Review Of Claude Debussy s The Piano
Achille Claude Debussy, commonly known as Claude Debussy, is one of the world s most famous
Classical composers. His extreme talent at the piano is undeniable, and his life story is fascinating.
Debussy was able to grow as an artist throughout his lifetime and continue this recognition long past
his death. By creating a new and beautiful sound with the piano, Debussy was able to become one of
the greatest composers of all time within the classical period that has lead to all different types of
people from all different eras to appreciate his work.
Debussy was born on August 22, 1862, in the town of Saint Germain en Laye, France. Debussy was
the oldest of five children, where growing up in the suburbs of Paris, his family was quite poor.
Although his family was poverty stricken, along with neither of his parents being musicians, Debussy
was able to begin playing the piano at age seven and started to gain success at the age of nine. One of
his teachers, Madame Maute de Flerville, who also taught the Polish composer Frederic Chopin
(Lockspeiser), was able to provide Debussy with great knowledge and skill of the piano. Then at the
age of only eleven, Debussy enrolled in the Paris Conservatory where he was able to express his
musical talent and knowledge. At the conservatory, in addition to the artists studying their instrument,
performers received training in music theory and harmony, and participated in ensembles (Jensen 9).
Debussy s musical talent benefited greatly from

Essay on A Study of Epistemology
A Study of Epistemology
In the sixth century B.C., Homer alludes to a separation of knowledge between the mortals and the
gods. He speaks of both gods and human beings as knowing things creatures of knowledge. However,
there is a great difference in the quality and the scope of the knowledge available to the two groups
(Everson, Pg.12). For the mortal human being the contrast between divine and human knowledge ,
paired with possible deception by the gods, has led him to question the idea of knowledge as it exists
independently, reminding him that there are many things he cannot know for certain (Everson, Pg. 13).
Epistemology, as it exists today, is a branch of philosophy that studies knowledge in an attempt ...

1).
The development of empiricism has fashioned a present model that is widely used today: the reflection
correspondence theory. The premise behind this ideology states knowledge results from a mapping of
external objects that are related to the brain through sensory organs (Heylighen, Pg. 2). Reflection
correspondence understands man will never reach an absolute state of knowledge, but somehow this
inability to distinguish reality from illusion, illustrates thought as a limit of ever more precise
reflections of reality (Heylighen, Pg. 2). Therefore thought, as a physical product of nature, is in itself
a limiting trait.
Another significant theory developed in this period is known as the Kantian synthesis of rationalism
and empiricism. Kant pictured knowledge as emerging from the human organization of perceptual
data on the basis of inborn cognitive structures known as categories (Heylighen, Pg. 2). His belief
parallels, to some extent, that of evolutionary epistemology, which assumes knowledge is constructed
by the subject, or social group as a means of adapting to their environment.
This construction happens through blind variation , or what is understood as the correlation of
different already existing pieces of knowledge. These pieces , or categories (according to Kant), are
selectively retained in combinations that

Prodigal Son Vs Jesus
Annette Simmons once said, If you wish to influence and individual or a group to embrace a particular
value in their daily lives, tell them a compelling story. The book Great Expectations by Charles
Dickens and the biblical Parable of the Prodigal Son hold some similarities. They do, however, hold
distinct differences. The differences between Great Expectations and the Parable of the Prodigal Son
can be traced back to the purpose of the authors. The differences are evident though the authors
purpose, the plot, and the main characters in both works. The main reason that Great Expectations and
the Parable of the Prodigal Son are so different, is the intent of the original authors. Dickens wrote
Great Expectations as a social commentary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of Great Expectations seven year old Pip meets an escaped convict in the graveyard
one night. The convict is recaptured, but it remains something Pip dwells on for the rest of his life.
Several years later an elderly woman named Miss Havisham and her adopted daughter Estella invite
Pip to visit. Estella berates Pip for being common. Following this encounter, Pip is unhappy with his
life until he is told some unnamed benefactor has given Pip a fortune. Pip is whisked away to London
where he wastes his money and finds himself in debt. In the parable, the story begins with the son
receiving his inheritance from his father. The son then leaves home for a distant country. In this
foreign country, he squandered his inheritance on a life of dissipation (Luke 15:13). Pip lives in
London for several years until he discovers his benefactor is the convict he met in the graveyard. Pip
tries to helps the convict, Magwitch, escape from the police, but Magwitch is captured. As a result, Pip
looses his fortune. In the parable the son simply runs out of money just as a famine strikes the land.
He tries to make a living taking care of the swine. In the book Pip returns home briefly to make
amends with Joe and Joe s wife Biddy, then returns to London to make an honest living with his friend
Herbert. The son in the parable decides to return home in hopes that his father will hire him as a
worker. His father instead greets him with open arms and declares this son of mine was dead, and has
come to life again; he was lost, and has been found (Luke 15:24). Pip in Great Expectations and the
son in the Parable of the Prodigal Son may appear to be similar, but they are still different. Pip begins
the story with low self esteem due to his harsh

Nonviolent Civil Disobedience
I believe that peaceful resistance to laws positively impacts a free society. It gives citizens the right to
protest against what they believe is wrong without the use of violence. Although it is not right to
purposefully break the law it is better to break the law in a peaceful way rather than in a way that
could bring harm to other people. Civil disobedience commonly has to do with laws that conflict with
people s moral beliefs. Gandhi used nonviolent civil disobedience to protest racial laws in South
Africa and in India s struggle for independence. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and others made civil
disobedience a main turning point of the Civil Rights Movement. They defied the Jim Crow laws
through sit ins, boycotts, and protests.

Emergency Planning And Community And Emergency Preparedness
Introduction In the recent past, disasters such as the massive fire that erupted from a hotel in Dubai s
Torch tower on the new Year s Eve, earthquakes in countries like India, China and Japan that led to
thousands of deaths and destruction of manufacturing companies, as well as hurricaneshave raised
concern about the safety of workplaces. Some disasters such as floods and winter storms can be
predicted early enough, while others, such as earthquakes, terror attacks and collapse of buildings
have very little time for preparation. Emergency planning involves the process of identifying the
potential hazardous situations that would compromise the safety and security, or make an emergency
situation worse, and trying to minimize such conditions in advance in the attempt to reduce the
severity of the emergency. In the United Kingdom, part one of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004
provides the guidelines for preparedness of organizations. A similar law, known as the Emergency
Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA) also exists in the United States. This
document will address the roles of an emergency planner in emergency preparedness. Stages Of
Preparedness Cycle Mitigation Mitigation is the most important step of the preparedness process, and
it involves the attempt to prevent hazardous conditions from growing into disasters altogether, or to
minimize the effects of disasters in case they occur (Cahfdisasterprep.com, 2016). The process looks

