The Beat Movement And Kerouac s On The Road
The beat movement is expressed the social and literary nonconformity of artists, poets, and writers.
The word beat originally meant weary but came to refer as well to a musical beat. Followers of this
movement, called beats or beatniks, lived nonconformist lives. They tended to shun regular work and
sought a higher consciousness through Zen Buddhism, music, and, sometimes, drugs. Works that
capture the essence of this era include Allen Ginsberg s long, free verse poem, Howl, published in
1956, and Jack Kerouac s novel of the movement, On the Road, published in 1957.
Alan Freed s listeners responded enthusiastically, and Freed began promoting the new music that grew
out of rhythm and blues and country and pop. He called the music rock n roll. In the early and mid
1950s, Richard Penniman, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and His Comets, and especially Elvis Presley
brought rock n roll to a frantic pitch of popularity among the newly affluent teens who bought their
records. Elvis Presley, the unofficial King of Rock n Roll, first developed his musical style by singing
in church and listening to gospel, country, and blues music on the radio in Memphis, Tennessee. Not

One proposed solution to the housing problem in inner cities was urban renewal. The National
Housing Act of 1949 was passed to provide a decent home and a suitable living environment for every
American family. This act called for tearing down rundown neighborhoods and constructing low
income housing. Later, the nation s leaders would create a new cabinet position, Housing and Urban
Development (HUD), to aid in improving conditions in the inner city. Although dilapidated areas were
razed, parking lots, shopping centers, highways, parks, and factories were constructed on some of the
cleared land, and there was seldom enough new housing built to accommodate all the displaced

Remote Minehunting System ( Rms ) Of Littoral Combat Ship
This paper examines Remote Minehunting System (RMS) of Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) in detail.
LCS is a fast platform designed for executing operations in near shore environments. But, it is capable
of conducting open ocean operation as well. It is designed to defeat asymmetric threats. Mines,
submarines and fast surface craft can be shown as unique examples of asymmetric threats. The LCS,
which is a fast, maneuverable surface ship, provides warfighting capabilities for tasks/missions
including mine warfare, anti submarine warfare (ASW) and anti surface warfare (ASUW). The RMS,
which will be deployed on LCS, is a component of the LCS Mine Countermeasures (MCM) mission
package (MP). The mission package is called the Remote Minehunting System. The system uses the
Remote Multimission Vehicle (RMMV). The RMMV vehicle is produced by Lockheed Martin. It
conducts autonomous and/or semi autonomous missions. It also carries AQS 20A minehunting sonar.
The sonar attached to RMMV is specifically designed for a variable depth forward looking and side
scanning under sea. Raytheon makes the AQS 20As. The RMS detects, classifies, and localizes non
buried bottom and moored mines. It also identifies shallow water bottom mines.
U.S. Navy plans to keep its ships out of the dangerous minefield with the RMS. Navy focuses on
decreasing core crew for mine warfare while conducting mine hunting operations as well. Navy
envisions that this concept with RMS on LCS will prove a significant force

The Air National Guard And Part Of The 176th Wing
I am in the Air National Guard and part of the 176th Wing. The two primary missions of the 176th
Wing are airlift and search and rescue (to include civil search and rescue). This includes federal
missions as well as state missions. My organization does not seek a profit but we do have competitors
for our airlift and search and rescue capabilities. According to Grant and Jordan (2012), an industry
should focus on strategic management and focus on the competition and the goal of having a
competitive advantage. The 176th Wing s internal resources and capabilities allow us to be different
from our civilian and military competitors within the state concerning civil search and rescue (Grant
Jordan, 2012). Our key competitors are the State of Alaska and the Coast Guard in the state.
176th Wing Strategy and How it was Developed The strategy of the 176th Wing is to work with
internal and external partners to increase our Arctic representation, emergency management response,
engagement in Alaskan rural communities, and to continue to perform multiple federal and state
missions. The strategy of the 176th Wing is set by the Governor of Alaska through The Adjutant
General and the Wing Commander. The strategy of the 176th Wing is unique primarily based on our
location and our

A Smiling Buddhist Monk
The historical work I have chosen is called A smiling Buddhist Monk , more commonly known as
Laughing Buddha . The sculpture is from the Henan province, located in northern China, made in the
Ming dynasty, dated AD 1486. The artist of this work is unknown as it is from this era but the sculptor
may have been a Buddhist monk. Manually constructed and carved from Stoneware, this Buddha is
glazed in the sancai palette, meaning created from a colour scheme based of three colours. The
modern work I have chosen is called Our Gods , created by Liu Xiaoxian in 2000, a Chinese
Australian born in 1963. His work is an altered and edited photograph compiling of two pieces;
Buddha created from 22,500 miniscule figures of Christ, and Christ created from 22,500 figures of
Buddha. The contemporary work, Our Gods is based off the historical work Laughing Buddha , as it
incorporates the image of the Buddha into its work, symbolising the happiness and foundation of the

Concert Review
I attended this concert at CU Denver s King Center, Concert Hall. Although the architectural design
and surrounding did not attest to much artistic creativity, the actual concert was better than my
expectations. I did have lower expectations because it was presented by students instead of
professional musicians or dancers as in my last concert review. The ensemble, a collaborative outcome
from MSU Denver and other dance/cultural music groups from denver, was actually a mix of African
and Indian/East Asian music and dance. The two teams alternated between each other giving the
audience a great deal of contrast of movement and sound. My favorite were the second and fifth
performances, African and Indian respectively.

They presented a story of a goddess teasing a boy with a magical ball, then throwing it into a pond
where a monster is asleep. The boy then awakens this monster trying to reach the ball. The story is
meant to encourage people to face their fears and fight for what they want. I liked how they used the
same movements when they were describing the story before starting their performance which they
later used during the dance. For example, one of the dancers showed the same throwing movement
which she later used in the performance. The dance was accompanied by an Indian chant like song
over the speakers. It had the same simplistic nature as the African music discussed above which I
again noticed that it put the focus on the dancers. They music and movement was much slower and
calmer than the Africans, which makes sense when seen in light of the Eastern Asian spiritual
philosophy of

The Snows Of Kilimanjaro And The Big Two Hearted River
This research paper will analyze style and theme in two of Ernest Hemingway s short stories, The
Snows of Kilimanjaro and The Big Two Hearted River, and two novels, The Sun Also Rises and Green
Hills of Africa.1
The Snows of Kilimanjaro is about an author named Harry, who is lying on the African plain and
dying of gangrene. The Big Two Hearted River is about an ex World War I soldier, Nick, who is trying
to put his life back together after the war. Similarly, The Sun Also Rises involves an ex soldier who is
coping with a personal injury and seeks love with a woman named Brett Ashley. Lastly, Green Hills of
Africa, is a non fiction story about Hemingway hunting in Africa. Hemingway visited Africa in 1923.
This is the only book that is completely autobiographical. In the four works reviewed, Ernest
Hemingway has two themes, one about the self and another about his interpretation of a hero, and uses
several techniques such as symbolism, first person narrative, and ambiguity that define his style of
writing.
Analysis of all of Hemingway s prose reveals many themes. Two themes though stand out in the four
works reviewed for this paper. One of them is that the main character (usually the hero) must assert
the self, has a fear of failure, and attacks those things which threaten the successful assertion of the
self. Assertion of the self in the stories usually takes the form of the assertion of the masculine
principle. In Green, Hemingway exerts his masculinity by

