Essay on Maria Martinez and Her Pueblo Pottery
Maria Martinez and Her Pueblo Pottery
One of the most well known figures of the twentieth century pottery world is Maria Martinez. Maria
Martinez is a Pueblo Indian part of the San Ildefondo tribe. Pueblo pottery from the American
Southwest holds a unique place in ceramic art forms of American art. It is full of age old tradition and
culture handed down form family members and potters of the past. The old Pueblo ways of creating it
still hold true today and have not been changed or influenced like so many other styles in modern
times.
One of the amazing factors involving Maria Martinez s work has been the incredible length of time
that she has spent in producing her pottery. Her life has been spent learning, ... Show more content on

The challenge of the task took over the need to make new work or simply utilitarian work. It became
her focal point of all her pottery work and effort. The work was an old style. One more labor intensive
and eventually discarded. As with many other art forms, the original format is often considered less
effective because it produces fewer actual pieces or the intended art. In reality, the tenacious effort
applied in careful traditional processes allows the soul of the artist to infuse the artwork with the true
intended meaning. It has been termed, ? black on Black? work. (Peterson 23)
?Black on Black? sounds as though it may be an unimaginative concept, however, on the contrary it is
truly subtle work, as a matte finish black surface is balanced and blended with a shiner, polychrome
black. Could it be that the juxtaposition of the finishes serves as a metaphor for light in the darkness
compared to flat darkness? Only Maria truly knows. It is almost as though a soft black is shadowed
next to a bright one and the combination of both, create a piece visually greater that is the two finishes
were to stand alone on two separate pieces. Therefore, what Maria has created in what at first seems to
be a simple piece of ceramics, is actually a representation of her own views on spirituality and beauty
(Peterson 37).
By 1918, the years of effort, hard work, and dedication to their passion had paid off for Maria and her
husband Julian. The two had perfected

Medical Case Scenarios
Today Dyana and Adriana wanted me to practice taking a client into the exam room, taking a history
doing everything for the dog. They wanted me to do this appointment from start to finish. They
wanted me to do this client because she was a woman that had previously worked at our clinic and
knew that there were students there to practice. The patients name was Rocky; he was a puppy coming
in for his third booster. I didn t want to be alone so I told Patty if she can watch over me to see if I do
everything correctly. I took the patients record sheet and went out to the front to call the owner and the
patient to come in. I call out Rocky your appointment is ready tell the client hello and show her to the

the dog had been previously seen a few weeks ago so usually not much has changed. I was very

The Monument Of The Tomb Of Emperor Qin
The monument of the Tomb of Emperor Qin tells us about early Chinese religious beliefs and
practices. The mound itself remains unexcavated except for some test trenches, but researchers believe
it contains a vast underground funerary palace designed to match the fabulous palace the emperor
occupied in life. It was not taken into account the seriously until the discovery of pits around the tomb
filled with more than 6,000 life size painted terracotta figures of soldiers and horses, as well as bronze
horses and chariots. The terracotta army served as the First Emperor s bodyguard deployed in
perpetuity outside the tomb. Funeral Banner of the Marquise of Dai tells us about early Chinese
religious belief and practice. The T shaped silk banner ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Daoism emerged out of the metaphysical teachings attributed to Laozi. Daoist philosophy stresses
an intuitive awareness, nurtured by harmonious contact with nature, and shuns everything artificial.
Daoists seek to follow the universal path or principle, called the Dao, whose features cannot be
described but only suggested through analogies. Dao is said to be like water, always yielding but
eventually wearing away the hard stone that does not yield. The strengths in Daoists, comes from
flexibility and inaction. Historically, Daoist principles encouraged retreat from society in favor a
personal cultivar of the ying and yang. This making a perfect balance between yang, which are the
active masculine energy, and yin, passive feminine energy. Confucianism discuss their role in Chinese
society by empathy for suffering, pursuit of morality and justice, respect for ancient ceremonies, and
adherence to traditional social relationships, such as those between parent and child, elder and
younger sibling, husband and wife, and ruler and subject. Stressing that the deference to age and rank
that is at the heart of the Confucian social order brings a reciprocal responsibility. For example, a king
s legitimacy depends on the goodwill of his people. A ruler should share his joys with his subjects and
will know his laws are unjust if they bring suffering to the people. Confucianism had a profound

Technology In Flowers For Algernon
Humans have created technology to benefit our lives. Technology helps our lives by accomplishing
tasks that are difficult without it. Occasionally, devices make problems for us. In Flowers for Algernon
Charlie had an operation to become smart but only temporarily. He learned the truth of certain parts of
his life which gave him pained him more than helping him. In The Veldt technology was misused and
killed the parents of the Hadley family. The Sea Devil had difficulties when the man caught the wrong
fish. His net becomes an issue because the fish pulls him into the lake nearly drowning him while
being attached to his hand. In the story by Stuart Mclean, Dave is unable to send Christmas cards to
friends as a result of being incapable of taking the letters out of a mail box.
Flowers for Algernon has a difficulty with technology when Charlie s brain begins to deteriorate.
Scientist Dr. Nemur and neurologist/psychiatrist Dr. Strauss did an operation on Charlie to higher his
I.Q. At first, the surgery seemed to be a huge success making Charlie even more intelligent than
themselves. Later in the novel, Charlie realizes his intelligence deteriorates and names it the Algernon
Gordon Effect . The operation did successfully able him to learn at an extreme rate although, the more
he learned, the faster his new intelligence would disappear. The technology made Charlie smart for
only a limited amount of time, this becomes burden on him. Charlie realized how his colleagues truly

Black Lung
The black lung movement was a movement formed in the late 1960 s in which the miners fought for
the health benefits to cover black lung disease. Black lung is directly caused by mining and working
with coal. Mildred Mullins wrote this poem and hung it on the coffin of her dead husband in the
Capital to display what was going on, Compensation we are asking, While alive and still gasping;
When life is o er and hymns are sung, Then they ll know we have black lung.( Charleston Gazette 15)
The miners felt that since their job caused this disease that they should be compensated for it. The coal
companies felt that mining did not cause this lung disease and that the miners were just making it up.

