Technology Learning And Teaching Language
Technology in learning and teaching language
Introduction
The innovation of communication technology has had a major impact on teaching language and how it
is learnt, causing a major paradigm shift in authorship and how language is disseminated in a
community. This paper will critique the important issue on how language is related to technology and
these are the status of what is referred to as CALL (Computer assisted learning language), its cultural
influence, its effectiveness and theoretic overview. Additional to this, the paper will analyse the
findings of electronic literacy, research on how the technology in learning and teaching can have an
impact on the essence of teachers, and electronic telecommunication and tele collaboration.
Computer Assisted Learning Language (CALL)
According to Kern (2006), technology intensively changes and extends the levels and the breadth of
exposure that students and any other categories of learners can get in terms of a targeted language. As
a result, All approach of second language acquisition theorize on the essence of changes in the input of
technological changes in languages and the effect of learner s acquisition may have on the language
(Thomas and Reinders, 2010:47).
The article analyses two approaches of CALL, one that was formulated in 1997 and the other one in
2005.The one in 1997 holds that CALL can be defined as the study and the search for the use of
computer applications in the process of learning and the acquisition of

Compare and Contrast the Economic Policies of Stalin and Mao.
Compare and contrast the economic policies of Stalin and Mao.
In Russia and China, both Stalin and Mao emerged as almost god like leaders despite making their
respective countries endure harsh programs of reform all economically, politically and socially. Mao
can be seen to have adopted the policies of Stalin, both inspired by the Marxist ideologies of Lenin.
Both Stalin and Mao recognized the economic backwardness of their respective countries and wanted
to use industrialization and collectivisation as the primary means of increasing their economies.
Although the original plans were very similar, the actual undertaking of the plans in addition to the
results and how it helped consolidate both leaders may slightly vary. Comparing and ... Show more

Farmers had to grow crops but also had to work to produce steel and iron in addition to infrastructure
projects. This policy led to deaths of millions of Chinese peasants and what came to be known as the
biggest famine in history. This was a huge failure for Mao, and threw off his position as leader.
Viewing both the leaders policies, solely on the basis of economic success, it can be said that Stalin s
policies were somewhat successful as Stalin took a backward country and turned it into a massive
urban working class with most of the country being electrified, which was not available before. In
addition, the policy of collectivisation fulfilled its goals as peasants were now paid wages and land
and machinery was collectively owned. Looking at the human cost of the policies, both
industrialization and collectivisation were hard on the population, creating poor working conditions
and famines throughout the nation. Stalin had also maintained his power throughout all of his
economic policies, unlike Mao who after the Great Leap Forward had to re establish himself through
the Cultural Revolutions. Despite Mao s fall, his economic policies were also to some extent,
successful as more than half of China became irrigated and the railway network virtually doubled. In
addition, Mao s reforms motivated the common people to work together and embody a Communist
worker, whereas Stalin s reforms produced Stakhovanites .

Reflection Essay On Football
At one point we despised each other. We acted and thought he same things yet, hearing the other talk
just irritated us. Everything I was interested in, he was interested in; and so we became very
competitive. Furthermore, in high school we began practicing with each other just to compete. We
studied together just to see who would understand the lesson better. We went to leadership and
military trainings together just to push to be the better cadet in the Civil Air Patrol. This competitive
spirit sparked the growth out of one of the most valuable and powerful relationships of my life.
Lawrence Barrett was small indonesian kid, barely 5 4 . Since he has had the choice, he has always
had a buzz cut but he kept the top long enough to see his awkward swirl on his hairline. He had
always looked like he never hit puberty yet, and I definitely let him now that. He was very athletically

almost unbelievable as he is a great swimmer and an even faster swimmer and biker. He could run a
mile in 4 minutes and 12 seconds but even after I would even show him his time on the stopwatch, he
wouldn t believe me! He is definitely one to be passive on his accomplishments. I believe it has
something to do with him never feeling content with himself. See Lawrence grew up in what many

Head Coach Research Paper
In June, Blair students, Tys, Jacob, Clio, Aya, and I went to Williams College for the Squash And
Beyond summer camp. The camp was run by the head squash coach at Williams, Zafi. About forty
four squash players attended this camp, along with three head coaches, one track coach, and three
current player coaches. The player coaches consisted of Darius Campbell, former Blair student and
currently number three at Bates, Mario Yanez, currently number one at Rochester, and Chris Gordon,
current pro, and number forty five in the world. The head coaches were Mr. Moore, our own Blair
coach, Zafi, the current head coach of williams, and Adam. These coaches helped us with many
aspects of the game. On the first day of camp, the coaches put us into groups based on our squash
skills. There were four groups, ranging from one, which was for the players at the most experienced ...

Every night Zafi organized a fun activity for the campers, ranging from competitions to social events.
The first night, the campers were split up into four groups, and throughout the week activities were
done in these groups. Our first activity was a volleyball tournament. The next day we all went
kayaking in the Deerfield River, playing with super soaker water guns and traversing five miles of
river. The next night was dodgeball night, and the following night was soccer. The final day of the
camp, the campers all played squash matches against each other. The teams for the matches were the
same teams that were assigned to us for the activities, and we were ranked based on our abilities. The
team led by Mario came out victorious, each team member being awarded a Dunlop hat. The Squash

Sigmund Freud s The Uncanny
In The Uncanny Sigmund Freud describes the uncanny, explaining it as that class of frightening which
leads back to what is old and long familiar (825) In order to adequately describe exactly how
something which is old and long familiar becomes frightening he uses the German word Heimlich ,
which essentially means homelike. In direct contrast with Heimlich, exists the word unheimlich,
which can be understood as something that is the opposite of homelike. Freud describes unheimlich as
something which should have remained secret but has come to light. While there are a great many
things that are able to make us feel this uncanny feeling, according to Freud they are all rooted in the
same place that of our repressed memories. Individual repressed ... Show more content on

The most chilling part of this film existed surely in the 1950s and today. Today it is the timelessness of
it that is uncanny, that eventually the pods got almost everyone. It didn t matter who you were or what
kind of person you are, this deeply repressed fear that we could all become mindless automatons
exists, and seeing it represented is deeply disturbing. The uncanny effect exists in several places in this
film; the uncanny feeling from seeing someone who looks exactly like you emerge from a pod, the
uncanny feeling of knowing something about someone you know is off but you just can t seem to put
your finger on it, and when the whole town is essentially comprised of pod people that seem so close
to the real thing it is nearly impossible to detect. This film has so many layers of uncanny, at points it
is almost difficult to put your finger on exactly what it is that is creating the feeling in the first place.
This film becomes a representation of our culturally repressed fears, the uncanny feeling from not
knowing whether something is a human or an automaton, and through the involvement of aliens

