After reading the short story, Because My Father Always Said He Was the Only Indian Who Saw Jimi
Hendrix Play The Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock by Sherman Alexie, Alexie follows all six
elements such as ideas, organization, voice, word choice, fluidity in sentences and last but not least,
conversation. When looking at the Ideas of the short piece and how it was created, one of the most
noticeable things is the revealing of the plot. Just by looking at the title you have an idea that the short
piece will be about the relationship between the father and with Jimi Hendrix. Alexie reveals in the
information in a chronological order as well as use bigger details that later explain the smaller details
that were in the short piece. For example, in the beginning of the narrator ... Show more content on

Alexie draws in the reader by first telling a short story about her father back in the 1970 s. Alexie then
goes on in briefly telling the reader what prison was like for their father. Eventually moving on to how
the father met the mother and the relationship they father and mother had. This is an interesting take
on the way a child views their father and mother and how the father has craved freedom. The fluidity
of this short piece is excellent, it is not choppy and it gives just enough detail without dragging the
story out. It also helps that this piece is an easy read. One of the things that I enjoyed from the piece
was the comparison to how Indians would live compared to different races mentioned in the piece. I
though it gave the Victor the narrator some personality. Victor also does a lovely job on creating the
images of what his parents and their relationship, as well as his love for his father. The analogy of Jimi
Hendrix and freedom for the freedom was easy to pick up on, especially for when the father had
bought himself a motorcycle and found the freedom he craved (something Jimi Hendrix heavily

Interconnections between Population Policies in China and Cultural, Historical Perceptions regarding
Sexuality, Reproduction, and Health
Introduction
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Chinese government put in place the One Child Policy in order
to limit the majority of families to one child each and reduce China s population growth rate. In
reality, China s One Child Policy consisted of many one child policies, which were generally better
implemented and stricter in urban areas than in rural areas. Variations of the general one child policy
included allowing the rural families in some areas, families of some ethnic minority groups, families
with handicapped firstborn children, and families with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(100) Because of the sharp drop in fertility rates and rise in longevity since 1980, elderly people
currently constitute a large, growing proportion of China s population. In addition to these
demographic transformations, the human consequences of China s population policies are widespread.
Women forced to undergo abortions and/or sterilizations suffer from emotional trauma, whereas non
firstborn children are undocumented and legally unrecognized by society, lacking access to education,
public services, and employment. In accordance with the goals of state population policies, China s
fertility and birth rates after 1980 have drastically dropped, yet the unforeseen consequences of these
population policies will continue to affect China for many years to come.
Many scholars have researched China s population policies and its consequences. The health effects
from sterilizations and forced abortions have been well investigated.1 The mental health of the first
versus second and third children has also been compared in multiple studies.2 In Just One Child,
Susan Greenhalgh argues that a lack of scientific judgment and input gave rise to the One Child
Policy. However, there is a lack of research into the cultural determinants leading to the development
of China s population policies and the effects that state population policies have had on ideas about
sexuality and sexual health in China.

The Shakespearian Play Much Ado About Nothing
The Shakespearian play Much Ado about Nothing explores the position of women in a patriarchal
society and the difficulties they face. This play demonstrates how women in Elizabethan society were
expected to behave in a passive manner, how the men s opinion was accepted over the females and
how women had to conform to men. The over arching idea of the ideal female was that she was
passive and was accepting of her role in society. This theme is explored throughout the entirety of the
play but is highly demonstrated in Act one scene one of the play. In this scene the Audience is
introduced to Beatrice she is the opposite of the typical female stereotype of the time as she is
independent and she possess a quick wit and a sharp tongue. During this scene the ... Show more

the situation appear direr. The repeated use of the word men expresses the hatred Claudio is feeling at

seem innocent and the ideal women from the outside but on the inside she is disloyal. The language
and the way Claudio expressed his hatred and the fact that Claudio is the dominant male in this

of a rotten orange. Implying that she is disloyal and unfaithful to

Modern Desalinating Sea Water
Desalination has been used for thousands of years Greek sailors boiled water to evaporate fresh water
away from the salt and Romans used clay filters to trap salt. Today s sophisticated methods still
generally use the concepts of distillation or filtration. The process of desalinating sea water to make it
drinkable has a long and rich history. However, the first large scale modern desalination process to
appear was multi stage flash distillation (MSF) during the mid 20th century in the USA (1955).
Furthermore, although multi effect distillation (MED) had been discovered and had the potential to be
more efficient than MSF, it took a while longer to make the MED process efficient on an industrial
scale and this did not occur until 1959 when

Compare And Contrast The Liberal And Conservative Views On...
My philosophical viewpoint on the political parties can closely relate to both Liberal, and
Conservative. I will explain why I compare myself to both parties, and explain my views on
controversial topics. Liberalism part of the left wing of politics and the opposite of conservative,
Liberals have more tolerance for change, while conservatives would like to stick with tradition
attitude, values, and more so relates to politics rather than social reform. First and most importantly
gun control is an extremely popular topic as of right now with all the shootings going on. Liberals
protest that citizens should not have the right to keep and bear arms because of all the shootings going
on, while conservatives think that everyone with credibility should be able to own a gun and protect
himself or herself, and I completely agree with that. If we as a whole make owning a gun illegal, not
only will it start a big outrage across the country and probably cause more destruction and death, but
also it will also not help. For example drugs, they are illegal but anyone can get it, and guns are much

Another big topic would be free health care, my personal opinion about this is as said, the price of
health care should go down for families who can t afford it but I think we should at least keep the
price slightly the same for capable families that way we can at least pay for the technology to keep our
medical field moving on and pay the doctors for their delicate work in the field, without doctors we

Culture, Core Values, And Cultural Awareness Of Cuba
Cultural Awareness of Cuba Culture embodies a myriad of concepts that include customs, behaviors,
core values, and beliefs which support a specific population within a community or country. Culture is
a well defined set of principles and beliefs which are strengthened by the people who represent these
ideals. Each culture has its own unique and distinctive principles and engages its members as part of a

Cuba is representative of a different type of society which has in many ways, not embraced modern
technology due to the embargo and the lack of imports into the country; therefore, it falls behind in
many areas due to strict government control and limits the ability of its people to experience
meaningful economic growth (The Heritage Foundation, 2017). In this context, the people of Cuba
face significant challenges because they cannot seek opportunities for growth and development which
have a significant impact on their incomes and families (The Heritage Foundation, 2017). From this
perspective, there are important considerations to make regarding the Cuban economy and its lasting
impact on limiting economic prosperity for its people (The Heritage Foundation, 2017).
The primary language spoken in Cuba is Spanish, and within this culture, it is important for the people
throughout the country to gain access to opportunities such as education, which they believe will
provide them with access to new tools and resources to improve their lives (Donovan). In this context,
education is an essential value within the Cuban culture and provides a means of understanding how
the people of this country thrive, despite their limited economic circumstances and access to many
resources which are readily available to the people of other countries (Donovan). It is necessary that