Blasting itself produced immense quantities of mineral particles. The common practice of returning to
the work face soon after the detonation of charges meant entering an area filled with particulate
matter. (Derickson 3) Also, as labors transported, unloaded, and cleaned the extracted material dust
was inhaled even though they were away from the mine. So no matter what technique used the coal
dust still made it in the air and into the miners lungs. There were no safety regulations in place about
how long to wait after blowing up coal, no regulations about how many particulates in the air were
safe, no mask or safety precautions and no mandatory venting. Although some of these things were
easily usable to the safety the company felt it was too costly. An elaborate system of fans and blowers
was too costly , so the miner had to pay for the bad ventilating by miners asthma and other ailments
caused by bad air. (Derickson 4) Basically the coal operators did not care enough about the miners
safety to provide vents and things that could have helped the air quality. Once black lung was
discovered the movement began. Three studies done by the U.S. Public Health Service between 1924
and 1945 failed to bring recognition of black lung as a problematic condition. American medical
opinion was that miner s asthma reflected a normal condition of mine work and actually posed no
serious problems. Some doctors even went so far as to claim that coal

Pros And Cons Of The Battle For Madagascar s Liberation
With the end of the battle for Madagascar s liberation, there were positives and negatives outcomes.
Even though Nyasaland KAR forces helped defeat the Vichy forces and had retaken control of the
island for the British, the tactics the Vichy forces used throughout the battle slowed the Allies
momentum. According to an article written by Time Magazine, after the battle was over, Governor
General Armand L. Annet had not been able to offer the British much war, but at the bidding of Pierre
Laval he had done the next best thing. By forcing the British to take each port in turn and to march to
each inland city, then by stalling on armistice terms, Annet had kept some British land and sea forces
from fighting Germans and Japanese as long as he possibly

Arguments For Illegal Immigrants
The issue of illegal immigrants has raised heated debate in the U.S., after President Trump clarified his
stand on immigration. He maintained that under his plan, there is no legalization path for the illegal
immigrants that reside here currently, unless it is that they have served in the armed forces. Presently,
it is estimated that there are over 11 million illegal / undocumented immigrants in the United States.
He plans to have them deported and once returned home, then may they apply for re entry. The 1952
Act of Immigration and Nationality, defines illegal immigrants also known as illegal aliens as
individuals who are not U.S. nationals or citizens. Some of these undocumented people, have lived in
the U.S. for many years and even raised families here. Although, some may argue that the illegal
immigrants are a burden to the nation s economy and keep wages lower. They have contributed
towards building this country for decades and significantly contribute to state taxes. I feel it would be
impractical and inhumane to deport all illegal immigrants. The U.S. government should offer the
illegal aliens a path to obtain citizenship or legal residency.
Why Give Illegal Immigrants Legal Residency/Citizenship?
Providing a path to the undocumented persons to earn citizenship would greatly benefit the U.S.
economy. Economic experts have revealed that the immigrants residing and working in the country
without authorization earn less income than their potential, pay fewer

Customer Service And Customer Loyalty
In my opinion our company is relatively strong in 2 of the 4 characteristics of analytic competitor as
described in the text. Our goal as company is to be superior in customer service and customer loyalty.
To that end we have tools developed that assist everyone in the company and we are committed, from
the CEO down to line level team member, to review the same statistics used for continuous
improvement. Where we lack strength is having a distinctive capability and due to some system
limitations in data warehousing, we still do quite a bit of individual reporting. Prior to working for this
company I worked at the Well Established Casino (WEC) organization for 10 years. I learned quite a
bit about standard reporting at WEC. Digging into how things worked and what interpretations were
used to categorize casino player behavior was very rewarding. While WEC was superior in bucketing
and appropriately setting expectations in future customer behavior, their reporting lacked some details
preventing marketing operations from quickly responding to outlier influences and climate changes in
the industry. I moved onto HTC where most of the reporting was financial in nature. Having opened
newer casino properties our corporate structure did not immediately embrace the need for marketing
analysis to potentially improve revenue streams that were already robust enough. I came on board
with HTC in late 2010 as the Regional Director of Marketing Analysis when they opened casino
number two.

Distribution of UV Light across the Globe
The following image (Figure 1) represents a map of the world on which the UV light Index has been
superimposed. The latitudes are shown on the left (latitude helps define a location on Earth,
specifically how far north or south of the equator a site is).
Questions
4. Does the amount of UV light reaching the Earth vary in a predictable manner? If so, describe the
pattern you observe. 5. What latitude receives the greatest amount of UV light? The least? 6. Based on
these data, where might you expect to find the most lightly pigmented and most darkly pigmented
people on the planet? Be as specific as you can. 7. Provide a rationale to your answer above (i.e., why
did you think that more darkly pigmented people would be found in those areas)?

The Legalization Of Hard Drugs

A Case for the Legalization of Hard Drugs in the U.S.
The issue of drug abuse is a sad reality in every community, and drug prohibition is present across the
globe. Whether it is under the guise of protection of family values, or public safety, prohibition
disrupts more than it maintains. Many people view drugs as a problem but they can also be viewed as
a problem solver. This essay will address the socioeconomic issues with prohibition of hard drugs, and
argue for their legalization.
Prohibition crowds prisons with non violent criminals, exposing otherwise innocent civilians to the
dangers of prison life, and the mental and physical damage it does to not only their own livelihoods,
but to their families as well. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, in 2011, out of 197,050
inmates in federal prisons, 94,600 were incarcerated for drug related charges, while only 14,900 for
violent offenses. That equates to 48% of the entire federal prison population being incarcerated for
drugs, with violent offenders only adding to 7.56%. The FBI states that of all drug arrests in 2011,
81.8% were for simple possession, the remaining 18.2% for sale and distribution. Therefore, there are
over 77,000 federal inmates that were non violent civilians, whose only crime was carrying an illicit
substance. With legalization (or at least decriminalization), neither the risk of incarceration nor the
risk in becoming involved with illegal, and often

