Jean Valjean Throughou Quotes
Despite knowing what his fate might look like, Jean Valjean announces himself as an escaped
prisoner. This occurs when another man, Champmathieu, who is believed to be Jean Valjean, is about
to be sentenced to life imprisonment. Valjean, instead of choosing a life of comfort and luxury, decides
to rescue an innocent man and suffer in his stead.
Valjean suffers and chooses the path of virtue because it is imbibed in his principles and reflects the
beliefs he lives by. Valjean also upholds his pledge to fetch Cosette which was given to Fantine on her
deathbed. Valjean is seen venerating motherhood when he hands Cosette her mother s necklace. It is
one of the most heartrending of literary deathbeds when Valjean offers his summation on the
misfortunes of a single mother: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He makes right decisions disregarding the troubles he invites upon himself. He is truly a romantic hero
in Hugo s novel for the same reason. Trapped in the shackles of time and circumstances, Valjean
struggles to find a way to balance virtue without harming his loved ones. Valjean s isolation and then
radical uprising is not just admirable but also inspiring. Valjean incorporates the bishop Monseigneur
Myriel as the voice of conscience, then follows Fantine s maternal example by adopting and raising

Essay On Dynamic Range
Dynamic range defined as the range of the lightest and darkest areas of an image which camera can
successfully capture without losing detail. Our real world environment dynamic range is high that
exceeds the capabilities of modern display devices with limited dynamic range. A problem appears
when displaying high dynamic range image in low dynamic range display devices, so the tone
mapping technique has been used to solve this problem. In this paper, new adjustment tone mapping
technique is presented for displaying high dynamic range image on a low dynamic range device
without any lose in image details and maintains contrast of the image. Instead of linearly scaling the
luminance of all pixels or introduce local gamma correction with ... Show more content on

Tone mapping technique used to map high dynamic range images to low dynamic range image that
will be displayed on recent devices, thus keeping the image looking realistic. The tone mapping
operators can be classified into two categories: global operators and local operators. Global operator
task depends on the same mapping function is used for all the pixels of the input HDR image so,
global operators can be described as spatially uniform methods. Global tone mapping operators are
computationally very simple and maintain the intensity orders of the original scenes thus avoiding
halo artifacts, but cause loss of details in the mapped images. Local operators which reproduce the
tonal values in a spatially variant manner because mapping function processes for each individual
pixel. Local operators characterized that more satisfying than global operators in terms of the detail
preservation and compression ratio of the dynamic range. Also, there are two tone mapping model
linear tone mapping model and nonlinear tone mapping model. Linear model does not need multiscale
decomposition or segmentation of the images into binary or fractional maps, where the problems
associated with layer decomposition are not found. Linear model not only interested in making the
output images looks natural by enhancing the pixel intensity more significantly in highlights, but also

The Transforming Vision By Brian Walsh And Richard Middleton
The Transforming Vision, written by Brian Walsh and Richard Middleton, yearn for a change in the
way Christianity is viewed. According to the authors, science, technology and economic growth is
what shapes our society, while Christianity stands in the sidelines. The authors aspire to see a change
in Christianity where it may receive social and cultural embodiment. In the first chapters, Walsh and
Middleton explore the reason behind why Christianity of North Americans is so disembodied
compared to others. In addition, Transforming Vision explores the different types of worldviews
compared to a Christian worldview, or biblical view. Furthermore, it discusses how the different type
of world views affects us and if there is any worldview better than another. Chapter 1, World View and
Culture, begins with Anthony s story and how his decision had different responses. After Anthony
became a Christian and grew as a person, he made the decision of leaving his girlfriend when he
realized he did not love her. According to his family, loyalty is one of the greatest of moral duties,
therefore, viewed Anthony s decision as an unpardonable sin. However, in a Christian s perspective
his actions were honest and caring. Each side had a different point of view. World views are described
in the book as perceptual frameworks and not systems of thought like theologies or philosophies. Two
examples are then given to understand how certain cultures view situations, like child rearing

Importance Of Hatshepsut Building Programs
How important was Hatshepsut s building program? (5 Marks)
Hatshepsut s building programs played a major role in her reign as is shown through the praise they
still receive from the future generations. Hatshepsut main focus seemed to be her building programs as
she constantly refers to them. Once she acquired the role of pharaoh she started repairing buildings
that were neglected during the Hyksos occupation such as the temple of Hathor at Cusae, a temple for
Min and the temple of Thoth at Hermopolis. Her building programs consisted of completing Thutmose
II due to his short reign and constructing new buildings. Her new building programs consisted of her
mortuary temple at Deir el Bahri; the Red Chapel, obelisks and pylon at Karnak; the barque sanctuary
at Luxor and the cliff temple dedicated to the lion goddess, Pakhet at Beni Hassan. Her building
programs were important to further enhance her relationship with the Amun Re cult. Through her
buildings she reinforced her relationship with Amun, using it as propaganda to prove that she has the
right to claim the throne.
What importance did Amun have in Hatshepsut s reign? (Use evidence) (5 Marks)
Amun and religion played a large role in Hatshepsut s reign due to the use of a higher being to

