Archetypes In The Avengers
In the movie The Avengers, the main characters Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black
Widow, and Hawkeye fit the hero s journey archetype through their adventure of saving Manhattan. In
the Departure stage, God of Mischief Loki comes to earth through a portal caused by the Tesseract and
Nick Fury, Phil Coulson, and other agents of S.H.I.E.L.D try to assemble a team to stop Loki. The
heroes chosen by Nick Fury, Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, and Thor, don t want to join together
to defeat Loki. The Avengers finally decide that the problem of Loki s plan to take over the world will
affect their lives and other people s lives, so they plan stop him. Some of the trials that the team
encounters include the Avengers receiving word that Loki is in Germany, when the team gets there,
Captain America and Iron Man face Loki on and capture him, but on the way back, they meet Thor
(who, as of it, don t know who they are and wants to take Loki back to Asgard for his crimes) and
have to battle him.

Analysis Of Spotlight
The movie Spotlight is a film based on actual events that tell how a special investigative group
uncover a scandal involving the Catholic Church. The story is set in Boston, Massachusetts in 2001.
The story began with a new editor, Marty Baron, joining the team of the Boston Globe. The story
unfolds in a gripping tale of how this group of reporters are able to overcome many obstacles and tell
a story that most likely saved many children from being abused. Marty Baron is the editor that joins
the team and it is clear from the beginning that he is thought to be boring and an outsider to the city of
Boston. They make a references to him being Jewish to infer that he does not understand their religion
or the extent of the importance of Catholicism within their community. Marty shows us over the
course of the movie that he is looking at the bigger picture using the Larger Truth approach. When he
and the Spotlight team discuss the widespread issue of the priests and how the church was paying off
the victim s family, he tells the team that they need to focus first on the institution not priests . This is
also somewhat of a populist approach. He was much more concerned about how the church was not
dealing with the issue and how it was affecting the entire city. Marty wanted to ... Show more content

Sacha had many of the different styles that she utilized while working on this story. She was
investigative, pouring over all the old clips to get facts and building up the story before she went and
started interviewing people. She had the attached approach really interested in the feelings of her
sources. She was using the Village approach when she was very interested in the words that were used
to describe the abuse because she is also a storyteller. She wanted to make sure the story was told
right. She wrote the second part to the story in the Boston Globe and it very much reads like a novel,

From Liberation To Conquest Chapter 1 Summary
Since its creation, the causes of the rise of the US empire has created controversy among historians.
This raised questions such as: what role did race play in the creation of the American empire. Nell
Irvin Painter, Walter L. Williams, Paul A. Kramer, and Bonnie M. Miller are historians that identify
race as a crucial element in the U.S. empire building. They choose to focus on different aspects and
perspectives, and how racial ideas were involved in the Philippines during the Spanish American War.
By exploring this specific aspect, the four historians sought out to answer the questions that previous
historians could not.
In chapter 5 of her 1987 novel Standing At Armageddon , Painter reflected on the Spanish American
War, its aftermath, and the imperialism in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Miller explores the basis of the overwhelming support for imperialism in the Caribbeans and Pacific,
showing how the nation s leading media makers editorialists, cartoonists, filmmakers, photographers,
and stage performers captured the public s interest in the Cuban crisis with heart rending depictions of
Cuban civilians, particularly women, brutalized by bloodthirsty Spanish pirates. She asserts that As
instruments of persuasion, images communicate differently than words do, reach broader audiences,
and may or may not be overly political. Similar to Painter, Kramer, and Williams, Miller alludes to
and comments about The White Man s Burden . She proclaims that Americans leading cartoonists
constituted a white Anglo Saxon male figure of the empire and subordinated his counterparts through
visual gradations of age, gender, and color. Through the use of images and cartoons, Miller examines
the shifting media portrayals of U.S. actions for the duration of the conflict, from liberation to
conquest. She reveals how the media capitalized on the public s thirst for drama, action, and spectacle
and adapted to emerging imperial

know how in sales and as you realize in your later years that you encounter those clients who really
don t plan on purchasing anything from you they are just interacting with you maybe because they
want to have a relationship, pick your brain or they just want to feel important like they re really going

they wanted to send a message or as crazy as it sounds it was their job to be there as they were a part

