Essay On Direct Observation Of Children
1) Evaluation tool(s) being used (Ex: Pre/post testing, questionnaires, rubric, checklist) The evaluation
of coughing and sneezing technique will use return demonstration to make sure children understand it.
The teacher will use direct observation of the behavior to evaluate the children s understanding of the
skill (Miller Stoeckel, 2016, p. 321). Direct observation is done by using the senses to observe the
children (Miller Stoeckel, 2016, p. 321). Then a rubric will be used to record the observation and how
well the children did. Rubrics are often used to determine how the children preformed (Miller
Stoeckel, 2016, p. 324). Then, to evaluate cold and flu symptoms the game will address one and the
teacher will make notes on how well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Direct observation of the children was used as direct evaluation because it was an appropriate way to
evaluate the children. The game was also used to directly evaluated the children because peer notes
were taking and then used to fill out a rubric. Direct questioning was used as a form of indirect
measurement to evaluated what the children learned about handwashing. 2) How is data being
collected? Data is being collected by visually watching and keeping track of how many children
learned how to cough and sneeze during the exercise. At the end we will have each kid show us and
we can record the amount that learned all the steps. Data is also being collected by directly
questioning the children to assess what they have learned. 3) How will you analyze your evaluation
data? I will analyze my data by looking to see if 75 % of the class successful learned how to cough
and sneeze properly. I will do the same for cold and flu symptoms and for handwashing techniques. If
I was successful, over 75 % of the children should have learned what was being taught. The total of
children that were successful will be divided by the total number of children to see if it was a

How Is General Zaroff A Dynamic Character
In every story there is always a mysterious character that the author does not provide enough
information and background to the readers. This adds suspense to the story, adding more surprises and
eye opening astonishments. In the case of this short story The Most Dangerous Game, General Zaroff
is that character. He is preceded as the antagonist character that is uncivilized, cruel, and reckless.
General Zaroff plays the role of a dynamic and complex character that develops over the course of the
story. In the introductory of the character General Zaroff, one would assume that he is a civilized man
because of the fact that he is first presented as a well dressed wealthy man who lived on an island
which was owned by himself. Within General ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his opinion, he believes in life is for the strong, to be lived by the strong, and, if needs be taken by
the strong. The weak of the world were put here to give the strong pleasure. I am strong. Why should I
not use my gift? (page 7). This proves that he views the world in a primitive fashion, believing that the
weak should suffer beneath the feet of the strong. He believes that the world is split into two. One
being greater than the other or one being more superior over the other. Due to the fact that General
Zaroff believes he is one of the strong, he assumes that he is obligated to exterminate the weak.
General Zaroff is convinced that killing humans is acceptable. He enjoys the thrill of killing humans
as he once did for tigers, hinting tigers ceased to interest me some years ago. I exhausted their
possibilities, you see. No thrill left in tigers, no real danger. I live for danger (page 5). Killing humans
instead of animals provides him pleasure and he does it for entertainment purposes because they can
reason, after a fashion (page 7). This reveals that General Zaroff does not have the same feelings
towards the values of life as others would. By that, one could assume that he does not have a clear
idea of the difference between right and

Evil In Alice Of Wonderland
In this world there is good and bad people out there. No one is perfect. Humans turn into heroes or
villains. Villains are not necessarily bad at heart they just have been hurt bad just like everyone else,
expect they can not live with it. Some of the villains who have took bad to the extreme is Ursula, the
Red Queen, and Maleficent. Ursula is the sea witch and antagonist of the Little Mermaid. Ursula is
one of the most imperial figures in the sea, until Triton hears a rumor that Ursula wants to dethrone
him. Triton takes matters into his own hands and bans her from the kingdom. Ursula later seeks
revenge on everyone. The anonymous author states what Ursula does to poor innocent people, But
Ursula also secretly sabotages their efforts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Maleficent is the villain in Sleeping Beauty and her movie Maleficent. Maleficent is just a normal teen
who fell in love with a young peasant, Stefan. Everyone could tell how in love they were until they
grew old and Stefan has to cut her wings off. Stefan hesitates, but cuts them off anyways for the king.
The anonymous author extensively explains how Stefan took her wings, ...Stefan makes the attempt to
kill. However, he hesitates and cannot bring himself to do it. Instead, he burns off her wings using iron
(iron burns fairies) and presents them to the dying king, leaving Maleficent in agony. Maleficent later
on hears that Stefan cut her wings for a reward as king. She takes a harsh step and puts a curse on
Stefan s daughter, Aurora. The spell is she will go into a death like sleep when she pricks her finger on
the spindle of a spinning wheel. Maleficent wants to hurt Stefan right where it hurts more his
daughter,Aurora. She puts a curse on her that she will go into a death like sleep when she pricks her
finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and only a true love s kiss can save her. Maleficent wants to
see Stefan suffer just like he saw her suffer.
Villains are not bad they have their reasons why there like this. People always find a way to mess up
someone else s life. Ursula turns evil because of a rumor of her and the Red Queen turns bad because
of one lie her sister tells when she was small. Maleficent

Corner Detection Are Useful for Computer Vision...
Corner detection and its parameters: position, model and orientation are useful for many computer
vision applications, such as object recognition, matching, segmentation, 3D reconstruction, motion
estimation [2, 3, 4, 34.] indexing, retrieval, robot navigation and in our case edge tracking from
geometry design. This need has driven the development of a large number of corner detectors [1, 5, 6,
7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13.]. Other methods for corner detection are described in [14, 15]. These detectors
compete with each other in terms of precision localization, accuracy, speed, and information they
provide. Model classification and orientation are the most interest information needed in process of
edge tracking.
For some of these approaches, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Corner strength has been first defined by Noble [12] from which a slightly different version has been
proposed by Harris and Stephen [11]: (1.2)
The role of the parameter k is to remove sensitivity to strong edges.
The Plessey operator uses estimates of the variance of the gradient of an image in a set of overlapping
neighborhoods. This detector, which produced much interest, was extended by including local gray
level invariants based on combinations of Gaussian derivatives [17].
One of the earliest detectors [16], which was based on the Moravec operator, defines corners to be
local extrema in the determinant of the Hessian Matix, H=M.
The Kitchen and Rosenfeld operator [5] uses an analysis of the curvature of the grey level variety of
an image. The SUSAN operator [18] uses a form of grey level moment that is designed to detect V
corners, and which is applied to other model of corner.
The earlier Forstner [22] algorithm is easily explained in terms of H (Hessian Matrix). For a more
recently proposed detector [20], it has been shown [21] that under affine motion, it is better to use the
smallest eigenvalue of H as the corner strength function.
Recently, George Azzopardi and Nicolai Petkov [36] propose a trainable filter which we call
Combination Of Shifted FIlter REsponses (COSFIRE) and use for keypoint detection and pattern
recognition.

