Premature Babies And Their Chances Of Survival
Premature babies have existed since the beginning of time. The only difference between now and the
past is that babies currently have more chances of survival. This paper will discuss a few components:
the history of premature babies, impact of knowledge and technology and the nurses that take care of
premature babies. We have the advancement in technology to thank for that. Today there are still some
cases where the baby might be born and still be too underdeveloped and die even with technology. For
example, I have a friend that had a baby a few months ago at nineteen weeks gestation and neither one
of the baby s lungs were developed so she died. They told her that since she was so early that there
was no way to save the baby even if they attempted to. The reason this subject means so much to me
is because I also had a premature baby. My son came at twenty seven weeks gestation and stayed in
the hospital for eleven weeks. Although he came early he survived and I am forever grateful for that.
Technology and Vanderbilt played a big part in that. Premature care was very rare but is now standard.
History of the NICU World
It is known that you might not be able to control or prevent preterm birth therefore improving the
infant s health and quality of life is the goal. The knowledge and technology was not available to keep
the babies alive. Once a child is born premature they are placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
In the early 20th century premature birth was the

Mandatory Abortion In The United States
Reportedly, there have been 24,446,288 abortions worldwide this year and 1,346,127,480 since 1980,
with no sign of ceasing. Each year the abortion industry brings in over $1.1 billion in America alone.
Abortions seem to be just another way to dispose of unwanted merchandise or fix an unwanted
problem. Is that all our children are unwanted merchandise; problems to be fixed? Wikipedia defines
abortion as the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo from the womb before it can
survive on its own. I want to pose this question: what is just about stripping another human being of
his/her right to live?
As it stands today, American women have the legal right to obtain an abortion in all 50 states, through
all nine months of pregnancy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I wholeheartedly believe that it should be criminalized and am in total agreeance with the Philippines
stance on the issue. I believe that once a child is conceived, they have just as much right to live and
prosper as any other corporeal human being. Medical and health issues with the mother should be the
only reason we consider such heinous measures. There are so many other avenues one could take that
do not involve killing the unborn child (e.g. adoption, interim foster care, and parenting). It saddens
me that children s lives are so disposable. There are not trash to be thrown away. In my view, when
babies are aborted we not only lose a member of society, we also lose a future doctor, a future lawyer,
a future philanthropist a future president that could have made a

Leading on from the National Biotechnology Policy in Malaysia
vi. Malaysia
Leading on from the National Biotechnology Policy and its nine thrusts, Malaysia s Bioeconomy
Transformation Programme (BTP) intensifies the nation s transformation to a global high income
country.
The National Biotechnology Policy was launched in 2005; its nine thrusts include
1. Agricultural: Enhance the value creation of the agricultural sector,
2. Healthcare: Commercializing the discoveries of the agricultural sector,
3. Industrial: Increase opportunities for bioprocessing and bio manufacturing,
4. Research and Development: Establish Centres of Biotechnology Excellence, through research and
development,
5. Human Capital Development: Build the nation s human capital through education, training and

These 10 EPPS include The 10 EPPs include industrial bio inputs, biochemicals, biomaterials, bio
based farm inputs, high value bio ingredients, high value food varieties, biosimilars, drug discovery
and pre clinical services, molecular screening and diagnostics (MSD), as well as stem cells and
regenerative medicine. Within these 10 EPPs, 20 private sector driven Trigger Projects constitute the
initial tranche of ventures launched.
In addition to these significant economic impacts, the BTP is also geared to benefit society and the
nation by improving individual incomes especially those of rural communities, through projects and
programmes with high inclusiveness factors. This can be achieved through the implementation of
Trigger Projects involving contract farming mechanisms. From this statement we can see that the
multiplier and ripple effects of the bioeconomy can be seen.
The BTP also advocates the promotion of a green economy, which in turn contributes to a long term
sustainable economy and environment. BioIndustrial Trigger Projects such as energy crop plantations,
the production of renewable biomaterials and bio based chemicals, and production of compressed
biomethane gas are expected to contribute to Malaysia s 2020 target of reducing its carbon footprint
and emissions by 40%.
The BTP also aims to improve the nation s health and well being. Biosimilars (as opposed to innovator
biologic drugs) will drive down treatment costs by

Analysis Of Titus Andronicus During The Spanish War Of...
Titus Andronicus during the Spanish War of Succession In 2000, Julie Taymor restaged Shakespeare s
Titus Andronicus, mixing it with World War II era culture. By taking one of Shakespeare s goriest
tragedies and combining it with one of the most devastating moments in history, Taymor provides a
new perspective on the play, in particular the universality of its conflicts. These conflicts are not only
elevant at the end of the sixteenth century when Shakespeare wrote Titus Andronicus, but they are also
suitable for the 1940s during World War II. By making a statement on how tenuous relationships
between people and countries can be at different points in time, Taymor demonstrated the
pervasiveness of the conflicts presented in this play. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, France, Bavaria, and Austria offered their heirs as the future Spanish monarch, similar to
how Saturninus, Bassianus, and Titus are all up for the Roman Empire in the play. Being the sons of
the previous emperor, Saturninus and Bassianus cite their relations to him as the reason they should
rule, and comparatively the heirs of France and Austria were also distantly related to King Charles II.
As Saturninus states, plead my successive title with your swords. / I am his first born son (1.1 5 6).
Generally in Rome, succession was hereditary; however, if the candidate was considered unsuitable,
the succession decision was left to the public. Being the eldest son of the late emperor should be
Saturninus s claim to rule, but he nonetheless is met with resistance from the people. Likewise, Philip
of Anjou, grandson of the French monarch and heir to the French monarchy, was named successor to
the Spanish throne by King Charles II, but other countries feared that this would lead to the unification
of Spain and France as one country. Accordingly, Philip too was then met with resistance despite his
right to the throne. Then there is Bassianus, who points out his ancestry as well by saying if ever
Bassianus, Caesar s son / Were gracious in the eyes of Royal Rome and calls for the public to place
him on the throne in the name of virtue and honor (1.1 10 11). While he too has a

TOK Knowledge Essay
The claim Knowledge is nothing more than the systematic organization of facts, has many flaws in its
implications. All of the knowledge that we gain as ToK knowers cannot be considered infallible fact.
The term fact implies that the statement or claim can be reinforced with substantial evidence and can
be proven, and we have learned that almost any information can be considered knowledge, no matter
how subjective or specific the information is. Given that an individual is defined by having a specific
and unique way of thinking and perceiving the world, most of the knowledge gained in several
different Areas of Knowledge are heavily dependent on the perspectives of the individuals under
examination. Both the Areas of Knowledge of Ethics and Human Sciences have many ambiguities
when it comes to organizing and legitimizing this data. This leads the knower to ask, What makes
information factual in terms of ToK knowledge? It can be proven through Ethics and Human Sciences
that knowledge is not the systematic organization of facts, but the systematic organization of
collective data to show trends and patterns. Ethical boundaries and impressions are subjective to every
individual, and the public ethical boundary must be based off of the accumulative average of the
environment. There is not a factual This is right vs. This is wrong because no single human being has
the authority to make such a statement. In fact, it is this basic ethical disagreement that has led to

