My Duty For Volunteering At Virginia Commonwealth...
Over the course of a month, I dedicated time to volunteer with agencies that focus on providing safe
and productive programs for children. Stop Child Abuse Now also known as SCAN, focuses on
stopping/preventing child abuse in homes. This agency teams with many different agencies around
Richmond to help parents and children coop and learn way to avoid situations of abuse. My duty for
volunteering was teaming with Virginia Commonwealth University Health Services and making
SCAN a known organization throughout Richmond community. VCU threw a wellness block party
that included many different health services but also gave members of the community to learn and
seek help with many different organizations that were there promoting their business or organization. I
sat with one other girl and passed out flyers and contact information to those who were interested in
the organizations. I explained to individuals what the program was about and the benefits of the
program. I had one particular interaction with this young mother who explained she was in a situation
where children were being abused and the authorities were notified and now she s seeking counseling
for her and the children involved. I and the other young lady volunteering with me were able to give
her information on the program and also contact numbers to individuals that could help her situation.
This young woman was very grateful and happy she found an organization that could assist her with
her situation. From this

Examples Of Light And Light In A Streetcar Named Desire
Darkness and light have been used as symbols in various literary works throughout history from
meaningful lines in the first book of the bible to powerful statements in modern literature. These two
naturally opposing forces are displayed in literary texts to exemplify the ever continuing battles of
good vs. evil, illusion vs. reality, happiness vs. misery, or love vs. hate. Most of these external
struggles are shown especially in Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire. There are instances
in life where some matters can be hidden, but others need to be exposed. Throughout the play,
Williams is constantly describing characters, symbols, and themes with the motif light vs. dark. The
idea of light vs. dark is evidently shown through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
dark is also used throughout the play to help convey the theme illusion vs. reality. One example of this
is the paper lantern. Blanche covers the exposed light bulb in the Kowalski s apartment with a chinese
paper lantern. I bought this adorable little paper lantern, put it over the light bulb! (60). Blanche s
colored paper lantern was a approach to create her own beautiful world to mask the hideous reality
that she does not want to deal with. However, when Mitch finds out the truth about Blanche, she
finally admits that she tried to disguise the harsh reality. I don t want realism. I want magic. Yes, yes
magic! (117). Another example how darkness and light express this theme is Stanley Kowalski s
violent nature. In the beginning of the play, he is displayed as a likeable person, as he is faithful to his
friends and passionate about his wife. However, Stanley s pleasant and good natured character is
found to be harsh and detrimental. Later in the play, he beats his wife and rapes his sister in law.
Williams displays his true image when describing Stanley s monstrous and menacing shadows that
appear on the wall before he rapes Blanche. This theme is also shown by Stanley s wife, Stella

How Individuals Communicate Communication Is The Exchange...
How individuals communicate communication is the exchange of data among people. By a life coach
understanding his/her own style of communicating, one will go far towards making great and enduring
impressions with others. Although people have been taught to talk, compose, and read to from an early
age, individuals have gotten little, if any, preparation in listening. Active listening is a correspondence
expertise that joins both verbal and non verbal skills keeping in mind the end goal to create positive
results, by encouraging comprehension, appreciation, and compassion between individuals. Listening
actively enables a life coach to ask questions effectively, which helps the coach successfully
communicate with every one of one s clients, for they should master the viable skills of questioning.
As a coach hone the skill of actively listening and asking the right questions, they can then use those
skills to motivate the client. For, life coaches, should feel prepared to help other people are ordinarily
ready to inspire and motivate. Life coaching is responsive and adaptable; it takes into account
individual move on an individual premise. Therefore, to become a successful life coach, one must
possess these skills. These skills not only help the coach and clients build a good relationship, but it
also helps the coach become a better life coach throughout the process. An Analysis of Life Coaching

President Executive Officer Director Chief Officer Essay
Overview
After thirty years at the helm of Fortuga Artisans, Inc., a home décor manufacturing company,
founded Peter Fortuga in 2011 announced his retirement to his staff. Expeditiously, the search for a
replacement commenced and the board of directors found Doug Jeffers, a well known interior
designer, to replace Fortuga as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). A charismatic, hard working, and well
connected individual, Jeffers appeared qualified through his innovative approach to lead the company
to new heights.
Analysis of Leadership Strategies
Due to his past success, one could presume Jeffers management approach would be inspirational, and
his community profile renders him as an authentic and charismatic leader. In fact, he degraded
employees, ignored other s sentiments and notions, determined strategic decisions unaided,
disregarded company policies, and discounted the need for work and life balance. As a result, Jeffers
personified the negative characteristics of charismatic leaders, and he is the antithesis of the positive
attributes. However, the public s perception of Jeffers did not translate over to the team at Fortuga. In
fact, he was distal to feedback and disregarded company policies these traits embody a charismatic
leader (Spahr, 2016). If Jeffers were a charismatic leader, he would be an effective communicator,
build trust, and influence those around him to become devout followers (Riggio, 2012). In this case,
his employees perceived Jeffers as a

Pay Attention To The Environment Research Paper
We need people to pay attention to the environment. Thankfully, we have teen activists that do pay
attention. Teen activists are teenagers that stand up for what they believe is right. For instance, there is
Alex Lin, who refurbishes and recycles e waste, Team Marine who act against pollution of plastic
bags, and Clay McMullen who studies and helps the environment. This will show that these activists
can help change the world.
Alex Lin To start, Alex Lin helps recycle and refurbish electronic waste. One day in 2004, 9 year old
Alex Lin read an article on e waste. That s when he started to act. That means that even when he was
nine, he was aware of what was happening in the world. Also, according to Alex Lin Helps Reduce E
waste, by TakePart TV, in 2006, Alex passed a bill for the state of Rhode Island saying that it was
illegal for any improper disposal of e waste. This means that he cared so much about this cause that he
went this far to stop it. To add onto this, Turning E waste Into E treasure, at inspiremykids.com says
that after the tsunami in 2004, Alex donated refurbished computers to Sri Lanka. They named a

Clay builds nests for Osprey, starts nature clubs for his district s elementary schools, and plants
courtyards and gardens at his school. This shows that he is really making an act to fix the environment.

Origin Story The small bird flies in the blue sky. The little bird didn t like the plain white on its
feathers so it absorbed the blue of the sky. The blue disappears and the sky cries for its once stolen

She looks at the world before her filled with no sorrow, grief, happiness, anger, color. The world
before our own was filled with no emotions, our world before the creation of feelings and colors. A
long time ago the only feeling that ever existed was the feeling of emptiness. We feel this when we

Comparing the Emplementation and Scrutinizing of Proposed Bills in the House of Commons and
Congress
This essay will examine how two institutions, namely the House of Commons and Congress, which
are supposed to serve the same process, differ widely in the way they implement and scrutinise
proposed bills. The essay will examine the relationship between the legislature and the executive; the
importance of the party; and the constitutional arrangements which give each legislature very different
characteristics.