Essay about Infection Control
Nosocomial infections refers to infections acquired during hospitalization, with symptoms usually
occurring within forty eight hours after admission. The origin of nosocomial infections can be
attributed to the following: Bacterial flora already present in the patient; Microorganisms from the
environment through transmission from: carriers colonized at admission, admitted to wards without
undergoing surveillance, isolation or eradication of the germ(s); patients who have developed the
infection but who have not been isolated;contact with contaminated objects and surfaces; medical

The increase in infection related health activity is the result of a gradual increase in specific risk
factors such as antibiotic pressure and the greater complexity of patients conditions. Despite their
strong impact, both socially and economically, the surveillance systems and programs currently
deployed for the prevention of nosocomial infections are quite dishomogeneous and, in many
situations, do not exist at all. There are two main discriminating factors in this critical situation. The
first relates to the chronic lack of funds for a serious policy of prevention, particularly in terms of an
effective screening process. The second concerns the lack of accurate knowledge and widespread
awareness on the part of health care operators who are apparently unable to see the problem, in its
complexity, as a factor that impacts on all health care processes, be that at regional or hospital level.
Another crucial element to consider is the emergence of bacterial strains resistant to antibiotics, given
the widespread use of these drugs as a prophylactic or a therapeutic regimen. Main Body i) How
MRSA relates to the disease symptoms Non specific resistance, to an invading organism, or pathogen,
is a defence mechanism the body employs to protect itself from attack (Tortora and Grabowski 1996).

The fabric of her dress ripping was loud in the closed room, accompanied only by the sound of his
heavy breathing, and those which came from her. His eyes burned into hers, still containing an

The Bastard Out Of Carolina
Bastard out of Carolina is a novel which examines the expectation of a mother child relationship, child
maltreatment and gender roles. It is based on the narrative of Ruth Anne Bone Boatright who grows
up in rural Greenville County, South Carolina in the 1950 s and 60 s. Bone s 15 year old mother,
Anney Boatright, conceived Bone out of wedlock after being injured in a car accident which
ultimately led to an illegitimate stamp on Bones birth certificate. Bone was raised in a very
disadvantaged part of town. In an attempt to make sense of the chaotic and confusing dark world she
lives in, she looked at her extended non traditional family for support (grandmother, Aunts, uncles and
cousins). Circumstances regarding socio economic status, gender, race, sexuality and child
maltreatment play out in Bone s life as well as in her relationships with others throughout the novel.
The focus is on Bone s relationship with her mother Anney, the abuse that Bone endured from Anney s
second husband Glen Daddy Glen Waddell and Anney s attempt to deal with the abuse she eventually
witnessed herself. Bone endured maternal neglect from Anney as Anney ignored the long term abuse
and ultimately ran away with the abuser to continue a relationship. Even after several witnessed
beatings, Anney would allow her love for Glen overpowers her need to protect and love Bone. Bone
was also a victim of physical, psychological and sexual abuse. After a couple of years into the

Schenck V. United States (1919)
Schenck vs. United States is a Supreme Court Case from 1919, in which Charles T. Schenck was
charged and convicted of being in violation of the Espionage Act. The Espionage Act, passed in 1917,
was the effort of Congress and President Woodrow Wilson, to protect national security during World
War I. At the start of the war, there was a strong sense of national pride to fight, however, groups who
opposed the war still remained. According to (Belknap, Schenck vs. US), the Espionage Act addressed
the issue of national security through the press. It became illegal to falsify reports to aid an enemy,
rebel within the armed forces, and obstruct military recruitment. The following year the Sedition Acts
of 1918 were passed, which made it illegal during wartime to speak of, print, or write in the context of
disloyal or abusive language to the United States (Sedition Act was repealed in 1921). When these

Angeles, California. She, her unborn baby, three friends, and a visitor to the house were all shot or
stabbed that night, and found the next morning. The brutal murders were committed by the infamous

many pop culture references, appearing on American Horror Story: Cult, the comedy film Manson

This amendment covers cruel and unusual punishment, which many people argue the death penalty is.
The wording of the amendment states that excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines
imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted (Amendment VIII, U.S. Constitution). The
aforementioned loophole in this amendment, however, is that it does not specifically define what
punishments are, or are not, cruel and unusual.
Briefly, in the 1970s, the Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty in most states was unlawful
because it was being imposed in a discriminatory fashion. After this ruling, states had to change their
death penalty procedures to satisfy the Court that they impose the death penalty fairly (Gale Student

out since then. There are 19 states that have abolished the death penalty within their own state, which

Bacteria belongs to a group of organism that lacks cell nucleus and membrane bound organells. This
group of organisms are termed as prokaryotes. Prokaryotes follows the central dogma of molecular
biology first proposed by Francis Crick in 1958 to synthesize proteins from mRNA through a process
called translation and the mRNA is being synthesized from the DNA by another process called
Transcription. Temperature, nutrient availibity are some key factors that start the process of
synthesizing proteins in response to these key factors. Example. This paper will provide an

50S ribosomal subunits binds to the 30s ribosomal unit, giving rise to a complete 70s ribosome. Initial
factors(IF 1, IF 2, IF 3) are required for the formation of the initiation complex described above.
Once initiated, the polypeptide grows longer by covalently linking amino acids together. The ribosome
has 3 binding sites for binding tRNA, 1 the peptidyl site (P site), 2 aminoacyl site (A site) and the 3
exit site (E site). At the beginning of elongagion, the P site is filled with fMet tRNA, and the A and E
sites are empty. MRNA is bound to the ribosome in which its codon complement the anticodon of the
tRNA at the P site. TRNA with anticodon to the codon of mRNA at the empty A site is inserted. A
transpeptidation reaction occurs between the 2 amino acids carried by the tRNA, on the P and A site.
This reaction results in the transfer of the amino acid in the P site to the amino acid in the A site. The
ribosome now advances a distance of 1 codon and a new tRNA carrying the next amino acid moves
into the A site where its anti codon matches the codon of the mRNA. The ribosome again shift down
by a distance of 1 codon. As the shift occurs, the 2 amino acids on the tRNA in the P site are
transferred to the new amino acid and the 2nd tRNA is released at the E exit. This