These methods extract contours and then

My Critique Of A Concert Experience
As you have most likely already read on my data sheet, I listened to Dr. Joe and Friend play at Ayuthai
Restaurant on November 12th. The venue features jazz ensembles pretty often, although I am not sure
why... Are the Thais even bigger fans of jazz than the French, or is it a personal preference of the
venue owner? My first concert experience was overall pretty good. I had a difficult time recognizing
selections so I had to stay for the full two hours. I ate a lot of Thai food. Appetizer, entree, and
dessert... I would have felt like a pig if the couple seated next to be hadn t order over double the
amount of food I did. Point being, I highly recommend Ayuthai Restaurant, and now onto my critique.
The vocalist was no Billy Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald, but she was not half bad either! I was overjoyed
whenever she joined the group. She sang two songs at the end of the first hour and then another two at
the end of the second. I was finally able to recognize and write down some selections! I had not been
able to recognize a simple musical piece played without her accompaniment. They were not playing
any of the jazz standards that I knew. No Ain t Misbehavin , My Favorite Things, or Body and Soul...
The first song she sang was one whose instrumentation I would have recognized, though. Orange
Colored Skies is one of my favorites. I know the words by heart, so I immediately noticed something
different.
The lyrics had been trimmed a great deal, with more favor being shown to the choruses

Health Plan For The Prevention Of Illness
Illness Prevention Should Johnny or Jane receive their flu shot when the next flu season approaches?
The answer depends upon your view of preventative care. There are very few issues on which all
citizens agree and unfortunately, preventative healthcare is not one of them.. Programs which prevent
disease have yielded significant benefits which include: increasing lifespans, improving many aspects
of life , as well as increasing the society s potential (Kongstvedt, 2013). Preventing illness is a
powerful as well as profitable tool for use in improving the health of our citizens. Yet, all individuals
are not in agreement with encouraging preventative health care.
Views Against Involvement in the Prevention of Illness There are various arguments individuals
possess supporting their view against the prevention of illness. One argument is that health plans must
select which services they deem preventative and will offer and which they will not . If an individual
has a family history of breast cancer, for example, yet genetic testing is not considered preventative by
their health plan they have received no benefit. Also, the benefits of preventive care are not universal.
Individuals who were continuously insured had no reduction in their level of risk for preventive
illnesses over a 2 year period (Gohmann, McCrickard Stevenson, 2013). Apparently having preventive
services available does not indicate that the population who has access will use or benefit from the

The Raven And The Cask Of Amontillado
On January 19, 1809, a major figure in the world of literature was born. Edgar Allan Poe, from
Boston, Massachusetts, would become known for his profound and ingenious poems, short stories and
critical theories. His tales of horror and mystery would establish the modern detective story and
become literary classics worldwide. Additionally, the great poet would earn the nickname, Father of
the Detective Story . Edgar Allan Poe s famous works, such as The Raven, The Fall of the House of
Usher, and The Cask of Amontillado, captured the interest and imagination of readers across the
globe. Furthermore, today s society uses his works as prime examples and ideas for books, movies and
yet songs. Edgar Allan Poe s renowned The Raven and The Cask of Amontillado are regarded as
brilliant and extraordinary works. One of Edgar Allan Poe s prominent poems is The Raven. Written in
January 29, 1845, the poem revolves around a man grieving over the lost of a loved one, Lenore, and
encounters a raven around midnight, that only says Nevermore . The main theme of the poem is about

The short story was written in November of 1846. The plot revolves around an Italian man named
Montresor that takes his revenge on a friend, Fortunato, whom had insulted him. The tale was a
response to a personal rival of Edgar Allan Poe, Thomas Dunn English, and is evident because he used
very specific references to English s novel. One specific reference is that Fortunato makes a reference
and gesture to the secret society of Masons, similar to the secret society in Thomas English s tale. The
Cask of Amontillado revolves around murder, but is not a tale of detection similar to other short
stories written by Edgar Allan Poe. The thing that makes the tale interesting is not only it being a tale
of revenge, but also the horror and mystery in Montresor s motive for

Art Analysis
Art is how you express yourself, and everyone does it in their own way, in their own style. I chose to
write about the two following art works because I believe they have so many similarities but are done
in completely different ways. For this comparison and contrast assignment the two works of art I
chose to write about are called; End Mixed Media by: Terry Peterson, shown in the art building at
Shasta College, and Forlakeph Mixed Media in a Glass Jar by: Gioia Fonda, also shown in the art
building at Shasta College. In the First work of art, End by: Terry Peterson; It is a tall sculpture with a
frame of wood standing at 103 x 108 x 60 in the middle of the sculpture is a wrapped mummified fish
as the centerpiece. I would describe it as Ritualistic because of the symbolism of the fish. Being
mummified like other cultures, like the Egyptians, who mummified their dead. The elements I see
containing in this work would be; shape, how the circle goes around the fish to highlight it. Line, the

different colored trash making it look more messy. shape, because of the circles above the fence and it

principle of art for this work of art may be focal point because of its one theme is enclosed in a jar.

Samurai Vs Medieval Knights Essay
The Japanese Samurai and Medieval Knights are very similar, on many levels. They both have a Code
of Conduct, similar training techniques and they both play a vital role in the feudal system. They also
have a few differences, their armour and their weapons; when everything is taken into consideration,
they are more similar than they are different.
There were many similarities and differences between the Japanese samurais and the medieval knights
training, amour and codes of conduct. The medieval knights start training at the age of 7 and roughly
finish the age of 21. The Japanese samurais started training at the of 5 and roughly finished at the age
of 15. One of the differences between the Japanese samurai and the medieval knights was their
armour. The amour between knights and samurais were very different. Knights wore armour made
from metal links and used swords. On the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the similarities between the Samurai and the knight in their roles in the community, Japanese
samurais had to fight in wars, obey and defend the shoguns or their country. Medieval knights had to
fight in wars and be the king s personal weapon. ( ????) . This shows that in their communities both
samurais and knights main role was to protect and defend their leader. Another similarity between the
two. The Damiyos would promise rewards to the samurais with salaries or gifts, including portions of
land; in return, the samurais promised to protect there country. () The knights would pledge their
allegiance and serve the Lord in exchange for accommodation, payment and gifts. These gifts also
included land. As you can see that the roles the Japnese samurais played within there community were
extremely similar to the roles the medieval knights played in their community.

An Analysis Of Daniel Dennett s Consciousness
Introduction As our scientific paradigm has shifted towards a materialist account of the world, many
thinkers believe that appeals to the supernatural cannot provide truth. Consequently, beliefs that had
once been considered adequate must now be reworked if not torn down entirely to fit this new world
view. Daniel Dennett s book Consciousness Explained attempts to provide an account of our internal
experience (i.e. Consciousness) that is rooted in the materialist world view. Though he is not the first
to undertake this project, he takes issue with what he perceives to be the popular materialist account of
consciousness, and seeks promote his own theory. With this essay I aim to offer an informative
summary of the book followed by an evaluative dialogue of its central claims.
Dismissal of Dualism Before introducing his theory Dennett offers a brief dismissal of Dualism.
Dualism is the belief that there exists along with the body an immaterial soul. Depending on the
variation of Dualism, the soul either contributes to or produces what we perceive to be conscious
experience. Dennett takes issue with this view through inspection of the body s interaction with the
soul. He argues that the soul being an immaterial entity shouldn t have any causal relationship with the
material body. The aforementioned argument is grounded in empirical observation. As far as we know
there isn t any evidence of unobservable material thing having causal interaction with the material
world.

Chosen Development Framework For The Past Decade
Rajat Chadha CS 4960 November 20, 2014 Professor Sarraille Scrum Methodology Abstract: Scrum
Methodology has been the chosen development framework for the past decade. Created in 2001,
Scrum has taken over as the development framework of choice by business and companies [7].
Scrums counterpart, the Waterfall Methodology has taken a back seat to Scrum. The traditional
developmental framework used by companies and businesses previously was The Waterfall
Methodology. When Scrum got developed it created a better understanding of how to develop projects
in iterations rather than a linear waterfall style. Scrum is a developmental framework that is done in
iterations and can be implemented on many different projects. This paper will go more into depth
about the Scrum Methodology, The Three Artifacts, The Three Roles, Scrum Ceremonies, and The
Waterfall Methodology. 1. Introduction/Background Scrum is a simple framework used to organize
teams and get work done more productively with higher quality [7]. Scrum provides a productive
working environment in which it allows teams to choose the amount of work to be done and how to
best complete the work. The application of Scrum enforces a few simple rules that have the potential
to make a team self organized into process that can achieve 5 to 10 times the productivity of a
waterfall based process [5]. Scrum focuses on prioritizing work based on business value, improving
the usefulness of what is delivered, increasing revenue,

