Black Social, Intellectual, And Political Boundaries
Pan Africanism signifies the difficulties of black social, intellectual, and political notions over a two
hundred year span. What establishes Pan Africanism, on the basic level, is the unity of Africans
worldwide. Pan Africanists believe that the African people in its entirety, which includes the Diaspora
and the African continent, does not just share common beginnings but also a common destiny.
(Asante, 1976, p. 97) This ideology of an intertwined past and future of all the African people has
however took many forms, as different thinkers feel that there are different methods in achieving
African unity. Three great thinkers, W.E.B. Dubois, Marcus Garvey, and Malcolm X, were all leaders
of their own Pan African movement which each contained their own element in achieving Pan
Africanism. DuBois took a more academic stance which included the utilization of the elites, whereas
Garvey and Malcolm X were more so grassroots organizers as they believed in the bottom up decision
making rather than top down.
To commence, Dr. William Edward Burghardt DuBois, better known as W.E.B. Dubois, is
acknowledged as the Father of Pan Africanism. (Esedebe, 1971, p. 84) One of DuBois first movement
towards Pan Africanism was his idea of the Talented Tenth. He felt that in order to save the Negro race
it must be done by exceptional men. (Franklin, 2011, p. 301) Dubois believed that the development of
the Negro race must be done through college education. This involved writing books,

The Effects of Caffeine on Daphnia
This experiment is to see The Affect of Caffeine on Daphnia. Daphnia is also known as a water flea. It
is a distant relative of crabs and shrimps. (Marshall Cavendish, 2002) Daphnia have a hard external
skeleton with jointed appendages and limbs. The head contains a large central eye which is made of
two eyes joined together. Daphnia has two pairs of antennae which are used for swimming. Each
daphnia has five pairs of limbs. These limbs lie in a certain space under the body bounded by the
carapace. (Marshall Cavendish, 2002) A carapace is a hard upper shell or chitinous outer covering on
the back of some animals. The daphnia is well preserved because of its shells which are composed of
chitin. The usual size of this microorganism is about 0.2 0.3 mm; they look like flat disks. Their
bodies are divided into three parts head, thorax, and abdomen. The head is typically dome shaped with
five pairs of appendages. Among these five are two pairs of antennae; there is a small pair and a larger
pair. The smaller pair of antennae serves as a sensory function and the larger one is used for
swimming. The other three appendages purpose is to secure food they intake. (Michael Hutchins,
2003) The thorax holds four to six pairs of legs that are used for gathering food, filtering water, or
grasping mates. There are over 400 species of daphnia and they are distributed worldwide. Daphnia
uses their thoracic legs to produce a constant current of water; this allows them to filter food

Modernism vs Neo-Traditionalism Essay
Modernism vs Neo Traditionalism: A debate on the merits and failures of two major competing
paradigms in architecture and urban planning.
Beyond the term modernism underlies one of the greatest ideas in architectural development.
Modernism was meant to provide more green areas, cheaper housing and more efficient use of space.
This was to be accomplished by creating vertically dense spaces with the use of the new inventions of
the nineteenth century, such as steel, glass, electricity and elevators. By decreasing costs of building,
modernists hoped to provide cheaper housing, affordable to almost anybody. The modernist movement
was also promising to meet the growing demand for office spaces, hence the motto ... Show more

Form follows function , said Sullivan, one of the founding fathers of modernism. As a response to
mechanization and industrialization, modernism was extremely beneficial to companies that needed
office space. To have a skyscraper built was a great investment on the company s side, not only did it
provide the necessary office space, it also allowed to lease the remaining offices to other companies,
thus making a profit. Modernism also appealed to the general population since the rise in birth rates
provided a greater demand for housing. Many argued that same modular spaces would promote
equality among its inhabitants. Modernism also promised to create more public spaces with green
areas and waterworks by the virtue of vertical density. Supposedly, there would be more space.
Not to forget, the building and maintenance costs of a modernist building were significantly less than
that of a traditional one.
However, nor Federal Plaza, a textbook modernist landscape, nor housing projects seem to have
public spaces around them. Modernism was applied selectively, leaving out perhaps one of its most
important functions. And although Mies van der Rohe did say the less is more in terms of
ornamentation, there do not seem to be any sources that argue that modernist buildings have to be so
redundant. There s no reason that modernist architecture and can not have some

Character Analysis Of Iago In Shakespeare s Othello
Character Analysis of Iago As we read Othello in class, Iago reminded me of a character named Lotso
from the movie Toy Story 3 that was released in 2010. During the movie, Lotso gained the trust of the
toys at the daycare as well as Andy s toys. He then manipulated them and turned them against one
another. In Othello, Iago manipulated his peers and pretended to be everyone s friend. They saw him
as honest Iago and they never doubted anything he said. Iago also turned Othello against Desdemona
and Cassio by using Othello s jealousy to upset him. Iago did all of this because he wanted to punish
Othello for not choosing him as his lieutenant. He used Othello to remove Cassio from the chain of
command so he could claim the position of lieutenant. These are the most apparent similarities
between the two characters. As Cassio was chosen over Iago, Lotso felt like he was thrown away and
replaced by a new bear as well. Lotso convinces the toys that they were forgotten and they needed to
move on and go somewhere else so they could be appreciated (Unkrich, Toy Story 3). The toys believe
Lotso and they stick together. They end up at a daycare and Lotso convinces everyone that they should
let him be their leader. Likewise, Iago gets upset with Othello because he makes Cassio the lieutenant.
Iago feels that he is more qualified for the job, and he has been fighting alongside Othello for years.
Iago makes Othello believe that Cassio is sleeping with Desdemona, his wife. Iago

