack on the floor with a thump, and runs to change her clothes. I m home,
she calls to her mom, grabbing a quick snack before running over to her friend Emily s house next
door. Kylie is an example of many students across the country whose schools have begun to
implement a new policy of no homework. The policy encourages children to spend their free time
with their family. The only homework that a child is given is the material that they did not finish
during class time. This leads to the question. Should elementary schools assign homework to
children? Children in elementary schools should not be assigned homework because children are
now allowed to pursue interests and spend time with their family, homework is often repetitive and
time consuming, and homework can leave stress and burden on both parents and children.
Firstly, children can now pursue other interests and spend quality time with their family. Kids are
the futures of the generation. They need to be able to learn, explore, grow, and have fun instead
of slaving over a pile of homework. Parent Jason Sapan states that, It takes the joy out of kids who
are exceptional, and overwhelms those who are struggling. (New York Times) For decades, the
homework standard was that the maximum amount of homework per grade level was 10 minutes
and it would increase as children graduated a grade. For example, if a child was in 2nd grade, he or
she would receive 20 minutes of homework. But now,

Dreams from My Father Essay
Essay: Dreams From My Father
Barack Obama s Dreams From My Father is exactly what it claims to be by title, a story of race
and identity. Barack Obama comes from a diverse background, which he explores throughout the
book. Having a white American mother and black Kenyan father, he has a different experience
than the majority of people in society when it comes to race and identity, however still it seems
similar to the experience of many blacks as described in William E. Cross s Black Psychological
theory, the Nigresence Model of Racial Identity Development. While Obama s experience does
not necessarily occur in chronological order according to Cross s model, in my opinion, it portrays
a good example of how someone enters each stage of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this stage, it is suggested that an individual sees him or herself as part of the entire human
family, proud to be black, but not limited to blackness. The individual sees people only as people,
not as black people, or white people, etc. Furthermore, one thing that pertains particularly to
Barack, in my opinion, is that individuals in this stage enjoy regular company of a wide array of
people and most importantly fight for a wide array of causes, which are not specific to race.
Getting to this place was a journey for Obama just as it is for all others, in my opinion. My
perception of the encounter, for Barack, was neither horribly negative, nor very positive. He was
simply lost, it seemed. As a young child attending a prestigious school in Hawaii, Barack Obama
was cared for by his white American mother and grandparents, but was a brown child, having
also a black Kenyan father. Barack was an outcast for everyone, being secluded from the whites
because of his look, and having a different outlook than other black students at his school who
held the view that they were oppressed by white people. It was far from sensible that the people
who loved, cared for, and supported him the most could oppress Barack.
Curiosity was inevitable for the boy, however, and led him into what William E. Cross s
Nigresence Model declared was the immersion stage of racial identity for a black person. In this
stage, African Americans basically submerge

What Is The Snapchat-Personal Narrative
When March 5th finally arrived we had a lot of preparations to tend to. We were pretty sure the
Mack s would leave at night, they told Alex they had a family birthday party to go to. Unlike
past Fight Nights no invitations were sent out, everyone was invited. We posted Alex s address
on all forms of social media that morning. I then went to Alex s in the middle of the afternoon to
help him set up for the night. We moved couches, and set up the basement for optimal viewing.
Now all we had to do was wait for the Macks to leave. We hung around the house for the rest of
the day but right around dinner time I left to make it less obvious and met Katie Peters and
Hannah Bouas at subway for dinner. Alex was going to call me whenever his parents left... Show

We expected that the only fight that night would be Chandler vs. Brendan, that was definitely
not the case. Before the main event there were six other fights. We had attracted a lot of the
seniors to Fight Night X and they were definitely down for fighting. These minor fights included,
Alex Mack vs. Zach Diecker, Luke Worley vs. Blake Metcalf, Max Kemper vs. Collin Goveia,
Michael Smith vs. Austin Sweet, Square vs Joe Wolf, Bryce Rutledge vs. Parker McDonald all
leading up to the main event. Will Hogan had been taking cash bets throughout the night and
Brendan was the heavy favorite. (Our event had turned from an underground fight club to an
underground fight club with illegal gambling) Brendan was the favorite due to his size and the
fact that he was getting shipped off to Army basic training in just a few months. But, he was a
wild card, like I stated earlier he was not part of our friend group so we had never seen him fight.
This was unlike Chandler who was a Fight Night veteran with a side of batshit crazy when it came
to wrestling. After a crowd pumping introduction from Joe Wolf the most historic fight in Fight

Asthma Is A Chronic Lung Disease
Asthma, as defined by the NIH, is a chronic lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways.
Asthma causes recurring periods of wheezing (a whistling sound when you breathe), chest
tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing. (National Institutes of Health, National Heart, Lung
and Blood Institute [NHLBI], 2015). There are risk factors that may predispose a child to
developing asthma, which include having allergies, eczema, and/or having parents who have
asthma. Asthma is not a disease that is preventable. (NHLBI, 2015). The risk or likelihood that
someone would have asthma is based on the biological makeup of the individual that would
predispose them to the disease, rather than behavioral, environmental, or even social factors....

(CDC, 2015).
Prevention of asthma is not the focus of interventions since it is not a preventable disease, but rather
the focus is to intervene with the management of the disease. There are some protective factors that
can be employed so that the occurrence of asthma attacks is reduced, or at least, well managed.
Once someone has been identified as having asthma, the goal is to manage it well so that there are
as few asthma attacks as possible. In 2008, the National Asthma Control Initiative (NACI) was
created. The goal of creating the NACI is to have the ability to work with different partners
throughout the community to successfully put asthma guidelines into action beginning with the
home and moving out into the community, which may include schools, health care settings, as well
as other parts of the community. (National Asthma Control Initiative [NACI], 2011). Primary
interventions focus on preventing the disease before it occurs. Because asthma is not a preventable
disease, the evidenced based interventions in place are more representative of interventions at
secondary and tertiary levels than primary. Community health nursing health promotion
interventions for asthma at the secondary level are largely aimed at diagnosing those with asthma
and managing the disease.
The first step of asthma intervention is having it diagnosed. Usually either the primary care
provider diagnoses the

Trans Continental Railroad Research Paper
In the eighteen hundreds a revolutionary idea sprouted in the mind of American s. As communities
began to build in the West so necessities to transport products became a priority. Many traveled and
transported by wagons and horses but even then products weren t delivered soon enough. Many
times tragedy struck many who had to cross the mountain terrain just to arrive at their destination.
Then a thought occurred as Americans got to see the mode of transportation that became all the
rage in Europe, and so America decided to build the transcontinental railroad. From the East and
West many hard working men built the Trans Continental Railroad to meet in the middle at
Promontory, Utah where the final spike was driven into the ground. Now America... Show more

Many of these modes couldn t accommodate the Long distances and slow transportation hampered
contact between eastern and western commercial centers. (Jones). People would have to travel
countless days and night just to make a profit or to start a new life. These ways were dangerous to
travel by and so the Transcontinental Railroad created a more safer and efficient way for people to
get to the places that they wanted to go. There were other benefits that came with the railroad. For
one, the country could create many fortunes that would be made from this first transcontinental
railroad and the other routes that soon followed. (Congress). The proposal of more annual income
from sales piqued many interests. In fact the proposition for the idea came from the New York City
dry goods merchant Asa Whitney (Transcontinental). Eventually companies could rack in money
from both ends of the country. Eventually, the many dollars that were spent on countless days of
work could be replenish and many businesses could make a living by moving their products around.
It was soon that people were making millions just from shipping and By 1880 more than $50
million worth of freight was transported annually from the East Coast to the West Coast along the
transcontinental line. (Transcontinental). Changes were happening and people were making
fortunes off of what had been made. As

The long term misunderstanding and simplification of RIGHT vs. LEFT terminology in political

nationalistic, conservative or religious values is inevitably a step in the direction of the FAR

common appeal to the masses and depend on a collectivist ideology that glorifies abstractions such

Jose Antonio had stepped on too many toes by his justifiable criticism of scandal and corruption