Social Anxiety Research Paper
Over the course of my life, I have been subject to social anxiety. Being around others often times
makes me really uncomfortable. This really doesn t necessarily apply in it s fullest extent when I m
conversing with one person directly, but when talking to a group of people I sometimes stammer and
lose focus. This anxiety, though something that may seem trivial, is something that has always held
me back from involving myself in larger activities. Although I have been inhibited by my anxiety, I
have taken steps to, or at the very least attempt to, involve myself with more things in order to remedy
my situation. There have been times where I will have to do some trivial thing in class, such as give a
presentation or talk about something, where I get incredibly nervous. I have tried, at times, to push
through and appear confident and stoic as a remedy to anxiety. This solution functions well enough to

In all honesty, this is the trap that is easiest to fall into. Not only is this more likely to avoid potential
problems involving others, it allows one to accomplish more with their time. There comes a point,
however, when you realize that it is unhealthy to be reclusive. Although it can be advantageous to
accomplish more and avoid problems, you, thusly, lose out on many social and more involved
activities. As such, I have concentrated my fullest efforts on involving myself with various club
activities at school. Although I sometimes spend more time reading, I at least spend some time
involving myself with other students. It can be very discomforting, more so than I can convey by text.
However, I realize that it is most healthy to attempt to be non reclusive and involve myself regardless

Technology Is A Hindrance In Modern Society
In the 21st Century many individuals argue that technology has made life easier and assist humans by
increased efficiency and productivity. However, they fail to realize that although technology has
become a cornerstone in modern society, it has also become a hindrance in many aspects. The
dictionary defines technology as the machinery and equipment developed from the application of
scientific knowledge. Scientific inventions are man made, as a result, it is flawed and has its adverse
effects. The advancement of technology has damaged society. It has prompted human beings to be less
physically active, which in turn decreases human to human interactions and as a result of individuals
being smart device stricken, it jeopardizes their privacy and safety.
Presently, the advancement of technology has resulted in the decrease of physical activity. Humans
have become lazy because they are overly dependent on their handheld devices. Which in turn results
in the decrease of brain power and human intellect. Many people do not take the liberty to learn
anything anymore because it is easily accessible on their smart devices. Knowledge, information and
just about anything else is at the hands of the common man by way of technology. Therefore, there is
no need for humans to do the extra. Information is accessed in 2.5 seconds via the world wide web.
Scholars do not even bother buying the newspaper, books or any educational material anymore.
Individuals can lie down in their beds and

Quality Outcomes.
There are several quality outcomes I hope to achieve through the implementation of this initiative. The
most important outcome is to improve the quality of patient care and minimize hospitalization lengths.
The second outcome is to improve the process used in the hospital status post insertion of urinary
catheters and to minimize the length of time the catheters remain indwelling in the patient. The third
outcome is to decrease the monetary toll that CAUTI takes on the facility by working to prevent the
infections from occurring in the first place.
Needed Leadership. The following departments need to be involved in this proposed initiative for it to
be successful; the infection control department, nursing administration, floor nurses, and urology. It is
important to have representatives from each department as they will all have valued input and each
specialty is especially important to the success of the initiative. Infection control and Urology will
have a major role in the research and implementation of the proposed change process as well as the

Civil War Turning Point Analysis
Before the Civil War, tensions between the North and South were rising. The North put protective
tariffs on the South for their own benefit and Lincoln planned on abolishing slavery in the expanding
territories. Those actions made the South angry and viewed them as a threat to their lifestyle. As a
result, this led to the Civil War. As the war went on, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to
Union General Ulysses S. Grant at the Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865. This was a colossal
turning point as this led to the end of the Civil War, making the North victorious. However, during the
attempts to unite the country back together, the attempt of the Radical Republicans trying to gain
support backfired. White Southerners were so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the North need a great leader the most, they had Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln was an
effective leader during the war. He was very firm in his orders and was a direct problem solver.
Lincoln preferred to react to problems and to circumstances that others had created rather than to
originate policies and lay out long range designs. At first, however, Lincoln believed that he should
leave the running of the army to his generals. With the generals running the Union army, the
leadership was inefficient. The ineffective leadership of the generals led to defeats of many battles in
1862. After many frustrating exchanges with his generals, Lincoln had to change leadership styles. He
became more assertive and decisive. He became more direct with his orders and used his power as
Commander in Chief to guide his army. In 1863, he issued direct instructions to his generals. Lincoln
placed General Joseph Hooker, who had repeatedly defied his suggestions, into strict military relation
to General Halleck. He told Halleck to give Hooker orders as he would have to obey them. In other
words, Lincoln was a powerful leader as he was able to give out orders efficiently. As he changed this
leadership style to a more dominant one, the Union army won important victories, notably at
Vicksburg and Gettysburg. Lincoln s leadership got the Union army moving and eventually got
General Lee to surrender at the Appomattox Court House in Virginia in 1865, winning the Civil

Ottoman And Italian Charity And Charity
According to Skocpol and Somers, one of the major uses of comparative history is to make
observations about institutions and structures and how they develop in different nations. Now when
one thinks about points of comparison, they probably think about broad categories like religion, the
state, etc., these are all obvious categories for comparative history, a less obvious topic however, is
poor relief and charity. How to deal with the poor (in this case, orphans, those out of work, the sick,
etc.) is an almost universal problem that every state or polity in the early modern Mediterranean had to
address in some form or another. This makes poor relief and charity a prime candidate for comparison.
For example, take the Italian states and the Ottoman Empire. On the surface, you can find vast
differences between the two, Italian city states were Christian and were often individual cities that
were independent of each other; meanwhile the Ottoman Empire was a vast, Muslim state
compromising large amounts of territory. Despite these differences, one can find similarities in regards
to how charity and poor relief were handled.

How Does Japanese Theater Manipulate The Body With Create...
An imperative component of theatre for decades, countless countries regard realistic techniques with
respect. Even though the non realistic techniques have continued to remain prominent in numerous
cultures, the majority of people neglect to implement these techniques into their own methods.
However, embracing and adapting these techniques into realism would increase the effect that actors
could have on the audience. Thus, the question follows: How does Japanese theatre manipulate the
body to create effective acting, and how can actors apply them to realistic techniques? To determine
how Japanese theatre employs the body, I first describe the myriad of components and techniques that
Noh actors learn to utilize on the audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This freedom is key to people such as Robert Wilson, who hate naturalism, and believe that. to be
natural on stage is to lie (Janisheski). Unlike realistic techniques, which achieve their goals of realism
through facial expressions, these Japanese methods send a message using their bodies, especially the
feet. It consequently raises the question: How does Japanese theatre manipulate the body to create
effective acting, and how can actors apply them to realistic techniques?
Additionally, it is paramount to examine this since innumerable, granted not all, modern theatre pieces
lack a point of view, or fail to express it. This is why actors must follow the example set by these
techniques and apply it to themselves. Actors who only focus on creating a realistic performance and
showing emotion are only achieving their partial potential if they lack control over their bodies.
Noticing how society changes is also key, for even though Japanese actors attempt to follow western
methods, their theatrical culture is known primarily for Noh, Kabuki, and other ancient arts. Tadashi
Suzuki, founder of the Suzuki Method, consequently tried to modernize these arts, bringing attention
to the originals as its core. There is no one

Police Enforcement And The Security Of The Virtual City...
Abstract
This essay is an examination of community policing as it relates to the interests of the Virtual City
Police Department. Advances in technology has changed police work, officers are incorporating
technology and sophisticated investigative techniques to solve crimes. This essay will focus on the
pros and cons of community policing in a modern society, where police officers must rely more on
technology and forensics than citizens to solve crimes and apprehend criminals.
Introduction
Police have been linked to citizens since the reform era redefined the nature of the relationship
between police and citizens (Kelling, Moore, 1988). The new model demanded an impartial law
officer who related professionally, neutrally, and in distant terms to citizens. Weaknesses in the model
were displayed through a decentralized organizational structure which failed to provide supervision to
patrol officers, resulting in a rise in police corruption (Kelling, Moore, 1988). Continuing reformations
put officers in automobiles reasoning that the automobile would increase the extent of the patrol and
give the officers a greater advantage over criminals (Kelling, Moore, 1988). As more officers patrolled
in automobiles the rapport of community relations was lost, officers were no longer an intimate part of
the community structure. The decline in contact between the citizens and police was not helped by the
centralization of precincts, as smaller

Joel s Social Skills
There are several goals that we have for Joel to improve on his social skills. One objective that we
have for Joel is to reduce passive aggressive behaviors toward others. This would include specific
examples such as rolling his eyes when a student says a wrong answer as this may lead to further
ostracism and increased likelihood of being bullied. Furthermore, another social orientated objective
relates to him being less withdrawn and shy. By taking chances and making himself more vulnerable,
is will allow him to be less tense with his peers. This in turn, will result in more socializing between
Joel and his peers.