Forshadowing In Joan Aiken s The Third Wishes
In the short story, The Third Wish, by Joan Aiken, a lonely man named Mr.Peters comes across a
struggling swan. After freeing him, he turned into a little green man who granted him 3 wishes.
Mr.Peters used one of his wishes to get a wife, and saved the others in case something went wrong. By
using mood and foreshadowing to create a theme that Making wise and smart decisions can save you,
he also used another two, round and indirect characterisation, to show a second theme that being a
rude and selfish rude person never goes well in the end. Aiken uses foreshadowing and indirect
characterization to portray a theme that being a selfish and rude person never goes well in the end.
Aiken used foreshadowing in The Third Wish to convey a theme that being a selfish and rude person
never goes well in the end. In the beginning of the short story, Mr.Peters was granted three wishes
after freeing a swan from a thorn bush. The swan then turned into a little man. This was who granted
Mr.Peters the wishes and he warned him that people always use the wishes for selfish endeavors, it
always ended in catastrophe. Mr. Peters, already knowing he was going to be smart with his wishes
claimed that, He knew very well that the gift of three magical wishes was one which brought trouble
more often than not.(...) He decided to use his first wish and keep the other two in case of emergency.
(Mr.Peters pg 56) These few sentences tell the reader that he is going to use his wishes wisley instead
of using it for something impractical. He knows that wishing for something that is life change never
really ended up good in the end. It s always worse than when it started. This is why Mr.Peters was
smart with his wishes. This little example of foreshadowing is not the only one the author used. In the
middle of the passage his wife that he wished for, was longing for her old life back. Mr.Peters knew
she was not happy. The passage claims that one night he heard her cry, Rhea! Rhea! I can t understand
what you say! Oh wait for me, take me with you! (Leita pg 57) She cries to her missed sister who she
can t communicate with because she is a swan. Mr.Peters was the only one that could make her happy
again. This shows foreshadowing because, the

The Tranformation of the Smartphone
1. INTRODUCTION
In the history of smartphones, the revolutionary technologies have made a agreat transformation from
the giant brick structure smartphones in 1995 to slim and stylish form factor nowadays. Over the past
few decades ago, smartphones become more abundant, for instance, 300 million units were sold world
wide in 2010 [] while one out of two Americans started using smartphones mobile phones in the year
2011 []. This has caused Smart mobile operating system (OS) to become a blazing hot issue, after
Apple reintroduced the term Smart in a phone in the year 2007. An Android phone manufacturer,
Samsung, sold 319.8 million units 32.2 percent, a 15% increase from 2012 whereas Apple sold 153.5
million iPhones worldwide with a 15.5 % market share. In the year 2013 alone, global smart phones
shipments boost up 41 percent to reach a record high 990 million units according to the Thomson
Reuters, the world s largest international multimedia news.
However, under the hood of market statistics, an enormous technical progress has been made since the
inception of mobile devices. As the performance of the mobile device becomes significantly increased,
the potential use of such devices is also tremendous. As a result, the developers are now facing the
challenge of designing not only hardware architectures but also complex software. One of the most
challenging problems is to design a well usable smartphone. For instance, the process of designing the
graphical user interface of a

Defense Of Mary Warren In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
Emma Harrison 10/24/17 Ms. Ruiz Period 6 Defense of Mary Warren When it comes to Arthur Miller
s allegorical work, The Crucible, very few characters can be deemed completely innocent. While just
about every person in this story has a flaw of envy, pride, or selfishness, characters can often be sorted
into the accuser or accused categories. One exception to this is Mary Warren. Throughout the story,
her loyalties switch back and forth between these two sides. Due to this, she may seem like a selfish
and unsympathetic character; that is not the case, however. Mary Warren is an abused and manipulated
child, whose decisions in the story are certainly justified, given her situation. The first we see of Mary
is when Betty falls ill after the the girls are caught congregating in the woods. Immediately, we see she
is terrified, fully aware that them being accused of witchcraft would be a hangin error (1268). Abigail
responds to her fear with an order to lie; she threatens them with violence should they not obey her.
Abigail is one of Mary Warren s main abusers in the story. John Proctor, Mary s employer, enters the
scene next. When he sees her away from his house, he scolds her in a humiliating fashion, even
threatening to whip her. From the stage directions, we see she tries to retain a shred of dignity (1269),
when this happens, leading to the belief that this reproach from Proctor is common in her life. We don
t hear from Mary again until the beginning of Act II. She

The Issue Of Sanders Rhetoric
As the election creeps increasingly closer nervous liberal onlookers had all their attention on the
Democratic National Convention. On Monday, the 25th of July, Bernie Sanders approached the
podium in the Philadelphia Convention Center to deliver his much anticipated speech. Although a
formal announcement had not been made on the nominee, most individuals knew that the race was all
but over for Mr. Sanders. With that being said, the audience which was overflowing with liberals,
could not have been more upset with the imminent nomination outcome. The audience s age gap
varied but many of the crowd were in the 20 40 year old bracket. Given these points, my decision on
the success of Sanders rhetoric will be given at the end of this paper. One of the first details that can
be noticed about Sanders is his attire. His suite looks routine and non expensive. The nature of the suit
portrays an everyday man or man of the people. In other words a practical and lovable man who
despite having the financial capacity does not indulge himself in redundant purchases. Over the years
Bernie has stuck with this appearance and seen his followers grown tremendously. Evidently, many
individuals respect and are more inclined to listen to Sanders because of his frugal attire. In terms of
credentials and experience, he has a long list of jobs and positions held throughout his lifetime. In no
particular order he has received a B.A. from the University Of Chicago, lectured at Harvard, served as

Plain View Doctrine
The plain view doctrine permits an officer to seize evidence without a warrant, if the officer is in a
legal position to see the evidence (Hall, 2015). In my police academy law classes our instructors
would state right to be, right seize. The plain view doctrine relies on the following elements for a
warrantless seizure to be lawful, which includes the officer must lawfully be in an area from which the
object to be seized is in plain view, and the officer does in fact, identify the item (Hall, 2015, p. 424).
Additionally, the officer possesses probable cause to believe the object is connected to a crime, and the
officer has a right to access object itself. The officer may not manipulate something with the intent of

Goldfish Metabolic Rate Lab Report
The null hypothesis for this experiment is that there is no statistically significant relationship between
the metabolic rate of goldfish and their exposure to light. The alternative hypothesis is that goldfish
exposed to ambient light will exhibit a higher metabolic rate compared to goldfish that are exposed to
dark light.
Results
Overall 86 goldfish (N=43) were used in the experiment. Altogether, 43 trails (2 fish per trial) were
conducted in order to track the metabolic rates of the fishes. Differences in metabolic rates (with
respect to light exposure) were calculated by measuring the changes of oxygen concentration in the
water chambers where the fishes were placed. The change in oxygen consumption averaged
445(mgO_2)/(hr∙Kg) when the fishes were exposed to ambient light and 377(mgO_2)/(hr∙Kg) when
the fish were exposed to dark light. Across the trails, the average oxygen consumption as oxygen lost

For the most part, goldfish exposed to ambient light experienced a higher change in oxygen
consumption than fishes that were exposed to dark light. However, because the p value for our
experiment, 0.211, fell below the recommended 0.05 threshold, we were unable to report a statistically
significant difference in the metabolic rates of goldfish exposed to different lighting conditions
(ambient vs. dark). Because it is likely that the differences in average oxygen consumption between
the two conditions (exposure to ambient light vs dark light) were a result of chance, we were unable to
reject the null hypothesis stating that there is no statistically significant relationship between the
metabolic rate of goldfish, and its exposure to light. With this being said, previous studies have
reported exposure to light to be an important factor governing the biological cycle of fish (Choi et al.