The Psychology Of Eric Reynolds Essay
Eric Reynolds is a fifty six year old African American Vietnam veteran and plumber. He is
presenting symptoms of recurring negative intrusive memories of traumatic moments in combat;
avoidance of triggering factors, such as crowds, sudden movement, and unprovoked or unexpected
touching; negative thoughts and emotions, primarily involuntary aggression and self imposed
isolation; heightened arousal when triggered; insomnia as a result of recurring nightmares;
hypervigilance; and pressured speech when discussing traumatic content but otherwise remained
articulate. These symptom s onset occurred over thirty years prior to his current examination, after
Mr. Reynolds left combat and entered non combat operations within Vietnam. The symptoms
persisted after reintroduction to civilian life and remained chronic. Mr. Reynolds described direct
exposure to trauma by experiencing recurrent threats of death, injury, witnessing the death and
injury of close compatriots. Prior to expressing symptoms or exposure to the traumatic events, Mr.
Reynolds described himself as a happy go lucky, upbeat, and enjoyed activities such as boot camp.
He did not discuss or display pre existing disorders or history of maltreatment or trauma prior to
deployment. There was no discussion or mention of biological or inherited traits relating to trauma,
anxiety, or aggression. Socioculturally however, as an African American man growing up in a

American cinema ever since the conception of motion picture. With its exaggeration and stylization

create a comedic effect for the viewers. Through the annals of time, historical events and cultural
turning points have shaped the genre, allowing it to evolve and diversify. As a result, comedyis now
bolder, more risque, and more provocative. While there are several factors that contributed to this

Dr Faustus Essay
Him, Himself, and Faustus Status and recognition what means an individual is willing to surpass
to achieve those ends is evident in Western society s praise of celebrities and their fame, whilst
trivializing tragic events and those responsible with talking points. For some, it does not matter
how their name is recognized in history or discussed by those who know them, but that their name
is merely spoken of at all. Surely then, a society which rewards individuals for their infamous,
grotesque acts with recognition, and then fails to effectively address the issue at hand, might find
that such incidents occur more and more frequently. The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus (A

This drive is seen time and time again throughout both texts: from conjuring the spirit of
Alexander the Great for Emperor Charles V (4.1.63 4; 4.1.99 101), to producing ripe grapes when
not in season for the Duke of Vanholt and the pregnant Duchess (4.2.12 7; 4.6.19 23). Clearly, this
drive is best demonstrated through Faustus himself when asked by his fellow scholars to summon
Helen of Troy in the B text:
Gentlemen, for that I know your friendship is unfeigned,
It is not Faustus custom to deny
The just request of those that wish him well.
You shall behold that peerless dame of Greece (5.1.18 21). Faustus strong desire to impress others
doubtlessly derives from his fear of being rejected by those of high stature in society; he wishes to
belong with them and not from whence he came. Furthermore, Stephen Orgel notes in Magic and
Power in Doctor Faustus , that although Faustus has unlimited power, he only conjures what is
asked of him, never striving beyond or testing his boundaries, and that this represents two major
flaws within Faustus: an artistic failure of imagination and a scholarly failure of originality (396).
Both failures stem from Faustus only doing what he is told, merely fulfilling what is asked of
him, so that he may, for a while, share their acclaim and status. If Faustus were truly empowered or

Summary Of The Overcoat By Nikolai Gogol
In a time of large, corrupt, and ineffective bureaucracy, Nikolai Gogol looks provide a humorous
perspective on life in Tsarist Russia. Through both The Nose and The Overcoat, Gogol reveals
his true nature as a comical humorist with the intention of giving readers a laugh but also of
mocking human vanity. From the very beginning of The Overcoat, it becomes clear the story
has a comedic nature. While explaining to the reader the touchiness of departments in Russia,
Gogol gives the district police chief as an example: He plainly demonstrated that all the imperial
institutions were going to the dogs, and that the Czar s sacred name was being taken in vain;
and in proof he appended to the complain a romance, in which the district chief of police is
made to appear about once in every ten pages, and sometimes in a downright drunken condition
(Gogol 1). The scenario Gogol describes is one of absurdity. How could someone get so worked
up over a book that has no intent of offending them? No normal person would ever become so
hysterical over a piece of literature that indirectly offends them. Claiming that the whole political
system of Russia is being destroyed and that royalty had been disgraced because of a simple
character in a book that resembles oneself is preposterous. To a rational mind, the police chief s
over emotional reaction is clearly insane, as a normal person does not have the narcissism to take
minute details personally. This laughable situation

Staging Hamlet for a Modern Audience
I do not agree with the comment of Hazlitt: There is no play that suffers so much in being
transferred to the stage Based on performances I have seen and other plays by Shakespeare, I
think this is one of his better plays as it does not stick to guidelines. Although a long play, it has a
depth to it, that, if transferred to the stage well, is transformed from a long and winding scriptto a
fascinating play filled with suspense and the emotions of the characters run high. Hamlet ,
nonetheless is a challenging script and Hamlet himself can either create the play, or destroy it, he is
the key element.

pathophysiology of PCOS appears to be multifactorial and polygenic. (Fox, 2011)

Waivers provide necessary legal protections for speech therapists, but they must be used

health care providers to patients, courts usually find waivers of liability in the medical context
unenforceable as a matter or public policy . The article also argues that waivers of liability
undermine the relationship of trust that is essential to the patient practitioner relationship by
placing the professional s interest above the best interest of the patient (pg. 15) . This is in direct

Summary Of Legalizing All Drugs
The main goal of this article is to provide the moral and economical arguments for legalizing all
drugs in the United States. The article begins by suggesting there is a cultural shift moving
throughout the United States regarding the use of marijuana however, also reveals that the majority
of people still do not support legalization of harder drugs such as heroin or cocaine. The author
cites two polls which compare the 58 percent of Americans that support marijuana legalization to
the only 10 percent that favor legalization of heroin or cocaine. The author then proceeds to explain
that if the ultimate goal is to minimize harm to users of drugs, then the right approach is to legalize
them all. The article contains statistics for the amount... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Miron is the Senior Lecturer and Director of Undergraduate Studies at Harvard University as

current jobs and positions at these prestigious schools proves that he is credible. Miron s main

just trying to advocate for recreational use of drugs. Although Miron is a clear advocate for the
legalization of all drugs, he backs up all his claims with evidence and is clearly well researched
about this issue. This article was written in 2014 and has appeared on both Cato Institute s

also provided the death statistics of people who have overdosed on currently illegal drugs.
Although many of these deaths are because of the current war on drugs, the information would
ensure that people understand the possible dangers that come with legalization. This is, without a
doubt, a credible source as it was written by a well researched individual who is one of the few
people voicing the truth about the failure of prohibition in this country. It is hard to challenge the
current drug policies especially when the majority of people do not support your proposed changes,
however, the author did an excellent job of offering an alternative opinion with the support of

Chotacredit Case Study Essay
Background: For years since the rise of microfinance in the contemporary discourse of development,
Chotacredit, a nationwide Microfinance institution, has been playing a leading role in the XXX
region in providing accessible finance to low income households as a catalyst for employment
creation, poverty reduction, and genderequality. However, in recent practice, Chotacredit has found

Finding Yourself for Another in Ethan Frome, by Edith Wharton
Many times in people s lives they are faced with big decisions that revolve around two ideas of
success, following the rules and securing their future within their society, or going outside their
comfort zone to purse their dreams. In Ethan Frome, by Edith Wharton, Ethan wants to have a
secure future in his town but desires a more intellectual profession and passionate spouse. There is
a sense of stability in having a reliable job, likeability, and a perception by other as well off. In
Ethan Fromethis is expressed: After his father s death it had taken time to get his head above
water, and he did not want Andrew Hale or, anyone else in Starkfeild, to think he was going under
again . (Wharton 40)
Although these features of society are consolatory, it must be realized that first and foremost
should come the discovery of one s self and what will ultimately make them happy. An individual
s career struggles tend to depend on this decision. They must choose between a safe job at a desk
with acceptance by government benefits and local society, or chase their passion without any
support. The decision for security is often to be part of a prestigious company that is praised by
society, or in Ethan s case, a man sticking to his family business in the eyes of a small town.
However this sense of security is often a fabrication. The job presents itself as protected and
reliable, which most people long for, but in that context the security is for the job itself rather than