Though it can be used for individuals with mental illness, it is also a solid fit for individuals such as
Joel that could benefit from the teaching of these skills. This is because Social Skills Training (SST)
involves the systematic teaching of interpersonal skills through the practice and demonstration of
those skills (Mueser Bellack, 2007).
Joel and his fellow group members will be taught social skills during group counseling sessions. A
large part of this will be taught through role playing common social scenarios with group members.
Role playing is effective because it allows clients such as Joel to watch these skills be demonstrated
by others in addition to practicing them himself (Mueser Bellack, 2007). Once Joel and his group
members practice these improved social behaviors they will be provided with positive feedback on
what they did well and corrective feedback on how they could have done better.
In addition to role playing, Joel will be provided with assignments to practice what he learned during
naturally occurring situations. For example, when Joel is frustrated with other students in the class for
not being able to keep up or answer questions correctly, he can practice keeping his thoughts to
himself and/or engages in more supportive behavior. This may include the avoidance of showing his
dissatisfaction with other students (i.e. rolling eyes) and trying to help his fellow students when they

Essay on The Fifth Discipline by Peter Senge
The Fifth Discipline by Peter Senge
In his book The Fifth Discipline, Peter Senge emphasizes his model of a learning organization, which
he defines as an organization that is continually expanding its capacity to create its future. A learning
organization excels at both adaptive learning and generative learning.
Senge describes five disciplines that are necessary for a learning organization. Learning organization
is a catchphrase covering the ideal of an organization built on vision, teamwork, openness, flexibility,
ability to act under changing conditions, and so forth and so on. It is an organization where people don
t just promote their limited region and privileges, but where they take risks and ... Show more content

Going beyond simply holding on to one s beliefs as conclusive, examining which models one is
actually operating on. Personal mastery means working on developing one s vision, one s abilities, and
one s focus of energy on a personal level. It is a divine inner drive to practice mastery, to be the best
that one can be. Systems thinking is the fifth discipline. It is the ability and practice of examining the
whole system on a regular basis, rather than just trying to fix certain problems. It is also using the
conceptual framework and tools of systems thinking to clarify the full patterns and to understand how
to effect the most change.
Senge s five components of a learning organization all work together. Personal mastery, shared vision,
team learning, and mental models lay the groundwork for the organization. And systems thinking is
the glue that makes it together. In order for the learning organization to work, each of the five
disciplines must be developed at the same time and incorporated with one another.
Applying Senge s model to the typical corporate mission of increasing shareholder value is perceptive.
The Fifth Discipline calls this vision limited, since it does not consider what leads up to the increase in
shareholder value. The typical corporate mission limits the organization s thinking to only one part of
a problem. As an example, Senge states

The Sexualization Of Women s Status
Sexualization of women in the media, be it as a marketing front for products or props in movies and
music videos, serves to diminish women s status in society. Though women are universally exploited
by the media, in North America women are depicted differently based on race. However, these
depictions are polarized between women of colour, to be precise black women, and white women.
When juxtaposed, white women appear as demure and black women as sexually aggressive. Mass
media s portrayal of black women is not a unique phenomenon. In fact, from the time of slavery black
women s bodies entice white men s darkest fantasies. This is clearly seen in the legacy of Saartijie
Baartman. Baartman was a spectacle for the white woman and man s gaze. She was violently
objectified, fetishized, and commodified during the 1600 s. Her legacy is important to African
Diasporic women because society still misuses the black female body. Black women are still
hypersexualized in society because they are viewed to have bigger butts, hips, breast, and lips that are
not only condemned as abnormal like Saartijie Baartman but seen as uncontrollable and animalistic.
Therefore, black women s bodies have been conditioned to represent a sexual deviance. The sexual
representations of black women in the media dehumanizes them, which, in turn, reduces their worth
and normalizes the objectification of black women. Black women are vilified in the media through the
black jezebel stereotype, which entails being

The Island Of Dr. Moreau Essay
The Island of Dr. Moreau, by H.G. Wells is focused around a man fascinated with the difference
between animal and man. Dr. Moreau, a man surely seen as a mad scientist to the outside world, and
maybe correctly. Dr. Moreau is determined to establish a sustainable human population, but all he has
on his secluded island, are a bunch of beasts. Although, this appears to be a problem, he still works
toward his goal, in rather experimental stages.
The genre of the story is very much science fiction, but it is also realistic fiction. Although this is not
based on any true events, the idea of experimenting on and evolving humans is not only possible, but
would most likely be a common thing if not for the lack of legality of the practice. The point of view
is definitely first person as the book is written as a diary of sorts. The narrator is telling the reader, his
experiences on the island as if retelling a personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Edward Prendick, being the protagonist as well as narrator of the book showed most development in
his opinion of the beast people. Prendick went from being scared to death of the beasts turned humans
when he first came ashore on the island, to being friendly, feeling pity when they were tortured, and
back to being scared to death again when one of them killed the doctor. He is very philosophical when
it comes to the comparison between man and beast.
Dr. Moreau is fascinated with evolution; he wants to turn the wild life of the island into humans. But
mainly he wants to create evolution directly. He is very spiritual in the sense that he seeks the meaning
of life. He declares himself god almost as he seeks the powers of god, the ability to manipulate both
life and nature at will. Although he is never successful because he lets the animals that he

Why Math Is Important For Teaching Mathematics And How...
Math Philosophy Paper Math is developing concepts or standards that s important for teaching
mathematics to students from Pre K to high school. In our changing world, those who understand and
can do mathematics will have significant opportunities and options for shaping their future. (NCTM
2000, p.50). The two important tools to be an effective teacher is knowledge of mathematics and how
students learn mathematics. The purposes of math education effect our life since the time we were
able to walk. We were taught how to count on our fingers to being able to write our numbers to ten.
Then as we got older, concepts were more challenging and involved critical thinking to solve the
problems. In society today, math is being utilized in simple to complex avenues such as grocery
shopping, measuring, budgeting, investments, architecture, science and technology to name a few. If
we take a look around our environment signs, buildings, bridges, streets and just the different patterns
and shapes all relate back to mathematics. My role as a math teacher in the classroom would be
creating an inviting math environment for my students, being able to explain math to all my students
in ways that they understand and model math in an effective way. I want to be a leader, share my
knowledge, engage and challenge my students, support them, respect them, be positive and keep them
interested in math. The qualities I would have as an effective teacher is the knowledge and skills and

