Pt1420 Unit 2 Assignment 1
Starting off: Each Player is dealt 7 cards. Before the first hand is dealt, players must shuffle the deck,
and choose a random card from the deck. The lowest card chose has to deal. After this, the dealer must
deal 7 cards to each player in a clockwise rotation and flip one card face up on the table. A player can
have up to 7 cards in their hand at a time.
The whole point of the game is to neighbor the card that is currently placed on the table. Scoring will
be explained later so I don t confuse you off the start, but I will explain point scenarios and how you
should lay it down. It is kind of like the card game Speed or any other card games that involve
straights and the same suits to double points. For instance, if I have an A ♥ face up on the table; my
turn, and I have 7 cards in my hand: 7♠, J♥, A♦, K♠, 2♥, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would lay down the K♥ behind the A♥ and the 2♥ on top of the A♥ to earn 4 points. In this game, a
player is offered with the around the world effect that you see in Rummy and other games out there. A
player would earn 2 points for both cards placed and when both cards are suited players earn double
the value, so, in this case, 4 points will be earned. Once their turn is done, a player must choose the
King ♥ or the 2 ♥ for the next player to play off of. If the player(s) can t play off of it, he/she can play
off of it. If he/she can t play off the card, and no one else can; then, the top card of the deck must be
flipped for other players to play off of it. Also, when cards run out of the deck player(s) turn who is up
next would leave the top card that needs to be played off of, and shuffle the rest underneath into the
deck and place it down. The

The Marine Corps For Eight And A Half Years
I have served in the Marine Corps for Eight and a half years. I happened to choose a job where most
people don t volunteer to Enlist into. I have spent my entire career as an Infantryman. This job that I
choose to become part of has brought me to many places. Most people join the Marine Corps to see
the world, but I wanted to fight. I was afforded the opportunity to partake in Operation Iraqi Freedom,
and Operation Enduring Freedom covering both theaters our nation is at war with. Throughout those
years many things have begun to change. We are no longer actively engaged in armed conflict, and
with that comes many changes with rules, regulations, and standards. Our country is in an interesting
time with political correctness over shadowing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The military across the board has been making a transition in to peace time life. This is fairly difficult
for people like myself, because we are used to the Marine Corps being a certain way. Nearly Ninety
percent of the Infantry in 2007 was composed of individuals that knew, or were asking to go to war.
With the tightening down on certain aspects of rather relaxed rules and regulations. From the time that
I had joined, many of our war hardened hero s found themselves in a predicament with having to leave
the military by force. Rules such as the tattoo policy which at one time was ok to have tattoos,
overnight Combat Veteran Marines were told to find work elsewhere. Knowing the reasons why I had
originally joined, and seeing what was becoming of future warfighters, I knew I didn t see the true
focus of the mission at hand. My second reason for deciding to leave the military is the hardships that
my family has had to endure. It was until recently that my wife and I had our first child. For the past
eight years it has just been her, and I. My first duty station was in Hawaii, this made it a nightmare for
my then girlfriend to come and visit. Once I had returned from my first deployment we decided to get
married. Roughly four months later I was headed to Afghanistan on my second deployment. My wife
had decided to stay in Hawaii while I was deployed. I didn t quite take in to account how difficult that
must have been for her, not really knowing anyone.

Risk and Return
Return, Risk and The Security Market Line An Introduction to Risk and Return
Whether it is investing, driving or just walking down the street, everyone exposes themselves to risk.
Your personality and lifestyle play a big role in how much risk you are comfortably able to take on. If
you invest in stocks and have trouble sleeping at night, you are probably taking on too much risk. (For
more insight, see A Guide to Portfolio Construction.) Risk is defined as the chance that an investment
s actual return will be different than expected. This includes the possibility of losing some or all of the
original investment.
Those of us who work hard for every penny we earn have a hard time parting with money. Therefore,
people with less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The variance of a portfolio s return is a function of the variance of the component assets as well as the
covariance between each of them. Covariance is a measure of the degree to which returns on two risky
assets move in tandem. A positive covariance means that asset returns move together. A negative
covariance means returns move inversely. Covariance is closely related to correlation, wherein the
difference between the two is that the latter factors in the standard deviation.
Modern portfolio theory says that portfolio variance can be reduced by choosing asset classes with a
low or negative covariance, such as stocks and bonds. This type of diversification is used to reduce
risk.
Portfolio variance looks at the covariance or correlation coefficient for the securities in the portfolio.

Organizational Leaders Essay examples
We, as organizational leaders, operate in uncertain times that are constantly changing. By changing the
view of our environment, subordinates, and ourselves as leaders, we can lead the Brigade to success.
If we continue to do business the old way, we can only fail. In order to move forward we must be
ready for the resistance to the change we are proposing. Either by lack of trust or individuals believes
that change is not possible we must be ready to employ hard, rational, or soft influencing techniques
that can deal with the changes that we use to prepare the Brigade for its next employment. The three

This coalition of leaders will develop a vision of the future and develop its path to implementation.
Once this is complete, you are ready to communicate your vision to the Brigade.
You communicate your future vision throughout the Brigade by developing a vision that is effective

leadership and the Brigade staff to not only ensure that they understand and fit into your vision, but
also what will be required of them and what must change. This will facilitate feedback that will help
refine your vision.
Implementing the vision that is based on systems thinking is recommended. As the vision gains
acceptance, it can be broken down to show how the end state will be achieved with measurable and
assessable steps, and identifiable priorities. As you execute the vision, have the Battalion Commanders
continually update you on the progress of the goals that you have established. Include the staffs and
the NCO Chains to ensure that your vision is widespread throughout the Brigade. We must plan for
short term successes to include completing the late FLIPLs within the Brigade and reestablishing a

