The Factors And Roles Of The Stanford Prison Experiment
Not everything goes according to plan. At Stanford University, an experiment was conducted by a
psychology professor, infamously known as the Stanford prison experiment. The research was based
and held in a prison setting with 24 recruited individuals who were then appointed as either inmates or
guards, the operation was planned for two weeks as well as rules that were meant to be followed.
What would be the fundamental purpose of experimenting with this, why did the head researcher want
to conduct this experiment, how did the use affect the outcome? Why would someone run an
experiment like this? The purpose was to understand the development of norms and the effects of
roles, labels, and social expectations in a simulated prison environment (Zimbardo, 1971). With the
exercise, the researchers were able to investigate how realistic the 24 individuals fit into their roles.
With the participants playing into their roles it would hopefully demonstrate a specific analysis of the
situation, as well as the difficulties and hardships between guards and prisoners within United States
Navy and the United States Marine Corps (Zimbardo,1971). With the funding of the experiment
coming from the U.S. Office of Naval Research, the participants were paid $15 per day. The money
compensation gave the individuals a reason to take this experiment seriously because back at that time
$15 would approximately be $90 in 2017. (Banks,1973). Although the experiment had multiple

Gavin And Suresh Case Study
There are two types of employment relationships which are a contract of service and contract for
service. First, a contract of service essentially a contract between an employer and employee under
which employee agrees to work for the employer. By employment Act 1955 define a contract of
service as any agreement, whether oral or writing and express, whereby one person agrees to hire
another as his employee and include an apprenticeship contract. Second, a contract for service does
not create an employee or employer relationship, it creates a contractual relationship between an
employer and independent contractor. There are three test will be distinguish whether Gavin and

Solving the Foreclosure Crisis- Decrease Interest Rates,...
Foreclosure is an important issue in the United States and needs to be ended or decreased rapidly as
soon as possible for the sake of America s economy. The foreclosure of homes has decreased the state
of the economy, and rendered millions of Americans homeless. There are four key solutions that will
stop foreclosures in the United States and able millions of American to keep their homes. The first
solution is having banks lower their interest rates for all citizens who are in financial need of an
interest rate deduction. The second solution is creating jobs that are able to sustain through an
economic crisis. The third solution is for states and towns to conduct public seminars on how to
manage and budget ones finances during financially ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The disadvantages of having banks lower their interest rates are, people may feel less obligated to pay
their mortgage payments on time because the interest rates are lower, despite the jobs that are
available through people owning homes there still may not be enough jobs to go around causing there
to be very little change in the amount of homes in foreclosure. Creating jobs that are able to sustain
through an economic crisis will stop foreclosures because if citizens lose their jobs in an economic
crisis they will be able to quickly find another job. This would be beneficial in the fight to end
foreclosures because people would have the funds to pay their mortgage and any other financial
obligations. How one would go about creating new jobs is by developing new technology, products,
and services that would change the way people live their everyday life while helping them to save
money. Hybrid vehicles are an example of a new technology that has currently kept and created new
jobs for citizens in the U.S. Hybrid vehicles are perfect examples of a new technology that has
changed the way people live their life while helping them to save money. There are two types of
hybrid vehicles such as, hybrid electric vehicles (HEV s), and plug in hybrid vehicles (PHEV s).

Anxiously Waiting For The Next Therapy Session
Anxiously waiting for the next therapy session, I began to pace back and forth through the office. For
the past six months, I had been dreaming of finding a way to incorporate my food science background
in an Occupational Therapy setting. Most people had doubted by ambition to combine the two fields,
but I was confident that I could find a way for them to parallel. As I paced around the room, I recalled
the details of the next client. He was a 6 year old foster child with severe food anxiety. Constantly
transitioning to and from different foster homes, he had never lived in a stable environment. As a
direct repercussion of this, any new foods that he encountered resulted in a major anxiety attack.
Consequently, he was quickly declining to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then he placed the bread in a pan and fried an egg inside the hole. This may seem like an elementary
task, but it for this little boy, building his bird s nest was the greatest accomplishment of his life. Each
week we would work to overcome every fear he encountered from touching the bread to cracking the
eggs and even tasting the final product. After several weeks of continuously working to build different
bird s nest, he finally overcame his fear and took a bite of the egg and toast. While chewing, the little
boy couldn t stop smiling from excitement. He told us that as soon as he got home he wanted to make
his mom a bird s nest too. Little did he know, his foster mother had been making him eggs and toast
every day and he had been refusing to eat it. The idea was to make the food as non threatening as
possible and after weeks of carefully integrating, we were able to accomplish this task. Being apart of
this little boy s progress is one of the most influential moments of my life. Seeing the little boy
overcome his fears and being able to contribute to his success fueled my desire and passion to become
an Occupational Therapist. I learned that even with a degree in Food Science, Occupational Therapy is
so diverse that I can apply my food sensory background in my therapy sessions.
Growing up, I always imagined that I would go into the Food Science field. My father had a great
career in the food industry and had influenced me to pursue a career that fed the world. I