Sex Tourism In Thailand Essay
Sex tourism examines the issues that emerge from a sex worker (prostitute) and tourist
(farang/customer) interactions. Sex Tourism is progressively spreading and it is now a worldwide
subject matter that every country can relate to some way or the other. Sex tourism it has been around
for decades and it has grown more widespread. This industry is very well understood by the tourist. It
is not formally publicized; it is rather through informal exchanges, word of mouth and internet, that
the farang gets to know who to see and where to go. In Thailand sex tourism is a main source of
income for many rural families. These families are poor and the fact that the state of the economy of
the country is bad it makes the situation worse. In this analytical essay, I will argue the cause and
origin of prostitution as a result of the Current economic status in Thailand.
Sex tourism, for the vast majority, conjures up an image of red light districts in places like Amsterdam
and Patpong Bangkok. However, the historical backdrop of sex tourism dates back to the time of the
industrial revolution era (1820s 1840s). During the Vietnam war, a large number of U.S soldiers were
involved in the boom of the brothels industry and organized prostitutions. According to class lectures,
the U.S government allowed the soldiers to go to Thailand for Rest and Recreation (R R). (holiday sex
6). Prostitution was already in practice before the war, however, its because of the vast majority of

A Teacher s Assistant For An Afterschool Program Essay
As a teacher s assistant for an afterschool program called Good Grades Academy, I decided to the
vocabulary as an extension of the classroom teacher s comprehension unit. My vocabulary game was
based on a lesson involving literary elements for fifth grade students. I worked with a fifth grade
student named Bartek who is eleven years old. His strengths lie in his ability to figure out challenging
math problems, but he struggles in the areas of reading and comprehension. Bartek decoding skills are
on par with his grade level, but his comprehension skills are representative of a third or fourth grade
level. He cannot recall important information in the text and his writing responses are unrelated to the
text. In addition, Bartek often lacks motivation and has difficulty completing his work. He cannot sit
still and disturbs the other students working in the classroom. When asked to complete work related
tasks he states that it is too difficult and is inattentive when receiving instruction. I decided to play the
vocabulary game with him because it would be a fun and interactive way to help him learn words.
After the students in the afterschool program finish assigned work they are allotted time for fun
activities, so I used this opportunity to implement the vocabulary game. The purpose of my game was
to clarify literary elements that Bartek was working on understanding. As stated in the Core manual
Knowing about story structure provides a framework that helps students to

Complexities Of Communism
Society has developed political theories conducting the lifestyles of surrounding communities.
The foundation of communism constructed eruptions, division, and colossal affects penetrating the
lives
of many during the time of corruption. Society has ventured the different aspects of communism`
facing
hardships that democracies has barely touched in. One cannot understand the complexities of a
communism state of government without first understanding the foundation.
The idea of communism is derived from political theorist Karl Marx, leading to a community in

Countries that have experienced communism in their economy obtain a high chance of
government collapse such as the Soviet Union due to insufficient supplies and lack of allies. Not only
did it have a hard time finding economic partners, it was also pushed into an arms race it couldn t
possibly win. Changing your economic system into a political theory that is known to be destroying
can
cause tensions and lose the allies that were once formed. One of the main reasons for the economic
stagnation was the Soviet s failure to manufacture innovative products that could compete on the
market.
The manufacturing of goods is the government s main source of profits and having that industry
decline
in earnings can create debt and insufficient amount of goods leading to the collapse of a society.
Implementing communism into a countries federal system can cause a decline in profit creating a
chain
reaction of tensions, economic downfall, and a noncompliant society.

Stereotypes In The Film Juno
Juno is a 2007 film directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody. It stars Ellen Page as the
title character who unexpectedly becomes pregnant at age 16. Juno deals primarily with the subject of
teenage pregnancy and this storyline comprises the bulk of the plot. Juno reflects how society s gender
norms and attitudes have changed over time. In the past, it is likely that teenage pregnancy would be
portrayed negatively. However, Juno deals with her pregnancy in a cheerful and upbeat manner and
never loses her sharp tongue or quick wit and she receives support from her family. The issue of
casual sex is portrayed as being very normal since Juno and Paulie are not in a committed relationship.

America s Changing Fringe Economy
Part I: Chapter 1: America s Changing Fringe Economy In Chapter 1 it goes into depth with a multiple
definitions of the fringe economy and how profitable the fringe economy is. This chapter also
provides information pertaining the involvement of mainstream financial institutions that would have
been guessed. It talks about how 22,000 payday lenders extended more than $25 billion in short term
loans to millions of struggling households in 2004. Also it went over how 11,000 check cashing stores
alone processed 180 million checks, which would equal to about $55 Billion. With payday lenders out
numbering other local stores and restaurants it is allowing them to be at every corner in low income
neighborhoods making it convenient and pushing banks out of the area. For example, straight out of
the book it describes how McDonald s has only 13,500 U.S. restaurants, Burger King has 7624, Target
has 1,250 stores, Sears has 1,970, J.C. Penney has about 1,000 locations, and the entire Wal Mart retail
chain includes about 3,600 U.S. outlets. All of these combined 29,000 locations are fewer than the
nation s 33,000 check cashing and payday lenders, just two sectors of the fringe economy. Chapter 2:
Why the Fringe economy is Growing In Chapter 2 the author, Karger, defines another component of
the fringe economy, the customers and provides an in depth explanation of each factors contributing to
the fringe economy s growth. Furthermore, it is said the fringe economy is growing because

The Consequences Of King Henry VIII
King Henry VIII Tudor was greedy, selfish and a very ambitious man in his time. Anything that Henry
wanted, he would strive to make sure that he received it and it happened, no matter what the costs
were. This includes divorcing all of his wives, even though such divorces were against Catholics
theologies. Reigning between 1509 and 1547, Henry VIII became the most famous king for all of the
wives he ended up marrying and then divorcing. This issue was so popular during Henry s reign, that a
rhyme was even created to summarize the fates of all of his wives, divorced, beheaded, died, divorced,
beheaded, survived, but what was the real reason Henry decided to divorce, and sometimes behead,
his wives? Henry would say that he divorced his wives because they cheated him in the relationship,
they tricked Henry into marrying them out of love or the marriage was not a valid one. But in all
actuality, Henry VIII only married to get something out of the relationship that would benefit himself
or how he controlled his country. If his wife did not provide what he wanted and needed, he would
divorce her and move on to the next wife. This tactic was shown through his first wife Queen
Katherine of Aragon in the letters that Cardinal Campeggio wrote about the King s personal marriage
situation to Queen Katherine, known as The King s Matter. Cardinal Campeggio, himself, wrote in a
letter to Pope Clement VII, about the time King Henry privately came to him asking about an
annulment. Campeggio wrote that he talked to Henry for four hours discussing two matters. The first
was why Henry should not go through with the annulment of his marriage with Queen Katherine.
Campeggio suggested that he should not seek an annulment because it would only start trouble within
the country because it would look scandalous. Campeggio stated, I exhorted him not to attempt this
matter, in order to confirm and clear his conscience, to establish the succession of the kingdom and to
avoid scandals. Campeggio also suggested that seeking an annulment would only increase tension and
Henry should worry about more about pressing issues, such as finding an heir, but little did
Campeggio know, annulling Henry s marriage to Queen Katherine was

