Rhetorical Analysis Of Fitness Advertisements
The rhetorical imagery that is used to portray a man s body is spread throughout the fitness industry
and health advertisements. These images are on the cover of well known magazines such as
FITNESSRX , distribute worldwide targeting men, ages 18 30. These magazines give a visual rhetoric
as a method of persuading beauty, body image, and the pursuit of perfection . These companies target
young adults because they believe they have the money to buy their products to obtain the body they
want or the body portrayed on the cover of the magazine. The advertisement inside the FITNESSRX ,
is advertising Hydroxycut, a product by MUSCLETECH. Hydroxycut is a dietary supplement that
contains caffeine and plant extracts. The company states that it gives you extreme energy to improve
performance in the gym with their so called cutting edge formula. This advertisement states that the
product is not only for people who are overweight but for people that want the extra edge on getting
cut like a pro bodybuilder. In the corner of the ad there is an article stating that studies show in 60
days you ll lose 10.95 pounds, this message gives off the impression that if you take the pills you will
lose that much weight, they didn t mention that you also have to diet and work hard. MUSCLETECH
makes this product sound as if it s the magic pill ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethos is an appeal to ethics by convincing someone of their credibility and authority. The company
used ethos by having a pro bodybuilder represent their brand to make it seem that he obtained his
physique by using Hydroxycut. If they had someone with a mediocre physique it would take away
credibility of the product and not catch anyone s attention because consumers are not wanting to look
average. The fallacy surrounding the advertisement is Tu Quoque, the consumer can see that someone
else obtained the physique using the product then so can they if they buy

Why I Believe In The Pickle Theory
I believe in the pickle theory. You may think I am going to talk about how the pickling process relates
to some other far off ideal, or how the number of seeds vary in every pickle and each represents
something else. But you d be wrong. My pickle theory has to do with tradition. Every christmas my
dad hides a pickle, a pepper, and a pea pod ornament. My two sisters and I then all go searching for
one of these three things. Whoever finds the pickle gets first pick, pepper gets second, pea pod third.
My dad then holds out three envelopes to choose from. Each envelope contains a different amount of
money, ranging from smaller to larger amounts. The catch is, you don t know which envelope has
which amount of money. This is where the pickle theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second lesson I have learned from the pickle theory is that it winning isn t everything. Now this
may sound exactly like the first one, but I promise this is different. The thing with winning in this
sense is that you may get first place, but that doesn t necessarily mean you get first prize. Often times
when you win something you end up with a hollow victory, or a feeling that even though you won,
you some how lost. Although that is a much deeper subject in the same realm of my own, it still kind
of describes the feeling when you realized to lost. Big time. The things I have learned simply from a
pickle amaze me. I have changed the way I act in everyday life and I have changed the way I react in
situations. For example. If I were playing a game of monopoly, I wouldn t worry about rolling the
biggest number first. This is because getting the first move in the game has no advantage to how the
out come of the game will turn out. That person may lose first, win first, or they may end up stuck in
jail for most on the game. Instead, I would pay attention to what is going on ahead of me. My choices
will decide my fate in the game, and all you can do is pay attention to what is happening and do
whatever you think is best. Now that I think about it, the pickle theory creates an existential sort of
belief. It is not the luck of finding the pickle and choosing first, it s your

A Twist on Homer s Odyssey
Dear Alexandra, O my lady, I miss so you. I know it has been years since I have seen you last, but I
want you to know that my travels with the heroic Odysseus has gone terrible. I have done horrific
things that I hope you can forgive. Everything was fine until our sail home from Troy, where we all
acted like reckless fools and all hell broke loose. We have been cursed by the gods Zeus and Poseidon
and now I m afraid that this letter will be my last. On our way home to Ithaca, the winds blew us to the
land of Ismarus. I was stored on wine, drunk, so drunk I can only remember the evil have done.
Picking fights with the Cicones, raping innocent women, killing innocent men. I try to tell myself I
was young, it wasn t my fault and it was the vicious vine that made me do all those horrible things,
but, deep down I knew what I had done was horrendous and ungodly as well as unforgivable. If only I
had listen to wise Odysseus call. I believe it was Back, and quickly! Out to sea again. But none of us
warriors dared to listen. All we want to do is party and raid this poor city. As a result the god Zeus
cursed us, our evil days punishing of group with the great lost of men. We fought out of pure anger
fighting a battle that had not been need. That s when things went good to bad. After losing dozen of
men in the battle on Ismarus, we stopped out to a land of the Cyclops after the Poseidon broke up our
ship. The warriors left were Odysseus, his second in command Eurylochus, my close

Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine History
Prince William Forest Park YM Sgt. John Williams Date Established: November 14 1936 Location:
Prince William County, Virginia Landmarks: Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine, One day a Baltimore man
named John Detrick was hiking along Quantico Creek during which near the meeting of the North and
South Forks, he noticed something gleaming in the water. It was Pyrite, known commonly as fool s
gold and Iron Sulfide. One of the great ironies of this area was that Pyrite would prove more profitable
than the real gold found in the Greenwood Gold Mine. The Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine began
operations in 1889. The large number of patents in the mid nineteenth century and industrial growth
after the Civil War made pyrite profitable. Sulfur was a necessary ingredient in several household
products such as soap, textiles, paper, and fertilizer. When World War I began, the Cabin Branch
Pyrite Mine contributed to the production of gunpowder. After World War I, the price of pyrite
dropped. Nationwide, in many industries, workers struck. While there is no evidence of union activity,
workers at the Cabin Branch Mine started to strike in 1920. They demanded a 50 cent raise. By this
time, cheaper sources of sulfur were found overseas. The mine closed later that year Greenwood Gold
mine, The Greenwood gold mine operated near the town of Independent Hill for a ... Show more

By the late eighteenth century, the states had different ways to help the poor. In colonial Virginia,
charity was left to the Anglican Church, then recognized as the official church of the state. This status
ended in 1785 with Virginia s Statute for Religious Freedom. The commonwealth s government
insisted that counties make a centralized place to care for the poor, rather than providing door to door
relief. The government appointed Overseers of the Poor, who in turn collected a Poor Tax. This was

♣ We have and will continue to source all the same planes from our current supplier, Boeing. We will
enter an ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) lease with Boeing, in which they will
provide flight deck, cabin attendants and maintenance crews, salaries included, as well as the
responsibility of maintenance and insurances for the planes. This will significantly reduce the cost of
training and maintenance.
♣ We will use the Boeing 737 MAX. These aircrafts are to be launched in 2017. They are expected to
have the lowest operating unit costs in the single aisle segment with the capability of reducing fuel
burn and carbon dioxide emissions by an additional 13%. (ago, et al., Market Realist , 2016)
♣ To maintain low fuel costs, we will be partnering with Petroecuador, the fuel supplier in the
neighboring country of Ecuador. Ecuador s fuel costs are among the top ten lowest fuel costs
internationally.