Deadly force is a force that a person uses causing, or that a person knows or should know would
create a substantial risk of causing, death or seriously bodily harm or injury. Perhaps the most
important kind of discretion that police must exercise relates to the use of force. Although police
officers are legally empowered to use force in certain situations, they may use only the level of force
necessary to meet a lawful police objective (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The enormous
public attention to allegations of excessive force has deflected attention from the most common forms
of police behavior that lead to citizen complaints. Rudeness, discourtesy, or a failure to provide
adequate service make up the majority of complaints in every jurisdiction (Walker, Mediating Citizen
Complaints). The excessive use of force leads to deadly force. In my opinion, I think that if people
would just cooperate with police officers instead of resisting arrest or etc. there wouldn t be such use
of excessive force or even deadly force. In 2010, we saw a large increase in the number of deadly
force encounters our officers were involved in. Historically, the city has had about six officer involved
shootings per year. We had 14 in 2010, and the majority of those were fatal. (Police Executive
Research Forum, An Integrated Approach). Chief Ray Schultz from Albuquerque on the deadly force

Spain s economy is a well based way to equally spread money to all of the people. Some of Spain s
natural resources include coal, lignite, iron ore, uranium, mercury, pyrites, fluorspar, gypsum, zinc,
lead, tungsten, copper, kaolin; hydroelectric power. Spain s currency is the European Union euro.
Spain s imports include machinery and equipment, fuels, chemicals, semi finished goods, foodstuffs,
consumer goods, measuring and medical control instruments. In 2011, the amount of money that
Spain received for imports was $364.9 billion. Some of Spain s exports include machinery, motor
vehicles; foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, medicines, other consumer goods. In 2011, the amount of
money that Spain received for exports was $309.6 billion.
The gross domestic per capita is thirty three thousand six hundred euros a year. In labor force 2.4
percent goes to agriculture, 24 percent to industry, and 71.1 percent to services. Spain came out in the
number one position because it is a sunny country, because its citizens enjoy shorter working hours
and more days holiday, because energy and lifestyle costs are lower, because the government invests
into education and healthcare, because the average age at which people die is higher than in most of
Europe and because overall, living in Spain ensures you have a better quality of life.

my construction of this tank, I don t think he knows that a 46ft wide and 36ft high tank can t be built
over the course of a few days, I will certainly need more people to get this done within the next few

we d gain the country of Italy to support us, I was told that I should soon be receiving several more
engineers from Italy to help in the creation of our behemoth, this is very good news as with the

Technology on the Rise
Technology has been growing throughout the years; ever changing and evolving in all new ways. It
has come natural to us by now, to use technology on anything and everything. We use technology for
even the littlest things, such as looking up a recipe for a meal, or the name of an actor. It seems to be
that the more technology develops, the more addicted and the more dependent we become. If we
really think about how many times we use technology a day, we will start to realize how much it has
consumed us. Think about how many times a day you see someone on their phone, or on a computer.

People who use their cell phones while driving are not only a danger to themselves but to everyone
else on the road. It s estimated that at least 23% of all car accidents each year involve cell phone use
that s 1.3 million crashes. (Statistics, lines 38 39) The increased use in cellular devices seems to be
very distracting to drivers and therefore becoming a hazard. Sometimes, you might catch someone
walking into a wall or bumping into others, as if they were a zombie, because they are too distracted
by their technology. As technology can help save our lives in many different ways, it can also be what
causes our lives to be at risk; we should be cautious and careful how we use it and never become
zombified by it. Technology has not only made things easier for us but has made things in life a lot
faster. Cars, trains, planes, and boats have made traveling around the world so much faster. Places that
would take us days to get by car, we can simply take a plane and get there in a few hours. Phone calls,
texting, E mail, and social media have made it so much faster to talk to friends who live hours always
or even across the world. You can now Facetime or Skype with family and friends to keep in touch,
face to face. Computers now make sending files to jobs, schools, and friends very fast and efficient.
Technology allows us to do many things much faster, but does that make us more dependent on it.

Therefore, since independence, the main objective of Pakistan s foreign policy has been to protect its
territorial integrity against a possible attack from India to ensure national security from external
threats. An important aspect of Pakistan s foreign policy is that its relations with India mainly
determine its attitude towards the other nations. It has conjured up threat from India, and by constantly
harping on its fear of India; Pakistan has tried to win the sympathy of the superpowers. However, the
basic force behind Pakistan foreign policy is its security and survival, both economic and military.
However, the very nature of the state system breeds feelings of insecurity, distrust, suspicion, and fear.
This atmosphere produces a constant competition for power in which each state, to reduce its
insecurity, seeks to enhance its power relative to that of a possible foe. If a state perceives its
neighbour as a potential enemy, it tries to deter an attack or political coercion by becoming a little
stronger than its neighbour, or at least as strong. The neighbour, in turn, also fears attack or political
intimidation. It understands that its best interests lie in increasing its strength to forestall either
contingency or, if necessary, in winning a war, should matters go that far.
There was very strong perception among the Congress leaders that Pakistan is not economically viable
state and it could not survive. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad revealed that among others Sardar

Our group separated the research on Japan into sections of history, current Religious Education (RE)

surrounded Japan: Shinto and Buddhism. In addition, two other religions, Confucianism and
Christianity, also contributed a considerate amount to the RE in Japan. The four major time periods

