The Main Goal Of An Artist
Similar to all great writers and innovators, the main goal of an artist is to spark a creative perspective
in the audience. Sarah Ruhl s oddly blunt play, Eurydice, was meant to open up our minds and create
an outlook that has never been achieved before. Her intent was to keep us on our toes and read
between the lines in order to find the hidden truths in each line. The simplicity of the script was meant
to be a little strange and dull, but by doing this Ruhl entered a realm of playwriting that has not been
accomplished before. Usually, in the performances we watch we are bombarded with long, complex
sentences that leave the audience confused. The vocabulary used is always either outdated or too
complicated for many people to understand quickly. However, in this place Ruhl took the opposite
approach and chose short and simple sentences, leaving more room for interpretation. By making each
line somewhat awkward and dull, Ruhl engages the audiences attention in order to make sense of the
words. Many factors could have motivated Ruhl to write her play in such fashion. For example, when
I was reading the play I connected her style of writing to artists and poets of the 1960 s, like Bob
Dylan and Jim Morrison, who had such a beautiful yet simple play on words. Her outlandish sentences
probably made no sense to someone with a closed mind, this related directly to how the Dylan and
Morrison were perceived in their time as well. Many people didn t understand or allow

National Security Requirements Exercised The Most...
National security requirements exercised the most significant influence on the development of
airpower in Europe and the United States before the Second World War (WWII). Nations on both
sides of the ocean had experienced the multifaceted disastrous results of World War I (WWI) and
airpower seemed to be the answer for future wars. Understanding the context and consequences of
WWI is vital to comprehend airpower theorists like Douhet, Mitchell and Trenchard and their
revolutionary thoughts on airpower. The development of aircraft at the beginning of the twentieth
century challenged not only military leadership but also, more important, the national security of
modern states. The basic question was: How will strategic bombing of enemy territory fit in to
national security and military strategy? This paper will narrow the view on Europe by selecting Great
Britain as one of the most relevant nations in WWII concerning strategic bombing. WWI was the first
total war in the industrial age with unprecedented casualties on all sides of the belligerent nations. In
spite of gigantic troop numbers, both sides expected a quick war with a decisive victory. However, in
1915, the maneuvering part of the war was over and resulted ultimately in bloody trench warfare.
Furthermore, as the war continued, attrition of the adversary became the main goal as the battle at
Verdun highlighted. Consequently, aircraft offered an alternative to the static warfare of the trenches.

How The Low Income Of Countries Such As Chad And Papua New...
Introduction
This report is to help introduce the low income of countries such as Chad and Papua New Guinea, and
comparing them to a country such as Sweden who has no income. For years, certain countries, as the
two listed above cannot maintain a lifestyle with the incomes that are available to them. Using
incomes will help to see where the problem is occurring and how it might be approached to aid the
countries. Reporting on the countries will give insight into a historical background including
independence of the countries, along with education, literacy, life factors, and poverty by using the
GINI to show how wide the gaps can be and become.
Historical Background In 1946 Chad became an Overseas Territory of France and on August 11, 1960
obtained independence, but short lived, because of a tyrant dictator, Francois Tombalbaye, who never
really released them from his grip, and Chad had been in a civil war, until 1990 when Idriss Deby, a
military commander, took control and with his rule, multi party politics has returned to Chad, giving
some freedoms back to its citizens (Chad s long road to independence, 2010).
Papua New Guinea was under the government of Australia, and the UN pushed Australia to give
Papua New Guinea independence and help create a group that would be able to run a government
through social and educated influences. On September 16, 1975 Papua New Guinea obtained their
independence with a monarchy ruled by Queen Elizabeth II as head of state represented

Over the years, I have come to realize that the greatest trap in our life is not success, popularity, or
power, but self rejection, Henry J.M Houwen once stated. In the graphic novel American Born
Chinese by Gene Luen Yang, Jin Wang and the monkey king experiences rejection as they interact
with society. In the short story Linh Lai by Rebecca Rosenblum, Linh Lai helplessly suffers rejection
as she struggles to meet her uncle and Mr. Koenburg s expectations. In the short story Tapka by David
Bezomozgis, people are rejected because of their differences. Rejection by society exists in Tapka and
Linh Lai, whereas American Born Chinese incorporates both rejections by themselves and by society.

Lastly, Mr. Koenberg tries to prevent Linh from talking to the skaters. You talk to those something
something boys who long something. Bad for business, Jinny, (9) Mr. Koenberg says to Linh, thus
making her worry of what he would think of her when she continues to talk to the skaters. Linh
struggles as her uncle Steve and Mr. Koenberg rejects her for not meeting their expectations.
The graphic novel American Born Chinese shows how being rejected by society leads to self rejection.
Firstly, the monkey king is denied entry to the dinner party because he is a monkey. When the monkey
king demands to be let into the dinner party, the guard says Look. You may be a king you may even be
a deity but you are still a monkey, (Yang 15), and then, the monkey king begins to notice and hate the
thick smell of monkey fur when he gets home. Additionally, the monkey king refuses to call himself a
monkey. Tze yo tzuh visits the monkey king one day, and he then calls the monkey king a silly little
monkey, but the monkey king doesn t accept this, and then Tze yo tzu says, I created you. I say that
you are a monkey. Therefore, you are a monkey. (69). Lastly, Jin rejects to be himself due to the fact
that he is Chinese, therefore, he cannot ask Amelia out. One night, Jin desperately wants to have a
completely different appearance, and then he dreams of the herbalist s wife, and she says, So, little
friend, you have done it. Now what would you like to become? (194),

Longfellow Vs Keats
Both poems are sonnets that focus on early death; however, each poet displays different emotions for
life and death in their poems. On the one hand, Keats displays an optimistic view of life, but is
contemptuous towards death since it will mark an unwanted end to his artistic, romantic, and countless
other endeavors. On the other, Longfellow distrusts life and fears death. As an indicator of these
contrasting sentiments, the poets not only use significantly different types of poems, but they also
differ in their rhetorical devices purposes in the shared iambic pentameter structure. In particular, they
use imagery, diction, mechanical devices and metaphors in varying extents and purposes. Keats
Elizabethan sonnet contains vivid, buoyant imagery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both openings, each poet recognizes the ephemeral element of life. Keats fears that he may cease to
be, while Longfellow reflects, half of life is gone (Keats 1; Longfellow 1). Through diction, this trend
becomes evident. For example, Keats uses the words, Huge cloudy symbols, and shadows, indicating
almightiness and transcendence (Keats 6, 8). Longfellow too recognizes nature s power, going even
further, capitalizing the words Past and Death (Longfellow 9, 14). Such capitalization is done out of
respect for the power of these words, and further, as a reiteration that the present is determined by the
past and the future. In effect, Longfellow realizes that the present is the morphed version of the past
and the future, and thus gives no capitalization, or significance, to it. Keats experiences the opposite.
He very much endorses the attitude of carpe diem, trying to move on from the past only to be greeted
by the grim face of death. By the end of the poem, each poet describes similar circumstances. Keats
approaches a shore, while Longfellow ascends a hill to contemplate life. They differ, however, as
Keats views a wide world replete with literary repute and love, but realizes it is nothingness in the
bigger picture (Keats 13 14). Thus, he pursues what remains of his opportunities, despite knowing his
human insignificance. Conversely, Longfellow sees the gleaming lights of an idyllic past with a
waterfall of death that will haunt him now and what remains of his future (Longfellow