It is not uncommon for those with bipolar order to experience insomnia. Up to 70% of individuals
with bipolar disorder experience periods of insomnia, which is associated with the risk of increasing
the possibility of a relapse occurring. Because the individual is only receiving approximately three
hours of sleep during a period of insomnia, the circadian rhythm cannot adapt to these irregular
changes, and can worsen the course of the relapse period (Harvey, Kaplan, Soehner, 2015). This lack
of rest required by the brain to function is highly likely to be the cause of Gerry s overactive mind,
especially during night and normal sleeping hours. Since Gerry is already involved and familiar with
cognitive behavioral therapy, I would suggest implementing another type of cognitive behavioral
therapy aimed towards improving insomnia (CBT I). CBT I trains people to use techniques that
address cognitive factors associated with insomnia, such as feeling as though the mind is racing, and is
used to help overcome the worry and other negative emotions associated with the inability to sleep
(Kaplan Harvey, n.d.). This type of CBT is also used as one of the initial lines of defense when
managing periods of insomnia, rather than first attempting to use medication to treat the issue. It is
designed to strengthen the association between sleep and the environment where sleep occurs, to
develop a consistent sleep wake schedule(Kaplan Harvey, n.d.). The steps for this type of therapy are
quite simple, and can be implemented with the help of Gerry s parents. Gerry should start out by only
using his bedroom for sleeping purposes. No homework should be done in the bedroom. He should
then be going to bed only when he is sleepy. Going to bed, or spending excessive amounts of time in

Redefining gender roles in North and south by Elizabeth Gaskell
North and south is considered as the significant piece of Victorian literature, written by Elizabeth
Gaskell. Elizabeth Gaskell was a novelist and short story writer. Her stories usually have a
contemporary attitude she emphasized more on the women s role, complex and realistic female
characters. North and south is considered as her best known work .It features a strong lead female ,a
mature love story and relevant social and political explanation about industrialization and class
conflict present in mid 19th century in England. Through, North and south, Elizabeth Gaskell
challenges the limiting gender roles of the Victorian era , by giving her heroin , Margaret both the
feminine qualities of virtue and selflessness and Masculine qualities of independence and action .
Gaskell perfectly balances her heroin between feminine and the masculine world as to not to appear
unwomanly and subtly influence the readers and call for changing gender norms. During Victorian era
novelist had to develop ways to avoid posing as threats to the order of the society . Something which

Olaudah Equiano Biography
Olaudah Equiano, also known by the name of Gustavus Vassa which was given to him by his master
on a slave ship, was born in the Eboe province of Africa in 1775 1776. Eboe was a part of the
kingdom of Benin which is now present day Nigeria. Equiano, like many others, lived in a village and
was kidnapped and sold into slavery. From the chains of enslavement to the freedom in London, he
believed that he and his countrymen deserved freedom and equality. Religion would have a huge
impact on Equiano s life as he converted to Christianity after having many near death experiences on
his voyages around the world. He also used religion to argue his case against slavery as he became
involved in the abolitionist movement in London in the late 18th century. Later in life, Equiano would
begin writing his autobiography The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, or
Gustavus Vassa, the African, Written by Himself and was published in 1789. The book would relive
Equiano s life in Eboe, he and his sister s capture and enslavement, the Middle Passage and the
horrors of slavery, his travels, and work as an abolitionist.

The Negative Effects Of Personal Devices In The Workplace
Allowing personal devices in the workplace can become an issue for some companies. In today s
world, technology has become problematic. Let s face it, we live in a world that will leave their money
at home before leaving their phones at home. New research conducted by British psychologists shows
that young adults use their smartphones roughly twice as much as they estimate that they do. In fact,
the small preliminary study found that these young adults used their phones an average of five hours a
day that s roughly one third of their total waking hours. (Gregoire, n.d.) As I discussed before the
negative impact/dependence of phones has gotten out of control. In my own opinion, allowing devices
at work to any associate other than a manager in the retail industry, fast food companies, railroad, and
restaurant companies, isn t worth the trouble. Can you imagine going into your favorite retail store and
the associate is distracted with their phones other than assisting you. The associate will give the
company bad morale, decrease productivity, and lack customer service skills. I work in a retail
industry and I am part of the management team, from my experience some associates can retain from
their phones and others simply cannot. I have an associate by the name of Orianna. Ori is categorized
under the new generation. She must stay connected to social media and urges to text her friend s other
than being focus at work. She takes unnecessary bathroom breaks to use her phone

Students waste plenty amount of time attempting to learn a topic if they are not provided with
guidance about what is truly important about the topic. Students come into the self study with
misconceptions; they will play the new information to fit into their current mental model, causing
negative training. They will also sometimes misinterpret new concepts as meaning something other
than the right meaning. Moreover, the students may not understand the topic well enough to determine
what is necessary and what is good to know. Self study has many issues because without guidance;
maybe students could not make the best way to learn. The instructor part in education is very
important which cannot be ignored. The instructor will introduce the topic, setting a good foundation
for which information that might be confusing, and clearly establishing what is important and what is
not. For example, when I was in the high school I had a question when I was studying for my exam.
Suddenly the weather changed and became dusty so the school was canceled. Therefore, I had to try to
figure out the answer by myself, but I missed it up. This was because the question that I did not

What is Quiznos s market share compared to Subway, and how much market share is available in the
sandwich segment globally?
Quiznos s biggest threat is that it competes with Subway s $5 foot long, Subway is successful due to
how it advertises itself also.(QSRweb, n.d) Quiznos competitive advantage is that it has way more
variety, from the sizes of their subs, to various different options and way zestier ingredients. As far as
market share they are a competitor in the fast food market. Their market share is very small compared
to Subway. Quiznos saw a fall in market share of over 50% which was from 5,000 to now only 2,100
stores. (QSRweb, n.d) Quiznos is now behind Subway the leader and Jimmy Johns at second. Subway
has over 40,000 stores globally so there is no comparison. (QSRweb, n.d) Quiznos did not only
struggle with Subway as far as pricing globally but also with the Jared campaign of 2000 that focused
on healthier foods pleasing the average consumer who are health conscious.
There is an increase in overall market share of the sandwich segment globally as it is said that
consumers are purchasing sandwiches away from home versus making them and taking them from
home, like the days of old. Consumer demand is there because of the need for lower prices, fresher

PURPOSE OF THE EXPERIMENT
Kinetics of Hydrogen Peroxide
The major purpose of this experiment is to determine the rate law constant for the reaction of
hydrogen peroxide and potassium iodide. In this experiment, the goal will be to try to measure the rate
law constant at low acidity, since at low acidity, anything less than 1.0 x 10 3M, the effect of the
hydrogen ion is negligible. To calculate the rate, the experiment will have to utilize the rate equation,
which is expressed as Rate = k[H2O2]a[I ]b. At low acidity, the rate of the Hydrogen ion will not
change, from our equation:

Once the timer starts, both group members are to watch for any reaction that occurs. The reaction
should yield a slight change in color. The appearing color will be light blue. Once a reaction is
noticeable, the timer is to stop the stopwatch and the group will record the time down in the following
data table. If the color you observe is a dark blue, then you have passed the reaction point and you
must start the experiment over.
The following data is the data that was collected in the lab. If you wish to see the calculations, please