The Native American Reservations Of The Native Americans
The Native American Reservations Imagine being told that if you migrate to a certain location you ll
be helped with nutrition and your finance will be covered. Sounds good right? Well this is what the
American government promised the Native Americans. A promise that wasn t granted. Many
reservations have actually created a sense of confinement and detachment. The reservations have
limited resources which separates them from the American Culture and society. This is shown through
the laws we ve passed to aid them, and the battle for other native Americans to stand up for their
rights. Also their constant struggle for justice. Native Americans have been widely ignored. Their past
and current struggles they face. Most Americans know all about know the happy Native Americans
that have been celebrated on thanksgiving, but don t seem to know the ones who fought for their rights
. Many Native Americans didn t have a voice, and some still don t. During World War I,
approximately 9,000 Native Americans fought and died while protecting their own country in return
they didn t have their rights granted to them. These rights included their Citizenship. Sounds kind of
crazy how you live on your own land but need a citizenship. Although, some Native Americans were
given a chance to become a citizen, it involved them not practicing their tribal traditions and adapting
to American culture. United States citizenship was just another way of absorbing us and destroying
our customs

Biblical Numbers In The Book Of Ephesians
When thinking about Biblical numbers many people may easily identify with the Book of Genesis,
God creates the universe and everything in it within seven days (Genesis 1:1 2). Scripture is filled
with numerical values that faithfully can unify the seeker with his or her Creator they can find that
through definitive numbers a person may begin to appreciate the power of the Almighty One. In
Scripture, the number one has boundless significance as seen in in the Book of Ephesians (New
International Version or NIV) There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called one hope when
you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and
through all and in all (Ephesians 4:4 6). Two is another

The Importance Of A Modified Barium Swallow Study At...
I had the opportunity to observe a Modified Barium Swallow Study at Arkansas Children s Hospital
this semester. It was informative, interesting, and sparked left me researching unfamiliar terms as I left
the study. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this observation experience and I feel as though it is
one of the most, if not the most, beneficial hands on experiences I have had thus far. The differences
between pediatrics and geriatrics have been discussed, taught, and even viewed through video in class,
but there is nothing quite like seeing all of those differences in person. I would like to start off
mentioning that I had pre conceived idea of what my experience was going to be with a 9 month old. I
had prepared myself for crying, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were various cups set out with different labels on the side. Legally they have to put labels on
everything used by the patient that has their name, D.O.B, and that barium was used. The SLP poured
barium into the cups, which she then flavored with Kool Aid and then barium was added to
applesauce. This allowed the SLP to test various consistencies and see how the patient tolerated them.
Thin, Nectar, and Puree consistencies were observed during the study. The study requires several
disciplines to be presented in the room in order for it to be completed. There was a radiologist,
radiology technician, nurse, an SLP, and the mother of the child. This made for a tight space during
the study itself. Once the room was prepped and all required personnel was ready the SLP went to get
the family.
The steps were explained in detail to the mother and then instructions were given to her on which way
the child should be facing while being fed the samples. I was surprised to learn that the child s mother
was actually the one feeding him the test consistencies and not a trained professional. There were so
things happening in the room all at once. The SLP was trying to watch the monitor for penetration and
aspiration all while trying to help the mother keep the baby s attention. Then the radiologist says deep
penetration and two seconds later silent aspiration . The nurse wrote this information down on a sheet
which specifies exactly when, where, and what consistency was

Macbeth Play Comparison
After viewing the movie Macbeth, I believe that the movie is very similar to the play with only a few
discrepancies for dramatics. In the beginning of the movie, which portrays Act I, the scene opens on
the battlefield in which Macbeth and Banquo are introduced by the dying Captain; Macbeth and
Banquo are praised as valiant soldiers for Scotland. Just as in the play, Macbeth and Banquo come
upon the three witches, but the setting is dark and eery and takes place in what seems to be a
warehouse. The three witches stand across the room and address Macbeth as the Thane of Glamis, the
Thane of Cawdor, and the future king. They address Banquo with paradoxical statements that are seen
in the play as well. The only differences in Act I of the movie and Act I of the play is the movie does
not open up with the witches speaking to one another and they show the execution of the Thane of
Cawdor. I believe these minute changes were made to add ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this part of the movie, this act contains more than a few discrepancies between the it and the play.
For example, the murder of Banquo begins on a train, not in a field while Banquo and Fleance come
on horses. On the train, Banquo is poisoned by the murderers then hit throat is cut open once the lights
go out. After this scene, Macbeth holds the dinner at his house to celebrate himself, just as in the play.
At this dinner, however, while the ghost of Banquo does appear, he does not appear sitting in Macbeth
s chair but rather walks on the table towards Macbeth. While his entrance is different, Macbeth reacts
the same way; horrified. Macbeth, in front of all his guests, yells at the ghost and Lady Macbeth
attempts to cover up this outburst by saying he has had these fits since he was a child. Act III of the
movie contains many differences, but ultimately it contributes to the same plotline in the

Unit 3 Types Of Cell Essay
6. The gradient across the membrane represents potential energy because the gradient plays a major
role of triggering whether diffusion is needed or not, and diffusion is after all, fueled by energy. For
example, if there is an imbalance in the cell and the cell environment, then the concentration gradient
has the potential to trigger diffusion (energy change because of moving molecules) to occur and create
an equilibrium state.
7. Osmosis is the process in which water diffuses across a selectively permeable membrane. The three
types of cell environment include a hypertonic, isotonic, and hypotonic. In a hypertonic environment,
the cell environment have more solute concentrations outside than inside of the cell, which results in
more water ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Four ways that large molecules and substances are transported across a membrane include
phagocytosis, pinocytosis, receptor mediated endocytosis and receptor proteins. During phagocytosis,
the cell engulfs a particle by wrapping pseudopodia around the particle and packing the particle within
the food vacuole (membranous sac). Once the food vacuole integrates with a lysosome (w/ hydrolytic
enzyme), the particle will be digested. The second way is pinocytosis, in which the cell takes in
droplets of extracellular fluid and packs it into tiny vesicles; after this, the tiny vesicles are then
transported into the cell because the molecules dissolved in the droplets are the main factors that the
cells need. The third process is known as receptor mediated endocytosis which the cells takes in large
quantities of specific substances of all concentration in the Extracellular (EC) fluid; the membranes of
the cell vesicle are embedded with proteins that has certain receptor sites that are exposed to the EC
fluid in which ligand binds to. Then, the last step is that the receptor proteins cluster in regions of the
membrane known as coated pits which contain fuzzy layer of coat proteins on the exterior; then, each
coated pit forms a vesicle which contains the ligand molecules and after the ingested material is
released from the vesicle, the vesicles then recycle the receptors to the plasma