A $1.7 trillion annual budget and congressional decentralization through the committee system allows
lawmakers to specialize and make decisions on a wide range of complex topics. This is very different
to the House of Commons (HoC), which has a much smaller budget and a less rigorous committee
system. The rigorous nature of the Congressional committee system (CCS) could be seen as
advantageous since it allows detailed legislation on potentially complex topics to be written. However,
the composition of the committee may not be unbiased, and once the legislation has been drafted it
must be ratified by the rest of Congress.
Since the CCS is so important to the USlegislative process the membership of the committees requires
careful consideration. The composition, range of interests, and the scope of their policies are
determined by the members. If a committee were full of like minded people that were not socially
representative of the people the policies concern, then it is feasible for the democratic process to be
undermined. Furthermore, the quality of the resulting bill is highly dependent on the ability of the
committee members. To counter these potentially negative influences the bill must be ratified by
Congress once it leaves the Committee phase.
With 535 members of Congress it can be very

Disney Movies Advantages And Disadvantages
Alternatives
Disney s tentpole strategy has been fairly successful throughout the Disney Studios lifetime. Even
though this strategy worked in the past it may not be the best strategy moving forward, as there are
advantages and disadvantages to this strategy. One advantage of this strategy is that the tentpole films
attract movie going customers that think of the movies more as an event rather than just a film they
want to see. A $200 million movie is more likely than a $20 million movie to have elements that
appeal to moviegoers to have special value for them. , said Horn. Just as with any bet, there could also
be a risk and disadvantage. If the film fails, they would both have to take the fall instead of just

Having five independent sub studios also creates its own set of issues. Directors and executives not
being on the same page is one of the issues that has the potential to be the most costly. In the case of
Inside Out they made beneficial changes to the movie late in the process after executives viewed the
cut of the movie. In this case, executives working with sub studios benefitted the finished product,
however, it creates and environment in which if executives and directors have different views of
where a movie should go or how characters should be portrayed it could lead to a complete teardown
and reshoot of a movie which would waste time and possibly risk missing a release date of a major
tentpole movie. Another challenge that arises when sub studios are involved is division of resources,
which could lead to lower quality movies by not having all creative minds working on a particular
movie. For example, Disney live action has had the biggest percentage of failures versus all of the
other labels. Marvel and Lucasfilm have had tremendous success in creating universes in which their
movies can take place and add on to. This can be seen in the Star Wars universe or the Marvel
universe. The creative minds that developed the ideas to base these movies could be beneficial to the
Disney live action brand but the separation of resources keeps collaboration of creative minds from
happening.

Essay about Intrinsic Compensation and Discretionary Benefits
Compensation and Benefit Systems Intrinsic Compensation and Discretionary Benefits Intrinsic
compensation refers to ability of workers to gain pleasure from their accomplishments of their daily
activities. This pleasure acts as their reward or compensation of what they have individually done.
This has the effect of making the workers enjoy their tasks. On the other hand, workers sometimes
receive rewards on top of their salary or wages. These rewards are not mandatory for one to receive.
These kinds of additional rewards are referred to as Discretionary benefits. Strategic Analysis This

the salary or wages of qualified employees. The older parties get a larger proportion in comparison to
the younger members. On the other hand, new comparability helps employer to classify the workers

Planning ahead should always be a number one priority when alcohol will be present, especially if
driving will be involved. Driving under the influence is a serious crime, and should not be taken
lightly. Unfortunately, DUI accidents still does happen quite often. As an adult, this is one of the many

single patron has drank. Its understandable if it was a regular, however a bartender sees hundreds of

drinks a patron is buying is for them only. It is quite common for a friend or someone else to buy
drinks for another. When this happens, there is a drink unaccounted for because the bartender does not
know who the patron bought it for. Another unaccounted drinks is if a patron buy drinks from different

The operating review of the company lists down the operating losses that the company faced over year
and compared it with the past years operating performance. The results suggest that the sales revenue
for the company grew over the year; however, due to higher increase in the cost of sales the company
had to face a higher gross loss than the past year (Refer to appendix A). Moreover, the company
discontinued its noncore retailing operations for the year in an attempt to reduce the losses sustained
in the past year, but the result was not positive, and the company had to face higher loss from its core
business in 2010 then both the operations combined in the past year (JJB Sports PLC, 2011).
The KPI s did not provide a better picture for the company except for showing growth in revenues and
gross margin, and all the results were unsatisfactory (Appendix B). The net loss per share also rose to
61.8 pence per share from the last year figure of 20.84 pence per share.
The key risks that the company faces are economic conditions, competition, key employees, suppliers,
availability of credit, financial risks, business continuity, revenue dependence, cost saving, leased
property portfolio, as well as, some other minor risks. The amount of risks faced by the company is
high, and the realization of those risks is a good possibility in light of the performance of the

The Bombing Of Hiroshima
The morning of August 6, 1945 in Hiroshima, Japan did not begin in any exceptional way; in fact the
people had no idea that they were about to be part of one of the most significant mornings in all of
history. At 8:15 am, the United States Army Air Forces dropped the first atomic bomb, ironically
called, when one considers the enormity of the bomb s significance, the Little Boy Three days later the
U.S. dropped a second bomb nicknamed the Fat Man on the town of Nagasaki, Japan. Historically, the
use of the atomic bombs is seen as a decision that the United States made during WWII in order to end
the war with Japan. Regardless of the motivation for using the bombs, they left a death toll of 210,000

radiation. In addition to the health effects many Japanese people were left scarred from the burns they
suffered from the atomic bomb. Source three portrays an image of a man severely disfigured due to
nuclear burns he suffered; this source proves the statement that many civilians were left horribly burnt

President Truman and his associates. United States thought that it was absolutely necessary to bomb
Japan. The citizens of the United States thought that the bombings put an end to the Pacific War, and

prior to the bombing, Japanese leaders were preparing to surrender in the summer of 1945. It has even

Questions On Some Interviewing Tips
Some Interviewing Tips: 1. Identify yourself and make sure the person you are interviewing is at ease
and comfortable. 2. The respondent s reaction often mirrors that of the interviewer. The respondent
will know if you are not comfortable. Your pleasant, positive, well informed approach will be reflected
in the interviewees readiness to respond. 3. If you want more detailed responses to your questions,
reinforce those kinds of answers say, Yes, Okay, or I see, or nod. Do not use the same reinforces for
unresponsive answers, using same reinforces for unresponsive answers gives the wrong signal. 4. To

The International Table Tennis Federation
Table tennis is characterized by numerous rules that govern how the game should be played. The game
is mainly characterized by exceptionally fast reactions thereby making rules quite necessary. Players
must allow the ball to bounce once on their side of the court before returning it to the opposite end.
The initial serve is, however, exempted from this requirement. Points are scored if a team fails to keep
the ball in play. The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) instituted some key changes in the
rules of the game following the 2000 Olympics games, which were held in Sidney, Australia. The
amendments were mainly aimed at enhancing the game s viability as a spectator sport that could be
televised. Among the new changes was the increasing of the ball s diameter to 40 millimeters. Soon
thereafter, the ITTF changed the game s scoring system from 21 point to 11 point system
(International Table Tennis Federation, 2014). The serve rotation was also brought down from five
points to two. Soon thereafter, the global federation of the game changed the rules and effectively
prohibited players from hiding balls during service. In keeping with the sport s spirit of fairness, the
rules cushions opponents from being caught by surprise. Rules require that the ball must be tossed a
minimum of 16 centimeters in the air before being served. There are rules governing the course of
events during a match including which team takes the first serve. In order to highlight the numerous

The Tragedy Of William Shakespeare s Othello
In this life that we live, many different individuals go about their business without considering the
individual struggles that they have to deal with. According to dictionary.com, a struggle is defined as,
a forceful/violent attempt or effort to get free from restraint or contrition . Some of these personal
struggles are more pronounced than other. From Othello, the tragedy by William Shakespeare, we can
see how humans are faced with individual contentions, and their daily actions are ways and efforts of
trying to free themselves. In the discussion below we consider Othello s struggle with being different,
gullibility, timidity, inferiority, pride and selfishness and Iago s conniving personality, hate, greed,
manipulation, selfishness and slander
Talking about human contrition, Othello s life is without doubt as presented, is with many great
successes. He is introduced as a great soldier with many victories and a reputable general from a royal
family, From men of royal siege, and my demerits , (1.11.21). Notwithstanding such achievements, he
struggles with the fact that he is a black moor among the Venetian whites. This aspect of difference
makes him stand out but also as an easy target. Additionally, either because of his origin or his
upbringing Othello comes as one struggling with gullibility. When he saw Cassio leave the company
of Desdemona, other than calling him back to confirm whether it was he, he dismisses it saying, I don
t believe twas he , (3.3.43).

