Classical American music
Early music from America
Music with influence from Europe always uses a number of instruments, together with vocalists and
choirs. In some instances, the most current instruments like electric guitars are used together with
the traditional instruments of an orchestra. One prominent artist within this field was Hildegard of
Bingen. Hildegard was always known as a very influential nun during the time of middle ages and
developed a number of compositions that had unearthly beaury. One of such great composition is O
pastor animarum. This music is highly held up in the west to illustrate ... Show more content on

Composers like Amy Beach did counter this by generating very nice and serious music (Burkholder
Grout, 2014). Amy Beach usually composes Romantic classical music, which majority is yet to
compare with that of composers such as Brahmns. This music worked both unintentionally and
intentionally to assist the new America nation to seal its cultural identity separately from the
European countries. One great example of this kind of compositions is Beach s Gaelic Symphony,
the kind of musical elements which pay honor to the Scottish and Irish settlers who played great
role in the history of America (Monson Marvin, 2013).
Tin Pan Alley music
Tin Pan Alley music rose to the fame at the start of the 20th century, the same time the United
States was starting its meteoric rise to cultural greatness that is enjoying currently. This music
always appear very bright and happy. Composers like Gershwin were well known for developing
pieces that were brooding and dark. That is to say, they were music that had exuded optimism.
Rhapsody in Blue, by Gershwin is one of the prominent and most innovative piece that arose from
this genre. Within this music, Gershwin blended jazz and classical music to come up with a very
unique style of music (Monson

Policing in Kelsey: Budget Report
Professor Charles McClelland
Abstract
Working as the budget director for the mayor of the city of Kelsey, we have recently been getting
numerous complaints from the citizens about an increase in crime and also an issue of the public
demanding for more police officers. With the population of the city growing daily, the increase of
crime is continuing to progress as well. The mayor has informed us that this past year is the highest
increase in crime in the city s history, that the federal government has reduced the federal pass
through money for the state and that the budgeting group needs to revamp the budget for the
coming year. Within this document as the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are different types of budgeting that businesses typically use and those include Operating
budgets, Capital Budgets and there are many subtypes that exist because a budget can also be
created for special events, the recruitment and retention of new staff, and to manage the
advertising expenses and return on investments for a business (Demand Media, 1999 2012).
According to Demand Media (1999 2012), An operating budget outlines the total operating
expenses and income for the organization, typically for the period of a fiscal year. Capital budgets
evaluate the investments and assets of the business, and a cash budget shows the predicted cash
flow in and out of the business over a period of time (para.2 ). According to the Cost Benefit
Analysis (2012), Capital budgeting has at its core the tool of cost benefit analysis; it merely extends
the basic form into a multi period analysis, with consideration of the time value of money. In this
context, a new product, venture, or investment is evaluated on a start to finish basis, with care
taken to capture all the impacts on the company, both cost and benefits. When these inputs and
outputs are quantified by year, they can then be discounted to present value to determine the net
present value of the opportunity at the time of the decision ( Cost Benefit Analysis, 2012).

Explain The Roles And Differences Between Consumer And...
1.Differentiate between mechanized, semi automated, automated, and information directed
handling systems. The mechanized type handling system, is a combination through labor and
equipment handling that utilizes the help from facilities processing, receiving, and shipping.
Although a high percentage of overall cost is associated with this type of labor system. Also, with
having to use a high amount of human labor workers, there is more use of forklifts and carousels.
Where when using an automated system, there would be a cut in labor costs due to the use of
automated equipment that can accomplish the job that man power is being used to accomplish. A
lot of these costs can be pretty expensive up front, but in the long run they end up paying
themselves off. When a mix of both are used though, it s called semi automated. Which can in turn
help increase efficiency. But at the same time, using completely automated systems can help reduce
in any forms of error in sorting processes. Within semi automated systems, there is the final form of
information directed handling. This system uses information technology to help direct mechanized
or any automated equipment. 2.Explain the roles and differences between consumer and industrial
focused packaging. The roles and differences between consumer and industrial focused packaging
are pretty up to point. The consumer packaging is primarily focused on product and marketing
rather than focusing on getting the product to its destination

Gerda Weissmann
NOBLE be man, Helpful and good! For that alone Distinguisheth him From all the beings Unto
us known. This stanza from the poem, The Godlike , by Goethe was recited by Gerda Weissmann
after she was saved by Kurt Klein. Gerda repeated this poem in spite of the Germans who put
Gerda through so much. Gerda Weissmann was a courageous Holocaust survivor who faced death
in order to save innocent lives from the hands of the Germans.
Gerda was only a teen when her life was changed. Gerda Weissmann was fifteen when Poland was
taken by the Germans in 1939. Gerda and her parents were moved into their own basement, as an
Aryan family moved into their house. She was separated from her family, never to see them again.

Gerda Weissmann started this three hundred fifty mile trip in the winter. She stayed strong even
when her three friends passed away during the march. Gerda Weissmann looked after these one
hundred twenty young women after they were abandoned in an empty factory, until they were
liberated by Kurt Klein.
Gerda Weissmann is a strong figure, who stayed brave during the Holocaust. Gerda Weissmann has
taught me that you should be strong in the face of danger. She has taught me that even when you
are struggling to keep yourself alive, you still have the ability to stand for others and save them
as well. Even though I have just learned of the great deeds she has done, I am proud to say that
Gerda Weissmann and her story have helped me become a better person. I am astounded by her
strong will, and hope that I will also be brave like Gerda Weissmann.
He and he only The good can reward, The bad can he punish, Can heal and can save This stanza,
also from the poem by Goethe, was recited by Gerda Weissmann. Whatever she may mean when
she spoke this poem, one idea rings true. We have the will and the fight to continue to save
innocents from unworthy treatment, to save others. Whether it be stopping a bully or risking your
life for another s, we can make a difference in someone else s life. This is an important lesson that

Analysis Of Saturday Climbing By W. D Valgardson
Teen ager would argue that to be independant is to be free. Although parents would say their
child s desire for independence is strenuous like an uphill climb. This is confirmed in W.D.
Valgardson s short story Saturday Climbing where Barry struggles to climb a deceiving rock
face which is analogous to his relationship with his daughter. Not only if Moira will go to college
in the upcoming year but also which campus she will attend.Through this narrative, Valgardson
suggests that when parents provide copious amounts of security, conflict will arise and children
will rebel; only when a balance is found between security and allowing independence will the
relationship be harmonious. When Moira is young Barry is able to provide full security for her
because she is fully dependant on him. Barry recalls how the climbing was easy; there were
large handholds, so that at first climbing was little more difficult than walking up stairs (p. 52).
Both Barry and Moira are comfortable with the amount of security and any conflicts are easily
solved. Barry can readily protect Moira from any possible dangers. Even as Moira becomes an
adult Barry nostalgically sees her as a little girl, intricately constructed of fragile paper (p. 56).
Therefore he must protect her from anything that might damage her. Barry would like Moira to
always follow him so he can keep life simple and uncomplicated (p. 53) by setting any necessary
protection for her. However, because Moira is so sheltered and suffocated by her father, as she
grows older she is quick to separate herself and become independent. Providing security becomes
increasing difficult for Barry just as the incline on the cliff becomes more challenging;
unexpectedly, the surfaces smoothed; the places where he could get a secure hold were spread
farther and farther apart. At the same time, the numerous cracks swindled until there was no place
to set any protection (p. 52). Moreover Barry and Moira s relationship beings to impede, activities
like chess where they could connect becomes obsolete. Moira often comes home late smelling of
marijuana and when asked if anything is bothering her Barry is answered with a cold contained