Neoconservative And Discrimination Against Gays And...
People may not notice little things that others do or say. Something as small as calling someone gay
because they identify themselves as homosexual, could emotionally traumatize them. Examples of
these issues are LGBTQ+ working in a labour intensive employment, and is treated as weak or unfit
for the position, thus being looked down upon. For centuries, people follow the stereotype that people
of a different gender or sexual identity are looked down upon and considered outliers of the society.
Our group will go in depth and demonstrate examples of discrimination against LGBTQ+ in the
workforce, by first analyzing the root of this problem. A few questions that we will evaluating are: if
people dislike LGBTQ+ in the workforce because they are homosexuals, or because they are lacking
in skill, education, experience etc. Second question that ties with the root of the issue is to find out
why majority of people discriminate individuals that identify as LGBTQ+ homosexuals. Lastly, our
group will be explaining different point of views of this issue. We will be using a variety of
frameworks that we have learned in class such as viewing the social problem with a Neoliberal,
Neoconservative and transformative outlook to analyze the social problem. Topics that we can analyze
using these frameworks, include who is at fault or who is to blame within the social problem, how
each framework would try to resolve the social problem, and what are some things that each
framework can do

Competency Based Education Has Changed Throughout The Last...
Competency based Education
Jasmine Noble
Indiana University
Abstract
Competency based education is a widely used method of education that focuses on guiding students to
and by predetermined outcomes. This paper will focus how competency based education has changed
throughout the last decade, as well as how it can be implemented to day. I will follow the research
done by Anne Mette Morcke, Tim Dornan, and Berit Eika on how outcome based education effects
student education. To show evidence of the usefulness of competency based education I will tie in
behaviorist theory as well as self worth, and ability.

In this paper I will summarize the thoughts of Morcke et al, explain my point of view, and provide
evidence on how this method can be useful in a high school setting.
Outcome (competency) based education article summary
Morcke, Dornan and Eika, composed an article about the origins, theoretical basics and empirical
evidence of competency based education. Morcke states that outcome or competency based education
is guided education based upon predetermined outcomes. Competency based education has been
around and used sporadically for the last decade. Competency based education arose from the
educational changes that were a result of the space race in the 1960 s. This basis of this type of
education first arose from behaviorist theories. Following the lead of the likes of B.F. Skinner and
Bloom competency theory followed the idea that teaching should or could be based solely on
observable behavior. This idea was both criticized and agreed with by many. A large critic of
competency based education was Stenhouse; who argued that predetermined goals would not be effect
in teaching. He believed that using this method of education one was not easily able to specify goals
or asses the progress of students. Stenhouse also argues that the correct or best way to educate is to
draw the knowledge from the students, not train students. Competency based education was reformed
in the 1980 s by Spady and Harden who named it the performance based

Harker s Description Of Dracula
Bridging East and West:
When we first meet Dracula, he motions Harker into his castle, speaking excellent English, but with a
strange intonation (Stoker 22). Dracula desires to become a part of English culture and society so
thoroughly that he will be able to blend into society, a feat that Harker helps him accomplish. Dracula
desires this because he wants to live in and infect Britain. This terrifying image strikes at the heart of
an anxiety of Victorian Britain. Up until the late middle of the nineteenth century, Britain had ruled the
waves and was the only dominant global power. As the nineteenth century came to a close, fears of the
British Empire s weaknesses were beginning to emerge, as German and Russian forces were growing
in strength. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jonathan remarks as he notes his despair over being locked in the Castle with the three women, I am
alone in the castle with these awful women. Faugh! Mina is a woman and there is nought in common.
They are devils of the pit (Stoker 61). Mina is also contrasted against Lucy. Lucy is more sexually
awakened then Mina. This is seen in Lucy s several proposals and her wonderings: Why can t they let
a girl marry three men, or as many as want her, and save all this trouble? But this is heresy, and I must
to say it (Stoker 67). Lucy desires more sexually then Mina does, and later on, she pays dearly for it.
Mina is regarded highly by all of the men, and as mentioned before, is portrayed in an asexual

Kristallnacht During The Holocaust
During World War II, a cruel event called the Holocaust was in effect. The Holocaust was a genocide
of all people deemed inferior by Hitler and the Nazis, mainly the Jews. During the Holocaust, many
different acts of terror took place. This included the pogrom of The Night of Broken Glass, or
Kristallnacht, which actually means Night of Crystal. Kristallnacht was a violent protest that caused
great damage and distress among the Jewish community in the late 1930s. Kristallnacht was a violent
protest that caused great damage to Jewish owned buildings and businesses. It was on November 9,
1938 that it began and though the Nazis despised Jews, they claimed that there was more to the
pogrom and why it happened. The pretext for the pogroms was the shooting in Paris on November 7
of the German diplomat Ernst vom Rath by a Polish Jewish student, Herschel Grynszpan. (Berenbaum
1) This means that the main excuse for Kristallnacht was the shooting of a German Official by a Jew.
This shooting had angered the Nazis and led to the pogrom. In its aftermath, German officials
announced that Kristallnacht had erupted as a spontaneous outburst of public sentiment in response to
the assassination of Ernst vom Rath. ( Kristallnacht. 1) After the event, German officials told the
public that Kristallnacht happened suddenly due to the assassination of one of their own, and they
were not entirely responsible for it. The Germans were actually blaming the Jews for the destruction

Almost Conflict In Regard To Richard Dawkins
In a way, I feel almost conflicted in regard to the Richard Dawkins quote. On one hand, I agree very
much with what Dawkins said. When we think about it, it is truly amazing how many possible
potential people there are that could be created, yet haven t been yet, or many never be. There is so
much unknown, that, sadly enough, we may never know of. Surely there is a scientist out there that
holds all the answers to life after death, and a playwright with more timely works than Shakespeare.
But still, they all remain a mystery. And, who knows, they may remain that way for a long, long time;
probably longer than you and I combined. And it makes me think: what are we missing out so greatly
on? How simple and basic are our lives now, compared

My Family Relationships
Relational Influences My family of origin includes my mother, my maternal grandmother, my
maternal grandfather, and my uncle. I do not consider my father or half sisters as part of my family of
origin due to their absence in my life. My family of origin includes patterns observed within the
genogram and apparent during my life which has not been overlooked. My family of origin dynamic
was filled with support and love and was built based on the resilience of my grandparents who
suffered trauma in their lives and on my mother who was determined to do all that she could despite
my father s absence. My parents were young adults when my mother realized that she was pregnant
with me. They never married and shortly after my arrival decided to separate due to their inability to
trust and communicate properly with one another. My parents were polar opposites and were not able
to accommodate each other which created conflict and avoidance. As I grew older, I noticed the
discomfort between my parents even through their attempt to co parent and eventually I become closer
and aligned with mother. In analyzing my family dynamics from a Bowenian perspective, I was in the
midst of a triangle between my parents. Additionally, the relationship between my father and I can be
identified as an area of conflict, as well an emotional cutoff. My father was demeaning and harshly
critical of others which created great anxiety whenever I interaction with him. The triangle between

An Excerpt From The NovelPrayer To Aphrodite
An excerpt from the novel: Prayer to Aphrodite . Balmy evenings were spent strolling along the
seashore, occasionally finding some secluded cove where they could make love undisturbed, or
sometimes the couple would just gaze up at the clear night sky as they lay down together on the sands.
On one occasion two days before the end of their holiday Amy tried to count the stars. You ll never do
it, said Clare, there are more stars in heaven than all the grains of sand on all the world s beaches.