Statement of Intent to Study Agricultural and Resource...
I am highly motivated to pursue further studies in agricultural and resource economics at Kasetsart
University. My strong interest in agriculture and the business of agriculture and its relation to
economic development . Agriculture is the backbone of my country Ghana, supplying food for the
nation s population. It is part of a massive business sector that provides many opportunities for the
masses of people.
In light of this, I would like to explore research frontiers in the area of the challenges of managing
food and farm businesses in a global setting of the 21st Century. In our society beleaguered by
agricultural problems that ranges from economic to environmental problems such as weather and
global warming, issues concerning trade and management of agricultural enterprises has been the
topic of debate for the past decade. Many developing/poor countries who earn their living from
agriculture continuously suffer from poverty and hunger as a result of the increasing pressures on the
world s resource base. Policymakers are gripped with finding solutions to problems such as structural
and technological constraints, inappropriate domestic policies and an unfavourable external economic
environment. As a result, the growth of these economies has been slow, undernourishment has been
increasing and the marginalization of these countries in the global economy has continued. This trend
has created problems for developing countries over the past decade. Economic and financial

Film Music Critique Essay

Music Critique of film Score
Action, suspense, love, and drama are all the makings for a great film. None of these key features to a
film could have any substance or feeling without the help of music. Composers play a big role for
setting the tone of the movie, developing characters, moving along or supporting action, and depicting
the time and place the movie is taking place. In the movie Heat, Elliot Goldenthal does just that.
Goldenthal was born in NY in 1954 and studied music under John Corigliano and Aaron Copeland.
His partner is Julie Taymor and he won an Oscar for the movie Frida which Julie directed. Goldenthal
has composed for several films as well as concert halls, theater and dance. He also has written an

This distinguishes his character of the hero, from the other two villain characters. At the end of the
movie Robert De Niro s character is trying to escape the country with the girl while Al Pacino s
character is right on his tail. There is a moment when De Niro realizes he cannot make it out with the
girl and in and unspoken stare he leaves. The music matches the feeling of the moment using long
drown out chords creating that sense a wanting and loss. As Pacino chases De Niro through a field the
music stops to intensify the action and set up the final scene. The music fades back in shortly before
Pacino shoots De Niro. The music carries into a high key riff that is repeated with strings playing four
tones slowly behind the keys. The music grows louder adding more instruments such as large cymbals
and carries into the credits. Goldenthal s score was replaced in the final scene with Moby s God
Moving Over the Face of the Water. Director Michael Mann felt that Moby s music better represented
a feeling of relief, that it was over, that Pacino finally got his guy. At the same time the music related
the two characters. Opposite from the beginning where the music separated the two, here it connects
them demonstrating how they were not that different and had respect and admiration for each

Sepsis Case Studies
Sepsis continues to be a significant cause of death and morbidity in the intensive care unit (ICU), with
documented mortality rates as high as 50% (Nargis, Ibrahim, Ahamed, 2014). It is also estimated to be
the principal cause of death and illness worldwide (Singer et al., 2016). Moreover, the socioeconomic
costs related to sepsis were determined to be more than $20 billion in 2011 in the United States (Balk
et al., 2017). Also, there has been a steady increase in the incidences of sepsis as the technological
advances in medicine allow for more invasive procedures, the growth of multi drug resistant
organisms, and an aging demographic (Nargis, Ibrahim, Ahamed, 2014). Therefore, timely diagnosis
and treatment of sepsis are paramount. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Performance Management Initiatives For The Public Sector...
CHAPTER ONE
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the study
Countries around the world have embarked on public organisational reforms to improve their
performance and improve service delivery. The key reform in state corporations has been the
introduction of performance management systems but only few countries have successfully
implemented the same and got positive results Performance management initiatives were put in place
to tackle issues and concerns that organisations have on performance (Sharif, 2002).
Majority of countries are seeking to develop a culture in the public sector that is more performance
oriented , one that gives much focus to efficiency, effectiveness, quality Customer care, an increased
focus on results as well as more decentralised management (Petrie,2002). In the last two decades
performance management in the public sector has shifted its focus to putting in place systems for
measuring outputs and rewarding results (Heinrich, 2003).
Performance Management initiatives are used to enhance employee s productivity through managing
their performance (Poister, 2003).Performance management initiatives are very important in the public
sector of many developing countries where the productivity has been low and the workforces continue
to work under vague job specifications and muddled lines of accountability. In many public sector
organisations individual and organisational performance are seldom measured and staff are paid low
salaries that do not relate

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Homeschooling
Introduction
Education plays significant role in the life of everyone. It is obvious that good education will influence
the future and strong foundation is the first step in building it. Iimmediately after birth, child begins to
receive knowledge, an education from his family, from his home, because home considers as the
foundation of all human institutions. After that it comes to make a choice whether to send him to study
to the ordinary school or not to send. Some parents try to homeschool their child due to the different
reasons, however others against of homeschooling because of its disadvantages. Therefore we will
discuss about the advantages and disadvantages of homeschooling and its impact on child education
and development.

Even homeschooling has that kind of positive effects; it also has disadvantages makes some parents
worry about them. For example:
1. Homeschooling considers as a hard work for the parents, planning the course of instruction, making