Art of Public Speaking
Lucas: The Art of Public Speaking, 8/e PREFACE If it is true, as Walter Pater said, that a book, like a
person, has its fortunes, then fortune has indeed smiled upon The Art of Public Speaking. As the book
enters its eighth edition, I am deeply appreciative of the students and teachers who have made it the
leading work on its subject at colleges and universities across the United States. In preparing this
edition, I have retained what readers have identified as the main strengths of previous editions. The
book continues to be informed by classical and contemporary theories of rhetoric but does not present
theory for its own sake. Keeping a steady eye on the practical skills of public speaking, it offers full
coverage of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much more than a manner of winning friends and influencing people, it is a vital mode of civic
engagement through which people express their ideas and influence their society. I have rewritten the
opening pages of Chapter 1 to make this point more explicitly than in previous editions partly through
the addition of a new section titled The Tradition of Public Speaking, and partly through the reworking
of existing material. This new emphasis seeks to provide a sharper intellectual foundation for the book
and for the public speaking course in general. Plagiarism and the Internet When it comes to
plagiarism, no subject causes more confusion or more temptation than the Internet. Because it is so
easy to copy information from the Web, many students do not understand the lines between plagiarism
and the legitimate use of Internet materials. Nor are they necessarily aware of the need to cite sources
when using such materials. To address these concerns, I have added a new section to Chapter 2 titled
Plagiarism and the Internet. In addition to explaining how to avoid inadvertent plagiarism when
working with the Internet, this section addresses the problem of websites that sell complete speeches
and papers. Here, as elsewhere in the book, I emphasize the importance of firm ethical standards in

In C.S.Lewis s work The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe he manages to use all seven archetypes

There are several mentors in the story, Asland all of which are mentors to the kids. Aslan helps the
kids understand who the are and helps them really grow up and develop as characters. One instance in
specific is when the wolf had the girls treed, he told his men not to kill the wolf the battle was for
Peter. Another mentor was the badger, without him and his wife the kids would have never made it to
the army s camp. Not only did they get them to the camp the told them of the proficy and helped

The Jewish Self Identity Essay
Mary Margaret Hyer
Professor Melvin Arrington
Honors 101
11 December 2014
The Jewish Self Identity Throughout history, there has not been a more persecuted ethnoreligious
group than the Jews; examples of their persecution can be traced back to Biblical times. Because of
their mistreatment by other ethnic and religious groups, the Jewish people have formed a self identity
that is unlike any other cultural group in this world. There are three components that make up the
Jewish self identity: antisemitism and its effects, the image of the self hating Jew, often a result of
antisemitism, and the events and repercussions of the Holocaust. Some scholars would argue that
antisemitism is a result of the New Testament s portrayal of the Jewish people as the reason for Christ
s crucifixion. In fact, in the Gospel of Acts, the Bible blatantly states, The people of Jerusalem and
their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in condemning him they fulfilled the words of the prophets
that are read every Sabbath. Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked
Pilate to have him executed (Acts 13:27 28). The term Jewish decide , an idea that states that the
Jewish people as a whole are responsible for the death of Christ, was coined as an act of antisemitism;
this decide term was often expressed as the ethnoreligious slur, Christ killer. Antisemitism has evolved
over time, and its development has been categorized into six stages: (1) Pre Christian

B. Catalysis occurs on a specific site on the enzyme (the active site). The active site is usually less
than 5% of the surface area of the protein, and is always in a cleft. The rest of the molecule serves to
present the active site in a three dimensional structure that is capable of binding substrate and
catalyzing the reaction. Binding to a substrate is very specific, and involves ionic interactions, H
bonds and van der Waals forces. C. Only amino acids with polar side chains participate directly in
catalysis (Cys, His, Ser, Asp, Glu and Lys). Some reactions require electron acceptors, and since no
side chains are good electron acceptors coenzymes and cofactors are required for catalysis of some
reactions. D. Enzymes catalyze reactions by several means: â–ª by orienting the substrate molecules. â–ª
by increasing the effective concentration of the substrate. â–ª by acid base catalysis â–ª by covalent
catalysis â–ª by using the energy of substrate binding to promote the enzyme catalyzed reaction.
III. Criteria For Establishing The Presence Of Enzymes
Since most of the known biological catalysts are proteins two criteria are generally used for
establishing the existence of enzymes. The first is that the rate of a reaction in the presence of an
enzyme is greater than the rate in its absence. Because the uncatalyzed rates of most biologically
important reactions are effectively zero, the mere

Evil-Revivalist Concept Of Evil
Philosophers have debated what evil is since the beginning of philosophy. Is evil an innate
characteristic in some people, or is evil simply a blanket term used to describe actions caused by
outside influences, e.g. upbringing, circumstance, or mental illness? What is the nature of evil? There
are two main sects of opinion for philosophers when it comes to evil: evil skeptics and evil revivalists
(Calder). Evil skeptics believe that we should abandon the concept of evil. Evil skeptics are of the
opinion that the concept of evil is problematic and should be abandoned, while other moral concepts,
such as right, wrong, good, and bad, are necessary. On the other hand, evil revivalists believe that the
concept of evil has a place in society. Evil skeptics have three main points in why the concept of evil
should be abandoned, as Todd Calder illustrates in The Concept of Evil : Evil skeptics give three main
reasons to abandon the concept of evil: (1) the concept of evil involves unwarranted metaphysical
commitments to dark spirits, the supernatural, or the devil; (2) the concept of evil is useless because it
lacks explanatory power; and (3) the concept of evil can be harmful or dangerous when used in moral,
political, and legal contexts, and so, it should not be used in those contexts, if at all. (Calder) Prior to
WWII, there was very little philosophical literature pertaining to the concept of evil; however,
philosophers have considered the nature and origins of evil in the broad sense since ancient times
(Calder). One theory on the origin of evil is called Manichaean dualism. As Calder describes in The
Concept of Evil : According to Manichaean dualism, the universe is the product of an ongoing battle
between two coequal and coeternal first principles: God and the Prince of Darkness...The Manichaean
solution to the problem of evil is that God is neither all powerful nor the sole creator of the world. God
is supremely good and creates only good things, but he or she is powerless to prevent the Prince of
Darkness from creating evil. (Calder) One main problem with Manichaean dualism is that, for a theist,
it is hard to accept the concept that God is not the all powerful creator he is thought to be. For that

The Merger Of Sundown And Master Corporation
Introduction
Organizational Learning is continuous process of transferring knowledge within an organization. It
requires the organization to effectively detect inefficiencies and to respond by correcting any issues.
Organizational Learning is not defined by training classes, it is multi faceted way of operating. This
paper will outline how the merging of Sundown and Master Corporation can be integrated to the new
organizational culture of the merger.
The merger of Sundown and Master requires that the two organizations become a cohesive and
efficient organization. Applying basic principles of organizational learning should help assist in
fostering an environment of continuous systems thinking. We will examine how the two organizations
can apply the principles of organizational learning to help create sustained success.
Topic / Issue Identification The Sundown organization is the manufacturer of gimbals, which are high
quality camera mounts. The Master organization is an international electronics corporation. Master has
recently acquired Sundown. Along with Sundown, Master also owns a separate gimbal manufacturing
plant about 20 miles from the Sundown manufacturing plant. That plant is currently not meeting their
financial goals. Therefore, Master wants to merge the two organizations. The Master organization and
the Sundown organization have large variance in organizational culture. Sundown is a family owned
and operated and the executive management positions are filled by