It began to rain rather suddenly and Amy, wondering where Clare had disappeared, was about to go
and look for her, when she appeared at that moment, soaked to the skin. What on earth were you doing
all that time? she said curiously. Were you praying for the rain to stop? It says here that this temple is
supposed to be dedicated to Apollo the Sun God she laughed, waving her guide book in the air. Oh,
no, it wasn t that particular deity I was praying to, Clare said with a secretive smile. On another lazy
afternoon by the pool, Clare, lounging beneath a sunshade, composed a short poem in blank verse. She
felt that writing rhyming verse was sometimes too arduous a task. The poem was, as were all her
poems, written for Rachel. She scribbled it down on the back of a postcard; deliberating afterwards
whether to actually send it, even sticking a stamp on it and writing Rachel s address underneath:
Forsaken You have forsaken me; I, who have loved you. But you will never admit to it. You just say I
m busy when I call, In the forlorn hope that one day, You can find it in your heart to forgive. Was my
love a crime for which I shall be eternally punished? Should I say something, lie to you perhaps?
Deny my love, tell you it was all a dreadful mistake, And can I have our friendship back? Grovel at
your feet and say I m not a lesbian. The long leisurely days on the sun kissed isle passed rapidly and

The narrator starts off the story focusing on her blind mother, who was a circus performer, and then
begins to realize how her mother had always taken risks in her life. The narrator recalls stories of her
mother taking leaps and risks. For example, one day when her mother was working as part of a trapeze
act in a circus show, a freak lightning bolt struck the tent pole during a performance. Unfortunately,
her mother s hands did not meet her husband s, so she took off her blindfold and, instead of latching

Students With Intellectual Disorders Essay
Students with Intellectual Disorders I think Isaac is autistic. The moment my best friend uttered those
words I dismissed them. Our sons were only one week apart, and she had always been obsessed with
comparing them, almost to the point of pitting them toward competition. Who had their first tooth,
said their first word, took their first step. Scores were kept in an official tally in her mind, with my
son, Marshall, always two steps ahead much to her chagrin. I had always been fascinated by child
development, and specifically the infant through toddler ages, so having my first baby meant I finally
got to test out all of the things I had learned and researched. Tummy time was a frequent occurrence,
with other body stretches and exercises to build muscle, if I wasn t talking to him I was reading to
him. There was no TV, no tablets, no cell phones. I attributed the majority of his advancements to my
carefully researched parenting tactics, and her son s shortcomings to her more lax parenting. There
was no way her son could be autistic, she simply needed to read to him more, even after he was
diagnosed I still felt she should get another opinion. Then it happened. They had recently moved out
of state and her sister had flown Isaac back in town for a visit. I arranged for him to stay the night for
Marshall s birthday as a surprise. They were best friends after all. They d simply play upstairs while I
arranged Marshall s party, it would actually be easier with him here I

Introduction
In this experiment, we observed the pollination of various plants by various pollinators in the
Binghamton University Nature Preserve. We collected data by observing various plants by the pond
trail area of the nature preserve and attempted to explain why some plants were structurally more
attractive to pollinators than other plants. While observing a variety of plants, it became clear that the
Goldenrod Plant and the Aster plant were the most attractive. This conclusion was drawn because they
attracted the most pollinators. In fact, data collected of the other ... Show more content on

The Chicory was pollinated by a total of 18 pollinators (8 Wasps, 2 Bumble Bees, 8 Honeybees). The
Knapweed was pollinated by a total of 8 pollinators (6 Bumble Bees, 2 Butterflies).
As discussed before, in order to study the structural attractiveness of a plant it needed to be considered
significant or have at least 30 points of pollinator data. The above bar graph displays the only two
observed plants that had 30 points of pollinator data over the course of the three days. The Goldenrod
plant had 35 points of data and the Aster plant had 42 points of data, making them both significant
enough to study further. Previous work by Koch classified both these plants as Composite Flowers
(1930). Given their similar internal structures, we would focus on a difference in flower length, an
external structure, to explain the differences in pollinator visitations. Previous work by Gross Werner
has shown the average flower length of Goldenrod plants to be ¾ of an inch (1983). Previous work by
Harder has shown the average flower length of Aster plants to be 2 inches (1985).

The Political Time Period Of The American Civil War
In March, by Geraldine Brooks, we learn about the political time period of the American Civil War.
The main character, Mr. March is an avid abolitionist on the Union side working as a chaplain. An
idealistic Mr. March goes against his moral code of pacifism, and takes action by joining the American
Civil War. If March is not as idealistic as he is, he never would have fought in the war.
Throughout the novel, one recurring theme in Mr. March s life are his decisions whether to take action
against injustices or not. Mr. March lives his life by the moral codes of his religious beliefs of
pacifism, and anti slavery. When Mr. March is contemplating the idea of going to war, he considers
one hand, if he goes he will be going against his religion of pacifism. On the other hand, if he goes, he
would be impressing Marmee, fighting for abolitionism, and he believes others will respect him for
being a solider. He decides to take action and put his abolitionist values, pride and Marmee s
admiration above those of pacifism. If he does not take action, he would feel he had been a part of the
continuation of slavery, and in his mind, commit a sin against slaves. Another time when Mr. March
has to decide between action and inaction is when the rebel irregulars attack the plantation and take
many people captive. Mr. March hides in a hole in the cotton seed pile, and when the rebel irregulars
call for him to come out or they threaten to kill Ptolemy, he has to decide between

