Analysis Of Machiavelli s The Prince
There are three phases to time, the past, the present, and the future, and it is understanding the
relationship between these three phases and their collective relationship with mankind that has fueled
debates throughout the history of man. Niccolo Machiavelli and Immanuel Kant are political
philosophers who have grappled with these very relationships. Machiavelli wrote The Prince over
three centuries before the process of Italian unification had begun. The Italian Peninsula was
fragmented and could not stand on its own especially compared to the unified powers like Spain and
France. It is from this weak position that the Republic of Florence falls costing Machiavelli his own
political power. And so, Machiavelli writes his book in the middle the chaos of his own life but the
chaos that is dividing Italy as well. Kant s Idea for a Universal History from a Cosmopolitan point of
view is also written in a time of great turmoil as the American Revolution is winding down, and the
French Revolution is about to heat up. But, Kant writes from an isolated position in Königsberg
Prussia. Kant is an outsider looking in on the upheaval of the world but never venturing out to see it
firsthand, as he will never leave his home town for his entire life. And it is in this historical context
that these two men have developed radically different views on how man and time interact.
Machiavelli will insist on human agency and action in the here and now. Kant will conversely be more

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Hallucinations Essay
INTRODUCTION
Hallucinations are one of the most intriguing secrets of the mind, which are characterized by false
visions, sounds, taste, smell, and touch that can occur when one is awake; it has a sufficient sense of
reality, but one has no control over it. Hallucinations are the form of perception. There is no particular
part of the brain that is involved in hallucinating. For example, people seeing faces could have a
hyperactivity in fusiform face area involved in facial recognition. People with hyperactivity in the
auditory cortex might experience auditory hallucinations: hearing music, or voices, that are not there.
Hallucinations can be frightening, strange, or even amusing and divine. There are numerous causes of
hallucinations: they are usually experienced by people with schizophrenia, Charles Bonnet syndrome,
Parkinson s disease, or other psychological and mental disorders. However, hallucinations can also be
experienced by healthy individuals, who are the subjects for studying the nature and causes of
hallucinations, as they do not interact with other symptoms like in patients with schizophrenia.
Researchers use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans to track the brain activities
during hallucinations. The aim of this research paper is to describe several types of hallucinations,
ways of studying hallucinations, and possible treatments.
DISCUSSION
1. Emotional hallucinations Hallucinations do not have to be vivid; one of the most

The Leader as a Strategist Report
Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Redmond,
Washington, United States that develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports a wide range of
products and services predominantly related to computing through its various product divisions.
Established on April 4, 1975 to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800, Microsoft
rose to dominate the home computer operating system market with MS DOS in the mid 1980s,
followed by the Microsoft Windows line of operating systems. Microsoft is one of the largest software
corporations in the world that has diversified in recent years into the video game industry with the
Xbox and its successor, the Xbox 360 as well as into the consumer electronics and digital services
market with Zune, MSN and the Windows Phone OS. (Microsoft, 2015)
Primarily in the 1990s, critics contend Microsoft used monopolistic business practices and anti
competitive strategies including refusal to deal and tying, put unreasonable restrictions in the use of its
software, and used misrepresentative marketing tactics; both the U.S. Department of Justice and
European Commission found the company in violation of antitrust laws. Known for its interviewing
process with obscure questions, various studies and ratings were generally favorable to Microsoft s
diversity within the company as well as its overall environmental impact with the exception of the

Carrie Underwood Character
When I think of a role model in my life who demonstrates good character traits in his or her actions
and behaviors, I immediately think of country singer songwriter, Carrie Underwood. Carrie exhibits
trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, compassion, citizenship, and many other admirable
character traits. Carrie Underwood is the type of woman all parents want their children to grow up and
be like, (Hannaford). Carrie Underwood stands out in the sense that she doesn t rely so much on her
outward appearance, but rather on the way she carries herself in the public eye. When you look at the
media nowadays, it seems as if all female celebrities have resorted to acting crazy, dressing
provocatively, and behaving crudely; however, this is not the case with Carrie. Carrie does not
conform to these ways in order to gain herself some attention in the media. Carrie, unlike most
celebrities today, actually understands that any publicity isn t necessarily always good publicity. I can
think of many more reasons as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On her recent Blown Away tour, Carrie felt sick but still performed in Iowa. However, at the end of
her performance, she decided she hadn t given enough and didn t feel worthy of the paycheck. She
recycled every penny made from that performance back into the community as an apology for not
being able to give her usual 110 percent, (Hannaford). Carrie is also extremely good at prioritizing her
life. Carrie and her husband, Mike Fisher, are a strong and steady support system for one another.
They share a truly inspirational relationship. They just welcomed a beautiful, little boy to their family
in March, and Carrie is beaming with pride over her little bundle of joy! All of this goes to show that
not only is Carrie Underwood an insanely talented singer and performer, she is an even better person,

Poem Analysis On His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell
Andrew Marvell wrote a unique love poem in To His Coy Mistress, as this poem expresses far more
than one might expect or even perceive upon the first reading. Enveloped in this ode to a cherished
muse are expressions of the carpe diem philosophy, laments about the impending doom of death, and
hopes to transcend contemporary abilities to live forever in the love of another. While Marvell s
primary purpose in writing this piece may have been to woo a young maiden, he made a far more
significant contribution to the era s literary culture in the process. Marvell most directly addressed To
His Coy Mistress to a woman he intended to court, as he spends a majority of the piece lamenting that
he didn t have time sufficient to praise her features. In the opening stanza, Marvell states that, Had we
but world enough, and time.... An hundred years should go yo praise.... An age at least to every part, /
And the last age should show your heart (Marvell 1 18). While Marvell ones not directly praise or
describe his muse in any way, he does emphasize how extraordinarily praiseworthy she be, and this
idea forms the basis for the philosophical wonderings and realizations that comprised the following
stanzas. Thus, Marvell addressed his poem at a potential lover for the purpose of courting her on an
unknown occasion, but the real significance of the poem lies in the later ideas he presented to fulfill
this purpose. In his second stanza, Marvell takes a drastic turn from the romantic

The Blue Green Anesthesia Mask Essay
As I m wheeled through the silver doors into the sterile white operating room, I begin to panic. This is
my first surgery, and I feel as if I am in a living nightmare. Before I can even think about it, the nurses
guide me onto the skinny white operating room bed. A few seconds later, the blue green anesthesia
mask is put on my face, and I feel like I am going underwater with my eyes closed. Then everything
around me goes completely black. I was diagnosed with a rare, non agressive type of skin cancer on
my scalp in 2011. Soon after diagnosis, I underwent an MRI to see exactly how big the cancer was.
Fortunately, it was only the size of a pencil eraser. After seeing countless doctors, we (my parents and
I) finally decided to see a surgeon specializing in cancer at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in
downtown Chicago. We met with the cancer surgeon (Dr. Wayne), and he agreed to remove the cancer.
We also saw a plastic surgeon (Dr. Kim) the same day to discuss reconstruction options so that my
scalp would look as normal as possible after the surgery. My surgery is scheduled for the morning of
February 8, 2012 at 7 AM; however, we need to arrive at the hospital at 5:30 to start the preparation
process. As we walk through the Outpatient Surgery unit doors, I immediately notice the amount of
chaos surrounding the unit. You wouldn t know that it was only 5:30 AM with all the noise! There are

The Aztecs And The Incas Through Spanish Eyes Essay
During the fifteenth century, two major state based agrarian civilization, Aztec and Inca empires,
played a huge role by making up the population of the Americas. With this being said, a lot of the
Americas history lies within the boundaries of the empires. This history includes literary tradition,
records about the civilizations culture, and observations of the Spanish who conquered them in the
early sixteenth century. Document 12.1 concentrates on giving evidence through the eyes of two
Spanish observers, both of whom at least tried to connect with the civilizations and record first hand
records. By analyzing document 12.1, The Aztecs and the Incas through Spanish Eyes, it allows

