Assess Sociological Explanations of the Role of the Mass...
Assess sociological explanations of the role of the mass media in creating moral panics about crime
and deviance: A moral panic is the process of arousing social concern over an issue, this is often an
exaggerated over reaction by society to a perceived problem, which is usually driven or inspired by
the media. In this situation the reaction ends up amplifying the problem out of proportion to its real
seriousness. This creates anxiety amongst the general population, and this therefore puts pressure on
the agents of social control to deal with the problem, who then act accordingly to the group
responsible for the panic. There is a strong relationship between mass media and crime. On average,
around 30% of newspaper content is dedicated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates public anxiety and puts a great deal of pressure on the authorities to stamp down on the
problem group and its rebellious activities. New laws, increased policing and severe punishments are
often a result of the media s coverage of the issue. Although, a self fulfilling prophecy may develop as
the group resists the attempts that are put in place to control it, this leads to an increase in arrests and
more reporting. A deviancy amplification spiral therefore results, meaning that deviance could
increase as a result of the moral panic. An early moral panic involves Mods VS Rockers in 1964.
Events that were actually just a few scuffles between youths and vandalism were report in an
exaggerated way. The media portrayed this event as a Day of Terror and words such as Riots and
battle were used. Cohen suggests over reporting of this far outweighed the importance of the actual
event. He argues that the media tapped into a social consensus, that all the public shared concerns
about the general decline in morality of the young and the emergence of a strong youth culture.
Consequently the two groups were perceived in a stereotypical and distorted way. According to Furedi
(1994) moral panics arise when society fails to adapt to dramatic social change or modernization. For
example, the first moral panics about youth in the 1950s and 1960s coincided with youth becoming a
distinctive consumer group with values, norms of behaviour and

The Nurse Provider s Role As A Nurse Assistant
As healthcare providers, our role is to ensure the safety well being of our patients and advocate
appropriately with their best interest in mind. While it is important to be our patient s advocate, we
must also stay within the parameters that are set by our state governing boards. Although the 15 y/o is
a runaway, it is more important that we assess the well being of the teen mom, her infant, and maintain
a trusting patient provider relationship. I would ask the Nurse Manager to room the patient and baby,
and keep others out of the room until after I perform a full physical on both of them. The time in the
exam room will allow for further investigation of the current situation.

Haiti Earthquake Research Paper
The Haiti earthquake of 2010 was a 7.0Mw. The focus was 13 km deep close by Haiti s capitol Port
Au Prince. It was determined that this was a left lateral fault in association with many strike slip faults
in the surrounding areas. This earthquake was part of the Enriquillo Plantain Garden fault zone which
causes many strike slip fault earthquakes as it slides part the Caribian plate as well as the North
American plate.
The epicenter of this earthquake was relatively shallow at 13km, which caused there to be more
traumatic shaking. It was given a 9 on the Mercalli scale for the destructive shaking. Nearly two
weeks after this event, a Tsunami hit a little town called Petit Paradis stated to be a result of the Haiti
earthquake.

Comparison Of Superman Man Of Steel And Wonder Woman
In the movies, Superman Man of Steel and Wonder Woman, Clark Kent and Diana Prince have to
maintain a front of a normal life whilst hiding their true selves at some point throughout the films.
They both have superhuman powers and are destined to be great heroes; however, at the start of both
movies, they are not aware of their powers. Both Kent and Diana experience isolated origin stories.
For Kent, it proved to be difficult as he was growing up realizing who and what he really was. Kent s
Earth parents (snyder 2013) found him and raised him as their own, by the name of Clark. Kent is sent
to Earth by his birth mother and father: Jor El and Lara after his home planet, Krypton, is incinerated.

Wherever he seems to go he always found himself having to move on as he used his powers. Starting
at an oil rig that Kent was working at going up in flames, Kent saves all the workers. He then has to
move onto another city as he was spotted saving the rig. He doesn t trust what they will do to if they

reporter Lois Lane receives an assignment to investigate the discovery of a Kryptonian scout ship in
the Canadian Arctic. Disguised as a worker, Kent enters the ship and activates its central computer
using a key left by his birth father which was found in with Kent. This allows him to communicate
with an artificial intelligence modeled after his father. The ship explains that Kent was sent to Earth to
guide its people, and presents him with a Kryptonian uniform bearing his family s symbol. Lois

In addition to that, one of the most important side effects is that working children may experience
physical harm in a number of ways. These include an increased risk of accidents; children and young
people often work in unregulated environments where little attention is paid to safety. Working
children often experience violence in the workplace from adult staff and managers. Children and
young people working in the street are also at risk of physical violence from police officers and other
authority figures. Risk of illness from poor hygiene and exposure to bad weather can also be
witnessed. Therefore, child labor involves the following characteristics: it violates a nation s minimum
age laws, involves intolerable abuse, such as child slavery, child trafficking, debt bondage, forced
labor, or illicit activities, prevents children from going to school, and uses children to undermine labor
standards (December, 2007). Child labor can also be developmentally, emotionally, and physically
abusive. Child workers are more vulnerable than adult workers, leaving them at risk for exploitation,
dangerous and abusive conditions. In many parts of the world, it too often involves confinement,
bondage, and forced labor; it frequently involves dangerous and unhealthy working conditions.
Children work longer hours have lower pays than adults. Some children are sold into labor

Introduction Betty Wilson has decided to open a coffee shop and is considering various options
including franchising, sole proprietorship, joint venture, corporation and partnership. In addition to
determining the best legal entity to form, Betty has to decide if she will employ or partner with various
friends and family members. Finally, she plans to name the coffee shop The Gathering Place and must
determine if the name is available and a good choice. This paper will evaluate the pros and cons of
various business options, address the dilemma of whom to hire and determine if The Gathering Place
is a viable option for the name ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another limitation is that a franchisee is typically operating a trademarked business so the opportunity
to open a business under a name other than the franchise name is unlikely. For example, Betty would
not be able to purchase a Starbucks franchise but operate it as Gathering Place .
Business Formation Recommendation to Betty Based on the research of various business entities, the
most viable option for Betty is to form a LLC. With a LLC she can limit her liability and choose to
include a partner. It often takes years for new businesses to become thriving and profitable. A
franchise could place Betty in a position where she is obligated to buy unneeded inventory,
advertisement, etc. This type of financial obligation could limit the success of Betty s coffee shop.
Staffing the Coffee Shop Betty has received support from her husband to pursue this entrepreneurial
opportunity. There have also been friends and family who have expressed interest in potentially
partnering with or working for Betty. In successful business partnerships, the business partners visions
and belief systems align and are similar. If Betty wants a business partner, her husband, who is willing
to provide financial support but not management oversight, is the best option. Betty will need help
staffing the coffee shop and could consider hiring Alice and Erma as employees. She should be
cautious with Alice whose husband has already indicated he does not support his wife working.