Robert Frost s Out, Out
Out, Out is a poem written by the late Robert Frost. It depicts the harsh death of a young farm boy due
to an accident caused by a saw. The title of the poem derives from a speech in the famous Shakespeare
play, Macbeth, and it signifies the ephemeral nature of life. The writer depicts this behind a scenic,
Vermont countryside, offsetting the horror that this accident caused. The author also uses many other
ways to evoke a sense of horror in this poem.
For example, the poem uses many literary devices (such as personification, alliteration etc.),
techniques and phrases to emit horror throughout the poem. One such case is in the first line, as the
writer uses both personification and onomatopoeias such as snarled and rattled (which repeats ... Show

He does this by using emotive language and words to accurately describe the effects of the buzzsaw
for example, he uses words like snarled and rattled which use personification (the snarl of a dog) as
well as onomatopoeias to successfully convey the frightfulness of the saw throughout the poem.
Furthermore, the writer succeeds in creating a sense of horror through the buzzsaw by making the
accident seem very unexpected, as the quote As it ran light, or had to bear a load.
And nothing happened shows just how unprecedented the accident was, and it describes the fact that
the buzzsaw never did anything of the manner. This in turn further adds to the overall shock value of
the poem, and makes for a devastatingly horrific description of the buzzsaw and the accident.
Overall, the writer succeeds in creating a sense of horror through the poem by using many different
and useful techniques. He uses descriptive words, phrases and techniques such as caesura, iambic
pentameter and more, gradually reveals the gravity of the accident through changing the tone, and
presents the buzzsaw in a scary manner by using emotive language and dramatic phrases. All of this
makes the poem ever more frightful and horrific. All in all, Robert Frost has succeeded in not only
making the poem more horrific, but giving it more life

The Consumption Of Wine By Imbibing Wine
Isn t it ironic that in Ancient Greece the consumption of wine was encouraged for promoting liberated
speech in intellectual social gatherings? We in the United States treat alcohol as a slow but deadly
poison that should be avoided. By imbibing wine in events known as symposiums, the Greek would
discuss intellectual ideas which lead to the acceleration of knowledge. In some cases, the symposia
weren t only for poetry and discussion, the symposiarch would hire woman for entertaining purposes.
The woman would play instruments, dance, or even engage in sexual encounters with the men
livening up the event with culture and music. Unfortunately, this was the only way woman could

Anacreon would be an individual that could be celebrated in such a way. In short entertainment and
status were important, being an intellectual male gave you popularity.
Given that entertainment isn t the sole purpose of symposium, the drinking cup (kylix) with a group of
youths and older men at the symposium displays the interaction between men. The drinking cup is
very unique, on the basis that no other piece within MFA displays a sizeable group of men of differing
ages. The piece epitomizes Greek sexuality; the people of Ancient Greece believed in the concept of
love between erastes (older men) and eromenos (younger men). The younger men would look up to
the older men as sexual and philosophical mentors. According to the museum label Older men and
beardless youth mingle and converse at a symposium (np); you can clearly identify that the older men
are pursuing the younger males. In Symposium Pausanius states Heavenly Aphrodite represents the
love between males because they find pleasure in what is by nature stronger and more intelligent

inferior and didn t have the mental capacity to comprehend love. It s important to realize, the other

I Want To Become A Career In Music
Loud music blared throughout the house while everyone attempted to sleep. Yes, It was me, a
promising young producer with a passion for music.By the time I was 14, I was marketing and selling
beats online. At a young age, I began surrounding myself with other producers and audio engineers,
and as a result, I began to learn useful techniques to become more successful. It is quite difficult being
a consistent music producer, therefore, I am compelled to work diligently to diversify my music.

an average producer. I receive over two million views on my youtube channels and over a million
views on my website monthly. People buy my beats to help fund me for future development. During
school, I always receive notifications from. different people asking for a unique beat or to license one
that they took interest in. I fell in love with making beats and I was ecstatic to find out that there was a
career that could further develop my skills. My love for beats keeps me dedicated to becoming one of

individual that doesn t let any obstacle interfere with my goals
Being in high school often presented me with many adversities. I was facing peer pressure, the weird
change in environment, and basically every other typical problem a freshman faced. When I told
people about my love for producing beats, many people doubted my skills and tried to kill my dreams.
However, I refused to let go of my passion for making beats and continued to strive for my goal,

The Fulfillment Of The Abrahamic Covenant
The Pentatuach offers the reader hope in the fulfillment of the Abrahamic Covenant because
It all began in the covenant with Abraham, God promised many things to him. God promised
numerous descendants, land, and a relationship with him. God s first blessing would provide Abraham
with numerous descendants, which in turn would become a great nation. His second blessing would
provide him and his family with a place to call home. His third blessing states that Abraham will have
a relationship with God. This means that, anyone who blesses Abraham will be blessed by God,
anyone that curses him will be cursed. In return for all of these promises, Abraham and all of his male
members and descendants were circumcised to let God know that they belong to him.
We can believe that the Abrahamic covenant would be fulfilled when, God called Abraham to leave
his country, relatives, and family to go to the land that he was going to be given. God said, I will make
you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others.
The land that the Lord took Abraham too, was the land that would be given to him and his
descendants. After Abraham was gone, his descendants would be in possession of the land.
Abraham had a vision, where God promised to protect him. Abraham had a hard time believing that
him and his wife would ever have children. God told Abraham that the amount of descendants that he
would have, is equivalent to the amount of stars in the sky.

The Community Stability Act ( Csa ) Essay
The Community Stability Act (CSA) is a policy designed to reduce housing transiency in low income
urban and rural communities by providing housing subsidies to low income families, and financial
assistance to families at risk of or experiencing eviction. The CSA will alleviate poverty through
removing the various stressors associated with housing transiency, and have subsidiary effects related
to education and economic opportunity. This policy is predicated on one key understanding. It is
indisputable that the nature of the housing market has changed most urban low income households are
spending a significant portion of their income ( 50%) on housing expenses. The present is an
aberration of long held expectations that housing costs should not exceed 30% of one s income and it
needs to be addressed. However, the problem of housing costs is multifaceted, and addressing it
requires systemic changes (augmenting the power dynamic between labor and capital in the U.S.,
fixating on public and affordable housing rather than private development) that would not be practical
in the current political environment, or in the foreseeable future. This policy, in contrast, derives its
attractiveness from how it can be framed, and the widespread effects (from a geographical and
socioeconomic perspective) that it will have. The CSA will provide a housing subsidy to all parents of
schoolchildren (aged four to eighteen). The subsidy would reduce the family s housing costs to 30% of