The Collapse Of International Order Under World War I
US President Woodrow Wilson encouraged the creation of the League of Nations in 1920, under the
principle of collective security. Following the collapse of international order under World War I, the
League attempted to use the power of a number of states to counteract aggression. Jones and Sherman
indicated the common belief that the more the nations, worked together to address humanitarian,
social and economic issues, the more likely they were to establish mutual interests. thus a strong
deterrent against future conflict. (Jones and Sherman, 1927, p.140) War was to be prevented by
encouraging disarmament and defusing conflict between states through moral pressure and economic
sanctions. Despite defusing minor conflicts and helping advance human rights; the League of Nations
ultimately failed to achieve its key objective, to prevent the outbreak of war on the same scale as
World War I. Carr s 20 years crisis implies that it was the events of post world war I including the
impact of the League that subsequently led to World War II. (Carr, 1939 cited by Jorensen, p.60)
However, the organization was an improvement from the traditional balance of power and
congressional system, it left a legacy in upholding human rights through the United Nations.
One of the main objectives in establishing the League of Nations was to ensure that the Treaty of
Versaille was upheld. Not only did the League fail to hinder Germany militarily, but it increased the
threat it posed in continuing

The Shootings On College Campuses
Introduction In this past year alone there have been 23 shootings on college campuses, not including
incidents that have occurred at other grade level schools. Innocent students and teachers have been
injured or killed in each of these shootings. School shootings are not restricted to one geographic area;
they are spread across the United States, from Arizona to Florida to every thing in between. There is
no way to tell when or where events like this will occur, so many wonder how to prevent traumatic
events like this. In the United States all 50 states have passed laws to allow concealed carry, but only
under certain restrictions and mandates. Concealed carry allows individuals the ability to carry certain
concealed firearms in public. In order to carry a concealed weapon qualified individuals must obtain a
permit from a designated government authority. Certain states demand different requirement, as well
some do not allow Non residents permits. Some state regulations may ban concealed weapons in
specified places, like churches and schools. Due to recent shootings occurring at educational
institution, a number of people are asking whether this restriction is rational: Should states permit
concealed weapons on college campuses? Are guns on campus a deterrence to school shootings? The
purpose of this report is to determine if allowing carry concealed weapons on college campus is a
beneficial asset. After doing substantial research on this controversial question my

Disadvantages Of Crude Oil
1. Introduction: Crude oil Crude oil is a mixture of molecules bonded together in chains called
hydrocarbons, hydrogen and carbons, and mostly consists of a family of hydrocarbons called alkanes
(CnH2n+2). Figure 1 1 displays a type of hydrocarbon. As a leading product on the global market we
think of crude oil as a valuable substance, but are there more efficient materials, less pollutant
substances and more reliable constituents that can support our future? Crude oil is formed from the
remains of deceased fauna and flora which were compressed under large segments at excessive
pressures and temperatures. Crude oil is known as a non renewable or finite resource and will
eventually deplete making it a limited resource that takes hundreds of years to develop, so finding a
replacement to help transition the reliance on crude oil is crucial. Crude oil is used in a range of
everyday items such as plastics, fuel, heating oil and other important products. If the price of crude oil
rises the prices of fuel, food, clothing, everything rises with it. This could result in a major global
crises but using alternatives would ease or even erase this problem. [1] 2. Industry and producer

in their products because of their qualities, values and properties. For example our food industry. Our

Teenagers and Cosmetic Surgery
Since the year 2007, 1,339,229 cosmetic surgeries have been performed on the age group of 13 19. In
a world where people are judged by their physical appearance, it is common for teenagers to be
uncomfortable with their bodies. As a way of conforming to society s image of physical perfection,
more and more teenagers are turning to cosmetic surgery as a solution. The purpose for this paper is to
make the problems of teenagers having cosmetic surgery, in order to physically change themselves to
society s standards, known. Teenagers should not be having cosmetic surgery because at this age the

But why are these parents so eager to help change their children and why are their children so eager to
change themselves? They claim that they are trying to be more comfortable with their bodies by being
more like everybody else (Stossel). However the reason for which they desire a cosmetic procedure is
too immature even for a graduate of high school, therefore plastic surgeons and the parents of these
individuals should be discouraging them from having cosmetic surgery, instead of encouraging and
supporting them.
Teenagers hope that by changing a part of their body in order to fit in they will automatically become
more popular among their peers. However, this is not the case. In fact rather than giving an
overabundance of confidence, most often, cosmetic surgery only gives temporary confidence to the
individual (Emerson Media). This shows the maturity in the decision making. In a survey conducted to
see what percentage of 15 year old females were uncomfortable with their bodies, a range of 80% to
90% were uncomfortable. However, the survey switched and asked young women in college if they
were uncomfortable with their body,
Cowan 4
80% to 90% of those young women were comfortable with their bodies rather than being
uncomfortable with them like the 15 year old girls (The Plastic Surgery Channel).

College Bound Novel: One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest by Ken
Kesey is a brilliant novel copyrighted in 1963 it is about a man testing his limits with his authority, the
nurse. Ken Kesey was influenced to write this novel after being part of a experiment involving the
effect LSD had on people s minds.( One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest Background. ) This novel
shows what I believe are true aspects of the way our world conceives people within a mental
institution. The novel starts with Bromden, the narrator also a patient of the institution, sweeping the
halls while the nurse targets the black men. Soon after McMurphy is brought in as a new admission,
patient. Immediately everybody notices his presence because of how he carries himself when he gets
their. When he first comes in he goes into the day room and introduces himself to everyone. He then
brings a level of intimidation to all of the patients and lets them know that he is going to be taking
over. He first brings gambling into the hospital betting with cigarettes, and he soon becomes top dog at
the hospital not letting anyone even come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Invisibility is a very displayed theme when it comes to Bromden within the novel. Bromden is seen to
be a deaf dumb Indian however he is not deaf. Which allows him to be observant without anyone
thinking twice about it. McMurphy is the only character that breaks through his barrier of invisibility
and makes a close relationship with him. The second theme I found is the power of intimidation, I
notice this as a theme because McMurphy has gained a lot of power over all of the residents because
of intimidation. He has the ability to get into their minds and change decisions they may or may not
want to make, which helps him get away with all of the bad things he bring into the hospital.(Kesey,