Of all literature works read thus far, the Odyssey full fills the hero s journey in all aspects of the story.
Throughout this story there are vivid examples of how the hero s journey is outlined. From the
beginning of the hero s journey , which is the call to adventure Odysseus will begin his journey when
he makes the choice of going into battle in the Trojan War. There will also be specific events in this
epic story to display the hero s journey even further. Eventually the end of the journey will be revealed

Taking Circe advice Odysseus was able to get pass Scylla and Charybdis, but the fatality was that he
lost six of his men because Scylla ate them alive. The revelation or the abyss of the hero s journey can
be described in the Odyssey as Odysseus going to the underworld known as Hades. Odysseus went
there because Circe instructed him to do so. It was there Tiresias, which is a blind prophet tells
Odysseus that he will return home. He also tells him he will reunite with his wife and take command
of his kingdom from suitors. He then instructs Odysseus that he need to take a trip to a faraway land to
appease the god Poseidon. After revealing this prophecy he warns Odysseus not to touch the flocks of
the sun when he arrives in Thrinacia. If he does he will encounter much more hardship and suffering
and he will also lose more members of his crew Atonement which is a major part of the hero s journey
can best be described when Odysseus kills the suitors and the unfaithful servants. He then takes back
control of his palace. Atonement can also be viewed as Odysseus acknowledging those who have been
his faithful friends throughout his absence. This can be seen as him becoming master of both worlds.
The last part of the hero s journey is the return. In the Odyssey the return is when Odysseus gets to
reveal who he really is to his wife and father. Penelope did not want to believe the man before her was
really Odysseus.

Making Music With Different Online Programs
Making Music with Different Online Programs: High School student tries to become a Record

1. THE INTRODUCTION
I ve listened to a lot of music in my 514,561,058 seconds of life.
Of course the beginning first few years of my life did not consistent of heavy articulation and rhythm
interpretation, rather it was to see if I could sing back the ABC s or mumble the Arthur theme song to
my sister.
Most of the music influence I have was harvested back when I was eleven. I listened to a wide variety
of genres of music from pop, to rock, to rap, to country, to concert band music, even to Bollywood
music as that s what would be playing in my home as my mom cooked food for all of us.
The audio quality of the music always interested me. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I learned the correlation between blowing into an instrument and the sounds that come out.
This really changed my perception about music. I found myself enjoying the classical music that I
would be playing on my clarinet, but I always kept it in correlation with the new sounds and
technology music was sounding like. The new electronic based sounds created on the computer with
the melodies and movement like a classical piece set that a part for me. I think this was generated by
sounds from Kanye West and his albums such as Graduation, and 808s Heartbreaks, even the blending
of genres from Coldplay between pop tunes and classical music using implications such as organs,
bells, and synthesizers in doing so.
So what I ended up learning and continue to learn is I that like music really no matter what condition
it comes in. The examination of the work that takes place behind it demonstrates more than what
someone on the internet can tell me about how bad an album is or how weak the lyrics are. Of course
there s some analysis if a song is deemed as good or bad, but I always respect the work that is done in
order to produce music.
2. WHY I M DOING THIS?
I was given the opportunity to generate music on the computer. I wasn t necessary handed or forced
into doing this, but when the opportunity came, I decided to take it. My computer science teacher, the

The Jewish Community Of Today
The Jewish community of today believe that the Pharisees of Jesus time have transformed into a group
called rabbinic Judaism after the destruction of the temple in 70 C.E. They are believed to be the
Rabbi s of today, and are living proof, that they all were not against Jesus.
Today, all major branches of Judaism claim at least some affinity with rabbinic Judaism of centuries
gone by, and perceive Judaism as issuing not simply from the Hebrew Bible but also from the
interpretation of those Scriptures by the Pharisees and their successors, the rabbis (Cook, M. J. p.
441).
With this in mind, it is believed that we can get a better understanding of the Pharisees and Scribes of
when Jesus walked the earth. By using the Gospels and the rabbinic writings one could get a clear
picture of this group according to Dr. Cook. There is one account in the Gospel of John were one
Pharisee questions Jesus and is trying to understand who Jesus is and what message is he bringing
them.
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus
by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do
these signs that you do unless God is with him (John 3:1 2).
Nicodemus mentions that he is not the only one, and must mean that other Pharisees and Scribes did
believe that Jesus was from God. They most likely thought Him to be a prophet and not the Messiah
because he did not come and rescue them from their captures.

Between Shades Of Grey Analysis
How Does My Identity Affect My Reading Experience? Identity affects me as a reader of literature
because I am female. Being female affects me as a reader because of the emotions I feel when reading
things. One could feel the way I do when reading, but not all females feel the way I do about certain
events in books, someone may not feel anything when they read literature. In Between Shades of Grey
by Ruta Sepetys, my identity affects me when the story states, Lina, she said, reaching out to hold me
back. It was too late. I had already seen. My prince had his arm around a girl with red hair. They were
cozy, laughing, sharing an ice cream cone. My stomach plunged and twisted. (162 Sepetys) With this
example, me being female affects my identity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think you look lovely, said Mother, stepping back to admire the dress. (...) Your mother has excellent
taste in dresses, said the tailor. He was right. The dress was beautiful. The soft grey color made my
eyes stand out. (110 111 Sepetys). This example affects me as a reader because my mom s opinion on
a dress I like really matters to me, and if we both like the dress it is a plus for us. I can relate to Lina
because she is happy with her mother and her purchase. In my other book, Every Day by David
Levithan, an example of my identity being affected by literature is when the story states, Rhiannon
looks skeptical. Maybe if you were a petite cheerleader again. But I m not sure if you fully realize this
you re a big, threatening dude today. My mother s voice is very loud and clear in my head: No dark
corners. (111 113 Levithan ). This example goes with my identity of being female because Rhiannon
is not scared of A, but of the person s body that A is in. From personal experience, I can relate to
Rhiannon s fear of the guy s body and also her mother s warning to stay away from dark corners
because I