2. Homeschooling might be one of the reasons for financial stress. When all responsibility for buying

The Paradox Of Change In Ray Bradbury s Dandelion Wine
The Paradox of Change
Change is a force which is ever present in the universe, and an individual is never free from its effects;
change will continuously mold the individual by challenging its perception of its surroundings and
itself. In many ways, change causes development and maturity, yet it also causes decline and decay.
Change is constant. However, the paradox of change is often difficult to accept, and people will fight
with its reality throughout their lifetimes: friends will come and go, epiphanies and advances will
arrive, and things will never quite be like they used to be. The struggle between change and the
individual is a recurring part of Ray Bradbury s Dandelion Wine. This relationship shows not only
through the main character, Doug Spaulding, but also through those around him. Doug and the rest of
Green Town show how people contend with changes in that which they know, those whom they know,
and even themselves.
Many of Doug s favorite parts of Green Town become altered in some way during the summer of
1928. No more trolley. Bus starts to run tomorrow. Going to retire me with a pension, they are
(Bradbury 98). After Mr. Tridden tells them that the trolley is shutting down, Doug protests by
pointing out that a bus doesn t have the charm of the trolley. Later on, a woman thwarts an attempted
murder by the town s serial killer, The Lonely One . As Doug, Tom, and Charlie reflect upon seeing
the paramedics take Lonely One in on a stretcher, they lament the fact that there will be no more
killings to create excitement around town. Charlie rants to Tom, This town used to have some good
stuff in it up until about twelve o clock last night. From here on, we re vanilla junket (Bradbury 178).
They even try to convince themselves that the man on the stretcher wasn t the Lonely One. Regardless
of how unpleasant or cumbersome certain aspects of the town were, the kids still disliked their
altercation, and they struggled with everything beginning and ending around them.
The people of Green Town repeatedly grappled with very personal changes to those whom they were
familiar with. This contention is very prevalent within Doug when he hears that his friend, John Huff,
is moving away. To delay the

Multiple Case Study Analysis Essay
Summary
This is an education research paper that explores the qualitative research method known as Multiple
Case Study Analysis. It will look at design, implementation, and analysis. It will further touch on what
is meant by a case study in itself.
Introduction
As asserted by Stake (2006), The multicase study is a special effort to examine something having lots
of cases, parts, or members (p. vi), which by the study of those parts, is able to then better understand
the something as a whole, and the ways in which it functions across different scenarios. In other
words, it attempts to explore and understand a specific issue or phenomenon, within its context, by
examining the individual parts, or cases, which make it up. Stake ... Show more content on

If the intended methodological design is a qualitative multiple case study, then each case must be
known completely, which leaves little attention to the quintain. This forced split of the research
analyst s attention is what Stake (2006) describes as the case quintain dilemma (p. 1).
Single Case Studies Developing theory from case studies is a research scheme that involves the
utilization of multiple cases in an effort to create notional theories and proposals from case based
empirical evidence (Eisenhardt, 1989), and since a multiple case study is basically made up of various
individual case studies, the understanding of basic case study methodology is essential. Creswell
(1998) describes a case study as a qualitative research method in which the researcher explores a
bounded system (what Stake refers to as the quintain), through thorough detailed data collection over
a period of time, involving various collection sources, which results in the materialization of case
based theses and reports. Stake (2006) states that these processes are so involved, that for every hour a
researcher spends collecting data, he needs an additional six hours for things such as recording,
describing, preparing, reflecting, and the like. In his book, Stake (2006) provides a diagramed outline
for gathering

How Spokane Is A City Of The State Of Washington
Spokane is a very famous city of the state of Washington, which is located in United States of
America. This city is located just beside the Spokane River with Rocky mountains located towards the
east. This city came into being about 8000 to 13000 years ago when the first humans migrated into
this city and nicknamed it as lilac city. On the basis of 2010 census, this area has a huge population of
around 208, 916. On the basis of these population estimates, it can be said that this city is the second
largest city of Washington. Overall, this city has been declared as 102nd biggest city of the world.
Initially this area was not developed at all. After the area became populated by the immigrants from
local America, this city gradually started expanding and tried to build various trading contracts in
order to survive in this world. The first contract which was made with the European countries and
settlements was the trading post. At the time when this contract was formed, around 800 Americans
were living at this place. Due to this pact, the environment of hostility which existed between the
citizens of Spokane and Europe ended once and for all. In 1881, an official railway system was
established in this area. This move encouraged greater number of locals to move from other parts of
country to Spokane. This area was officially declared as Spokane falls in 1881 after the railway
system had been established and many locals had come into the city. Some gold and silver reserves

Effects Of Migration In Mexico
Introduction
Migration is one of the biggest and most known examples of living. People migrate all the time,
whether it is immigration into a country or emigrating out of a country. Migration happens very often,
especially in our modern world; needless to say, it is something that people use as privilege in order to
sustain and make their lives better. People migrate for numerous reasons, and those reasons depend on
how their lives will be formed later on in time. On this subject, a specific example of migration can be
seen in the illegal immigration from Mexico to USA. Many people in Mexico are not pleased with
their lives, therefore they use illegal immigration in order to enhance it. Currently, in the modern
world, America has been the solution to many individuals living problems in LEDC s as well as in
Mexico. It has the ability to provide people with the factors that they are lacking or have too much of.

The Untimely Meditations Of 19th Century Germany
Contrarily to Lear, Nietzsche clearly underlines that the failure to become ourselves has not simply to
do with whether we live up to our ideals, but also with the fact that our ideals are bad ones.
Accordingly, these stand as obstacles to our way to achieve sagehood. Hence, in the first of the
Untimely Meditations Nietzsche does not criticize the cultural philistine of 19th century Germany
simply because he fail to be a man of culture . Indeed, the roots of Nietzsche s argument lie in the fact
that the cultural philistine s representation of life as a fully achieved man of culture is wrong , insofar
as it renders him unable to be in contact with all creative there is, and therefore is cut off from the
possbility of developing true culture.

A Short Note On The De La Literatura

Economic, Social, and Political Problems in the Post-Civil...
Americans suffered many economic, social, and political problems in the post Civil War era. I have
identified one of each of these types of problems that I believe were among the most important during
the period of 1865 1900. The economic issue that I believe had one of the biggest impacts on
Americans at the time is the Great Railroad Strike of 1877. The social issue that I feel greatly affected
America after the Civil War is Chinese immigration. One of the biggest political issues, to me, is the
Populist Party. I feel that the Great Railroad Strike of 1887 was a major issue because it made
Americans realize just how deeply Americans were invested in the railroads. At the time, the biggest
investment banking firm in America, Jay Cooke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The strike lasted all of 45 days, and became to lose steam and effectively come to a halt after President
Hayes sent federal troops from city to city. There is no exact record of the losses faced by the country
during this strike, but it is reported that the engineers and firemen s brotherhoods lost approximately
$600,000 over the forty five days of the strike, while for the Burlington Railroad the losses were at
least $2,100,000. In Pittsburgh, it was estimated that property damage reached over three million
dollars, with Chicago, Baltimore and other cities facing losses of a similar magnitude.
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Railroad_Strike) I believe that Chinese immigration during the
period after the Civil War was a very big issue because it showed just how unwilling ordinary, white
citizens were to let another inferior race into the country. Chinese immigrants had been arriving in
large quantities starting during the mid 19th century. Most of worked as laborers, usually on the
transcontinental railroad (such as the Central Pacific Railroad) and in the mines. They suffered racial
discrimination for a long time due to industrial employers being eager to get this new and cheap labor,
but the ordinary white public being angered by the oncoming of the so called yellow peril. Political
party gatherings, labor unions, and other organizations rallied against the immigration of yet another

William Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew
William Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew is a controversial comedy that has more than 1
interpretation. The 2 prominent interpretations is that it a misogynistic play or that it is a love story
about a man liberating a woman. This play has been adapted into any movies the 2 that were studied
were The Taming of the Shrew , produced in 1967 and 10 Things I Hate About You , made in 1999.
Upon viewing these 2 movies I found that The Taming of the Shrew had a great deal of misogyny
throughout the plot. However, I found 10 Things I Hate About You was portrayed as a love story and
because of this I thought I was, until I thought about the fact that someone was paid to take her out

He then uses the technique for training birds of prey, to train her to obey him. Finally at Bianca s
wedding Kate gives a speech about being a good wife and obey their husbands. I found this movie
misogynistic, Katerina was wild and shrewish, however that is no valid reason to physiologically
abuse her. I took this as Shakespeare has created a character that tests society s boundaries and
challenges the people s beliefs, but she is then forced to marry and she is tamed . In a way
Shakespeare is sending a message that if a woman challenges society they will end up the same as all
of the other woman, obedient and a business deal. This may be ok in the Elizabethan era but in today s
society this is unacceptable it s basically domestic violence. For this reason I believe Petruchio s
behavior is horrible. He abused her for a game. In the end when Katerina gives a speech to the crowd
shows that she has succumb to the falconry .
10 Things I Hate About You is a modernised adaptation explores a teenage shrew life and the
modernised world of dating and trying to fit in . Kat, the independent 18 year old with an attitude,
refuses to follow the crowd . Bianca, her younger sister, however, is popular and wants to date. Their

In October 1970, Canada faced a pressing terrorist attack in Montreal, Quebec by a group known as
the Front de Liberation du Quebec, or the FLQ for short. The group committed multiple attacks
starting in 1963 that slowly escalated until the October Crisis, where they kidnapped two government
officials and proceeded to murder one of them. The Canadian government responded harshly and
rapidly. The prime minister of Canada, Pierre Trudeau, issued the War Measures Act which along with
various things allowed the police and military full reign to arrest people and hold them with no
explanation. The Canadian population was highly supportive of the government s action believing that

Some of these demands were a reading of the manifesto on public radio, a half million dollar ransom,

manifesto. However, this was not enough for the FLQ and they kidnapped and shortly killed the
provincial cabinet minister Pierre LaPorte. James Cross remained kidnapped until December 1970,
when the police found his holding cell.
The government responded aggressively to the kidnapping of both James Cross and Pierre LaPorte.
After LaPorte s body was found in a car by the Montreal airport, the government requested assistance
from the Canadian Armed Forces . The federal government proclaimed the existence of a state of
apprehended insurrection under the War Measures Act . Under these emergency regulations, the FLQ
was outlawed and membership became a criminal act . The liberties of citizens were also suspended,
and arrests and detentions were authorized without a charge . During the War Measures Act, the
military was patrolling the streets and police forces were given additional freedom, while the liberties
of citizens were taken away. One way that the police force was given further freedom is they had the
freedom to search and detain anyone they wanted without stating a reason. Through this

Macrophages And Osteoclasts
Macrophages and osteoclasts are cells that form from a common myeloid lineage. Because of this
common lineage, both cell types share similar properties that can lead to tumorigenesis and metastasis

utilize phagocytosis to engulf pathogens in order to eliminate them, while osteoclasts are large cells
found in the bone that break down and absorb bone tissue. Macrophages have properties that allow
them to produce and secrete many chemokines and pro inflammatory cytokines. These molecules can
lead to increased angiogenesis in a microenvironment; additionally, the growth factors secreted by

Essay on Shamanism
Shamanism
Shamanism in Anthropology has been an entity in a constant metamorphosis.
It has always been considered exotic and its existence around the globe was never contradicted.
However, over the years it did not receive the scholarly attention that it so requires. The age of
discovery garnered a multitude of information on shamanism all over the world. The reporters
invested a great deal of accuracy in the gathering of the information, but their observational skills
were mostly underdeveloped. Furthermore as could be expected, they saw and evaluated things solely
on the basis of European religion and social customs
(Flaherty, 1992, pp.3) without having it necessary to view its ramifications to the people ... Show more

Nevertheless, differences did emerge that transformed the definition of shamanism in anthropology in
that it added more to this vague definition.
According to Mircea Eliade the shaman who is an inspired priest, in ecstatic trance ascends to the
heavens on trips . In the cause of these journeys the shaman persuades or even fights with the gods in
order to secure benefits for his fellow men. Here, in the opinion of Eliade, spirit possession is not an
essential characteristics and is no always present (Eliade, 1951, pp.434). He goes on by stating that the
quot;specific element of shamanism is not the incorporation of spirits by the shaman but the ecstasy
provoked by the ascension to the sky quot;(pp.434). That is to say that the incorporation of spirit
possession does not necessarily belong to shamanism. Therefore, from Eliade s view point we see that
there is a wedge between shamanism and spirit possession (Lewis,1971, pp.49). This was a view that
was prevalent in the study of shamanism in anthropology at the time. Other writers on the subject
clearly accepted this view as expressed by Luc de Heusch. He sought to develop these ideas into an
ambitious, formalistic theory of religious phenomena. He states that shamanism and spirit possession
are an antithetical process. The first is an ascent of man to the gods, the second the descent of the gods
on men (Lewis,1971,pp.50).