Driving While Driving And Driving
Driving and Distraction In an age dominated by technology, an individual s cell phone is a very
important device for the function of day to day tasks. Whether driving to the grocery store, driving to
work, or driving to a friends house, chances are you have used your cell phone at least once while
operating a vehicle, but is this dangerous? Simultaneously driving and the use of a cell phone is
deemed illegal in many states under the presumption that it is a distraction to driving. This legislation
is usually preconceived under the notion that the distraction comes from peripheral factors associated
with the use of a cell phone and not the conversation on the cell phone itself. Past research measured
individuals who were using a cell phone prior to an accident, but this questions validity. These
individuals whom used a cell phone before an accident could be prone to more risky behavior on the
road and not due to the use of the cell phone itself. Other research attempted to measure distraction
with phone conversations, but relied on arithmetic, reasoning, and mental tasks, all which are not of a
typical phone conversation. Research conducted in 2001 by Strayer and Johnston aimed to resolve
these issues by measuring the extent in which the use of cell phone by conversation interferes with
driving and the underlying factors for the interference. This research is of utmost importance because
individuals could not only be putting their self at risk when using a cellphone while

Banking Fraud And The Banking Industry
A banking fraud is the use of illegal means to gain money, assets from depositors or clients
fraudulently while posing as a bank, agent or any other financial institution. In many countries and
especially the United States, bank fraud is a criminal offense even though experts refer to it as a white
collar crime due to the manner in which it is carried out. The paper below will look at the
vulnerabilities that face the banking industry while using the example of Stanford Financial Group
Company to show how the banking fraud can be committed. Moreover, the paper will also look at the
different frauds that can be committed in the banking sector and how the vulnerabilities can be
avoided. A fraud prevention program will also be created meant to help companies in the banking
industry prevent and detect crimes and frauds before they occur (Riggs, 2007).

Like many popes before him, Pope Leo X aspired to renovate Rome to reflect the power of
Christianity. In their quest to establish Rome as an important religious center, the popes goal was to
destroy most ancient ruins and erase the city s pagan history. In the efforts to prevent a complete
destruction of Rome s past, Raphael expresses his concerns and beliefs in the Report to Pope Leo X.
In his letter, Raphael tries to convince the Pope to put a stop to the destruction of the city by glorifying
the work and architecture of the ancients. Raphael tries to reason with the Pope by reminding him
about the glory of the town in the ancient times, which was due to the significant efforts and talents of
its people. He also laments about the destruction

Mediating Variables Essay
1) Discuss the concepts of mediating and moderating variables. Be sure to clarify how these concepts
are different and how they are similar.
The reason why one variable effects another does not always occur in isolation, there are both
mediating and moderating variables that may influence a causal relationship.
Mediating Variables They are a necessary third variable between two items. That is, without mediating
variable, b , variable a will not produce a specific effect on variable, c. (Crano Brewer, 2002)
Moderating variables A third variable that can either enhance or suppress a relationship. Its existence
does not cause a specific relationship to occur. (Crano Brewer, 2002)
These concepts are similar in the sense that they both have an effect on the relationship but are
different in the sense that mediating variables are necessary in order for the relationship to exist and
moderating variables merely suppress or enhance the quality of an existing relationship; that is, the
relationship exists on its own but is either enhanced or suppressed by the moderating variable. (Crano
Brewer, 2002)
2) Review the different scales of measurement (nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio).

The Battle of Waterloo and its Effect on Today s Artillery
Napoleon Bonaparte, one of the world s greatest military strategists, led the French at the Battle of
Waterloo. During his time as a General, even in defeat, his tactics in the way he used artillery were
beyond reproach. His successes and errors made throughout the Battle of Waterloo had a direct effect
on how we use artillery today.

impending Prussian arrival, he decided to send 20,000 troops, to his left flank, to intercept the
Prussians. Although, this was a sensible approach, it severely weakened the main attack. The French
finally push through and took La Haye Sainte (the estate in the center of the Battlefield) but, this
would end up being a small victory in a battle that would have an inevitable outcome. The British
retreated their men, behind the ridge, in an attempt to hide them from the French viewpoint. The
French, thinking they had the British on their heels, sent their elite soldiers (Old Guard) up the middle
of the battlefield and over the ridge. Unknowingly to the French, Duke Wellington hatched a plan to
hide some of his troops. As the Old Guard begins its assault, of the British center line, they are
surprised by British troops lying in wait, on their flanks, in the high corn fields. The Old Guard is
routed by three horse batteries attacking their flanks. With the Prussian Army destroying the left flank
of the French Army, Wellington sounds the general charge. The charge is successful in pushing back
the French lines. Napoleon regroups his Old Guard and orders them to attack. By this time, the Old
Guard is down to under 200 men. Once again, Wellington uses his plan to hide

products would be sold in the same marketplace, and would serve most of the same purposes. The real
question is who does it better? The first product is called Spark Blocks. This product encompasses
many different aspects, from notifications, to music, to daily reminders. This system is composed of
many numerous blocks, no larger than the palm of your hand. They all fit together to make a cohesive

Analysis Of The Idea Of Michael Jackson s Dick By Almond
Michael Jackson had been succumbed to a really bad childhood. A childhood, in which a child plays
around, enjoys and cherishes his time being loved by his parents and learning from them, he was made
to sing with his brothers and was often mistreated by his father. It is said that family is where the life
begins and love never ends but for Michael Jackson it was the opposite. In The Idea of Michael
Jackson s Dick, by Almond, one of the fictitious characters exclaims: His dad beat him...His brothers
despised him. His mother was in denial. No one ever made him feel loved as a child. He was just this
little performing monkey. It was a kind of slavery (Almond, 3). This explains that however he brought

which caused Jackson to act childlike throughout his entire life. Sullivan mentions that, His art will
later depend on his ability to stay in touch with that childlike inner instrument (Sullivan, 3). He used
to act childish just to preserve the childlike voice he had. We can also infer as that he could only do
well when he was under pressure or maybe he wanted to stay as a child because people wanted him to.