Virginia Woolf Women
Virginia Woolf on Men and Women Colleges During Virginia Woolf s time, women are seen to be
inferior to men. She uses education as a way to highlight the differences. Woolf partakes in a luncheon
at each college. The meals are metaphorical devices that she uses to describe the poverty women s
colleges have and in comparison to the lavishness of a men s. Woolf s selection of detail is evident in
the way she describes the meals and sets a tone. The men s lunch is luxurious and rich as ...so relate it
to rice and tapioca would be an insult. Woolf uses this as a way to help the reader understand that the
meal was higher than a basic staple and to refer as such is an offense. The course also help describes
the tone of the men s college. The men s luncheon is ...profound, subtle. As the way the lighting is a

economics is the social science that analyzes the production, distribution and consumption of goods.
Freakonomics, the title of this book has the reader wondering what this book is about. From the title

have collected data and analyzed it to come to their conclusions on some unusual hypotheses. The

The study of incentives is how people get what they want, or need, especially when other people want
or need the same thing. (16) An incentive is simply a means of urging people to do more of a good
thing and less of a bad (17). An interesting concept the author points out is Morality, represents the
way that people would like the world to work whereas economics represents how it actually does
work (11). The authors several times oddly bring up that there is no unifying theme to the book, giving
the impression the book is not well thought out. Regardless, there are some things that tie the unusual
examples together, one being the theory of incentives as being the motivator. The other unifying
thread is that conventional wisdom is often wrong, that when looking at situations, layers need to be
peeled off and knowing what to measure and how to measure it allows for better understanding (12
13). The introduction is the last section of the book that doesn t leave the reader somewhat confused
regarding what they are reading, and if it really does relate to economics or is just quirky stories. It is
interesting to see the development of their theory about incentives, as they investigate what makes
something so attractive that sometimes people are willing to cheat and behave unethically to attain the
incentive. Levitt is able to support his hypothesis that incentives urge

Character Analysis Of Sketchy
The journey of a lifetime starts with the turning of a page (Anders). This means that as a book is read
new adventures come along as well as relationships with characters. The book Sketchy written by
Olivia Samms has a very interesting and unique plot. The main character, Beatrice Washington, has
just come out of rehab and is trying to stay drug free. She has also just moved to a new high school
and is trying to get settled there. Although a setback to her goal occurs when Willa Prescott, a girl
from the high school, is raped and left to die. Bea meets Willa in her art class and soon finds out she
had a rare and strange ability. Bea has the power to draw what people are thinking. She had read Willa
s mind and drawn the rapist, although Willa refused to admit that she remembered anything from the
night she was raped. Bea has a new goal in mind; bring justice to Willa and the families of the other
girls who had been murdered/raped. Only if she can convince the police to believe her, and have Willa
agree to who the rapist was. When Charlie reviewed the book Sketchy on goodreads.com, she was
very enthusiastic and rated the book very positively, focusing on character development. Charlie is
accurate in her assessment of the book because Beatrice is a very relatable character but is not the
typical teenager which is portrayed in most books; she is more down to earth.
Charlie left a positive review of the book, making many comments favoring the setup of character
development. She makes a remark saying nothing is so over the top to make it unbelievable and by
doing so, I believe a wide audience will be able to easily connect with the character . This helps
support the idea that the build up of character development can help increase the overall plot. It does
this because it states how Beatrice is a character portrayed as a rebellious teenager but it is not
extremely stereotypical and this helps the reader be more related to the story and feel as if he/she
could imagine themselves in this position. Charlie also notes that It adds a dimension that elevates a
good story to a great story . This is referring to the way the characters and supporting characters help

By definition, gaunt means lean or haggard, because of suffering or hunger. This can also apply to all

The Relationship Of A Young Working Class Hairdresser
When individuals are encountered with unintentional experiences, they are influenced to alter their
thoughts and attitudes. Within the play written by Willy Russell presents the relationship of a young
working class hairdresser, Rita who meets a retired university lecturer named Frank for the purpose of
her driving motivation to become more educated as she is bored with her ordinary life as a working
hairdresser. The poem was written in the context of 70 s England, and reflects the significant issues of
that time, such as an economic gloom, with widespread inflation, low productivity, militant trade
unionism and frequent strikes. Within the poem A life by Sylvia Plath is mainly a commentary poem
illustrating how an individual s life is split in two, one half revolving around society and the other half
symbolising anything outside of the conformist nature of society.
Throughout the play of Educating Rita, readers are first introduced to a university professor who is
searching for his hidden alcohol bottles in each section of his bookshelf. Being revealed to this
personal interest, readers are summoned to perceive Frank as a relaxed character. Jubilantly he moves

Women s Views On Women
In the United States, study after study continues to show that women have fewer opportunities to
advance in the workplace than men. These disadvantages are a result of society s views of women in
leadership positions and how women may view themselves in these roles. Women have been making
progress in terms of equality in pay and job positions, but significant gaps remain. Women who strive
to be promoted into higher levels of responsibility in their companies often meet resistance that
prevents them from achieving the goal of a senior or executive level of management. This barrier is
referred to as the glass ceiling and it is a controversial issue in our country today. The glass ceiling
called this because women are able to see the higher level positions, but can reach them because of an
intangible barrier. One can look at the Fortune 500 companies, which are the most successful
companies in the U.S. in terms of revenue to see how few women are in leadership positions. Clearly,
women are significantly underrepresented in these companies, as less than 5 percent of these
companies have female chief executive officers (CEO) today (Dockterman 105). Providing the
opportunity for women to move into management positions, like CEOs, would bring a unique talent
and a new perspective on how the company can operate to perform better (Buckalew 147). The glass
ceiling is a real obstacle that creates an intangible barrier that puts women at a disadvantage in
advancing in a company.

Requirements and issue management systems allow managers or leaders to classify and affiliate

Requirements set the stage for a project and issue management is an important process of identifying

improve relationships between IT and business partners to ensure project success (O Brien Marakas,
2011). IT used this tool to work collectively as a group and determine which project will give Shaw
Industries the best value. They divided the project into segments: 30 days to complete a series of tasks.