Shinto is the belief of kami, spirits, deities that exist as things in nature, such as trees or streams,
watching over the humans on Earth. To the Japanese, Shinto was not particularly a religion but
something that is part of their lives, like another part of the natural world, albeit a part of enormous
power (BBC: History 1). So, in a sense, religion actually came into Japan in the 6th century, when
Buddhism, founded by Prince Shotoku (571 622), was transmitted to Japan from China (Web Japan 2).
After the birth of Buddhism into Japan, Shinto faiths and traditions took on Buddhist elements, and
later, Confucian ones (BBC: History 1). The Emperor Shomu (701 756) adopted Buddhism as the
official state religion and build a huge statute of Buddha to commemorate this occasion. Even still, the
coexistence of Buddhism and Shinto continued (Web Japan 2). Since Buddhism and Shinto were the
main beliefs in Japan, during the time in the 16th century, religious tensions with Christianity grew
when Christian missionaries tried to convert many of the Japanese (BBC: History 2). Due to such
actions of forced conversions, Christianity was seen as a threat in Japan and in which made Buddhism
and Shinto the dominant religions in the 17th century partly because an anti Christian measure forced
every Japanese person to register at a Buddhist temple and to pay for the privilege of being a Buddhist

Examples Of Compromise In The Lover s Dictionary
The Lovers Dictionary Compromise is an agreement or a settlement of a dispute that is reached by
each side making concessions or an ability to listen to two sides in a dispute, and devise an agreement
acceptable to both parties. Compromise is not only just an agreement to settle a dispute, it is also
unselfishly giving up something for another while respecting their personal boundaries. One can
assume that with relationships there will always be disagreements and non compromise. Therefore, no
matter how many low points a relationship gets to there is always the ability to compromise to solve

Comparing Greek And Native American Creation Stories
Firstly, I would like to start off with the beginning where Greek creation stories with other creation
stories all started with chaos (nothing). Gaia and Uranus which were created as Mother Earth and the
Sky. Then Erebus was created in the void. In the Chinese creation story, the passage says all was
chaos, and this chaos was shaped like a hen s egg. Inside the egg were Yin and Yang , which were the
two opposing forces of which the universe was made. However the difference is that Gaia and Uranus
went on to give birth to Rhea and Cronus then they went onto giving birth to gods such as Zeus,
Poseidon and so on... There is a little more difference from the Greek creation stories and the Native
American creation stories, in the native American creation stories, the old man Kumish was created
and he would do all the creation himself rather than in the Greek creation stories; other gods creating
separate things. In Serbian creation stories in the beginning there was nothing but God. He slept and
dreamed for ages and he woke up at last at one point. As he woke up, every glance formed a star and
as he travelled the universe was created.
In the Chinese creation story, the world was created when the chaos (which was the shape of a hen s
egg) was rented apart. The elements were created, the heavier ones sank to form earth and the lighter

Malinowski a functionalist focuses on the psychological needs of individuals in times of stress.
Malinowski believes religion provides people with meanings in times of life crisis for example death
and funerals. Things such as funerals allow people to move on and minimise the disruption to society.
He argues that the idea of heaven provides people with a meaning of life. This maintains the status
quo as it allows people to get on with day to day life. Malinowski did a study of the Troiband Island
and he argued people use religion in times of uncertainty. He found that when the people of the island
went to out to fish they felt safe when they fished in the lagoon they felt safe as they was close to
home, However when they went to fish out in the sea where the survival rate was low they would pray
to god to keep them safe. This shows that religion is a conservative force as it maintains the status quo
because it allows people to forget their problems and carry on with their every day life. Parsons

Foreign aid is given to developing countries, and is necessary to build an environment where policies
and infrastructure can be in place to support other sources of finance. Australia is part of the
worldwide foreign aid commitment as we value that everyone should have a fair go, and the country
plans to give $3.9 billion over 2017 and 2018. We help countries in need by contributing, food,
resources, providing financial assistance, exchanging goods, personal time and knowledge. The main
types of aid are humanitarian aid, which is disaster relief and emergency aid and development aid,
which is a long term commitment between nations. Australian aid is strongly on development aid
particularly focused on the Asia Pacific region, but it also has a strong commitment to African and
South Asia. Interestingly, 90% of Australia s foreign aid goes to Asia Pacific countries such as
Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, because if they build into a developed nation, then we can build
trade relations, regional security and partner in defence. This is a polarizing issue that divides the
nation due to different views on Australia giving aid, however, a strong foreign aid program is vital for
Australia to build successful relations and regional security.
One view that is shared by a large sector of the population is that we are giving to much aid to other
countries and we need to focus on resolving

Congenital hypopituitarism is a rare condition and refers to absence or reduction in function of two or
more hormones produced by pituitary gland. When all pituitary hormones are affected the term
panhypopituitarism is used. It can be congenital or acquired. Congenital hypopituitarism is potentially
fatal in newborn period but treatable if the diagnosis is made early. Presentation of hypopituitarism

The Religious Convictions Of The Greeks
During prehistoric times, the Greeks had outright and unquestionable admiration for their divine
beings. They showed their reverence by putting set up numerous ceremonies and festivals to worship
the divine beings that they adored to guarantee concordance with them. Specifically, the center will be
on the religious convictions of the Greeks, including request to God and present, and also on
celebrations and human expressions, for example, the old Olympic recreations and theater. These parts
of their society made a critical commitment to their personal satisfaction and the subjects will be