Australia s Economic Success And Growth Rates
Economic Background:
In the past two decades, the Australian economy has been, and continues to be a very strong and
steady economy because of steady GDP growth rates, with an average around 3.5% annually
(Heritage.org). Australia has also benefitted from considerably low inflation and unemployment rates.
Because of these macroeconomic values, Australia is ranked third in the ranking of regional
economies (Heritage.org). The reasons for Australia s ongoing success is mainly because of the boom
in foreign demand of importing the plethora of natural resources and minerals the country contains,
combined with the structural economic policies enacted in the 1980 s (The Economist Australia s
Economy). Australia is also one of the few countries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The largest slice of Australia s exports go to China, exporting around 31.6% of its total exports,
making China Australia s biggest benefactor to its economy (DFAT). Although the exports mainly
consist of the titanic amount of minerals that Australia mines, China also imports large quantities of
wool, another heavily traded commodity of Australia. One of the leading wool industries, the
Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) has said it is easier to sell fine wool for clothes to China than to
traditional recession hit markets in Europe (The Economist Hitched to the China Wagon).
The exportation of wool in conjunction with the exportation of minerals and ore to China makes China
a strong partner with Australia when it comes to resource trading. China obviously is dependent on
Australia s exportations, making Australia s relations with China a strength of the overall Australian
economy. The Australian economy however, is clearly just as dependent on China s demand for such
commodities. Although Australia greatly benefits from China s demand in its exports, Australia needs
to make sure the trade relations between them don t act as a crutch for the Australian economy. Recent
studies and articles predict China s demand for Australian goods will be shifting leftward in the near
future, possibly impacting Australia s economy, and putting it into a recession.
Weaknesses of Economy:
When it comes to economic weaknesses, Australia is fairly unique in comparison to other

nonverbal cues that she was in distress. It appeared that she was in crisis mode, needed to feel
supported and needed my help. Ms. Thomas also disclosed to me her secrete she was not sharing with
her granddaughter about her medical condition. Looking at it from Ms. Thomas perspective, she might
be feeling sad, despair, afraid, disappointed and wondering why me. My responses were intended to
provide empathy and a sense of understanding and support. In addition, I was assessing her emotional
stability and level of understanding of the upcoming medical intervention.
When Ms. Thomas started crying I was thinking to myself that she didn t feel hopeful about her

reassure her that it was ok to cry and take as much time she needs to let it out.
During this session, I felt connected to Ms. Thomas as I was able to tune in with her emotion as I
experienced similar emotions when informed that a coworker/friend was diagnosed with cancer. When
Ms. Thomas said that she was diagnosed with cancer, I was taken back to when I found out my

A Survey on Human Mobility Modeling The speaker of this presentation is Hugo Serrano Barbosa
Filho from Florida Tech. The topic of this presentation is the importance of human mobility modeling
and several human mobility modeling methods Human mobility model represents the movement of
human and how they change their positions over time[1]. At the beginning of presentation Mr. Filho
answered two questions. First, human mobility research is about analyze and predict human daily
activities and places they visiting. Second, human mobility modeling is reproduce patterns about
human mobility activities, and the reason why modeling human mobility is it can help to solve a lot of
problems. These problems are very important in nowadays. For example, traffic forecasting can
forecast traffic situation in different streets and give drivers the best path to destination. Urban
planning can help improving the urban areas. Epidemics modeling can predicate how epidemics such
like flu moved and how to control it. Then Mr. Filho introduced the two different levels of human
mobility. The first one we call it individual level, which is a micro level. It is about an individual s
activities, such like what places he/she visits in a week. But in the other hand is the population level,
which is a macro level. This level is about the entire data of a group people s activities, such like how
many cars travel through a particular road each week, or how many people migrate from one area to

Headscarf Controversy
French media coverage of the headscarf controversy perpetuates considerable misunderstanding of
Islam and thus the politics of secularism extend to media framing of the tension between religious
minorities and the non religious in a society where secular is hegemonic. In 1989, in a small town
outside of Paris, three girls were expelled for wearing Hijabs. The girls were in no way disruptive, or
incapable academically, however, the event became significant to the reframing of the headscarf as a
;veil; or misrepresentation as a chador through and by the media. Furthermore, public intellectuals in
the media promoted concerns regarding Iran type mobilisation in France. A similar incident occurred

Franciscans Vs Jesuits
Christianity is widely known as being one of the largest and fastest spreading religions in the world. A
unique aspect of Christianity is its ability to accommodate many different ways of thinking and living.
In just Catholicism alone, there are multiple different religious institutes, orders, and congregations,
one of which being the Society of Jesus, or the Jesuits. In the 16th century, evangelization the
spreading of the word of Jesus along with the expansion of Europe to Africa, Asia, and the Americas,
are reason for the vast amount of missionaries and practicing Christians around the globe. The

The many aspects of the outside of this church alone reveal that it is a Jesuit Church. The use of
baroque architecture is a major factor in distinguishing buildings of this time from one another. The
Gesu is the first major building featuring Baroque, which is significant to the Counter Reformation,
and it is also the template for Jesuit churches around the world. Baroque architecture followed
renaissance art from the Middle Ages. The many aspects of this style make it feel as if it is going
against the norm. Architects aspire to make baroque buildings look as if they are sculpted and
contoured, rather than mathematically planned. Using techniques to make walls look curved together
as one single entity is a way baroque artists integrated movement into architecture. Unique ground
plans of oval or ellipse shape are a distinguished aspect of baroque, in contrast to the circles, squares,
and Greek crosses used in the renaissance. Architecturally, the Gesu is a marvel. It is the second
largest in size, following St. Peters Basilica, and also has one of the largest domes in Rome. The
baroque aspect of the dome is its inability to be seen from the front of the church, it is only viewable
from the sides. In addition, the pillars on the exterior are in even pairs of two lining the front wall,
however they are carved out of the stone, not standing independently. Despite this, the pillars still

Islam And The Beliefs Of Islam
Though Islam is usually defined in today s society as a religion that actualizes a terrorist cult called
Isis. Terrorism is defined as where men and women go rogue and commit acts of evil. Islam is not
that, nor does it create terrorists. Terrorists are not following Islam. Killing people and blowing people
up and dropping bombs in places and all this is not the way to spread the word of Islam. So people
realize now terrorists are not Muslim. Muhammad Ali. The strong person is not the good wrestler.
Rather the strong person is the one who controls himself when he is angry. Unknown. Islam in
America has gotten a bad rep because of the terrorist group known as Isis . Isis claims they pursue the
faith of Islam and always take the Credit when an attack happens on the peoples, or a country. In the
following paragraphs I plan on separating Islam into three defining categories that are the following
Devotion, Peace, and Balance. Devotion is a characteristic of many of the followers of Islam have.
Devotion is defined as the love or enthusiasm for or about a person, activity, or cause. In the Muslim
faith followers must be devoted to the words of Allah and follow them vigorously. In Islam followers
must be devoted because they must follow every command in order to reach their version of heaven.
They must pray every day and go on some pretty daring adventures, including fasting and migrating to
another city. Peace, it is a feeling every human and animal deserves to feel.