The Importance Of High School Student Athletes
Although some may believe that high school student athletes who do poorly in their academic courses
should still be able to participate in athletic programs, I do not agree. It allows students who are
capable of performing well in the classroom environment to feel as if it is not necessary to do so, for
most athletes, high school sports will be as far as they will go, and furthermore the idea that sports are
an extra curricular rather than a privilege has been lost.
The stereotype that all athletes, specifically football players and cheerleaders, are all dumb jocks, is a
very popular belief. However, this is of course not true for everyone, but some of these athletes may
use this as an excuse to under preform since they believe that less is expected of them to begin with. In
most cases, for any student, the amount of effort you put in will be what you receive back. If teachers
in school cut slack for athletes just so the star player is able to play Friday nights, then students will
never feel like they need to try because their grades are just handed to them. Athletes are expected to
give 110% on the field or court, so why wouldn t the same be expected inside the classroom? While
people could argue that the player is an important aspect to the team, then it should be enforced for
them to pass on their own with, for example, 70 s and above. With less expected of them, they will
lose the opportunity of learning the value of having a strong work ethic. Additionally, when their
coaches double as their core class teachers, rules that are set in place for no pass, no play are bound to
be broken. Breaking these rules only hurts the students in the long run.
For most of these athletes, high school sports will be the finish line. But, if all of their time is spent
focusing on sports rather than academics, when the time is up and reality sets in, they are not going to
be prepared. By coaches, teachers or even principals allowing these athletes to breeze by without
applying themselves or working hard, it is almost equivalent to setting them up for failure. So much
time will go by wasting away on something that is fun for four short years while they could be setting
out to achieve bigger and better things.

Evaluating GE s Organizational Culture
Organizational Culture PAGE 10
Reading an Organization s Culture: General Electric (GE)
Introduction
Every business has its own set of values and beliefs that make up an organizational culture that is
unique to each specific business. _Organizational Culture_ is a complex set of basic underlying
assumptions and deeply held beliefs shared by all members of the group that operate at a preconscious
level and drive in important ways the behavior of individuals in the organizational context (Strategy
Glossary, 2006). GE s organizational culture is considered one of high ethical standard in the
corporate world. According to The Age of Ethics (2007) _GE now has one of the best ethics

Robbins, S. (2005) describes six variables that are routinely evident in customer responsive cultures
like GE.
Type of Employees: outgoing and friendly
Low Formalization: freedom to meet changing customer service requirements
Extension of Low Formalization: widespread use of empowerment i.e. decision discretion to do what
is necessary to please the customer.
Good Listening Skills: listen to and understand messages sent by the customer
Role Clarity: Service employees act as _boundary spanners_ between the organization and its
customers
Organizational Citizenship Behavior: employees are conscience of customers needs and go above and
beyond the call of duty to satisfy a customer s needs
GE has been able to build such a strong and loyal customer base by meeting each of the six variables
described by Robbins. Variable one, type of employee, is met through GE s efforts to provide a diverse
work environment. In fact, GE was named among the top 40 best companies for diversity by Black
Enterprise Magazine (Employees, 2007). Variables two and three, low formalization and extension of
low formalization, is met through GE s efforts to provide employees the freedom to become closer to
their customers while finding new operational efficiencies and ways to work toward customer service
(Leadership, 2007). Variable four, good listening skills, is

Analysis Of The Film Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes
The movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a fascinating science fiction film that not only exposes the
fault of the human mind, but also demonstrates a completely original structure and a unique point of
view on an apocalyptic type film. The movie is based around a young scientist, Will Rodman, whom
is in pursuit to find a cure for Alzheimer s in hopes to cure his very sick father (Charles Rodman). He
works in a science laboratory where their main test subjects are apes. When the preliminary tests go
sour and one ape in the test center lashes out at another scientist causing chaos throughout the entire
lab, all but one of the apes were euthanized. The ape that did not get killed was rescued by Will, and
named Caesar. Will notices that Caesar is unusually smart, even for an ape, that is when he discovers
that the effects of the medicine that was given to Caesar s mother (ALZ 112) had been passed on to
Caesar himself. Will, who had been sitting by without hope, watching his father get more, and more
ill, decides to go back to the lab and retrieve some of the ALZ 112. He hopes that he can begin to treat
his father with the medicine and see results, like the ones he had witnessed in Caesar. To his wishes,
he saw just that, his father had regained almost full health. It was almost as if his Alzheimer s had just
disappeared. Unfortunately, the results were short lived. Determined, Will returns to the lab to help

School Uniforms Essay
In this generation fashion is the most influential and important among teens. People have their own
fashion way of styles. In another side s, school uniforms are old fashion and it s not the style of the
students. School uniform is one of the top issues for parents and schools. People are questioning
whether it s really necessary or not. Some school requires school uniform while some others don t
require. Some parents agree and some disagree the ideas of school uniforms. It is the main topic
school are facing. Proponents argue students should wear uniforms while opponents, argue students
don t need to wear a uniform. Students who wear uniforms are likely to attend school than others.
President Clinton referenced the benefits of school uniforms in several speeches, including his 1996
State of the Union address in which he said, if it means that teenagers will stop killing each other over
designer jackets, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear uniforms (
School Uniforms ). Students could be judgmental due to the clothing people wear. It s benefited to
wear uniforms for students. As well as, more students are comfortable to study at school if they wore
uniforms for the reason of, people not being able to humiliate them. They are likely to have better
attendance and less violence at school. Every parent want their kids to attend school daily and not