The Olympian religion is very complex meaning that each god had its purpose to them and they were
loyal to each god by trying to satisfy them in their own way.
The Greek divine beings were depicted as people, which implied that they were not great. That is, the
divine beings committed errors, felt torment, and experienced outrage and had their tempers. The
religion was custom based and had no standard ministries, no progressive framework, and no
blessed/holy content or good code. Numerous researchers accept that the religion and society
comprised of stories told and made due through oral convention, which are the myths that we know
today. In the myths that have made due through the ages, the Greeks utilized the divine beings as a
way to defend anything that they couldn t comprehend or deductively clarify. For instance, when
thunder and lightning tumbled from the sky joined by downpour, it was accepted that Zeus, the divine
force of the sky, was in charge of it.
Furthermore, it was possibly a sign that he was angered with the people for something wrong they did.
In that admiration, the Greeks accepted that Zeus and his Olympian divine beings were of the best
criticalness. Every God had their own sanctuary, and inside these sanctuaries the ministers or
priestesses verified that the tenets of offering were being watched. They

My Day At School
On Thursday the fourth week of school, I woke up earlier than usual. I set my alarm to vibrate at 8:30
but I instead woke up at 8. Not caring how exhausted, I was from staying up late the night before to
complete an assignment, regretting procrastinating, I decided to start my day early. Being prudent, I
search the weather to figure out what to wear. I prepared myself for the day, setting my clothes on the
bed and placed my shoes out. I took my towel and shower caddy with all my shower essentials out and
hopped in the shower moments later. When I finished washing I put my clothes on and put a ponytail
in my hair. My class start at 9:30 am and I was ready at 9:10 am. Staying at Rosa Alexander Hall I
have to leave before 9:20 because Madison is a 10 minute walk.
Walking downstairs, greeting the RA that was at the front desk, I walked out the front door and into
beautiful weather. The sky was sapphire blue and the sun was shining so bright it might blind your
eyes if you look directly at it. This is the first good weather we had since the rain we have been having
for these few days. Walking to class, just pass the library, I see one of my friends and we decide to
walk with each other because our class is in the same building. Reaching the building my friend and
us go our separate ways, her staying on the first floor and me heading upstairs.
My first class is English 101 with Professor Camp. We went over the vocabulary words and learned
that we have a quiz on Tuesday. Then we went over one of Maya Angulo s stories to have an idea of
what our observation paper looks like. Mr. Camp ended class around 11:15 so I just walked downstairs
to my other class. I was so early that the class that uses the classroom before us was still there.
My teacher entered class looking like she was trying to put her life together. Gathering the materials
she will be needing for the lesson. She made a couple of announcements and went along teaching. The
class was long and dreadful. I wanted to bring my bed in class to fall asleep. It felt like she has been
talking forever until I checked the time and saw only 25 minutes passed I realized this was going to be
a long class. Class ended and I hurried out of class not wanting to stay any

There is no denying that the criminal justice system is downright corrupt, unjust, and powerful. By
corrupt, the criminal justice system degrades the power it possesses to perform in its out most

and fear to respond to situations that entail the lives of racial minorities. These ideas extend to a much
greater problem which is the disposition on minorities. There is the majority group, also known as the

The Secretary Chant
In this poem Marge Piercy s speaker evokes a concrete vision of a woman who has lost her personal
identity to her job. Her bold and descriptive use of metaphors allow the reader to envision a woman
who is living her life vicariously through her career. Ms. Piercy successfully uses paradox,
personification, and the pun to bring the character alive. With the use of metaphors, both implied and
explicit, the reader can deeply empathize with the central character of this poem.
From the first line of the poem the tone is set for the reader. It is not so vague as to use a simple
simile, but a strong manifestation of the idea of the speaker as an actual personification of a material
object. She does not say My hips are like a desk , she says ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Reflection Of Michelangelo In Pieta
Be that as it may be, when applying this guidance to his works he used it as leverage in order to
illustrate, a sensual response to this aesthetic. Michelangelo in Pieta helps us to see through his eyes,
the struggle between Platonic ideals and carnal desire in his sculpture when focusing more detail on
the attributions of a male phasic rather than that of females. Additionally, he is primarily known for his
work depicting, mannerism, a deliberately stylized form of sophisticated art, in which the human body
is idealized. For instance, we see this when we draw our attention towards the increasingly large size
of The Virgin Mary compared to that of her son Christ who lays in her arms. Through this sculpture of
the Pieta, Michelangelo tells the story of how Mary s son Christ died for his religious beliefs and
really focuses on the relationship between Christ and his mother Mary. Coupled with the sculptures
symbolic intent of sacrifice for faith through, the way the Virgin Mary s hand is extended outward and
facing up is her saying this is the path to salvation and this is God s sacrifice for mankind, my sacrifice
of my son that makes possible your redemption. Although this may be true we don t see much of this
today. While back in the Renaissance many people had to make sacrifices whether it was through
death or through other means for their religious faiths. At the same time with these sacrifices came
along rebirths ironically being in the same era of the