Marijuana in the New World Essay
Marijuana in the New World The first definite record of the marijuana plant in the New World dates
from 1545 AD, when the Spaniards introduced it into Chile. It has been suggested, however, that
African slaves familiar with marijuana as an intoxicant and medicine brought the seeds with them
to Brazil even earlier in the sixteenth century. There is no record that the Pilgrims brought
marijuana with them to Plymouth but the Jamestown settlers did bring the plant to Virginia in
1611, and cultivated it for its fiber. Marijuana was introduced into New England in 1629. From then
until after the Civil War, the marijuana plant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
British mercantile policy hampered American hemp culture for a time during and after the colonial
period by offering heavy bounties on hemp exported from Ireland; but the American plantings
continued despite this subsidized competition. At various times in the nineteenth century large
hemp plantations flourished in Mississippi, Georgia, California, South Carolina, Nebraska, and
other states, as well as on Staten Island, New York. The center of nineteenth century production,
however, was in Kentucky, where hemp was introduced in 1775. One Kentuckian, James L.
Allen, wrote in 1900: The Anglo Saxon farmers had scarce conquered foothold in the Western
wilderness before they became sowers of hemp. The roads of Kentucky . . . were early made
necessary by the hauling of hemp. For the sake of it slaves were perpetually being trained, hired,
bartered; lands perpetually rented and sold; fortunes made and lost.... With the Civil War began the
decline, lasting still. The invention of the cotton gin and of other cotton and wool machinery, and
competition from cheap imported hemp, were major factors in this decline

Islamic Industry Continues to Grow
The Islamic finance industry continues to grow following continued internationalisation efforts.
Last year s growth was an impressive 16.5%, accounting for 25.7% of total assets in the banking
system. The foreign currency business also grew with assets amounting to RM 18.1 billion in 2013.
Meanwhile in the takaful sector, total assets of takaful funds grew by 10% to RM20.9 billion, while
total takaful contributions accounted for 14% of total premiums in the industry. To increase the
potential return to contributors, takaful operators were allowed to invest abroad any amount of
investment linked funds of resident clients. This is an increase from the previous limit of 50% of
net asset value.

Unfortunately, if we want to know how many moves it will take to transfer 100 disks from pole
A to pole B, we will first have to find the moves it takes to transfer 99 disks, 98 disks, and so on
and so forth. Therefore the recursive pattern will not be much help in finding the time it would take
to transfer all the disks.
However, the recursive pattern can help us generate more numbers to find an explicit (non
recursive) pattern. Here s how to find the number of moves needed to transfer larger numbers of
disks from pole A to pole C, remembering that n equals the number of moves needed to transfer n
1 disks from post A to post C:
1.For 1 disk it takes 1 move to transfer 1 disk from post A to post C;
2.For 2 disks, it will take 3 moves: 2n + 1 = 21 + 1 = 3
3.For 3 disks, it will take 7 moves: 2n + 1 = 23 + 1 = 7
4.For 4 disks, it will take 15 moves: 2n + 1 = 27 + 1 =15
5.For 5 disks, it will take 31 moves: 2n + 1 = 215 + 1 =31

In the following graph, the exponential function has a very similar trend to the trend of y=2x. It is
important to note that the exponential function is actually y=ax where a 0. Using y=1x would only
produce a horizontal line. Therefore the next value used was y=2x. In order to make the function fit
better with the points we make transformations that slightly change the function. The first step is to
lower the line so that the line can become closer to the data points. With this data set it sloa stands
to reason that there are negative numbers very much possible. It would work in the exponential
equation 2x 1.
Conclusion Thanks to the legend of the Tower of Hanoi, if one disc was transferred every second

Introduction
ChocoMint is a bar of chocolate under ChocoHeaven, which is a distributor of organic
chocolate. In recent years, the business of ChocoMint bar encountered some problems. Since the
ChocoMint bar is manufactured overseas, the supply chain could be unreliable. Besides, as
ChocoMint is stored at special storage locations in the UK, the storage capacity for this kind of

It is not a suitable model for the data that beyond its specific range of domain. Usually, the valid
range of domain of a linear equation is quite narrow when it is applied to practical problem.
Finally, linear models are typically based on a set of assumptions such as the requirement of
simplification of the data. They are not really suitable models for those data with complex context.
4.2 A more appropriate model
In the case of ChocoMint bar, the hyperbolic model might be more appropriate.
Figure4.2 hyperbolic relationship between monthly demand for ChocoMint and relative prices
y = 836.78x 0.854 RВІ = 0.8488 R = 0.9213
4.3 Justification of the hyperbolic model s higher suitability
Firstly, compared with the linear model, the value of correlation R of this hyperbolic model is closer
to 1. Thus, it indicates that the hyperbolic model represents the relationship between the price and
monthly demand much better.
Secondly, in the linear model, it shows that when the price decreases to 0 (which means the
ChocoMint bar is free), there is a limited demand for ChocoMint bar. However, the demand for
free goods are usually infinite in practice, which is exactly demonstrated by the hyperbolic model.
As the hyperbolic graph above indicates, when the price is approaching zero, the graph does not
intercept the y axis. On the contrast, it is infinitely close to y axis with increasing values of
monthly demand, which

Similarities Between The Book And The Movie The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby Romance, love, and destiny. Connections are formed like bridges built of
various things; love, trust, money, fate. Some bridges are stronger than others and some bridges
connect people who perhaps shouldn t be connected. The movie The Great Gatsby better
expresses the romantic relationships and connections between characters. Between Tom and
Daisy, whose relationship may have more to do with survival than love, with Myrtle and Tom,
the bridge between them connecting two souls searching for something more in life. And then
there are bridges like the one between Jordan and Nick, filled with lies and a bridge not often
travelled, and if you re lucky you come across a bridge like Gatsby and Daisy s, which is made
of love but filled with obstacles. These bridges play a key part in the story and the movie most
definitely does a better job at expressing these connections between characters. Tom and Daisy
have a very complicated relationship and the movie better demonstrates their complex relationship
than the book. The film shows all the small gestures they share, and the novel gives the
impression Daisy somewhat resented Tom after Gatsby s death, and the movie also humanizes
Tom on a higher level than the book. In the film when Daisy told Tom she had never loved him
while they were in town she immediately after addresses Gatsby with a cold reply detaching
herself from the situation and seems angry at Gatsby making her tell Tom she didn t love him (The

