Unit 731 Research
Unit 731: Epidemic Prevention and Water Purification Department of the Kwantung Army Unit 731
was a research team under the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. Their main facilities
were set up in 1938 in the northeastern region of China known as Manchuria, which was under
Japanese occupation at the time. Led by Lieutenant Shiro Ishii, this unit focused on researching the
usage of biological weapons, although the use of such weapons was prohibited under the Geneva
Protocol. The research here was typically conducted on live human subjects, mostly Chinese locals.
Some of the experiments performed included infecting patients with diseases, then vivisecting them
without the use of anesthesia to study how their internal organs had broken down from the diseases.
Other experiments tested the effects of certain environmental conditions, including extremely cold
temperatures and high pressure. The tests were not confined to the prisoners in the unit s facilities,
as the Japanese army poisoned wells and released plague carrying fleas into Chinese cities
(Frischknecht, 2003). When Japan surrendered, the soldiers at the facilities shot the remaining
prisoners, most of the buildings were destroyed, and all the researchers were sworn to silence....

Article 32 of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Times of War
prohibits conducting any experiments on captured civilians (1949). Although this convention was
not in place at the time, and thus Japan could not have been violating it, the fact that the nations of
the world agreed to pass the convention shortly after these events unfolded shows that the global
community did not approve of such experimentation. To help keep the researchers from thinking
about the brutality of what they were doing, the test subjects were referred to as Maruta , which is

Judging Young Goodman Brown
The short story Young Goodman Brown, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, accurately bestows all aspects
of an allegory. According to Merriam Webster, an allegory is a story, poem, or picture that can be
interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one. Through this work,
Hawthorne is able to depict the apparent hypocrisy in today s world and especially in religion in
America. The story is of a man, Young Goodman Brown, who is highly tempted by the devil
himself and in the end caves to the pressure due to his lack of faith and even due to a little
curiosity. Brown could not help but wonder what this new world could potentially behold for
him; unfortunately, his curiosity didn t change him for the better, only for the worse. The
ceremony and changing opened his eyes and made him see the true colors of those around him.
We see how Brown loses faith in the people in his community, his family, and especially in
himself. We first see Browns opinion on those around him when he shows up to the ceremony in
the woods and thinks that It was strange to see that the good shrank not from the wicked, nor were
the sinners abashed by the saints. (Hawthorne 1128). This is when Brown first realizes that some
of the people he believes complete saints truly weren t, but rather were sinners in disguise. It was
said that when Brown first came onto the streets after the ceremony, he

Different Theories For Storm Electrification Essay
In order to produce lightning, a cloud must first become electrified. Cloud electrification must
occur on two spatial scales. First, a small scale process that charges individual hydrometeors must
occur. Second, a large (~5 km) scale process that effectively separates the charges by polarity. There
are several primary theories of how storms become electrified. These include a convective
mechanism, and inductive mechanism, and lastly a precipitationor non inductive mechanism. These
three theories for storm electrification, including their strengths and shortcomings, will be discussed
below.
2.4.1 Convective Mechanism
In the convective mechanism, charge comes from fair weather space charge and corona near the
ground and cosmic rays near the upper atmosphere. Updrafts carry positive space charge to the top
of the cloud. Negative charge near the top is attracted to the positive charge and is carried down by
downdrafts. The negative charge then produces corona at the ground, yielding positive charge that
can be carried by updrafts. However, models show that not nearly enough charge is produced for a
typical thunderstorm from this mechanism. Further, it is unclear how this accounts for the
temperature dependence of the charge structure (MacGorman and Rust 1998). Thus, the convective
mechanism does not explain the primary charging mechanism.
2.4.2 Induction Mechanism
Historically, one of the earliest theories for cloud electrification was an inductive mechanism.

Katniss Everdeen Quotes
A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of
overwhelming obstacles. This quote is the entire theme of the book called the Mockingjay by
Suzanne Collins. With this quote in mind, Katniss Everdeen is the hero in District 13. In
chapters five, six, and seven, Katniss Everdeen is being faced with many difficult obstacles and
situations that has to deal with her being the hero called the Mockingjay. To start off with,
Katniss Everdeen is encountered by a situation that represents her as a fierce Mockingjay in
chapter five. In other words, she is told to deliver a slogan for the cameras that are intended to

Date performed January 18, 2015
Introduction/ Abstract:
Simple harmonic motion is the study of oscillation. An object undergoes oscillation when it
experiences a restoring force which restores this object to equilibrium positon. The Simple
harmonic oscillation occurs when the net force on an object along the direction of motion is
proportional to the object s displacement and in the opposite direction by this equation F = kx. In
addition, an object whose position time graph makes a sine or cosine function is in simple
harmonic motion. This type of relation is called Hooke s law. The purpose of this experiment is to
prove Hooke s law and study Simple harmonic motion and to show that this equation T = 2 is valid
during Simple harmonic motion.
Theory:
The relevant theoretical concepts and equations used in this experiment are:
T = 2

The Intake Of Synthetic Sugar
Once ingested, sugar causes blood glucose levels to frequently spike and drop. When blood sugar
is unstable, it can lead to headaches, fatigue, and mood swings. Low blood sugar triggers the
release of hormones such as adrenaline, epinephrine, and cortisol, inducing stress. Furthermore,
sugar elicits the release of dopamine, causing it to be somewhat of an addictive substance.
Adrenaline and epinephrine are chemicals which allow the sinoatrial node to fire more frequently,
preparing the body for intense physical activity. Sugar absorption therefore engenders irregular
firing of the sinoatrial node, even when the body is not preparing for physical activity. A normal
resting heart rateranges between 60 100 bpm, but can vary still depending on many factors,
including levels of activity and athleticism. Active heart rate is even more variable, greatly
depending on exercise intensity. Generally speaking, however, a healthy target range is below 220
bpm.
The purpose of this experiment is to find out how the intake of synthetic sugar may have an effect
on both resting and active heart rate. This should allow an understanding of the effects sugar can
have on the body as well as providing insight concerning the negativity towards excessive portions
of this particular substance.
Hypothesis If one consumes a relatively high amount of sugar, then the average rate at which the
heart beats, both in resting and active circumstances, would increase because sugar causes blood
glucose

In The Past, Gender Roles Specialization As So Pronounced
In the past, gender roles specialization as so pronounced that females and males had very different
roles and responsibilities assigned to them. In most of the cultures, men were the breadwinners
while women were house managers and assuming the roles of caregivers. However, in the
contemporary world, material foundations linked to gender rolespecialization have weakened with
the caretaking work that was used to define females disappearing. Nevertheless, studying gender
role specialization from a sociological viewpoint, it is evident that gender norms are still in
existence. This can be explained using the study by Parsons and Bales on the contribution of the
familystructure in socio economic context. According to Parsons and Bales,... Show more content