Media Activism And The UMM No DAPL Social Media Campaign
Media Activism and the UMM No DAPL Social Media Campaign
Media activism is using media and communication skills, mostly through technology, for social and/or
political movements. With the advancement of technology resulting in social media formats, media
activism has become more widespread. The rise of media activism in the world has resulted in media
activism becoming a type of public relations format. While there may seem to be differences in the
two, one can see the similarity in techniques used and bases of goals that are trying to be obtained.
This has made for a more open connection of the people then mass media but in doing so has lost

minutes or less to make the audience more willing to check the video out and stay watching till the
end. As the topics in media activism are more political or social in nature, the information could be a
turnoff for some people and the shortness of the videos combatted this through. Another was
formating the personal stories. For those we did big word headlines at the bottom and top of the video
to be eye catching. Media activism video materials tend to have this a lot as the words hold key terms
that either grab attention through what s this? or shock through what happened? to their audience. This
isn t seen in mass media as their corporate name will grab attention. On the articles the pictures were

How Does George Orwell Use Propaganda In Animal Farm
Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an allegoric novel based on the history of the Soviet Union and
the Russian Revolution (1917 to 1944) disguised as an animal fable. Orwell draws his audience into a
utopian, metaphorical history novel through his animal characters. Squealer represents intelligence
and education; Napoleon represents propaganda and duplicity; The dogs to represent violence and
terror as a means of control; and finally Boxer represents apathy and acceptance. Throughout each of

Policy Recommendations for Stetson University
There are currently no demonstration policies in place, which make students who protest vulnerable to
violations. In the Stetson Code of Community Standards, disorderly conduct is defined as any
behavior which disrupts the orderly conduct, processes, and functions of the university, or infringes on
the rights of others normal activities and any act that aids, abets, or procures another person to breach
the peace of the University premise or at a University sponsored event. I would like to see a clause

So, students may not be aware of what they can distribute on campus and what they cannot. I believe
Georgetown University literature policy serves as a notable example of a literature clause that would
be beneficial at Stetson University. They state that, Handbills, pamphlets, flyers and quarter sheets
may be distributed to any location on campus except classrooms or offices in use. When handbill
distribution is associated with a particular event, whether indoor or outdoor, the location of indoor
handbill distribution may be restricted on occasion to preserve safety and security at events and
convocation, but distribution in these cases may not be wholly prevented or unnecessarily restricted.
This policy and information is designed to assist individuals and groups in the Georgetown University
community in effectively sharing information with the rest of campus in respectful and creative ways.
(Georgetown.edu).
Stetson University also lack Political Activity policies. Our school does not explicitly state in our code
of community standards what we are politically allowed to. I provided the link to one that I think is a
good example of this, but it is too long for me to just copy and paste.

The Theme Of Environmentalism In Frank Herbert s Dune
In undoubtedly one of the grandest science fiction epics of all time, Frank Herbert s Dune focuses on a
stunning blend of politics, environmentalism, adventure, and mysticism. Recipient of the Nebula
Award and Hugo Award, Dune explores the effects of a changing global climate most prominently.
The role of science fiction isn t so much to predict the future, rather than to astound the audience with
its possible leading avenues. Dune has a sparse ecosystem and Herbert explores for instance how the
limitation of water would transform the planetary ecology and possible sustenance for human life.
Thus Dune, stands as an early example that explores environmentalism and ecology, effectively
communicating these novel ideas in the 1960 s to a new and young audience and generation. Herbert
focuses on the untapped human potential of transcending the primary state of living conditions,
however with a plethora of limitations and consequences. Particularly interesting, the novel as a whole
serves as an allegory for the dangers of environmental shortages and damages. Although some may
presume the novel Dune as confusing archaic misfit for a science fiction novel, these romantic critics
are often too dogmatic in their provincial ideologies. Several warnings are presented throughout the
course of the novel on ancient dangers such as the greed of mercantile corporations, the intertwined
complications of religion and politics, conflicts of feudalism, and most prominently ecological
fragility.

The Normal Cellular Location Of The Crusoe1
Assignment Michael Layland C1476301 I1417
Q1: What does the comparison of the supernatant fraction between the experimental and control
samples prove, regarding the normal cellular location of the CRUSOE1? [2 marks]
A1: Triton X 100 is a detergent in laboratory practice and is used to permeabalize unfixed eukaryotic
cell membranes and aids in solubilizing membranous proteins. The addition of the substance Triton X
100 would cause the majority of the cell membranes to become permeable thus allowing contents of
the eukaryotic cell to leave via simple diffusion hence the large concentration of radioactive
prominence to be situated in the supernatant fraction. Again, the detergent property of Triton X 100 is

radioactive sulphur to be situated in fraction 3 of which a majority of small organelles are situated

location of the CRUSOE1 protein to be situated in normal cellular location in organelles of the
previously stated diameter and not it the cytoplasmic structure as the addition of Triton X 100 would

Q2: Professor Holton s team speculate that CRUSOE1 is located predominantly in the Lysosomes of
the cell. Is this a reasonable assumption to make, and why? [4

Roosevelt Corollary to Monroe Doctrine Theodore Roosevelt, often referred to as Teddy was an
American statesman, author,
explorer, soldier, naturalist, and reformer who served as the 26th President of the United States

Roosevelt s annual message, delivered on December fifth 1904, refered to Dominican situation and
briefly sketched the reinterpretation of the Monroe Doctrine that would shortly bear his name (Vesser

Theodore Roosevelt became president after the assassination of President McKinley. He was thought
of as the first modern president because he was the first to get
involved in foreign affairs, with his Big Stick Policy. Other things he did during his president
that are remembered for are his Square deal, Hay Pauncefote treaty, his corollary to the Monroe
Doctrine, and his trust busting. The Big Stick Policy came upon after Roosevelt said that his
motto was to speak softly and carry a big stick. The press gave his foreign policy the name
(The Big Stick Policy). Roosevelt warned Chronic wrongdoing, or an impotence which results in a
general loosening of the ties of civilized society, may in America, as elsewhere, ultimately require
intervention by some civilized nation (veeser 314). Roosevelt acted boldly and decisively in several
occasions in
his attempt to get the reputation that the US is a world power. Imperialists liked his policy, but
there were still critics that disliked the policy and favored noninvolvement in global politics.
The Square Deal came upon after Roosevelt s first economic crisis. He demonstrated that he
favored neither business nor labor but insisted on a square deal