The first theatrical production I was ever involved in as a tech crew member, happened by pure
accident. At the end of the school day, a group of friends whisked me away to their drama club

was the genesis of a brand new passion. From starting off as an average stage hand to becoming a full

Since starting in the field of technical theatre, it seems like it s been show after show. A grand total of

through how to draw it using the illustration below for clarity. They will need to fill in the types of
pies before being given the data; you can use the types of pies that are listed in the book on page 12, or
you can have the class fill it in with 4 different types of pies. After they have drawn their table, they
will need to fill it in. Give them the following data: First row (whatever type of pie you decided) 8,

Negative Effects Of Wild Animals
Not only do zoos cause physical damage to animals, but also, they cause mental and emotional issues
in wild animals. After all animals do display signs of consciousness, so they do have feelings about
being locked up in displays and cages around the clock. Recently, a group of animal researchers
signed a declaration proclaiming that animals are self aware. Alex Halberstadt s article called Zoo
Animals and Their Discontent stated, The Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness in Human and
Nonhuman Animals was signed by a group of leading animal researchers in the presences of Stephen
Hawking. It asserted that mammals, birds, and other creatures like octopuses possess consciousness,
and in all likelihood, emotions and self awareness. Several animals remember and feel emotion, so
leaving them in a box all day seems slightly torturous. Humans should have empathy for the contained
animals. It turns out common shore crabs feel and remember pain, zebra flinches experience REM
sleep, fruit fly brothers cooperate, dolphins and elephants recognize themselves in mirrors,
chimpanzees assist one another without expecting favors in return, and dogs really do feel elation in
their owner s presence (Halberstadt). These feelings sometimes have some dangerous effects, as
animals can and do act out against their aggressors.
When wild animals kept in captivity act out against captivity, they develop unusual symptoms known
to experts as zoochosis in some cases. The article Zoos on

Question 1:
Rebecca, you do seem quite depressed today thinking about your family s support of your efforts in
college. There are just few things I would ask we explore today.
As a MSW 1st semester student the workload is intentionally heavy. It is quite natural, and I think
most of your classmates would agree, to feel overwhelmed by the course work. Have you explored
these feeling and have your discussed the workload with your fellow classmates?
Could there be some additional pressure, as the first in your family to go to college, you are placing on
yourself? Could you be trying so hard at your work in school to please your family you are
disappointing yourself? Then when you become disappointed in yourself you resent your family for
not being supportive enough.
Question 2:
Maria, let s stop and think about what you just said for a moment. You say your father does not listen

Theme Of Anna Karenina
The context of the next significant death in the novel decidedly contrasts the death of Nicholas Levin.
Anna Karenina, after falling from grace and her elevated social stratum, desperately searches for
meaning in her life. She fears that she no longer provides Count Vronsky with any sort of pleasure and
constantly seeks to improve herself in order to keep his attention and love focused on her. In a
constant state of inadequacy, Anna cannot even sleep without a heavy dose of opium. Anna grows
dependent upon the drug, and one night, She poured out her usual dose of opium and thought that she
need only drink the whole phial in order to die, it seemed to her so easy and simple that she began
thinking with pleasure of how he would suffer, repent, and love her memory when it was too late
(Tolstoy 680). Tolstoy foreshadows Anna s demise in this passage. Anna feels that, were she to kill
herself, she could finally solicit the attention and love she craves so adamantly. However, on further
considering this avenue, All was darkness. Death! she thought. And such terror came upon her
(Tolstoy 680). She quickly dismisses this thought, desiring to live her life fully. However, the seeds of
something horrible are planted in her mind. Those seeds sprout as Anna continues to trudge through
her lackluster life. Anna stumbles upon the train tracks, and, Suddenly remembering the man who had
been run over the day she first met Vronsky, she realized what she had to do (Tolstoy 694). Anna

A New World Order For The United States
A New World Order
The 20th century brought with it a plethora of technological advancements that acted as a catalyst for
an important and lasting shift in the United State s perception of its role in the world. Technological
advancement in travel and communication changed the American people s views of the world,
therefore changing the direction of American foreign policy. This shift in foreign policy would
eventually lead the United States into the grips of two horrific wars on the European continent.
However, these wars would provide the necessary environment for the country to establish itself as the
leader of the international system a title it would desperately need tin order to attempt to create a new,
less conflict ridden global order. Though World War I set the stage for the United States to assume a
global leadership role, which then set the stage for a second world war, it is not to say that the United
States ever wanted anything to do with a European war in the first place. I argue that the U. S. failures
to prevent World War I and World War II was due to a series of actions and events beginning at the
turn of the century (a domino effect) that made it impossible to avoid joining either war once they
began.

The Management Of The Leisure And Hospitality Sector
The management of the leisure and hospitality sector needs to understand the perception of young
students towards adopting a career in the industry. This is important because a shortage of skilled
workers in the sector can lead to great difficulties. According to Marchante, Ortega, and Pagan,
(2003), skills shortage can adversely affect the productivity of the firm due to not meeting the quality
requirements and delays in the introduction of new services for the customers. Moreover, poor
retention rates can lead to additional problems including increased cost because of training and
recruiting the employees (Kusluvan and Kusluvan, 2000).

Most of the existing literature on the perception of students about a career in the leisure and hospitality
industry states that the students have mostly negative perception about a career in the leisure and
hospitality industry (Teng, 2008). The interest of students in the industry has decreased over time
(Fraser, 2003).
The attitude towards the leisure and hospitality sector of the Generation Y is influenced by different
factors such as incentive systems, salary, career opportunities, and the opportunity to travel (Getz,
1994). However, according to Gustafason (2002, p12) the industry operates at only about 4 percent
profit margins and so cannot offer high wages to the employees.
The studies have revealed other factors besides pay that result in lack the motivation and
determination of pursuing a career in the hospitality sector. According to Ross (1997), students
indicated that they the demand of direct customer interaction, and acting courteously and friendly with

Counter-Culture Youth Pic Essay
In the following essay, I will attempt to highlight the phenomenon in cinema known as the
counterculture youth pic. This trend in production started in the late 1960 s as a result of the economic
and cultural influences on the film industry of that time. The following essay looks at how those
influences helped to shape a new genre in the film industry, sighting Easy Rider as a main example,
and suggests some possible reasons for the relatively short popularity of the genre.
The standard story of the counterculture begins with an account of the social order against which it
rebelled, a social order that was known to just about everyone by 1960 as the mass society. The tale of