Income Distribution and Economic Growth in LDC s Essay
Income Distribution and Economic Growth in LDC s
INTRODUCTION
In recent years, one of the major concerns of economic development is the study of poverty, the
income distribution and growth in the less developed countries (LDC s) or Third World countries.
Economists from all over the world have been doing researches and studies on how to induce a growth
in those underdeveloped countries. However, countries differentiate in historical backgrounds, cultural
believes and natural resources. As a result, the government would implement different strategies to
attain a much fairer distribution of income among the society. The relationship between the income
distribution and growth in the LDC s is a significant factor that would affect ... Show more content on

The major concern of the policies would be the approach to provide human basic needs (HBN) for
each and every one of the people in the country. In nearly all of the LDC s, majority of the people are
living under absolute poverty. This means that they are not able to provide a standard level of living
for themselves. Different policies to improve the income inequality and also procure an economic
growth include land reform, redistribution of saving and investment, education for all, progressive
taxation, public expenditures from tax revenues and birth control.
Some people think that there existed a trade off between growth and equity. They think that
distributing income too equally would undermine incentives and thus lower everyone s income. They
believed that the rich needed special encouragement to save and invest more in order to cause a
growth in the economy. Recent evidence suggests that this conventional wisdom is wrong. Many
economies in Asia Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Taiwan
(province of China) and Thailand have had both rapid growth and relatively low inequality. Between
1960 and 1993 the East Asian economies,

Buddha vs Jesus
Christianity and Buddhism are two very prominent religions dating back from early years up until
today. Both are offshoots of other religions Christianity from Judaism, and Buddhism from Hinduism.
The Buddhists follow the teachings of Gautama Buddha, while Christianity is centered upon the life
and teachings of Jesus Christ. Christianity is monotheistic while Buddhism is nontheistic. Christians
believe that Christ is the son of God, while Buddhists do not believe in God as the creator of the
universe.
Buddhism dates back to Nepal, India in the 5th century BCE. The early followers of Buddhism were a
community of monks called the sangha. The literal meaning of Buddhism is those who follow the
teachings of Buddha. The teachings of the Buddha are often referred to as the dharma , which also
means cosmic law and order.
The ethical guidelines of Buddhism are not to murder, lie, steal, drink, or participate in unlawful
sexual behavior. Buddhists believe in the Four Noble Truths: 1) human life is full of suffering; 2)
suffering stems from cravings for pleasure and avoidance of pain; 3) suffering can be eradicated; 4)
the path of freedom from suffering is the path of enlightenment. (Julia Hardy) They also follow the
Noble Eightfold Path in order to achieve the end of suffering. The Eightfold Path consists of: 1)
Samma Ditthi Right view or understanding, 2) Samma Sankappa Right thought or attitude, 3) Samma
Vaca Right speech, 4) Samma Kammanta Right Action, 5)

The Pros And Cons Of Utilitarianism
Many societies seem to be teetering in prosperity, which causes anxiety about future for many
individuals. Some call for a society to run on the principle of utility, others call for individual freedom
to be the prime drive to a society, while others call for the collective participation of all the members
of a society to promote its just existence. A good, functional society must do more than the ideas
promoted by utilitarianism and liberalism, it must cultivate good citizens through the process of
involvement in the community and debate on moral issues.
The two ideas which fall short in their ability to form a just society are utilitarianism and freedom
based theories. In utilitarianism, the main goal is the maximization of happiness for ... Show more

In the beginning of America, close communities were founded in which everyone either could or had
to participate. Present America holds many individuals which, by one way or another, have passed the
civic duties of a citizen and involvement in the politics of their society on to the governing body over
them. The American dream includes a personal collection of material goods and comforts instead of
good citizen characteristics. Social media involves little deep conversations and is instead comprised
of superficial, quick communications. With bonds no longer being available in a public way, the
pursuit of personal success and the pursuit of fulfillment of feeling only allow for private connections
at most. Bellah warns, the culture of separation, if it ever became completely dominant, would
collapse of its own incoherence (281). Bellah encourages religion as a source of connection in a
community where individuals are encouraged to give back to their communities instead of focusing on
themselves. What Bellah describes that truly destroys a society is not wars, it is inactivity: we have put
our own good, as individuals, as groups, as a nation, ahead of the common good (285). A test is put on
society observing the way in which they handle wealth and poverty extremes which cannot exist in a
just society. Giving up our individualism does not mean our

Solving Economies Of Scale And Scope
I. Short Answer (No more than one paragraph) 1. Define economies of scale, and provide an example
of a telecommunications product or services that is currently thought to exhibit this economic
characteristic. Repeat for economies of scope.  Economies of Scale is a phenomenon which can be
described as diminishing cost per unit as a result of increased output.  Economies of scope can be
described as a phenomenon where a single provider produces multiple goods or services and earns
returns from different markets simultaneously out of which some may be regulated and some may be
unregulated.  An example to explain economies of scale and scope can be Cisco products. Cisco
offers Cloud services, phones as well as produces network devices and offers support for all its
products. This is an example of Economies of scope.  An example of Economies of scale can be the
cloud services where cisco lays down the network and data centers which comprise of major
investment in infrastructure and more the number of consumers for the cloud, lesser is the cost per
unit storage. II. Medium Answer (1 2 paragraphs) 1. Suppose a rate of return regulated local telephone
company provides IP Voice Trunking as a regulated service in competition to Level 3 and TW
Telecom. Explain how this telephone company, who is not experiencing much competition in its
market for local telephony, might want to allocate the costs for this service, and the economic
rationale for its approach. Characteristics of

Characterization Of Macbeth
But with this answer comes another question: why would Shakespeare name the main character
Macbeth when his monarchs were Elizabeth I and James I? What message was he trying to send by
using the name of Macbeth, the king of Scotland in 1040? In Jonathan Goldberg s essay Speculations:
Macbeth and source in Jean E Howard s anthology on Shakespeare, Goldberg explains how the King
Duncan in the play is a reflection of the real life Duncan I from Scotland in the 1030s when Scotland
was going through distressing times. He suggests that real life King Duncan is represented in a way
that makes him seem weak through the character King Duncan. Goldberg perceives Duncan s death as

There were two conspiracies against him during his ascension to the English throne in 1603, the Bye
Plot and Main Plot, and in 1605, there was the aforementioned Gunpowder Plot. Shakespeare wrote
Macbeth with dark themes to reflect on James reign as he was experiencing it. By relating the tone of
the history of 11th century Scotland to the tone of 17th century England, Shakespeare is better able to
imply his warning to James I that he might be killed because of how weak he was as a monarch. To
further increase the significance of his warning, Shakespeare s writing style also changes during James
reign compared to Elizabeth s reign. While Shakespeare was creating more romantic and positive
tragedies and comedies during the Elizabethan era(such as A Midsummer Night s Dream and Romeo
and Juliet), during the early 17th century, the Jacobean era, Shakespeare began writing darker
tragedies such as Hamlet, Othello, and Macbeth. Shakespeare s writing in the Jacobean era were more
about how persuasive corruption can ruin a hero and create a fatal flaw. One way a new historicist
might look at this insight is to go back to James I. In the article The Historical Context of Macbeth
from Gale, One of King James greatest passions was the study of witchcraft and in 1597, he wrote
Daemonologie, a book on witchcraft. James I was pulled in by the corruption of witchcraft in this
context and that would

Here is a great example of how the internet has helped in price and product comparison: a consumer
buying a car may not be informed fully about the safety features of various models or may not have
adequate information to evaluate the importance or usefulness of various options (e.g., antilock
brakes, four wheel drive, side cross beams to reduce the damage from a side collision). The
information asymmetry about those models or features is common and may allow an aggressive sales
person to exploit the buyer s ignorance (Englander Moy, 2003).
Another major utility of the internet is the ability to keep people connected. The internet allows
friends and family to pay a low monthly price for e mail, instant message and the ability to speak
through a person s computer. People can actually dial out to another computer and hold a conversation
just as if they were on the phone.
Describe what has occurred to change the demand for, or the supply of, the good or service, and
market prices of those products or services There is not a market, industry, good or service that has not
been affected by the internet. Pertaining to demand the internet has changed demand in many ways,
mainly due to making a lot of information available to the consumer that did not use to be. The
internet offers more selections and more information on the products so the

The Pros And Cons Of Racial Profiling
What is racial profiling? Racial Profiling refers to the discriminatory practice by law enforcement
officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual s race, ethnicity,
religion or national origin (American Civil Liberties Union). There are certain races that face racial
profiling from law enforcement officials driving or in other important locations. Black races face
racial profiling especially when driving; law enforcement officials target black driver for minor traffic
violations. Spanish race might be racial profile while walking or driving to search for illegal drugs or
guns. Since the attacks of September 11 2001, the Arab race and South Asian race has faced many
racial profiling from law enforcement and even regular people for any terrorist attack that is taking
place or any immigrant violation.

chances that a black cop will stop more white drivers than any other race and that cop will be assumed
to be racial profiler. Numbers do not do any favor to cops and this might influence cops not to stop
cars because they do not want to be labeled as racial profilers. I have a white friend who is a