Plato And Aristotle s Life Essay
In much of both Plato and Aristotle s works there seems to be a general trend about the best way to
live one s life and the different facets, actions and experiences one should encounter to reach this
position. For Plato such claims can be clearly examined through his work entitled the Phaedo where
he tunes into the qualification of what characteristics of human beings make up the essential pieces to
one achieving the best life. Uniquely, in the instance of the Phaedo this comes by means of The Myth
of Minotaur where a half man half bull is creature is formed, locked away and eventually slain by
Theseus. However, such story signifies more than just the killing of beast for Socrates in Plato s text
but rather stands as a metaphor for Socrates s death in which he represents the beast combined of body
and soul slain by Athens. For it is the soul that leads to the best life of rational thinking but being
combined with the body creates a beast which is all that is seen by Athens. Aristotle also makes an
interpretation as to the best life one is to live in his text entitled Nicomachean Ethics. Throughout this
work Aristotle makes continuous points as to why happiness should be the ultimate goal to anyones
life. However, this can only be achieved through a life of contemplation and theory. For Aristotle
states that in order for one to follow down the path to happiness one needs to be virtuous through
contemplation and thought. While Plato and Aristotle have different ways in

Essay on Hysteria
In the beginning was Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, who freed the emerging science from the
chains of superstition, introduced empirical observation and the bedside manner, and both identified
and named hysteria (Gilman 1993, 3). Hippocrates, lived in ancient Greece from 460 BCE to 377
BCE, the first [known] person to study hysterical actions believed (as did the proceding Greeks and
Romans) that hysteria was strictly a female problem, and in many cases almost any problem a female
had was considered hysteria (Gilman 1993, 4). This view was believed for an extensive period of time
but as Appignanesi asserts many other things that were once believed to be true are proven false later,

the words of Freud, ...her brother was as a rule the first to start an illness and used to have it very

mother over Dora or her father. This fits well with Freuds oedipal theories. In fact much of Freuds
analysis of Dora uncovered repressed sexual desires.
Around the age of eight Dora began to develop neurotic symptoms. Their family doctor diagnosed the
ailments as strictly mental and not physical. This is the precursor to her hysteria, as hysteria is strictly
a mental syndrome which can affect the physical body but resides in the confines of the mind. At the
age of twelve Dora suffered severe migraine headaches and random attacks of nervous coughing.
These usually went together but as the illness developed the afflictions came separately. By the age of

The Effects Of Soda, Sports Drinks And Energy Drinks On...
In today s society, a high percentage of people consume beverages that contain added sugars and acid,
but what effects does this sugar and acid have on our tooth enamel? Are sports drinks better for you
than soda? This paper will discuss the effects of soda, sports drinks and energy drinks on the enamel
of a person s teeth, what is enamel and why is it important. Dental erosion is a chronic loss of dental
hard tissue that is chemically etched away from the tooth surface by acid. Most people would believe
that the sugar in drinks was the main reason for the damage to their teeth. Although an excessive
amount of sugar is not good for the teeth or body, it is the acid in the drinks that prove to produce the
most damage. I will also discuss solutions and ways to protect and care for the health of teeth. It is
very important to drink plenty of water and practice good oral hygiene daily.
The enamel of teeth is the hardest and most highly mineralized substance in the body. It covers the
outer layer of each tooth, and it is the most visible part of the tooth. Tooth enamel, plays a very
important role in protecting teeth from decay, so it is important to do everything that will prevent
enamel from eroding. It forms a strong barrier that shields the inner layers of the teeth from the effects
of acids and plaque. It also protects the sensitive inner layers of the teeth from foods and beverages
that are very hot or very cold. If enamel is destroyed, the body does not make more to

Menarche Research Paper
Menarche in Mexico The term menarche refers to the first menstruation period of a young girl. There
are numerous factors that may cause a girl to begin her period early. Those factors are: body fat, BMI,
and nutritional status. Earlier menarche is brought on by obesity whereas amenorrhea is common in
women with a low BMI. Other factors that lead to early menstruation include: stressful family
circumstances, increased family conflict, divorce, longer durations of the absence of a father in the
home or the presence of a male who is not the father. Sexual abuse can also influence early menarche.
In Mexico, the majority of girls begin to menstruate at approximately 12 years of age. Over the years
this age has fluctuated from closer to twelve

Martin Luther And John Calvin Views On Sinful People
Martin Luther and John Calvin Views on Sinful People
Justification by faith (Sola Fide), the core value of the Reformation, is the belief that
righteousness from God is a recompense for sinner s accounts through faith alone. The sixteenth
century movement for the reform of abuses in the Roman Catholic Church resulted in the
establishment of the Reformed and Protestant Churches. Reformers like Martin Luther and John
Calvin were two of the most significant figures in the history of The Reformation. They both
proclaimed Justification as the main subject of the gospel of God s grace. They were well
acknowledged for their common doctrines of salvation as the deliverance from sin and its
consequences. They believed that to be brought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To compare Martin Luther s and John Calvin s view on the subject of a sinful person, I
thoroughly looked into their common doctrines and considered how they differ in implementing
the rules that manage their ideology. I was able to conclude that even though Luther and Calvin
shared similar doctrines, their conceptualization and interpretation of those doctrines is very
different. Based on their opinions of sinners, I further realized that not only do they have divergent
interpretations of similar doctrines, but they also have different ambitions and their personalities
are extreme opposites.
Luther often blamed the flesh, which Protestants refer to as our sinful nature (they
believed is the cause of human impurities), for the sins of every human and he gave credit to the
Spirit for every good things that man does. The Reformers and the Protestants believe that there
are two types of spirits: the Holy Spirit, which they proclaim to be the spirit of God, and the human
spirit, which is the part of humans that opens up to the spirit of God. The spirit that is often
refereed to when talking about the flesh is the human spirit (what does the Bible mean by the
flesh by Msgr. Charles Pope). We might argue that Luther is trying not to be judgmental, that he
acknowledged the fact that efforts to live a sin

Response Paper
McCloskey Article (278.205 Kb)
Having completed the unit of philosophy of religion, you are now ready to respond to an article
written by an actual atheist. This article, titled On Being an Atheist, was written by H. J. McCloskey in
1968 for the journal Question. McCloskey is an Australian philosopher who wrote a number of
atheistic works in the 1960s and 70s including the book God and Evil (Nijhoff, 1974). In this article,
McCloskey is both critical of the classical arguments for God s existence and offers the problem of
evil as a reason why one should not believe in God.

The uncaused cause holds to that which is outside the framework of causation. Most philosophers hold
that this first cause cannot be caused for the reason that it is outside causation. Something would need
to set forth in motion the ring of causality. If the premise stands, then such a first cause would have to
exist necessarily, otherwise it would have been caused. This necessity is one of causal relation, as long
as the premise is accepted.
As regards the cosmological argument itself, McCloskey states that all we entitled to infer is the
existence of a cause commensurate with the effect to be explained, the universe, and this does not
entitle us to postulate an all powerful, all perfect, uncaused cause. (p.63) This is indeed true, there is
no reason to necessarily infer a God person, however; the inference is of the nature that suggests
(hence the term infer) a cause of such magnitude that it is practically God like. Moreover, his words
do not disprove the rational of a God. Entitlement not to call this cause God is neither entitlement to
deny calling this cause or considering this cause to be God.