Enough With The Blame Game
ENOUGH WITH THE BLAME GAME
So, it a Thursday morning and I am at work reading News Papers. I always want to be up to date with
current affairs in my country Uganda and all over the world. Politics interest me, and it always makes
headlines. If you looked at today s New Papers, you would see what I am saying.
These stories will either be good or bad, depending on a particular News Paper s ideology or
conception of the events. Yes, they take sides too; which is okay, don t we all?
Speaking of taking sides, why do we always take our side? Why do we always blame our failures and
all the mischief in this world on other people? Why are we always right and others wrong?
Sometimes I want to think it is instinct; that we are born with an inherent aspiration to choose our side
over anyone else s; that we are supposed to be our own defenders, at all material times and that we
never go wrong in our own eyes, but is this so?
The world has very many problems right now; problems that affect each one of us, in one way or
another, regardless of where we are. We are aware of this, but do we care? Or if we do, do we care
enough?
I believe we will register milestone achievement in solving the world s biggest problems if we all felt
responsible for them in one way or the other. There is war, xenophobia, racism, terrorism, illiteracy,
poverty, hunger, I could go on and on. Each one of us can do something that can or has the potential to
positively bring change the world. Yes, all of us, in our

Summary Of Woman Hollering Creek By Gloria Anzalda
Cultural expectations have prevented humans from being able to lead their own lives the way they see
fit. Gloria Anzaldúa and Sandra Cisneros are two notorious Mexican American writers that wrote
extensively about cultural borders and expectations. Anzaldúa came from the Mexico Texas border,
was a cultural and feminist theorist as well as English scholar, while Cisneros also comes from a
Latino background and speaks from her cultural hybridity to illustrate cultural expectations. In this
paper, I will use Anzaldúa s Borderlands / La Frontera as a lens for Cisnero s short story, Woman
Hollering Creek to draw connections of cultural and gender expectations between two different genres
of text.
Anzaldúa uses ethos as a cultural theory studier to illustrate that culture forces us to make our beliefs
and that expectations create a power struggle in her culture. She claimed that Culture forms our
beliefs. (Anzaldúa 38) And that Culture is made by those in power men. Males make the rules and
laws; women transmit them. (Anzaldúa 38) Anzaldúa goes on to explain that women are powerless
compared to men, and they are beaten anytime they try to break free of their cultural and familial
expectations. She asserts that The culture expects women to show greater acceptance of, and
commitment to, the value system than man. (Anzaldúa 39) and Woman are made to feel total failures
if they don t marry and have children. (Anzaldúa 39) In Hollering Creek , Cleofilas is pregnant with

Huntington s Disease ( Hd ) Is A Neurodegenerative Disease
Huntington s disease (HD) is a neurodegenerative disease that affects roughly 10 individuals per
100,000 (Nopoulus, 2016). This disorder is normally associated with symptoms including motor
impairment, namely slowed movements and random muscle contractions, as well as depression and
cognitive dysfunction. However, another prominent symptom that has yet to be mentioned until
recently is sleep disturbance and alteration of normal circadian rhythms. It is estimated that 60 90% of
HD patients have sleep issues and that nearly 60% see those issues as being factors in their overall
problems (Goodman et al., 2010). Despite the minimal volume of studies, the overwhelming
proportion of HD patients who are afflicted with circadian dysfunction and ... Show more content on

However, in HD patients metabolic dysfunction is commonplace (Morton, 2013). A study using
transgenic R6/2 mice, which were designed to imitate conditions similar to HD, has shown that the
mice exhibit dysfunction and disconnection of the peripheral clocks from the SCN s control
(Maywood et al., 2010). These mice exhibited liver function that was characterized by loss of
circadian control. The liver plays a crucial role in maintaining metabolic homeostasis, so this could be
a possible explanation to the metabolic dysfunction that is seen so often in HD. If the peripheral
clocks are disoriented from the central rhythms, then this can result in different body systems no
longer working as effectively as when they are in sync. Furthermore, research has also revealed that
circadian function within the SCN is also directly affected by HD. In another study using R6/2 mice, it
was found that the mice night day ratios were abnormal, revealing circadian disruption (Morton et al.,
2005). In addition to their activity patterns, the mice SCN activity were also directly measured using
electrodes and a clamp. After monitoring, it was found that the expression of their clock genes was
severely disrupted. While knowing that circadian rhythms directly within the SCN are altered in
organisms with HD is an essential step to find the most efficient treatment to normalize these
organisms, it does not reveal the way in which Huntington s

In the Tedtalk, Perception Is Everything, by Rory Sutherland. The advertising guru, Sutherland,
explains Our perception is leaky. We can t tell the difference between the quality of the food and the
environment in which we consume it. All of you would have seen this phenomenon if you have your
car is washed or valeted. When you drive away, your car feels as it drives better. And the reason for
this, unless my car valet is mysteriously changing the oil and performing work which I m not paying
him for and are unaware of, is because perception is in any case leaky. So if you do something that s
perceptional bad in one case, you can damage the other. Anyone s perception can be fixed. Some
gentlemen may think after a car wash their cars perform better but is that really the case? No, the car,
after is cleaning, is now perceived as higher quality, therefore, it performs at a higher level, which then
leads to the perception that the quality of life one lives has evolved. A clean car just makes anyone feel
better. With this information one can know start acknowledging that our perception of ourselves

addition, Polytechnique reveals insightful aftereffects of the main characters. Subsequent to the

The Perception of Human Sexuality throughout History
Throughout history it is evident that human sexuality changes do to religious, governmental and
societal influences. The perception of human sexuality has gone through many changes such as being
very open and unlabeled activity; to being very conservative and a topic that shouldn t be talked about
in public or at all. In any case, human sexuality has always been a topic of interest because humans are
sexual beings who want to understand the consciousness of themselves as male or female and see their
personal response when encountered in erotic experiences with other individuals. Unlike many other
species whose sexual force is strictly for reproduction, human s sexual drive seems to be driven by
many factors that intertwine with each other which leads to very different outcomes. Do to these
obscure human emotions and personal gratification, sex is always shown every culture s art, literature,

Optometry Application Essay
My decision to pursue a degree in optometry started from an unlikely source within the field of
healthcare. I originally aspired to become a pharmacist and had extensive experience as a pharmacy

Try to construct this histogram so it is roughly the same width and height as the histogram for the
Indigenous population. You will need to rescale the y axis.
b) Which age group contains the most number of non Indigenous people?
65 years and older contained the most non Indigenous people, with 2,828,185 people.
c) Describe the shape of the histogram. Is it symmetrical or skewed? The histogram is a plateau and is
close to symmetrical; it is flat, with a distinct right tail, which can be ruled as an outlier. This means
the population across all ages is relatively similar, with the exception of the 65+ age group. This is
likely due to the fact that there are more possible ages within the 65+ age group than the other age
groups.
Comparisons
a) Explain the main differences in the shapes of the two histograms. In the Indigenous histogram,
there is a distinct decrease in population as age increases, thus there is a right skew, whereas the non
Indigenous histogram shows no correlation between age and population, except for the 65+ age group,
thus the histogram is flat with a right tail.
b) What do the histograms tell you about the age of Indigenous and non Indigenous people in
Australia in 2011? The Indigenous histogram shows that there is a significant reduction in population
as age increases, thus there is a negative correlation. The non Indigenous histogram suggests that age

Describe a personal service experience in your high school or community, what you gained from this

