Hemodialysis Diet Analysis
A personalized hemodialysis diet would be required when kidneys function fails due to kidney
disease.1 With diseased kidneys it is difficult to get rid of wastes (e.g. protein) from the body.1 A wide
range of lifestyle changes are needed in chronic kidney disease patients, especially diet.2 The diet plan
for each individual is different, but for the most part CKD patients need to monitor their protein,
sodium, potassium, phosphorus, and fluid intake on a continual basis.1 3 Buildup of waist products
and fluid in particular make the dialysis process more difficult because you re needing to draw more
fluid from the body. Therefore, it is very important for CKD patients to limit the amount of sodium
and fluid intake in their diet.3 To much sodium ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The easy parts of following the diet for hemodialysis were creating my DaVita account and
planning/choosing my meals for the day using the diet helper planner and tracker through myDaVita
menu. There were a lot of challenges and barriers that I faced when doing this challenge. For instance,
not having all of the ingredients to prepare the meals and deciding what foods my family would eat.
For breakfast, I chose to go with the apple smoothie with raisin toast. The problem with this meal was
that, I usually put bananas and milk in smoothies. This smoothie did not have bananas and milk
because of the high amount of potassium and phosphorus which needs to be monitored in CKD
patients. Some of the ingredients like the flaxseeds and the butter were omitted from this recipe
because they were not available. For lunch, I chose the chicken broccoli pasta toss because we all like
chicken. Here again some ingredients were omitted (raisin and cider vinegar) because family members
had issues with them and other ingredients were substituted (e.g. regular mayonnaise instead of the
low sodium, low calorie). For dinner, I chose the oven baked fish with rice because we usually have
fish once a week. Unfortunately, I had to omit or substitute some of the ingredients for this meal as
well. The vinegar, red wine, and corn flakes were omitted and the butter and Egg Beaters were
replaced with oil and separated egg

Analysis Of Bless The Beasts And The Children
The book Bless The Beasts and The Children is an adventure fiction book. Adventure fiction means a
genre of fiction in which an adventure, an exciting undertaking involving risk and physical danger The
book was originally published in 1970, and was written by Glendon Swarthout. The setting of the
book begins at a summer camp in Prescott, Arizona called Box Canyon Boys Camp. This setting is
important and adds meaning to the story because if it did not take place at the summer camp none of
the main characters would have met each other, and the book would take place somewhere else. There
are six main characters in the book, John Cotton, who is a 16 year counselor at the camp who is the
leader of the group. Gerald Goodenow, who is a 14 year old boy who has a lot of emotional problems,
when he was 4 his father died, he also has a phobia of school. Sammy Schecker, is a boy from New
York, his father is a rich comedian, he also likes to eat a lot. Lawrence Theft, III, is a 14 year old boy
who is also from New York, he is also very rebellious, and steals cars often. Stephen Lally, Jr., is the
older brother of Billy Lally, and goes by Lally 1 he has a very violent behavior one time when John
Cotton did not let him send a letter home he killed everyone in the cabins pets. and Billy Lally, who is
the younger brother of Stephen Lally, he goes by Lally 2, he is also the youngest in the group. His

How To Create Suspense In Ray Bradbury s Graveyard For...
Ray Bradbury brings life to each and every book he writes including his book a Graveyard for
Lunatics. This is an exciting mystery/ thriller that literally brings the pages to life, along with the
characters and overall story. Graveyard for Lunatics can be placed in many different genres but the
more suited is mystery. Mystery is all about how they reveal the ending to you, they make you guess
yourself and it creates suspense along the way. I will unravel the mystery of what is really underneath
this book and all the hidden terms that come with it. The book commences in Hollywood at Maximus
films set across the street from a graveyard. A writer that works at the company receives a letter that
tells him to go to the cemetery after work. He decides to go late at night, only to find a man on a
ladder frozen dead. As lightning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once he arrived he found himself in front of the former boss of the Maximus film company. But that s
not where the excitement happens. The climax is when Roy gets fired from his job at the studios and
is found in his apartment hanging from his ceiling. When his friend dies he begins to look for the
killer. The language and detail that is crammed into this one book is outstanding.an example might be
The Beast towered over him, his fists trembling, his body rocking back and forth, in and out of
control. Page 68. It describes every element and literary terms that are in here but also figures out a
way to make it short to the point. This example is shown on page 11 which tells of a flashback of him

Biomedical Research Synthesis Essay
The source Limits on Risks for Healthy Volunteers in Biomedical Research states that the Yellow
Fever Tests were meant to find the cause of the spread of Yellow Fever. This is important to this
argument because it shows that there are necessary risks in order to make good progress. Even though
the some of the volunteers died from Yellow Fever, it allowed scientists to find the vector (mosquitos).
This test is used by both sides to support their argument. Pro restriction people use it as a showing of
the inherent risk of biomedical testing, while anti restriction people use it as a showing of the results
outweighing the costs. A mix of both sides should be put in place. As stated in the last post, a
restriction such as Soft Paternalism should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, healthy people tend to not take the same risks as people who are in desperate need of the
product being tested. The only biomedical testing as of now, that should not be restricted from people
is DNA Microarrays. According to DNA Microarrays: a Powerful Genomic Tool for Biomedical and
Clinical Research, the microarrays can detect diseases and other deformities. Microarray technologies
are now used for comparing other genome features, among individuals and their tissues and cells,
(DNA Microarrays) This current use could be used to find new diseases that should not be present.
This would allow scientists to compare a sick person with a healthy person, and find exactly what is
wrong. What determines a healthy person would need to be debated and figured out. Scientists plan on
using this technology to quickly diagnose a disease and implement therapeutic interventions. Scientist,
by using various regression models such as the Kaplan Meier model (Figure 5), have been figuring out

Different Types Of Cell Research
HSC Research Paper
From brain cells to skin cells, our body is made up of 200 different types of specialized cells. One of
the most versatile types of cell is a stem cell. Stem cells are cells that have not been specialized yet; in
other words, they do not have a specific job. For example, nerve cells work to send signals throughout
your body, while stem cells do not have any specific functions. But they do possess the ability to
develop into all of the other different types of specialized cells in our body. With regenerative abilities,
stem cells are capable of renewing themselves through cell division and when the stem cell divides to
create another cell, the new cell has the potential to either stay a stem cell or differentiate into a ...