Art is the expression of one s creative skill, which can be expressed in many different forms.
Sculptures, paintings, clothing, music, and poems are just a few of the vast art forms. Artwork comes
not only in different forms, but different styles as well, such as abstract, representational, and

impressionistic style of an artist. Impressionist paintings seek to recreate the viewer s or artists general
impression of a depicted scene. The style is generally characterized by faint outlines and small
brushstrokes of various colors, that the eye tends to blend together at a distance. Representational is a
word commonly used to describe art forms that relate to the natural world in which we live in and are
easily translated by the audience, which is exactly what Leonid Afremov did with When Dreams
Come True while using abstract, or out of the ordinary, colorways. The history behind this artwork is
shown in the 19th century impressionistic style that is used as well as the vibrant and contrasting
colors used. Afremov took advantage of this color palette in order to get a message across that

Overcoming Adversity And Obstacles In The Circuit, By...
Helen Keller once said, Although the world is full of suffering, it is also about overcoming it. Helen
Keller faced a lot of adversity and obstacles in her life. But she got through it. Everyone faces
obstacles in their lives, some more than others, but no ones life is just a sunny sea. I will be telling of
four stories that are full of amazing people, who, against all odds powered through obstacles and kept
going with their lives and competing their dreams against all odds. The Circuit To start off, I will be
talking about the story, The Circuit (written by Francisco Jimenez) Panchito, a young kid who belongs
to a family of migrant workers, struggles having to leave his homes everytime the harvest ends. This
leads him to not having many friendships, missing school very often, and not always having the
greatest sleeping quarters. The shed they were given at the new place wasn t great, but it was
something, and they were grateful for it. When Panchitos parents finally agreed that he could go to
school again, he was very happy. At this new school he met a amazing teacher willing to help him
learn to speak better english and even to play the trumpet. But unfortunately, a few when he came

One of the ways is shown in the narrative was when Panchito kept doing the hard labor in the fields
everyday. He never once quit because it was too hard, or complained because he wanted to go to
school. Many people in our society would complain and beg for a break, leaving other people to do
the work. Following that, not only did panchito show remarkable characteristics, his family did as
well. Once Panchitos mom found a landowner willing to take them in, she was so grateful. The shelter
they were given was a garage with termite ridden walls and a dirt floor, but they didn t whine about

Human Trafficking in Cambodia Essay
Human Trafficking in Cambodia Imagine a four year old girl growing up in contemporary Cambodia.
Each morning she wakes up miles from home, homesick and scared. She is forced to beg for money
for the brothel that she belongs to, and all of her earnings go straight to her master. Then, that night,
about seven men come to the brothel. These men, some as old as fifty, often pay as little as two dollars
to partake in sexual intercourse with these school aged children. The toddlers enslaved in the horrific
sex trade are forever stripped of their purity, making human trafficking a major issue in present day
Cambodia. Over 30,000 children are sexually exploited annually ( Children for Sale ), and millions

Girls are abused and beaten regularly, and the government condones these actions as if they are not
occurring. Currently, however, more and more respected organizations are helping with the fight
against human trafficking, although the problem still heavily influences the country. To begin with, in
Cambodia, human trafficking has been a pertinent problem for the past two decades, mainly because
of myths, poverty, and traditions. In the country, a tradition often surfaces about men having a great
desire to have sexual intercourse with those who are pure and young because it will remove all of their
sins. The myth is that when men had sexual relationships with virgins, it would grant them luck and
good health. For this reason, an abundance of pedophiles used to visit Cambodia because they knew
that the country condoned prostitution (Pesta). Due to the myth and the command of pedophiles for
prepubescent girls, brothels are targeting those younger and younger. Children as young as four are
being sent into the sex trade, and prostitution has become a fixture of urban life in Cambodia ( The
Face of ). Furthermore, visiting prostitutes has become a common and accepted male pastime [in the

Social Work Values And Ethics
Running head: Social Work Values and Ethics 1
Social Work Values and Ethics Unique to the Profession Jessica A. Rosario Arizona State University
Social Work Values and Ethics 2 Abstract The history and evolution of social work dates to the late
1800 s.
Since the profession was recognized many concerns arose regarding the values and ethics of social
workers. The key points of the NASW Code of Ethics, the CSWE Educational Policy and Standards,
and HIPAA will be summarized. Some of the most challenging ethical issues facing social workers

The CSWE ensures that social workers are educated and competent in the field of social work. It
serves as a guideline for social work educators. The (CSWE) uses the Educational Policy Act
Standards (EPAS) to accredit baccalaureate and master s level social work programs. EPAS supports
academic excellence by establishing thresholds for professional competence (CSWE, 2015).
Social Work Values and Ethics 4 Ethical issues in general, regardless of the profession or field one is
in are inevitable. Social workers understand the value base of the profession and its value base of the
profession and its ethical standards, as well as relevant laws and regulations that may impact practice
at the micro and macro level (Segal, 2016). Although social workers are trained and understand ethical
standards does not prevent them to one day face ethical issues. According to (Reamer, 2014) we have
embarked on a new period, one which few of us, he suspected, could have anticipated. Today s social
workers can provide services online or via video counseling or text messages to clients they never
meet in person. They may receive Facebook friend request from clients or former clients that lead to
boundary challenges. These boundary challenges as Reamer categorizes them are part of what he calls
the Digital period. Issues steadily arise even among segments of the population that one would expect

