Ancient Stories Of The Sumerians
The Sumerians Although, we widely attribute the ancient stories of the Sumerians to pure mythology,
they went to great lengths to understand and create a way to record their history, society structure, and
development; just as we do for historical events today. The most accepted view on what makes a
culture civilized or having obtained civilization is a culture which has attained a degree of complexity,
usually characterized by urban life (Guisepi). As far as the Sumerian culture is concerned, they created
our foundation for what we consider today, as the standards for civilization. Even though human
exploration and discoveries continue to uncover previously unknown chapters of our story here on
earth, the extensive amount of archeological evidence we have for the Sumerians and time frame,
allow us to accredit them for over 100 firsts for the human civilization from their ingenuities,
accomplishments, and inventions. Many of which we can still see in use, in some form, in our modern
society today. According to Samuel Kramer, For those not familiar with this remarkable, resourceful
and intelligent people, who not only invented writing but also established the true mythological
foundations of all main religions of the world, simply put, they taught us almost everything . The
Sumerians settled in Mesopotamia around 4000 BCE. between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, which
is known today, as southern Iraq. Notice the word settled in the previous sentence. Recent

A Brief Look at Utilitarianism
Utilitarianism is an attractive philosophy which claims to replace arbitrary seeming rules by a morality
with a single coherent basis. As the most common form of consequentialism, based on the pursuit of
the greatest happiness of the greatest number, it argues that acts should be judged as right or wrong
according to their consequences. Because happiness is the only thing that is good in itself, and
unhappiness is the only thing that is inherently bad, everything else is only good or bad according to
its tendency to produce happiness or unhappiness. In a business type system, utilitarianism is also
attractive as a means of decision making in which the majority must choose wisely. This type of
decision making may have a positive effect on what action to take, but at the same time it might have
a cost that would not be taken lightly by a business.
From an engineer s and company s stand point, Utilitarianism would best fit, for the simple reason that
it will satisfy everyone, because it is more of a general theory, with a large margin area of company
and consumer satisfaction. Where other theories might be more specific to the situation, with
utilitarianism almost all fits within the category. This may be a good thing for a company, but at the
same time, one of the difficulties with the utilitarian standard is that it seems to sometimes favor the
greater aggregate good at the expense of a vulnerable minority; the minority being the company s
consumer (Rabins).

Literary Criticism Of Jane Eyre
Psychoanalytic Literary Criticism of Jane Eyre: Deviated Transcendancy De Keukelaere, a respected
literary criticist, defines deviated transcendancy as idolatry that detracts from the relationship between
the subject and God. Especially in the Victorian era, God was mandated to be the main focus of a life
lived well. Those who put others before Him were shunned as heathens, and not given the happily
ever after that the godly women did. Jane, in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre, places her love of
Rochester above her love and devotion to God, which drags her down a spiral of despair. According to
Katherine Bubel s Transcending the Triangle of Desire: Eros and the Fulfillment of Love in
Middlemarch and Jane Eyre , this idolation of Rochester is why Jane s life takes the plunges it does, as
her transcendancy to a higher state of living is threatened by her devotion to the metaphysical. The
imprisonment of triangular desire , as Bubel claims, is trapping Jane, Rochester, and St. John, and in
order to have a healthy relationship with Jane they all, Jane included, must ren[ounce] deviated
transcendancy (Bubel 296). While Bubel is correct in that the relationships between both Jane and
Rochester and Jane and St. John are strained due to their obsessions with possessing her as their own,
I do not concur with the conclusion that this is due to a lack of morality; rather that the selfish
motivations of both Rochester and St. John are deleterious to Jane s psyche and prey upon

Essay on Machiavelli’s The Prince and the Modern Executive
The Prince and the Modern Executive
Few question The Prince s place in the canon of western literature. That it marks a turning point in our
collective history, the origin of the study of politics as a science (Pollock 43), is alone enough to
warrant its classification as a Great Book. Its author, Niccolo Machiavelli, a contemporary of
Copernicus, is generally accepted as an early contributor to the scientific revolution, because he
looked at power and the nature of sovereignty through the eyes of a scientist, focused completely on
the goal without regard for religion and morals and ethics. Machiavelli taught that the way princes
actually do govern often differs substantially from than the way they ought to govern, according to ...

A corporation has its king and its barons, its courtiers and ambassadors, its loyalists and its dissident
elements, its allies and its enemies. What is important to our application of his principles of statecraft
to the business world is not the superficial differences but the underlying unity. Modern corporations
that are successful and well managed do not necessarily operate in harmony with the personal morality
of their employees and for the general good of their communities. Similarly, firms which pollute the
environment or ask their employees to lie are not always forced into bankruptcy.
The individualism and secularism that characterized the Italian Renaissance are dominant themes in
Machiavelli s thinking. His use of historical examples throughout The Prince demonstrates an
extensive knowledge of Greek and Roman history and is consistent with the new found love for
antiquity of the Renaissance. Machiavelli was, in every sense of the word, a true renaissance man. He
appears to be remarkably well educated, although limited finances probably prevented him from
studying at a major university. As a result, the effect of humanist teachings, prevalent at most of the
institutions of higher learning at the time, on Machiavelli was limited. Machiavelli s knowledge of
specific details of politics is primarily the culmination of a life long career as a bureaucrat and
diplomat.

Sport Psychology
tExercise is an accessible method of fulfilling a person s physical goals which they have for their own
body. Humans are capable of engaging in a variety of exercises including running, playing a game of
volleyball, or even surfing. In spite of the many physical accomplishments which humans can gain
from physical exercise, people are also capable of encountering many psychological benefits from
doing so. Studies have shown that exercising release certain chemicals in our brain that results in a

Another technique which individuals can use is autogenic training which centers a human to produce
warmth and heaviness, that can eventually leads to a state of relaxation.
Another technique that can be applied to one s life in order to help one to regulate arousal during
performance is called multimodal anxiety reduction packages. A well known form of this anxiety
reducing technique is called stress management training. SMT consists of applying relaxation and
cognitive components to one s form of coping responses to emotional arousal that may arise within.
Another example of a multidomal anxiety reduction that may fortify one s way of coping with stress is
through stress inoculation training. This particular training involves exposing a human to stressful
components, including mental images, and self statements, that fortifies a human s resistance to stress.
Therefore, as mentioned before, arousal regulation is a particular coping mechanism which athletes
can greatly benefit them in order to excel in their physical and mental performance when playing a
sport. Studies have shown that these anxiety reducing techniques greatly benefit individuals while
working under pressure. Somatic anxiety reduction consists of becoming aware of one s physical

