Pre School Teacher Assistant Job Analysis
I spent much of my life trying to blend in with my peers, and to some extent, I continue to wear this
mask of normalcy. However, my life has been anything but normal . I was born in Liberia in 1989, a
few years before the outbreak of Civil War. I remember being awakened in the middle of the night and
having to horridly leave home while gun shots filled the night sky.
My first Job in high school I worked as Preschool Teacher Assistant in an early childhood mental
health program designed to build resilience and to prevent behavioral and disabling aspects of children
s mental and emotional disorders. In college I attained a position as a Support Specialist at the
Springfield Massachusetts Behavioral Health Network, a non profit community dedicated helping
individuals, families, and communities improve the quality of lives for those with behavioral health
and developmental challenges. In this position I provided services to youth and families conducting
interviews and learned to develop behavior intervention plan (BIP) to improve ... Show more content

Predestination Essay
Predestination
Predestination, in the dictionary, is said to be the doctrine that God in consequence of his
foreknowledge of all events infallibly guides those who are destined for salvation. Scripture has 2 very
good passages for defining what predestination is: Jeremiah 1:5 which says Before I formed you in the
womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.
God is talking about Jeremiah in this passage and how God chose him before time; he was predestined
for his job. Romans 8:28 30 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love
God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did
predestinate to be conformed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That God decreed to leave some in the common misery and not to bestow on them living faith and the
grace of conversion. Calvin also believes that God predestined everything for everything that it does,
such that God predestined me to be writing this report right now for my religion class, so that this isn t
my own free will but it was God s set plan for me. Zanchius, a Reform Theologian, writes that there is
most certainly a double predestination and gives passages to prove through God s Word that there is
no other way. II Cor. 4:3 If our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. I Peter 2:8
They stumble because they disobey the message which is also what they were destined for. II Peter
2:12b #8230;They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed,
and like beasts they too will perish. Jude 1:4a For certain men who were marked out for condemnation
long ago have secretly slipped among you. He concludes his arguments by saying that God could not
erase a name that has been placed in the book of life or add a name because it was from eternity. He
quotes Luther with, This is the very thing that razes the doctrine of free will from its foundation, to
wit, that God s eternal love of some men and hatred of others is immutable and cannot be reversed.
The truth about predestination is that God gives man a free will that he doesn t take control of or
manipulate. So an unbeliever has a choice, he can either accept

, Dante, Inferno And The Inferno
Most literary pieces written in the early Middle Ages were strictly written about different religions,
God, Heaven and Hell. Authors like Dante usually wrote about Christianity unlike Boccacio. Boccacio
wrote literary pieces based off of real people in real life situations, the things a lot of people wanted to
read about but no other author dared to write about. In the story of Decameron, Boccacio uses the
afterlife as a punchline in his said to be stories about entertainment. Throughout the many other stories
he wrote, he dug into the good, bad and ugly and included all the details for all readers to have a vivid
image. In juxtaposition, Dante s great masterpiece was The Divine Comedy which consisted of three
parts: the Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. In The Inferno (or Hell) Dante explains his imaginary tour
there and the different people he sees there. Both literary pieces give insight to the reader on how
these authors thoughts and views on religion and the afterlife.
In Boccacio s Decameron, the story told by Dioneo (third day, tenth story) is about the story of a
young man using religion against a clueless young girl in order to have sex with her. Dioneo uses this
story in a kind of flirtatious way towards the other story teller women. In this writing, It s almost as if
Boccacio is throwing shade at Christians as a whole for being so religious but still sinning out of
temptation. The story starts off with a young girl named Alibech who goes off to search for

War Of The World Movie Vs Book
Comparing Adaptations of Books and Film: The War of the Worlds
Adaptations of books into movies are very common. In comparing the book by H.G. Wells, The War
of the World, written in 1897 and the film with the same title directed by Steven Spielberg released in
2005 there are many similarities and many differences. Based on many of the facts of this story I
believe this to be an intermediate adaptation. An intermediate adaptation is defined as, Some elements
of the story are kept in the film, other elements are dropped, and still more elements are added
(Desmond 44). This essay will look at some of the differences based on the era that the film version
was produced in.
The tone of the movie is different based on the era that the film was produced. During the early 2000
there were issues that were not as prevalent or discussed as in the 1890 s. One of these such topics is
that of divorce and the new blended family. This movie showed a divorced father who was not present
in the lives of his children. The children were dropped off by their mother who had planned a vacation
with her new husband. The father is unprepared for the children s visit and he appears uncomfortable
around his own children. In the book version, there is no mention of any children and the narrator is ...

children try to reach their mother by telephone, but find it useless as all communication has been

Reality Tv Negative
Do you think that reality T.V. affects our kids? Many kids watch reality T.V. and they have not had a
positive outcome. Once kids get into a situation they tend to react like how they think their favorite
star would. Reality T.V. is not good for kids because it encourages bad behavior, lowers kids self
esteem, and makes kids have a lack of focus.
First once kids watch reality T.V. lowers many kids self esteem. Lots of these reality T.V. shows give
the impression that their value is based on their appearance. Which to me it is not and it should not be
to anyone. People should judge each other on you are as a person, not on how you look. For example
shows like America s Next, Top Model compete to see who is the prettiest one or best fit for a model,
to get 100,000 and a big modeling contract. It would feel horrible to get told that you were not pretty
enough or not thin enough that is what leads to people having eating them because own skin. addition,

worked very hard to get their jobs but instead of focusing on that they focus more on conflicts. Lots of
teens have shown materialism. Which is bad because they think that having more name brand things is
better than their family.
It is obvious that reality T.V. does not have many great effects because it , encourages bad behavior,
makes kids have a lack of focus, and lowers their self esteem. For all of these reasons reality T.V.
affects kids in a negative way. There are many positive shows out there like educational shows,

Ethical Issues In Omelas By Ursula Le Guin
The story of Omelas presented by Ursula Le Guin provides a simple, yet profound ethical question. Is
the misery of one person worth the ultimate happiness for everyone else? The story of Omelas
describes a city in which there is no guilt. The citizens enjoy life to its fullest, partaking in pleasures
without consequences and not dealing with complex social issues that are burdensome in other places.
There are few laws, no kings, no slaves, and the luxuries in life exist, as long as they do not cause
destruction. On the day of the story, Le Guin describes a summer festival in which children race
horses and everyone frolics through the streets merrily. Anything one could desire exists in Omelas,
even drugs and sex, all without guilt. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author describes the arrangement in which the citizens of Omelas have made in exchange for their
city of sublime existence. With whom the agreement is made is irrelevant, but the terms create the
deep ethical dilemma. Within the city, in a basement, there lives a child. The child is ten years old, and
is described as malnourished, underdeveloped, and scared. The child is in a closet, with dirt floors, and
is fed a small amount of cornmeal and water every day. People come into the closet occasionally, but
never speak to the child, as is a strict term of the agreement. This is the arrangement that allows
Omelas to exist in the manner it does. This child seemingly bears the entire burden of misery for every
other citizen in the city. The child is not a secret. Every citizen upon reaching a certain age is made
aware of the child, and because of this, they are able to achieve the level of happiness, and
appreciation for their own lives. The justify the existence of the child by convincing themselves that
the child could never really be happy anyway, even if they were to release it from the