High school, for most students, is a time of change and development. You not only discover more
about yourself, such as your ambitions, dreams and desires, but you also realize a greater purpose for
your life. Being raised in a Catholic family, there was a great importance put on serving the less

In tenth grade, my English teacher posed the class with a question: what are you going to do for your

smiling as you hold the door open for someone. She prompted us to go out of our comfort zone and do
something for our community. While I had been volunteering at Church and at school, I had never
really taken a step out of my comfort zone. Instead of just helping out in, say, a soup kitchen, I

Bertie And Lionel Logue In The King s Speech And A...
The contrast between Bertie and Lionel Logue in The King s Speech and John Nash and Charles
Herman in A Beautiful Mind.
In The King s Speech and A Beautiful Mind the contrast between the characters whom I will be
discussing is evident. The King s Speech and A Beautiful Mind are both highly recommended films.
The director makes use of film techniques such as mise en scene and cinematography as well as the
use of subtle but effective imagery that reflect the emotions that the characters are feeling at a certain
point in the film.
The film techniques are used in such a way so as to enhance the viewer s empathy for the characters as
well as to better portray the emotions that the characters are feeling in the film. Both films make use
of contrast which is the state of being strikingly different from something else in juxtaposition or close
association. The contrast was created in the films to show how uptight, awkward and introverted the
main characters of these films and are by making them have close relationships with a side character
who is outgoing, confident and extraverted.
The King s Speech is my favourite of the two films. The film follows Prince Albert AKA Bertie as he
battles his speech impediment that he had since he was a child of 5 years. He and his wife Elizabeth
seek help from Lionel Logue who is an Australian actor and speech therapist to try and overcome his
stammer. The two are very different in the sense that they come from two very

Burton Chapter 4
One thematic motif that emerges in chapter 6 of Burton and chapter 4 of Olstein is the concept of
connections and genealogy. Specifically, in chapter 4 of Olstein, he discusses the use of comparing
and connecting as a historiographical methodology that has been both used and challenged by
historians since its creation. In addition, in chapter 6 of Burton, she is discussing genealogy or the
history of how X or Y came to be, was shaped, emerged (Burton, pg. 73). In other words, Burton
contextualizes genealogy by defining it as a backstory.
In chapter 4 of Olstein, he notes early in the chapter, that comparative history has been on the defense
since its institutionalization (Olstein, pg. 83). This demonstrates that this is a highly contested
historical methodology that is yet to be widely accepted by historians. This might have to do with
various historian s interpretations of what comparative and connective history means. For example,
Sanjay Subrahmanyan disagrees with Victor Lieberman s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, Subrahmanyan sees connective histories as, attentive to local, regional, supra regional, and
global interfaces (Olstein, pg. 84). In other words, Subrahmanyan sees Lierberman s work as merely
comparing and contrasting different regions and argues that there is greater importance in looking at
how each region is not only different but also are connected through various means, such as for trade.
Olstein quantifies comparative history by stating it must have at least two units to compare, and that
comparative history is quantitative more than conceptual (Olstein, pg. 88). Through this analysis of
two or more units, we see that comparative history is converging with another methodology that
Olstein discusses in other chapters, which is historical sociology. Olstein concludes his chapter by
looking at the

Social Acceptance In Death Of A Salesman
In Arthur Miller s play Death of a Salesman, through the character of Linda Loman, the author
suggests that one s status (Social Acceptance, Employment/Work) is a main contributor to one s
success. When Linda totals the amount they owe in bills and Willy worries about the business he says,
Oh I ll knock em dead next week. I ll go to Hartford. I m well liked in Hartford. You know, the trouble
is, Linda, people don t seem to take to me (23). Here, Miller confirms and proves that Willy is
constantly worrying about his social status and how others view him. Universally all humans worry
about their status and just like Willy some blame their lack of success on the fact that they are not
liked by society. Furthermore, when Willy is talking

Southern Concrete Case Summary
In early 1987, L A Construction Company started building a bridge in Apalachicola Florida. As the
general contractor, L A subcontracted concrete delivery to Southern Concrete Services. The
subcontract required Southern Concrete to obtain a performance bond. Southern received the bond
from Fidelity Deposit Company of Maryland, and started supplying the concrete that same year.
According to the court, it is agreed that Southern failed to provide sufficient concrete to L A in a
timely manner and breached the subcontract in numerous other particulars (L A Contracting Company
v. Southern Concrete Services, Inc., 1994). L A complained multiple times about Southern Concrete s
poor quality of concrete and the slow delivery rates. On May 29, 1987, L A sent a letter to Southern
Concrete and F D informing them that Southern had breached the contract. ... Show more content on

After the letter, Southern Concrete improved their performance. On August 3, 1987, L A gave
Southern Concrete a satisfactorily rating on F D s routine inspection. Southern Concrete s work soon
went back to their previous quality and L A started sending complaints periodically. On January 12,
1988 L A set letters to both Southern Concrete and F D requesting that the Bonding Company take the
necessary steps to fulfill this contract to prevent any further delays and costs to L A (L A Contracting
Company v. Southern Concrete Services, Inc., 1994). No response or action was taken by Southern
Concrete or F D to remedy the issue. On May 27, 1988, Southern Concrete completed their
obligations under the subcontract. Throughout the project, L A never refused to accept Southern

Henry Turner Superego
Freud believes there is three parts of a person s personality, the Id, Ego and Superego. The Id is the
portion of the brain that is based on a pleasure principle , meaning that this is the part that controls a
person s craving and wants. There is also the Ego which is based on the reality principle , meaning this
is the section of your brain telling you how it really is and saying you can t have something based on
the present situation. Lastly, there is the Superego which is based on moral principle , meaning that
you can t have something your Id wants because it is morally wrong. Henry Turner was living a fairly
normal life, till one day his Id took over and he wanted some cigarettes and when he went to purchase
them something unexpected happened. A man was trying to rob him, but Henry wouldn t give up his
money and tried running away and got shot twice. He was able to live through, but when he came
back, he wasn t able to be himself, he couldn t walk, talk or remember anything about him or his life.
He went through extensive training and rehab to be able to retain the walking and talking part that he
had forgotten. While in rehab, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was forced to start all over and relearn how walk and talk, meaning he didn t know right from
wrong. Since he didn t know what was right and what was wrong, he just did all the things his brain
wants him to do. He didn t have any more morals to live by, because he had to start all over and learn
right from wrong. An example of this is when he learns his wife cheated on him, he doesn t know that
it was wrong until he starts to remember more and more about what he learned in previous years. I
also believe the most prominent scene to prove his Id is his natural state is when he buys the dog and
leaves to go walk around with nothing else to do. The traumatic accident he goes through changed him
as a person and made him become more of someone who is controlled by their

Positive Differences To The Canadian Society
Through my post secondary education in Electrical Engineering, I hope to make a lot of positive
differences to the Canadian Society. One of them would be in the Energy sector, which would make
two positive differences to the Canadian society. Currently, the energy (electricity generation) sector in
Canada is facing a major crisis, which is the fear of running out of world s natural resources to
produce electricity. Even though the Canadian government is promoting renewable resources, it will
take a long time to establish a network that is completely dependent on renewable resources. In the
meantime, the population of Canada is growing drastically and cities such as Toronto is struggling to
meet the rising demand for electricity due to urbanization.