For over 40 years, they have been used to successfully treat the cancers of blood, including lymphoma
and leukemia. HSCs have showed a widespread of potential clinical uses and today, researchers
continue to advance their knowledge of stem cells and dig deeper with hopes of widening the clinical
uses of HSCs.
The first evidence of HSCs came from victims of the nuclear bombing in 1945. Research indicated
that the victims, who died over a prolonged period, had compromised hematopoietic systems; in other
words, their bodies were unable to regenerate either white blood cells to protect against infections or
platelets to clot their blood. To further their understanding, an experiment was conducted on mice, in
which they were exposed to radiation, identical to the citizens of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The mice,
which were given the minimal lethal dose, died of hematopoietic failure during the two weeks
following after the radiation exposure, similar to the citizens. Scientists later discovered that they
could rescue the mice from hematopoietic failure by injecting cells from blood forming organs of
healthy mice. This discovery uncovered the importance of the hematopoietic system and its functions,
such as the bone marrow s role in the regeneration of blood and immune cells.
Early research of HSCs primarily focused on characterizing HSCs from other cells. Identifying and
differentiating HSCs from other cells proved to be easier said than done,

DC Circuits Analysis and Design
Alexander Glover, z3422512
Abstract
DC circuit analysis and design, play a massive role in electrical engineering and without the correct
application of theory and practise in unison, nothing can be achieved in a true engineering sense.
Engineering requires theory to develop and test constraints while also requiring practical application
of theory in order to determine tolerance and practical results for industry purposes. The ability to
analysis a circuit gives a potential electrical engineer the ability to learn how to problem solve in a
theoretical and practical sense which in turn develops industry skills in which will follow them for
life, and allow a solid knowledge base ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
KCL is defined as: The algebraic sum of the currents into any point of the circuit must equal the
algebraic sum of all the currents out of that point. Otherwise, charge would accumulate at the point,
instead of having a conducting path [ (Grob, 1977) ].
KVL is similarly defined as: For each mesh followed continuously in its tracing direction the algebraic
summation of all the instantaneous voltage drops is zero (Pike, 1971).
Where a mesh is defined as a loop that does not contain any other loops [ (Nilsson, 2011) ] and a loop
is defined as a path whose last node is in the same as the starting node [ (Nilsson, 2011) ] and a node is
defined as a point where two or more circuit elements join [ (Nilsson, 2011) ].
KVL, KCL and Ohm s Law are all important tools for circuit analysis, especially using the node
voltage method. A worked example for KCL and Ohm s law is included for Figure 1 next; which can
also be directly applied to that of KVL in the same manner in place of KCL.
Figure 1: Simple dual voltage source (V1 and V2) circuit, with three resistors (R1, R2 and R3) and
four nodes (N1, N2, N3, N4).
From Figure 1, using KCL it can be said that at node two:
i1+ i2= i3 (A) (2)
Which can then be substituted for Ohm s law to give:
Va VbR1+Vc VbR2= VbR3 (V) (3)
When values are then substituted into equation three,

Difference Between Plant And Animal Cells
CELL OBSERVATION LAB
By Alexandra Escaja Heiss, Ashley Reeves, Christine Constant
Period G1/B3a Living Systems
10/22/15
Purpose To identify the difference between plant and animal cells, recognize their structures, and to
better understand the various functions of those cell organelles.
II. Background In 1665 Robert Hooke used an early light microscope to look at a thin slice of cork.
Under the microscope the cork looked to have thousands on empty chambers, which Hooke noted
looked like cells , so he coined the term.
Anton van Leeuwenhoek was a Dutch scientist who was named the father of microbiology. He was the
first person to look at living cells and bacteria under a slightly more advanced single lens microscope
in 1676 and 1683.
Matthias Schleiden was a German scientist who observed different plants in the late 1830 s. His
observations concluded that the plants were all composed of cells. Another German scientist, Theodor
Schwann, observed that animals were also composed of cells.
Later on, Rudolf Virchow concluded that the nucleus was the structures responsible for cell division,
which created the third part of the cell theory, stating that all cells came from other pre existing cells.
The Cell Theory is as follows
1. All organisms are composed of one or more cells
2. The cell is the basic unit of structure in organisms
3. All cells come from pre existing cells

Difference Between Truth And Story Truth
I want you to feel what I felt. I want you to know why story truth is truer sometimes than happening
truth (O Brien 171). When telling a story, people often exaggerate details, characters and other events
in the story in order to make it more interesting. Why do people do this? Do they do it because they
feel that the story lacked something and needs to be expanded upon, or is it something else. This way
of telling a story is especially prevalent in Tim O Brien s book The Things They Carried, which is a
collection of stories about the Vietnam war. Throughout the text, O Brien uses repetition, oxymorons,
and imagery to illustrate the differences between story truth and happening truth to the reader. In order
for something to be ingrained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When O Brien defines story truth and happening truth, he often uses oxymorons to establish the point
that these two ideas are extremely complicated. When O Brien uses an oxymoron, it s usually when he
wants to make a point on the fact that both of these truths aren t exactly true, like when he says, In
many cases a true war story cannot be believed. If you believe it, be skeptical. It s a question of
credibility. Often the crazy stuff is true and the normal stuff isn t, because the normal stuff is necessary
to make you believe the truly incredible craziness. (68). What he is essentially saying is, when
creating a story, adding believable parts is neccessary for a story to make sense. Another time he
explains that regardless of how good a story seems to be, there has to be parts made up because a true
war story is never good, A true war story is never moral. It does not instruct, nor encourage virtue, nor
suggest models of proper human behavior, ... If a story seems moral, do not believe it. If at the end of
a war story you feel uplifted, ... then you have been made the victim of a very old and terrible lie (O
Brien 65). This leads back in to the differences between happening and story truth, by explaing the
way that story truth is used to ground a story in reality for a reader, rather than simply expanding on
details like in happening truths. O Briens use of Oxymorons, although rarely used, show that he is
fully aware of the contradictory

activity amongst the Year 9 cohort. Around half of the Year 9s I taught at SIDE were referral students;
referral students come from a wide range of backgrounds and have a variety of physical, social and
cognitive disabilities. I really enjoyed the challenges of working with most of these students, however,
when a few of my referral students volunteered for the National History Challenge I was nervous, as
these were not students whom I would have selected for additional extra curriculum work. Most of
these students had high levels of anxiety and stress, which is why they were in the referral program,
consequently I had some concerns about the pressure the challenge might have placed on them. I
worked hard with these students, offering small group SABA classes to allow them to collaborate,
sharing their ideas and providing each other with constructive feedback. I also scheduled fortnightly
individual check in meetings where we discussed their progress and developed individual work
completion plans. Their interest and enthusiasm for their selected topics really reinforced how
important it is to set high expectations for all students regardless of circumstances.

Sense And Sensibility Essay
Kate Hamill s Sense and Sensibility, under the direction of Taiba Magar, provided a compelling
experience into modern theatre. The performance presents an in depth look into 1790s England and
the emergence of the sensibility movement, a response to the growing tensions of the time. Utilizing
costuming, lighting, effective story telling, and stage design, Sense and Sensibility highlights the
social pressures of the 1790s through Elinor and Marianne, the story s protagonists. While performed
on the same stage as The Cake, it told a very different story. Instead of modern day Winston Salem, it
took place in England in the late 18th century. It tells of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne,