Self Assessment And Reflection Paper
Self assessment and Reflection Paper This self assessment and Reflection Paper is about the questions
on page 109. The main arguments are ontological, teleological, and ontological. Something I learned
was worldviews. I think it s important to know the worldviews, so you can see the other side of things.
It allows you to have conversations and arguments with people with those worldviews and know what
they are thinking, knowing the worldview makes it easier to talk to people about faith. The thing that
was most intriguing was the arguments for a creat. The most challenging thing in this chapter was the
ontological argument(). The ontological argument seemed a little faulty, you could replace God with
something else. The ontological argument also was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But I understood it a short while after being confused. But the most useful argument was the
cosmological and teleological arguments. Both the cosmological and teleological argument makes
sense.the cosmological arg menos says whatever begins to exist had a creator ()it makes sense that the
earth is very unlikely to just happen, it has a creator, like a watch. The teleological arguments says if it
has a purpose it has a creator, and that makes sense because everything we make is made by a creator,
() how does earth not? It makes sense that the earth and everything on it comes from a creator. The
law of noncontradiction is also a big help in conversations and arguments, the law of noncontradiction
says you cannot contradict yourself, like a materialist saying all truth is subjective is contradicting
their self, because the just made a objective statement. I chose ontological and teleological arguments
because they made most sense to me. They were easy to understand, simple, and very helpful. Other
arguments are helpful,

Catholic Church Art Analysis
The project I decided to work one was to go to a church different from my own Baptist religious
tradition and decided to attend a Catholic church. I decided to go to a Catholic Church because both
my father and husband are Catholic, and I have not been to Sunday Mass since I was a child and don t
have much recollection of it. I wanted to have that experience now as an adult.
I attended Sunday Mass at Mission San Jose. I wanted to go to a place that was rich with History. I
enjoyed the art displayed inside and outside of Mission San Jose. I was in awe with the beautiful
structures, the Mission/Church was aged beautifully. Throughout the inside walls of Mission San Jose
there was candelabras, and instead of the traditional stained windows you see in a Catholic church,
this one was instead displayed by engraved plaques. The Main wall was displayed by beautiful Saints,
angels, and the crucifixion of Jesus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

praying hands, a white dove, bible or a beaming light. Our Churches also have no candles, altars,

Research Paper On Scarlet Fever

When papa appears in front of me, I realize I have been screaming. In one single motion, he lifts
mama up and carries her off to the carriage to take her to doctor Stanton. In that instant my perfect
moment ends. Scarlet fever leads to death in almost every case, or at least that s what doctor Stanton

Comparison Of Jane Eyre And Jane Eyre
Comparison between the novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, and the homologous film from 1996
Berendi Camelia, EN CH
The 1847 novel by Charlotte Brontë has seen numerous film adaptations, which only added to its vast
popularity. The bildungsroman follows the plain featured, poor, but honest, intelligent and dignified
orphan s development from an oppressed young girl to an independent woman who has found balance
between her often conflicting principles and sentiments. In her quest for a home and a family to
belong to, Jane Eyre searches for both intellectual and emotional fulfillment, while strongly making a
statement about women s role in the Victorian society, gender and social iniquity and discrimination.

John, his character and marriage proposal is not sufficiently emphasized in the film, neither is the fact
that Jane actually considered his request to marry him and go as missionaries in India. It is a fairly
significant moment in Jane s life, having encountered with a second proposal and romantic prospect,
although so unlike the first one. St. John serves as a foil to Rochester: the first one is cold, austere,
ambitious, religious and reserved, while the other is passionate, impetuous, dark and mysterious.
Marrying Rochester, Jane would fulfill her emotional need for love and affection but would neglect
her duty to her moral principles and to her dignity (by becoming a mistress while Bertha was still
alive). On the other hand, marrying St. John would bring her spiritual and moral satisfaction (as she
would have a religious and righteous partner), while also leading a meaningful life as a missionary in
India and having the opportunity to be more than just a governess, but, nonetheless, it would be a
loveless, passionless marriage. This internal battle Jane faces between having to choose whether to
gratify her emotions or her moral principles is not highlighted in the film, although, in my opinion, it
represents a crucial point in her life. In the novel, she earnestly considers St. John s proposal before
finally making her decision: Shall I? I said briefly; and I looked at his features, beautiful in their
harmony, but strangely formidable in

Becoming An Automotive Automaker
Any time a revolutionary new technology is introduced, a period of plethoric propagation follows. It
was no different during the rise of automobiles in the embryonic Twentieth Century. Up until October
24th, 1929 (Black Thursday (the stock Market Crash)), the only thing standing between an engineer
and an automaker; was creativity, talent and drive.
People were essentially popping out of the woodworks trying to make it inside the (mangled )
metaphoric; automotive winners cabin. At the time the technology was so avant garde that there were
no known pitfalls to circumvent.
Automakers were rewarded by investors with reckless abandonment. The only requisite necessary for
an automotive engineer seeking an investor, was a functioning product. There ... Show more content

The main focus was big picture: does it drive? Automakers were racing to race. Just make a car as fast
as possible, and make sure it is faster than our rivals.
The notion of a lemon had not been contemplated, so prospective automakers were solely interested in
getting an automobile on the market. The way they saw it, as long as they did not have a product to
push someone else was stealing their sales.
Moreover, there was little to no product verification in the first moiety of the 1900s. Our consumer
protection was the legal equivalent of no takesies backsies, so if/when patrons had problems with their
product the response was breviloquent at best.
And to be clear, the automakers did not act out of malice, nor is it my intent to demonize any one or
even that particular era of automaking. One cannot condemn those who genuinely did not know any
better.
In the early era of automakers, simply making an automobile was an act of genius. The acuity of
automotive foresight was impossible due to a lack of (eventual) evidence and objective assurity.
Furthermore, this Era led to automaker proliferation; which in turn accelerated automotive evolution,
and expedited progress via profuse