The Great Sports Team
Greatness can be defined in three words, success , hard work and determination. The 1998 New York
Yankees lived up to every single one of those three traits. They are the greatest sports team of all time
because they won the World Series yet again with Paul o neil and Tino Martinez who drove in one
hundred and sixteen and one hundred twenty three runs. They have continuously proven themselves
according to the Forbes website showing their tremendous records in statistics which shows just how
talented the team really is even through these years. The Yankees outscored opponents that year by 309
runs, or almost two runs per game. Every member of their primary everyday lineup had an on base
percentage of at least .350.1998 was the season of home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Going by that stat alone, you could claim the 1998 Yankees were the best team ever. The Yankees set
an American League record for the most wins in a single season with a 114 48 record, and finished 22
games above the second place Red Sox which is very impressive. During that season everyone seen
David Wells throw a perfect game against the Twins, and Bernie Williams win the batting title with a
.339 average. The Yankees broke quite a few records making them the greatest sports team of all time.
Paul O neil was a huge factor of their 1998 World Series win because he led the Yankees into the
World Series where they won against the San Diego Padres in a 4 game sweep and helped the team
win a record 125 games. Game 1 was where the Yankees win was highlighted by a seven run rally in
the bottom of the seventh inning that put the Yankees ahead for good in a 9 6 win. O Neill was then 0
for 5. But that did not discourage him because the second game was a blow out where O Neill singled
once in five at bats and scored a run. Later in Game 3, the Yankees were down 3 0 heading into their
half of the seventh inning. In the eighth inning, O Neill walked and later scored on Brosius second
home run of the game, a three run shot that put New York ahead for good. The Yankees completed the

Newsworthiness of Child Abuse Cases
Society is now what Downing, Mohammadi and Mohammadi (1990) would call a media culture , this
is where the perceptions and images of reality are often shaped by the actions and decisions of news
editors and producers (Surrette, 1992). The role of the media according to O Shaughnessy and Stadler
(2008) is to give the public an insight on what is happening in the world and to make sense of that
information to the public. The main focus of this essay will be looking two main concepts which are
newsworthiness and the dark figure of crime, relating 5 news articles that are centred around child
abuse that have featured in the New Zealand Herald and stuff.co.nz.
The media plays an important role in society by creating and shaping society s attitudes about most
current issues including child abuse. In New Zealand, as well as in the international media, the
physical abuse of a child regularly features in the newspapers, magazines, radio and television
(Merchant, 2010). When it comes to the public understanding of child abuse, this is influenced by the
knowledge that they gain through reading newspapers or mass media like the television or radio.
Kitzinger (2004) states that our individual view and sense of the world are a social construct and the
media are an important resource to help us construct that world view.
The way that child abuse is reported in the media has become what you would call entertainment
where there seems to be an incline towards dramatising child abuse in a

Chemical Warfare During The First World War
Chemical Warfare in the First World War The First World War, while engulfing Europe with four years
of death and destruction, also served as something of a testing ground, allowing nations to test and
deploy the newest and most high tech weapons in their arsenals. It is from these experiences, on the
bitter, mud drenched fields of Flanders, Eastern Europe, and elsewhere, that many technologies that
shape the modern battlefield today, such as the air plane or the tank, were first put to use on a grand
scale. It is here too, that another weapon was unleashed upon humanity for first time, but this one was
deemed so sinister that the nations of the world near unanimously agreed to ban once the war ended. A
weapon so awful that even today, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its use, however, despite its non lethality, served to set a dangerous precedent for the war. German
planners wasted no time in developing their own incapacitating agents to retaliate with, and before
long something of a chemical weapons arms race was underway. The German chemical response
finally came that October, when British forces at Neuve Chapelle were hit with a wave of xylyl
bromide, and apparently the Germans like what they saw. In January, they decided to turn their new
weapon against the Russian army, in what they hoped would send their opponents running beneath a
thick cloud of tear gas. To create this cloud, nearly 20,000 shells were filled with teargas and
unleashed on the Russian positions west of Warsaw. Unfortunately for the Germans, however, they did
not take into account the frigid conditions that occur in Central Poland in July, and most of the gas
froze, the shells harmlessly falling to earth amongst a bewildered Czarist force. In light of the
developments on the Eastern Front, as well as the fact that xylyl bromide was found to corrode metals
and thus posed a logistics nightmare for the men transporting the shells, the German army began
looking for alternatives and finally

How Does Global Warming Affect Polar Bears
One problem created by global warming is the diminishing natural habitat of the Polar Bear. Increased
greenhouse gas emissions are warming the earth, and shrinking the polar ice caps. The polar ice caps
are the natural habitat for the polar bear. With the loss of this critical habitat it could inhibit the future
survival of this species.
In 2008 the bears were listed by the U.S. Endangered Species Act due to global warming (1). This
listing happened because of the ongoing loss of critical habitat for polar bears survival. The arctic sea
ice sheets are the primary habitat for the bear. The bear lives, and hunts exclusively on these arctic ice
sheets. Increasing global temperatures in the world s oceans are shrinking the arctic ice for longer
periods of time during the late summer months, leaving polar bears with limited hunting and breeding

The increased bear population maybe a counterintuitive fact, but the data clearly outlines decreased
bear habitats will lead to dramatic population loses. Reported declines in Polar Bear cub populations
in Hudson Bay, Alaska in last the last decade are alarming. While older bears are strong enough to
survive leaner years caused by climatic change, the younger bears cannot survive these challenging
years. In the article, Future sea ice conditions in Western Hudson Bay and Consequences for polar
bears in the 21st century outlines the bears basic needs for sea ice:
In the southernmost parts of polar bear range in Hudson Bay, Canada, the absence of sea ice during
summer forces polar bears onshore for 3 4 months each year. On land, polar bears have no access to
their preferred and high energy content prey, ringed seals and bearded seals. In Hudson Bay, polar
bears survive the ice free season on fat stores accumulated while hunting these marine mammals on

The Red Queen s character is seen as an antagonist, the opposing force to Alice s adventures. Upon
their first encounter in this story the queen explains the rules of her kingdom as like the rules of a
game of chess, as a story and game of advancement and promotion. Alice is like a pawn piece and can
move up the board in such a way that she too can become the queen, like as in chess the queen can
move effortlessly in whatever manner she likes. The queen perturbs Alice into an endless run with
Alice having no real direction of where she is heading and meeting other strange characters along the
way which develops her idea of the impossible being possible. Elizabeth Pearce, a curator and writer
for MONA states; the Red Queen exhibition asks us to consider whether doing something without a

Queen arrives at MONA 2013) This exhibition, takes us into the realms of the science behind the
theme. The evolutionary concept that in the earlier 20thcentury scientist s believed there was an end

The Perceptions Of Black Males
The Perceptions of Black Males in College
Kwesi N. Luke
Liberty University
Abstract
African American males in higher education have captured the attention of researchers; sadly,
exhausted amount of research has focused primarily on the failing black male, while little has been
done to address the problem. This paper focuses on factors that influence the perceptions and self
esteem of African American males in higher education, and explore why their educational
achievements are overwhelmingly lower than any other racial/ethnic group. Specifically, this review
focuses on how research in education or the lack thereof has contributed to this particular issue. The
review of literature in this paper leads to two research questions: (1) What efforts if any have been
directed to address the negative outcomes of black males in higher education? (2) What other external
factors have prevented black males from achieving their objectives at a lower rate than any other
racial or ethnic group? The following 10 reviews attempt to answer the above questions.
Keywords: Black males in higher education, failing black males, Education attainment among black
men, Scholarly journals on black men in education, why black men fail, external factors affecting
black males in education.

