Ap English Literature Essay
Literature has always been a window into life during a particular time frame. Fiction and nonfiction
alike will give its readers a glimpse of the lives of those of varying social statuses, along with the
culture and politics of the time. This remains true regardless of the period in which a work was
written. From the Romantic era to the 20th Century, literature has been skilled at providing
understanding of others and their lives. For example, from the Romantic period works like the two
William Wordsworth poems I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud and The World is Too Much with Us,
along with A Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns. The Victorian era has its own share of works that reflect
the time when it was written, including Lewis Carroll s The Walrus ... Show more content on

Language can mean a number of things in regards to literature, it can refer to the slang that is used, the
way that the author phrased a sentence, or even the dialect that the work is written in. Authors like
Robert Burns, Gerard Manley Hopkins, and W.H. Auden in particular make use of language in the first
two ways mentioned as a way of reflecting their respective time periods. Robert Burn s A Red, Red
Rose is a poem that makes perfect use of language in order to display the thoughts of the author,
which in turn displays the general thoughts of the time as well as his own location. A Red, Red Rose is
a rather romantic poem, and considering the era in which it was written makes it fairly obvious that
other authors of the time were discussing similar subjects. When discussing the beauty of his love,
Burn s use of language which talks of how, [...] fair art thou, my bonnie lass [...] sort of automatically
puts the reader in a mindset that can better understand his life (Burns). Couple the more archaic way
of writing with the dialect of the author, which is put on display in his goodbyes to his love in the
lines, [...] And fare thee weel, my only luve! And fare thee weel awhile! And I will come again, my
luve [...] (Burns). God s Grandeur by Gerard Manley Hopkins also use language in order to further the
ideas of his time. While the Victorian period was one of great scientific advancements, it was also a
time when Christianity was a very large part of people s lives. Hopkins uses solid, imposing words in
order to enforce the concept of God s strength, as seen early on in his poem, where he states that, [...]
The world is charged with the grandeur of God. It will flame out, like shining from shook foil; It
gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil [...] (Hopkins). The author furthers the power of God by
downplaying the strengths of mankind,

The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas
The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas Samantha Clements ENG 125 February 18, 2013 The
Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas is to some people, a very disturbing story; but, it is nothing
short of the truth when speaking of today s society. Can a city really exist where there is nothing but
happiness forevermore? No, it cannot, not without consequences; as shown in Le Guin s story. Good
vs. Evil is a definite underlying theme in The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas. The goodness
and happiness in the city of Omelas comes only by the misery and sacrifice of an innocent child. Good
cannot exist without evil. In this story, the child helps the people of Omelas measure their own
happiness; because if the child in the cellar was not so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Relationship Between Machiavelli And Machiavelli s...
The topic of proper governing has been well discussed throughout history by several
unique voices. While some philosophers have similar opinions on what it takes to be an effective
leader, such as intelligence and worldliness, there are many that disagree on traits they find beneficial.
The reasons for these disagreements are vast but one of the crucial factors are the societies and
historical eras these authors were nurtured within. Through their own experiences with government
and turmoil, philosophers are able to give their critiques on government and human nature as a whole.
Socrates and Machiavelli, both philosophers in what it means to be a proper leader and the role of the
people within a society, share contrasting views. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through his writings in The Prince, we are able to create the image of an ideal Machiavellian prince
and principle. This image of the ideal principle can then be applied to Socrates and his views on how
the govern should function in The Apology. Machiavelli and Socrates do have similar philosophies but
there are also areas where they are likely to disagree. While Socrates would approve of some aspects
of the ideal prince and the political system he would lead, he would overall not approve of a
Machiavellian principle as it encourages aggressive behavior that contradicts what he considers to be
just.
There is an aspect that both Socrates and Machiavelli both speak about in detail within their works
that provide a positive connection between them. Machiavelli writes about the mindset of the people
in his criticism of the role of religion in the government. In The Prince, Machiavelli does mention
principles that have the church as a core part of the prince s legitimacy, which he refers to as
Ecclesiastical Principles (The Prince, CH. XI). Machiavelli does confess the the people within the
principles are happier, but this is not what he values. He believes that an ideal prince should not
encourage religious practices, especially in relation to his role as the ruler. To Machiavelli, he believes
that the prince should put loyalty to the state over that of a higher power. He writes which men are
esteemed, being often forced, in order to maintain the state, to act

Maycomb Great Depression
There was no hurry, for there was nowhere to go, nothing to buy, and no money to buy it with, nothing
to see outside the boundaries of Maycomb County (Lee 5). Maycomb County was impacted by the
Great Depression, mostly because it was a small community based town. In Harper Lee s, To Kill a
Mockingbird, the Great Depression played a considerable role in the setting, theme, and characters.
The Great Depression seemed to engulf smaller cities much faster than it did the bigger cities. The
people of Maycomb spent their days standing in town imploring for goods that they could no longer
afford. According to the author, they begin having sit down strikes in the big cities of Alabama; also
the bread lines were forming throughout the day (Lee 116). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Some people through the story left the town with hopes of finding a better life elsewhere. According
to Lee, John Finch, Atticus brother, commuted to a bigger city because cotton could not be grown in
Maycomb (Lee 5). When saying this, Harper Lee is indicating that people were not in sustainable
conditions while in Maycomb. The farm land was almost impossible for growing anything. Therefore,
the people that stayed in Maycomb faced challenging times. The people are very home oriented;
whereas they are willing to face tragedies just to stay in their home town with the people that they
love. This aspect of the book is very important. The people of Maycomb are so close. Maycomb
County came together when the whole world seemed to come to a halt during the Depression. The
setting, theme, and characters were most affected by the Great Depression. The small town of
Maycomb stood together through the worst of times. Throughout the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird,
the reader is allowed to form a connection with the characters through all of the trials and tribulations
shown throughout the novel. The examples of the Great Depression that Lee uses throughout the story
create a strong visual of what it might have been like during the

The Pro s and Con s of Student Preaching
Introduction
The Pro s and Con s of a student preacher can be very nerve wrecking because of the responsibility of
following through with every I dotted and every T crossed. When writing, preaching and teaching the
Word of God it can become very intimidating to anyone who desires to follow in a league of skillful
preachers, pastors and teachers. How can you be original when it appears all of the apparent
techniques have been discovered? Speaking of technique, how should a student preacher apply
everything they ever learned from a Bible seminary? These are questions for many students of the
Bible. How do I represent God and still reach the lost souls of our generation and at the same time
feed the Believers of Christ so they won t starve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through this survey they found the small church pastor was not as influence by books because their
concern was more focused on discipleship. Whereas the pastor of a larger church was more apt to read
more books to get incite on how to continue to grow his church and meet the needs of the people. Also
the survey revealed the different types of influence came from authors, their fellow colleagues and
other theology influences. Also, they discovered pastors of a Pentecostal churches were more
conservative in their approaches and would not use the influence of outside sources. The Word of God
talks about the mature saint and the survey also discovered that the age of a pastor will have influence
of what is preached based on experience. Either way modern day preaching has many factors of how a
sermon is structured and shared among congregations at every main service. When you consider how
today s modern preacher or teacher compares to the original believers of Christ there is a shortage in
comparison. There could be one factor missing and it s just purely believing in the power of God s
word being enough for the people to feed on and live on until eternity. His word never changes it is the
bread of life that will feed any intellectual of our time.