· 3. On the Teleological Argument: o McCloskey claims that to get the proof going, genuine
indisputable examples of design and purpose are needed. Discuss this standard of indisputability

William Edward Burghardt, Du Bois And Dorothy E. Smith Essay
In our society, we constantly are divided between a dominant group and an inferior group, whether it
is by class, race, gender, sexuality, and so forth. Many people have been a victim of injustices and
prejudism unless they are a part of what is known as the dominant group. There are a few theoriest
who have used their platform (which they had to work hard for) to discuss important social issues.
Two of the few are William Edward Burghardt (W.E.B) Du bois and Dorothy E. Smith. Although they
faced different challenges and have faced different forms of discrimination, we can see how both of
their theories are very similar (and somewhat different) from one another. Because of them, we are
able to think about the real issues of our society and its effects on an individual.
William Edward Burghardt (W.E.B) Du bois was a sociologist, author, and civil rights leader born
during the late 1860 s. Du bois was the first African American to graduate at his high school and also
was the first African American to receive a PhD from Harvard University. Unfortunately, due to the
fact that racism is embedded in our society, Du Bois did not receive praise, and instead was ignored
for his work while he was alive. However, Du Bois s work today could be seen as the most important
on the subject of race and class (his main concern was with the nature and intersection of race and
class), especially his well known book The Souls of Black Folk (1903) (pg. 257). This book was a

The Principles And Ethical Strategy Of Management
Ethics are important in an organizations structure. This is something that usually starts with the leaders
and trickle down to other employees in the company. The leader of an organization needs to how to
get the right people for the job. Leaders have to pick people that put emphasis on what is right and
people that want to help others. Ethics and morals play a huge part in the success of a company. The
organization must have leaders that can create and execute an ethical strategy for the company.
Setting the tone at the top is the best way to create and execute ethical strategy. Management has the
responsibility of making sure that the company is run effectively and efficiently. The principles and
ethical strategy of management builds a foundation and determines the purpose of the organization.
This should include honesty, truth, morals and integrity. Everyone within the organization should be
aiming for the same goals from an ethical stand point. Management has a very important role in the
ethical development of the company.
Next, the leaders should establish a standard of conduct. The leaders and management have to be
committed to focusing on operating under an ethical standard of conduct. Organizational culture
determines whether the company acts in an ethical matter. According to Gamble and Thomas 2011,
The fallout of ethical misconduct on the part of a company goes well beyond just the costs of making
amends for the misdeeds. Buyers shun companies known

The, Little Yellow Creatures
The most memorable and marketable aspect that came out of the Despicable Me movies were the
Minions, little yellow creatures that only spoke partial English and showcased about as much
intelligence as a garden gnome maybe less. They weren t fun in the first film, when they were
decidedly secondary characters, and they were even more annoying in the second, when they played a
larger role. Now, because the universe hates us, they ve been given a standalone movie, officially
taking center stage for the first time, and bringing with them a whole bunch of marketing
opportunities. Did you know Minions Tic Tacs exist? Well they do.
minions acts as a prequel to the Despicable Me movies, taking place a few decades before the yellow
monstrosities attached themselves to Gru. The film opens off with a brief history of how the Minions
found themselves in the 1960s: through their own stupidity, they killed off every villain they admired.
Now, without purpose, three of the species head to New York, Orlando, and eventually London in
order to find a new Supervillain to follow around. Their target? Scarlet Overkill (voice of Sandra
Bullock; no, really).
That s right. Sandra Bullock went from getting an Oscar nomination in Gravity to voicing a character

Impact Of Entrepreneurship On Business Management
Entrepreneurship is defined as the process of designing, launching and running a business. It typically
begins as a business idea such as starting a small business, offering a product or service. What is
unique about this venture is the possibility and level of risk involved for instance lack of funds, an
unforeseeable economic crisis or poor business decisions. Entrepreneurship is about how people
identify opportunities, evaluate whether they are viable and then decide to exploit them or not. The
decision to exploit an opportunity or not depends on several factors that the entrepreneur is
responsible for including cost versus how much the idea will generate, the market demand, and the
risks involved. An entrepreneur is thus an innovator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jobs are created which leads to creation of wealth and stability of the economy as well as good
conditions of a prosperous society. By coming up with new and innovative ways of doing things,
national assets are activated, for instance infrastructure development. When businesses remain in the
same domain for a long time, they experience the glass ceiling effect and are unable to proceed.
Introduction of new products and technologies therefore enable the development of new markets, and
employment which in turn creates better national income in terms of taxes and government spending
(Bruce, 2005) In addition to the benefits of entrepreneurship to the economy, it also enables people to
be independent. Business people enjoy independence in that they can make their own decisions and
they are I charge of their own work. One can toy around with unconventional means of doing things
which eventually creates creativity and innovativeness. Again the entrepreneurs become part of
motivation and inspiration to others in the society. One can follow their passion, which implies
freedom unlike when one is employed and they have to follow laid down rules. The only downside to
this is that the entrepreneur is responsible for all the risks including making huge losses (Bruce, 2005).
There are many benefits of innovation to a society, but unregulated entrepreneurship may lead to
problems such as pervasive

This eventually forces the local small retailers to go out of business or to move their business where
there is no competition from big box retail stores such as Walmart.
The employees of the small retail stores, who got unemployed because of the closing of the stores,
will be able to find jobs at the newly opened Walmart. But, the data does suggest that the employment
do increase in the first year of the opening of Walmart but it starts declining in the subsequent years.
Also, the retail space that will be left by the outgoing stores will now be available to other business
and industries in which Walmart doesn t compete directly such as automobile dealerships, restaurant
business, etc.
Also, the employees that will be hired by the newly opened Walmart will be working on an average of
28 hours per week. So, they will be working part time job where as previously they were able to work
full time in small retail stores. Also, there is a lot of criticism that Walmart doesn t pay good wages to
its employees and according to some research it comes out to be between $7 8 per hour which is in
range of other competing big box retail stores like K mart, Target, etc.
There is also criticism that entry of Walmart in a particular community increases the poverty rate as
well. Because, of the closing of the small retail businesses, the unemployed workers will be relying on
the government to provide them with the necessary monetary support

Summary
The crime film Memento is about a man named Leonard Shelby (Lennie) who suffers from a
condition called anterograde amnesia. Anterograde amnesia, as Lennie explains in the movie, is the
inability to create new memories. He refers to it as no short term memory because everything he
recently does quickly fades away from his head and he can t remember any of it, he can only
remember things that took place in his life before he had the condition. A major injury to the head was
the cause of Lennie s anterograde amnesia, one night he was at his home sleeping in his bed when all
of a sudden loud screams from another room woke him up. He noticed his wife wasn t next to him in
his bed like she normally was and that s when he realized it was she who was ... Show more content