Analysis Of The Garden Of Earthly Delights
Art is all around us and whether we notice it or not we are always evaluating, deconstructing, and
deciding on if we like it or not. The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch is a triptych
done in the Renaissance period. A triptych is a painting or relief carving that has three different panels
and are hinged together side by side. I first came across this painting in my art history class in high
school and from then on I loved it due to all the imagery, colors, and the overall meaning that it had.
Ever since then this artwork has left a big imprint and got me to think about art as much more than a
picture, but to look at it as a whole and analyze it. This painting always seemed interesting and
intriguing for a couple of reasons. There are many themes going on, the colors are very monochrome
but yet look vivid and life like, and it has a very deep meaning with the themes of mortality, sin, and
shows the end results for evil doings. The triptych has three different panels and all three have their
own story to tell. When the triptych is closed and both left and right sections are shut you see the
world in tones of gray or neutral colors. At the uppermost left corner of the closed sections you can
see a depiction of God looking down at the world with an open book in his hands. The first one on the
left tells the story of how God introduced Adam to Eve. They are shown to be in a beautiful and
surreal looking location which is thought to be paradise. Adam, Eve, and God

Analysis of My Dietary Intake

From my 3 day dietary report, I found out that my average intake of Alpha Tocopherol, otherwise
known as vitamin E, is far from my goal intake. Based on the analysis, my goal daily intake should be
15 mg but my actual intake is 3.22 mg, which is far from enough. In this paper, I will analyze the
reason for my low intake and how to change this situation by improving my diet. Looking at my daily
intake, I realize I have only been consuming one third of what I should be having of vitamin E.

In my current diet, there is a sufficient lack of fresh vegetables, which are high in vitamin E. Since
most of the food I ate are either deep fried or cooked with high heat in the cooking process (for
example vegetable stew), the heat destroys vitamin E. Firstly, I can change my way of eating
vegetables from cooked product to salads. Salad dressing and shortening are high in Vitamin E, and
they are easily found in the school cafeteria. Salad with dressing can provide me with most of the
vitamin E I need, 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise made from safflower contains 3.0 mg of it and 1 teaspoon
of canola oil contains 2.4 mg. Vegetables themselves also contain vitamin E, if I have salad twice a
day that will take up to half of what is needed everyday. Another reason I am not getting enough is
because I eat a lot of white bread and white long grained rice, which all have the grain germ removed
during production. However, wheat germ is a good source of vitamin E; therefore, if I switch from
white bread to whole wheat bread and white rice to brown rice, it will increase my vitamin E intake.
Since 30 grams of wheat germ contain 6 mg of vitamin E, by introducing them into my diet I will
make up the other half of my daily need for it. As for snacks, I could start eating more nuts since they
only contribute to a small amount, it will make up for days where intakes are

originally was not to the core focus for the dedication of the military cemetery at Gettysburg; however,
this speech eventually became one of the most famous speeches in the history of America (Net). In
this speech, Lincoln, if you will, changed the meaning of portions of the Declaration of Independence
and the intentions of our Founding Fathers. He illustrated the significance of the war and the
abolishment of slavery. He reiterated that the Founding Father s included that all men are created

Aztec Civilization Essay
The Aztec Indians created a great civilization in Central Mexico, reaching its peak in the 1500
amp;#8217;s. Being late arrivals to the area, and because of their strong neighboring nations, they
were forced to live in the swampy western areas of the Lake Texcoco. Because of the swampy
surroundings, the Aztecs used mud to create miniature islands in the swamps. These islands are called
chinampas, or amp;#8220;floating gardens, ; and were used as farming lands. On these fertile islands
they grew corn, squash, vegetables, and flowers.
Being an agriculturally dependant empire, the Aztec amp;#8217;s religion was based highly on the
forces of nature and worshipped them as gods. The god of war, Huitzilopochtli, was the most
important deity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the stone is a picture of what the Aztecs thought the universe was like. The sun god is in the
middle, with the heavens surrounding it, and pictures of people made out of precious stones. The
Aztec form of writing was in pictographs, or small pictures symbolizing objects or sounds. The Aztec
numbering system used pictographs also, and was based on the number 20. For example, a flag
represented 20, a fir tree represented 20 times 20, or 400, and a pouch represented 400 times 20, or
8000. The capitol of the Aztec Empire was Tenochtitlan, which was built where modern day Mexico
City is. It was given the nickname amp;#8220;Venice of the New World, ; because it had many canals.
During the acme of the Aztec civilization, the population of this great city numbered more than
200,000. This made it one of the most populated cities in the ancient world. The city was connected to
the mainland by 3 causeways, which, when flooded, served as protective dikes. In the city aqueducts,
which was probably the first type of indoor plumbing, brought fresh water into homes. Many people
used canoes to travel through the city. Most of the houses were made up of mud and twisted twigs, but
the nobility and priests had plastered brick or stone houses.
In 1519, Spanish explorer Hernando Cortes and more than 500 other Spaniards landed on the shores of
Mexico in search of gold. The Aztecs welcomed the Spaniards and gave them gifts, because they
thought they were gods. Cortes became greedy when he

Essay On Mining Moving Object
There have been many recent studies on mining moving object. These studies have focused on two
categories of research: moving object cluster discovery and trajectory clustering. Moving objects
clustering means a group of object travels together where locations are not defined. Trajectory
clustering refers a group of locations based on similar objects traveling though traveling time is not
considered. Li et al. cite{li2010swarm}, propose the concept of temporal moving objects swarms,
which captures the moving objects move within an arbitrary shape of clusters for certain timestamps
that are non consecutive. Laube et al. cite{laube2002analyzing} first introduced flock and the flock

Trajectory clustering with probabilistic modeling of a set of trajectories is proposed in
papercite{gaffney2007probabilistic}. Whole trajectories may miss interesting common paths in sub
trajectories. Lee et al. cite{lee2007trajectory} proposed a partition and group framework that finds
out an interesting common path in sub trajectories. Mao et al. cite{mao2016mining} proposed mining
spatiotemporal patterns of urban dwellers from taxi trajectory data. The method involves three critical
steps that are discover potentially meaningful locations using spatial clustering of taxi origin
destination, identifying perfect parameter values to extract jobs housing urban infrastructure and
visualization of this spatial distribution and temporal trends of the revealed urban infrastructure.
Another swarms mining method on big spatiotemporal trajectories using MapReduce cite{yu2016mr}
has been proposed to mine swarm pattern. They propose a parallel model based on timeset
independent property where data sets are divided based on time and creates local swarm patterns.
Even though, combining these local swarms, global swarms have been created. Our observation is that
partitioning datasets based on time lost data consistence and significant number of patterns removed
from local swarms and in addition in huge number of datasets, map and reduce process takes extra
time for mapping and reducing. Chen et al. cite{chen2017mining}