How Does Prospero Meet Caliban
The first mention of Caliban occurs before we meet the character, when Prospero tells Miranda the
story of the damned witch Sycorax, a blue eyed hag was hither brought with child (1.2.269). This hag
s child is Caliban, who Prospero highlights was not honoured with / a human shape. (1.2.283 4). Our
primary knowledge of Caliban other than who his mother is is that he is subhuman, which instantly
labels him as inferior. Having a human shape is an honor that Caliban was not given due to his
parentage. The reader is automatically set up to agree with this opinion and it is uncontested
throughout the play. When we do meet Caliban several lines later, he is addressed by Prospero as slave
(1.2.345) and by Miranda as a savage (1.2.355). As a method of constantly and continually demeaning
him, Caliban is never called by his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prospero and Miranda are both civilized, like the Europeans Montaigne refers to. Caliban, on the other
hand, is more akin to the cannibals whose life Montaigne writes about and lauds. In the essay,
Montaigne argues in favor of the cannibal way of life by asserting its proximity to nature, and nature s
inherent superiority. He compares the cannibals to wild fruit and the Europeans to those that we have
changed artificially and led astray from the common order that we should rather call wild . He states
that the laws of nature still rule [the cannibals] very little corrupted by ours; and they are in such a
state of purity that I am sometimes vexed that they were unknown earlier (153). He hails purity as part
of nature s superiority and the ruling of natural laws as supreme. This brings us back to The Tempest,
where natural laws so clearly rule Caliban. It is no coincidence that the name Caliban is almost an
anagram for the word

Essay On Emily Davison
Civil disobedience is the act of going against the law and refusal to do what the government says. It is
very common in many countries all over the world. Henry David Thoreau wrote a book on civil
disobedience which is very good. He speaks on a lot of things that are wrong with the government and
the citizens. It was first published in 1889. There are so many acts of civil disobedience that are
interesting but this one catches a lot of people s eyes. It is the case of Emily Davison. She fought for
the rights of women to vote in the United Kingdom. Davison went to jail on many occasions. Emily
had a sad but interesting death that impacted a lot of people. Emily Davison was born on October 11,
1872 in Blackheath, London. Her parents were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She got arrested plenty of more times. July 30, 1909 she was arrested for two months in prison for
obstruction. On September 4, 1909 she was arrested for two months for stone throwing at White City,
Manchester. October 20, 1909 she was in jail for a month for stone throwing at Radcliffe near
Manchester and on November 19, 1910 one month for breaking windows in the House of Commons.
She was arrested all of those times for throwing stones because her and other women would chain
themselves to government buildings and throw stones through the windows to gain their attention.
January 10, 1912 six months for setting fire to postal boxes at Holloway, London. Lastly on November
30, 1912 ten days for assaulting a vicar who she mistook to be David Lloyd George. Emily would do
all of this just to win the rights of women being able to vote and get equal rights as men.
Davison had a very interesting but tragic death. She died June 4, 1913 on a Wednesday. She got
injured at an horse race called the Epsom Derby. Emily was standing by the white rail near Tattenham
corner when a group of horses passed. She had on a trench coat and under it she had a flag in the
WSPU colors of purple, white, and green tied around her body. When the second group of horses
passed she climbed under the railing and raised her hands up. Emily tried to grab the rein of the King s
horse Anmer. Anmer knocked her over, rolled on his back, and started kicking her super hard. Horses

Attachment In Orphans
Based on statistics from 2015, there are currently 400,000 orphans within the United States s foster
system. An orphan would be described as a child whose parents or guardians are deceased. For the
young orphan that face the traumatic experience of having or perhaps even watching their parents die,
may possibly possess serious psychological problems. Throughout this research paper, there will be
several descriptions of common disorders or mental illnesses that an orphan may experience from
being separated from their birth parents or guardians. The first disorder common in orphan children
and young adults is attachment disorder. Attachment disorder can be described as an psychological
illness found in children that have issues with attachment.

Secondary Research Methods Paper
This research will be conducted using secondary research methods. The secondary sources will draw
on qualitative research such as, participant observation, interviews, and ethnographic accounts to
analyze the topic. The process of this research project will use a deductive approach. A deductive
approach is researching from a broad topic and narrowing it down to a more specific topic. This is
ideal for this project because there is an immense amount of research done on the development of
children and parenting, so therefore this project will narrow down to a specific aspect of these two
topics and create new information.
Secondary research methods include analyzing and gathering existing literature on the researchers
topic. Secondary research methods can be challenging because the existing literature might not
address the researchers questions directly and it might not be current or valid. An advantage to
secondary research methods is that it is quick and low cost. The data needed to analyze has already
been collected and ready to use. Secondary research methods also might only work for specific topics

me her urine appeared darker in colour than normal and smelled different than usual. She described
the pain as stinging and said that it was provoked by micturating and relieved a minute or so after she
stopped urinating. I asked her to point to where the pain was in her abdomen and she indicated the
suprapubic region. She gauged the pain to be level 6 on a pain scale of 0 10 without analgesia but did
say it was relieved by analgesia and resolved to a feeling of pressure rather than pain at that time.
Back/loin pain, nausea, vomiting, fever and frank haematuria are all more common with pylonephritis.
Sue denied any of these symptoms which made it less likely as a diagnosis ultimately. . On enquiry
Sue told me that she used Depo Provera injections for contraception and dysmenorrhoea and
consequently did not menstruate. She also denied any spotting of blood. Her last injection was given

The Paradigm Shift in Consumption
The Paradigm Shift in Consumption: The New Food Equation Consumer behaviors are constantly
changing, as can be seen with the recent trends of obesity in the global north and hunger and
malnutrition in the global south. Understanding global food systems is very important as it helps
explain opportunities and well as problems that exist in the current global food system. In 1950 s and
60 s an industrial food formula, was created in order to take strides towards delivering ample,
affordable, healthy and safe food in the global North (Roberts, 2013). This Industrial formula has not
lived up to its standards however and has caused some disappointment. As new generations emerge, so
do aspirations that food should taste real, provide fulfilling careers, support health, contribute to local
communities, honor the environment and enhance global sustainability (Roberts, 2013: 11). This new
trend has been termed the New Food Equation by Kevin Morgan and is a way to present the food
problem as a challenge and urge people to solve the problem by making good food choices (Rogers,
2013). They are multiple pillars to implementing this new food movement, but food sovereignty and
organic foods are the area of focus today. Members of La Via Campania coined the term food
sovereignty. This was an organization formed in 1992 that represents some 200 million peasants, small
farmers, agricultural workers and indigenous people from seventy different countries (Rogers, 2013:

The Effects Of Overpopulation On The Environment
The current world s population is estimated at approximately six billion people in the world and even
this number can be inaccurate. According to Sernau (2012), what is harder to estimate are the effects
that this growth and change will have on our planet. When looking at overpopulation and the effects
on the environment, we look at the overpopulation in cities and countries across the nation. Many
economic problems in our society place an impact on our environment from overpopulation come
from the overuse of resources, lack of resources, and pollution. There are many solutions to this
problem but the common factor is humans have to put controls in place and take care of the
environment, so the required resources do not become extinct.
Human population growth is a major contributor to global warming, given that more people means
more resources. When reading an article on population growth on climate change (Scientific
American, 2017), it reports that many population experts believe the answer lies in improving the
health of women and children in developing nations. By reducing poverty and infant mortality,
increasing women s and girls access to basic human rights (health care, education, economic
opportunity), educating women about birth control options and ensuring access to voluntary family
planning services, women will choose to limit family size (Scientific American, 2017). The birth rate
continues to be a big factor in overpopulation as reducing the family size and

The Current Uk Animal Welfare
The current UK animal welfare legislations and their objectives are:
¬ Animal Welfare Act 2006
This Act has for the first time introduced legislation for pet owners meaning that the owners have a
legal duty of care to meet the five welfare needs of their pets. The welfare needs are also known as the
five freedoms and they are the basic needs of any animal. The law also applies to people who are
responsible for animals, such as breeders and those who keep working animals. (APGAW. No Date)
¬ The Performing Animals (Regulations) Act 1925
This Act regulates the training and exhibition of performing animals as it requires trainers and
exhibitors of those animals to be registered with the local authority. The premises where animals are
being trained and exhibited can be entered by the police and officers of local authority, which may
include a vet. If the police or the local authority detects cruelty or neglect of the animals the
magistrates court can prohibit or restrict the training or exhibition of the animals and suspend or
cancel the trainers or exhibitor s registration. (APGAW. No Date)
¬ Pet Animals Act 1951
This legislation protects the welfare of animals which are sold as pets. The Act requires anyone
keeping a pet shop to be licenced by the local authority. The local authority must check that the
animals are kept in a clean and suitable accommodation; are supplied with appropriate food and drink;
and are protected from fire and disease before granting a licence. The

mutually faithful monogamous relationship in the context of marriage is the expected standard of
human sexual activity. Different people will disagree about the veracity of this statement, but we know
that it does not reflect the experiences of the majority of young people (Collins 1). Sexual education is
a mandatory part of every grade school curriculum and is funded by the federal government. The
content of sexuality education curricula in America varies widely by region, by school district, and
sometimes, by classroom (Collins 1). I believe that because of this fact that it should be taught in a one

the information they need to protect their health and well being. Students when asked survey by the
Kasier Family Foundation said that they knew more and felt better prepared to handle different
situations. Abstinence only education just chooses to avoid it and does not take into account students
who decide a different path. Abstinence only education supports say that by teaching the abstinence