Belfast And Belfast Visitor Guide
According to uniquely Northern Ireland (2008), and Belfast visitor guide (2011), Belfast is the capital
and the largest city of the Northern Ireland. The climate is mild as a result of Atlantic Ocean breezes
and the Gulf Stream, with comfortable summers and temperate winters, snow is uncommon, and
however rainfall is heavy. Belfast has warmth and hospitality quite unlike anywhere else. Belfast is
situated at the mouth of the River Lagan on the borders of County Antrim and down in the province of
Ulster the city could be divided into quarters which each of them have a story to narrate to the visitors

The Influence Of Technology
Why does technology have a big impact on the world? Technology has grown for years since the first
computer was created and many have been using technology for school, work, interviews. It has made
life more easy and effective way to get stuff done faster because technology impacted many people
over the world and it has benefited us greatly. It s a wonderful way to stay connected to the world and
never miss out on events and important new broadcast.
It has advanced more further than anyone has imagined because the more we discover more things
about modern technology an apply with the knowledge that we already know and come up with a
sequence to make it correspond with other types of function. This can help the community use the
device in an easy format to benefit workers, school students, instructors. Many say that technology
will never stop evolving because each new generation has a different mindset and how they look at
thing. To improve you must have a fresh mind and think outside the box to form something new. I
would say that technology has put life in a unique perspective because it s made things easier for the
new generation because back then they didn t have the resources that we have now. To better ourselves
we must adapted to new and growing generation so that we can teach them how thing work and pass it
down towards the next.
The technology field has a lot of different forms because each has a different process on how each

Krispy Kreme Case Study
KRISPY KREME DOUGHNUTS IN 2005
ARE THE GLORY DAYS OVER?
CORPORATE BACKGROUND
Company History
First getting its corporate bearings on July 13, 1937 in Winston Salem, North Carolina, Krispy Kreme
Doughnuts have seen the many stages of financial gain and loss. Through the 1930 s and 1940 s the
company saw regional growth and by the late 1950 s Krispy Kreme had opened 29 shops in 12 states.
1960 marked an era where management Vernon Rudolph and Mike Harding began to emphasize
corporate standardization through its brand image. All Krispy Kreme shops were made with a green
roof, a red glazed brick exterior, a viewing window inside, an overhead conveyer for doughnut
production, and bar stools. Original owner Vernon Rudolph in 1973, so ... Show more content on

In 2003, 18 employees attended the Krispy Kreme Leadership Institute to increase their capacities in
senior management areas. In 2003, the company acquired Montana Mills Bread Company for 1.2
million shares of Krispy Kreme stock (worth roughly $50 million). In 2004, Krispy Kreme
management expressed confidence in their company s potential. However, the management failed to
foresee the future.
The Yeast Fails to Rise (Weaknesses)
The second half of 2004 failed to meet the managements expectations made earlier in the year. The
company estimated diluted earnings per share of $1.16 for fiscal 2005; actual diluted earnings were
$0.93. The company expected sales would increase 25% in fiscal 2005; actual systemwide sales
increased 14.8%. The company divested the recently acquired Montana Mills operation. It also closed
six underperforming factory stores. In the hours following the announcement of the financial loss, the
company s stock dropped 20%. On May 25, 2004, Krispy Kreme reported a $24.4 million loss for the
first quarter of fiscal 2005. According to the company, the poor performance was because of trendy
low carb diets, and a $34 million write off of its investment in Montana Mills. The stock was now
down 37%. To make matters worse, the company announced that the SEC was investigated shady
accounting practices due to franchise buybacks.