Between the pool and the Gardenias portrays the story of a poor woman that finds an abandoned baby
on the street and decides to keep her. The story is set in Haiti, a poor country consumed by
malnutrition, abandonment, and suffering. Edwidge Danticat uses the main character, a poor, lower
class, black woman from Ville Rose, to make a political commentary on the situation in Haiti. The
story suggests the desire of poor people to escape their harsh reality and become consumed in a world
outside their own.
Danticat makes various social commentaries in Between the Pool and the Gardenias. The story begins
by describing a baby left abandoned in the middle of the street. It seems she has been left there for at
least hours without anyone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the woman finds the baby, she acknowledges all the signs that the baby is dead but seems to
create a separate reality. She becomes delusional and takes the baby in as if it was hers; feeding,
bathing, and caring for it constantly. She even imagines that the house she is a mid in belongs to her,
the baby, and the pool man. In the end she says We made a pretty picture standing there. Rose, me, and
him. The woman s delusional state is provoked by her inability to maintain a family. She desperately
wanted a family of her own. The author constantly uses words like my and mine that show possession.
The woman s way of coping with tremendous loss and suffering was creating an alternate world.
Danticat adds the woman s escape from reality to portray the desperate desire of Haitians to prosper
from a life of poverty. Becoming delusional was the only way many people could cope with the
horrors of the government. Under the rule of Dictator Jean Claude Baby Doc Duvalier, Haiti
underwent horrific and traumatizing events. Many hatians like the woman of the story, learned to
disconnect herself from the ghastly situations and escape into a better life. Danticat adds another
example of this in the story. She describes My grandmother Defile who died with a bald head in a
prison because God had given her wings. Her grandmother had been a victim of the 1937 massacre at
the border of Dominican Republic.

However, that will only be the case for a short time in World War II, specifically the Piper YO 59 is

Architectural Engineering
There are 25 major specialties in engineering that are recognized by professional societies. In any one
of those 25 specialties, the goal of the engineer is the same. The goal is to be able to come up with a
cost effective design that aids people in the tasks they face each day. Whether it be the coffee machine
in the morning or the roads and highways we travel, or even the cars we travel in, it was all an idea
that started with an engineer. Someone engineered each idea to make it the best solution to a problem.
Even though engineer s goals are similar, there are many different things that engineers do within their
selected field of engineering. This paper will focus on the architectural field of engineering. Like all

Some employers regard technology program graduates as having skills between those of a technician
and an engineer. Bachelor s degree programs in architectural engineering are typically designed to last
4 years, but many students find that it takes between 4 and 5 years to complete their studies. In a
typical 4 year college curriculum, the first 2 years are spent studying mathematics, basic sciences,
introductory engineering, humanities, and social sciences. In the last 2 years, most courses deal with
the aspects of engineering, with a concentration in architectural engineering. Some programs offer a
general engineering curriculum; students then specialize in graduate school or on the job. Some
engineering schools and 2 year colleges have agreements whereby the 2 year college provides the
initial engineering education; and the engineering school automatically admits students for their last 2
years. In addition, a few engineering schools have arrangements, whereby a student spends 3 years in
a liberal arts college studying pre engineering subjects and 2 years in an engineering school studying
core subjects, and then receives a bachelor s degree from each school. Some colleges and universities
offer 5 year master s degree programs. Some 5 or even 6 year cooperative plans combine classroom
study and practical work, permitting students to gain valuable experience and finance part of their
education. Beginning architectural

Payton s Babe Ruth
Is it a bird... is it a plane... it s a baseball! The game of baseball was invented by a person by the name
of Abner Doubleday in 1839. Since then, baseball has become competitive, exciting and full of
memorable moments. Baseball is one of America s most popular sports. It takes skilled players to
make the game entertaining and fun. Some skilled players include: Jackie Robinson, Ty Cobb, Willie
Mays, Lou Gehrig and Stan Musial. But none of these players are as good as Babe Ruth. George
Herman Ruth was born on February 6, 1895 in a small house in Baltimore, Maryland. George grew up
a bum, living on the streets of the Baltimore waterfront. George was a disrespectful kid that always
ran away from school. He also smoked and played pranks on people. One day, a man named Brother
Matthias saw George s energy and wanted to harness that energy for baseball. Matthias could hit a
baseball over the fence, using just one arm. This inspired George to play baseball. One day in a
baseball game, George was up to bat facing an inexperienced pitcher. George started laughing and
making fun of him. Matthias stopped George and told him, If you think that you can do better, let s see
you go out there and pitch. The next inning, George went up to the mound and pitched. He had no clue
how to pitch but he threw harder than anyone in the league. A minor league team s coach saw him
play, and asked the young 19 year old to sign a contract with his team! This would be the start of
something great!

Single gender schools could lead to economic and sociological meltdown Although separating male

because, separation would cost a lot of money, a new building, new staff, new bus drivers, new

Essay on LLCs and Taxes
As with any kind of business formation, there will always be, to some extent, negative aspects
associated with the creation. To this date there is no perfect form of business entity. When deciding on
which entity is best suited for a business, there are many things to be considered. Prior to deciding on
a business structure, some major points to be thought about are both the legal and tax ramifications
associated with the entity chosen. Another criteria that should be considered are the costs connected
with the entity type. These cost include the cost of formation as well as any continuing administrative
cost that may be incurred. ( Choose Your Business, 2011)

The social security taxes, which are currently at a rate of 10.4% and Medicare taxes which is currently
at a rate 2.9%, total 13.9% down 2 percent from the previous year. This decrease in the self
employment tax rate is due to the 2010 tax relief act past by Congress. (Internal Revenue Service,
2011)
A Social Security tax is paid on the first $106,800 of income that is earned but anything thereafter is
not exposed to this tax. Taxes that are paid in for Social Security are most commonly known as going
towards old age benefits that are received when retirement age is met. It also goes towards survivors,
such as the spouse or young children of someone who has passed, and disability insurance. The taxes
paid in for Medicare go towards the medical insurance of those who are over the age of 65 or those

While Winston is being scanned, the camera zooms into an MCU shot of Winston s head and the

Because of the presence of this telescreen and the other surveillance cameras throughout this