Fast Food Public Relation Blunders
Introduction
Fast Food can be defined as quickly made food that is sold in restaurants as a quick meal or to be
taken out. The first fast food restaurants came around the 1920 s and have since then, blown up to be
its own part of American Culture. Chances are, if you live in the United States there is a fast food
restaurant within a mile of your house. As the century progressed these fast food restaurants expanded
to countless countries across the world becoming a big part of peoples everyday lives. Since there are
countless fast food franchises selling generally the same products, the market is extremely
competitive. Fast Food franchises participate in aggressive marketing and are always trying to stay in
the good graces of the public eye. One slip up and chances are they are going to lose a vast amount of
business. As much as they try though there is no possible way they would be able to anticipate some
of the public relations blunders that occur especially in an age where there are eyes everywhere in the
form of cameras and social media. One of the biggest public relations disasters in recent memory
involved the fast food pizza delivery franchise Domino s and another more recently involving
Starbucks.

The Theme Of Death In Hamlet
10 Bucks Everyone Dies, Bet
(The Theme of Death in Hamlet Acts 4 and 5) There a significance, some deep and abiding meaning
to death one that transcends our puny ability to understand? this quote is from chabad.org, by Maurice
Lamm. Death is very hard to understand, is it a void which we never return? Death may be just the
disintegration of our bodies that we all know as being kind of gross. The play Hamlet has several
deaths in it, the play is known as the play of death. Hamlet being the little baby he is just goes around
trying to figure out how to get the balls to kill the old man. In the play Hamlet throughout acts 4 and 5
the theme of death is very present, and one of the more major themes. The play Hamlet in act 4 shows
the theme of death very well. The theme of death is a biggy in the world of themes throughout the play
Hamlet. The play basically has everyone die in the end. Shakespeare shows his genius very well by
slipping little clues about the death theme throughout the play. He sprinkles the death ingredients like
he is a chef making a masterful entree. Hamlet infers on page 210 line 5, Compounded it with dust,
whereto tis the dead. Here Hamlet is responding to Rosencrantz where Rosencrantz is asking Hamlet
where he put the dead body of Polonius. The way that the two characters just throw death around like
it is some kind of play toy is astonishing. Both Rosencrantz and Hamlet have lost their sensitivity to
the subject of death. Lawrence R Samuel Ph.D. states from Psychology today, The end of life is now
frequently a prolonged period carrying a heavy emotional, ethical, physical, and financial price,
something that has helped make death this country s greatest taboo . This quote shows that death is
now a huge taboo to talk about, but back then it really wasn t after Hamlet has killed polonius. Clearly,
The theme of death is present during this time in the play Hamlet. The theme of death in Hamlet acts 4
and 5 are really shown by dulling the mind more sensitive subjects. Hamlet the play was the ultimate

Obesity Is A Serious Problem
The number of obese children now exceeds 25 percent in nearly two thirds of states. The rates of
obesity in America have risen in the last thirty years, costing Americans, health, happiness, money,
and productivity ( Obesity Is A Serious Problem 12). This research paper will be telling you about
arguments and opposing viewpoints about a growing epidemic in teens and adults, obesity. Currently
this topic is very controversial about who is to blame the kids, the parents, or the advertising
companies because the cost of food is so low and the advertisers are getting a lot of views due to the
kids being less active. The biggest issue in my opinion is that the parents and children are not aware of
all of the consequences and health risks they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children are hit with advertisements for food, candy, and sugary drinks on the television, the Internet,
in magazines, and at school every day (Nestle 28). The fast food industries realize that gaining
children as customers at a young age most likely makes them a life long customer (Nestle 28). Sadly
soft drink companies unapologetically name 8 to 12 year olds as marketing targets (Nestle 31). Clearly
these companies are targeting younger kids so they buy their products in the future so their businesses
strive in the future years. The amount of money spent on marketing directed to children and their
parents rose from $6.9 billion in 1992 to $12.7 billion in 1997 which is pretty crazy (Nestle 31). As
the media gets more and more popular every year the more money companies spend on advertising.
Then, coincidentally, the obesity rates keep getting worse and worse not in just America but across the
world. Market researchers break down the elements of advertising down to package design, typefaces,
pictures and most of this content is likely to get boy and girls of varying age to want to purchase
products (Nestle 31). Simple marketing tricks like those can catch a child s attention and get them
wanting those meal toys or other things that catch their attention. Another reason why advertisements
lead to obesity is that nowadays kids and adults are sitting in front of a television or computer for

Designing a film is something not everyone can do. It takes a lot of patience and attention to detail to
ensure the creators of films make the best possible scenes with zero to minimal mistakes. Every scene
needs to be spot on with elements such as setting, lighting, costuming, and temporal elements. When
watching a movie for the first time, people don t normally pay much attention to the small details but
when a film is a considered a favorite, people tend to spot small mistakes within films. Let s take a