New Coke Failure
The Failure of New Coke Wright State University MKT 3500 01 Marketing Research By Nicole

with a potentially company killing problem. They were losing market share quickly to their
competitors. Pepsi was stealing a portion of the younger generation with their advertising
campaign, and they proved that consumers liked Pepsi better with the Pepsi Challenge. To combat
their falling market share Coke decided to introduce a new formula. This formula was based on the
fact that people preferred the sweeter taste of Pepsi. Once the new formula was finished, Coke

Another reason Coke was worried was that when given the choice in supermarkets consumers
were choosing Pepsi. These factors were all considered in the decision to dramatically change
Coke s formula, which had been around for 99 years. The Research After Pepsi began
conducting taste tests, which were showing more and more people were beginning to like
Pepsi, Coke decided that it was time for them to also conduct some market research and see if
there was anything they could change in their formula. The marketing vice president along with
the president of Coke decided to send a team of marketers out on Project Kansas and conduct a
nation wide taste test. With the help of two Atlanta based market research firms, MARC and
Kenneth Hollander Associates, Coke tested their new product in over 30 cities (Fierman, 1985).
The results were overwhelmingly in favor of new Coke, 55% chose the new Coke over the old
and 52% chose it over Pepsi. Overall, Coke spent two years and around $4 million dollars
researching the new Coke formula. They used a variety of methods for research, such as:
interviewing of around two hundred thousand people; blind taste tests; focus groups; and surveys.
With the numerous methods used to test the new Coke formula, Coke was sure they had a winner
with the new formula. During the blind taste tests consumers preferred the new, sweeter Coke. In

Symbolism Of Sleep In Macbeth
In the Bible it says, Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put a person asleep, an
innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty . God speaks about the harm of
killing the innocent and the people asleep. In the play, Macbeth, by William Shakespeare uses this
idea of sleep symbolizing the innocence and when provoked will lead to the eternal sleep of honest
people, the madness upon the guilty, and the death of innocence. The protagonist, Macbeth,
challenges god s testament and does wicked actions which reel in the sleep theme. Firstly,
Macbeth provokes the symbol of sleep which is a gift of god by leading honest people into eternal
sleep, death. Macbeth s actions reflect his character as vile perpetrator... Show more content on

Macbeth hears cries that continuously haunt his life. It cries, Sleep no more to all the house;
Glamis hath murdered sleep; and therefore Cawdor shall sleep no more (II, ii, l.44). This quote
interconnects with the sleep theme because Glamis and Cawdor are both Macbeth s roles prior
to being king and that now that Macbeth has killed a person in their sleep, he shall never sleep.
This idea shows the main point of madness if you don t go to sleep you will be tired and start
feeling mad and ill tempered. Another example would be Lady Macbeth doing strange things in her
sleep. Her servants say, I have seen her rise from her bed, throw her night gown upon her...the
benefit of sleep, and do the effects of watching (V, i, l. 3 7). This shows the madness of Lady
Macbeth who helped Macbeth murder King Duncan which makes her guilty was in the bubble in
her mind that she is doing everything awake but she is doing it in her sleep. This madness is led
by the guilt of killing the innocence and depriving them of their peaceful sleep. Macbeth s power
influences madness, eternal sleep and death of

Catherine De Medici The Main Cause Of The Saint...
Was Catherine de Medici the main cause of The Saint Bartholomew s Massacre? Catherine was
an Italian woman who married a French King, Henry II. They had ten children of which three
were boys: Francis II, Charles IX and Henry III would later rule as king. Catherine enjoyed her
role as Queen and mother and had no involvement with the King s affairs. It wasn t until after the
King s death that she made her presence known. There are a few reason s why The Saint
Bartholomew s Day Massacre occurred. Could it have began with the Huguenots assuming the
Spanish were planning to destroy them, and decided to attack first. Catherine may not have had
any intention on starting the second war against the Huguenots but her being in the right place
with the wrong person did. It was only because of Catherine s visit to her daughter Queen
Elizabeth of Spain while in the presence of a catholic and military leader, Duke of Alba, did the
Huguenots leaders think the Spanish were plotting an attack against them. The Huguenots
attempted and failed to kidnap King Charles IX, which proved to be a bad decision that started the
second war. This action caused Catherine, as Regent to Charles IX, to drop her policy of tolerating
the Huguenots and siding with the Catholics. She issued an edict withdrawing all freedom of

discussion. a.Aspect: Aspect grammatical category of verbs denotes the flow of time related to
the event they express. Unlike tense that is semantically rather related to the event in time,
aspect is about time moving through the event (Riemer 314). The difference between, for
example, I walked and I was walking is in our view of the two events, the first as an event that
happened in a certain point in the past while the second viewed with an emphasis on the
temporal sense of the event over which it happened. Distinctions can be made between
perfective and imperfective aspect. The marking of the two and appearance is different among
languages. For example, Mandarin Chinese offers two perfective markers; le and guo. However,
in English, perfective aspect forms are those verbs in the simple form like read, ate, walk... and
imperfective forms are progressive forms such as am walking, was reading, were eating... It is
crucial to understand that the completion or duration of the event does not distinguish between
perfective and imperfective aspect because both can be expressed by either form. For, example,
the use of struggled in the sentence Ali struggled during his fourth round clearly shows that the
perfective form can be used to express an event that happened over a period of time. there is also

The Secret Sharer
A dopplegänger is a ghostly double of a person that haunts its living counterpart. In Joseph
Conrad s novella, The Secret Sharer, Leggatt is the Captain s dopplegänger. At the beginning of
the story, the Captain is isolated, insecure, fearful of failure, and a stranger to the crewmen and
himself. However, with the help of his dopplegänger, Leggatt, the Captain transforms into a
strong, confident man, in full command of his ship. Leggatt serves the role of a teacher and friend
in the Captain s life, helping him in his struggle to gain respect of his crewmen and himself. He
becomes the secret sharer by sharing his good qualities such as bravery and strength with the
Captain. In the novel, the Captain is isolated from the rest of his crewmen.... Show more content on

It also shows how much the Captain has changed his relationship with Leggatt. The Captain s
words to his crew become more demanding and direct. For instance, when the Second Mate
questions the Captain about opening the quarter deck ports, the Captain responds by, The only
reason you need concern yourself about is because I tell you to do so. Have them open wide and
fastened properly (40). This shows that the Captain has become more confident and his feelings
of inadequacy has vanished. He no longer feels insecure about himself or ordering of his
crewmen. He also orders the men to move the ship closer to the island, giving Leggatt a chance to
escape and survive. The Chief Mate responds by saying, Do you mean, sir, in the dark amongst the
lot of all them islands and reefs and shoals? (45). Instead of hesitating or doubting, the Captain
responds calmly, saying that they must go to find the land breezes. This shows the Captain s
confidence in himself and his judgement. Although the crew is afraid, the Captain fearlessly leads
the ship to the island. This is the first time that the Captain has taken full control of the ship without
second guessing himself or worrying about what the crewmen will think of him. No one in the
world should stand now between us, throwing a shadow on the way of his silent knowledge and
mute affection, the perfect communion of a seaman with his first command

