Coleman And Gouaux Serotonin Case Study
In this paper, Coleman and Gouaux investigate how to inhibit serotonin reuptake specifically in three
antidepressants: sertraline, fluvoxamine, and paroxetine. While it is known that an allosteric site on
the serotonin transporter can be blocked to prevent the reuptake of serotonin, the problem is little is
known about how exactly these ligands are able to bind and prevent the reuptake of serotonin.
Coleman and Gouaux attempt to answer this mystery by pushing sertraline, fluvoxamine, and
paroxetine to bind to the serotonin transporter and then by analyzing X ray structures of these
inhibitors bounded to the transporters.
Background:
Depression is a mental illness categorized by strong feelings of sadness and cognitive changes that can
alter a person s ability to function normally. While research is still being done on what exactly triggers
depression in the brain, a hypothesis on one of the physical causes of feeling depressed is a serotonin
imbalance in the brain. Serotonin is a monoamine neurotransmitter that produces the good feelings in
the brain. Two problems are present in people with depression: either the brain is not producing
enough serotonin or the serotonin transporters are retaking the serotonin too ... Show more content on

The Toulmin Model Of Argument
Stephen Toulmin, one of the most significant philosophers of our generation. Mr. Toulmin produced
widespread analyses from morals, science, and ethical reasoning and established a different method
for examining arguments, which is recognized as the Toulmin model of argumentation. Stephen
Toulmin model of argumentation was not realized in Great Britain, but when he got to America those
same ideas manifested to become the Toulmin model we know today. In the earlier stages of The
Toulmin model it was used in debate manuals. The Toulmin model analyzes the strength and
weaknesses of any argumentation. The Toulmin model has advanced into the rhetorical interpretation
of literary texts. This tool is used for developing, examining, and classifying arguments. There are six
parts of the model of argument from the claim, data, warrant, backing, modality, and rebuttal. The
claim is the position or claim, which is argued for the deduction of the argument. For example a claim
would be cars over 20 years old shouldn t be allowed on the road. The data are the foundation or basis
for the claim, the support. An example of data would be older vehicles pollute the environment and are
less safe than newer car models. The warrant is also mentioned as the bridge, it is a description of why
or how the data supports the claim, the underlying assumptions that links the data to the claim. An
example of warrant would be removing the older car models from the road, and would drastically
improve the

Thin, Light And Light
Thin. Light. Flexible.
So I assume many of you have heard of LED screens or panels, chances are you are probably reading
this on one of them. Or if you re one of those people who still use that stuff called paper then maybe
on that. Well whatever you are reading this on prepare to empty you re wallet s because this new
technology will surly brighten your day!
LED s or Light Emitting Diodes have been around since the 60 s and I think they are starting to
decline. The new technology slowly replacing LED s are OLED s or Organic Light Emitting Diodes.
Now these are special because they contain small quantities of organic material such as carbon. OLED
s feature many vase improvements over its older friend LED s, these include: flexibility, durability,
transparency and the list goes on! Although this all comes with an unfortunately large price tag.
While OLED s are a great technology nowadays they have not always been so advanced. The first
working OLED was created in 1987 by Ching W. Tang and Steven Van Slyke at Eastman Kodak.
Although this was the first technically working OLED, electroluminescence the principle OLED s use
was first reported in 1953 by A. Bernanose, M. Comte, and P. Vonaux, using a high voltage electrical
field. Electroluminescence is when a material emits light in response to the passage of an electric
current or to a strong electric field being applied through the substance (J. Chim p.50, 64.).
In the early days of production OLED s were very

The Issue Of Tort Reform
Tort reform is a term propagated by companies in the tobacco and asbestos industries vulnerable to
legal actions seeking damages for the impacts to their products. Advocates use the terminology to
limit the ability and potential damages available to individuals who take legal actions against
companies. In 2002, the consumer advocacy organization Center for Justice and Democracy
investigated the U.S. tort reform and saw that the rally was actually a massive national PR effort
initiated by the tobacco industry to reduce or eliminate exposure to liability law suits. Concerned by
the increasing regularity in which some state attorneys general are hiring personal injury lawyers to
pursue lawsuits on behalf of their practicing states, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps one way to analyze the situation is through concepts of loss shifting and loss spreading. I
would anticipate such insurers directly or directly support tort reform aimed at limiting the quantum of
damages. On the other hand, I would be surprised if they supported substantial removal of the right to
sue in tort, because that is part of their business. (Journal of Patient Safety) Anyone with a valid claim
stands to receive compensation, but only up to a specified amount, which often leads to dissatisfaction
and complaint There are qualitative factors, of course, that add to the complexity of these scenarios. I
believe there are some interesting studies around no fault apology that might contribute to a reduction
in claims, for example. It would also be interesting to see what improvements collaborative law
processes might bring.
Both the loss shifting and the loss spreading scenarios are vulnerable to exploitation by players
motivated by greed or factors of self advancement. In an ideal world, a civil society could rationally
and effectively operate either or both loss shifting or loss spreading models in a sustainable way. This
seems unlikely to eventuate in current circumstances, unless there was a momentous shift in
consciousness. What seems more likely is that interested parties will struggle to improve their position
in the field through statutory