Barbarity and The struggle between classes.(Allende 10 12)Which means that even though both
novels promoted All Rights for Women they gave us a different outlook, because of the way these
events were placed. In my first novel Isabel joined a group with other women and made sure the
community needed to hear their voices, while on the other hand in my second novel instead of women
being the secondary character it was opposite and the men are secondary. Now these themes are
contrasting due to the time period in which both the novels were written in.
In Addition, these themes have taught me a valuable lesson that we women can t be tearing eachother

Hades: God of the Underworld Who s Hades? Hades is the son of Kronos and Rhea. Hades is the god
of the underworld or the dead. He was also named Pluton (the giver of wealth) by the people who
preferred calling him that instead of Hades. He received his ruling of the underworld when they, Zeus
and his siblings, locked their father in Tartarus. He was always different than the other gods, since he
preferred the company of spirits. He abducted the daughter of Zeus, Persephone, and made her eat in

Just As The Hands Of A Clock Are Constantly Moving, Time
Just as the hands of a clock are constantly moving, time is constantly going about changing society.
Relationships among people have changed significantly from what they were in the past. Specifically,
the way in which people interact has changed drastically. However, the one interaction has remained
relatively the same throughout: bullying. Bullying, a negative interaction, has produced many
statistics. In other words, bullying has made its mark in who the common bullies are, who are the
typical victims of bullying, the repercussions of bullying, and ways in which bullying is linked to

On the contrary to the negativity forwarded by the bully, there are aspects that may help children
avoid the drive for power behavior. The alternative to being a bully is an effective member of society.
If a child has the right friend group they will be less inclined to be involved in negative behavior. By
right friend group this means, supportive in nature. Those who are not the alternative are unfortunate
in the matter that they become the victim of bullying. Overweight and obese children are often bullied.
As well as, anxious, socially withdrawn, and aggressive children are often found to be the victims of
bullying. The reasons behind these characteristics being common amongst victims is because those
who are anxious or socially withdrawn are not likely to fight back or retaliate if bullied. And contrary
to belief children who demonstrate aggressive tendencies fall victim to bullying because their behavior
may be interpreted as irritating by the bully. These children who are victims are victims of many types

A Computer Software Engineer develops software systems to be used by their clients, such as a

This review and evolution process is repeated as many times as needed, until the final Formal Spec is
produced, or the SRS. Then programming can begin. The process of writing a requirements
specification usually requires frequent communications between the developer and the client, keeping
the structure of the specification clear and the statements or expressions used readable is therefore
crucial (Lui et al.). Consequences and Time Spent The reason that a SRS is needed should be rather
obvious; if the requirements aren t written down, how do the software engineers know what to
program, and how does the client know what to expect? (Berezin) However, the SRS is often times
skipped, or written at a very high level, lacking enough detail. Taking the user requirements and
writing them into specifications is considered to be one of the most difficult steps in software
development, and therefore engineers frequently attempt to bypass this step. It is also very time
consuming are the engineers wasting their time writing the SRS when they should be programming?
In discussing this with Cheryl Lindauer, the Corporate Development Manager at Shoe Carnival, the
answer is an outstanding NO! The best investment any company can make is to write detailed SRS

Analysis of the Gladiator Trailer
Trailers are important to films for a number of reasons. They promote a film and present it to the
target audience, in order to encourage them to watch the film. Trailers also give the audience
expectations of the film. The audience like to know what to expect of a film before they go and see it.
The audience is given a taste of the story and the basic plot. This is done by showing an array of clips
that are edited to a certain degree. The trailer normally ends with a cliff hanger . This is a term used to

The Dating Of Pregnacy With Ultrasonography
DATING OF PREGNACY WITH ULTRASONOGRAPHY
FIRST TRIMESTER OF PREGNANCY (0 TO 13 WEEKS)
Parameters used for evaluating gestational age are:
1. Gestational sac measurement : Mean sac diameter (MSD) is measured using the sum of three
orthogonal dimensions of the fluid sac wall interface divided by three. Gestational sac is first
visualized by transabdominal sonography at 5 weeks. MSD increases at the rate of 1mm/day in early
gestation. At 5.5 weeks a yolk sac appears. At six weeks an embryo first appears adjacent to the yolk
sac.(11)
2. Crown Rump length (CRL) : Once the embryo can be visualized, the measurement of choice for
estimation of menstrual age becomes the crown rump length. Using transvaginal ultrasonography
(TVS), embryo can be visualized from fifth menstrual week onwards(12). The majority of early
studies on CRL demonstrated that the accuracy of the method in predicting menstrual age was 3 to 5
days (±2 standard deviations)(13,14).
Hadlock et al(15) concurred that accuracy decreases as the first trimester of pregnancy nears its end.
They developed measurement tables establishing menstrual age for CRL.

no. If there were no other groups in which we communicated with, we would not need to separate
ourselves. It is through interactions with other groups that we decide what will distinguish us as a

They began equating spices with luxury and eventually magic. However, unlike modern times, these
two concepts were linked to a negative connotation. In her piece detailing the spice trade, Pollard even
goes so far as to call it the offense of magic . This association suggests the Romans did not strive for
excess or luxury and instead valued a hardworking, practical life (though their definition of such a life
was most assuredly different than current ideas). Beyond just establishing societal values, this open
trade allowed for a growth in the economy and in literature. Many authors went to write stories based
on these spices. They wrote of witches and mages that used these herbs to cast dreadful spells. Art is a
physical expression of a culture and literature is considered under the category of art. These works that

The Basics Of Running And Its Benefits
Research Paper Topic: Running
Learning about the basics of running and its benefits could positively impact your life. Running is a
fairly common task that many of us learn at a young age. We practice running after we master walking
as babies or toddlers, chase or get chased by our siblings or enjoy it on the school playground during
recess. Then we progress to P.E. class, track and field days or cross country meets. Whether running is
a sport we pursue in school or not, it can be a learned fact or hobby that anyone can perform! There
are many known benefits of running, and as stated, anyone at any age can learn and enjoy. It has been
named the world s most accessible sport. Running dates back extremely far in history as related to
hunting and other religious festivals. While it might look very different in terms of fashions, trends
and GPS watches, I believe the form of running probably hasn t changed. To begin running, you
simply need to place one foot in front of the other and go! It is encouraged to exercise proper form to
maximize your experience and to gain the full affect. You should focus on holding your head up high
and looking forward. Shoulders will be relaxed, torso stretched and tall, which will result in the hips
being in alignment. Your arms will be bent and relaxed while your ankles project you forward. There
are certain styles of foot strikes that runners make; pronated, supinated or neutral. Also known by your
gait, your foot strike may or may not be

We Need Gun Control
Baton Rouge, Lousiana October 17, 1992 8:30 P.M....A Japanese exchange student, Yoshihiro Hattori,
was searching for a party he had been invited to. Thinking he had found the house in which the social
would take place, Yoshihiro knocked on the door. Not knowing that they had the wrong house
Yoshihiro and his companion startled the proprietor. After having the front door shut in their face the
two boys began walking back to Yoshihiro s car. Yoshihiro Hattori and his friend, Webb Haymaker,
then turned back towards the house upon hearing the carport door open behind them. Instead of seeing
the party s host, these two boys were greeted by a Freeze and a .44 Magnum carrying Rodney Peairs.