Diego Duran wrote these documents for credibility and record so that decades from the fifteenth
century people will have the ability of knowing firsthand accounts of the social hierarchy and culture
of the Aztec realm as an empire.
In the Excerpt Laws, Ordinances, and Regulations, Diego Duran states up to sixteen points about the
Aztec culture; being mostly on how higher powers were respected throughout the palace. The author
simply states Moctezuma s laws without any bias opinion to follow. This leaves the reader with their
own opinion instead of a bias perception. Diego Duran simply wrote this document to inform the
reader about the Aztec s laws and government structure.
Within the document, Laws, Ordinances, and Regulations tell the readers a lot about the social and
moral values of the Aztecs. Majority of the laws pertain to high powers and order to the Aztecs
everyday life rules. The excerpt states, law #3, Only the king and the Prime Minister Tlacaelel may
wear sandals within the palace... This shows the Aztecs moral values, which are towards upholding
their king to a high power and respecting the fact he is the almighty one. The king must never appear
in public except when the occasion is extremely important and unavoidable. Having the king out of
the sight of the public tells the reader that the king is very powerful and has a sense of holiness to the
Aztec people. Other laws have to deal with punishments for wrongs in the civilization. Most

The Titanic s construction began on March 31, 1909. On May 31, 1911, the ginormous ship has sailed.
As on the night of April 14, 11:40 PM, lookouts spotted a large iceberg dead ahead. As the ship and
the iceberg move towards each other, BOOM! The Titanic and the iceberg crashed like two middle
schoolers in a hallway bumping into each other. A big total of 1,517 men, women, and children died
along with the Titanic. Most killed themselves after the Titanic s sinkage, and a total of 328 bodies
were found. But who was to blame of the sinkage?
Before the Titanic even set sail, something with the building of the ship was wrong. They used iron for
rivets and used number three iron instead of the normal

Corporals In The Marine Corps
The United States Marine Corps holds its Non commissioned Officers, or NCOs, to a higher standard

installed in multimillion dollar war assets, such as the F 18 or EV 8B where the safety of the pilots and
those on the ground are in the hands of the Corporal collateral duty inspector. We Marines see the title
of NCO as a sacred title. The amount of responsibility that is given to the rank of Corporal can be

Ted Demme s Blow
Ted Demme s Blow is a highly informative movie about America s war on drugs. Although
dramatized at times, the film depicts the war on drugs rather accurately and captures the true essence
of why America is fighting a war on drugs. Rather than generalizing the drug war to its audience, the
film individualizes it to help facilitate the understanding of topics such as drug smuggling, mandatory
minimum sentencing, and sting operations. The formation of an almost personal connection with
George Jung is crucial in the beginning of the film. Including Jung s background information is
necessary to show how he truly had the mindset to start selling drugs in the first place. The audience
becomes understanding of Jung from that moment and stay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At the end of the movie, George Jung decided that after legally making his own money he wanted to
have one last drug job for some extra cash, little did he know that his old gang was setting him up to
be caught by the federal government. Although the movie does not show the work done by the federal
government to find out this information, it showed how easy it is for the government to still access
anything they want. In the world of drug cartels, wiretapping is extremely important since law
enforcement can directly listen into conversations and use it as evidence against the drug offenders. In
some cases, previous drug cartel members are turned into informants so the government can set up a
sting operation, which is what happened to George Jung. Since the drug deal already went through and
he was in possession of the cocaine, there was nothing Jung could do to escape law enforcement.
Operations like this can be very risky nowadays since drug cartels are rather violent, but for the time
Jung was in the drug business it was perfect. Jung s crime itself also showed how strict sentencing had
become for drug offenders over the years. For simply conspiring to smuggle drugs, Jung received a 60
year prison sentence. Although his sentence was extremely reduced for testifying against his old
partner, the 60 year sentence is still very extreme for simply smuggling drugs into the United States.
This shows the harshness of the drug laws in the United States and how the country is trying to do
everything in their power to win the war on

Analysis of the Little Mermaid Essay
The Little Mermaid Analysis
The Little Mermaid is an example of how woman were seen in society. In the fairy tale, women are
characterized by appearance rather than personality by both men and women. The little mermaid
mentions But if you take my voice, what shall I have left? (Anderson 226). In this quote, the little
mermaid believes that she cannot just be herself to win the prince s heart. The prince also looks at
women the same way because of how he talks to the little mermaid. He asks her, You ve no fear of the
sea, have you, my dumb child? (Anderson 229). He treats her as if she is still a small child just
because she cannot speak. The tone helps shape the whole story into a feminist piece. Anderson relays
the moral of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the little mermaid went to the sea witch to be changed into a human, she told her, How stupid of
you! Still, you shall have your way, and it ll bring you into misfortune, my lovely Princess (Anderson
226). The sea witch had already warned the little mermaid even before she made the potion that it
would not go as she planned. The little mermaid, being young and foolish about love, did what she
believed was right. The tone here spoken by the sea witch gives caution towards the mermaid.
Anderson uses the witch as a way to portray to the reader how it is easy to make mistakes in the matter
of love. This example is given when the witch informs her that, ... and if you don t win the Prince s
love, so that he forgets father and mother for you and always has you in his thoughts and lets the priest
join your hands together to be man and wife, they you won t get an immortal soul (Anderson 226).
The author uses a reproving tone to demonstrate to the reader how the little mermaid is foolish, carried
away in her childish dreams. Anderson characterizes the sea witch in such a way that her dialogues
warn women to be careful when it comes to sacrificing themselves for anyone. The imagery used to
describe how lovely the mermaid is portrays what the prince wanted as a wife. When the prince found
her on the shore and took her in as one of his own people, he took care of and adored her, but he
would not marry her because she could not

Parent-Related Study Of Marijuana Essay
There has been an extensive amount of research done on risk factors and marijuana use. Among
adolescents the vast majority of the research has identified five major risk factors associated with
adolescent marijuana use, family relations (parent child attachment), peer associations, substance
abuse programs, gender, and race. Some researchers have found that the family is the best predictor of
adolescent marijuana use, while others claim that peer associations are predictors of adolescent
marijuana use. Others believe that substance abuse programs are the key to deterring adolescent drug
use. The final groups of researchers believe gender and race are the underlining predictors. The
following studies will give a quick overview of the prior research on risk factors and adolescent
marijuana use.
Parent Child Attachment According to Hoffmann (1993) adolescents who suffer from a parental death
or divorce are likely to turn to marijuana to help cope with the stress that has been created. A death or
divorce is extremely detrimental to adolescents because it hinders them from creating or continuing a
bond with their family. A strong family relationship rarely affects adolescent behavior after a negative
event like this occurs. Because attachment has been weakened by a big event, it is very difficult to
regain the family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Family disruptors such as divorce and remarriage also have particular influences on drug use. Older
adolescents are greatly affected by divorce and remarriage because the family structure has changed.
This tends to make older adolescents look for support systems outside the home. The effects of the
change can cause adolescents to seek out positive or negative relationships with peers. Younger
adolescents are less affected by family disruptors because they do not have the same opportunities or
freedom to look outside the home for support, as do older adolescents