Carter Style Essay
The writings of Angela Carter are those like none other, in the way of style, themes, symbols and
motifs. The stories written by Carter are not those of cheerfulness and happy endings, they are
different in a most spectacular way. Carter s fairy tales are a frightening look at the true reality or
what fairy talesreally are. AngelaCarter has written many of these tales in a much more deep and
complex manner. Each tale of hers has its own style, themes symbols and motifs yet she does show
some similarities in each of her works.
From Angela Carter, The Tiger s Bride, in The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories (New York:

Belle is offered the choice to either to strip of her clothing for the beast to do what he pleases
with her and be set free afterward, or not to and stay there in his broken down castle until the end
of her days. This is a very difficult choice for Belle for she is the purest of women, and has much
difficulty in doing this. She is also afraid for her life, believing the beast will eat her if she does
decide to show herself to him. If she should decide not to reveal herself, the beast would then
reveal himself to her, in which she was also terrified of what she might see. After she tries to put
herself through the unthinkable and failing, the beast and his valet take belle on a ride through
the forest where they stop and talk a while. In this setting of the story, the beast reveals himself
to Belle and shows his real self and earns the respect of Belle. After she realized the courage and
trust the beast had shown to her, she decides that it is only right to do the same for him. When
she appears in front of the beast unclothed, the Tiger crept up and licked the skin off of the young
girl and revealed her long fur, as she also was a beast.

Rikki Tiki Theme Analysis
Rikki Tikki Tavi Theme is the thoughts, or an exhibition on a story or piece of writing. My
central idea for the theme of Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rydyard Kipling is blind loyalty. I am positive
that loyalty is one of the superlative themes of this story because throughout the story, both the
protagonist and antagonist show loyalty. Rikki Tikki, the protagonist, shows his loyalty to the
human family, his own family, and Darzee by protecting them from the immoral Naginia. Another
correct theme could be bravery. The story emphasized the courage of Rikki and contrasted that
with the cowardly behavior of Chuchundra the muskrat. Rikki reveals his loyalty to Darzee after
he acknowledges that Nag had eaten one of Darzee s children who had fallen

Hurst to the point where the work is even titled to represent one use of symbolism present in the

scattered throughout the entire text. One extremely common form of symbolism seen across
various works of literature is present within this story: the weather. This form of symbolism is
introduced when the work states, After a long silence, Daddy spoke. It s so calm, I wouldn t be

Cash also demonstrates numerous shifts in both the tone and the mood of her work related to
the events highlighted in the memories she recalls within her work. In the beginning of the
piece, Cash quickly presents this statement to the reader: I ate my way through a new bag each
day, tossing the peels in the flames as I rocked. The bitter, wild aroma of singed oranges cut into
the somber iciness of the room, and soothed me. It was my personal statement against the chill.
(Cash online). Through the use of words such as singed, somber, and iciness, the author of the
piece manipulates the reader to feel the somber atmosphere and the slightly melancholy aura
present in the room. By placing this statement within the very first paragraph of the memoir,
Cash very quickly developed a certain feeling within the reader that, in a way, foreshadowed the
mood of the events to come. Within a short couple of paragraphs, the author completely shifted
the tone and mood. This shift can be see when suddenly this statement is placed in the piece: But

of the piece at that point reflects the alteration. The reader goes from feeling somewhat dejected to
feeling much more cheerful and uplifted by the change in word choice to phrases such as
wonderful and ripe little goddess. As more time progresses in the piece, the author once again
manipulates the reader to experience a drastic change in feeling. The tone shifts again when the next

The Wanderer And The Wife s Lament
For the Anglo Saxons, the world was a wind swept place, cold and hostile. Not only did they face
the constant threat of belligerent bands of warriors sweeping across the horizon, but the elements
themselves buffeted their homes and wore away the hulls of their ships. While temporary safety
could be found in the warmth of the mead hall and the companionship of others, the devastation of
war, disease, and time would slowly etch away at even the most stable and peaceful society. This
unease spurred Anglo Saxon poets to write some of their most beautiful, haunting pieces of verse,
like Hrothgar s Sermon from Beowulf and the Elegies. While the poems The Wanderer and The
Wife s Lament chronicle the suffering and eventual demise of the individual, The Ruin describes
the crumbling remains of a once glorious city. Through the extensive use of imagery, compelling
rhythm, and a stately meter, the poet of The Ruin emphasizes the themes of death, decay, and the
inevitable downfall of mighty civilizations messages further underscored by the loss of major
sections of the poem itself. The poet begins with the foundation of the city walls, all that remains of
a mighty structure which had ...seen one kingdom after another / stood in the storm, steep and tall,
then tumbled (The Ruin poet 10b 11). However, the destruction of this city is not due to these many
regimes or human combatants, but by the forces of nature as commanded by wyrd. Significantly,

My Experience On My Cultural Experience In Italy
While on this trip to Italy there were many different cultural experiences, that were very
impactful and taught me new things, but for this essay I will only be focusing on one that stood
out the most. This specific experience was the weekend we had the opportunity to explore
Venice. This was the first time during this trip that we had to figure everything out completely on
our own, from navigating public transportation to figuring out what to explore. We did not
experience as much of these problem solving experiences when in Reggio Emilia since we were
spending most of our time in the international center and were provide with resource from our
peers and the individuals working with us to find things to do during the evening. Throughout this
essay I will describe how this experience benefited me even when I was struggling to understand
or find out where I was. As well as how it impacted my cultural frame and perspective of Italian
culture. When it came to the experience there were many different struggles that we face and that
is why it was the one that stood out to me the most. The first struggle we faced was not being
able to find anywhere to get food the first day we got their since everything was closed. We
walked around for about twenty minutes that day until we were able to find a little food cart and
order some food. While on this trip as a whole I learned very quickly that a large majority of

Triple Entente Outline
The First World War began in the summer of 1914 and lasted until the end of November 1918. It
is the result of long standing tensions between the European powers. It ended with the defeat of the
Central Powers and cost about 17 million lives.
In the First World War the Triple Entente and the Central Powers had to face each other. The Triple
Entente is a military alliance between France, England and Russia. This developed from the
Entente cordiale (cordial agreement), which was an alliance between England and France. In
addition to colonial questions, the power of the German Empire, which sought a world power
policy under the program of the New Course under Wilhelm II, was also to be restricted. Above
all, the United Kingdom saw its role as a naval power endangered by the naval construction
program. Later in 1917 the United States entered the war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

result, hunger was felt in Germany in the winter season of 1916/17. In Russia, the poor supply

this government also held fast to the war and did not care about the needs of the people. In

Customary Law and the Status of Indigenous Australian s Essay
It is important to always show respect towards the indigenous, acknowledge their laws, their
practices and their customs further paying respects to the original custodians of the land. This
however does not mean that recognition of aboriginal customary law is essential to improving the
status (social position) of indigenous Australians; on the contrary it poses more problems than
solutions. Although law is seen as the fabric of existence and intrinsic to living, it is impossible to
judge one legal system in terms of another. As such, while there are many positive aspects of
aboriginal customary law, which is merely just different and in no means (worse) or (better) than
English common law, its enforcement is not essential to improving the... Show more content on

Moreover, the ability to determine which laws are in affect with which Indigenous and non
indigenous Australian s becomes limited and the issue falls to public disapproval. Due to the
unwritten nature of aboriginal customary law confusion would arise as to who must/can abide by
certain customary laws and punishments for those who disobey. An injustice would then occur
when distinguishing which indigenous Australian s receive the blanket of customary law and
whether or not it extends to half casts and if so, to whom does it extend. This general confusion
would create not only laws that are un easy to follow but would also create many general
misinterpretations of the law and could lead to further racism attitudes. Said racism attitudes would
ignite when scrutiny over punishments and who receives them arises while people strive for
equality and argue over the degree of fairness received. This scrutiny not only hinders the status of
indigenous Australian s rather than improving it, but can also lead to future hostilities and class
/status debates again creating the possibility of a negative impact.
There are various other remedies that could be implemented in order to improve the status of
Indigenous Australia s especially with the flexible common law structure, some of which have