Sand Mining Pollution
Frac Sand Mining: Killing Natural Habitats and Polluting the Environment
I remember walking on the rocky shore of an endless, blue lake and feeling the fresh breeze shield me
from the brutal, summer heat. My Uncle and I used to take out a Piragus canoe and paddle across the
lake s vastness as I peered down into the glassy water and clearly saw the castle rock formations. The
fish quickly swam in and out of their hiding places like swarms of people making their way to work
on a busy New York morning. The lake breathed with life and movement. Rolling green bluffs
encircled the lake, creating a storybook like haven. So many beautiful woodlands and waterways like
this continue to disappear due to the frac sand mining industry. Towering machinery replaces
billowing trees with piles of red, earthy mounds, and the heavy clanking of metal on metal echoes
across the land. Frac mining and fracking scars the land around it indefinitely. I am not an expert on
environmental habitats or the mining industry, but my love for the outdoors and fishing drives me to
investigate the harmful effects of frac sand mining. The frac sand mining industry exploits the
remaining wilderness of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and surrounding states by selfishly polluting
the environment; taking millions of gallons of water from freshwater resources, and disturbing
essential minerals from the ground, thus prohibiting future habitat growth and creating significant
health issues due to a surplus of dust.

Essay about The history of Detroit Diesel
Have you ever wondered how Detroit Diesel has become what it is today. Detroit Diesel Corporation
manufactures diesel and alternative fuel engines for use in trucks, buses, commercial and pleasure
marine craft, military and so on. This is how Detroit Diesel has progressed over the years with engines
and help of other distributors and dealers.
The history of Detroit Diesel started in 1938 just as WWII was heating up. In the same year General
Motors formed the GM Diesel Division which is the ancestor of Detroit Diesel. This was an epic time
when tradition of strength, quality, and dependability was born.( Detroit Diesel )
After the war had ended, GM Diesel recognized the growing opportunity in the on highway truck
market. In 1957, GM ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The incentive to develop such engines came from the idea to replace steam in the locomotive industry.
Alfred P. Sloan, president of GM during the 1920s 1930s said that Charles F. Kettering can be credited
with the foresight and drive behind the practical diesel power. Kettering supervised experiments at
GM as early as 1921 to develop a smaller, more efficient diesel. The small, practical GM diesel engine
might have never been developed is Kettering hadn t been a yachtsman. Kettering purchased a diesel
engine for his yacht and was so impressed, he convinced Sloan to buy the Cleveland, Ohio company
named Winton that made the engine. After this, GM began to develop a diesel powered locomotive
engine during the 1920s and 1930s. (Detroit Diesel Corporation)
Locomotive companies where impressed with the power and efficiency of the engines compared to the
steam locomotives they had been operating for years. No other major manufacturer built a diesel
locomotive engine until after WWII. The importance of the railroad began to decline after WWII , but
Detroit Diesel had already moved into the trucking industry. Detroit Diesels main competitor in the
post years, Cummings Engine Co. , began to fight seriously for market share in the 1960s. However,
the trucking industry was booming and there

Defining Socially Conscious Film Making Essay
DOES THE END JUSTIFY THE MEANS? HOW DO WE DEFINE SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS
FILMMAKING?
Two accountants recently told me that the IRS is questioning (as they tended to do so years ago)
whether filmmakers are hobbyists or professionals. They determine this on the basis of whether or not
profits are made on a sustainable basis.
Most obviously, one of the main issues facing our industry is supply and demand too many people
willing to work for low wages in an industry in which there is too little demand in comparison to what
is produced.
Certainly, the indie doc economy has been impacted by oversupply, due in part by lower barriers to
entry created by myriad of technological changes, and an ever changing media landscape. But given
that we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Are we exempt from the social responsibilities that our progressive films champion because the ends
justify the means? The system is not working. And while it may be seemingly impossible to change,
this does not absolve us of our responsibility to critically examine a system that, like many others in
our global economy, which can be classist, ageist and exploitative. Let s look at the elephant in the
room constructively, bravely, honestly and in the spirit of discovery.
Before hearing the report on NPR today, I contemplated applying for the Ch4 BritDoc Fund. I read the
following in small print:
We cannot give you the level of funding that TV provides. On average, we invest (please define)
between £10,000 and £30,000 and the budgets our filmmakers work to are very pared down. More
often than not (though this varies from project to project) this means you will be expected to put your
time in for free or a nominal sum until the deficit is raised.
The text continued: When the Foundation invests (there s word again see the text of Dan Cogan s well
intentioned but misguided Toronto Film Festival speech in IndieWire) in a film we fully come on
board as Exec Producers.
Another funder, Chicken Egg, is also requesting Executive Producer credit on many of the films they
support, e.g., Pariah has Julie Parker Benello, Judith Helfand, Wendy Ettinger listed as Executive
Producers.

Free Radical Chain Reaction Lab
Free Radical Chain Reactions: Bromination of Arenes Post Lab Report Reference: Experimental
Organic Chemistry: A Miniscale and Microscale Approach 6th ed., by Gilbert and Martin, Chapter 9
Discussion: The purpose of the experiment as to explore how different hydrogen functional groups in
hydrocarbons react with bromine through free radical chain substitution. The product is dependent on
the type of hydrogen that is being subjected to the bromination, whether that be aliphatic, allylic,
benzylic, vinylic, acetylenic, or aromatic. By comparing the relative reactivity rates between the
different hydrogens to bromine, a hypothesized ranking of reactivity was made of the provided
hydrocarbons: toluene, ethyl benzene, tert butylbenzene, cyclohexane, and methylcyclohexane. This
hypothesis was then tested during the actual lab period by preparing two sets of reactions for each
hydrocarbon: one in light and one in dark. Observations were noted throughout a thirty minute period
in order to determine the experimental order of reactivity. Free radical chain reactions are one of the
few mechanisms that allow for functional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethylbenzene was predicted to react first due to the secondary benzylic hydrogens present, the most
reactive hydrogen for the three main hydrogen functional group classifications. Toluene contains
primary benzylic hydrogens, the second most reactive hydrogen. Tert butylbenzene contains primary
aliphatic hydrogens but also an arene ring, allowing for aromatic hydrogens to also be present. This is
why it was ranked above methylcyclohexane in the original proposed ranking. Methylcyclohexane
contains tertiary, secondary and primary aliphatic hydrogens. Cyclohexane contains just secondary
aliphatic hydrogens, justifying its place as the slowest of the hypothesized ranking