The Q Theory Of Mergers
Model Introduction The model used in this paper is derived from the model used in the paper The Q
Theory of Mergers by Boyan Jovanovic and Peter L. Rousseau (2002) and in the paper The Q Theory
of Mergers by Peter L. Rousseau (2006). Production function With its state of technology as z and its
capital stock as K, a firm s production function is output = zK. It is important to note that the capital
stock includes both labor and physical capital and that z stands for the quality of organization capital
(Rousseau 2006) and other intangibles such as proprietary inventions or management skill. The
parameter z follows the Markov process Pr⁡
{z_(t+1) z^ |z_t=z}=F(z ,z) and it is firm specific. In the
market, firms can buy new or dissembled used capital at a price of unity. Moreover, there is no
markets for z so a firm must accept whatever z given. Growth of capacity Let X be the firm s direct
investment in unbundled capital and Y its acquisitions of bundled capital. The firm s capital stock in
next period will be: K^ =(1 δ)K+X+Y Cost of growth Aside from payment for X and Y, the firm also
faces forgone output cost of growth: c(x,y)K, where x=X/K and y=Y/K Merger Gains After
purchasing new and used capital, a firm transfers its z to the new entity. Hence, the gain of a merger is
largest when the difference between the target s z and the acquirer s z is biggest, that is, the target s z
is high and the acquirer s z is low. Assume that the acquirer s state is

Short Summary Of The Sniper
In The Sniper , a cold hearted depiction of war, Liam O Flaherty follows a young Republican sniper
through a typical day amongst the callous bloodshed. The story opens with the Sniper, bathed in soft
light emanating from the moon, drawing smoke from his cigarette. For a while there is the gentle
illusion of normality, however, before long, the silence of peace is shattered by an appearance of an
armored car and enemy informant. Driven by his need to survive, the Sniper shoots them down,
without even once wondering about their intentions. As he eliminates the threat, another enemy sniper
catches him in the arm with a carefully aimed bullet, forcing him to retreat behind the roof. Reminded
constantly of the death waiting for him by the corpses of the people he killed, the Sniper grinds his
teeth and overcomes his pain, formulating a plan that would allow him to survive. Before the sun
rises, the Sniper tricks the enemy Sniper into believing him dead. When the enemy sniper stands up in
fabricated victory, the Sniper takes him down, ignoring his bleeding arm and screaming conscience.
Before he can decide to report back to his commander, the Sniper is hit with a strangely compelling
need to find out who the enemy Sniper was. Risking his life and dodging numerous bullets from a
machine gun, he gets off the roof and reaches the body on the ground. When he flips it over, the face
that stares back at him is the lifeless mask of none other than his brother. On this

In the way he conveys this, it s clear that he feels time is moving very slowly. In the third stanza, We
do not wind it up, it has no weights, spring wheels inside of its slender self, no indeed dear nothing of
the kind (Cummings Web), Cummings creates vivid imagery. This shows that Cummings is relating
how he has no use for a clock and doesn t care for the principle of keeping time. He would rather live
life time free, without having to worry about being on time or being late.
The third and final poetic device that shows up in the poem, 9 , is symbolism. To begin the poem
Cummings uses symbolism. The number 9 refers to the number of times he uses the words, tic toc ,
toc tic , tic tic , toc , and tic . Also, as seen in the fourth stanza, So when kiss spring comes, we ll kiss
each kiss other on kiss the kiss lips because the tic clocks toc don t make a toc tic difference to kiss
kiss you and to kiss me (Cummings Web). Cummings uses the word kiss to complicate and clutter the
verse. If you remove those words, he simply summarizes all of his thoughts in the last stanza. He says
when spring comes; we can kiss because the clocks don t make a difference to you and me. This
symbolizes that Cummings can t wait for the spring and summer months when the clocks don t play a
role in his life.
In conclusion, Cummings uses his poem 9 to relay his feeling to time. He feels that

Compare And Contrast Fort Myers And Porters
Fort Myers Vs Porter Fort Myers and Porter are two amazing cities. Fort Myers located in the
Sunshine State and Porter in the Lone Star State. Porter is more of a suburban area whereas Fort
Myers is more developed as a city. Both these cities have very noticeable differences. One is more
active and alive, and the other is calm. Although these cities are opposites, they have similar qualities
that we can compare to see which city is better. Notably Florida is known for having many glamorous
theme parks, but Texas also has these attractions. Although not as big as Florida s, Texas has a few

Locals in Porter have to travel out of the city in order to do anything. Luckily Houston is very close

different from one another. Yet they have similarities that can be used to compare each other. Some
people might prefer a city that is calmer like Porter, but others might like to go to the beach in the
middle of winter. This is what makes it difficult to decide what city is better. Both cities are great to

The Cause Of Civil War
A complex and complicated nature of the causes of the Civil War was in the center of the nations
development. The Civil War started because of the differences between the free and slave states. One
of the reasons that led the Union to the Civil war was the secession of the Southern States. Some of
the issues included state rights, disagreement over tariffs, slavery which was legal in the South, but not
in North, abolitionists and anti abolitionists, economic, cultural and political differences between
North and South. One of the causes of Civil War was the state rights. For example, Jefferson passed
the embargo of 1807 where he prohibited all exports from the United States. This hurt more the States
economy than the Britain. This

The Influence Of Living In A Small Town
Imagine growing up in a small town where everyone knows everyone s business and the nearest Wal
Mart is almost an hour away; then imagine attending a school where the amount of student attending
is the same number of people who occupy a small town. The size difference is substantial and plays an
important role. When I was younger, I had attended both a small town school and a school in the city. I
have had the chance to experience the different lifestyles of these two variations of living. The
development of who I am today was because of my surroundings. In the city, I noticed there was
different opportunities. The opportunities seemed more readily available depending on funding and
sources; which are dependant on the location. Education, development, and opportunities are widely
known to be affected by environmental factors; thus, people who live in the city have a different
experience than those who reside in small towns.
There are many stereotypes associated with people who live in the city and people who live in a small
town. A lot of stereotypes lean towards people who grow up in a small town do not have the chance to
receive a finer education, or everyone who lives in the city are rude and arrogant. On contrary to these
stereotypes, people raised in a small town can receive an adequate education and not everyone who
lives in the city is rude. Personally, when I transferred from a middle school with a 1000 students to a
school who had roughly 300 students I noticed

The First Movement of Beethoven s Sonata Op.31 No.1...
This sonata was composed around 1802, a point at which Beethoven experienced the crisis of
encroaching deafness. From then on, the composer started to introduce innovative and bold ideas
within classical framework in his musical composition to expand the expressiveness of his music. His
novel approach was evident in his formal and harmonic arrangement in the first movement of Sonata
Op.31 No.1. Distinctive harmonic departure from the classical sonata form convention fills the
movement with drama. In classical sonata form convention, tonality is to be established in the first
theme with no ambiguity so as to make contrast with the second theme, which is normally set in the
dominant. In the first movement of Beethoven s sonata Op.31 ... Show more content on