The Feminism Of Harriet Jacobs
Nehemiah Walls
Oct. 29, 2016
Eng.333
The Feminism of Harriet Jacobs Since the early annuls of history minority groups have always faced
opposition for the dominating forcing. As a counter rebuttal movements and uprisings usually
occurred in order to correct and promote better treatment within these oppressed groups. Feminism
served as a mechanism to promote equity amongst gender, sexual, ethnic, and even economic lines.
Notwithstanding, there still looms bigotry and oppression from the heavily dominated ideals of the
elite patriarchy. Harriet Jacobs s personal narrative, Incidents in the Life of Slave Girl unveils the
objectification, exploitation, and feminist perceptions of liberation from the reins of a heavily
dominated white patriarchal society during the 19th century through the experiences of the main
character Linda Brent. How did Jacobs reveal the hardships that slave women faced through the eyes
of Linda Brent? While captive black women faced constant sexual encroachments by their slave
holders, Richard Follett, author of the article, Lives of Living Death : The reproductive lives of slave
women in the cane world of Louisiana stated, despite the enormous burdens that enslavement imposed
on them...bondwomen challenged the misogynist assumptions that underpinned plantation practices
(Follett pg. 290). Notwithstanding Follett s proposal, Jacobs refute his claims of bondwomen
challenging the sexual advancements of their masters. Brent describes a situation

Essay on Sexual Harassment
In today s society we constantly hear or read about individuals that claim they were a victim of sexual
pressure. These instances can take place at work, school, the military and even at church. But exactly
what is sexual exploitation or unwanted sexual behavior? After looking at several definitions for
sexual abuse I came across the following definition that I feel will help all of us to better understand
what inappropriate sexual behavior is. Sexual harassment was defined by The Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission (EEOC) as unwelcome advances and requests for sexual behavior or
conditional requests such as a person s employment will continue if they perform these acts. (Gale
Group, 2003). This definition left me thinking and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Please also keep in mind that a harasser can be male or female and can be of the same sex as the
victim. The harasser may not always know that they are being offensive but if the other person is
uncomfortable and has stated this to them then he or she should stop before legal action is brought
forth.
Some women may even prefer not to report any allegations of being pressured sexually for fear of
what might happen to them if they do. Although it is not lawful to retaliate against an individual for
exposing employment practices that discriminate many people would seek retaliatory efforts.
Therefore there are many women who feel it may be better for them to suffer in silence than to deal
with revengeful or vindictive tactics such as being denied promotions or being scorned by other
women who may think that the victim is pressing charges for attention. Because of the nature of such
unprofessional behavior the victim may find him or herself very alone and no one wants to go through
that especially after suffering through the harassment itself.
Being sexually abused can have similar effects like rape in which the victim falls prey to depression,
shame and guilt. Being depressed can lead to anxiety problems, an increase or decrease in weight as
well as a lack of self confidence and self respect. They may experience the loss of trust in familiar
people and places. The victim can become withdrawn and if they are married the

Embryology of anorectal malformations
The hindgut develops into the distal third of the transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon,
rectum, and the upper part of the anal canal. The endoderm of the hindgut also forms the lining of the
bladder and urethra . The terminal part of the hindgut contributes to the posterior region of the cloaca,
the primitive anorectal canal; the allantois merges into the anterior portion, the primitive urogenital
sinus Figure 1(Sadler, 2011). The cloaca is a cavity lined by endoderm and ventrally covered by

World War 1 Foreign Policy Essay
Foreign policy, is government strategy of dealing with other countries. The United States had an open
door policy where free flow of trade, investment, information, and culture were key principles in
foreign relations. Later we started to become an intervening military, involved with other nation
affairs, and wanting to promote liberty and democracy. The United States wanted to remake the world
into the American image.
World War I was the first test of Wilson s belief that American power could make the world safe for
democracy . Before World War I, most of the interventions appropriated in the western hemisphere.
This became a time where the beliefs of imperialism, nationalism, and socialism were common
thoughts amongst Americans. However, once world spread about what is happening, in Europe,
Americans were split. British Americans defended England, German Americans sided with Germany,
and Irish Americans strongly opposed England. Others gave credence to, peace being essential to
enhance the efforts of social justice at home. War broke out in Europe, Wilson proclaimed the United
States to be a neutral party. But the American public opinion changed when the passenger ship
Lusitania sunk by German boats, 124 American s died. In reaction, Wilson tried to push a peace
without victory, ordering freedom of the seas, restrictions on armaments, and self determination for
nations great and small. Germany answered to this by resuming submarine warfare, they knew

Thesis About Appeasement
Appeasement is the policy of acceding to the demands of a potentially hostile nation in the hope of
maintaining peace. This is done by giving in to demands of a leader in order to satisfy their short term
goals and avoid conflict. It was a policy used by the leaders of France and Britain with Hitler in the
1930s because they hoped that if they showed understanding and gave Hitler what he asked for, there
would be no reason for fighting or war to break out. Some of the things followed for appeasement that
the Western Leaders did were, When Hitler reoccupied the Rhineland, France did nothing, France and
Britain did not oppose his rebuilding the German military. Britain, in fact, signed a treaty with

planning the invasion of Poland. After World War I, Poland s army was relatively weak and ill
equipped compared to Germany. To aid in its defense, Poland had formed military alliances with Great
Britain and France. Massing their armies along the Polish border, the Germans staged a fake Polish
attack on August 31, 1939. Using this as a pretext for war, German forces flooded across the border
the next day. On September 3, Great Britain and France issued a warning to Germany to end the
fighting. When no reply was received, both nations declared war. Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia and
Poland before World War 2 but then from 1939 and June 1941 the German army invaded and occupied
many countries like Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg,France, Denmark,Yugoslavia, Greece,
Norway and Western Poland. In Source C (The cartoon from October 1938 by Low) shows a picture
of Hitler as Santa popping every European country into his sack which means Germany over all and

Peanutty Co
The Peanutty Food Company
To start off Peanutty should first establish an integrated vision of their supply chain. This will give
them some kind of direction needed to progress. In order to ensure the supply of raw materials for its
operations, I think it s a great idea to try and gain more customers that will supply them with raw
materials. It states that some companies do send them some raw materials because they are also a
service provider. This includes the preparation of food items for large companies in the sector such as
fillings and marshmallows. These companies provide them with packaging and labels. Having more

They could have manager in charge of both of the peanut lines while another manager is in charg of

and someone should be in charge of exports. This will also allow for some responsibility to taken off
the shoulders of some managers. Taking this responsibility away will give them more time to discover
new opportunities to maximize profit and minimize risk.
When it comes to supplier management they should definitely use a performance measure to test our
efficiency of their suppliers. By evaluating supplier performance, Peanutty can hope to identify
suppliers with exceptional performance or developmental needs, improve supplier communication,
reduce risk and manage the partnership based on an analysis of reported data. They could use total

Philanthropic Acts a Compromise for Rights
In an era consisting of big industrialist, such as Andrew Carnegie, there were many differences of
opinions on the execution of capitalism between these industrialists and their workers. Andrew
Carnegie expressed his ideas and views in article, The Gospel of Wealth, in which he outlines the

Essay Sir Isaac Newton s Three Laws of Motion
We have all heard the story of the apple falling on Newton s head while he was sitting against the tree,
thus
giving him the sudden idea for the Universal Law of Gravity. This, as I am sure most of us know, is
not really
what happened. A more accurate version would probably be, Newton observed an apple falling from a
tree
and started contemplating the physics of the apple s fall. The acceleration experienced by the apple,
which
started at zero when hanging in the tree, then increased as the apple fell. This as Newton reasoned
from his
second law of motion, means there must be a force acting upon the apple in order to cause the
acceleration,
this force we will call gravity. Thus giving us the acceleration due to this force ... Show more content