Project Management Training Program Project
Project Management Training Project management has been defined as the process that involves the
application of different processes, methods, knowledge, experience and skills for purposes of
achieving the objectives of the project. On the other hand, a project is always defined as a unique and
a transient endeavor that is undertaken to achieve an organization s planned goals that could be
defined on the basis of outputs and benefits. The process of managing a project entails the
development of an effective project plan, a process that entails the definition as well as the
confirmation of the project goals and objectives. The plan also gives a clear outline of how the project
objectives will be achieved, identification of the tasks as well as the quantification of all the needed
resources. The plan also plays an important role in developing an appropriate budget for the project as
well as the most appropriate timeline that will be taken to complete the project being carried out. The
process of project management also includes a statement of the most effective ways of implementing
the project plan along with the best controls that will ensure that the objectives of the organization are
met effectively and efficiently. It is thus important for organizations to have effective project
management plans so that their operations are flawless as well as having most of those involved to
take their places at the most appropriate time. For this to happen, the process of project

Analysis and comparisons of several water supply alternatives for North west China
Introduction:
The world s semi arid and arid regions are located mainly in North Africa, the Middle East, as well as
South Asia. There are also isolated arid areas in Australia, parts of South America and the southern
part of North America (Clarke, 1991, p.13). In this report, the problems of arid regions in China will
be studied and analysed. The reasons for choosing China as a research target are because the rapid
development of industries in China, has led to increasingly serious issues of climate conditions.
Overall, the arid and semi arid regions in China are getting bigger as time moves on. According to a
report (Milker), the arid rangeland of China ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dams not only preserve water for future use but also can be used as power stations and there are other
benefits (such as flood control, irrigation, electrical generation etc.) (FEMA). However, building dams
involves massive financial investment from government and also a lot of displacement can occur. As a
result, the cost of building dams is very high as it needs massive manpower and compensation for
displacing families. Taking a dam (on Grand Coulee, Columbia river) built between USA and Canada
as an example, it cost £6.5bn, it has a height of 170 metres, forming a 260 square kilometre reservoir
(The guardian). 96000 people were forced to be resettled and there was a loss of some fish species.
Most Indian inhabitants were not compensated for 45 years which caused a very bad feeling between
government and citizens. As for the benefits, 1,400 farms have been irrigated; there is a big water
source for industry and urban areas. Furthermore, huge profits have been made from hydroelectricity,
which has a capacity of 6,809 megawatts of power. Overall, precise plans and calculations should be
done before making the decision to build a dam.
2. Desalination
Desalination refers to various types of technical processes; the aim is to remove salts from seawater
(Banat). In these processes, a series of very highly technical equipment will be required, which means

Animals And Its Effects On A Terrestrial Environment
One of the following challenges that various animals adapted to from a water dominant environment
to a terrestrial environment is that they protected themselves from drying out. In order to carry this
adaptation out and avoid desiccation (a process where organisms lose water to the air), plants
developed the adaptation of cuticle; a waxy and protective surface layer that is secreted around the
exposed surfaces of a plant. This surface is relatively impermeable which essentially helps avoid water
loss from taking place in the plant. Additionally, it prevents them from acquiring different types of
bacteria and viruses. Another structure that was adapted to prevent water loss was the stomata, which
allows water to diffuse out of the plant when it closes. This adaptation is essential because plants need
water to go through photosynthesis in order to produce energy. Animals additionally faced the same
challenge as well when evolving onto a terrestrial environment. In order to avoid water loss,
amphibians usually stayed within moist surroundings since they needed their skin to be wet, so that
oxygen can pass through their skin and help them breathe. They didn t possess any adaptations
capable of letting them survive in a dry land environment due to the reliance of their moist skin
needed to perform vital life functions. However, reptiles evolved overcame this challenge with the dry,
watertight skin they developed. This adaptation significantly reduced the amount of water

The Death of Ivan Ilych Essay
Psychological Importance in The Death of Ivan Illych
In The Death of Ivan Ilych Leo Tolstoy conveys the psychological importance of the last, pivotal
scene through the use of diction, symbolism, irony. As Ivan Ilych suffers through his last moments on
earth, Tolstoy narrates this man s struggle to evolve and to ultimately realize his life was not perfect.
Using symbols Tolstoy creates a vivid image pertaining to a topic few people can even start to
comprehend the reexamination of one s life while on the brink of death. In using symbols and irony
Tolstoy vividly conveys the manner in which Ilych views death as darkness unto his last moments of
life when he finally admits imperfection.
In the first paragraph of the ending chapter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tolstoy also employs irony as he examines the plight of Ivan Ilych. This highlights the differences
between Ilych s perception of his own life and reality while also allowing the reader to take part in
some of the tearing anguish Ivan feels in having to submit to the wrongdoings in his life. Tolstoy
compares Ivan Ilych s struggle to the plight of a man condemned to death as he struggles in the hands
of an executioner (61). Ivan Ilych does not see death as a natural process, but as a punishment
controlled by a merciless executioner, ironically much like the merciless judge he once was. Ivan
Ilych s feels that death is an undeserved punishment because he never considered his own mortality.
His obsession with social adroitness made mortality feel like a punishment, and his justification of this
obsession made it impossible for him to let go of his life. Ivan Ilych believed he had lived his life up
to social standards and because of this he would not have to endure the terrible agony of death that is
beset among ordinary people. In reality he was blind to his shallow life and the transgressions he
made. Tolstoy uses vivid imagery to describe Ivan Ilych s struggle to submit to his life s end. For
example, Tolstoy describes Ivan as feeling as though he is struggling to get inside of a hole. The
darkness in the hole obstructs Ivan s ability to get in, and he is unable to get past

The Working Poor Analysis
The society is in such a way that it falls into categories of people who belong to different social
classes and this creates a difference in the way individuals lead their lifestyle, and in the way
individuals interact with each other. The working poor refer to a social group which develops as a
result of the social inequalities which exist in the society. The population comprises of individuals
who put a lot of effort in their activities but still fail to witness growth and development in their socio
economic being. It is normally wrong to categorize such persons as being lazy, and instead, one may
argue that nature dictates the fate of these beings.
The essay provides vital information about the social distinctions in the society but readers may
disagree with the idea that the working poor may never get the opportunity to advance their lives,
regardless of the effort they put. It is only right to argue that the working poor remain in the
impoverished condition because their undertakings do not generate enough income to help them get
out of the unfriendly situation. The working poor, however, may emerge to be ... Show more content