Argumentative Essay On Buy Nothing Day
The rise of industrialization and manufacturing that began in the eighteenth century has drastically
changed the lifestyles of the world. No longer do citizens find, make, or trade for everything they need
at home and in their local communities, but instead they rely on national and global commerce to
provide for them. This shift in production is the basis for the annual Buy Nothing Day, which attempts
to reverse the ill effects of gross consumerism and spread awareness of the issues in our current
lifestyles. While many critics would point to the fact that one day will provide little to no discernable
impact on the problems faced, Buy Nothing Day will produce greater effects through the awareness it
provides than any actual deeds committed on that singular day. Widespread consumerism and the
materialistic society we live in has many detrimental effects on the environment. The factories,
vehicles, and resources used to sustain our goods based economy contribute greatly to global climate
change, pollution, and deforestation. Your coffee beans from Starbucks are harvested from dying out
forests in South America, among other places, and shipped to the location nearest you by using
excessive quantities of non renewable fossil fuels, all so you can receive your morning pick me up.
While refraining from purchasing that coffee on Buy Nothing Day alone will not provide an
immediate solution to the issue at hand, the ideals preached by the yearly event can make the

Amistad Field Trip
To be honest, I really did not want to go to see the Amistad, even though I had completed all written
requirements because I believed the boat was small and cramped. Jackie, who was the instructor of the
Amistad, who spoke at Options, gave us background history about the boat. It was from this
background history that I interpreted the boat was small and cramped. Even though I had not seen the
boat in person, I believed it was tiny and restricted.
My teachers at Options and my parents tried to convince me to go on the Amistad field trip. Elin
offered me information about who was going on the trip, the food that was being ordered, and staff
that were going. The Options staff that were traveling to see the ship were my teachers. My parents

What Is Symbolism In Temptation Of Saint Hilarion
The feeling of temptation is an emotion most people have felt in their lives. Temptation has been
illustrated in Christian religion since the beginning with Adam and Eve. Portraying the emotion of
temptation has varied from artist to artist, in all; the viewer will continuously understand the
awareness of the feeling. The oil painting Temptation of Saint Hilarion by Octave Tassaert was painted
around 18571. When examining this art for the first time, the viewer is thrown into a world of dark
colors and emotion. As our eyes grow accustomed to the image, we start to understand the message
behind the madness of temptation. In the next few paragraphs, we shall analyze Tassaert s work by

Value Of Shame In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter
Carissa Larriuz
Mrs. Gordon
English 11
29 April 2018
The Value of Shame In modern culture, it is often used as a great threat and punishment to be publicly
shamed, multiple judges of the court even sentence this as a punishment. When the term is used
loosely, it appears an inappropriate alternative to jail time, yet when speculated closely, public shame
is in some ways worse than being put away in a cell. This can be argued due to the behavior spectators
display with involvement in the situation firsthand. I believe that although in some cases public shame
could be excessive and not fit the crime correctly, that public shaming is an effective and influential
form of punishment for certain crimes.
Primitively, According to the 8th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concept has existed almost as long as humans themselves, right from the beginning of creation in
the story of The Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were tempted into committing the first crime known
to man and once committed they were punished publicly by being unclothed. This nakedness and
sense of vulnerability was a form of public shame because their entity was exposed and they were
provided this punishment as a reflection of self assessment. This similar idea is conveyed in Nathaniel
Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter. In the most basic sense, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale and
Hester Prynne represent the primary characters in the biblical story of the Garden of Eden, Adam and
Eve. The first scaffold scene, where Hester stands alone with her baby in her arms, in terms of
similarities between the story and the biblical one of Adam and Eve, plays on the biblical fact that Eve
is said to have eaten the fruit first and then convinced Adam to eat it afterward. The community s
belief that women are, by nature, sinful, is backed up by the interpretation of the biblical story and
therefore shown in their acts of ridicule to Hester alone. Overall, the use of public humiliation as a
way of instilling social discipline in in many ways highly effective when used suitably. It may lack
effectiveness if the offender in question

Teenage Drinking Essay
Teenage Drinking
According to Lang nine out of ten high school seniors have used alcohol, one out of twenty use it
daily, and one out of three will get drunk during any given weekend (back cover). Teenage drinking is
a very serious problem that is growing by the day in our country. I want to know what kids who drink
are getting themselves in to when they decide to start in high school or junior high. What types of
health and psychological problems will they be facing? What are the chances that they will become
addicted to alcohol, or to some other drug, for life? My father is an alcoholic and has been so for most,