From this we are able to tell that
if an object is either accelerating or decelerating than an external force must be acting on it even if it is
simply the force of gravity, air resistance, or friction.
Newton s 2nd Law
This is probably the most known of all three of Newton s Laws of motion.
* The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force
acting on it, while being inversely proportional to its mass.
More often though we see this law written as;
Fnet = ma
Where F equals the net force on the object in Newtons, m equals the mass in kilograms and
a equals the acceleration of the object in meters/second^2. Since force is a vector this can be
rewritten in three separate equations to take into account direction;
Fx = ma, Fy = ma, Fz = ma
Fnet = Fx + FY+ Fz
We must also remember that acceleration as well is a vector and therefor has three components just
like the force. When learning how to use Newton s 2nd Law, however, one usually only uses examples
where there is only two directional forces acting on an object. These are usually the x direction (side
to side) and the y direction (up and down). For now we are only going to take into account these two
components.
This law is very useful in the fact we can determine the acceleration of an object if we know the forces
acting on it as well as it s

The Role Of Astrology In Greek Mythology
Astronomy is defined as the study of non Earthly bodies and phenomena such as the sun, moon, stars,
and planets. Human behavior is defined as the range of physical and emotional behaviors that humans
engage in; biologically, socially, intellectually, etc. and are influenced by culture, attitudes, emotions,
values, ethics, authority, rapport, persuasion, coercion and/or genetics. When combined, the two topics
merge into a third one called astrology: the study of celestial entities and how they apply to the

The Death Penalty Should Be Legal
One of the most server way of punishment that we all know is the death penalty. This penalty has been
going around for years. To many people it might be the best way of punishing a person. On the other
hand there are people who think that if you kill a person you should be sentenced to die as well. For
me I would say it might not be the best way and it not working as many would like it. When choosing
if you are for the death penalty you have to okay with an insect person dyeing or even a family
member being in death row. I know that is something I would not be able to live with. Knowing that I
have the choose of killing someone because of their crime. The death penalty has been going on for
many years, though out the years it has changed the ways things have been getting done. According to
Death Penalty Information Center (CPIC) ( http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org ), the first established
death penalty laws date as far back as the Eighteenth Century B.C. Many kings would see the death
penalty the best way of punishing them for any type of crime. Death sentencing at that time carried out
by mean of crucifixion, drowning, beating to death, burning alive, and impalement. By the Tenth
Century A.D, hanging become the usual method of execution in Britain. Britain used the death penalty

Americans to use the death penalty more than other countries. The first recorded execution in the new

How Hercules Changed Over Time Essay
Hercules has adapted over time because the original myth of Hercules is so complicated that for
people to comprehend it, the story of Hercules needed to be simplified. There many changes to help
people understand the story of Hercules, but there are three main topics that have been changed to
help the younger and older audiences. These three main topics that support that Hercules original story
is too complicated is, the story of his immortality, the antagonist Hades, and the happily ever after.

Yes, actually a happy ending is portrayed in both the original myth and movie, but are very different.
In the original myth Hercules died as a result of a poison, and after having burned in the funeral pyre,
he obtained immortality (Greek Mythology). He may have died, but if he did not die he would not
have become an immortal. After becoming an immortal Hercules married a women named Hebe.
Hebe was actually the daughter of Hera, the women who tried to kill Hercules. Along with getting
married he had a child in Olympus where he started to live the life of an immortal. Though he did end
with becoming immortal and getting married this is probably not the ideal ending for Disney, because
instead Disney only used half of the original myth and even changed some of that. When I say they
used half of the myth I am referring to how Hercules ended up falling in love with Meg and lived
happily, but it was with actually with Hebe. The other half of the ending is when Hercules chose to be
with Meg instead of staying immortal, because due to his decision he became a mortal. When
Hercules decided to be a mortal he also chose love. I think that with including that Hercules chose
love over eternal life he gives a good message for everyone. My guess is that Disney decided that
having the message that when you lose one thing something another thing good will happen, for
instance how Hercules was a mortal, but he also got love which was his main

JFK ASSASINATION THEORY Essay

office with his new vice president Lyndon B. Johnson. This was a surprise at first, because he opposed
Kennedy as the Democratic Party s candidate. Kennedy was able to persuade Johnson to run with him
and they later proved to be a good team.
Johnson was not the only Democrat opposed to Kennedy. Frankly, many people disliked the President
because his views conflicted with the party s. He was characterized as a liberal by many, but the
reality was the JFK did what he thought was right. For example, he went against the liberals and failed
to take a strong stand against McCarthyism. He also took a strong stand for the civil rights of blacks in
the South and unemployment. This caused much strife between Kennedy and the Democrats.
John F. Kennedy was so popular probably because of the way he stood up for his beliefs. He was also
loved because he was the major factor in the Space race. In this point and time we were battling the
USSR for the lead. He guaranteed and came through with sending astronauts to the moon. This may
be insignificant as far as politics go, but it gave American citizens a sense of pride and patriotism.
John F. Kennedy was also a hero to our country because he got our country out of two serious

Snail Farming
CHAPTER 1 1.0 INTRODUCTION
Snail meat has been consumed by humans throughout the world since prehistoric times. It is high
protein (12 16%) and irons (45 50mg/kg), low in fat (0.05 0.8%) and contains almost all the amino
acids needed by humans. In addition to the nutritional value of snail meat, a recent study has shown
that the glandular substances from edible snails cause agglutination of certain bacteria; this could be of
value against a variety of ailments, including whooping cough.
In Nigeria, Ghana and Cote d ivoire, where snail meat is particularly popular, snails are gathered from

Wind accelerates moisture loss in snails. To prevent snails from drying therefore, snaileries should be

enough tree cover to reduce the impact of the wind, are usually the most suitable.

Soil is a major part of a snail s habitat and soil composition, water content and texture are important

is derived from the soil. Snails also derive most of their water requirement from the soil. They dig in

Criminology is an ever growing field, mainly because there is more and more research occurring and
new theories linking people and crime coming out everyday. Below the main field of criminology
there are many subfields that have different theories and philosophies on what they believe link
criminal behavior. Two of the main criminology perspectives are Classical Criminology and Positivist

Yet another criticism is their belief in deterrence. Research has shown that there is little correlation
between punishment and crime, meaning that there is not a significant amount of information showing
that deterrence actually works leading it into a controversial issue. People commit crimes for many
different reasons that classicalists fail to acknowledge. Classical criminology was the first big step into
what makes up the field of criminology today, dominating around the eighteenth century. A change in
the way information was assembled with the emergence of the scientific method challenged the
classical perspective and introduced the theory of Positivism. Positivist criminology emerged in the
nineteenth century after people stopped relying on pure thought and reason and started to observe and
analyze to understand the way things worked. Positive philosophy was an explicit repudiation or
reaction to the critical and negative philosophy of the Enlightenment [Classicalist] thinkers (Bohm
21). Positivism has two main elements: One is the belief that human behavior is a function of forces
beyond a person s control [and] the second aspect of positivism is embracing the scientific method to
solve problems (Siegel 7 8). . Positivism is known for the use of science and the scientific method in
their research. Positivists such as Lombroso, whom is considered the father of criminology, set the
stage for examination of external forces

Wet Rub Vs Grill
There are two traditional methods for seasoning meat destined for the grill: wet and dry. Choosing one
over the other places you on one side of yet another barbecue debate. As with most culinary debates,
both sides have some strong arguments as we will see when we compare these two methods of
flavoring meat. What is the difference between a dry rub and a wet rub? As you might expect, dry rubs
have only dry ingredients. They will typically include powdered spices and sometimes dry herbs along
with salt and sugar. The idea is to create a crust for the meat that will flavor it without making it too
moist. You should apply the rub liberally to the outside of the meat and massage it in. The longer you
let it sit on the surface of the meat, the more flavor it will impart to the meat. Because all of the spices
stay on the surface, a dry rub is a great way to add a controlled amount of flavor without
overpowering the natural flavor of the meat. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The big difference is that they are placed into a liquid medium like oil or vinegar. You want a wet rub
to be thin enough to easily coat a piece of meat but thick enough to stick to it. Like dry rubs, wet rubs
should be applied heavily to the surface of the meat. Is one easier or better to use when grilling? Dry
rubs are easier to apply and generally less messy to work with than wet rubs. In addition, a dry rub
will not drip onto your coals and cause flare ups or lower their temperature. Wet rubs have advantages
in that meat should be more tender and flavorful, especially if you let it sit in the marinade for at least