Popular Musical Development And Societal Development
The Start of Tropicalismo
Popular musical development and societal development are usually parallel with one another. Artists
and musicians can change a society and have an enormous impact on how a country runs itself. A
good example of how a country can be influenced by new, innovative music would be the
Tropicalismo movement. Caetano Veloso is a Brazilian musician that started the Tropicalia movement
and created music that combined many elements of different music together, and Veloso did this with
other tropicalists. The background of Caetano Veloso, the two songs Caetano Veloso produced,
information about Tropicalia, and the background of Brazil can help us comprehend how music has a
great impact and influence on society. Tropicalia is more than just a music genre produced in the late
1960s, but a social political movement that radically changed the way Brazilians saw contemporary
Brazilian music.
Caetano Veloso s start as a Brazilian musician was back in 1942 when Veloso finished school in Santa
Amaro, and he moved to Salvador where he learned how to play the guitar and sing. (Veloso, Caetano)
Veloso would spend his time at bars with his sister and perform music for people s entertainment.
Veloso met Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil, and Tom Zé in 1963 where they started musical shows as a group.
(Veloso, Caetano) One of the musical shows that they started was Vila Velha theatre with Veloso
directing the theatre. In 1965, Veloso left Federal University of Bahia to go to Rio de

Personal History
I was born in January, 1939 in Rosemont, a small village in Maryland of a few hundred people. My
father was a World War I veteran and my mother a sort of teacher, running some version of a reading
school for the kids in the community. 1939 means I was born in the same year that the Second World
War began and that earned me the nickname the baby s that s getting his father to go to another war .
However, my father developed a terminal illness that meant that his participation in World War 2
would only be to explain the essence and likely ramification of reported war incidents and statements
to myself and my four siblings. Inspired by my father s war stories especially those that detailed the
extent that many American soldiers would go to defend their country, and also by the early Cold War
politicking, I enrolled in the US Naval Academy and passed out in 1955. At the time, the Cold War
was at its height and as was more than likely at the time, I fought in the Vietnam War in the 1960s.
The Vietnam period was when my father s World War 1 tales and dissections of World War 2 actions
became most alive to me. The

In Pre Modern Europe, Jews would be the largest minority. Jews would follow their own law of
Judaism (which had rules such as how to dress and when to work) that would differ from the Christian
way. Because of this difference, there was a little tension between the Christians and Jews, but they
did co exist. However, Jews did sometimes get expelled from certain regions. Furthermore, Jews
would not be treated as people who practiced a different religion but as people of a separate biological
race. Now as countries and borders became more and more apparent, nationalism came on the rise. In
order to be nationalistic and band together with others of the same nationality, one must have
something or someone to band together against, and unfortunately but predictably, Jews were the
target of this newfound nationalism. This resentment of the Jews in Europe had been instilled in their
mindset going into the interwar period ( Racism, Anti

For example, in Protocols of the Elders of Zion, written in 1902, someone who had anti Semitic views

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is one of Mark Twain s most celebrated novels. Although it is
viewed as a continuation of another work of his, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (as is referenced in

the subtle but effective manner in which it managed to bring forth into discussion a great number of

When an advertiser places one of their advertisements into a newspaper, they want their advertisement
to appeal to the readers of that particular magazine. They could have the exact same message, but
considering their audience, they could make it more effective if they use a different strategy to market

The Pros And Cons Of Recommendation By MPKB
5.3.2 Recommendation by MPKB Imposed stricter punishment Besides that, other recommendation
that could be done to improve the MPKB s effort is to impose stricter punishment to those who not
pay the tax such as the assessment tax or not paying permit to sell at the stalls. This is because, MPKB
had taken a lot of efforts in order to ensure the implementation of the Safe City Programme to be
successful such as by providing the infrastructure, maintenance of the areas, design a physical
environment that is safe and informing the people about the programme through the mass media.
However, in order to continuously do the effort, MPKB needs to have strong financial resources and
this not only come from the Federal Government but also from the state government or the local
government itself. Generally, the resources for financial of MPKB comes from the tax. The tax then
will be used in order to do the maintenance of the Safe City programme such as the facilities.
Nevertheless, most of the public are neglecting their responsibility to pay the tax that had been

Catastrophe Of Rats
The large, diabolical, disease carrying rodents can be found all around the world. The multiple species
of rats can be found almost anywhere, no matter where they originated from. The hellish rats have
caused many problems to all of society which is leaving people to investigate deeper about the
mysterious creatures. The worldwide catastrophe of rat infestations is causing humans to consider
what is the cause, how is it affecting the society, and how the crisis can be solved. To begin, the
influence of rats converging to the human world is being caused by harsh weather and overabundance

example in source 2 it states, Dr Belmain says that, when the rats come, some people simply do not
bother planting crops. They just accept that it is pointless. The quote is showing how farmers and
citizens are lowering the usage of food by not producing it. By using this method, it causes there to be
no food for the rats to come after. To sum it up, preventing rat infestations is possible and the society

This PROMIS scale measures associations between HRQOL and symptoms that patients with IPF
experience (Yount et.al, 2016). The sample from this study was 220 individuals who presented with
IPF and were ages fifty and older who had not already received a lung transplant (Yount et.al, 2016).
The data for this study was collected by individuals, reported being told by a doctor that they have
idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), who completed an online questionnaire, and seven to ten days
later were retested for reliability. When reliability was determined, these individuals where then given
a survey of demographic and helath related questions, the Modified Medical Research Council
Dyspnea Scale, the PROMIS 29 profile, and the PROMIS dyspnea severity short form (Yount et.al,
2016). The results from this study concluded that compared to the general population, patients with
IPF had PROMIS scale scores that were significantly lower. The deficits that these patients face need

Biodiversity In The Arctic Region
The Effect of Global Warming on Biodiversity in the Arctic Region As the impact of global warming
on the environment exponentially expands, issues such as increasing air and water temperatures, rising
water levels in coastal regions, growing severity of storms, polar ice melting, increased acidity in
oceans, and altered environments and habitats also worsen at an alarming rate (Denshak). These are
not unknown concepts, but what is less known is the effect that global warming has on the Arctic

Compensation Philosophy Paper
Compensation Philosophy
It most likely goes without saying that people who work for a living do so in order to get paid.
Everyone has bills and living expenses that need to be paid; therefore, individuals exchange our time
for a paycheck so these expenses can be addressed. However, since most people spend more time at
work than they do with their families, there should to be a larger reason than pay that drives each of us
to get up every morning to go to a job. It is the responsibility of the organization to provide its
employees with that reason, and it comes in the form of a compensation philosophy. It is the intention

Also, a lot of smaller football players like to watch bigger people play and it wouldn t set a good

Christian Philosophy of Education Essay
Christian Philosophy of Education As we go through our day by day lives in a very secular world, I
believe it is very easy to question ourselves as Christian educators. We ask ourselves if we are doing
our jobs exactly to God s calling. Are we striving to teach the truth? And with that, what is truth?
According to Gaebelein in his book The Pattern of God s Truth, All truth is God s truth. As educators
we are called upon to cultivate Christlike minds (Moreland). This is quite the task, especially given
our surrounding circumstances and constant secular environment. Not only are we, as educators
surrounded by this secularism, but our young, adolescent students are as well. So, how do we

As Christian educators, we are called to promote and support learning in those areas. True teaching is
a sharing of realities, likening the teaching process and weaving connections between their teachings
and understandings themselves and the world around them. If we do not make connections for the
students to the world around them, many times these precious gifts graced upon them will be
overlooked or passed by because the young minds may not be able to recognize them. Some areas of
observation might be seen as open doors to see or perceive and understand something of God and His
motion as reflected through the created world and the Bible. Other areas might be seen as open doors
to respond, apply, express and practice in ways that are consistent with biblical values. When these
areas are discovered and embraced, many times they can address the major developmental needs in
the spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, and emotional realms of the student s life. Identifying these
areas is helping the students begin their walk with the Lord and their own calling. The teaching
learning environment should be receptive to the nature of human nature as it was originally created in
the image of God. This means it should acknowledge students as creatures of God (again, not simply
as subjects in a room) by engaging and stimulating the full