The Gods In The Epic Of Gilgamesh Epic
In the Epic of Gilgamesh, there are many different character types. We see king and queens, subjects
and Gods. In this epic, the Gods come off as very powerful and interfere with the lives of humans as
they chose. In the text, there are many examples of the Gods trying to control human lives in specific
ways. The Gods see the courage and strength in Gilgamesh so Anu, the Sky God, summons Aruru to
create a perfect partner for Gilgamesh. The earliest example we see of Gods running interference is
the Goddess of Creation, Aruru, creates Enkidu. Enkidu s purpose is to be a perfect counterpart of
Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh and Enkidu fight to see who is stronger, but they are evenly matched. This
brings the idea of separate but equal between the two individuals. Instead of the two being enemies,
they come about as being ally s in many battles. Throughout this epic you see how the Gods are
symbolic, how they affect daily events, and how fate is on their side.
The Gods are symbolic because they are fully divine. Although Gilgamesh is two thirds divine, he is
still mortal and will die. He wants to be like a God and let his name ... Show more content on

Fate is on the God s side because they can change the outcome to whatever they want it to be. Since
Gilgamesh and Enkidu killed the Bull of Heaven, Enkidu gets ill and slowly dies. Fate can somewhat
be compared to cause and effect. For example, because Gilgamesh rejects Ishtar, she gets her father to
send the Bull of Heaven. The Bull of Heaven was a threat to the people and agriculture, so Gilgamesh
and Enkidu defeat it. All of this could have been avoided if Gilgamesh would have accepted Ishtar s
offer. Since Gilgamesh was close to Enkidu during the time of his death, Gilgamesh now fears death.
This causes Gilgamesh to go through withdrawals and to try to gain immortality. Gilgamesh fails on
his quest for eternal life. This is where Gilgamesh realizes that death cannot be avoided and that it is

Essay on Life Course of a Mas Murderer
The Life Course of a Mass Murderer
Cornelius Davis
DeVry University
The Life Course of a Mass Murderer
On April 16, 2007 one of the most devastating mass murders in U.S history occurred at a Virginia
college. Seung Hui Cho a 23 year old South Korean alone executed the killing of 33 people by
securing colleges doors to prevent escape of any students. Events such as these are truly tragic and
devastating to all involved. By gathering background information about Seung Hui Cho, we can
effectively examine social development theories as they relate to Cho and review my analysis that this
particular occurrence was preventable. Born in South Korea, Seung Hui Cho immigrated to America

Cho had a hard childhood and was in the shadows of his very successful sister. Even in college Cho
had no friends and began to look up to other school shooters as martyrs. Although these individuals
were not his friends at all in his situation they were the closest thing to having friends. In college Cho
was accused of stalking women on two different occasions, was caught taking photos of the legs of
female students in class and was separated out of classes. I believe that Cho s antisocial lifestyle along
with the transition any from home eventually lead him to commit the mass murder. Cho s anti social
lifestyle seemed to escalate to criminal behaviors from the time he went off to college until the time of
the Virginia Tech shooting. I believe that this tragedy could have been prevented if the proper
preventative measures and treatment techniques were taken. As a boy Cho should have been taken in
for a mental evaluation but I believe the integration of his family into the American society prevented
that. In high school Cho being bullied and teased could have been put to a stop by teachers and
surrounding students. Also when Cho started writing gruesome poems short stories and plays he
should have been recommended to a counselor. Any counselor that Cho had encounters with could
have been a lot more persistent in getting to the bottom of Cho s situations. A teacher college teacher
doesn t just separate a student from her class. Finally

currently wearing.
Important terms:
Carbon Footprint: This refers to the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere due to
various activities (Change, n.d.)
Fast Fashion: This refers to when the production process of clothing is done as quickly as possible in
order to get new trends onto the market quickly and at a cheap price. (Anon., n.d.)

Disposal of Obsolete articles:
By us getting rid of clothes that are broken or that we no longer wear we will often just replace them
with no clothes which at the end of the day just continues this cycle is may be of benefit to us but is of
no benefit to the world around us.
What can be done about the above negative impacts?
In order to reduce the negative impact of clothing production we can ensure that we check labels and
buy clothes that are eco friendly and are made from organic cotton and silk.
We can buy locally as a lot of fuel is used to import goods and that will increase the carbon footprint.
We can reuse old clothes by making various items out of them, give them to charity or sell them to a
second hand shop instead of throwing them away. (Maralyn Burger, 2015)
Influence of globalisation on the textile industry:
Conclusion:
So, although we all love clothes and fashion it is negatively affecting our environment, animals and
various peoples human rights. It is therefore important for us to remember we can look good and
ensure that we are not purchasing clothes that will have a negative impact on the world.

The Ocean Has Been My Favorite Environment
For as long as I can remember, the ocean has been my favorite environment. It s the only place that I
constantly feel at one with the earth and my surroundings. From an early age I always had an idea on
what I wanted to pursue as my career. I would read books about the oceanic world below and The
Great Barrier Reef in Australia. It wasn t until I encountered a wild dolphin at Clearwater beach,
Florida that I decided to be a marine biologist. The dolphin was so friendly and welcoming, swimming
by me and my brother and allowing us to stroke his slimy skin. That experience will stick with me
forever and is a huge part of why I want to pursue a career in marine biology.
When I chose to be a marine biologist, my parents were very supportive. They would take us to the
beach as much as possible for vacations, but also for me to be in that environment often. There are
numerous goals that I would hope to accomplish in my field like being promoted to the highest
position possible and being paid the maximum salary. Those goals will motivate me to work to my
fullest potential and always work my hardest. My ultimate goal is of course to help the world by
finding better ways to help out the ocean biome and to make the animals that live there become safer.
Making sure the animals are being treated good and the environment will help the surface world in
multiple ways.
A marine biologist is someone who studies all types of sea creatures, and can choose to specialize in

and hundreds of others were sentenced to reeducation through labor. Late in the year, according to
some reports, the government started confining some Falun Gong adherents to psychiatric hospitals
(China Country Report on Human Rights Practices for 1999).
The government continued to commit widespread and well documented human rights abuses in
violation of internationally accepted terms. These abuses stemmed from the government s extremely
limited tolerance of public unrest. The Constitution and laws provide for fundamental human rights
however, these rights are often ignored in practice. Abuses included instances of extra judicial killings,
torture and mistreatment of prisoners, forced confessions, arbitrary arrest and detention, lengthy
incommunicado detention, and denial of due process(Amnesty International. China, violations of
human rights). Prison conditions at most facilities remained very harsh. In many cases, especially in
sensitive political cases, the judicial system denied criminal defendants basic legal safeguards and due
process of the law, merely because authorities attached higher priorities to maintaining public order
and suppressing political opposition than to enforcing the legal norms of the country (Amnesty