Barriers Of Oligopoly
2. Economic Theory
2.1 Oligopoly
Oligopoly is a market structure in which a few firms dominate the market (Jocelyn Blink Ian Dorton,
2012). The market may have a large number of firms or just a few, but the important idea is that the
industry s output is shared by a small number of firms. It is possible for oligopolistic industries to
differ, in the sense that some industries would produce the same kind of products, where the product is
practically the same and only the companies name is different. On the other hand, there are also
industries that produce completely different product and also ones that produce products that are only
a bit different from each other, but these firms do tend to spend most of their budgets to advertise their
products (Jocelyn Blink Ian Dorton, 2012). There are a few main characterises of firms that operate as
oligopolies these include:
1. Interdependence
2. Strategy
3. Barriers to entry o Natural barriers o Artificial barriers

These obstacles are known as barriers to entry. There are generally two types of barriers to entry that

artificial barriers can be used belligerently to stop other firms from joining the market.
Natural Barriers to Entry:
Economies to Scale
Larger firms tend to have lower cost compared to smaller firms, due to the fact that they are able to
gain from economies of scale, but it is possible for larger firms to experience diseconomies of scale.
As firms increase their production scale they tend to lower their production cost and move to the long
run, this can be represented using the diagram

Eukaryotic Cells Research Paper
The dissimilarity between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells is quite apparent and diverse. One of the
major differences between the cells is their size. Prokaryotic cells usually range from 0.2 μm to 10 μm
while the size of eukaryotic cells range from 10 μm to 100 μm. Additionally, prokaryotic cells have no
nucleus and instead store DNA in a circular nucleoid that floats freely. Eukaryotic cells, on the other
hand, have a nucleus with a double membrane nuclear envelope. Many prokaryotes have cell walls
that are made of peptidoglycan (PTG) whereas the few eukaryotic cells that do possess cell walls lack
PTG. Although both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells both have plasma membranes, eukaryotic cells

One of the most prominent differences is the amount of peptidoglycan in the cell walls of both cells.
In gram positive cells, PTG is abundant and numerous, creating a thick layer, and in gram negative

absent and present in gram positive cells, providing rigidity to the cell wall. Gram positive cells have
no outer lipopolysaccharide membrane whereas the gram negative cells do giving the cells protection
against certain chemicals as well as structural integrity. Conclusively, the flagella in both gram
positive and gram negative cells have a different amount of rings in the basal body that anchor the
flagellum to the cell. In gram positive cells, there are two basal bodies and four basal bodies in the

The History Of Childhood Disadvantage By Veronica Strong Boag
Fostering A Nation Canada Confronts It s History of Childhood Disadvantage, written by Veronica
Strong Boag, discusses the history of child welfare in Canada. Strong Boag explains how there is a
dark side of Canada s response to the lives of children in private homes and institutions in Canada in
the 1900s. Her argument has been stated clearly on page 3, Fostering Nation? Explores the missteps
and detours of a century and more of child protection efforts by Canadians and their governments as
they confronted the specter if children judged neglected, abused, deficient, and delinquent.
Furthermore, her goal is to uncover her argument through first hand accounts from children at the time
and first parents and their kin, surrogate parents and those responsible for children not of their own.
This review will discuss Strong Boag s book in three parts, her clear concise layout, an excellent job
with organization her thoughts, and her passion behind her writing. Strong Boag s, Fostering A Nation,
deserves many praises for a well rounded book. Firstly, the book is very clear and to the point. This
allows the reader to grasp her points and opinions easily, the author is an excellent writer, and that she
has knowledge in the area being discussed. This can be seen very well in the introduction, where she
states what the seven chapters in her book will be discussing. More importantly, she states which

Medieval Weapons Essay
Medieval Weapons
Medieval Weapons were (are) very dangerous. They Can kill, puncture, wound, hurt, or anything else.
All weapons From the Middle Ages were looked upon as frightening and crucial Tools to kill. From a

weapons were used for siege and Defense against castles. Castles were the most integral part of the

Anyway used, it was a big dangerous Weapon. Medieval Warfare and Weaponry In the Middle Ages,
the nobility of many cultures had large fortifications built to house a small town as well as themselves.
These fortification were called castles, and they were so well defended that some historians have
called it the most formidable weapon of medieval warfare (Hull 1). As one can imagine, conquering
such a colossal structure cost much money, even more time, and many lives. There were three main
ways to infiltrate a castle; each no more common than the other two. The first way to conquer to castle
is known as the siege. In a siege, an army would bar passageways into the castle, and continue to
pound away at the castle s defenses until it was vulnerable to a final attack. In this form of assault, the
attacking party did not have to approach the castle, as was required in a storm, the second way to
attack a castle. In a siege, large projectiles from catapults often bombarded the ramparts of the castle.
Hunger, plague, or actual weapons such as Greek fire arrows killed off the defenders of the castle.
Greek fire was a mixture comprised of highly flammable substances that was agonizingly hot. Bits of
cloth were dipped into the Greek fire compound and wrapped it behind the head of an arrow, and then
lit on fire. Yet another common tactic in the siege was undermining. Undermining was the digging of
tunnels underneath towers. However, the purposes of such

A particular brain function that is affected throughout the music training would be the processes of
sound frequency. A study proved that even after 40 years of not playing a musical instrument, sounds
go through the brain much quicker than someone without musical training. This shows that the brain is
able to process sound much faster because the brain has been trained to pick out sounds, how to create
sound, and how to deeply critique sound. This study showed that when older people who haven t
picked up a musical instrument in over 40 years can be tested and be able to make out sounds much
faster than elders who never did play a musical instrument, because the brain is able to respond to
sound very quickly. Older people who took music lessons in childhood had a faster brain response to
speech, even if they had not played an instrument in decades, researchers found. This quote is stating
that older people to had musical training as a child could respond to sounds quickly even after decades
of not having the training compared to the older people who didn t have musical training and went
through the same test. This shows that even after 40 years, the brain is still able to process the sound

Today the war on drugs has made it difficult to determine what is legal and illegal. Depending on the