Sediment Contamination
Sediments are formed from fine grained waste material due to erosion from the mine site. It often
contains dissolved metals as a result of the mining processes containing some toxic constituents such
as lead and high levels of mercury. During severe storm events and high snowmelt periods, erosion
transports a significant amount of sediments and chemicals pollutants into locals streams. Dissolved
metals often settle under the stream bed and cause decreases in macroinvertebrate and benthic
invertebrate populations. Metal accumulation in aquatic organisms, particularly benthic species, can
also lead to acute and chronic toxicity to aquatic life [EPA 35]. In addition, research has shown a
correlation between an increase in suspended solids with a decrease in density of macroinvertebrate
and benthic invertebrate populations. High turbidity can also reduce passages of light and prevent
photosynthetic activity of aquatic plants [EPA 34 35]. Aquatic plants are a major food source for
macroinvertebrates and benthic invertebrates. The reduction of plants can stimulate further declines in
aquatic life populations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Metals that settle in the stream bed can be transported by bioaccumulation. If contaminated fish is
consumed, metals may be transferred to humans and impact their physical health. Human are exposed
to the toxic metals by drinking water contaminated by sediments [EPA 35]. In addition to potential
impacts on human and aquatic life, sedimentation can also physically impact the hydraulic system.
Physical impact associated with mining includes the filling of deep pools that can result in the loss of
habitat and temperature increases [EPA 35]. Excess sediment can build up behind dams and raise
reservoir water levels. In addition to this, sedimentation can also cause the channel to widen and
become shallower. Thus, increasing the frequency of overbank flow [EPA

Managing Information Systems
The aim of this assignment is to see the requirements for developing and managing a comprehensive
Management Information system for an organisation. In today s business environment it is getting
harder and harder for organisation s to not only survive but to compete against other organisation s.
Information technology plays a big part in helping companies compete and survive. Companies that
have branches or franchises need to make sure that they can communicate with the head office so that
orders can be passed down. Most of a mangers time is spent
1 Passing information and ideas upwards to senior management to aid their decision making

Regular reports help managers perform their duties for example a summary report of sales figures of a
particular period in the year would allow managers to predict sales figures for the coming year and
plan ahead. This would not only help the manager of the store but it would also allow the person in
charge of purchasing stock, distribution, transportation, and finance to plan ahead of time as well. The
head of stock would have an idea of how much raw materials to buy, distribution manager would have
an idea of where to send it to the parts of the organisation which are most likely to utilise it the most.
Characteristics of Management Information System
1. Management Information Systems support structured and semi structured decisions at the
operational and management control levels.
2. They are generally reporting and control oriented. They are resigned to report on existing operations
and there fore provide day to0day control operations.
3. The systems also rely on existing corporate data and data flows.
4. However Management Information Systems have little analytical capability
5. On the other hand they generally aid in decision making using past and present data
6. Management Information Systems are relatively

German Americans After Ww2
After the end of World War I many German Americans Living in the United States changed their way
of living. They would change the way they would speak, look and in some cases the way they would
act. This change started appearing not only at the end of the war, but also throughout World War I.
Some would go even as far as changing names to an American spelling while others would even
change the name of their business (Wüstenbecker, 2014).
German Society in the U.S.
Up until the end of World War I, Germans living in the United States were considered to be a well
integrated and an esteemed part of society. They would not receive any hate or discrimination from
fellow Americans. They also made and maintained many groups, these could be anything ... Show

They would live in cities and states with Germans names, many of them would send their children to
schools were they would receive education in German as well as in English. Call for cultural ethnic
cleansing of German Americans became more of a common thing, this came because they were not
trusted. The sinking of the Lusitania only made things worse for the German Americans. They felt
threatened due to the growing of anti German sentiments, and many would change the ways they
would live their life in order to seem more patriotic, they would go even as far as changing their name,
stopping the use of their native language outside of home. They removed any trace of heritage and
became fully American. This put the end to many German language and cultural institutions in the
United States and the Midwest. But this was only the beginning, they banned the use of German
Languages in places such as universities, libraries, schools, and public services (Steenbergen,