The Fundamental Principles Of The Metaphysics Of Morals
Introduction:
In the reading of Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Morals, Kant mentions our actions
being done out of duty or of desire. In which we have our maxims are a fraction of our actions and it
turns into a universal law. In this essay, I shall explain what Kant means by I can also will that my
maxim should become a universal law (Prompt). Also, how it corresponds to the first proposition, that
Kant states, which is an action must be from moral duty. I will provide an example of this proposition
taking place.
Summary:
Emmanuel Kant has three propositions of morality. One of the propositions is that in order to have
moral worth, an action must be from a moral duty. The second proposition is that action whether the
action is in accord with duty has been done from duty or from some selfish purpose is easy (Cahn 76).
The third proposition is that action accord with duty and the subject has in addition an immediate
inclination to do the action (Cahn 76). Each one of the propositions has a different distinct and they
are connected to morality. There are several actions that can be done out of duty, while others can be
done out of desire. Each one of these two are used to determine if it s done in a moral way. Kant gives
two examples, one example is about a self interested shopkeeper and the other is a reluctant
benefactor. In the self interested shop keeper, the dealer is focused on having fixed prices for
everyone. He needs the customers to keep coming

A Brief Note On Diabetes And Its Effects On Diabetes Essay
Diabetes Policy This paper focuses on people with diabetes. Diabetes occurs when there is impaired
ability by the pancreas to produce enough insulin, or the body loses its ability to utilize the insulin
produced by pancreas effectively. Consequently, the body fails to regulate the level of glucose in the
blood. The failure to control glucose leads to episodes of hyperglycemia, especially after a meal.
Diabetes is one of the chronic conditions that account for the largest morbidity rates globally.
According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2015), approximately 29.1
million people living in the United States had diabetes. Out of this number, about 21.0 million people
were diagnosed. The remaining 8.1 million cases were undiagnosed. According to the World Health
Organization (2016), the prevalence of diabetes among adults aged over 18 years was 8.5% in 2014.
The prevalence had increased from 4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014. The increased has been most
significant among the middle and low income countries. This has mostly been explained by the
changes in income distribution in those countries. In other words, the proportion of people who have
had an increase of revenue has increased significantly in the middle and low income countries. People
with diabetes lack the ability to regulate the level of glucose in the blood. Consequently, whenever
they eat, their blood glucose level rises above the normal maximum limit leading to hyperglycemia.

Gender Wage Gap

GOVT 2305 P50
August 4, 2016
Throughout our world s history we have seen many grievous instances where discrimination caused
severely negative repercussions on how our society functions. The inequity demonstrated by our
nation in the past has estranged its residents based on their religion, the color of their skin, their
beliefs, and even their gender. With time, our community has become more accepting which has led to
the abolishment of most, if not all, bigotry and racist beliefs. However, there is still an issue today that
we have been facing for almost a century. This conflict has led to the prohibition of certain people
obtaining a particular job in some cases, and the penalty of being paid less than her male colleagues if
she were to obtain that job. The problem is sexism and its consequences.
The consequences of this type of discrimination lead to unequal pay for the same kind of work. The
American Association of University Women is releasing a new study that shows when men and
women attend the same kind of college, pick the same major and accept the same kind of job, on
average, the woman will still earn 82 cents to every dollar that a man earns (Coleman) . This
embodiment originates from the very popular credence that men provide for women in a family
environment and that the wives are the parent who care for the children at home, therefore making
them more unfocused in their workplace, hence the belief

The Argument of Dualism Essay
In my mind, dualism is a more attractive view to take when considering the mind brain issue. The idea
that the mind is a separate entity and that it is independent of the physical body is the central point of
dualism. One reason it appeals to me is because of my religion, my Catholic upbringing. Introspection
is another good reason why dualism is a little more logical to me than materialism.. It logically
explains why the mind and brain are separate. Also, the divisibility argument raises good points to
allow dualism to appear to be the more attractive idea in my eyes. Dualism claims that the mind is a
distinct nonphysical thing, a complete entity that is independent of any physical body to which it is
temporarily attached. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sure the brain has the actual chemical processes and functions, but the mind holds the reasoning
behinds actions, and the complex feelings a person has. It is basically what makes a person who he is,
and controls his actions as a person. The brain only tells the body to carry out these actions. I think
that introspection is another good explanation for dualism being more attractive to me. Introspection
was explained to be a sort of mental state, like when you know you have a desire for something to eat.
If this occurs, one?s mind will tell his brain to make the body get up and get food to eat. I do not think
that the brain is capable of having that feeling of hunger, there might be a reaction in the brain to the
stomach being empty, but I believe the actual feeling is in the brain. A person has no way of knowing
the actual brain process, it can not be felt. That is an act that can only take place in one?s mind. The
actual wanting of food is going to be happening in the mind, not the brain. I think my mind is the focal
point of desires and other feelings, the brain is just a device which the mind uses to carry out its
wishes. A third argument for dualism is paranormal phenomena. Mental powers such as telepathy,
precognition, telekinesis, and clairvoyance are all near impossible to explain within the boundaries of
the physical brain. These phenomena reflect the nonphysical and supernatural nature

impossible to leave because Colonel Cathcart is constantly raising the number of mission required

base faster, and he also falsifies the bomb line on the map to make the commanders think the area has
already been captured, calling off the air strike from being deployed. Yossarian s analysis of other
members on the Air Force base offers a better understanding of each character and how they are just as
crazy as Yossarian. Despite, Yossarian s efforts to avoid the war, he is mortified by the death of fellow
soldiers. First Mudd, a soldier killed just two hours after his arrival, was dumped in Yossarian s tent
and even though Yossarian insists there is a dead body in his tent, everyone in the air force base denies
it. Second, was a soldier named Snowden, that died in Yossarian s arms during one of the missions.
Lastly, was Nately, Yossarian s dearest friend, whose death results in making Yossarian determined to
not fly anymore missions. Since the superior officers Colonel Cathcart and Korn are unable to stop
Yossarian from rebelling, they give him two options, he can either be sent home or face a court
martial. Nevertheless, there was a catch that if he took the option of being sent home he would have to