Assault weapons are characterized by the ability to fire large numbers of bullets in a very short
amount of time. These soldier type weapons are made for armies and police forces, not hunters. I ve

When its time to hunt birds, you need a good gun like this Ruger Red Label (a firearm designed for

The objective of the present study was to assess the extent of stroke knowledge, specifically regarding
the risk factors and warning signs of stroke. Thus, it is important to be well understood about stroke,
the risk factors and the warning signs. Furthermore, this review will discuss in details about the two
risk factors, stress and obesity that are significant among the studied population. This is followed by
the review on the state of stroke knowledge and its importance from the previous studies among

Case Study On Charcoal Briquettes
Market Study
The marketing study strives to establish the project s viability and tries to gain an understanding of the
different areas surrounding the project itself. It involves the gathering and evaluating of relevant data
whether it is desirable to implement a project proposal. These provide an understanding on the
charcoal briquettes production by analytical study of its demand supply relationship, determine its
target customers and give an assessment on the cooperative s competitors. This assessment shall give
the proponents the idea on the concept of competitive position in the market and formulate a
marketing strategy that will be used for the growth of the organization in gaining an advantage over
the key players in the industry.
Project Description
The proposed project inspired to put up multipurpose cooperative in Jovellar, Albay to produce

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS (PORTER S FIVE FORCES)
Supplier Power:
The bargaining power of suppliers in the Fantasy Sports Industry should be considered medium to
low. It would be difficult for any one company to drive up the prices because the businesses are not
competing on price, but are competing based upon sites ease of use and complementary of products,
such as sports news and analysis. Sites are able to charge for additional services such as
complementary products and may be able to compete somewhat on these price points.
Threat of New Entrants:
The threat of new entrants is extremely high and not likely to change any time soon. The tools that are
necessary to run a fantasy site have not changed very much in the past few years. Similarly, although,
issues are being raised regarding whether antitrust laws are in question due to Disney/ESPN s recent
acquisition, Fantasy Sports regulation has been lax and investment necessary to start online businesses
of this nature is relatively low.
Threat of Substitutes:
As mentioned above, the tools that are necessary to run a fantasy site have not changed very much in
the past few years and are not anticipated to change in the near future; however, methods for accessing

Analysis Of Forester s A Passage Of India Essay
The characters Fielding and Aziz in E.M. Forester s A Passage to India differ greatly when it comes to
the integration and development of the intimate relationships in their lives. While Fielding starts off
having close to none of these vital relationships in his reality, he soon leaves behind this meaningless
way of life and begins interacting with people in more complex and intimate ways. Aziz, on the other
hand, seems to start the novel much more open to these relationships, forgetting most of his initial
aversions to foreigners and attempting to connect of a deeper emotional level with the people around
him. Approaching the end of the novel, however, Aziz experiences trauma that causes him to shut
down almost completely, casting him into a world with much fewer vital relationships. Maybe this
shows a maturing in both characters, as Fielding learns to be less guarded and more involved with
those around him while Aziz learns to be smarter about who he entrusts with his friendship. When
these fundamental human relationships are absent during stages of these characters lives, an existence
void of meaning and full of misunderstanding and conflict results, and thus we see E.M. Forester s
assertions about the importance of human intimacy proven as accurate. Initially, there is a great
dissimilarity between Fielding and Aziz when it comes to their level of emotional involvement with
others. Aziz is painted as an open character. He holds a strong relationship with a woman who

Abstract Since one s health is a factor considered, data coming from Twitter, one of the most popular
social media platforms often used by millions of people, is beneficial for predictions of certain
diseases. The researchers created a system that will improve the precision rate of the current system

Twitter provides free APIs from which a sampled view can be easily obtained. It helps build a map
spread model. In line with this, the researchers came up with an idea of working on a research using
these Twitter data, focusing on the so called tweets regarding diseases and health, specifically, the flu
or influenza.
Furthermore, previous studies were made regarding this topic. In 2008, there was a website called
Google Flu Trends that took data from Google, Facebook, and Twitter itself [2]. It was widely used in
its release, but it was proven to have inconsistencies with regards to its data [2].
Back in 2011 2013, Google Flu Trends overestimated the number of people who had flu by 50% [3].
One possible cause was its inclusion of data which contained the word flu or influenza , wherein the
person who tweeted or posted about it did not have the flu at all [3].
There was also a study that made a precision of 0.78 or 78% using the Naïve Bayes Classification
algorithm to identify tweets that mention flu or flu like symptoms [4]. As mentioned earlier, previous
researchers had difficulty classifying these tweets as some data gathered got accepted even though the
person did not have it.
According to the Department of Health of the Philippines [5], getting flu is possible by contacting
items that are contaminated through the discharges of an infected

Patients considered to have had more needs further completed a Home Care assessment. Therefore,
HC was used as a step up tool from the Contact Assessment. Of the 6398 records, 2056 were CA
records and 4342 were HC records respectively.
Investigations into the aggregated 6398 $times$ 389 data set revealed that some patients had records
for both types of assessment tools. Another complexity was that some patients had completed multiple
forms, for a single assessment type, over the duration. A patient with more than one of each type of
assessment records, was treated as having duplicates. There were a total of 1550 duplicates.
Elimination of duplicate records was done by chronologically ordering all records pertaining to each
patient, for each assessment type, and then only the most recent records for each assessment type were
used. If a patient had completed both types of assessments, their records for the two most recent
assessments were combined to form HCCA or HC CAfootnote{HCCA was a combination of Home
Care and Contact Assessment}. This increased the assessments to three types from the original two.;
and also reduced the overall data set to 4842 observations and 389 variables.
The current study makes a distinction between factors/ questions that are directly related to a patient s
current condition and those that are assigned as a summary to highlight the clinically perceived

On The Roof Of The World By Sir Charles G. D. Roberts
1) I believe that there are many ways that the author has chosen to set up a man and animal as
competitors in the story On The Roof Of The World by Sir Charles G. D. Roberts.
One of the reasons that the author has set up a man and an animal as competitors is that unlike normal
circumstances where mankind is on top of the food chain, higher that every other living thing known.
In this short story, the man and the polar bear are on approximately the same level of the food chain.
As the bear is equipped with claws, the man evens himself out with the spear he had fashioned
himself. The author seems write this to portray his question of, is humankind more superior to other
living species when having to live in almost the exact same conditions in which the animals live in?
Another way it thinks that the author has set up a man and an animal as competitors is to show how
similar things a human would do like an animal if put in such a situation such as high winds,
predators, and a constant danger of frostbite, a human would only care about three things, food, shelter
and water like an animal. With the only source of food, a human would resort to savage ways so
similar to the ways of a polar bear as the story states, without an instant s hesitation the man hurled his
spear (p. 164) and when with a growl of rage, the bear tore it loose and charged upon the man (p. 164).
This shows that when a human is exposed to this type of environment, they would kill for food