A Summary Of The Scarlett Letter And The Scarlet Letter
As humans, we all develop a sense of knowing the difference between acceptable and unacceptable.
Consequently, that could be a simple task, but society has illustrated the difference between right and
wrong is a blurred line. In society, some may claim that unplanned pregnancy is a dreadful situation.
Others may declare that unplanned pregnancy in the same scenario, is a gift and it s one s decision. In
the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and the film Easy A, written by Bert Royal and
directed by Will Gluck, in both stories incorporate the reflection of what defines a woman s identity
by how both characters are too sexually free. Hester Prynne, the main character in The Scarlet Letter,
found herself in a challenging situation after having her daughter named Pearl from the crime of
adultery. When Pearl was born, Hester is forced to deal with judgmental townspeople in front of her
daughter, including teaching her daughter how to respond to them. Conversely Olive in the film Easy
A idolizes Hester in The Scarlet Letter. Olive tells lies about her fake actions to draw attention to
herself. So she decides to completely change her clothing style to a more adult lingerie look. She also
a felt cut out of the A just like Hester on her clothing to symbolize adultery.
In the pieces of literature, the women are written to be the scapegoats of their respective communities
due to their choices in engaging in sexual interactions. In the novel The Scarlet Letter, Hester

via channels they understand because they are imbedded within that asset. Along those same lines a
liaison can potentially provide a direct military force to solve a problem when it is within their home
country. So instead of just providing intelligence support they could also provide operational support
as long as those lines of communication and understanding are in place. Potentially the most
beneficial advantage to cooperation is that of providing a viable cover to mask U.S. actions or
interests as local ones and concealing otherwise apparent U.S. behavior in foreign countries.
There are also disadvantages to foreign intelligence relationships and liaisons which the United States
must maintain a state of vigilance on (Rosenbach and Peritz, 2009). First the U.S. needs to be aware of
the potential for conflicting interests. Relationships with adversaries could potentially provide them
with sensitive information about interests, strategies, plans, or tactics critical to the U.S. This leads
into hostile collection and the fact that liaisons or foreign partners may attempt to leverage their status
in an effort to gain insight into United States intentions and or sources and methods. So as the U.S. is
collecting in a foreign partner s back yard this could tip them off to sensitive strategies being utilized.
Beyond those disadvantages there is the hurdle that different countries have different standards and
capabilities. An international partner may have less rigorous

Point Arena Mountain Beaver
The Point Arena mountain beaver (Aplodontia rufa nigra) is a federally listed endangered subspecies
that is restricted to the small area of Point Arena, in coastal Mendocino County, California (Zielinski,
et al., 2013). (See Figure 1). The Point Arena mountain beaver is a dark brown, medium sized
burrowing rodent with small ears and eyes, and long whiskers and claws (National Park Service
(NPS), n.d.). The subspecies is semi fossorial, spending most of its five to six year lifespan in
underground burrows (United States Fish Wildlife Service (USFWS), 2011). The burrows are
typically found on moist and steep north facing slopes or in well drained gullies; each burrow contains
separate chambers for food storage, nesting, and excrement (NPS, ... Show more content on

The subspecies was also listed as a highest priority Species of Special Concern by the State of
California (USFWS, 1998). There are many factors that play into why the Point Arena mountain
beaver is classified as endangered. In addition to their low reproductive rate, according to USFWS
(1998), the vulnerability of the mountain beaver results from two reasons: 1) few populations with
extremely limited distribution; and 2) the number of individual populations are low. Habitat loss and
fragmentation is another concern for the Point Arena mountain beaver, any disaster, natural or
manmade, has the potential to impact the subspecies (USFWS, 1998). These threats include,
elimination or degradation from land development, livestock grazing, transportation and utility
corridors, invasion of alien plant species, and timber harvest (USFWS, 1998). Additional threats to the
subspecies include, predation by feral animals and household pets, poisoning, human caused
disturbances, clumped and fragmented distribution, vulnerability to localized catastrophic events, like
fires, storms, landslides, flooding, prolonged drought, and/or disease, and most notably genetic
isolation and drift (USFWS,

She brings out a sluggish smile as her daughters rush up to greet her with their warm embraces,
reminding her of the happiness they constantly provide but also saddened by their questionable future.
Quietly, she sits down in front of her anxious spouse as he patiently awaits the news, sensing the

Many skeptics challenge the reasoning for investing so much money into helping so many other
countries when that money could instead help us improve internal affairs. After all, foreign aid
spending has increased to $50 billion a year today, which could be put towards funding education to
ensure that more kids go to college and possibly affecting the innovation of the future(Morris). Giving
more than you receive is nice, but when it involves a country s financial crisis, maybe it s best if Santa
cuts back some of this year s presents. And although the argument may be valid, lending out a helping
hand can create more allies than enemies to help us in return when we need it. In fact, foreign aid only
accounts for 0.5 percent of the federal budget (Stearn). Compared to all the other matters at hand that
the government is worrying about, the amount of spending put into aiding poorer countries is positive
in both a moral aspect and a political aspect. The federal budget deficit that we put so much trust in
having handled for us is not to be dismissed so easily. This isn t just about the future of our current
generation, but also our children s future. Our government fails to look back at history and see how
growth has improved our economy and made it flourish. Ultimately, what s at stake here if nothing is
done is our jobs, job benefits, our safety, and, overall, having a weak country whose currency is based
off of its own good name. By no means is having a high

The Catholic Faith and Its Postive Outlook Upon the Loss of One s Physical Presence on Earth
In the face of one of the biggest fears known to man death the Catholic faith provides a positive
outlook upon the loss of ones physical presence on earth. Through the life and death of Jesus Christ
(the hypostatic union of son and Father,) a Christocentric theology resolves the mystery of death
through faith and grace. Gods only Sons death grants a Catholic Christian with an answer to the why
of death, resulting in a realistic, yet hopeful attitude toward the loss of the physical being, while