Screening For Alcohol And Drug Use For Prenatal Care
Since 1985 about 250 Women in 30 states have been criminally prosecuted in relation to drug abuse
while pregnant. (Coles, par 16) Since there isn t a law in place for a woman being convicted for
drinking or smoking while pregnant, they dig a little deeper and get more technical. Charges for
unlawful child neglect, delivering drugs to a minor, homicide by child abuse and even manslaughter
have been given to mothers who abuse drugs or alcohol while pregnant. Some even believe in
terminating the woman s parental rights. Whether or not the child shows signs before birth, they have
started to test newborns for drugs and prosecute from there. (NAPW, par 33 35)
Screening for alcohol and drug use in prenatal care is widely promoted in the United States as a public
health strategy for reducing alcohol and drug use during pregnancy. (Roberts, par 1) I think that they
re promoting drug and alcohol testing in prenatal care to help the mother get help, not punish her for
doing them. Reading through a few articles on prenatal testing, I realized that most women see it as
the doctor is going to turn over her information to the enforcements, which is not the case. In the fear
of getting in trouble, mothers will avoid prenatal care all together, which is a problem in itself. Trying
to find a happy medium where we can try to escape the statistics of children having side effects due to
drugs or alcohol, might have to start at the source the seller.

Canada and the United States of America
Necessary Allies in Matters of Defence:
A Canadian Policy Proposal
Defence cooperation is a significant component to the Canadian American relationship. Not only does
each country have to provide individual defence and provide defence for their neighbour, but both
Canada and the United States seek to defend North America as well. Being the two neighbouring
North American countries, it is essential that Canada and the United States work collaboratively to
ensure the safety of North America and its people. This allows for a trickle effect, whereby both
countries will assist one another in matters of security and national protection to ultimately assure the
protection of their continent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In terms of Canadian and United States defence relations, defence can be summed up as the response
to threats and attacks and other major emergencies in Canada and the United States
(www.canada.gc.ca), this also includes the prevention of any threats to either country. Defence is a
crucial commitment made by both countries because each country recognizes its individual need for
aid and also the continental need for aid. The September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center in
New York City have demanded stronger defence systems in the United States, stronger boarder
policies and the involvement of Canadian assistance. Similarly, the devastation of Hurricane Katrina
also saw the need for Canadian cooperation to minimize damage and to protect American citizens. The
American government, and people, have benefited from Canadian defence assistance in a number of
ways. First, Canada and the United States have the world s largest trade relationship between any two
countries and this alliance generates revenue where 85% of Canadian exports go to the U.S.A. The

Develop a well thought contingency plan
Companies almost always go through difficult times. And although those difficult times may appear
out of nowhere, most of the time, the warning signs are always there.
Therefore, it is imperative to learn to recognize the signs of problems.
By identifying potential problems before they arise, you can try to prevent them from occurring
completely.
Learn from your mistakes and build on your successes
Of course, just as you are likely to experience success in the things you do, it is also likely that you
will also make mistakes.
And when it comes to business, you will have the opportunity to improve in both scenarios.
Ask yourself what did you do wrong or what did you do well, why it worked or not, and what can be
done differently.
These questions will help you make educated and intelligent business decisions that will help your
business prosper.
Focus on your customers
Always be courteous, professional and provide a quality service or product, since it is much easier to
sell to a satisfied customer than to try to bribe a new potential customer.
This will leave your customers excited and will be willing to return.

Romantic Hero Longfellow
Romantic Hero Essay Henry Wadsworth Longfellow(1807 1882) defined, what is considered today,
the true Romantic hero. He associated the Romantic hero with unique characteristics. These
characteristics were not found in any other type of hero. In his poem A Psalm of Life , Longfellow
defined a Romantic hero is while the protagonist in his poem Excelsior gives an example of a
Romantic hero. According to Longfellow the Romantic hero must be a nonconformist, a man of
action, must act in the present, and above all contribute to society.
In order for a hero to be a Romantic hero, he must be an individual. One cannot follow the crowd and
be a Romantic hero. Longfellow urged readers to be not like dumb, driven cattle (psalm of life 5. 3)
and to Be a hero in the strife! (5. 4). Longfellow demonstrated this using Exelsior by making the

Washington Irving, author of Rip van winkle, illustrates the Romantic hero a little differently then
Longfellow. Although there are some differences, the overall impression the characters give is similar.
Washington Irving illustrated Rip, the protagonist in Rip van Winkle, as a very individualistic person,
who acted in the present and initially did not contribute to society. He did not inspire others to act in
the present, although he did end up achieving greatness and finding his place in society. Using Rip
Van Winkle, Irving demonstrated the qualities he believed a Romantic hero must possess.
The first qulity Irving associated with a Romantic hero was being an individual. Rip clearly did not
follow the social norm of men in the village. While all other men went to work, Rip, would sit on a
wet rock( Irving or assist a neighbor . He was willing to help anyone but his family. If Rip had