Ostium Primum Defect Research Paper
Proper embryological development of the heart is crucial to proper functioning of the heart as an adult.
The developing heart of a fetus follows several steps to ensure that the heart that develops has two
way flow from atrium to ventricles to pulmonary or systemic circulation. While the steps in heart
development are normally well controlled in a developing fetus, defects can arise and cause
substantial problems postnatally. Specifically, when the embryological origin of the portioning
between the left and right atria fails to develop normally, atrial septal defects can arise. Fortunately,

Ostium primum is noted when there is resorption of the septum primum. Distinguishing features of
ostium primum are a short septum primum and that the defect is closer to the tricuspid valve. The
defect will be seen as a large open foramen close to the tricuspid valve. Ostium secundum defect is
noted when there is an absence of the septum secundum or excess absorption of the septum primum.
The foramen ovale seen is more distal from the tricuspid valve and is quite large [2].
Ostium secundum atrial septal defect is known to be easier to repair, sometimes the defect closes by
the time the patient becomes an adult. However, both types of defects can be treated through surgical
options. Ghosh et. Al discusses how once the chest is opened, patients with ostium secundum ASD
either have the defect repaired through suturing together the defect, or through use of a path comprised
of multiple layers of the same material used for a suture [1]. The results of these options demonstrated
that ASD in secundum form can be easy to repair and often has higher success if performed earlier

Career Planning Process Analysis

Deliberate goalsetting and planning can be helpful to ensure a career which is both successful and

In addition to assessing my current state through skills assessments, such as ALIS, strength based
assessments have been shown to be more useful for career development. One example is
StrengthsQuest (Gallup, 2016) which is a program that aims to help students to discover and take
advantage of their personal strengths. StrengthsQuest is being used across campuses and organizations
to develop strength maps for project teams and working groups. Strength maps help to identify
strengths and weaknesses within a group plan and accordingly, plan for success.
When researching companies and average salaries, I often turn towards Glassdoor ( Glassdoor, 2016)

Presentation Of A Multi Billion Dollar Industry
Presentation publicizing is a multi billion dollar industry that has generally utilized a valuing plan
taking into account the quantity of impressions conveyed. The quantity of impressions of a promotion
is basically the quantity of downloads of that notice. One impression, nonetheless, does not separate
between a notice that is in perspective for five seconds or five minutes. Since promoters look for
brand acknowledgment and review, we ask whether a period based bookkeeping of publicizing can
better adjust to publicists objectives. This work plans to model the fundamental relationship between
promotion presentation time and the likelihood that a viewer will recall an ad. We explore this inquiry
by means of two behavioral investigations, directed utilizing Amazon Mechanical Turk, in which
individuals saw Web pages joined by promotions. The measure of time the advertisements were in
perspective was either decided endogenously (as an element of perusing velocity) or exogenously (as
a component of a clock and irregular task). Our outcomes propose that for presentation times of up to
one moment, there is a solid, causal impact of introduction time on promotion acknowledgment and
review, with the peripheral impacts decreasing at spans past this level. Straightforward models
portraying memory reaction as a component of the logarithm of introduction time give a solid match.
Also, we find that notices that are shown when the Web page burdens achieve more noteworthy

Summary Of The Documentary Go Back To Where You Came From
The documentary, Go Back to Where You Came From plunges six Australians participants into the
intense fear and desperate situations that forces them to confront their attitudes towards the refugee
seeking experience. In such a powerful social experiment, using the Survivor and Big Brother modes
of reality television, powerful emotions erupt. The documentary mixes real life with constructed
situations to produce emotional breaking points around an audience s attitudes, especially in the
heartfelt interactions with refugee families thus privileging immigrants. An audience experience the
borderline minds of the participants and the unstable world of refugees for themselves. They get
caught up in the turbulent emotions and crises that are inflicted by the documentary through the clever
use of evidence, rhetorical questions, inclusive language and sensationalism. The author rebuts the
prevailing misrepresentation of immigrants as freeloaders by providing living testimonies of so called
once, boat people now living in Australia who are not only grateful but are willing to relinquish all
they have for Australia s sake because of the act of benevolence Australia has showed to them and
their families. This is evident in the following quotes of Andrew, They came here to be more effective

How Broken Families Rob Children Of Their Chances For...
Imagine growing up in a poor community with an unstable family, would you be motivated to do well
in school? Conditions like non stable parenting, growing up in a poor community, and not having a
safe learning community all impact a student s education. These misfortunes lead to students not being
driven to graduate and dropping out of high school. A big contribution to the drop out rate is not
having a stable family. Students who do not have stable parenting at home can lead to students
dropping out. In the article How Broken Families Rob Children of Their Chances for Future
Prosperity it discusses broken families earn less and experience lower levels of educational
achievement. In 1950 the number of children living with broken families was 12 for every 100; 42
years later in 1992 the number grew to 58 for every 100 children born. A professor at the University of
Michigan did a study to find the average family income for one parent families compared to two
parent families. Her studies showed that the average income for one parent families is $25,300 and the
average income for two parent family income is $43,600. Students growing up in a stable and two
parent family have better chances of reaching income security as adults. A truly saddening fact is that
almost half of American families go through poverty after divorce. The poverty and divorce of the
adults leads to problems for the children. When children do not have a stable family, their parents

A Letter to Jessica
Dear Jessica: I hope and guess you are doing well in your new area and city, and your recent job is
exciting as well. We are doing well here in Washington except for a few issues that have put me into a
lot of worry and concern. I believe you do understand the challenges that come with adolescent
children and the temptations that they face in life due to the different developments and changes that
occur into them, as well as adventurous steps and ideologies that more often can lead them into great
trouble and risk. My aim of writing you this letter is to share with you and seek your guidance and
opinion about my son Joel, who turned 14 years two months ago. I am deeply worried and concerned
that Joel might be involved or has started using drugs due to the differences that I have personally
noted and observed in his behaviors and character in the last few months. I have been observing him,
and I regret to tell you that this is not the child or boy that we knew him to be. My greatest worry is
about his future that may be jeopardized and his education as well in the event that the boy is involved
in drug abuse. I am certain that you as a parent you know and understand equally well the impact and
pain that a parent experiences and faces seeing a loved one loose direction and ruining his or her
future. As the old English adage says, blood is thicker than water; I have every reason to get worried.