Following the beatnik movement of the late 1950 s a number of young people, embracing some of the
same ideas, congregated in San Diego s Haight suburb. But it was not necessarily just the youth of the
day that were part of this social rejection.
The last half of the 1960 s saw the emergence of seemingly new cultures among young people, which
were promptly collapsed under the label youth culture by adults. Even so, these cultures were neither
entirely novel, nor limited to young people, nor so homogeneous as to be described by one label.
(Grans, Comparative Analysis)
Part of what made this movement so distinguishable at the time was the rebellion against the fashion
industry, as well as social norms. It was relatively easy to pick out which people sympathized with the
movement, especially with the characteristic male look of the Jesus Christ hair and beard. They
dressed to highlight their freakiness, combining clothes of other times and cultures.

native American headbands, capes, cowboy and Beatle boots, hats bowlers, stove top, cowboy,

It was not only the social values and fashion trends that were experimented with. This period in
history also saw a large rise in drug usage.

information on the desktop version than the mobile. The mobile version only has two images on the

The user is also unable to access their account on the mobile version. Most mobile versions have a
link at the bottom of the desktop or full site version but it does not work. The full site version link just
opens up another tab that contains the mobile version and not the desktop version like it is supposed

site is pretty easily navigated the user can pick a category and see all of the other categories within the

In order to make the site better they should make the words bigger and if it being too crowded is the

order to read them more easily. There is a text size button that helps to increase the size of the text but

Essay on Racism in America Today
Racism can be defined as beliefs, attitudes, actions or behaviors that are based on phenotypic
characteristics or ethnic affiliation (Patcher, 2010). Racism is a struggle that, to this day, has continued
to be a major issue. The color of someone s skin alters how a person is perceived by society as a
whole. Race is a social construct created by humans to categorize the world. (Ponds, 2013) The
outlook on racism varies from community to community, family to family, and even person to person.
Skin color can alter all aspects of an individual s life, because unlike internal differences and beliefs,
skin color is a physical appearance. Social status, perceptions, roles, occupation are just a few of the

The white majority is often of the opinion; minority racial groups like African Americans ultimately
bring this suffering upon themselves. The white community is often quick to deny the significance of
the negative impact of racism in today s society. Behaviors still show rasicism and discrimination that
say whites have the upper hand. (Gallagher, 2008) Not only that but most of the negative stereotypes
that were made up about minorities are continued to be used today. These stereotypes like African
Americans are thieves or Mexicans have to many children gives whites that supremacy feeling.
(George, 2013) They often go as far as to claim that quite the opposite situation exists today, that
minority races actually have advantages over the majority. They are quick to point to Affirmative

arguments, it is easily demonstrated that the measurable challenges facing minorities clearly out way
the advantages given. Conversely, there are clear measurable advantages to being part of the white

Wireless Mobile Telecommunication Technology And The...
Abstract
With the development of mobile devices and web applications, people tend to access data, audio,
picture and video from their mobile devices anywhere and anytime, thus, wireless mobile
telecommunication becomes more and more important. Cellular network technology is the basis for
the wireless mobile telecommunication. And the generation is used to describe the development
history of wireless mobile telecommunication standard and technology, from first generation (1G) to
fifth generation (5G). Fourth generation (4G) is currently widely commercialized around the world by
different wireless service providers, or carriers. Mobile WiMAX and Long Term Evolution (LTE) are
two technology categories in 4G systems and the spread spectrum radio technology behind 4G is
orthogonal FDMA (OFDMA). 4G not only provides internet speeds that are five times faster than 3G,
but also reduces likelihood of losing the connection significantly, solving the problem of unreliability.
with sudden drops in speed and complete outages. LTE is based on the GSM/ EDGE and UMTS/
HSPA network technologies, offering high speeds and low latencies over long distances. FDD LTE
and TDD LTE are two different standards for LTE 4G technology. Besides, LTE Advanced is a major
enhancement of the LTE standard, in order to reach and surpass the ITU requirements.

are not just a part of our food circle while they are also good as a friend like dogs or cats for relasing

years back and we can watch it on streets by owners for anger, in forests by hunters for hobby and for
their skin, in hospitals by doctors for testing. Therefore humans are putting earth into a danger zone as
animal cruelty bestow negative impacts on environment such as animal extinction (The Editors of

Running Head: Concepts of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s stone
Within the story of Harry Potter there are many concepts to be noted. This book is interesting and very
different from any other book. These many concepts will tell you about some of these strange things
that goes on.
Shortly after Harry was born a villain called Voldermont killed his parents. Somehow Harry did not
die from Voldermont, but not only did he live, he almost killed this great dart magician. As the only
survivor, a giant called Hagrid took him to his Aunt and Uncle Dursleys house and left them on the

By definition Harry had an ascribed status in his life. Ever since he was a little boy and lived through
one of the best dark magicians magic, he was known as the boy who lived. Everyone knew who he
was. When he went to dragon alley with Hagrid, at school, everybody whispered about him as he
passed in the hallways.
As soon as Harry passed through that gate of nine and three quarters he entered a kind of total
institution. A place where he was cut off from the society that he knows and would then be controlled
by the officials, or a principal and teachers. This happens because he can t really go back home with
out regretting it and when he gets there like always the principal and teachers basically control you
anyway.
The looking glass self happens when our self develops by internalizing others reactions from what we
say or others say. A good example of this is when everyone is on the train riding to Hogwarts. Harry
was talking to one of his friends and was talking about Voldermont. Every time he said that name, his
friend told him that he shouldn t use that name and just say you know who. Harry learned this fast
because every time he d say it, his friend would either tell him or get a scared look on his face.
When Harry arrives he is a hero to almost everyone before he even knows who they are. Now he

U.s. Foreign Policy During The Cold War Essay
The overview of The U.S. Foreign Policy
The objective of the U.S. foreign policy course is to develop personal ability for applying IR theories
to the U.S. foreign policy. Then, students will be able to understand the direction as well as the
grounds of the U.S. foreign policy. To achieve this objective, I will discuss major the theoretical issues
through the brief history of the U.S. foreign policy until the Cold War. After that, I will examine the
challenges which the U.S. confronts.
One of the theoretical issues in the U.S. foreign policy is the concept of isolationism and
internationalism(or interventionism). To comprehend this concept, we need to figure out the history of
the U.S. foreign policy briefly to find consistency in the flow of the policies. The Monroe Doctrine,
which is famous for the declaration against European Imperialism (Monroe, 1823), was actually not
the first argument of isolationism. As a matter of fact, isolationism began from George Washington s
Farewell Address. (Washington, 1796) Meanwhile, President Woodrow Wilson tried to change the
America s isolationism and to realize his liberalism via his Fourteen Points and the League of the
Nations. (Wilson, 1918) However, his effort failed with the opposition of the parliament and the
interest of World War I s victorious countries.
In 1940s, the U.S. participated and took a significant role in the World War II, and could not hold
isolationism due to the threat of communism and Soviet in Europe.