As a result of industrialization and modernization, the American society is shaped with changes
evidenced in the family unit. For instance, today s families are nuclear and thus separated from
their extended kin. Today s typical American family consists of a husband, a wife, and the
dependent children (Schulte 17). Based on the explanation given by Parsons and Bales, a nuclear
family as a functioning system depends and requires successful performance of roles and
equilibrium. This is extended further by Hochschild who argues that the major roles in today s
nuclear family are provision of income, creating and maintaining relationships with family and
friends, caring for the children, socializing children, cleaning the house, disciplining the children,
and preparing food (91). However, while Parsons and Bales divide gender roles into instrumental
and expressive ones, this difference is not noted in the current society in which any of the gender
can perform any role to ensure equilibrium and sustainability of the current nuclear family unit.
In the traditional gender role division explained by Parsons and Bales, the roles by men and
women in the family are separated. Using the classical sociological view, even though men perform
caregiving roles, these are instrumental and managerial in nature. In order to care for their families,
the role of men is instrumental as they work in their careers to

Religion and Science in the Classroom Essay
Science, in Albert Einstein s words, describes what is. Such a description consists of certain laws of
nature, which summarize observed patterns, and theories (Peshkin 46). Science and religion are the
main components of the ongoing national debate about the teaching of evolution in our public
schools (Peshkin 46).Various religions reject or ignore the contributions of science, arguing that
science displaces God, questions religious belief, and degrades morality (Molloy 547). Others
disagree, appreciating science and the important information that has broadened our knowledge by
providing explanations for natural phenomenon, and continuously enriching our lives. In some
religions and traditions, science poses ethical questions. Does... Show more content on

If public school teachers want to inform students about creationism, they should do so in a religion
class, not a science class.
Intelligent design or Creationism, as typically viewed on by its American advocates, draws on a
literal interpretation of the Judeo Christian tradition that the world is no more than 6,000 years
old and that all species of life on the planet were created over a period of 6 days by a
monotheistic deity (Overton 934). In contrast, evolutionary theory maintains that biological life
originated by way of a natural selection process over billions of years (Morris 78).The concept of
evolution, since its inception as a scientific theory through publication of Charles Darwin s Origin
of Species in 1859, has faced religious opposition (Verma 206). Intelligent Design has been
gaining acceptance in the United States. According to a series of polls, conducted during the last
25 years, about 50% Americans believe in the original form of Creationism (Lewontin, 2005).
Former President Bush agreed to teaching evolution and intelligent design side by side in science
classes (Dawkins Coyne, 2005). A school board in Dover, Pennsylvania voted against introduction
of intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in biology classes (Goodstein, 2005). In Kansas
the school board accepted intelligent design as part of the curriculum alongside evolution (Wilgoren,

Energy is the ability to do work. It has the potential to make changes, and any changes are due to

Peter Gibbon Heroes
In Peter H. Gibbon the The End of Admiration: The Media and the Loss of Heroes (247) he
explores media favoritism, specifically the use of deviant material to generate a preeminent
audience. Gibbon states that because the media expels blather, which is sometimes inaccurate or
overly exaggerated, the public is afraid, skeptical, misguided and often dumbed down. He reiterates
that although the everyday public may have an immense amount of media sources, they continue to
be seduced by the more prominent of the sources (i.e. pop culture, actors, musicians) and tend to
believe everything they read and hear. No one seems to know or care about a true hero, they
admire those that are featured in the news, regardless of negativity. He compares

Why We Should Eat Pork
It seems clear that, there are various different reasons why we consume pork and many people
would feel that all these reasons are enough to justify and explain its consumption. This could be
down to the nutritional value of the meat, the idea that if we didn t eat pigs then they wouldn t
exist in the first place and the philosophical views on the consumption of meat in the first place.
However, my research has also shown that there are many reasons why people feel we should not
eat pork. The next section of my essay will look into the arguments against the consumptions of
pork and the reasons for this view.

The researchers also found that it s possible to train pigs and teach them different talents, such as
jumping hoops, bowing and playing video games as well as being able to learn routines quickly.
Many other scientists have also shown that pigs are highly intelligent, for example , We have
shown that pigs share a number of cognitive capacities with other highly intelligent species such as
dogs, chimpanzees, elephants, dolphins, and even humans, said neuroscientist Lori Marino of
Emory University . It was also discovered that pigs can understand basic symbolic language and
learn multiple signs for actions as well as placing coloured pig shaped blocks in the correct
coloured holes on a wooden board. They found that the pig can do this using its mouth and on its
own. The Discovery News has also reported that, pigs have complex social networks, with them
often learning from one another and cooperating together.
Lastly, researchers in the Netherlands carried out an experiment to understand the behaviours of
pigs in more depth. The experiment went as follows: pigs were placed in 16 groups of six, two
of the pigs in each of the groups were trained to expect either happiness or distress. This was done
by playing them music and either rewarding them with a treat such as chocolate raisins, or putting
them in a stressful situation, such as keeping them in isolation in a small pen. After that, untrained
pigs were added to a

The Great Gatsby Adaptation Essay
The adaptation of literature into film is a process that requires careful and experienced methods of
cinematic attention to details according to crucial narrative aspects of the literary piece. The film
industry has been creating visual versions of literature for quite some time, but the advancement of
modern technology has opened the door to a world full of new and exciting possibilities in terms
of visual and special effects. The Great Gatsbyby F. Scott Fitzgeraldis a timeless classic of the
American literary canon, and is a popular choice for film adaptation because the vivid imagery and

For example, he deletes a scene that is key to Fitzgerald s novel; consequently, he perverts the
author s original intentions for an initial establishment of the friendship between Jay Gatsby and
Nick prior to the introduction of the cultural party elements. Dixon (2003), who asserts that
Coppola sullied Fitzgerald s original intentions, reinforces this claim when he states, For example,
Nick meets Gatsby during one of his parties at Gatsby s mansion in a causal, offhand fashion. But
in the film, Nick goes for the first time to one of Gatsby s parties, is melodramatically accosted by
a grim faced bodyguard, taken upstairs in a private elevator, and finally thrust into Gatsby s study.
This attempt to heighten artificially the initial contact between Nick and Gatsby demonstrates an
unfortunate reliance upon extremely clichГ©d devices to provide dramatic tension (p. 293).
However, Fitzgerald makes it clear that Nick and Gatsby s relationship exists separately from the

The Iliad s Ending Essay
Homer s Iliad is commonly understood as an epic about the Trojan War, but its meaning goes
deeper than that. The Iliad is not only a story of the evolution of Achilleus persona, but at times it
is an anti war epic as well. The final book proposes many questions to the reader. Why not end
with the killing of Hektor? Most stories of war conclude with the triumphant victory of good over
evil, but in the Iliad, the final thoughts are inclined to the mourning of the defeated Hektor, which
accentuates the fact that good has not triumphed over evil, but simply Achilleus triumphed over
Hektor. Ending with the mourning of Hektor also brings to center stage for the first time the human
side of war and the harsh aftermath of it. We see that war... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The pain is exemplified even further with the speech of Andromache, wife of Hektor. With this
we see for one of the first times the importance of family to the Trojans. Andromache s suffering
is extreme and harsh. When she says, But for me passing all others is left the bitterness and the
pain, it shows the importance of the husband to the wife. This speech is very pivotal in depicting
the bleak future for the widows whose husbands left them behind to die in search of honor. Now
that the husbands are dead, the once noble wives and children must go work as slaves, once their
city is sacked. Andromache and Astyanax are doomed to lead a wretched life, because their
protector is dead. Such is the nature of war. Were Homer to end with the killing of Hektor and
Achilleus triumph, the melancholy aftermath would be totally neglected. Another effect of
Homer s final book of the Iliad is it affirms the thought that neither Achilleus nor Hektor are the
bad guy, but both are worthy of glory and praise. A fair generalization about heroic stories is that
the good guy always win. It is clichГ©, and very common, but it is a fact. The Iliad goes beyond
this commonplace, by pitting two forces against each other, none of which can be characterized as
the good guy or the bad guy. While the entire poem is about the glory of Achilleus and his god like
superiority to all men, Hektor needs some