Food Stamp Program Thesis
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as the Food Stamp program, was
established as a safety net against hunger and malnutrition for low income Americans and their
families. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance programs help millions of families, seniors, people with
disabilities, and low wage working Americans afford access to enough food. Food stamps was first
introduced to the American public as a pilot program during the Great Depression in the 1930s. Mabel
McFadden of Rochester, NY was the first food stamp recipient. She paid four dollars and received six
dollars worth of stamps in return.
An orange stamp could buy any food, while a blue stamp was good for only what the Department of
Agriculture deemed to be in surplus. That program lasted through the early 1940s. Food stamps were

Diction And Imagery In The Weary Blues By Langston Hughes
This poem is entitled The Weary Blues and is written by Langston Hughes. It was originally published
in 1926 in the Urban League Magazine. The time period in which this poem was written consisted of a
lot of slavery of dark skinned people. Moreover, the collection that this poem is extracted from, also
entitled The Weary Blues , focuses on the struggles and experiences of African Americans at that time.
It was during the time period of these struggles when the Africans brought the blues, originally
originated from the Africans, to America. The arrival of this genre of music into America explains the
situation that is dealt with in this poem, which is a Negro man singing and playing the blues to

Lenox Avenue is a street in Harlem, New York; which, at the time, and even currently, do African
Americans mainly populate. Secondly, the use of imagery portrays his skin colour as it describes his
ebony hands (9). Given the time period, the physical description of the character allows readers to
understand why he d be singing the blues. Emotionally, the man in this poem seems to be quite lonely.
This is demonstrated through the lyrics he sings: Ain t got nobody in all this world, /Ain t got nobody
but ma self (19 20). The diction in these lyrics allows readers to see that the man feels alone in this
world. Furthermore, in the second stanza, he continues his song: I got the Weary Blues / And I can t be
satisfied / Got the Weary Blues / And can t be satisfied / I ain t happy no mo / And I wish that I had
died (25 30). The use of repetition in these lyrics, excluding the word I the second time, emphasizes
that he is unsatisfied but also suggests that he is the voice of other African Americans that were
dealing with a lifestyle like his. The poem ends by stating that the man slept like a rock or a man that s
dead (35). This simile is significant because it conveys that the subject is lifeless and supports the
ideas that he was singing about. His use of, and, passion in music is portrayed through the
personification of a piano: he made that poor

The Theory Of Child Rearing
1. Dr. John Watson, in his advocation in favor of nurture stated essentially, as we had discussed in
some of our class sessions, that his approach to child rearing would have a direct impact on outcomes.
It could be argued that child rearing is the one thing that could counter cultural influences as being
more impactful. We discussed closed cultures such as those from the east where members work in a
collectivist way to benefit society as a whole. Then we have the individualist societies similar to the
western cultures where individual achievement for self is considered to be of more value. Which I
believe contributes more to selfishness and an over emphasis on the aspects of I. This also takes me
back to the behavior modification class I had as an undergraduate. That there are certain ways to
behave in different social settings that may be presented to us on a daily basis. Such as we all behave
differently in a social settings such as, school, work, home, the mall, etc.. Behaviors in one location
may be acceptable but not another location. A good example would be that you can walk around naked
in the privacy of your own home but not at school. While a closed, collectivist culture may look down
upon what they may perceive as negative behaviors of those in their group, other outsiders from other
cultures may be given some slack because they don t know proper behavior, even if they are trying.
Those from these collectivist societies that travel to the west cannot

THE CANADIAN MAGAZINE DISPUTE THESIS STATEMENT
The negative effect of globalization on nearby culture is exacerbated by the day. It is developing with