Conch Shell Symbolism
What does the conch shell in Lord of the Flies truly represent? In Lord of the Flies by William
Golding, a group of young boys are stranded on an island where they try to maintain a civilization far
away from society. The conch shell that Piggy and Ralph find is used to create a small democracy on
the island. It is a symbol of the civilization on the island, the order that the boys have, and the power
that a single person can possess. It represents how much of a connection they have to society, and the
degree of civilization that still remains. The conch is an important part of their survival because
without the conch, the boys can no longer live in harmony with one another and will eventually
destroy each other. Without order and civilization, the island cannot be called a society. They can no
longer hold themselves together, and have a higher chance of destruction. Over time, the boys begin to
lose sight of civilization. When the conch is finally destroyed, the order between them is destroyed as
well. The conch shell symbolizes the boys civilization, order, and power. At the beginning of the story,
the conch is emphasized as a symbol of order, as that is the first idea that comes up when an assembly
is established. When the conch is blown, all of the boys head to the mountain where Piggy and Ralph
are located. The conch constituted order for them and allowed them to start a civilization in the first
place. It also represents power among the boys. Golding shows Ralph s

The Slavery Of The South
The South, on the other hand, was highly dependent upon the institution of slavery. It was still
primarily an agricultural society that needed as many laborers as possible in order for the plantation
owners to make ends meet. According to historian Douglas Harper, In 1793 came the cotton gin,
which brought a 50 fold increase in the average daily output of short staple cotton, promoted the rapid
expansion of a cotton kingdom across the Deep South, and made large scale slavery profitable.
Because of this, the slave became an essential tool to the farmers of the south; more money became
invested in slavery rather than in industrial improvements. Based upon the 1860 U.S. Census, there
were almost a whopping total of four million slaves in the South alone. In fact, the more slaves an
owner had, the more prestige. Most slave owners owned fewer than five slaves, and only 12 percent of
Southerners had twenty or more slaves. Many whites who had no slaves looked with envy upon the
wealthy, and to a degree admired them. This hierarchy had a clearly defined social structure which
created distinctions between rich and poor whites as well as racial segregation. This agricultural
society and its strict hierarchy only increased the social and racial disparities found in the southern
region of the United States.
These differences in cultures inevitably led to the difference in Bible interpretations. These different
interpretations occurred primarily in response to the moral debate

Comparing Oxygen And The Larynx
Oxygen and The Larynx
Both in Mary Oliver s Oxygen and Alice Jones s The Larynx use the same central idea that bodily
functions can do so much for a person. In Oxygen the poet describes how the character has had a
breathing issue their whole life and has an oxygen machine to help them breath well, and it is beautiful
(Oliver 824). In The Larynx the poet describes how singing requires the strength and ability to make
the body an instrument. Both poems use the body to make something beautiful, for better or for worse.
In Oxygen , the speaker is about a family member of someone who has an ill breathing problem. The
speaker describes that seeing the family member try to breath with a lack of air as the fire, stirring

The speaker goes into great detail on how the larynx is compounded, with elegant jargon. The central
theme of the poem is that singing is more than a talent, and the poem uses imagery to show how from
the bottom of the larynx, Under the epiglottis flap, the long ridged tube sinks, its shaft down to the
bronchial fork (Jones 829), to the top, where sound is produced, is a process; here the cords arch, in
the hollow of this ancient instrument, curve and vibrate to make a song (Jones 829). Just like in
Oxygen , there is no rhyme scheme. But unlike Oxygen , The Larynx is written as one long sentence.
This is called a syntactical structure, this is used because, when reading out loud, it requires the reader
to draw their attention to there own breath and attempt to space out the words to take breaths. The tone

Wilfred Owen s Anthem for Doomed Youth Analysis Essay
Wilfred Owen s Anthem for a Doomed Youth is exactly that, an anthem ( a solemn song) to
commemorate the innocent youth, whose lives were taken to soon by war. By using the word anthem,
he calls to mind the glory and honor of a national anthem, however; he goes on to explain that there is
no honor or glory in death, pairing the words doomed and youth together creates so much sorrow as
well, it provides a woeful impression as it foretells of young people having no hope. Written in sonnet
form, it is an elegy for the dead. The octave deals with auditory images of war and death and the sestet
deals with more visual images. Wilfred Owen masterfully uses both imagery and figurative language
to convey his lament for these young people who died. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Owen gives the sonnet a powerful, negative connotation from the very beginning. He implies with this
phrase a dehumanization of the soldiers as well as the fact that war causes human beings to treat each
other as less than human. In line three, the reader can hear the sound imagery of the stuttering rifles
rapid rattle . The word anger in line 2 also emphasizes the destructive hatred of war. Choirs of wailing
shells is a powerful metaphor in line 7 contrasting the world of war and the world of God.
For the rest of the poem various religious images abound. For example, the word candles would call to
mind the church candles, but they also mean the candles lit in rooms where coffins lie. Holy glimmers
of goodbyes (line 9) combines religious imagery with the idea of death. In the pallor half rhyme of
line 11, these two words combine in one line to show the seriousness of the situation. Young people
are dying in war, and it is tragic. The flowers of line 11 are also a double edged sword. Flowers are
given on very happy, momentous occasions, but they are also in abundance at solemn occasions like
funerals. Furthermore, Owen compares the events of war to traditional burial rituals and describes
how those who die in war do not receive proper funerals. In the first stanza, Owen references the
monstrous anger of guns to passing bells and rifles rapid rattle to hasty orisons . Usually