Drugs centers on alcohol as a first step in the addiction process for most children who become

information they gave. I started out my search at the local library, looked through some books about
alcohol, and found several ranging from its uses and abuses to teenage drinking. I did not bother
looking in the encyclopedia because I figured that the people who wrote these books had already done
it for me. The first book I looked through was by Alan R. Lang (February 29, 2000); I skimmed
through the table of contents of the book and saw that it had a section devoted to the short term as well
as the long term effects of alcohol. So, in order to get a better understanding of this issue I turned to
the specified page and found that the effect of alcohol is directly related to ones BAC, or blood
alcohol concentration (Lang 39). This is what makes different kinds of people engage in a wide array
of behaviors, such as when two people drink the same amount of alcohol but the person who has more
body mass does not feel the effects of the alcohol. The other person, who has less body mass will get
drunk faster and is said to have less of a tolerance for alcohol .
In Volger s Teenagers and Alcohol, I found an excellent table outlining the

What Makes An Effective Leader
Leadership A leader is somebody who stands for his cause as well as assumes liability and propels
different people moreover. There is an unmistakable contrast between being a supervisor and a leader.
A leader is an inspiration for others and rouses people to point high and accomplish that point.
However a manager just regulates over his subordinates. Control actually goes to a pioneer, yet that
power is not a device of leader. Or maybe on the off chance that one tries to control the conditions
with power it ends up being dictator. Authority is not a quality but rather it is an individual s conduct.

A pioneer is somebody that many individuals look to for bearing, direction, and motivation, so it is
critical for our pioneers to have the bent to settle on troublesome choices and to know and make the
wisest decision for the general population. A higher power is pivotal for overseeing and controlling
others and also being a case of a hard and devoted specialist. A viable pioneer has character,
capability, sympathy, and valor. Character is, as talked about in class, conceivably the most critical
normal for a pioneer. A man s actual character is the kind of people they are the point at which they
are placed in a troublesome circumstance. It is the choices and the ethical quality of a pioneer that
gives them the respectable character that others hope to take after. It is fundamental for a pioneer to
have character on the grounds that a pioneer needs the capacity to see what other can t, the penances

Is Macbeth Relevant Today
Society defines a hero as a valiant figure whom many admire due to their relatable, yet seemingly just
actions. William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Macbeth, tells the story of Macbeth, a lord who
showed his bravery in battle and whom many look up to as a role model. However, it is through his
ambition and need for power that his morals are put into question, and result in his downfall. Although
tragic, Macbeths rise and fall is similar to many influential people of modern society. One notable
example is actor and comedian Bill Cosby. A man many grew up with, and felt was not only a father

Attention Deficit Disorder ( Adhd )
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD) continues to be a complex and widespread problem that is
occurring in children at an unprecedented rate. According to DSM V, a child must present symptoms
before the age of twelve and display the symptoms for at least six months. There are two types of
ADHD disorders; inattentive type and hyperactive impulsive. A child could also have a combination
of the two. Some of the most common symptoms for inattention include lack of attention, difficulty
sustaining attention, difficulty following instructions, easily distracted and forgetfulness. Common
symptoms for hyperactive impulsive include fidgeting, excessive talking, being on the go very often
and interrupting others (Mash Wolfe, 2008). Both types of ADHD may affect a child s social, personal

Ecological Economics Vs. Welfare Economics Essay
Ecological Economics vs Neoclassicial Welfare Economics
In the past, economic school of thought regarded the resources as unlimited and focused on more
production under the light of the unlimited growth assumption. Every economic action was suggested
to only consider about making more profit. While the economy and the human population are
growing; more natural resources are used and more pollution is observed. Human become to deal with
the results of its production such as enviromental problems and resource scarcity. A debate has
emerged in economics and the mainstream economics is brought into question since its unlimited
growth assumption is collapsed. Ecological economists argues the neoclassical welfare economics for
ignoring the enviromental and ethic values by only focusing on the cost benefit analysis. It also claims
that the neoclassical economics fails to calculate the value of the enviromental capital and the loss of
the economic activities on the environment. This paper is going to explain the problems with the
neoclassical welfare economics and the alternatives offered by the ecological economics in terms of
economic growth and environment.
The neoclassical welfare economics explains the economic production and behaviour by using the
mainstream terms of economic literature. Specifically, it focuses on the Pareto efficieny and suggests
two theorems related to it. Firstly, the Pareto efficieny is stated by maximisation of preferences under
a restricted budget and