Antonio Lopez De Santa Anna
Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was born in Jalapa, Veracruz Mexico, on February 21, 1794. He
belongs to a criollo middle class family. His parents were from Spain. He was a Mexican politician
and military leader who was President of Mexico eleven times from 1833 to 1855. He was
president officially six times, and unofficially five more. He was also a disastrous president of
Mexicobecause he lost Texasand much more of the current American west in the United States.
However, by far he was an important figure of his generation in the Mexican history. Many people
love him during his first years of president, and he was remembered for two major conflicts, the
Battle of the Alamo in 1836 during the Texas Revolution, and as a restored Mexican leader during
the Mexican American War in 1847 (tshaonline.org).
The prestige of Santa Anna in 1829 helped him to gain the presidency in 1833. In 1829 he fought
against Spain s attempt to conquer Mexico, and after his victory everyone looked at him as a good
leader. His victory from Spain makes him immediately turn over power. At that time the vice
president was ValentГn GГіmez FarГas, and allowed him to make some reforms, including many
that aimed at the Catholic Church and the army. Because the people of Mexico do not accept his
reforms, Santa Anna stepped in and removed GГіmez FarГas from power, and consequently he
gained the presidency in 1833 as a Federalist and opponent of Roman Catholic Church. He was in
power from 1833 to 1836

Evolution And Development Within Our Society
Designed Humanity You cannot tell which one is which, as they all look to be average. But then
you see the identical ones, the ones with technology infused artificial joints, or the ones whom
poses a slight fluorescent skin. And by the time you notice it, they are everywhere and you are the
only true human left. As time reaches further, we find ourselves living in the new age of
technology, political rivalries, and weapons of mass destruction that are no longer radical
cartoonists ideas from the television series Roadrunner. This upward rollercoaster of evolution and
development within our society leaves one to ponder over one crucial thing: how will it all come
crashing down? There are many elements around us that could lead to our own horrifying
conclusion and it becomes a simple coin toss to decide our fate. But as many scientistic
developments and fictional novels have foretold, the desperate search for the advancement of the
human race itself can come as glimpse into the mystic future or possibly the end of us completely.
Genetic mutations, at first a simple random mole found of the exterior of the body and the shade of

is to condition your brain to ask better questions. The example he gave a scenario that there was
this big paper you had to do and you only have 3 weeks, now the first thing you d think is This is
too much. How I will never get this paper done in time? A person who s able to condition their

Rise Of Fascism

Fascism is a type of extremist, right wing, totalitarian and nationalist ideology which first emerged
during the beginning of the 20th century in Europe. The growth of fascism in Europe after the end
of the First World War was caused by a combination of the socio economic and political conditions
which enabled Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler to come to power over the period prior to the
Second World War. Indeed, Blinkhorn comments that European fascismis, and always will be,
inextricably associated with the years between the end of the First World War and the end of the
Second (Blinkhorn 7). These conditions saw the development of nationalist ideologies and the
emergence of the fascist party in Italy and the National Socialist Party in Germany.
The main features of fascism as implemented by Mussolini and Hitler were based on nationalist,
expansionist foreign policies in combination with domestic policies which boosted the economy
and raised living standards. Indeed, Gentile comments that fascism in both Italy and Germany
wanted to conquer new countries and spread the empire of the totalitarian new civilization all over
the New Europe (Gentile 181). The direct actions of both Mussolini and Hitler in ... Show more

Narrative Essay On Sports Injury
Growing up in Middle Georgia, sports were played year around. There was never a down time,
especially in the Thompson household. I was constantly playing a sport. Injuries were bound to
happen, some worse than others. During my athletic career, two injuries were worse than others. I
grew up less than three miles away from the Warner Robins American Little League. This is where
I started my passion for baseball. Every spring, my dad would sign me up to play. At the end of the
season, the coaches would pick the best players to play on the All Star team. The All Star team
would compete against local teams in our District. If you win districts, you would compete for the

On our days off between games, we would have two a days. We would have practice in the
mornings and in the afternoon. During one of those practices, I was going through fielding
workouts. As we were practicing, I misread a line drive that hit my middle finger on my right hand.
The impact fractured my finger. The fractured finger ruled me out for the rest of the District
tournament, the State tournament, and the Region tournament. Fortunately, our team went
undefeated in each tournament to send us to the Little League World Series in Williamsport,
Pennsylvania. The second injury was much worse in nature. During the fall of 2014, I was a
sophomore at Perry High School. I was the starting tight end on the varsity football team. On
October 17, 2014 we played a cross city rival Veterans High School. At the time, we were
competing for a playoff spot.
Around five minutes left in the 2nd Quarter, I ran a slant route to the middle of the field. My dad

dismissed it, seeing no value in creating a connection with others. However, seeking solace in

In high school, I felt that a vital part of my education was missing my freshman year since we
did not have to take any social studies class. This made me feel like we had been cheated in
some way. So, when I had the choice of taking college prep World History or Advanced
Placement European History the following year, I chose to take AP because I felt like history
should be something challenging that forces one to think and question information. I knew it
would be rigorous, but if history doesn t make you think critically, it carries no meaning.
However, the first semester didn t go well and I failed. Frustrated by this failure and feeling
powerless, I dug in my heels the second semester and began to study more and yet still wasn t
getting the answers right. On the night before the AP European Test, I made one final attempt
to atone for my lackluster study skills earlier in the year by reading my textbook cover to cover.
It worked because I passed with a three on the AP exam and felt motivated to do better come
eleventh grade. I no longer stayed up all night or had to read the textbooks cover to cover for AP

Wicked Vs Oz Compare And Contrast
Wizard of Oz vs. Wicked
The Wizard of Oz and Wicked are two famous books that were turned into movies and plays. At
first glance, these two works look very similar since they both revolve around a main character that
happens to be a witch. Even though the two storylines are entwined, there are still many contrasting
points that make the two unique. Many similarities and differences can be found between wizards,
the plot, and the main characters of the Wizard of Oz and Wicked.
The Wizard of Oz was written in 1900 by L. Frank Baum, 95 years before Wicked was published.
The plot revolves around Dorothy and her dog, Toto, as they make their way through the land of Oz.