Which of the proposed solutions do you favour and why?
Of the 3 options provided, I would choose to implement Anderson s key account program for several
reasons: 1. It will help align employee compensation with overall corporate profit objectives. CSC
managers are currently compensated based on their CSCs profit performance. This gives managers the
incentives to employ their own CSC consultants on projects from the region, regardless if there are
better suited ENSR consultants working under different CSCs. Depending on the specific needs of a
prospective client in the manager s region, the CSC may or may not contain the necessary expertise to

Therefore, ENSR might lose out on several clients because the BDOs aren t able to provide clients
with the right knowledge and expertise. 4. In some RFPs, the bid requires the consultant to outline the
scientific approach that they would take in resolving the conflict presented. This is a section of the
RFP that drives cost and time required to complete the RFP. By implementing a key account program,
consultants will be put on projects where they have expertise, and this should allow this process to be
as resource efficient as possible. 5. In the case, it states that it is common for some companies to begin
discussions with consultants well in advance of actually drafting and distributing an RFP. These
discussions helped the company to conceptualize more clearly the nature of the project and the
specific consulting needs. Having a key account team will guarantee that the client is getting the right
type of expertise, and will increase ENSR s chance of including its own insights into the drafting of
the RFP.
What is the ideal client for ENSR?
The ideal Client for ENSR is clients who have strong relationships with ENSR consultants. ENSR
gains from having repeat customers, notably customers willing to partner with ENSR for a sole source
contract. Having strong relationships reduces the amount of expended company resources (consultant
time and money). Consultants will then be able to spend less time prospecting clients and building
relationships,

Gene Regulation For Safety Assessment
Gene Regulation for Safety Assessment:
In addition to the mph gene, few gene regulations are implemented as safety assessment for the
product. In the recombination process of making this product, Ecoli plasmid has been used as a vector
to insert mph gene into host bacteria. We use a plasmid vector from E.coli that has conserved
sequence for Plac promoter and gef suicide gene. Plac promoter is positioned upstream of mph gene to
regulate its expression. Later, Plac promoter will be activated by induction with IPTG.
A suicide system in E.coli plasmid vector is used to reduce the potential risk of gene escaping into the
environment. Genetic transfer from GM bacteria to other bacteria via trans conjugation will cause
unexpected genetic combinations. This method is implemented by using recipient plasmid with
suicide gene gef from E.coli, with expression controlled by Pm promoter. Pm promoter sequence,
which present upstream of the gef suicide gene will control the expression of gef suicide gene.
The suicide system did not interfere with the performance of the GM bacteria until its physiological
function was activated by specific signal. In developing this product, we use Methyl Benzoate as the
chemical suicide signal. Following the addition of methyl benzoate, the Pm promoter will be
activated, and lead to the activation of gef suicide gene. This activates the suicide system of the cells
and the cell growth will decreases as the cells die.

THE HISTORY OF ELECTRONIC FUND TRANSFER
The history of electronic fund transfer and electronic banking are to a large extent ,closely interrelated
with that of the automated banking systems and also the growth of the consumer financial service

A Healthy Lifestyle Is Not Going On Diets
Health consists with temperance alone (Alexander Pope). When trying to create a modification in your
health, consistency is needed. To have consistency you need temperance. A healthy lifestyle is not
going on diets. A diet is defined as restricting oneself to a special course of foods in order to lose
weight over a specific amount of time (diet). A problem with diets is the yo yo effect. This is where a
person goes through a cycle of repetitive loss and regaining of body weight (Weight). This is not a
way of achieving a healthy life, but just a way to believe you are. Temperance is the most consistent
virtue needed when trying to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Temperance is abstaining from the desires of
the greatest pleasures. These pleasures can be found in the consumption of food and drinks. They are a
result of mainly the sense of touch. While the rest of the senses follow after. For example, the smell of
food, it is creating power to the pleasurable operation of items that are interrelated to the sense of
touch (McManaman). Temperance, therefore, applies to living a healthy lifestyle. To be healthy you
must abstain from the things that are bad for you and have moderations of what is beneficial. When
you eat more than the stomach can accommodate, it will stretch extraordinarily large. Therefore, the
body s blood supply will divert to the stomach instead of the rest of the body where it is supposed to
be going. The result of this is feeling tired after the large meal

Indian Boarding School Research Paper
Indian Boarding schools were the best way to convert people and their beliefs that potentially
disrupted the way of the manifest destiny. These schools would take young Indian children and
assimilate them to the Anglo American way of life. The highest priority of these Indian schools were
to teach the Indian youth reading and writing the Mathematics, English language, history, science, and
the arts hopefully encouraging the self directing power of thought. Religious education and training in
Christianity was taught. Political structure, institutions, and principles of a democratic society were
part of the citizenship training. All this effort was to eliminate all trace of the Indian culture.
One of the harshest critics was Gertude Bonnin (Zitkala Sa: Red Bird ), a famous Indian author and
artist who once taught at the Carlisle Indian School. According to Zitkala Sa, the boarding school
system was a miserable state of cultural dislocation, that created problems long after the children

Evolution Of Chemical Warfare
Records of the implementation of chemicals in battle tactics on a simple scale can be found as early as
the Bronze Age.1 However, relatively recent developments in industry have facilitated the production,
mobilization, and dissemination of destructive chemical agents. As a result of said technological
innovations, the scale of implementation has shifted, resulting in vastly amplified hazards to not just
military personnel, but also to the general public.2 3 The Geneva Protocol was enacted in 1925 with
goals to prevent the future abuse of harmful and arguably cruel tactics in warfare.2 This was in direct

Analysis Of For Whom The Bell Tolls
For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway is a historical fiction love story, set in Spain during
the Spanish Civil war, which heavily develops thematically from a line about human nature from John
Donne s Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions of No man is an Iland; every man is a piece of the
continent, a part of the main, (Preface). Within the novel, anti fascist American man, Robert Jordan,
transforms from a distrustful man into an altruist for his loved ones, who discovers the idea Donne put
onto paper and Hemingway transcribed, creating a true, convincing, and logical conclusion (4, 247);
however, this change almost solely comes from the plot device of romantic love, which is only able to
be understood as logical with a suspension of disbelief (210). In order to judge the plot of the journey
of the protagonist and the ending of the novel, his development as a character should first be analyzed.
Initially, when coming to the revolution, Robert Jordan views the world as a black and white battle of
ideas and his only fear was not to complete his duty to his cause in life and war, rather than the people
the fighting truly stands for (51), which also extends to his lack of initial trust in his comrade,
Anselmo (4). Jordan as an independent loner represents a man believing he is an Iland, in how he
chooses to separate himself from others and believes his ideology is flawless, rather than trying to
improve as a human. Jordan eventually falls out of his linear views,

2. What was the background for the research study? That is, what previous knowledge did the author
describe as a foundation for the study in the review of related literature ? The background for the
research study provided insight into the theoretical and pedagogical aspect of using native language
(L1) with a focus on the aspects that most relate to adult ESL classes. The areas addressed were both
the affective aspects of learning related to bilingualism and academic development and the effective
classroom practices. Knowing that individuals organize and learn information by thinking and feeling,
teachers need to keep in mind that the emotional self is a strong factor in learning. Native language is
an important part of culture and creating opportunities for using L1 might be quite beneficial to
learning the target language (TL), in this case English. The nature of bilingualism was addressed and
as Huerta Macias and Kephart cited Cook (1992), learners cannot simply shut down their knowledge
of one language when using the other. Adults whose cognitive development exceeds their linguistic
ability in the TL may find an English only class frustrating. Another important element of the
background research was the understanding that adults will learn English differently than students in a
K 12 setting. For adults, language is best taught through content, as a tool for communicating and
learning. Use of L1 in adult ESL classrooms serves multiple purposes, such as