Popular Musical Development And Societal Development
The Start of Tropicalismo
Popular musical development and societal development are usually parallel with one another. Artists
and musicians can change a society and have an enormous impact on how a country runs itself. A
good example of how a country can be influenced by new, innovative music would be the
Tropicalismo movement. Caetano Veloso is a Brazilian musician that started the Tropicalia movement
and created music that combined many elements of different music together, and Veloso did this with
other tropicalists. The background of Caetano Veloso, the two songs Caetano Veloso produced,
information about Tropicalia, and the background of Brazil can help us comprehend how music has a
great impact and influence on society. Tropicalia is more than just a music genre produced in the late
1960s, but a social political movement that radically changed the way Brazilians saw contemporary
Brazilian music.
Caetano Veloso s start as a Brazilian musician was back in 1942 when Veloso finished school in Santa
Amaro, and he moved to Salvador where he learned how to play the guitar and sing. (Veloso, Caetano)
Veloso would spend his time at bars with his sister and perform music for people s entertainment.
Veloso met Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil, and Tom Zé in 1963 where they started musical shows as a group.
(Veloso, Caetano) One of the musical shows that they started was Vila Velha theatre with Veloso
directing the theatre. In 1965, Veloso left Federal University of Bahia to go to Rio de

have learned that the key system concepts are: shared vision, shared reality, people, parts,
interrelationships, leverage, adaptability and iterative learning.1 The article: Grand Junction,
Colorado: A Health Community That Works, is an example of a patient centered medical home that

Shared Reality: Not only did the medical community share a vision, they also shared data through the
Quality Health Network (QHN)2. They developed an IT system that is still in the infancy stages in the
rest of the United States where data is shared between various providers. There is a common network
that providers are able to log into and see other providers notes and care plans. This sharing of
information has decreased the performance of duplicate tests/procedures and has decreased the costs
and increased the quality of care that patients in the Grand Junction community receive. The
information in the shared data system was also used to promote transparency of data on physician
performance to formulate a health care model that focused on the patient and through peer pressure,
caused the providers to strive for better outcomes. People: We have learned that the United States is
lacking providers in the primary care field but Grand Junction actually has an increased number of
PCPs in their community, and this has allowed them to manage their patient s care more in depth.2
Having the social service groups to assist with necessary patient follow up and home care has also
worked favorably for them. In addition, they have highly motivated individuals that are seeking to
make a change in the way that health care is delivered. This is the most important aspect of the whole
system, because without these vital players, the system would

The History of John Deere
John Deere History
John Deere has seen many changes since its founding in 1837. It began with a polished piece of steel
that became a plow, and from that humble beginning an agricultural powerhouse was formed. John
Deere has created many tractors and farming instruments that have made farmers lives easier. John
Deere has delivered superior products to the world of agriculture. Agriculture has improved
immensely due to product technology and innovation. (expand)
John Deere was an accomplished blacksmith known for his craftsmanship and creativity during the
years farming was really taking off (Broehel). In 1830 he moved west settling in Grand Detour, Illinois
where his blacksmith business, consisting of primarily of making horseshoes and wagon wheels grew.
He noticed the plows the pioneers brought from the east were having trouble in the hard soil. Thats
when he made his first plow out of a broken saw blade. He was hoping his new design would cut the
soil better and it did (1). His invention sold so fast he could not keep up with the demand. He knew he
needed to expand, so he moved his business to a new location in Moline, Illinois where he had more
room and access to water to power his equipment.
In 1843 John Deere ordered a shipment of steel from England because it was less expensive. However,
it was still an enormous cost and prevented him from continuing to expand his new operation in
Moline (Deere Company 1). Three years later he was able to get his steel made in

The cognitive explanation acknowledges the role of biological factors in schizophrenia, suggesting

Further features of the disorder emerge as people try to make sense of the hallucinations.

The intention is to show schizophrenics that their hallucinations are not real. As yet, however, there is
no evidence that this will provide a successful treatment.
The research by Brown and Birley was a retrospective study where data is collected after events have
occurred. In other words, once a person had developed schizophrenia they were asked about events
leading up to the onset. It is quite likely that recall would be negatively affected by the events
surrounding the onset of schizophrenia so such evidence may be unreliable.
Prospective studies are preferable, where people are studied after the onset of the disorder. Hirsch et al
followed 71 schizophrenic patients over a 48 week period. It was clear that life events made a
significant cumulative (increasing) contribution in the 12 months preceding relapse rather than
immediately prior to the schizophrenic episode. This does support the retrospective research.
However, not all research supports the importance of life stressors. For example, Van Os et al reported
no link between life events and the onset of schizophrenia. In the prospective part of the study,
patients who had experienced a major life event went on to have a lower incidence of relapse rather
than an increased risk as predicted.
One criticism of this research is that it is correlational. Therefore, we cannot infer a causal

Natural and Sexual Selection of Vestigial and Wild Type Drosophila melanogaster
Abstract
In this experiment, vestigial flies as well as wild type flies were used to create some diversity as well
as test one of our hypotheses. Our hypotheses are as follows; 1) The wild type flies will have a greater
relative fitness compared to the vestigial flies based on only sexual selection. The wild type has a
relative fitness of 1 since it has fully functional wings. Vestigial Winged flies are not as sexually
appealing since their wings are not functional and the wing movement is a vital part of their mating
ritual. 2) The vestigial fly will have a greater relative fitness when considering both sexual and natural
selection. With the presence of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the presence of natural selection (fly paper hanging from top of cage) posing a larger threat to
the wild flies b/c they can fly better, this will allow vestigial flies to prosper better.
Materials and Methods
To set up this experiment, two twenty five gallon aquariums, 3 petri dishes, 200 flies, rotten bananas,
and yeast were used. The bananas chosen to be an accelerant for the growth of the yeast and were
frozen so they would be easier to cut. The yeast was used because the drosophila melanogaster prefer
this as a food source. The vestigial and wild type flies were sexed (to determine their sex), sorted, and
counted. An initial population size of 100 total flies was decided so that it would be easier to
determine the phenotypic percentage of the total population. Fly paper was placed in one of the sets of
cages to impose a method of natural selection as well as the sexual selection which is being solely
tested by the other set of cages.
It was decided that there would be 80 vestigial flies and 20 wild type flies to total to an initial
population of 100 drosophila. Next, the flies were anesthetized flies using Fly Nap. The flies were

Does Racism Still Exist
While it is true that we as a society have come a long way since slavery there is no doubt that racism
still exists, affecting both certain individuals and the wider community. Surely, more and more people
are being informed about the consequences and issues of modern day racism, and although there has
been a decrease in reported hate crimes toward people of color since 2013 according to the FBI, the
question still stands is everyone a racist deep down?
One could argue that evolution plays a big part in this, considering that thousands of years ago, our
ancestors had to stick with a familiar group of humans and work together for a better chance at
survival. Evolutionary racism refers to Charles Darwin s evolutionary theory, which assumes that with
species continually evolving, similarly, some races have evolved further than others, therefore causing
racism to have grown deeply rooted in our genetics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This indicates that no matter if a person is actively racist, as in repeating racial slurs or committing
hate crimes, a person will still benefit from the system as long as he or she is not black. There even
exists a certain degree of colorism in the African American community, where light skinned African
Americans are preferable to those with darker skin, especially in the media. In conjunction with the
structural racism, the internalized racism that exists within the community is just as big of an issue.
One study, made by psychologists Kenneth and Mamie Clark, illustrated how racism damaged young
black children by making them choose between two dolls, one white and one