A man made in the image of God who saved humanity through love and compassion. But these views
of Christ are also sharply contrasted with the historical Jesus, thus, through Borg s careful analysis of
the scriptures; he brings forth the concepts of a pre Easter Jesus and post Easter Christ.
Borg s attempt to research Jesus is a means to reveal His humanity, to bring forth the concept that He
was not always all good ; that He too had a temper, He too felt pain and sorrow, but at the same time,
He also had compassion and mercy. By doing so, through the careful analysis of scripture, Borg brings
Jesus reality closer to our world; demonstrating that Christ was just as flawed and human as us. This
culminates itself as the final revelation of Gods love, by attempting to save us through a human
example of pure love and compassion. Borg carefully reads into scripture as an oral tale that depicts
certain aspects of the Jesus of faith, but at the same time, brings forth the Jesus of history as a means
of placing this ancient faith in perspective. By doing so Borg proves the essence of the Catholic faith,
proving the atheistic idea of an illusionary faith, to be wrong. This analytical and educated revelation
of Jesus adds a new dimension to the Catholic religion, which brings us closer to our faith. The
Gospels introduce the life of Christ, bringing forth the man, the human being who shapes the Catholic

Saudi s In Bikinis Analysis
We as humans have always been fearful of the unknown, as well as what we do not comprehend. In
result of this, humanity has developed the tendency of antagonizing beliefs and concepts foreign to
one s own. This becomes problematic when exposed to an abnormal surrounding or idea. When
Christopher Columbus had voyaged across the ocean, people began to fear he and his crew would
plummet of the edge of the world. Despite being told otherwise, we let our own ignorance dictate our
definition of what is good and bad for us and others. This becomes apparent through written literature.
The article Saudi s in Bikinis, by Nicholas D. Kristof, perfectly represents the action of antagonizing
the misunderstood. It is undeniable that the United States and ... Show more content on

Companies Are Treating The Animals We Will Ultimately Consume
In America, our everyday lives tend to revolve around our food choices. The average consumer veers
towards the quick and easy food options. Without prior knowledge, an individual could be consuming
contaminated meat products that were produced on a factory farm. Since the 1960 s, factory farming
has accounted for over 99% of the meat sold in the United States (Zacharias, 2011). The move towards
large, factory farms saves meat industry millions of dollars a day. These farms pose a huge risk to
public health and environmental safety. Currently, four major companies produce 85% of all the beef
in the United States (Bernice, 2014). It is important to examine how these companies are treating the
animals we will ultimately consume. Knowing what these animals are fed, the conditions they are kept
in and the effect that these factory farms have on the environment is essential for our health. But are
there other options other than Big Ag corporations? Smaller, family owned farms might be the key to
better nutrition and a smaller, ecofriendly footprint. Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations
(CAFOs) are defined as agricultural operations where animals are kept and raised in confined
situations (Foundation). The EPA estimates that there are over 450,000 CAFOs in the United States
(Humane Society). These operations can hold over 100,000 chickens, 10,000 pigs or 1,000 cattle.
Factory farming is a relatively recent development in food production. The introduction of antibiotics

Analysis of Edmond Burke’s Speech Essay
Analysis of Edmond Burke s Speech on conciliation with America
Edmund Burke was an advocate of reason, order, and peace. Based on his comments in his speech he
believed that as families pass down their possessions to their children, the crown and its privileges
should also be passed down to the colonies. Although Burke was not a supporter of war but he did
have a fondness and empathy for the colonies. He felt that traditional ways of doing things should be
preserved and anything to the contrary was going against nature.

The greater number of the deputies sent to the congress were lawyers. But all who read, and most do

simple, and of a less mercurial cast, judge of an ill principle in government only by an actual
grievance; here they anticipate the evil, and judge of the pressure of the grievance by the badness of
the principle. They augur misgovernment at a distance; and snuff the approach of tyranny in every

these Intolerable Acts against them.
Burke wanted to include the colonists in Parliamentary proceedings and to recognize that the colonists
were English in spirit and mind if not body.
First, the people of the colonies are descendants of Englishmen. England, Sir, is a nation, which still I

your character was most predominant; and they took this bias and direction the moment they parted

Analysis Of Latinos And The American Dream By Linda Chavez
Opportunities in America are limited for minorities, yet even more so for the Hispanic population. The
American view on what Hispanic people are like are severely one sided due to the media often
portraying them as poor and as criminals. Discrimination has held the Hispanic community back from
advancing in society compared to other minorities. Hispanics and the American Dream, written by
Linda Chavez, lays out the internal issues that exist within the Hispanic community and how that
affects their progress in American society.
The Hispanic population in America has reached more than twenty one million and is constantly
growing, yet they continue to face constant discrimination and are widely perceived as the drugs of
society. (Chavez, Pg. 57) Chavez declares that Hispanic advocates focus more on the idea of their
community s suppression rather than highlight how Latinos contribute to American society and their
admirable efforts in reaching such feats. Research has shown that the words Hispanic or Latino
occurred in close connection with the word poverty in more than eighteen hundred stories found in
print media. (Chavez, Pg. 58) Out of all the Hispanic groups in America, Mexican Americans have the

make the same amount of money

Most of the world s coffee is bought by just a few countries, and most of the world s coffer market is

Just nine countries in the North import over 70% of the coffee on the world market.

Reasons For College Dropout
The amount of academic work is one of the major factors in dropouts. Unfortunately, students are
usually unprepared for the rigorous academic effort required for college. Some students get through
high school with little or no studying. Therefore, they will face the bitter truth of being completely
unprepared once they get to college. One of the underlying reasons for lack of preparation to college is
the fact that students at high schools are deprived from being challenged. Many students take classes
that do not push them to exceed college level bar. They take inconsiderable classes to avoid homework
and any thinking process required for that. When the students attend college, the difficulty of the
classes boggles them and their actual work performance decreases rapidly. The students sometimes
expect the professors to babysit them and excuse their missing work or an unattended test. However,
college professors expect students to read and learn on their own outside of class. If the students don t
this, their grades will decline. A semester of bad grades usually discourages some of the students and
ultimately causes them to quit college. Another reason for college dropout is excessive partying and
drug abuse. Freshman students sometimes get carried away with hanging out with friends and
partying. They forget to work on their projects or study for a test and eventually realize their grades
are slipping. Sooner or later, they start having too much fun and lose