The World Of Yesterday, By Anthea Bell
Stefan Zweig s The World of Yesterday originally published in 1942 and translated into English in
2009 by Anthea Bell is a perceptive memoir that skillfully recounts the life of Zweig (a Jewish middle
class male) beginning with his childhood in Vienna, Austria pre World War I and ends right before
Zweig s suicide in 1942. During his account, Zweig provides critical commentary on various historical
events that is invaluable when it comes to putting these events in the context of the everyday life of
the individuals living through them. He also provides accounts of many societal structures as well as
of interesting individuals that are not necessarily important in the grand scheme of things but help the
reader build a more complete picture of the period. Throughout the book, Zweig maintains a
cautionary as well as a didactic tone that attempts to caution the reader about how society can change
so drastically and rapidly. Overall, Zweig s book is an excellent memoir that helps put major historical
events into context; however, the book also has some problems that undermine the delivery of the
cautionary message of the book. This book is a memoir by Stefan Zweig that recounts his life and
critically analyses some of the major world events that Zweig lived through. The setting at the
beginning of the book is Vienna, Austria in the Pre World I years, by the end of the book the setting
has changed many times because the author travels throughout Europe namely to Paris, Berlin,

Comparing Odyssey And Perseus Of Homer s Odyssey
If I were to summarize Clash of the Titans, it would be that Perseus, son of Zeus, watched his entire
family die as a result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, as a result of which he pursues the
gorgon medusa in order to use her head to defeat the kraken. My summery of the Greek version would
be that, Perseus; son of Zeus was cast out on the ocean with his mother in a trunk. After being
discovered by a fisherman, Perseus grows up accepting his godly half, goes after medusa to save his
mother s marriage. In the process he saves a women who soon became his wife using the head of the
gorgon, Medusa. Though the story and movie were from very different time periods there are still
several similarities. Several similarities between the movie and Greek version include, Perseus saved a
women using the head of the then slain gorgon medusa. Another similarity would be that he and his
mother were found in the ocean floating in a trunk in both versions. Yet another similarity between the
versions would be that, Perseus refuses to live on Olympus with his father. In both versions, the reason
for the princess being sacrificed, result from the queen insulting the beauty of the goddess Aphrodite.
Another big similarity between both versions would be that Perseus unknowingly fulfilled a prophecy.

Ageing Is Not A Disease, And Should Not Be Dreaded
Age comes with so many challenges including development of conditions that affect the well being of
the ageing individuals. There are so many people who would love to remain youthful, but this is
beyond the control of anybody. However, ageing is not a disease, and should not be dreaded. In fact,
old people still have so much to offer to the society including the experiences they have accumulated
over the years, the wisdom they have learned, and sometimes they even have valuable skills which
they can pass on to the younger generations. Older people have so much information within them and

regular income they are used to earning despite the fact that they still want to maintain the same

stress and even depression if they are not handled in the right manner. In fact, it is noteworthy to
understand that for the ageing to retire gracefully and not face those challenges, they need to plan their
retirement way before they are officially retired so that when they stop working, they already have a
plan which will not disrupt them so much from their activities, and, therefore, they are able to

associated with depression, which could make them lose functionality in the society.

Speaking the Truth
Speaking the Truth Before my current boss at the University, my boss was Susie. When I first started
working there, Susie and I did not get along very well. She would do things that I did not think
modeled leadership, such as telling her followers that they could not take off two weeks before start
week then she would take off during that time. As time progressed, she became a better leader and we
began to get along better. However, another team member that originally got along with her began to
miss a lot of work, come in late, leave in the middle of important jobs that had to be finished, etc. As a
result, she began to put a lot of pressure on this employee about this behavior. The more pressure she
put on him the angrier he got and he began to fight back in a very unethical way. We would go into
team meetings and she would tell us things such as I went home for lunch and was so tired I did not
come back for three hours and laugh saying I do think John even noticed. John was her boss and he
was located in another building, therefore he was not aware of her comings and goings unless it was
pointed out to him. While we the team did not think this, was appropriate behavior for a leader as a
team we talked about it being wrong, but did not talk about it outside of our circle. However, the
employee that she was putting pressure on to shape up seen this as the perfect opportunity to retaliate
against her and he went one step above her boss and reported it. As a result,

Fast Food Has A High Energy Density And Low Nutrient Profile
The days of eating every home cooked meal at the dining room table are disappearing. As working
and living styles become more fast paced, the time to exercise or prepare nutritious meals diminishes.
Eating habits have changed to achieve convenience. Drive throughs, delivery, and pre packaged meals
regularly provide consumers with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack options within minutes of
ordering. However, fast food has a high energy density and low nutrient profile that has led to a
worldwide increase of waistline. Obesity is becoming one of the most prevalent nutritional diseases in
developed countries. In the United States, adult body fat is measured using body mass index.
Approximately 73 million adults have BMIs greater than or equal to 30, which diagnoses them as
obese (Bell et al., 2011). Health professionals have not thoroughly understood the physiological
processes leading to the rapidly increased prevalence; however, high adiposity certainly results from
excess caloric intake and decreased energy expenditure. Childhood obesity, particularly beyond age
12, persists into adulthood in 80% of cases (Huang, Lee, Lu, 2007). About 30% of children ages two
to 19 years struggle with overweight (Mcpherson, 2012). The World Health Organization (WHO) and
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) growth charts measure standards using body mass
index for newborns to two years, and two to 20 years, respectively. A plot between the 85th and 94th