`` Yes A College Education Is Worth The Cost `` By Rodney...
In his essay, Yes a College Education is Worth the Cost, writer Rodney Smith discusses how students
of this generation don t care about receiving a great education for the future. Throughout his essay he
explains how a college education is worth the cost. He stated that people between the ages of 18 34
say they would much rather get a job and make money than spend money to go back to school to
obtain a higher degree. Smith s family grew up in Oklahoma and they viewed education as an
investment. Smith was influenced by his father s upbringing and attended college and law school just
like his father. By establishing and building his case about how education is worth the cost, uses a
great deal of evidence, his argument is well organized, and he gains the audience s attention.
Background of the author
The organization of Smith argument was well structured. Smith begins his argument by imagining a
student getting a worthless degree and realizing that the degree he got won t repay the loan debt (29).
He then uses one type of persuasion, logos. He uses logos in the beginning to show the percentages of
going and not going to college can affect your future. In addition, the data illustrates the percentage of
people who have a certain degree and how much money the degree will earn them (29). After that, he
explains thoroughly why college education is worth the money. Smith uses pathos to emotionally
connect to his audience when he tells his story about when he was a president at

How The Show Dancing With The Stars ( New Zealand ) Essay
According to Lealand and Martin (2001), despite outer differences, each element of television is
connected in a way. For example, the schedule provides a controlled grid to organise strands genres,
genre groupings connect across programmes and programmes connect to nearby programmes
(Lealand Martin, 2001). Moreover, every individual element of a television programme connects, in
some way, to the producers purpose of the show (Lealand Martin, 2001; Horrocks, 2004). Thus, each
feature of a programme is considered in terms of the appeal to its target audience and genre. This
essay will analyse how the TV3 show Dancing with the Stars (New Zealand) is structured and
produced to suit the purpose of the show and appeal to the target audience. Furthermore, reinforcing
the idea that programmes have a motive for every individual element in their structure. Firstly, the
genre of Dancing with the Stars, time slot in schedule, and the aspects of its television station have
influence in the show s target audience and purpose (Creeber, 2008). This influence of target audience
can also be seen when analysing the structure of the show. Furthermore, the producer uses various
production techniques to appeal to the audience. Thus, by looking at the different aspects of Dancing
with the Stars it s clear to see the relationship between the production and structure of the show, with
the intended audience. Moreover, the show effectively validates the sense that every aspect of

Academic Achievement Of Graduate Education
Many undergraduate nursing programs aim to fulfill many pathways into the nursing career while
inspiring early achievement of graduate education. The undergraduate programs share multiple
commonalities, the differences are visible in the structure of the courses structure and the contents
(Billings Halstead, 2016, p. 135). The first curriculum model of training created in the late nineteenth
and early to mid twentieth centuries was the Diploma programs. At first the program was associated
with hospitals and higher educational institutions, with the goal of training nurses in clinical skills to
deliver patient care in many health care environment over a period of three years. The program mainly
consisted of general education courses in the biological and social sciences which was facilitated
through association with a local college or university. Students were able to transfer their credits to a
baccalaureate degree in nursing to further their education. The continuing progress of undergraduate
program into colleges and universities has cause the decrease in diploma schools and has contributed
to 10% of nursing programs educating students in the United States. The existence of ASN or
associate degree in nursing (ADN) programs were initiated in 1952 by Mildred Montag in reaction to
nursing shortages and to produce nurses in two years to provide care to patients with guidance of
professional nurse in acute care environment (Billings Halstead, 2016, p.135).

The Class Of African American History
Color You walk into the classroom and it s the most awkward thing ever. You regret the day you

Why does your skin color make matters this problematic? It s essential that a class like African

American audience. This assumption is completely misleading, but most fall the underdog to. The
homogeneity society amongst the students is bare and should be altered.
I m currently enrolled in African American history. I ve noticed there aren t any people outside of the

Jo also refuses to marry Laurie because she does not truly love him. Of course, it would be difficult to
argue that Jo s marriage to Laurie would be as disharmonious with the text s moral stance as Amy s
intended betrothal to Fred Vaughn indeed, it is probable that many readers would have preferred it
over Jo s marriage to Mr. Bhaer. Jo s affection for Laurie is not predicated on his wealth, and it must
be said that the Laurences use their wealth nobly. However, while we can say that Laurie does not
contradict the novel s moral ideal, Jo s marriage to him would do little to advance it, particularly if the
reader is to accept Mrs. March s assessment that Jo and Laurie would fare poorly as a couple. Mr.
Bhaer, by contrast, aids in Jo s moral development. He dissuades her from writing sensation stories,
likening their publication to the sale of alcohol with the argument that there is a demand for whisky,
but I think you and I do not care to sell it. (Alcott 280) When Jo protests that authors of sensation
stories are trying to make an honest wage, Mr. Bhaer contends that if the authors, knew what harm
they did, they would not feel that the living was honest, (Alcott 280) reiterating the novel s underlying
moral directive that wealth should never be a cause to sacrifice morality, dignity, or happiness. Jo and
Mr. Bhaer s marriage signifies Jo s ultimate acceptance of the lesson her mother set out to teach her,
and both their sons and the students at their school guarantee that the morally improved society

National Football Game Analysis
The modern National Football League, more commonly known as the NFL, has been around since
1924. It consists of thirty two teams, spread out in eight divisions inside two conferences, the AFC and

make the playoffs, with four receiving a first round bye. The third round, the AFC and NFC
Championships, determine who will play in the Superbowl for a chance at a winning title and glory.
The games are single elimination, and thus if a team hopes to win the Vince Lombardi trophy at the

Analysis Of The Poem Taps Upon The Grass
Taps upon the grass. We moved to Prairie Grove, May of 2007 from Fort Smith, Arkansas. It was a
beautiful day and even though the drive with a newborn and a traitor full of our belongings was
intense. The scenery was absolutely memorizing, little did we know or realize how many wonderful
things there were about this little town to explore. We had lived in Prairie Grove for a few years before
we started attending local events. It was a Friday afternoon and I was heading to the school to pick up
my oldest son Elliott from band practice and I noticed a lot of people setting up tents and walking
around in old settler clothes. Men in blue and gray suits, some were riding horses. Women in
petticoats and big bulky dresses. All walking around the Battlefield Park like this was something
normal that went on everyday. I m thinking, Ok, this town is kind of weird. Soon I started to learn the
history of the town we moved to, and all the intricate details surrounding the town of Prairie Grove.
Come to find out, Part of the Civil War battle was fought on the Prairie Grove Battlefield on

James Q. Wilson and George Kelling in 1982 developed the idea of the Broken Windows Theory. The

disorder, serious crime will decrease. The types of disorders are explained in further depth. The first
type of disorder is physical disorder. Examples of physical disorder is but not limited to vacant
buildings, broken windows, abandoned vehicles, and vacant lots filled with trash. The second type of
disorder is defined by noise, hostile panhandlers and young adults gathering in groups on corners.