Evil And Innocence In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Evil is a word that is rooted in thoughts, and actions. The concept of evil is a convoluted force. In
Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, morals are reexamined through each tale. Chaucer discusses moral
evil and its relevance to innocence, specifically in the Pardoner s Tale, with the three rakes, and in the
Prioress Tale, with the young boy. The seducing of innocence to become dishonorable is evil. All
things wicked start from innocence. Innocence is beautiful. The three rakes and the young boy
illustrate the most simplest form of innocence which reserves the revelation of evil. In the Pardoner s
Tale, the three rakes insist on discovering who smote the man s heart in two (Chaucer 355). The
murder, Death is dangerous and the rakes courageously took this opportunity to help themselves and
others from the danger. This demonstrates the rakes ability to want to improve other people s lives
while also showcasing the righteousness they contain. The murderer, Death, shall be slain and the
three men pledged their word of honor to live and die for the other,/ as though each were the other s
brother born (357). Chaucer demonstrates the virtue these men have for themselves and for each other.
Although, they drink too much they still embody supportive and honorable friends. The hope that
death shall be dead, if they catch him (357) depicts the beauty in their hopes and innocence. The
beauty of the widow s son, seven years of age, in the Prioress Tale, paints the unknown virtue during
the walk to and from school. The mother has always teaches her son to worship our blissful Lady,/
Christ s dear Mother, and he did not forget it (373). Chaucer proves that innocent children will always
learn quickly (373). The young child studies his book and he heard the Alma redemptoris being sung.
The young child innocent and interested, listened to the words and notes/ until he knew the first verse
all by heart (373). However, the innocent boy does not at all what this Latin meant,/since he was of so
young and tender an age (375). Chaucer makes known that this young boy is intelligent and innocent
as he listens to his mother and is curious for his age. The innocence in the rakes and the young boy is
beautiful and tender,

Causes Of Colonialism In Canada
When looking at Canada as a whole, we often tend to overlook the past events of Indigenous groups
who have suffered through Colonialism. As I read about this issue, I felt sympathy for the Indigenous
peoples, as it was overwhelming for me to find out that this much discrimination has occurred in a
nation as diverse and developed as Canada. Reading more about colonization helped me to make
connections between the issues and topics I have learned about in class, and how they can be traced
back to European contact with the Indigenous peoples. The Colonial powers in Canada rested in the
hands of the British and the French, who declared sovereignty over the territories which rightfully
belonged to the Indigenous peoples (Cochrane et al. 70). The worst effect of colonialism is the
exploitation, domination, and subjugation of the people by the imperial power (Cochrane et al. 71).
Due to the fact that their rights were determined solely by the white society s rules, one of the only
governance options left for Indigenous peoples was to become independent of the Canadian state
(Cochrane et al. 87). The Royal Proclamation Act of 1763 guaranteed the protection of lands for
Indians under the Crown, and required any colonists occupying Indian lands without the permission of
the crown to evacuate; however, these rights to Indians have been much ignored (Cochrane et al. 70).
During post confederation, several treaties numbered 1 11 were created to allow aboriginals to claim

Microfinance And Small Scale Business
Introduction
Microfinance are the financial institutions who provide loans or funds to individuals who do not
possess the actual documents which can be submitted to banks to seek/borrow loans. These
individuals can be entrepreneurs and small scale business owners. Microfinance institutions mostly
function in developing countries when compared to developed countries. They are almost similar to
banks with regards to the nature of functioning, for instance, they fund people who would like to start
a poultry business (farmers), transportation and restaurants.
The functions as mentioned earlier are similar to the banking institutions, however, the range of
transactions are in small scale. The transactions mostly happen with few hundreds of dollars. The
money borrowed are often used to buy the tools and necessary items to start with construction in case
of a new small business or for reconstruction in case of an established trader. The main purpose of
these small entrepreneurs is to support their families and the run their business to get themselves out
of poverty. Microfinance institutions lends loan on short term basis where the borrower is expected to
pay their loan within 6 months to 1 year. Hence these institutions do not require much documents prior

The Fitbit s Behavior
The participant began the project by collecting baseline data using ABC data, frequency data, and
thoughts and emotions in her though journal. She also wrote out possible obstacles that would deter
her form reaching the daily step count of 5000 steps. In addition, she also wrote out the possible short
term and long term positive and negative effects of change in relation to the target behaviour. These
were all recorded in the beginning of the journal, which the individual referenced throughout the
project on an as needed basis throughout the study, as well as in the initial phase of conducting the
study. It was determined during the assessment of baseline data, that the participant determined the
behavior occurred most frequently in the morning and evening during her commute of walking to
school. She further determined that little to no data was being collected in between these ... Show

The conclusion phase was conducted on the last day of the study, in order to analyze the data and
write the report; no data was taken this day. The main goal of the project was to increase physical
activity with a sub goal of achieving a daily step count of 5000 steps. Study data was collected
Monday Friday ending at 11:59pm each individual day. Overall, the study was successful in achieving
the sub goal of 5000 daily steps a day. The FitBit can be noted as a valuable success in this project.
The participant never dealt with any technological issues regarding the device, and found it to be
accurate in its calculations. This particular study could not have been possible without the use of such
technology to accurately collect the much needed data. The participant was subsequently successful in
achieving the step count, and further reduced her dependence on public transit, and as such increased

Compare And Contrast The Three Dramatic Mass Media...
Contrastingly, the three dramatic mass media presidential campaigns differed in the following ways.
Starting with the 1960 campaign, it was the first of its kind and so all that was broadcasted was not
advanced as compared to the debates that succeeded. The 1960 Kennedy/Nixon debate was
broadcasted live from a television studio unlike other debates that followed (Webley, 2010). Else too;
the images were not clear they lacked quality definition due the fact that the technology used then was
not so advanced like that of the years that succeeded ( History, n.d ). Fifteen years later another
presidential campaign happened. This was in 1992 when Bush, Clinton and Perot were contesting for
presidency. This time the campaigns took a very

Semiotics In That 70s Show
Introduction Semiotics can be defined as the study of symbols and signs particularly with regard to
how they are used to create meaning and communicate it to others. Semiotics also offers tools that
make it possible to uncover the cultural conventions and codes that highlight the period to which a
setting was placed and interpret meanings behind the symbols (Berger, 2014). In the pilot episode of
That 70s Show , it is possible to apply semiotic analysis since there are various signs and symbols that
reveal different elements of the show. Different signifiers in the episode and what they portray helps
the audience to interpret the message that the producer is trying to convey. That 70s Show has a large
presence of signs, signifiers, codes and ideologies that relate to teenage relationships and their lives in
general during the 1970s. Additionally, it is important to highlight character placement and the
semiotics involved pertaining to the viewers.
Parents son relationship The character Eric and his father form an important conflict in the storyline.