Queen Elizabeth In The Renaissance Era
Throughout the Renaissance Era there have been stories of kings, knights and heroic heroes, but
hardly ever does one hear about a Queen making history. Queen Elizabeth I, was a queen who one
does not really talk about or know any stories of her, but there is so much to know about her. Queen
Elizabeth s life growing up, accomplishments as queen, and her later years are something everyone
should know about its history. Queen Elizabeth s life growing up had some difficult circumstances,
but this had no effect over her ruling. She was able to maintain peace in a country, which was divided
previously.
Queen Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1533 ( Queen Elizabeth I 1). King Henry VIII was her
father and Anne Boleyn was her mother, wich was her father s second wife (3). At the age of only two
years old, her mother was killed by her father over accusations of committing adultery and conspiracy
(3). King Henry VIII died in 1547, Elizabeth was taken into care by her stepmother Catherine Parr (3).
Tension between Elizabeth and her stepfather, Thomas Seymour started to occur, Elizabeth returned to
Hatfield, the royal estate, away from the court (3). The relationship between the two never subsided
and Elizabeth had him executed for conspiring to marry her to gain power (3). Elizabeth had an older
half sister, Mary Tudor and a half brother Edward Tudor (3). Edward was King Henry s only son with
his third wife, Jane Seymour, Edward was set upon the throne, after his father s death,

Schizophrenic Research Paper
Did you know one percent of our population is schizophrenic? Schizophrenia is a chronic and
disabling psychiatric disorder that commonly presents during late adolescent and early adulthood
(Javitt, Daniel C). Schizophrenia is illustrated by an incapacity to differentiate what is real from what
is not. The way they live can affect their brain functions causing relationships to end because of the
symptoms schizophrenia produce in them, but there are treatments and support that can help with the
symptoms.
It is known that many things contribute to the cause of schizophrenia it is not just one thing.
Environmental factors and genetics can put you at risk of developing schizophrenia. It has been said
that malnutrition and complications during pregnancy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People may be afraid of schizophrenics because of their hallucinations or irrational behavior
consequently leaving them in isolation. As unbelievable as it might sound being with a person who is
schizophrenic might be possible, as long as people show that they really love them and become more
informed of the effect and treatments. There are a lot of ways a relationship can work, but both people
have to put the effort. Like they say where there is a will there is a

Pet Food Recall Of Pet Pets
I remember the first night the news announced the pet food recall. I jumped up and got online quickly
to make sure the food I feed my pets was not on the list. Thank goodness it wasn t. But that doesn t
mean that I don t still worry about it. I m still feeding them the same food, but I am watching my pets
very closely for any abnormal behavior at all. I m sure many pet owners are doing the same. But I did
decide I could do one thing for my dogs and that is to make them some dog biscuits myself. That way,
I know what is going into the ingredients and if anything is tainted, it will make me sick, too. Most of
the ingredients for these homemade dog biscuits are items already in my kitchen. A few years ago, my
sister had given me a dog biscuit set. I ve used it a couple of times, then put it up and forgot about it.
Now, I ve pulled it out again. The company s name is You Bake Em Dog Biscuits with P.C. Edge s
World Famous Recipes . It came with three cookie cutters: a fire hydrant, a bone and of course a cat. It
also included a mini book with tips on caring for your dog and several recipes. Making them is simple
and quick, so I thought I d share a few of the recipes. Dog Treat Special (10 bark rating) 1 lb. raw beef
liver, sliced 3 cups water 1 cup self rising cornmeal mix or rice flour 1/4 cup quick cooking oatmeal
1/2 cup whole wheat flour 1/2 cup all purpose flour 1 tsp. garlic powder 1 tbsp. brown sugar 2 tbsp.