Why Roller Derby Should Be An Olympic Sport
In 2024, or as soon as 2020, roller derby should be an Olympic sport. I find that roller derby is just as
entertaining and interesting as the sports currently in the Olympics such as canoe sprint, cycling, golf,
rowing, sailing, and table tennis. Those examples are from the Summer Olympics. The Winter
Olympic sports include curling, luge and skeleton.
Roller derby is a rapidly growing sport. At this moment, there are 469 female roller derby teams in the
world. To make a team you need at least 12 people. Taking these numbers into consideration, if you
multiply 469 by 12, you would have a minimum of 5,628 people playing roller derby around the
world. This figure does not even include men s roller derby leagues or junior leagues. Junior derby is
generally split into age groups of 5 12 years old and 12 17 years old. ... Show more content on

Derby is a sport that has many things happening at once. On the track, players must trust their team,

By 1994 a significant year in the company s history Greggs consisted of more than 500 stores
operating in seven regional divisions. The stature of the company at this point was about to increase
substantially, providing a fitting tribute to the company s tenth year as a publicly traded concern. In
mid 1994, Greggs acquired the retail baking interests belonging to Allied Bakeries Limited. The
transaction nearly doubled the size of the company, adding 424 shops and a new brand to the company
s portfolio, Bakers Oven.
The acquisition of Allied Bakeries added a new dimension to Greggs business strategy, one that
contrasted and complemented the company s operations. Unlike the shops operating under the Greggs
banner, the Bakers Oven shops featured in store bakeries. Rather than assimilate the acquired units
into the company s network of large central bakeries that served a cluster of retail shops, Darrington
and his management team decided to develop Bakers Oven as a separate brand, a decision that opened
new markets for the company s expansion. Through Bakers Oven shops and their in store bakeries, the
company was able to establish a presence in markets with lower population densities than the Greggs
units demanded. For the Greggs model of a central bakery serving satellite shops to make financial

industrial robots. This is mainly because of industrial plants. We think of them as taking over our jobs.

Visual Aspects of Mythology During The Greco-Roman Era...
Visual Aspects of Mythology During The Greco Roman Era Ancient Greece was a culture that took
great pride in flawlessness, superiority and on the whole greatness. The Greeks basically molded the
imaginative world with their cleverness in art, architecture, and astronomy for many cultures to come.
Even though so much of the Greeks culture has been shattered, much of it still remains within society
today. The Greeks were a culture that strived for excellence, and harmony. So many aspects of
contemporary day life have been in some way, influenced by the Greeks. They were fascinated with
the human form, which is revealed in most of their artwork. Perhaps the most common Greco roman
era can be seen from the Hellenistic period. Art still served a religious function or to glorify athletes,
but sculpture and painting were also used to decorate the homes of the rich. There was an interest in
heroic portraits and in colossal groups, but also in humbler subjects. The human being was portrayed
in every stage and walk of life. There was even interest in caricature. Landscapes and interiors
appeared for the first time in both relief s and painted panels. The great Altar of Zeus from Pergamum,
created by Greek artists for King Eumenes 2, was enclosed by a high podium documented with a
monumental frieze of the battle between the gods and the giants. Many Hellenistic tendencies were
realized in this work. The baroque style of the sculpture was characteristic of the time in its