Bluetooth Technology- Past, Present, And Future
Bluetooth Technology Past, Present, and Future
History
Bluetooth technology was the creation of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. This groups was
founded by five major corporations from different countries to develop communication system that
could be used world wide. Ericsson, Nokia, IBM, Intel, and Toshiba, founded the Bluetooth
Special Interest Group (SIG) in February of 1998. (Morrow, 2002) Microsoft, 3Com, Lucent, and
Motorola later joined the group in December 1999. Now the group of nine members is called SIG
Promoters. There are no plan as of now to add any other member to the group. (Morrow, 2002)
Bluetooth is named after the 10th century Viking king Harald Blatand, who conquered all of
Denmark and Norway and converted the Danes to Christianity. (Aardsma, 2001) The king was
known for his desire to snack on blueberries and his ability to unite the warring factions that is now
known as Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. (Newstex, 2012) The idea that the blueberries caused his
teeth to turn blue is not confirmed. But his ability to unite different people groups inspired the SIG
to use the name Bluetooth.
Development
Low cost communication technology that uses little power was the reason Bluetooth was
developed. Developers wanted to be able to connect devices from different manufactures and with
different purposes, such as computers from Apple and mice from Microsoft. At low cost and a
secure connection. (Newstex, 2012) The design was to remove cables so that virtually

Compairison of Young Goodman Brown and No Country For...
The story Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne depicts a man whose inner desire is to
experience the evil forbidden forest, as well as retaining his image as a, good and honest Christian.
This internal conflict is also portrayed in the movie No Country for Old Men, which was directed
and written by the Coen brothers. In the movie the main character, Llewellyn Moss, is confronted
with the moral dilemma of either keeping the drug money he found or calling the police. Although
he morally makes the wrong decision, he still tries to maintain his values and character. Essentially
the central conflict of Young Goodman Brownis faithfulness versus forbidden, and the central
conflict in No Country for Old Men is honesty versus corruption.... Show more content on

The good willed sheriff (Ed Tom Bell) was always doing his best to prevent Moss from getting
himself killed, and also wanted to put a stop to the increasing drug related violence in the country.
The point of disequilibrium in the movie occurs when Moss discovers the bust drug deal and the
money. Moss and Bell were both honest and decent hearted characters (for the most part), and they
both were very reminiscent of Goodman Brown. All three characters share same characteristic of
honesty, and determination that they will beat conflict confronting them. Hawthrone s story
climax is when Goodman Brown first discovers his wife s hair ribbon in the forest, and then
finally sees her in the evil sermon. The resolution is that when Goodman Brown returns to the
Salem again he becomes estranged with this wife and social circle, and becomes very paranoid.
The climax is No Country for Old Men is when Moss faces off with the hitman and escapes to a
motel where other members of the gang eventually murder him. In the end Moss is killed and the
sheriff retires when he sees he can t stop the violence. Corruption essentially beats out honesty at
the end of the movie. Both stories share the same resolutions as well because nothing is really
resolved for the better in the sense that evil prevails at the end of both stories. Some of the values

Essay on Mending Wall
Mending Wall by Robert Frost is a poem in which the characteristics of vocabulary, rhythm and
other aspects of poetic technique combine in a fashion that articulates, in detail, the experience
and the opposing convictions that the poem describes and discusses. The ordinariness of the rural
activity is presented in specific description, and as so often is found in Frost s poems, the
unprepossessing undertaking has much larger implications. Yet his consideration of these does not
disturb the qualities of accessible language and technique, which give the poem its unique flavor
and persuasiveness. The poem works on two levels of realism and metaphor, with a balance as
poised as the act of mending the all itself. (themes) Perhaps one of... Show more content on

Even though the words do not carry, the sound of them does and the listener can catch the
meaning of the conversation. This is because every meaning has a particular sound posture, or to
think of it in another way, the sense of meaning has a particular sound which each individual is
instinctively familiar with and without at all being conscious of the exact words that are being
used is able to understand the thought, idea or emotion that is being conveyed. Each sentence in
the Mending Wall is not interesting merely in conveying a meaning of words, it does much more
by conveying a meaning by its tone. If we were to go back far enough in history we would
discover that the sound of sense (tone) existed before words, that there was something in the voice
or vocal gesture made by primitive man that conveyed a meaning to his companions before man
developed a more elaborate method of communication. Native Americans have been said to have
possessed a picture language, a means of communicating by the sound of sense. This sound of
sense, or the voice Frost gives to the personae of his characters is the most important, distinquishing
and conspicuously insistent feature of not only Mending Wall but his other poetry(style) Frost has
provided to the common reader poems and writings that allow each of us to ponder the questions
for which we must look to our morals and beliefs to find the answers, or to consider the ones he
sometimes offers. It

Business Ethics are an important part to any organization. If a business doesn t practice good
ethics, they will not be successful because of their image perceived by the public. Ethics is the
branch of philosophy that involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right
and wrong conduct. What the definition says is it s more of a decision of right vs. wrong, ethical
or unethical. Based on our class discussion, we discussed where we get our morals, or ethics from.
We learned the two sets of people are the most influential are your parents, and your employer.
The reason I don t find this surprising, is that these two groups are the people that teach you the
most in life. Your parents teach you good morals and values, from your religion and your respect
for people. That is instilled in you since the day you are born. Your employers teach you the right

Imagery In The Japanese Quince
The brief story The Japanese Quince merely consists of two characters, Mr. Nilson and Mr.
Tandram. He describes both men, especially in a detailed, interesting way. All expressive means
and stylistic devices are employed by the author to expose the characters. To the best of my
knowledge, John Galsworthyillustrates great imagery in this short story. He receives the reader s
attention by giving a great mental picture of the lifestyles of the two men, starting with Mr.
Nilson. As Mr. Nilson, well known in the City, opened the window of his dressing room on
Campden Hill, this descriptive sentence shows that Mr. Nilson is well to do having his dressing

The history and explanation of how these institutions are operated
The increase in violent behavior amongst America s youth has prompted the implementation of
more effective rehabilitation methods. With the percentage of non violent offenders on the rise,
prison incarceration or juvenile detention doesn t seem to be the right solution for rehabilitation. In
December 1983 a new idea emerged in Giorgia. This new idea was shock incarceration or boot camp

efforts of young offenders. During the early years the majority of the juvenile justice community

In April of 1992 this program was introduced into three states Ohio, Colorado and Alabama. It

This program catered to nonviolent youth between the ages of 13 to 18. It also has three phases
that the inmates must successfully pass in order to complete their sentence. The first phase is
selection (including screening and intake). This phase consisted of selecting inmates who have not
been convicted of any of the following: murder, manslaughter, sex offenses, aggravated arson,
felony assaults and kidnapping. All of the inmates are required to take a medical examination prior
to entering the program due to the physically demanding environment. Alcohol and drug
associated inmates were accepted as long as they were not addicted to these substances. Each
program consisted of a 3 month military like residential phase followed by a community aftercare

Essay On Gilgamesh
There is debate to whether or not the 12th tablet of the Epic of Gilgamesh belongs to the original
story. Gilgamesh showcases many tropes that we see in classic epics and novels of heros. He was
a man without fear, without a challenge, and at the beginning of the story he is painted out to be
more of a villain than a hero. This was do to his unrest, he need someone who could challenge him;
this would allow him to go down the path path of a hero. Enkiduwas created by the gods to
challenge Gilgameshand push him. I feel after he meets Enkidu, he starts to consider his fame more