Korean War despite the fact that he fought in it and he has a difficult time adapting to the changing
times. Most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the producer does not make this evident, there are several signs that highlight this point. For
one, there is one teenager who would be holding a stick of incense and behind them the audience can
see smoke clouds behind this group. This normally signifies the use of drugs and in particular
marijuana. It is also evident from the teenagers reactions that they are under the influence of
marijuana. They laugh uncontrollably and their statements do not seem to make sense. The camera
also pans from one individual to the other to symbolize the passing of the

The Importance Of Return To The Army
Before you get in you must know your mission or you would be lost and stranded in this anarchy place
filled with chaos, destruction, and food. As soon as you get inside you must survey your surroundings
for the assassinators and agitators that will try and stop you from fulfilling you mission, but before
you get there you must put up your defence against the deadly ones that push you right out of their
way onto the ghastly unsanitized ground. Where you would be ambushed with humiliation and shot
with the amusing faces staring at you from high up. Once you made it on the line you must sand
strong from the beggars who would booby trap you into overloading your brain with their confusing
orders .Then you must stop the enemy who tries to ooze their way in the front of you, you must bring
forth sudden destruction by telling the commander and chief; the teacher where they would execute or

Essay On Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa
Junctional epidermolysis bullosa (ep i der mo lie sis bu low suh), also known as JEB, affects about
25,000 people in the US and roughly 500,000 people around the world. Most of these people are
young children because JEB is often lethal and 40% of those with the disease do not survive until
adolescence. JEB is a recessive genetic connective tissue disorder, but there are currently no genetic
tests that can be done to see if parents may be carriers of the disease. Parents usually find out that they
are carriers after their child is born with the condition.
JEB can be characterized by symptoms including fragile skin that results in blisters and skin erosion,

An article in the New York Times recently mentioned a promising new treatment for JEB. After losing
â…” of his epidermis due to a bacterial infection, a 7 year old boy with JEB was sent to a burn unit in
Germany, as burn units typically have treatments for people that lose a majority of their skin. The boy
was put in a medically induced coma and doctors attempted to treat him with antibiotics, bandages,
special nutritional measures and a skin transplant from the boy s father. None of the treatments worked
and the boy was expected to live for only an additional two months.
Doctors at the hospital reached out to Dr. Michele De Luca, the director of the Center for Regenerative
Medicine Stefano Ferrari at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in Italy. Dr. De Luca had
previous experience with smaller skin grafts for JEB, larger skin grafts for burn victims and corneal
grafts for eye injuries. His team removed ½ in2 of the boy s skin in an area where his skin was not yet
affected and genetically engineered his cells with a retroviral vector to the full version of the LAMB3
complementary DNA, which was a precursor to the normal version of his mutated gene. The cells
were grown into sheets totaling 9 ft2 and grafted back onto his body. 80% of the patient s skin was
replaced and the treatment was successful. The boy remains recovered two years after the treatment
and is now

Frame-Relay
.
Unit 3
Kaplan University

Professor Jeffrey Robinson
August 20, 2013 Abstract
In this discussion we look at some of the history around frame relay. We then look at some of the
equipment necessary to create the frame relay connections, as well as how the connections work both
logically and physically. Some limiting factors are discussed as well as committed information rates,
burst rates, an error handling. Some of the positive aspects of frame relay are identified along with
some options for the future of WAN technologies.
Frame Relay
Operating at the physical and datalink layers of the OSI model, frame relay is a high performing WAN
protocol. It was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This allows frame relay to provide a low cost of ownership while adhering to standards and
internetworking with other services. A highly reliable WAN may be achieved through frame relay and
a good service level agreement (SLA) from the provider.
Frame relay can be thought of as a simple principle because it allows the higher level protocols to deal
with many of the problems. Although, it can include optional features such as congestion notification
and signaling mechanisms. Ideally, a committed information rate (CIR) is selected that best meets the
needs of the customer. This is the maximum burst rate, which when exceeded can cause the frames to
be discard eligible (DE). In reality, the nature of frame relay allows all bits to be discard eligible, but
the error correction is handled by the upper layers. Some configurations allow speeds to burst above
the CIR, but never more than the physical capacity of the circuit. The DLCI is the connection
identifier for the PVC in the connection oriented datalink protocol that is frame relay. By switching
variable length frames, statistical multiplexing is achieved. Even though frame relay may be
susceptible to traffic delays it can still be optimized for delay sensitive traffic such as voice over IP.
Because the frame relay path is known, it is used to connect the customer premises equipment (CPE)
to the frame relay switch. The LMI keep alive signaling happens

Loyalty And Trust In The Odyssey

Odyssey Essay
The times have really changed throughout history and especially from the Odyssey was written, how
we see certain things right now are completely different from how people used to see them back in the
days.Media s emphasis on loyalty, ambition and trust are drastically different from the Odyssey and
because of this shift, it has transformed today s generation.
Today our youth take the loyalty different than the people in the Odyssey. Nowadays being known as
loyal is a bad thing, for example the quote these hoes ain t loyal is commonly used whenever a usually
a guy gets cheated on by a female. The origin of the word come from the some Loyal by Chris Brown.

Currently trust is something big which gossip, inappropriate images, secrets and personal issues, but in
the book the Odyssey trust was about trusting the gods and trusting that someone, a leader maybe
would save someone s life. Nowadays trust is about trusting a friend or someone doesn t spill what has
been said about someone or the pictures that were taken that were mostly nude to be leaked. In the
Odyssey however his crewmen trusted him with their lives so it was a greater deal. For instance when
they trusted him in going back and not listening to Eurylochus when he said they should go back on
Circuses island. Another time that they trusted him their lives was when decided to stay with and
Circus for a whole year knowing that she once turned some of them into pigs. When they were
heading back home they trusted him and did everything he told them when they reached the obstacles
like Scylla and sirens. In present times people often trust others with personal problems, such as
family conflicts and work issues. One wouldn t want their family issues broadcasted, like serious
problems like

Theory Of The Dreyfus s Model Of Skill Acquisition
2. Additional concepts: Describe concepts unique to the theory and how they are explained in the
theory.
Situational based model o Novice to Expert is a situational based model modified from the Dreyfus s
model of skill acquisition. The development of skills based upon the changes in performance (Tomey,
Alligood, 2006). o The level of performance is not viewed as a characteristic of performers; instead, it
is viewed as a function of the nurse s familiarity in a particular situation o The performance level is
determined by validation of expert judges and the outcomes of the situation (Tomey, Alligood, 2006).

Apache Mechanic Vs Civil Engineer
AH 64 Attack Helicopter(Apache) Mechanic vs Civil Engineer. Katharine Whitehorn once said, Find