Essay On Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Pediatric
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) happens when acid from the stomach flows up into the tube
that connects the mouth and stomach (esophagus). When acid comes in contact with the esophagus,
the acid causes soreness (inflammation) in the esophagus. Over time, GERD may create small holes
(ulcers) in the lining of the esophagus.
Some babies have a condition called gastroesophageal reflux. This is different than GERD. This
causes your baby to spit up breast milk, formula, or food shortly after a feeding. Reflux is common in
babies younger than 2 years and usually gets better with age. Most babies stop having reflux by age 12
14 months. Vomiting and poor feeding that lasts longer than 12 14 months may be symptoms of

The Porter s Five Forces
The Porter s five forces is a competitive position analysis and business strategy format created by
Michael Porter in 1979. The premise behind the format is to provide them with five forces that shape
every industry. Mr. Porter s theory is that if a company analyzed the information received from
reviewing the five forces, the company would be able to compete in a higher fashion against its
competitions. Following the five forces would allow a firm to determine the type of market or industry
it is operating in. Each of the five works as an individual factor in the microenvironment, but one
force could not exist without the out force in a stable economy. The five forces are Supplier Power,
Buyer Power, Threat of substitutes, the threat of new entrant and Competitive Rivalry. Three forces
affected the market horizontally while two affected, it vertically from each side. A review of the movie

force receives pressure from all of the remaining forces. The pressure from those forces defines the
way a competitor will be able to compete inside of an industry. A highly competitive market may
prohibit additional competitors from entering the marketplace. Lower competitors are willing to lower
prices cause a price war and maintain a low price that would slash or narrow a perspective competitor
from entering the marketplace. Current industry leaders are already having market share

I Really Enjoyed This Podcast By Rogier Van Der Heide
I really enjoyed this podcast by Rogier van der Heide. I am forever wandering around my house
turning lights off and it s not just a money/planet saving action. Darkness is wonderful and important,
it is the reason I put dimmers on almost every light switch on the plans for our new home.
Without darkness, the concept of light doesn t exist or at best without the contrast of darkness, light is
not recognisable. The beauty of light could not be seen. Furthermore, the beauty and peace that comes
from darkness wouldn t be so if it weren t for the contrast of light. I have also just watched the TED
talk about introversion, identifying that the yings and the yangs are both required to have a complete
experience.
Heide speaks holistically of light quality. Light quality is not just about the bland, measurable
approach we take ensuring we meet the imposed standards required for lighting particular spaces. I am
left wondering why it is that we choose to power up a building with artificial light rather than use the
light from the sun where possible. There are so many ways in which we can do this, why are we so
reluctant? Is it easier to just thoughtlessly do what was once probably considered amazing and
innovative? The more I think about it the more I would consider grid like lighting design senseless,
unhealthy and unimaginative! Also, the sunlight is free, if that s not good enough reason to utilise it
then I don t know what is!
Furthermore, are we actually doing our eye

Legal Funding Disadvantages
Nowadays, hiring a lawyer in UK and Wales can be quite expensive. A trainee solicitor in Great
Britain hourly rate can start from a hundred and eleven pounds per hour and ranges from this to a first

not everyone can afford the price of justice. Legal funding is vital as this can give a chance to people
that are of lesser means, to review their case. There are various types of legal funding that I will

types of funding is used. Are they really used wisely and fairly based on their scope? I am going to

is referred to as an anti history book. Both authors make significant points and it s great to have both
sources available for comparison as well as chance to see both sides of the story.
Both authors start their novels with the finding of America. At the beginning it can already be noted