A Study On The Mammalian Diving Reflex
Introduction: The mammalian diving reflex represents a primary physiological mechanism to
maximize underwater excursions in air breathing animals. Traditionally, the oxygen conserving reflex
consists of three metabolic and cardiovascular adjustments: (1) notable bradycardia; (2) selective
peripheral vasoconstriction; and (3) increased blood flow to the viscera (Kawakami et al., 1967).
Previous studies have observed such a response in birds and mammals, generalizing the considerable
reduction of heart rate, or diving bradycardia, as indicative of the response (Butler, 1982). The
evolutionary success of these diving animals relies partly on the functional significance of reducing
metabolic demands to prologue underwater survival. Although ... Show more content on

Moreover, Gooden (1994) describes apnea as an essential element to the diving reflex; it ensures not
only the prevention of water inhalation, but also acts as an energy saving device through decreasing
nerve stimulation to the diaphragm and intercostals. Therefore, heart rate will be monitored under both
experimental conditions and compared to the resting rate and apneic resting rate. As a profound
autonomic phenomenon, further establishment of the diving reflex in humans will shed light on the
preservation of the reflex and its role in the survival during near drowning experiences. Only by
examining the physiological response in humans can we appreciate the evolutionary significance of
this innate neural circuitry.
Methods:
An untrained 22 year old male human subject was chosen. A PT 104 pulse plethysmograph was

heart rate was monitored on LabScribe. The recordings were measured with ten seconds of leeway at
the beginning and end to allow baseline pulse recovery. Digital marks labeled the time interval of the
described action. First the subject s heart rate was measured during a resting phase for twenty seconds.
He was encouraged to relax and remain inactive in order to confirm an accurate baseline reading. For

Capsaicin and the Stomach Essay
Almost everyone is told that consuming capsaicin causes stomach problems, but the opposite is true.
What is capsaicin? Capsaicin is found in chili peppers which originated in Latin America; due to it
pungent flavor was traded by Spanish and Portuguese explorers during the sixteenth century to Europe
and Asia and is now one of the essential spices in the world. Chili peppers have been used for
centuries in the seasoning of food, but recently, scientists have started using it for medical purposes.
Many speculate that capsaicin helps improve and treat various health problems, some as simple as
headaches to cancer and that it can promote blood circulation, maintain weight loss, and prevent the
deterioration of the lining of the stomach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The real culprits are bacteria called Helicobacter pylori, most commonly known as H. pylori, aspirin,
alcohol, stress, excessive acid secretion in the stomach, the reduction in gastric mucous blood flow
and anti inflammatory medicine. H. pylori are bacteria that significantly contribute to the formation of
gastric ulcers as they promote the secretion of acid and deteriorate the mucus in the stomach and when
capsaicin is consumed it kills the bacteria. Also in a study conducted by a researcher, two groups of
volunteers with normal stomach linings were given aspirin to take daily, the control group was just
given the aspirin while the experimental group was given aspirin and water with chili powder, the
results were that the control group had the most deterioration of the stomach mucus. It seems that
capsaicin slows acid secretion and promotes the production of mucus secretion. Mucus protects the
lining of the stomach and when a person suffers from gastric ulcers it is because their mucus
production is low and they secret too much acid, which eats away at the stomach s lining.
Although many scientists believe that capsaicin helps the stomach, others opinions differ, like in any
scientific study. These opposing scientists believe that capsaicin actually is a carcinogen, which means
that when used internally causes cancerous cells to form. In some experiments, rats treated with
capsaicin formed

Why Is Eliza Hamilton Important
Throughout the course of history, there have been many important people whose names shall be
known forever. But what about the people who shaped the world, but didn t get the fame? Elizabeth
Schuyler Hamilton, or Eliza Hamilton, was one of those people. Eliza Hamilton was born in 1757 in
Albany, New York, and she died at the age of 97 in Washington, D.C. When she was 23 years old, she
married the man who would forever change her future: Alexander Hamilton. As well as performing
the expected hardships of being a mother in the 18th century, Eliza also greatly helped Alexander with
his work. She helped him write many of his essays and speeches, and she gave him advice about all
aspects of his work in the colonial government. Eliza s devoted work ... Show more content on

After Alexander died in a duel in 1804, Eliza joined the Society for the Relief of Poor Widows with
Small Children. After learning about charity work and how to run an organization, Eliza and one of
her friends founded the Orphan Asylum Society in 1806. Eliza was the second director, or the vice
president for 15 years. Then, in 1821, she became the Directress and served for another 12 years
before she died. In between working at Orphan Asylum Society, Eliza also founded the first private
orphanage of New York, which is still around today. Anyone can visit it, and see Eliza s own legacy.
In the early 1800 s, there were many poor people and few rich people, but the few that were rich lived
in splendors and the many that were poor lived in poverty. Eliza grew up having everything she
wanted, and so it took Eliza a while to realize the state at which the majority of the population of

Fighter Interceptor Wing
Introduction Just shortly, after the end of World War II the United States Air Force realized they
needed a fighter jet to replace the highly popular P 51 Mustang. North American Aviation Corporation
was granted the contract to build these medium range, single seat, high altitude, multi purpose fighter
jet/bombers. There were over 6,000 of the jets produced between the two facilities in Los Angeles,
California and Columbus, Ohio. This plane was the first United States jet fighter with swept wings,
which allowed it to unofficially break the sound barrier on 1 October 1947. Five years later,
Jacqueline Cochran became the first woman to break the sound barrier flying a Canadian variant of
the F 86. Not only was the plane more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the technology advanced in China and North Korea the MiG 15 came in to play and was far more
superior than the piston engine aircraft the United States and UN forces were flying. One of the most
significant things about the MiG 15 is that with its superiority over the P 51 Mustang the United States
Air Force had to keep all of the B 29 Superfortress grounded due to the lack of security. The B 29
Superfortress had been a major game changer in World War II. The B 29 was designed for the high
altitude strategic bomber role. One of the B 29 s final roles during World War II was carrying out the
atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After the F 86 Sabre was introduced in Korea, they
patrolled the area just south of the Yalu, the so called Mig Alley, in long figure eights, always turning
towards the north to keep from being surprised. The F 86 Sabre s and the MiG s were evenly matched.
Both had 6,000 pound thrust jet engines, and could go supersonic in a dive. The MiG was smaller, and
it could climb higher and faster. The Sabre was faster in level flight and in a dive, had a greater range,
and could turn tighter in a fast dive. The Sabre carried six 50 caliber machine guns, while the MiG
relied on a single 37 mm and two 23 mm cannon. (Sherman, Acepilots, 2011) With the facts that were
out about the MiG 15 the United States Air Force wanted to prove

A Research On Parenting Aspects Of Military Connected...
Methodology We used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta analyses
Approach (PRISMA) for generating and systematically reviewing and analyzing original published
studies on military families, their children s behaviors, and parenting interventions. Key definitions
and MeSH terms used were military personnel, parent, parenting, child rearing, veteran, and parent
child intervention. Inclusion criteria for this review consisted the study needed to be original research
addressing parenting aspects of military connected families and their children with preschool children
as the part or central focus of the sample, or testing an intervention study that addressed these
concepts. Exclusion criteria consisted of omitting studies of military connected families without
preschool children, and non English language and non US military samples. After determining the
inclusion and exclusion criteria, the terms were entered into PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, PsychInfo,
Web of Science, and EMbase for the years 2001 2014, yielding over 11,800 records. Further search
within the reference lists and bibliographies of the analyzed studies and previous review articles on
similar subjects revealed two additional studies that were included in the final review. This resulted in
21 published studies meeting criteria. Please see figure 1 for details of research synthesis method.