While Americans long have been split on the general question of abortion though a majority do
believe it should be legal in at least some circumstances, a number of polls show that a majority of
voters oppose abortion after 20 weeks (Sneed). The republicans have proposed a bill that bans
abortion after twenty weeks, if a person were to have an abortion after this time period it will be
considered illegal and there will be consequences. If a woman was raped and got pregnant if she does
not wish to have the child according to the new law being proposed, that said woman has to report the
rape to the police and then she can proceed with the abortion. As stated by the article, Abortion rights
supporters counter with polling that shows voters are more supportive of abortions after 20 weeks in
cases of fetal abnormalities (Sneed). In some extreme cases a few people believe that abortion should
be allowed after the twenty week time period has passed, for instance in situations where it s not safe
for the fetus and or the mother to continue with the pregnancy, or if the baby will have some sort of
birth defects. All republican presidential candidates and those considering to join the presidential
candidate race are all supporting the twenty week abortion ban. Americans have been clear that they
do not want politicians to interfere with their health care decisions. Meanwhile

What Affects Safety When Riding Bicycle
Safety is a very ambiguous term that refers to a condition of being protected or being free of risk or
danger [72]. The truth is that there is no such thing as being 100% safe. Every action that a person
takes or can take possesses a degree of risk. People tend not to think about risk unless they are doing
something extreme or out of the ordinary. Nevertheless, many daily activities that people do have a
high degree of risk but are often overlooked because they are daily activities. A perfect example of this
is bicycling. Unlike cars and other transportation vehicles, bicycles do not have a factor of safety .

most cases there is almost no time to react. No one rides a bicycle expecting a car to hit them any

that may affect the rider and design a product that limits any type of bicycle accident. The goal of this

Cause Of The Mexican American War
The Mexican American war, also known as the Mexican war happened between 1846 and 1848 with
the participants being United States of America and Mexico. Texas, previously a Mexican state, was
the primary cause of the war. A series of disagreements had occurred between Texans and the Mexican
government leading to Texas declaration of its independence in 1836. Later, Texas decided to join the
United States as the 28th state and this infuriated Mexico. Additionally, border disagreements came up
with Mexico claiming the border was at Nueces River while Texas claimed it was at Rio Grande
River. James K. Polk, the president, sent his army to protect the border which ended up in shooting
between Mexican and American troops. It is after this that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This treaty granted Texas independence from Mexico. Regardless of this, Mexico and Texas still
fought over border lines which brewed negative stereotype of the Mexicans from Americans. Later,
Texas joined the United States, and this idea angered Mexico. Border disputes forced both countries to
send their troops to enforce the border lines, a standoff followed. A clash between the armies in 1846
led to the commencement of the war.
How it played out
The Mexican American war was a conventional conflict battled y traditional armies made up of
cavalry and artillery that were mostly European war tactics. The American s managed to penetrate
Mexican land which resorted to using guerrilla warfare as a defence strategy when the Americans
penetrated their territory. After the hostilities began, the U.S. military embarked on a three pronged
tactic that was designed to capture Northern Mexico forcing them to retaliate. Two groups of
American militaries went to southern Texas, and the third troop led by Colonel Kearny embarked to
the western region New Mexico. General Zachary s army defeated the Mexican military after a series
of battles in De Palma necessitating them to move to the south to gain more victory over the
Mexicans. The seizure of Monterey and Los Angeles by the U.S. Navy granted them a second victory.

had cumulative sales of over six million dollars, trailing only John Grisham during that time frame. He

In terms of channel management, this pre release should satisfy all members of the channel. Certainly,
the book clubs would embrace the idea of being able to market an exclusive release of a Patterson
novel, and with exclusive rights, should be able to retain club members for longer commitments. More
importantly, this would not have to come at the expense of the retail chains because club members
generally would buy books through the club channel anyways. The retail stores, instead, could benefit
from the buzz created by club members, as non club members may now be clamoring to buy the book
their friends have already been talking about as soon as it is released in stores. A true blockbuster

The Great City Of New York
Glamour and Riches
Since the introduction of films and theatres the great city of New York has often been depicted as an
idyllic place to live, where people go to make their dreams come true. One movie in particular enthral
us in its representation of New York City, Breakfast at Tiffany s based on Truman Capote s novella
brings the glamourous atmosphere of the high society to our door step. Produced in 1961, it also opens
a window to the mores of the time. This movie made New York City the place to be to get rich and
live free. It acts as an icon for the American Dream, a City of hope.
As the film opens on a scene of Holyday Golightly, actress Audrey Hepburn, still wearing an evening
gown getting out of a taxi and gazing at the displays of the Tiffany s store on Fifth Avenue, the
spectator can already feel the richness of New York. Breakfast at Tiffany s describes New York as a
grand place full of light and richness; nowhere in the movie do we see a person struggling to survive.
Moreover, even though Holy is utterly unable to manage her money, the City itself seems to provide
for her whenever she is in need. A new opportunity to enrich her always seems to appear out of
nowhere. Consequently, New York appears as a benefactor bestowing its greatness to the citizens,
opportunities and chances to make it big await at every corner. Holy s dream is to someday have
breakfast at Tiffany s, which symbolise her quest for riches as well as her foolish character since it is

The Inevitable Truth
My dream is to live in a world where I can walk outside and know I live in a clean environment where
I don t have to worry about what my grandchildren s grandchildren might have to deal with during
their lives. Earth s climate is facing a dramatic turn of events and becomes more and more
unpredictable every year. Why is this happening? Many people ask. The clear answer is facing all of
us, yet some of Americans don t want to believe it. The answer is global warming. Many people
believe global warming is a hoax or a bunch of nonsense evidence constructed by the government;
however, it is real and has a major effect on our world. Sea levels will rise, carbon dioxide along with
green house gas levels will rise, wild life will die off, and the human race will not be ready for these
consequences. Firstly, Earths largest problem, and arguably the most detrimental to its health is the
drastic and sudden increase in carbon dioxide and green house gas levels:
The WMO s data for 2013 shows the global average level of atmospheric carbon at just under 400
parts per million, about 40 percent higher than in
pre industrial times and higher than in any other
period in at least 800,000 years. (Warrick.)
This upsurge emanates numerous problems. Increases in CO2 levels lay the foundation for many of
Earth s additional problems such as the rise in sea level, temperature, and its

Le Lean And Lean
Introduction Lean Principles have been essential to numerous organisations all over the world for
achieving outstanding results in terms of efficiency, quality and manufacturing times. Large
organisations are especially acknowledged to implement lean principles successfully. However, in
recent years small and medium sized enterprises have been in emphasis due to their flexibility and
capabilities that provides the necessary robustness in the global economic crisis (Matt , 2007).
Therefore, this paper will critically appraise and assess two separate case studies by authors Matt and
Rauch (2013) and Kumar et al. (2006) respectively. The two case studies, provided by these respective
authors, revolve around SMEs in two different countries. This paper will identify lean elements along
with their motivations behind their lean implementations and identify the main differences and
similarities between the two case studies in terms of general lean literature. Finally, a list of
recommendations will be given to each case study and how their individual companies can improve
the success of their lean adoption. The Case Studies Lean Adoption The first case study is a SME,
situated in the north of Italy. The firm started in 1995 and employs around 25 persons. With a small
employee size it was very hard to commit too much time to develop a lean production with a two year
period in single steps. Since there was limited resource allocation, it was decided that the firm will use