The Collapse Of The Minoan
One may ask, who are the Minoans? Well they are considered by many Historians and Archeologists
to be the first great European Civilization. Some people believed that this was the mythical land of
Atlantis. They were located near the Aegean Sea and lands such as Greece, Troy and Asia Minor. One
interesting fact is that these people never called themselves the Minoans. There wasn t any name listed
in the history books for these people but the Ancient Crete Civilization. They were known as the Crete
Civilization because they lived on the island of Crete which is now part of Greece. It wasn t until a
19th century British Archeologist, Sir Author Evans gave them the name, The Minoans. He gave them
this name because he believed he had found the legendary palace of King Minos. There has been
many civilization collapses over the World s history, but most can be explained in great detail. There
are some that are very mysterious and not definitively explained. The collapse of the Minoan people
happens to be one of those mysterious collapses which ranks 3rd in the top ten most mysterious
collapses of the world and is still to this day debated on what actually caused their demise. There are
many factors that go into the collapse of a civilization, but this kind of catastrophe doesn t just happen
in a blink of an eye this is something that happens over a long period of time. This paper will touch on
the climate and environment, the time period and culture, how they became

Opposition To Nazi Regime
Despite the fact all opposition to the Nazi Regime recorded ended in perpetrators going to
concentration camps and, in all likelihood, executed, opposition to the Nazi Regime was
unquestionably significant. There were groups who dedicated a great deal of their time opposing the
Nazi Regime while others took up years planning assassinations of Hitler. Considering the fact that
anything significant is sufficiently great or important and worthy of attention, means that with the
countless amounts of reported cases and how important they were, and are, to many people including
citizens, Nazis, Hitler, and even modern day studies, there is no question that many of the opposition,
if not all, was and is absolutely significant. In spite of Hitler

Analysis Of The Miraculous Mandarin
The Miraculous Mandarin is a one acted ballet composed by Béla Bartók. Béla Bartók is a Hungarian
composer, who was born on March 25, 1881 and is now one of the most important composers of the
20th century. He grew up with his parents and sister, Erzsébet in a small town called Nagyszentmiklós,
Austria Hungary. Then moved to Nagyszölös when his father, Béla Bartók died. When Béla was 28 he
lived with his first wife Marta Zeigler and his son Béla jr. After 15 years of marriage he divorced and
married a Ditta Pásztory, a piano student, who was 19 at the time and he was 42. He then had another
son named Péter. Béla once was an amazing composer, pianist and folk song collector, who died on
September 26, 1945. He learned the piano with his mother, Paula Voit and afterwards went to study
with István Thomán. He also composed under János Koessier at The Royal Academy of Music in
Budapest. His parents knew he had a special eye for composing because at age four he learned how to
play 40 different songs on the piano with no professional music lessons and at nine years old he would
make up small, little dance pieces for his whole family to watch. Before Béla was a famous composer,
in 1907 he took his first few steps in his career as a piano teacher in The Royal Academy for more
then 25 years. In 1917 he working as a composer. He composed one of his first major orchestral work
in 1903. He named this piece Kossuth after Lajos Kossuth, a beloved childhood, Hungarian Hero. But
after The Fine Arts Commission Competition, Béla took a little break from composing. He wrote very
little for about two to three years. Instead of composing he went on an expedition to collected folk
music. But the outbreak of World War 1 stop him from his search for Hungarian music, so he was
forced to return to composing. He made a comeback with The Wooden Prince and the String Quartet
No. 2 which were inspired by Debussy. After another year he came out with a new ballet called The
Miraculous Mandarin. It s a story about prostitution, robbery and murder. It was premiered in 1926 in

The Strategy Of Zynga Is A Social Game With The Support Of...
Summary
Zynga was the leader in the social game with the support of Facebook. The demographic
representation of the social games extends to women and elderly. The lack of creativity of Zynga
pushes the consumer away. This decline is also due to the fact Zynga had failed to change its strategy
toward the mobile platform. Zynga relies its sales on virtual goods, which are very limited and
difficult in the mobile environment. A lack of diversity to another social network and its subordination
to Facebook was also an issue. Zynga s relationship with Facebook, which imposes the use of
Facebook credits on its application, causes the collapse of the organization. Moreover, Zynga was
object of competition from different players
The strategy of Zynga is offer free games in order to sell virtual goods by exploiting the marketing
possibilities of the games. In this perspective, Zynga uses Facebook as the social media platform to
access data from different users.
Question 1
Despite its dependence on Facebook, Zynga would be a good marketing platform. First, Zynga has
300 million active users. Thus, Zynga controls large and diverse geographic and ethnic users that
extend to women and elderly. The company has the ability to target and segment customers. For this
reason, Zynga relies on data analytics to increase and retain online gamers. In consequences,
marketers will profit the same data analytics to increase sales.

President Richard Nixon s Watergate Scandal
Watergate Scandal
In the 1970s the Watergate Scandal was one of the biggest events in U.S history. It brought down
many people that colluded for this crime. The importance of this scandal is greatly because of
President Richard Nixon and what he did. These people committed a shameful crime and it should be
remembered in U.S history. People of today should take the time to learn about this as it is very vital
to any future events like it. I would hope they study it and apply it for tomorrow s problems.
Knowledge is power and the more readers learn about this can help prevent things like this happening

There are many facts about the Watergate affair that readers should know. The first of many is that in

included obstruction of justice, abuse of powers, and more. Nixon was the first U.S President to

The aftermath of Watergate included many officials being charged and found guilty. There were 69
government officials charged and 48 found guilty. Since Nixon and many senior officials involved in
Watergate were lawyers, the scandal severely tarnished the public image of the legal profession.