Elf (2003) is a Christmas movie and with saying that, people expect to see Christmas decorations,
lights, music, and costumes to make the audience feel like it really is Christmas. In this scene of the
film, you notice that it takes place in the mall and is completely decorated with Christmas decorations
everywhere. Buddy has on his signature elf costume and the fake Santa has on a traditional Santa
outfit. The scene itself screams Christmas and no one can argue that. Film scenes don t make itself
come to life; this specific job is designated to the art director. The art director is Kelvin Humenny and
this man help collaborate with the director and production designer to produce the overall look and
feel of Elf (2003). Humenny delegated tasks to production, set, electrical and lighting designers,
unifying those roles in the effort to bring directors aesthetic vision to life. Again, this is a Christmas
movie and the set up is suppose to make the audience feel the Christmas spirit. This scene was a
success in my eyes. The set and lighting was spot on as you look at the details of the scene, all you can
notice is Christmas decorations and lights. The lighting itself wasn t overwhelming but just right and
what people expect for Christmas decorations. Costumes and the set up a scene stand out most to
people but makeup and hair styling are some details that help make scenes become complete as well.

industry. The genres: Fiction, poetry, and drama came with manifold talented young and old artists,
poets, and writers. It was believed by multiple people that these genres would inevitably lead to
civilization restoration. (Currell 44). Music and performances also contributed to the thriving of the
entertainment industry. This genre gradually started to become more prevalent than the other genres.
Many forms of music, such as Jazz and Blues, brought about many great artists, during this era. Perry
Bradford, a famous Blues singer, sold over 10,000 copies of his album, Crazy Blues , in his first week
of its release date. In just over 7 months, he was able to promote and sell over 1 million copies of his
album. (Currell 75). Within an instance, these new, talented musicians began to form a network of
influence for new musical expressions (Currell 76). Likewise, film and radio began to take its toll on
the entertainment business, as well. The Roaring Twenties became the decade

Statistical Test For Your Data Analysis
Data Analysis and Interpretation In selecting the appropriate statistical test for your data analysis, you
need to identify the question or hypothesis for the study. Are you trying to compare groups, interested
in finding out if there is a relationship between two or more variables, or are you trying to predict.
Some factors to consider as well are the following: (1) Research design, (2) Level of measurement:
nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio, (3) Number of groups, and if they are correlated (dependent) or
independent, (4) Number of variables, and know which is the dependent and independent variable, and
(5) Know when to choose a parametric versus a non parametric test. The flowchart and the Appendix
E section of the book on How to Use SPSS eighth edition of Brian Cronk (2014), was used as a guide
to answer the questions below. Answer this question for the four studies below: Which statistical test
you would use to analyze the data collected for these variables? Study A* Variable 1 is psychiatric
patients gender; and Variable 2 is whether or not the patient has attempted suicide in the past 12
months. Answer Chi square test of independence tests whether or not two variables are independent of
each other (Cronk, 2014). The question here is, is there a relationship between gender and whether or
not the patient has attempted suicide in the past 12 months? Does the relationship differ for males and
females? The independent variable is gender and the dependent variable

Vendor Managed Inventory System
In order to fully and efficiently utilize our proposed vendor managed inventory system, we have
performed extensive research of numerous hardware and software configurations. Among the many
obvious requirements of the system are cost, scalability, compatibility, and ease of use. Some methods
for consideration are outlined below.
• Cost In order to keep costs down, we have decided to utilize the Internet. Vendors would be
responsible for providing their own computer system in order to access the VMI. Our role would
include maintaining a dedicated server, supplying software, and providing access.
• Scalability In an effort to apply forward thinking, we are recommending a system that will provide

The Impact Of The Roaring 20 s
During the era of the Great Depression, economic downfall committed an end to the great prosperity
of the Roaring 20 s , and farmers continued to spiral deeper into an already formed economic pit. As
prices of crops plummeted during the Roaring 20 s , the era of the depression continued to strain any
hope of economic prosperity for farmers as prices of crops depleted over five times the original value;
farmers continued to lose faith in the already depleted market of agriculture. Though, in order to fully

Analysis Of The Central Subject Of Wuthering Heights By...
Midterm Paper
The central subject of Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is the love between Heathcliff and
Catherine. The novel sets the narrative up for Edgar Linton s proposal to Catherine by having
Catharine get bit by the Linton s dog and then having her stay at Thrushcross Grange. During this
time, she is learning how to be a proper lady all while becoming closer with the Linton s. The novel
sets the narrative up for Catherine s death by showing Catherine s relationship between Edgar and
Heathcliff. Although, Catherine is married to Edgar she still has Heathcliff come around because she
can t be apart from him. This exceptionally shows during Catherine s death when Heathcliff decides to
stay with her, even though he knows Edgar is coming. The1998 film adaptation reveals the same
central subject, however, it includes slightly different information and tools to portray the subject.
In the novel WH, Catherine enters the room and appears to be disturbed and anxious. Catherine tells
Nelly how Edgar Linton asked her to marry him, but she is looking to Nelly for what the right answer
may be. She finally comes out and tells Nelly that she has accepted him. Nelly proceeds to ask
Catherine why she loves Edgar, Catherine s response is because he is handsome, pleasant to be with,
young and cheerful, and because he loves me. Catherine finally gets to the point that Edgar is rich. In
her soul and heart, she is convinced she made the wrong decision. Catherine explains how she

With the political strife increasing in the nation the Shah was forced into exile with his family. This all
happened on January 16,1979 two weeks after this event Khomeini returned to Iran after fourteen

its first political and religious leader. Khomeini determined to transform Iran into an Islamic state.
Khomeini reinstated and imposed Islamic law anything that was western and established punishments

Therefore Khomeini s foreign policy was abandonment of the Shah western direction. This led him to
have hostility both superpowers at the time. During this time of restructuring Iran tried to export its

Essay on Michele Foucault Biopower
Michel Foucault wrote a book called History of Sexuality. In Part five of the book Right of Death and
Power over Life, he discusses about the historical Sovereign Power where one is allowed to decide
who has the right to live and who has the right to die. The sovereign uses his power over life through
the deaths that he can command and uses his authority to announce death by the lives he can spare.
Foucault then moves on to Disciplinary Power where he came up with the Panopticon where one is to
believe they were under surveillance at all times. Such surveillance is still used in our everyday life
such as schools, prisons, offices, hospitals, and mental institutes. Later in his life, Foucault discovered