Outsourcing Ethics
As companies look for ways to strategically perform better in their respective industries many chose to
outsource job functions. Outsourcing allows companies to grow and expand their business around the
world. Many have attributed outsourcing to lowering operating costs, a method to increase expertise
and gain additional technology, and as a way to improve efficiency and services. These advantages can
help a company gain a competitive advantage over industry participants. When a company
strategically plans to outsource ethical consideration must be acknowledged; especially when
outsourcing is offshore. As a display of corporate citizenship a company must do their part to address
ethical concerns related to this practice. Building a long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would show compassion to the employees of outsourced locations by acknowledging their
relationship based cultures, those related to their families, ancestors, and communities. This helps
build a trusting relationship and the quality of the service will increase as employees know that you
care and don t just view them as workers. Often time companies find themselves under strict
regulations and scrutiny when they have misappropriated those regulations. Some companies have
opted to outsource to avoid environmental regulations and fines in many locations. Another basic
principle advises companies that plan to outsource to seek to do no harm to the ecological systems of
the world regardless of what environmental regulations may not be in place in the location of choice
for outsourcing. By making ethical choices as such help to build and protect the company s image. It
shows that they have good character in the decision that they make and how they impact the
environment. Companies receive backlash from choosing to outsource job functions when it causes a
reduction in their workforce from layoffs. It can be hard to justify layoffs in turn for cheaper labor
when you are removing individuals from the workforce who have been loyal and dedicated to the
company. Addressing potential unethical behaviors related to outsourcing before they are problematic
is a way to protect the company and build a

The Clash Of The Titans
THE CLASH OF THE TITANS
The War of 1812 The War of 1812 began as a result of a long fought war between Great Britain and
French forces led by Napoleon Bonaparte, that eventually infringed upon many of America s rights.
France and Great Britain had been fighting since 1793. Napoleon was a very powerful and determined
emperor who conquered much of Europe during the 19th century. The Royal Navy was very skilled at
naval combat and France had a strong and capable leader that was very skilled in war tactics. The
United States wanted the trade from both countries so it stayed neutral during the war. However, the
U.S. became a more active participant due to forced trade sanctions and Britain s impressment of
American seamen. The war is known as the War of 1812 because that is the year that America
declared war on Great Britain, but the war was actually started approximately three years earlier when
tensions between the Americans and the Indians escalated over westward territory expansion. Indian
problems, trade sanctions, impressment all fueled the start of the War of 1812. The Americans took a
neutral stance in this war and traded with both sides, Great Britain and France. Great Britain and
France both tried to stop the trade between the Americans and the other party, however, Great Britain
tried to restrict American trade with France by issuing the Orders in Council Act in 1807. This order
required companies to get a license before trading with France and French

Coming Of Age Model
The movie I ve chosen to display the Coming of Age theme is Beauty the Beast; a classic Disney tale
whose story revolves around a young, middle class book worm named Belle, and a conceited prince
turned monster who is only ever referred to as Beast . I believe this movie perfectly fits into the
Coming of Age model as both of its main characters experience drastic life changes, which turn out to
be valuable learning experiences in the end. On Belle s side of things, a series of unfortunate events in
relation to her father wind her up a prisoner for life to, you guessed it, the Beast. In her so called
imprisonment , Belle captivates the heart of the Beast, along with the other inhabitants of his castle,
and becomes independent as a result of her deficient parental unit. ... Show more content on

Sometimes spending time alone, and away from the ordinary is the best form of emotional therapy.
Moving onto Belle s costar, the Beast, viewers of the film cannot help but see the drastic character
development which occurs. Right from the beginning, the Beast is spoken of very poorly, as a result of
his self righteous attitude toward the world. Due to his unkind behaviour, a witch casts a spell on him,
which morphs him into his monstrous form. His human form would be his to hold again, as long as he
could change his ways, and have someone fall in love with him. The Beast wastes no time in throwing
a fit, and eventually disappears into despair; however, once Belle enters his life, the disgruntled prince
makes an effort to change his ways, if only to earn her affections. Both Belle and the Beast learn from
one another, which I think makes their relationship that much more meaningful. Not only do they fall
in love, but they truly care for the development of one another, and are determined to change
themselves for the better in order to be

Why is the tropical rainforest in crisis and what can be done about it?
The tropical rainforest is located all around the world. For example, the Amazon Rainforest, the
Colombian Rainforest and other small rainforests located in Central America. In 1990, rainforests
were plentiful however until 2010, around an eighth of all the rainforests were cut down. The
rainforest is mostly endangered by human interaction and climate change. Forests are undergoing
deforestation and are changed into non productive forests which are forests that are cut in such a way
they produce minimal trees per year. Also, mining usually occurs in the rainforest which causes
erosion on the trees and its growth. Dams can be found in tropical rainforests which causes flooding.
As stated, there are many reasons why the rainforest is under crisis but one of the ... Show more

percent of light reaches the bottom layer. This means that it will slow the growth of those that need

sunlight. The plants that are lush only need so little light like the Dwarf Palm which is approximately
4 5 metres max. Many of the plants her rely on insects for their food. The understorey is home to
many animals and has the largest amount of insects. Canopy: Second highest layer of the rainforest.
This is the layer that allows only a little sunlight for the Forest Floor and the Understorey. The

Hypocritical Nature Of Claudius s Soliloquy
Upon observation, it seems Claudius soliloquy reveals another perspective to the audience. Instead of
the cold and heartless impressions created by Hamlet, Claudius appears vulnerable and uncertain,
evidently worried about his consequences of the murder of Old Hamlet. However, in truth, this
soliloquy reveals his hypocritical nature as he searches for forgiveness, raising questions concerning
his sincerity of his speech and desires. Firstly, Claudius understands the magnitude of his atrocity,
comparing it to the primal eldest curse (41), which is Cain s murder of Abel. Shakespeare uses this
allusion to embellish the severity of this murder, creating an impression that the murder is comparable
to the first and most unanticipated bloodshed

As per the results of two surveys, I was categorized as a liberal person. I count myself as the supporter

district 16 is from Republican party who tries to expand his conservative philosophy.
One of the issues I stand against is for the right to keep and bear arms. The Republican party supports
the right to keep guns but the Democratic party is against it and so am I. In this issue, my ideas
diverge with the Republican party since it opposes the laws which limit the open use of guns. Even
Don Huffines states that every Texans should have legal rights to possess their fire arms. Republican
party are against the tax regulations of guns and argue to make a strong law for carrying guns as they
believe that it s God given right. However, I am against this action of Don Huffines as it can be more
severe in some contexts. Recently, even in my college Northlake college of Irving, a girl was
murdered by a guy who had gun which happened when I was there. What is the guarantee that such
acts will not be repeated in future? Carrying guns can be easy processes to threaten anyone showing
its power and as an international student, it sometimes scares me. Obviously, by carrying guns and
other arms, one can have personal protection but it s not a wiser decision to