  • 2. Assess Sociological Explanations of the Role of the Mass... Assess sociological explanations of the role of the mass media in creating moral panics about crime and deviance: A moral panic is the process of arousing social concern over an issue, this is often an exaggerated over reaction by society to a perceived problem, which is usually driven or inspired by the media. In this situation the reaction ends up amplifying the problem out of proportion to its real seriousness. This creates anxiety amongst the general population, and this therefore puts pressure on the agents of social control to deal with the problem, who then act accordingly to the group responsible for the panic. There is a strong relationship between mass media and crime. On average, around 30% of newspaper content is dedicated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This creates public anxiety and puts a great deal of pressure on the authorities to stamp down on the problem group and its rebellious activities. New laws, increased policing and severe punishments are often a result of the media s coverage of the issue. Although, a self fulfilling prophecy may develop as the group resists the attempts that are put in place to control it, this leads to an increase in arrests and more reporting. A deviancy amplification spiral therefore results, meaning that deviance could increase as a result of the moral panic. An early moral panic involves Mods VS Rockers in 1964. Events that were actually just a few scuffles between youths and vandalism were report in an exaggerated way. The media portrayed this event as a Day of Terror and words such as Riots and battle were used. Cohen suggests over reporting of this far outweighed the importance of the actual event. He argues that the media tapped into a social consensus, that all the public shared concerns about the general decline in morality of the young and the emergence of a strong youth culture. Consequently the two groups were perceived in a stereotypical and distorted way. According to Furedi (1994) moral panics arise when society fails to adapt to dramatic social change or modernization. For example, the first moral panics about youth in the 1950s and 1960s coincided with youth becoming a distinctive consumer group with values, norms of behaviour and ... While it is important to be our patient s advocate, we must also stay within the parameters that are set by our state governing boards. Although the 15 y/o is a runaway, it is more important that we assess the well being of the teen mom, her infant, and maintain a trusting patient provider relationship. I would ask the Nurse Manager to room the patient and baby, and keep others out of the room until after I perform a full physical on both of them. The time in the exam room will allow for further investigation of the current situation. According to Munyaradzi (2012), the principle of beneficence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In addition to that, one of the most important side effects is that working children may experience physical harm in a number of ways. These include an increased risk of accidents; children and young people often work in unregulated environments where little attention is paid to safety. Working children often experience violence in the workplace from adult staff and managers. Children and young people working in the street are also at risk of physical violence from police officers and other authority figures. Risk of illness from poor hygiene and exposure to bad weather can also be witnessed. Therefore, child labor involves the following characteristics: it violates a nation s minimum age laws, involves intolerable abuse, such as child slavery, child trafficking, debt bondage, forced labor, or illicit activities, prevents children from going to school, and uses children to undermine labor standards (December, 2007). Child labor can also be developmentally, emotionally, and physically abusive. Child workers are more vulnerable than adult workers, leaving them at risk for exploitation, dangerous and abusive conditions. In many parts of the world, it too often involves confinement, bondage, and forced labor; it frequently involves dangerous and unhealthy working conditions. • 7. The Gathering Place Case Running Head: Case Study #4 Case Study #4 Initial Thread Jean S. Hamby BUSI 561 Liberty University Introduction Betty Wilson has decided to open a coffee shop and is considering various options including franchising, sole proprietorship, joint venture, corporation and partnership. In addition to determining the best legal entity to form, Betty has to decide if she will employ or partner with various friends and family members. Finally, she plans to name the coffee shop The Gathering Place and must determine if the name is available and a good choice. This paper will evaluate the pros and cons of various business options, address the dilemma of whom to hire and determine if The Gathering Place is a viable option for the name ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another limitation is that a franchisee is typically operating a trademarked business so the opportunity to open a business under a name other than the franchise name is unlikely. For example, Betty would not be able to purchase a Starbucks franchise but operate it as Gathering Place . Business Formation Recommendation to Betty Based on the research of various business entities, the most viable option for Betty is to form a LLC. With a LLC she can limit her liability and choose to include a partner. It often takes years for new businesses to become thriving and profitable. A franchise could place Betty in a position where she is obligated to buy unneeded inventory, advertisement, etc. This type of financial obligation could limit the success of Betty s coffee shop. Staffing the Coffee Shop Betty has received support from her husband to pursue this entrepreneurial opportunity. There have also been friends and family who have expressed interest in potentially partnering with or working for Betty. In successful business partnerships, the business partners visions and belief systems align and are similar. If Betty wants a business partner, her husband, who is willing to provide financial support but not management oversight, is the best option. Betty will need help staffing the coffee shop and could consider hiring Alice and Erma as employees. She should be cautious with Alice whose husband has already indicated he does not support his wife working. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