The Role Of The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court
The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) was created by Congress in the Foreign
Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) of 1978. The role of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance
Court is to provide judicial oversight of Intelligence Community activities in a classified setting. It
is composed of federal judges appointed by the Chief Justice of the United StatesSupreme Court.
The decisions of the court can be reviewed by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of
Review (FISCR) and the Supreme Court. After the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act
Amendments Act of 2008, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court has to rule on important and
novel Fourth Amendment issues raised by the government s proposed targeting and minimization
procedures (EPIC, 2015). The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court was originally composed of
seven district judges appointed by the Chief Justice of the United States to serve for a maximum of
seven years. Amendments in the USA Patriot Actincreased the number of judges on the Court to
eleven, with three required to live within twenty miles of the District of Columbia in 2001. The
Chief Justice appoints a Presiding Judgefor the court from amongst these eleven judges. The
Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court operates out of a secure location in the federal courthouse
in Washington, D.C., but can authorize searches or surveillance anywhere within the United States

Is Mayella Ewell Powerful Or Powerful Analysis
Is Mayella ewell powerful? That is the question that is asked and must be answered.Throughout
the story To kill a mockingbird Mayella shows some glimpses of power but not enough to say
she is powerful. For example in the beginning she shows that she can not even control her home
life so how can she be powerful. Also she shows that she is just too poor for her to have power. Now
in the next three paragraphs I will explain my thinking on why I believe Mayella is not powerful.
In the first paragraph I will explain why and how I believe Mayella Ewell is not powerful, with the
use of class.First off I would like to show you one of my biggest reasons for believing Mayella is
not powerful Maycombs Ewells lived behind the town garbage dump in what used to be a negro
cabin .(DBQ:Is mayella Ewell powerful?13)The second reason I believe Mayella Ewell is not
powerful while using class for my examples is that longs as he keeps on callin me ma am and sayin
miss Mayella.I don t hafta take his sass, I ain t called upon to take it (DBQ: Is Mayella Ewell
powerful?.17). Now you can see even in her dialect she does not know or have class, you can also
tell by the way she is not used to being called ma am and miss Mayella.Next I will show how much
of a lower class the Ewells are in Mayella Ewell must have the loneliest person in the world...; white
people wouldn t have anything to do with her because she lived among pigs (DBQ:Is mayella

Intelligence Trap
What holds me back from becoming an improved critical thinker is a method of thinking called
the intelligence trap. The intelligence trap, founded in Edward de Bono s book, de Bono s
Thinking Course. The intelligence trap is when an opinion is formed initially and then due to
higher intelligence or practice in debating, is naturally able to defend the opinion, even against
scrutiny. This cause a trap where there no need to seek out other opinions, results, or
contradiction due to others inability to successfully challenge the opinion. My father loved to
debate when I was an adolescent, and I emulated this at a young age. Unfortunately, he was more
interested in winning rather than making a cohesive argument. At the end of every argument or
disagreement, he had to be the victor. Eventually, I was able to hold my opinions against him.
But this is how I devolve into this trap, I learned how to defend my already formed position, but
not necessarily taking the time to flush out the details, or seek alternatives. I was taught and
eventually saw it as a weakness to dawn a new opinion in the middle of the moment. I developed
my method of defending myself over time growing after every confrontation. My vernacular grew
as I senesce. This only increased my confidence incrementally.... Show more content on

I need to learn to say I do not know or I do not know enough to form a valid opinion before

speaks volumes to me is, You cannot dig a hole in a different place by digging the same hole
deeper. said by Dr de Bono. He uses this colloquial metaphor to project an image of an expert and

The Bottom Line By Anne Lamott
The bottom line is that I like my first drafts to be blind, unconscious, messy efforts; that is what
gets me the best material (Egan). Egan says that when writing, she just lets her words flow
regardless of how it may turn out, if it sounds bad, or whether it contains multiple mistakes or
grammatical errors. For Egan, getting the work done is all that matters first. Once she gets the first
draft done, then she worries about critiques. The same attitude that Egan portrays in her quote is
similar to the attitude that Anne Lamott holds in her article Shifty First Drafts. Anne Lamott
explicates that like all writers, she also finds it a challenge at times to generate her first writing
drafts. In her article she looks to show her audience writers that it s okay to strugglewith first drafts
because very few writers really know what they are doing until they ve don t it . Overall, Lamott
just wants writers to know that almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts , so
regardless of the horrible results that may surface from the first draft, writers just need to focus on
just getting any and all ideas down on paper. Connecting with her audience, Lamott uses heartfelt
personal examples and experiences alongside ethos; which aids her in offering advice via everyday
word choice that is placed in a sequential order.
Throughout her work, Lamott utilizes everyday diction. She uses words such as we and you. By
using the words we and you Lamott makes her article

A Brief Note On Karl Marx And The Capitalist System
1.According to Karl Marx, the proletariats are the people who are most exploited by the capitalist
system. They are the workers that work for the boss that owns the means of production (194). The
employers own the means of production and therefore make the rules. Leaving room for
exploitation. It is the working class that makes up the proletariatfaction of society. The working
class makes up about 30 percent of the total population and includes individuals that, in part, work
as electricians, unskilled factory and construction workers, and retail workers (194).
Individuals of the working class are also affected by what Karl Marx refers to as Work Alienation.
Work Alienation is an outcome job holders face when they lose control over either the work
process, the product of their labor, or both (194). Generally, this means a lack of satisfaction in
their jobs and what they do. Work Alienation occurs when only simple mundane tasks are
required of workers. A good example of this is factory jobs. With the rise of technology, less and
less work is being required of workers and machinery is taking on most of the responsibility. Often
leaving workers to only do simple tasks or preform button pushing work. Marx described this
phenomenon as man becoming an appendage of the machine (194).
2.The working class has a very unique set of cultural, human and social capital. As usually is the
case, cultural capital is passed down through family members and close

a.Monitor forms a company owned research division in India
Pros
Develop knowledge center in fast growing emerging economy. Opening a knowledge center in
India allows Monitor to gain a foothold in what is sure to be a significant economic contributor to
the world economy in the coming years. Although the economy has slowed down recently, and the
on going problems of political corruption and poor infrastructure make business in India

Acquire the leveraged economics of thought leadership. The unique model of thought leadership
would allow Monitor to develop research papers or models that it could resell to multiple clients.
This dynamic produces far better economics than the selling human hours model as it is more
profitable on a scaled basis. Since Monitor already has a well established base of clients with its
consulting relationship, developing intellectual property it could sell to those clients and use to
build out its client rolodex will serve to improve the notoriety of the firm. In addition to the
profitability this model provides, it gives the firm a reputation for being a thought leader in the
industry and could increase client pull if executed successfully.
Cons
Dilutes brand with possibly inferior work product. The downside to acquiring talent in an emerging
economy is that in many cases that talent may not be able to product a work product that is on par
with expectations in countries where your client base operations. While measures can be taken to
improve quality ( increasing the number of employees + hiring only the top talent ), these measures
will only serve to increase the costs of operating in this environment and undermine the primary
driver for entering the country. Further, obtaining the right mix of cost and quality will require
significant managerial oversight, which the firm may not have the bandwidth to provide.
Profitability gains may not be achieved due to