Research Paper On Balanitis
Balantiis Balanitis is characterized by inflammation of the end of the penis, or the glans. Often, the
foreskin is also inflamed. There are several causes which involve bacterial and candidiasis infections,
sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), diabetes, phimosis, poor hygiene, skin conditions or irritation. It
can occur at any age but most commonly affects young boys under 4 years old and uncircumcised
men. It is uncommon in men who have been circumcised. Symptoms of balanitis include irritation,
redness, and soreness of the end of the penis, or the glans. It ranges from a small localized area of
redness confined to superficial skin surface, to the entire glans becoming red, swollen and painful.
There may also be a clumpy, thick, discharge beneath the foreskin. In some instances, it is impossible
to retract the foreskin or the patient may have painful urination. ... Show more content on

With identification of the condition, it can easily be treated with antibiotics. If the condition is difficult
to treat, a sample can be taken to identify the causative agent, allergy testing, assess for diabetes, refer
to urologist or skin specialist. Treatment of balanitis may include antibiotics, antifungals, antifungal or
steroid creams depending on the cause. Antibiotics treat infections that are caused by bacteria,
including STDs. Steroid creams can be used as an supplement to antifungal or antibiotic medication to
decrease inflammation caused by infection. Steroid creams reduce inflammation that are caused by

Characteristics InStreet Scene, By Ian Frazier
Narrative Assignment
Narrative writers use many different techniques to describe and enhance the theme and/or main idea of
their story. TO make the plot as realistic as possible, authors use imagery and other figurative
language to help the reader better imagine the story. Hyperboles, metaphors, and irony can also be
used to prove a point and make the story more humorous or suspenseful.
3 Stories Using these Characteristics
The narrative Street Scene by the author Ian Frazier uses vivid imagery and excellent dialogue to help
better immerse the reader in the story. A great example of this would be when he describes the people
helping save the victim in a very detailed way, proven by the quote; A slight, brown haired woman
was giving her mouth to mouth resuscitation, while a well built brown skinned man with hair close
cropped like a skullcap was performing chest massage. Using imagery like this can allow the reader to
feel like they are in the action, and imagine the situation in their head exactly how it is told in the
story.
Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell uses imagery as well, describing not only his surrounding but
his thoughts in superb detail as well. He also uses suspense techniques to keep the reader interested in
the story. One such example of him describing his thoughts in detail would be . I thought then and I
think now that his attack of must was already passing off; in which case he would merely wander
harmlessly about until the mahout came

Egalitarianism In The 1700s
Starting in the late 1700s there has been an adjustment in the various countries of the Middle East and
North Africa. It is a known fact that in these areas there is a hierarchy of tribal, ethnic, familial;
despite the weakening of the traditional social framework and the erosion of the status of the
traditional tribal, ethnic, and religious notables. While this is still true to this day there have been
many changes from the 1700s to the second colonial areas that have brought about new political
identities particularly the idea of nationalism and egalitarian ideology.
Reformers in Tunisia, Egypt, and the Ottoman Empire tried to institute constitutional reforms but the
economic collapse made this impossible. Many of the states thought that with the acquisition of
technology from Europe there would be revolutions and states ... Show more content on

However, this was not the case many states became impoverished and weak, and the governments had
to become even more reliant on European intrusion. (Rogan, 103) The idea of egalitarianism or
egalitarian ideology became important particularly in Tunisia. This idea came from the Sadiqi College
where young intellectual elites would be studying and benefited from the exposure to Western ideas.
Bashir Sfar believed that the French could benefit the lives of the Tunisians through rural colonization.
However, this idea did not get implemented and the official colonization left Sfar bitter and angry.
Sfar wrote about how France is a wealthy nation and can finance the installation of its citizens without
having to condemn anyone to starvation or flight. (Perkins, 60)

Voltaire, Denis Diderot, And Jean-Jacques Rousseau
The Enlightenment was a period of mass introduction of new ideas, high in intellect, for the purpose
of social growth. People s views on issues were greatly influenced by the philosophes of that time.
People started believing that all men were equal, and thus deserved equal treatment. Some of the
philosophes who greatly influenced this period were Voltaire, Denis Diderot, and Jean Jacques
Rousseau. These men were critical thinkers who analyzed how society was run, and proposed better
ways in which the world could operate. Though these men were high on intellect, they had similar
world changing views, and all believed that man was free and this freedom should not be taken away.
They still had some ideas that differed, but never diminished their ... Show more content on

Though questioning the authority at this time was deemed forbidden, he still argued against authority
and status quo. He said No man has received from nature the right to command his fellow human
beings. His propositions exploited principles such as freedom of press, trade, toleration, reason, and
education. His ideas were revolutionary. For example, he made some very famous quotes like: Power
acquired by violence is only usurpation, and lasts only as long as the force of him who commands
prevails over that of those who obey, and Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with
the entrails of the last priest. Diderot rose up against the doctrine that stated the right of a prince to
hold power over others because it was God s will. His lifework, the Encyclopedia was a powerful
weapon against ecclesiastical and governmental institutions. He urged people to liberate themselves
through reason. His views were in line with those of Rousseau and Voltaire, only that he was
extremely humanitarian and expressed support for social and political reforms. In all his dealings, he
placed knowledge above the dogmas of the church, thus concurring with Voltaire and Rousseau on the

Summary Of Killing The Rising Sun
Killing the Rising Sun by Bill O Reilly and Martin Dugard is a descriptive, well written book
wrapping up the end of World War II. Reading this book makes you feel like you are living in the
midst of the vividly depictive and picturesque scenes that O Reilly and Dugard bring the reader back
to imagine in this book. I really enjoyed this book and I think it really helped me to capture what
happened during World War II and the hardships and trials that the United States went through to
defeat Japan in one of the most decisive naval battles of World War II. I hope that in this essay I can
achieve half of what the authors achieved in writing this book.