THE INTRODUCTION I ve listened to a lot of music in my 514,561,058 seconds of life. Of course the beginning first few years of my life did not consistent of heavy articulation and rhythm interpretation, rather it was to see if I could sing back the ABC s or mumble the Arthur theme song to my sister. Most of the music influence I have was harvested back when I was eleven. I listened to a wide variety of genres of music from pop, to rock, to rap, to country, to concert band music, even to Bollywood music as that s what would be playing in my home as my mom cooked food for all of us. The audio quality of the music always interested me. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I learned the correlation between blowing into an instrument and the sounds that come out. This really changed my perception about music. I found myself enjoying the classical music that I would be playing on my clarinet, but I always kept it in correlation with the new sounds and technology music was sounding like. The new electronic based sounds created on the computer with the melodies and movement like a classical piece set that a part for me. I think this was generated by sounds from Kanye West and his albums such as Graduation, and 808s Heartbreaks, even the blending of genres from Coldplay between pop tunes and classical music using implications such as organs, bells, and synthesizers in doing so. So what I ended up learning and continue to learn is I that like music really no matter what condition it comes in. The examination of the work that takes place behind it demonstrates more than what someone on the internet can tell me about how bad an album is or how weak the lyrics are. Of course there s some analysis if a song is deemed as good or bad, but I always respect the work that is done in order to produce music. 2. WHY I M DOING THIS? • 10. The Jewish Community Of Today The Jewish community of today believe that the Pharisees of Jesus time have transformed into a group called rabbinic Judaism after the destruction of the temple in 70 C.E. They are believed to be the Rabbi s of today, and are living proof, that they all were not against Jesus. Today, all major branches of Judaism claim at least some affinity with rabbinic Judaism of centuries gone by, and perceive Judaism as issuing not simply from the Hebrew Bible but also from the interpretation of those Scriptures by the Pharisees and their successors, the rabbis (Cook, M. J. p. 441). With this in mind, it is believed that we can get a better understanding of the Pharisees and Scribes of when Jesus walked the earth. By using the Gospels and the rabbinic writings one could get a clear picture of this group according to Dr. Cook. There is one account in the Gospel of John were one Pharisee questions Jesus and is trying to understand who Jesus is and what message is he bringing them. Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him (John 3:1 2). Being female affects me as a reader because of the emotions I feel when reading things. One could feel the way I do when reading, but not all females feel the way I do about certain events in books, someone may not feel anything when they read literature. In Between Shades of Grey by Ruta Sepetys, my identity affects me when the story states, Lina, she said, reaching out to hold me back. It was too late. I had already seen. • 12. The Importance Of High School Student Athletes Although some may believe that high school student athletes who do poorly in their academic courses should still be able to participate in athletic programs, I do not agree. It allows students who are capable of performing well in the classroom environment to feel as if it is not necessary to do so, for most athletes, high school sports will be as far as they will go, and furthermore the idea that sports are an extra curricular rather than a privilege has been lost. The stereotype that all athletes, specifically football players and cheerleaders, are all dumb jocks, is a very popular belief. However, this is of course not true for everyone, but some of these athletes may use this as an excuse to under preform since they believe that less is expected of them to begin with. In most cases, for any student, the amount of effort you put in will be what you receive back. If teachers in school cut slack for athletes just so the star player is able to play Friday nights, then students will never feel like they need to try because their grades are just handed to them. Athletes are expected to give 110% on the field or court, so why wouldn t the same be expected inside the classroom? While people could argue that the player is an important aspect to the team, then it should be enforced for them to pass on their own with, for example, 70 s and above. With less expected of them, they will lose the opportunity of learning the value of having a strong work ethic. Additionally, when their coaches double as their core class teachers, rules that are set in place for no pass, no play are bound to be broken. Breaking these rules only hurts the students in the long run. For most of these athletes, high school sports will be the finish line. But, if all of their time is spent focusing on sports rather than academics, when the time is up and reality sets in, they are not going to be prepared. By coaches, teachers or even principals allowing these athletes to breeze by without applying themselves or working hard, it is almost equivalent to setting them up for failure. So much time will go by wasting away on something that is fun for four short years while they could be setting out to achieve bigger and better things. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The market may have a large number of firms or just a few, but the important idea is that the industry s output is shared by a small number of firms. It is possible for oligopolistic industries to differ, in the sense that some industries would produce the same kind of products, where the product is practically the same and only the companies name is different. On the other hand, there are also industries that produce completely different product and also ones that produce products that are only a bit different from each other, but these firms do tend to spend most of their budgets to advertise their products (Jocelyn Blink Ian Dorton, 2012). Medieval Warfare and Weaponry In the Middle Ages, the nobility of many cultures had large fortifications built to house a small town as well as themselves. These fortification were called castles, and they were so well defended that some historians have called it the most formidable weapon of medieval warfare (Hull 1). As one can imagine, conquering such a colossal structure cost much money, even more time, and many lives. There were three main ways to infiltrate a castle; each no more common than the other two. The first way to conquer to castle is known as the siege. In a siege, an army would bar passageways into the castle, and continue to pound away at the castle s defenses until it was vulnerable to a final attack. In this form of assault, the attacking party did not have to approach the castle, as was required in a storm, the second way to attack a castle. In a siege, large projectiles from catapults often bombarded the ramparts of the castle. Hunger, plague, or actual weapons such as Greek fire arrows killed off the defenders of the castle. Greek fire was a mixture comprised of highly flammable substances that was agonizingly hot. Along those same lines a liaison can potentially provide a direct military force to solve a problem when it is within their home country. So instead of just providing intelligence support they could also provide operational support as long as those lines of communication and understanding are in place. Potentially the most beneficial advantage to cooperation is that of providing a viable cover to mask U.S. actions or interests as local ones and concealing otherwise apparent U.S. behavior in foreign countries. There are also disadvantages to foreign intelligence relationships and liaisons which the United States must maintain a state of vigilance on (Rosenbach and Peritz, 2009). First the U.S. needs to be aware of the potential for conflicting interests. Relationships with adversaries could potentially provide them with sensitive information about interests, strategies, plans, or tactics critical to the U.S. This leads into hostile collection and the fact that liaisons or foreign partners may attempt to leverage their status in an effort to gain insight into United States intentions and or sources and methods. The American view on what Hispanic people are like are severely one sided due to the media often portraying them as poor and as criminals. Discrimination has held the Hispanic community back from advancing in society compared to other minorities. Hispanics and the American Dream, written by Linda Chavez, lays out the internal issues that exist within the Hispanic community and how that affects their progress in American society. The Hispanic population in America has reached more than twenty one million and is constantly growing, yet they continue to face constant discrimination and are widely perceived as the drugs of society. (Chavez, Pg. 57) Chavez declares that Hispanic advocates focus more on the idea of their community s suppression rather than highlight how Latinos contribute to American society and their admirable efforts in reaching such feats. Research has shown that the words Hispanic or Latino occurred in close connection with the word poverty in more than eighteen hundred stories found in print media. • 35. Reasons For College Dropout The amount of academic work is one of the major factors in dropouts. Unfortunately, students are usually unprepared for the rigorous academic effort required for college. Some students get through high school with little or no studying. Therefore, they will face the bitter truth of being completely unprepared once they get to college. One of the underlying reasons for lack of preparation to college is the fact that students at high schools are deprived from being challenged. Many students take classes that do not push them to exceed college level bar. They take inconsiderable classes to avoid homework and any thinking process required for that. When the students attend college, the difficulty of the classes boggles them and their actual work performance decreases rapidly. The students sometimes expect the professors to babysit them and excuse their missing work or an unattended test. However, college professors expect students to read and learn on their own outside of class. If the students don t this, their grades will decline. A semester of bad grades usually discourages some of the students and ultimately causes them to quit college. Another reason for college dropout is excessive partying and drug abuse. Freshman students sometimes get carried away with hanging out with friends and partying. They forget to work on their projects or study for a test and eventually realize their grades are slipping. Sooner or later, they start having too much fun and lose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