What Is The Connection Between A Tale Of Television And...
Technology consumes the society Bradbury has created, and determines the behavior of the
community he has created. The television consumes Mildred along with every other dependent
conformist in their time. The people are so absorbed by the television that the families portrayed
through the shows, that they are psychologically engulfed into the television families. Mildred even
displays this when Bradbury writes, Will you turn the parlor off? He asked. That s my family. Will you
turn it off for a sick man? I ll turn it down. (Bradbury 49) MIldred s connections to her fabricated
family is more important than her actual family. The subjugation of the television families is such a
convoluted concept. This immense confusion is only sensibly comparable to one character, Chief
Beatty. Beatty s knowledge of literature is used to disprove the importance of literature to others. He is
willing to defend the equalization of society while he is educated himself, and rejects the use of books
as weapons while reading them whenever he pleases. Due to these contradicting concepts in his life,
Beatty is the most convoluted and mysterious character in the novel.
The peculiar connection of the society Bradbury creates to television and technology is the leading
cause for the conformist society. Communication has lost every sense of its meaning. The little
communication present is with a fake family on a television. Parlors have transformed into group
television watching, and the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Auto Enforcement System
ABSTRACT
Auto Enforcement System (AES) is a tracking system that automatically detects traffic offenses using
sensors and imaging system that captures photo and video images of traffic violations. It was a system
that created by human. The main function of this system is to monitor the traffic in black spot areas
which accident always occurs. For example, AES camera can cover offense such as speeding that

Dr. Kant s Argument
Savulescu s argument also has some flaws in regards to his responses to a few possible objections he
talked about. One objection that Savulescu responds to is the objection that genes are pleiotropic
meaning they have different effects on different parts of the body (The Ethical Life, 454). The
example given was that a gene that prompts depression might also be responsible for heightened
creativity and productivity (The Ethical Life, 454). Savulescu s response to that was that we would
have to limit interventions until our knowledge grows and we would have to do more adequate
research before expanding the types of interventions (The Ethical Life, 454). The problem with that is
that it requires experimenting and testing on children and embryos which would be treating them as a
means to an end rather than an end in itself. Kant would agree and say that these children exist as an
end in itself, not merely as a means to be used by this or that will at its discretion (Kant, 96).
Savulescu is suggesting research on children and embryos in order to reach the goal of allowing
genetic enhancement. He is using them as a means to his end result. This is a major flaw as Kant
would argue that treating people as an end is showing them the respect they deserve while treating
them as a means is just dealing with them so that they can help to achieve the person s goal (Shafer
Landau, 174). Therefore, a child should never be treated as a means to an end to help reach a goal for

Israeli Settlements And The New U.S. Administration. The
Israeli Settlements and the New U.S. Administration The focus of this essay will be the construction
of new Israeli settlements in the West Bank region and whether or not Israelis think the Trump
Administration supports these new settlements. This is an important topic because Israeli settlement
building has been a major issue preventing Israelis and Palestinians from coming to a peace
agreement. Also in Assignment 1, I referred to this issue as a possible limitation to my prospective trip
to Jerusalem so I would like to further research the issue here. I will be using three main sources for
this essay: Al Jazeera, a regional news organization in the Middle East, Haaretz, an Israeli breaking
news site, and the Jerusalem Post, an Israeli ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article, they ask the same question I posed above: Does Trump support the building of
settlements or is he opposed (JPost Editorial)? The article focuses on his first meeting with Israeli
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump told him that he would like Israel to hold back on
settlements for a little bit...I would like to see a deal made (Trump, JPost Editorial). This statement
would make people assume that he is initially against further settlement building in the West Bank.
Trump also said he is in favor of a solution that involves both Palestine and Israel, which the article
says was common for previous presidents to say. The article also claims that Trump s pick to be the
ambassador to Israel is in favor of building settlements, which I will talk about with another article
below. The writers of this article are confused due to this fact, and say that Trump might not even have
a clear opinion of settlement building yet. The writers want Netanyahu to proceed cautiously in
dealing with Trump as they are not sure of his true intentions. The article closes by calling for more
communication between the countries (JPost). As mentioned in the previous paragraph, President
Trump s pick to be the U.S. ambassador to Israel, David Friedman, is considered a supporter of new
settlement building. An article written by Jonathan Cook and published on Al Jazeera on May 14,
2017 takes a closer look at Friedman. Its

Inferno Research Paper
Inferno Research Paper Anthony K. Cassell stated in his critical essay titled Farinata that the methods
of punishment in Dante s Hell are exquisitely diverse. The cantos in Inferno are focused on Circles or
subdivisions of Hell that describe specific punishments for the suffering souls based upon the sin they
committed. The deeper into Hell, the worse the sins that were committed, therefore the agonies of the
punishments are greater. In Inferno, Dante brings the issue of sin into light by giving instances of sins
he has taken note of. He places the guilty souls at different levels of Hell, depending on which crimes
he believes are the worst to commit, showing how Dante portrayed his understanding of God s justice
(Cassell). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pope Nicholas says he is guilty of simony, so Dante does not pity him. Dante tells him to stay stuck
there, for you are rightly punished (XIX.97). This is when Dante first begins to realize that God s
justice is present is Hell. He then speaks out against all corrupt churchmen, and claims if he were not
restrained, he would use even harsher words. Dante then becomes amazed, if not pleasured, with some
of the punishments. In the Circle containing Thieves, Dante watches in amazement as a serpent bites a
sinner between the shoulders, causing the soul to instantly catch fire, burn up, and then rise from the
ashes to return to the pit of the serpents. In the First Ring of the Ninth Circle of Hell, called Caina,
named after Cain who killed his brother Abel in Genesis, those who betrayed their kin are punished.
The souls must stand in ice frozen up to their heads. Dante witnesses twins frozen face to face, butting
their heads against each other in rage. Dante accidentally kicks Bocca degli Abati in the face, then
leans down to apologize. Once he recognizes this soul, he tears out his hair before leaving him in the
ice. With the constant rebuking from Virgil, Dante has learned to not pity the damned souls. He learns
to reconcile his sympathy for the suffering with the harsh violence of divine justice as he begins to see
that the punishments fit the crimes committed. In Canto VI of Inferno, the Third Circle of Hell rains
filth and excrement, and

Theories of Marx
In this seminar, I seek to analyse, discuss and evaluate the theories of Marx. Firstly, I will analyse the
relationship between human action and social structure. Having completed the analysis, I will move
on further to discuss and exemplify his theory of alienation. Lastly I will evaluate his theory of false
consciousness.
Question 1
Human action and social structure are extremely prevalent in the works of Marx. In terms of the
workers and capitalist classes, he postulates that they are not free but rather actors of the capitalist
system. The workers are forced into labour to make a living, the force of circumstance (Elster,
1986:29) while the capitalist is forced to keep themselves in business. Elster (1986:29) argues that this