Biographia Literaria By Coleridge
The composed landmark of Coleridge s basic work is contained in 24 sections of Biographia Literaria

This debate with Wordsworth on poetry is well understood in chapter 17 of Biographia Literaria. The
chapter is well structured and proves to be a good debater. Coleridge directly does not attack
Wordsworth s apparent weakness in the beginning he accepts his fellow oppositions strengths. The
ideas of Wordsworth that Rustic Man has exceptional wisdom is critiqued by Coleridge that any man
can have this wisdom no matter where he lives city, town or country. Provided, thsu man should have
two important virtues of characteristics they are, firstly, the man should not be living in poverty but
working hard for as living and the other quality needed for wisdom is knowledge of the Bible or other

Willy Loman Death Of A Salesman Essay
The Two Willy Lomans in Arthur Miller s Death of a Salesman
There are two Willy Lomans in The Death of a Salesman. There is the present broken, exhausted man
in his sixties, soon to end his life. And there is the more confident, vigorous Willy of some fifteen
years before, who appears in the flashbacks. One actor portrays both, readily shifting from one
representation to the other. To some extent, of course, the personality remains constant. The younger
Willy, although given to boastful blustering, does admit misgivings to Linda and loneliness to Biff.
And the shattered older man, in turn, occasionally reverts to his former manner of jaunty optimism.
Yet the changes are great and significant. The earlier Willy could never have been ... Show more

an episode, he knows in his heart that the Boston affair left the boy bitterly disillusioned. Feeling some
sense of guilt, Willy fears that all of Biff s later difficulties may have been really attempts to get
revenge. Biff has failed, in other words, mainly to spite Willy. Although outwardly resenting such
alleged vindictiveness. Willy still wants to get back the old comradeship, even if he has to buy it
dearly. Why can t I give him something, he asks the spectral Ben, and not have him hate me? And his
great final moment of joy and triumph occurs when he can exclaim, Isn t that remarkable? Biff he
likes me!
On the other hand, Willy also is emotionally involved with Biff because his son s success or failure is
also his. By becoming rich and influential, the handsome, personable Biff was slated to provide Willy
s victorious reply to all not sufficiently impressed with his own modest advancement. By making his
fortune in the business world, Biff would prove that Willy had been right in turning down Ben s
adventurous challenge to head for Alaska. He would also outshine the sensible, plodding Charley and
Bernard, thus establishing once and for all Willy s theory that having personality and being well liked
were the great requisites for preeminence. Losing his own job, Willy is naturally unhappy. But if he

Ethnocentrism vs Polycentrism
When thinking of cultural identity I see myself as, a mixed latina caucasian, middle class Christian.
The things I do in my everyday life reflects off of what I was taught in my early stages of life.
Learning morals to what is right and wrong. Also learning to how to be a women and to be ladylike.
With also learning and how to apply my religion in my everyday life. Being a Christian I believe there
is one God and that is Jesus. I believe God sent down his only son to sacrifice himself for us the
people. Also growing up I have heard how different religions is wrong. For example, the Catholic
faith. I was told the Catholic religion believe in three Gods. The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.
The Catholic religion also pray in the Father, The Son, and Holy Spirit. Being a Christian I was taught
there was only one name to pray in and that is in Jesus name. This affects my everyday life because
the way I act, speak, dress affects my religion and morals that were given to me since birth. Being
ethnocentric I believe my religion is correct. I know it correct because I follow the Bible. What I give
off to people is a representation of that. On the other hand, I do believe all religions are correct in their
own way. They were taught the same things I was taught, but just in different ways. I do feel like who

Piece Of Equipment Essay
Introduction
I have been asked to design and build a piece of equipment using the available apparatus that follows
the diagram below.
The design we came up with is in the picture below and the reason I came up with this simple design
is because it seemed the easiest in order to do the simple job.
The components we used were
240v main supply
This was simply a lead that came from the house mains and plugged into an adapter that brought the
amps down to 3amp as the circuit wasn t going to need a lot of current to work and then plugged into
the transformer.
Transformer
I then used a transformer to change the voltage from 240v ac down to 15v ac. The way the transformer
works is that there is current passed through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2 of these pins were used for the coil labelled a1 a2 and the other 6 pins were used for normally open
and normally closed contacts.
Limit Switch
We used 2 limit switches that also stopped the circuit if the yaw point went too far they would push
the limit switch and stop the relays that powered the motor.
Motor
The motor we used was a 12v dc motor. This motor moved both clockwise and anticlockwise when
polarity was changed through the way the relays are wired.
When we wired up this circuit and done a few tests on it we found that because it was a dc circuit it
had some voltage drop. We done a calculation to figure out what would be the best size of capacitor
we could put into the circuit in order to smooth it out.
This is the calculation we done.
Capisator size = C=IxT/V
I = Current
T= Time 50hz per second
V= change in voltage
C= 0.5A x 0.02/15
=0.5x0.001333
=0.0006F
= 667uF
We then placed 1x 470uF and 2x 100uF capacitor in parallel and tested the wave form again and it
showed a more clear and steady wave than before. We then knew we had this problem sorted.
When it came to wiring the circuit, I realised that all we need was 12v to power the relay and motor
but the motor was going far too fast so what I done was put a voltage regulator that changed the
voltage from 15v dc to 5v dc which I then used to power the motor. However, I still used the 12v dc to
power the coil on the relay as if I didn t do this the coil on

Abstract The development of Renewable Energy (RE) sources and Energy Efficiency (EE)
technologies is a central aim of the world energy policy. A several international programs and
investments was developed in order to contribute in reducing Greenhouse Gas (GHG). The majority of
the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries possess substantial potential for the
implementation of such projects. Abatement of GHG emissions can mainly be achieved through
utilizing the abundant RE sources in the region and the implementation of EE measures. Tunisia
belong to those potential countries and is one of the few developing countries that have developed a

Abstract
Childhood maltreatment is a prevalent problem through out the world. As a child grows and matures
the brain continues to develop according its experiences. During this time sensitive periods of
development for different areas of the brain. A few areas that are of interest are the stress influenced
areas, which are at an increased risk for developmental problems when exposed to maltreatment. The
extra stress from such exposures can influence abnormalities throughout the brain, which have been
linked to structure changes with in the corpus callosum, anterior cingulate, dorsolateral prefrontal,
orbitofrontal cortex, and hippocampus, amygdala, and cerebellum, as well as changes to stress related
hormone systems. These structural changes are associated with an increased risk of psychopathology
and other life long educational and physiological risk.
In 2013 an estimated 679,000 children were victims of maltreatment and approximately 3.1 million
children received help from Childhood Protective Services in the United States alone. Abuse or
neglect can be categorized as maltreatment, which takes many different forms from physical, sexual,

411016, Maharashtra, India ACKNOWLEDGEMENT A project like this takes quite a lot of time to do
properly. As is often the case, this project owes its existence and certainly its quality to a number of
people, whose name does not appear on the cover. Among them is one of the most extra ordinary
programmers it has been my pleasure to work with Mr. Ankur Kaushik, who did more than just check
the facts by offering thoughtful logic where needed to improve the project ... Show more content on

3. Design Software design is actually a multi step process that focuses on for distinct attributes of a
program: data structure, software architecture, interfaces representation and procedural detail. The
design process translates requirements into a representation of the software that can be accessed for
quality before coding begins. 4. Code Generation Code Generation phase translates the design into a
machine readable form. 5. Testing Once code has been generated, program testing begins. The testing
focuses on the logical internals of the software, ensuring that all statement have been tested, and on
the functional externals; that is, conducting test to uncover errors and ensure that define input will
produce actual results that agree with required results. 6. Support Software will undoubtedly undergo
change after it is delivered to the customer. Change will occur because errors have been encountered,
because the software must be adapted to accommodate changes in its external environment or because
the customer requires functional or performance enhancements. System Study Before the project can
begin, it becomes necessary to estimate the work to be done, the resource that will be required, and the
time that will elapse from start to finish. During making such a plan we visited site many more times.