Lennie immediately grabbed a gun he kept hidden in his room and approached the room where he
heard his wife. He opened the room door and to his surprise he found a man in a ski mask raping his
wife, suffocating her to death. Lennie reacted fast and shot a bullet through the intruders head,
however, he was too late to rescue his wife. As Lennie approached her he received a hard hit from
another intruder on the back of his head causing him to lose consciousness. Throughout the entire film
Lennie is on a search to find the other man responsible for raping and murdering his wife, but he has
trouble doing so because of his injury that makes him constantly loose his memory.
Discussion
Anterograde amnesia was portrayed in the film very accurately. Lennie had a camera so he could take
pictures of important things he did throughout his day, and he would write a note on the back of each
photograph as a reminder of why he took it. He couldn t remember his daily tasks like eating or
cleaning, so he wrote notes and placed them all

American History For People Learning English
From VOA Learning English, welcome to The Making of a Nation, our weekly program of American
history for people learning English. I m Steve Ember.
Today, we tell the story of how a British attack on Fort McHenry in the port of Baltimore led to The
Star Spangled Banner, America s national anthem.
In the summer of 1814, British forces attacked Washington, DC. They burned the Capitol building, the
White House and other public buildings. Then they withdrew to their ships in the Chesapeake Bay.
British General Robert Ross and Admiral George Cockburn led the attack on Washington. Next they
planned to attack Baltimore. But the people of Baltimore expected the attack, and began to prepare for
it. Fifty thousand of them built defenses around the city.
The port of Baltimore was protected by Fort McHenry. The guns and cannon of the fort could prevent
British ships from reaching the city.
The British began with a land attack against Baltimore. General Ross, Admiral Cockburn and about
4,000 British soldiers landed at North Point, a finger of land reaching into the Chesapeake Bay.
From North Point, it was a march of about 22 kilometers to Baltimore. The British began marching at
about seven in the morning. General Ross and Admiral Cockburn stopped their men after an hour. The
two commanders and several of their officers rode to a nearby farmhouse and forced the family living
there to give them breakfast.
When the British officers finished eating, the farmer asked General Ross

Patriarchy In The Canterbury Tales
Chaucer has mastered the techniques required to skilfully put his points across and subtle irony and
satire is particularly effective in making a point, (Sheppard). As written by this college professor,
Chaucer is very effective in using comedy, and satire, to casually attack sacred ideals of his time.
Chaucer carefully uses his characters to battle common ideals, such as his use of the Wife of Bath to
pick on patriarchy. In his Canterbury Tales, Chaucer begins with a general prologue where all
characters are introduced, including a few who don t quite fit the mold of holy . In the Pardoner s Tale,
Chaucer speaks through him and brings the hypocrisy of the church into the light. Chaucer uses his
writing of Canterbury Tales to attack two major idea s of his time, including the idea of men being
superior to women and the purity of the church. In Chaucer s day society was built on patriarchy, but
Chaucer uses Canterbury Tales to voice his radical ideals. A few of these radical ideas come to the
surface in the Wife of Bath s prologue. When the woman stands before the group and speaks about
herself, she reveals a side of Chaucer that is a threat to society. As the Wife speaks she tells the
pilgrims how she believes that women run the world, and how men are the inferior sex. The Wife tells
her audience in her prologue, And when I d mastered him, and out of deadlock secured myself the
sovereignty in wedlock, (p.129 lines 517 518). This line tells her listeners that she mastered her
husband and gained control of the household. The idea of a woman having control of anything in that
time was extremely radical. Bon Jovi once said, Women rule the world. It s not really worth fighting
because they know what they re doing. Ask Napoleon. Ask Adam. Ask Richard Burton or Richie
Sambora. Many a man has crumbled, (Article by Fern). Once a man is willing to admit to what the
Wife is saying, there is little room to argue. Of course the common people were able to swallow this
pill with Chaucer s unlimited satire and humor. Chaucer says plainly, don t be offended at my views;
they re really only offered to amuse , (p. 123, line 85). Later on, in the Wife of Bath s Tale, she
continues to tell a story of a man giving his

drawback by side in whatever example your first stroke takes. The article is to focus on the white line
you are shaping between every stroke. Do whatever it takes not to touch any
past strokes, keep the white lines of unpainted paper unbroken.
Blend a few puddles of various hues on your watercolor palette. I utilized a round #10 red sable for
the vast majority of this activity. A round #4 red sable was utilized to include littler varieties in the
crevices.
A bigger brush that holds more paint will permit you to make longer consistent brush strokes.

The Cut strategy works best in conjunction with other brush strokes unless all you need is
composition for your artistic creation.
Front lines
This activity uses your abilities in drawing and your brush control in painting edges of washes in
different shapes. Use geometric shapes in an assortment of sizes, and hues utilizing the biggest brush
feasible for every size. You need to know how to paint the shapes you see before you. Since we as a
whole know how a circle, square, triangle, rectangle, or star, looks you ll know instantly on the off
chance that you ve succeeded. Painting shapes requires the utilization of a few brush strategies you
can grow basically by rehearsing them.
Begin by stirring up a few pools of essential hues to work with.
From my experience cutting an edge is a sign painter s term for pulling a perfect line of paint with
your brush. A spotless line being a line that is smooth and streaming without any anomalies.
Notice the winding movement controlling the upstroke of the circle shape.
Consider every shape before you begin to paint. What is the base measure of brush strokes expected to

Critical Review On Prison And Prison

August 23, 2014 Abstract
To many convicts in the United States the jail or prison is often times the first resort of punishing.
Legal teams do not research sentencing options; they like to sentence an offender to the easiest place
to do their time which is the jail. The jail has the amenities that an inmate seeks or wants. They can get
a shower, a warm meal, and some clothes free of charge and get released the next day. If they go to
prison, the inmate can get all those perks, and get released years later. These inmates that come to
prison for small crimes, are causing the prison populations to expand person by person. The cells are
not designed more than two people , and the shower can only one body in it at a time and of course the
toilet is only designed for buttock at time.
Jail and Prison should be the last resort, but in modern society it is the first resort
The Introduction
In today s society, there are a variety of sentencing options for the convicted felon. Or the first time
criminal who has no prior convictions, but because of going to a party, he or she does something they
would not have done and lands in the custody of a state penal system. Since there are varieties of
sentencing options available to a potential detainee, then why does the United States have so many
people stacked up top on one another in its penal systems? The