Luddism
David F. Noble draws valuable parallels between our era of burgeoning technology and the
technological advances of the industrial revolution.
Proponents of technology during both eras, says Noble, argued that technological advancement was an
essential, unstoppable force that would be inherently beneficial to humanity.
Noble s counter argument looks at the human costs of unchecked technological growth, along the way
re examining and redefining the meaning of Luddism.
Noble stands in defence of Luddism and moves accusations of irrationalism to the religion of
technology on which modern society is supposedly based. According to him, in the wake of five

He argues that, while many processes were developed to improve metalworking after the war, the ones
that ultimately prevailed were not the ones which were most efficient. He demonstrates how several
alternate techniques actually had better results more quickly that the NC (Numeric Control) machining
which eventually came to dominate the industries, and in fact the NC machines were often slower for
a significant period of years.
So why was there so much investment in the less efficient machines? Simple: the owners paid the R D
costs, and the owners were more concerned about control that about pure efficiency or quality. NC
machines held the promise of being able(eventually) to manufacture high quality goods WITHOUT
SKILLED LABOR (precisely like the looms that the Luddites objected to). If you depend upon skilled
workers, those workers have some control, most obviously because they can t be easily replaced. If the
workers are minimally skilled, they can be more easily replaced, hence the owners have more control.
Is there anything in common between the age of automation now upon us and the first industrial
revolution long ago (circa 1790 1840)? Yes. Both surged ahead with technical progress and
production, and eliminated jobs without jobs for the workers. Both claimed that technological progress
was inevitable and would automatically put things right.

ABSTRACT: Uma Parameswaran is a versatile writer critic who has attempted to capture the trauma
and dilemma of the diasporic self. Drawing on her first hand knowledge of the white collar,
professional and academic diaspora in Canada, she attempts to voice their dilemmas and confusions,
and above all, their feeling of rootlessness, their fear that having been uprooted once, they will never
again be able to take root anywhere, despite their best efforts. The angst of the diaspora, striving to
retain their identity even as they struggle to assimilate and become one of them , forms the core of

In the novel Mangoes on the Maple Tree, the flooding of the Red and the Assiniboine that threatens
the peaceful life of Winnipeg, brings the community together and removes barriers in an
unprecedented way. Jayant is one of the young men who work tirelessly, shoulder to shoulder with the
others, to sandbag the river and divert the floodwaters. The waters of the river that threatens brown
and white alike, and endangers harmony, may perhaps be seen as a levelling and unifying force, and
thus becomes as sacred to the immigrant consciousness as the Ganga. The play Dear Deedi My Sister
concludes with the extract from Sapna s letter to her Deedi in India, We must build our temple here,
where the Assiniboine flows into the Red. And we shall bring Ganga, as Bhagirata did of old, to our
land, our Assiniboine, and here shall be groves where Uma shall dance with Parameswara (Sons 73).
Thus we have Parameswaran playing on the mythological overtones of her own name to reinforce her
notion of a unique diasporic Canadian identity, forged by those who have crossed the oceans, carrying
their own baggage of myths and beliefs, and confidently asserting their selfhood in a new land. Savitri

1993 World Trade Center Bombing Research Paper
The 1933 World Trade Center Bombing was a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, carried out
on February 26, 1993, when a truck bomb exploded below the North Tower of the World Trade Center
in New York City. Six suspects carried out this bombing that killed six people and injured more than
1000 people. Ramzi Yousef was one of the main perpetrators of this 1993 bombing. His reasoning
behind it was to get back at the United States for aiding Israel and making the Palestinian people

Government officials estimated that it would be unlikely that the cost of the bombing reach the record
$15 billion in losses from Hurricane Andrew. However, the destruction will by far exceed the $330
million in losses caused by a flood in downtown Chicago. The 1993 World Trade Center bombing
caused $1.1 billion dollars in insured losses. This includes $317 million in relocation expenses, $318
million in lost business and lost labor, and $79 million in lost retail sales. The bombing shaped up to
be one of New York City s most costly financial disruptions. Business at the World Trade Center had
come to a screeching stop. The bombing affected many businesses, including banks, retail stores,
hotels, restaurants etc. More than 350 businesses hoped that the bombing would be covered by
insurance. Some businesses are concerned that insurers will not pay all their expenses leaving them to
pay for it themselves. Insurance rates drastically increased for businesses inside and outside of New
York City. Stores have seen business drop by 50 to 90 percent, forcing some layoffs. Jon Torres,
manager of Lynn s Hallmark card shop said that his business was off by 92 percent. They opened right

had 28 employees, and I m working with about 7. They keep calling to see if they should come in, but
I ve got nothing for them to do, says Torres. Like Torres, many businesses are anxious about when
they will return to normal. The New York Vista Hotel that sits above the site of the explosion, which is
now vacant, is losing $150,000 to $250,000 a day. It may cost more than a couple hundred million to

Diction Analysis
Diction is the selection of words in a literary work. Diction conveys action, implies attitudes, develops
themes, suggests values, and reveals a character. Diction and contrasting imagery are really important
because they are what readers react and connect to. The Flowers , a short story by Alice Walker, is a
great example of diction at play. This short story uses contrasting imagery and diction to develop and
show meaning in the work. The contrasting imagery and diction convey meaning in Alice Walker s
short story, The Flowers because they show how the happy and good times shifted towards gloomy
and sad moments. Also, the contrasting imagery and diction identify the loss of childhood innocence
as a theme and they describe how Myop ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diction and contrasting imagery also conveys meaning to the text by showing a shift in the theme
of the work. In the beginning of the short story, diction and imagery played their role in conveying
Myop to be and innocent, young, and happy girl. Towards the middle, Myop was hinted to having an
altering innocence. Finally, the diction and contrasting imagery shatters Myop s life because it
portrays a loss of childhood innocence. Seeing the dead man changed the way she saw life. Instead of
grazing fields and golden surprises, she now saw an empty man with large, broken, white teeth, rotted
clothes, and his head spinning restlessly in the breeze. The word choice and imagery chosen to
describe this scene conveyed meaning to The Flowers because it revealed that Myop s character was
now experiencing a loss of innocence and that the happy and pleasant moments were completely gone.
The description and imagery used to describe the guy illustrates a horrific scene in the readers mind
and conveys that the story had just experienced a plot twist from peaceful times to depressing and
somber moments. There are many instances in which diction and contrasting imagery convey meaning
in The Flowers. The contrasting imagery sets the setting of the story and defines the way Myop sees
the world. The diction elaborates on the setting, reveals Myop s character, and illustrates her loss of
childhood innocence. The diction