Our Inner Circle, By Michael Gomez Essay
How we regard ourselves and our place in the world is often how happiness is measured. Connections
crafted with one another are frequently at the axis of that self perception. Friendships, family, and
community provide us shoulders to cry on, extended hands to lift us up when we are down, and share
in our proudest achievements. Within our inner circle we feel safest and most as ease. That circle is
also part of a greater group we call community. It shares similar values, language and often religion.
The community protects each inner circle, fostering a common culture that allows its members to feel
at ease even when venturing beyond the inner circle. Being extracted from that inner circle and
community through use of force, without warning, and relocated across the world with no ability to
commune with those in which a profound bond was formed is analogous to death.
For over 400 years, millions of Africans and their American slave descendants lived with that
nightmare. Dr. Michael Gomez wrote, Words will never convey the agony, despair, and bewilderment
of these innocents, the depth of their suffering, the pain of their separation. The American slave trade
and damage it caused to those who lived under threat of constant separation is one of the great
cruelties in the history of the world. Giving voice to individuals silenced as a result of slavery,
scholars are providing specifics on individuals who survived and by what means they struggled to
preserve their identities,

Evolution Of Flight Research Paper
Flight is a very complex function, and in order to develop into what we know now as birds, there are
several major evolutionary changes that needed to develop to maturity. In order for fly, the skeletal
structure, musculature, respiratory system, circulatory systems, and feathers must all be adapted to
allow for an organism to take flight. Many scientists have proposed theories about the origin of flight,
but the Arboreal and Cursorial theories have emerged as the strongest cases. Arboreal theories are
based around the idea that the organisms climbing into trees jump out of those trees and glide down,
eventually adapted to flap to increase drag. This theory is based in the skeletal similarities of gliding
animals to those of birds.1 This tree hopping evolution hypothesis is supported by Archaeopteryx, one
of the prime examples of a transitional animal for flight. Archaeopteryx presents with long unfused
claws that are adaptations for climbing and grasping.3 In addition, there are also presence of a furcula,
and a bid like pes with a reversed hallux. These adaptations also account for ... Show more content on

Any lift that would come out of the winged features would generate drag causing a loss in
acceleration. 1 However, just as the Arobreal theory was supported by Archaeopteryx, the Cursorial
theory is also strongly supported by this specimen. Archaeopteryx demonstrates a complete set of
conical teeth and claws that were sharp and resembling the specimens relative Ornitholestes, a known
predaceous animal.3 The Archaeopteryx also resembles therapods with a reversed hallux, hindlimb,
and pelvis.3 Even though this theory is supported using fossil evidence, it does have some problems
which have lead to the development of theories such as the WAIR

Character Analysis Of Fitzgerald s Dream In The Great Gatsby
Although their wealth has brought them materialistic satisfaction, they all constantly remain in a state
of being emotionally torn, distraught between money and true happiness. Jay is the first to discover
this struggle and eventually Daisy and Tom experience it too. Jay later shows his conflicted feelings
when he begs Daisy to tell Tom that she never loved him. Daisy said, I never loved him, ... Oh, you
want to much! she cried to Gatsby. I love you now isn t that enough? I can t help what s past
(Fitzgerald 132). This depicts a clear picture that almost is never enough for Gatsby. Jay wants every
single bit and piece of Daisy, that including her uncontrollable past. Gatsby is so caught up in all of his
memories that he forgets to add reality into his planned future. Unfortunately, the dream is based on
hollow underpinnings, on the vacuous Daisy and the misguided concept that large amounts of money
can be made and used without responsibility (Morton Mollo). Love blinds Gatsby into thinking that
things can be pick up again where they were left off, as long as Daisy wants it s to badly enough. Jay
forgets that Daisy has a rock on her finger, baby at home, and a social status. Gatsby has never been
able to move on, but Daisy has, and did a long time ago. He selfishly longs to her all to himself,
forgetting that what she currently wants is different from what she wanted when he stood next to her
in his forest green army attire so many years ago. Loveless marriage is

Deborah Tannen And Gender
Deborah Tannen is an American academic and professor of linguistics at Georgetown University in
Washington, D.C. Her research mainly focuses on the expression of interpersonal relationships in
conversational interactions, including how these interactions are affected by gender and cultural
differences. In her essay Tannen uses gender to reveal the differences between male and female
conversational styles in classroom discussions. She formulates the theory that males naturally prefer
and dominate contributions to these debate like discussions while females incline to contribute to less
hostile conversations. Tannen presents her argument effectively using simple vocabulary and
appropriate literary devices however, as the essay progresses she ... Show more content on

However, Tannen does not consider it in her research. What makes a male or a female dominate
discussions in class is more or less reliant on their personality. In a regular classroom there are
innumerable personalities that contradict each other and similarly those who do not participate in
debating at all, regardless of sex. It all depends on the personality of a person while Tannen ignoring
this aspect proposes a clichéd approach where males tend to dominate females in discussions and then
provides vague and insufficient supports to justify her