This is where the regulatory controls such as bio politics of the population take place. Foucault
describes how this bio power has been influential to the rise and growth of capitalism. He was
adamant that the triumph of this economic structure would not have been possible without the
controlled insertion of bodies into the machinery of production and the adjustment of the phenomena
of population to economic processes . (Foucault, p. 141) Since capitalism demands growth, such as
establishment of new companies and the production of merchandises, it had to have methods of power
capable of optimizing forces, aptitudes, and life in general without at the same time making them
more difficult to govern. The life of humans was seen to be a significant element to politics and
history. How a person lived developed into an item of authority and knowledge and needed to be
synchronized, understood, and managed. The rules and regulations turned out to be less concerned
towards threatening and making judgment, but became more concerned in stabilizing and making the
conditions of life more effective. The new power that took control over their lives means that they
were over controlled by the politics.

Recombinant Dna Techniques Essay
In this experiment, individuals were able to use recombinant DNA techniques such as cloning to alter
the DNA of a certain strain of yeast called Saccharomyces Cerevisiae. By the use of cloning, scientists
are able to analyze and compare the genetic material of a specific organism to another. In this lab, the
recombinant DNA techniques are used to transform AmpS E. Coli to AmpR E. Coli. This was done by
using an insert, a vector, and a host. The insert was S. Cerevisiae genomic DNA, E. Coli plasmid was
the vector, and E. Coli was the host. The technique of gel electrophoresis was also used to determine
whether the DNA was cut or not with restriction enzymes. Uncut sequences of the DNA were sent to
an outside laboratory for sequencing. Then when the sequencing was complete, computer programs,
such as BLAST, were used to determine whether or not the genomic insert originates from a gene and
if the yeast codes for a protein that could be found within the human genome. Introduction
Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, more commonly known as baker s yeast or brewer s yeast, is very
favorable to use in biotechnology because of the wide range of environmental conditions it could live
in. S. Cerevisiae is capable to live from freezing temperatures to about 55◦C, proliferate from 12◦C to
40◦C, grow within the pH range of 2.8 8.0, could be dried almost completely and still come back alive
with the addition of water, grow and ferment at sugar concentrations of 3M, and can tolerate up to a

The Tyger And The Lamb By William Blake
Everything in the universe has an opposite. This provides a balance, a push and pull, to the world.
Because of this truth, no thing that exists is entirely one thing or the other. Every animal, object, and
event that has ever existed may have had bad effects in one situation, but good effects for another
situation. And every human, by extension, has aspects about them that can be viewed as both good and
evil. In his poems, The Tyger and, The Lamb , author William Blake explores the ideas of duality, and
how each thing must have an equal opposite. He uses both these poems to further ruminate on this
dichotomy and brings up many questions in the context of religion. He seeks to point out that in the
Christian belief system, all things viewed as good and bad in the world have apparently come from the
same thing: God, and yet God is seen as being entirely good. But if that is the case, then how can God
be all good if all the evil things come from him as well? Is anything then truly evil? Or does it just
seem that way from one perspective? Blake uses these two poems in conjunction with one another to
make the reader question these things and think about what good and evil actually mean. Blake first
published, The Lamb in his poetry collection The Songs of Innocence, and in this poem he presents a
lamb as a metaphor for innocence and goodness. In the first stanza, the poem repeatedly asks, Little
lamb, who made thee? / Dost thou know who made thee? (LI. 1 2). This question

Reflection Paper On Fieldwork Experience
During:
During my fieldwork experience, I observed a particular grower that was in my group on my last day
of fieldwork. This was my first time meeting this grower so generally, I was unsure as to how things
would pan out between us. Prior to meeting this client, I was assuming that the client would generally
keep to himself and not interact with his peers or new people such as myself. However, to my surprise,
the client that I observed did in fact interact with his his peers and even interacted with myself.
Despite just meeting on my last day of fieldwork, I felt as though I knew this grower for a very long
time. The grower would interact with others by giving them a high fives, engaging in the variety of
tasks that we had throughout the day, and laughing when it was appropriate. The way that this
particular grower interacted with is peers definitely surprised me and was a different then what I had
expected.
The grower that I had the opportunity to interact with seemed to be diagnosed with severe autism. The
was demonstrated in many ways. The client rarely made eye contact with his peers and other
supervisors. In addition, the client lacked communication with his peers and his supervisors as well.
When he tried to communicate, he would in a way grunt towards you or he may have laughed if he
was enjoying himself. At times, the client would have an outburst of arm flapping that would last
about three to five seconds each. This only occurred about four times throughout the

Administration Is Poorly Or Carelessly Done
administration is poorly or carelessly done (e. g., starting meetings late can discourage some of the
most effective people from coming another time, vagueness about the agenda creates disorder in the
people s minds and often in the progress of the meetings, and failure to plan results in drifting).
Therefore, it benefits the preacher in charge and all of those associated with him/her, to plan and
execute the plan wisely. The end results of the planning may strengthen persons and groups in their
abilities, attitudes, habits, fellowship, and spiritual understanding and dedication. The record of the
past, recent, or distant holds no special comfort for this moment, except that the record suggests that
there is in our midst a viable, stable vehicle that can be successfully utilized. It will not come by
praying, and preaching, and singing alone. It must come by employing the instruments, skills, and
expertise of the administrative body under the direction of its black preacher to make his witness that
we are, indeed, sons and daughters of the Father. Taking into account the fact that many pastors are
not trained administrators, Howell continues to advocate that the Black Preacher s administrative roles
and expectations are plural in numbers. When the pastor s various administrative duties are listed and
grouped into meaningful classifications, the many roles begin to become clear. The following is a list
of these administrative roles using the acronym D.O.C.T.O.R., with a