What Are The Similarities Between The Colour Purple And...
The Bluest Eye V.S The Color Purple
In my essay, I ll be comparing and contrasting Pecola from novel The Bluest Eye , and Celie from
the movie The Color Purple . In the novel, The Bluest Eye , Pecola, and from the movie The
Color Purple , Celie, share many similarities in their stories. But they also have many differences
that make them who they are. They re both very young girls, going through a lot of struggles
that you really wouldn t be able to imagine happening, yet at the same time you can even
compare it to yourself. To start off, I d like to make a few comparisons about Pecola and Celie.
Things that are similar between the two characters is their lives. Pecola and Celie are both very
young girls. Between the ages of 11 15. They go through things that no child, nor anyone should
go through. Like their beauty, or their sexual innocence. Not only that, they re similar into how
they see themselves, and what they go through with their family. But at some points, Celie also
shares a similarity to Geraldine. A black woman who lives like a white woman. For example,
getting married to do house work, and to please the man. Both Celie and Geraldine don t feel
any type of love towards their supposed significant other, but to another living thing. For
Geraldine, its her black pet cat, and for Celie, it s her little sister, Netty The loss of innocence is
what both characters share. Pecola, while at home doing house work, her father Cholly,
stumbles in drunk. For a while, he stands there and looks at Pecola. Imagining her as a younger
version of Pauline, Pecola s mother and Chollys wife. As Pecola s cleaning, Cholly makes a
move on her. Though it s not the first time he tried something like this to Pecola, he did succeed.
Right in the kitchen is where Pecola is raped by Cholly, taking away her innocence and leaving
her pregnant. But she loses the baby. Just like Celie. Celie, after her mother s death, is left with her
younger sister and father. Being the big sister, she does everything in her power to protect younger
sibling, such as protecting her from their father sexually assaulting her. Celie, after getting raped by
her father, gets pregnant, twice. She loses both babies.

Argumentative Essay Boxing
Boxing a violent cage fight, or a crowd pleasing sport? Boxing is a high intensified sport that can
be seen as helping the fighter in life or permanently damaging the fighters future. Many say that
boxing is one of the safest sports; however, boxing can leave permanent brain damage from constant
punches to the skull. The sport boxingis for managers to earn money while their fighter is in the
ring fighting against another human until one gives up, or gets knocked out. A fight could be
the end of one s career, or even one s life. Boxing should be banned because the money earned
does not trump the risk of death, the mixed messages from fighters in the ring confuse the laws
regarding assault, and the constant punches to and athletes head leaves permanent damage. The
death of one is not worth the money earned from winning a fight. This is important to realize
because the expense of one s life is worth way more than the winnings of a cage fight. In On
Boxing, Joyce asserts directly why she thinks boxing is not a humanized sport: In the boxing
ring, even in our greatly humanized times, death is always a possibility which is why some of
us prefer to watch films or tapes of fights already past, already defined as history (source c). Joyce
is stating that many watch tapes from the past when boxing first started because it was much safer
then, than it is now. Also in On Boxing, Carol states directly her opinion for the sport boxing: In no

The Y2k Catastrophe And Its Effects On Society
The Y2K Catastrophe
In The midst of a rising industrial climate, the 1990s was a time for change and expansion. On
December thirty first, 1999 nearly every developed nation in the world anticipated the oncoming
new millennium. After strike of midnight, January first, 2000 a forecasted event would take place,
and many in the world were anxious to comprehend the supposed inevitable. The occurrence of the
Y2K scare changed the way the world revolves around technology during the time period, which
has lasting residual effects on society.
The fear that drove society and a complete farce was the idea that everything on which the modern
world relied would simply come to a halt at the turn of the century. This contemporary concern of
the time over technology caused an alarming dissonance between people s daily realities and the
threat of an impending apocalyptic future.
At the height of computer development, for convenience purposes, digital programmers used two
digit codes in place of the years. For example, instead of writing 1986, computer engineers simply
dated programs with 86, the 19 was left out purposefully. Engineers compressed data usage to save
storage, which at the time was very costly and took up unnecessary space. Eventually these
programmers realized that once the year 2000 comes around then, the dates would revert to 00
which computers will assume to be 1900. A simple date change to humans would equal a major
blunder to a computer. This glitch held the

Analysis Of The Article Culture And Society
This week s materials seem to give me a huge hit. They give me headache for sure, but they also
enlighten me. Of the three materials, the one I like the most is the one entitled Culture is
ordinary. I really enjoy reading this article. For me, it is like reading a journal or personal
experience. It feels so intimate, especially the experience shared. Compared to the other pieces,
the book Culture and Society or the article the Analysis of Culture, this particular article offers a
different impression. True, the shortness of the article first grabbed my attention. However, it
does not necessarily mean that it does not provide a poignant information. On the contrary, it
gives me a more contextual and personal information about what culture is. In addition, this
article reminds me of my own cultural experience. The title of the article, Culture is ordinary,
somewhat brings me the message that one does not need to travel far just to find out what
culture is because as emphasized by Williams we can easily find out culture from where they
live; from the common thing in life, straight from your own door. For me, the way Williams
begins his discussion by giving the readers the description of his hometown (trip) is apt to give a
sense that culture is ordinary; that culture is not something unreachable or unseen, for it is here,
around us. The introduction also serves to reinforce how ordinary and simple culture is that it is
drawn from the everyday life. The bus route is

was an immigrant from Galicia, Spain. His mother, Lina Ruz GonzГЎlez, was ГЃngel s mistress
and house servant while ГЃngel was still married to Maria Luisa Argota. Castro was educated in
many Jesuit boarding schools, from grade school to middle school, in which he was a mediocre
student and was not well behaved, only focusing on playing sports. Although Castro attended a
religious boarding school, it did not affect him in any way and was still getting into trouble as a
young child. After Castro graduated from high school he studied law at the University of Havana.
In his classes, he became very fond of anti imperialism, socialism, and the political climate of
Cuban nationalism, which had helped him while in power. On February 16,1959, Fidel Alejandro
Ruz Castro was sworn in as Prime Minister of Cuba. Castro secretly started to turn to
Communism. He wanted to nationalize plantations and factories. The U.S. is known for its strong
opinion on democracy, so when the U.S. heard this, it caused lots of friction between Cuba and
the U.S. so Castro denied that he wanted to control Cuba as a communist. Castro then signed the
First Agrarian Reform Law, which prohibited foreigners from owning land in Cuba while also
only allowing 993 acres of land per citizen. Castro was then trying to develop

Dbq Loyalists Essay
Loyalists In between 1760 and 1800, conflict ensued between Great Britain and the American
colonies, now the United States. Because of certain events and documents, those who had not
chosen a side would have benefitted more if indecisive individuals become loyal to the British
crown. Those who obeyed to Great Britain were known as loyalists, or, according to the DBQ
Theme assignment, Tories. The unsure colonists would benefit more if converting to loyalists
because of Great Britain s power and strength, economic superiority, and that the patriots are of
barbaric and violent nature. Also, the patriots were not ready to start a revolution even though they
believed the opposite. Great Britain was a powerful and strong nation during the... Show more