Examples Of Hyperbole In Walden
Thoreau describes nature thoroughly which demonstrates how legendary of a writer he truly was. He
kept the reader engaged, hypnotizing them with the text. His writings were adaptable, skillful in
communicating explicit reality into solid language. He demonstrated proactive details within indirect
nuance. He proficiently uses diverse techniques of literature, such as a hyperbole, exaggeration, and
irony. For an example of a hyperbole in Walden is the hyperbole is How many a poor immortal soul
have I met well nigh crushed and smothered under its load, creeping down the road of life, pushing
before it a barn seventy five feet by forty, its Augean stables never cleansed, and one hundred acres of
land, tillage, mowing, pasture, and woodlot! . What makes it a hyperbole is in the barn and on the one
hundred acres of land, one can be overpowered in a substantial burden, but one would certainly not
shove whole structures and landscapes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the start of chapter 5, Solitude, Thoreau is describing the wind and the surface of the lake as night
comes upon it. Sympathy with the fluttering alder and poplar leaves almost takes away my breath; yet,
like the lake, my serenity is rippled but not ruffled. These small waves raised by the evening wind are
as remote from storm as the smooth reflecting surface Walden. He uses a simile to make comparisons
that create visual imagery. The journal is a fascinating read, because he uses the imagination within
realism. His journal is one of uniqueness. Thoreau carried out significant capabilities when he applied
resources to his art. He had a strong vocabulary and a facility for manipulating words; he even created

Alcoholism and Angela s Ashes
Alcoholism and Angela s Ashes
Alcoholism is one of the most common disorders in the world today. It is a disease, a sickness that
harms the body and the mind in the most violent ways possible. The body is racked by a need to
suffice its desire, and this leads addicts to do anything to get the alcohol into their systems. In Angela s
Ashes, alcoholism is a major theme, and becomes the destroyer of the families and loved ones that are
involved.
In Angela s Ashes, the father Malachy is inflicted with the disease of alcoholism, and his need for the
drink leads him to use his paycheck to buy alcohol instead of using it for the basic needs of his family.

Alcoholism is truly crippling, and he does a great job in getting this across. And in some ways,
Malachy s alcoholism helped his children—by showing them the tragic consequences of choosing a
life for the drink. From his mistakes, he children can learn and avoid alcohol.
Alcoholism is a demon, a disease, something reached for out of desperation. It helps with a person s
problem by deadening their senses, and increasing his problems at the same time by destroying his
character. When you drink, you don t have to think about all your problems, you can just let the
alcohol wash them away from your mind. But it can never take away all your problems—they still
remain, just your sense to care for them is gone. Alcoholism has a great chance to pass on to later
generations, but sometimes growing up in an alcoholic family will make the children swear off the
drink because they have seen what it can turn people into. It turns them into the basic raw human
emotion of grief. They are miserable for alcohol is the only thing that can make them feel normal after
awhile, their entire bodies ache for it. Even when they have given up drinking, their bodies can revert
back after having just one drop again. Yes, alcoholism is truly a terrifying disease of the mind and
body—not just to the addict, but also to the loved ones

Main Themes In Ayn Rand s Novel The Fountainhead
Main Theme) The novel The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, has many themes that are represented
throughout. However, one of the most prominent moments in the novel which relates most strongly
with the themes of The Fountainhead was when Ellsworth Toohey confronts Howard Roark and says,
Mr. Roark, we re alone here. Why don t you tell me what you think of me? To which Roark replies,
But I don t think of you. This brief exchange of words between the two men tells all there is about the
themes of Ayn Rand s novel. Roark s statement conveys the themes of the nature of reality, integrity,
and individualism.
To start with, Howard Roark s statement to Ellsworth Toohey really conveyed the theme of the nature
of reality. The nature of reality fits in with the main theme of Ayn Rand s objectivism. This idea of the
nature of reality is certain and absolute. Howard believes that facts are facts. It doesn t matter what
anyone else thinks. Nobody s goals, fears, hopes, or needs matter. Howard believes that his thinking
and thoughts must be practical and everything he does is based on this philosophy. Howard doesn t
care about what societies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Howard s integrity has a direct link to his sense of individualism. In the novel, it is virtually every man
for his or herself. The only opinion that should matter is their own, and they must reject everyone else
s opinion, hence refusing to conform to society s opinions. When Howard states that he does not think
of Toohey at all, he is embracing his individuality. Howard finds him irrelevant, and his opinion of
him doesn t matter at all because the only thing that matters is what Howard thinks of himeself. In
order for Roark to be his own person and not conform to society s standards, he must act selfishly.
Howard s sense of individuality is one of the greatest virtues he can possess along with his

An Inquiry into the Dilemma of the Turkish Language Essay
Turkish is one of the youngest and rapidly developing languages; furthermore approximately 80
million people speak Turkish as a mother language in the world. 1928 was a very crucial year for the
development of the Modern Turkish language because Latin alphabet adopted instead of Arabic script
and after this transition numerous events sequentially shape the Turkish language. On the other hand,
the use of contemporary the Turkish language triggers some concerns. Although the Turkish language
has been searching ways out for sophisticated dilemmas since 1920 s, it confronts historical, political,
cultural issues and risk of losing originality, degeneration of quality and misuse in the media; as a

discourse persecuted to the community. Until the liberalization period, those kinds of pressures and

Fairy Hood Song
Fairy Tales change. They are constantly molding to fit modern standards and expectations. The story
of Little Red Riding Hood follows this pattern. Over the years innumerable variations have been
created. Used by many, the story of Little Red Riding Hood has debuted in print, games, tv, painting,
and song. Some adaptations fit into the category of a fairy tale while others branch out into other
genres. The song Lil Red Riding Hood by Sam the Sham the Pharaohs exemplifies the use of the story
of Little Red Riding Hood. Although the song and story possess distinct differences, Lil Red Riding
Hood is a fairy tale because it contains magic, uses key characters, and develops the plot. It is also a
metaphor describing a timeless situation.
Sam the Sham the Pharaohs sing a piece which uses the metaphor of Little Red Riding hood and the
wolf to portray a couple s romantic situation. Some may state that a song cannot also be considered a
fairy tale, but that is an incorrect assumption. A fairy tale is a fictional story which includes magical
characters or situations. Fairy tales have some parts that have changed over the years and some that
have stayed the same. The stories evolve over time to fit their audience. Modern writers are not the
first to edit and reformat old tales. Lydialyle Gibson, author of How Fairy Tales Lost Their Magic ,

Ethical Issues In Erin Brockovich
Erin Brockovich was a poor, jobless, single mother with three children. In the beginning of the movie,
her car was hit by a surgeon. When she goes to court, the surgeon s lawyer accuses her lying and
trying to steal money from the wealthy doctor. The lawyer uses Erin s status as a poor, single, twice
divorced mother in order to make the jury believe that she is lying. Furthermore, the surgeon s lawyer
talks down to her because she is a woman and dresses in tight, skimpy clothing. The overarching
problem in the movie was the contamination of the water in Hinkley, California. The water was
contaminated by a substance called chromium VI by the water company, PG E. Chromium VI is
highly toxic to human beings and the company, knowing how toxic it is, dumps it into the water that
the residents use. When Erin finds out about the chromium VI in the water, she begins by bringing it
to the attention of the families who may have been affected by it.
Regarding this, Erin takes an objectivist approach, knowing that the chromium levels are too high and
could potentially (and already did) cause life threatening diseases for the people of Hinkley. The
public s reaction was not exactly what she expected. Initially, some families seem skeptical and even
uncaring about the situation, but Erin is able to connect with the residents and gain their trust and
respect. This allows for them to truly begin questioning PG E s intentions. As for Erin gaining the
Hinkley residents trust, this can