In addition, there is a general difference between embryos in laboratory and embryos in the womb.
The embryo in the womb has a definite chance of developing into a child unless a deliberate human
act interrupts its growth, an embryo in the laboratory can only develop into a child if there is a
deliberate human act (Singer and Dawson, 1988). To appear in a logical thinking, if there is a fire
accident in the hospital laboratory and the fireman has to decide whether to save a newborn baby or
embryos in Petri dishes, which one should he save? Technically, everyone would opt to save the

present that are seeking their own foothold in the country s struggle over power. However, this was
not always the case and an examination will take place into weather the conflict can be defined as

Egg Crack Science Project
Our hypothesis for this project was that we predicted that our egg would not crack and we thought that
it would survive the collision into the door. Our results were very different they were very different
because our egg did not survive the collision, instead the egg cracked everywhere. The rest of the class
mostly had the same results which was their egg cracked or exploded, but there were 2 or 3 groups
who managed to keep their egg alive and safe. Some of the things that could have made the egg crack
was that we didn t have any wheels on the car which made the car tip over and was not level, another
thing that could have affected the car was the fact that we didn t have much protection on the egg we
just had a bunch of paper on it and around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another force that was acting on the car was friction, friction was acting on the car because the piece
of wood was very rough and had little ridges on it which was rubbing on the car which would cause it
to slow down a little bit. The direction that the forces were going was pretty much everywhere, gravity
was going down and friction was going forwards and backwards. The car did not work well with the
friction because the friction would cause the car to somewhat lose control and go off the side of the
ramp, the car did not work well with the gravity either because the gravity is what cause the car to fall
and crack the egg. Some ways that we could minimize those forces is by making wheels for the car
and making the bottom of the car smooth to reduce the amount of friction, we can t really reduce the
gravity in the car but one thing that we could do for that is make the car really light but with a lot of
padding for the egg. The reason I say we could make it really light is so that when gravity is acting on
the car the car won t fall as fast and would somewhat glide down to the floor with a soft landing for

Comparison Of Greed In Elle Woods s Legally Blonde
Despite physical beauty, greed can create an ugly personality that affects relationships with others.
Elle Woods, worked her way up from nothing more than living as a pretty girl to get into Harvard, in
the movie Legally Blonde. While Glinda, of Wicked, used her high social status to remain in power by
tromping down others. Glinda the Good is known as the epitome of goodness but she stepped on other
to work her way up. Elle Woods however, was ambitious and worked hard to better herself and built
her way up to prevail as powerful. Both of these women may seem nothing more than beautiful, but
they arose above what people thought they could become to ensue as powerful, although in extremely
different ways. Glinda s greed left her well liked, but also isolated, depressed and alone, while Elle
Woods s ambition gave her a happier future and more successful life.
At the beginning of Legally Blonde, Elle Woods loses the man she loves to a different girl, which
makes her very upset. Vivian, the girl Elle s ex ended up going out with after Elle and her boyfriend
broke up, was extremely mean to Elle, but she didn t let it get the best of her. When asked how her
first day continued after meeting Vivian, Elle describes it as, good, except for this horrible preppy
girl..who made me look bad in front of the professor. But no biggie (SergeiK). Despite being bullied
by Vivian for the remainder of the movie, Elle chooses to put their differences aside in the end and try

Effectiveness of Public Service Announcements
Introduction
Celebrity endorsements are one of the most famous methods of marketing used today. Celebrity
endorsers are being used in about 25% of all the advertisements that we can see on the television.
Marketers are investing large sums of money to have a contract with the celebrities as they believe
that celebrities can affect the chances of success of a product. (Erica Weintraub Austina*, 2008)

Petty and Cacioppo (1981) have developed the elaboration likelihood model of persuasion which
explains the peripheral route to persuasion and the central route. In the peripheral route, persuasive
influences are more tangential to the issues at hand. For egg in a PSA targeted against smoking in
youth, the peripheral route will show the teenagers having a better sex life after quitting smoking.
(William G. Shadel, January 2009) Central processing occurs when the person at hand is aware about
the main message of the PSA and is motivated to consider its content. We will analyze the use of
celebrities for both these routes of persuasion and try to find out the effectiveness in each case.
A PSA is usually not presented to the audience at the time of action. A PSA is supposed to make the
audience think and act on the message later. Thus human memory plays a very important role in the
success of a PSA. (Shen, Monahan, Rhodes, Roskos Ewoldsen, 2009) If the audience is attracted by a
PSA, likes it but is not able to recollect it later the whole exercise ends in futility. Many researchers
have found that for the message to be effective, retained and used highly credible sources of delivering
the message have to be used and these sources of delivery should be able to create a personal connect
with the audience. (Joseph B. Walther1, 2010)In this context if we are using a public celebrity; he has
his own personality and a public image. We will try to

Raami In Vaddey Ratner s In The Shadow Of The Banyan
In the Shadow of the Banyan, by Vaddey Ratner, details the struggles of Raami, a young girl coming
of age in a time of the Cambodian genocide. The descriptions from Raami s point of view are vivid.
She is forced to leave her childhood behind with the regime of the Khmer Rouge. As a Cambodian
child, her life transformed from living as a princess with many privileges to living life day to day on
the move, witnessing such terror, is quite the turnaround for anyone especially a child. She processes
her experience as best as a child her age can, based on pure emotions. She s at an age where children
make sense of things with naivety. As the story continues, the descriptions of what she sees changes.