Document 4 includes a majority of facts relating to the economic advantage that Great Britain
has. Two decent examples that Document 4 gives are, Value of the dollar dropped throughout the
war, and, Dollar lost 90% of its value by 1779. The dollar that is being referred to is the
Continental Dollar. Furthermore, at around 1781, it can be inferred that the Continental Dollar
completely lost its value as Document 4 states, By 1781 only hard money (gold, silver) used in
U.S. markets. Great Britain, however, has a more stable economy without needing to resort to
metals, and with what Document 4 includes, Well established system of taxation and finance. This
compares to the loss of value throughout the Revolutionary War. Britain exercises its economic
strength by, from what the article states, Britain spent 4.5 million pounds on Hessians alone (Doc
4). Almost 5 million pounds in the 1770s is still a lot of money compared to modern day Britain s
economy. Britain, with the evidence of hiring Hessians, is able to financially support an army
unlike the United States where a document confirms, ...but most are wretchedly clothed... (Doc 5).
The colonies have a more inferior economy based off of the history of events and documented

Mesovortex Synthesis
Potential connections exist between total lightning and mesovortex formation, which is the parent
circulation from which QLCS tornadoes are born. Many studies have found that
mesovortexgenesis is initiated at low levels by tilting, in downdrafts, of crosswise baroclinic
horizontal vorticity (Trapp and Weisman 2003 Part II, Wheatley and Trapp 2008, Atkins and St.
Laurent 2009 Part II). Additional studies have found that strong low level updraft is critical in
converging and amplifying vertical vorticity associated with the mesovortex (Schenkman et al.
2012, Atkins and St. Laurent 2009). Trapp and Weisman (2003 Part I) also found that the amount of
windshear had large implications on mesovortexgenesis. As wind shear increased in both magnitude

The total lightning information can give important insight to the updraft and downdraft processes
within the QLCS. The region with the largest lightning flash rates is related to a stronger mid level
updraft, and a lightning jump (or multiple lightning jumps) occur in response to a rapid
intensification of updraft strength. This mid level updraft can assist in mesovortexgenesis in two
ways. First, if a low level mesovortex is present in the presence of strong vertical wind shear, this
strong mid level updraft could potentially act to stretch the vertical vorticity, thereby strengthening
the mesovortex. Secondly, this strong mid level updraft can ultimately produce more and larger
precipitation, which in turn contributes

Chemical Reaction Essay
There are also some elements that are not a part of any type of family. These elements are mostly
other metals that are located right after the transition metals. There are some nonmetals that are
included in this group. Some of these nonmetals include silicon, nitrogen, carbon, and phosphorus.
All elements in this group are some what reactive. Nitrogen is the most common element.
Compounds using nitrogen consist of silver nitrate, potassium nitrate, and nitric oxide. Silver
nitrate is used in many different chemistry labs.
Oxygen group is the next group found along the periodic table. This group is number 16 which
contains the elements oxygen, sulfur, selenium, tellurium and polonium. The electron configuration
of this group is s2p4. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason that they are the most reactive elements is because they have seven valence electrons,
and they easily can gain one from multiple other elements to form a compound. Stability is met
when an element has eight electrons in their valence shell, so they easily can bond with other
elements. Fluorine, the element with the highest electronegativity on the periodic table, is the most
reactive element on the periodic table. The most reactiveness goes from the lowest to the highest in
the Halogen Family. Compounds found within the halogen group consist of hydrogen fluoride,
sodium chloride, potassium iodide, hydrogen bromide, and and silver chloride.
Noble gases make up group 18 in the periodic table. These are the elements that make up the
noble gases: Helium, Neon, Argon, Krypton, Xenon, and Radon. Noble gases reactivity is very
low because they have no valence electron to give or share with other elements. Noble gases can
be described as odorless, colorless gases. Noble gases are stable because they have eight
electrons and fill up their outer shell. The intricate chemical details behind the reaction would
take years to clarify and the formula of the colorful solid was later modified as [XeF]+[PtF5]
(www.acs.org). This compound was the very first compound form by using a noble gas. It was
said before this discovery that the noble gases could and would never form a chemical compound.
The significance of the experiment remained clear Today

Labour Movement During The Gilded Age
On March 4th, 1933 one of the most successful and influential individuals in history took
presidential office in the United States of America. Franklin Delano Roosevelt stands with Abraham
Lincoln as a founder of the modern American nation. President Roosevelt took office immediately
after the what was arguably the worst financial collapse in history coined, The Great Depression.
With astronomical levels of unemployment and extreme poverty, FDR s New Dealpolicy was
established to restore production and stability. He promised change and allowed for a Democratic
union to form. During the Great Depression, the labor movement experienced exponential growth
and tremendously favorable influence; the federal government passed legislation legally... Show

Fortified by increasing government support, employers made it clear that they would do
everything possible to destroy the labor movement. With all odds against them, labor activists
during the Gilded Age were limited to what they accomplish. During the Gilded Age, not only
were labor activists not backed by the federal government as they were during The Great
Depression, the government actively ostracized individuals who participated. During the Gilded
Age ...large industrial and financial institutions secured ever greater economic and political
power, ordinary Americans of all ethnic backgrounds found themselves increasingly subject to
forces beyond their control. Individuals did not have an efficient means of communication; they
were unable to talk to co workers due to language barriers that the employers put forth. The radio
gained popularity during The Great Depression, and almost every single household in American
had one. Amid the Gilded Age, individuals simply did not have FDR s fireside chats in which he
explained in his programs to the public, using easily digestible anecdotes. FDR was able to gain
the trust of millions of individuals and allowed them to band together and form a collective voice.
The fellowship and promise of change that FDR instilled in individuals during the 1930s are mainly
why the labor movement was so extraordinary. Workers were lost and needed a trusting leader to
unite them all against the tyrannical corporations. Arguably, FDR is one of the reasons why the
labor movement was thriving during his

Machiavelli Characteristics
Machiavelli lived in Italy, in the 1400 s. Italy was divided into city states and every state had its
own leader, but everyone also was ruled under a king. Machiavelli wrote this book, The Prince,
in order to help a leader how to lead. It was very important at that time that a leader was strong in
order to develop and move forward with his rule and empire. Machiavelli created this theory in
order to help these leaders control their society powerfully. He tries to represent the perfect leader
and his ways on how to rule. Machiavelli thinks mainly that man by his nature is evil. That s why
people only pursue their own self interest. That s why a ruler should be feared than loved according
to Machiavelli.

New principalities are principalities that have just been created and it is not hereditary, the ruler

principal, which is the principality that a ruler inherits from father to son. Machiavelli stated on
how to rule the different principalities and what challenges going to happen to the ruler in each
case. The hereditary leaders have an easier time than new princes because the people are already
used to their hereditary leaders, accept their power, and they have an idea already on how they

Marijuana: Just a plant
What proves that marijuana is the threat the media, and government depict it to be towards
society? Should it be considered a threat, or is it simply a plant that aids the distressed?
Marijuana has positively benefited the lives of many, so considering it harmful without being
properly informed is unreasonable. Throughout the years a remarkable amount of research has
been done to determine the risk and effects of marijuana. From the majority of research, it was
determined marijuana is safe. Marijuana is safe to smoke because the dangers are exaggerated,

Enterococcus Faecalis In 1899, Thiercelin found a new gram positive diplococcus that he named
enterocoque, suggesting that he believed that this bacterium had something to do with the
intestines. He also described finding this bacterium in patients who had enteritis, appendicitis and
meningitis (Murray). In 1906, Andrewes and Hoarder isolated this same bacterium from a patient
suffering from endocarditis and they also discovered a relationship with urinary tract infections.
They named it Streptococcus faecalis, again because of similarities to the human intestinal tract
(Murray). Other early 20th century instances of infection where S. faecalis has been associated but
not known to be definitively causative include wound infections after World War I, osteomyelitis,...