He preserved the harmonic integrity by finally returning to the home key G major (Fig. G) in the
closing section of the second theme (mm.265 275).
Fig. F
Fig. G The return to the home key can be seen as a relief from the dissonance produced by the
passages of second themes in E major and b minor. Yet, the tonality on G major is not distinctive
enough to induce a home returning emotion in the listeners. Therefore, the composer restated the
opening of the first theme in G major and continues with arpeggiando passages (Fig. H) (mm.288 295)
establishing the dominant of the home key. The coda (mm.295 324) consists only simple harmonies
(Fig. I) of the tonic and dominant seventh, reassuring the listeners the sense of finally returning home.
Fig .H Fig .I Employing remote keys and tonicisation seem not sufficient for the composer to display
his ability to expand the expressiveness of his music. Thus, Beethoven employed the technique modal
mixture through out the second theme in both exposition and recapitulation. For instance, the second
theme in the exposition starts with B major harmony (mm.65 69) (Fig. C). With a descending scale,
the second theme swiftly changes to b minor (mm.72 79) (Fig. J). It creates abrupt change in the mood
from a sweet dance like major passage to a stormy minor one. From measure 72, b minor persists
throughout the second theme except

If students were shouting and protesting in classrooms, the school would be able to step in because it

Has freedom of speech changed since then? Some schools nowadays punish kids for online social
media comments. (WHEELER) For example, if a student posts something on Facebook, and another
kid comments on that status with a rude remark, the kid who posted it could take that to the principal s
office and the kid who commented on it could get in trouble. Some could say it was cyber bullying,
some could say it was just a witty/rude remark, not meant to be taken seriously. Is this a violation of
free speech/expression? Another reason school authority figures have a lot of power over whether or
not a student gets in trouble for what they say, posts, or wears, is that the school can discipline a
student just because they personally or morally did not like the comment/post. Most of the time, the
kids that get in trouble for something they post are in their own home, on their own laptop, during
their free time outside of school. So why does the school have so much power over these situations the
majority of the time? The digital age, with its wonderful capacity to democratize speech, is so
important to students rights, but also carries new and interesting threats to students rights, Tinker says.