In Tablet 7 (60 62) they talk about the underworld as Enkidu is passing into the afterlife. Despite
that the text doesn t really strike fear into the reader about the underworld. He is turned into a
dove and is taken to a house where the gods of the the underworld and afterlife reside. Fame is
glorified more in the first 11 tablets. So if it was presented the way it was in the 12th tablet it
would take away from that aspect. If I tell you what I saw of the ways of the Netherworld, O sit
you down and weep! (194). This line alone depicts the differences in viewpoints in the first 11
tablets when compared to the 12th tablet. Its depicting the netherworld as a hellish place and
brings to question is fame worth it. Enkidu tells Gilgamesh of the people he saw; the man who

and the second man has found no rest in the netherworld (195). This tablet tackles what happens to
these men of honor and fame and shows that regardless of what you do in the the human world, the
netherworld is ruthless to all. I begs the question is eternal glory and fame worth it in

Oligopoly Market Failure
In micro economics market failure is characterized by resource misallocation and subsequent Pareto
inefficiency. Just as the invisible hand falters, so is the case that the unregulated markets are
incapable of solving all economic problems. In laissez faire economy, market models mainly
monopolistic, perfect competition and oligopoly are expected to efficiently allocate resources for
the welfare benefit of the society. However individualistic and selfish private interests divert the
public benefits thereby prompting government intervention to correct the imperfection which may
lead to disastrous economic impact. Although corrective intervention policies by government may
not necessarily address the underlying imperfection induced by... Show more content on

Competition failure or monopoly may result from natural monopoly where it costs incurred in
production becomes lower when only one firm is involved in production than several firms
producing the same output. In a monopolist market under production, higher prices become
dominant contributing to market inefficiency. Winston cites cases of misuse of monopoly power
can lead to market failures and sometimes may lead to acute shortage of essential commodities
(130).
Coordination failures by private markets are perceived to contribute significantly in inefficiency.
Negative externalities like environmental pollution and positive externalities like focusing on public
benefits and ignoring the private benefits significantly contribute to market failures. Fundamental
questions have been raised to determine the appropriate time government intervention is required
and the magnitude of inefficiency to warrant supposedly intervention or to let the market correct
itself. Stiglitz, argued that inefficient government microeconomic policies to address the market
gap often tends to exacerbate the existing problem or yield unproductive results in the economy
(34).

of making other individuals worse than they were found. To

American Psycho By Bret Easton Ellis
In the novel American Psycho written by Bret Easton Ellis, Patrick Bateman s use of violence and
his wealth are exemplified in scenes involving the murder of his ex girlfriend Bethany. As well as
appealing to the idea to maintain an upscale image by any means such as purchasing expensive
merchandise and taking the initiative to attend upscale restaurants. His actions with the
implications of those elements reveal the consumptions of status and privilege. The detailed
narration of Bateman s intense violent acts and purchases of expensive products creates imaginary
and conflict for readers to accept the appearance he is trying to come across to his associates and
the general public. This may result in readers rejecting his character and... Show more content on

To convey this point, I first identify what consumption is and the two additional components to it.
As well as providing two scenes that suggest that theme resulting in those two sub points. Not to
mention, I intend to present several transitional periods in the novel going back and forward from
first illustrating Bateman s disappearance of control to then aiming to recover it by inflicting pain
on others. Then, bring to an end how his actions can be understood and how it affects what readers
can take away from the novel. Consumption can be seen in the reading as the fixation on acquiring
materials, or upholding an image. This aspect is crucial to the novel American Violence because it
motivates/contributes to the actions of each character. For instance, the text states, In the early light
of a May dawn this is what the living room of my apartment looks like...A glass top coffee table
with oak legs with by Turchin sits in front of the sofa, with Steuben glass animals, placed
strategically around expensive crystal ashtrays from Fortunoff, though I don t smoke (Ellis 25).
This passage represents consumption focusing on the fixation on acquitting materials. For the
reason that mentioning, with crystal ashtrays... though I don t smoke indications how that item, in
particular, is not beneficial for Bateman since he does not smoke. However, looking at the text
suggests that it was necessary for him to have the ashtray

Behavior Analysis Essay
in order to form a unified science. These three behavior steps talk about how to analyze behavior
in a way people can easily understand how behaviors are learned and depicting them. In the first
journal article, discuss about the important issues in the behavior analysis. Staats said the first
detailed behavioral analysis of childdevelopment and how the parents are involved in such
development (pg.307). This quote is talking about the behavioron people s parenting skills and how
to analyze the child s development. In doing so people can have a better sense on how to teach their
children and see whether the children learns from their family. Staats said PB program of
psychologizing behaviorism rests upon the standard psychological tradition, accepting that
traditional psychological terms somehow designate unitary phenomena worthy of scientific
investigation. (pg.308 Isolating Phenomena for Scientific Study). This quote talks about how Staats

of proportion of life. Behavioral has to do with personality and the mood on people s emotion. I
agree with Staat s research because behaviors come from people s personalities and the way they
do doings around people or even not with people. It clearly to say behavior cannot often be

Mark Literary Style
All author s contain their own unique literary styles and the gospel authors are no exception. For
example, the greek used by Mark s author is unpolished which in turn leads to the authors of
Matthew and Luke refining the material they borrow from Mark. Mark s author also makes use of
catchwords to link stories in his gospel. However, Mark s most noticeable literary feature is also the
most infuriating and confusing for the orderly. While on the surface Peter s denial and Jesusact of
concealing his identity may appear arbitrary, Mark uses devices such as compound stories to reveal
the method behind the madness.
A compound story is larger story that is divided into two parts with a different story inserted
between them as seen in Mark 14:53 72 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jesus repeatedly commands the demons, his disciples, and the people he healed not to inform
anyone who he is. As readers of the twenty first century, Jesus instructions bewilder us, yet with
careful reasoning, some explanations for Jesus behavior come to mind. First, Jesus most likely
demanded the demons to not disclose his identity because demons are not credible sources and
their words should not be used as a foundation for faith for those who hear. Additionally, if
demons were the ones spreading the gospel truth that Jesus was the Son of God, the scribes
argument that Jesus was possessed by Beelzebul would have been enforced and Jesus ministry
would have suffered a devastating impact (Mark 3:22). Second, Jesus may have instructed his
disciples not to proclaim his identity because the people weren t ready to hear it. The disciples
were ready and able to understand the true implication of Jesus being the Messiah, but others were
not. Finally, Jesus advised those he healed not to announce who healed them because of the
multitude of people that would have inevitably swarmed him. Hordes of people make it harder to
teach and also attract the attention of some unwanted authorities

Elementary Schools Teach Handwriting
Handwriting everyone uses it, however, some don t use it very well. Should Elementary schools
teach handwriting? Yes, because many people use it today, but some peoples writing is
unreadable. There are three main reasons why Elementary schools should teach handwriting. One,
you use it in everyday life, secondly you fill out job applications and other legal matters, thirdly
people need to be able to read your writing.
Elementary schools should teach handwriting because you use it in everyday life. You have to
write papers, take notes, and if some have jobs, write out checks. Most people though have
unreadable handwriting, so maybe learning at a young age will help. The kids and teachers may
disagree by finding it to hard or they are too young,