Two people can be similar in many ways, but they may not know this. Sometimes the two people don t

through different things but were a lot alike. In Richard Connell s short story The Most Dangerous
Game and Saki s short story The Interlopers, the main characters General Zaroff and Ulrich von
Gradwitz are alike in the following ways: both men hunted on their own land, both men hunted
humans, and both men died. Out of all the places in the world both men choose to hunt on their own
land. Their own backyards, this was the best place for both of these men to hunt. It was secluded and

Zaroff did this for the thrill and challenge of it, because animals were not enough of a challenge for
him. Ulrich did this because he was hunting a lifelong enemy, whose family has been an enemy of
Ulrich s family for many generations. Both men aimed to kill the humans on their land, whether for
fun or for a lifelong feud. Ulrich and Zaroff were hunters and the other humans were prey. Neither
man feared the consequences, for they both thought they would never be caught. In a way they were
right, they were never caught by the police or others. But this was because both were killed. Zaroff
was killed by one of the humans he hunted, but failed to kill. Ulrich was killed by wolves along with
his enemy Georg, this was right after they had decided to end the fued and become friends. Neither
man was caught but both men suffered in death. In conclusion, two people can be a lot alike, even if
they don t know each other. Both men had many things in common even though they went through
different situations. If Ulrich and Zaroff had known each other they may have worked together and
been unstoppable. Both men suffered in the end and no one knew what they had been doing, and the
few that did know were dead. This shows that what goes around comes around and that bad people get
punished for what they do even if no one knows

Our primary focus here lies in determining the effectiveness and awareness of the currently existing
communications network at Middlesex University and to also gain an insight on the preferences and
attitudes of the students regarding the same.
Research designs can be broadly labeled as exploratory, descriptive or causal. For achieving the
desired answers to our current problem, exploratory research was chosen. Exploratory research
designs are ones characterized by a flexible and evolving approach to understand marketing
phenomena that are inherently difficult to measure. (Malhotra 2007)
Some of the reasons for choosing this mode of research are; * Exploratory research is optimum for
indentifying and exploring concepts in development of products or in forms of marketing
communications; a primary objective for Middlesex University. * As stated by Malhotra(2007), its
vital to develop an understanding of the structure of beliefs and attitudes in order to aid the
interpretation of data structures which goes to invest in another primary objective; that of
understanding the student s attitudes and preferences to Middlesex University s communications

The Bourgeoisie In The 17th Century
Did the Bourgeoisie bring substantial changes to 17th century Europe?
As the world has become increasingly competitive especially with globalization and economic
expansion the economic group that is behind this expansion were the bourgeoisie. During the 17th
century the bourgeoisie were known to be the upper rich class through the control of manufacturing
product or finance. The Bourgeoisie were the smaller population that held more wealth and although
they lacked in finding solutions to have a balanced society, they were able bring substantial changes

Since they were the in charge of manufacturing products and finance, they were able to increase to

which helped produce variety of goods in factories and workshops of varies towns and cities. The
bourgeoisie were devoted and spent long hours to their businesses and poured much of their profit

to make was cultural diffusion through trade. As goods such as Caribbean and Brazil sugar and rum,
Mexican chocolate, Virginia tobacco, North American furs, East India cotton textiles and spices and
Chinese tea (page 452) were in demand. Cultures begin to clash with one another with different types

Importance Of Self Reflection
Research has been increasingly done on learning and self reflect and its effectiveness, one of the first
researchers john Dewey stated, we do not learn from experience... We learn from reflecting on
experience. John believed that deep learning comes from array of experience, reflection, abstraction,
and active testing. James Zull s (2002) fascinating book on the biology of learning, points out
evidence that the learning cycles arises naturally from the structure of the brain. Donald Schon also
amongst the first to write about reflective practice with his exploration of experience, interaction and
reflection with his book the reflective practitioner in 1983, Donald defines reflective practice as the
practice by which professionals become receptive of the implicit knowledge base and learn from their
experience. The practitioners allowed Donald to experience puzzlement, surprise or confusion in a
situation which is found uncertain or unique. Self reflection is like considering a mirror and describing
what you see. The term refers to an activity or process in which an experience is recalled, considered
and evaluated to gain insight on oneself, ones valued or knowledge gained. The ability to reflect on
experience encourages insight and complex learning. In contrast, self reflection is a process used to
study one s own performance in order to improve it. In order for one to succeed, it is vital to have
knowledge of what each strengths and weaknesses are for self development

Rights of Nature
We must take care of our environment by continually educating our youth on natural selection and the
four laws of ecology, and supporting environmental movements that recognize the rights of nature.
Impacts of climate change are increasingly felt by Earth s inhabitants including us, humans. The
current warming, which is only one degree Celsius, has affected different ecological processes such as
species genetics, seasonal response, overall distribution, and even morphology (Hance). Species are
suddenly disappearing. A study conducted by PLOS Biology found that more than 450 plants and

(Martin)
We still should maintain that the ecosystem consists of living species, which in their nature have the
right to evolve. Significantly, in 2008 Ecuador granted a statutory right on nature in which a
sustainable model of progress guarantees the conservation of biodiversity and the recovering capacity
of ecosystems.
For example, fish and other species in a river may be recognized as having the right to exist and
evolve (Martin). Ecologists are then pursuing legal protection of nature s right to evolve. This is an
appropriate response to Darwin s implications of natural selection. But why such law does not seize
the attention of the global audience?
Ecuador, Bolivia, and Argentina are the only countries, so far, which embrace the right of nature to
evolve (Laitos). Instead, we misuse natural resources which results in health issues and pollution
(Laitos). We also accelerate the nature s course to evolution through artificial selection or selective
breeding.
Artificial selection gets in the development of nature, which in turn produces lesser quality of a
species. As Darwin puts it: How fleeting are the wishes and efforts of man! , How short his time, and
consequently how poor will his products be, compared with those accumulated by nature during whole
geological periods. (Martin)
In other words, we weaken the art of nature. We selfishly only look at our own interest. Our own