Brunetto Latini, Ulysses and Guido da Montefeltro, we are able to understand that people are self
interested in the way they act and present themselves to others and that those in Hell are there because
they have sinned and failed to repent their sins and moral failings. The story of Brunetto Latini teacher

Francesca was married to Paolo s brother and one day while Francesca and Paolo were reading the
story of Lancelot and Guinevere, and when they got to the romantic part of the story they confessed to
each other and kissed. Francesca s husband found out shortly after and had both of them killed.
Francesca s sin was not only adultery, but also failure to accept her own responsibility for her actions.
In the story of Lancelot is about the fall of Camelot and the consequence of adultery, which shows that
Francesca and Paolo knew what they were getting themselves into and that there would be
consequences. Francesca blamed Paolo for everything, as if she didn t have control over anything that
happened. This is shown when Francesca is explaining to Dante why she is in hell. Love, that excuses
no one loved from loving, seized me so strongly with delight in him, (Dante, Inferno, V, line 103 104).
From this we can clearly see how she is completing blaming her actions solely on love rather than
standing up and taking responsibility for the actions she has committed. She said that love held her
down so strongly that it drew her to Paolo and that she had no way of escaping. After hearing this,
Dante becomes faint, for Francesca has seduced him, she disguised her sin with a love story, making it
sound like she had no fault at all. From the story

Essay about Love in Valentine and The Flea
Love in Valentine and The Flea
Through a close analysis of language, structure and theme, compare and contrast the poets attitude to
love in Valentine and The Flea.
The poem The Flea is about a man trying to cunningly argue a woman into bed. John Donne s The
Flea was a metaphysical poem, written most probably, to entertain an audience of men; this was called
a coterie, which was a group of like minded individuals who cleverly wrote for each other s
amusement. This poem was written sometime in the 17th century where religion was extremely
important and sex before marriage frowned upon. The poet is exploring ideas and feelings about lust
and how unimportant losing virginity is, which a woman will obviously object to. ... Show more

He is persistent in his argument and irritating, this portrays himself as a replicate of a flea, just trying
to get what he wants.
In the first stanza John Donne is narrating to the reader. The flea has sucked his blood and hers and he
is now using this flea as an example for his argument by saying:
Mark but this flea, and mark in this,
How little that which thou deniest me is;
He is also implying that virginity is small and insignificant. This will obviously offend the girl because
virginity is a very important gift that a woman has to bestow on a man. But the poet does not seem to
give up on this point.
The poet uses cunning phrases such as:
Thou know st that this cannot be said
A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead;
Which make me feel that he is lulling her into a sense of false security. This is a great technique to win
his argument.
At the end of stanza one, the poet becomes quite melodramatic:
Yet this enjoys before it woo,
And pamper d swells in one blood made of two;
And this, alas! is more than we would do.
Donne could be implying that the flea easily has enjoyment from sucking her blood and that he
himself has no pleasure from her. This might show he has an egotistical attitude towards women.
Donne s use of physical language such as suck d , blood and
swells implies his lustful desires and show the sensual undercurrents of the poem.

Why Is John Adams Important
John Adams is a very important man in history. He is most commonly known for his role as the
second president of the United States. However, there is more to Adams then his role a the second
president of the United States. On October 30, 1775, Adams was born into a farming family in present
day Quincy, Massachusetts. Like many young boys, John Adams admired the outdoors. When he grew
old enough Adams wanted to become a farmer. His father, John Adams Sr., knew that he had more
potential. Adams never had much of an interest in school work, nevertheless his parents provided him
with a good education. As a young boy Adams attended a public Latin school in Quincy,
Massachusetts. As well as providing Adams with a good education, his parents also equipped him with
two private tutors. In 1755, Adams decided to further his education at Harvard. At nineteen years old
Adams had decided to pursue a career as an grammar teacher. It didn t take John Adams one to realize
that being an grammar was not what he was called to do. He was later admitted to Boston
Massachusetts Bar where he focused on law. After graduation Adams was a lawyer, but he only took
part in a few minor cases. In 1764 Adams had married Abigail Adams. Together they had five ... Show

Abortion Ethical Case Study
Before researching on abortion issues, I never imagined it to be such controversial and debatable case
because the problem arises from the very early stages of analyzing what administrative ethics would
answer. I became overwhelmed to start because my mind became blurred on legality and ethics of
abortion as early as defining administrative ethics: well based standards of right and wrong
prescribing what public administrators ought to do in terms of duty to public service, principles,
virtues, and benefits to society . Ethics triangle is grounded on duties in the center with principles,
virtues, and benefits to society augmenting it. Duties of public administrator involves those
obligations taken on while assuming a position . They might ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Nowadays, religious believers oppose abortion on the ground of their scientific basis. Peter Singer
argued that ...from the first moments of its existence an embryo conceived from human sperm and
eggs is a human being. (Catholic Answers, 2015). Including pre delivery stage into existence of
human being implies that fetus is just one of the stage of human life and his/her development as like
childhood, adulthood, etc.). In that standing, fetus is not a mere body part of a woman on which she
has full freedom to cut off; therefore, abortion is a type of manslaughter, immoral, unethical, and
illegal. I find scientific basis incapable of helping to determine the case as its implication differs
across individuals ( some argue that a human being is capable of living independent existence which
excludes the unborn). Up to now, I did not find a persuasive argument to support my pre research view
as a proponent of abortion; therefore, I tried to find the core of this issue from a legal aspect by
analyzing the existent statutory laws. Azerbaijan Constitution does not specify this issue but simply
states that everyone has the right for life because defining that everyone is the essence of the debate.
Nevertheless, Constitution also gives rights from the moment when they are born ; therefore, right to
live may not include the unborn. Moreover,I found some hints

Based on statistics from 2015, there are currently 400,000 orphans within the United States s foster
system. An orphan would be described as a child whose parents or guardians are deceased. For the
young orphan that face the traumatic experience of having or perhaps even watching their parents die,
may possibly possess serious psychological problems. Throughout this research paper, there will be
several descriptions of common disorders or mental illnesses that an orphan may experience from
being separated from their birth parents or guardians. The first disorder common in orphan children
and young adults is attachment disorder. Attachment disorder can be described as an psychological
illness found in children that have issues with attachment.