Battle Of Bunker Hill Essay
THE BATTLE OF BUNKER HILL Introduction The Battle of Bunker Hill was one of the first battles
fought during the American Revolution between a misfit army of American colonists and the Royal
British Army. The Revolutionary War was a result of patriot colonists speaking out against the taxes
and regulations being imposed upon them by King George III and resulted in the establishment of
America as an independent nation. The objectives of the Battle of Bunker Hill were first and foremost
to stand up to the British army, and secondly, to keep the British from gaining complete control over
the city of Boston and the surrounding area. History Historically, The Battle of Bunker Hill is one of,
if not THE most notable battle during the American Revolution. Events leading up to the Battle of
Bunker Hill began twelve years prior with the British Proclamation of 1773 which prohibited colonists
from settling west of the Appellation Mountains.1 Over the next twelve years, British rule instituted
many expensive taxes on everything from marriage licenses to sugar and tea. Harsh treatment from the

Descriptive Basketball Game
When you re stressed out where do you go? We all have a place where we can go and relieve our
stress. Whether it s a physical place or a state of mind we all have a place where we feel untouchable.
Where the never ending piles of class work and the constant nagging of friends seem to dissolve like
kool aid in water until left with nothing but a smooth mixture of me, myself, and I. For me this place
is the court: the basketball court. When I open the doors of the gym I am met with the familiar sound
of squeaking shoes and balls bouncing on the hardwood floors. I go to sit on the aged wooden
bleachers and watch the game that is currently taking place. The weight my worries are being lifted a
little as I get wrapped up in the game. The guard is bringing the ball up the court his eyes scanning for
an opening to either pass or shoot the ball. The opposing team has every man covered leaving little to
no room for the guard and his teammates to set up the play. As soon as the guard sets foot pass half
court two defenders go to trap him. Wrong move. The guard quickly, almost effortlessly sidesteps one
of the defenders and dribbles the ball through the leg of the other and proceeds to pass the ball to one
of his teammates who take the ball straight to the rim. I can t help but smile at this perfectly executed
play as the game continues. There are several more plays like this made on both sides but, they all
seem to dull in comparison with the first one.
While their game is coming to an end, my problems slowly begin to creep their way back into my
mind as I begin to stretch. Loosing up my body for the intense workout that is coming. As they get off
the court I decide to begin my workout with some basic ball handling drills. Through the left leg,
behind the back, around the right, switch, through the right leg, behind the back, around the left leg,
repeat. The ball flowing smoothly through my legs like water as I continue to increase the pace until I
ve done this ten times on each leg. As I continue my problems are beginning to matter less and less.
Next, I start my shooting drills and I am soon welcomed by the feeling of the ball leaving my hand.
And like when an archer releases his arrow from his bow and is

Romantic Comedy
Romantic Comedy has been around for many generations enticing the public with ideas of love and
romance in a humorous way. According to Dictionary.com Romantic Comedy is defined as, a movie
or play that deals with love in a light, humorous way. For all romantic comedies to make this happen,
they follow three simple rules. Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back. As Brian Finnigan
from The Five Golden Rules of Romantic Comedy says, Different but the same, He wants She Wants,

There was not much luck.
Animal comedy came during the late 70s and 80s. Due to the lack of character growth between the
beginning and the end of the movie, these films are great for sequels. Characteristically, animal
comedy is about pigs who want to have meaningless sex with women, and due to the lack of character
change, at the end of the movie, the characters still want to have meaningless sex with women.
The most used Romantic comedy style today is Modern American Romantic Comedy. The woman is
portrayed to be equal to the man. A great example that really changed the way romantic comedy was
viewed was When Harry Met Sally. Women gave their point of view on relationships and could
express equality with men. As James Murphy from moviereal.com states, Can men and women ever
be just friends? Is it possible to move on from the one you love? Is love at first sight ever true love? Is
there just one person for everyone? Can I be a big corporate superman AND a decent human being?
Etc. These are some questions from romantic comedies that prove the point that women were viewed
differently in this film and that caused movies the future movies to change the way the portray women
and men together.
Finally, Geek Comedy began in 1998. Like animal comedy the characters start out wanting to have
meaningless sex with the opposite sex. The difference is there is a character change throughout the
storyline and by the end of the

Trench Conditions In Ww1 Essay
Early on in World War 1, protection for troops became a vital aspect of war as a result of the increased
power, accuracy and precision of newly developed weapons. Armies began to dig large corridors in
the ground that became known as trenches. Originally thought to only be a temporary defensive tactic
soon became a primary part of warfare. However, the conditions in the trenches became harsh and
unsanitary due to battle raging around them and the lack of previsions. As a result, illness and disease
spread rapidly and the reality of war as well as the traumatic experiences soldiers faced impacted
troops in the short and long term. As trenches became a more frequent tactic, the simple design was
improved and adjusted to suit the troops, area and task that it would be used for. They became a very
important part of tactical warfare and some layouts could be very complex. Trenches were first used
on the Western Front by both opposing sides. Due to severe exhaustion, dwindling resources and the
horrific death toll, both sides dug into the ground and assumed a defensive post. Most trenches were
dug deep enough that men couldn t be seen from above. Troops were then ordered to seek momentary
cover in the trenches (FIGURE 1) however eventually it became their permanent front line. ... Show

Stargirl Monologue
I don t agree with Leo s choice because he only just made the problem even more difficult for Stargirl
and himself. During the shunning and after his visit with Archie there were times where Leo would
avoid Stargirl and also he wishes that they could be more like them or they could be more like Stargirl.
He doesn t really do anything to fix the shunning. The only thing he did was change Stargirl into
Susan, but it seems like it was more for Leo not for Stargirl. He seem to love Susan more than Stargirl
because she finally more like them. Like the rest of Mika students.
When Susan went back into Stargirl because she realize that being normal and trying to be popular
wasn t helping the shunning at all. People still wouldn t talk to her. Leo

Determining the Empirical Formula of Magnesium Oxide Essay...
Determining the Empirical Formula of Magnesium Oxide
INTRODUCTION:
The empirical formula is the simplest and lowest whole number ratio of the different atoms in a
sample of compound. To work out the empirical formula, the value of moles of the different atoms in a
compound is needed. Mole is just simply a unit used to measure the amount of atoms, just like how
the unit dozen is used to measure things such as eggs. One mole is 6Ã 10^23 atoms and this number is
called the Avogadro number. The mole can be also defined as the number of atoms in exactly 12g of
Carbon.