Discussion Of Potato Titration
The purpose of the iodimetric back titration, a form of redox titration, experiment is to determine the
weigh percentage of ascorbic acid in Vitamin C tablets. The experiment is performed by titrating
iodine solution that contains the dissolved ascorbic acid with sodium thiosulfate. The results of the
titration was inconclusive, and the weight percentage of the ascorbic acid could not be determined.
Several sources of error could explain the variation of titrated volume of sodium thiosulfate. These
sources of error include oxidation of sodium thiosulfate, the oxidation of ascorbic acid, the instability
of the iodide solution, and the starch indicator. Most of the sources of error are problems with samples
and solution being oxidized by the atmosphere. The results of the current experiment is dependent on
correcting the sources of error. To decrease the oxidation by air, prompt titrations are needed and
glassware that are light sensitive are needed to ensure that the sodium thiosulfate solution does not
oxidize.
Introduction The experiment is a redox titration process. A redox titration involves an oxidation
reduction reaction between an analyte and the titrate (Harris, 2016, p. 374). Iodine is commonly used
in a redox titration as it is a versatile redox reagent. Therefore, iodine can be a moderately weak
oxidizing agent or a moderately weak reducing agents depending in the presence of strong oxidants or
reducing agents.
This versatility allows iodine to be

Masculinity In Things Fall Apart
In Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, is a novel where the reader is introduced with an African
culture, the Igbo culture. It portrays the culture before the confrontation between Nigeria s white
colonial and the traditional culture of Igbo people. One of the character s presented in the novel values
manliness to the extreme and somewhat gets out of hand. The Igbo culture presents the essential role
men had and why they were the head of the family.Men that had titles were considered as a successful

Okonkwo s characterization in the opening of the novel reveals that men gained their fame by
personal achievement which then leads them to be considered as a successful man. Okonkwo is
portrayed as a honorable and well respected man. He did not let his father s characterization affect
him. Fortunately, among these people a man was judged according to his worth and not according to
the worth of his father (achebe8). Evidently, this shows that his value of manliness is very important to
him, being a successful man is an important role to him. Weakness and femininity were the two
characteristics that are vile to him, he tends to call out men with no tiles or accomplishment, women.
Okonkwo does not value manliness just because he desires to, but because it also plays an important
role in his culture. The men in the Igbo culture are the head of the family, and the only person who has
the authority to do anything they desire. Men with titles and personal achievement were represented as
successful men, because they demonstrated that they were capable of being worthy and showed no
weakness. In their culture women were seen as the weaker gender that is why men were the head of

Should College Drop Out
Education has been a major debate between students whether or not to drop out. Students have been
told since they were kids that they have to go to college in order to make a living. Education is not
required to have a successful job because not everyone can afford to go to college and some may not
want to go anyway. Celebrities have dropped out of college, worked at fast food restaurants, and
became celebrities. CEO founders have dropped out of college and have become founders of big
companies. Celebrities have dropped out of college and worked at fast food restaurants have made a

worked at El Pollo Loco dressed as a chicken to pay his bills. He dropped out of college two weeks
before earning his degree because he felt that he knew what direction he wanted to go into. He has
been in the top 10 for starting his career in Soaps. Madonna went to the University of Michigan for a

A Study Of Female Writers Of Romantic Period
A Study of female writers of romantic period
Introduction:
Various types of literature are found from the advent of English literature. Before the romantic period,
there were various other periods like old English literature, middle English literature, English
renaissance, neo classical period etc. From the beginning we notice that there is an imbalance between
the male and female authors. Male writers are found more than the female writers. This imbalance is
also found in the romantic literature. Also it is seen that, though the majority writers are men, the
women are more interested in reading those piece of literature, compared to male. The romantic period
was an intellectual movement originated in Europe during the late 17th century. William Wordsworth
is considered to be as the father of romantic period in one hand, on the other hand William blake is
called the father of romantic period. The romantic period was basically a response to industrial
revolution. In this period, the writers wrote about nature, personal experiences, showed the negative
side of city life and put more importance on imagination. Metaphors, symbols are quite common in
this period of writing. In this research, I will try to find out the reasons behind the less number of
female writers in the romantic period, was it because their lack of skills, was it because the male
writers were dominating or they did write but it was not published or there are

Highwaymen of the Superhighway Essay
The internet is an unregulated and chaotic environment that is only loosely governed by social norms
that have been established by the more well respected users leading the rest over many years. The
anonymity of these billions of users allows them to break these rules and conventions with little risk of
negative consequence. One of the biggest problems that stems from this is the pirating of media.
Internet pirates will make media such as movies, television shows, and music available on websites
such as The Pirate Bay, where users can download this content this free. This system takes money
away from creators and designers and gives it to the advertisers on pirating websites.
There are two reasons that people pirate media: either the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If everyone pirates their material, they won t make enough money to pursue their dream, and so
pirates ironically run the thing that they enjoy into the ground.
The first real attempt at public policy against internet piracy began with SOPA and PIPA, twins bills
introduced in early 2012, that were designed to give the government the right to block the domain
names of infringing sites and allow rights holders to seek court orders requiring payment providers,
advertisers, and search engines to stop doing business with an infringing site. (Newman) In layman s
terms, the bills gave them the power to take down any website they believed to be committing piracy
and to cut off that website from any advertisers or search engines, and any site accused would have
five days to appeal its case.
The problem with these bills was that they were extremely broad and gave the government too much
power, as well as not actually solving the problem. The majority of internet pirates are well versed in
computer programming, and the bills only allowed the government to shut down a websites domain,
not it s IP. A website s domain is it s web address, be it google.com or wikipedia.org. However, every
place on the internet has an IP address, which is most easily relatable to a social security number. If a
website was shut down by SOPA or PIPA, it could no longer be accessed by its domain, but it would
still exist and could