Sontag, a writer, comment on photography does relate to back to the image on many levels. For
example, the unnatural colours of her hair and skin are in startling use as the girl is transformed
into a creature, which is alien to us. The windswept hair supports this impression by suggesting
wildness. One could also interpret the embroidery of the garment as the richly coloured skin of a

The Successful Outcome Of The United Nations Essay
The successful outcome of the United Nations 21st annual Conference of the Parties (COP21)
raised hopes and expectations of concerted global efforts to tackle climate change, and brought
forward a whole raft of questions:
How will this affect the momentum behind the deployment of key renewable technologies and the
drive for greater energy efficiency?
Ample supply is keeping downward pressure on fossil fuel prices, coal, oil and natural gas. When
and how will market dynamics change or might lower prices for some fuels be here to stay?
The impact of local pollution, often energy related, on air quality is a matter of rising social and
political concern in many countries. How can governments act to tackle this problem and what
would these actions mean for the energy sector?
The World Energy Outlook 2016 published by the International Energy Agency(IEA) is coming out
in November and will shed some light on these questions with insightful analysis.
In the meantime, there is one matter that everyone can agree on: for the near future, energy
demand will continue to grow. How it is produced and used will be a critical factor in the future of
the global economy, geopolitics and the environment.
With that in mind, McKinsey Company s Global Energy Insights team took a hard look at the data,
modeling energy demand by country, sector and fuel mix, with an analysis of current conditions,
historical data and country level assessments. On this basis, McKinsey put together

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Trade Union In Malaysia
INTRODUCTION In the 20th century, trade unions is an important labour force through which
working people have a collective voice at work and an avenue to equality, fair treatment and
economic security. However, in the 21st century, it was argued that organised labour seems heading
for extinction (The Economist, 21 September 2006) as cited in Schnabel (2012). It seems that trade

Music s Impact On The Music Revolution
Musical revolutions can be defined by three key aspects which are: the venues music was made
in, the way the audience listened to the music, and the way the music was disseminated. These
are unique in that there is no clear separation between them and at times some of the changes that
have been made can impact all three at the same time. The age in which we live in is
experiencing all of these aspects to one degree or another. It is difficult for someone my age to
understand that we are living in a musicrevolution the likes of which has never been seen before.
From what I have learned in the History of American Pop music class it seems that the venues
which music has been made in will remain consistent for many years then drastically change. The
first music industry we have learned of consisted of composers who would write music for the
performers who would perform them with the possibility that someone in the audience could go to
the music shop and purchase the sheet music with the intention to play it themselves. This aspect
influenced the higher classes more than the lower classes since you would have to have money to
see the concert, buy the music, and own an instrument to play it on. At that time there was no
major companies who consistently put out music for the purpose of being consumed. The first
time we can see this concept being readily applied would be in Tin Pan Alley. Although Tin Pan
Alley was still producing sheet music it was created for the purpose

Reflection On Organizational Change
I first off would like to start by saying these past 8 weeks have been a great experience! I have
been able to learn and gain new skills and tools that will not only help me in the rest of my
schooling, but will be very beneficial when it comes to my career. I have really enjoyed getting
to see all different experiences out there and a variety of perspectives on what one has done or
not when in that situation. It certainly has opened my eyes up to the world and I feel I am more
aware and ready for what might come my way now. Although after reading the Let s Drive a
Stake In the Heart of the Industrial Age! you never really know what s going to happen next. I
plan to use all the OB tools that I have been able to learn about in this term to assist the
transformational process in organizational models. Using these tools will helpthis process go more
smoothly and make it easier not only for the company but for the employees and customers. The
transformational process in any company is hard and can be very challenging during a time like
this. I believe that changeis challenging just from my experiences and that it can take more time
than one thinks or wants it to. I personally am not a fan of change, so when there is a change
going on in my personal or professional life I hope it is quick and easy (which it is rarely ever).
I have learned though change is good. As much as I may hate it, it is necessary and it cannot be
avoided. I learned these past weeks and have seen examples where some individuals in a
company will resist change, even leaders, and that is where I find the OB tools to help and make
the change as easy as possible for everyone in the company. I know this is something I will do to
assist the transformational process in organizational models in my future company. I will use the
strategies we have learned in this course to help and be more effective. One concept in this course
I have learned and it has stuck with me is focusing on employees. Without good relationships with
employees and making sure they are happy and acknowledged the work within the company will
not get done effectively and efficiently. As a manager, I will make sure that all employees are

Charles De Gaulle
Following World War II, it was quite clear that France was in need of political assistance. After
the French defeat, the occupation of Nazis forced the government to either ally with the enemy,
or to be destroyed from the inside out. The government, run by PГ©tain, decided to ally with the
Nazi invaders, which established what is known as the Vichy government. Seeing as this was the
official government of France at the time, any Frenchmen who were to speak out against the
government were to be seen as heretical, and even charged with treason, under the dictatorial
Hitler regime. Luckily for the people of France, there was such a man who decided to fight for a
free France. Charles de Gaulle is the reason that France, following a complete overthrow by a
dictatorial world power, once again became one of the most powerful and prestigious countries in
the entire world. De Gaulle wanted, and pushed for, France to become a strong empire, a rebuild of

Photosynthesis and Respiration
All organisms on earth depend on photosynthesis, in which light energy is used to make sugar and
other food molecules from carbon dioxide and water. For example, plants and other photo
synthesizers need only energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, and water from the soil to
make the sugar glucose. Photosynthesisis the most important chemical process on earth because it
provides food for virtually all organisms, not only for photo synthesizers but for the organisms that
eat them. Plants can capture the energy of the sun by a chemical process called photosynthesis.
This chemical reaction can be described by the following simple equation:
6CO2 + 6H2O + light energy = C6H12O6 + 6O2
The product of photosynthesis is a carbohydrate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The CO2 is converted into malic acid and then converted back to CO2 during the day when light
is present, thus producing sugars, while the stomata are closed and greatly reducing water loss.
Plants convert the energy from light into simple sugars, such as glucose. This food may be
converted back to water and carbon dioxide, releasing the stored energy through a process called
respiration. This energy is required for growth in nearly all organisms. Simple sugars are also
converted to other sugars and starches (carbohydrates) which may be transported to the stems and
roots for use or storage, or they may be used as building blocks for more complex structures, e.g.
oils, pigments, proteins, cell walls, etc. Photosynthesis is dependent on the availability of light. In
other words, as sunlight increases in intensity photosynthesis increases. This results in greater food
production. Many garden crops, such as tomatoes, respond best to maximum sunlight. Tomato
production is cut drastically as light intensities drop. Only two or three varieties of greenhouse
tomatoes will produce any fruit when sunlight is minimal in fall and spring. Water plays an
important role in photosynthesis in several ways. First, it maintains a plant s turgor or the firmness
or fullness of plant tissue. Turgor pressure in a cell can be compared to air in an inflated balloon.