Taking place on the island of Peleliu, these men went through horrific things and needed an incredible
amount of physical and mental strength to push themselves to fight. Throughout the book, there are
many circumstances that seem to have happened that the authors describe very vividly with specific
details. Although these scenes may be hard for the viewer to imagine actually happening, there is such
great description of the events that makes you want to keep reading more about the things that these
men went through during battle. The book describes men committing suicide with their swords and
chopping off heads and it can be hard to imagine someone doing that. Personally, I really think you
can gather a good understanding that this war in the Pacific was one of the deadliest battles in history
from the examples from the book of things that were everyday events for these people. There were
more than forty million fallen men by the time the war was over and the Japanese committed many
abhorrent acts toward their prisoners. They would deprive them of food, shelter, medical necessities,
and many other vital resources needed to survive a time like World War

The Cost Effectiveness Of A Drug Or Treatment
Rising healthcare costs are a growing concern among individuals, employers, and the federal
government. The national conversation on how to best control those costs has forced many drug
manufacturers to reevaluate the economics of new, expensive drugs and therapies. Now more than
ever, the need to evaluate outcomes and costs associated with alternative treatments has never been
greater.
Understanding the cost effectiveness of a drug or treatment can be a challenge. Clinical trials are
traditionally performed on subsets of the population in tightly controlled environments for a relatively
short time. They are primarily responsible for evaluating treatment efficacy. But pressure to control
healthcare costs has increased the emphasis on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chance nodes (circles) depict the possible consequence positive or negative of the decision. They are
referred to as transition states. Transition probabilities are assigned to each transition state and they
must always sum to one. Triangles indicate the point at which the analysis ends and the health impact
and/or costs of each consequence is quantified. When decision tree analysis is done at the same time
as the clinical trial, the payoff may also be expressed as utilities. Utility can be described in numerous
ways. For example, as a percentage of full health. A value of 0.7 corresponds to a person living at 70%
of full health. Another way to express utility is quality adjusted life years (QALY). Expected value of
each therapy is calculated by multiplying the payoff (dollars, percent, QALYS etc.) with the
probability of occurrence for every possible transition state.
While decision trees are simple to comprehend, complicated real world scenarios cannot be
adequately modeled with basic decision tree analysis. The tree cannot model repetitive events or
transitions back and forth between two states. To model repetitive events or transitions backward
would require numerous repetitive transition states. Trying to create a path for every possible scenario
can quickly lead to a complicated, unmanageable decision tree.
Another inherent limitation of decision tree analysis is its stagnant nature. Model conditions, such as
transition probabilities or costs, are not