Comparing the Approaches of the Progressive and Populist...
Populism vs. Progressivism Essay During the late 19th century and early 20th century the progressive
movement and populist movement were groups and organizations getting together to resolve social,
economic, and political problems occurring in the United States. Both movements had different
approaches to what was more important and how to deal with problems. Progressivism was mainly for
the betterment of cities while populism is for agrarian section of farmers. First of all there were social
failures and successes between the populist and the progressive. During the progressive era, many
lawmakers from state and general level made laws to protect citizens at home and those who are at
work. Reforms were made saying that women and children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There was a social change in which women also fought for suffrage. The populists were pretty much
the victims of economic distress and their arguments were founded on the basis of progressive
movements. One of the populist failure was that they lost the national election when the farmers
united to insist on economic reform. The Progressives made great efforts to solve the political
problems that industrialization and urbanization were causing. They tried to wipe out political
corruption by limiting power to big companies/ bosses and reduce the control of political machines.
Many of the progressive reforms also supported the railroad legislation, conservation movement, and
food and drug laws. This also included efforts to protect society by initiating prohibition and they also
extended suffrage to women. The progressives succeeded at keeping the power of the railroad industry
in the hands of the governments but failed at protecting the states right to control businesses. Finally
in 1890 the first federal law was passed against monopolies known as the Sherman Anti Trust Act. The
populists created a Farmers Alliance that began in Texas and it organized low cost insurance for
farmers and put banks in their place with regulations. The Farmer s Alliance also gave the government
the ownership of the transportation system to regulate their costs and monopolies. When the Grangers
lobbied for regulation of the

Love For The First Time
When you fall in love for the first time you think you are high in the sky (and no, not in that way).
Everything is beautiful, colorful, and perfect; at least that s how I felt. When I had my first boyfriend,
I felt free and careless, There weren t bad days and I felt complete because he was by my side. Finally,
someone understood my bad jokes and weird sense of humor. It was the best time of my life, and after
a long time, I felt happy. I know it sounds cliché, but that s how stupidly happy love can make you.
We have met for six years, he was in the same school as me and he later confesses to me 3 months
after our graduation. Well, I push him a little bit, because he was afraid that I would reject him or that
it would ruin our friendship, but I told him that I felt the same way, and since then we were together
for two years as an official couple.
Unfortunately, it didn t last long. He had a friend who spent a lot of time with him, and I guess that
little by little he started to get feelings for her, he did the right thing and told me about it before he
could cheat on me. We end up on good terms and till this day we talk to each other as good friends
because either way our relationship at that point (last few months) felt empty and it was like we got
bored of each other, we realized that what we felt was not love in a romantic way, but as friends. We
care for each other because we ve known for six years. I had to admit that he hurt me at first and I was
blind with anger

The Gilded Age And The Age Of Information
The term the Gilded Age was coined by Mark Twain. By this, he meant that the period was glittering
on the surface but corrupt underneath. With its period of extreme economic growth, there was
tremendous wealth, but only for the wealthy. The Second Gilded Age, which some say was brought on
as the Information Age, brings a level of inequality to America that has never been seen before.
Experts believe that this shift could kill the American dream. The Gilded Age and the Age of
Information are similar in terms of the vast economic inequality prevalent, the issues arising with
immigration (both reform and influx), and the disparity between the political parties.
Vast economic inequality prevalent
The United States income inequality has risen drastically since the 1970 s and has not been this high
since 1928. Economic inequality is the unequal differences in how assets, wealth, and income are
dispersed among the people and different populations throughout the United States. It is often
described as the gap between the rich and the poor.
Wealthy industrialists and financiers such as John D. Rockefeller, founder of the Standard Oil
Company; Andrew Carnegie, the self made steel tycoon and philanthropist; Cornelius Vanderbilt,
known for developing the inland water trade and rapidly growing railroad industry after building the
New York Central Railroad; and Jay Gould, a developer of the railroads, were labeled as robber
barons, meaning an American capitalist who became

How Did Castro Cause The Cuban Revolution
DRAFT Fidel Castro A Rebel With A Cause
The Cuban Revolution was a massive revolt led by Fidel Castro and powered by people with the
common goal to bring back the peace. The Cuban government was led by the dictator Fulgencio
Batista who took away basic freedoms that damaged society. Fidel Castro wanted to bring back the
peace with a radical mission to overtake a nearby army garrison. With a chaotic attack on Moncada
Barracks, Fidel Castro failed at his coup d etat but did not meet an unsuccessful end. Fidel Castro s
gruesome attempt at claiming control of the Moncada Barracks ultimately backfired on him and
created the spark for the Cuban Revolution.
For years the Cuban government had claimed ultimate control over society which outraged ... Show

Later he surrendered after being promised a fair trial where he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. At
his trial he said You may condemn me. History will absolve me (PBS) and left these words ringing in
the ears of history. What is so remarkable about his trial is that he acted as his own attorney and his
speeches were so powerful that he influenced the Cuban Bill of Rights. While being denied access to
physical papers and documents, he used ideas from European and American revolutions as the basis of
his defense. Castro even recalled ideas from Rousseau, Thomas Paine s Rights of Man and the
American Declaration of Independence. Most importantly, he argued how he was fighting for the
people of Cuba, how Batista had created a reign of terror, and that the people should uprise in order to
achieve peace. Fidel Castro was sent to prison for 15 years until Batista would release him on the
terms of general amnesty 2 years later. After his release the people of Cuba would look to him for
leadership against the Cuban dictator Fulgencio