Sebastian Character Monologue
So, if you saw, I changed my mind about the Sebastian x Reader thing. It s going to be all boy
characters (excluding Ciel and Alois, they are gonna be for Luna which I am also going to share her
POV as I said in the last chapter. :D By the way, if you like vocaloid songs, you ll like this song! It s
been my favorite for a while now :D Today was the day after Sebastian informed me about the Ball
and the day before it begins. I promised myself that I wanted to improve my relationships with the
servants of the manor excluding Sebastian. So, what do I do? Help them, of course. Currently, I was
helping Finny trim the rose bushes. It was a really tedious task, because Finny said that Ciel likes only
white roses in the garden. It was awkward because we were too shy to think of anything to say. Hi

Really, all he needed was to chop up vegetables, get a pot to boiling level, drop the vegetables in, and
get some sort of ingredient to make the soup. I forgot which however.. but don t worry. Sebastian has
already made the soup part, we have to just chop up the vegetables and put it in the pot. Oy, Lily, what
vegetables do we need for this again? Baldroy asked, scratching the back of his head. I sighed. Boys
know nothing about cooking, except for Sebastian. We need carrots, cabbage, celery, onions, and
green beans. It s really healthy and delicious once we get it done.. Baldroy just looked at me with a
dumbfounded face. Wha, we need all that?! Can t we just use a flamethrower? It probably works the
same way without vegetables. I mentally sighed. Bard was being an idiot. Can you get them from the
cellar please? I asked, ignoring his previous statement. Alright. Baldroy headed in an unknown
direction and I watched him disappear. I leaned on the counter, waiting for him to come back. Soon
enough he did come back, carrying a sack with vegetables inside

Discrimination Against Older Workers During The Labor...
Discrimination against older workers is one of the forbidden grounds of discrimination in the labour
market across Canada. Age discrimination affects an older adult s career, advancements, opportunities,
and privileges in the labour market. Furthermore, older adults tend to be marginalized,
institutionalized, and stripped of responsibility, power, and their dignity (Nelson 208). The Canadian
population is aging rapidly and that changes in the population age structure have led to considerable
discussion of ageism and social policies like mandatory retirement and old age security. Employers
continue to have negative attitudes and stigma toward older workers (Klassen and Gillin 36). Social
policy like mandatory retirement is the leading form ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mandatory retirement refers to an organization of the labor market that requires employees to
withdraw their services at an arbitrary age and age discrimination refers to social behavior in which
age categories are used for the basis of a variety of employment decisions like hiring, promoting, and
firing employees (Gillin and Klassen 87). Furthermore, this article examines the health issues and
poverty in the older population, and the evolution of social policies, like mandatory retirement and old
age security, in Canada. Mandatory retirement has a long history in the Canadian labour market
system. Retirement is a social institution which emerged in the industrialized revolution during the
beginning of the 20th century (McDonald 2). The social policy was developed along with the
introduction of private and public pension plans (McDaniel and Um 75). Until recently, mandatory
retirement was allowed in all of Canada jurisdictions except for Manitoba and Quebec (Gomez and
Gunderson 2). Mandatory retirement was most prominent for males and persons with higher
education, better health, full time work, lived in urban locations and has higher income (Gomez and
Gunderson 4). Maximum age limits are used by employers to institute mandatory retirement policies
and the maximum age limits are used by employers to govern mandatory retirement policies. These
limits have been challenged under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which applies to all

Lorenzo And Santa Maria Novella Comparison
A comparison between the structure of San Lorenzo and Santa Maria Novella discloses the same style
of High Classical age of fifth century Greece that Alberti and Brunelleschi both aimed to achieve. In
Santa Maria Novella, Alberti introduced Classical features around the portico with Classical
proportions. Moreover, elements such as pilasters, cornices and a pediment in the Classical style were
used instead of sculptures. In regards to the façade designed by Alberti, the incorporation of two large
scrolls to bridge the different levels of the central nave to the lower side aisles was another feature of
Church facades in late Renaissance, Baroque and Classical Revival architecture.
Comparably, in the Old Sacristy of San Lorenzo designed by Brunelleschi, ... Show more content on

As shown in diagram one, the vast interior of Santa Maria Novella is divided into a nave, a short
transept and two aisles. The plan of San Lorenzo (diagram two), inspired by classical art, on the other
hand consists of three naves and a conceptualization of modules of aisles. Both plans are spatially
longitudinal with a singular emphasized large nave to convey austerity. Moreover, the exposure of the
full length floor when one enters San Lorenzo produces a visual highlight of centralization in the area
of the transept, of which the central dome meets the corners of a square. This combination of curve
and square is Brunelleschi s rational perception of geometric relationships an important contrast to
Gothic architecture, where cathedrals were intended to awe and mystify the viewer with the
flamboyant beauty of the sacred. The Renaissance church, in contrast, desires to communicate the idea
that math and science were paths to the sacred, as echoed by Alberti in his treatise, Della Pittura, the
harmony of all parts in relation to one another and that this concord is realized in a particular number,
proportion and arrangement demanded by harmony.

Realism And The Theory Of Realism
Introduction
The idea of Realism was unofficially was created in fifth century BC by Thucydides, and continued
through Niccolo Machiavelli. This lead to the first official IR theory of realism in Thomas Hobbes,
amd Hans Morgenthau, known as Classical Realist. From there Classical Realism evolved to the ideas
of Kenneth Waltz, which brought along the ideas of neo realism or structural realism theory. Then
came offensive, defensive, and neoclassical realism. Overall the main idea of realism is defined by
internationalrelations.org as when looking at the political system, or more specifically, the
international system, realists focus their ideas about how international relations work based upon the
concepts of power and security. ( Realism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ranges from military presence to business presence. These countries want a piece of Afghanistan
politics. This analysis of Realism will use this situation as an example of why these countries are
involving themselves in Afghanistan, to better understand the theory.
System and Power
A system, from a neorealist point of view is described by Waltz as A system is composed of a structure
and of interacting units. The structure is the system wide component that makes it possible to think of
the system as a whole. Waltz furthermore goes into how to define a structure A structure is defined by
the arrangement of its parts. (Waltz, 1979) Bringing the neorealism theory that looking at politics,
structure is the arrangement of the states, not the collection of them. This leads in to the neorealism
idea that there is no central authority, and the world depends on balance (Sterling Folker, 2013). That
the one thing structure or balance depends on is the states, not NGOs or other actors. From a classical
realism perspective according to Morgenthau s It is a characteristic aspect of all politics, domestic as
well as international, that frequently its basic manifestations do not appear as what they actually are
manifestations of a struggle for power . (Morgenthau, Thompson Clinton, 2010) Morgenthau is saying
that states are power seekers, and strive for dominance which is

Once The World Transitioned Into The “Digital Age”, Many
Once the world transitioned into the digital age , many believed that advanced movements in
technology would positively impact everyone. Some would argue that this is the case several decades
later, as people are becoming more comfortable with using technology on a regular basis. However,
there has been many people who have came to the conclusion that the use of technology on a daily
basis has negatively effected the ability of humans to effectively think or portray information.
Technology has its positive aspects, such as, improving the health of a relationship or helping people
think creatively. Then, technology has its lows, such as, it gives people anxiety problems or people
that become attached to their technological device, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, Carr states that when reading a narrative that it has become difficult to comprehend the
information that was read a few pages ago because his mind would travel to other places (314). Before
his increased reliance on technology, he was able to comprehend most of the information that was in
the text he was reading. Now, that technology has basically taking over his life, it is very hard for Carr
to understand what is specifically going on in any specific article. Some people believe that newer
technology has impacted people s ability to think deeply, but there is another argument that has arisen
as well. Along the same lines, some people argue that newer forms of communication, such as text
messaging and social media, has resulted in a decline in intimacy in the relationships that people have
been apart of. Some may argue that the ability to think deeply and a downward trend in intimacy are
parallel issues with each other because if someone cannot think deeply enough, then this person is
mostly likely going to result to the internet for help with a specific issue in a relationship, rather than
actually talking with the person up front. Mostly, the intimacy issues happen when people (usually
teenagers) prefer to speak to someone over the phone or by texting compared to speaking with the
recipient in person. Sherry Turkle, author of No Need to Call which is in the book They Say/I Say, is