Love Not Legalism By Madeleine L Engle
Love Not Legalism
Madeleine L Engle was a fierce thought provoking writer. She challenged me as both a believer and a
writer. Her scatterbrained writing style was relatable to me and so were the things she talked about.
She would have been a wonderful wise woman to grab a meal with. She did not shy away from
controversial topics; but instead, she introduced them. In Walking on Water L Engle sought to share
the freedom available to us if we allow Jesus Christ to break us free from our chains.
One of the topics that L Engle humbly addressed was the topic of legalism. I greatly appreciated this
because I find that many world renowned leaders shy away from talking about it, when in reality it
may be one of the enemy s most disguised tools. When people see God as an unapproachable killjoy, it
becomes natural to grow distant from Him, and I know that before becoming a Christian this was the
biggest stumbling block for me and I know some of the most kindhearted people cannot grasp the fact
that God loves them and that He sent His one and only son to save them. L Engle also tackled the
major misconception that God does not know how to laugh. He created humor and is pretty humorous
himself. George MacDonald said, It is the Heart that is not yet sure of its God that is afraid to laugh in
His presence (131). I am learning that more and more every day. The common trait that my most

The Importance Of Modernism In Literature
Modernism, a constantly debated term, is a philosophical movement that emerged during the late 19th
and early 20th centuries, following World War I. Painters, writers, and musicians did not however
perceive it just as a period in time, rather as a commitment to experimentation in techniques, freedom
in ideas, originality in perceptions, and self examination in emotions (Baughman, Bondi,
Layman...etc,1) Writers, for example, like James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, and Ernest Hemingway broke
away from the traditional and conventional techniques to create their own literary voice. Joyce s A
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Woolf s Jacob s Room, and Hemingway s In Our Time each
exemplify distinctive styles in ideology, art, culture, and politics which eventually became what the
modernist movement, also known as the avant garde, appertained to. While their childhood s affected
their writing, Hemingway s minimalistic technique of composition in In Our Time, and Joyce and
Woolf s prolific amount of attention to detail in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Jacob s
Room affected the growth of the modernist movement.
Virginia Woolf and James Joyce s similar upbringing shaped them into the people they are today.
English modernist writer and critic, Adeline Virginia Stephen, commonly acknowledged as Virginia
Woolf, was born on January 25, 1882 in London, England and died on March 28, 1941. Woolf was
born into a typical Victorian family, where the father of the family was the

Analysis Of For Whom The Bell Toll By John Donne
The introduction to For Whom The Bell Tolls is a poem by John Donne, of which the last line says
any mans death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankinde; And therefore never send to
know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee (Hemingway 3). This line encapsulates the theme of the
novel and defines the novel s meaning. Robert Jordan the main character of the novel arrives in Spain
as a volunteer, ready to fight and give his life for other people s freedom and right to self
determination. One of the reasons why this novel was so enjoyable was its focus on the individual and
intense discussions about life and death and morality of killing for and idea. However, the reader can
not help identifying with Jordan, as he plans his own future despite subconsciously understanding his
fate.
For Whom The Bell Tolls takes place during the Spanish Civil War, during a time period when
political divisions, between the right and Nd left were at all time highs around the world. The novel
discusses an execution of the fascists in one of the main character, Pillar s, town, and she describes
how political beliefs became enough to kill someone for. Don Guillermo was a fascist but otherwise
there was nothing against him... He had a rude way of speaking and he was undoubtedly a fascist and
a member of their club and he sat at noon and at evening in the cane chairs of their club to read El
Debate, to have his shoes shined, and to drink vermouth and seltzer and eat roasted almonds,

Raising A Child Is A Good Or Bad Reaction
As most parents know, raising a child can be extremely difficult. However, raising a child who
identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer/questioning (LGBTQ) can be especially
trying for many different reasons. There are many things that these parents have to deal with that most
parents do not. One of the most difficult times for not only the parent of an LGBTQ child, but for the
kid as well, is when the child comes out. This topic is very important in the field of family studies
because, when a child comes out to his or her parents, the whole family is involved. The parent s
reaction can have a significant effect on the child, whether it is a good or bad reaction. This is an
important topic to study because both parents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The parents should be cautious and think through what to say to their child before speaking, because
anything said could have a big impact on the adolescent. One example of a negative reaction an
adolescent might get is the parents denying their child s sexuality. Some parents, as a way of coping,
will think that it is a stage that the child will grow out of, or that the child came out just to get a
reaction from the parents. In these cases, the son or daughter might feel the need to come out a second
time. Denes and Afifi (2014) found that nearly a quarter of the participants in their study came out to
their parents a second time. The reason most of the participants chose to come out again was because
their parents denied their sexuality. Most participants who received a negative reaction to their coming
out were more likely to come out again. This was because the child wanted to assert their identities,
and prove that this is whom the adolescent really is. The child also wanted to share information with
their parents about their LGBTQ lifestyle. The reaction given by the parents can also have an effect on
how the LGBTQ child sees others in this community. D amico, Julien, Tremblay, and Chartrand
(2015) found that the more the parents had difficulties coming to terms with their child s sexual
orientation, the more the adolescent expressed negative views toward gay, lesbian, and bisexual
people. The child internalized the parents prejudice against those in

Essay On Indian Historiography
How the Indian historiography has evolved from precolonial to post colonial period?
Over the three millenniums, India has developed opulent and complex layers of culture, since
geographically India lies at crossroads of trading routes. From ancient times, people from diverse
background and ethnicity came into India as traders and invaders via land as well as sea routes. They
settled down here and, over the time, India assimilated them in its cultural and social mosaic. Also,
India remained a home of host of empires and kingdoms with each having a peculiar history. Pre
colonial empires and kingships had history but it would be told orally and would occasionally be
chronicled. It were the Europeans particularly the British armed with documentation and statistical
knowledge who introduced a systematic chronology of the Indian history upon seizing India. The
modern Indian historiography was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
. As Jalal and Bose have argued that the cracking and crumbling of the modern nation state system, the
disintegration of the socialist alternative, the disillusionment with the false promises of capitalism, and
the resurgence of redefined social identities thought to have been obliterated by the steam roller of
modernization have all rendered interpretations of the modern era in South Asian and world history
much more complex. Recent themes in South Asian historiography have been the role of intermediate
social groups in the construction of the British raj and that of subaltern social groups in anti colonial
resistance; the part played by the colonial state in the reinvention of communal and caste categories;
the refashioning of social relations of class by the linking of Indian economic regions to wider
capitalist systems; and the impact of the interplay between national, communal and regional levels of
politics on the process of

Inaccuracy In Selma
Selma, a 2014 film directed by Ava DuVernay, follows Martin Luther King Jr. s campaign during the
Civil Rights Movement. The film hones in on the historical march from Selma to Montgomery in
1965 which King organized as a Civil Rights protest.1 When initially watching the film, it seems as
though Selma does an appreciable job of depicting the challenges in which African Americans
endured while advocating for their rights, particularly the right to vote. While there is no doubt that
African Americans during this time suffered great hardships, upon further research, it can be argued
that Selma does not depict how these events transpired in an entirely accurate manner. The film uses
heart wrenching dramatization to evoke a sense of emotion from ... Show more content on

While the film demonizes Johnson and suggests that he was working against those taking part in the
Civil Rights Movement, this is not historically correct. Although his actions in proposing the Voting
Rights Act were delayed, Johnson was a crucial ally in the quest for black voting rights throughout the
Civil Rights Movement.3 The film depicts several meetings between King and Johnson where
Johnson is rather harsh and ignorant towards King s pleas, while in reality, Johnson . . . [only] wanted
the dust to settle from the Civil Rights Act . . . before he could propose a voting rights bill.3 Following
the protest in Selma which broke out in violence, Johnson spoke on national television of how it is
wrong to inflict violence upon innocent citizens, and it is equally as wrong to deny a citizen the right
to vote based on the color of their skin.3 The film omits these events in order to demonize Johnson
and make for a more dramatic and emotion provoking storyline, but in doing so, the audience is not
able to learn of how these historical events actually unfolded. Johnson was an important ally not only
to King, but to all who were fighting during the Civil Rights Movement; this is an important fact that
Selma deprives its audience

The Survival of the Rock Hyrax in Urban Areas
RATIONALE Urbanisation poses a threat to wildlife through habitat destruction and population
fragmentation. As a consequence, urbanisation alters the distribution of species. Yet, urbanisation
creates opportunities for some species to thrive and persist in the urban jungle. Many species have
adapted to urban areas across the globe. However, not all animals living in urban areas adapt to urban
life and instead might be confined to refugia that match the pre existing adaptation to natural
conditions. Therefore, studying the occurrence and persistence of wildlife in urban areas might
provide an understanding how some species can survive urbanisation (Chace Walsh 2006; Sih 2013;
Sol et al. 2013; Fontúrbel Tarifa 2013). Wildlife can become pests in urban areas. For invasive species,
these conflicts arise because they exploit newly available niches. For example, cane toads, Bufo
marinus, in Australia, red foxes, Vulpes vulpes, across the globe, and grey squirrels, Sciurus
carolinensis, in Britain (Barr et al. 2002; Saunders et al. 2010; Bateman Fleming 2012). However, for
indigenous species, these conflicts can arise through habituation to people which could lead to these
species being viewed as pests due to their behaviours conflicting with human interests. For example,
European badgers, Meles meles, in British residential properties during foraging and sett construction
(Ward et al. 2008). My study is concerned with establishing how species can survive in urban