Cons Of De-Extinction
Extinction is defined as: the state or situation that results when something, such as plant or animal
species, have died out completely (Merriam Webster). The World Wildlife Foundation, otherwise
known as the WWF, says that experts estimate that the loss of animals is estimated to be between
1,000 and 10,000 times higher than the natural extinction rate. Experts calculate that between 0.01 and
0.1% of all species become extinct each year. Although this may seem like quite low numbers it reality
is it quite large. If the lower estimate is correct, then out of the estimated two million species on the
planet, then an estimated two hundred and two thousand species will become extinct each year. If the
larger estimate is correct and that there are an estimated 100 million different species on the planet,
then that results in ten thousand and one hundred thousand species who become extinct each year
(WWF). Experts say that of all the species that existed on this planet, 99.9% are now extinct (PBS).
However, what if they could be brought back? Years ago, species such as the Pyrenean ... Show more

Invictus And The Rose That Grew From Concrete By Tupac
Obstacles. Everyone has been forced to overcome them at some point in their life. These obstacles
have shaped everyone and helped them become the person they are today. Challenges are a part of life
and everyone will face them at some point in their life, but it is how people handle it that determines
their future. This idea can be seen in many pieces of text including the following poems. Invictus by
William Ernest Henley and The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac both convey the idea that
obstacles are important in everyone s life and help shape everyone as a person on the way to their
dream.
Through Invictus William Ernest Henley shows that if people did not run into obstacles in their life,
no one would know who they truly are. The use of imagery shows this theme in that it allows the
readers to feel and see the pain that the writer is going through. For example, William Henley says, I
have not winced nor cried aloud./ my head is bloody, but unbowed (6 8). This device is being used to
demonstrate the difficult journey that the author was given to go on, in order reach his dream and be in
control of their life. It shows the theme of this poem because it speaks about the low points in a person
s life and about how by not giving in they become stronger. This device also shows that though they
have been beaten down multiple times they refuse to be broken. Another device that Henley uses is
diction. He uses this device to stress the importance of different words

Theme Of Psychoanism In Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights, published by Emily Brontë in 1847, tells a story of the history of Wuthering
Heights and the tragic love story that precedes it. The two central settings of the work, Thrushcross
Grange, and Wuthering Heights represent Freud s structural model of the human psyche: the id and the
superego. Because Freud s structural model presents the notion that internal conflict is inevitable, the
two settings illustrate the complexities of the human subconscious and the characters difficulty in
navigating them.
In Brontë s Wuthering Heights, the namesake setting of the book represents the Freudian id, by reason
of its primitive aspect in the work. In psychoanalytic theory, the id is responsible for the primal
instincts in humans, and almost always seeks immediate fulfillment. Early on in the novel, the primal
nature of Wuthering Heights exposes itself: the Gothic architecture of the house gives off a sense of
foreboding, the inside of the home lacks conventional furnishings, meat hangs from the kitchen
ceiling, and Lockwood, the narrator, notices a pile of dead rabbits in the living room. Lockwood calls
the atmosphere surrounding the house a tumult to which its station is exposed in stormy weather (5).
The description of the home reveals an underlying barbarity to it, similar to the id. The darkness in the
Heights mirrors location of the id in the human subconscious; the id is located deep in the recesses of
the human mind, so many humans who engage the id have no way to resist it. The tone of the work
shrouds the Heights in an antagonistic darkness, and the lack of conventionality coupled with the
turbulent weather serves as a physical manifestation of the id.
In contrast, Thrushcross Grange represents the superego due to the air of controlled refinement
surrounding the home. Freud s model defines the superego as the part of the mind that acts as a critical
self conscious, reflecting social standards learned through parents and teachers. The refined nature of
the house and its adherence to societal standards shows in its physical appearance. As he described the
appearance of Thrushcross Grange in the novel Heathcliff should have thought [himself] in heaven ,

My philosophy of eating or on how people should eat , is people should eat healthy . Like buying fresh

but it isn t good for you. People need to think about your body and how it will affect you later on in
life . Some people don t have the privilege to say what they want to eat , but you can flip that around
and actually put suggestions to your parents on what you want . Choose things wisely , check on how
it is grow and or processed , look at what s in the product . It s really all depends on how you want to
change about your eating habits.
People shouldn t eat junk food as in chips , cookies , fast food , greasy things in general . If you eat
them all the time start limiting your amount of product you serve yourself a day. Like with chips stop
eating the whole bag like some people , and only have a few a day . It sounds hard at first but once

Hairless Hypothesis
Why do humans have no fur?
The question of why humans became hairless has been a highly debated topic for centuries. Many
theories and hypothesis have been produced to account for why humans have no fur; some are
supported whilst others have been heavily criticised, none have been generally accepted. Questions
surrounding the subject include why have humans retained head and pubic hair? and why do females
have less hair in comparison to males?
Three leading theories include the body cooling hypothesis, the aquatic ape hypothesis and the
parasitic hypothesis. In this essay, I will present and evaluate some of these theories and attempt a
conclusion as to why humans shed their fur.
Introduction
Humans possess a unique and unusual trait found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parasites not only cause irritation and discomfort, but also carry viruses and diseases which could
prove to be fatal. Hairlessness would reduce parasitic load therefore reducing the likelihood of
diseases, viruses, infections and discomfort brought on by the parasites. This theory was first put forth
by Belt. However Charles Darwin (1888) rejected this hypothesis because it doesn t explain why only
humans lost their hair as ectoparasites are a problem to all primates.
Human intelligence grew as humans evolved, enabling humans to build fires, make shelters and
produce clothes, which could be washed or changed if infested with parasites. This meant that humans
were able to shed their hair, reducing ectoparasites while avoiding exposure to the sun, cold and other
weather conditions.
The only other example of this theory is the naked mole rat, which is the only other mammal that has
no fur and that doesn t live in an aquatic environment. The naked mole rat lives underground so has no
threat from exposure to sun and UV radiation. There is expected to be a high number of parasites
living in these colonies of naked mole rats however, their climate tends to regulate the negative effect
this would have on them; making hairlessness feasible for this

of these books were the Hebrew prophets, which makes sense because a Hebrew prophet is a