Essay On Judaism
In order for the humans in early history to create a successful civilization, they needed a few main key
components. First, these people needed a good food source so they can sustain a growing population
in their community. Next, they needed a strong army to survive wars between other civilizations and
each other. Finally, they needed a powerful leader to create laws for the civilians. The Hebrews, a
civilization in Canaan, did not have all of these key factors. Although, they were still famous for their
religion, Judaism. Judaism was unique compared to other religions in the region because it focused on
morality, gave the freedom to choose, and it was monotheistic.
All of the empires near the Hebrews were very warlike people. They had strong armies, weapons such
as iron weapons and horse drawn chariots, and some of these empires were very conquerors, such as
Persia. The Hebrews were not warlike people. Instead, they were a very ... Show more content on

Monotheism is a religion that believes in one God. The Hebrews were the only civilization in their
area that were monotheistic. Most of the other civilizations in the area, such as the Persians,
Babylonians, and Egyptians, were polytheistic, which is the belief in many gods. Instead of having
one god for the universe, these polytheistic religions had gods of nature for different parts of nature.
For example, in ancient Egypt, the god Osiris was the god of the Nile river. These civilizations near
the Hebrew civilization had hundred or thousands of gods they all believed in, or only city states in the
area believed in. Because of these other civilizations beliefs, they did not like the Hebrew s
monotheistic religion. They got conquered by civilizations near them such as the Assyrians and later
on, the Babylonians. Since the Hebrews were the only civilization that weren t war like, they got

Benefits Of Students Taking Introductory Physics Classes
The Problem of Problem Solving A common claim for the benefits of students taking introductory
physics classes is that students are taught essential problem solving skills. The skills that students
learn in these classes can be transferred, thus enabling them to be better problem solvers across the
board. Is this truly what is happening, though? Unfortunately, students thought processes in general
about solutions to physics problems is entirely formula centered with the objective being to determine
some unknown mathematical quantity (Van Heuvelen, 1991). Students are typically taught to solve
well structured problems (Jonassen, 2003). These problems with clear starting and ending points and a
definite, structured solution path are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Cognitive Science of Information Processing and Retrieval
Working Memory Through their examination of a multitude of studies centered around two prominent
theories of working memory, Honig theory and Braddely and Hitch Theory, Becker and Morris (1999)
generally define working memory ...as a system of interacting components that maintain newly
acquired and reactivated stored information, both verbal and nonverbal, and make it available for
further information processing (p. 1). Essentially, the working memory is what processes the
information that s at the front of someone s mind; it s the words, equations, and pictures that form a
running dialog that is their active thought process. The working memory has a limited capacity of 7 ±
2 items (Miller, 1956), and this limitation is key to understanding a primary difference between expert
and novice problem solvers.
Chunking
The differences between expert and novice chess players have been studied extensively. The primary
difference between these two groups resides in the expert s ability to hold a greater combination of
movement positions and piece relationships within their working memory. This is not due to an expert
s increased memory capacity, but rather their ability to encode this information into perceptual chunks
(Chase Simon 1973).
For example, one chunk of a novice player may contain a single move of a single piece whereas an
expert player s chunk

Tree Of 40 Trees
John Ramdath
The Tree of 40 Fruits
In 2008 Van Aken acquired the New York Agricultural Experiment Station orchard. Aken then began
to graft buds from the over 250 heritage varieties grown there on to stock trees. This stock tree then
tree accumulated branches from forty different donor trees, each with a different fruit, including
almond, apricot, cherry, nectarine, peach and plum varieties.
This is possible because of proper grafting techniques and the trees biology. Grafting a tree is a
farming technique in which a piece of the donor tree s stem, with buds, is inserted into the stock of a
tree. This is done because seeds from fruit trees cannot be reproduced true to the original cultivar from
seed. In other words, a granny smith ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the callus differentiation gives rise to the two major types of plant vascular tissue xylem and
phloem. Xylem is responsible for keeping the plant hydrated and can normally be fond towards the
center of the plant. All Xylem cells are dead, elongated and hollow. The two types of Xylem cells are
tracheids and vessel elements. Tracheids are found in most gymnosperms, ferns and lycophytes.
Tracheids cells are long, thin, and are connected together by tapered ends. The tapered ends run
alongside each other and have pits. These pits are holes in the cell wall that allow for water to travel
from cell to cell. The other type of Xylem is vessel elements which form the xylem of almost all
angiosperms. Vessel elements are shorter and wider than tracheids. Also the vessel elements are
connected end to end and the ends contain what are known as perforation plates. Perforation plates
have a number of holes in their cell walls which allows for water to travel freely between cells.
Phloem is composed of living cells and transports important sugars, organic compounds, nutrients and
macromolecules. The nutritious sap within the phloem travels by diffusion between cells. Phloem is
made from cells called sieve tube members and companion cells which are normally located on the
outer layers of the plant. Sieve tube members are cells that create chains of cells running the length of
the plant.
Sieve tube member s cells are missing some vital organelles such

Vikings Influence On American Culture
Scotland is located in northern Europe, sharing its only land border with England. It comprises the
northern third of Great Britain and the 790 islands surrounding it. Despite its high latitude, Scotland s
climate is actually quite temperate. Distinguished by the Highland Boundary Fault, the topography is
split into two distinctive regions; the Highlands and the lowlands. The Highlands, located in the north
and west of Scotland, are characterized by a more mountainous terrain that is difficult to cultivate. In
contrast, the lowlands, located in the south and east, are flatter, more fertile, and are home to most of
Scotland s population. Out of the country s 7.71 million hectares of land, 5.6 million are used for
agriculture. Of that 5.6 million, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Traditional dishes such as haggis, mince and tatties, and arbroath smokies indicate this. Mutton, beef,
and fish have been so popular in Scottish cuisine throughout time simply because they are the most
readily available ingredients. Dairy products are also widely used. These are provided by the heavy
grazing aspect of their agriculture industry, and their proximity to the ocean. Because of this, mutton,
beef, and fish are the main sources of protein in Scotland. Also, lipids are most commonly received
through the consumption of fish oil or dairy products such as milk. Products such as oats, barley, and
root vegetables, mostly potatoes, are also extremely common in the Scottish diet, for the fertile
lowlands and temperate climate provide perfect growing conditions for such foods. This means that
carbohydrates are mostly provided by potatoes and oat and barley products such as cereal. However,
in a health survey conducted in 2014, it was found that only one in five Scottish adults met the daily
recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables. This suggests that while Scots are well provided with
protein, lipids, and carbs, their diets may be seriously lacking in vital nutrients provided by fruits and
vegetables, such as fiber, potassium, and vitamin

How Investment Banking Is A Highly Regulated And Complex...
Investment banking is a highly regulated and complex sector that can be broken down into three main
principle businesses comprising of the Investment Banking Division, Trading Division and Asset
Management. First of all, the investment banking division can be sub divided into two basic groups
called product group and client coverage group. The primary focus of these two groups are to perform
mergers and acquisitions transaction advisory and financing arrangement for clients. The two main
groups in the product group are the mergers and acquisitions group and the capital markets group. In
the mergers and acquisitions group, there are five main products which is the sell side assignment, buy
side assignment, merger of equals joint venture, public market separation and hostile defense. The sell
side transaction involves the sale, merger or disposition of an entire company or any of its divisions
and assets. The buy side transaction involves the purchase of an entire company or any of its divisions
and assets. The sell side transaction typically have the highest priority due to its higher probability of
completion compared to the buy side transactions. Merger of equals joint ventures is the merging of
two companies of roughly equal assets that have a comparable market value. This allows the two
companies to form a new and stronger entity to initiate economic activity together with their shared
assets. Public market separation requires reorganization such as trading

Imprinting Argumentative Essay
Introduction
Wildlife rehabilitation centers take in sick, injured, and orphaned animals from the wild. The staff s
full intentions are to help the animals develop their old skills and recover completely. Everyone s goal
is to get the animals back into the wild where they belong. Due to some injuries, some animals lose
common skills; the center helps reteach lost skills (foraging, rearing behavior, and antipredator
behavior) to improve the animal s chance of survival after being released (Guy, 2013). But the staff is
also making sure that prerelease methods are taken. If humans are not cautious with these patients, the
animals may have a smaller chance of survival when released back into the wild. Unfortunately, some
animals are not allowed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taking regular precautions (educating the public, avoiding human and animal interaction), can help
the centers decrease imprinting. Centers use other strategies too, such as grouping conspecifics
together which can help increase natural behaviors: socialization, identifying competitive advantages,
discovering natural good, and obtaining a mate easier (Schwartz, 2016). Grouping also helps with
imprinting on the right species. Le Flochic (2015) found that when similar gorillas are grouped
together for a couple of weeks, the gorillas would mimic each other: playing, eating, and climbing.