  • 2. The Main Goal Of An Artist Similar to all great writers and innovators, the main goal of an artist is to spark a creative perspective in the audience. Sarah Ruhl s oddly blunt play, Eurydice, was meant to open up our minds and create an outlook that has never been achieved before. Her intent was to keep us on our toes and read between the lines in order to find the hidden truths in each line. The simplicity of the script was meant to be a little strange and dull, but by doing this Ruhl entered a realm of playwriting that has not been accomplished before. Usually, in the performances we watch we are bombarded with long, complex sentences that leave the audience confused. The vocabulary used is always either outdated or too complicated for many people to understand quickly. However, in this place Ruhl took the opposite approach and chose short and simple sentences, leaving more room for interpretation. By making each line somewhat awkward and dull, Ruhl engages the audiences attention in order to make sense of the words. Many factors could have motivated Ruhl to write her play in such fashion. For example, when I was reading the play I connected her style of writing to artists and poets of the 1960 s, like Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison, who had such a beautiful yet simple play on words. Her outlandish sentences probably made no sense to someone with a closed mind, this related directly to how the Dylan and Morrison were perceived in their time as well. Many people didn t understand or allow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. National Security Requirements Exercised The Most... National security requirements exercised the most significant influence on the development of airpower in Europe and the United States before the Second World War (WWII). Nations on both sides of the ocean had experienced the multifaceted disastrous results of World War I (WWI) and airpower seemed to be the answer for future wars. Understanding the context and consequences of WWI is vital to comprehend airpower theorists like Douhet, Mitchell and Trenchard and their revolutionary thoughts on airpower. The development of aircraft at the beginning of the twentieth century challenged not only military leadership but also, more important, the national security of modern states. The basic question was: How will strategic bombing of enemy territory fit in to national security and military strategy? This paper will narrow the view on Europe by selecting Great Britain as one of the most relevant nations in WWII concerning strategic bombing. WWI was the first total war in the industrial age with unprecedented casualties on all sides of the belligerent nations. In spite of gigantic troop numbers, both sides expected a quick war with a decisive victory. However, in 1915, the maneuvering part of the war was over and resulted ultimately in bloody trench warfare. Furthermore, as the war continued, attrition of the adversary became the main goal as the battle at Verdun highlighted. Consequently, aircraft offered an alternative to the static warfare of the trenches. These newly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How The Low Income Of Countries Such As Chad And Papua New... Introduction This report is to help introduce the low income of countries such as Chad and Papua New Guinea, and comparing them to a country such as Sweden who has no income. For years, certain countries, as the two listed above cannot maintain a lifestyle with the incomes that are available to them. Using incomes will help to see where the problem is occurring and how it might be approached to aid the countries. Reporting on the countries will give insight into a historical background including independence of the countries, along with education, literacy, life factors, and poverty by using the GINI to show how wide the gaps can be and become. Historical Background In 1946 Chad became an Overseas Territory of France and on August 11, 1960 obtained independence, but short lived, because of a tyrant dictator, Francois Tombalbaye, who never really released them from his grip, and Chad had been in a civil war, until 1990 when Idriss Deby, a military commander, took control and with his rule, multi party politics has returned to Chad, giving some freedoms back to its citizens (Chad s long road to independence, 2010). Papua New Guinea was under the government of Australia, and the UN pushed Australia to give Papua New Guinea independence and help create a group that would be able to run a government through social and educated influences. On September 16, 1975 Papua New Guinea obtained their independence with a monarchy ruled by Queen Elizabeth II as head of state represented ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Over the years, I have come to realize that the greatest trap in our life is not success, popularity, or power, but self rejection, Henry J.M Houwen once stated. • 6. Longfellow Vs Keats Both poems are sonnets that focus on early death; however, each poet displays different emotions for life and death in their poems. On the one hand, Keats displays an optimistic view of life, but is contemptuous towards death since it will mark an unwanted end to his artistic, romantic, and countless other endeavors. On the other, Longfellow distrusts life and fears death. As an indicator of these contrasting sentiments, the poets not only use significantly different types of poems, but they also differ in their rhetorical devices purposes in the shared iambic pentameter structure. In particular, they use imagery, diction, mechanical devices and metaphors in varying extents and purposes. Keats Elizabethan sonnet contains vivid, buoyant imagery ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both openings, each poet recognizes the ephemeral element of life. Keats fears that he may cease to be, while Longfellow reflects, half of life is gone (Keats 1; Longfellow 1). Through diction, this trend becomes evident. For example, Keats uses the words, Huge cloudy symbols, and shadows, indicating almightiness and transcendence (Keats 6, 8). Longfellow too recognizes nature s power, going even further, capitalizing the words Past and Death (Longfellow 9, 14). Such capitalization is done out of respect for the power of these words, and further, as a reiteration that the present is determined by the past and the future. In effect, Longfellow realizes that the present is the morphed version of the past and the future, and thus gives no capitalization, or significance, to it. Keats experiences the opposite. He very much endorses the attitude of carpe diem, trying to move on from the past only to be greeted by the grim face of death. By the end of the poem, each poet describes similar circumstances. Keats approaches a shore, while Longfellow ascends a hill to contemplate life. They differ, however, as Keats views a wide world replete with literary repute and love, but realizes it is nothingness in the bigger picture (Keats 13 14). Thus, he pursues what remains of his opportunities, despite knowing his human insignificance. Conversely, Longfellow sees the gleaming lights of an idyllic past with a waterfall of death that will haunt him now and what remains of his future (Longfellow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Australia s Economic Success And Growth Rates Economic Background: In the past two decades, the Australian economy has been, and continues to be a very strong and steady economy because of steady GDP growth rates, with an average around 3.5% annually (Heritage.org). Australia has also benefitted from considerably low inflation and unemployment rates. Because of these macroeconomic values, Australia is ranked third in the ranking of regional economies (Heritage.org). The reasons for Australia s ongoing success is mainly because of the boom in foreign demand of importing the plethora of natural resources and minerals the country contains, combined with the structural economic policies enacted in the 1980 s (The Economist Australia s Economy). The largest slice of Australia s exports go to China, exporting around 31.6% of its total exports, making China Australia s biggest benefactor to its economy (DFAT). Although the exports mainly consist of the titanic amount of minerals that Australia mines, China also imports large quantities of wool, another heavily traded commodity of Australia. One of the leading wool industries, the Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) has said it is easier to sell fine wool for clothes to China than to traditional recession hit markets in Europe (The Economist Hitched to the China Wagon). The exportation of wool in conjunction with the exportation of minerals and ore to China makes China a strong partner with Australia when it comes to resource trading. China obviously is dependent on Australia s exportations, making Australia s relations with China a strength of the overall Australian economy. The Australian economy however, is clearly just as dependent on China s demand for such commodities. Although Australia greatly benefits from China s demand in its exports, Australia needs to make sure the trade relations between them don t act as a crutch for the Australian economy. Recent studies and articles predict China s demand for Australian goods will be shifting leftward in the near future, possibly impacting Australia s economy, and putting it into a recession. Second, human mobility modeling is reproduce patterns about human mobility activities, and the reason why modeling human mobility is it can help to solve a lot of problems. These problems are very important in nowadays. For example, traffic forecasting can forecast traffic situation in different streets and give drivers the best path to destination. Urban planning can help improving the urban areas. Epidemics modeling can predicate how epidemics such like flu moved and how to control it. Then Mr. Filho introduced the two different levels of human mobility. The first one we call it individual level, which is a micro level. It is about an individual s activities, such like what places he/she visits in a week. But in the other hand is the population level, which is a macro level. Baroque architecture followed renaissance art from the Middle Ages. The many aspects of this style make it feel as if it is going against the norm. In which we have our maxims are a fraction of our actions and it turns into a universal law. In this essay, I shall explain what Kant means by I can also will that my maxim should become a universal law (Prompt). Also, how it corresponds to the first proposition, that Kant states, which is an action must be from moral duty. I will provide an example of this proposition taking place. Summary: Emmanuel Kant has three propositions of morality. One of the propositions is that in order to have moral worth, an action must be from a moral duty. The second proposition is that action whether the action is in accord with duty has been done from duty or from some selfish purpose is easy (Cahn 76). The third proposition is that action accord with duty and the subject has in addition an immediate inclination to do the action (Cahn 76). Each one of the propositions has a different distinct and they are connected to morality. There are several actions that can be done out of duty, while others can be done out of desire. Each one of these two are used to determine if it s done in a moral way. Kant gives two examples, one example is about a self interested shopkeeper and the other is a reluctant benefactor. • 15. A Brief Note On Diabetes And Its Effects On Diabetes Essay Diabetes Policy This paper focuses on people with diabetes. Diabetes occurs when there is impaired ability by the pancreas to produce enough insulin, or the body loses its ability to utilize the insulin produced by pancreas effectively. Consequently, the body fails to regulate the level of glucose in the blood. The failure to control glucose leads to episodes of hyperglycemia, especially after a meal. Diabetes is one of the chronic conditions that account for the largest morbidity rates globally. According to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2015), approximately 29.1 million people living in the United States had diabetes. Out of this number, about 21.0 million people were diagnosed. The remaining 8.1 million cases were undiagnosed. According to the World Health Organization (2016), the prevalence of diabetes among adults aged over 18 years was 8.5% in 2014. The prevalence had increased from 4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014. The increased has been most significant among the middle and low income countries. This has mostly been explained by the changes in income distribution in