The Effects Of Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation ( Nmes...
The impact of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) on markers of recovery following
intensive, muscle damaging training
Introduction
For many sports with congested fixtures recovery between games is very important to ensure players
are at their best for the matches. An example of a period where this is particularly true is the Christmas
period with football with most teams facing a high number of games in a short period, sometimes only
2 days between games. Without proper recovery modalities players, can suffer from delayed onset
muscle soreness (DOMS) and from a study by Cheung, Hume Maxwell (2003) it was found that
DOMS reduces athletic performance due to the muscle soreness and the damage done to the muscle
and caused a decrease in strength and power, with a greater effect on strength and power during
eccentric contractions. A study by Byrne, Twist and Eston (2004) discussed the muscle damage caused
by high force eccentric exercise. They found that the stretch shortening cycle(SSC) what occurs
during a drop jump, causes muscle damage in the muscle and therefore contributes to DOMS and is
similar to the damage done by running.
The appearance of Creatine Kinase in the blood following exercise has been used as an indirect
measure of muscle damage and a study by Clarkson Hubal (2002) looked into various different
markers of muscle damage in the blood and CK was investigated compared to other blood markers
they found CK increase much more relative to other

Concealed Campus Carry Research Paper
We are seeing a growing number of states bringing forth campus carry to their legislation. Some states
leave it up to the individual college or university to decide to allow concealed carry, while others
outright ban it. However, Texas passed Senate Bill 11 which allowed for licensed gun holders to carry
a concealed handgun on university grounds. Texas was the eighth state to allow concealed campus
carry. Now Georgia and Tennessee are beginning to make efforts. House Bill 280 has recently passed
through Georgia s legislature and is now awaiting the Governor s approval or denial. In Tennessee,
full time employees have been able to carry concealed weapons as of July of 2016, now they are

Governor Nathan Deal of Georgia is even demanding that guns be banned from facilities where high
school students take specific college courses. Tennessee and Texas have not addressed the topic of
guns around dual enrollment high school students. Each state has requirements on who can carry as
well. Texas goes a step further than Georgia and Tennessee and requires those who want to carry must
undergo training from a certified instructor. No training is required for Georgia or Tennessee, but
perhaps it s something they should consider to greater ensure safety.
More and more states are pushing for campus carry and universities and colleges no longer be a gun
free zone. There will always be debates whether guns on campus are good or bad. Groups such as

Caroll also hints that Queen Victoria is most likely to convict an innocent man or woman to prison due
her inability to judge and give the correct punishment as she is often sway by her emotions. The
author further juxtaposes Queen Victorian and The Queen of Hearts by accentuating the fact that
Queen Victoria is ruthless and vicious when it pertains to punishments. Not only Queen Victoria is
known for her overbearing attitude, she can juxtapose due to her love for punishment and judging a
crime unfairly just like the Queen of Hearts. You may go, said the King, to the Hatter hurriedly left the
court, without even waiting to put his shoes on and just take his head off outside, the Queen added to
one of the officers (Through the Looking Glass 102). Caroll uses the Queen of Hearts to satirises

Manifest Destiny is a term for the American expansion that the united States not only could, but was
destined to, stretch from coast to coast. Protestants left England and came to America in the 17th
century, and to their understanding arriving to America safely was a sign that god had chosen them to
spread their knowledge, to be a city upon a hill . Which is a phrase from the bible means to be looked
upon and to set an example for the world to see. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a
hill cannot be hidden Matthew 5:14. This religious example inspired protestants that it was not just
their job but there religious responsibility to expand and show others the right way. The phrase
contributed to manifest destiny was first employed by John L. O Sullivan in an article on the
annexation of Texas published in the July August 1845 it is our manifest destiny to overspread the
continent allotted by providence for the free development of our yearly multiplying millions .
According to John L. O Sullivan going to war with Mexico was god s plan, while others believe that

The Characteristics Of Intellectual Disabilities
Definition: The term intellectual disability has gone through a series of modification along the years.
For instance, at first mental retardation was the terminology intellectual disability was referred to as
(Gargiulo Bouck, 2017, p. 162).Nonetheless, Intellectual disability is defined by Gargiulo and Bouck
as a disability characterized by significant limitations in both in intellectual functioning and in
adaptive behavior as expressed in conceptual, social and practical adaptive skills (Gargiulo Bouck,
2017, p. 165).In other words intellectual disability is not only primarily focusing on cognitive
impairment but also in a child s behavior.

characteristics that members of this group share. Meaning that not every single person placed under
intellectual disability will share similar characteristics (Gargiulo Bouck, 2017, p. 181). Impaired
cognitive functioning is the most prevalent characteristic displayed by students affected with this
disability (Gargiulo Bouck, 2017, p. 181). Cognitive functions include: individual s ability to learn,
acquire concepts, process information, and apply knowledge in various setting such as school

The rise of Prussia from 1640 to 1715 was mainly due to the great leadership of Frederick William the
Elector , Frederick William I and Frederick the Great of Prussia. Many military, social, and political
factors led to the rise of Prussia also. The major factor that helped Prussia become a great power was
the growth of Prussia s new army and the territory they took because of this powerful military. Most of

Many of the social factors that led to the rise of Prussia were made by Fredrick the Great. Some even
called him The Social Reformer . He made life for Prussians easier by abolishing torture and corporal
punishment.[7] He established religious tolerance and freedom of speech by ending censorship.[8]
Fredrick resettled immigrants from Austria to establish weaving as a major Prussian industry.[9] He
proved himself as an enlightened ruler who reformed Prussia s agriculture, legal system, industry and
government for the better.[10] He added a diversity of skills to his country by integrating religions into
his countries everyday life such as, Jewish teachers, or Jesuit merchants and bankers.[11] He also
purposely set reasonable prices on grain so farmers and townspeople wouldn t go hungry.[12]
Frederick William I also helped socially unite Prussia by created a strong centralized bureaucracy.
This allowed commoners to rise to top positions in the civil government. So now power rested with
the hard working, not with the men who were born rich or with land. With this change, there was no
longer Parliamentary Estates. This socially reformed Prussia set the foundation for a powerful
Prussian empire. Prussian leaders wanted to establish royal absolutism.[13] Most of the political
reform was a change in who was in political positions of power. Frederick William and Frederick