Batman Origin
Although the Batman: Year one was released almost thirty years ago, it was one of the most popular,
best known origins in popular culture because of its true character and raw chain of events: a young
boy becomes scarred for life after he sees his family murdered in a dark alley by a quarrelsome
mugger simply by chance. After years of training to be the greatest crime fighter in the world evolves
the Batman, one of the greatest superheroes of all time and protector of Gotham City. Although there
was one clear provenance when the original graphic novel was released, after two huge blockbuster
movies, almost half a dozen animated series, a greatly popular video game, and multiple other comic
book interpretations, that origin has been morphed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mistake was not accounting for the impact first person narration had over placing the characters
and narrative action within their proper context in the original comic. This mistake is vividly apparent
in a scene where Batman is on one of his first adventures to fight crime in his costume where he
attacks three teenagers that are in the middle of robbing an apartment. The scene does not have much
action to it besides the rookie Batman almost throwing one of teens off a fire escape then saving him
and fighting off the other two accomplices. After Batman defeats them and saves the other boy he lies
on the ground for a bit and mentally scolds himself for being a lucky amateur . The scene in the
original comic is much more different as Wayne s emotions, feelings, observations, the context of
actions, and his pain are much more apparent. They are portrayed through Wayne s first person
narration which is where most of the visual and mental content comes from in the scene, all of which
is almost inexistent during the scene in the animated version. Instead of slowly uncovering something
else Batman was feeling during that scene through his first person narration, all that was compressed
and saved for when Wayne is on the ground scolding himself. The original scene was filled with
emotional and narrative context and when compared to the brief scene from the movie, which still
makes its point, the comic simply blows the movie out of the

The Dictionary States That Fracking Is A Method Used For
The dictionary states that fracking is a method used for getting oil and gas from underground rocks by
injecting liquid into the rocks so that they can break apart (Merriam Webster). Fracking can be a
controversial topic in numerous people s eyes due to the side effects that coincide with this procedure.
Fracking has evolved over the years and made a comeback around 2010. Lately, the United States has
heard tremendous news regarding this procedure and the drawbacks from fracking natural gases and
oil. Fracking can be beneficial; sadly, the side effects greatly outweigh the benefits. The environmental
risks, pollution, and the overall risk factors prove to not worth the risk of fracking. Fracking is a ...

The environmental risks that accompany fracking are potentially hazardous. In order to frack,
thousands of acres of forests need destroyed to allow roadways the space they need to exist (Lampe
38). However, these roadways allow erosion to occur due to the lack of vegetation (Lampe 38). Along
with erosion, siltation occurs and sand, soil, and mud sink to the bottom of rivers, and ponds (Lampe
38). Therefore, the animals living in these habitats may migrate, or simply just die. Trees situated on
the acres of land for hundreds of years would have to be chopped down to make way for roadways. In
some cases, depending on where the oil reservoir is located, the state declares eminent domain on
houses and pays the landowners. Consequently, the houses will be destroyed and the oil reservoirs will
be fracked.
The greatest common concern on the subject today is water contamination. Individuals grew worried
that the chemicals used to gather these natural resources will seep into the water and contaminate the
United States. The water necessary to frack is gathered from rivers, lakes, ponds, and even aquifers.
This is then combined with chemicals and pumped into the ground. Fracking was exempted from the
Federal Safe Drinking Water Act and the chemicals used to frack are not tested frequently in our water
(Lampe 34). Bordering on 20 to 40 percent of the water used to frack rises back up to the surface and
is stored on site (Lampe 34). An

President James A. Garfield
President James A. Garfield was and still is one of the most respected presidents to serve in the White
House. Millard s book is split into parts, each part a significant chunk from Garfield s life. Millard
wrote of Garfield becoming president in the first two parts, then focuses more on his death in parts
three and four of her book, and I found what she wrote to be fascinating. The book switched between
telling the main events mainly from three people perspectives, which were Alexander G. Bell,
Garfield, and Charles Guiteau. I liked that Millard incorporated the perspectives from the men and
women that were instrumental in the downfall of Garfield. Her book is inspiring and very well written.
Garfield had served in Congress for seventeen years, but had absolutely no interest in being president.
When at the Republican National Convention, he was to give a speech to nominate a candidate for the
Republican nominee in the presidential race. However, the people voted for him and to his dismay,
Garfield became the nominee. As Garfield had no desire to be president, he did not campaign. He did

was sworn in March 4, 1881. Charles Guiteau, the man who assassinated Garfield was, in short, a
lunatic. A few days before Garfield s inauguration, he survived the ship wreck of the Stonington. He

Nanny In Hurston s Their Eyes Are Watching God
In the novel Their Eyes Are Watching God, the grandmother Nanny has a large impact on Janie the
main character s life. Nanny was a very tough motherly figure to a young motherless Janie. Nanny
became who she was because of her slave past and many other experiences and she uses her
background to mold her granddaughter. When Nanny was a slave she was repeatedly raped by her
white owner. Because of this Nanny was very protective towards Janie and insisted she would need
protection. Nanny says ...Run into mah cabin and made me let down mah hair for the last time. He
sorta wropped his hand in it, pulled mah big toe, lake he always done... (Hurston 20). Nanny s bad

African Americans And The American Culture Essay
The American culture is define to everyone in their own way. Everyone grows up differently in a
particular community that shares the same languages, values, rules, and customs. The American
Culture on that is consider to be a melting pot , because of all the different cultures that reside inside
of it making it so diverse. Race in this country has never been a great topic throughout history. African
Americans play a huge role into defining what our culture is as a whole, as well as being a part of
racism for the past 250 years.
African American s role in this country has been long and has never been easy. During the early years
of the United States, African Americans endure the hardship of slavery and had to deal with beatings,
harsh working conditions and constant yelling from their racist white owners. Even after the
abolishment of slavery, African Americans still endure another one hundred years of discrimination. A
perfect way to examine a pivotal time in American History of African Americans and the racism they
went through is seen in the movie The Help . The movie is set to take place in Mississippi during the
1950s 1960s, Skeeter is a southern society girl who returns from college determined to become a
writer, but turns her friends lives and a Mississippi town upside down when she decides to interview
the black women who have spent their lives taking care of prominent southern families. (The Help)
The movie was originally based on a book written by