  • 2. Ap English Literature Essay Literature has always been a window into life during a particular time frame. Fiction and nonfiction alike will give its readers a glimpse of the lives of those of varying social statuses, along with the culture and politics of the time. This remains true regardless of the period in which a work was written. From the Romantic era to the 20th Century, literature has been skilled at providing understanding of others and their lives. For example, from the Romantic period works like the two William Wordsworth poems I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud and The World is Too Much with Us, along with A Red, Red Rose by Robert Burns. The Victorian era has its own share of works that reflect the time when it was written, including Lewis Carroll s The Walrus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Language can mean a number of things in regards to literature, it can refer to the slang that is used, the way that the author phrased a sentence, or even the dialect that the work is written in. Authors like Robert Burns, Gerard Manley Hopkins, and W.H. Auden in particular make use of language in the first two ways mentioned as a way of reflecting their respective time periods. Robert Burn s A Red, Red Rose is a poem that makes perfect use of language in order to display the thoughts of the author, which in turn displays the general thoughts of the time as well as his own location. A Red, Red Rose is a rather romantic poem, and considering the era in which it was written makes it fairly obvious that other authors of the time were discussing similar subjects. When discussing the beauty of his love, Burn s use of language which talks of how, [...] fair art thou, my bonnie lass [...] sort of automatically puts the reader in a mindset that can better understand his life (Burns). Couple the more archaic way of writing with the dialect of the author, which is put on display in his goodbyes to his love in the lines, [...] And fare thee weel, my only luve! And fare thee weel awhile! And I will come again, my luve [...] (Burns). God s Grandeur by Gerard Manley Hopkins also use language in order to further the ideas of his time. While the Victorian period was one of great scientific advancements, it was also a time when Christianity was a very large part of people s lives. Hopkins uses solid, imposing words in order to enforce the concept of God s strength, as seen early on in his poem, where he states that, [...] The world is charged with the grandeur of God. It will flame out, like shining from shook foil; It gathers to a greatness, like the ooze of oil [...] (Hopkins). The author furthers the power of God by downplaying the strengths of mankind, ... The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas Samantha Clements ENG 125 February 18, 2013 The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas is to some people, a very disturbing story; but, it is nothing short of the truth when speaking of today s society. Can a city really exist where there is nothing but happiness forevermore? No, it cannot, not without consequences; as shown in Le Guin s story. Good vs. Evil is a definite underlying theme in The Ones Who Walked Away from Omelas. The goodness and happiness in the city of Omelas comes only by the misery and sacrifice of an innocent child. Good cannot exist without evil. In this story, the child helps the people of Omelas measure their own happiness; because if the child in the cellar was not so ... • 4. The Relationship Between Machiavelli And Machiavelli s... The topic of proper governing has been well discussed throughout history by several unique voices. While some philosophers have similar opinions on what it takes to be an effective leader, such as intelligence and worldliness, there are many that disagree on traits they find beneficial. The reasons for these disagreements are vast but one of the crucial factors are the societies and historical eras these authors were nurtured within. Through their own experiences with government and turmoil, philosophers are able to give their critiques on government and human nature as a whole. Socrates and Machiavelli, both philosophers in what it means to be a proper leader and the role of the people within a society, share contrasting views. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through his writings in The Prince, we are able to create the image of an ideal Machiavellian prince and principle. This image of the ideal principle can then be applied to Socrates and his views on how the govern should function in The Apology. Machiavelli and Socrates do have similar philosophies but there are also areas where they are likely to disagree. While Socrates would approve of some aspects of the ideal prince and the political system he would lead, he would overall not approve of a Machiavellian principle as it encourages aggressive behavior that contradicts what he considers to be just. There is an aspect that both Socrates and Machiavelli both speak about in detail within their works that provide a positive connection between them. Machiavelli writes about the mindset of the people in his criticism of the role of religion in the government. In The Prince, Machiavelli does mention principles that have the church as a core part of the prince s legitimacy, which he refers to as Ecclesiastical Principles (The Prince, CH. XI). Machiavelli does confess the the people within the principles are happier, but this is not what he values. He believes that an ideal prince should not encourage religious practices, especially in relation to his role as the ruler. To Machiavelli, he believes that the prince should put loyalty to the state over that of a higher power. He writes which men are esteemed, being often forced, in order to maintain the state, to act ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Maycomb County was impacted by the Great Depression, mostly because it was a small community based town. In Harper Lee s, To Kill a Mockingbird, the Great Depression played a considerable role in the setting, theme, and characters. The Great Depression seemed to engulf smaller cities much faster than it did the bigger cities. The people of Maycomb spent their days standing in town imploring for goods that they could no longer afford. According to the author, they begin having sit down strikes in the big cities of Alabama; also the bread lines were forming throughout the day (Lee 116). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people through the story left the town with hopes of finding a better life elsewhere. According to Lee, John Finch, Atticus brother, commuted to a bigger city because cotton could not be grown in Maycomb (Lee 5). When saying this, Harper Lee is indicating that people were not in sustainable conditions while in Maycomb. The farm land was almost impossible for growing anything. Therefore, the people that stayed in Maycomb faced challenging times. The people are very home oriented; whereas they are willing to face tragedies just to stay in their home town with the people that they love. This aspect of the book is very important. The people of Maycomb are so close. Maycomb County came together when the whole world seemed to come to a halt during the Depression. The setting, theme, and characters were most affected by the Great Depression. The small town of Maycomb stood together through the worst of times. How Does Prospero Meet Caliban The first mention of Caliban occurs before we meet the character, when Prospero tells Miranda the story of the damned witch Sycorax, a blue eyed hag was hither brought with child (1.2.269). This hag s child is Caliban, who Prospero highlights was not honoured with / a human shape. (1.2.283 4). Our primary knowledge of Caliban other than who his mother is is that he is subhuman, which instantly labels him as inferior. Having a human shape is an honor that Caliban was not given due to his parentage. The reader is automatically set up to agree with this opinion and it is uncontested throughout the play. In the essay, Montaigne argues in favor of the cannibal way of life by asserting its proximity to nature, and nature s inherent superiority. He compares the cannibals to wild fruit and the Europeans to those that we have changed artificially and led astray from the common order that we should rather call wild . He states that the laws of nature still rule [the cannibals] very little corrupted by ours; and they are in such a state of purity that I am sometimes vexed that they were unknown earlier (153). The secondary sources will draw on qualitative research such as, participant observation, interviews, and ethnographic accounts to analyze the topic. The process of this research project will use a deductive approach. A deductive approach is researching from a broad topic and narrowing it down to a more specific topic. This is ideal for this project because there is an immense amount of research done on the development of children and parenting, so therefore this project will narrow down to a specific aspect of these two topics and create new information. Secondary research methods include analyzing and gathering existing literature on the researchers topic. Secondary research methods can be challenging because the existing literature might not address the researchers questions directly and it might not be current or valid. • 13. The Paradigm Shift in Consumption The Paradigm Shift in Consumption: The New Food Equation Consumer behaviors are constantly changing, as can be seen with the recent trends of obesity in the global north and hunger and malnutrition in the global south. Understanding global food systems is very important as it helps explain opportunities and well as problems that exist in the current global food system. In 1950 s and 60 s an industrial food formula, was created in order to take strides towards delivering ample, affordable, healthy and safe food in the global North (Roberts, 2013). This Industrial formula has not lived up to its standards however and has caused some disappointment. As new generations emerge, so do aspirations that food should taste real, provide fulfilling careers, support health, contribute to local communities, honor the environment and enhance global sustainability (Roberts, 2013: 11). This new trend has been termed the New Food Equation by Kevin Morgan and is a way to present the food problem as a challenge and urge people to solve the problem by making good food choices (Rogers, 2013). They are multiple pillars to implementing this new food movement, but food sovereignty and organic foods are the area of focus today. Members of La Via Campania coined the term food sovereignty. According to Sernau (2012), what is harder to estimate are the effects that this growth and change will have on our planet. When looking at overpopulation and the effects on the environment, we look at the overpopulation in cities and countries across the nation. Many economic