Labor Unions During The Civil War
The changes brought up labor unions in the United States over recent history has brought about a
movement. This specific movement has shaped the way that employees and workers are treated in the
workforce, and how they maintain their quality of life through this employment. Many people think
that the labor unions influence has created a power struggle between management and union leaders.
In many cases this can be considered true, as there have been countless feuds between management
teams and labor unions, especially in recent history. In today s times, on the one hand, some people
believe the existence of unions are a necessity in order to ensure and promote employee freedom;
while on the other hand some people view labor unions as just another problem in the line of
employee success. Initially, the intent of labor unions was for employed workers to meet together and
collectively agree on fundamental workplace objectives and goals. The rise of the union came about
after the Civil War, in the United States responding to the industrial economy boom. Following the
war, labor unions finally reached public popularity within the 1930 1950 s, and then again began to
slowly decrease, through the 1960 s and on to today s times. Although, the popularity of labor unions
has decreased, its importance remains to be evident with politics, journalism, auto, and the public
education industries. Firstly, unions have a long standing history of standing up for employees and

quality of learning could be enhanced to increase the efficiency of education. However, if
homeschooling has to be popularized in Hong Kong, supportive measurements from different parties,

The Representation of Tricksters in the Works of Charles...
Fraud, con man, and hustler are all modern day terms to describe the age old character in African
American literature known as the trickster. Today s working definition of a trickster is one who
swindles or plays tricks; often a mischievous figure in myth or folklore, who typically makes up for
physical weakness through cunning and subversive humor. In African American literature the role of
the trickster is a reoccurring theme, especially in the time period spanning from post Civil War to the
Harlem Renaissance. During slavery and the years that followed the image of a trickster changed from
a humorous amoral figure to a cunning and socially conscious icon. Charles W. Chesnutt is a primary
example of an author, who faithful employs the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Colonel Owens intentions were to select a slave his son could bring up north, who had proven to be
resistant to abolitionist ideals and the prospect of running away. To Colonel Owens elation, Grandison
s answers not only confirmed his view of a mutually benefits of slavery but went above and beyond to
demonstrate a conceivably genuine appreciation of the resources and lifestyle on the plantation. He
went on questioned Grandison about the fairness of his treatment and the kindness of his master
before promising him a bead necklace for his future wife and deeming him abolitionist proof.
Although the interaction described was only a brief portion of the story it proves to be a pivotal
moment in the plot and leaves the audience to assume that Grandison is loyal slave with no intention
of running away. But, as we later find out, Grandison was not at all ignorant to the ideals of
abolitionism and actually aspired to be a free man. He eventually achieves his goal as we see in the
very last chapter but not without an unexpected twist Grandison then goes on to successfully deceive
his young master, Dick Owens, and forges his loyalty several times during their travels to New York,
Boston, and eventually Canada. Throughout the journey, Dick Owens provides the Grandison with a
number of opportunities to

Psychological Relationship between the Sensory Affective Dimensions of Pain Pain can be described
in a number of different ways, but is determined by the perception of pain that they are experiencing.
Pain is something that comes from our experiences and develops due to stimulation and human
interaction. It involves concepts such as location, feelings of unpleasantness and having the sensation
of pain. Pain becomes possible because of a psychological development that begins at birth (Challies).
The sensory pain is the quality of the pain experienced in a particular location and is often described
as a sensational form of hurt. The affective pain is described as an emotional experience in which pain

Neuropathic pain is a form of chronic pain that affects nerve fibers and the affected fibers send
incorrect signals to the area causing pain on and around the area. What is Pain? Pain is created by
activation of nociceptors in the skin that respond to different types of stimulation. Signals from the
nociceptors are transmitted to the spinal cord and then from the dorsal root of the spinal cord along
pathways that lead to the brain (Goldstein). Pain travels from the nervous system to the spinal cord
and then finally reaches the brain where it processes what has happened and associates that with pain.
However, it is difficult to define exactly what pain is because it varies with each person. While it may
seem simple, the process of detecting pain is complicated by the fact that it is not a one way system. It
isn t even a two way system. Pain is more than just cause and effect: it is affected by everything else
that is going on in the nervous system. Your mood, your past experiences and your expectations can
all change the way pain is interpreted at any given time (Jacques).
Sensory and Affective dimensions of Pain Multiple factors contribute to pain unpleasantness, and
several sensory attributes of pain can dispose the individual to unpleasant emotional feelings. The
foremost among these is that sensations of pain are often more intense than other types