  • 2. The Beat Movement And Kerouac s On The Road The beat movement is expressed the social and literary nonconformity of artists, poets, and writers. The word beat originally meant weary but came to refer as well to a musical beat. Followers of this movement, called beats or beatniks, lived nonconformist lives. They tended to shun regular work and sought a higher consciousness through Zen Buddhism, music, and, sometimes, drugs. Works that capture the essence of this era include Allen Ginsberg s long, free verse poem, Howl, published in 1956, and Jack Kerouac s novel of the movement, On the Road, published in 1957. Alan Freed s listeners responded enthusiastically, and Freed began promoting the new music that grew out of rhythm and blues and country and pop. He called the music rock n roll. In the early and mid 1950s, Richard Penniman, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and His Comets, and especially Elvis Presley brought rock n roll to a frantic pitch of popularity among the newly affluent teens who bought their records. Elvis Presley, the unofficial King of Rock n Roll, first developed his musical style by singing in church and listening to gospel, country, and blues music on the radio in Memphis, Tennessee. Not surprisingly, many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One proposed solution to the housing problem in inner cities was urban renewal. The National Housing Act of 1949 was passed to provide a decent home and a suitable living environment for every American family. This act called for tearing down rundown neighborhoods and constructing low income housing. Later, the nation s leaders would create a new cabinet position, Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to aid in improving conditions in the inner city. Although dilapidated areas were razed, parking lots, shopping centers, highways, parks, and factories were constructed on some of the cleared land, and there was seldom enough new housing built to accommodate all the displaced ... • 3. Remote Minehunting System ( Rms ) Of Littoral Combat Ship This paper examines Remote Minehunting System (RMS) of Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) in detail. LCS is a fast platform designed for executing operations in near shore environments. But, it is capable of conducting open ocean operation as well. It is designed to defeat asymmetric threats. Mines, submarines and fast surface craft can be shown as unique examples of asymmetric threats. The LCS, which is a fast, maneuverable surface ship, provides warfighting capabilities for tasks/missions including mine warfare, anti submarine warfare (ASW) and anti surface warfare (ASUW). The RMS, which will be deployed on LCS, is a component of the LCS Mine Countermeasures (MCM) mission package (MP). The mission package is called the Remote Minehunting System. The system uses the Remote Multimission Vehicle (RMMV). The RMMV vehicle is produced by Lockheed Martin. It conducts autonomous and/or semi autonomous missions. It also carries AQS 20A minehunting sonar. The sonar attached to RMMV is specifically designed for a variable depth forward looking and side scanning under sea. Raytheon makes the AQS 20As. The RMS detects, classifies, and localizes non buried bottom and moored mines. It also identifies shallow water bottom mines. U.S. Navy plans to keep its ships out of the dangerous minefield with the RMS. Navy focuses on decreasing core crew for mine warfare while conducting mine hunting operations as well. Navy envisions that this concept with RMS on LCS will prove a significant force ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two primary missions of the 176th Wing are airlift and search and rescue (to include civil search and rescue). This includes federal missions as well as state missions. My organization does not seek a profit but we do have competitors for our airlift and search and rescue capabilities. According to Grant and Jordan (2012), an industry should focus on strategic management and focus on the competition and the goal of having a competitive advantage. The 176th Wing s internal resources and capabilities allow us to be different from our civilian and military competitors within the state concerning civil search and rescue (Grant Jordan, 2012). Our key competitors are the State of Alaska and the Coast Guard in the state. 176th Wing Strategy and How it was Developed The strategy of the 176th Wing is to work with internal and external partners to increase our Arctic representation, emergency management response, engagement in Alaskan rural communities, and to continue to perform multiple federal and state missions. The strategy of the 176th Wing is set by the Governor of Alaska through The Adjutant General and the Wing Commander. The strategy of the 176th Wing is unique primarily based on our location and our EXTERNAL/INTERNAL ANALYSIS 3 mission sets. The sculpture is from the Henan province, located in northern China, made in the Ming dynasty, dated AD 1486. Although the architectural design and surrounding did not attest to much artistic creativity, the actual concert was better than my expectations. I did have lower expectations because it was presented by students instead of professional musicians or dancers as in my last concert review. The ensemble, a collaborative outcome from MSU Denver and other dance/cultural music groups from denver, was actually a mix of African and Indian/East Asian music and dance. The two teams alternated between each other giving the audience a great deal of contrast of movement and sound. My favorite were the second and fifth performances, African and Indian respectively. I liked how they used the same movements when they were describing the story before starting their performance which they later used during the dance. For example, one of the dancers showed the same throwing movement which she later used in the performance. The dance was accompanied by an Indian chant like song over the speakers. It had the same simplistic nature as the African music discussed above which I again noticed that it put the focus on the dancers. The Snows Of Kilimanjaro And The Big Two Hearted River This research paper will analyze style and theme in two of Ernest Hemingway s short stories, The Snows of Kilimanjaro and The Big Two Hearted River, and two novels, The Sun Also Rises and Green Hills of Africa.1 The Snows of Kilimanjaro is about an author named Harry, who is lying on the African plain and dying of gangrene. The Big Two Hearted River is about an ex World War I soldier, Nick, who is trying to put his life back together after the war. Similarly, The Sun Also Rises involves an ex soldier who is coping with a personal injury and seeks love with a woman named Brett Ashley. Lastly, Green Hills of Africa, is a non fiction story about Hemingway hunting in Africa. Hemingway visited Africa in 1923. This is the only book that is completely autobiographical. In the four works reviewed, Ernest Hemingway has two themes, one about the self and another about his interpretation of a hero, and uses several techniques such as symbolism, first person narrative, and ambiguity that define his style of writing. Analysis of all of Hemingway s prose reveals many themes. Two themes though stand out in the four works reviewed for this paper. One of them is that the main character (usually the hero) must assert the self, has a fear of failure, and attacks those things which threaten the successful assertion of the self. The alternative to being a bully is an effective member of society. If a child has the right friend group they will be less inclined to be involved in negative behavior. By right friend group this means, supportive in nature. Those who are not the alternative are unfortunate in the matter that they become the victim of bullying. Overweight and obese children are often bullied. As well as, anxious, socially withdrawn, and aggressive children are often found to be the victims of bullying. The reasons behind these characteristics being common amongst victims is because those who are anxious or socially withdrawn are not likely to fight back or retaliate if bullied. This review and evolution process is repeated as many times as needed, until the final Formal Spec is produced, or the SRS. Then programming can begin. The process of writing a requirements specification