He has thus become alienated from normality and has become an appendage of the machine.
In the movie, Daens we see the women and children working on the machines in the factory, not able
to communicate amongst themselves and in the case of the government coming to investigate them,
they weren t able to converse in French as they could only speak Flemish, thus further enforcing the
disconnection factor.
In order to become un alienated and work toward becoming the whole man where everyone is part of
one class, is able to support their family and their every need and has enough free time and is still able
to work as Marx wished in his efforts, the workers would have to take risks to get out of their situation
and keep trying to overthrow capitalism, as in the case of the movie, Daens where we witness them
taking the dead child out on to the streets. This risk however is quickly averted by the capitalists as
they have the means, the money and the knowledge to get their workers back to work. They simply
call in a favour from the local police and then fire all those who marched. The instigator or initial risk
taker (the woman who met Daens) is then punished further with rape as a means of enforcing their
domination over the working class.
Question 3
False consciousness is termed in the context of the work of Marx as a statement of our existence, it is
not our consciousness that determines our existence, but

Marketing Strategies For The Hospitality Industry
The hospitality industry is an industry that heavily relies on the experience economy. It is essential for
hotels and restaurants to gain a competitive advantage through differentiation to create and provide
unique experiences for customers. After all, customers not only pay for products, they also pay for the
services provided, embracing the experience economy. There are seven marketing strategies to achieve
this goal, two of which are Physical Evidence and Process . This paper will be discussing these two
strategies and how the hospitality industry uses them to create memorable experiences.
The first of the two strategies is Physical Evidence . Customers tend to rely on physical cues to assist
in evaluation of a product before buying it. These physical cues are provided by the physical evidence
of the product. In the hotels and restaurants, the physical environment plays a huge role in physical
evidence. The physical environment includes factors such as ambiance and spatial layout.
(Professional Academy) These factors are crucial in evoking emotions in customers. When ambiance
and spacial layout are done right or tailored to suit the theme of the restaurant or hotel, customers
would feel positively about their whole experience.
Ambiance is a critical part of any restaurant or hotel when it comes to selling the whole experience.
Ambiance can be diverse. For example, from a relaxing, soothing environment in a spa to loud music,
a dark room with bright lights in a

Girl s Obsession On Band Boys
As I began exploring into the one direction fandom, I was a little doubtful on what I was getting
myself into. I am the bystander, that sits and watches as the obsession of One Direction is blowing up
all over my social media feed. The fans have a notorious reputation for being viewed on society to
spend countless hours drooling over someone they ll never have. My goal was to seek out the
complexities of the peculiar phenomenon and how this obsession affects their lives. Adventures in my
research led me to a new understanding on how a online obsession over a teen boy band can affect the
lives of many young girls. Being a part of the fandom online made me evident that my insight over the
surrounding topic of girl s obsession on band boys is incorrect. Through the online universe, people
tend to have an emotional appeal that can be seen which allows us to further investigate in fictional
aspects. As I explored into it further, it became evident that fans behave in a way to harness the love
they all share for their idols. In order to understand, I put myself in different shoes to try and adapt to a
lifestyle I was unfamiliar with. Fortunately for myself, my best friend Jessica was apart of this
community and this allowed the adaptation to come much smoother. In the past, she would
occasionally bring up One Direction, but due to my disinterest of them, she didn t bring them up as
much. When she found out that my research was going into this topic, she became extremely

Essay On Thermodynamics
An Overview of Thermodynamics and Bioenergetics with respect to Biochemistry
What is Thermodynamics?
It is that field of physical science which describes the relationship between heat and other forms of
mechanical, chemical and electrical energy. It basically deals with the basics of heat to the kinetic
theories to the laws of thermodynamics. Thermodynamics is widely used by biochemists to
understand chemical reactions and processes taking place in an organism. Thermodynamics is based to
three laws, out of which the first two are of importance for the biochemists.
First Law Of Thermodynamics
The first law is also known as the the law of conservation of energy. The law states that the energy can
neither be created nor destroyed but it can be changed from one form to another. Meaning energy in
the universe remains constant but can be changed from one form to another. The transfer of energy
from one form to another is an inefficient process. Energy is lost in many ways when work is done ...

Entropy is basically the measure of energy which is not available in a closed system for mechanical
work or in easier words the degree of randomness in a system. An good biochemical example is that of
proteins. A polypeptide that is folded into a protein is more confined in orientation that that of
unfolded protein chain, which can be freely undergo into any conformation. The polypeptide chain
that is folded has a negative entropy change and the polypeptide that is unfolded, the entropy increases
and the change is positive. Entropy is can only be measured in a closed system. As the organism is not
a closed system, there are a number of difficulties in measuring entropy changes for biological
processes. The Gibbs Free Energy (G) is a better indicator of spontaneous change, as it takes the
enthalpy change into consideration as

Analyzing Richard Shank s Hugo
This week s assignment was to watch a film called Hugo. The film was a great children s movie about
love, mystery and a happy ending. It also had some great information about film and the early process
during the turn of the 20th century. This film took place in the 1930s in France and film already had
more advanced technology than 1900. I read Richard Shank s paper analyzing the movie and thought
it was really well done. The assignment included 5 main questions to be answered and each main
question had mini questions. These questions was to help guide the student in analyzing the film
thoroughly and give examples. I thought Richard s paper was well organized, demonstrated high
subject competence and a clear understanding of the assignment.