  • 3. Black Social, Intellectual, And Political Boundaries Pan Africanism signifies the difficulties of black social, intellectual, and political notions over a two hundred year span. What establishes Pan Africanism, on the basic level, is the unity of Africans worldwide. Pan Africanists believe that the African people in its entirety, which includes the Diaspora and the African continent, does not just share common beginnings but also a common destiny. (Asante, 1976, p. 97) This ideology of an intertwined past and future of all the African people has however took many forms, as different thinkers feel that there are different methods in achieving African unity. Three great thinkers, W.E.B. Dubois, Marcus Garvey, and Malcolm X, were all leaders of their own Pan African movement which each contained their own element in achieving Pan Africanism. DuBois took a more academic stance which included the utilization of the elites, whereas Garvey and Malcolm X were more so grassroots organizers as they believed in the bottom up decision making rather than top down. To commence, Dr. William Edward Burghardt DuBois, better known as W.E.B. Dubois, is acknowledged as the Father of Pan Africanism. (Esedebe, 1971, p. 84) One of DuBois first movement towards Pan Africanism was his idea of the Talented Tenth. He felt that in order to save the Negro race it must be done by exceptional men. (Franklin, 2011, p. 301) Dubois believed that the development of the Negro race must be done through college education. This involved writing books, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Effects of Caffeine on Daphnia This experiment is to see The Affect of Caffeine on Daphnia. Daphnia is also known as a water flea. It is a distant relative of crabs and shrimps. (Marshall Cavendish, 2002) Daphnia have a hard external skeleton with jointed appendages and limbs. The head contains a large central eye which is made of two eyes joined together. Daphnia has two pairs of antennae which are used for swimming. Each daphnia has five pairs of limbs. These limbs lie in a certain space under the body bounded by the carapace. (Marshall Cavendish, 2002) A carapace is a hard upper shell or chitinous outer covering on the back of some animals. The daphnia is well preserved because of its shells which are composed of chitin. The usual size of this microorganism is about 0.2 0.3 mm; they look like flat disks. Their bodies are divided into three parts head, thorax, and abdomen. The head is typically dome shaped with five pairs of appendages. Among these five are two pairs of antennae; there is a small pair and a larger pair. The smaller pair of antennae serves as a sensory function and the larger one is used for swimming. The other three appendages purpose is to secure food they intake. (Michael Hutchins, 2003) The thorax holds four to six pairs of legs that are used for gathering food, filtering water, or grasping mates. There are over 400 species of daphnia and they are distributed worldwide. Daphnia uses their thoracic legs to produce a constant current of water; this allows them to filter food ... • 5. Modernism vs Neo-Traditionalism Essay Modernism vs Neo Traditionalism: A debate on the merits and failures of two major competing paradigms in architecture and urban planning. Beyond the term modernism underlies one of the greatest ideas in architectural development. Modernism was meant to provide more green areas, cheaper housing and more efficient use of space. This was to be accomplished by creating vertically dense spaces with the use of the new inventions of the nineteenth century, such as steel, glass, electricity and elevators. By decreasing costs of building, modernists hoped to provide cheaper housing, affordable to almost anybody. The modernist movement was also promising to meet the growing demand for office spaces, hence the motto ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Form follows function , said Sullivan, one of the founding fathers of modernism. As a response to mechanization and industrialization, modernism was extremely beneficial to companies that needed office space. To have a skyscraper built was a great investment on the company s side, not only did it provide the necessary office space, it also allowed to lease the remaining offices to other companies, thus making a profit. Modernism also appealed to the general population since the rise in birth rates provided a greater demand for housing. Many argued that same modular spaces would promote equality among its inhabitants. Modernism also promised to create more public spaces with green areas and waterworks by the virtue of vertical density. Supposedly, there would be more space. Not to forget, the building and maintenance costs of a modernist building were significantly less than that of a traditional one. However, nor Federal Plaza, a textbook modernist landscape, nor housing projects seem to have public spaces around them. Modernism was applied selectively, leaving out perhaps one of its most important functions. And although Mies van der Rohe did say the less is more in terms of ornamentation, there do not seem to be any sources that argue that modernist buildings have to be so redundant. There s no reason that modernist architecture and can not have some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Character Analysis Of Iago In Shakespeare s Othello Character Analysis of Iago As we read Othello in class, Iago reminded me of a character named Lotso from the movie Toy Story 3 that was released in 2010. During the movie, Lotso gained the trust of the toys at the daycare as well as Andy s toys. He then manipulated them and turned them against one another. In Othello, Iago manipulated his peers and pretended to be everyone s friend. They saw him as honest Iago and they never doubted anything he said. Iago also turned Othello against Desdemona and Cassio by using Othello s jealousy to upset him. Iago did all of this because he wanted to punish Othello for not choosing him as his lieutenant. He used Othello to remove Cassio from the chain of command so he could claim the position of lieutenant. These are the most apparent similarities between the two characters. As Cassio was chosen over Iago, Lotso felt like he was thrown away and replaced by a new bear as well. Lotso convinces the toys that they were forgotten and they needed to move on and go somewhere else so they could be appreciated (Unkrich, Toy Story 3). The toys believe Lotso and they stick together. They end up at a daycare and Lotso convinces everyone that they should let him be their leader. Likewise, Iago gets upset with Othello because he makes Cassio the lieutenant. Iago feels that he is more qualified for the job, and he has been fighting alongside Othello for years. Iago makes Othello believe that Cassio is sleeping with Desdemona, his wife. Iago ... • 7. Sex Tourism In Thailand Essay Sex tourism examines the issues that emerge from a sex worker (prostitute) and tourist (farang/customer) interactions. Sex Tourism is progressively spreading and it is now a worldwide subject matter that every country can relate to some way or the other. Sex tourism it has been around for decades and it has grown more widespread. This industry is very well understood by the tourist. It is not formally publicized; it is rather through informal exchanges, word of mouth and internet, that the farang gets to know who to see and where to go. In Thailand sex tourism is a main source of income for many rural families. These families are poor and the fact that the state of the economy of the country is bad it makes the situation worse. In this analytical essay, I will argue the cause and origin of prostitution as a result of the Current economic status in Thailand. Sex tourism, for the vast majority, conjures up an image of red light districts in places like Amsterdam and Patpong Bangkok. However, the historical backdrop of sex tourism dates back to the time of the industrial revolution era (1820s 1840s). During the Vietnam war, a large number of U.S soldiers were involved in the boom of the brothels industry and organized prostitutions. According to class lectures, the U.S government allowed the soldiers to go to Thailand for Rest and Recreation (R R). (holiday sex 6). • 8. A Teacher s Assistant For An Afterschool Program Essay As a teacher s assistant for an afterschool program called Good Grades Academy, I decided to the vocabulary as an extension of the classroom teacher s comprehension unit. My vocabulary game was based on a lesson involving literary elements for fifth grade students. I worked with a fifth grade student named Bartek who is eleven years old. His strengths lie in his ability to figure out challenging math problems, but he struggles in the areas of reading and comprehension. Bartek decoding skills are on par with his grade level, but his comprehension skills are representative of a third or fourth grade level. He cannot recall important information in the text and his writing responses are unrelated to the text. In addition, Bartek often lacks motivation and has difficulty completing his work. He cannot sit still and disturbs the other students working in the