democratic reforms failed. For instance, where an accepted appeal can be voted into law,
referendum which involved the review of the proposed laws or direct election of senators instead of
using the normal method of legislation. Progressives always recorded success in pushing of reforms
into laws. The explanation for this could be attributed to the high level of education that the
progressives hard, consequently being more influential. The initiatives that they pushed became
triumphant than the legislative docket (Piott, 2006; Smith, 2012). This paper seek to explore the
programs that Roosevelt and Wilson initiated in a bid to advocate for progressivism.
Progressivism was powerfully present after Theodore Roosevelt took on power from McKinley,
following his assassination in 1901. Roosevelt became the first president to have a linking to the
aspect progressivism. He was dubbed a man as a champion of cautious, moderate change. His
intent was not to transform the legislation of government, but to create a fair approach in dealing
with workers and businessmen. He was marked in history to be the first head of state to have ever
arbitrated a labor dispute without defending the employers (Smith, 2012).
Roosevelt did successfully challenged the Northern Securities Company railroad combination. J. P.
Morgan had secluded Northern Securities as a holding company. Stock were stored in

A Revolution of the Distressed Essay
A Revolution of the Distressed
The world today is faced with many obstacles concerning all the peoples of the world. The issues
range from globalization to the state of the environment with every political, economic, and human
interest lying in between. It is these human interests that will be brought to light by examining the
revolutions of the Incan indigenous beginning in the early part of the twentieth century. Running
parallel to their North American neighbors, the native peoples of Peru have lived in seriously
impecunious conditions as the result of ethno racial discrimination handed them by their colonial
occupiers; Spanish speakers. These revolutions, namely Shining Path, would eventually define the
gap between the rich ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ever since the time of Spanish colonial rule, Incans were being treated completely unfairly. And
in the late 18th century, Peru began to see the first of its native revolutions under Jose Gabriel
Tupac Amaru II in 1780. These uprisings were headed by Indian nobility who showed antipathy
towards the Spanish administration as a result of being forced to subject their own people to
taxes, unfair market prices, and slave labor. The Incans throughout the time of Spanish colonial
rule had hopes for the renewal of their age old empire. However despite at least 100 revolts against
colonialism the empire was never revived. (Strong 41)
It was not until the 1920 s that the Incan rebellion would make any significant progression
excluding the pride they may have taken in brutal revenge and retaliation murders and massacres
against Spaniards. In this decade Peru witnesses the first shift from predominantly unorganized
revolution to serious political development. Although the movement known as Alianza Popular
Revolucionaria Americana (APRA) was crushed under the Leguia regime, the faction was the first
political party to legally call for reform in regard to the condition of the highland populations or
peasantry. Strong points out that its leader, Victor Haya de la Torre, had a poem

An Example Of A Professional Sports Athlete
Introduction When anyone thinks of business, shopping is most likely at the top of that list, if
there even is a list. A person enters a department store, specialty store or a grocery store, selects an
item or more then proceeds to checkout. A form of currency is exchanged and voilГ, business has
been done. When children are asked what a business person does, the usual reply is that a
business person wears a suit and rides a train to work. While the everyday child and the Average
Joe may be seen as business knowledge novices, they certain have heard many key words in
business formations. An example would be a professional sports athlete. The agent works on
behalf of the athlete and has a contract detailing the work and the compensation received. Joe the
sports fan is well aware of this type relationship but probably doesn t know that Agency is the
business term used. Agency and its application will be covered later. Business also has different
types of organizations, to include partnerships, franchises and corporations. How these entities can
be formed, their types and the powers they hold will be discussed. It is also important in business
to know who is in charge, who runs the business and who can decide what the business will do in
the present and the future. While all these terms and ideas are exciting, the most exciting entity in
business is money. Everyone wants to make lots of money and the right business can help to
achieve that goal. The finances,

The Sea s Ability Of An Intertidal Rock Platform
Introduction
The sea s ability to produce an intertidal rock platform was first commented on as early as 1846
by Ramsey, and then decisively classified into four themes by Trenhaile (1980), which is still
relevant to scientist studying the formations today. The four themes are: 1) the role of marine and
subaerial processes in platform development; 2) morphology of shore platforms; 3) modelling
platform development; and 4) measuring rates of erosion (Stevenson 1, 2000). Research has
commonly assumed that the origins of the shore platform are wave cut, however in recent years
there has been research into a wider range of platforms and process leading to more theories.
Defining and Distinguishing between Shore Platforms
In order attempt to distinguish between different types of shore platforms, the most basic form
of description is those, which slope seaward, and then those with a distinctive seaward edge
characterised by a cliff (Stephenson et al., 2013). Sunamura has helped characterize those cliffs
with the use of calling the slope edge a Type A Platform and a Cliff edge and a Type B Platform,
this is represented in Figure 1. Fig. 1. A visual representations of shore platform categories as
described by Sunamura (1992) in Kennedy (2015).
Morphological Approaches
It is a contentious issue amongst researchers as to whether weathering or wave erosion have a bigger
role in the development of a shore platform. Bartrum, 1935; Hills, 1972) both regard wave erosion
as the

Being A Workaholic In The Censors By Luisa Valenzuela
The story The Censors written by Luisa Valenzuela is about a man named Juan climbing up the
ladder of his career as a censor to find the letter he sent. However, as the story progresses, Juan
became devoted to his work and forgot his original purpose of becoming a censor. Valenzuela
wrote, Soon his work became so absorbing that his noble mission blurred in his mind.
(Valenzuela, 41). At the end, he saw his career as the priority over his life, and he was killed. From
this story, I was inspired to write about being a workaholic, which is defined as a person who
compulsively works excessively hard and long hours (oxforddictionaries.com). The issue of being
a workaholic is not as simple as it sounds. Being a workaholic doesn t only... Show more content on

Workaholism also affects ones health substantially. In The Censors , Juan was so loyal to his
work as a censor that he even gave up his life at the end. Valenzuela wrote, Naturally, he censored
[his letter] without regret. And just as naturally, he couldn t stop them from executing him the
following morning, another victim of his devotion to his work. (Valenzuela, 413). In this quote,
his life symbolized health, thus evidently showing the damage to his health due to workaholism.
Workaholism is considered a health destroyer, which might as well turn out to be a life
threatening silent killer. Studies shows that long hours of work cause workers to be mentally
unhealthy. They become more and more stressed due to work and put themselves under a large
amount of pressure. The most petrifying part is that work stress can cause physical health
problems. Huffpost affirmed, A number of studies have shown the detrimental toll that work stress
in particular can take on your health, including depression and an increased risk of heart attack
and diabetes. (Huffpost, huffingtonpost.com). To avoid these health problems, managing a balance
between work and free time is vital. A workaholic often gets trapped in a bad life cycle. In The
Censors , Juan gets home really late due to long hours of work, and he has no time to ensure his
life quality.