Room six, provided insight into ethnography and its role in qualitative research. Deena Stewart Hitzke
tackled this room for our group and provided an excellent summary of ethnography, its characteristics,
and a summation of how it was used to examine a cycle of poverty in Harlem as presented by
Newman (2011). The reading provided a sound description of the types of ethnographies including
realist ethnography, and critical ethnography (Creswell, 2013), and a model for conducting
ethnographic case studies (Newman, 2011). On the surface, this method of research appears to be
straightforward approach to examining to taking on an anthropological study, however there are many
challenges as well. It became apparent through the reading and our team ... Show more content on

This room was assigned to Deon Logan, who provided an excellent summation of the assignment
through the use of a PowerPoint presentation. Deon s PowerPoint, provided a succinct summary of the
research conducted by Wolcott (1983) as described in, Schools and Inadequate Education: The life
History of a Sneaky Kid, and the role that case studies and interviewing can play in research.
McMillan (2012), describes a case study as an in depth analysis of a single experience or entity
(McMillan, 2012, p.279). Case studies represent a different form and approach than enthnographic,
phenomenological, grounded theory, or critical studies and yet each have a distinct role to play in
conducting quantitative research, based upon their intended purpose (McMillan, 2012). As I reflect on
Blythe s (1999) approach, it becomes clear that he uses many of the techniques outline in our reading
including field work, observations, interviewing, and document analysis(McMillan, 2012). When the
point of one s work is to contribute to their field, further the discussion of an idea, or influence other s
in a positive way (Hand, 2015, para.1) the researcher, their methodology, and the presentation fo

Karl Polanyi 1944
Karl Polanyi s (1944/1957) Societies and Economic Systems, The Great Transformation, provides a
historical background to the structure of markets before the modern era. It is important to first
differentiate between markets and the market economy in order to understand the factors that make up
economies. The market economy is a self regulating system of markets that is directed by market
prices and nothing but market prices (p. 43). Polanyi argues that having an economy of some form is
essential to the survival of a society, however, he notices that pervious societies successfully existed
with no evidence of market control (p. 43). Markets have existed since the Stone Age, but their role
was no more than incidental to economic life because it did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

44). Max Weber was one of the first contemporary historians to reject the idea that primeval
economies provide no significance to modern economy, he emphasizes the changelessness of man as a
social being (Polanyi, 1944, p. 46). Polanyi (1944) explains that man s economy, as a rule, is
submerged in his social relationships meaning that individuals place their social standings, social
claims, and social assets at higher value, rather than economic motives/material goods (p. 46). In
primitive economies, production and distribution is enforced through the principles of reciprocity and
redistribution. Reciprocity is observed in families and kinship; this is explained through an example of
Trobriand Islanders of Western Melanesia culture (Polanyi, 1944, p. 47). This civilization uses a
matrilineal system; the male in the family is recognized for his good behaviour if he offers the best
crops to his sister and her family; however, if he fails, his reputation (which is extremely valuable) is
at risk and he will not earn material benefits in exchange (Polanyi, 1944, p.

Iceberg Theory In Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants
Ernest Miller Hemingway is known for his unique style and theories of writing, especially the iceberg
theory. In the Death of the Afternoon, Hemingway says that The dignity of movement of an ice berg is
due to only one eighth of it being above water. A writer who omits things because he does not know
them only makes hollow places in his writing. (92) Simple words, vivid images, rich emotions and
deep thoughts are the four basic elements of the iceberg theory. Talk about how these stories illustrate
four elements of theory. In both short stories, Hemingway describes scenery and characters with
simple words directly to give readers a vivid image. Under this sketch, readers can know characters
emotion and get the theme through their imagination and analysis. First, Hemingway uses concise
words to describe characters and scenery to show a vivid image. Readers can image by themselves
through description to analyze characters emotions. In Hills Like White Elephants , Hemingway
describes characters little. This short story basically consists of a dialogue between a man and a
woman. In the short story, Hemingway barely provides the information of characters so that this short
story can be generalized in one sentence: a man and a woman are waiting for the train to Madrid on
the roadside. Because of the hot weather, they keep drinking beer, while discussing an operation.
Actually, in this novel, characters are always talking about this vital operation. This operation exists as

Small Scale Tummy Tuck
What is a small scale tummy tuck? Authoritatively called a halfway abdominoplasty, a smaller than
usual tummy tuck just expels undesirable skin and fat from the territory underneath the navel. This
kind of strategy has generously expanded in notoriety. A full tummy tuck, by complexity expels skin
and fat from the whole stomach region. A small scale tummy tuck is a decent choice if there is not a
considerable measure of overabundance skin to expel, and the patient is keen on minimizing a
protruding lower stomach area.
After pregnancy, the lower abs, or rectus abdominus muscles are extended and the laxity may remain,
stressing a lower stomach swell. The smaller than expected tummy tuck is a famous alternative for
ladies trying to come back