Pinchback Essay
Pinckney Benton Stewart Pinchback, commonly known as P.B.S. Pinchback, was the first African
American elected as a governor of a US state. Pinchback was born in Georgia in 1837 to a former
slave. As an adult, Pinchback volunteered for the military during the Civil War. At first, he served in
the First Louisiana Volunteers, which was an all white group then he left to create an all black
volunteer unit called the Corps d Afrique. After the war, Pinchback began his career in politics in New
Orleans. In 1968, he contributed to establishing Louisiana s new constitution during the state s 1868
Constitutional Convention. When Lieutenant Governor Oliver Dunn died in 1871, Pinchback took his
place. Shortly after, the governor of Louisiana at the time, Henry C. Warmouth, was impeached
causing Pinchback to become the new governor. Even though his term was only 36 days, he was able
to effectively govern by sanctioning 10 legislative bills. After his term as governor, Pinchback was
elected to the United States Senate but had his seat taken from him to due racially motivated actions.
Pinchback made history for his ability to obtain political power during the reconstruction era of the

The Crime Rate Of Crime
The huge crime drop suggests that also smaller amount of people are taking part in crime or that
people who do take part are obliging crimeless often. On the other hand a civilisation s rate of crime is
not a meek combination of the number of crime prone entities with specific psychological or
biological features. The impression that crime is communal rather than individual is a conspicuous
melody in much of the finest new fangled research. The crime drop partially imitates the effort of
organisations that are unambiguously intended to escalate social control, but then again it as well
imitates variations in further institutions aimed to achieve diverse societal purposes. No debate of
current U.S. crime inclinations would be comprehensive without bearing in mind the U.S. prison
inhabitants. For the reason that imprisonment rose so quickly, it is alluring to point the lion s segment
of the crime drop to the debilitating effects of prison. Numerous criminologists have faith that prisons
are in fact criminogenic in the long run, firming up criminal ties and unsettling non criminal chances
when convicts are unconfined. Looking at a study of the influence of imprisonment on crime,
sociologist Bruce Western guesses that coarsely nine tenths of the crime drop all through the 1990s
would have happened without any variations in imprisonment, (Western, 2006). Economist Steven
Levitt notes up to one third of the total drop to imprisonment. Increasing numbers of incarceration as a

Literary Analysis Of Mirror By Sylvia Plath
Some poems are exuberant, while, sometimes poems can be a cry of the heart. Written in 1961, Mirror
by Sylvia Plath is an emotional poem, successfully personified and narrated through a mirrors point of
view. Plath was an American literature figure that wrote poems, novels and several short stories.
During her life time, it was always noted that she was chronically gerontophobic, which is the fear of
growing old. Plath s poem represents a woman grappling with the reality of ageing and fear losing her
beauty. Plath unfolds...... Through the use of several different literary terms. Plath s poem is written in
stanzaic form of two stanzas each consisting of nine lines. The double stanza of the poem can be
interpreted as catoptric, since the poem is describing the reflections, while also describing its own
image. Likewise, both stanzas are equal in length to reflect each other, in that they both have little to
no sign of rhyme or rhythm, otherwise known as a free verse poem. The structure of Plath s poem
perhaps can serve to reflect the extended figure, for like the woman in this poem we too are entranced
by the product of its general simplicity. As Plath s poem shows no evidence of stressed and unstressed
syllable patterns or even complicated diction, the poem is written in such a way that, when spoken, it
naturally and exquisitely roles of the tongue. As a rhythm booster Plath takes advantage of adding in
phrases such as over and over and comes and goes, and in doing this attracts attention to the sound of
the word which in turn adds rhythm and flavor. In the beginning of the poem, the speaker starts out to
seem young and optimistic, seeing things exactly how they look on the surface, although it does not
judge what if feels or sees. The poem opens by describing a graven image of the speaker, silver and
exact (line 1), in which the poet felt compelled to immediately certify the speaker. By line 5, the
speaker becomes somewhat egotistical, calling itself the eye of a little god. This line displays the
mirrors god like powers over the woman looking into the mirror, as she feels eager to acquire a perfect
reflection of herself. The power of the mirror is so intnse that is causs the woman to turn to

Ultimately, the Common Man s double role provides the audience with thoughts and actions of
characters on and off the stage. Small roles are normally significant in stories but in A Man For All
Seasons the Common man proves that statement wrong. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He could be anyone in the audience at any given time, and his selfishness and craven come to be seen
as traits everyone has dealt with at one time.At the same time, the fast pace changing of roles come on
at faster rate as the play continues. At the end, he switches from More s jailer, to a juryman, to More s
executioner in a short time period, therefore exemplifying the abruptness at which some often find
themselves compiling in situations of which they do not in the end approve of.The Common Man also
implicates the audience by addressing us directly, as an interpreter, commentator, or narrorator. The
speeches that are delivered help keep the audience informed on past events and upcoming conflicts. In
addition, the personality of the other characters gives the audience insight into the story. The Common
Man s roles however minor still contribute greatly to the development of the story and, prove the
importance of this character. An excerpt that describes the Common Man is, The Sixteenth Century is
the Century of the Common Man . To show this, the Common Man plays a copious amount of roles
each one being a regular job. When playing the jailer, boatman, steward, and many more roles he

Interactional View Theory Essay
Theory: The Interactional View Theory (Watzlawick)
Word Count: 1039
This theory states that within family relationships there can often be misconceptions between each
family member and the problem can only be transformed when addressed by outside members of the
family (or situation), or simply stepping outside the situation yourselves and looking at all possible
aspects that way, or reframing. Watzlawick claims that through the repetitive actions of a family
system, a self

Anytime something does not go the way it should having to do with my body, energy, moods, etc. if I
go to my mom for advice the answer is always about diet, sleep patterns, or other healthy living styles.
Which is accurate and understandable to a certain extent but, in mine and my stepdad s minds, it does
not apply to every situation. I do eat very healthy compared to the average person and I try to not eat a
lot of meats, and especially not red meats, but on occassion I do enjoy treating myself to, what I call, a
cheat meal.
A few months back when visiting friends out of town, I decided to go all out and try this
world
famous burger at a local burger joint. Might I say, it was quite the burger, but the aftermath was
seven days of pure distaste, pain, and regret. Of course when coming to my mom for advice on the
situation she immediately put all blame on me for not choosing wisely on my food decisions. My
stepdad, on the other hand, eats a good amount of red meats and had actually been to this particular
restaurant many times before, having no issues. He said i probably just got a bug from touching the

Solar Power Appliances
Introduction
Founded in 1987 by a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Stanford, the SunPower
Company has lived to beat adversities and emerged as a formidable force to reckon with in the
provision of solar energy in the past few decades. Markedly, Dr. Richard Swanson acted on a market
gap and spearheaded the company s establishment from a research and development corporation to a
fully fledged production firm that produces and sells solar panels globally. Owing to worldwide
warming and climate change, there have been entrants in the same line of business that compete with
SunPower. As a result, a reduction in the company s market share occurred over the past decades.
In its initial life stages, SunPower signed two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, it registered a maximum of 600 MW solar cells in the year 2010 alone.
Despite its marked development, the SunPower Company still experiences aggressive competition
from larger solar cells producers in the world. Since solar energy is a permanent solution to concerns
on climate change, there have been scores of entrants into the same line of business. For instance, the
company faces stiff competition from the Asian and Middle East countries. Some of its main
competitors include Sharp Solar, who is the chief competitor, Q cells, REC Cells, First cells, and Sun
Tech among others.
All considered, this paper presents an analysis of the simulations done from 2007 to 2025 on a two
year interval. In other words, it presents the results obtained from 2007 and projected forth to 2023.
The study also indicates probable decisions to make on the pricing strategies and marketing
approaches among other financial recommendations to beat the rising competition.