There are different types of budgeting that businesses typically use and those include Operating budgets, Capital Budgets and there are many subtypes that exist because a budget can also be created for special events, the recruitment and retention of new staff, and to manage the advertising expenses and return on investments for a business (Demand Media, 1999 2012). According to Demand Media (1999 2012), An operating budget outlines the total operating expenses and income for the organization, typically for the period of a fiscal year. Capital budgets evaluate the investments and assets of the business, and a cash budget shows the predicted cash flow in and out of the business over a period of time (para.2 ). According to the Cost Benefit Analysis (2012), Capital budgeting has at its core the tool of cost benefit analysis; it merely extends the basic form into a multi period analysis, with consideration of the time value of money. In this context, a new product, venture, or investment is evaluated on a start to finish basis, with care taken to capture all the impacts on the company, both cost and benefits. When these inputs and outputs are quantified by year, they can then be discounted to present value to determine the net present value of the opportunity at the time of the decision ( Cost Benefit Analysis, 2012). The mechanized type handling system, is a combination through labor and equipment handling that utilizes the help from facilities processing, receiving, and shipping. Although a high percentage of overall cost is associated with this type of labor system. Also, with having to use a high amount of human labor workers, there is more use of forklifts and carousels. Where when using an automated system, there would be a cut in labor costs due to the use of automated equipment that can accomplish the job that man power is being used to accomplish. A lot of these costs can be pretty expensive up front, but in the long run they end up paying themselves off. When a mix of both are used though, it s called semi automated. Which can in turn help increase efficiency. But at the same time, using completely automated systems can help reduce in any forms of error in sorting processes. Within semi automated systems, there is the final form of information directed handling. This system uses information technology to help direct mechanized or any automated equipment. 2.Explain the roles and differences between consumer and industrial focused packaging. • 6. Analysis Of Saturday Climbing By W. D Valgardson Teen ager would argue that to be independant is to be free. Although parents would say their child s desire for independence is strenuous like an uphill climb. This is confirmed in W.D. Valgardson s short story Saturday Climbing where Barry struggles to climb a deceiving rock face which is analogous to his relationship with his daughter. Not only if Moira will go to college in the upcoming year but also which campus she will attend.Through this narrative, Valgardson suggests that when parents provide copious amounts of security, conflict will arise and children will rebel; only when a balance is found between security and allowing independence will the relationship be harmonious. When Moira is young Barry is able to provide full security for her because she is fully dependant on him. Barry recalls how the climbing was easy; there were large handholds, so that at first climbing was little more difficult than walking up stairs (p. 52). Both Barry and Moira are comfortable with the amount of security and any conflicts are easily solved. Barry can readily protect Moira from any possible dangers. Even as Moira becomes an adult Barry nostalgically sees her as a little girl, intricately constructed of fragile paper (p. 56). Therefore he must protect her from anything that might damage her. Barry would like Moira to always follow him so he can keep life simple and uncomplicated (p. 53) by setting any necessary protection for her. However, because Moira is so sheltered and suffocated by her father, as she grows older she is quick to separate herself and become independent. Providing security becomes increasing difficult for Barry just as the incline on the cliff becomes more challenging; unexpectedly, the surfaces smoothed; the places where he could get a secure hold were spread farther and farther apart. At the same time, the numerous cracks swindled until there was no place to set any protection (p. 52). Moreover Barry and Moira s relationship beings to impede, activities like chess where they could connect becomes obsolete. Moira often comes home late smelling of marijuana and when asked if anything is bothering her Barry is answered with a cold contained Nothing (p.53). Every attempt Bary has to ... The movie The Great Gatsby better expresses the romantic relationships and connections between characters. Between Tom and Daisy, whose relationship may have more to do with survival than love, with Myrtle and Tom, the bridge between them connecting two souls searching for something more in life. And then there are bridges like the one between Jordan and Nick, filled with lies and a bridge not often travelled, and if you re lucky you come across a bridge like Gatsby and Daisy s, which is made of love but filled with obstacles. These bridges play a key part in the story and the movie most definitely does a better job at expressing these connections between characters. Tom and Daisy have a very complicated relationship and the movie better demonstrates their complex relationship than the book. The film shows all the small gestures they share, and the novel gives the impression Daisy somewhat resented Tom after Gatsby s death, and the movie also humanizes Tom on a higher level than the book. Unlike tense that is semantically rather related to the event in time, aspect is about time moving through the event (Riemer 314). The difference between, for example, I walked and I was walking is in our view of the two events, the first as an event that happened in a certain point in the past while the second viewed with an emphasis on the temporal sense of the event over which it happened. Distinctions can be made between perfective and imperfective aspect. The marking of the two and appearance is different among languages. Have them open wide and fastened properly (40). This shows that the Captain has become more confident and his feelings of inadequacy has vanished. He no longer feels insecure about himself or ordering of his crewmen. He also orders the men to move the ship closer to the island, giving Leggatt a chance to escape and survive. The Chief Mate responds by saying, Do you mean, sir, in the dark amongst the lot of all them islands and reefs and shoals? (45). Instead of hesitating or doubting, the Captain responds calmly, saying that they must go to find the land breezes. This shows the Captain s confidence in himself and his judgement. Although the crew is afraid, the Captain fearlessly leads the ship to the island. This is the first time that the Captain has taken full control of the ship without second guessing himself or worrying about what the crewmen will think of him. Is Mayella Ewell Powerful Or Powerful Analysis Is Mayella ewell powerful? That is the question that is asked and must be answered.Throughout the story To kill a mockingbird Mayella shows some glimpses of power but not enough to say she is powerful. For example in the beginning she shows that she can not even control her home life so how can she be powerful. Also she shows that she is just too poor for her to have power. Now in the next three paragraphs I will explain my thinking on why I believe Mayella is not powerful. In the first paragraph I will explain why and how I believe Mayella Ewell is not powerful, with the use of class.First off I would like to show you one of my biggest reasons for believing Mayella is not powerful Maycombs Ewells lived behind the town garbage dump in what used to be a negro cabin .(DBQ:Is mayella Ewell powerful?13)The second reason I believe Mayella Ewell is not powerful while using class for my examples is that longs as he keeps on callin me ma am and sayin miss Mayella.I don t hafta take his sass, I ain t called upon to take it (DBQ: Is Mayella Ewell powerful?.17). The intelligence trap, founded in Edward de Bono s book, de Bono s Thinking Course. The intelligence trap is when an opinion is formed initially and then due to higher intelligence or practice in debating, is naturally able to defend the opinion, even against scrutiny. This cause a trap where there no need to seek out other opinions, results, or contradiction due to others inability to successfully challenge the opinion. My father loved to debate when I was an adolescent, and I emulated this at a young age. Unfortunately, he was more interested in winning rather than making a cohesive argument. At the end of every argument or disagreement, he had to be the victor. Eventually, I was able to hold my opinions against him. But this is how I devolve into this trap, I learned how to defend my already formed position, but not necessarily taking the time to flush out the details, or seek alternatives. I was taught and eventually saw it as a weakness to dawn a new opinion in the middle of the moment. I developed my method of defending myself over time growing after every confrontation. • 23. The Bottom Line By Anne Lamott The bottom line is that I like my first drafts to be blind, unconscious, messy efforts; that is what gets me the best material (Egan). Egan says that when writing, she just lets her words flow regardless