The Rise and Fall of the Warrant Chief System in the Cross...
INTRODUCTION
Prior to the advent of the British Colonialists to our shores more than four hundred years ago, the
traditional institutions held sway as the organisational structure around which the socio political,
cultural, administrative and economic life of the people revolved. It was therefore, not surprising that
the colonialists who came to exploit us with their imperial motives and to imposed their own social
order on the indigenous existing nationalities that later coalesced into the present day Nigeria, found it
expedient to enlist the support and cooperation of traditional rulers in securing their hold on the
conquered territories.
Indeed, the traditional rulers proved so indispensable in this regard that where non seemed to have ...

This was a very crude version of indirect rule. To this extent, many Warrant Chiefs solely constituted
colonially backed usurpers of power and had little or no legitimacy beyond the fact of them being
installed by the colonial state. Without any pedigree and claim to traditional legitimacy, they held to
power and used it for their own parochial ends.
THE WORKINGS OF THE WARRANT CHIEF SYSTEM.
The Warrant Chiefs main source of power was the control of Native Courts and of labour, for
example, for colonial road and waterways constructions.4 These artificially created chiefs were given
the authority to arrest and detain people who committed offences; and debtors who could not meet
their financial obligations owed to others. They also acted as tax collectors for the Colonial masters.
Native courts were graded A to D according to the Native Court Ordinance No.44 of 1933, with Grade
A courts empowered with full judicial powers including capital powers, each subsequent grade having
diminished capabilities. In the Eastern Region, there were no Grade A Courts, 5 at Grade B(divided
between Calabar and Onitsha), 54 at Grade C(of which29 were in Ogoja province), 492 at Grade D
(with 93 in Ogoja) as well as 45 Native Appeal Courts ,each also possessing status as courts of the
first instance. Of these, 12 were in Ogoja province.5 As the courts grew in number

Royal jelly treatments caused significant reductions in serum LDL C, VLDL C, TG, TC levels and

cause decrease in sterol regulatory element binding protein (SREB) 1, which may be a transcriptional

element has on the understanding and interpretation of the piece. It also provides a way of tracking the

The opening scene introduces us to the person we later learn is John Scottie Ferguson, something that
does not play out until much later in the film relates to the demonstration of the debilitating extent of
Johns inability to act in the face of heights, once with the police officer and then with his love whom
he cant stop because of his fear. The opening scene builds on the credits by creating the expectation of
suspense and thrill and mystery shrouding the true identity and relation of characters and setting up
the disposableness of characters in the film, this adds to the complexity of Madeline s disease as the
audience cant tell whether, or more when, she will die.
The rooftop chase creates an expectation of dark drama, which moves into the scene with Midge in a
light filled room where Scottie appears to be in control of his fear and the relationship between the
two characters is established, whilst not technically part of the opening scene it instantly makes the
viewer question whether their interpretation of the initial segment of the film was correct, already one
is questioning their ability to pick the direction of the film.

Chiapas Paz Mexico Mural Analysis
The reason I think Chiapas Paz Mexico mural at City Lights bookstore on Jack Kerouac alley is art
because the artist communicates with the viewers by using art theory such as color theory, lines and
shapes, and composition on his mural.
The artist paints a work of art Chiapas Paz Mexico which is influenced by the way of life of the
people living in a river valley in Mexico. For the composition, he paints the mural by dividing two
main parts by using flat form style to tell the story. He doesn t show perspective or overlap objects on
the mural. However, the right side of the mural, he paints an unrealistic shape and forms little village
with buildings, trees, hills and people into the background of the mural, making them appear far away.
At the top of mural, there is an army standing above the mountains of the village. The other interesting
part is the old woman at the left side of the mural. She has the biggest portrait on black the
background and is separated from a part of the village by the 3 soldiers. However, there is a rainbow
ribbon connecting two parts together and the woman is a starting point of the rainbow. The rainbow

you read about the gold rush It started when some men were working and they were digging.then they
found gold it pretty much spread immediately. People came from everywhere to find gold. Then they
started to make towns and people wanted the gold. They started to fight and it became kaos. After
people moved in to the gold land people were charging 19 million to live there. But people did not like
the cost to live there. So they went somewhere eventually they found gold. About 1 year later it was a
ghost town(a ghost is a town is a town that had a lot of people but now they all leave). In Helena
people found gold in 1864. People went nuts and wanted that gold. So they went to Helena and got all
that gold and went a way. A few years later they found gold in grasshopper creek. In conclusion I think
the gold rush is very important.Next week I will be talking about the battle of the little bighorn. So