Since be promoted to these occupations, you become a leader under some situations. Most people did
not realize and think over what they should do for the position. In this paper, it will provide a general
aspect of characteristics, process of leadership and then apply to accounting firm. Generally, before
becoming a leader, individual has many characteristics for working as an employee. It should be
discussed first that what kind of characteristics is helpful to become a leader in the future. The trait
theory of leadership is due to some traits, leader is different from others. It can separate into five key
factors: neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. The
study shows that extraversion, openness to experience, and agreeableness were significantly correlated
with leadership. (Amy E. Colbert, 2012, P. 678) Extravert is more controlling and more willing to
share ideas to contribute the group so that he is more likely to be a leader. Openness to experience
means it is creativeness and different opinion and it usually contribute more in the group, lead to
group success, and become a leader. Agreeableness is the inclination to endure, cooperate, and believe.
Workers who have these personalities would be helpful to establish leadership. Besides traits are
highly related to leadership, they also fit with behaviors which will achieve the goal. The

Emtala
Background
EMTALA is the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act that was developed in 1985 as part of
the Title IX of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act that went into effect in the year
1986 (Sara Rosenbaum, 2012). EMTALA was developed after an article was published in 1986 that
documented how Cook County Hospital in Chicago was receiving patients that were dumped there
that were unemployed, minorities, and lacked health insurance (Singer, 2014). This problem also
occurred in 1983 in Dallas where over 200 patients were transferred between hospitals that were not
stable (Singer, 2014). EMTALA is under the direction of the Department of Health and Human
Services and was developed to address the needs of Americans ... Show more content on

The filing of the complaint must be completed within 72 hours of the transfer (Sally Austin, 2011). As
a result of this, it has been difficult to see whether or not EMTALA has truly been successfully
implemented and effective (Sara Rosenbaum, 2012). Another disadvantage is that EMTALA only
requires hospitals to treat true emergencies , which are subjective in nature. The last revisions in 2003
for EMTALA by policymakers and CMS limited EMTALA to only patients that arrived to the
emergency department, not to other areas of the hospital, such as a doctor s office appointment or
outpatient surgery (Sara Rosenbaum, 2012). Another negative consequence of EMTALA that is not
addressed by the law is that emergency department physicians can still be held liable and face
malpractice issues by uninsured patients (Singer, 2014). There have been legislative proposals by
members of Congress that are working to change this to include physicians as members of the Public
Health Services, which would address these concerns (Singer, 2014). These hesitations by physicians
has forced some hospitals to close their emergency departments in California to avoid these financial
consequences of lawsuits (Friedman, 2011). As a policymaker, EMTALA was

The Works Of Rembrandt And Rubens
The Works of Rembrandt and Rubens
During the 17th century, especially after their break from Spain, The United Provinces of the
Netherlands became the most prosperous nation in Europe by leading the world in trade, science, and
art. Through the huge and one of the first art markets, art became a common household possession and
allowed artists to freely express themselves, which is one of the evidential factors in three of the most
universally admired artists of the baroque art era. Rubens, an influential Flemish artist of the Italian
baroque scene, focused more on the works of the counter reformation while the masters of the Dutch
baroque art, such as Rembrandt, were in the heart of the protestant Dutch Republic. These three artists
share similar artistic styles but yet have extremely evident differences and influences. The artists work
also have a great portrayal of the historical and social impacts of the 17th century.
This dynamic century shaped much of the modern world of today. With all the great scientific
discoveries and the recent protestant reformation, the world no longer revolved around religious
devotion and mysticism but had a stronger focus on individuality. The laws of nature and observation
by reasoning proved that everyone is capable of observing the world through mathematics, logic, and
experimentation. Another major characteristic of the 17th century is the major political decisions and
the international struggle for colonial domination. Colonialism was

Lucky Alice Sebold Analysis
I quickly changed after that day. It was a scorching summer day, and we got dispatched out for a
motorcycle accident. We had to land the life flight because the accident was so awful. I was around
fourteen years old and I never saw anyone pass away before. The ambulance heaved up, and the crew
of the helicopter came running over. The guy was a bloody chaos, and he was having a rigid time
staying alive. They underwent rolling him over to the helicopter when he passes away. I and the other
firefighters were holding tarps up so the mob of society couldn t see him as the EMT s performed
CPR. They kept pushing down on his chest for a while until they finally announced that he was
deceased. He had major bleeding on the inside and out. That day I saw someone just fade. I realized at
that point how lucky I was to be alive. I may not have gone through the same change as Alice Sebold
did, but that made me see things from a different perspective. I definitely don t understand what Alice
went through and she is a very strong individual. In the novel Lucky by Alice Sebold, Alice could