of how it may turn out, if it sounds bad, or whether it contains multiple mistakes or grammatical errors. For Egan, getting the work done is all that matters first. Once she gets the first draft done, then she worries about critiques. The same attitude that Egan portrays in her quote is similar to the attitude that Anne Lamott holds in her article Shifty First Drafts. Anne Lamott explicates that like all writers, she also finds it a challenge at times to generate her first writing drafts. In her article she looks to show her audience writers that it s okay to strugglewith first drafts because very few writers really know what they are doing until they ve don t it . Overall, Lamott just wants writers to know that almost all good writing begins with terrible first efforts , so regardless of the horrible results that may surface from the first draft, writers just need to focus on just getting any and all ideas down on paper. Connecting with her audience, Lamott uses heartfelt personal examples and experiences alongside ethos; which aids her in offering advice via everyday word choice that is placed in a sequential order. Throughout her work, Lamott utilizes everyday diction. She uses words such as we and you. By using the words we and you Lamott makes her article ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. A Brief Note On Karl Marx And The Capitalist System 1.According to Karl Marx, the proletariats are the people who are most exploited by the capitalist system. They are the workers that work for the boss that owns the means of production (194). The employers own the means of production and therefore make the rules. Leaving room for exploitation. It is the working class that makes up the proletariatfaction of society. The working class makes up about 30 percent of the total population and includes individuals that, in part, work as electricians, unskilled factory and construction workers, and retail workers (194). Individuals of the working class are also affected by what Karl Marx refers to as Work Alienation. Work Alienation is an outcome job holders face when they lose control over either the work process, the product of their labor, or both (194). Generally, this means a lack of satisfaction in their jobs and what they do. Work Alienation occurs when only simple mundane tasks are required of workers. A good example of this is factory jobs. With the rise of technology, less and less work is being required of workers and machinery is taking on most of the responsibility. Often leaving workers to only do simple tasks or preform button pushing work. Marx described this phenomenon as man becoming an appendage of the machine (194). 2.The working class has a very unique set of cultural, human and social capital. The age in which we live in is experiencing all of these aspects to one degree or another. It is difficult for someone my age to understand that we are living in a musicrevolution the likes of which has never been seen before. From what I have learned in the History of American Pop music class it seems that the venues which music has been made in will remain consistent for many years then drastically change. The first music industry we have learned of consisted of composers who would write music for the performers who would perform them with the possibility that someone in the audience could go to the music shop and purchase the sheet music with the intention to play it themselves. This aspect influenced the higher classes more than the lower classes since you would have to have money to see the concert, buy the music, and own an instrument to play it on. At that time there was no major companies who consistently put out music for the purpose of being consumed. The first time we can see this concept being readily applied would be in Tin Pan Alley. I have really enjoyed getting to see all different experiences out there and a variety of perspectives on what one has done or not when in that situation. The transformational process in any company is hard and can be very challenging during a time like this. I believe that changeis challenging just from my experiences and that it can take more time than one thinks or wants it to. I personally am not a fan of change, so when there is a change going on in my personal or professional life I hope it is quick and easy (which it is rarely ever). I have learned though change is good. As much as I may hate it, it is necessary and it cannot be avoided. I learned these past weeks and have seen examples where some individuals in a company will resist change, even leaders, and that is where I find the OB tools to help and make the change as easy as possible for everyone in the company. I know this is something I will do to assist the transformational process in organizational models in my future company. I will use the strategies we have learned in this course to help and be more effective. One concept in this course I have learned and it has stuck with me is focusing on employees. For example, plants and other photo synthesizers need only energy from sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, and water from the soil to make the sugar glucose. Photosynthesisis the most important chemical process on earth because it provides food for virtually all organisms, not only for photo synthesizers but for the organisms that eat them. This food may be converted back to water and carbon dioxide, releasing the stored energy through a process called respiration. This energy is required for growth in nearly all organisms. Simple sugars are also converted to other sugars and starches (carbohydrates) which may be transported to the stems and roots for use or storage, or they may be used as building blocks for more complex structures, e.g. oils, pigments, proteins, cell walls, etc. Photosynthesis is dependent on the availability of light. In other words, as sunlight increases in intensity photosynthesis increases. This results in greater food production. Many garden crops, such as tomatoes, respond best to maximum sunlight. Tomato production is cut drastically as light intensities drop. Only two or three varieties of greenhouse tomatoes will produce any fruit when sunlight is minimal in fall and spring. The Incans throughout the time of Spanish colonial rule had hopes for the renewal of their age old empire. However despite at least 100 revolts against colonialism the empire was never revived. (Strong 41) It was not until the 1920 s that the Incan rebellion would make any significant progression excluding the pride they may have taken in brutal revenge and retaliation murders and massacres against Spaniards. In this decade Peru witnesses the first shift from predominantly unorganized revolution to serious political development. Although the movement known as Alianza Popular Revolucionaria Americana (APRA) was crushed under the Leguia regime, the faction was the first political party to legally call for reform in regard to the condition of the highland populations or peasantry. • 42. The Sea s Ability Of An Intertidal Rock Platform Introduction The sea s ability to produce an intertidal rock platform was first commented on as early as 1846 by Ramsey, and then decisively classified into four themes by Trenhaile (1980), which is still relevant to scientist studying the formations today. The four themes are: 1) the role of marine and subaerial processes in platform development; 2) morphology of shore platforms; 3) modelling platform development; and 4) measuring rates of erosion (Stevenson 1, 2000). Research has commonly assumed that the origins of the shore platform are wave cut, however in recent years there has been research into a wider range of platforms and process leading to more theories. Defining and Distinguishing between Shore Platforms In order attempt to distinguish between different types of shore platforms, the most basic form of description is those, which slope seaward, and then those with a distinctive seaward edge characterised by a cliff (Stephenson et al., 2013). Sunamura has helped characterize those cliffs with the use of calling the slope edge a Type A Platform and a Cliff edge and a Type B Platform, this is represented in Figure 1. Fig. 1. A visual representations of shore platform categories as described by Sunamura (1992) in Kennedy (2015). Morphological Approaches It is a contentious issue amongst researchers as to whether weathering or wave erosion have a bigger role in the development of a shore platform. Bartrum, 1935; Hills, 1972) both regard wave erosion as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In The Censors , Juan was so loyal to his work as a censor that he even gave up his life at the end. Valenzuela wrote, Naturally, he censored [his letter] without regret. And just as naturally, he couldn t stop them from executing him the following morning, another victim of his devotion to his work. (Valenzuela, 413). In this quote, his life symbolized health, thus evidently showing the damage to his health due to workaholism. Workaholism is considered a health destroyer, which might as well turn out to be a life threatening silent killer. Studies shows that long hours of work cause workers to be mentally unhealthy. Huffpost affirmed, A number of studies have shown the detrimental toll that work stress in particular can take on your health, including depression and an increased risk of heart attack and diabetes. (Huffpost, huffingtonpost.com). To avoid these health problems, managing a balance between work and free time is vital. A workaholic often gets trapped in a bad life cycle.