problems in our society place an impact on our environment from overpopulation come from the overuse of resources, lack of resources, and pollution. There are many solutions to this problem but the common factor is humans have to put controls in place and take care of the environment, so the required resources do not become extinct. Human population growth is a major contributor to global warming, given that more people means more resources. When reading an article on population growth on climate change (Scientific American, 2017), it reports that many population experts believe the answer lies in improving the health of women and children in developing nations. By reducing poverty and infant mortality, increasing women s and girls access to basic human rights (health care, education, economic opportunity), educating women about birth control options and ensuring access to voluntary family planning services, women will choose to limit family size (Scientific American, 2017). The Current Uk Animal Welfare The current UK animal welfare legislations and their objectives are: ¬ Animal Welfare Act 2006 This Act has for the first time introduced legislation for pet owners meaning that the owners have a legal duty of care to meet the five welfare needs of their pets. The welfare needs are also known as the five freedoms and they are the basic needs of any animal. The law also applies to people who are responsible for animals, such as breeders and those who keep working animals. (APGAW. The premises where animals are being trained and exhibited can be entered by the police and officers of local authority, which may include a vet. If the police or the local authority detects cruelty or neglect of the animals the magistrates court can prohibit or restrict the training or exhibition of the animals and suspend or cancel the trainers or exhibitor s registration. By implementing a key account program, consultants will be put on projects where they have expertise, and this should allow this process to be as resource efficient as possible. 5. In the case, it states that it is common for some companies to begin discussions with consultants well in advance of actually drafting and distributing an RFP. These discussions helped the company to conceptualize more clearly the nature of the project and the specific consulting needs. Having a key account team will guarantee that the client is getting the right type of expertise, and will increase ENSR s chance of including its own insights into the drafting of the RFP. What is the ideal client for ENSR? The ideal Client for ENSR is clients who have strong relationships with ENSR consultants. In the recombination process of making this product, Ecoli plasmid has been used as a vector to insert mph gene into host bacteria. We use a plasmid vector from E.coli that has conserved sequence for Plac promoter and gef suicide gene. Plac promoter is positioned upstream of mph gene to regulate its expression. Later, Plac promoter will be activated by induction with IPTG. A suicide system in E.coli plasmid vector is used to reduce the potential risk of gene escaping into the environment. Genetic transfer from GM bacteria to other bacteria via trans conjugation will cause unexpected genetic combinations. This method is implemented by using recipient plasmid with suicide gene gef from E.coli, with expression controlled by Pm promoter. Pm promoter sequence, which present upstream of the gef suicide gene will control the expression of gef suicide gene. The suicide system did not interfere with the performance of the GM bacteria until its physiological function was activated by specific signal. In developing this product, we use Methyl Benzoate as the chemical suicide signal. Following the addition of methyl benzoate, the Pm promoter will be activated, and lead to the activation of gef suicide gene. This activates the suicide system of the cells and the cell growth will decreases as the cells die. Plan Methods: These procedures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. A Healthy Lifestyle Is Not Going On Diets Health consists with temperance alone (Alexander Pope). When trying to create a modification in your health, consistency is needed. To have consistency you need temperance. A healthy lifestyle is not going on diets. A diet is defined as restricting oneself to a special course of foods in order to lose weight over a specific amount of time (diet). A problem with diets is the yo yo effect. This is where a person goes through a cycle of repetitive loss and regaining of body weight (Weight). This is not a way of achieving a healthy life, but just a way to believe you are. Temperance is the most consistent virtue needed when trying to achieve a healthy lifestyle. Temperance is abstaining from the desires of the greatest pleasures. These pleasures can be found in the consumption of food and drinks. They are a result of mainly the sense of touch. While the rest of the senses follow after. For example, the smell of food, it is creating power to the pleasurable operation of items that are interrelated to the sense of touch (McManaman). Temperance, therefore, applies to living a healthy lifestyle. To be healthy you must abstain from the things that are bad for you and have moderations of what is beneficial. • 29. Analysis Of For Whom The Bell Tolls For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway is a historical fiction love story, set in Spain during the Spanish Civil war, which heavily develops thematically from a line about human nature from John Donne s Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions of No man is an Iland; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main, (Preface). Within the novel, anti fascist American man, Robert Jordan, transforms from a distrustful man into an altruist for his loved ones, who discovers the idea Donne put onto paper and Hemingway transcribed, creating a true, convincing, and logical conclusion (4, 247); however, this change almost solely comes from the plot device of romantic love, which is only able to be understood as logical with a suspension of disbelief (210). In order to judge the plot of the journey of the protagonist and the ending of the novel, his development as a character should first be analyzed. Initially, when coming to the revolution, Robert Jordan views the world as a black and white battle of ideas and his only fear was not to complete his duty to his cause in life and war, rather than the people the fighting truly stands for (51), which also extends to his lack of initial trust in his comrade, Anselmo (4). That is, what previous knowledge did the author describe as a foundation for the study in the review of related literature ? The background for the research study provided insight into the theoretical and pedagogical aspect of using native language (L1) with a focus on the aspects that most relate to adult ESL classes. The areas addressed were both the affective aspects of learning related to bilingualism and academic development and the effective classroom practices. Knowing that individuals organize and learn information by thinking and feeling, teachers need to keep in mind that the emotional self is a strong factor in learning. Native language is an important part of culture and creating opportunities for using L1 might be quite beneficial to learning the target language (TL), in this case English. The nature of bilingualism was addressed and as Huerta Macias and Kephart cited Cook (1992), learners cannot simply shut down their knowledge of one language when using the other. Adults whose cognitive development exceeds their linguistic ability in the TL may find an English only class frustrating. Another important element of the background research was the understanding that adults will learn English differently than students in a K 12 setting. For adults, language is best taught through content, as a tool for communicating and learning. Use of L1 in adult ESL classrooms serves multiple purposes, such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his essay, Yes a College Education is Worth the Cost, writer Rodney Smith discusses how students of this generation don t care about receiving a great education for the future. Throughout his essay he explains how a college education is worth the cost. He stated that people between the ages of 18 34 say they would much rather get a job and make money than spend money to go back to school to obtain a higher degree. Smith s family grew up in Oklahoma and they viewed education as an investment. Smith was influenced by his father s upbringing and attended college and law school just like his father. In addition, the data illustrates the percentage of people who have a certain degree and how much money the degree will earn them (29). Wilson and Kelling argued by eliminating disorder, serious crime will decrease. The types of disorders are explained in further depth. The first type of disorder is physical disorder. Examples of physical disorder is but not limited to vacant buildings, broken windows, abandoned vehicles, and vacant lots filled with trash. The second type of disorder is defined by noise, hostile panhandlers and young adults gathering in groups on corners. These forms of disorder make the community appear unsafe ... • 41. Love Not Legalism By Madeleine L Engle Love Not Legalism Madeleine L Engle was a fierce thought provoking writer. She challenged me as both a believer and a writer. Her scatterbrained writing style was relatable to me and so were the things she talked about. She would have been a wonderful wise woman to grab a meal with. She did not shy away from controversial topics; but instead, she introduced them. In Walking on Water L Engle sought to share the freedom available to us if we allow Jesus Christ to break us free from our chains. One of the topics that L Engle humbly addressed was the topic of legalism. I greatly appreciated this because I find that many world renowned leaders shy away from talking about it, when in reality it may be one of the enemy s most disguised tools. When people see God as an unapproachable killjoy, it becomes natural to grow distant from Him, and I know that before becoming a Christian this was the biggest stumbling block for me and I know some of the most kindhearted people cannot grasp the fact that God loves them and that He sent His one and only son to save them. L Engle also tackled the major misconception that God does not know how to laugh. He created humor and is pretty humorous himself. George MacDonald said, It is the Heart that is not yet sure of its God that is afraid to laugh in His presence (131). I am learning that more and more every day. The common trait that my most joyful friends share is confidence in God s love for them. A relationship with God has so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Importance Of Modernism In Literature Modernism, a constantly debated term, is a philosophical movement that emerged