The Shawl Analysis
In The Shawl , Cynthia Ozick uses vivid details throughout the story to engage the reader. The
story portrays the hard times Jews had during the Holocaust in a concentration camp consisting of
three main characters: Rosa, Stella, and Magda who are trying to survive the horror of Nazism
through a magical shawl. Rosa is the mother of Magda, a fifteen month baby and the aunt of Stella,
a fourteen year old girl. The shawl is the only thing keeping them alive throughout the story and at
the end it leads them to their death. The author s use of symbolism is very significant to the story.
Cynthia Ozickuse of symbolism helps the reader visualize the setting by using symbols to convey
different meanings and understand how these symbols characterize the experience of the holocaust
survivors.
First, let s start off with the central symbol Ozick uses, the shawl. The shawl itself carries various
meanings to the reader and symbolizes something different to each character. Rosa, Stella and
Magda form a group on the basis of their shared illusion concerning the magic shawl (Gordon
322). One of the first symbols the shawl delivers is life and death. This magical shawl has
nourished Magda for three days and three nights due to Rosa not being able to produce milk for
her. In the story it says The shawl was Magda s own baby, her pet, her little sister. (Ozick 248)
which tells us that the shawl has become Magda s life. The shawl somehow seems to feed her,
protect her and keep her alive. For Magda, this shawl has become everything: mother, food,
clothing, and shelter. (Gordon 322). Even though the shawl in some way kept Magda alive and it
symbolized her life, unfortunately at the end it became the symbol of her death. Even though the
shawl did not literally wrap her in death, the shawl that nourished her and protected her in life was
the same cloth that brought about her death says (Jones 1) Stella started getting cold and took the
shawl away from Magda which became the reason of Magda s death. She then started howling
after noticing she didn t have her shawl which made a Nazi officer notice her existence and caused
her death.
Not only does the shawl have a massive meaning in Magda s life but it also symbolizes a

Sociological Aspects Of Social Psychology
Social Psychology
According to Gordon Allport , social psychology is an attempt to understand and explain how the
thought, feeling, and behavior of individuals is influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied
presence of others. (Allport, 1954)
There are two differing branches when referring to social psychology:
1. The sociological aspect of social psychology, which was mainly developed in Europe as a
subdivision of sociology.
2. The psychological aspect of social psychology, which was developed in the US
The differences between the two divisions are, that the sociological way of viewing social
psychology focusses more on group interaction, group processes, while the psychological aspects
of social psychology focusses more on the individual and how the individual is influenced and/or
behaves in social settings.
Sociological social psychology is very theory intensive and constructs itself out of
geisteswissenschaften (sciences of the spirit) and social sciences. Corresponding approaches are i.e.
critical theories, which also include psychoanalytical ideas. Some of the more notable sociological
psychologists include Sigmund Freud, Erich Fromm and Wilhelm Reich.
Coming back to the psychological branch of social psychology, we see its intentions lies in an
attempt to understand and explain how the thought, feelings and behavior of individuals are
influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others (Allport, The Person in
Psychology, 1968) Quantitative

Self-Regulation Accreditation
Fourth, a self regulation accreditation system benefits higher education and the public because it
uses a more adequate measure of quality. The traditional accreditation process focuses on quality
and institutional improvement while a government accreditation system would focus on
compliance and economically driven measures of quality. Often these approaches have conflicting
purposes and outcomes. As Wolff stated, When accreditation is seen primarily as a compliance
driven exercise to demonstrate the achievement of minimum standards and no more, it becomes
like a trip to the dentist: a necessary task but one that should take as little time and cause as little
pain as possible (p. 87). Thus, rather than raising academic quality, institutions under a government
accrediting system would have little incentive to exceed established standards or focus on
continuous improvement efforts, negatively impacting the value of a collegedegree.
Additionally, a government accrediting system that focuses on economically driven measures of
value would provide an incomplete picture of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Zumeta (2005) reported, the decline in degree completion rates is, in part, due to institutions
enrolling more disadvantaged students; however, elite institutions have higher graduation rates.
Thus, the surest route to success is to reduce the risk profile of the students admitted (p. 50).
Because retention and graduation rates are significantly influenced by the characteristics of the
students they admit, institutions would be forced to admit fewer disadvantaged students in order to
meet accreditation standards. Rather than increasing diversity on college campuses, such actions
would likely further stratify student bodies socioeconomically across these different types of
schools (p. 50). This has far reaching implications for higher

Eventually, Dimmesdale intervenes claiming that the child will be Hester s salvation. The men