How Does Rick Deckard Create Identity In The Blade Runner
The book Do Androids Dream of Sheep and the movie Blade Runner both focus on the protagonist
Rick Deckard who is assigned to hunt down Androids and retire them. Throughout the book and
movie, he is faced with issues such as questioning his own identity and that of others. Although the
movie adaption did change some of the characters and most of the plot, it still managed to keep some
things similar; most importantly the themes. One of those themes is the difficulty of correctly
assigning an identity to someone, as a person can never be certain of another person s true self. This
can be seen when the androids are given the Voigt Kampff test, how the specials/chicken heads are
classified, and even in Rick Deckard s identity crisis. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the book, Deckard was confident about his profession and what identified him as a
human. For example, he knew he was human because of his desire of having a living animal. After all,
his neighbor Barbour even says that every one of us has an animal of some sort (9). Almost every
character in the book who turned out to be human had some type of animal even if it was fake because
it was one of the only ways other people could identify if they were human or an android. Although
this changed in Deckard when he encountered Luba. When he saw her opera performance he
wondered if his life was just a cycle were he killed machines that were going to be reconstructed again
(92). Later on, when she was killed by the mercilessness Phil Resch, Deckard questioned why he felt
empathy towards her. Resch advised him to sleep with the androids to get rid of those emotions, but
when Deckard did so it did not work. Even at the end after killing all the androids and having a
spiritual encounter with Mercer he is left confused about what his true identity was. However in the
movie Blade Runner it was not him who was going through this crisis but it was Roy. This android
wanted to expand his life because he wanted to be similar to a human. In the beginning, he went as far
as killing people, something that an android would do without hesitation. Although at the end he