  • 2. My Duty For Volunteering At Virginia Commonwealth... Over the course of a month, I dedicated time to volunteer with agencies that focus on providing safe and productive programs for children. Stop Child Abuse Now also known as SCAN, focuses on stopping/preventing child abuse in homes. This agency teams with many different agencies around Richmond to help parents and children coop and learn way to avoid situations of abuse. My duty for volunteering was teaming with Virginia Commonwealth University Health Services and making SCAN a known organization throughout Richmond community. VCU threw a wellness block party that included many different health services but also gave members of the community to learn and seek help with many different organizations that were there promoting their business or organization. I sat with one other girl and passed out flyers and contact information to those who were interested in the organizations. I explained to individuals what the program was about and the benefits of the program. I had one particular interaction with this young mother who explained she was in a situation where children were being abused and the authorities were notified and now she s seeking counseling for her and the children involved. I and the other young lady volunteering with me were able to give her information on the program and also contact numbers to individuals that could help her situation. This young woman was very grateful and happy she found an organization that could assist her with her situation. From this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Examples Of Light And Light In A Streetcar Named Desire Darkness and light have been used as symbols in various literary works throughout history from meaningful lines in the first book of the bible to powerful statements in modern literature. These two naturally opposing forces are displayed in literary texts to exemplify the ever continuing battles of good vs. evil, illusion vs. reality, happiness vs. misery, or love vs. hate. Most of these external struggles are shown especially in Tennessee Williams A Streetcar Named Desire. There are instances in life where some matters can be hidden, but others need to be exposed. Throughout the play, Williams is constantly describing characters, symbols, and themes with the motif light vs. dark. The idea of light vs. dark is evidently shown through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... dark is also used throughout the play to help convey the theme illusion vs. reality. One example of this is the paper lantern. Blanche covers the exposed light bulb in the Kowalski s apartment with a chinese paper lantern. I bought this adorable little paper lantern, put it over the light bulb! (60). Blanche s colored paper lantern was a approach to create her own beautiful world to mask the hideous reality that she does not want to deal with. However, when Mitch finds out the truth about Blanche, she finally admits that she tried to disguise the harsh reality. I don t want realism. I want magic. Yes, yes magic! (117). Another example how darkness and light express this theme is Stanley Kowalski s violent nature. In the beginning of the play, he is displayed as a likeable person, as he is faithful to his friends and passionate about his wife. However, Stanley s pleasant and good natured character is found to be harsh and detrimental. Later in the play, he beats his wife and rapes his sister in law. Williams displays his true image when describing Stanley s monstrous and menacing shadows that appear on the wall before he rapes Blanche. This theme is also shown by Stanley s wife, Stella ... Expeditiously, the search for a replacement commenced and the board of directors found Doug Jeffers, a well known interior designer, to replace Fortuga as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). A charismatic, hard working, and well connected individual, Jeffers appeared qualified through his innovative approach to lead the company to new heights. Analysis of Leadership Strategies Due to his past success, one could presume Jeffers management approach would be inspirational, and his community profile renders him as an authentic and charismatic leader. In fact, he degraded employees, ignored other s sentiments and notions, determined strategic decisions unaided, disregarded company policies, and discounted the need for work and life balance. As a result, Jeffers personified the negative characteristics of charismatic leaders, and he is the antithesis of the positive attributes. However, the public s perception of Jeffers did not translate over to the team at Fortuga. In fact, he was distal to feedback and disregarded company policies these traits embody a charismatic leader (Spahr, 2016). If Jeffers were a charismatic leader, he would be an effective communicator, build trust, and influence those around him to become devout followers (Riggio, 2012). Comparing the Emplementation and Scrutinizing of Proposed Bills in the House of Commons and Congress This essay will examine how two institutions, namely the House of Commons and Congress, which are supposed to serve the same process, differ widely in the way they implement and scrutinise proposed bills. The essay will examine the relationship between the legislature and the executive; the importance of the party; and the constitutional arrangements which give each legislature very different characteristics. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A $1.7 trillion annual budget and congressional decentralization through the committee system allows lawmakers to specialize and make decisions on a wide range of complex topics. This is very different to the House of Commons (HoC), which has a much smaller budget and a less rigorous committee system. The rigorous nature of the Congressional committee system (CCS) could be seen as advantageous since it allows detailed legislation on potentially complex topics to be written. However, the composition of the committee may not be unbiased, and once the legislation has been drafted it must be ratified by the rest of Congress. Since the CCS is so important to the USlegislative process the membership of the committees requires careful consideration. The composition, range of interests, and the scope of their policies are determined by the members. If a committee were full of like minded people that were not socially representative of the people the policies concern, then it is feasible for the democratic process to be undermined. Furthermore, the quality of the resulting bill is highly dependent on the ability of the committee members. To counter these potentially negative influences the bill must be ratified by Congress once it leaves the Committee phase. With 535 members of Congress it can be very ... Even though this strategy worked in the past it may not be the best strategy moving forward, as there are advantages and disadvantages to this strategy. One advantage of this strategy is that the tentpole films attract movie going customers that think of the movies more as an event rather than just a film they want to see. A $200 million movie is more likely than a $20 million movie to have elements that appeal to moviegoers to have special value for them. , said Horn. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Having five independent sub studios also creates its own set of issues. Directors and executives not being on the same page is one of the issues that has the potential to be the most costly. In the case of Inside Out they made beneficial changes to the movie late in the process after executives viewed the cut of the movie. In this case, executives working with sub studios benefitted the finished product, however, it creates and environment in which if executives and directors have different views of where a movie should go or how characters should be portrayed it could lead to a complete teardown and reshoot of a movie which would waste time and possibly risk missing a release date of a major tentpole movie. Another challenge that arises when sub studios are involved is division of resources, which could lead to lower quality movies by not having all creative minds working on a particular movie. For example, Disney live action has had the biggest percentage of failures versus all of the other labels. Marvel and Lucasfilm have had tremendous success in creating universes in which their movies can take place and add on to. This can be seen in the Star Wars universe or the Marvel universe. The creative minds that developed the ideas to base these movies could be beneficial to the Disney live action brand but the separation of resources keeps collaboration of creative minds from happening. The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) instituted some key changes in the rules of the game following the 2000 Olympics games, which were held in Sidney, Australia. The amendments were mainly aimed at enhancing the game s viability as a spectator sport that could be televised. Among the new changes was the increasing of the ball s diameter to 40 millimeters. Soon thereafter, the ITTF changed the game s scoring system from 21 point to 11 point system (International Table Tennis Federation, 2014). The serve rotation was also brought down from five points to two. Soon thereafter, the global federation of the game changed the rules and effectively prohibited players from hiding balls during service. In keeping with the sport s spirit of fairness, the rules cushions opponents from being caught by surprise. Rules require that the ball must be tossed a minimum of 16 centimeters in the air before being served. There are rules governing the course of events during a match including which team takes the first serve. In order to highlight the numerous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The title of the poem derives from a speech in the famous Shakespeare play, Macbeth, and it signifies the ephemeral nature of life. The writer depicts this behind a scenic, Vermont countryside, offsetting the horror that this accident caused. The author also uses many other ways to evoke a sense of horror in this poem. For example, the poem uses many literary devices (such as personification, alliteration etc.), techniques and phrases to emit horror throughout the poem. Furthermore, the writer succeeds in creating a sense of horror through the buzzsaw by making the accident seem very unexpected, as the quote As it ran light, or had to bear a load. And nothing happened shows just how unprecedented the accident was, and it describes the fact that the buzzsaw never did anything of the manner. This in turn further adds to the overall shock value of the poem, and makes for a devastatingly horrific description of the buzzsaw and the accident. Overall, the writer succeeds in creating a sense of horror through the poem by using many different and useful techniques. He uses descriptive words, phrases and techniques such as caesura, iambic pentameter and more, gradually reveals the gravity of the accident through changing the tone, and presents the buzzsaw in a scary manner by using emotive language and dramatic phrases. His second blessing would provide him and his family with a place to call home. His third blessing states that Abraham will have a relationship with God. This means that, anyone who blesses Abraham will be blessed by God, anyone that curses him will be cursed. The Community Stability Act ( Csa ) Essay The Community Stability Act (CSA) is a policy designed to reduce housing transiency in low income urban and rural communities by providing housing subsidies to low income families, and financial assistance to families at risk of or experiencing eviction. The CSA will alleviate poverty through removing the various stressors associated with housing transiency, and have subsidiary effects related to education and economic opportunity. This policy is predicated on one key understanding. It is indisputable that the nature of the housing market has changed most urban low income households are spending a significant portion of their income ( 50%) on housing expenses. The present is an aberration of long held expectations that housing costs should not exceed 30% of one s income and it needs to be addressed. However, the problem of housing costs is multifaceted, and addressing it requires systemic changes (augmenting the power dynamic between labor and