  • 2. Rudolf Lab The Theorist, The Theory And The Context Part 1: The theorist, The Theory and The Context Rudolf Laban, a brilliant acting theorist, inspires many individuals, groups of actors and performers all over the world to this day. His progressive acting theories mold an individual into a character effortlessly and effectively. Although his ideas were not always appreciated, his critics only pushed him to better his techniques. Rudolf Laban was born on December 15th, 1879, in Bratislava, which used to be part of the Austro Hungarian Empire. His Father, a highly decorated Officer in the Army, hoped that Rudolf would follow in his footsteps; however, Rudolf found himself intrigued with the complexity of the arts. He studied art and acting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rudolf Laban died at the age of 78 on July 1st 1998, in the United Kingdom. Furthermore, Rudolf Laban s theories focus primarily on movement. His movements are specific to what the actor intends on portraying. Not only so, but the movement of the actor would in turn directly reflect the character s personality. He believed every movement performed displayed a greater purpose to internally reflect on one s character. Thus, His movement theories help an actor to bring out the individuality of each character portrayed in a performance or dance. Part 2: Practical Explorations and Development of the Solo Theatre Piece For this solo piece, I chose to incorporate Laban s theories into an interpretive dance. I display, not two different characters movements, but one character s movements as he/she develops, learns, and grows throughout his/her lifetime. To do so, I will use shadows in the background to interact with the character in order to allow the audience to better comprehend my actions and movements throughout the song. As the actor, I conform to the story line and the character I am portraying by my movements and interactions with the shadows projected onto the backdrop of the stage. As I prepared for this performance, I found it difficult to incorporate the movement patterns of two characters, due to the fact that it is specifically a solo piece rather than a duet or ... • 4. Cultural Led Regeneration Cultural led regeneration (CLR) is the idea that culture can be employed as a driver for urban economic growth and has become part of the new orthodox by which cities seek to enhance their competitive position (Paddison and Miles, 2007). Cultural led regeneration became a well known strategy throughout Europe from the 1980s; the aims of the initiative were to regenerate and revitalise cities or regions suffering from social and economic problems as a result of industrialisation, using platforms such as cultural projects, promoting art based events and encouraging better standard of living .The Tyne and WearRegion is a metropolitan county that consists of five metropolitan boroughs, which are, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and the... Prior to the initiative of the CLR programme the Tyne and Wear to be precise Newcastle Upon Tyne was recovering from deindustrialization, as it was a very prominent site for more primary sector activities such as coal mining and iron ship building and an expanding courtyard due to the ships production in the 19th century this has made it a prosperous city (Hudson,1989). However, an aftermath of the Two world wars led to decrease in the primary sector, with the inventions such as the internet and more sophisticated technology, the world is gradually moving closer to becoming a service or tertiary industry. This resulted in the region becoming economically depressed leading to high unemployment rates, poorer quality of life and making the region one of the poorest in Britain (Middleton and Freestone,2008). According to Pettingher (2012) there has been a decrase in employment in the coal sector from 1923 1945 there was a 1.2 million drop to 0.8 million till 2010 wherby the employment in the industry fell to 6,000. This led to an increase in Unemplyment.Nonetheless, with the introduction of the CLR iniciative and the NewcastleGateshead Iniviatove in 2000 there have changes in the employment rates. • 5. Should Homework Be Allowed In Schools Essay Kylie drops her backpack on the floor with a thump, and runs to change her clothes. I m home, she calls to her mom, grabbing a quick snack before running over to her friend Emily s house next door. Kylie is an example of many students across the country whose schools have begun to implement a new policy of no homework. The policy encourages children to spend their free time with their family. The only homework that a child is given is the material that they did not finish during class time. This leads to the question. Should elementary schools assign homework to children? Children in elementary schools should not be assigned homework because children are now allowed to pursue interests and spend time with their family, homework is often repetitive and time consuming, and homework can leave stress and burden on both parents and children. Firstly, children can now pursue other interests and spend quality time with their family. Kids are the futures of the generation. They need to be able to learn, explore, grow, and have fun instead of slaving over a pile of homework. Parent Jason Sapan states that, It takes the joy out of kids who are exceptional, and overwhelms those who are struggling. (New York Times) For decades, the homework standard was that the maximum amount of homework per grade level was 10 minutes and it would increase as children graduated a grade. For example, if a child was in 2nd grade, he or she would receive 20 minutes of homework. But now, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Dreams from My Father Essay Essay: Dreams From My Father Barack Obama s Dreams From My Father is exactly what it claims to be by title, a story of race and identity. Barack Obama comes from a diverse background, which he explores throughout the book. Having a white American mother and black Kenyan father, he has a different experience than the majority of people in society when it comes to race and identity, however still it seems similar to the experience of many blacks as described in William E. Cross s Black Psychological theory, the Nigresence Model of Racial Identity Development. While Obama s experience does not necessarily occur in chronological order according to Cross s model, in my opinion, it portrays a good example of how someone enters each stage of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this stage, it is suggested that an individual sees him or herself as part of the entire human family, proud to be black, but not limited to blackness. The individual sees people only as people, not as black people, or white people, etc. Furthermore, one thing that pertains particularly to Barack, in my opinion, is that individuals in this stage enjoy regular company of a wide array of people and most importantly fight for a wide array of causes, which are not specific to race. Getting to this place was a journey for Obama just as it is for all others, in my opinion. My perception of the encounter, for Barack, was neither horribly negative, nor very positive. He was simply lost, it seemed. As a young child attending a prestigious school in Hawaii, Barack Obama was cared for by his white American mother and grandparents, but was a brown child, having also a black Kenyan father. Barack was an outcast for everyone, being secluded from the whites because of his look, and having a different outlook than other black students at his school who held the view that they were oppressed by white people. It was far from sensible that the people who loved, cared for, and supported him the most could oppress Barack. Curiosity was inevitable for the boy, however, and led him into what William E. Cross s Nigresence Model declared was the immersion stage of racial identity for a black person. In this stage, African Americans basically submerge ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. What Is The Snapchat-Personal Narrative When March 5th finally arrived we had a lot of preparations to tend to. We were pretty sure the Mack s would leave at night, they told Alex they had a family birthday party to go to. Unlike past Fight Nights no invitations were sent out, everyone was invited. We posted Alex s address on all forms of social media that morning. I then went to Alex s in the middle of the afternoon to help him set up for the night. We moved couches, and set up the basement for optimal viewing. Now all we had to do was wait for the Macks to leave. Alex was going to call me whenever his parents left... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We expected that the only fight that night would be Chandler vs. Brendan, that was definitely not the case. Before the main event there were six other fights. We had attracted a lot of the seniors to Fight Night X and they were definitely down for fighting. These minor fights included, Alex Mack vs. Zach Diecker, Luke Worley vs. Blake Metcalf, Max Kemper vs. Collin Goveia, Michael Smith vs. Austin Sweet, Square vs Joe Wolf, Bryce Rutledge vs. Parker McDonald all leading up to the main event. Will Hogan had been taking cash bets throughout the night and Brendan was the heavy favorite. (Our event had turned from an underground fight club to an underground fight club with illegal gambling) Brendan was the favorite due to his size and the fact that he was getting shipped off to Army basic training in just a few months. But, he was a wild card, like I stated earlier he was not part of our friend group so we had never seen him fight. This was unlike Chandler who was a Fight Night veteran with a side of batshit crazy when it came to wrestling. Asthma causes recurring periods of wheezing (a whistling sound when you breathe), chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing. (National Institutes of Health, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute [NHLBI], 2015). There are risk factors that may predispose a child to developing asthma, which include having allergies, eczema, and/or having parents who have asthma. Asthma is not a disease that is preventable. (NHLBI, 2015). The risk or likelihood that someone would have asthma is based on the biological makeup of the individual that would predispose them to the disease, rather than behavioral, environmental, or even social factors.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (CDC, 2015). Prevention of asthma is not the focus of interventions since it is not a preventable disease, but rather the focus is to intervene with the management of the disease. There are some protective factors that can be employed so that the occurrence of asthma attacks is reduced, or at least, well managed. Once someone has been identified as having asthma, the goal is to manage it well so that there are as few asthma attacks as possible. In 2008, the National Asthma Control Initiative (NACI) was created. The goal of creating the NACI is to have the ability to work with different partners throughout the community to successfully put asthma guidelines into action beginning with the home and moving out into the community, which may include schools, health care settings, as well as other parts of the community. (National Asthma Control Initiative [NACI], 2011). Primary interventions focus on preventing the disease before it occurs. Clearly, this drive is best demonstrated through Faustus himself when asked by his fellow scholars to summon Helen of Troy in the B text: Gentlemen, for that I know your friendship is unfeigned, It is not Faustus custom to deny The just request of those that wish him well. You shall behold that peerless dame of Greece (5.1.18 21). Faustus strong desire to impress others doubtlessly derives from his fear of being rejected by those of high stature in society; he wishes to belong with them and not from whence he came. Furthermore, Stephen Orgel notes in Magic and Power in Doctor Faustus , that although Faustus has unlimited power, he only conjures what is asked of him, never striving beyond or testing his boundaries, and that this represents two major flaws within Faustus: an artistic failure of imagination and a scholarly failure of originality (396). Both failures stem from Faustus only doing what he is told, merely fulfilling what is asked of him, so that he may, for a while, share their acclaim and status. Through both The Nose and The Overcoat, Gogol reveals his true nature as a comical humorist with the intention of giving readers a laugh but also of mocking human vanity. From the very beginning of The Overcoat, it becomes clear the story has a comedic nature. While explaining to the reader the touchiness of departments in Russia, Gogol gives the district police chief as an example: He plainly demonstrated that all the imperial institutions were going to the dogs, and that the Czar s sacred name was being taken in vain; and in proof he appended to the complain a romance, in which the district chief of police is made to appear about once in every ten pages, and sometimes in a downright drunken condition (Gogol 1). The scenario Gogol describes is one of absurdity. How could someone get so worked up over a book that has no intent of offending them? No normal person would ever become so hysterical over a piece of literature that indirectly offends them. Claiming that the whole political system of Russia is being destroyed and that royalty had been disgraced