Another option was technical school, but even if I enrolled in some kind of vocational school, the road
to success would still be very problematic, for even having a technical job in the area still kept you as

including the New Jersey side where we lived were high. Housing prices such as rent (never mind
mortgages) were high, car insurance rates were high, tolls were high and practically everywhere,
parking prices in the city were just ridiculous, and even public transportation costs would add up. In
one sentence, hourly salaries were just not keeping up with the rising cost of living in general. Years

Tone mapping technique used to map high dynamic range images to low dynamic range image that will be displayed on recent devices, thus keeping the image looking realistic. The tone mapping operators can be classified into two categories: global operators and local operators. Global operator task depends on the same mapping function is used for all the pixels of the input HDR image so, global operators can be described as spatially uniform methods. Global tone mapping operators are computationally very simple and maintain the intensity orders of the original scenes thus avoiding halo artifacts, but cause loss of details in the mapped images. Local operators which reproduce the tonal values in a spatially variant manner because mapping function processes for each individual pixel. Local operators characterized that more satisfying than global operators in terms of the detail preservation and compression ratio of the dynamic range. Also, there are two tone mapping model linear tone mapping model and nonlinear tone mapping model. Linear model does not need multiscale decomposition or segmentation of the images into binary or fractional maps, where the problems associated with layer decomposition are not found. Linear model not only interested in making the output images looks natural by enhancing the pixel intensity more significantly in highlights, but also satisfies high radiance similarity with ... • 4. The Transforming Vision By Brian Walsh And Richard Middleton The Transforming Vision, written by Brian Walsh and Richard Middleton, yearn for a change in the way Christianity is viewed. According to the authors, science, technology and economic growth is what shapes our society, while Christianity stands in the sidelines. The authors aspire to see a change in Christianity where it may receive social and cultural embodiment. In the first chapters, Walsh and Middleton explore the reason behind why Christianity of North Americans is so disembodied compared to others. In addition, Transforming Vision explores the different types of worldviews compared to a Christian worldview, or biblical view. Furthermore, it discusses how the different type of world views affects us and if there is any worldview better than another. Chapter 1, World View and Culture, begins with Anthony s story and how his decision had different responses. After Anthony became a Christian and grew as a person, he made the decision of leaving his girlfriend when he realized he did not love her. According to his family, loyalty is one of the greatest of moral duties, therefore, viewed Anthony s decision as an unpardonable sin. However, in a Christian s perspective his actions were honest and caring. Each side had a different point of view. World views are described in the book as perceptual frameworks and not systems of thought like theologies or philosophies. After freeing him, he turned into a little green man who granted him 3 wishes. Mr.Peters used one of his wishes to get a wife, and saved the others in case something went wrong. Aiken uses foreshadowing and indirect characterization to portray a theme that being a selfish and rude person never goes well in the end. Aiken used foreshadowing in The Third Wish to convey a theme that being a selfish and rude person never goes well in the end. In the beginning of the short story, Mr.Peters was granted three wishes after freeing a swan from a thorn bush. The swan then turned into a little man. This was who granted Mr.Peters the wishes and he warned him that people always use the wishes for selfish endeavors, it always ended in catastrophe. Mr. Peters, already knowing he was going to be smart with his wishes claimed that, He knew very well that the gift of three magical wishes was one which brought trouble more often than not.(...) He decided to use his first wish and keep the other two in case of emergency. (Mr.Peters pg 56) These few sentences tell the reader that he is going to use his wishes wisley instead of using it for something impractical. He knows that wishing for something that is life change never really ended up good in the end. It s always worse than when it started. This is why Mr.Peters was smart with his wishes. This little example of foreshadowing is not the only one the author used. In the middle of the passage his wife that he wished for, was longing for her old life back. Mr.Peters knew she was not happy. The passage claims that one night he heard her cry, Rhea! Rhea! I can t understand what you say! Oh wait for me, take me with you! Defense Of Mary Warren In The Crucible By Arthur Miller Emma Harrison 10/24/17 Ms. Ruiz Period 6 Defense of Mary Warren When it comes to Arthur Miller s allegorical work, The Crucible, very few characters can be deemed completely innocent. While just about every person in this story has a flaw of envy, pride, or selfishness, characters can often be sorted into the accuser or accused categories. One exception to this is Mary Warren. Throughout the story, her loyalties switch back and forth between these two sides. Due to this, she may seem like a selfish and unsympathetic character; that is not the case, however. Mary Warren is an abused and manipulated child, whose decisions in the story are certainly justified, given her situation. The first we see of Mary is when Betty falls ill after the the girls are caught congregating in the woods. Immediately, we see she is terrified, fully aware that them being accused of witchcraft would be a hangin error (1268). Abigail responds to her fear with an order to lie; she threatens them with violence should they not obey her. Abigail is one of Mary Warren s main abusers in the story. John Proctor, Mary s employer, enters the scene next. When he sees her away from his house, he scolds her in a humiliating fashion, even threatening to whip her. From the stage directions, we see she tries to retain a shred of dignity (1269), when this happens, leading to the belief that this reproach from Proctor is common in her life. Goldfish Metabolic Rate Lab Report The null hypothesis for this experiment is that there is no statistically significant relationship between the metabolic rate of goldfish and their exposure to light. The alternative hypothesis is that goldfish exposed to ambient light will exhibit a higher metabolic rate compared to goldfish that are exposed to dark light. Results Overall 86 goldfish (N=43) were used in the experiment. Altogether, 43 trails (2 fish per trial) were conducted in order to track the metabolic rates of the fishes. Differences in metabolic rates (with respect to light exposure) were calculated by measuring the changes of oxygen concentration in the water chambers where the fishes were placed. The change in oxygen consumption averaged 445(mgO_2)/(hr∙Kg) when the fishes were exposed to ambient light and 377(mgO_2)/(hr∙Kg) when the fish were exposed to dark light. The Theme Of Death In Hamlet 10 Bucks Everyone Dies, Bet (The Theme of Death in Hamlet Acts 4 and 5) There a significance, some deep and abiding meaning to death one that transcends our puny ability to understand? this quote is from chabad.org, by Maurice Lamm. Death is very hard to understand, is it a void which we never return? Death may