Stereotypes And Media Analysis
Your television and computer are controlling every choice you make. Scary thought? Everyday
Americans log into their computer or turn on their TV and are fed information from our trusted media.
In fact, a Marshall survey states, By 2015, it is estimated that Americans will consume both traditional
and digital media for over 1.7 trillion hours, an average of approximately 5 and a half hours per person
per day. Unknowingly at times, we are allowing our media to shape the choices we make, the ways we
see others, and the way we view ourselves. With most of Americans unaware of the media s control on
their choices and views, this can be an alarming realization. Media has a major impact on multiple
parts of our society.
The media effects politics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As seen in Effects of Disney s Gender Stereotyping it said Disney has created many movies that make
people sacrifice for others. Ariel gave up her voice and many other things just so she could be with
Prince Eric. This shows that even companies that are so innocent like Disney are creating these wrong
stereotypes. In another video called Always #likeagirl it stated when people say like a girl it s almost
always a bad thing. Like you run or throw like a girl it s normally a bad thing. So many people want to
make it a good thing. This illustrates that people want to reverse things. 2nd, 3rd, even 1st graders take
part in these wrong stereotypes. According to a graph in Middle Eastern and Muslim Stereotypes in
Media it said According to Southern illinois university out of 1000 films from 1896 to 2007 that
contains Middle Eastern references 12 were good and over 900 hundred were bad. This demonstrates
that to many people are being way to stereotypical. Out of 1000 films there was only 12 good
references and over 900 bad references! There are such things as good Middle Easterns. Media plays a
role in the shaping of our society s stereotypes and one s views of others, but also contributes to
people s body

Pay Equity Laws On The Basis Of Sex Essay
Those states that have pay equity laws on their books can be divided into four categories that each
mirror in part the language of federal statutes and proposed legislation. As of November 2016, forty
five states have enacted a statutory provision prohibiting wage discrimination on the basis of sex.
Alabama and Mississippi have no equal pay statutory provisions. The District of Columbia, North
Carolina, South Carolina, Utah, and Wisconsin do not have specific prohibitions against wage
discrimination on the basis of sex; rather, statutes in those four states and the District of Columbia
have more general employment discrimination prohibitions. Despite the fact that a majority of states
have enacted some form of pay equity statutory provisions, statutory language differentiates those
states in four significant ways. Some of these differences incorporate parts of the standards set out in
various pieces of the aforementioned federal legislation. The first two categories paint a broad picture
of the context of the pay equity landscape in their respective states. First, some statutes feature
provisions specifically tailored to wage discrimination on the basis of sex, while others include sex
within a list of characteristics that employers in those states are prohibited from using as the basis for
wage discrepancies. Second, some state statutes apply to all employers, while others apply only to
private or only to public employers. The next two categories incorporate