during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, following World War I. Painters, writers, and musicians did not however perceive it just as a period in time, rather as a commitment to experimentation in techniques, freedom in ideas, originality in perceptions, and self examination in emotions (Baughman, Bondi, Layman...etc,1) Writers, for example, like James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, and Ernest Hemingway broke away from the traditional and conventional techniques to create their own literary voice. Joyce s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Woolf s Jacob s Room, and Hemingway s In Our Time each exemplify distinctive styles in ideology, art, culture, and politics which eventually became what the modernist movement, also known as the avant garde, appertained to. While their childhood s affected their writing, Hemingway s minimalistic technique of composition in In Our Time, and Joyce and Woolf s prolific amount of attention to detail in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Jacob s Room affected the growth of the modernist movement. Virginia Woolf and James Joyce s similar upbringing shaped them into the people they are today. English modernist writer and critic, Adeline Virginia Stephen, commonly acknowledged as Virginia Woolf, was born on January 25, 1882 in London, England and died on March 28, 1941. Woolf was born into a typical Victorian family, where the father of the family was the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Analysis Of For Whom The Bell Toll By John Donne The introduction to For Whom The Bell Tolls is a poem by John Donne, of which the last line says any mans death diminishes me, because I am involved in Mankinde; And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; It tolls for thee (Hemingway 3). This line encapsulates the theme of the novel and defines the novel s meaning. Robert Jordan the main character of the novel arrives in Spain as a volunteer, ready to fight and give his life for other people s freedom and right to self determination. One of the reasons why this novel was so enjoyable was its focus on the individual and intense discussions about life and death and morality of killing for and idea. However, the reader can not help identifying with Jordan, as he plans his own future despite subconsciously understanding his fate. For Whom The Bell Tolls takes place during the Spanish Civil War, during a time period when political divisions, between the right and Nd left were at all time highs around the world. The novel discusses an execution of the fascists in one of the main character, Pillar s, town, and she describes how political beliefs became enough to kill someone for. Don Guillermo was a fascist but otherwise there was nothing against him... He had a rude way of speaking and he was undoubtedly a fascist and a member of their club and he sat at noon and at evening in the cane chairs of their club to read El Debate, to have his shoes shined, and to drink vermouth and seltzer and eat roasted almonds, ... • 46. Raising A Child Is A Good Or Bad Reaction As most parents know, raising a child can be extremely difficult. However, raising a child who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer/questioning (LGBTQ) can be especially trying for many different reasons. There are many things that these parents have to deal with that most parents do not. One of the most difficult times for not only the parent of an LGBTQ child, but for the kid as well, is when the child comes out. This topic is very important in the field of family studies because, when a child comes out to his or her parents, the whole family is involved. The parent s reaction can have a significant effect on the child, whether it is a good or bad reaction. This is an important topic to study because both parents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The parents should be cautious and think through what to say to their child before speaking, because anything said could have a big impact on the adolescent. One example of a negative reaction an adolescent might get is the parents denying their child s sexuality. Some parents, as a way of coping, will think that it is a stage that the child will grow out of, or that the child came out just to get a reaction from the parents. In these cases, the son or daughter might feel the need to come out a second time. Denes and Afifi (2014) found that nearly a quarter of the participants in their study came out to their parents a second time. The reason most of the participants chose to come out again was because their parents denied their sexuality. Most participants who received a negative reaction to their coming out were more likely to come out again. This was because the child wanted to assert their identities, and prove that this is whom the adolescent really is. The child also wanted to share information with their parents about their LGBTQ lifestyle. The reaction given by the parents can also have an effect on how the LGBTQ child sees others in this community. D amico, Julien, Tremblay, and Chartrand (2015) found that the more the parents had difficulties coming to terms with their child s sexual orientation, the more the adolescent expressed negative views toward gay, lesbian, and bisexual people. The child internalized the parents prejudice against those in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Essay On Indian Historiography How the Indian historiography has evolved from precolonial to post colonial period? Over the three millenniums, India has developed opulent and complex layers of culture, since geographically India lies at crossroads of trading routes. From ancient times, people from diverse background and ethnicity came into India as traders and invaders via land as well as sea routes. They settled down here and, over the time, India assimilated them in its cultural and social mosaic. Also, India remained a home of host of empires and kingdoms with each having a peculiar history. Pre colonial empires and kingships had history but it would be told orally and would occasionally be chronicled. It were the Europeans particularly the British armed with documentation and statistical knowledge who introduced a systematic chronology of the Indian history upon seizing India. The modern Indian historiography was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... . As Jalal and Bose have argued that the cracking and crumbling of the modern nation state system, the disintegration of the socialist alternative, the disillusionment with the false promises of capitalism, and the resurgence of redefined social identities thought to have been obliterated by the steam roller of modernization have all rendered interpretations of the modern era in South Asian and world history much more complex. Recent themes in South Asian historiography have been the role of intermediate social groups in the construction of the British raj and that of subaltern social groups in anti colonial resistance; the part played by the colonial state in the reinvention of communal and caste categories; the refashioning of social relations of class by the linking of Indian economic regions to wider capitalist systems; and the impact of the interplay between national, communal and regional levels of politics on the process of ... • 48. Inaccuracy In Selma Selma, a 2014 film directed by Ava DuVernay, follows Martin Luther King Jr. s campaign during the Civil Rights Movement. The film hones in on the historical march from Selma to Montgomery in 1965 which King organized as a Civil Rights protest.1 When initially watching the film, it seems as though Selma does an appreciable job of depicting the challenges in which African Americans endured while advocating for their rights, particularly the right to vote. While there is no doubt that African Americans during this time suffered great hardships, upon further research, it can be argued that Selma does not depict how these events transpired in an entirely accurate manner. The film uses heart wrenching dramatization to evoke a sense of emotion from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the film demonizes Johnson and suggests that he was working against those taking part in the Civil Rights Movement, this is not historically correct. Although his actions in proposing the Voting Rights Act were delayed, Johnson was a crucial ally in the quest for black voting rights throughout the Civil Rights Movement.3 The film depicts several meetings between King and Johnson where Johnson is rather harsh and ignorant towards King s pleas, while in reality, Johnson . . . [only] wanted the dust to settle from the Civil Rights Act . . . before he could propose a voting rights bill.3 Following the protest in Selma which broke out in violence, Johnson spoke on national television of how it is wrong to inflict violence upon innocent citizens, and it is equally as wrong to deny a citizen the right to vote based on the color of their skin.3 The film omits these events in order to demonize Johnson and make for a more dramatic and emotion provoking storyline, but in doing so, the audience is not able to learn of how these historical events actually unfolded. Johnson was an important ally not only to King, but to all who were fighting during the Civil Rights Movement; this is an important fact that Selma deprives its audience ... • 49. The Survival of the Rock Hyrax in Urban Areas RATIONALE Urbanisation poses a threat to wildlife through habitat destruction and population fragmentation. As a consequence, urbanisation alters the distribution of species. Yet, urbanisation creates opportunities for some species to thrive and persist in the urban jungle. Many species have adapted to urban areas across the globe. However, not all animals living in urban areas adapt to urban life and instead might be confined to refugia that match the pre existing adaptation to natural conditions. Therefore, studying the occurrence and persistence of wildlife in urban areas might provide an understanding how some species can survive urbanisation (Chace Walsh 2006; Sih 2013; Sol et al. 2013; Fontúrbel Tarifa 2013). Wildlife can become pests in urban areas. For invasive species, these conflicts arise because they exploit newly available niches. For example, cane toads, Bufo marinus, in Australia, red foxes, Vulpes vulpes, across the globe, and grey squirrels, Sciurus carolinensis, in Britain (Barr et al. 2002; Saunders et al. 2010; Bateman Fleming 2012). However, for indigenous species, these conflicts can arise through habituation to people which could lead to these species being viewed as pests due to their behaviours conflicting with human interests. For example, European badgers, Meles meles, in British residential properties during foraging and sett construction (Ward et al. 2008). My study is concerned with establishing how species can survive in urban ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