usually requires frequent communications between the developer and the client, keeping the structure of the specification clear and the statements or expressions used readable is therefore crucial (Lui et al.). Consequences and Time Spent The reason that a SRS is needed should be rather obvious; if the requirements aren t written down, how do the software engineers know what to program, and how does the client know what to expect? (Berezin) However, the SRS is often times skipped, or written at a very high level, lacking enough detail. Taking the user requirements and writing them into specifications is considered to be one of the most difficult steps in software development, and therefore engineers frequently attempt to bypass this step. It is also very time consuming are the engineers wasting their time writing the SRS when they should be programming? In discussing this with Cheryl Lindauer, the Corporate Development Manager at Shoe Carnival, the answer is an outstanding NO! The best investment any company can make is to write detailed SRS documents for every project, before beginning any coding. If we are in a time crunch and skip the SRS document, ... One of the major disadvantages about text speak is that since it is not standard, there are no single spelling for some words and as different people have different texting styles, one might misunderstand the message and feel offended due to this misinterpretation. Gestational sac measurement : Mean sac diameter (MSD) is measured using the sum of three orthogonal dimensions of the fluid sac wall interface divided by three. Gestational sac is first visualized by transabdominal sonography at 5 weeks. MSD increases at the rate of 1mm/day in early gestation. At 5.5 weeks a yolk sac appears. At six weeks an embryo first appears adjacent to the yolk sac.(11) 2. Crown Rump length (CRL) : Once the embryo can be visualized, the measurement of choice for estimation of menstrual age becomes the crown rump length. • 31. On The Roof Of The World By Sir Charles G. D. Roberts 1) I believe that there are many ways that the author has chosen to set up a man and animal as competitors in the story On The Roof Of The World by Sir Charles G. D. Roberts. One of the reasons that the author has set up a man and an animal as competitors is that unlike normal circumstances where mankind is on top of the food chain, higher that every other living thing known. In this short story, the man and the polar bear are on approximately the same level of the food chain. As the bear is equipped with claws, the man evens himself out with the spear he had fashioned himself. The author seems write this to portray his question of, is humankind more superior to other living species when having to live in almost the exact same conditions in which the animals live in? Another way it thinks that the author has set up a man and an animal as competitors is to show how similar things a human would do like an animal if put in such a situation such as high winds, predators, and a constant danger of frostbite, a human would only care about three things, food, shelter and water like an animal. With the only source of food, a human would resort to savage ways so similar to the ways of a polar bear as the story states, without an instant s hesitation the man hurled his spear (p. 164) and when with a growl of rage, the bear tore it loose and charged upon the man (p. 164). Proponents of technology during both eras, says Noble, argued that technological advancement was an essential, unstoppable force that would be inherently beneficial to humanity. Noble s counter argument looks at the human costs of unchecked technological growth, along the way re examining and redefining the meaning of Luddism. He demonstrates how several alternate techniques actually had better results more quickly that the NC (Numeric Control) machining which eventually came to dominate the industries, and in fact the NC machines were often slower for a significant period of years. So why was there so much investment in the less efficient machines? Simple: the owners paid the R D costs, and the owners were more concerned about control that about pure efficiency or quality. NC machines held the promise of being able(eventually) to manufacture high quality goods WITHOUT SKILLED LABOR (precisely like the looms that the Luddites objected to). If you depend upon skilled workers, those workers have some control, most obviously because they can t be easily replaced. If the workers are minimally skilled, they can be more easily replaced, hence the owners have more control. Is there anything in common between the age of automation now upon us and the first industrial revolution long ago (circa 1790 1840)? Yes. Both claimed that technological progress was inevitable and would automatically put things right. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theme Of Mangoes On The Maple Tree Asserting the Diasporic Identity in Uma Parameswaran s Oeuvre Amrutha T V Guest Faculty Sreekrishna College, Guruvayur ABSTRACT: Uma Parameswaran is a versatile writer critic who has attempted to capture the trauma and dilemma of the diasporic self. Drawing on her first hand knowledge of the white collar, professional and academic diaspora in Canada, she attempts to voice their dilemmas and confusions, and above all, their feeling of rootlessness, their fear that having been uprooted once, they will never again be able to take root anywhere, despite their best efforts. The angst of the diaspora, striving to retain their identity even as they struggle to assimilate and become one of them , forms the core of Uma Parameswaran s oeuvre. She ... In the novel Mangoes on the Maple Tree, the flooding of the Red and the Assiniboine that threatens the peaceful life of Winnipeg, brings the community together and removes barriers in an unprecedented way. Jayant is one of the young men who work tirelessly, shoulder to shoulder with the others, to sandbag the river and divert the floodwaters. The waters of the river that threatens brown and white alike, and endangers harmony, may perhaps be seen as a levelling and unifying force, and thus becomes as sacred to the immigrant consciousness as the Ganga. The play Dear Deedi My Sister concludes with the extract from Sapna s letter to her Deedi in India, We must build our temple here, where the Assiniboine flows into the Red. And we shall bring Ganga, as Bhagirata did of old, to our land, our Assiniboine, and here shall be groves where Uma shall dance with Parameswara (Sons 73). Thus we have Parameswaran playing on the mythological overtones of her own name to reinforce her notion of a unique diasporic Canadian identity, forged by those who have crossed the oceans, carrying their own baggage of myths and beliefs, and confidently asserting their selfhood in a new land. Diction and contrasting imagery are really important because they are what readers react and connect to. The Flowers , a short story by Alice Walker, is a great example of diction at play. This short story uses contrasting imagery and diction to develop and show meaning in the work. Seeing the dead man changed the way she saw life. Instead of grazing fields and golden surprises, she now saw an empty man with large, broken, white teeth, rotted clothes, and his head spinning restlessly in the breeze. The word choice and imagery chosen to describe this scene conveyed meaning to The Flowers because it revealed that Myop s character was now experiencing a loss of innocence and that the happy and pleasant moments were completely gone. The description and imagery used to describe the guy illustrates a horrific scene in the readers mind and conveys that the story had just experienced a plot twist from peaceful times to depressing and somber moments. John Donne s The Flea was a metaphysical poem, written most probably, to entertain an audience of men; this was called a coterie, which was a group of like minded individuals who cleverly wrote for each other s amusement. This will obviously offend the girl because virginity is a very important gift that a woman has to bestow on a man. But the poet does not seem to give up on this point. The poet uses cunning phrases such as: Thou know st that this cannot be said A sin, nor shame, nor loss of maidenhead; Which make me feel that he is lulling her into a sense of false security.