  • 2. Hemodialysis Diet Analysis A personalized hemodialysis diet would be required when kidneys function fails due to kidney disease.1 With diseased kidneys it is difficult to get rid of wastes (e.g. protein) from the body.1 A wide range of lifestyle changes are needed in chronic kidney disease patients, especially diet.2 The diet plan for each individual is different, but for the most part CKD patients need to monitor their protein, sodium, potassium, phosphorus, and fluid intake on a continual basis.1 3 Buildup of waist products and fluid in particular make the dialysis process more difficult because you re needing to draw more fluid from the body. Therefore, it is very important for CKD patients to limit the amount of sodium and fluid intake in their diet.3 To much sodium ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The easy parts of following the diet for hemodialysis were creating my DaVita account and planning/choosing my meals for the day using the diet helper planner and tracker through myDaVita menu. There were a lot of challenges and barriers that I faced when doing this challenge. For instance, not having all of the ingredients to prepare the meals and deciding what foods my family would eat. For breakfast, I chose to go with the apple smoothie with raisin toast. The problem with this meal was that, I usually put bananas and milk in smoothies. This smoothie did not have bananas and milk because of the high amount of potassium and phosphorus which needs to be monitored in CKD patients. Some of the ingredients like the flaxseeds and the butter were omitted from this recipe because they were not available. For lunch, I chose the chicken broccoli pasta toss because we all like chicken. Here again some ingredients were omitted (raisin and cider vinegar) because family members had issues with them and other ingredients were substituted (e.g. regular mayonnaise instead of the low sodium, low calorie). For dinner, I chose the oven baked fish with rice because we usually have fish once a week. Unfortunately, I had to omit or substitute some of the ingredients for this meal as well. The vinegar, red wine, and corn flakes were omitted and the butter and Egg Beaters were replaced with oil and separated egg ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Biomedical Research Synthesis Essay The source Limits on Risks for Healthy Volunteers in Biomedical Research states that the Yellow Fever Tests were meant to find the cause of the spread of Yellow Fever. This is important to this argument because it shows that there are necessary risks in order to make good progress. Even though the some of the volunteers died from Yellow Fever, it allowed scientists to find the vector (mosquitos). This test is used by both sides to support their argument. One of the most versatile types of cell is a stem cell. Stem cells are cells that have not been specialized yet; in other words, they do not have a specific job. For example, nerve cells work to send signals throughout your body, while stem cells do not have any specific functions. But they do possess the ability to develop into all of the other different types of specialized cells in our body. With regenerative abilities, stem cells are capable of renewing themselves through cell division and when the stem cell divides to create another cell, the new cell has the potential to either stay a stem cell or differentiate into a ... HSCs have showed a widespread of potential clinical uses and today, researchers continue to advance their knowledge of stem cells and dig deeper with hopes of widening the clinical uses of HSCs. The first evidence of HSCs came from victims of the nuclear bombing in 1945. Research indicated that the victims, who died over a prolonged period, had compromised hematopoietic systems; in other words, their bodies were unable to regenerate either white blood cells to protect against infections or platelets to clot their blood. To further their understanding, an experiment was conducted on mice, in which they were exposed to radiation, identical to the citizens of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. The mice, which were given the minimal lethal dose, died of hematopoietic failure during the two weeks following after the radiation exposure, similar to the citizens. Scientists later discovered that they could rescue the mice from hematopoietic failure by injecting cells from blood forming organs of healthy mice. This discovery uncovered the importance of the hematopoietic system and its functions, such as the bone marrow s role in the regeneration of blood and immune cells. Early research of HSCs primarily focused on characterizing HSCs from other cells. Identifying and differentiating HSCs from other cells proved to be easier said than done, ... Engineering requires theory to develop and test constraints while also requiring practical application of theory in order to determine tolerance and practical results for industry purposes. II. Background In 1665 Robert Hooke used an early light microscope to look at a thin slice of cork. Under the microscope the cork looked to have thousands on empty chambers, which Hooke noted looked like cells , so he coined the term. Anton van Leeuwenhoek was a Dutch scientist who was named the father of microbiology. He was the first person to look at living cells and bacteria under a slightly more advanced single lens microscope in 1676 and 1683. Matthias Schleiden was a German scientist who observed different plants in the late 1830 s. His observations concluded that the plants were all composed of cells. Another German scientist, Theodor Schwann, observed that animals were also composed of cells. Later on, Rudolf Virchow concluded that the nucleus was the structures responsible for cell division, which created the third part of the cell theory, stating that all cells came from other pre existing cells. When telling a story, people often exaggerate details, characters and other events in the story in order to make it more interesting. Why do people do this? Do they do it because they feel that the story lacked something and needs to be expanded upon, or is it something else. This way of telling a story is especially prevalent in Tim O Brien s book The Things They Carried, which is a collection of stories about the Vietnam war. If you believe it, be skeptical. It s a question of credibility. Often the crazy stuff is true and the normal stuff isn t, because the normal stuff is necessary to make you believe the truly incredible craziness. (68). What he is essentially saying is, when creating a story, adding believable parts is neccessary for a story to make sense. The intention is to show schizophrenics that their hallucinations are not real. As yet, however, there is no evidence that this will provide a successful treatment. The research by Brown and Birley was a retrospective study where data is collected after events have occurred. In other words, once a person had developed schizophrenia they were asked about events leading up to the onset. It is quite likely that recall would be negatively affected by the events surrounding the onset of schizophrenia so such evidence may be unreliable. Prospective studies are preferable, where people are studied after the onset of the disorder. Hirsch et al followed 71 schizophrenic patients over a 48 week period. It was clear that life events made a significant cumulative (increasing) contribution in the 12 months preceding relapse rather than immediately prior to the schizophrenic episode. This does support the retrospective research. However, not all research supports the importance of life stressors. For example, Van Os et al reported no link between life events and the onset of schizophrenia. Howard finds him irrelevant, and his opinion of him doesn t matter at all because the only thing that matters is what Howard thinks of himeself. Over the years innumerable variations have been created. Used by many, the story of Little Red Riding Hood has debuted in print, games, tv, painting, and song. Some adaptations fit into the category of a fairy tale while others branch out into other genres. The song Lil Red Riding Hood by Sam the Sham the Pharaohs exemplifies the use of the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Although the song and story possess distinct differences, Lil Red Riding Hood is a fairy tale because it contains magic, uses key characters, and develops the plot. It is also a metaphor describing a timeless situation. Sam the Sham the Pharaohs sing a piece which uses the metaphor of Little Red Riding hood and the wolf to portray a couple s romantic situation. Some may state that a song cannot also be considered a fairy tale, but that is an incorrect assumption. A fairy tale is a fictional story which includes magical characters or situations. Fairy tales have some parts that have changed over the years and some that have stayed the same. The stories evolve over time to fit their audience. • 26. Ethical Issues In Erin Brockovich Erin Brockovich was a poor, jobless, single mother with three children. In the beginning of the movie, her car