IT must have something to show during its effort, and if they deliver, this will promote a positive
relationship.
A healthy organization is one that involves people who are loyal to one another, never judges,
expresses genuine appreciation across their organizational structure, assists others with critical tasks
and never places blame on someone (Williams, 2013). When businesses make and keep promises, they
see strong trust and respect across the organization. If they often make commitments but fail to keep
them, people will see frustration and self starving behavior (Williams, 2013). Shaw Industries focused
on consistency to build a trusting relationship with their client. They delivered priorities by an explicit
deadline and in turn, trust was earned. A customer s ability to trust is dependent upon showing the
customer that your behavior is consistent and persistent over time. When a customer can predict your
behavior, that customer is more likely to trust you (James, 2012).
While the agile system was the popular choice for Shaw Industries, this certainly does not mean it is
the best choice for every organization. There are hundreds of Requirements and Issue Management
software available. SpiraTest, RequirementsHub, DevSpec, Gatherspace and Bugzilla are just a few
that are popular today (Top Requirements Management Software Products, 2015). Each has their own
set of tools and configurations to assist project managers. An effective issue management system

The Use Of Symbolism In Dandelion Wine By Ray Bradbury
I am Doug Spaulding. Ray Bradbury may have chosen Doug to be the twelve year old protagonist in
Dandelion Wine, but I am convinced that Bradbury took a pencil and paper to my childhood. Part of
the reason why Doug s character resonates with me so much stems from Bradbury s use of symbolic
language. Because symbolism leaves the audience to interpret the text s meaning, every reader draws a
different interpretation of the text based on his or her own personal experiences. By picturing the
experience associated with Bradbury s imagery, the reader gains a deeper understanding of the story.
Bradbury effectively utilizes symbolism in Dandelion Wine to aid the audience in perceiving the text s
significance and to impart the messages that form the novel s overall theme. Bradbury reveals Doug s
youthful nature in the form of animals, allowing the reader to visually imagine Doug s mental and
physical characteristics. After Doug becomes aware of his existence, Bradbury writes, Douglas, eyes
shut, saw spotted leopards pad in the dark (10). When Doug opens his eyes, Bradbury states, The
leopards trotted soundlessly off through darker lands where eyeballs could not turn to follow (10).
From a twelve year old s perspective, leopards seem like the fastest and scariest animals in the world.
The reader envisions the leopards and gathers that Doug s realization of his existence struck him
unexpectedly, leading him to be justifiably frightened. When Doug opens his eyes, the leopards

Essay on A clean well-lighted Place
Hemingway s short story, quot;A Clean Well lighted Place quot;, takes place at a cafe very late at
night. Two waiters are watching their last, lingering customer, an old man, who is by now very drunk.
The younger waiter s impatience and the older waiter s understanding toward the old man carry out
the theme of the story: quot;It [life] was all a nothing and a man was a nothing too. quot;(114) Man
must consequently find something to distract himself from his horrible truth. For the old man and the
older waiter, quot;a clean and well lighted quot; cafe is such an escape.
The pervading metaphor in this story is predictably, the quot;clean well lighted place. quot; The story s

The old man once had quot;youth quot;, quot;confidence quot;, quot;a job quot; and a wife. However,
by now, he has nothing but money, which is not able to comfort his loneliness; he has nothing but an
old body, which people think that it is nasty. His niece looks after him. But all they care about is his
money. The reason that they saved him from the suicide is the quot;fear for his should. quot;(111) The
older waiter sees the dark truth of life from the old man. Like the old man, he has stared into the Great
Nada, quot;...It [life] was all a nothing and a man was a nothing too... quot; (114) Unable to bear the
darkness of his world, the older waiter is quot;reluctant to close up because there may be some one
who needs the cafe quot; (113), as he wishes also to remain in the light.
In this short story, Hemingway expresses a completely nihilistic worldview: life is meaningless, and
filled with darkness. He believes that people shout find a method of coping with life s hardships in a
graceful, dignified manner. Like the elderly drinker, despite the obvious hardships in his life (since he
attempts suicide), he doesn t lose his cool, but finding his own way of exhibiting grace under pressure,
which is to drink in a clean and

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Over The Hedge
The author of Animating Revolt and Revolting Animation, Judith Halberstam, uses rhetorical
strategies to speak to her point that animated movies can be used to reach a wide ranging audience to
convey deep underlying messages in a way that is entertaining for all. The author points out how Pixar
movies brings non traditional characters to life and faces them against real life struggles but does so in
a happy ending manor that captivates audiences. This is accomplished by the author introducing a plot
line from a Pixar movie that illustrates a struggle or classic battle and then describes the characters
that are in the struggle and how they live through it. The author then describes an actual real life
struggle and relates it back to the animated movie. Judith Halberstam points out that the movie
Chicken Run illustrates how aggressive industrial businesses maximize profits above anything else or
businesses that have a partnership between owners and workers to maximize profits. What are we to

In this case, this movie shows simple folk who are invaded by modern society. When the creatures
awake from their hibernation they discover that while they were sleeping, a soulless suburban
development stole their woodland space and the humans have erected a huge partition, a hedge, to
fence them out (Halberstam 10). For the creatures who lived in the woods that were taken over by the
humans, the simple life is replaced by fast moving, wasteful and irresponsible people. These animals
had to adapt to the changes in their new environment, food choices, new creatures, and relationships
with those creatures. They had to work to outgrow their title of vermin given to them by the humans
by proving that this was their territory and they were not going to let it be taken away from

Critique Nursing
Essay preview The purpose of this assignment is to critique and evaluate the chosen article in terms of
strengths and weaknesses, to demonstrate an understanding of the research process. According to Polit
and Beck (2004) the aim of critically appraising an article is an attempt to determine its strengths and
limitations. Therefore, the research critique should reflect an objective and balanced consideration of
the study s validity and significance (Polit and Hungler 1999). The task of critiquing is, according to
Lo Biondo Wood and Harber (2006) a challenging one and can only be effectively achieved through
much practice and skill. For the purpose of this critique, the frameworks of Parahoo (1997) and Polit
and Hungler (1999) have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cormack (2000) states that the literature review is a critical review of previous literature relating to
the research topic. Therefore this section aims to provide the reader with an understanding of what the
current state of evidence is in the selected area of study. This review is organised by heading that
correspond to the key study concepts, which makes the review easy to follow. The researchers attempt
to review previous studies relating to the topic, thus preparing the ground for new research. The
studies presented highlight the significance of the problem under investigation. It was difficult to
identify the exact research question, as there was no definite question asked. Although Valente (2003)
states that sometimes researchers may hide the research question within the purpose of the study. The
final statement of the literature review is therefore the purpose of this study it is timely that perceived
barriers...are identified and acknowledged . Therefore as you read the review it moves from broad to
specific relevance with the last section of the review clearly outlining the need for the study. Due to
the article been published in 2004, it is expected that the references used will be relevantly recent.
From reading the reference list, it can be seen that this is the case and only three references before
1994 have been used. There was a need for these older references as the original author who employed