After reading the short story, Because My Father Always Said He Was the Only Indian Who Saw Jimi Hendrix Play The Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock by Sherman Alexie, Alexie follows all six elements such as ideas, organization, voice, word choice, fluidity in sentences and last but not least, conversation. When looking at the Ideas of the short piece and how it was created, one of the most noticeable things is the revealing of the plot. Just by looking at the title you have an idea that the short piece will be about the relationship between the father and with Jimi Hendrix. Alexie reveals in the information in a chronological order as well as use bigger details that later explain the smaller details that were in the short piece. Alexie then goes on in briefly telling the reader what prison was like for their father. Eventually moving on to how the father met the mother and the relationship they father and mother had. This is an interesting take on the way a child views their father and mother and how the father has craved freedom. The fluidity of this short piece is excellent, it is not choppy and it gives just enough detail without dragging the story out. It also helps that this piece is an easy read. One of the things that I enjoyed from the piece was the comparison to how Indians would live compared to different races mentioned in the piece. I though it gave the Victor the narrator some personality. Victor also does a lovely job on creating the images of what his parents and their relationship, as well as his love for his father. The analogy of Jimi Hendrix and freedom for the freedom was easy to pick up on, especially for when the father had bought himself a motorcycle and found the freedom he craved (something Jimi Hendrix heavily ... Emily Truong Honors Thesis 12/16/15 Interconnections between Population Policies in China and Cultural, Historical Perceptions regarding Sexuality, Reproduction, and Health Introduction In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Chinese government put in place the One Child Policy in order to limit the majority of families to one child each and reduce China s population growth rate. In reality, China s One Child Policy consisted of many one child policies, which were generally better implemented and stricter in urban areas than in rural areas. Variations of the general one child policy included allowing the rural families in some areas, families of some ethnic minority groups, families with handicapped firstborn children, and families with ... (100) Because of the sharp drop in fertility rates and rise in longevity since 1980, elderly people currently constitute a large, growing proportion of China s population. In addition to these demographic transformations, the human consequences of China s population policies are widespread. Women forced to undergo abortions and/or sterilizations suffer from emotional trauma, whereas non firstborn children are undocumented and legally unrecognized by society, lacking access to education, public services, and employment. In accordance with the goals of state population policies, China s fertility and birth rates after 1980 have drastically dropped, yet the unforeseen consequences of these population policies will continue to affect China for many years to come. Many scholars have researched China s population policies and its consequences. The health effects from sterilizations and forced abortions have been well investigated.1 The mental health of the first versus second and third children has also been compared in multiple studies.2 In Just One Child, Susan Greenhalgh argues that a lack of scientific judgment and input gave rise to the One Child Policy. However, there is a lack of research into the cultural determinants leading to the development of China s population policies and the effects that state population policies have had on ideas about sexuality and sexual health in China. This play demonstrates how women in Elizabethan society were expected to behave in a passive manner, how the men s opinion was accepted over the females and how women had to conform to men. The over arching idea of the ideal female was that she was passive and was accepting of her role in society. This theme is explored throughout the entirety of the play but is highly demonstrated in Act one scene one of the play. Liberalism part of the left wing of politics and the opposite of conservative, Liberals have more tolerance for change, while conservatives would like to stick with tradition attitude, values, and more so relates to politics rather than social reform. First and most importantly gun control is an extremely popular topic as of right now with all the shootings going on. Liberals protest that citizens should not have the right to keep and bear arms because of all the shootings going on, while conservatives think that everyone with credibility should be able to own a gun and protect himself or herself, and I completely agree with that. • 14. The Paradox Of Change In Ray Bradbury s Dandelion Wine The Paradox of Change Change is a force which is ever present in the universe, and an individual is never free from its effects; change will continuously mold the individual by challenging its perception of its surroundings and itself. In many ways, change causes development and maturity, yet it also causes decline and decay. Change is constant. However, the paradox of change is often difficult to accept, and people will fight with its reality throughout their lifetimes: friends will come and go, epiphanies and advances will arrive, and things will never quite be like they used to be. The struggle between change and the individual is a recurring part of Ray Bradbury s Dandelion Wine. This relationship shows not only through the main character, Doug Spaulding, but also through those around him. Doug and the rest of Green Town show how people contend with changes in that which they know, those whom they know, and even themselves. Many of Doug s favorite parts of Green Town become altered in some way during the summer of 1928. No more trolley. Bus starts to run tomorrow. Later on, a woman thwarts an attempted murder by the town s serial killer, The Lonely One . As Doug, Tom, and Charlie reflect upon seeing the paramedics take Lonely One in on a stretcher, they lament the fact that there will be no more killings to create excitement around town. Charlie rants to Tom, This town used to have some good stuff in it up until about twelve o clock last night. From here on, we re vanilla junket (Bradbury 178). They even try to convince themselves that the man on the stretcher wasn t the Lonely One. Regardless of how unpleasant or cumbersome certain aspects of the town were, the kids still disliked their altercation, and they struggled with everything beginning and ending around them. Single Case Studies Developing theory from case studies is a research scheme that involves the utilization of multiple cases in an effort to create notional theories and proposals from case based empirical evidence (Eisenhardt, 1989), and since a multiple case study is basically made up of various individual case studies, the understanding of basic case study methodology is essential. Creswell (1998) describes a case study as a qualitative research method in which the researcher explores a bounded system (what Stake refers to as the quintain), through thorough detailed data collection over a period of time, involving various collection sources, which results in the materialization of case based theses and reports. Stake (2006) states that these processes are so involved, that for every hour a researcher spends collecting data, he needs an additional six hours for things such as recording, describing, preparing, reflecting, and the like. Hence, in the first of the Untimely Meditations Nietzsche does not criticize the cultural philistine of 19th century Germany simply because he fail to be a man of culture . Indeed, the roots of Nietzsche s argument lie in the fact that the cultural philistine s representation of life as a fully achieved man of culture is wrong , insofar as it renders him unable to be in contact with all creative there is, and therefore is cut off from the possbility of developing true culture. ... • 23. I have identified one of each of these types of problems that I believe were among the most important during the period of 1865 1900. The economic issue that I believe had one of the biggest impacts on Americans at the time is the Great Railroad Strike of 1877. The social issue that I feel greatly affected America after the Civil War is Chinese immigration. One of the biggest political issues, to me, is the Populist Party. I feel that the Great Railroad Strike of 1887 was a major issue because it made Americans realize just how deeply Americans were invested in the railroads. In Pittsburgh, it was estimated that property damage reached over three million dollars, with Chicago, Baltimore and other cities facing losses of a similar magnitude. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Railroad_Strike) I believe that Chinese immigration during the period after the Civil War was a very big issue because it showed just how unwilling ordinary, white citizens were to let another inferior race into the country. Chinese immigrants had been arriving in large quantities starting during the mid 19th century. Most of worked as laborers, usually on the transcontinental railroad (such as the Central Pacific Railroad) and in the mines. The 2 prominent interpretations is that it a misogynistic play or that it is a love story about a man liberating a woman. This play has been adapted into any movies the 2 that were studied were The Taming of the Shrew , produced in 1967 and 10 Things I Hate About You , made in 1999. Upon viewing these 2 movies I found that The Taming of the Shrew had a great deal of misogyny throughout the plot. Finally at Bianca s wedding Kate gives a speech about being a good wife and obey their husbands. I found this movie misogynistic, Katerina was wild and shrewish, however that is no valid reason to physiologically abuse her. I took this as Shakespeare has created a character that tests society s boundaries and challenges the people s beliefs, but she is then forced to marry and she is tamed . In a way Shakespeare is sending a message that if a woman challenges society they will end up the same as all of the other woman, obedient and a business deal. This may be ok in the Elizabethan era but in today s society this is unacceptable it s basically domestic violence. For this reason I believe Petruchio s behavior is horrible. He abused her for a game. In the end when Katerina gives a speech to the crowd shows that she has succumb to the falconry . 10 Things I Hate About You is a modernised adaptation explores a teenage shrew life and the modernised world of dating and trying to fit in . The reporters invested a great deal of accuracy in the gathering of the information, but their observational skills were mostly underdeveloped. According to Mircea Eliade the shaman who is an inspired priest, in ecstatic trance ascends to the heavens on trips . In the cause of these journeys the shaman persuades or even fights with the gods in order to secure benefits for his fellow men. Here, in the opinion of Eliade, spirit possession is not an essential characteristics and is no always present (Eliade, 1951, pp.434). He goes on by stating that the quot;specific element of shamanism is not the incorporation of spirits by the shaman but the ecstasy provoked by the ascension to the sky quot;(pp.434). That is to say that the incorporation of spirit possession does not necessarily belong to shamanism. Therefore, from Eliade s view point we see that there is a wedge between shamanism and spirit possession (Lewis,1971, pp.49). This was a view that was prevalent in the study of shamanism in anthropology at the time. Other writers on the subject clearly accepted this view as expressed by Luc de Heusch. He sought to develop these ideas into an ambitious, formalistic theory of religious phenomena. He states that shamanism and spirit possession are an antithetical process. • 42. Our Inner Circle, By Michael Gomez Essay How we regard ourselves and our place in the world is often how happiness is measured. Connections crafted with one another are frequently at the axis of that self perception. Friendships, family, and community provide us shoulders to cry on, extended hands to lift us up when we are down, and share in our proudest achievements. Within our inner circle we feel safest and most as ease. That circle is also part of a greater group we call community. It shares similar values, language and often religion. The community protects each inner circle, fostering a common culture that allows its members to feel at ease even when venturing beyond the inner circle. Being extracted from that inner circle and community through use of force, without warning, and relocated across the world with no ability to commune with those in which a profound bond was formed is analogous to death. For over 400 years, millions of Africans and their American slave descendants lived with that nightmare. Dr. Michael Gomez wrote, Words will never convey the agony, despair, and bewilderment of these innocents, the depth of their suffering, the pain of their separation. The American slave trade and damage it caused to those who lived under threat of constant separation is one of the great cruelties in the history of the world. Giving voice to individuals silenced as a result of slavery, scholars are providing specifics on individuals who survived and by what means they struggled to preserve their identities, ... • 43. Evolution Of Flight Research Paper Flight is a very complex function, and in order to develop into what we know now as birds, there are several major evolutionary changes that needed to develop to maturity. In order for fly, the skeletal structure, musculature, respiratory system, circulatory systems, and feathers must all be adapted to allow for an organism to take flight. Many scientists have proposed theories about the origin of flight, but the Arboreal and Cursorial theories have emerged as the strongest cases. Arboreal theories are based around the idea that the organisms climbing into trees jump out of those trees and glide down, eventually adapted to flap to increase drag. This theory is based in the skeletal similarities of gliding animals to those of birds.1 This tree hopping evolution hypothesis is supported by Archaeopteryx, one of the prime examples of a transitional animal for flight. Archaeopteryx presents with long unfused claws that are adaptations for climbing and grasping.3 In addition, there are also presence of a furcula, and a bid like pes with a reversed hallux. These adaptations also account for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Any lift that would come out of the winged features would generate drag causing a loss in acceleration. 1 However, just as the Arobreal theory was supported by Archaeopteryx, the Cursorial theory is also strongly supported by this specimen. Archaeopteryx demonstrates a complete set of conical teeth and claws that were sharp and resembling the specimens relative Ornitholestes, a known predaceous animal.3 The Archaeopteryx also resembles therapods with a reversed hallux, hindlimb, and pelvis.3 Even though this theory is supported using fossil evidence, it does have some problems which have lead to the development of theories such as the WAIR ... • 44. Character Analysis Of Fitzgerald s Dream In The Great Gatsby Although their wealth has brought them materialistic satisfaction, they all constantly remain in a state of being emotionally torn, distraught between money and true happiness. Jay is the first to discover this struggle and eventually Daisy and Tom experience it too. Jay later shows his conflicted feelings when he begs Daisy to tell Tom that she never loved him. Daisy said, I never loved him, ... Oh, you want to much! she cried to Gatsby. I love you now isn t that enough? I can t help what s past (Fitzgerald 132). This depicts a clear picture that almost is never enough for Gatsby. Jay wants every single bit and piece of Daisy, that including her uncontrollable past. Gatsby is so caught up in all of his memories that he forgets to add reality into his planned future. Unfortunately, the dream is based on hollow underpinnings, on the vacuous Daisy and the misguided concept that large amounts of money can be made and used without responsibility (Morton Mollo). Love blinds Gatsby into thinking that things can be pick up again where they were left off, as long as Daisy wants it s to badly enough. Jay forgets that Daisy has a rock on her finger, baby at home, and a social status. Gatsby has never been able to move on, but Daisy has, and did a long time ago. He selfishly longs to her all to himself, forgetting that what she currently wants is different from what she wanted when he stood next to her in his forest green army attire so many years ago. Loveless marriage is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Deborah Tannen And Gender Deborah Tannen is an American academic and professor of linguistics at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Her research mainly focuses on the expression of interpersonal relationships in conversational interactions, including how these interactions are affected by gender and cultural differences. In her essay Tannen uses gender to reveal the differences between male and female conversational styles in classroom discussions. She formulates the theory that males naturally prefer and dominate contributions to these debate like discussions while females incline to contribute to less hostile conversations. Tannen presents her argument effectively using simple vocabulary and appropriate literary devices however, as the essay progresses she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Tannen does not consider it in her research. What makes a male or a female dominate discussions in class is more or less reliant on their personality. In a regular classroom there are innumerable personalities that contradict each other and similarly those who do not participate in debating at all, regardless of sex. It all depends on the personality of a person while Tannen ignoring this aspect proposes a clichéd approach where males tend to dominate females in discussions and then provides vague and insufficient supports to justify her ...