  • 2. Analysis Of Machiavelli s The Prince There are three phases to time, the past, the present, and the future, and it is understanding the relationship between these three phases and their collective relationship with mankind that has fueled debates throughout the history of man. Niccolo Machiavelli and Immanuel Kant are political philosophers who have grappled with these very relationships. Machiavelli wrote The Prince over three centuries before the process of Italian unification had begun. The Italian Peninsula was fragmented and could not stand on its own especially compared to the unified powers like Spain and France. It is from this weak position that the Republic of Florence falls costing Machiavelli his own political power. And so, Machiavelli writes his book in the middle the chaos of his own life but the chaos that is dividing Italy as well. Kant s Idea for a Universal History from a Cosmopolitan point of view is also written in a time of great turmoil as the American Revolution is winding down, and the French Revolution is about to heat up. But, Kant writes from an isolated position in Königsberg Prussia. Kant is an outsider looking in on the upheaval of the world but never venturing out to see it firsthand, as he will never leave his home town for his entire life. And it is in this historical context that these two men have developed radically different views on how man and time interact. Machiavelli will insist on human agency and action in the here and now. Kant will conversely be more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Hallucinations Essay INTRODUCTION Hallucinations are one of the most intriguing secrets of the mind, which are characterized by false visions, sounds, taste, smell, and touch that can occur when one is awake; it has a sufficient sense of reality, but one has no control over it. Hallucinations are the form of perception. There is no particular part of the brain that is involved in hallucinating. For example, people seeing faces could have a hyperactivity in fusiform face area involved in facial recognition. People with hyperactivity in the auditory cortex might experience auditory hallucinations: hearing music, or voices, that are not there. Hallucinations can be frightening, strange, or even amusing and divine. There are numerous causes of hallucinations: they are usually experienced by people with schizophrenia, Charles Bonnet syndrome, Parkinson s disease, or other psychological and mental disorders. However, hallucinations can also be experienced by healthy individuals, who are the subjects for studying the nature and causes of hallucinations, as they do not interact with other symptoms like in patients with schizophrenia. Researchers use functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans to track the brain activities during hallucinations. The aim of this research paper is to describe several types of hallucinations, ways of studying hallucinations, and possible treatments. DISCUSSION 1. Emotional hallucinations Hallucinations do not have to be vivid; one of the most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Leader As A Strategist The Leader as a Strategist Report Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational corporation headquartered in Redmond, Washington, United States that develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports a wide range of products and services predominantly related to computing through its various product divisions. Established on April 4, 1975 to develop and sell BASIC interpreters for the Altair 8800, Microsoft rose to dominate the home computer operating system market with MS DOS in the mid 1980s, followed by the Microsoft Windows line of operating systems. Microsoft is one of the largest software corporations in the world that has diversified in recent years into the video game industry with the Xbox and its successor, the Xbox 360 as well as into the consumer electronics and digital services market with Zune, MSN and the Windows Phone OS. (Microsoft, 2015) Primarily in the 1990s, critics contend Microsoft used monopolistic business practices and anti competitive strategies including refusal to deal and tying, put unreasonable restrictions in the use of its software, and used misrepresentative marketing tactics; both the U.S. Department of Justice and European Commission found the company in violation of antitrust laws. Known for its interviewing process with obscure questions, various studies and ratings were generally favorable to Microsoft s diversity within the company as well as its overall environmental impact with the exception of the electronics portion of the ... • 5. Carrie Underwood Character When I think of a role model in my life who demonstrates good character traits in his or her actions and behaviors, I immediately think of country singer songwriter, Carrie Underwood. Carrie exhibits trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, compassion, citizenship, and many other admirable character traits. Carrie Underwood is the type of woman all parents want their children to grow up and be like, (Hannaford). Carrie Underwood stands out in the sense that she doesn t rely so much on her outward appearance, but rather on the way she carries herself in the public eye. When you look at the media nowadays, it seems as if all female celebrities have resorted to acting crazy, dressing provocatively, and behaving crudely; however, this is not the case with Carrie. Carrie does not conform to these ways in order to gain herself some attention in the media. Carrie, unlike most celebrities today, actually understands that any publicity isn t necessarily always good publicity. I can think of many more reasons as ... Carrie is also extremely good at prioritizing her life. Carrie and her husband, Mike Fisher, are a strong and steady support system for one another. They share a truly inspirational relationship. They just welcomed a beautiful, little boy to their family in March, and Carrie is beaming with pride over her little bundle of joy! • 6. Poem Analysis On His Coy Mistress By Andrew Marvell Andrew Marvell wrote a unique love poem in To His Coy Mistress, as this poem expresses far more than one might expect or even perceive upon the first reading. Enveloped in this ode to a cherished muse are expressions of the carpe diem philosophy, laments about the impending doom of death, and hopes to transcend contemporary abilities to live forever in the love of another. While Marvell s primary purpose in writing this piece may have been to woo a young maiden, he made a far more significant contribution to the era s literary culture in the process. Marvell most directly addressed To His Coy Mistress to a woman he intended to court, as he spends a majority of the piece lamenting that he didn t have time sufficient to praise her features. In the opening stanza, Marvell states that, Had we but world enough, and time.... An hundred years should go yo praise.... An age at least to every part, / And the last age should show your heart (Marvell 1 18). While Marvell ones not directly praise or describe his muse in any way, he does emphasize how extraordinarily praiseworthy she be, and this idea forms the basis for the philosophical wonderings and realizations that comprised the following stanzas. Thus, Marvell addressed his poem at a potential lover for the purpose of courting her on an unknown occasion, but the real significance of the poem lies in the later ideas he presented to fulfill this purpose. In his second stanza, Marvell takes a drastic turn from the romantic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Blue Green Anesthesia Mask Essay As I m wheeled through the silver doors into the sterile white operating room, I begin to panic. This is my first surgery, and I feel as if I am in a living nightmare. Before I can even think about it, the nurses guide me onto the skinny white operating room bed. A few seconds later, the blue green anesthesia mask is put on my face, and I feel like I am going underwater with my eyes closed. Then everything around me goes completely black. I was diagnosed with a rare, non agressive type of skin cancer on my scalp in 2011. Soon after diagnosis, I underwent an MRI to see exactly how big the cancer was. Fortunately, it was only the size of a pencil eraser. After seeing countless doctors, we (my parents and I) finally decided to see a surgeon specializing in cancer at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in downtown Chicago. We met with the cancer surgeon (Dr. Wayne), and he agreed to remove the cancer. We also saw a plastic surgeon (Dr. Kim) the same day to discuss reconstruction options so that my scalp would look as normal as possible after the surgery. My surgery is scheduled for the morning of February 8, 2012 at 7 AM; however, we need to arrive at the hospital at 5:30 to start the preparation process. As we walk through the Outpatient Surgery unit doors, I immediately notice the amount of chaos surrounding the unit. You wouldn t know that it was only 5:30 AM with all the noise! The Aztecs And The Incas Through Spanish Eyes Essay During the fifteenth century, two major state based agrarian civilization, Aztec and Inca empires, played a huge role by making up the population of the Americas. This history includes literary tradition, records about the civilizations culture, and observations of the Spanish who conquered them in the early sixteenth century. Document 12.1 concentrates on giving evidence through the eyes of two Spanish observers, both of whom at least tried to connect with the civilizations and record first hand records. • 12. Ted Demme s Blow Ted Demme s Blow is a highly informative movie about America s war on drugs. Although dramatized at times, the film depicts the war on drugs rather accurately and captures the true essence of why America is fighting a war on drugs. Rather than generalizing the drug war to its audience, the film individualizes it to help facilitate the understanding of topics such as drug smuggling, mandatory minimum sentencing, and sting operations. The formation of an almost personal connection with George Jung is crucial in the beginning of the film. Including Jung s background information is necessary to show how he truly had the mindset to start selling drugs in the first place. The audience becomes understanding of Jung from that moment and stay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the end of the movie, George Jung decided that after legally making his own money he wanted to have one last drug job for some extra cash, little did he know that his old gang was setting him up to be caught by the federal government. Although the movie does not show the work done by the federal government to find out this information, it showed how easy it is for the government to still access anything they want. In the world of drug cartels, wiretapping is extremely important since law enforcement can directly listen into conversations and use it as evidence against the drug offenders. In some cases, previous drug cartel members are turned into informants so the government can set up a sting operation, which is what happened to George Jung. Since the drug deal already went through and he was in possession of the cocaine, there was nothing Jung could do to escape law enforcement. Operations like this can be very risky nowadays since drug cartels are rather violent, but for the time Jung was in the drug business it was perfect. Jung s crime itself also showed how strict sentencing had become for drug offenders over the years. For simply conspiring to smuggle drugs, Jung received a 60 year prison sentence. Although his sentence was extremely reduced for testifying against his old partner, the 60 year sentence is still very extreme for simply smuggling drugs into the United States. This shows the harshness of the drug laws in the United States and how the country is trying to do everything in their power to win the war on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Analysis of the Little Mermaid Essay The Little Mermaid Analysis The Little Mermaid is an example of how woman were seen in society. In the fairy tale, women are characterized by appearance rather than