  • 2. Pre School Teacher Assistant Job Analysis I spent much of my life trying to blend in with my peers, and to some extent, I continue to wear this mask of normalcy. However, my life has been anything but normal . I was born in Liberia in 1989, a few years before the outbreak of Civil War. I remember being awakened in the middle of the night and having to horridly leave home while gun shots filled the night sky. My first Job in high school I worked as Preschool Teacher Assistant in an early childhood mental health program designed to build resilience and to prevent behavioral and disabling aspects of children s mental and emotional disorders. In college I attained a position as a Support Specialist at the Springfield Massachusetts Behavioral Health Network, a non profit community dedicated helping individuals, families, and communities improve the quality of lives for those with behavioral health and developmental challenges. In this position I provided services to youth and families conducting interviews and learned to develop behavior intervention plan (BIP) to improve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 4. Predestination Essay Predestination Predestination, in the dictionary, is said to be the doctrine that God in consequence of his foreknowledge of all events infallibly guides those who are destined for salvation. Scripture has 2 very good passages for defining what predestination is: Jeremiah 1:5 which says Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. God is talking about Jeremiah in this passage and how God chose him before time; he was predestined for his job. Romans 8:28 30 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That God decreed to leave some in the common misery and not to bestow on them living faith and the grace of conversion. Calvin also believes that God predestined everything for everything that it does, such that God predestined me to be writing this report right now for my religion class, so that this isn t my own free will but it was God s set plan for me. Zanchius, a Reform Theologian, writes that there is most certainly a double predestination and gives passages to prove through God s Word that there is no other way. II Cor. 4:3 If our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. I Peter 2:8 They stumble because they disobey the message which is also what they were destined for. II Peter 2:12b #8230;They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish. Jude 1:4a For certain men who were marked out for condemnation long ago have secretly slipped among you. He concludes his arguments by saying that God could not erase a name that has been placed in the book of life or add a name because it was from eternity. He quotes Luther with, This is the very thing that razes the doctrine of free will from its foundation, to wit, that God s eternal love of some men and hatred of others is immutable and cannot be reversed. The truth about predestination is that God gives man a free will that he doesn t take control of or manipulate. So an unbeliever has a choice, he can either accept ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. , Dante, Inferno And The Inferno Most literary pieces written in the early Middle Ages were strictly written about different religions, God, Heaven and Hell. Authors like Dante usually wrote about Christianity unlike Boccacio. Boccacio wrote literary pieces based off of real people in real life situations, the things a lot of people wanted to read about but no other author dared to write about. In the story of Decameron, Boccacio uses the afterlife as a punchline in his said to be stories about entertainment. Throughout the many other stories he wrote, he dug into the good, bad and ugly and included all the details for all readers to have a vivid image. In juxtaposition, Dante s great masterpiece was The Divine Comedy which consisted of three parts: the Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. In The Inferno (or Hell) Dante explains his imaginary tour there and the different people he sees there. Both literary pieces give insight to the reader on how these authors thoughts and views on religion and the afterlife. In Boccacio s Decameron, the story told by Dioneo (third day, tenth story) is about the story of a young man using religion against a clueless young girl in order to have sex with her. Dioneo uses this story in a kind of flirtatious way towards the other story teller women. In this writing, It s almost as if Boccacio is throwing shade at Christians as a whole for being so religious but still sinning out of temptation. The story starts off with a young girl named Alibech who goes off to search for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. War Of The World Movie Vs Book Comparing Adaptations of Books and Film: The War of the Worlds Adaptations of books into movies are very common. In comparing the book by H.G. Wells, The War of the World, written in 1897 and the film with the same title directed by Steven Spielberg released in 2005 there are many similarities and many differences. Based on many of the facts of this story I believe this to be an intermediate adaptation. An intermediate adaptation is defined as, Some elements of the story are kept in the film, other elements are dropped, and still more elements are added (Desmond 44). This essay will look at some of the differences based on the era that the film version was produced in. The tone of the movie is different based on the era that the film was produced. During the early 2000 there were issues that were not as prevalent or discussed as in the 1890 s. One of these such topics is that of divorce and the new blended family. This movie showed a divorced father who was not present in the lives of his children. The children were dropped off by their mother who had planned a vacation with her new husband. The father is unprepared for the children s visit and he appears uncomfortable around his own children. In the book version, there is no mention of any children and the narrator is ... • 7. Reality Tv Negative Do you think that reality T.V. affects our kids? Many kids watch reality T.V. and they have not had a positive outcome. Once kids get into a situation they tend to react like how they think their favorite star would. Reality T.V. is not good for kids because it encourages bad behavior, lowers kids self esteem, and makes kids have a lack of focus. First once kids watch reality T.V. lowers many kids self esteem. Lots of these reality T.V. shows give the impression that their value is based on their appearance. Which to me it is not and it should not be to anyone. People should judge each other on you are as a person, not on how you look. For example shows like America s Next, Top Model compete to see who is the prettiest one or best fit for a model, to get 100,000 and a big modeling contract. It would feel horrible to get told that you were not pretty enough or not thin enough that is what leads to people having eating them because own skin. addition, to that Keeping Up WIth The Kardashians is one of the many shows that ... These woman have worked very hard to get their jobs but instead of focusing on that they focus more on conflicts. Lots of teens have shown materialism. Which is bad because they think that having more name brand things is better than their family. It is obvious that reality T.V. does not have many great effects because it , encourages bad behavior, makes kids have a lack of focus, and lowers their self esteem. For all of these reasons reality T.V. affects kids in a negative way. There are many positive shows out there like educational shows, historical shows, and even scientific shows. • 8. Ethical Issues In Omelas By Ursula Le Guin The story of Omelas presented by Ursula Le Guin provides a simple, yet profound ethical question. Is the misery of one person worth the ultimate happiness for everyone else? The story of Omelas describes a city in which there is no guilt. The citizens enjoy life to its fullest, partaking in pleasures without consequences and not dealing with complex social issues that are burdensome in other places. There are few laws, no kings, no slaves, and the luxuries in life exist, as long as they do not cause destruction. The child is ten years old, and is described as malnourished, underdeveloped, and scared. The child is in a closet, with dirt floors, and is fed a small amount of cornmeal and water every day. People come into the closet occasionally, but never speak to the child, as is a strict term of the agreement. This is the arrangement that allows Omelas to exist in the manner it does. This child seemingly bears the entire burden of misery for every other citizen in the city. The child is not a secret. Every citizen upon reaching a certain age is made aware of the child, and because of this, they are able to achieve the level of happiness, and appreciation for their own lives. I decided to go to a Catholic Church because both my father and husband are Catholic, and I have not been to Sunday Mass since I was a child and don t have much recollection of it. I wanted to have that experience now as an adult. I attended Sunday Mass at Mission San Jose. I wanted to go to a place that was rich with History. The bildungsroman follows the plain featured, poor, but honest, intelligent and dignified orphan s development from an oppressed young girl to an independent woman who has found balance between her often conflicting principles and sentiments. St. John serves as a foil to Rochester: the first one is cold, austere, ambitious, religious and reserved, while the other is passionate, impetuous, dark and mysterious. Marrying Rochester, Jane would fulfill her emotional need for love and affection but would neglect her duty to her moral principles and to her dignity (by becoming a mistress while Bertha was still alive). On the other hand, marrying St. John would bring her spiritual and moral satisfaction (as she would have a religious and righteous partner), while also leading a meaningful life as a missionary in India and having the opportunity to be more than just a governess, but, nonetheless, it would be a loveless, passionless marriage. This internal battle Jane faces between having to choose whether to gratify her emotions or her moral principles is not highlighted in the film, although, in my opinion, it represents a crucial point in her life. It was no different during the rise of automobiles in the embryonic Twentieth Century. People were essentially popping out of the woodworks trying to make it inside the (mangled ) metaphoric; automotive winners cabin. My Uncle and I used to take out a Piragus