capital in the U.S., fixating on public and affordable housing rather than private development) that would not be practical in the current political environment, or in the foreseeable future. This policy, in contrast, derives its attractiveness from how it can be framed, and the widespread effects (from a geographical and socioeconomic perspective) that it will have. Gloria Anzaldúa and Sandra Cisneros are two notorious Mexican American writers that wrote extensively about cultural borders and expectations. Anzaldúa came from the Mexico Texas border, was a cultural and feminist theorist as well as English scholar, while Cisneros also comes from a Latino background and speaks from her cultural hybridity to illustrate cultural expectations. In this paper, I will use Anzaldúa s Borderlands / La Frontera as a lens for Cisnero s short story, Woman Hollering Creek to draw connections of cultural and gender expectations between two different genres of text. Anzaldúa uses ethos as a cultural theory studier to illustrate that culture forces us to make our beliefs and that expectations create a power struggle in her culture. She claimed that Culture forms our beliefs. (Anzaldúa 38) And that Culture is made by those in power men. Males make the rules and laws; women transmit them. She asserts that The culture expects women to show greater acceptance of, and commitment to, the value system than man. However, in HD patients metabolic dysfunction is commonplace (Morton, 2013). A study using transgenic R6/2 mice, which were designed to imitate conditions similar to HD, has shown that the mice exhibit dysfunction and disconnection of the peripheral clocks from the SCN s control (Maywood et al., 2010). These mice exhibited liver function that was characterized by loss of circadian control. The liver plays a crucial role in maintaining metabolic homeostasis, so this could be a possible explanation to the metabolic dysfunction that is seen so often in HD. If the peripheral clocks are disoriented from the central rhythms, then this can result in different body systems no longer working as effectively as when they are in sync. Furthermore, research has also revealed that circadian function within the SCN is also directly affected by HD. In another study using R6/2 mice, it was found that the mice night day ratios were abnormal, revealing circadian disruption (Morton et al., 2005). In addition to their activity patterns, the mice SCN activity were also directly measured using electrodes and a clamp. After monitoring, it was found that the expression of their clock genes was severely disrupted. While knowing that circadian rhythms directly within the SCN are altered in organisms with HD is an essential step to find the most efficient treatment to normalize these organisms, it does not reveal the way in which Huntington s ... This is likely due to the fact that there are more possible ages within the 65+ age group than the other age groups. Comparisons a) Explain the main differences in the shapes of the two histograms. In the Indigenous histogram, there is a distinct decrease in population as age increases, thus there is a right skew, whereas the non Indigenous histogram shows no correlation between age and population, except for the 65+ age group, thus the histogram is flat with a right tail.
  • 39. b) What do the histograms tell you about the age of Indigenous and non Indigenous people in Australia in 2011? The Indigenous histogram shows that there is a significant reduction in population as age increases, thus there is a negative correlation. The non Indigenous histogram suggests that age has very little influence on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Personal Service Experience In High School Or Community Sarah: Thanks for doing this Please look for not only edits but be brutal with criticism. Let me know if you think I satisfied this prompt *** when you find a website called grammarphobia Describe a personal service experience in your high school or community, what you gained from this experience and how it reflects the unique values of the Siena Albany Medical College Program (650 word max). High school, for most students, is a time of change and development. You not only discover more about yourself, such as your ambitions, dreams and desires, but you also realize a greater purpose for your life. Being raised in a Catholic family, there was a great importance put on serving the less fortunate and loving our neighbors. I repeatedly hear the Sermon on the Mount which encourages the followers of Christ to follow His footsteps and to be salt and light in the world. Taking the values of my faith, I decided take my service to a greater height: starting fundraisers. In tenth grade, my English teacher posed the class with a question: what are you going to do for your community? She emphasized the importance of making a positive impact, even if it meant simply smiling as you hold the door open for someone. She prompted us to go out of our comfort zone and do something for our community. While I had been volunteering at Church and at school, I had never really taken a step out of my comfort zone. Instead of just helping out in, say, a soup kitchen, I decided that it was time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Bertie And Lionel Logue In The King s Speech And A... The contrast between Bertie and Lionel Logue in The King s Speech and John Nash and Charles Herman in A Beautiful Mind. In The King s Speech and A Beautiful Mind the contrast between the characters whom I will be discussing is evident. The King s Speech and A Beautiful Mind are both highly recommended films. The director makes use of film techniques such as mise en scene and cinematography as well as the use of subtle but effective imagery that reflect the emotions that the characters are feeling at a certain point in the film. The film techniques are used in such a way so as to enhance the viewer s empathy for the characters as well as to better portray the emotions that the characters are feeling in the film. Both films make use of contrast which is the state of being strikingly different from something else in juxtaposition or close association. The contrast was created in the films to show how uptight, awkward and introverted the main characters of these films and are by making them have close relationships with a side character who is outgoing, confident and extraverted. The King s Speech is my favourite of the two films. The film follows Prince Albert AKA Bertie as he battles his speech impediment that he had since he was a child of 5 years. He and his wife Elizabeth seek help from Lionel Logue who is an Australian actor and speech therapist to try and overcome his stammer. The two are very different in the sense that they come from two very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Burton Chapter 4 One thematic motif that emerges in chapter 6 of Burton and chapter 4 of Olstein is the concept of connections and genealogy. Specifically, in chapter 4 of Olstein, he discusses the use of comparing and connecting as a historiographical methodology that has been both used and challenged by historians since its creation. In addition, in chapter 6 of Burton, she is discussing genealogy or the history of how X or Y came to be, was shaped, emerged (Burton, pg. 73). In other words, Burton contextualizes genealogy by defining it as a backstory. In chapter 4 of Olstein, he notes early in the chapter, that comparative history has been on the defense since its institutionalization (Olstein, pg. 83). This demonstrates that this is a highly contested historical methodology that is yet to be widely accepted by historians. This might have to do with various historian s interpretations of what comparative and connective history means. For example, Sanjay Subrahmanyan disagrees with Victor Lieberman s ... In other words, Subrahmanyan sees Lierberman s work as merely comparing and contrasting different regions and argues that there is greater importance in looking at how each region is not only different but also are connected through various means, such as for trade. Olstein quantifies comparative history by stating it must have at least two units to compare, and that comparative history is quantitative more than conceptual (Olstein, pg. 88). Through this analysis of two or more units, we see that comparative history is converging with another methodology that Olstein discusses in other chapters, which is historical sociology. • 44. Social Acceptance In Death Of A Salesman In Arthur Miller s play Death of a Salesman, through the character of Linda Loman, the author suggests that one s status (Social Acceptance, Employment/Work) is a main contributor to one s success. When Linda totals the amount they owe in bills and Willy worries about the business he says, Oh I ll knock em dead next week. I ll go to Hartford. I m well liked in Hartford. You know, the trouble is, Linda, people don t seem to take to me (23). Here, Miller confirms and proves that Willy is constantly worrying about his social status and how others view him. Universally all humans worry about their status and just like Willy some blame their lack of success on the fact that they are not liked by society. Furthermore, when Willy is talking ... • 46. Henry Turner Superego Freud believes there is three parts of a person s personality, the Id, Ego and Superego. The Id is the portion of the brain that is based on a pleasure principle , meaning that this is the part that controls a person s craving and wants. There is also the Ego which is based on the reality principle , meaning this is the section of your brain telling you how it really is and saying you can t have something based on the present situation. Lastly, there is the Superego which is based on moral principle , meaning that you can t have something your Id wants because it is morally wrong. Henry Turner was living a fairly normal life, till one day his Id took over and he wanted some cigarettes and when he went to purchase them something unexpected happened. A man was trying to rob him, but Henry wouldn t give up his money and tried running away and got shot twice. He was able to live through, but when he came back, he wasn t able to be himself, he couldn t walk, talk or remember anything about him or his life. One of them would be in the Energy sector, which would make two positive differences to the Canadian society. Currently, the energy (electricity generation) sector in Canada is facing a major crisis, which is the fear of running out of world s natural resources to produce electricity. Even though the Canadian government is promoting renewable resources, it will take a long time to establish a network that is completely dependent on renewable resources. In the meantime, the population of Canada is growing drastically and cities such as Toronto is struggling to meet the rising demand for electricity due to urbanization. ... • 48. Sediment Contamination Sediments are formed from fine grained waste material due to erosion from the mine site. It often contains dissolved metals as a result of the mining processes containing some toxic constituents such as lead and high levels of mercury. During severe storm events and high snowmelt periods, erosion transports a significant amount of sediments and chemicals pollutants into locals streams. Dissolved metals often settle under the stream bed and cause decreases in macroinvertebrate and benthic invertebrate populations. Metal accumulation in aquatic organisms, particularly benthic species, can also lead to acute and chronic toxicity to aquatic life [EPA 35]. In addition, research has shown a correlation between an increase in suspended solids with a decrease in density of macroinvertebrate and benthic invertebrate populations. High turbidity can also reduce passages of light and prevent photosynthetic activity of aquatic plants [EPA 34 35]. Aquatic plants are a major food source for macroinvertebrates and benthic invertebrates. The reduction of plants can stimulate further declines in aquatic life populations. ... Physical impact associated with mining includes the filling of deep pools that can result in the loss of habitat and temperature increases [EPA 35]. Excess sediment can build up behind dams and raise reservoir water levels. In addition to this, sedimentation can also cause the channel to widen and become shallower.