because of a simple character in a book that resembles oneself is preposterous. While temporary safety could be found in the warmth of the mead hall and the companionship of others, the devastation of war, disease, and time would slowly etch away at even the most stable and peaceful society. This unease spurred Anglo Saxon poets to write some of their most beautiful, haunting pieces of verse, like Hrothgar s Sermon from Beowulf and the Elegies. Throughout this essay I will describe how this experience benefited me even when I was struggling to understand or find out where I was. As well as how it impacted my cultural frame and perspective of Italian culture. When it came to the experience there were many different struggles that we face and that is why it was the one that stood out to me the most. The first struggle we faced was not being able to find anywhere to get food the first day we got their since everything was closed. • 29. Triple Entente Outline The First World War began in the summer of 1914 and lasted until the end of November 1918. It is the result of long standing tensions between the European powers. It ended with the defeat of the Central Powers and cost about 17 million lives. In the First World War the Triple Entente and the Central Powers had to face each other. The Triple Entente is a military alliance between France, England and Russia. This developed from the Entente cordiale (cordial agreement), which was an alliance between England and France. In addition to colonial questions, the power of the German Empire, which sought a world power policy under the program of the New Course under Wilhelm II, was also to be restricted. Above all, the United Kingdom saw its role as a naval power endangered by the naval construction program. Later in 1917 the United States entered the war ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 30. Customary Law and the Status of Indigenous Australian s Essay It is important to always show respect towards the indigenous, acknowledge their laws, their practices and their customs further paying respects to the original custodians of the land. This however does not mean that recognition of aboriginal customary law is essential to improving the status (social position) of indigenous Australians; on the contrary it poses more problems than solutions. Although law is seen as the fabric of existence and intrinsic to living, it is impossible to judge one legal system in terms of another. As such, while there are many positive aspects of aboriginal customary law, which is merely just different and in no means (worse) or (better) than English common law, its enforcement is not essential to improving the... Moreover, the ability to determine which laws are in affect with which Indigenous and non indigenous Australian s becomes limited and the issue falls to public disapproval. Due to the unwritten nature of aboriginal customary law confusion would arise as to who must/can abide by certain customary laws and punishments for those who disobey. An injustice would then occur when distinguishing which indigenous Australian s receive the blanket of customary law and whether or not it extends to half casts and if so, to whom does it extend. This general confusion would create not only laws that are un easy to follow but would also create many general misinterpretations of the law and could lead to further racism attitudes. Said racism attitudes would ignite when scrutiny over punishments and who receives them arises while people strive for equality and argue over the degree of fairness received. This scrutiny not only hinders the status of indigenous Australian s rather than improving it, but can also lead to future hostilities and class /status debates again creating the possibility of a negative impact. There are various other remedies that could be implemented in order to improve the status of Indigenous Australia s especially with the flexible common law structure, some of which have already been ... The Bluest Eye V.S The Color Purple In my essay, I ll be comparing and contrasting Pecola from novel The Bluest Eye , and Celie from the movie The Color Purple . In the novel, The Bluest Eye , Pecola, and from the movie The Color Purple , Celie, share many similarities in their stories. But they also have many differences that make them who they are. They re both very young girls, going through a lot of struggles that you really wouldn t be able to imagine happening, yet at the same time you can even compare it to yourself. To start off, I d like to make a few comparisons about Pecola and Celie. Things that are similar between the two characters is their lives. Pecola and Celie are both very young girls. Between the ages of 11 15. They go through things that no child, nor anyone should go through. Like their beauty, or their sexual innocence. Not only that, they re similar into how they see themselves, and what they go through with their family. But at some points, Celie also shares a similarity to Geraldine. A black woman who lives like a white woman. For example, getting married to do house work, and to please the man. Both Celie and Geraldine don t feel any type of love towards their supposed significant other, but to another living thing. For Geraldine, its her black pet cat, and for Celie, it s her little sister, Netty The loss of innocence is what both characters share. Pecola, while at home doing house work, her father Cholly, stumbles in drunk. For a while, he stands there and looks at Pecola. Imagining her as a younger version of Pauline, Pecola s mother and Chollys wife. As Pecola s cleaning, Cholly makes a move on her. Though it s not the first time he tried something like this to Pecola, he did succeed. Right in the kitchen is where Pecola is raped by Cholly, taking away her innocence and leaving her pregnant. But she loses the baby. Just like Celie. Celie, after her mother s death, is left with her younger sister and father. Being the big sister, she does everything in her power to protect younger sibling, such as protecting her from their father sexually assaulting her. Celie, after getting raped by her father, gets pregnant, twice. She loses both babies. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Argumentative Essay Boxing Boxing a violent cage fight, or a crowd pleasing sport? Boxing is a high intensified sport that can be seen as helping the fighter in life or permanently damaging the fighters future. Many say that boxing is one of the safest sports; however, boxing can leave permanent brain damage from constant punches to the skull. The sport boxingis for managers to earn money while their fighter is in the ring fighting against another human until one gives up, or gets knocked out. A fight could be the end of one s career, or even one s life. Boxing should be banned because the money earned does not trump the risk of death, the mixed messages from fighters in the ring confuse the laws regarding assault, and the constant punches to and athletes head leaves permanent damage. The death of one is not worth the money earned from winning a fight. This is important to realize because the expense of one s life is worth way more than the winnings of a cage fight. In On Boxing, Joyce asserts directly why she thinks boxing is not a humanized sport: In the boxing ring, even in our greatly humanized times, death is always a possibility which is why some of us prefer to watch films or tapes of fights already past, already defined as history (source c). Compared to the other pieces, the book Culture and Society or the article the Analysis of Culture, this particular article offers a different impression. On the contrary, it gives me a more contextual and personal information about what culture is. In addition, this article reminds me of my own cultural experience. The title of the article, Culture is ordinary, somewhat brings me the message that one does not need to travel far just to find out what culture is because as emphasized by Williams we can easily find out culture from where they live; from the common thing in life, straight from your own door. For me, the way Williams begins his discussion by giving the readers the description of his hometown (trip) is apt to give a sense that culture is ordinary; that culture is not something unreachable or unseen, for it is here, around us. The introduction also serves to reinforce how ordinary and simple culture is that it is drawn from the everyday life. The bus route is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many studies have found that mesovortexgenesis is initiated at low levels by tilting, in downdrafts, of crosswise baroclinic horizontal vorticity (Trapp and Weisman 2003 Part II, Wheatley and Trapp 2008, Atkins and St. Laurent 2009 Part II). Additional studies have found that strong low level updraft is critical in converging and amplifying vertical vorticity associated with the mesovortex (Schenkman et al. 2012, Atkins and St. Laurent 2009). The region with the largest lightning flash rates is related to a stronger mid level updraft, and a lightning jump (or multiple lightning jumps) occur in response to a rapid intensification of updraft strength. This mid level updraft can assist in mesovortexgenesis in two ways. First, if a low level mesovortex is present in the presence of strong vertical wind shear, this strong mid level updraft could potentially act to stretch the vertical vorticity, thereby strengthening the mesovortex. Secondly, this strong mid level updraft can ultimately produce more and larger precipitation, which in turn contributes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. The Shawl Analysis In The Shawl , Cynthia Ozick uses vivid details throughout the story to engage the reader. The story portrays the hard times Jews had during the Holocaust in a concentration camp consisting of three main characters: Rosa, Stella, and Magda who are trying to survive the horror of Nazism through a magical shawl. Rosa is the mother of Magda, a fifteen month baby and the aunt of Stella, a fourteen year old girl. The shawl is the only thing keeping them alive throughout the story and at the end it leads them to their death. The author s use of symbolism is very significant to the story. Cynthia Ozickuse of symbolism helps the reader visualize the setting by using symbols to convey different meanings and understand how these symbols characterize the experience of the holocaust survivors. First, let s start off with the central symbol Ozick uses, the shawl. The shawl itself carries various meanings to the reader and symbolizes something different to each character. Rosa, Stella and Magda form a group on the basis of their shared illusion concerning the magic shawl (Gordon 322). One of the first symbols the shawl delivers is life and death. This magical shawl has nourished Magda for three days and three nights due to Rosa not being able to produce milk for her. In the story it says The shawl was Magda s own baby, her pet, her little sister. (Ozick 248) which tells us that the shawl has become Magda s life. The shawl somehow seems to feed her, protect her and keep her alive. For Magda, this shawl has become everything: mother, food, clothing, and shelter. (Gordon 322). Even though the shawl in some way kept Magda alive and it symbolized her life, unfortunately at the end it became the symbol of her death. Even though the shawl did not literally wrap her in death, the shawl that nourished her and protected her in life was the same cloth that brought about her death says (Jones 1) Stella started getting cold and took the shawl away from Magda which became the reason of Magda s death. Sociological Aspects Of Social Psychology Social Psychology According to Gordon Allport , social psychology is an attempt to understand and explain how the thought, feeling, and behavior of individuals is influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others. The psychological aspect of social psychology, which was developed in the US The differences between the two divisions are, that the sociological way of viewing social psychology focusses more on group interaction, group processes, while the psychological aspects of social psychology focusses more on the individual and how the individual is influenced and/or behaves in social settings. Thus, rather than raising academic quality, institutions under a government accrediting system would have little incentive to exceed established standards or focus on continuous improvement efforts, negatively impacting the value of a collegedegree. Additionally, a government accrediting system that focuses on economically driven measures of value would provide an incomplete picture of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Zumeta (2005) reported, the decline in degree completion rates is, in part, due to institutions enrolling more disadvantaged students; however, elite institutions have higher graduation rates. Thus, the surest route to success is to reduce the risk profile of the students admitted (p. 50). Because retention and graduation rates are significantly influenced by the characteristics of the students they admit, institutions would be forced to admit fewer disadvantaged students in order to meet accreditation standards. Rather than increasing diversity on college campuses, such actions would likely further stratify student bodies socioeconomically across these different types of schools (p. 50). This has far reaching implications for higher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