  • 2. Rhetorical Analysis Of Fitness Advertisements The rhetorical imagery that is used to portray a man s body is spread throughout the fitness industry and health advertisements. These images are on the cover of well known magazines such as FITNESSRX , distribute worldwide targeting men, ages 18 30. These magazines give a visual rhetoric as a method of persuading beauty, body image, and the pursuit of perfection . These companies target young adults because they believe they have the money to buy their products to obtain the body they want or the body portrayed on the cover of the magazine. The advertisement inside the FITNESSRX , is advertising Hydroxycut, a product by MUSCLETECH. Hydroxycut is a dietary supplement that contains caffeine and plant extracts. The company states that it gives you extreme energy to improve performance in the gym with their so called cutting edge formula. This advertisement states that the product is not only for people who are overweight but for people that want the extra edge on getting cut like a pro bodybuilder. In the corner of the ad there is an article stating that studies show in 60 days you ll lose 10.95 pounds, this message gives off the impression that if you take the pills you will lose that much weight, they didn t mention that you also have to diet and work hard. • 3. Why I Believe In The Pickle Theory I believe in the pickle theory. You may think I am going to talk about how the pickling process relates to some other far off ideal, or how the number of seeds vary in every pickle and each represents something else. But you d be wrong. My pickle theory has to do with tradition. Every christmas my dad hides a pickle, a pepper, and a pea pod ornament. My two sisters and I then all go searching for one of these three things. Whoever finds the pickle gets first pick, pepper gets second, pea pod third. My dad then holds out three envelopes to choose from. Each envelope contains a different amount of money, ranging from smaller to larger amounts. The catch is, you don t know which envelope has which amount of money. This is where the pickle theory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second lesson I have learned from the pickle theory is that it winning isn t everything. Now this may sound exactly like the first one, but I promise this is different. The thing with winning in this sense is that you may get first place, but that doesn t necessarily mean you get first prize. Often times when you win something you end up with a hollow victory, or a feeling that even though you won, you some how lost. Although that is a much deeper subject in the same realm of my own, it still kind of describes the feeling when you realized to lost. Big time. The things I have learned simply from a pickle amaze me. I have changed the way I act in everyday life and I have changed the way I react in situations. For example. If I were playing a game of monopoly, I wouldn t worry about rolling the biggest number first. This is because getting the first move in the game has no advantage to how the out come of the game will turn out. That person may lose first, win first, or they may end up stuck in jail for most on the game. Instead, I would pay attention to what is going on ahead of me. My choices will decide my fate in the game, and all you can do is pay attention to what is happening and do whatever you think is best. Now that I think about it, the pickle theory creates an existential sort of belief. It is not the luck of finding the pickle and choosing first, it s your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I know it has been years since I have seen you last, but I want you to know that my travels with the heroic Odysseus has gone terrible. I have done horrific things that I hope you can forgive. Everything was fine until our sail home from Troy, where we all acted like reckless fools and all hell broke loose. We have been cursed by the gods Zeus and Poseidon and now I m afraid that this letter will be my last. On our way home to Ithaca, the winds blew us to the land of Ismarus. I was stored on wine, drunk, so drunk I can only remember the evil have done. Picking fights with the Cicones, raping innocent women, killing innocent men. I try to tell myself I was young, it wasn t my fault and it was the vicious vine that made me do all those horrible things, but, deep down I knew what I had done was horrendous and ungodly as well as unforgivable. If only I had listen to wise Odysseus call. I believe it was Back, and quickly! Out to sea again. But none of us warriors dared to listen. All we want to do is party and raid this poor city. As a result the god Zeus cursed us, our evil days punishing of group with the great lost of men. We fought out of pure anger fighting a battle that had not been need. That s when things went good to bad. After losing dozen of men in the battle on Ismarus, we stopped out to a land of the Cyclops after the Poseidon broke up our ship. John Williams Date Established: November 14 1936 Location: Prince William County, Virginia Landmarks: Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine, One day a Baltimore man named John Detrick was hiking along Quantico Creek during which near the meeting of the North and South Forks, he noticed something gleaming in the water. It was Pyrite, known commonly as fool s gold and Iron Sulfide. One of the great ironies of this area was that Pyrite would prove more profitable than the real gold found in the Greenwood Gold Mine. The Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine began operations in 1889. The large number of patents in the mid nineteenth century and industrial growth after the Civil War made pyrite profitable. Sulfur was a necessary ingredient in several household products such as soap, textiles, paper, and fertilizer. When World War I began, the Cabin Branch Pyrite Mine contributed to the production of gunpowder. After World War I, the price of pyrite dropped. Nationwide, in many industries, workers struck. While there is no evidence of union activity, workers at the Cabin Branch Mine started to strike in 1920. They demanded a 50 cent raise. By this time, cheaper sources of sulfur were found overseas. Economists from all over the world have been doing researches and studies on how to induce a growth in those underdeveloped countries. The major concern of the policies would be the approach to provide human basic needs (HBN) for each and every one of the people in the country. In nearly all of the LDC s, majority of the people are living under absolute poverty. This means that they are not able to provide a standard level of living for themselves. Different policies to improve the income inequality and also procure an economic growth include land reform, redistribution of saving and investment, education for all, progressive taxation, public expenditures from tax revenues and birth control. Some people think that there existed a trade off between growth and equity. They think that distributing income too equally would undermine incentives and thus lower everyone s income. They believed that the rich needed special encouragement to save and invest more in order to cause a growth in the economy. Recent evidence suggests that this conventional wisdom is wrong. Christians believe that Christ is the son of God, while Buddhists do not believe in God as the creator of the universe. Buddhism dates back to Nepal, India in the 5th century BCE. The early followers of Buddhism were a community of monks called the sangha. The literal meaning of Buddhism is those who follow the teachings of Buddha. The teachings of the Buddha are often referred to as the dharma , which also means cosmic law and order. The ethical guidelines of Buddhism are not to murder, lie, steal, drink, or participate in unlawful sexual behavior. • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Utilitarianism Many societies seem to be teetering in prosperity, which causes anxiety about future for many individuals. Some call for a society to run on the principle of utility, others call for individual freedom to be the prime drive to a society, while others call for the collective participation of all the members of a society to promote its just existence. A good, functional society must do more than the ideas promoted by utilitarianism and liberalism, it must cultivate good citizens through the process of involvement in the community and debate on moral issues. The two ideas which fall short in their ability to form a just society are utilitarianism and freedom based theories. In utilitarianism, the main goal is the maximization of happiness for ... Present America holds many individuals which, by one way or another, have passed the civic duties of a citizen and involvement in the politics of their society on to the governing body over them. The American dream includes a personal collection of material goods and comforts instead of good citizen characteristics. Social media involves little deep conversations and is instead comprised of superficial, quick communications. With bonds no longer being available in a public way, the pursuit of personal success and the pursuit of fulfillment of feeling only allow for private connections at most. Bellah warns, the culture of separation, if it ever became completely dominant, would collapse of its own incoherence (281). Bellah encourages religion as a source of connection in a community where individuals are encouraged to give back to their communities instead of focusing on themselves. What Bellah describes that truly destroys a society is not wars, it is inactivity: we have put our own good, as individuals, as groups, as a nation, ahead of the common good (285). What message was he trying to send by using the name of Macbeth, the king of Scotland in 1040? In Jonathan Goldberg s essay Speculations: Macbeth and source in Jean E Howard s anthology on Shakespeare, Goldberg explains how the King Duncan in the play is a reflection of the real life Duncan I from Scotland in the 1030s when Scotland was going through distressing times. There were two conspiracies against him during his ascension to the English throne in 1603, the Bye Plot and Main Plot, and in 1605, there was the aforementioned Gunpowder Plot. Shakespeare wrote Macbeth with dark themes to reflect on James reign as he was experiencing it. By relating the tone of the history of 11th century Scotland to the tone of 17th century England, Shakespeare is better able to imply his warning to James I that he might be killed because of how weak he was as a monarch. To further increase the significance of his warning, Shakespeare s writing style also changes during James reign compared to Elizabeth s reign. While Shakespeare was creating more romantic and positive tragedies and comedies during the Elizabethan era(such as A Midsummer Night s Dream and Romeo and Juliet), during the early 17th century, the Jacobean era, Shakespeare began writing darker tragedies such as Hamlet, Othello, and Macbeth. Shakespeare s writing in the Jacobean era were more about how persuasive corruption can ruin a hero and create a fatal flaw. One way a new historicist might look at this insight is to go back to James I. The information asymmetry about those models or features is common and may allow an aggressive sales person to exploit the buyer s ignorance (Englander Moy, 2003). Racial Profiling refers to the discriminatory practice by law enforcement officials of targeting individuals for suspicion of crime based on the individual s race, ethnicity, religion or national origin (American Civil Liberties Union). • 15. The Feminism Of Harriet Jacobs Nehemiah Walls Oct. 29, 2016 Eng.333 The Feminism of Harriet Jacobs Since the early annuls of history minority groups have always faced opposition for the dominating forcing. As a counter rebuttal movements and uprisings usually occurred in order to correct and promote better treatment within these oppressed groups. Feminism served as a mechanism to promote equity amongst gender, sexual, ethnic, and even economic lines. Notwithstanding, there still looms bigotry and oppression from the heavily dominated ideals of the elite patriarchy. Harriet Jacobs s personal narrative, Incidents in the Life