  • 2. Ancient Stories Of The Sumerians The Sumerians Although, we widely attribute the ancient stories of the Sumerians to pure mythology, they went to great lengths to understand and create a way to record their history, society structure, and development; just as we do for historical events today. The most accepted view on what makes a culture civilized or having obtained civilization is a culture which has attained a degree of complexity, usually characterized by urban life (Guisepi). As far as the Sumerian culture is concerned, they created our foundation for what we consider today, as the standards for civilization. Even though human exploration and discoveries continue to uncover previously unknown chapters of our story here on earth, the extensive amount of archeological evidence we have for the Sumerians and time frame, allow us to accredit them for over 100 firsts for the human civilization from their ingenuities, accomplishments, and inventions. Many of which we can still see in use, in some form, in our modern society today. According to Samuel Kramer, For those not familiar with this remarkable, resourceful and intelligent people, who not only invented writing but also established the true mythological foundations of all main religions of the world, simply put, they taught us almost everything . The Sumerians settled in Mesopotamia around 4000 BCE. between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, which is known today, as southern Iraq. Notice the word settled in the previous sentence. Recent ... • 3. A Brief Look at Utilitarianism Utilitarianism is an attractive philosophy which claims to replace arbitrary seeming rules by a morality with a single coherent basis. As the most common form of consequentialism, based on the pursuit of the greatest happiness of the greatest number, it argues that acts should be judged as right or wrong according to their consequences. Because happiness is the only thing that is good in itself, and unhappiness is the only thing that is inherently bad, everything else is only good or bad according to its tendency to produce happiness or unhappiness. In a business type system, utilitarianism is also attractive as a means of decision making in which the majority must choose wisely. This type of decision making may have a positive effect on what action to take, but at the same time it might have a cost that would not be taken lightly by a business. From an engineer s and company s stand point, Utilitarianism would best fit, for the simple reason that it will satisfy everyone, because it is more of a general theory, with a large margin area of company and consumer satisfaction. Where other theories might be more specific to the situation, with utilitarianism almost all fits within the category. This may be a good thing for a company, but at the same time, one of the difficulties with the utilitarian standard is that it seems to sometimes favor the greater aggregate good at the expense of a vulnerable minority; the minority being the company s consumer (Rabins). • 4. Literary Criticism Of Jane Eyre Psychoanalytic Literary Criticism of Jane Eyre: Deviated Transcendancy De Keukelaere, a respected literary criticist, defines deviated transcendancy as idolatry that detracts from the relationship between the subject and God. Especially in the Victorian era, God was mandated to be the main focus of a life lived well. Those who put others before Him were shunned as heathens, and not given the happily ever after that the godly women did. Jane, in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre, places her love of Rochester above her love and devotion to God, which drags her down a spiral of despair. According to Katherine Bubel s Transcending the Triangle of Desire: Eros and the Fulfillment of Love in Middlemarch and Jane Eyre , this idolation of Rochester is why Jane s life takes the plunges it does, as her transcendancy to a higher state of living is threatened by her devotion to the metaphysical. The imprisonment of triangular desire , as Bubel claims, is trapping Jane, Rochester, and St. John, and in order to have a healthy relationship with Jane they all, Jane included, must ren[ounce] deviated transcendancy (Bubel 296). While Bubel is correct in that the relationships between both Jane and Rochester and Jane and St. John are strained due to their obsessions with possessing her as their own, I do not concur with the conclusion that this is due to a lack of morality; rather that the selfish motivations of both Rochester and St. John are deleterious to Jane s psyche and prey upon ... • 5. Essay on Machiavelli’s The Prince and the Modern Executive The Prince and the Modern Executive Few question The Prince s place in the canon of western literature. That it marks a turning point in our collective history, the origin of the study of politics as a science (Pollock 43), is alone enough to warrant its classification as a Great Book. Its author, Niccolo Machiavelli, a contemporary of Copernicus, is generally accepted as an early contributor to the scientific revolution, because he looked at power and the nature of sovereignty through the eyes of a scientist, focused completely on the goal without regard for religion and morals and ethics. Machiavelli taught that the way princes actually do govern often differs substantially from than the way they ought to govern, according to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A corporation has its king and its barons, its courtiers and ambassadors, its loyalists and its dissident elements, its allies and its enemies. What is important to our application of his principles of statecraft to the business world is not the superficial differences but the underlying unity. Modern corporations that are successful and well managed do not necessarily operate in harmony with the personal morality of their employees and for the general good of their communities. Similarly, firms which pollute the environment or ask their employees to lie are not always forced into bankruptcy. The individualism and secularism that characterized the Italian Renaissance are dominant themes in Machiavelli s thinking. His use of historical examples throughout The Prince demonstrates an extensive knowledge of Greek and Roman history and is consistent with the new found love for antiquity of the Renaissance. Machiavelli was, in every sense of the word, a true renaissance man. He appears to be remarkably well educated, although limited finances probably prevented him from studying at a major university. As a result, the effect of humanist teachings, prevalent at most of the institutions of higher learning at the time, on Machiavelli was limited. Machiavelli s knowledge of specific details of politics is primarily the culmination of a life long career as a bureaucrat and diplomat. In The Prince, Machiavelli ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Great Sports Team Greatness can be defined in three words, success , hard work and determination. The 1998 New York Yankees lived up to every single one of those three traits. They are the greatest sports team of all time because they won the World Series yet again with Paul o neil and Tino Martinez who drove in one hundred and sixteen and one hundred twenty three runs. They have continuously proven themselves according to the Forbes website showing their tremendous records in statistics which shows just how talented the team really is even through these years. The Yankees outscored opponents that year by 309 runs, or almost two runs per game. Going by that stat alone, you could claim the 1998 Yankees were the best team ever. The Yankees set an American League record for the most wins in a single season with a 114 48 record, and finished 22 games above the second place Red Sox which is very impressive. During that season everyone seen David Wells throw a perfect game against the Twins, and Bernie Williams win the batting title with a .339 average. The Yankees broke quite a few records making them the greatest sports team of all time. Paul O neil was a huge factor of their 1998 World Series win because he led the Yankees into the World Series where they won against the San Diego Padres in a 4 game sweep and helped the team win a record 125 games. Game 1 was where the Yankees win was highlighted by a seven run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning that put the Yankees ahead for good in a 9 6 win. O Neill was then 0 for 5. But that did not discourage him because the second game was a blow out where O Neill singled once in five at bats and scored a run. Later in Game 3, the Yankees were down 3 0 heading into their half of the seventh inning. In the eighth inning, O Neill walked and later scored on Brosius second home run of the game, a three run shot that put New York ahead for good. The Yankees completed the sweep the next ... • 8. Newsworthiness of Child Abuse Cases Society is now what Downing, Mohammadi and Mohammadi (1990) would call a media culture , this is where the perceptions and images of reality are often shaped by the actions and decisions of news editors and producers (Surrette, 1992). The role of the media according to O Shaughnessy and Stadler (2008) is to give the public an insight on what is happening in the world and to make sense of that information to the public. The main focus of this essay will be looking two main concepts which are newsworthiness and the dark figure of crime, relating 5 news articles that are centred around child abuse that have featured in the New Zealand Herald and stuff.co.nz. The media plays an important role in society by creating and shaping society s attitudes about most current issues including child abuse. In New Zealand, as well as in the international media, the physical abuse of a child regularly features in the newspapers, magazines, radio and television (Merchant, 2010). When it comes to the public understanding of child abuse, this is influenced by the knowledge that they gain through reading newspapers or mass media like the television or radio. Kitzinger (2004) states that our individual view and sense of the world are a social construct and the media are an important resource to help us construct that world view. The way that child abuse is reported in the media has become what you would call entertainment where there seems to be an incline towards dramatising child abuse in a ... • 9. Chemical Warfare During The First World War Chemical Warfare in the First World War The First World War, while engulfing Europe with four years of death and destruction, also served as something of a testing ground, allowing nations to test and deploy the newest and most high tech weapons in their arsenals. It is from these experiences, on the bitter, mud drenched fields of Flanders, Eastern Europe, and elsewhere, that many technologies that shape the modern battlefield today, such as the air plane or the tank, were first put to use on a grand scale. It is here too, that another weapon was unleashed upon humanity for first time, but this one was deemed so sinister that the nations of the world near unanimously agreed to ban once the war ended. A weapon so awful that even today, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Its use, however, despite its non lethality, served to set a dangerous precedent for the war. German planners wasted no time in developing their own incapacitating agents to retaliate with, and before long something of a chemical weapons arms race was underway. The German chemical response finally came that October, when British forces at Neuve Chapelle were hit with a wave of xylyl bromide, and apparently the Germans like what they saw. In January, they decided to turn their new weapon against the Russian army, in what they hoped would send their opponents running beneath a thick cloud of tear gas. To create this cloud, nearly 20,000 shells were filled with teargas and unleashed on the Russian positions west of Warsaw. Unfortunately for the Germans, however, they did not take into account the frigid conditions that occur in Central Poland in July, and most of the gas froze, the shells harmlessly falling to earth amongst a bewildered Czarist force. In light of the developments on the Eastern Front, as well as the fact that xylyl bromide was found to corrode metals and thus posed a logistics nightmare for the men transporting the