National Organization For Women Essay
This document was written by the National Organization for Women or also known as NOW. This
organization is standing up for the rights of women across the United States. Women were being
suppressed for decades and pushed into old traditional thoughts that are becoming outdated. The
country was advancing but only for its men. Women were still considered to be good mothers and
take of the household. The National Organization for Women argues that the world is advancing
and becoming more and more technologized, where women are needed to work in the workforce
rather than be treated less than men. Factories and many workplaces were developing efficient
ways to complete tasks that did not require the masculine men strength. As the country and world
was advancing, so were researches that helping people live longer than before. With life span

The NOW group believed that this nation has a capacity at least as great as other nations, to
innovate new social institutions which will enable women to enjoy true equality of opportunity
and responsibility in society, without conflict with their responsibilities as mothers and
homemakers (Johnson, 270). Allowing women to work would not only give the women justice to
their entitled freedom from the Constitution but will help the men out in their respective
households. The workloads and family s economic burdens would not only be the man s
problem, the women could help the family out by working in the workforce also. Women worked
while the men were off to work during the World War II and took care of the families, why should
they stop what they started and have learned? There was no reason for women to be denied for
their rights as other groups such as African Americans and other growing minorities were gaining
rights during this time period

Women s Roles in Television
в€
љOver the last 60 years may things have changedНѕ technology, traditions, culture, and of
course the way a female is seen in eyes around the world. Television itself dates back to the 1920 s
(these television sets were extremely limited during these years). In 1950, only 9 percent of
American households had a television set, but by the 1960 the figure had reached 90 percent.
During this time, women were introduced in a completely diverted way then a male actor. Women
took stereotypical roles such as the housewife, mother, maid or even nanny. While other women
took on a role of a dumb blonde or a petite young women trying to please a man. Women were
meant to be submissive, obedient, and futile. In the past, TV portrayed women as sex ... Show more

She was an American actress known for being the ultimate sex icon.
Marilyn Monroe was society s way of showing the importance on being attractive, and how a
woman should look. Marilyn wasn t a petite women, but had beautiful curves and flawless skin.
She was known mostly for her body rather than her personality, unlike women in modern
television. Women today are known for their independence and their equality. Ladies from
Marilyn and Lucy s time came a long way, in some shows and/or movies women are now playing
major roles and even hosting their own talk show. Today, women aren t expected to be physically
fit or attractive but rather than good at what they do and love it.
The difference between all these ladies is that Lucy and June are more of the ideal mother
from the 1950 s. The white, middle class mothers who are thought to clean and cook in white
pearls and pastel pressed dresses. Although, Sandy and Rizzo are the ones to objectify the male
fantasy these ladies had a rebellion tone to their personalities, more outgoing and independent. All
these ladies showed dramatic changes over the short years. Now ladies all around the world are
hosting, producing, acting, and even directing.
Another difference between these ladies is that Lucy and June were mothers. In classic
television women did paly a domestic guardian of the household duties. In classic television, there
was another stereotype of how parenting and marriage are more

Gongche Paper
In most cultures, there are many ways to write and express music. Here in America, there are chant
notations, staff notations, solfege, and many more. China has another form of notation called
Gongche. Gongche is written in traditional Chinese characters that represent the note or part of
solfege that should be played. However, recently there are forms of writing musiccalled Jianpu,
which are numbered notations that represent the note that needs to be played. Jianpu is a simplified
version of Gongche, however, instead of using Chinese characters, numbers are used to represent a
solfege. In standard American staff notation, there are different notes that are placed on a series of
five lines that represent different notes. At the beginning of the line, there are symbols that show...

In gongche, every character represents a note, which makes up their solfege. To tell how much
strength each note should be played for, there are accents placed on top of the characters, and a
tiny open circle placed under them. The accent on top of the note means that it is weaker than a
normal note, and the open circle means that it is stronger. This is done to assist with the rhythm of
the overall piece. These marks are made for the percussion, instructing them to take the rhythmic
lead. In the simplified, Jianpu notation, the numbers represent the notes position on the solfege.
The scales that are represented here are major and minor. When the dot is placed on top of a
number, it means it should be raised to the higher octave, and underneath means a lower one. In this
system, the length of the note played is shown to the musician by dashes placed underneath the
number. This indicates an equivalent of half and quarter notes. There are also zeroes that can be
found on the musical piece, this means that there is a rest. Similarly to staff notation, the meter is
established by the vertical line after a certain number of

  • 2. Unit 731 Research Unit 731: Epidemic Prevention and Water Purification Department of the Kwantung Army Unit 731 was a research team under the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. Their main facilities were set up in 1938 in the northeastern region of China known as Manchuria, which was under Japanese occupation at the time. Led by Lieutenant Shiro Ishii, this unit focused on researching the usage of biological weapons, although the use of such weapons was prohibited under the Geneva Protocol. The research here was typically conducted on live human subjects, mostly Chinese locals. Some of the experiments performed included infecting patients with diseases, then vivisecting them without the use of anesthesia to study how their internal organs had broken down from the diseases. Other experiments tested the effects of certain environmental conditions, including extremely cold temperatures and high pressure. The tests were not confined to the prisoners in the unit s facilities, as the Japanese army poisoned wells and released plague carrying fleas into Chinese cities (Frischknecht, 2003). When Japan surrendered, the soldiers at the facilities shot the remaining prisoners, most of the buildings were destroyed, and all the researchers were sworn to silence.... Article 32 of the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Times of War prohibits conducting any experiments on captured civilians (1949). Although this convention was not in place at the time, and thus Japan could not have been violating it, the fact that the nations of the world agreed to pass the convention shortly after these events unfolded shows that the global community did not approve of such experimentation. • 3. Judging Young Goodman Brown By Nathaniel Hawthorne Emy Gore : 1444769 Professor Sharp English 1033 18 23 September 2013 Judging Young Goodman Brown The short story Young Goodman Brown, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, accurately bestows all aspects of an allegory. According to Merriam Webster, an allegory is a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one. Through this work, Hawthorne is able to depict the apparent hypocrisy in today s world and especially in religion in America. The story is of a man, Young Goodman Brown, who is highly tempted by the devil himself and in the end caves to the pressure due to his lack of faith and even due to a little curiosity. Brown could not help but wonder what this new world could potentially behold for him; unfortunately, his curiosity didn t change him for the better, only for the worse. The ceremony and changing opened his eyes and made him see the true colors of those around him. We see how Brown loses faith in the people in his community, his family, and especially in himself. We first see Browns opinion on those around him when he shows up to the ceremony in the woods and thinks that It was strange to see that the good shrank not from the wicked, nor were the sinners abashed by the saints. (Hawthorne 1128). This is when Brown first realizes that some of the people he believes complete saints truly weren t, but rather were sinners in disguise. It was said that when Brown first came onto the streets after the ceremony, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Different Theories For Storm Electrification Essay In order to produce lightning, a cloud must first become electrified. Cloud electrification must occur on two spatial scales. First, a small scale process that charges individual hydrometeors must occur. Second, a large (~5 km) scale process that effectively separates the charges by polarity. There are several primary theories of how storms become electrified. These include a convective mechanism, and inductive mechanism, and lastly a precipitationor non inductive mechanism. These three theories for storm electrification, including their strengths and shortcomings, will be discussed below. 2.4.1 Convective Mechanism In the convective mechanism, charge comes from fair weather space charge and corona near the ground and cosmic rays near the upper atmosphere. Updrafts carry positive space charge to the top of the cloud. Negative charge near the top is attracted to the positive charge and is carried down by downdrafts. The negative charge then produces corona at the ground, yielding positive charge that can be carried by updrafts. However, models show that not nearly enough charge is produced for a typical thunderstorm from this mechanism. Further, it is unclear how this accounts for the temperature dependence of the charge structure (MacGorman and Rust 1998). Thus, the convective mechanism does not explain the primary charging mechanism. 2.4.2 Induction Mechanism Historically, one of the earliest theories for cloud electrification was an inductive mechanism. ... • 6. Hooke s Law And Simple Harmonic Oscillations College physics II Laboratory Experiment 2 Hooke s law and simple harmonic oscillations by Mohamed Omer Lab Partners Youssef Farlos Roman Martinaz Jhon Fanque Date performed January 18, 2015 Introduction/ Abstract: Simple harmonic motion is the study of oscillation. An object undergoes oscillation when it experiences a restoring force which restores this object to equilibrium positon. The Simple harmonic oscillation occurs when the net force on an object along the direction of motion is proportional to the object s displacement and in the opposite direction by this equation F = kx. In addition, an object whose position time graph makes a sine or cosine function is in simple harmonic motion. This type of relation is called Hooke s law. The purpose of this experiment is to prove Hooke s law and study Simple harmonic motion and to show that this equation T = 2 is valid during Simple harmonic motion. Theory: The relevant theoretical concepts and equations used in this experiment are: T = 2 | E1 в€’ E2 | E1 + E2 2 K= Percent difference = Experimental Procedure:

  • 8. The Intake Of Synthetic Sugar Once ingested, sugar causes blood glucose levels to frequently spike and drop. When blood sugar is unstable, it can lead to headaches, fatigue, and mood swings. Low blood sugar triggers the release of hormones such as adrenaline, epinephrine, and cortisol, inducing stress. Furthermore, sugar elicits the release of dopamine, causing it to be somewhat of an addictive substance. Adrenaline and epinephrine are chemicals which allow the sinoatrial node to fire more frequently, preparing the body for intense physical activity. Sugar absorption therefore engenders irregular firing of the sinoatrial node, even when the body is not preparing for physical activity. A normal resting heart rateranges between 60 100 bpm, but can vary still depending on many factors, including levels of activity and athleticism. Active heart rate is even more variable, greatly depending on exercise intensity. Generally speaking, however, a healthy target range is below 220 bpm. The purpose of this experiment is to find out how the intake of synthetic sugar may have an effect on both resting and active heart rate. This should allow an understanding of the effects sugar can have on the body as well as providing insight concerning the negativity towards excessive portions of this particular substance. Hypothesis If one consumes a relatively high amount of sugar, then the average rate at which the heart beats, both in resting and active circumstances, would increase because sugar causes blood glucose ... In The Past, Gender Roles Specialization As So Pronounced In the past, gender roles specialization as so pronounced that females and males had very different roles and responsibilities assigned to them. In most of the cultures, men were the breadwinners while women were house managers and assuming the roles of caregivers. However, in the contemporary world, material foundations linked to gender rolespecialization have weakened with the caretaking work that was used to define females disappearing. Nevertheless, studying gender role specialization from a sociological viewpoint, it is evident that gender norms are still in existence. This can be explained using the study by Parsons and Bales on the contribution of the familystructure in socio economic context. According to Parsons and Bales,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of industrialization and modernization, the American society is shaped with changes evidenced in the family unit. For instance, today s families are nuclear and thus separated from their extended kin. Today s typical American family consists of a husband, a wife, and the dependent children (Schulte 17). Based on the explanation given by Parsons and Bales, a nuclear family as a functioning system depends and requires successful performance of roles and equilibrium. This is extended further by Hochschild who argues that the major roles in today s nuclear family are provision of income, creating and maintaining relationships with family and friends, caring for the children, socializing children, cleaning the house, disciplining the children, and preparing food (91). However, while Parsons and Bales divide gender roles into instrumental and expressive ones, this difference is not noted in the current society in which any of the gender can perform any role to ensure equilibrium and sustainability of the current nuclear family unit. In the traditional gender role division explained by Parsons and Bales, the roles by men and women in the family are separated. Using the classical sociological view, even though men perform caregiving roles, these are instrumental and managerial in nature. In order to care for their families, the role of men is instrumental as they work in their careers to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such a description consists of certain laws of nature, which summarize observed patterns, and theories (Peshkin 46). Science and religion are the main components of the ongoing national debate about the teaching of evolution in our public schools (Peshkin 46).Various religions reject or ignore the contributions of science, arguing that science displaces God, questions religious belief, and degrades morality (Molloy 547). Others disagree, appreciating science and the important information that has broadened our knowledge by providing explanations for natural phenomenon, and continuously enriching our lives. If public school teachers want to inform students about creationism, they should do so in a religion class, not a science class. Intelligent design or Creationism, as typically viewed on by its American advocates, draws on a literal interpretation of the Judeo Christian tradition that the world is no more than 6,000 years old and that all species of life on the planet were created over a period of 6 days by a monotheistic deity (Overton 934). In contrast, evolutionary theory maintains that biological life originated by way of a natural selection process over billions of years (Morris 78).The concept of evolution, since its inception as a scientific theory through publication of Charles Darwin s Origin of Species in 1859, has faced religious opposition (Verma 206). Intelligent Design has been gaining acceptance in the United States. According to a series of polls, conducted during the last 25 years, about 50% Americans believe in the original form of Creationism (Lewontin, 2005). Former President Bush agreed to teaching evolution and intelligent design side by side in science classes (Dawkins Coyne, 2005). It was also discovered that pigs can understand basic symbolic language and learn multiple signs for actions as well as placing coloured pig shaped blocks in the correct coloured holes on a wooden board. • 15. The Iliad s Ending Essay Homer s Iliad is commonly understood as an epic about the Trojan War, but its meaning goes deeper than that. The Iliad is not only a story of the evolution of Achilleus persona, but at times it is an anti war epic as well. The final book proposes many questions to the reader. Why not end with the killing of Hektor? Most stories of war conclude with the triumphant victory of good over evil, but in the Iliad, the final thoughts are inclined to the mourning of the defeated Hektor, which accentuates the fact that good has not triumphed over evil, but simply Achilleus triumphed over Hektor. Ending with the mourning of Hektor also brings to center stage for the first time the human side of war and the harsh aftermath of it. We see that war... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pain is exemplified even further with the speech of Andromache, wife of Hektor. With this we see for one of the first times the importance of family to the Trojans. Andromache s suffering is extreme and harsh. When she says, But for me passing all others is left the bitterness and the pain, it shows the importance of the husband to the wife. This speech is very pivotal in depicting the bleak future for the widows whose husbands left them behind to die in search of honor. Now that the husbands are dead, the once noble wives and children must go work as slaves, once their city is sacked. Andromache and Astyanax are doomed to lead a wretched life, because their protector is dead. Such is the nature of war. Were Homer to end with the killing of Hektor and Achilleus triumph, the melancholy aftermath would be totally neglected. Another effect of Homer s final book of the Iliad is it affirms the thought that neither Achilleus nor Hektor are the bad guy, but both are worthy of glory and praise. A fair generalization about heroic stories is that the good guy always win. It is clichГ©, and very common, but it is a fact. The Iliad goes beyond this commonplace, by pitting two forces against each other, none of which can be characterized as the good guy or the bad guy. Many people love him during his first years of president, and he was remembered for two major conflicts, the Battle of the Alamo in 1836 during the Texas Revolution, and as a restored Mexican leader during the Mexican American War in 1847 (tshaonline.org). The prestige of Santa Anna in 1829 helped him to gain the presidency in 1833. In 1829 he fought against Spain s attempt to conquer Mexico, and after his victory everyone looked at him as a good leader. His victory from Spain makes him immediately turn over power. At that time the vice president was ValentГn GГіmez FarГas, and