  • 2. Pt1420 Unit 2 Assignment 1 Starting off: Each Player is dealt 7 cards. Before the first hand is dealt, players must shuffle the deck, and choose a random card from the deck. The lowest card chose has to deal. After this, the dealer must deal 7 cards to each player in a clockwise rotation and flip one card face up on the table. A player can have up to 7 cards in their hand at a time. The whole point of the game is to neighbor the card that is currently placed on the table. Scoring will be explained later so I don t confuse you off the start, but I will explain point scenarios and how you should lay it down. It is kind of like the card game Speed or any other card games that involve straights and the same suits to double points. For instance, if I have an A ♥ face up on the table; my turn, and I have 7 cards in my hand: 7â™ , J♥, A♦, Kâ™ , 2♥, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would lay down the K♥ behind the A♥ and the 2♥ on top of the A♥ to earn 4 points. In this game, a player is offered with the around the world effect that you see in Rummy and other games out there. A player would earn 2 points for both cards placed and when both cards are suited players earn double the value, so, in this case, 4 points will be earned. Once their turn is done, a player must choose the King ♥ or the 2 ♥ for the next player to play off of. If the player(s) can t play off of it, he/she can play off of it. If he/she can t play off the card, and no one else can; then, the top card of the deck must be flipped for other players to play off of it. Covariance is a measure of the degree to which returns on two risky assets move in tandem. A positive covariance means that asset returns move together. A negative covariance means returns move inversely. Covariance is closely related to correlation, wherein the difference between the two is that the latter factors in the standard deviation. Modern portfolio theory says that portfolio variance can be reduced by choosing asset classes with a low or negative covariance, such as stocks and bonds. Just as in the play, Macbeth and Banquo come upon the three witches, but the setting is dark and eery and takes place in what seems to be a warehouse. The gradient across the membrane represents potential energy because the gradient plays a major role of triggering whether diffusion is needed or not, and diffusion is after all, fueled by energy. For example, if there is an imbalance in the cell and the cell environment, then the concentration gradient has the potential to trigger diffusion (energy change because of moving molecules) to occur and create an equilibrium state. 7. Four ways that large molecules and substances are transported across a membrane include phagocytosis, pinocytosis, receptor mediated endocytosis and receptor proteins. During phagocytosis, the cell engulfs a particle by wrapping pseudopodia around the particle and packing the particle within the food vacuole (membranous sac). Once the food vacuole integrates with a lysosome (w/ hydrolytic enzyme), the particle will be digested. The second way is pinocytosis, in which the cell takes in droplets of extracellular fluid and packs it into tiny vesicles; after this, the tiny vesicles are then transported into the cell because the molecules dissolved in the droplets are the main factors that the cells need. The third process is known as receptor mediated endocytosis which the cells takes in large quantities of specific substances of all concentration in the Extracellular (EC) fluid; the membranes of the cell vesicle are embedded with proteins that has certain receptor sites that are exposed to the EC fluid in which ligand binds to. Then, the last step is that the receptor proteins cluster in regions of the membrane known as coated pits which contain fuzzy layer of coat proteins on the exterior; then, each coated pit forms a vesicle which contains the ligand molecules and after the ingested material is released from the vesicle, the vesicles then recycle the receptors to the plasma ... Following the collapse of international order under World War I, the League attempted to use the power of a number of states to counteract aggression. Jones and Sherman indicated the common belief that the more the nations, worked together to address humanitarian, social and economic issues, the more likely they were to establish mutual interests. thus a strong deterrent against future conflict. (Jones and Sherman, 1927, p.140) War was to be prevented by encouraging disarmament and defusing conflict between states through moral pressure and economic sanctions. Despite defusing minor conflicts and helping advance human rights; the League of Nations ultimately failed to achieve its key objective, to prevent the outbreak of war on the same scale as World War I. Alex Halberstadt s article called Zoo Animals and Their Discontent stated, The Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness in Human and Nonhuman Animals was signed by a group of leading animal researchers in the presences of Stephen Hawking. It asserted that mammals, birds, and other creatures like octopuses possess consciousness, and in all likelihood, emotions and self awareness. Anna Karenina, after falling from grace and her elevated social stratum, desperately searches for meaning in her life. She fears that she no longer provides Count Vronsky with any sort of pleasure and constantly seeks to improve herself in order to keep his attention and love focused on her. In a constant state of inadequacy, Anna cannot even sleep without a heavy dose of opium. Anna grows dependent upon the drug, and one night, She poured out her usual dose of opium and thought that she need only drink the whole phial in order to die, it seemed to her so easy and simple that she began thinking with pleasure of how he would suffer, repent, and love her memory when it was too late (Tolstoy 680). Tolstoy foreshadows Anna s demise in this passage. Anna feels that, were she to kill herself, she could finally solicit the attention and love she craves so adamantly. However, on further considering this avenue, All was darkness. Death! she thought. And such terror came upon her (Tolstoy 680). She quickly dismisses this thought, desiring to live her life fully. However, the seeds of something horrible are planted in her mind. Those seeds sprout as Anna continues to trudge through her lackluster life. Anna stumbles upon the train tracks, and, Suddenly remembering the man who had been run over the day she first met Vronsky, she realized what she had to do (Tolstoy 694). Anna ... A New World Order For The United States A New World Order The 20th century brought with it a plethora of technological advancements that acted as a catalyst for an important and lasting shift in the United State s perception of its role in the world. Technological advancement in travel and communication changed the American people s views of the world, therefore changing the direction of American foreign policy. This shift in foreign policy would eventually lead the United States into the grips of two horrific wars on the European continent. However, these wars would provide the necessary environment for the country to establish itself as the leader of the international system a title it would desperately need tin order to attempt to create a new, less conflict ridden global order. Though World War I set the stage for the United States to assume a global leadership role, which then set the stage for a second world war, it is not to say that the United States ever wanted anything to do with a European war in the first place. I argue that the U. S. failures to prevent World War I and World War II was due to a series of actions and events beginning at the turn of the century (a domino effect) that made it impossible to avoid joining either war once they began. Then, students will be able to understand the direction as well as the grounds of the U.S. foreign policy. To achieve this objective, I will discuss major the theoretical issues through the brief history of the U.S. foreign policy until the Cold War. After that, I will examine the challenges which the U.S. confronts. One of the theoretical issues in the U.S. foreign policy is the concept of isolationism and internationalism(or interventionism). To comprehend this concept, we need to figure out the history of the U.S. foreign policy briefly to find consistency in the flow of the policies. The Monroe Doctrine, which is famous for the declaration against European Imperialism (Monroe, 1823), was actually not the first argument of isolationism. As a matter of fact, isolationism began from George Washington s Farewell Address. (Washington, 1796) Meanwhile, President Woodrow Wilson tried to change the America s isolationism and to realize his liberalism via his Fourteen Points and the League of the Nations. (Wilson, 1918) However, his effort failed with the opposition of the parliament and the interest of World War I s victorious countries. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of young boys are stranded on an island where they try to maintain a civilization far away from society. The conch shell that Piggy and Ralph find is used to create a small democracy on the island. It is a symbol of the civilization on the island, the order that the boys have, and the power that a single person can possess. It represents how much of a connection they have to society, and the degree of civilization that still remains. The conch is an important part of their survival because without the conch, the boys can no longer live in harmony with one another and will eventually destroy each other. Without order and civilization, the island cannot be called a society. They can no longer hold themselves together, and have a higher chance of destruction. Over time, the boys begin to lose sight of civilization. When the conch is finally destroyed, the order between them is destroyed as well. The conch shell symbolizes the boys civilization, order, and power. At the beginning of the story, the conch is emphasized as a symbol of order, as that is the first idea that comes up when an assembly is established. It was still primarily an agricultural society that needed as many laborers as possible in order for the plantation owners to make ends meet. According to historian Douglas Harper, In 1793 came the cotton gin, which brought a 50 fold increase in the average daily output of short staple cotton, promoted the rapid expansion of a cotton kingdom across the Deep South, and made large scale slavery profitable. Because of this, the slave became an essential tool to the farmers of the south; more money became invested in slavery rather than in industrial improvements. Based upon the 1860 U.S. Census, there were almost a whopping total of four million slaves in the South alone. In fact, the more slaves an owner had, the more prestige. Most slave owners owned fewer than five slaves, and only 12 percent of Southerners had twenty or more slaves. Many whites who had no slaves looked with envy upon the wealthy, and to a degree admired them. This hierarchy had a clearly defined social structure which created distinctions between rich and poor whites as well as racial segregation. This agricultural society and its strict hierarchy only increased the social and racial disparities found in the southern region of the United States.