Of Mice And Men Themes
A big house with a great job and a loving family. Many strive for the American Dream but the best
laid schemes of mice and men often go awry. The movie Of Mice and Men tells a heartwarming story
about two migrant workers and their struggle to achieve their dream. Both director and actor Gary
Sinise takes the novel Of Mice and Men and creates an astonishing film that will leave you in awe.
The outstanding acting, diverse cinematography, and uplifting plot are what makes the film truly
memorable.
The filmed opened up with a flashback of a girl in a red dress. By showing this a sense of anticipation
and eagerness is created. A feeling of suspense is built up throughout the film by the way the director
decided to film each scene. The director ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The themes of friendship, trust, and manipulation can be shown through the movie in different ways.
Each of the themes work together to create a lesson that is taught throughout the film. The movie
shows the differences between right and wrong and also shows different ways of solving problems. All
together Of Mice and Men is more than just a story, but it is a perspective change in life and what the
meaning of friendship is. Not only does the film teach a lesson, but it inspires people to fulfill and live
out their dreams.
The film started by showing different shots of the scenery, giving the audience a different perspective
on the setting. As well as using distinct shots, the director uses unique angles that make the characters
appear slightly different. The director makes sure to wisely select backgrounds that aren t distracting
from the main thing being shown. Although the shots and camera angles were admirable the
transitions were rather abrupt.
The sound director did a good job of choosing music that is appropriate for each scene. The music
playing during conversations between the characters makes the conversation more sensitive and more
dramatic. The use of sound effects in the film made it more interesting and entertaining. Although the
sound effects were used well, the transitions of the music and sound effects were instantaneous at

Corvette that TJ who gets all the babes got? All I m going to attract are the old ladies from the nursing
homes! I ll be the biggest loser of the school! I had three choices. I could wreck it, drive it into a lake,
or I could leave the keys in the ignition and park it in the hood. I guess I ll ride my bike instead. Man,

Damnation In Hamlet
Hamlet is looking for ways to kill his uncle, King Claudius, to avenge his father s death. No doubt, he
is determined to murder his uncle not only for the sake of his father, but also for the absolute revulsion
he feels towards his uncle s incestuous relationship with his mother. Afterward, he is delayed on his
plans several times due to, shame, fear and a sense of honor.
Moreover; Hamlet has doubts about his father s ghost true intentions. He often wonders if the ghost
has evil intent towards him and he is ashamed he might be being used by the entity. The ghost I saw
may be the devil and the devil has the power to assume a pleasing disguise, and so he may be taking
advantage of my weakness and sadness to bring about my damnation (II.II.565 569). For this reason
Hamlet sets out to do a play to prove both his uncle reaction and the ghost s effectively delaying once
more his uncle s assassination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Hamlet kills his uncle he wants for him to suffer not to live happily ever after, and he expresses
this apprehension eloquently; I could do it easily now. He s praying now. And now I ll do it...A villain
kills my father, and I, my father s only son, send this same villain to heaven. Seems like I just did him
a favor (III.III.77 83). In conclusion, Hamlet has a strong sense of honor and he will want to do his
father justice in an honorable way perhaps through a common duel instead of a sneaky murder, but he
also wants to make sure he is not making a mistake. He is also under the impression that Claudius
might express remorse for his cruel deed. He openly voices this idea as; Hum. I have heard that guilty
creatures sitting at a play have, by the very cunning of the scene, been struck so to the soul that
presently they have proclaimed their malefactions (II.II.

Cultural Gap Between People From Mainland China And Hong...
The increasing threat to Hong Kong s autonomy and consequently rising nationalism represent serious
dangers to the success of One country, two systems. Rising resentment between people from mainland
China and Hong Kongers has created a cleavage that will ultimately result in the arrangement s
inevitable failure. The culture gap between peoples will be a significant contributing factor in this
failure. This culture gap, primarily defined by differences in language, development, and ideology will
heighten tension and resentment between these two peoples. This tension between mainland China
and Hong Kong will lead to greater political, cultural, and ideological animosity.
Political interference by mainland China has also served to increase Hong Kongers distrust of the
Chinese government. Recent events have seen direct threats to Hong Kong s autonomy, such as
forthright intrusion in elections and promotion of an anti democratization agenda that includes the
promotion of Mandarin in schools. In response, resentment in Hong Kong has resulted in rising
nationalism and movements that support increased autonomy to full sovereignty. These sentiments are
especially prevalent in young people, displayed through numerous demonstrations and protests.
Additionally, these common positions suggest that Hong Kongers and Chinese do not share the same
national identity. As a result, One country, two systems will inevitably fail. Resentment has developed

College Student Athletes Report
The purpose of this report is to determine whether college student athletes should be paid with more
than scholarships. This has been a heavily discussed topic over the last few years and will continue to
be discussed in the years to come. It is illegal for student athletes to receive compensation for their
participation in college athletics, because the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association)
specifically states in its 2016 2017 Summary of NCAA regulations that You (the student athlete) are
not eligible for participation in a sport if you have ever taken pay, or the promise of pay, for competing
in that sport (NCAA, 2016, p 2). Many argue college athletes should be paid with scholarships to
attend universities as well as cash ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since there is so much money spent, there is not as much money to pay the athletes as some may
believe. In an article Pete DiPrimio he discusses how schools do not make as much profit as some
believe. A study by the NCAA and USA Today showed that 206 Division I public athletic departments
lose money. Indiana and Purdue are two of the 22 public universities that make money (DiPrimio,
2011, p.1). Kansas State University is also one of the select few colleges that are profitable in the
NCAA. In the aforementioned letter from John Currie, he shows Kansas State s projected budget card
for the 2014 2015 fiscal year. Kansas State s projected budget is set so they can simply break even
(Currie, 2014). Their number one goal is not to make a profit or else their budget projections would be
set to make a profit. Figure 2 shows a few of the profitable programs. Only 14 percent of division 1
schools generated more than a million dollars in 2012. One of the main reasons Kansas State is
actually profitable is because of generous donations from

Life Of A Multi Sport Athlete
There is a time in the life of a busy multi sport athlete (and especially the longer, time constrained,
endurance athlete) when you must eat, it must be a complete meal, and it must be quick. Your body
can only support high volume training, proper performance, and immune system strength for a limited
period of time if all your quick meals consist of microwaved meals in a box, gas station trail mix, and
even all organic food bars. You ll eventually crash. So you must make a habit of regularly eating fast
healthy meals and wholesome foods without heavy amounts of preservatives, salts, sweeteners, and
synthetic chemicals, and you must to figure out how to do it without huge amounts of time and
preparation needed. On that note, I m going to give you my top ten meals that I rely on when I need
good, nutritious food fast. That is, when I ve finished a big ride and have to be at work in 10 minutes,
when I ve gotten back from the gym and need to be in ben within an hour, or when I have just a few
minutes to make a dish to fuel a workout. Each meal includes a complete blend of protein and carbs
for recovery and performance needs, and while none of these quick healthy meals are as tasty as filet
mignon, lobster ravioli, or a loaded chopped vegetable salad, they will fulfill the physiological needs
of the busy multi sport athlete. These are all relatively cheap eats with ingredients that are budget
friendly. Here are the top 10 meals that I personally make and have ingrained