Should Australia Have The Right To An Adequate Standard Of...
Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights embodies the right to an adequate standard
of living. Although this doctrine was adopted in 1948, there is a significant amount of work to be done
worldwide. Moreover, the absence of a right to housing would compromise many other basic rights
including the right to family life and privacy, freedom of movement, assembly and association, and
the right to health.
The Commonwealth of Australia believes that everyone has the right to an adequate standard of living,
including adequate food, water, and housing. Australia acknowledges adequate housing as an essential
for human survival as supported in documents such as Australia s National Human Rights Action Plan.
Human rights provides us with a language and a framework that can help shift the debate from one of
welfare and pity to one of rights and empowerment. (Graeme Innes, former Human Rights

What I m From Hawaii
2016 Kealoha,Tiare College Essay I m from Hawaii, a volcanic island where lava bubbles up like a
molten spring of fire and stone. I was born to a Hawaiian father and an American mother. We lived off
grid in the district of Puna near the billowing smoke of Kilauea. Puna is like the wild west, a rugged,
rural area. It isn t uncommon for people to grow their own food and raise their own stock. Many live
off generators and small catchment tanks for plumbing. I remember going out in the night, flashlight
in my mouth, right hand on the generator keeping it steady, left hand pouring gasoline, then furiously
tugging at the string to start the generator. It was best to complete homework before nightfall so you

of my life. One of the biggest changes happened when I was 15 years old. I started to think of college
in my last years of middle school. Until then College was someone else s reality. Not many people
from my community attended college. They felt that their futures were supposed to be spent being a
clerk or fisherman. The change happened on a trip to visit mainland college towns, explore
possibilities beyond the islands cultural landscape With the help of my aunt, I created a bakery
product, brownie balls. To raise money for the trip, I baked and sold these brownie balls at the farmers
market. The process was hard and tiring. I remember working up until

  • 2. Coleman And Gouaux Serotonin Case Study In this paper, Coleman and Gouaux investigate how to inhibit serotonin reuptake specifically in three antidepressants: sertraline, fluvoxamine, and paroxetine. While it is known that an allosteric site on the serotonin transporter can be blocked to prevent the reuptake of serotonin, the problem is little is known about how exactly these ligands are able to bind and prevent the reuptake of serotonin. Coleman and Gouaux attempt to answer this mystery by pushing sertraline, fluvoxamine, and paroxetine to bind to the serotonin transporter and then by analyzing X ray structures of these inhibitors bounded to the transporters. Background: Depression is a mental illness categorized by strong feelings of sadness and cognitive changes that can alter a person s ability to function normally. While research is still being done on what exactly triggers depression in the brain, a hypothesis on one of the physical causes of feeling depressed is a serotonin imbalance in the brain. Serotonin is a monoamine neurotransmitter that produces the good feelings in the brain. Two problems are present in people with depression: either the brain is not producing enough serotonin or the serotonin transporters are retaking the serotonin too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Coleman and Gouaux figured out that the serotonin transporters have a secondary allosteric site, otherwise known as a place where a protein will bind, that only gets activated when a ligand binds ... Stephen Toulmin model of argumentation was not realized in Great Britain, but when he got to America those same ideas manifested to become the Toulmin model we know today. In the earlier stages of The Toulmin model it was used in debate manuals. The Toulmin model analyzes the strength and weaknesses of any argumentation. The Toulmin model has advanced into the rhetorical interpretation of literary texts. This tool is used for developing, examining, and classifying arguments. There are six parts of the model of argument from the claim, data, warrant, backing, modality, and rebuttal. The claim is the position or claim, which is argued for the deduction of the argument. For example a claim would be cars over 20 years old shouldn t be allowed on the road. The data are the foundation or basis for the claim, the support. An example of data would be older vehicles pollute the environment and are less safe than newer car models. The warrant is also mentioned as the bridge, it is a description of why or how the data supports the claim, the underlying assumptions that links the data to the claim. An example of warrant would be removing the older car models from the road, and would drastically improve the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