  • 3. Analysis Of Spotlight The movie Spotlight is a film based on actual events that tell how a special investigative group uncover a scandal involving the Catholic Church. The story is set in Boston, Massachusetts in 2001. The story began with a new editor, Marty Baron, joining the team of the Boston Globe. The story unfolds in a gripping tale of how this group of reporters are able to overcome many obstacles and tell a story that most likely saved many children from being abused. Marty Baron is the editor that joins the team and it is clear from the beginning that he is thought to be boring and an outsider to the city of Boston. They make a references to him being Jewish to infer that he does not understand their religion or the extent of the importance of Catholicism within their community. Marty shows us over the course of the movie that he is looking at the bigger picture using the Larger Truth approach. When he and the Spotlight team discuss the widespread issue of the priests and how the church was paying off the victim s family, he tells the team that they need to focus first on the institution not priests . This is also somewhat of a populist approach. He was much more concerned about how the church was not dealing with the issue and how it was affecting the entire city. Marty wanted to ... • 4. From Liberation To Conquest Chapter 1 Summary Since its creation, the causes of the rise of the US empire has created controversy among historians. This raised questions such as: what role did race play in the creation of the American empire. Nell Irvin Painter, Walter L. Williams, Paul A. Kramer, and Bonnie M. Miller are historians that identify race as a crucial element in the U.S. empire building. They choose to focus on different aspects and perspectives, and how racial ideas were involved in the Philippines during the Spanish American War. By exploring this specific aspect, the four historians sought out to answer the questions that previous historians could not. In chapter 5 of her 1987 novel Standing At Armageddon , Painter reflected on the Spanish American War, its aftermath, and the imperialism in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Miller explores the basis of the overwhelming support for imperialism in the Caribbeans and Pacific, showing how the nation s leading media makers editorialists, cartoonists, filmmakers, photographers, and stage performers captured the public s interest in the Cuban crisis with heart rending depictions of Cuban civilians, particularly women, brutalized by bloodthirsty Spanish pirates. She asserts that As instruments of persuasion, images communicate differently than words do, reach broader audiences, and may or may not be overly political. Similar to Painter, Kramer, and Williams, Miller alludes to and comments about The White Man s Burden . She proclaims that Americans leading cartoonists constituted a white Anglo Saxon male figure of the empire and subordinated his counterparts through visual gradations of age, gender, and color. Through the use of images and cartoons, Miller examines the shifting media portrayals of U.S. actions for the duration of the conflict, from liberation to conquest. She reveals how the media capitalized on the public s thirst for drama, action, and spectacle and adapted to emerging imperial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Argumentative Essay On Buy Nothing Day The rise of industrialization and manufacturing that began in the eighteenth century has drastically changed the lifestyles of the world. No longer do citizens find, make, or trade for everything they need at home and in their local communities, but instead they rely on national and global commerce to provide for them. This shift in production is the basis for the annual Buy Nothing Day, which attempts to reverse the ill effects of gross consumerism and spread awareness of the issues in our current lifestyles. While many critics would point to the fact that one day will provide little to no discernable impact on the problems faced, Buy Nothing Day will produce greater effects through the awareness it provides than any actual deeds committed on that singular day. Widespread consumerism and the materialistic society we live in has many detrimental effects on the environment. The factories, vehicles, and resources used to sustain our goods based economy contribute greatly to global climate change, pollution, and deforestation. Your coffee beans from Starbucks are harvested from dying out forests in South America, among other places, and shipped to the location nearest you by using excessive quantities of non renewable fossil fuels, all so you can receive your morning pick me up. Value Of Shame In Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter Carissa Larriuz Mrs. Gordon English 11 29 April 2018 The Value of Shame In modern culture, it is often used as a great threat and punishment to be publicly shamed, multiple judges of the court even sentence this as a punishment. When the term is used loosely, it appears an inappropriate alternative to jail time, yet when speculated closely, public shame is in some ways worse than being put away in a cell. This can be argued due to the behavior spectators display with involvement in the situation firsthand. I believe that although in some cases public shame could be excessive and not fit the crime correctly, that public shaming is an effective and influential form of punishment for certain crimes. Primitively, According to the 8th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This concept has existed almost as long as humans themselves, right from the beginning of creation in the story of The Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve were tempted into committing the first crime known to man and once committed they were punished publicly by being unclothed. This nakedness and sense of vulnerability was a form of public shame