classroom. When asked to complete work related tasks he states that it is too difficult and is inattentive when receiving instruction. I decided to play the vocabulary game with him because it would be a fun and interactive way to help him learn words. After the students in the afterschool program finish assigned work they are allotted time for fun activities, so I used this opportunity to implement the vocabulary game. The purpose of my game was to clarify literary elements that Bartek was working on understanding. As stated in the Core manual Knowing about story structure provides a framework that helps students to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. America s Changing Fringe Economy Part I: Chapter 1: America s Changing Fringe Economy In Chapter 1 it goes into depth with a multiple definitions of the fringe economy and how profitable the fringe economy is. This chapter also provides information pertaining the involvement of mainstream financial institutions that would have been guessed. It talks about how 22,000 payday lenders extended more than $25 billion in short term loans to millions of struggling households in 2004. Also it went over how 11,000 check cashing stores alone processed 180 million checks, which would equal to about $55 Billion. With payday lenders out numbering other local stores and restaurants it is allowing them to be at every corner in low income neighborhoods making it convenient and pushing banks out of the area. For example, straight out of the book it describes how McDonald s has only 13,500 U.S. restaurants, Burger King has 7624, Target has 1,250 stores, Sears has 1,970, J.C. Penney has about 1,000 locations, and the entire Wal Mart retail chain includes about 3,600 U.S. outlets. All of these combined 29,000 locations are fewer than the nation s 33,000 check cashing and payday lenders, just two sectors of the fringe economy. Chapter 2: Why the Fringe economy is Growing In Chapter 2 the author, Karger, defines another component of the fringe economy, the customers and provides an in depth explanation of each factors contributing to the fringe economy s growth. • 13. The Consequences Of King Henry VIII King Henry VIII Tudor was greedy, selfish and a very ambitious man in his time. Anything that Henry wanted, he would strive to make sure that he received it and it happened, no matter what the costs were. This includes divorcing all of his wives, even though such divorces were against Catholics theologies. Reigning between 1509 and 1547, Henry VIII became the most famous king for all of the wives he ended up marrying and then divorcing. This issue was so popular during Henry s reign, that a rhyme was even created to summarize the fates of all of his wives, divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived, but what was the real reason Henry decided to divorce, and sometimes behead, his wives? Henry would say that he divorced his wives because they cheated him in the relationship, they tricked Henry into marrying them out of love or the marriage was not a valid one. But in all actuality, Henry VIII only married to get something out of the relationship that would benefit himself or how he controlled his country. If his wife did not provide what he wanted and needed, he would divorce her and move on to the next wife. This tactic was shown through his first wife Queen Katherine of Aragon in the letters that Cardinal Campeggio wrote about the King s personal marriage situation to Queen Katherine, known as The King s Matter. Cardinal Campeggio, himself, wrote in a letter to Pope Clement VII, about the time King Henry privately came to him asking about an annulment. Campeggio wrote that he talked to Henry for four hours discussing two matters. The first was why Henry should not go through with the annulment of his marriage with Queen Katherine. Campeggio suggested that he should not seek an annulment because it would only start trouble within the country because it would look scandalous. Campeggio stated, I exhorted him not to attempt this matter, in order to confirm and clear his conscience, to establish the succession of the kingdom and to avoid scandals. Campeggio also suggested that seeking an annulment would only increase tension and Henry should worry about more about pressing issues, such as finding an heir, but little did Campeggio know, annulling Henry s marriage to Queen Katherine was ... • 15. Driving While Driving And Driving Driving and Distraction In an age dominated by technology, an individual s cell phone is a very important device for the function of day to day tasks. Whether driving to the grocery store, driving to work, or driving to a friends house, chances are you have used your cell phone at least once while operating a vehicle, but is this dangerous? Simultaneously driving and the use of a cell phone is deemed illegal in many states under the presumption that it is a distraction to driving. This legislation is usually preconceived under the notion that the distraction comes from peripheral factors associated with the use of a cell phone and not the conversation on the cell phone itself. Past research measured individuals who were using a cell phone prior to an accident, but this questions validity. These individuals whom used a cell phone before an accident could be prone to more risky behavior on the road and not due to the use of the cell phone itself. Other research attempted to measure distraction with phone conversations, but relied on arithmetic, reasoning, and mental tasks, all which are not of a typical phone conversation. Research conducted in 2001 by Strayer and Johnston aimed to resolve these issues by measuring the extent in which the use of cell phone by conversation interferes with driving and the underlying factors for the interference. This research is of utmost importance because individuals could not only be putting their self at risk when using a cellphone while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Banking Fraud And The Banking Industry A banking fraud is the use of illegal means to gain money, assets from depositors or clients fraudulently while posing as a bank, agent or any other financial institution. In many countries and especially the United States, bank fraud is a criminal offense even though experts refer to it as a white collar crime due to the manner in which it is carried out. The reason why one variable effects another does not always occur in isolation, there are both mediating and moderating variables that may influence a causal relationship. Mediating Variables They are a necessary third variable between two items. That is, without mediating variable, b , variable a will not produce a specific effect on variable, c. (Crano Brewer, 2002) Moderating variables A third variable that can either enhance or suppress a relationship. Its existence does not cause a specific relationship to occur. (Crano Brewer, 2002) These concepts are similar in the sense that they both have an effect on the relationship but are different in the sense that mediating variables are necessary in order for the relationship to exist and moderating variables merely suppress or enhance the quality of an existing relationship; that is, the relationship exists on its own but is either enhanced or suppressed by the moderating variable. The French finally push through and took La Haye Sainte (the estate in the center of the Battlefield) but, this would end up being a small victory in a battle that would have an inevitable outcome. The British retreated their men, behind the ridge, in an attempt to hide them from the French viewpoint. • 24. Analysis Of When Dreams Come True Art is the expression of one s creative skill, which can be expressed in many different forms. Sculptures, paintings, clothing, music, and poems are just a few of the vast art forms. Artwork comes not only in different forms, but different styles as well, such as abstract, representational, and nonrepresentational styles, which are some of the most common in the world of art. When it comes to the history, medium, and technique of an artwork, there are two specific pieces that really stand out to me. When Dreams Come True by Leonid Afremov and Mariposa by Beatriz Milhazes are two masterfully crafted works of art that caught my eye almost immediately. Leonid Afremov is a modern impressionistic style of an artist. Impressionist paintings seek to recreate the viewer s or artists general impression of a depicted scene. The style is generally characterized by faint outlines and small brushstrokes of various colors, that the eye tends to blend together at a distance. Representational is a word commonly used to describe art forms that relate to the natural world in which we live in and are easily translated by the audience, which is exactly what Leonid Afremov did with When Dreams Come True while using abstract, or out of the ordinary, colorways. The history behind this artwork is shown in the 19th century impressionistic style that is used as well as the vibrant and contrasting colors used. Afremov took advantage of this color palette in order to get a message across that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