personality by both men and women. The little mermaid mentions But if you take my voice, what shall I have left? (Anderson 226). In this quote, the little mermaid believes that she cannot just be herself to win the prince s heart. The prince also looks at women the same way because of how he talks to the little mermaid. He asks her, You ve no fear of the sea, have you, my dumb child? (Anderson 229). He treats her as if she is still a small child just because she cannot speak. When the little mermaid went to the sea witch to be changed into a human, she told her, How stupid of you! Still, you shall have your way, and it ll bring you into misfortune, my lovely Princess (Anderson 226). The sea witch had already warned the little mermaid even before she made the potion that it would not go as she planned. The little mermaid, being young and foolish about love, did what she believed was right. The tone here spoken by the sea witch gives caution towards the mermaid. Anderson uses the witch as a way to portray to the reader how it is easy to make mistakes in the matter of love. This example is given when the witch informs her that, ... and if you don t win the Prince s love, so that he forgets father and mother for you and always has you in his thoughts and lets the priest join your hands together to be man and wife, they you won t get an immortal soul (Anderson 226). The author uses a reproving tone to demonstrate to the reader how the little mermaid is foolish, carried away in her childish dreams. Anderson characterizes the sea witch in such a way that her dialogues warn women to be careful when it comes to sacrificing themselves for anyone. The imagery used to describe how lovely the mermaid is portrays what the prince wanted as a wife. • 14. Parent-Related Study Of Marijuana Essay There has been an extensive amount of research done on risk factors and marijuana use. Among adolescents the vast majority of the research has identified five major risk factors associated with adolescent marijuana use, family relations (parent child attachment), peer associations, substance abuse programs, gender, and race. Some researchers have found that the family is the best predictor of adolescent marijuana use, while others claim that peer associations are predictors of adolescent marijuana use. Others believe that substance abuse programs are the key to deterring adolescent drug use. The final groups of researchers believe gender and race are the underlining predictors. The following studies will give a quick overview of the prior research on risk factors and adolescent marijuana use. Parent Child Attachment According to Hoffmann (1993) adolescents who suffer from a parental death or divorce are likely to turn to marijuana to help cope with the stress that has been created. A death or divorce is extremely detrimental to adolescents because it hinders them from creating or continuing a bond with their family. • 15. Popular Musical Development And Societal Development The Start of Tropicalismo Popular musical development and societal development are usually parallel with one another. Artists and musicians can change a society and have an enormous impact on how a country runs itself. A good example of how a country can be influenced by new, innovative music would be the Tropicalismo movement. Caetano Veloso is a Brazilian musician that started the Tropicalia movement and created music that combined many elements of different music together, and Veloso did this with other tropicalists. The background of Caetano Veloso, the two songs Caetano Veloso produced, information about Tropicalia, and the background of Brazil can help us comprehend how music has a great impact and influence on society. Tropicalia is more than just a music genre produced in the late 1960s, but a social political movement that radically changed the way Brazilians saw contemporary Brazilian music. Caetano Veloso s start as a Brazilian musician was back in 1942 when Veloso finished school in Santa Amaro, and he moved to Salvador where he learned how to play the guitar and sing. (Veloso, Caetano) Veloso would spend his time at bars with his sister and perform music for people s entertainment. Veloso met Gal Costa, Gilberto Gil, and Tom Zé in 1963 where they started musical shows as a group. (Veloso, Caetano) One of the musical shows that they started was Vila Velha theatre with Veloso directing the theatre. In 1965, Veloso left Federal University of Bahia to go to Rio de ... Inspired by my father s war stories especially those that detailed the extent that many American soldiers would go to defend their country, and also by the early Cold War politicking, I enrolled in the US Naval Academy and passed out in 1955. At the time, the Cold War was at its height and as was more than likely at the time, I fought in the Vietnam War in the 1960s. Because of this difference, there was a little tension between the Christians and Jews, but they did co exist. However, Jews did sometimes get expelled from certain regions. Furthermore, Jews would not be treated as people who practiced a different religion but as people of a separate biological race. Now as countries and borders became more and more apparent, nationalism came on the rise. In order to be nationalistic and band together with others of the same nationality, one must have something or someone to band together against, and unfortunately but predictably, Jews were the target of this newfound nationalism. This resentment of the Jews in Europe had been instilled in their mindset going into the interwar period ( Racism, Anti ‐Semitism, Colonialism ). For me this place is the court: the basketball court. When I open the doors of the gym I am met with the familiar sound of squeaking shoes and balls bouncing on the hardwood floors. I go to sit on the aged wooden bleachers and watch the game that is currently taking place. The weight my worries are being lifted a little as I get wrapped up in the game. The guard is bringing the ball up the court his eyes scanning for an opening to either pass or shoot the ball. The opposing team has every man covered leaving little to no room for the guard and his teammates to set up the play. As soon as the guard sets foot pass half court two defenders go to trap him. Wrong move. The guard quickly, almost effortlessly sidesteps one of the defenders and dribbles the ball through the leg of the other and proceeds to pass the ball to one of his teammates who take the ball straight to the rim. • 37. Example Of Romantic Comedy Danielle Herrin Section 7 Romantic Comedy Romantic Comedy has been around for many generations enticing the public with ideas of love and romance in a humorous way. According to Dictionary.com Romantic Comedy is defined as, a movie or play that deals with love in a light, humorous way. For all romantic comedies to make this happen, they follow three simple rules. Boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back. As Brian Finnigan from The Five Golden Rules of Romantic Comedy says, Different but the same, He wants She Wants, turmoil, and learning curves . Although these technical terms are different, they mean the same thing. Today that may look a little different but this is a staple part of romantic comedy that makes it different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was not much luck. Animal comedy came during the late 70s and 80s. Due to the lack of character growth between the beginning and the end of the movie, these films are great for sequels. Characteristically, animal comedy is about pigs who want to have meaningless sex with women, and due to the lack of character change, at the end of the movie, the characters still want to have meaningless sex with women. The most used Romantic comedy style today is Modern American Romantic Comedy. The woman is portrayed to be equal to the man. A great example that really changed the way romantic comedy was viewed was When Harry Met Sally. Women gave their point of view on relationships and could express equality with men. As James Murphy from moviereal.com states, Can men and women ever be just friends? Is it possible to move on from the one you love? Is love at first sight ever true love? Is there just one person for everyone? Can I be a big corporate superman AND a decent human being? Etc. These are some questions from romantic comedies that prove the point that women were viewed differently in this film and that caused movies the future movies to change the way the portray women and men together. Finally, Geek Comedy began in 1998. Like animal comedy the characters start out wanting to have meaningless sex with the opposite sex. • 39. Trench Conditions In Ww1 Essay Early on in World War 1, protection for troops became a vital aspect of war as a result of the increased power, accuracy and precision of newly developed weapons. Armies began to dig large corridors in the ground that became known as trenches. Originally thought to only be a temporary defensive tactic soon became a primary part of warfare. However, the conditions in the trenches became harsh and unsanitary due to battle raging around them and the lack of previsions. As a result, illness and disease spread rapidly and the reality of war as well as the traumatic experiences soldiers faced impacted troops in the short and long term. As trenches became a more frequent tactic, the simple design was improved and adjusted to suit the troops, area and task that it would be used for. They became a very important part of tactical warfare and some layouts could be very complex. Trenches were first used on the Western Front by both opposing sides. Due to severe exhaustion, dwindling resources and the horrific death toll, both sides dug into the ground and assumed a defensive post. Most trenches were dug deep enough that men couldn t be seen from above. Troops were then ordered to seek momentary cover in the trenches (FIGURE 1) however eventually it became their permanent front line. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Determining the Empirical Formula of Magnesium Oxide INTRODUCTION: The empirical formula is the simplest and lowest whole number ratio of the different atoms in a sample of compound. To work out the empirical formula, the value of moles of the different atoms in a compound is needed. Mole is just simply a unit used to measure the amount of atoms, just like how the unit dozen is used to measure things such as eggs. One mole is 6Ã 10^23 atoms and this number is called the Avogadro number. The mole can be also defined as the number of atoms in exactly 12g of Carbon. Lorenzo And Santa Maria Novella Comparison A comparison between the structure of San Lorenzo and Santa Maria Novella discloses the same style of High Classical age of fifth century Greece that Alberti and Brunelleschi both aimed to achieve. In Santa Maria Novella, Alberti introduced Classical features around the portico with Classical proportions. Moreover, elements such as pilasters, cornices and a pediment in the Classical style were used instead of sculptures. In regards to the façade designed by Alberti, the incorporation of two large scrolls to bridge the different levels of the central nave to the lower side aisles was another feature of Church facades in late Renaissance, Baroque and Classical Revival architecture. Both plans are spatially longitudinal with a singular emphasized large nave to convey austerity. Moreover, the exposure of the full length floor when one enters San Lorenzo produces a visual highlight of centralization in the area of the transept, of which the central dome meets the corners of a square. This combination of curve and square is Brunelleschi s rational perception of geometric relationships an important contrast to Gothic architecture, where cathedrals were intended to awe and mystify the viewer with the flamboyant beauty of the sacred. Another disadvantage is that EMTALA only requires hospitals to treat true emergencies , which are subjective in nature. The last revisions in 2003 for EMTALA by policymakers and CMS limited EMTALA to only patients that arrived to the emergency department, not to other areas of the hospital, such as a doctor s office appointment or outpatient surgery (Sara Rosenbaum, 2012).