  • 2. Essay On Direct Observation Of Children 1) Evaluation tool(s) being used (Ex: Pre/post testing, questionnaires, rubric, checklist) The evaluation of coughing and sneezing technique will use return demonstration to make sure children understand it. The teacher will use direct observation of the behavior to evaluate the children s understanding of the skill (Miller Stoeckel, 2016, p. 321). Direct observation is done by using the senses to observe the children (Miller Stoeckel, 2016, p. 321). Then a rubric will be used to record the observation and how well the children did. Rubrics are often used to determine how the children preformed (Miller Stoeckel, 2016, p. 324). Then, to evaluate cold and flu symptoms the game will address one and the teacher will make notes on how well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Direct observation of the children was used as direct evaluation because it was an appropriate way to evaluate the children. The game was also used to directly evaluated the children because peer notes were taking and then used to fill out a rubric. Direct questioning was used as a form of indirect measurement to evaluated what the children learned about handwashing. 2) How is data being collected? Data is being collected by visually watching and keeping track of how many children learned how to cough and sneeze during the exercise. At the end we will have each kid show us and we can record the amount that learned all the steps. Data is also being collected by directly questioning the children to assess what they have learned. 3) How will you analyze your evaluation data? I will analyze my data by looking to see if 75 % of the class successful learned how to cough and sneeze properly. I will do the same for cold and flu symptoms and for handwashing techniques. If I was successful, over 75 % of the children should have learned what was being taught. The total of children that were successful will be divided by the total number of children to see if it was a successful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This adds suspense to the story, adding more surprises and eye opening astonishments. In the case of this short story The Most Dangerous Game, General Zaroff is that character. He is preceded as the antagonist character that is uncivilized, cruel, and reckless. General Zaroff plays the role of a dynamic and complex character that develops over the course of the story. In the introductory of the character General Zaroff, one would assume that he is a civilized man because of the fact that he is first presented as a well dressed wealthy man who lived on an island which was owned by himself. The weak of the world were put here to give the strong pleasure. I am strong. Why should I not use my gift? (page 7). This proves that he views the world in a primitive fashion, believing that the weak should suffer beneath the feet of the strong. He believes that the world is split into two. One being greater than the other or one being more superior over the other. Due to the fact that General Zaroff believes he is one of the strong, he assumes that he is obligated to exterminate the weak. General Zaroff is convinced that killing humans is acceptable. He enjoys the thrill of killing humans as he once did for tigers, hinting tigers ceased to interest me some years ago. I exhausted their possibilities, you see. No thrill left in tigers, no real danger. I live for danger (page 5). Killing humans instead of animals provides him pleasure and he does it for entertainment purposes because they can reason, after a fashion (page 7). This reveals that General Zaroff does not have the same feelings towards the values of life as others would. By that, one could assume that he does not have a clear idea of the difference between right and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Corner detection and its parameters: position, model and orientation are useful for many computer vision applications, such as object recognition, matching, segmentation, 3D reconstruction, motion estimation [2, 3, 4, 34.] indexing, retrieval, robot navigation and in our case edge tracking from geometry design. This need has driven the development of a large number of corner detectors [1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13.]. Other methods for corner detection are described in [14, 15]. These detectors compete with each other in terms of precision localization, accuracy, speed, and information they provide. Model classification and orientation are the most interest information needed in process of edge tracking. For some of these approaches, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Corner strength has been first defined by Noble [12] from which a slightly different version has been proposed by Harris and Stephen [11]: (1.2) The role of the parameter k is to remove sensitivity to strong edges. The Plessey operator uses estimates of the variance of the gradient of an image in a set of overlapping neighborhoods. This detector, which produced much interest, was extended by including local gray level invariants based on combinations of Gaussian derivatives [17]. One of the earliest detectors [16], which was based on the Moravec operator, defines corners to be local extrema in the determinant of the Hessian Matix, H=M. The Kitchen and Rosenfeld operator [5] uses an analysis of the curvature of the grey level variety of an image. The SUSAN operator [18] uses a form of grey level moment that is designed to detect V corners, and which is applied to other model of corner. The earlier Forstner [22] algorithm is easily explained in terms of H (Hessian Matrix). For a more recently proposed detector [20], it has been shown [21] that under affine motion, it is better to use the smallest eigenvalue of H as the corner strength function. Recently, George Azzopardi and Nicolai Petkov [36] propose a trainable filter which we call Combination Of Shifted FIlter REsponses (COSFIRE) and use for keypoint detection and pattern recognition. 2) Contour based methods These methods extract contours and then ... The venue features jazz ensembles pretty often, although I am not sure why... Are the Thais even bigger fans of jazz than the French, or is it a personal preference of the venue owner? My first concert experience was overall pretty good. I had a difficult time recognizing selections so I had to stay for the full two hours. I ate a lot of Thai food. Appetizer, entree, and dessert... I would have felt like a pig if the couple seated next to be hadn t order over double the amount of food I did. Point being, I highly recommend Ayuthai Restaurant, and now onto my critique. The vocalist was no Billy Holiday or Ella Fitzgerald, but she was not half bad either! I was overjoyed whenever she joined the group. She sang two songs at the end of the first hour and then another two at the end of the second. I was finally able to recognize and write down some selections! I had not been able to recognize a simple musical piece played without her accompaniment. They were not playing any of the jazz standards that I knew. No Ain t Misbehavin , My Favorite Things, or Body and Soul... The first song she sang was one whose instrumentation I would have recognized, though. Orange Colored Skies is one of my favorites. • 7. Health Plan For The Prevention Of Illness Illness Prevention Should Johnny or Jane receive their flu shot when the next flu season approaches? The answer depends upon your view of preventative care. There are very few issues on which all citizens agree and unfortunately, preventative healthcare is not one of them.. Programs which prevent disease have yielded significant benefits which include: increasing lifespans, improving many aspects of life , as well as increasing the society s potential (Kongstvedt, 2013). Preventing illness is a powerful as well as profitable tool for use in improving the health of our citizens. Yet, all individuals are not in agreement with encouraging preventative health care. Views Against Involvement in the Prevention of Illness There are various arguments individuals possess supporting their view against the prevention of illness. One argument is that health plans must select which services they deem preventative and will offer and which they will not . If an individual has a family history of breast cancer, for example, yet genetic testing is not considered preventative by their health plan they have received no benefit. Also, the benefits of preventive care are not universal. Individuals who were continuously insured had no reduction in their level of risk for preventive illnesses over a 2 year period (Gohmann, McCrickard Stevenson, 2013). Apparently having preventive services available does not indicate that the population who has access will use or benefit from the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. An Analysis Of Daniel Dennett s Consciousness Introduction As our scientific paradigm has shifted towards a materialist account of the world, many thinkers believe that appeals to the supernatural cannot provide truth. Consequently, beliefs that had once been considered adequate must now be reworked if not torn down entirely to fit this new world view. Daniel Dennett s book Consciousness Explained attempts to provide an account of our internal experience (i.e. Consciousness) that is rooted in the materialist world view. Though he is not the first to undertake this project, he takes issue with what he perceives to be the popular materialist account of consciousness, and seeks promote his own theory. With this essay I aim to offer an informative summary of the book followed by an evaluative dialogue of its central claims. Dismissal of Dualism Before introducing his theory Dennett offers a brief dismissal of Dualism. Dualism is the belief that there exists along with the body an immaterial soul. Depending on the variation of Dualism, the soul either contributes to or produces what we perceive to be conscious experience. Dennett takes issue with this view through inspection of the body s interaction with the soul. He argues that the soul being an immaterial entity shouldn t have any causal relationship with the material body. The aforementioned argument is grounded in empirical observation. As far as we know there isn t any evidence of unobservable material thing having causal interaction with the material world. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Created in 2001, Scrum has taken over as the development framework of choice by business and companies [7]. Scrums counterpart, the Waterfall Methodology has taken a back seat to Scrum. The traditional developmental framework used by companies and businesses previously was The Waterfall Methodology. When Scrum got developed it created a better understanding of how to develop projects in iterations rather than a linear waterfall style. Scrum is a developmental framework that is done in iterations and can be implemented on many different projects. This paper will go more into depth about the Scrum Methodology, The Three Artifacts, The Three Roles, Scrum Ceremonies, and The Waterfall Methodology. 1. Introduction/Background Scrum is a simple framework used to organize teams and get work done more productively with higher quality [7]. Scrum provides a productive working environment in which it allows teams to choose the amount of work to be done and how to best complete the work. The application of Scrum enforces a few simple rules that have the potential to make a team self organized into process that can achieve 5 to 10 times the productivity of a waterfall based process [5]. He was very firm in his orders and was a direct problem solver. Lincoln preferred to react to problems and to circumstances that others had created rather than to originate policies and lay out long range designs. At first, however, Lincoln believed that he should leave the running of the army to his generals. With the generals running the Union army, the leadership was inefficient. The ineffective leadership of the generals led to defeats of many battles in 1862. After many frustrating exchanges with his generals, Lincoln had to change leadership styles. He became more assertive and decisive. He became more direct with his orders and used his power as Commander in Chief to guide his army. In 1863, he issued direct instructions to his generals. Lincoln placed General Joseph Hooker, who had repeatedly defied his suggestions, into strict military relation to General Halleck. He told Halleck to give Hooker orders as he would have to obey them. In other words, Lincoln was a powerful leader as he was able to give out orders efficiently. As he changed this leadership style to a more dominant one, the Union army won important victories, notably at Vicksburg and Gettysburg. • 20. Ottoman And Italian Charity And Charity According to Skocpol and Somers, one of the major uses of comparative history is to make observations about institutions and structures and how they develop in different nations. Now when one thinks about points of comparison, they probably think about broad categories like religion, the state, etc., these are all obvious categories for comparative history, a less obvious topic however, is poor relief and charity. How to deal with the poor (in this case, orphans, those out of work, the sick, etc.) is an almost universal problem that every state or polity in the early modern Mediterranean had to address in some form or another. This makes poor relief and charity a prime candidate for comparison. For example, take the Italian states and the Ottoman Empire. On the surface, you can find vast differences between the two, Italian city states were Christian and were often individual cities that were independent of each other; meanwhile the Ottoman Empire was a vast, Muslim state compromising large amounts of territory. Despite these differences, one can find similarities in regards to how charity and poor relief were handled. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though the non realistic techniques have continued to remain prominent in numerous cultures, the majority of people neglect to implement these techniques into their own methods. However, embracing and adapting these techniques into realism would increase the effect that actors could have on the audience. Thus, the question follows: How does Japanese theatre manipulate the body to create effective acting, and how can actors apply them to realistic techniques? Unlike realistic techniques, which achieve their goals of realism through facial expressions, these Japanese methods send a message using their bodies, especially the feet. It consequently raises the question: How does Japanese theatre manipulate the body to create effective acting, and how can actors apply them to realistic techniques? Additionally, it is paramount to examine this since innumerable, granted not all, modern theatre pieces lack a point of view, or fail to express it. This is why actors must follow the example set by these techniques and apply it to themselves. Actors who only focus on creating a realistic performance and showing emotion are only achieving their partial potential if they lack control over their bodies. Noticing how society changes is also key, for even though Japanese actors attempt to follow western methods, their theatrical culture is known primarily for Noh, Kabuki, and other ancient arts. • 22. Police Enforcement And The Security Of The Virtual City... Abstract This essay is an examination of community policing as it relates to the interests of the Virtual City Police Department. Advances in technology has changed police work, officers are incorporating technology and sophisticated investigative techniques to solve crimes. This essay will focus on the pros and cons of community policing in a modern society, where police officers must rely more on technology and forensics than citizens to solve crimes and apprehend criminals. Introduction Police have been linked to citizens since the reform era redefined the nature of the relationship between police and citizens (Kelling, Moore, 1988). The new model demanded an impartial law officer who related professionally, neutrally, and in distant terms to citizens. Weaknesses in the model were displayed through a decentralized organizational structure which failed to provide supervision to patrol officers, resulting in a rise in police corruption (Kelling, Moore, 1988). Continuing reformations put officers in automobiles reasoning that the automobile would increase the extent of the patrol and give the officers a greater advantage over criminals (Kelling, Moore, 1988). As more officers patrolled in automobiles the rapport of community relations was lost, officers were no longer an intimate part of the community structure. Furthermore, another social orientated objective relates to him being less withdrawn and shy. By taking chances and making himself more vulnerable, is will allow him to be less tense with his peers. Joel and his fellow group members will be taught social skills during group counseling sessions. A large part of this will be taught through role playing common social scenarios with group members. Role playing is effective because it allows clients such as Joel to watch these skills be demonstrated by others in addition to practicing them himself (Mueser Bellack, 2007). Once Joel and his group members practice these improved social behaviors they will be provided with positive feedback on what they did well and corrective feedback on how they could have done better. In addition to role playing, Joel will be provided with assignments to practice what he learned during naturally occurring situations. For example, when Joel is frustrated with other students in the class for not being able to keep up or answer questions correctly, he can practice keeping his thoughts to himself and/or engages in more supportive behavior. A learning organization excels at both adaptive learning and generative learning. Senge describes five disciplines that are necessary for a learning organization. Personal mastery means working on developing one s vision, one s abilities, and one s focus of energy on a personal level. It is the ability and practice of examining the whole system on a regular basis, rather than just trying to fix certain problems. It is also using the conceptual framework and tools of systems thinking to clarify the full patterns and to understand how to effect the most change. Senge s five components of a learning organization all work together. Personal mastery, shared vision, team learning, and mental models lay the groundwork for the organization. And systems thinking is the glue that makes it together. In order for the learning organization to work, each of the five disciplines must be developed at the same time and incorporated with one another. • 25. The Sexualization Of Women s Status Sexualization of women in the media, be it as a marketing front for products or props in movies and music videos, serves to diminish women s status in society. Though women are universally exploited by the media, in North America women are depicted differently based on race. However, these depictions are polarized between women of colour, to be precise black women, and white women. When juxtaposed, white women appear as demure and black women as sexually aggressive. Mass media s portrayal of black women is not a unique phenomenon. In fact, from the time of slavery black women s bodies entice white men s darkest fantasies. This is clearly seen in the legacy of Saartijie Baartman. Baartman was a spectacle for the white woman and man s gaze. She was violently objectified, fetishized, and commodified during the 1600 s. Her legacy is important to African Diasporic women because society still misuses the black female body. Black women are still hypersexualized in society because they are viewed to have bigger butts, hips, breast, and lips that are not only condemned as abnormal like Saartijie Baartman but seen as uncontrollable and animalistic. Therefore, black women s bodies have been conditioned to represent a sexual deviance. The sexual representations of black women in the media dehumanizes them, which, in turn, reduces their worth and normalizes the objectification of black women. Math Philosophy Paper Math is developing concepts or standards that s important for teaching mathematics to students from Pre K to high school. In our changing world, those who understand and can do mathematics will have significant opportunities and options for shaping their future. (NCTM 2000, p.50). The two important tools to be an effective teacher is knowledge of mathematics and how students learn mathematics. The purposes of math education effect our life since the time we were able to walk. We were taught how to count on our fingers to being able to write our numbers to ten. Then as we got older, concepts were more challenging and involved critical thinking to solve the problems. In society today, math is being utilized in simple to complex avenues such as grocery shopping, measuring, budgeting, investments, architecture, science and technology to name a few. If we take a look around our environment signs, buildings, bridges, streets and just the different patterns and shapes all relate back to mathematics. My role as a math teacher in the classroom would be creating an inviting math environment for my students, being able to explain math to all my students in ways that they understand and model math in an effective way. The populists were pretty much the victims of economic distress and their arguments were founded on the basis of progressive movements. One of the populist failure was that they lost the national election when the farmers united to insist on economic reform. The Progressives made great efforts to solve the political problems that industrialization and urbanization were causing. They tried to wipe out political corruption by limiting power to big companies/ bosses and reduce the control of political machines. Many of the progressive reforms also supported the railroad legislation, conservation movement, and food and drug laws. This also included efforts to protect society by initiating prohibition and they also extended suffrage to women. The progressives succeeded at keeping the power of the railroad industry in the hands of the governments but failed at protecting the states right to control businesses. Finally in 1890 the first federal law was passed against monopolies known as the Sherman Anti Trust Act. Everything is beautiful, colorful, and perfect; at least that s how I felt. When I had my first boyfriend, I felt free and careless, There weren t bad days and I felt complete because he was by my side. Finally, someone understood my bad jokes and weird sense of humor. It was the best time of my life, and after a long time, I felt happy. I know it sounds cliché, but that s how stupidly happy love can make you. We have met for six years, he was in the same school as me and he later confesses to me 3 months after our graduation. Well, I push him a little bit, because he was afraid that I would reject him or that it would ruin our friendship, but I told him that I felt the same way, and since then we were together for two years as an official couple. Unfortunately, it didn t last long. He had a friend who spent a lot of time with him, and I guess that little by little he started to get feelings for her, he did the right thing and told me about it before he could cheat on me. We end up on good terms and till this day we talk to each other as good friends because either way our relationship at that point (last few months) felt empty and it was like we got bored of each other, we realized that what we felt was not love in a romantic way, but as friends. We care for each other because we ve known for six years. I had to admit that he hurt me at first and I was blind with anger ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Gilded Age And The Age Of Information The term the Gilded Age was coined by Mark Twain. By this, he meant that the period was glittering on the surface but corrupt underneath. With its period of extreme economic growth, there was tremendous wealth, but only for the wealthy. The Second Gilded Age, which some say was brought on as the Information Age, brings a level of inequality to America that has never been seen before. Experts believe that this shift could kill the American dream. The Gilded Age and the Age of Information are similar in terms of the vast economic inequality prevalent, the issues arising with immigration (both reform and influx), and the disparity between the political parties. Vast economic inequality prevalent The United States income inequality has risen drastically since the 1970 s and has not been this high since 1928. Economic inequality is the unequal differences in how assets, wealth, and income are dispersed among the people and different populations throughout the United States. It is often described as the gap between the rich and the poor. Wealthy industrialists and financiers such as John D. Rockefeller, founder of the Standard Oil Company; Andrew Carnegie, the self made steel tycoon and philanthropist; Cornelius Vanderbilt, known for developing the inland water trade and rapidly growing railroad industry after building the New York Central Railroad; and Jay Gould, a developer of the railroads, were labeled as robber barons, meaning an American capitalist who became ...