The Stress Fatigue Disease Cycle
Every day we should try to lessen our stress in order to alleviate its dreadful effects on our emotional,
mental, physical and social aspects. Taking your time to assess the amount of stress that you have
experienced allows you to know where and how you should. The most prominent source of stress
nowadays includes a toxic workplace, constant worrying about certain deadlines, personal or family
issues, and the like. We all have our fair share of stressful experiences, no one is exempted.
Nevertheless, we all have a choice to minimize it and its effect.
Studies show that stress greatly affects memory, judgment making, and concentration. In fact, too
much stress is as bad for your heart as smoking. The more you are exposed to stress, the more likely
you are to experience fatigue. If you are in constant fatigue, then your immune system may turn down
its security levels and make you more susceptible to common health illnesses such as colds, fever and
flu. Experiencing such common illnesses will affect your daily routine in work or even in your
personal lifestyle. The moment you get back, you also get to back to experiencing stress. The cycle
continues. This is called the stress fatigue disease cycle. To lessen one s stress, take a moment to relax,
to unwind. You are most likely to be productive once you realize that your body has higher energy

This exchange of ideas and ideals between Chartist groups happened in a number of ways; the most

Chartist music, poetry, literature and festivities. The movement was open and inclusive. There were no

Soft Determinism Is Compatible
Compatibilism is the philosophical belief that determinism is compatible with human freedom. To
define determinism as a metaphysical thesis that the facts and occurrences of the past, following the
laws of nature and physics will give to only one possible future outcome in that moment.
Compatibilism breaks down into several versions for instance, soft determinism or self determination,
classical, contemporary, and opposing philosophical thoughts such as incompatibilism, liberalism and
hard determinism. Soft determinism states that humans are determined and still free, when an

The first is surface freedom which is when an individual has the power to make their own choices.
The second kind is deeper freedom, which is the ability of an individual to form their own desires.
Free will can manipulated by many external factors including advertisements and peer pressure. Free
will in relation to compatibilism is the unique ability of an individual to exercise control over their
choices in a manner necessary for moral responsibility. A common misconception is because free will
is compatible with all events being caused means free means caused. Free does not mean caused, in
any aspect. The problem of free will and compatibilism is that will is determined by prior events in the
casual chain, which causes and determines the actions of those involved. It has been suggested that
chance and random occurrences is an explanation for freedom, however if something was truly
random then it would break the casual chain. It could then be argued that because of chance outcomes
from an individuals action that they could not be morally responsible. It is common for philosophers
to counter this argument by stating that chance is an illusion, Albert Einstein once stated God does not