  • 2. Review Of Claude Debussy s The Piano Achille Claude Debussy, commonly known as Claude Debussy, is one of the world s most famous Classical composers. His extreme talent at the piano is undeniable, and his life story is fascinating. Debussy was able to grow as an artist throughout his lifetime and continue this recognition long past his death. By creating a new and beautiful sound with the piano, Debussy was able to become one of the greatest composers of all time within the classical period that has lead to all different types of people from all different eras to appreciate his work. Debussy was born on August 22, 1862, in the town of Saint Germain en Laye, France. Debussy was the oldest of five children, where growing up in the suburbs of Paris, his family was quite poor. Although his family was poverty stricken, along with neither of his parents being musicians, Debussy was able to begin playing the piano at age seven and started to gain success at the age of nine. One of his teachers, Madame Maute de Flerville, who also taught the Polish composer Frederic Chopin (Lockspeiser), was able to provide Debussy with great knowledge and skill of the piano. Then at the age of only eleven, Debussy enrolled in the Paris Conservatory where he was able to express his musical talent and knowledge. At the conservatory, in addition to the artists studying their instrument, performers received training in music theory and harmony, and participated in ensembles (Jensen 9). Debussy s musical talent benefited greatly from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay on A Study of Epistemology A Study of Epistemology In the sixth century B.C., Homer alludes to a separation of knowledge between the mortals and the gods. He speaks of both gods and human beings as knowing things creatures of knowledge. However, there is a great difference in the quality and the scope of the knowledge available to the two groups (Everson, Pg.12). For the mortal human being the contrast between divine and human knowledge , paired with possible deception by the gods, has led him to question the idea of knowledge as it exists independently, reminding him that there are many things he cannot know for certain (Everson, Pg. 13). Epistemology, as it exists today, is a branch of philosophy that studies knowledge in an attempt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1). The development of empiricism has fashioned a present model that is widely used today: the reflection correspondence theory. The premise behind this ideology states knowledge results from a mapping of external objects that are related to the brain through sensory organs (Heylighen, Pg. 2). Reflection correspondence understands man will never reach an absolute state of knowledge, but somehow this inability to distinguish reality from illusion, illustrates thought as a limit of ever more precise reflections of reality (Heylighen, Pg. 2). Therefore thought, as a physical product of nature, is in itself a limiting trait. Another significant theory developed in this period is known as the Kantian synthesis of rationalism and empiricism. Kant pictured knowledge as emerging from the human organization of perceptual data on the basis of inborn cognitive structures known as categories (Heylighen, Pg. 2). His belief parallels, to some extent, that of evolutionary epistemology, which assumes knowledge is constructed by the subject, or social group as a means of adapting to their environment. This construction happens through blind variation , or what is understood as the correlation of different already existing pieces of knowledge. These pieces , or categories (according to Kant), are selectively retained in combinations that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The book Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and the biblical Parable of the Prodigal Son hold some similarities. They do, however, hold distinct differences. The differences between Great Expectations and the Parable of the Prodigal Son can be traced back to the purpose of the authors. The differences are evident though the authors purpose, the plot, and the main characters in both works. The main reason that Great Expectations and the Parable of the Prodigal Son are so different, is the intent of the original authors. Dickens wrote Great Expectations as a social commentary. ... The son in the parable decides to return home in hopes that his father will hire him as a worker. His father instead greets him with open arms and declares this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has been found (Luke 15:24). • 16. Charles Manson Death Penalty Outline Eye Catching Title: Some Information About Said Title Introduction On August 9th, 1969, popular film actress Sharon Tate was at home at 10050 Cielo Drive, Los Angeles, California. She, her unborn baby, three friends, and a visitor to the house were all shot or stabbed that night, and found the next morning. The brutal murders were committed by the infamous Manson Family, a cult led by none other than Charles Manson. Manson has been the inspiration for many pop culture references, appearing on American Horror Story: Cult, the comedy film Manson Family Vacation, and Quentin Tarantino s upcoming project, reportedly about the Tate murder in 1969. This amendment covers cruel and unusual punishment, which many people argue the death penalty is. The wording of the amendment states that excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted (Amendment VIII, U.S. Constitution). The aforementioned loophole in this amendment, however, is that it does not specifically define what punishments are, or are not, cruel and unusual. Briefly, in the 1970s, the Supreme Court ruled that the death penalty in most states was unlawful because it was being imposed in a discriminatory fashion. After this ruling, states had to change their death penalty procedures to satisfy the Court that they impose the death penalty fairly (Gale Student Resources in Context). The ruling was revoked later, however, and death penalties have been handed out since then. There are 19 states that have abolished the death penalty within their own state, which areincluding Alaska, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and ... Intro(10mins) Bacteria belongs to a group of organism that lacks cell nucleus and membrane bound organells. This group of organisms are termed as prokaryotes. Prokaryotes follows the central dogma of molecular biology first proposed by Francis Crick in 1958 to synthesize proteins from mRNA through a process called translation and the mRNA is being synthesized from the DNA by another process called Transcription. Temperature, nutrient availibity are some key factors that start the process of synthesizing proteins in response to these key factors. Example. Initial factors(IF 1, IF 2, IF 3) are required for the formation of the initiation complex described above. Once initiated, the polypeptide grows longer by covalently linking amino acids together. The ribosome has 3 binding sites for binding tRNA, 1 the peptidyl site (P site), 2 aminoacyl site (A site) and the 3 exit site (E site). At the beginning of elongagion, the P site is filled with fMet tRNA, and the A and E sites are empty. MRNA is bound to the ribosome in which its codon complement the anticodon of the tRNA at the P site. TRNA with anticodon to the codon of mRNA at the empty A site is inserted. A transpeptidation reaction occurs between the 2 amino acids carried by the tRNA, on the P and A site. This reaction results in the transfer of the amino acid in the P site to the amino acid in the A site. The ribosome now advances a distance of 1 codon and a new tRNA carrying the next amino acid moves into the A site where its anti codon matches the codon of the mRNA. The ribosome again shift down by a distance of 1 codon. As the shift occurs, the 2 amino acids on the tRNA in the P site are transferred to the new amino acid and the 2nd tRNA is released at the E exit. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Up to 70% of individuals with bipolar disorder experience periods of insomnia, which is associated with the risk of increasing the possibility of a relapse occurring. Because the individual is only receiving approximately three hours of sleep during a period of insomnia, the circadian rhythm cannot adapt to these irregular changes, and can worsen the course of the relapse period (Harvey, Kaplan, Soehner, 2015). This lack of rest required by the brain to function is highly likely to be the cause of Gerry s overactive mind, especially during night and normal sleeping hours. Since Gerry is already involved and familiar with cognitive behavioral therapy, I would suggest implementing another type of cognitive behavioral therapy aimed towards improving insomnia (CBT I). CBT I trains people to use techniques that address cognitive factors associated with insomnia, such as feeling as though the mind is racing, and is used to help overcome the worry and other negative emotions associated with the inability to sleep (Kaplan Harvey, n.d.). This type of CBT is also used as one of the initial lines of defense when managing periods of insomnia, rather than first attempting to use medication to treat the issue. It is designed to strengthen the association between sleep and the environment where sleep occurs, to develop a consistent sleep wake schedule(Kaplan Harvey, n.d.). The steps for this type of therapy are quite simple, and can be implemented with the help of Gerry s parents. Gerry should start out by only using his bedroom for sleeping purposes. An interesting concept the author points out is Morality, represents the way that people would like the world to work whereas economics represents how it actually does work (11). The authors several times oddly bring up that there is no unifying theme to the book, giving the impression the book is not well thought out. Regardless, there are some things that tie the unusual examples together, one being the theory of incentives as being the motivator. The other unifying thread is that conventional wisdom is often wrong, that when looking at situations, layers need to be peeled off and knowing what to measure and how to measure it allows for better understanding (12 13). The main character, Beatrice Washington, has just come out of rehab and is trying to stay drug free. She has also just moved to a new high school and is trying to get settled there. Although a setback to her goal occurs when Willa Prescott, a girl from the high school, is raped and left to die. Bea has a new goal in mind; bring justice to Willa and the families of the other girls who had been murdered/raped. Only if she can convince the police to believe her, and have Willa agree to who the rapist was. When Charlie reviewed the book Sketchy on goodreads.com, she was very enthusiastic and rated the book very positively, focusing on character development. Charlie is accurate in her assessment of the book because Beatrice is a very relatable character but is not the typical teenager which is portrayed in most books; she is more down to earth. She makes a remark saying nothing is so over the top to make it unbelievable and by doing so, I believe a wide audience will be able to easily connect with the character . This helps support the idea that the build up of character development can help increase the overall plot. It does this because it states how Beatrice is a character portrayed as a rebellious teenager but it is not extremely stereotypical and this helps the reader be more related to the story and feel as if he/she could imagine themselves in this position. This can be assumed because the scarecrows are described as gaunt and raggedy . By definition, gaunt means lean or haggard, because of suffering or hunger. This can also apply to all of the lower class people, because chances are if you don t have money, you won t be able to eat food as abundantly as a person of more wealth would. Within the poem A life by Sylvia Plath is mainly a commentary poem illustrating how an individual s life is split in two, one half revolving around society and the other half symbolising anything outside of the conformist nature of society. Being revealed to this personal interest, readers are summoned to perceive Frank as a relaxed character. Jubilantly he moves to the Dickens section and pulls out a pile of books to reveal a bottle of whiskey. • 39. Women s Views On Women In the United States, study after study continues to show that women have fewer opportunities to advance in the workplace than men. These disadvantages are a result of society s views of women in leadership positions and how women may view themselves in these roles. Women have been making progress in terms of equality in pay and job positions, but significant gaps remain. Women who strive to be promoted into higher levels of responsibility in their companies often meet resistance that prevents them from achieving the goal of a senior or executive level of management. This barrier is referred to as the glass ceiling and it is a controversial issue in our country today. The glass ceiling called this because women are able to see the higher level positions, but can reach them because of an intangible barrier. One can look at the Fortune 500 companies, which are the most successful companies in the U.S. in terms of revenue to see how few women are in leadership positions. Clearly, women are significantly underrepresented in these companies, as less than 5 percent of these companies have female chief executive officers (CEO) today (Dockterman 105). Providing the opportunity for women to move into management positions, like CEOs, would bring a unique talent and a new perspective on how the company can operate to perform better (Buckalew 147). The glass ceiling is a real obstacle that creates an intangible barrier that puts women at a disadvantage in advancing in a company. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A healthy organization is one that involves people who are loyal to one another, never judges, expresses genuine appreciation across their organizational structure, assists others with critical tasks and never places blame on someone (Williams, 2013). When businesses make and keep promises, they see strong trust and respect across the organization. If they often make commitments but fail to keep them, people will see frustration and self starving behavior (Williams, 2013). Shaw Industries focused on consistency to build a trusting relationship with their client. They delivered priorities by an explicit deadline and in turn, trust was earned. A customer s ability to trust is dependent upon showing the customer that your behavior is consistent and persistent over time. When a customer can predict your behavior, that customer is more likely to trust you (James, 2012). • 41. The Use Of Symbolism In Dandelion Wine By Ray Bradbury I am Doug Spaulding. Ray Bradbury may have chosen Doug to be the twelve year old protagonist in Dandelion Wine, but I am convinced that Bradbury took a pencil and paper to my childhood. Part of the reason why Doug s character resonates with me so much stems from Bradbury s use of symbolic language. Because symbolism leaves the audience to interpret the text s meaning, every reader draws a different interpretation of the text based on his or her own personal experiences. By picturing the experience associated with Bradbury s imagery, the reader gains a deeper understanding of the story. Bradbury effectively utilizes symbolism in Dandelion Wine to aid the audience in perceiving the text s significance and to impart the messages that form the novel s overall theme. Bradbury reveals Doug s youthful nature in the form of animals, allowing the reader to visually imagine Doug s mental and physical characteristics. After Doug becomes aware of his existence, Bradbury writes, Douglas, eyes shut, saw spotted leopards pad in the dark (10). When Doug opens his eyes, Bradbury states, The leopards trotted soundlessly off through darker lands where eyeballs could not turn to follow (10). From a twelve year old s perspective, leopards seem like the fastest and scariest animals in the world. The reader envisions the leopards and gathers that Doug s realization of his existence struck him unexpectedly, leading him to be justifiably frightened. When Doug opens his eyes, the leopards ... A Rhetorical Analysis Of Over The Hedge The author of Animating Revolt and Revolting Animation, Judith Halberstam, uses rhetorical strategies to speak to her point that animated movies can be used to reach a wide ranging audience to convey deep underlying messages in a way that is entertaining for all. The author points out how Pixar movies brings non traditional characters to life and faces them against real life struggles but does so in a happy ending manor that captivates audiences. This is accomplished by the author introducing a plot line from a Pixar movie that illustrates a struggle or classic battle and then describes the characters that are in the struggle and how they live through it. Rising resentment between people from mainland China and Hong Kongers has created a cleavage that will ultimately result in the arrangement s inevitable failure. The culture gap between peoples will be a significant contributing factor in this failure.