of Slave Girl unveils the objectification, exploitation, and feminist perceptions of liberation from the reins of a heavily dominated white patriarchal society during the 19th century through the experiences of the main character Linda Brent. How did Jacobs reveal the hardships that slave women faced through the eyes of Linda Brent? While captive black women faced constant sexual encroachments by their slave holders, Richard Follett, author of the article, Lives of Living Death : The reproductive lives of slave women in the cane world of Louisiana stated, despite the enormous burdens that enslavement imposed on them...bondwomen challenged the misogynist assumptions that underpinned plantation practices (Follett pg. 290). These instances can take place at work, school, the military and even at church. But exactly what is sexual exploitation or unwanted sexual behavior? After looking at several definitions for sexual abuse I came across the following definition that I feel will help all of us to better understand what inappropriate sexual behavior is. The harasser may not always know that they are being offensive but if the other person is uncomfortable and has stated this to them then he or she should stop before legal action is brought forth. Some women may even prefer not to report any allegations of being pressured sexually for fear of what might happen to them if they do. Although it is not lawful to retaliate against an individual for exposing employment practices that discriminate many people would seek retaliatory efforts. Therefore there are many women who feel it may be better for them to suffer in silence than to deal with revengeful or vindictive tactics such as being denied promotions or being scorned by other women who may think that the victim is pressing charges for attention. Because of the nature of such unprofessional behavior the victim may find him or herself very alone and no one wants to go through that especially after suffering through the harassment itself. Being sexually abused can have similar effects like rape in which the victim falls prey to depression, shame and guilt. The United States had an open door policy where free flow of trade, investment, information, and culture were key principles in foreign relations. Later we started to become an intervening military, involved with other nation affairs, and wanting to promote liberty and democracy. The United States wanted to remake the world into the American image. World War I was the first test of Wilson s belief that American power could make the world safe for democracy . Before World War I, most of the interventions appropriated in the western hemisphere. This became a time where the beliefs of imperialism, nationalism, and socialism were common thoughts amongst Americans. However, once world spread about what is happening, in Europe, Americans were split. British Americans defended England, German Americans sided with Germany, and Irish Americans strongly opposed England. Others gave credence to, peace being essential to enhance the efforts of social justice at home. War broke out in Europe, Wilson proclaimed the United States to be a neutral party. But the American public opinion changed when the passenger ship Lusitania sunk by German boats, 124 American s died. Essay Sir Isaac Newton s Three Laws of Motion We have all heard the story of the apple falling on Newton s head while he was sitting against the tree, thus giving him the sudden idea for the Universal Law of Gravity. This, as I am sure most of us know, is not really what happened. A more accurate version would probably be, Newton observed an apple falling from a tree and started contemplating the physics of the apple s fall. The acceleration experienced by the apple, which started at zero when hanging in the tree, then increased as the apple fell. This as Newton reasoned from his second law of motion, means there must be a force acting upon the apple in order to cause the acceleration, this force we will call gravity. Thus giving us the acceleration due to this force ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hebe was actually the daughter of Hera, the women who tried to kill Hercules. Along with getting married he had a child in Olympus where he started to live the life of an immortal. Though he did end with becoming immortal and getting married this is probably not the ideal ending for Disney, because instead Disney only used half of the original myth and even changed some of that. As you might expect, dry rubs have only dry ingredients. They will typically include powdered spices and sometimes dry herbs along with salt and sugar. The idea is to create a crust for the meat that will flavor it without making it too moist. You should apply the rub liberally to the outside of the meat and massage it in. • 39. Evil And Innocence In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales Evil is a word that is rooted in thoughts, and actions. The concept of evil is a convoluted force. In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, morals are reexamined through each tale. Chaucer discusses moral evil and its relevance to innocence, specifically in the Pardoner s Tale, with the three rakes, and in the Prioress Tale, with the young boy. The seducing of innocence to become dishonorable is evil. All things wicked start from innocence. Innocence is beautiful. The three rakes and the young boy illustrate the most simplest form of innocence which reserves the revelation of evil. In the Pardoner s Tale, the three rakes insist on discovering who smote the man s heart in two (Chaucer 355). The murder, Death is dangerous and the rakes courageously took this opportunity to help themselves and others from the danger. This demonstrates the rakes ability to want to improve other people s lives while also showcasing the righteousness they contain. The murderer, Death, shall be slain and the three men pledged their word of honor to live and die for the other,/ as though each were the other s brother born (357). Chaucer demonstrates the virtue these men have for themselves and for each other. Although, they drink too much they still embody supportive and honorable friends. The hope that death shall be dead, if they catch him (357) depicts the beauty in their hopes and innocence. The beauty of the widow s son, seven years of age, in the Prioress Tale, paints the unknown virtue during the walk to and from school. The mother has always teaches her son to worship our blissful Lady,/ Christ s dear Mother, and he did not forget it (373). Chaucer proves that innocent children will always learn quickly (373). As I read about this issue, I felt sympathy for the Indigenous peoples, as it was overwhelming for me to find out that this much discrimination has occurred in a nation as diverse and developed as Canada. Reading more about colonization helped me to make connections between the issues and topics I have learned about in class, and how they can be traced back to European contact with the Indigenous peoples. The Colonial powers in Canada rested in the hands of the British and the French, who declared sovereignty over the territories which rightfully belonged to the Indigenous peoples (Cochrane et al. 70). The worst effect of colonialism is the exploitation, domination, and subjugation of the people by the imperial power (Cochrane et al. 71). Due to the fact that their rights were determined solely by the white society s rules, one of the only governance options left for Indigenous peoples was to become independent of the Canadian state (Cochrane et al. 87). Starting with the 1960 campaign, it was the first of its kind and so all that was broadcasted was not advanced as compared to the debates that succeeded. The 1960 Kennedy/Nixon debate was broadcasted live from a television studio unlike other debates that followed (Webley, 2010). Else too; the images were not clear they lacked quality definition due the fact that the technology used then was not so advanced like that of the years that succeeded ( History, n.d ). Essay On Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa Junctional epidermolysis bullosa (ep i der mo lie sis bu low suh), also known as JEB, affects about 25,000 people in the US and roughly 500,000 people around the world. Most of these people are young children because JEB is often lethal and 40% of those with the disease do not survive until adolescence. JEB is a recessive genetic connective tissue disorder, but there are currently no genetic tests that can be done to see if parents may be carriers of the disease. Parents usually find out that they are carriers after their child is born with the condition. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An article in the New York Times recently mentioned a promising new treatment for JEB. After losing â…” of his epidermis due to a bacterial infection, a 7 year old boy with JEB was sent to a burn unit in Germany, as burn units typically have treatments for people that lose a majority of their skin. The boy was put in a medically induced coma and doctors attempted to treat him with antibiotics, bandages, special nutritional measures and a skin transplant from the boy s father. None of the treatments worked and the boy was expected to live for only an additional two months. Doctors at the hospital reached out to Dr. Michele De Luca, the director of the Center for Regenerative Medicine Stefano Ferrari at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in Italy. Dr. De Luca had previous experience with smaller skin grafts for JEB, larger skin grafts for burn victims and corneal grafts for eye injuries. His team removed ½ in2 of the boy s skin in an area where his skin was not yet affected and genetically engineered his cells with a retroviral vector to the full version of the LAMB3 complementary DNA, which was a precursor to the normal version of his mutated gene. The cells were grown into sheets totaling 9 ft2 and grafted back onto his body. 80% of the patient s skin was replaced and the treatment was successful. • 48. Frame-Relay . Unit 3 Kaplan University IT530 Professor Jeffrey Robinson August 20, 2013 Abstract In this discussion we look at some of the history around frame relay. We then look at some of the equipment necessary to create the frame relay connections, as well as how the connections work both logically and physically. Some limiting factors are discussed as well as committed information rates, burst rates, an error handling. Some of the positive aspects of frame relay are identified along with some options for the future of WAN technologies. Frame Relay Operating at the physical and datalink layers of the OSI model, frame relay is a high performing WAN protocol. It was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows frame relay to provide a low cost of ownership while adhering to standards and internetworking with other services. A highly reliable WAN may be achieved through frame relay and a good service level agreement (SLA) from the provider. Frame relay can be thought of as a simple principle because it allows the higher level protocols to deal with many of the problems. Although, it can include optional features such as congestion notification and signaling mechanisms. Ideally, a committed information rate (CIR) is selected that best meets the needs of the customer. This is the maximum burst rate, which when exceeded can cause the frames to be discard eligible (DE). In reality, the nature of frame relay allows all bits to be discard eligible, but the error correction is handled by the upper layers. Some configurations allow speeds to burst above the CIR, but never more than the physical capacity of the circuit. The DLCI is the connection identifier for the PVC in the connection oriented datalink protocol that is frame relay. By switching variable length frames, statistical multiplexing is achieved. Even though frame relay may be susceptible to traffic delays it can still be optimized for delay sensitive traffic such as voice over IP. Because the frame relay path is known, it is used to connect the customer premises equipment (CPE) to the frame relay switch. The LMI keep alive signaling happens ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