  • 2. Essay on Maria Martinez and Her Pueblo Pottery Maria Martinez and Her Pueblo Pottery One of the most well known figures of the twentieth century pottery world is Maria Martinez. Maria Martinez is a Pueblo Indian part of the San Ildefondo tribe. Pueblo pottery from the American Southwest holds a unique place in ceramic art forms of American art. It is full of age old tradition and culture handed down form family members and potters of the past. The old Pueblo ways of creating it still hold true today and have not been changed or influenced like so many other styles in modern times. One of the amazing factors involving Maria Martinez s work has been the incredible length of time that she has spent in producing her pottery. Her life has been spent learning, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The challenge of the task took over the need to make new work or simply utilitarian work. It became her focal point of all her pottery work and effort. The work was an old style. One more labor intensive and eventually discarded. As with many other art forms, the original format is often considered less effective because it produces fewer actual pieces or the intended art. In reality, the tenacious effort applied in careful traditional processes allows the soul of the artist to infuse the artwork with the true intended meaning. It has been termed, ? black on Black? work. (Peterson 23) ?Black on Black? sounds as though it may be an unimaginative concept, however, on the contrary it is truly subtle work, as a matte finish black surface is balanced and blended with a shiner, polychrome black. Could it be that the juxtaposition of the finishes serves as a metaphor for light in the darkness compared to flat darkness? Only Maria truly knows. It is almost as though a soft black is shadowed next to a bright one and the combination of both, create a piece visually greater that is the two finishes were to stand alone on two separate pieces. Therefore, what Maria has created in what at first seems to be a simple piece of ceramics, is actually a representation of her own views on spirituality and beauty (Peterson 37). By 1918, the years of effort, hard work, and dedication to their passion had paid off for Maria and her husband Julian. The two had perfected ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Medical Case Scenarios Today Dyana and Adriana wanted me to practice taking a client into the exam room, taking a history doing everything for the dog. They wanted me to do this appointment from start to finish. They wanted me to do this client because she was a woman that had previously worked at our clinic and knew that there were students there to practice. The patients name was Rocky; he was a puppy coming in for his third booster. I didn t want to be alone so I told Patty if she can watch over me to see if I do everything correctly. I took the patients record sheet and went out to the front to call the owner and the patient to come in. I call out Rocky your appointment is ready tell the client hello and show her to the room. First thing I ask the client ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I did my first appointment with a client; they told me I did well but I m not sure if I took a good enough history. Patty told me that usually the doctor will do a much more in depth history with the client. She said the exam tends to become much longer if both the doctor and the technician asked the same number of questions but that it also depends on the situation. This was just a puppy booster and the dog had been previously seen a few weeks ago so usually not much has changed. • 4. The Monument Of The Tomb Of Emperor Qin The monument of the Tomb of Emperor Qin tells us about early Chinese religious beliefs and practices. The mound itself remains unexcavated except for some test trenches, but researchers believe it contains a vast underground funerary palace designed to match the fabulous palace the emperor occupied in life. It was not taken into account the seriously until the discovery of pits around the tomb filled with more than 6,000 life size painted terracotta figures of soldiers and horses, as well as bronze horses and chariots. The terracotta army served as the First Emperor s bodyguard deployed in perpetuity outside the tomb. Funeral Banner of the Marquise of Dai tells us about early Chinese religious belief and practice. Daoist philosophy stresses an intuitive awareness, nurtured by harmonious contact with nature, and shuns everything artificial. Daoists seek to follow the universal path or principle, called the Dao, whose features cannot be described but only suggested through analogies. Dao is said to be like water, always yielding but eventually wearing away the hard stone that does not yield. The strengths in Daoists, comes from flexibility and inaction. Historically, Daoist principles encouraged retreat from society in favor a personal cultivar of the ying and yang. This making a perfect balance between yang, which are the active masculine energy, and yin, passive feminine energy. Confucianism discuss their role in Chinese society by empathy for suffering, pursuit of morality and justice, respect for ancient ceremonies, and adherence to traditional social relationships, such as those between parent and child, elder and younger sibling, husband and wife, and ruler and subject. Stressing that the deference to age and rank that is at the heart of the Confucian social order brings a reciprocal responsibility. For example, a king s legitimacy depends on the goodwill of his people. A ruler should share his joys with his subjects and will know his laws are unjust if they bring suffering to the people. • 6. Black Lung The black lung movement was a movement formed in the late 1960 s in which the miners fought for the health benefits to cover black lung disease. Black lung is directly caused by mining and working with coal. Mildred Mullins wrote this poem and hung it on the coffin of her dead husband in the Capital to display what was going on, Compensation we are asking, While alive and still gasping; When life is o er and hymns are sung, Then they ll know we have black lung.( Charleston Gazette 15) The miners felt that since their job caused this disease that they should be compensated for it. The coal companies felt that mining did not cause this lung disease and that the miners were just making it up. Black lung is the legal term used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blasting itself produced immense quantities of mineral particles. The common practice of returning to the work face soon after the detonation of charges meant entering an area filled with particulate matter. (Derickson 3) Also, as labors transported, unloaded, and cleaned the extracted material dust was inhaled even though they were away from the mine. So no matter what technique used the coal dust still made it in the air and into the miners lungs. There were no safety regulations in place about how long to wait after blowing up coal, no regulations about how many particulates in the air were safe, no mask or safety precautions and no mandatory venting. Although some of these things were easily usable to the safety the company felt it was too costly. An elaborate system of fans and blowers was too costly , so the miner had to pay for the bad ventilating by miners asthma and other ailments caused by bad air. (Derickson 4) Basically the coal operators did not care enough about the miners safety to provide vents and things that could have helped the air quality. Once black lung was discovered the movement began. Three studies done by the U.S. Public Health Service between 1924 and 1945 failed to bring recognition of black lung as a problematic condition. American medical opinion was that miner s asthma reflected a normal condition of mine work and actually posed no serious problems. Some doctors even went so far as to claim that coal ... • 7. Pros And Cons Of The Battle For Madagascar s Liberation With the end of the battle for Madagascar s liberation, there were positives and negatives outcomes. Even though Nyasaland KAR forces helped defeat the Vichy forces and had retaken control of the island for the British, the tactics the Vichy forces used throughout the battle slowed the Allies momentum. According to an article written by Time Magazine, after the battle was over, Governor General Armand L. Annet had not been able to offer the British much war, but at the bidding of Pierre Laval he had done the next best thing. By forcing the British to take each port in turn and to march to each inland city, then by stalling on armistice terms, Annet had kept some British land and sea forces from fighting Germans and Japanese as long as he possibly ... • 8. Arguments For Illegal Immigrants The issue of illegal immigrants has raised heated debate in the U.S., after President Trump clarified his stand on immigration. He maintained that under his plan, there is no legalization path for the illegal immigrants that reside here currently, unless it is that they have served in the armed forces. Presently, it is estimated that there are over 11 million illegal / undocumented immigrants in the United States. He plans to have them deported and once returned home, then may they apply for re entry. The 1952 Act of Immigration and Nationality, defines illegal immigrants also known as illegal aliens as individuals who are not U.S. nationals or citizens. Some of these undocumented people, have lived in the U.S. for many years and even raised families here. Although, some may argue that the illegal immigrants are a burden to the nation s economy and keep wages lower. They have contributed towards building this country for decades and significantly contribute to state taxes. I feel it would be impractical and inhumane to deport all illegal immigrants. The U.S. government should offer the illegal aliens a path to obtain citizenship or legal residency. Why Give Illegal Immigrants Legal Residency/Citizenship? Providing a path to the undocumented persons to earn citizenship would greatly benefit the U.S. economy. Economic experts have revealed that the immigrants residing and working in the country without authorization earn less income than their potential, pay fewer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Customer Service And Customer Loyalty In my opinion our company is relatively strong in 2 of the 4 characteristics of analytic competitor as described in the text. Our goal as company is to be superior in customer service and customer loyalty. To that end we have tools developed that assist everyone in the company and we are committed, from the CEO down to line level team member, to review the same statistics used for continuous improvement. Where we lack strength is having a distinctive capability and due to some system limitations in data warehousing, we still do quite a bit of individual reporting. Prior to working for this company I worked at the Well Established Casino (WEC) organization for 10 years. I learned quite a bit about standard reporting at WEC. Digging into how things worked and what interpretations were used to categorize casino player behavior was very rewarding. While WEC was superior in bucketing and appropriately setting expectations in future customer behavior, their reporting lacked some details preventing marketing operations from quickly responding to outlier influences and climate changes in the industry. I moved onto HTC where most of the reporting was financial in nature. Having opened newer casino properties our corporate structure did not immediately embrace the need for marketing analysis to potentially improve revenue streams that were already robust enough. I came on board with HTC in late 2010 as the Regional Director of Marketing Analysis when they opened casino number two. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. The Legalization Of Hard Drugs Trevor Allphin ENC1101 David Visser A Case for the Legalization of Hard Drugs in the U.S. The issue of drug abuse is a sad reality in every community, and drug prohibition is present across the globe. Whether it is under the guise of protection of family values, or public safety, prohibition disrupts more than it maintains. Many people view drugs as a problem but they can also be viewed as a problem solver. This essay will address the socioeconomic issues with prohibition of hard drugs, and argue for their legalization. Prohibition crowds prisons with non violent criminals, exposing otherwise innocent civilians to the dangers of prison life, and the mental and physical damage it does to not only their own livelihoods, but to their families as well. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, in 2011, out of 197,050 inmates in federal prisons, 94,600 were incarcerated for drug related charges, while only 14,900 for violent offenses. That equates to 48% of the entire federal prison population being incarcerated for drugs, with violent offenders only adding to 7.56%. The FBI states that of all drug arrests in 2011, 81.8% were for simple possession, the remaining 18.2% for sale and distribution. Therefore, there are over 77,000 federal inmates that were non violent civilians, whose only crime was carrying an illicit substance. Some people believed that this was the mythical land of Atlantis. They were located near the Aegean Sea and lands such as Greece, Troy and Asia Minor. One interesting fact is that these people never called themselves the Minoans. There wasn t any name listed in the history books for these people but the Ancient Crete Civilization. They were known as the Crete Civilization because they lived on the island of Crete which is now part of Greece. It wasn t until a 19th century British Archeologist, Sir Author Evans gave them the name, The Minoans. He gave them this name because he believed he had found the legendary palace of King Minos. There has been many civilization collapses over the World s history, but most can be explained in great detail. There are some that are very mysterious and not definitively explained. The collapse of the Minoan people happens to be one of those mysterious collapses which ranks 3rd in the top ten most mysterious collapses of the world and is still to this day debated on what actually caused their demise. • 24. Dr. Kant s Argument Savulescu s argument also has some flaws in regards to his responses to a few possible objections he talked about. One objection that Savulescu responds to is the objection that genes are pleiotropic meaning they have different effects on different parts of the body (The Ethical Life, 454). The example given was that a gene that prompts depression might also be responsible for heightened creativity and productivity (The Ethical Life, 454). Savulescu s response to that was that we would have to limit interventions until our knowledge grows and we would have to do more adequate research before expanding the types of interventions (The Ethical Life, 454). The problem with that is that it requires experimenting and testing on children and embryos which would be treating them as a means to an end rather than an end in itself. Kant would agree and say that these children exist as an end in itself, not merely as a means to be used by this or that will at its discretion (Kant, 96). Savulescu is suggesting research on children and embryos in order to reach the goal of allowing genetic enhancement. He is using them as a means to his end result. This is a major flaw as Kant would argue that treating people as an end is showing them the respect they deserve while treating them as a means is just dealing with them so that they can help to achieve the person s goal (Shafer Landau, 174). Therefore, a child should never be treated as a means to an end to help reach a goal for either ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Inferno Research Paper Inferno Research Paper Anthony K. Cassell stated in his critical essay titled Farinata that the methods of punishment in Dante s Hell are exquisitely diverse. The cantos in Inferno are focused on Circles or subdivisions of Hell that describe specific punishments for the suffering souls based upon the sin they committed. The deeper into Hell, the worse the sins that were committed, therefore the agonies of the punishments are greater. In Inferno, Dante brings the issue of sin into light by giving instances of sins he has taken note of. He places the guilty souls at different levels of Hell, depending on which crimes he believes are the worst to commit, showing how Dante portrayed his understanding of God s justice (Cassell). ... This is when Dante first begins to realize that God s justice is present is Hell. He then speaks out against all corrupt churchmen, and claims if he were not restrained, he would use even harsher words. Dante then becomes amazed, if not pleasured, with some of the punishments. In the Circle containing Thieves, Dante watches in amazement as a serpent bites a sinner between the shoulders, causing the soul to instantly catch fire, burn up, and then rise from the ashes to return to the pit of the serpents. In the First Ring of the Ninth Circle of Hell, called Caina, named after Cain who killed his brother Abel in Genesis, those who betrayed their kin are punished. The souls must stand in ice frozen up to their heads. Dante witnesses twins frozen face to face, butting their heads against each other in rage. Dante accidentally kicks Bocca degli Abati in the face, then leans down to apologize. Once he recognizes this soul, he tears out his hair before leaving him in the ice. With the constant rebuking from Virgil, Dante has learned to not pity the damned souls. Having completed the analysis, I will move on further to discuss and exemplify his theory of alienation. Lastly I will evaluate his theory of false consciousness. Question 1 Human action and social structure are extremely prevalent in the works of Marx. In terms of the workers and capitalist classes, he postulates that they are not free but rather actors of the capitalist system. In order to become un alienated and work toward becoming the whole man where everyone is part of one class, is able to support their family and their every need and has enough free time and is still able to work as Marx wished in his efforts, the workers would have to take risks to get out of their situation and keep trying to overthrow capitalism, as in the case of the movie, Daens where we witness them taking the dead child out on to the streets. This risk however is quickly averted by the capitalists as they have the means, the money and the knowledge to get their workers back to work. They simply call in a favour from the local police and then fire all those who marched. The instigator or initial risk taker (the woman who met Daens) is then punished further with rape as a means of enforcing their domination over the working class. • 32. Essay On Thermodynamics An Overview of Thermodynamics and Bioenergetics with respect to Biochemistry What is Thermodynamics? It is that field of physical science which describes the relationship between heat and other forms of mechanical, chemical and electrical energy. It basically deals with the basics of heat to the kinetic theories to the laws of thermodynamics. Thermodynamics is widely used by biochemists to understand chemical reactions and processes taking place in an organism. Thermodynamics is based to three laws, out of which the first two are of importance for the biochemists. First Law Of Thermodynamics The first law is also known as the the law of conservation of energy. The law states that the energy can neither be created nor destroyed but it can be changed from one form to another. Meaning energy in the universe remains constant but can be changed from one form to another. The transfer of energy from one form to another is an inefficient process. Energy is lost in many ways when work is done ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Entropy is basically the measure of energy which is not available in a closed system for mechanical work or in easier words the degree of randomness in a system. An good biochemical example is that of proteins. A polypeptide that is folded into a protein is more confined in orientation that that of unfolded protein chain, which can be freely undergo into any conformation. The polypeptide chain that is folded has a negative entropy change and the polypeptide that is unfolded, the entropy increases and the change is positive. Entropy is can only be measured in a closed system. As the organism is not a closed system, there are a number of difficulties in measuring entropy changes for biological processes. The Gibbs Free Energy (G) is a better indicator of spontaneous change, as it takes the enthalpy change into consideration as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first is surface freedom which is when an individual has the power to make their own choices. The second kind is deeper freedom, which is the ability of an individual to form their own desires. Free will can manipulated by many external factors including advertisements and peer pressure. Free will in relation to compatibilism is the unique ability of an individual to exercise control over their choices in a manner necessary for moral responsibility. A common misconception is because free will is compatible with all events being caused means free means caused. Free does not mean caused, in any aspect. The problem of free will and compatibilism is that will is determined by prior events in the casual chain, which causes and determines the actions of those involved. It has been suggested that chance and random occurrences is an explanation for freedom, however if something was truly random then it would break the casual chain. It could then be argued that because of chance outcomes from an individuals action that they could not be morally responsible. It is common for philosophers to counter this argument by stating that chance is an illusion, Albert Einstein once stated God does not play dice implying that everything has a cause even if we have not figured it out ...