because their entity was exposed and they were provided this punishment as a reflection of self assessment. This similar idea is conveyed in Nathaniel Hawthorne s novel The Scarlet Letter. In the most basic sense, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale and Hester Prynne represent the primary characters in the biblical story of the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve. The first scaffold scene, where Hester stands alone with her baby in her arms, in terms of similarities between the story and the biblical one of Adam and Eve, plays on the biblical fact that Eve is said to have eaten the fruit first and then convinced Adam to eat it afterward. The community s belief that women are, by nature, sinful, is backed up by the interpretation of the biblical story and therefore shown in their acts of ridicule to Hester alone. By 1994 a significant year in the company s history Greggs consisted of more than 500 stores operating in seven regional divisions. The stature of the company at this point was about to increase substantially, providing a fitting tribute to the company s tenth year as a publicly traded concern. In mid 1994, Greggs acquired the retail baking interests belonging to Allied Bakeries Limited. The transaction nearly doubled the size of the company, adding 424 shops and a new brand to the company s portfolio, Bakers Oven. The acquisition of Allied Bakeries added a new dimension to Greggs business strategy, one that contrasted and complemented the company s operations. Unlike the shops operating under the Greggs banner, the Bakers Oven shops featured in store bakeries. Rather than assimilate the acquired units into the company s network of large central bakeries that served a cluster of retail shops, Darrington and his management team decided to develop Bakers Oven as a separate brand, a decision that opened new markets for the company s expansion. Through Bakers Oven shops and their in store bakeries, the company was able to establish a presence in markets with lower population densities than the Greggs units demanded. The Greeks basically molded the imaginative world with their cleverness in art, architecture, and astronomy for many cultures to come. Even though so much of the Greeks culture has been shattered, much of it still remains within society today. The Greeks were a culture that strived for excellence, and harmony. So many aspects of contemporary day life have been in some way, influenced by the Greeks. They were fascinated with the human form, which is revealed in most of their artwork. Perhaps the most common Greco roman era can be seen from the Hellenistic period. Art still served a religious function or to glorify athletes, but sculpture and painting were also used to decorate the homes of the rich. There was an interest in heroic portraits and in colossal groups, but also in humbler subjects. The human being was portrayed in every stage and walk of life. There was even interest in caricature. Landscapes and interiors appeared for the first time in both relief s and painted panels. The great Altar of Zeus from Pergamum, created by Greek artists for King Eumenes 2, was enclosed by a high podium documented with a monumental frieze of the battle between the gods and the giants. I am forever wandering around my house turning lights off and it s not just a money/planet saving action. Darkness is wonderful and important, it is the reason I put dimmers on almost every light switch on the plans for our new home. Without darkness, the concept of light doesn t exist or at best without the contrast of darkness, light is not recognisable. The beauty of light could not be seen. Furthermore, the beauty and peace that comes from darkness wouldn t be so if it weren t for the contrast of light. I have also just watched the TED talk about introversion, identifying that the yings and the yangs are both required to have a complete experience. Heide speaks holistically of light quality. Light quality is not just about the bland, measurable approach we take ensuring we meet the imposed standards required for lighting particular spaces. I am left wondering why it is that we choose to power up a building with artificial light rather than use the light from the sun where possible. There are so many ways in which we can do this, why are we so reluctant? Is it easier to just thoughtlessly do what was once probably considered amazing and innovative? The more I think about it the more I would consider grid like lighting design senseless, unhealthy and unimaginative! Also, the sunlight is free, if that s not good enough reason to utilise it then I don t know what is! Furthermore, are we actually doing our eye ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Johnson comes from a conservative background with an Oxford degree while Zinn, was more of an activist from a Jewish immigrant background. Johnson has pride in America and almost always sugarcoats major events to keep his country looking great, much like what we learn in our current high schools. However, Zinn shows us the left out facts of our American history and his novel is referred to as an anti history book. Both authors make significant points and it s great to have both sources available for comparison as well as chance to see both sides of the story. Both authors start their novels with the finding of America. At the beginning it can already be noted that the sides are completely different. Johnson starts his novel by stating that: The creation of the United States of America is the greatest of all human adventures. [pg. 3]. Right then and there, we discover that Johnson is very patriotic. Johnson then goes on to mention how even though Columbus was mainly in search for gold, he was an idealist. Johnson describes him as a hero, failing to mention what had occurred to the natives and stating that they had been killed off by disease instead of going into detail.