LED s or Light Emitting Diodes have been around since the 60 s and I think they are starting to decline. The new technology slowly replacing LED s are OLED s or Organic Light Emitting Diodes. Now these are special because they contain small quantities of organic material such as carbon. OLED s feature many vase improvements over its older friend LED s, these include: flexibility, durability, transparency and the list goes on! Although this all comes with an unfortunately large price tag. While OLED s are a great technology nowadays they have not always been so advanced. Advocates use the terminology to limit the ability and potential damages available to individuals who take legal actions against companies. In 2002, the consumer advocacy organization Center for Justice and Democracy investigated the U.S. tort reform and saw that the rally was actually a massive national PR effort initiated by the tobacco industry to reduce or eliminate exposure to liability law suits. (Journal of Patient Safety) Anyone with a valid claim stands to receive compensation, but only up to a specified amount, which often leads to dissatisfaction and complaint There are qualitative factors, of course, that add to the complexity of these scenarios. I believe there are some interesting studies around no fault apology that might contribute to a reduction in claims, for example. It would also be interesting to see what improvements collaborative law processes might bring. Both the loss shifting and the loss spreading scenarios are vulnerable to exploitation by players motivated by greed or factors of self advancement. In an ideal world, a civil society could rationally and effectively operate either or both loss shifting or loss spreading models in a sustainable way. (Coles, par 16) Since there isn t a law in place for a woman being convicted for drinking or smoking while pregnant, they dig a little deeper and get more technical. Charges for unlawful child neglect, delivering drugs to a minor, homicide by child abuse and even manslaughter have been given to mothers who abuse drugs or alcohol while pregnant. Some even believe in terminating the woman s parental rights. Whether or not the child shows signs before birth, they have started to test newborns for drugs and prosecute from there. (NAPW, par 33 35) Screening for alcohol and drug use in prenatal care is widely promoted in the United States as a public health strategy for reducing alcohol and drug use during pregnancy. (Roberts, par 1) I think that they re promoting drug and alcohol testing in prenatal care to help the mother get help, not punish her for doing them. Reading through a few articles on prenatal testing, I realized that most women see it as the doctor is going to turn over her information to the enforcements, which is not the case. During his account, Zweig provides critical commentary on various historical events that is invaluable when it comes to putting these events in the context of the everyday life of the individuals living through them. He also provides accounts of many societal structures as well as of interesting individuals that are not necessarily important in the grand scheme of things but help the reader build a more complete picture of the period. Throughout the book, Zweig maintains a cautionary as well as a didactic tone that attempts to caution the reader about how society can change so drastically and rapidly. The descriptions from Raami s point of view are vivid. She is forced to leave her childhood behind with the regime of the Khmer Rouge. As a Cambodian child, her life transformed from living as a princess with many privileges to living life day to day on the move, witnessing such terror, is quite the turnaround for anyone especially a child. • 28. Discussion Of Potato Titration The purpose of the iodimetric back titration, a form of redox titration, experiment is to determine the weigh percentage of ascorbic acid in Vitamin C tablets. The experiment is performed by titrating iodine solution that contains the dissolved ascorbic acid with sodium thiosulfate. The results of the titration was inconclusive, and the weight percentage of the ascorbic acid could not be determined. Several sources of error could explain the variation of titrated volume of sodium thiosulfate. These sources of error include oxidation of sodium thiosulfate, the oxidation of ascorbic acid, the instability of the iodide solution, and the starch indicator. Most of the sources of error are problems with samples and solution being oxidized by the atmosphere. The results of the current experiment is dependent on correcting the sources of error. To decrease the oxidation by air, prompt titrations are needed and glassware that are light sensitive are needed to ensure that the sodium thiosulfate solution does not oxidize. Introduction The experiment is a redox titration process. A redox titration involves an oxidation reduction reaction between an analyte and the titrate (Harris, 2016, p. 374). Iodine is commonly used in a redox titration as it is a versatile redox reagent. Therefore, iodine can be a moderately weak oxidizing agent or a moderately weak reducing agents depending in the presence of strong oxidants or reducing agents. This versatility allows iodine to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Okonkwo s characterization in the opening of the novel reveals that men gained their fame by personal achievement which then leads them to be considered as a successful man. Okonkwo is portrayed as a honorable and well respected man. He did not let his father s characterization affect him. Fortunately, among these people a man was judged according to his worth and not according to the worth of his father (achebe8). Evidently, this shows that his value of manliness is very important to him, being a successful man is an important role to him. • 31. A Study Of Female Writers Of Romantic Period A Study of female writers of romantic period Introduction: Various types of literature are found from the advent of English literature. Before the romantic period, there were various other periods like old English literature, middle English literature, English renaissance, neo classical period etc. From the beginning we notice that there is an imbalance between the male and female authors. Male writers are found more than the female writers. This imbalance is also found in the romantic literature. Also it is seen that, though the majority writers are men, the women are more interested in reading those piece of literature, compared to male. The romantic period was an intellectual movement originated in Europe during the late 17th century. William Wordsworth is considered to be as the father of romantic period in one hand, on the other hand William blake is called the father of romantic period. The romantic period was basically a response to industrial revolution. In this period, the writers wrote about nature, personal experiences, showed the negative side of city life and put more importance on imagination. Metaphors, symbols are quite common in this period of writing. In this research, I will try to find out the reasons behind the less number of female writers in the romantic period, was it because their lack of skills, was it because the male writers were dominating or they did write but it was not published or there are ... The anonymity of these billions of users allows them to break these rules and conventions with little risk of negative consequence. One of the biggest problems that stems from this is the pirating of media. Internet pirates will make media such as movies, television shows, and music available on websites such as The Pirate Bay, where users can download this content this free. (Newman) In layman s terms, the bills gave them the power to take down any website they believed to be committing piracy and to cut off that website from any advertisers or search engines, and any site accused would have five days to appeal its case. The problem with these bills was that they were extremely broad and gave the government too much power, as well as not actually solving the problem. The majority of internet pirates are well versed in computer programming, and the bills only allowed the government to shut down a websites domain, not it s IP. A website s domain is it s web address, be it google.com or wikipedia.org. However, every place on the internet has an IP address, which is most easily relatable to a social security number. INTRODUCTION Prior to the advent of the British Colonialists to our shores more than four hundred years ago, the traditional institutions held sway as the organisational structure around which the socio political, cultural, administrative and economic life of the people revolved. It was therefore, not surprising that the colonialists who came to exploit us with their imperial motives and to imposed their own social order on the indigenous existing nationalities that later coalesced into the present day Nigeria, found it expedient to enlist the support and cooperation of traditional rulers in securing their hold on the conquered territories. The Warrant Chiefs main source of power was the control of Native Courts and of labour, for example, for colonial road and waterways constructions.4 These artificially created chiefs were given the authority to arrest and detain people who committed offences; and debtors who could not meet their financial obligations owed to others.