canoe and paddle across the lake s vastness as I peered down into the glassy water and clearly saw the castle rock formations. The fish quickly swam in and out of their hiding places like swarms of people making their way to work on a busy New York morning. The lake breathed with life and movement. Rolling green bluffs encircled the lake, creating a storybook like haven. So many beautiful woodlands and waterways like this continue to disappear due to the frac sand mining industry. Towering machinery replaces billowing trees with piles of red, earthy mounds, and the heavy clanking of metal on metal echoes across the land. Frac mining and fracking scars the land around it indefinitely. I am not an expert on environmental habitats or the mining industry, but my love for the outdoors and fishing drives me to investigate the harmful effects of frac sand mining. The frac sand mining industry exploits the remaining wilderness of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and surrounding states by selfishly polluting the environment; taking millions of gallons of water from freshwater resources, and disturbing essential minerals from the ground, thus prohibiting future habitat growth and creating significant health issues due to a surplus of dust. ... Detroit Diesel Corporation manufactures diesel and alternative fuel engines for use in trucks, buses, commercial and pleasure marine craft, military and so on. This is how Detroit Diesel has progressed over the years with engines and help of other distributors and dealers. The history of Detroit Diesel started in 1938 just as WWII was heating up. In the same year General Motors formed the GM Diesel Division which is the ancestor of Detroit Diesel. Kettering supervised experiments at GM as early as 1921 to develop a smaller, more efficient diesel. The small, practical GM diesel engine might have never been developed is Kettering hadn t been a yachtsman. Kettering purchased a diesel engine for his yacht and was so impressed, he convinced Sloan to buy the Cleveland, Ohio company named Winton that made the engine. Two accountants recently told me that the IRS is questioning (as they tended to do so years ago) whether filmmakers are hobbyists or professionals. They determine this on the basis of whether or not profits are made on a sustainable basis. Most obviously, one of the main issues facing our industry is supply and demand too many people willing to work for low wages in an industry in which there is too little demand in comparison to what is produced. Certainly, the indie doc economy has been impacted by oversupply, due in part by lower barriers to entry created by myriad of technological changes, and an ever changing media landscape. Let s look at the elephant in the room constructively, bravely, honestly and in the spirit of discovery. Before hearing the report on NPR today, I contemplated applying for the Ch4 BritDoc Fund. I read the following in small print: We cannot give you the level of funding that TV provides. On average, we invest (please define) between £10,000 and £30,000 and the budgets our filmmakers work to are very pared down. More often than not (though this varies from project to project) this means you will be expected to put your time in for free or a nominal sum until the deficit is raised. The text continued: When the Foundation invests (there s word again see the text of Dan Cogan s well intentioned but misguided Toronto Film Festival speech in IndieWire) in a film we fully come on board as Exec Producers. Free Radical Chain Reaction Lab Free Radical Chain Reactions: Bromination of Arenes Post Lab Report Reference: Experimental Organic Chemistry: A Miniscale and Microscale Approach 6th ed., by Gilbert and Martin, Chapter 9 Discussion: The purpose of the experiment as to explore how different hydrogen functional groups in hydrocarbons react with bromine through free radical chain substitution. The product is dependent on the type of hydrogen that is being subjected to the bromination, whether that be aliphatic, allylic, benzylic, vinylic, acetylenic, or aromatic. By comparing the relative reactivity rates between the different hydrogens to bromine, a hypothesized ranking of reactivity was made of the provided hydrocarbons: toluene, ethyl benzene, tert butylbenzene, cyclohexane, and methylcyclohexane. This hypothesis was then tested during the actual lab period by preparing two sets of reactions for each hydrocarbon: one in light and one in dark. Observations were noted throughout a thirty minute period in order to determine the experimental order of reactivity. The measure of time the advertisements were in perspective was either decided endogenously (as an element of perusing velocity) or exogenously (as a component of a clock and irregular task). Our outcomes propose that for presentation times of up to one moment, there is a solid, causal impact of introduction time on promotion acknowledgment and review, with the peripheral impacts decreasing at spans past this level. • 32. How Broken Families Rob Children Of Their Chances For... Imagine growing up in a poor community with an unstable family, would you be motivated to do well in school? Conditions like non stable parenting, growing up in a poor community, and not having a safe learning community all impact a student s education. • 33. A Letter to Jessica Dear Jessica: I hope and guess you are doing well in your new area and city, and your recent job is exciting as well. We are doing well here in Washington except for a few issues that have put me into a lot of worry and concern. I believe you do understand the challenges that come with adolescent children and the temptations that they face in life due to the different developments and changes that occur into them, as well as adventurous steps and ideologies that more often can lead them into great trouble and risk. My aim of writing you this letter is to share with you and seek your guidance and opinion about my son Joel, who turned 14 years two months ago. I am deeply worried and concerned that Joel might be involved or has started using drugs due to the differences that I have personally noted and observed in his behaviors and character in the last few months. I have been observing him, and I regret to tell you that this is not the child or boy that we knew him to be. My greatest worry is about his future that may be jeopardized and his education as well in the event that the boy is involved in drug abuse. I am certain that you as a parent you know and understand equally well the impact and pain that a parent experiences and faces seeing a loved one loose direction and ruining his or her future. As the old English adage says, blood is thicker than water; I have every reason to get worried. Joel has found new friends in the neighborhoods that are a little older than him ... Food Stamp Program Thesis The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as the Food Stamp program, was established as a safety net against hunger and malnutrition for low income Americans and their families. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance programs help millions of families, seniors, people with disabilities, and low wage working Americans afford access to enough food. Food stamps was first introduced to the American public as a pilot program during the Great Depression in the 1930s. Mabel McFadden of Rochester, NY was the first food stamp recipient. She paid four dollars and received six dollars worth of stamps in return. An orange stamp could buy any food, while a blue stamp was good for only what the Department of Agriculture deemed to be in surplus. That program lasted through the early 1940s. Food stamps were revived in the 1960s as part of the war on poverty, but Americans still had to pay for their stamp coupons. For the poorest, that was a hardship. In the ... Lenox Avenue is a street in Harlem, New York; which, at the time, and even currently, do African Americans mainly populate. Secondly, the use of imagery portrays his skin colour as it describes his ebony hands (9). Given the time period, the physical description of the character allows readers to understand why he d be singing the blues. Emotionally, the man in this poem seems to be quite lonely. This is demonstrated through the lyrics he sings: Ain t got nobody in all this world, /Ain t got nobody but ma self (19 20). The diction in these lyrics allows readers to see that the man feels alone in this world. Furthermore, in the second stanza, he continues his song: I got the Weary Blues / And I can t be satisfied / Got the Weary Blues / And can t be satisfied / I ain t happy no mo / And I wish that I had died (25 30). The use of repetition in these lyrics, excluding the word I the second time, emphasizes that he is unsatisfied but also suggests that he is the voice of other African Americans that were dealing with a lifestyle like his. The poem ends by stating that the man slept like a rock or a man that s dead (35). This simile is significant because it conveys that the subject is lifeless and supports the ideas that he was singing about. • 37. The Theory Of Child Rearing 1. Dr. John Watson, in his advocation in favor of nurture stated essentially, as we had discussed in some of our class sessions, that his approach to child rearing would have a direct impact on outcomes. It could be argued that child rearing is the one thing that could counter cultural influences as being more impactful. We discussed closed cultures such as those from the east where members work in a collectivist way to benefit society as a whole. Then we have the individualist societies similar to the western cultures where individual achievement for self is considered to be of more value. Which I believe contributes more to selfishness and an over emphasis on the aspects of I. This also takes me back to the behavior modification class I had as an undergraduate. That there are certain ways to behave in different social settings that may be presented to us on a daily basis. Such as we all behave differently in a social settings such as, school, work, home, the mall, etc.. Behaviors in one location may be acceptable but not another location. A good example would be that you can walk around naked in the privacy of your own home but not at school. While a closed, collectivist culture may look down upon what they may perceive as negative behaviors of those in their group, other outsiders from other cultures may be given some slack because they don t know proper behavior, even if they are trying. Those from these collectivist societies that travel to the west cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