those countries. In other words, the proportion of people who have had an increase of revenue has increased significantly in the middle and low income countries. People with diabetes lack the ability to regulate the level of glucose in the blood. Consequently, whenever they eat, their blood glucose level rises above the normal maximum limit leading to hyperglycemia. Poorly controlled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gender Wage Gap Lisda Lara Professor Akpo GOVT 2305 P50 August 4, 2016 Throughout our world s history we have seen many grievous instances where discrimination caused severely negative repercussions on how our society functions. The inequity demonstrated by our nation in the past has estranged its residents based on their religion, the color of their skin, their beliefs, and even their gender. With time, our community has become more accepting which has led to the abolishment of most, if not all, bigotry and racist beliefs. However, there is still an issue today that we have been facing for almost a century. This conflict has led to the prohibition of certain people obtaining a particular job in some cases, and the penalty of being paid less than her male colleagues if she were to obtain that job. The problem is sexism and its consequences. The consequences of this type of discrimination lead to unequal pay for the same kind of work. The American Association of University Women is releasing a new study that shows when men and women attend the same kind of college, pick the same major and accept the same kind of job, on average, the woman will still earn 82 cents to every dollar that a man earns (Coleman) . This embodiment originates from the very popular credence that men provide for women in a family environment and that the wives are the parent who care for the children at home, therefore making them more unfocused in their workplace, hence the belief ... • 17. The Argument of Dualism Essay In my mind, dualism is a more attractive view to take when considering the mind brain issue. The idea that the mind is a separate entity and that it is independent of the physical body is the central point of dualism. One reason it appeals to me is because of my religion, my Catholic upbringing. Introspection is another good reason why dualism is a little more logical to me than materialism.. It logically explains why the mind and brain are separate. Also, the divisibility argument raises good points to allow dualism to appear to be the more attractive idea in my eyes. Dualism claims that the mind is a distinct nonphysical thing, a complete entity that is independent of any physical body to which it is temporarily attached. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sure the brain has the actual chemical processes and functions, but the mind holds the reasoning behinds actions, and the complex feelings a person has. It is basically what makes a person who he is, and controls his actions as a person. The brain only tells the body to carry out these actions. I think that introspection is another good explanation for dualism being more attractive to me. Introspection was explained to be a sort of mental state, like when you know you have a desire for something to eat. If this occurs, one?s mind will tell his brain to make the body get up and get food to eat. I do not think that the brain is capable of having that feeling of hunger, there might be a reaction in the brain to the stomach being empty, but I believe the actual feeling is in the brain. A person has no way of knowing the actual brain process, it can not be felt. That is an act that can only take place in one?s mind. The actual wanting of food is going to be happening in the mind, not the brain. I think my mind is the focal point of desires and other feelings, the brain is just a device which the mind uses to carry out its wishes. A third argument for dualism is paranormal phenomena. Mental powers such as telepathy, precognition, telekinesis, and clairvoyance are all near impossible to explain within the boundaries of the physical brain. • 19. A Study On The Mammalian Diving Reflex Introduction: The mammalian diving reflex represents a primary physiological mechanism to maximize underwater excursions in air breathing animals. Traditionally, the oxygen conserving reflex consists of three metabolic and cardiovascular adjustments: (1) notable bradycardia; (2) selective peripheral vasoconstriction; and (3) increased blood flow to the viscera (Kawakami et al., 1967). Previous studies have observed such a response in birds and mammals, generalizing the considerable reduction of heart rate, or diving bradycardia, as indicative of the response (Butler, 1982). The evolutionary success of these diving animals relies partly on the functional significance of reducing metabolic demands to prologue underwater survival. Although ... Moreover, Gooden (1994) describes apnea as an essential element to the diving reflex; it ensures not only the prevention of water inhalation, but also acts as an energy saving device through decreasing nerve stimulation to the diaphragm and intercostals. Therefore, heart rate will be monitored under both experimental conditions and compared to the resting rate and apneic resting rate. As a profound autonomic phenomenon, further establishment of the diving reflex in humans will shed light on the preservation of the reflex and its role in the survival during near drowning experiences. Only by examining the physiological response in humans can we appreciate the evolutionary significance of this innate neural circuitry. Methods: An untrained 22 year old male human subject was chosen. A PT 104 pulse plethysmograph was wrapped around his dominant (right) index finger. Connected through a IXTA data acquisition unit, heart rate was monitored on LabScribe. • 20. Capsaicin and the Stomach Essay Almost everyone is told that consuming capsaicin causes stomach problems, but the opposite is true. What is capsaicin? Capsaicin is found in chili peppers which originated in Latin America; due to it pungent flavor was traded by Spanish and Portuguese explorers during the sixteenth century to Europe and Asia and is now one of the essential spices in the world. Chili peppers have been used for centuries in the seasoning of food, but recently, scientists have started using it for medical purposes. Many speculate that capsaicin helps improve and treat various health problems, some as simple as headaches to cancer and that it can promote blood circulation, maintain weight loss, and prevent the deterioration of the lining of the stomach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The real culprits are bacteria called Helicobacter pylori, most commonly known as H. pylori, aspirin, alcohol, stress, excessive acid secretion in the stomach, the reduction in gastric mucous blood flow and anti inflammatory medicine. H. pylori are bacteria that significantly contribute to the formation of gastric ulcers as they promote the secretion of acid and deteriorate the mucus in the stomach and when capsaicin is consumed it kills the bacteria. Also in a study conducted by a researcher, two groups of volunteers with normal stomach linings were given aspirin to take daily, the control group was just given the aspirin while the experimental group was given aspirin and water with chili powder, the results were that the control group had the most deterioration of the stomach mucus. It seems that capsaicin slows acid secretion and promotes the production of mucus secretion. Mucus protects the lining of the stomach and when a person suffers from gastric ulcers it is because their mucus production is low and they secret too much acid, which eats away at the stomach s lining. Although many scientists believe that capsaicin helps the stomach, others opinions differ, like in any scientific study. These opposing scientists believe that capsaicin actually is a carcinogen, which means that when used internally causes cancerous cells to form. In some experiments, rats treated with capsaicin formed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Fighter Interceptor Wing Introduction Just shortly, after the end of World War II the United States Air Force realized they needed a fighter jet to replace the highly popular P 51 Mustang. North American Aviation Corporation was granted the contract to build these medium range, single seat, high altitude, multi purpose fighter jet/bombers. There were over 6,000 of the jets produced between the two facilities in Los Angeles, California and Columbus, Ohio. This plane was the first United States jet fighter with swept wings, which allowed it to unofficially break the sound barrier on 1 October 1947. As the technology advanced in China and North Korea the MiG 15 came in to play and was far more superior than the piston engine aircraft the United States and UN forces were flying. One of the most significant things about the MiG 15 is that with its superiority over the P 51 Mustang the United States Air Force had to keep all of the B 29 Superfortress grounded due to the lack of security. The B 29 Superfortress had been a major game changer in World War II. The B 29 was designed for the high altitude strategic bomber role. One of the B 29 s final roles during World War II was carrying out the atomic bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After the F 86 Sabre was introduced in Korea, they patrolled the area just south of the Yalu, the so called Mig Alley, in long figure eights, always turning towards the north to keep from being surprised. The F 86 Sabre s and the MiG s were evenly matched. Both had 6,000 pound thrust jet engines, and could go supersonic in a dive. The MiG was smaller, and it could climb higher and faster. The Sabre was faster in level flight and in a dive, had a greater range, and could turn tighter in a fast dive. The Sabre carried six 50 caliber machine guns, while the MiG relied on a single 37 mm and two 23 mm cannon. • 26. Characteristics InStreet Scene, By Ian Frazier Narrative Assignment Narrative writers use many different techniques to describe and enhance the theme and/or main idea of their story. TO make the plot as realistic as possible, authors use imagery and other figurative language to help the reader better imagine the story. Hyperboles, metaphors, and irony can also be used to prove a point and make the story more humorous or suspenseful. 3 Stories Using these Characteristics The narrative Street Scene by the author Ian Frazier uses vivid imagery and excellent dialogue to help better immerse the reader in the story. A great example of this would be when he describes the people helping save the victim in a very detailed way, proven by the quote; A slight, brown haired woman was giving her mouth to mouth resuscitation, while a well built brown skinned man with hair close cropped like a skullcap was performing chest massage. Using imagery like this can allow the reader to feel like they are in the action, and imagine the situation in their head exactly how it is told in the story. Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell uses imagery as well, describing not only his surrounding but his thoughts in superb detail as well. He also uses suspense techniques to keep the reader interested in the story. One such example of him describing his thoughts in detail would be . Chance nodes (circles) depict the possible consequence positive or negative of the decision. They are referred to as transition states. Transition probabilities are assigned to each transition state and they must always sum to one. Triangles indicate the point at which the analysis ends and the health impact and/or costs of each consequence is quantified. When decision tree analysis is done at the same time as the clinical trial, the payoff may also be expressed as utilities. Utility can be described in numerous ways. For example, as a percentage of full health. A value of 0.7 corresponds to a person living at 70% of full health. Another way to express utility is quality adjusted life years (QALY). Expected value of each therapy is calculated by multiplying the payoff (dollars, percent, QALYS etc.) with the probability of occurrence for every possible transition state. While decision trees are simple to comprehend, complicated real world scenarios cannot be adequately modeled with basic decision tree analysis. The tree cannot model repetitive events or transitions back and forth between two states. To model repetitive events or transitions backward would require numerous repetitive transition states. Trying to create a path for every possible scenario can quickly lead to a complicated, unmanageable decision tree. Another inherent limitation of decision tree analysis is its stagnant nature.