was hit by a surgeon. When she goes to court, the surgeon s lawyer accuses her lying and trying to steal money from the wealthy doctor. The lawyer uses Erin s status as a poor, single, twice divorced mother in order to make the jury believe that she is lying. Furthermore, the surgeon s lawyer talks down to her because she is a woman and dresses in tight, skimpy clothing. The overarching problem in the movie was the contamination of the water in Hinkley, California. The water was contaminated by a substance called chromium VI by the water company, PG E. Chromium VI is highly toxic to human beings and the company, knowing how toxic it is, dumps it into the water that the residents use. When Erin finds out about the chromium VI in the water, she begins by bringing it to the attention of the families who may have been affected by it. Regarding this, Erin takes an objectivist approach, knowing that the chromium levels are too high and could potentially (and already did) cause life threatening diseases for the people of Hinkley. The public s reaction was not exactly what she expected. Initially, some families seem skeptical and even uncaring about the situation, but Erin is able to connect with the residents and gain their trust and respect. This allows for them to truly begin questioning PG E s intentions. As for Erin gaining the Hinkley residents trust, this can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Cons Of De-Extinction Extinction is defined as: the state or situation that results when something, such as plant or animal species, have died out completely (Merriam Webster). The World Wildlife Foundation, otherwise known as the WWF, says that experts estimate that the loss of animals is estimated to be between 1,000 and 10,000 times higher than the natural extinction rate. Experts calculate that between 0.01 and 0.1% of all species become extinct each year. Although this may seem like quite low numbers it reality is it quite large. If the lower estimate is correct, then out of the estimated two million species on the planet, then an estimated two hundred and two thousand species will become extinct each year. If the larger estimate is correct and that there are an estimated 100 million different species on the planet, then that results in ten thousand and one hundred thousand species who become extinct each year (WWF). Experts say that of all the species that existed on this planet, 99.9% are now extinct (PBS). However, what if they could be brought back? Years ago, species such as the Pyrenean ... These obstacles have shaped everyone and helped them become the person they are today. Challenges are a part of life and everyone will face them at some point in their life, but it is how people handle it that determines their future. This idea can be seen in many pieces of text including the following poems. Invictus by William Ernest Henley and The Rose That Grew From Concrete by Tupac both convey the idea that obstacles are important in everyone s life and help shape everyone as a person on the way to their dream. Through Invictus William Ernest Henley shows that if people did not run into obstacles in their life, no one would know who they truly are. The use of imagery shows this theme in that it allows the readers to feel and see the pain that the writer is going through. For example, William Henley says, I have not winced nor cried aloud./ my head is bloody, but unbowed (6 8). This device is being used to demonstrate the difficult journey that the author was given to go on, in order reach his dream and be in control of their life. It shows the theme of this poem because it speaks about the low points in a person s life and about how by not giving in they become stronger. This device also shows that though they have been beaten down multiple times they refuse to be broken. Another device that Henley uses is diction. • 29. Theme Of Psychoanism In Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights, published by Emily Brontë in 1847, tells a story of the history of Wuthering Heights and the tragic love story that precedes it. The two central settings of the work, Thrushcross Grange, and Wuthering Heights represent Freud s structural model of the human psyche: the id and the superego. Because Freud s structural model presents the notion that internal conflict is inevitable, the two settings illustrate the complexities of the human subconscious and the characters difficulty in navigating them. In Brontë s Wuthering Heights, the namesake setting of the book represents the Freudian id, by reason of its primitive aspect in the work. In psychoanalytic theory, the id is responsible for the primal instincts in humans, and almost always seeks immediate fulfillment. Early on in the novel, the primal nature of Wuthering Heights exposes itself: the Gothic architecture of the house gives off a sense of foreboding, the inside of the home lacks conventional furnishings, meat hangs from the kitchen ceiling, and Lockwood, the narrator, notices a pile of dead rabbits in the living room. Lockwood calls the atmosphere surrounding the house a tumult to which its station is exposed in stormy weather (5). The description of the home reveals an underlying barbarity to it, similar to the id. The darkness in the Heights mirrors location of the id in the human subconscious; the id is located deep in the recesses of the human mind, so many humans who engage the id have no way to resist it. The tone of the work shrouds the Heights in an antagonistic darkness, and the lack of conventionality coupled with the turbulent weather serves as a physical manifestation of the id. In contrast, Thrushcross Grange represents the superego due to the air of controlled refinement surrounding the home. Freud s model defines the superego as the part of the mind that acts as a critical self conscious, reflecting social standards learned through parents and teachers. The refined nature of the house and its adherence to societal standards shows in its physical appearance. As he described the appearance of Thrushcross Grange in the novel Heathcliff should have thought [himself] in heaven , (48). Unlike the Heights, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many theories and hypothesis have been produced to account for why humans have no fur; some are supported whilst others have been heavily criticised, none have been generally accepted. Questions surrounding the subject include why have humans retained head and pubic hair? and why do females have less hair in comparison to males? Three leading theories include the body cooling hypothesis, the aquatic ape hypothesis and the parasitic hypothesis. In this essay, I will present and evaluate some of these theories and attempt a conclusion as to why humans shed their fur. Introduction Humans possess a unique and unusual trait found ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parasites not only cause irritation and discomfort, but also carry viruses and diseases which could prove to be fatal. Hairlessness would reduce parasitic load therefore reducing the likelihood of diseases, viruses, infections and discomfort brought on by the parasites. This theory was first put forth by Belt. However Charles Darwin (1888) rejected this hypothesis because it doesn t explain why only humans lost their hair as ectoparasites are a problem to all primates. Human intelligence grew as humans evolved, enabling humans to build fires, make shelters and produce clothes, which could be washed or changed if infested with parasites. This meant that humans were able to shed their hair, reducing ectoparasites while avoiding exposure to the sun, cold and other weather conditions. The only other example of this theory is the naked mole rat, which is the only other mammal that has no fur and that doesn t live in an aquatic environment. The naked mole rat lives underground so has no threat from exposure to sun and UV radiation. There is expected to be a high number of parasites living in these colonies of naked mole rats however, their climate tends to regulate the negative effect this would have on them; making hairlessness feasible for this ... Plath s poem is written in stanzaic form of two stanzas each consisting of nine lines. The double stanza of the poem can be interpreted as catoptric, since the poem is describing the reflections, while also describing its own image. Likewise, both stanzas are equal in length to reflect each other, in that they both have little to no sign of rhyme or rhythm, otherwise known as a free verse poem. The structure of Plath s poem perhaps can serve to reflect the extended figure, for like the woman in this poem we too are entranced by the product of its general simplicity. As Plath s poem shows no evidence of stressed and unstressed syllable patterns or even complicated diction, the poem is written in such a way that, when spoken, it naturally and exquisitely roles of the tongue. As a rhythm booster Plath takes advantage of adding in phrases such as over and over and comes and goes, and in doing this attracts attention to the sound of the word which in turn adds rhythm and flavor.