shells, the German army began looking for alternatives and finally ... • 10. How Does Global Warming Affect Polar Bears One problem created by global warming is the diminishing natural habitat of the Polar Bear. Increased greenhouse gas emissions are warming the earth, and shrinking the polar ice caps. The polar ice caps are the natural habitat for the polar bear. With the loss of this critical habitat it could inhibit the future survival of this species. In 2008 the bears were listed by the U.S. Endangered Species Act due to global warming (1). This listing happened because of the ongoing loss of critical habitat for polar bears survival. The arctic sea ice sheets are the primary habitat for the bear. The bear lives, and hunts exclusively on these arctic ice sheets. The Red Queen s character is seen as an antagonist, the opposing force to Alice s adventures. Upon their first encounter in this story the queen explains the rules of her kingdom as like the rules of a game of chess, as a story and game of advancement and promotion. Alice is like a pawn piece and can move up the board in such a way that she too can become the queen, like as in chess the queen can move effortlessly in whatever manner she likes. The queen perturbs Alice into an endless run with Alice having no real direction of where she is heading and meeting other strange characters along the way which develops her idea of the impossible being possible. Luke Liberty University Abstract African American males in higher education have captured the attention of researchers; sadly, exhausted amount of research has focused primarily on the failing black male, while little has been done to address the problem. This paper focuses on factors that influence the perceptions and self esteem of African American males in higher education, and explore why their educational achievements are overwhelmingly lower than any other racial/ethnic group. Specifically, this review focuses on how research in education or the lack thereof has contributed to this particular issue. The review of literature in this paper leads to two research questions: (1) What efforts if any have been directed to address the negative outcomes of black males in higher education? (2) What other external factors have prevented black males from achieving their objectives at a lower rate than any other racial or ethnic group? The following 10 reviews attempt to answer the above questions. The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch is a triptych done in the Renaissance period. A triptych is a painting or relief carving that has three different panels and are hinged together side by side. I first came across this painting in my art history class in high school and from then on I loved it due to all the imagery, colors, and the overall meaning that it had. Ever since then this artwork has left a big imprint and got me to think about art as much more than a picture, but to look at it as a whole and analyze it. This painting always seemed interesting and intriguing for a couple of reasons. There are many themes going on, the colors are very monochrome but yet look vivid and life like, and it has a very deep meaning with the themes of mortality, sin, and shows the end results for evil doings. The triptych has three different panels and all three have their own story to tell. When the triptych is closed and both left and right sections are shut you see the world in tones of gray or neutral colors. At the uppermost left corner of the closed sections you can see a depiction of God looking down at the world with an open book in his hands. The first one on the left tells the story of how God introduced Adam to Eve. They are shown to be in a beautiful and surreal looking location which is thought to be paradise. Adam, Eve, and God ... Since most of the food I ate are either deep fried or cooked with high heat in the cooking process (for example vegetable stew), the heat destroys vitamin E. Firstly, I can change my way of eating vegetables from cooked product to salads. Salad dressing and shortening are high in Vitamin E, and they are easily found in the school cafeteria. Salad with dressing can provide me with most of the vitamin E I need, 1 teaspoon of mayonnaise made from safflower contains 3.0 mg of it and 1 teaspoon of canola oil contains 2.4 mg. Vegetables themselves also contain vitamin E, if I have salad twice a day that will take up to half of what is needed everyday. Another reason I am not getting enough is because I eat a lot of white bread and white long grained rice, which all have the grain germ removed during production. However, wheat germ is a good source of vitamin E; therefore, if I switch from white bread to whole wheat bread and white rice to brown rice, it will increase my vitamin E intake. Since 30 grams of wheat germ contain 6 mg of vitamin E, by introducing them into my diet I will make up the other half of my daily need for it. Rousseau (2002) and in the paper The Q Theory of Mergers by Peter L. Rousseau (2006). Production function With its state of technology as z and its capital stock as K, a firm s production function is output = zK. It is important to note that the capital stock includes both labor and physical capital and that z stands for the quality of organization capital (Rousseau 2006) and other intangibles such as proprietary inventions or management skill. The parameter z follows the Markov process Pr⁡ {z_(t+1) z^ |z_t=z}=F(z ,z) and it is firm specific. In the market, firms can buy new or dissembled used capital at a price of unity. Moreover, there is no markets for z so a firm must accept whatever z given. Growth of capacity Let X be the firm s direct investment in unbundled capital and Y its acquisitions of bundled capital. The firm s capital stock in next period will be: K^ =(1 δ)K+X+Y Cost of growth Aside from payment for X and Y, the firm also faces forgone output cost of growth: c(x,y)K, where x=X/K and y=Y/K Merger Gains After purchasing new and used capital, a firm transfers its z to the new entity. To begin the poem Cummings uses symbolism. The number 9 refers to the number of times he uses the words, tic toc , toc tic , tic tic , toc , and tic . Also, as seen in the fourth stanza, So when kiss spring comes, we ll kiss each kiss other on kiss the kiss lips because the tic clocks toc don t make a toc tic difference to kiss kiss you and to kiss me (Cummings Web). Cummings uses the word kiss to complicate and clutter the verse. If you remove those words, he simply summarizes all of his thoughts in the last stanza. He says when spring comes; we can kiss because the clocks don t make a difference to you and me. This symbolizes that Cummings can t wait for the spring and summer months when the clocks don t play a role in his life. In conclusion, Cummings uses his poem 9 to relay his feeling to time. • 31. The Influence Of Living In A Small Town Imagine growing up in a small town where everyone knows everyone s business and the nearest Wal Mart is almost an hour away; then imagine attending a school where the amount of student attending is the same number of people who occupy a small town. The size difference is substantial and plays an important role. When I was younger, I had attended both a small town school and a school in the city. I have had the chance to experience the different lifestyles of these two variations of living. The development of who I am today was because of my surroundings. In the city, I noticed there was different opportunities. The opportunities seemed more readily available depending on funding and sources; which are dependant on the location. Education, development, and opportunities are widely known to be affected by environmental factors; thus, people who live in the city have a different experience than those who reside in small towns. There are many stereotypes associated with people who live in the city and people who live in a small town. A lot of stereotypes lean towards people who grow up in a small town do not have the chance to receive a finer education, or everyone who lives in the city are rude and arrogant. On contrary to these stereotypes, people raised in a small town can receive an adequate education and not everyone who lives in the city is rude. Personally, when I transferred from a middle school with a 1000 students to a school who had roughly 300 students I noticed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Death Of Stalin Essay Not all the filmmakers have the capacity of gathering sensitive political and historical material and turn it into a pleasurable satirical parody that stirs our intellect in a totally different way. With just a couple of feature length films, Italian born Armando Iannucci is surely one of them, asserting his gift with comedies such as In The Loop , and now The Death of Stalin , a tongue in cheek caricature of the post Stalinism struggle for power. Its conception was based on the French graphic novel of the same name. • 33. The First Movement of Beethoven s Sonata Op.31 No.1... This sonata was composed around 1802, a point at which Beethoven experienced the crisis of encroaching deafness. From then on, the composer started to introduce innovative and bold ideas within classical framework in his musical composition to expand the expressiveness of his music. His novel approach was evident in his formal and harmonic arrangement in the first movement of Sonata Op.31 No.1. Distinctive harmonic departure from the classical sonata form convention fills the movement with drama. In classical sonata form convention, tonality is to be established in the first theme with no ambiguity so as to make contrast with the second theme, which is normally set in the dominant. In the first movement of Beethoven s sonata Op.31 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He preserved the harmonic integrity by finally returning to the home key G major (Fig. G) in the closing section of the second theme (mm.265 275). Fig. F Fig. G The return to the home key can be seen as a relief from the dissonance produced by the passages of second themes in E major and b minor. Yet, the tonality on G major is not distinctive enough to induce a home returning emotion in the listeners. Therefore, the composer restated the opening of the first theme in G major and continues with arpeggiando passages (Fig. H) (mm.288 295) establishing the dominant of the home key. The coda (mm.295 324) consists only simple harmonies (Fig. I) of the tonic and dominant seventh, reassuring the listeners the sense of finally returning home. Fig .H Fig .I Employing remote keys and tonicisation seem not sufficient for the composer to display his ability to expand the expressiveness of his music. Thus, Beethoven employed the technique modal mixture through out the second theme in both exposition and recapitulation. For instance, the second theme in the exposition starts with B major harmony (mm.65 69) (Fig. C). With a descending scale, the second theme swiftly changes to b minor (mm.72 79) (Fig. J). It creates abrupt change in the mood from a sweet dance like major passage to a stormy minor one. From measure 72, b minor persists throughout the second theme except ... If students were shouting and protesting in classrooms, the school would be able to step in because it causes other students to be distracted from their schoolwork. (CALAGNA) Has freedom of speech changed since then? Some schools nowadays punish kids for online social media comments. (WHEELER) For example, if a student posts something on Facebook, and another kid comments on that status with a rude remark, the kid who posted it could take that to the principal s office and the kid who commented on it could get in trouble. Some could say it was cyber bullying, some could say it was just a witty/rude remark, not meant to be taken seriously. Is this a violation of free speech/expression? Another reason school authority figures have a lot of power over whether or not a student gets in trouble for what they say, posts, or wears, is that the school can discipline a student just because they personally or morally did not like the comment/post. Most of the time, the kids that get in trouble for something they post are in their own home, on their own laptop, during their free time outside of school. So why does the school have so much power over these situations the majority of the time?