  • 2. Premature Babies And Their Chances Of Survival Premature babies have existed since the beginning of time. The only difference between now and the past is that babies currently have more chances of survival. This paper will discuss a few components: the history of premature babies, impact of knowledge and technology and the nurses that take care of premature babies. We have the advancement in technology to thank for that. Today there are still some cases where the baby might be born and still be too underdeveloped and die even with technology. For example, I have a friend that had a baby a few months ago at nineteen weeks gestation and neither one of the baby s lungs were developed so she died. They told her that since she was so early that there was no way to save the baby even if they attempted to. The reason this subject means so much to me is because I also had a premature baby. My son came at twenty seven weeks gestation and stayed in the hospital for eleven weeks. Although he came early he survived and I am forever grateful for that. Technology and Vanderbilt played a big part in that. Premature care was very rare but is now standard. History of the NICU World It is known that you might not be able to control or prevent preterm birth therefore improving the infant s health and quality of life is the goal. The knowledge and technology was not available to keep the babies alive. Once a child is born premature they are placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Each year the abortion industry brings in over $1.1 billion in America alone. Abortions seem to be just another way to dispose of unwanted merchandise or fix an unwanted problem. Is that all our children are unwanted merchandise; problems to be fixed? Wikipedia defines abortion as the ending of pregnancy by removing a fetus or embryo from the womb before it can survive on its own. As it stands today, American women have the legal right to obtain an abortion in all 50 states, through all nine months of pregnancy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are so many other avenues one could take that do not involve killing the unborn child (e.g. adoption, interim foster care, and parenting). It saddens me that children s lives are so disposable. Titus Andronicus during the Spanish War of Succession In 2000, Julie Taymor restaged Shakespeare s Titus Andronicus, mixing it with World War II era culture. By taking one of Shakespeare s goriest tragedies and combining it with one of the most devastating moments in history, Taymor provides a new perspective on the play, in particular the universality of its conflicts. These conflicts are not only elevant at the end of the sixteenth century when Shakespeare wrote Titus Andronicus, but they are also suitable for the 1940s during World War II. All of the knowledge that we gain as ToK knowers cannot be considered infallible fact. The term fact implies that the statement or claim can be reinforced with substantial evidence and can be proven, and we have learned that almost any information can be considered knowledge, no matter how subjective or specific the information is. Given that an individual is defined by having a specific and unique way of thinking and perceiving the world, most of the knowledge gained in several different Areas of Knowledge are heavily dependent on the perspectives of the individuals under examination. Both the Areas of Knowledge of Ethics and Human Sciences have many ambiguities when it comes to organizing and legitimizing this data. This leads the knower to ask, What makes information factual in terms of ToK knowledge? It can be proven through Ethics and Human Sciences that knowledge is not the systematic organization of facts, but the systematic organization of collective data to show trends and patterns. Ethical boundaries and impressions are subjective to every individual, and the public ethical boundary must be based off of the accumulative average of the environment. For centuries, people follow the stereotype that people of a different gender or sexual identity are looked down upon and considered outliers of the society. A few questions that we will evaluating are: if people dislike LGBTQ+ in the workforce because they are homosexuals, or because they are lacking in skill, education, experience etc. Second question that ties with the root of the issue is to find out why majority of people discriminate individuals that identify as LGBTQ+ homosexuals. Lastly, our group will be explaining different point of views of this issue. We will be using a variety of frameworks that we have learned in class such as viewing the social problem with a Neoliberal, Neoconservative and transformative outlook to analyze the social problem. Outcome (competency) based education article summary Morcke, Dornan and Eika, composed an article about the origins, theoretical basics and empirical evidence of competency based education. Morcke states that outcome or competency based education is guided education based upon predetermined outcomes. Competency based education has been around and used sporadically for the last decade. Competency based education arose from the educational changes that were a result of the space race in the 1960 s. This basis of this type of education first arose from behaviorist theories. Following the lead of the likes of B.F. Skinner and Bloom competency theory followed the idea that teaching should or could be based solely on observable behavior. This idea was both criticized and agreed with by many. A large critic of competency based education was Stenhouse; who argued that predetermined goals would not be effect in teaching. He believed that using this method of education one was not easily able to specify goals or asses the progress of students. Stenhouse also argues that the correct or best way to educate is to draw the knowledge from the students, not train students. Competency based education was reformed in the 1980 s by Spady and Harden who named it the performance based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kristallnacht was a violent protest that caused great damage to Jewish owned buildings and businesses. It was on November 9, 1938 that it began and though the Nazis despised Jews, they claimed that there was more to the pogrom and why it happened. The pretext for the pogroms was the shooting in Paris on November 7 of the German diplomat Ernst vom Rath by a Polish Jewish student, Herschel Grynszpan. • 21. Plato And Aristotle s Life Essay In much of both Plato and Aristotle s works there seems to be a general trend about the best way to live one s life and the different facets, actions and experiences one should encounter to reach this position. For Plato such claims can be clearly examined through his work entitled the Phaedo where he tunes into the qualification of what characteristics of human beings make up the essential pieces to one achieving the best life. Uniquely, in the instance of the Phaedo this comes by means of The Myth of Minotaur where a half man half bull is creature is formed, locked away and eventually slain by Theseus. However, such story signifies more than just the killing of beast for Socrates in Plato s text but rather stands as a metaphor for Socrates s death in which he represents the beast combined of body and soul slain by Athens. For it is the soul that leads to the best life of rational thinking but being combined with the body creates a beast which is all that is seen by Athens. Aristotle also makes an interpretation as to the best life one is to live in his text entitled Nicomachean Ethics. Throughout this work Aristotle makes continuous points as to why happiness should be the ultimate goal to anyones life. However, this can only be achieved through a life of contemplation and theory. For Aristotle states that in order for one to follow down the path to happiness one needs to be virtuous through contemplation and thought. While Plato and Aristotle have different ways in ... In today s society, a high percentage of people consume beverages that contain added sugars and acid, but what effects does this sugar and acid have on our tooth enamel? Are sports drinks better for you than soda? This paper will discuss the effects of soda, sports drinks and energy drinks on the enamel of a person s teeth, what is enamel and why is it important. Dental erosion is a chronic loss of dental hard tissue that is chemically etched away from the tooth surface by acid. Most people would believe that the sugar in drinks was the main reason for the damage to their teeth. Although an excessive amount of sugar is not good for the teeth or body, it is the acid in the drinks that prove to produce the most damage. I will also discuss solutions and ways to protect and care for the health of teeth. It is very important to drink plenty of water and practice good oral hygiene daily. The enamel of teeth is the hardest and most highly mineralized substance in the body. It covers the outer layer of each tooth, and it is the most visible part of the tooth. Tooth enamel, plays a very important role in protecting teeth from decay, so it is important to do everything that will prevent enamel from eroding. It forms a strong barrier that shields the inner layers of the teeth from the effects of acids and plaque. It also protects the sensitive inner layers of the teeth from foods and beverages that are very hot or very cold. If enamel is destroyed, the body does not make more to ... To compare Martin Luther s and John Calvin s view on the subject of a sinful person, I thoroughly looked into their common doctrines and considered how they differ in implementing the rules that manage their ideology. I was able to conclude that even though Luther and Calvin shared similar doctrines, their conceptualization and interpretation of those doctrines is very different. Based on their opinions of sinners, I further realized that not only do they have divergent interpretations of similar doctrines, but they also have different ambitions and their personalities are extreme opposites. Luther often blamed the flesh, which Protestants refer to as our sinful nature (they believed is the cause of human impurities), for the sins of every human and he gave credit to the Spirit for every good things that man does. The Reformers and the Protestants believe that there are two types of spirits: the Holy Spirit, which they proclaim to be the spirit of God, and the human spirit, which is the part of humans that opens up to the spirit of God. The uncaused cause holds to that which is outside the framework of causation. Most philosophers hold that this first cause cannot be caused for the reason that it is outside causation. Something would need to set forth in motion the ring of causality. If the premise stands, then such a first cause would have to exist necessarily, otherwise it would have been caused. This necessity is one of causal relation, as long as the premise is accepted. As regards the cosmological argument itself, McCloskey states that all we entitled to infer is the existence of a cause commensurate with the effect to be explained, the universe, and this does not entitle us to postulate an all powerful, all perfect, uncaused cause. (p.63) This is indeed true, there is no reason to necessarily infer a God person, however; the inference is of the nature that suggests (hence the term infer) a cause of such magnitude that it is practically God like. Many people have been a victim of injustices and prejudism unless they are a part of what is known as the dominant group. There are a few theoriest who have used their platform (which they had to work hard for) to discuss important social issues. Two of the few are William Edward Burghardt (W.E.B) Du bois and Dorothy E. Today, we tell the story of how a British attack on Fort McHenry in the port of Baltimore led to The Star Spangled Banner, America s national anthem. In the summer of 1814, British forces attacked Washington, DC. They burned the Capitol building, the White House and other public buildings. Then they withdrew to their ships in the Chesapeake Bay. British General Robert Ross and Admiral George Cockburn led the attack on Washington. Next they planned to attack Baltimore. But the people of Baltimore expected the attack, and began to prepare for it. Fifty thousand of them built defenses around the city. The port of Baltimore was protected by Fort McHenry. The guns and cannon of the fort could prevent British ships from reaching the city. The British began with a land attack against Baltimore. General Ross, Admiral Cockburn and about 4,000 British soldiers landed at North Point, a finger of land reaching into the Chesapeake Bay. From North Point, it was a march of about 22 kilometers to Baltimore. The British began marching at about seven in the morning. General Ross and Admiral Cockburn stopped their men after an hour. Patriarchy In The Canterbury Tales Chaucer has mastered the techniques required to skilfully put his points across and subtle irony and satire is particularly effective in making a point, (Sheppard). As written by this college professor, Chaucer is very effective in using comedy, and satire, to casually attack sacred ideals of his time. Chaucer carefully uses his characters to battle common ideals, such as his use of the Wife of Bath to pick on patriarchy. In his Canterbury Tales, Chaucer begins with a general prologue where all characters are introduced, including a few who don t quite fit the mold of holy . In the Pardoner s Tale, Chaucer speaks through him and brings the hypocrisy of the church into the light. Chaucer uses his writing of Canterbury Tales to attack two major idea s of his time, including the idea of men being superior to women and the purity of the church. In Chaucer s day society was built on patriarchy, but Chaucer uses Canterbury Tales to voice his radical ideals. A few of these radical ideas come to the surface in the Wife of Bath s prologue. When the woman stands before the group and speaks about herself, she reveals a side of Chaucer that is a threat to society. As the Wife speaks she tells the pilgrims how she believes that women run the world, and how men are the inferior sex. The Wife tells her audience in her prologue, And when I d mastered him, and out of deadlock secured myself the sovereignty in wedlock, (p.129 lines 517 518). This line tells her listeners that she mastered her husband and gained control of the household. The idea of a woman having control of anything in that time was extremely radical. The District of Columbia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Utah, and Wisconsin do not have specific prohibitions against wage discrimination on the basis of sex; rather, statutes in those four states and the District of Columbia have more general employment discrimination prohibitions. Despite the fact that a majority of states have enacted some form of pay equity statutory provisions, statutory language differentiates those states in four significant ways.