  • 2. The Factors And Roles Of The Stanford Prison Experiment Not everything goes according to plan. At Stanford University, an experiment was conducted by a psychology professor, infamously known as the Stanford prison experiment. The research was based and held in a prison setting with 24 recruited individuals who were then appointed as either inmates or guards, the operation was planned for two weeks as well as rules that were meant to be followed. What would be the fundamental purpose of experimenting with this, why did the head researcher want to conduct this experiment, how did the use affect the outcome? Why would someone run an experiment like this? The purpose was to understand the development of norms and the effects of roles, labels, and social expectations in a simulated prison environment (Zimbardo, 1971). With the exercise, the researchers were able to investigate how realistic the 24 individuals fit into their roles. With the participants playing into their roles it would hopefully demonstrate a specific analysis of the situation, as well as the difficulties and hardships between guards and prisoners within United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps (Zimbardo,1971). With the funding of the experiment coming from the U.S. Office of Naval Research, the participants were paid $15 per day. The money compensation gave the individuals a reason to take this experiment seriously because back at that time $15 would approximately be $90 in 2017. (Banks,1973). Foreclosure is an important issue in the United States and needs to be ended or decreased rapidly as soon as possible for the sake of America s economy. The foreclosure of homes has decreased the state of the economy, and rendered millions of Americans homeless. There are four key solutions that will stop foreclosures in the United States and able millions of American to keep their homes. The first solution is having banks lower their interest rates for all citizens who are in financial need of an interest rate deduction. The second solution is creating jobs that are able to sustain through an economic crisis. The disadvantages of having banks lower their interest rates are, people may feel less obligated to pay their mortgage payments on time because the interest rates are lower, despite the jobs that are available through people owning homes there still may not be enough jobs to go around causing there to be very little change in the amount of homes in foreclosure. Creating jobs that are able to sustain through an economic crisis will stop foreclosures because if citizens lose their jobs in an economic crisis they will be able to quickly find another job. This would be beneficial in the fight to end foreclosures because people would have the funds to pay their mortgage and any other financial obligations. How one would go about creating new jobs is by developing new technology, products, and services that would change the way people live their everyday life while helping them to save money. Hybrid vehicles are an example of a new technology that has currently kept and created new jobs for citizens in the U.S. Hybrid vehicles are perfect examples of a new technology that has changed the way people live their life while helping them to save money. For the past six months, I had been dreaming of finding a way to incorporate my food science background in an Occupational Therapy setting. Most people had doubted by ambition to combine the two fields, but I was confident that I could find a way for them to parallel. As I paced around the room, I recalled the details of the next client. He was a 6 year old foster child with severe food anxiety. Constantly transitioning to and from different foster homes, he had never lived in a stable environment. This may seem like an elementary task, but it for this little boy, building his bird s nest was the greatest accomplishment of his life. Each week we would work to overcome every fear he encountered from touching the bread to cracking the eggs and even tasting the final product. After several weeks of continuously working to build different bird s nest, he finally overcame his fear and took a bite of the egg and toast. While chewing, the little boy couldn t stop smiling from excitement. He told us that as soon as he got home he wanted to make his mom a bird s nest too. Little did he know, his foster mother had been making him eggs and toast every day and he had been refusing to eat it. The idea was to make the food as non threatening as possible and after weeks of carefully integrating, we were able to accomplish this task. Being apart of this little boy s progress is one of the most influential moments of my life. Seeing the little boy overcome his fears and being able to contribute to his success fueled my desire and passion to become an Occupational Therapist. I learned that even with a degree in Food Science, Occupational Therapy is so diverse that I can apply my food sensory background in my therapy sessions. Deadly force is a force that a person uses causing, or that a person knows or should know would create a substantial risk of causing, death or seriously bodily harm or injury. Perhaps the most important kind of discretion that police must exercise relates to the use of force. Although police officers are legally empowered to use force in certain situations, they may use only the level of force necessary to meet a lawful police objective (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The enormous public attention to allegations of excessive force has deflected attention from the most common forms of police behavior that lead to citizen complaints. Rudeness, discourtesy, or a failure to provide adequate service make up the majority of complaints in every jurisdiction (Walker, Mediating Citizen Complaints). The excessive use of force leads to deadly force. In my opinion, I think that if people would just cooperate with police officers instead of resisting arrest or etc. there wouldn t be such use of excessive force or even deadly force. In 2010, we saw a large increase in the number of deadly force encounters our officers were involved in. Historically, the city has had about six officer involved shootings per year. It has conjured up threat from India, and by constantly harping on its fear of India; Pakistan has tried to win the sympathy of the superpowers. • 34. Reflection Of Michelangelo In Pieta Be that as it may be, when applying this guidance to his works he used it as leverage in order to illustrate, a sensual response to this aesthetic. Michelangelo in Pieta helps us to see through his eyes, the struggle between Platonic ideals and carnal desire in his sculpture when focusing more detail on the attributions of a male phasic rather than that of females. Additionally, he is primarily known for his work depicting, mannerism, a deliberately stylized form of sophisticated art, in which the human body is idealized. For instance, we see this when we draw our attention towards the increasingly large size of The Virgin Mary compared