  • 2. Technology Learning And Teaching Language Technology in learning and teaching language Introduction The innovation of communication technology has had a major impact on teaching language and how it is learnt, causing a major paradigm shift in authorship and how language is disseminated in a community. This paper will critique the important issue on how language is related to technology and these are the status of what is referred to as CALL (Computer assisted learning language), its cultural influence, its effectiveness and theoretic overview. Additional to this, the paper will analyse the findings of electronic literacy, research on how the technology in learning and teaching can have an impact on the essence of teachers, and electronic telecommunication and tele collaboration. Computer Assisted Learning Language (CALL) According to Kern (2006), technology intensively changes and extends the levels and the breadth of exposure that students and any other categories of learners can get in terms of a targeted language. As a result, All approach of second language acquisition theorize on the essence of changes in the input of technological changes in languages and the effect of learner s acquisition may have on the language (Thomas and Reinders, 2010:47). The article analyses two approaches of CALL, one that was formulated in 1997 and the other one in 2005.The one in 1997 holds that CALL can be defined as the study and the search for the use of computer applications in the process of learning and the acquisition of ... • 3. Compare and Contrast the Economic Policies of Stalin and Mao. Compare and contrast the economic policies of Stalin and Mao. In Russia and China, both Stalin and Mao emerged as almost god like leaders despite making their respective countries endure harsh programs of reform all economically, politically and socially. Mao can be seen to have adopted the policies of Stalin, both inspired by the Marxist ideologies of Lenin. Both Stalin and Mao recognized the economic backwardness of their respective countries and wanted to use industrialization and collectivisation as the primary means of increasing their economies. Although the original plans were very similar, the actual undertaking of the plans in addition to the results and how it helped consolidate both leaders may slightly vary. Comparing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Farmers had to grow crops but also had to work to produce steel and iron in addition to infrastructure projects. This policy led to deaths of millions of Chinese peasants and what came to be known as the biggest famine in history. This was a huge failure for Mao, and threw off his position as leader. Viewing both the leaders policies, solely on the basis of economic success, it can be said that Stalin s policies were somewhat successful as Stalin took a backward country and turned it into a massive urban working class with most of the country being electrified, which was not available before. In addition, the policy of collectivisation fulfilled its goals as peasants were now paid wages and land and machinery was collectively owned. Looking at the human cost of the policies, both industrialization and collectivisation were hard on the population, creating poor working conditions and famines throughout the nation. Stalin had also maintained his power throughout all of his economic policies, unlike Mao who after the Great Leap Forward had to re establish himself through the Cultural Revolutions. Despite Mao s fall, his economic policies were also to some extent, successful as more than half of China became irrigated and the railway network virtually doubled. In addition, Mao s reforms motivated the common people to work together and embody a Communist worker, whereas Stalin s reforms produced Stakhovanites . Stalin and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Reflection Essay On Football At one point we despised each other. We acted and thought he same things yet, hearing the other talk just irritated us. Everything I was interested in, he was interested in; and so we became very competitive. Furthermore, in high school we began practicing with each other just to compete. We studied together just to see who would understand the lesson better. We went to leadership and military trainings together just to push to be the better cadet in the Civil Air Patrol. This competitive spirit sparked the growth out of one of the most valuable and powerful relationships of my life. Lawrence Barrett was small indonesian kid, barely 5 4 . Since he has had the choice, he has always had a buzz cut but he kept the top long enough to see his awkward swirl on his hairline. He had always looked like he never hit puberty yet, and I definitely let him now that. He was very athletically built, but I always teased him by saying that he wasn t actually ripped, but that he was just really skinny! Yet, in truth, he is one of the the most athletic people I have ever met. His speed and agility is almost unbelievable as he is a great swimmer and an even faster swimmer and biker. He could run a mile in 4 minutes and 12 seconds but even after I would even show him his time on the stopwatch, he wouldn t believe me! He is definitely one to be passive on his accomplishments. I believe it has something to do with him never feeling content with himself. See Lawrence grew up in what many people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Head Coach Research Paper In June, Blair students, Tys, Jacob, Clio, Aya, and I went to Williams College for the Squash And Beyond summer camp. The camp was run by the head squash coach at Williams, Zafi. About forty four squash players attended this camp, along with three head coaches, one track coach, and three current player coaches. The player coaches consisted of Darius Campbell, former Blair student and currently number three at Bates, Mario Yanez, currently number one at Rochester, and Chris Gordon, current pro, and number forty five in the world. The head coaches were Mr. Moore, our own Blair coach, Zafi, the current head coach of williams, and Adam. These coaches helped us with many aspects of the game. On the first day of camp, the coaches put us into groups based on our squash skills. There were four groups, ranging from one, which was for the players at the most experienced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every night Zafi organized a fun activity for the campers, ranging from competitions to social events. The first night, the campers were split up into four groups, and throughout the week activities were done in these groups. Our first activity was a volleyball tournament. The next night was dodgeball night, and the following night was soccer. The final day of the camp, the campers all played squash matches against each other. The teams for the matches were the same teams that were assigned to us for the activities, and we were ranked based on our abilities. The team led by Mario came out victorious, each team member being awarded a Dunlop hat. The Squash And Beyond camp at Williams was a great experience. • 6. Sigmund Freud s The Uncanny In The Uncanny Sigmund Freud describes the uncanny, explaining it as that class of frightening which leads back to what is old and long familiar (825) In order to adequately describe exactly how something which is old and long familiar becomes frightening he uses the German word Heimlich , which essentially means homelike. In direct contrast with Heimlich, exists the word unheimlich, which can be understood as something that is the opposite of homelike. Freud describes unheimlich as something which should have remained secret but has come to light. While there are a great many things that are able to make us feel this uncanny feeling, according to Freud they are all rooted in the same place that of our repressed memories. Today it is the timelessness of it that is uncanny, that eventually the pods got almost everyone. It didn t matter who you were or what kind of person you are, this deeply repressed fear that we could all become mindless automatons exists, and seeing it represented is deeply disturbing. The uncanny effect exists in several places in this film; the uncanny feeling from seeing someone who looks exactly like you emerge from a pod, the uncanny feeling of knowing something about someone you know is off but you just can t seem to put your finger on it, and when the whole town is essentially comprised of pod people that seem so close to the real thing it is nearly impossible to detect. This film has so many layers of uncanny, at points it is almost difficult to put your finger on exactly what it is that is creating the feeling in the first place. This film becomes a representation of our culturally repressed fears, the uncanny feeling from not knowing whether something is a human or an automaton, and through the involvement of aliens taking over the bodies of ... Art of Public Speaking Lucas: The Art of Public Speaking, 8/e PREFACE If it is true, as Walter Pater said, that a book, like a person, has its fortunes, then fortune has indeed smiled upon The Art of Public Speaking. As the book enters its eighth edition, I am deeply appreciative of the students and teachers who have made it the leading work on its subject at colleges and universities across the United States. In preparing this edition, I have retained what readers have identified as the main strengths of previous editions. The book continues to be informed by classical and contemporary theories of rhetoric but does not present theory for its own sake. Keeping a steady eye on the practical skills of public speaking, it offers full coverage of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much more than a manner of winning friends and influencing people, it is a vital mode of civic engagement through which people express their ideas and influence their society. I have rewritten the opening pages of Chapter 1 to make this point more explicitly than in previous editions partly through the addition of a new section titled The Tradition of Public Speaking, and partly through the reworking of existing material. This new emphasis seeks to provide a sharper intellectual foundation for the book and for the public speaking course in general. Plagiarism and the Internet When it comes to plagiarism, no subject causes more confusion or more temptation than the Internet. Because it is so easy to copy information from the Web, many students do not understand the lines between plagiarism and the legitimate use of Internet materials. Nor are they necessarily aware of the need to cite sources when using such materials. To address these concerns, I have added a new section to Chapter 2 titled Plagiarism and the Internet. In addition to explaining how to avoid inadvertent plagiarism when working with the Internet, this section addresses the problem of websites that sell complete speeches and papers. Here, as elsewhere in the book, I emphasize the importance of firm ethical standards in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In C.S.Lewis s work The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe he manages to use all seven archetypes and while they are not all clearly defined when you break the text apart you can see that more than one character can fill in for some archetypes. • 9. The Jewish Self Identity Essay Mary Margaret Hyer Professor Melvin Arrington Honors 101 11 December 2014 The Jewish Self Identity Throughout history, there has not been a more persecuted ethnoreligious group than the Jews; examples of their persecution can be traced back to Biblical times. Because of their mistreatment by other ethnic and religious groups, the Jewish people have formed a self identity that is unlike any other cultural group in this world. There are three components that make up the Jewish self identity: antisemitism and its effects, the image of the self hating Jew, often a result of antisemitism, and the events and repercussions of the Holocaust. Some scholars would argue that antisemitism is a result of the New Testament s portrayal of the Jewish people as the reason for Christ s crucifixion. In fact, in the Gospel of Acts, the Bible blatantly states, The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in condemning him they fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath. Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed (Acts 13:27 28). The term Jewish decide , an idea that states that the Jewish people as a whole are responsible for the death of Christ, was coined as an act of antisemitism; this decide term was often expressed as the ethnoreligious slur, Christ killer. Antisemitism has evolved over time, and its development has been categorized into six stages: (1) Pre Christian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Catalysis occurs on a specific site on the enzyme (the active site). The active site is usually less than 5% of the surface area of the protein, and is always in a cleft. The rest of the molecule serves to present the active site in a three dimensional structure that is capable of binding substrate and catalyzing the reaction. Binding to a substrate is very specific, and involves ionic interactions, H bonds and van der Waals forces. C. Only amino acids with polar side chains participate directly in catalysis (Cys, His, Ser, Asp, Glu and Lys). Some reactions require electron acceptors, and since no side chains are good electron acceptors coenzymes and cofactors are required for catalysis of some reactions. D. Enzymes catalyze reactions by several means: â–ª by orienting the substrate molecules. â–ª by increasing the effective concentration of the substrate. â–ª by acid base catalysis â–ª by covalent catalysis â–ª by using the energy of substrate binding to promote the enzyme catalyzed reaction. III. Criteria For Establishing The Presence Of Enzymes Since most of the known biological catalysts are proteins two criteria are generally used for establishing the existence of enzymes. The first is that the rate of a reaction in the presence of an enzyme is greater than the rate in its absence. Because the uncatalyzed rates of most biologically important reactions are effectively zero, the mere ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Evil-Revivalist Concept Of Evil Philosophers have debated what evil is since the beginning of philosophy. Is evil an innate characteristic in some people, or is evil simply a blanket term used to describe actions caused by outside influences, e.g. upbringing, circumstance, or mental illness? What is the nature of evil? There are two main sects of opinion for philosophers when it comes to evil: evil skeptics and evil revivalists (Calder). Evil skeptics believe that we should abandon the concept of evil. Evil skeptics are of the opinion that the concept of evil is problematic and should be abandoned, while other moral concepts, such as right, wrong, good, and bad, are necessary. On the other hand, evil revivalists believe that the concept of evil has a place in society. Evil skeptics have three main points in why the concept of evil should be abandoned, as Todd Calder illustrates in The Concept of Evil : Evil skeptics give three main reasons to abandon the concept of evil: (1) the concept of evil involves unwarranted metaphysical commitments to dark spirits, the supernatural, or the devil; (2) the concept of evil is useless because it lacks explanatory power; and (3) the concept of evil can be harmful or dangerous when used in moral, political, and legal contexts, and so, it should not be used in those contexts, if at all. (Calder) Prior to WWII, there was very little philosophical literature pertaining to the concept of evil; however, philosophers have considered the nature and origins of evil in the broad sense since ancient times (Calder). One theory on the origin of evil is called Manichaean dualism. As Calder describes in The Concept of Evil : According to Manichaean dualism, the universe is the product of an ongoing battle between two coequal and coeternal first principles: God and the Prince of Darkness...The Manichaean solution to the problem of evil is that God is neither all powerful nor the sole creator of the world. God is supremely good and creates only good things, but he or she is powerless to prevent the Prince of Darkness from creating evil. (Calder) One main problem with Manichaean dualism is that, for a theist, it is hard to accept the concept that God is not the all powerful creator he is thought to be. For that ... The Theme Of Environmentalism In Frank Herbert s Dune In undoubtedly one of the grandest science fiction epics of all time, Frank Herbert s Dune focuses on a stunning blend of politics, environmentalism, adventure, and mysticism. Recipient of the Nebula Award and Hugo Award, Dune explores the effects of a changing global climate most prominently. The role of science fiction isn t so much to predict the future, rather than to astound the audience with its possible leading avenues. Dune has a sparse ecosystem and Herbert explores for instance how the limitation of water would transform the planetary ecology and possible sustenance for human life. Thus Dune, stands as an early example that explores environmentalism and ecology, effectively communicating these novel ideas in the 1960 s to a new and young audience and generation. Herbert focuses on the untapped human potential of transcending the primary state of living conditions, however with a plethora of limitations and consequences. Particularly interesting, the novel as a whole serves as an allegory for the dangers of environmental shortages and damages. Although some may presume the novel Dune as confusing archaic misfit for a science fiction novel, these romantic critics are often too dogmatic in their provincial ideologies. Several warnings are presented throughout the course of the novel on ancient dangers such as the greed of mercantile corporations, the intertwined complications of religion and politics, conflicts of feudalism, and most prominently ecological fragility. ... The Normal Cellular Location Of The Crusoe1 Assignment Michael Layland C1476301 I1417 Q1: What does the comparison of the supernatant fraction between the experimental and control samples prove, regarding the normal cellular location of the CRUSOE1? [2 marks] A1: Triton X 100 is a detergent in laboratory practice and is used to permeabalize unfixed eukaryotic cell membranes and aids in solubilizing membranous proteins. The addition of the substance Triton X 100 would cause the majority of the cell membranes to become permeable thus allowing contents of the eukaryotic cell to leave via simple diffusion hence the large concentration of radioactive prominence to be situated in the supernatant fraction. Again, the detergent property of Triton X 100 is further reinforced by the fact that it causes the majority of all radioactive sulphur to be situated in the supernatant. Without the addition of Triton X 100 the graph displays the greatest quantity of radioactive sulphur to be situated in fraction 3 of which a majority of small organelles are situated ranging from a diameter 0.2 to 1.5 μm. It is due to this fact that one can assume the normal cellular location of the CRUSOE1 protein to be situated in normal cellular location in organelles of the previously stated diameter and not it the cytoplasmic structure as the addition of Triton X 100 would assume. Q2: Professor Holton s team speculate that CRUSOE1 is located predominantly in the Lysosomes of the cell. Is this a reasonable assumption to make, and why? [4 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Animals And Its Effects On A Terrestrial Environment One of the following challenges that various animals adapted to from a water dominant environment to a terrestrial environment is that they protected themselves from drying out. In order to carry this adaptation out and avoid desiccation (a process where organisms lose water to the air), plants developed the adaptation of cuticle; a waxy and protective surface layer that is secreted around the exposed surfaces of a plant. This surface is relatively impermeable which essentially helps avoid water loss from taking place in the plant. Additionally, it prevents them from acquiring different types of bacteria and viruses. Another structure that was adapted to prevent water loss was the stomata, which allows water to diffuse out of the plant when it closes. This adaptation is essential because plants need water to go through photosynthesis in order to produce energy. Animals additionally faced the same challenge as well when evolving onto a terrestrial environment. In order to avoid water loss, amphibians usually stayed within moist surroundings since they needed their skin to be wet, so that oxygen can pass through their skin and help them breathe. They didn t possess any adaptations capable of letting them survive in a dry land environment due to the reliance of their moist skin needed to perform vital life functions. However, reptiles evolved overcame this challenge with the dry, watertight skin they developed. This adaptation significantly reduced the amount of water ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ivan Ilych does not see death as a natural process, but as a punishment controlled by a merciless executioner, ironically much like the merciless judge he once was. Shakespeare uses this allusion to embellish the severity of this murder, creating an impression that the murder is comparable to the first and most unanticipated bloodshed ... • 34. Democratic Or Republican Essay Banjade 7 Pratiksha Banjade Professor Sherry Sharifian GOVT 2306 71003 2nd October,2017. Democratic or Republican? I have been in Texas from ten months for pursuing my further education. The place where I am currently dwelling i.e. 3225 West Walnut Hill Lane, Irving, Texas is numbered as district 16. 1 As per the research, I found that Don Huffines represents district 16 in the Texas senate. It is full of diverse population providing several opportunities to its citizens. 2 Around 846,307 people are living in district 16 in which 7.2% of the total population are below five years old, 17.1% belong to the age group from 5 to 17, 65.8% of the total population includes people of age from 18 to 64 and 9.8% are the age group above 65 years old. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As per the results of two surveys, I was categorized as a liberal person. I count myself as the supporter of Democratic party in USA. However, Don Huffines who is the representative of Texas senate from district 16 is from Republican party who tries to expand his conservative philosophy. One of the issues I stand against is for the right to keep and bear arms. The Republican party supports the right to keep guns but the Democratic party is against it and so am I. In this issue, my ideas diverge with the Republican party since it opposes the laws which limit the open use of guns. Even Don Huffines states that every Texans should have legal rights to possess their fire arms. Republican party are against the tax regulations of guns and argue to make a strong law for carrying guns as they believe that it s God given right. However, I am against this action of Don Huffines as it can be more severe in some contexts. Recently, even in my college Northlake college of Irving, a girl was murdered by a guy who had gun which happened when I was there. What is the guarantee that such acts will not be repeated in future? Carrying guns can be easy processes to threaten anyone showing its power and as an international student, it sometimes scares me. Obviously, by carrying guns and other arms, one can have personal protection but it s not a wiser decision to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. How Does Rick Deckard Create Identity In The Blade Runner The book Do Androids Dream of Sheep and the movie Blade Runner both focus on the protagonist Rick Deckard who is assigned to hunt down Androids and retire them. Throughout the book and movie, he is faced with issues such as questioning his own identity and that of others. Although the movie adaption did change some of the characters and most of the plot, it still managed to keep some things similar; most importantly the themes. One of those themes is the difficulty of correctly assigning an identity to someone, as a person can never be certain of another person s true self. This can be seen when the androids are given the Voigt Kampff test, how the specials/chicken heads are classified, and even in Rick Deckard s identity crisis. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the book, Deckard was confident about his profession and what identified him as a human. For example, he knew he was human because of his desire of having a living animal. After all, his neighbor Barbour even says that every one of us has an animal of some sort (9). Almost every character in the book who turned out to be human had some type of animal even if it was fake because it was one of the only ways other people could identify if they were human or an android. Although this changed in Deckard when he encountered Luba. When he saw her opera performance he wondered if his life was just a cycle were he killed machines that were going to be reconstructed again (92). Later on, when she was killed by the mercilessness Phil Resch, Deckard questioned why he felt empathy towards her. Resch advised him to sleep with the androids to get rid of those emotions, but when Deckard did so it did not work. Even at the end after killing all the androids and having a spiritual encounter with Mercer he is left confused about what his true identity was. However in the movie Blade Runner it was not him who was going through this crisis but it was Roy. This android wanted to expand his life because he wanted to be similar to a human. In the beginning, he went as far as killing people, something that an android would do without hesitation. Although at the end he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