be just the disintegration of our bodies that we all know as being kind of gross. The play Hamlet has several deaths in it, the play is known as the play of death. Hamlet being the little baby he is just goes around trying to figure out how to get the balls to kill the old man. In the play Hamlet throughout acts 4 and 5 the theme of death is very present, and one of the more major themes. The play Hamlet in act 4 shows the theme of death very well. The theme of death is a biggy in the world of themes throughout the play Hamlet. The play basically has everyone die in the end. Shakespeare shows his genius very well by slipping little clues about the death theme throughout the play. He sprinkles the death ingredients like he is a chef making a masterful entree. Hamlet infers on page 210 line 5, Compounded it with dust, whereto tis the dead. Here Hamlet is responding to Rosencrantz where Rosencrantz is asking Hamlet where he put the dead body of Polonius. The way that the two characters just throw death around like it is some kind of play toy is astonishing. Both Rosencrantz and Hamlet have lost their sensitivity to the subject of death. Lawrence R Samuel Ph.D. states from Psychology today, The end of life is now frequently a prolonged period carrying a heavy emotional, ethical, physical, and financial price, something that has helped make death this country s greatest taboo . This quote shows that death is now a huge taboo to talk about, but back then it really wasn t after Hamlet has killed polonius. Clearly, The theme of death is present during this time in the play Hamlet. The theme of death in Hamlet acts 4 and 5 are really shown by dulling the mind more sensitive subjects. In Part five of the book Right of Death and Power over Life, he discusses about the historical Sovereign Power where one is allowed to decide who has the right to live and who has the right to die. The sovereign uses his power over life through the deaths that he can command and uses his authority to announce death by the lives he can spare. Foucault then moves on to Disciplinary Power where he came up with the Panopticon where one is to believe they were under surveillance at all times. Such surveillance is still used in our everyday life such as schools, prisons, offices, hospitals, and mental institutes. Later in his life, Foucault discovered Bio power. This bio power ... (Foucault, p. 141) Since capitalism demands growth, such as establishment of new companies and the production of merchandises, it had to have methods of power capable of optimizing forces, aptitudes, and life in general without at the same time making them more difficult to govern. The life of humans was seen to be a significant element to politics and history. How a person lived developed into an item of authority and knowledge and needed to be synchronized, understood, and managed. The rules and regulations turned out to be less concerned towards threatening and making judgment, but became more concerned in stabilizing and making the conditions of life more effective. Recombinant Dna Techniques Essay In this experiment, individuals were able to use recombinant DNA techniques such as cloning to alter the DNA of a certain strain of yeast called Saccharomyces Cerevisiae. By the use of cloning, scientists are able to analyze and compare the genetic material of a specific organism to another. In this lab, the recombinant DNA techniques are used to transform AmpS E. Coli to AmpR E. Coli. This was done by using an insert, a vector, and a host. The insert was S. Cerevisiae genomic DNA, E. Coli plasmid was the vector, and E. Coli was the host. The technique of gel electrophoresis was also used to determine whether the DNA was cut or not with restriction enzymes. Uncut sequences of the DNA were sent to an outside laboratory for sequencing. Then when the sequencing was complete, computer programs, such as BLAST, were used to determine whether or not the genomic insert originates from a gene and if the yeast codes for a protein that could be found within the human genome. Introduction Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, more commonly known as baker s yeast or brewer s yeast, is very favorable to use in biotechnology because of the wide range of environmental conditions it could live in. S. • 33. The Tyger And The Lamb By William Blake Everything in the universe has an opposite. This provides a balance, a push and pull, to the world. Because of this truth, no thing that exists is entirely one thing or the other. Every animal, object, and event that has ever existed may have had bad effects in one situation, but good effects for another situation. And every human, by extension, has aspects about them that can be viewed as both good and evil. In his poems, The Tyger and, The Lamb , author William Blake explores the ideas of duality, and how each thing must have an equal opposite. He uses both these poems to further ruminate on this dichotomy and brings up many questions in the context of religion. He seeks to point out that in the Christian belief system, all things viewed as good and bad in the world have apparently come from the same thing: God, and yet God is seen as being entirely good. But if that is the case, then how can God be all good if all the evil things come from him as well? Is anything then truly evil? Or does it just seem that way from one perspective? Blake uses these two poems in conjunction with one another to make the reader question these things and think about what good and evil actually mean. Blake first published, The Lamb in his poetry collection The Songs of Innocence, and in this poem he presents a lamb as a metaphor for innocence and goodness. In the first stanza, the poem repeatedly asks, Little lamb, who made thee? / Dost thou know who made thee? (LI. 1 2). This question ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Significantly, in 2008 Ecuador granted a statutory right on nature in which a sustainable model of progress guarantees the conservation of biodiversity and the recovering capacity of ecosystems. For example, fish and other species in a river may be recognized as having the right to exist and evolve (Martin). Ecologists are then pursuing legal protection of nature s right to evolve. This is an appropriate response to Darwin s implications of natural selection. But why such law does not seize the attention of the global audience? Ecuador, Bolivia, and Argentina are the only countries, so far, which embrace the right of nature to evolve (Laitos). Instead, we misuse natural resources which results in health issues and pollution (Laitos). We also accelerate the nature s course to evolution through artificial selection or selective breeding. Artificial selection gets in the development of nature, which in turn produces lesser quality of a species. As Darwin puts it: How fleeting are the wishes and efforts of man! , How short his time, and consequently how poor will his products be, compared with those accumulated by nature during whole geological periods. Both authors existed at a different time in history, but they both convey a similar message that citizens should disobey government but their idea of government is completely different. Henry David Thoreau wrote Civil Disobedience, which is about him trying to persuade citizens that their obligation is to contravene and correct the unfair laws of the government. Thoreau begins Civil Disobedience with the view point That government is best which governs least Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense, to explain his vision of the ideal government, one where people vote and elect a person to run the country, which is similar to our democracy today( the great power of government be held in one elected legislature for the nation and one for each individual province ).