to that of her son Christ who lays in her arms. Through this sculpture of the Pieta, Michelangelo tells the story of how Mary s son Christ died for his religious beliefs and really focuses on the relationship between Christ and his mother Mary. Coupled with the sculptures symbolic intent of sacrifice for faith through, the way the Virgin Mary s hand is extended outward and facing up is her saying this is the path to salvation and this is God s sacrifice for mankind, my sacrifice of my son that makes possible your redemption. Although this may be true we don t see much of this today. The scene does not have much action to it besides the rookie Batman almost throwing one of teens off a fire escape then saving him and fighting off the other two accomplices. After Batman defeats them and saves the other boy he lies on the ground for a bit and mentally scolds himself for being a lucky amateur . In order to frack, thousands of acres of forests need destroyed to allow roadways the space they need to exist (Lampe 38). However, these roadways allow erosion to occur due to the lack of vegetation (Lampe 38). Along with erosion, siltation occurs and sand, soil, and mud sink to the bottom of rivers, and ponds (Lampe 38). Therefore, the animals living in these habitats may migrate, or simply just die. Trees situated on the acres of land for hundreds of years would have to be chopped down to make way for roadways. In some cases, depending on where the oil reservoir is located, the state declares eminent domain on houses and pays the landowners. Consequently, the houses will be destroyed and the oil reservoirs will be fracked. The greatest common concern on the subject today is water contamination. Individuals grew worried that the chemicals used to gather these natural resources will seep into the water and contaminate the United States. The water necessary to frack is gathered from rivers, lakes, ponds, and even aquifers. This is then combined with chemicals and pumped into the ground. Deon s PowerPoint, provided a succinct summary of the research conducted by Wolcott (1983) as described in, Schools and Inadequate Education: The life History of a Sneaky Kid, and the role that case studies and interviewing can play in research. McMillan (2012), describes a case study as an in depth analysis of a single experience or entity (McMillan, 2012, p.279). Case studies represent a different form and approach than enthnographic, phenomenological, grounded theory, or critical studies and yet each have a distinct role to play in conducting quantitative research, based upon their intended purpose (McMillan, 2012). As I reflect on Blythe s (1999) approach, it becomes clear that he uses many of the techniques outline in our reading including field work, observations, interviewing, and document analysis(McMillan, 2012). When the point of one s work is to contribute to their field, further the discussion of an idea, or influence other s in a positive way (Hand, 2015, para.1) the researcher, their methodology, and the presentation fo results must reliable and credible (McMillan, ... • 41. Karl Polanyi 1944 Karl Polanyi s (1944/1957) Societies and Economic Systems, The Great Transformation, provides a historical background to the structure of markets before the modern era. It is important to first differentiate between markets and the market economy in order to understand the factors that make up economies. The market economy is a self regulating system of markets that is directed by market prices and nothing but market prices (p. 43). Polanyi argues that having an economy of some form is essential to the survival of a society, however, he notices that pervious societies successfully existed with no evidence of market control (p. 43). Markets have existed since the Stone Age, but their role was no more than incidental to economic life because it did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 44). Max Weber was one of the first contemporary historians to reject the idea that primeval economies provide no significance to modern economy, he emphasizes the changelessness of man as a social being (Polanyi, 1944, p. 46). Polanyi (1944) explains that man s economy, as a rule, is submerged in his social relationships meaning that individuals place their social standings, social claims, and social assets at higher value, rather than economic motives/material goods (p. 46). In primitive economies, production and distribution is enforced through the principles of reciprocity and redistribution. Reciprocity is observed in families and kinship; this is explained through an example of Trobriand Islanders of Western Melanesia culture (Polanyi, 1944, p. 47). This civilization uses a matrilineal system; the male in the family is recognized for his good behaviour if he offers the best crops to his sister and her family; however, if he fails, his reputation (which is extremely valuable) is at risk and he will not earn material benefits in exchange (Polanyi, 1944, p. ... In the Death of the Afternoon, Hemingway says that The dignity of movement of an ice berg is due to only one eighth of it being above water. A writer who omits things because he does not know them only makes hollow places in his writing. (92) Simple words, vivid images, rich emotions and deep thoughts are the four basic elements of the iceberg theory. Talk about how these stories illustrate four elements of theory. In both short stories, Hemingway describes scenery and characters with simple words directly to give readers a vivid image. Under this sketch, readers can know characters emotion and get the theme through their imagination and analysis. First, Hemingway uses concise words to describe characters and scenery to show a vivid image. Readers can image by themselves through description to analyze characters emotions. In Hills Like White Elephants , Hemingway describes characters little. This short story basically consists of a dialogue between a man and a woman. In the short story, Hemingway barely provides the information of characters so that this short story can be generalized in one sentence: a man and a woman are waiting for the train to Madrid on the roadside. Because of the hot weather, they keep drinking beer, while discussing an operation. Actually, in this novel, characters are always talking about this vital operation. This operation exists as ... • 43. Small Scale Tummy Tuck What is a small scale tummy tuck? Authoritatively called a halfway abdominoplasty, a smaller than usual tummy tuck just expels undesirable skin and fat from the territory underneath the navel. This kind of strategy has generously expanded in notoriety. A full tummy tuck, by complexity expels skin and fat from the whole stomach region. A small scale tummy tuck is a decent choice if there is not a considerable measure of overabundance skin to expel, and the patient is keen on minimizing a protruding lower stomach area. After pregnancy, the lower abs, or rectus abdominus muscles are extended and the laxity may remain, stressing a lower stomach swell.