allowed him to make some reforms, including many that aimed at the Catholic Church and the army. Because the people of Mexico do not accept his reforms, Santa Anna stepped in and removed GГіmez FarГas from power, and consequently he gained the presidency in 1833 as a Federalist and opponent of Roman Catholic Church. The story Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne depicts a man whose inner desire is to experience the evil forbidden forest, as well as retaining his image as a, good and honest Christian. This internal conflict is also portrayed in the movie No Country for Old Men, which was directed and written by the Coen brothers. In the movie the main character, Llewellyn Moss, is confronted with the moral dilemma of either keeping the drug money he found or calling the police. Although he morally makes the wrong decision, he still tries to maintain his values and character. The good willed sheriff (Ed Tom Bell) was always doing his best to prevent Moss from getting himself killed, and also wanted to put a stop to the increasing drug related violence in the country. The point of disequilibrium in the movie occurs when Moss discovers the bust drug deal and the money. Moss and Bell were both honest and decent hearted characters (for the most part), and they both were very reminiscent of Goodman Brown. All three characters share same characteristic of honesty, and determination that they will beat conflict confronting them. Hawthrone s story climax is when Goodman Brown first discovers his wife s hair ribbon in the forest, and then finally sees her in the evil sermon. The resolution is that when Goodman Brown returns to the Salem again he becomes estranged with this wife and social circle, and becomes very paranoid. The climax is No Country for Old Men is when Moss faces off with the hitman and escapes to a motel where other members of the gang eventually murder him. Each sentence in the Mending Wall is not interesting merely in conveying a meaning of words, it does much more by conveying a meaning by its tone. If we were to go back far enough in history we would discover that the sound of sense (tone) existed before words, that there was something in the voice or vocal gesture made by primitive man that conveyed a meaning to his companions before man developed a more elaborate method of communication. Coordination failures by private markets are perceived to contribute significantly in inefficiency. Negative externalities like environmental pollution and positive externalities like focusing on public benefits and ignoring the private benefits significantly contribute to market failures. Fundamental questions have been raised to determine the appropriate time government intervention is required and the magnitude of inefficiency to warrant supposedly intervention or to let the market correct itself. As well as appealing to the idea to maintain an upscale image by any means such as purchasing expensive merchandise and taking the initiative to attend upscale restaurants. His actions with the implications of those elements reveal the consumptions of status and privilege. As well as providing two scenes that suggest that theme resulting in those two sub points. Not to mention, I intend to present several transitional periods in the novel going back and forward from first illustrating Bateman s disappearance of control to then aiming to recover it by inflicting pain on others. Then, bring to an end how his actions can be understood and how it affects what readers can take away from the novel. Consumption can be seen in the reading as the fixation on acquiring materials, or upholding an image. This aspect is crucial to the novel American Violence because it motivates/contributes to the actions of each character. For instance, the text states, In the early light of a May dawn this is what the living room of my apartment looks like...A glass top coffee table with oak legs with by Turchin sits in front of the sofa, with Steuben glass animals, placed strategically around expensive crystal ashtrays from Fortunoff, though I don t smoke (Ellis 25). This passage represents consumption focusing on the fixation on acquitting materials. For the reason that mentioning, with crystal ashtrays... though I don t smoke indications how that item, in particular, is not beneficial for Bateman since he does not smoke. For example, the greek used by Mark s author is unpolished which in turn leads to the authors of Matthew and Luke refining the material they borrow from Mark. Mark s author also makes use of catchwords to link stories in his gospel. However, Mark s most noticeable literary feature is also the most infuriating and confusing for the orderly. While on the surface Peter s denial and Jesusact of concealing his identity may appear arbitrary, Mark uses devices such as compound stories to reveal the method behind the madness. Jesus repeatedly commands the demons, his disciples, and the people he healed not to inform anyone who he is. As readers of the twenty first century, Jesus instructions bewilder us, yet with careful reasoning, some explanations for Jesus behavior come to mind. First, Jesus most likely demanded the demons to not disclose his identity because demons are not credible sources and their words should not be used as a foundation for faith for those who hear. Additionally, if demons were the ones spreading the gospel truth that Jesus was the Son of God, the scribes argument that Jesus was possessed by Beelzebul would have been enforced and Jesus ministry would have suffered a devastating impact (Mark 3:22). Second, Jesus may have instructed his disciples not to proclaim his identity because the people weren t ready to hear it. The disciples were ready and able to understand the true implication of Jesus being the Messiah, but others were not. Finally, Jesus advised those he healed not to announce who healed them because of the multitude of people that would have inevitably swarmed him. Hordes of people make it harder to teach and also attract the attention of some unwanted authorities ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Allowing women to work would not only give the women justice to their entitled freedom from the Constitution but will help the men out in their respective households. The workloads and family s economic burdens would not only be the man s problem, the women could help the family out by working in the workforce also. Women worked while the men were off to work during the World War II and took care of the families, why should they stop what they started and have learned? China has another form of notation called Gongche. Gongche is written in traditional Chinese characters that represent the note or part of solfege that should be played. However, recently there are forms of writing musiccalled Jianpu, which are numbered notations that represent the note that needs to be played. Jianpu is a simplified version of Gongche, however, instead of using Chinese characters, numbers are used to represent a solfege. In standard American staff notation, there are different notes that are placed on a series of five lines that represent different notes. At the beginning of the line, there are symbols that show... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In gongche, every character represents a note, which makes up their solfege. To tell how much strength each note should be played for, there are accents placed on top of the characters, and a tiny open circle placed under them. The accent on top of the note means that it is weaker than a normal note, and the open circle means that it is stronger. This is done to assist with the rhythm of the overall piece. These marks are made for the percussion, instructing them to take the rhythmic lead. In the simplified, Jianpu notation, the numbers represent the notes position on the solfege. The scales that are represented here are major and minor. When the dot is placed on top of a number, it means it should be raised to the higher octave, and underneath means a lower one. In this system, the length of the note played is shown to the musician by dashes placed underneath the number. This indicates an equivalent of half and quarter notes. There are also zeroes that can be found on the musical piece, this means that there is a rest. Similarly to staff notation, the meter is established by the vertical line after a certain number of ...
